Over 40 students are interested in the wrestling sport. Tournaments, transportations, equipment, and health aides cost money. LAUSD was only able to provide $500.00 That's is barely enough for supplies, provide a team banquet, hotel(s) stay with(out) transportation, including feeding the athletes. We made it through tough times through lack of donations, loss of facilities, loss of turkey cooks, and last year was the cold weather and the hardest rain couldn’t stop the yearly event but and now this year dealing with COVID-19. For a grassroots idea, that was started as a group of family, friends students, community members it has became an organization and its growing need has grown to year round. There is no blueprint for what we do. We don’t overthink it, we keep pushing till we can’t push no more, we keep trying no matter how late or long it takes, but we know there is a message and the involvement, the spirit, and the journey is providing the answer. Looking for comments from the community to see if we will have a strong interest and involvement to pull this off. We dont just put on the event to feed the 500 +/- indiviuals and families, we provide clothing (not this year due to COVID-19) toiletries and other essentials, we also take hot meals prepared from the event, a food box and gift card to 20 +/- students and their families (100 +/- members) of WIlmington Community Schools to assist their food insecurities during Thanksgiving vacation break.
