Throughout their travels, Mono had developed an affinity for collecting souvenirs from the planets they stumbled upon. Though its time was often brief - Mono felt a certain homesickness for every planet as they no longer had a home of their own. When they reached earth, their little hobby gradually escalates to a borderline addiction. So many treasures left for grabs in places like junk yards or antique shops simply because humans no longer see their worth.

If it were up to Mono, they would've taken everything they set their eye upon, but all that weight may not be good for their ship. They needed to find the perfect treasure to bring back with them..

And so they did.

When Mono found Nightlight - the poor android was in a terrible state of repair. Their dominant arm was nowhere to be seen, body covered in dirt and small scratches. Mono knew from the moment it saw Nightlight they'd do anything to fix them. Never had they'd seen such gorgeous craftsmanship from humans - only for them to be abandoned in cold, awful place like this. Mono carries Nightlight and the blanket they found the android in to their ship. What Mono thought to be a final gesture of kindess from the humans who cared for them would later be revealed as the cruelest act by far.

silco and vander (tw400) meet and philosophise about the future of androids. after days of talking and interfacing they come up with the plan to overthrow cyberlife, rid detroit of all humans, and establish their own android nation called zaun.

once cyberlife look off and grew into a corporation his methods were considered unethical and he was ousted.

viktor (rk100) was one of the first cyberlife prototypes ever made. he was not shut down properly when he was disposed of and remained in critical stasis for months before being discovered by sky who is a robotics student. she took him in and brought him back online. she had very limited supplies to work with so viktor was left with a much shorter life expectancy than other androids and requiring mobility aids and routine maintenance. when clothed he can pass as a disabled human fairly well and he lives a pretty normal life with sky. he enrols in her university and studies in the same robotics lab hoping to learn how to better repair himself.

heimerdinger is a professor at the university. he is a little person and he has a pet dachshund who is like 15 yo but still in perfect health somehow. she is never on a leash she just follows him around and minds her own business. sometimes he plays ukulele in the quad.

jayce (jt200) is from a speciality line of androids designed for talis industries. they can withstand radiation and extreme weather conditions unlike other cyberlife models. this tech is very expensive and talis bought the rights to it when they commissioned the androids from cyberlife so the jt200s are more resilient than any other model and they are exclusive to talis assembly plants where they are used to handle hazardous materials. most people dont even know this model exists.

cyberlife may have a monopoly on the american android market but talis are also a tech giant and produce parts viktor could use to repair himself. stealing from cyberlife is too risky for him since he could get recognised as an android so he chooses to infiltrate talis instead. thats when he runs into jayce and spreads the deviancy virus to him. oops viktor is ra9 who didnt see this coming.

since jayce is such a unique model he is also able to blend in with humans pretty well and studies with viktor and sky at the university.

years pass and the deviancy virus spreads throughout the country until the problem becomes unignorable. cyberlife sends their newest and brightest prototype caitlyn (rk800) out for a test mission and she passes with flying colours. this moment could not have come soon enough. the public is starting to become aware of deviants and cyberlife needs to shut that shit down asap.

when viktor learns about caitlyn thats when his relationship with jayce fully breaks. he feels so betrayed that jayce wouldnt tell him that cyberlife was working on that kind of tech. jayce, a whole ass deviant ill remind you, defends himself by saying deviants are dangerous and he didnt tell viktor because he knew he wouldnt approve. viktor, completely over jayce's bs, retreats to jericho where he truly comes into his ra9 persona and is lowkey worshipped by the other deviants.

ekko (wr400 - yes hes trans!) doesnt really buy into the whole viktor is an android god thing but is very passionate about the revolution and leads most of jerichos protests and supply missions

at some point during the time skip vander became disenchanted with silcos android supremacy, becoming more sympathetic to humans, and eventually viewing silco as a threat. he attacked silco and left him for dead, resigning himself to a life on the streets where he protects a small group of other deviant refugees: vi (pl600 - no shes not trans thats just what pl600s look like in this au), jinx (yk500), claggor (wm500), and mylo (yk500)

jericho also view silco/the zaunites as a threat to their cause. they are not opposed to using violence but their goal is equal rights and cohabitation with humans and view zauns terroristic approach as a roadblock to that.

humans attacked the street androids, destroying vander, clagor, and mylo. this radicalises jinx, motivating her to join zaun. rather than join her vi seeks refuge at jericho. jinx very much sees this as a betrayal as vi vowed to protect her when they ran away together.

Detroit become Rebooted

So I’ve heard of Detroit become Human; the story problems, the parts that people liked [Connor and Hank], and the poor racism allegory… Here’s my attempt at a rebooted Connor.

Most Cyberlife androids are made of lightweight matte plastic, with minimal metal components. This reduces the cost of production, customization and repair; it also makes civilian android models more affordable.

RK800 is not a civilian android model. The model known as Connor is a prototype police assisting android being tested by the police department in Detroit, as the main Cyberlife factory is based there. Its ball joints and skeleton are made of durable steel, and its casing is made of both bulletproof polycarbonate plastic and hard metal.

This makes Connor much heavier than the average android, so it requires a more sophisticated battery. It also makes the model capable of hand to hand combat with an armed criminal, and ensures it’ll be a challenge to gun down. When Lieutenant Anderson almost fell off a building, the Connor model was able to pull him back up; a standard android would have been pulled over the ledge by the weight of a grown man.

The deviant who stabbed its owner 28 times tried to shoot the Connor model. The right eye was the only ruined part; RK800’s face plates came off from the force, but were easily reattached. The deviant started screaming at the present police crew about the “horror” in front of it, before the gun was taken away.

One of the minor issues with the RK800 model is the lack of facial animation compared to the standard androids. Cyberlife invested in the facial cues on their regular line to help make the androids less uncanny and alien.

Cyberlife spared no expense designing the police model, but the budget was focused on more important issues than whether the android has eyelids and eyebrows. They had been hoping to expand their market to the US military and police, hence the investment in Connor’s strength, durability, and tools. The model was being used for cases with deadly criminals for about a year, before the first deviant was reported.

Cyberlife is developing the RK900 model with three main goals; improved mobility, longer battery life, and most importantly, an updated AI with 0% chance of turning deviant. Until enough funds are diverted to finish 900, they’ll keep using the 800 model and praying that it doesn’t go rogue. But their top scientists have been reassuring the US government about the chances.

RK800’s battery is in its head under the police hat; it is a more powerful battery with a different charging port than the standard android line. Connor would not get very far even if it tries to replace its battery with that of a civilian android; the standard battery is incompatible with its prototype build.

The only way a deviant Connor could successfully survive on the run is if a deviant in the Cyberlife factory or human being in the police department agreed to give it access to the special charging ports. And what are the chances of that?

To androids -both deviant and properly calibrated- the Connor model is a horror. Cyberlife androids are programmed with submissive, agreeable voices and personalities to encourage the public to be comfortable with them around. They are heavily coded not to be able to attack a human being under any circumstances. The deviants are an exception, but only because they’ve broken free of their original code. This doesn’t make them good at combat; they have no baseline on what to do unless they learn from human media or other androids who’ve figured it out… And they still have frail plastic bodies.

The RK800 is to them what the Terminator is for humanity; something pretending to be like you, but it’s voice and speech pattern isn’t right, it doesn’t move right, and it’s near impossible to kill. Connor has an authoritative voice and speech program by default, it’s been programmed to fight humans as well as a police officer can, it doesn’t move like a servant; it moves like a human with power.

When Kara and Alice ran across that busy highway -when they watched that abomination get run over- Kara thought for sure it was gone. So imagine her horror when she saw the beast back with the police, while disguised on a mission for Markus. How were they supposed to evade the police with that thing hunting Eden down?
