Contra Returns
Contra had first made its way to smartphones with a 2011 remake of the first game, dubbed Contra: Evolution. For a follow-up, Konami joined up with Chinese mobile developer Tencent and their subsidiary TiMi Studio Group to create Contra Returns. This is a drastically more ambitious title, one that’s also technically a remake of the first game but adds in elements from nearly every other Contra game.

[...] even though it took me an episode or two to warm up to it, I really enjoyed Metallic Rouge. The intriguing blend of sci-fi action thriller and stylish mecha/superhero aesthetic, cooked in a delicious stew of multicultural influences and wrapped in a layer of eclectic and varied soundtrack choices, definitely scratched that itch for me, though it seems like popular consensus is a bit mixed. Give it a try yourself, see what you think of it!

Super good episode. Most of this season is fantastic. This one is really fun. It's nice to see old friends like Harry and Benton. I enjoy having the android doubles of everyone as well.

Hey y'all!
I know I haven't posted a ton on here in a while, mostly because I forget I have an account...but I have to make this known right now.
YouTube, as of today 11 November 2024, on the android and TV app is absolutely ABYSMAL to use. I will reblog with a series of reasons why, but I can outline my main points. Be warned, this is a loooooong one. Get your Worms on Strings and Furrets ready, smack your bellies like Monty Mole, and prepare some tea with Chandelure and Mii as we go through the main issues detailed here with the new Youtube App Update on Android:
The new floating mini player that "randomly" flies off the screen and closes out in the middle of the video you watch and gets in the way of anything you want to do with PIP mode within the app.
Videos suddenly pause and being unable to resume where you left off when you press the play button
Speaking of random and sudden pauses, YouTube also now has a "feature" (read: BUG) that after a while of playing a video, if you're in Vertical/Portrait layout to read the comments easily and do something else, the video doesn't play anymore. You'll have to turn to Horizontal/Landscape mode to resume the video (If the problem is not the previously mentioned inability to resume)
In some cases YouTube COMPLETELY froze up while I've used this since the update. For no reason.
On the TV app, even for videos that are no more than 20-40 minutes max (we're not talking stream vods or compilation videos) get hit with six or seven ads at a time and you can only skip if it's either some three minute trailer or after four ads.
YouTube won't let you block certain ads that you've reported for scam fraud, inappropriate to you, repetitive etc just to cajole you into buying their premium. Literal scam ads about fake US Stimulus Healthcare checks, false auto insurance for "only $18/month" that will come through your information, and literal porn game ads every time I watch. I don't ask for that.
Trying to upload shorts (the thing that is heavily pushed to compete with Tiktok and Instagram Reels?) is also now a pain in the ass.
You'll hear more from me soon, I'm collecting everything I need to make a viable rant on this and eventually make this into a video.

Alien: Romulus – A Return to the Core of the Franchise
Alien: Romulus takes us back to the raw, terrifying core of the Alien franchise, where the fear of survival in the face of a perfect predator defines everything. Directed by Fede Álvarez, this film strips things back to the original Alien formula—ordinary people facing an unimaginable threat in an isolated, claustrophobic setting. While other entries in the series, like Aliens (1986), took a more…

Tried out Google’s “Blogger”
I tried out Google’s blog thingy for, well, bloggers. It isn’t bad, but the app version of it REALLY needs some work, because there’s NO WAY that they just allow Google products to just be fucking SHIT for Android.
I don’t know how their business model will be maintained if they can’t even add options they have for Google Docs on PC/Laptop to Android phones and tablets. Apple products do it automatically, but Android doesn’t. Google needs to FIX THIS! There should be an option AT LEAST to turn on smart quotes and also turn it off when need be.
I know the Google keyboard has an option for smart quotes, yet it’s far from perfect. I wish there was an option for them to correct to smart quotes immediately.

today in "I Am Good At Finances": a Phone
so i had a random target gift card i had no better use for, and decided "fuck it" in the electronics section. i tried to find the absolute best phone i could for 50 bucks (briefly considering a KaiOS flip phone), eventually settling on an AT&T prepaid Motorola moto g play (2023). it's...actually pretty decent!
Tumblr media
so this thing claims it has a 90hz refresh, but it's *extremely* variable lol, i've found that on the home screen it can keep 90hz but it definitely doesn't always keep to that high refresh. i honestly just turned off the 90hz variable mode and just run it at 60 (phones dont need any more than that anyways, imho) the display is otherwise pretty excellent, it's an OLED with pretty nice colors and it feels nice.
the cameras are definitely quite average, despite having 3 of them lol
Tumblr media
overall power is...lacking but sufficient, the thing has a MediaTek Helio P35 which can keep up with youtube fine enough but does everything just a *touch* too slow to be a smooth experience. it's handled everything i've thrown at it (osrs and n64 emulation, lol) perfectly, though. so clearly the power isn't going to waste, it just struggles to open discord lmao overall, i could easily live with this thing, and honestly for the price you're paying you could do So Much Worse. it remains to be seen how well it'll hold up in the future but for the occasions i need android for something it does quite well.

Quinton Reviews is being stalked and harassed by a former editor because he didn't want to date her.
All my notes on the post have told me that and I did watch the video afterwards! I do tend to just steer away from creators who have to make apology videos for anything even if they're probably not in the wrong because the aftermath usually turns up something Bad but I misinterpreted the video as an apology video based on thumbnail and title when it's not, it's just Quinton explaining a situation that happened before it could get any worse, doesn't seem like Quinton actually did anything problematic like so that's good ;d Hope this situation gets better for him soon
