It had everything I wanted when I saw the trailer.
Great for movie night. Bring back sexy thrillers. This movie knew what it was. Did exactly what it was supposed to do, and more movies should follow its lead.

In the world of indie and middle market gaming today, there are no shortage of games that combine deck building and roguelite elements. It’s become as tiring as a horror game where you find random objects in a small map while trying not to trigger a jump scare, or anything based around survival and crafting mechanics. To stand out from the crowd, you need to do something special, and that’s what the anonymous developer “Localthunk” has done. This was managed simply by removing the usual dressings and focusing on as simplistic a core idea as you possibly can – building poker hands. It gets absolutely absurd from there.

“Despair like that, about total reality, is self-perpetuating."
The silence of the world could not rein back its greed. Not any longer. Not when it had virtually won.
Empathy, evidently, existed only within the human community, whereas intelligence to some degree could be found throughout every phylum and order including the arachnida. For one thing, the empathic faculty probably required an unimpaired group instinct; a solitary organism, such as a spider, would have no use for it; in fact it would tend to abort a spider's ability to survive. It would make him conscious of the desire to live on the part of his prey.
Because, ultimately, the empathic gift blurred the boundaries between hunter and victim, between the successful and the defeated.
He thought, too, about his need for a real animal; within him an actual hatred once more manifested itself toward his electric sheep, which he had to tend, had to care about, as if it lived. The tyranny of an object, he thought. It doesn't know I exist. Like the androids, it had no ability to appreciate the existence of another.
Empathy toward an artificial construct? he asked himself. Something that only pretends to be alive?
“But when you get that depressed you don't care. Apathy, because you've lost a sense of worth. It doesn't matter whether you feel better, because if you have no worth—"
The old man said, "You will be required to do wrong no matter where you go. It is the basic condition of life, to be required to violate your own identity. At some time, every creature which lives must do so. It is the ultimate shadow, the defeat of creation; this is the curse at work, the curse that feeds on all life. Everywhere in the universe.”

Hey y'all!
I know I haven't posted a ton on here in a while, mostly because I forget I have an account...but I have to make this known right now.
YouTube, as of today 11 November 2024, on the android and TV app is absolutely ABYSMAL to use. I will reblog with a series of reasons why, but I can outline my main points. Be warned, this is a loooooong one. Get your Worms on Strings and Furrets ready, smack your bellies like Monty Mole, and prepare some tea with Chandelure and Mii as we go through the main issues detailed here with the new Youtube App Update on Android:
The new floating mini player that "randomly" flies off the screen and closes out in the middle of the video you watch and gets in the way of anything you want to do with PIP mode within the app.
Videos suddenly pause and being unable to resume where you left off when you press the play button
Speaking of random and sudden pauses, YouTube also now has a "feature" (read: BUG) that after a while of playing a video, if you're in Vertical/Portrait layout to read the comments easily and do something else, the video doesn't play anymore. You'll have to turn to Horizontal/Landscape mode to resume the video (If the problem is not the previously mentioned inability to resume)
In some cases YouTube COMPLETELY froze up while I've used this since the update. For no reason.
On the TV app, even for videos that are no more than 20-40 minutes max (we're not talking stream vods or compilation videos) get hit with six or seven ads at a time and you can only skip if it's either some three minute trailer or after four ads.
YouTube won't let you block certain ads that you've reported for scam fraud, inappropriate to you, repetitive etc just to cajole you into buying their premium. Literal scam ads about fake US Stimulus Healthcare checks, false auto insurance for "only $18/month" that will come through your information, and literal porn game ads every time I watch. I don't ask for that.
Trying to upload shorts (the thing that is heavily pushed to compete with Tiktok and Instagram Reels?) is also now a pain in the ass.
You'll hear more from me soon, I'm collecting everything I need to make a viable rant on this and eventually make this into a video.

I haven’t touched Detroit: Become Human in years, and frankly I won’t go into dept with it bc I want to forget enough to play the game with as clear a head as I can.
But I can’t help thinking of a missed opportunity. I, along with many others, think the political message they included in the game was not the right one. But I think the game had room for a political message, not about idk the weird subtext about race and slavery (tho in fairness, I feel like another storyline/game set in the D:BH world wouldn’t be amiss in covering it), but about ableism.
I mean, how many autistic people get called robots daily? Or consider the current capitalistic hellscape that drops a person to their doom the moment they’re not 100% fit and able to work themselves to the bone. It ties into the humanity of the androids, as well as relating to current world issues, AND it’s relevant to the world they were trying to build, about how androids are so much better than humans so humans get replaced.
They could’ve explored how the moment an Android isn’t operating at 100% efficiency, people with the money might just drop them and get a new one, about what makes a human a person, and how we don’t really know, so how can we know if an Android is or isn’t a person? And shouldn’t we treat them with respect regardless?
Maybe someone’s talked about this before but goddamn. The opportunity they missed.

[...] even though it took me an episode or two to warm up to it, I really enjoyed Metallic Rouge. The intriguing blend of sci-fi action thriller and stylish mecha/superhero aesthetic, cooked in a delicious stew of multicultural influences and wrapped in a layer of eclectic and varied soundtrack choices, definitely scratched that itch for me, though it seems like popular consensus is a bit mixed. Give it a try yourself, see what you think of it!

Super good episode. Most of this season is fantastic. This one is really fun. It's nice to see old friends like Harry and Benton. I enjoy having the android doubles of everyone as well.

The Zachtronics Solitaire Collection
If you’ve been plugged into the indie scene, you have probably heard of Zachtronics before. A small studio created by one Zach Barth, Zachtronics has been responsible for a lot of unique games, usually puzzle focused, with Zach also having some infamy for making a game some believe lead to the inspiration for Minecraft with Infiniminer. Some of the studios’ most notable releases included SHENZHEN I/O, EXAPUNKS, and Eliza, the latter a bit of a formula breaker as a visual novel about mental health and technology based therapy. The studio seems to be closed as of the release of Last Call BBS, Zach Barth interested in escaping a niche his studio grew into, though he did give us one last gift under the studio banner with The Zachtronics Solitaire Collection. This is as the title suggests, a collection of solitaire games Zach developed for seven of his previous games, along with one new unique and punishing game exclusive to this collection. Considering how fleshed out these games have been just by themselves, having them in a single place instead of an extra in a unrelated game is very welcome.

Alien: Romulus – A Return to the Core of the Franchise
Alien: Romulus takes us back to the raw, terrifying core of the Alien franchise, where the fear of survival in the face of a perfect predator defines everything. Directed by Fede Álvarez, this film strips things back to the original Alien formula—ordinary people facing an unimaginable threat in an isolated, claustrophobic setting. While other entries in the series, like Aliens (1986), took a more…

A Review: Does it Count if you Lose your Virginity to an Android
Tumblr media
Author: Yakinikuteishoku Illustrator: Yakinikuteishoku Publishers: Seven Seas Entertainment Age Group: Older Teen, 17+/YA, Mature Genre: Girl Love, Romance Type: Manga
Content Warnings: Sex, Lewd/Naughtiness, dubious consent
Spoilers ahead
Plot
Beautiful, brainy Tsuda Akana is indispensable at the robotics manufacturer where she works, but her colleagues never see her private side. At home, Akane’s a hot mess with an apartment that looks more like a landfill than a living space. When she drunkenly orders a maid to help her tidy up, the lady android who arrives is a horny hottie who’s about o give Akane more service than she bargained for!
Character Development
The two main characters in this are well thought out.
Our protagonist is a brilliant young woman who is frustrated that all her planning (as she’s in the planning department) doesn’t get used once it’s in development. Her company focuses on making A.I. appliances and tech that will help make everyday life easier. She prefers to keep life just the way it is as she thinks that having a beer after a long day is more perfect than doom-scrolling with A.I. spectacles.
While her home is a disaster zone, when you mix this with beer we get shopping sprees. What’s better than getting a maid? Akane is brilliant during the day and a slob at night. It makes her character endearing from the start. The audience can relate to her because who doesn’t like a little retail therapy?
Akane is a thorough thinker. We see this when Nadeshiko tries to seduce her into “registering her fingerprint” in a certain feminine organ. Akane doesn’t want to because pleasure androids are illegal in this world and registering would not only make her complicit in such an activity but also make Nadeshiko seem like a slave (which doesn’t sit right with her). This is understandable as Nadeshiko doesn’t act or appear like normal android technologies. She can learn, has feelings, and even feels like a human. Thus, we also see that Akane has good morals as well.
Akane is also a bit of a nerd as she learns about Nadeshiko’s different functions. Being in the planning department that uses A.I. technology, she can’t help but want to know more as Nadeshiko is vastly superior to anything on the actual market.
Only our secondary protagonist isn’t just a maid, she’s a pleasure android. Nadeshiko may be a horndog of an android but she’s also very sweet. She learns functions that can help “her master” (thought not really her master…yet) such as cooking and cleaning. She can be cunning by using her body to get Akane worked up and try to trick her into “registering”. This doesn’t happen as Akane comes to her senses at the last minute. Nadeshiko is also naive and misses social cues outside the bedroom.
Other characters outside of this are flat. We don’t get to know Akane’s co-workers well, other than they exist. There’s not a lot of reason for them besides showing more about Akane’s work and what it’s like.
World-building
The bit of world-building we do get shows that A.I. has been adapted to make lives easier and enjoyable. The VR spectacles are fascinating in their own right. We also know that pleasure androids are illegal. This is an interesting piece of information showing the world is still pretty conservative and weary of utilizing A.I. in those regards. Having a story that uses A.I. correlates well with the emergence of A.I. in our reality.
The smut may be vanilla but the bathroom scene does have a unique twist that’s worth mentioning. It’s a nice twist that gives the classic bathroom scene a new take.
Themes
Don’t drink and shop.  This is a good idea because as they say "don't shop on an empty stomach." I think the same maxim can be said for retail therapy while tipsy and drunk.
Observations & Predictions
While the main characters are great, the world-building needs to be fleshed out more. This first volume is just full of comedy watching Akane deal with this new development in her life and failing miserably. Also, the smut is pretty vanilla (while necessary as Akane was a virgin) is what you’d expect from a smut title.
I hope that with the coming volumes we get more of a plot, more background character development, and more imaginative smut. As of this first volume, it’s cute but not worth the read.
**Watch for a special edition of the second volume.**
