Lessons From Geese
This was transcribed from a speech given by Angeles Arrien at the 1991 Organizational Development Network, based on the work of Milton Olson.
Fact 1: As each goose flaps its wings, it creates an “uplift” for the birds that follow. By flying in “V”formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.
Lesson: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier, because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
Fact 2: When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as a goose, we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help, and give our help to others.
Fact 3: When the lead goose tires, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies to the point position.
Lesson: It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with geese, people are interdependent on each other’s skills, capabilities and unique arrangements of gifts, talents or resources.
Fact 4: The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those in front to keep up their speed.
Lesson: We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement the production is greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one’s heart or core values and encourage the heart and core of others) is the quality of honking we seek.
Fact 5: When a goose gets sick, wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help or protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.
Lesson: If we have as much sense as geese, we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.

The Four Rivers—Angeles Arrien
River of Inspiration
The River of Inspiration lights the creative fire, which is known by indigenous cultures as the fire that does not need wood.
Who or what inspired me this year?
2. River of Surprise
The River of Surprise is about flexibility and resilience in response to whatever may come our way. The Inuit people say that there are two plans to every day: my plan and the Mystery’s plan. Surprise shows us where we are still flexible or not flexible.
How did I handle surprises this year? What unexpected experience taught me something important?
3. River of Challenge
The River of Challenge is an invitation to grow and to stretch, to reach beyond the knowable, to observe when we feel challenged and let it be a source of strength. Accepting challenge allows our creative muscle to be developed.
Who or what challenged me this year? What invited me to grow or stretch, to move outside my comfort zone?
4. River of Love
The River of Love is simply an examination of the things that have great meaning in our lives, which can give you a strong sense of gratitude and connection to others.
What did I learn about love this year?

What's Most Interesting is what You Don't Write About
2/27/2017
I’ve been living on the house payment. Ouch.
PG&E $300 and Bar dues $400 due .
I’ll pay the bar dues instead of the health insurance.
Ahhhhhhh!
I took last week off.
It will be awhile until a county check arrives.
There, I said it.
Like Angeles Arrien said (I think) “What’s most interesting is what people don’t write about."
I like to back drawer and to not write about my financial risk
Still, what a powerful 11 days it’s been February 17-27. (I attended the Death Penalty conference in San Diego where I saw the movie “I’m not Your Negro”, the play “Perfect Arrangement, and marched in an anti Trump rally parade!)
Trading experience for security.
Risking = living.

Finding the Divine in the Commonplace
Thomas Merton, Angeles Arrien, et al.: 'Finding the Divine in the Commonplace"
[Image: “Divine Commonplace (Railroad at Twilight, 2022),” by John E. Simpson] We’re so inured these days to public self-disclosure of private lives; when we “know” someone online who zealously, and rightly, hides themselves online for the sake of the unfiltered virtues of what they do post there, it seems not just an anomaly, but a sacred one — a privacy we come to treasure just as much as the…

Hi! I was wondering if you happened to know any good resources, or places to find resources, for information on the muses? especially clio.. i've looked in a few places but cant find much.
hope youre having a wonderful day :D
Hello, Nonny, and thank you for the ask!
I had to ask a friend for some resources because I don't personally know very much about the Muses (although I probably should ^^;). My friend said they weren't able to find any books on the Muses so far, unfortunately, but here are some links they found!
-
Theoi.com - basic info can be found here; you can also look at what books they got their info from at the bottom, which could help in finding other resources to look into!
HistoryCooperative.org - my friend says they are brief but helpful
WorldHistory.org - again, brief but helpful
Wikipedia.org - may not seem trustworthy at first glance, but Wikipedia can be quite helpful
-
When looking specifically for Clio, Theoi should have a separate page written about her right here. Wikipedia also has some good information in their annotations, my friend says.
-
Regarding some book recommendations, my friend has not read these but has heard good things about The Nine Muses: A Mythological Path to Creativity by Angeles Arrien as well as Muses at Work: Arts, Crafts, and Professions in Ancient Greece and Rome by Carl Roebuck.
-
I hope these resources are helpful to you! If anyone has anything to contribute, please do, and I'll try to reblog your addition. Have a good day/night, and take care! 🧡☺️

King of Cups. Songs for the Journey Home Tarot
This image represents mature love. The arms gently encircling the sea to create a tranquil harbour symbolise the ability to lovingly unfold another without grasping or possessiveness. Relationship becomes a beautiful resting place: the coming together is a restoring and revitalising time. LWB. The cup in the king’s hand resembles the closed cup of the queen, but it has a narrow opening, which may symbolize the controlled expression of emotions. The cup appears to be divided into two parts held together by the hand but having a small misalignment. We can see this as an emotional rupture or maybe a broken heart, but the king manages to hold the pieces together and look forward. The raised brim of the hat expresses openness and reception toward new messages. It also opens the king’s field of vision to the right, signaling an optimistic look forward. While the feet point in the direction of the past, the lines of the floor converge toward the future. Interpretation: Emotional maturity and the wisdom of experience. An ability to overcome past sorrows and look forward; for example, getting over a psychological or romantic crisis. A lucid and realistic outlook that can still be positive and optimistic. A restrained and careful way of expressing emotions. Openness toward new experiences and new relationships but with prudence and caution. “Nothing is more whole than a broken heart.” Yoav Ben Dov. Is a visual representation of emotional loyalty, generosity, conunitment, and unconditional love. Mythically, this is the "Knight and the Holy Grail." Of all the Knights in the deck, this is the only one which is not helmeted: a symbol of openness, trust, and the willingness to be seen, the very qualities that are needed in order to be emotionally spontaneous, outreaching, and unguarded. Awekening the Inner Child for Libra
If this reading resonates with you and you would like a personal reading, feel free to send me a private message 🫧
Sorry, I lost my notes for the clarification cards, so you'll just have to trust me on my interpretation.
Your guiding card from Into The Lonely Woods: Gifts of the Lonely Path
"What once was a void has now become a world overflowing with delight and discovery. What once was darkness is now filled with stars (...) There are gifts here on the lonely path."
What is the main issue? Reversed 4 of Sword. There’s a general sense of loneliness. It’s also possible that you tend to stay in relationships out of fear of being alone. At the same time, a reluctance to connect with people might lead you to choose relationships or situations that don’t make you happy but also don’t require too much effort.
What does your inner child say about it? Reversed 2 of Cups + Knight of Swords. Well... your inner child is bored. It wants you to be more honest with your close ones. The Knight of Swords, who expresses his views clearly and confidently, would want to shout the truth out loud.
Which path to your inner child has been blocked? The Hermit. One of the life truths The Hermit teaches is summed up in this: “The most important thing in the world is to remain true to oneself” (The Tarot Handbook by Angeles Arrien about Thoth Tarot). The Hermit is also a loner who uses solitude to find their inner light, symbolized by the lantern he holds. However, Libra, you're not using solitude in a creative way; your inner evolution has been blocked. It seems like you are not hunting for what’s hidden, and you're also afraid of feeling sad right now.
How can you unlock this path? Reversed 5 of Staffs. Since you’re feeling bored, you need new experiences, and self-discovery is also an adventure. The Hermit suggests the need for inner activity. Challenge your own limitations.
How will this help solve your current issues? 5 of Cups + The Tower. The 5 of Cups suggests that this will allow you to release sadness, which this card represents. I see that you're afraid of being sad, but you won’t truly free yourself from sadness by acting out of fear. The Tower indicates that this will allow you to tear down old foundations, so that new ones can be built in their place. The Tower also symbolizes an awakening. After The Tower comes The Star, the symbol of relief and hope—keep this in mind.
What will this ultimately bring you? Page of Swords + Death. The Page symbolizes honesty. I think that for you, strengthening this trait will bring the relief mentioned above. Death card signifies cutting ties with the old self and discovering within you a powerful strength that will help you cope with life.
To sum up, I feel that your reading holds great power, especially with the Major Arcana cards that have shown up, which are exactly what you need considering the main issue described in the first position. These are very clear guidelines, realistic predictions, and align perfectly from a psychological perspective.
I hope this was inspiring, and take care!
