I just finished watching Tales of the Jedi for the 2nd time and I’d like to share my thoughts.

Spoilers for TotJ!!!

The series overall—Animation was ok (I mentioned how Rex/the clone model still looked off here) but overall it was good (especially the environments). THE MUSIC WAS 💯💕 BEAUTIFUL. There were a few things that was kinda like 🤔 but it’s nothing too major and I had some thoughts on what I, personally, would’ve liked to see.

Ep1–Life and Death

—Thought it was good. Baby Ahsoka’s design is similar to the one shown briefly in CW 👍

—The panda dog things were adorable and the food they eat looks SO SIMILAR to Mantell Mix

—The village elder does 3 hand poses (and says something in their native language) when Ahsoka’s mom made a kill, which reminded me of Rebels and the 3 hand poses that opens the portal thing

—Giant cat looked very tiger-y and immediately thought of Jungle Book, though the stories are very different.

Ep2–Justice

—Loved Young Dooku/Quigon duo. Like their designs/interactions, everything, was really good imo

—Dooku wears a cape and not a jedi robe

—Quigon didn’t have his padawan braid but I guess that was time between Padawan/Knight.

—Liked the fact that the senator’s son wasn’t upset about being kidnapped. Loved 2 Ton’s design (the droid)

—clearly sets up Dooku’s fall to the dark side.

Ep3–Choices

—The Mace/Dooku duo was something I’ve wanted since seeing them in Attack of the Clones.

—Mace’s design is also changed slightly (like Anakin/Ahsoka/Obi) to keep up with the better technology. How old is Mace? I honestly don’t know and actually expected him to look a bit younger. Like I know he trained Depa Bilaba (Caleb/Kanan’s master) but, to me, he seemed to be the same age as he was in CW.

—Loved that AotC was more of a noir/detective movie and seemed to continue into this episode (Windu/Dooku solving a jedi murder case).

—I think the guard guy that Mace killed was the son of the guy with the different colored eyes. Which means Mace killed someone’s son and left a father without a child and he also killed Boba’s father Jango, leaving Boba without a father. That’s just my opinion/HC and wasn’t confirmed or anything.

—MACE DID NOT STEAL THE COUNCIL SEAT FROM DOOKU! From context, Dooku has no problem doing things his way and explaining it to the Council. That means this has happened more than the one time we saw in context of this episode. I believe Dooku never really had a chance at a seat on the Council. He believed he did. I think his own ego/shortsightedness blinded Dooku into believing he was guaranteed a spot on the Council

—By now it’s clear that Anakin and Dooku have a lot in common (think RotS when Anakin got upset that he wasn’t a ‘master’ but on the Council)

Ep4–The Sith Lord

—This was my favorite episode!

—MASTER YADDLE!!! FINALLY!!! I believe we first see her in The Phantom Menace when Anakin is brought to the Temple on Coruscant and the jedi are testing him. She appears briefly in the background and has no speaking lines if I remember correctly. I know Yaddle has a different story in Star Wars Legends (the Extended Universe—books/video games etc) but I actually really enjoyed seeing her.

—Her relationship with Dooku seemed really important. Dooku was Yoda’s padawan and my own HC is that Yaddle and Yoda are Grogu’s (Baby Yoda) parents. I believe Yoda/Dooku/Yaddle were kind of like Anakin/Ahsoka/Obiwan respectively. Ahsoka is Anakin’s padawan but also had Obi-wan as a friend/mentor just like Dooku is Yoda’s padawan, but also seemed to be friends with Yaddle.

—Also I believe this was the only episode that is set during one of the movies (Phantom Menace). Dooku talks with Quigon about the Sith Lord (Darth Maul) that he and Obiwan encountered on Tatooine before it changes to Yaddle informing Dooku about Quigon’s funeral (after being killed by Maul on Naboo). She is clearly concerned about Dooku, especially when he says he must let Quigon go as he’s one with the Force. She asks him if he ‘can do this’, to which he responds with ‘what choice have I?’

—Dooku’s always been shown to have great control over his emotions (which is why he doesn’t have sith eyes) but despite that, Yaddle’s concern wins out and she follows him to his meeting with Emperor Palpatine.

—DOOKU LOVED QUIGON JUST LIKE OBI LOVED ANAKIN! His convo with Yaddle earlier (about the tree) clearly showed that. And he was RIGHTLY upset that Palpy had him killed by Maul.

—SHE LEFT THE COUNCIL FOR DOOKU!!! SHE EVEN ADMITTED HE WAS RIGHT!! That is love right there. She clearly had a loving friendship relationship with Dooku for her to leave the Council. And what does Obi-wan tell Satine? ‘Had you said the word, I would’ve left the Jedi Order’. Yaddle probably didn’t think of Dooku in a romantic way (I hope), but she obviously cared about him just as he cared for Quigon.

—YADDLE BEGGED DOOKU TO HELP HER BRING PALPY TO JUSTICE.

—THAT WHOLE FIGHT, JESUS!

—Ok, whoever is in charge of ratings sucks cuz there’s no way that this episode was TV-PG. Yaddle’s death was BRUTAL! Like they didn’t really show the blade connecting, but they showed her lifeless body after, made the saber-on-flesh-sound, and showed Dooku beginning the execution move. JESUS Disney. Shit

Ep5–Practice Makes Perfect

—Seeing young Anakin and mullet-Obiwan in clone armor made me SO HAPPY!!!

—The sass is still there!! AAHHH!!!

—Plo Koon sitting with Yoda, Obiwan and Anakin watching Ahsoka proudly was such a dad-move!!!

—And seeing young Caleb/Kanan and Bilaba at Ahsoka’s training test was amazing! And he was so obviously gushing about Ahsoka to Bilaba when they walked out lol

—MASTER SINUBE!!! GRAMPS!!! Was this before or after that Lightsaber Lost ep?!?!

—Of course Anakin was unimpressed with the test and unintentionally taught her how to survive O66.

—Seeing the clones in phase 1 armor again made me flash back to early CW animation.

—ABSOLUTELY LOVED JESSE’S LITTLE ‘Sorry Commander!’ As it was funny in the moment and tragic when you think about the fact that Jesse lead the turned clones during O66 and was going to kill Ahsoka (and possibly Rex too).

—I think this episode is the only one with a time skip. Loved the transition of the stuns and Ahsoka waking up older and seeing the clones in their phase 2 armor.

—THEY MADE ANAKIN’S TRAINING INTO A GAME!!!

—Then skipped again to O66 with Ahsoka and Rex walking into the hangar full of clones ready to kill them (with Jesse out front).

—Gave me Arcane ep7 Ekko/Jinx vibes TO THE MAX!! (Though if I’m being honest, I preferred Arcane’s version though it’s so close lol).

Ep6��Resolve

—Ok so I think out of all of them, this one’s the worst.

—Don’t get me wrong, it was ok, but out of every ep, I didn’t really care for it.

—My fav part/scene was Padme’s funeral and Bail’s convo with her.

—Ahsoka is living in hiding in a small farming village that has Empire presence I guess.

—Ahsoka has to use the Force to save one of the workers, who realizes Ahsoka is a jedi. Her brother rats Ahsoka out and an Inquisitor comes. From what I’ve heard online, it’s the 6th Brother?? Idk so please correct me if I’m wrong (I believe we’ve seen the 3rd Sister-Reva, 5th Brother, 7th Sister, and the 8th Brother briefly)

—So I’ve never gotten into SW Legends (the Extended Universe), but apparently from what I’ve seen online, this episode is supposed to be an animated version of a book called Ahsoka. It’s basically telling the same story 2 different ways.

—That’s pretty lazy 🤔 to me. Like there are so many other story options (even within just Ahsoka) so it still could’ve worked out 3 v 3 (3 Ahsoka/3 Dooku) eps. I’ve never read the book but I believe it’s about Ahsoka’s time after O66 and how she gets her white lightsabers.

—I heard that the female worker Ahsoka saves is actually black/dark-skinned in the book which is blatant whitewashing (I think I also read that the character was also established as queer). She was replaced by a female with fair skin, straight brown hair and light hazel-y brown eyes. SERIOUSLY?! THE WHITEWASHING HAS TO STOP!!! POC MATTER (in the US, it’s Nov so it’s Native American Heritage month! And Nov 1st was dia de los muertos/day of the dead).

—The Inquisitor’s design looked cool af

—The fight was ok. Reminded me a little of Maul v Obiwan but b/c there was no obvious history it wasn’t very impactful. Liked how he faded away though. And from what I read, he’s voiced by Clancy Brown??? Really!? I love Clancy Brown!! Also it seemed like the Inquisitor knew Ahsoka (he knew her name), though Ahsoka made no connection to him.

I guess those are my main thoughts on the series as a whole and on each episode as well.

What I’d change:

—ep 6 entirely. I’d actually would’ve loved to see how Ahsoka got her second lightsaber instead of the Inquisitor.

—the whitewashed clone model obviously

—So I loved ep4 and Dooku vs Yaddle, BUT! How cool would it have been if Dooku’s saber slowly changed to purple as the fight went on before turning red as he struck down the Jedi Master?? I’m sure that would absolutely go against how lightsabers turn red, having to do with emotions/feelings and that Dooku is great at controlling his own emotions. I just think that would’ve been cool. Though I’m sure that goes against how he actually got them (assuming it’s explained in Legends or something).

—I loved ep1 and baby ‘Soka. But I also love Plo Koon. Would’ve died to see him discover her and talk with her parents/the village elder.

What I’d like to see going forward, assuming there will be a s2 (w/ 6eps):

—MORE CLONE CONTENT!! Gimme a story about Boil going back to Ryloth with Waxer’s armor (post Umbara) and telling Numa what happened to their ‘nera’. Gimme cadet cody/rex bonding! Gimme 99’s creation and demotion to maintenance!! Would also give Disney yet another chance to change the clone model (though if we do get more clone content I highly doubt they would). Gimme Jango/Boba bonding (bonus points for Omega’s creation) I’d like to know SPECIFICALLY what Jango told Boba to make him hate clones. Gimme Wolffe’s demotion from Marshall Commander cuz he lost the whole 104th on the Malevolence. Gimme more clone domestic-life with the boys painting their armor/being w/ their Jedi generals. Just GIMME MORE CLONE BOYS!!! UNWHITEWASHED!!!!

—You can’t tell me that Tales of the Clones wouldn’t be badass lol

—I’d love to see General Grievous’s backstory. From what I’ve seen online, he’s some sort of warrior-hero/savior to his people but the Empire (I think) turned him into what we know as ‘Grievous’. Also that’s not even his name (I forget what it really is, but b/c Grievous sounds like ‘grieve’ I have a bad feeling that it has to do with his people or something).

—Young Yoda and his master. Yoda talks the way he does b/c of his master, which is why Yaddle doesn’t speak the same way (which makes me feel like Baby Yoda/Grogu will sound just like Mando lol).

—Black Krrsantan (Santo-the black wookie form BoBF) or Chewie’s backstory. I know we get a bit of Chewie from Solo: A Star Wars Story and would honestly prefer more Santo content (I think he fights Obiwan in a comic or something) but idk how likely that would be.

—Samuel L. Jackson has stated that he wants to return to Mace Windu/SW and was quoted saying of Mace’s demise- ‘in Star Wars, people survive getting their hands chopped off all the time. So it’s possible,” (or something like that—point is, he thinks Mace could’ve survived his fall/chopped limb). Would love to see Mace post O66 if he in fact, lives.

—Grogu teaching younglings the Jedi and Mandalorian ways, diving into his backstory pre-Mando. I HC that he’s Yaddle and Yoda’s son. It would also give SW a chance to tell a story post—the Skywalker saga timeline (Phantom Menace all the way through to the Rise of Skywalker), since Grogu can out-live the characters in the sequel trilogy.

—I’d like to see High Republic era stuff. I know little to nothing about that era but from fanart I’ve seen, it looks dope af (I know the new animated show Young Jedi Adventures is supposed to be set during that era, but it’s aimed for preschoolers so obviously I’d like something more adult set in that era—but I’m still going to check it out when it releases! Lol)

—I played the SW computer game The Old Republic so I’d also love anything set during that era as well (Master Satele Shan, Master Orgus Din, etc)

So I think that’s most of my thoughts on Tales of the Jedi. I definitely like it more than Bad Batch but not sure if it’s better than CW (to me they are equal). Thanks to all that have made it through this post. I promise I’ll be back with a fic real soon. Thanks everyone!

for @jedijune - I thought I’d contribute some more to all the Jedi love. Press “j” to skip, it’s horrendously long.

A quick (lmao) tour of the Jedi Order’s views on blood ties and nuclear/traditional families in LucasFilms canon.

Basically, instances of Jedi calling each other brother, sister, father, etc. and their peers’ reactions to this. It’s a common misconception that despite the Jedi having their own unorthodox family structures and own ways of demonstrating love, “regular” familial bonds are taboo. Let’s see what canon has to say about that.

(This is already a very long post, so I’m ignoring Luke and Vader’s relationship, as well as Anakin and Shmi’s. Those cases are unusual and very complex, and my goal is to showcase the Jedi’s general take on family, not their opinions on two exceptions.)

1) Likening your Master to a family member = fairly common

AotC Obi-Wan and Anakin

AotC Anakin to Padmé, about Obi-Wan

Jedi Crash, TCW s1e13 Aayla Secura to Ahsoka, about Quinlan Vos and Anakin

Gone Without a Trace, TCW s7e5 Ahsoka to Trace Martez, about Anakin

Ahsoka and Anakin may be unusual Jedi, but Aayla isn’t. In RotS and TCW s7, we see her in a Council meeting despite her being a Knight. It means she is respected and trusted despite her youth and low rank. Aayla isn’t characterized as a maverick in any way despite her chaotic Master, and we have thus no reason to believe her openness about her relationship with Quinlan is an exception. What’s more, in the episode she’s specifically using that relationship to explain to Ahsoka how love for one’s Master and the importance of letting go aren’t contradictory.

Obi-Wan doesn’t appear in the least uncomfortable after Anakin’s admission. He actually takes it so casually it seems to imply this is not the first time he’s heard this. Far from dismissing Anakin’s feelings or rebuking him for calling him a father figure, Obi-Wan uses the analogy to ask Anakin why he isn’t better behaved - he’s literally asking “well if I’m your dad, why can’t you be a good kid?”

In all four cases, the Jedi comparing their Master to a family member is either talking to a non-Jedi or within earshot of one. Clearly they are not worried about giving a wrong image of the Order, so it’s safe to assume they’re not alone in their views. So yeah, calling your Master a father/brother - and probably a mother/sister? Not taboo.

2) Having blood ties within the Order = perfectly okay

The Unknown, TCW s6e1 Tiplar and Tiplee

Wookieepedia Stass Allie and Adi Gallia

These four women are Masters, not Knights. It means they have proven themselves to their peers - they’re not under scrutiny for potentially being “attached.” Adi and Stass both served on the Council, indicating the rest of the Council is fine with people having blood connections with other Jedi. If you look up the origin of Stass’ character, you’ll find it was Lucas himself who made her Adi’s cousin.

Tiplar and Tiplee call each other “sister” in public, they are co-generals and they wear matching outfits (same cut, but the colors are inverted). Tiplee openly displays grief and affection for her sister, in front of Jedi (Anakin) and non-Jedi alike (the troops). Again, no taboo here.

(Edit: Depa Billaba, Mace Windu’s padawan and Caleb/Kanan’s Master also had a sister in the Order, Sar Labooda. She died on Geonosis and her parentage to Depa is such an obscure piece of trivia that no material in the Legends EU or the Disney EU ever made use of it, but still. Depa served on the Council several times and both Depa and Sar were Masters, so the point stands.)

3) Acknowledging blood ties to non-Jedi = perfectly okay

Kidnapped, TCW s4e11 Ahsoka to the Jedi Council, about the people of Kiros

RotJ Obi-Wan to Luke, about Leia

Ahsoka claims a connection to the people of Kiros in front of the whole Council, (she’s from Shili btw - she’s thus claiming blood ties as a Togruta, not geographical ties) and nobody reacts in any way to her outburst - no censure, no disapproving looks, nothing. Identifying with your biological people is fine.

Obi-Wan goes a step further with this and praises Luke for caring about his sister. He is very clear about why Luke shouldn’t acknowledge the connection: their sibling bond is a good thing, but it’ll be used against them. You can’t see it in the screenshots, but Luke actually nods twice in this scene: once when Obi-Wan tells him to bury his feelings, and once when Obi-Wan explains why. Luke agrees that he shouldn’t show his feelings for Leia - so this isn’t a case of a Master forcefully repressing his student’s emotional life.

4) A broader view

a) Obi-Wan and Anakin RotS Obi-Wan to Yoda, about Anakin

RotS Obi-Wan and Anakin

Essays have been written on these two, so I’ll stick to this: when Obi-Wan tells Yoda he cannot kill Anakin because of the bond between them, Yoda does not condemn him. He does not say something along the lines of “suck it up, attachment is forbidden and you should have known better.”

He says instead “he isn’t your brother anymore. The man you love as part of your family is gone. It’s not your brother you’ll be killing.” That’s very, very, very different. Yoda acknowledges and accepts the connection between Obi-Wan and Anakin, but he cannot let it stop them from doing their duty to the Galaxy. (As Aayla said in Jedi Crash, you can’t lose thousands of lives for the sake of one.)

b) According to the Order itself The Gathering, TCW s5e6 Narrator to the audience, about the Order

Narration guy is rarely entirely objective, so you can take it with a grain of salt. Still, Ahsoka and Plo’s relationship is generally accepted as the more overtly familial one of the show, and that’s what’s illustrating narration guy’s claim here. Seems legit.

c) Outsider POV The Citadel, TCW s3e18 Osi Sobeck to his droids, about the Order

Osi Sobeck is a complete psycho and an enemy of the Jedi, so make of that what you will.

5) BONUS CONTENT (not LucasFilms)

Darth Vader (2017) Kirak Infil’a to Darth Vader, about the Order

Darth Vader (2017) Jocasta Nu to the Grand Inquisitor, about the Order

RotS novelization, Matthew Stover Dooku to Palpatine, about Obi-Wan

(Please note that I added those last bits because they fit in well, not because I see the old EU or the Disney EU as basis for characterization. For example, I’m not touching Dooku’s convoluted Disney backstory with a twenty-parsec pole.)

tldr: The Jedi Order is portrayed in canon material as pretty chill with traditional family structures among its own members. The Jedi have nothing against brotherly/sisterly bonds and they acknowledge that Masters are very much like parents. Using the complicated issue that is Anakin’s relationship with his own mother as the measure for our understanding of Jedi views on family is unfair and ignores tons of what Lucas (and later Filoni) showed on screen.

little random facts with zari & the shatterpoint lineage in my star wars fix-it au

to start this off: zariza is anakin’s little sister – half-sister, technically, but rarely does anyone acknowledge the ‘half’ part

also i’m making this bc idk when i’m actually going to write this out as an actual story so y’all are getting this bullet point style for now

moving on! more background stuff: she isn’t in mos espa with anakin & shmi bc watto’s a dick who sold her when she was 3 or 4 with no warning whatsoever

but then she gets freed & depa billaba is envolved somehow (and maybe quinlan vos. i’m still figuring things out lmao) & they eventually go back to the jedi temple. this happens uhhh 3 or 4-ish months after TPM

anakin who lowkey previously resented every single council member bc they didn’t want him to join immediately loves depa for this and his 10 year old big bro brain is like “well i love you now” for saving his little sister

zari obviously adores depa as well

depa adores them back bc they’re adorable

mace “the skywalkers give me headaches” windu has a vague sense of foreboding bc of this and he doesn’t know why. it’s not bad, per se, but still

so rlly in the early years he doesn’t interact with neither zariza nor anakin a lot tbh but i mean after the kinda-murderous-droid-and-flesh-eating-plant incident they can’t fault him for doing so

only the high council members, obi-wan, my oc jedi master rheba, & the skysibs know what happened; everyone else only hears apparent rumors that are mostly wrong (but none of them know that)

when zari is having Bad Days as an initiate & nothing her crèchemates & master do helps, she finds depa and she braids zari’s hair to help her relax

depa is the reason zariza calls mace ‘window’

when he finally figures that out he isn’t surprised in the slightest

zari also has a connection to living things (v strong in the living force) but mostly plants

after catching each other in the temple’s kitchens that one night anakin was sick, mace keeps a closer eye on zariza & by proxi anakin

somehow it becomes a reoccurring thing over the years until she’s a padawan

speaking of, when zariza becomes rheba toome’s padawan it isn’t a surprise considering the togruta woman was dubbed as a ‘skywalker wrangler’

he simultaneously feels relieved and disappointed

the only one who notices this is yoda (& ok depa too)

and then when zariza and rheba go on a mission when she’s 14, things go Very Very Wrong Extremely Quickly and zari gets enslaved again and rheba dies trying to save her

fast forward through traumatic experiences and zariza gets back literally the day the clone wars starts

now she needs another master (after, y’know, debating on whether or not she actually wants to come back as a jedi padawan at the temple)

mace “skywalkers give me headaches but somehow along the way i’ve gone soft for the youngest one” windu eventually fills in that spot

anakin officially decided that, ok, maybe mace windu isn’t so bad

the Bad Day = hair braiding with depa changes to Bad Day = hair braiding with mace bc of the war

he’s mediocre at it but zari doesn’t mind. he’s not as bad as he could be at it bc he used to braid depa’s hair too

also she climbs through secret hallways, vents, etc at the temple (and in time, the vents in the venatorships). always has. it’s where she disappears to most of the time if she’s not somewhere deep within the room of a thousand fountains

one such secret passage leads to the high council’s room and when she exits the hidden door mace & depa are in the middle of the room talking about a meeting that just ended and the three stare at each other for a solid 5 seconds before zari just. backs up back into the secret passage way.

that happens during her padawan-ship under rheba but she’s been mapping the secret passage ways, the basement hallways, vents, even the fucking attic, ever since she was 7

the only other person who knows this is her best friend elvira who’s plo koon’s padawan bc i said so and also bc he deserves one

and then ezra years down the line. zari enables him in everything and caleb is Not Pleased

“get ur own padawan! ezra is my kid”

“hm no, i don’t think i will”

anakin, overhearing caleb ranting to mace and depa, master of sniffing out little sister antics thanks to zari and ahsoka: “you realize reacting like this just fuels her actions, right?”

caleb: “….well i do now”

anyway anakin tries to get zariza to give him the maps of the passages & all bc he wants to feel included but zariza is a little shit and lives for annoying her big brother so she refuses every single time

r2-d2 knows tho but just for emergencies

when anakin figures this out he tries to get it out of r2 but r2 shocks him instead

“you turned my droid against me!”

“…technically isn’t he padmé’s droid?”

“THATS BESIDES THE POINT-“

bc anakin’s a bad influence zari has known A Lot of huttese cuss words since she joined the order & accidentally teaches an 11 year old caleb dume three huttese cuss words within an hour when depa & mace’s battalions team up during the war

the adults aren’t pleased

zari and caleb are awkward with each other for 3 whole minutes the first time they meet & then they get along like a house on fire

ponds and grey try to keep an eye on them when their battalions team up for that exact reason but somehow they always lose sight of them within 30 minutes

zari thinks of caleb as a little brother

with that said the jedi are found family and you can pry that headcanon from my cold dead hands

she 1000% embarrasses him when she first meets hera

and that’s all for now or else this’ll get way too long

I had so many ideas on what to write about today but I was scrolling through the Obi-Wan tag during my break and I came across a huge post that had been baffled and a bit crazed. It was labeled about forgiveness and mercy and such but it was like a huge insanely interpreted post about the Jedi Order and some of the characters. Of course I wasn't about to start any sort of argument (and wow was the post long) but I just had to write something, at least, in my own post, unconnected with theirs. I guess this is a reaction and buckle up cause it seems like this is going to be a long one. I have a lot to say and I'm not gonna stop being all anxious about it until I do but uh....

I'm sorry, did we watch the same movies?

They go through a lot of movies and completely do a opposite take on the Jedi; how they are "unattached" (I say this because there are so many misconceptions about the word) and celibate (which we know isn't actually true) and how Anakin becomes living proof why this attitude is wrong.

First of all, it's not an attitude; it is a way of life. One that has worked for thousands of people over millennia. Second; their point WAS proven. Anakin turned to the dark side and became a sith. He committed genocide after genocide (the Jedi, Mandalore, Alderaan, Lasan etc.) and in the end, he only turned back because of his son. Which, may seem good on the surface, but it only goes to show how no other children or people that he murdered actually mattered, it was only his blood child that did. But that's not where I'm going. You don't actually see him regret doing the countless things he has done (probably because he dies) and he only does this because of his blood son. It, for me, gives the impression that blood means everything.

Anyways, there is quite a bit of talk about Obi-Wan and honestly? It is all not good. I'm not blind to Obi-Wan's faults but in general? He is a really good person; he tries so hard and goes through so much and is ugh, always trying. Obi-Wan shows no understanding? What? What? Did we watch the same movie? I mean it has been a while since I have watched Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (they hurt my heart because ugh) but that is NOT what I remember. I remember Obi-Wan teasing Anakin gently to get his mind off of his anxieties when they were going to see Padme again. I remember Obi-Wan saying "dude don't be a horny teenager" (not in those words obviously, but that was essentially the message). I remember him literally parenting and teaching him - like he's supposed to do. I remember him trusting Anakin to do the right thing and to protect the Senator alone, by himself. I remember Anakin saying he's been having dreams - not visions or anything and nothing specific, just about his mom - and Obi-Wan going "it's alright dude, those pass in time". I mean everyone has DREAMS, that's not beholden to force-sensitives. My dreams sure as heck don't mean anything. Just cause he is a Jedi and COULD have visions, does not mean they are. And he didn't tell Obi-Wan they were visions, he literally says dreams.

Anakin is not stronger than Obi-Wan; I mean, really? Sure, more powerful? I guess? But let's go back. Who beats who on Mustafar? Obi-Wan. Who does NOT murder a bunch of children and turn to the dark side? Obi-Wan. Literally, sure, he's more "powerful" with the Force, because I guess that is the whole point but he's not stronger or wiser than Obi-Wan because as Captain Rex said "experience outranks everything" and man, does Obi-Wan have a lot of that.

Let's take a break and go to Shmi. They claim that her death is a dark page in the Jedi's book. I mean, w-what? How can you possibly blame the Jedi for Shmi's death? For not freeing her? Did Qui-Gon even tell the Council that Anakin was a slave? I don't remember, honestly. But still, she ended up freed and married to a man she fell in love with. And if I remember correctly, someone was sent (by Padme maybe? to free her but she was already gone to the Lars' by that point).

Okay, I know it sounds like I am reacting to a post and well I am I suppose. But like, this post is literally blaming the Jedi for Shmi's death and how they did not offer Anakin compassion. And then just to say that it is bothersome how Anakin was solely blamed. Uh, because he was a the perpetrator! How can you possibly justify the MURDER of children. Even though it not the Jedi way, I could understand, sort of, if he went after the people that hurt his mother specifically; probably some of the men/warriors/adults. But the babies? The children? You can literally not justify that. And to blame the Jedi Order and Obi-Wan for not "taking his nightmares seriously?" Are you serious? Anakin mentioned the dream (DREAM) once in passing, there is no indication that he said that she was in danger or that this was a vision. And visions are known to be notoriously unreliable! Not to mention, the Council is responsible for the Jedi as a whole - that is thousands of people.

Alright, now to the war.

There was a claim that throughout the war, the Jedi became more and more aloof, intolerant and unforgiving and determined to win despite the suffering of the people.

What. The. Krutack.

I will include the Clone Wars series, since it was directly referenced in response. Once again, did we watch the same show? Because I'm pretty sure that virtually the whole point of the show, aside from showing us horrible things the CIS did and the individuality of the clones, was the compassion and kindness of the Jedi. How they fought to protect as many people as they could. They were dying alongside the clones. Does anyone remember how kind and caring the Jedi were when they came across civilians. Do you remember how Obi-Wan literally carried and protected with his own body the little Twielek girl, Numa, on Ryloth? Does anyone remember how many NON-Republic planets they helped? I remember them helping even CIS senators and planets that had no ties to the Republic. They helped Mandalore even when they were not part of the Republic. The vast majority of Jedi are shown protecting not only citizens but the clones as well. They are on the front lines - not hidden behind a desk (although some are and that is necessary - tactics and strategy people) and trying to save as many lives as they can, even if it costs them. They inspire creativity and individuality in the clones - this is literally a thing. I could go on and on and on.

Okay, on to Revenge of the Sith - the sadness that will probably haunt my heart forever. We will start with Dooku; specifically when Palpatine tells Anakin to kill him and that he deserves it; it is revenge for cutting off his and whatever. And this, this, post asks if this is an act of mercy for the guy kneeling in front of him (and tells him Obi-Wan later denies him) and like, what? How in the world is that mercy? He murders a defenseless man. Sure, he is the enemy and he is a criminal but he is supposed to stand trial (not to mention all the intelligence Dooku could possible give to help win the war) which is incredibly ironic, considering later, Anakin screams at Mace Windu telling him Palpatine should stand trial (even though he is much more dangerous and more of a threat than Dooku). This is not mercy. This is a handless, defenseless (although evil) man who Anakin does actually kill. It is not mercy.

Anakin has dreams about Padme; similar to his mother. You would think he would have learned his lesson and confided in someone by telling them what was actually happening. Anakin once again, DOES NOT give Yoda any specifics, just that he fears someone he is close to will die. It is claimed that he is lacking empathy and compassion to Anakin's dilemma. WHAT DILEMMA? Anakin won't tell anyone anything that could actually help. What Yoda says is true; like "dude, people die and you have to move on from that. You cannot stop death and you cannot let this fear control you. You have to let go" which is a completely reasonable thing; I mean, hello - grief counseling anyone? Yoda probably thought he was talking about Obi-Wan - who was off on a very dangerous mission against a cyborg that had killed many Jedi and padawans; this seems like a very normal fear. Whether or not Yoda says this in the right way is not really relevant; Anakin knows that he has to let go of what he fears to lose because eventually, no matter what, he will lose it. NOTHING is permanent. Now if Anakin had specified he was having what he thought were visions and the actual person in them, I'm sure Yoda would have said things differently and probably helped him.

(Also, did Padme get any real health care or like??? Was it too much of a secret???)

(The genocide of the people in the Temple is conveniently glossed through with bare mention)

and then Mustafar. Contrary to Padme (apparently) Obi-Wan shows no clemency. ANAKIN MURDERED THE ELDERLY, THE SICK/INJURED AND BABIES in the temple. Not warriors, not even full grown men and women (some would be full grown but all the able bodied were probably out in the war trying to defend the universe). He should NOT be granted clemency. Anyone else would probably have been executed for this direct horrifying act. But they seem to gloss over how Obi-Wan is always on the defensive, not really because Anakin is more overpowering (And Obi-Wan does use a defensive style, Soresu) but because he is trying to give Anakin time to chill out and come to his senses. That is literally how the choreography was designed.

And Obi-Wan's last words were? Harsh? What? If I remember correctly, Obi-Wan says something like "You were supposed to destroy the Sith not join them" and when Anakin screams he hates Obi-Wan, the return is "you were my brother, Anakin, I loved you."

That is heart-breaking and sad, not harsh. How can you look at Obi-Wan's face in this scene and call that harsh? How can your heart not break for him?!

Say what you will about Obi-Wan leaving Anakin without "finishing him off". Whether or not this is a mercy, whatever. First, we needed a reason for Vader to be in the suit. Second, Anakin was unarmed; Obi-Wan doesn't go around killing unarmed enemies, much less loved ones. (Hello, the slaver from the series, anyone? He didn't kill him; it is against his beliefs. Rex killed him). Can you even imagine how Obi-Wan was feeling? How could he possibly kill his brother? Like, I have so many feelings and not enough words ahdkjgkjgjkf. Anakin does suffer and Obi-Wan has no reason to believe that Anakin would survive his injuries. Furthermore, if I remember correctly, Palpatine ship was coming? Also, Obi-Wan had to get to Padme - she was injured and more of a priority. Because she is someone he can try to save - Anakin is long gone - in more ways than one.

Although it claimed that they are not denying the terrible things Anakin has done; that is almost kind of what they are doing. They are literally putting Anakin's choices and agency to the fault of the Jedi - not just individuals but the culture and people. It is literally gone on to say that if he had left with his wife, the worst could have been avoided. What was the worst?

Oh, a mass murderer got his legs cut off and accidently burned alive. Uhm, okay, that sucks but you do realize he committed genocide of his entire family right? And he choked his wife into unconsciousness.

I can't even with humans.

There is not even a note to Palpatine and how he manipulated Anakin for years. No blame at all on the man we need to blame the most - they put all the blame on the Jedi which just. Blows my mind.

The Clone Wars proved there was no right choice for the Jedi - they were doomed to fall. Not because of anything they did - they did everything they could - but because of Palpatine's plans and schemes. I will never, ever agree that the Jedi failed because of themselves. I do not think that the "institution" was destined to fall ( that "institution" lasted for longer than the Republic). The Jedi were trying so hard - they were kind and good and compassionate and trying so hard for peace and saving as many lives as they could. The Sith were evil. The CIS was evil. The Senate was corrupt. And the Jedi were trying.

There is so much Jedi-blaming for Anakin's attitude, disposition and choices it is literally driving me insane. Why did I do this to myself?

Things delve into a New Hope and immediately there is bashing of the jedi; where Obi-Wan cuts some guy's arm off at a Cantina and Obi- Wan "lying" that Vader killed Anakin. Which, honestly, I could see that being true. Him being Anakin's murderer, at least. Vader may have Anakin's body but even he claims that he killed Anakin Skywalker. Anakin, at least, how he thought he was, was loyal and passionate and loving - or at least he tried to be. Vader is literally none of these things; there is very little of "Anakin" in Vader. And at first glance, it may seem that Obi-Wan and Yoda are setting Luke up to kill "his father" but honestly, I see it more as preparing him to fight Vader and kill him, if necessary. It's a horrible thing, but they do not outright say anything. And honestly, they were right. Vader is willing to kill Luke - he cuts off his hand and fights him. Okay, I have so much to say about this but that is for another time; i will digress about this particular point (of lying and such)

Luke, apparently, decides to forgive Vader and show him mercy (which is claimed the Jedi and Obi-Wan NEVER did for Anakin, no matter what he did for them which is such BS I'm virtually crying rn)

There is a lengthy talk about Luke trying to rebuild the Jedi culture and how it crushed him, his contrast with Obi-Wan's attitude and shame(?) and how trying to be a Jedi has caused him to fail. Because apparently Luke is the only one who apologized and that makes him different I guess? (How many times has Obi-Wan apologized and thought things were his fault even though they weren't?)

I won't get into the Sequel Trilogy because honestly, it does very little to interest me. I am mostly a Prequel- era person mostly because I love Obi-Wan and the strength and compassion of his character. Finn seemed really interesting to me and man I thought having a female Jedi character would be really great - we had some fantastic female Jedi such as Ahsoka, Shaak Tii, Depa Billaba and so many more - but they were rarely the focus and I thought it would be fun. But, I was a bit disappointed because killing off Han Solo the way they did? Eh. Didn't care for it. I was also in the era of Mara Jade, Jacen and Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo and Ben Skywalker (Luke's son) so perhaps I was a little bias. I didn't really understand why Leia and Han would name their child after someone that they didn't really know (although I do have a headcanon concerning Leia and Obi-Wan which I find hilarious that I love).

I didn't particularly care for the Sequel Trilogy. They made it a Skywalker show and they did an emphasis on romantic love and from what I recall from what I have watched, the majority of the characters weren't nearly as interesting or compelling to me. And then bringing Palpatine back, sighs. Why does it always come back to him? That is just exhausting.

I'm not hating on the Sequels; everyone is allowed to like things or whatever. I just didn't; they focused so much on Rey and Kylo Ren (who I actually have a bit of an opinion on but I won't right now) instead of the more intriguing characters. I would have been much more interested in Finn as a Jedi. To overcome what he has been through as a stormtrooper and becoming a Jedi would be a really interesting story. I didn't care for how they handled Luke. And I didn't like how Rey apparently became a master so fast without any real training? Even Anakin, the Chosen One, the most powerful force-wielder, had ten years of training under Obi-Wan and the Jedi. That stuff doesn't just...come; you learn it.

I wrote more about the Sequel Trilogy than I care too. I suppose this is a rather reaction post but wow; I felt like me and this person had watched two separate movie trilogy/shows. It boggles my mind on how people can get the opposite of something that was so clearly shown. I hope I didn't upset anyone too bad. I'm not hear to start a fight, just to get out some feelings.

I wrote this all instead of homework that I desperately need to do. Sighs.

I need to go through my likes and read some good Jedi content cause man, that, that was hard.

han is straight up with everything. literally. mans is not afraid to tell the truth, no matter the situation

but one thing he’s failed to be straight up about is his feelings for you

for once, he can’t seem to find the right words to express how he feels

so instead of just telling you he does a bunch of sweet gestures

ex.) giving you his jacket when it looks like you’re cold, even in the slightest, holding you tightly when the nightmares came to get you while everyone else was asleep, lingering touches (leaving his hand on the small of your back for as long as he could, hugs that last a second longer than normal)

he likes to express his feelings through physical touch. he likes giving hugs

we can collectively agree that obi-wan is the sweetest person on earth (also smooth as fuck)

he’s a stickler for rules but as you grew closer together he found himself falling, and falling FAST

he’d never admit it to anakin because he’s being teased enough by him as it is

“kriff, you’re stubborn”

anakin, that little shit, does everything in his power to try and get you two together. he’ll ‘accidentally’ run into you so that you’d fall into obi’s arms, make sure the only empty seat at council meetings and any other place was next to him, made sure you stuck together on missions, and whatnot

so when neither of you knew about your feelings for the other even after all he did he was genuinely confused and disappointed bc he put sO much effort—

you returned from a meeting with mace windu & yoda to retire for the night and found a note pasted on your door

“meet me at the gardens in ten minutes —OWK”

your nose scrunched in confusion but you set the paper down and slid your cloak back on regardless, and headed back out

obi wan was standing by the fountains with his arms crossed

“you sent me a note? what did you want...?”

“y/n, i thought we agreed to meet because you sent me a note saying to meet here at 11 sharp.”

“i didn’t send that note.” “i didn’t send yours, either.”

“then who did—” then it hit the two of you at the same time. “anakin.” “no wonder. the handwriting didn’t look like yours, you write in cursive only.”

obi just shrugged, “might as well make the best of this. he did get us out of yet another council meeting.” “touche.”

you didn’t know what to say bc all the words were stuck in your throat

which was weird bc the two of you ALWAYS had something to say to each other when you met up

he reached up to brush your hair away from your face and you froze

“this was stuck in your hair,” he explained as he showed you a milky-white blossom sitting in his palm “oh! thank you”

you fell into a comfortable silence as you walked around the place

and then he’s like “oh fuck i’m just going to go for it”

“y/n, your hand looks quite heavy. let me hold it for you” “w-what?...oh.”

you nod and he takes your hand, and you pray that he can’t hear how fast your heart is beating (but he’s too busy praying for the same to notice LMAO)

anakin doesn’t need for either of you to tell him whether the plan worked or not bc he can tell by the looks on your faces

he’s not afraid to express his feelings bc he feels very comfortable around you and all

so if something’s wrong he’ll either tell you straight up or you’ll figure it out yourself if he doesn’t

he’s a very affectionate person—you understand that it’s because after leaving to pursue his training, he was lacking all the love and attention that he used to get as a child, so he made up for all that by pouring all that love onto you

anakin grew up knowing a mother’s love, so naturally, he’s very caring and gentle around you. he hugs you and holds you close every change he gets, brushes your hair away from your face, etc

so if he just comes up behind you and hugs you, or places a hand on the small of your back while you’re walking, you try not to think too much about it bc it’s what he normally does

you like to tease him about this sometimes bc the seemingly cold-hearted & ruthless warrior is a complete softie behind closed doors : ‘)

it’s no secret to others that you’re both very...close with one another

but nobody even tries questioning it bc 1) you’ve been like this for ages and 2) you got your shit done lmao

but you try and keep the forehead kisses and snuggles more lowkey

you were sneaking over to anakin’s room to finish bingeing that holodrama you’d started together last week and nearly got caught by mace windu

“what took you so long?”

“master windu almost saw me on the way over here. move over.” you nudged anakin in the side and crawled into bed next to him, “you didn’t start without me, right?” “of course not!”

you yawned and stretched your arms in the air. “you know, if we get caught, obi-wan—” “—is going to kill us. i know.”

“he told us to wait...”

“it’s not like he’s going to find out we’re watching without him, is he?” he smirked. you laughed and lightly smacked his shoulder

you’re probably an hour or so in when the two of you fall into silence

asides from what you’re watching, it’s just yours and his breathing that you can hear

you glanced over and watched the light from the holo shining in his eyes, and the distant light of the moon reflecting off his wavy hair and your heart stops

oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no

you snap yourself out of your trance and get back to what you were doing

anakin starts drifting off slowly but steadily

“hey. your hand looks heavy. let me hold it for you,” he mumbled

you felt your face heat up, but nodded. “...okay?”

“your hands are so cold.” his nose crinkled slightly as he tightened his grip on your hand. “but that’s okay. i’ll warm them up for you.”

you smiled and let your head fall against his shoulder, and stayed like that for the rest of the night

TT SW Fic #2.1

The Trio gets sent back to the CW universe. When this happens affects what happens from there. But, and here's the Big Thing: the three are separated from each other.

They get sent back just after ANH

Luke is currently still new to the whole "rebellion against the tyrannical empire" thing. Han has decided to stay, but not really, because he's been paid, but also he has to or the kid will get himself killed, but then he's leaving, but also not bec- And Leia is busy proving that she is as good a leader in politics as she is in war.

So when they get sent back in time, Luke is at full "Aw Shucks" with a little "Why is everyone staring at me?" thrown in. He wakes up in the middle of an unknown place, likely one that either was just battling or is currently a battlefield. He's very Shook at the sight of a Jedi general fighting alongside several clone troopers against B-style droids.

Leia ends up found by a very strange and very clumsy Gungan. He says he's a representative in the Republic. Leia puts two and two together. Then she calmly begins figuring out the best way to take down Palpatine without raising suspicions. It helps that anyone who sees her with this Gungan seems to assume she has good intentions by virtue of her tolerating him. And he is rather endearing in his amusing clumsy way.

Han wakes up next to Mace Windu in a prison cell. The Jedi has been captured. Han does not know that he's back in time. All he knows is that the Jedi says he magically appeared in the cell. He isn't chained. He helps the escape, wondering how he can get back to his friends and his girl, and Leia, too. Windu is wondering what the Force is up to, besides coming up with a strange way to get him out of prison.

Luke gets fully discovered by troopers, who he tries to befriend and succeeds as much as a random person with a lightsaber can when there was a battle not even ten minutes ago. Ahsoka, Anakin, and Obi-Wan are brought to meet Luke. They assume he's a rogue Jedi. He does not dispute this, instead too preoccupied by the fact that he doesn't know much about the past and also Leia is gonna kill him.

Leia meets Senator Amidala. She begins her important work while aided by the one her parents always told her about.

Han figures out he's in the past. He does have a brief moment where he internally panics that he just freed an Imperial officer. Then he sees the lightsaber and the not-the-kid attached and finally puts it together. Windu offers to take him back to Coruscant, and expresses that the Council will want to meet him. Han decides that if there's Jedi, the kid'll find him eventually, so he might as well go.

Luke manages to keep the future a secret, but he also tells a lot of stuff that makes everyone take a step back. Like how he lost his entire squadron a short while back, not to mention his mentor, his family, his home, and now he doesn't know where his friends are. Granted, this is given over the course of at least a day, and he does get questions about the whole "fighter squadron" part, but still.

He also scrunches his nose at all the "weird" rules of the Jedi. Anakin mentions the no attachment rule and Luke gives him such a weird look that they manage to drag Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and three different clones into a philosophical debate that ends in "so long as your fear doesn't overwhelm you, attachment is okay." Basically just everything in moderation.

Leia manages to get access to the inhibitor chips. She also takes down several plots to give Palpatine more power. She befriends many senators she'd only heard about, or ones who would one day be as helpful as they could in an Imperial senate. She smirks when she hears about the rogue Jedi who keeps reprogramming droids to have free will, and getting various Separatists to desert through the power of ~friendship~ and ~sunshine~.

Han does not accept Sage Jedi Words. Not without much sass and argument. Every time Windu tries to say something about "A Jedi does not do x" or "Y is the way to z" Han responds with his own experiences. Using attachment as an example again, Han tells Windu that it's stupid.

In a war, attachment is how you remain sane. Yeah, it can make you worry and fearful because there's a kriffin' war going on, but if you learn that fear and worry are natural, learn that they're just like when you're excited or angry, then you learn to live with it. You learn to just take a deep breath and keep going. Also, if you don't properly teach emotional control, you end up with repressed adults who will break at the worst possible moments. This is all said in the most casual way possible, with lots of salt and sass, but still said.

Luke, being peak Sunshine Farmer from Two-Sun Tatooine, manages to give Ventress a headache from his bright, unshielded Force presence. He befriends ALL THE CLONES, and also that Separatist, and those droids over there, and that one feral loth cat, and also that bear. By the time they get to Coruscant, most of the army is willing to die for Luke, who would rather die than let that happen.

Upon arriving on Coruscanat, Anakin decides that he needs to save Luke from a meeting with the Council. He takes the kid to the Senate building, so he can meet Padme's new friend and Anakin can also 'say hello'. Luke enters the building with his father-who-doesn't-know-he's-a-father and goes to meet what he assumes is his mother because Anakin talks about her just like Leia talks about Han. They make it to Senator Amidala's office.

Anakin and Padme suddenly lose their hearing. Luke squeals, legitimately squeals, and rushes to hug Leia. She's not squealing, but she is ecstatic to see her friend. They start babbling to each other, and it sounds very much like a code to the other occupants of the room, but it's just because they're talking about "the Empire" and "Rogue One" and "Vader" and "Death Star". A lot of what they say makes no sense outside of context.

Luke: It's so weird to be away from the Empire but it doesn't feel that way. I nearly thought the clones were stormtroopers!

Leia: I know! And here, the Senate can actually do things, even if it's just as corrupt. But Palpatine's the Chancellor.

Anakin, about to interrupt to ask what that's supposed to mean: Wait just a minute, what's so bad about-

Luke, ignoring his father: At least he can't send Vader after us!

Leia: Yeah, and no Death Star to blow us all up.

Luke: And there's Jedi! They even have a temple! It's so cool!

Leia: You could actually be a real Jedi!

Etc. They talk for awhile.

Han makes it to Coruscant, and actually gets to meet one of his childhood heroes, Obi-Wan "The Negotiator" Kenobi. Who looks alarmingly like- Oh, kriff. Ben. The old spice-using hermit was his childhood idol. Kriff it all.

Ben tells him that the kid was here, but got dragged off by Han's other hero, Anakin "The Hero Without Fear" Skywalker- kriff, that's the kid's dad. He'll have to make a good impression. But apparently the Skywalkers took a trip to visit a senator. Leia's probably there. She was a senator until the whole Death-Star-and-Rebellion stuff.

Ben goes to comm them. Han can hear Luke and Leia in the background. Han snatches the communicator and starts yelling.

Han: WHAT THE KRIFF DO YOU TWO THINK YOU'RE DOING‽ DO YOU WISH YOU'D NEVER BEEN BORN‽ CUZ THAT'S WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN! *insert rant that makes both complete and no sense*

Han: *breathing heavily into the comm*

Luke, a little muffled: Sorry, Han.

Leia, also a little muffled: Didn't know the nerfherder was a Mama Bantha.

Han: Oh, is that how you wanna play? Listen here, you sh-

Anakin, speaking really fast: I'll have them back at the Temple by midnight, they love you, bye!

*comm clicks off*

Ben: ... Want a drink?

Han: Kriff yeah.

Palpatine fails because 1) Leia is a horrible goose 2) Luke is Tatooine's third sun 3) Han has common sense, no filter, and a will to live.

I’ve been thinking about Qui-Gon a lot lately (through various things like creator commentary, some fic that managed to make me really adore him, fandom reactions, my eternally conflicted M&A feelings, etc.) and honestly I keep coming back to how we have so little of the character that almost anything anyone says on him is pretty much pure projection. You can say some nice things about him in TPM, but you can also say some less than flattering things about him in TPM. Like, the idea that Qui-Gon shows more compassion than Obi-Wan for calling Jar Jar a “pathetic creature”? This is the same guy who said, “The ability to speak does not make one intelligent.” and was condescending right to Jar Jar’s face. No, Qui-Gon was not kinder to him than Obi-Wan was. (And the “pathetic lifeform” thing is clearly not serious, imo. Especially considering, in The Clone Wars, it’s Obi-Wan who is shown to be the one who does things like making a special effort to avoid the attacking creatures on Ryloth.)

You know who else wasn’t kind to Jar Jar? Padme makes her disdain for him BLATANTLY clear, right to his face, on Rodia. But that never seems to comeup, either because it’s TCW or because she’s not a Jedi. It’s a thing that a lot of characters do, including on TCW. You know who is pretty damn nice to Jar Jar, though? Mace Windu. He’s obviously annoyed at some points, but he treats Jar Jar with respect and kindness, far more than Qui-Gon ever did. And Qui-Gon as the most compassionate Jedi? Again, no, because what he did to Obi-Wan in the Council Chamber wasn’t cruel, but it was really uncaring of how that would affect Obi-Wan. It was focused entirely on Anakin, like Anakin was the only person who mattered. His kindness to Anakin was very sweet! But he was kind of a dick to Obi-Wan, even if I think that Obi-Wan understood why and wasn’t that hurt by it and Qui-Gon trusted that. Then you have M&A where Qui-Gon never really talks to Obi-Wan. He thinks all these things about Obi-Wan, but never actually says them. And when Obi-Wan questions him, Qui-Gon gets real defensive and snippy. And that’s setting aside that he had a chance to actually help shape the Jedi in the ways he thought would be better and then he said no after the Jedi Council specifically asked him to be part of it because he had different opinions. That’s part of the book, that’s canon. He’s not a bad person! He cares very much. I think Obi-Wan understood why Qui-Gon did what he did. But we really don’t see much of who he is beyond the movie and M&A and neither of them ever show us Qui-Gon being particularly compassionate or caring above and beyond what you can find Obi-Wan or Yoda or Mace or any of the other Jedi doing. And, as much as this was inspired by Dave’s comments, I’m actually really :/ about his whole thing about how Anakin not having a dad was a “failing” as if nuclear families are the only kind of love that are important, as if a supportive, caring community means nothing. As if we don’t see Jedi taking care with their younglings. As if children without father figures are incomplete somehow? Like, I usually love Dave, but everything he said about TPM only works on the surface and pretty much everything he says is contradicted by the movie itself or George’s commentary–like George has specifically said if Anakin had been found by the Jedi earlier, he would have been fine, that’s not “only Qui-Gon could have kept him from falling”. I get wanting to defend the prequels and their place in the story and their connection to the themes, but I really disagree with his entire take on that movie, based on the content of the movie (Qui-Gon being a dick to Jar Jar, to Obi-Wan, etc.) and George’s commentary on the movies. Again, Qui-Gon is not a bad character, but he’s a very blank character, you can project pretty much whatever you want onto him, that’s what’s so frustrating, because there’s just not enough either way, and what little we have in canon really contradicts that whole theory. ETA: Okay, I’m going to add some George Lucas quotes to this to better show what I mean, because this was originally meant to be just an informal thing but I think it would help to be a little more serious about it: Qui-Gon Jinn commentary from The Phantom Menace: “So here we’re having Qui-Gon wanting to skip the early training and jump right to taking him on as his Padawan learner, which is controversial, and ultimately, the source of much of the problems that develop later on.” –George Lucas, The Phantom Menace commentary That… is really not what Dave said about Qui-Gon. “The fact that everything must change and that things come and go through [Anakin’s] life and that he can’t hold onto things, which is a basic Jedi philosophy that he isn’t willing to accept emotionally and the reason that is because he was raised by his mother rather than the Jedi. If he’d have been taken in his first year and started to study to be a Jedi, he wouldn’t have this particular connection as strong as it is and he’d have been trained to love people but not to become attached to them.” –George Lucas, Attack of the Clones commentary Basically, if Anakin had been found earlier, he would have been fine, he would have been trained to love people, as per George Lucas’ words. Ie, YES THE JEDI DO LOVE PEOPLE. The only time I’ve seen George talk about Anakin’s fate is when it’s specifically about Anakin’s choice in it, not outside influences making choices for him: “It’s fear of losing somebody he loves, which is the flipside of greed. Greed, in terms of the Emperor, it’s the greed for power, absolute power, over everything. With Anakin, really it’s the power to save the one he loves, but it’s basically going against the Fates and what is natural.“ –George Lucas, Revenge of the Sith commentary Because Star Wars is about choice just as much as it’s about family. And that family shouldn’t have to be a nuclear family to have a loving, supportive community. As if Plo Koon didn’t love and support Ahsoka. As if we don’t see Obi-Wan reaching out to Anakin over and over again in care, concern, and support, in the movies, in The Clone Wars, in the comics, in the novels, etc. As if we didn’t see a whole gaggle of Jedi ready to jump up and teach Ahsoka because they cared about her. As if we didn’t see Jedi after Jedi after Jedi sacrificing themselves in Order 66 to save their Padawans. Dave Filoni, you read Kanan: The Last Padawan where Depa sacrifices her life for Caleb or watch the Order 66 scene in Jedi: Fallen Order where Jaro Tapal sacrifices himself for Cal AND YOU TRY TO TELL ME JEDI DIDN’T LOVE.

I'm honestly surprised you're pro-jedi and not just, like, pro-force-user. Aside from the slavery, and general indifference, they're also arrogant and detached. The only Jedi I've seen being caring toward their clones(even the peons/privates/shinies) are Plo Koon and Windu. Anakin only cares if it's Rex and maybe one of his main teammates. Maybe. Obi-wan only seems to really care about Cody, etc. Sure they might be //nice// but there's a diff between nice and kind, right? (1/?) -Antijedanon

Pls don't take this as me being hostile or trying to fight. I actually kind of LOVE to debate stuff and I can never find anyone to do it with because everyone is too intense and keeps trying to convince me of their opinion, even when we're not talking about social justice stuff. Anyway, I personally love the clones so much that I cannot forgive the Jedi for not doing ANYTHING to help them. They could've lobbied for rights, for shore leave, they could've //tried// you know? I feel like they weren't THAT powerless. Sure with Palpatine pulling the strings, everything was harder but it's like they refused to even take a stance? They could've at least expressed disapproval. Hello there anon! Thank you for this ask! I think in general to sum up why I do like the Jedi is basically due to their core beliefs, their culture, as well as their relationship to the Force. Not only do I find them aesthetically pleasing, but i’m really obsessed with their mysticism. Getting into star wars, the Force and the Jedi were something that personally, I could really relate to. And the Jedi order and their belief and work with the Force became a bit of a comfort for me, especially when I was dealing with some hard and stressful times.

Watching the episode with the Younglings creating their sabers was really cool for me. Also, i like their family units. The fact that they are all a mix of difference species and genders makes you wonder their views on the outside world--they’re raised and reared so differently than others.

Cultural differences would mean nothing to Jedi because they grew up with people of different and stranger cultures. Humans and aliens grew up side-by-side, so discrimination really wouldn’t be an issue. Not just on a race basis, but also on a gender basis, simply because most Jedi were taken and raised in the temple.

This typically translates to respectable adults.

In general, I think the Jedi order is an order that can be good, thinks it’s good, but goes about it in a very, very bad way. In general I think they needed newer leadership and younger people on the council, as well as people with differing beliefs.

But, because of their blind belief in the Force, they’re prone to making phenomenal and harmful mistakes. They don’t question anything because they think the Force is leading them to where they need to be.

And then they’re compliant in the creation of a slave army, which should be a reasonable excuse as to why anyone should dislike them. There is literally absolutely no defense of that. You cannot defend or explain away the fact that they accepted a slave army, did little to help or advocate for them, and lead them to their deaths.

You can’t explain away how Anakin is infuriated by slavery, but turns a blind eye to his own men and his role in their slavery. Or how the Jedi are supposedly anti-slavery (it’s either them or the Republic, but the Jedi fall under the republic) yet have a slave army.

I love Plo.

Plo is my favorite Jedi and character, but he did the bare minimum. Everyone who was nice to the clones did the bare minimum, and while I enjoy talking about how as far as other Jedi goes he and Mace are pretty good, I wish they did more. Spoke out more.

Anakin was married to a senator—why didn’t he advocate for his men? Why not advocate or be there for Rex? Especially after Fives (don’t even get me started on how painful that was).

That’s why the finale with Ahsoka and Rex felt so…off? I suppose this idea that Ahsoka was a heroine and stuck her neck out for the clones was bothersome when her onscreen recklessness has caused clone lives.

Watching the clones used as cannon fodder and their lives be so ignored and underappreciated by the Jedi, except to make the Jedi look good, was infuriating. Watching Ahsoka only care about the clones to make her look better was infuriating. Watching Plo and even Yoda getting a slap on the wrist for just saying they cared was infuriating.

Like, do more!!

The relationship between the Jedi and the clones will never be a good one, unless the story is retconned and rewritten (Dave Filoni if you’re looking for a writer for ideas DM me XD). Every attempt to humanize the clones in relation to the Jedi is only made to make the Jedi look better.

But every single Jedi failed the clones. Every single one.

You’re right to dislike them for that—and even hate the Jedi. Because for a long time I grappled with this. The jedi got me into star wars, so understanding and having to accept that they are a very, incredibly flawed (and for some people, it’s more than flawed).

And this pretty much sums up my stance. I’m pro-Jedi because I think that fundamentally it’s a really good order that has it’s heart in the right place but communicates it badly, and is in need of new leadership. And due to that, i’m critical, especially when the order itself is incredibly hypocritical.

Summary: Reader is the queen of the alien planet, Roe’ Leor, a planet very rich in natural resources and starship fuel. It was previously a neutral system; however, the Republic has finally roped them in. In celebration and in honor of their alliance, the Queen has thrown a formal party to recognize this new friendship. Invitations extend to the royal family, the royal guard, royal officials as well as the staff, Republic Senators and the Jedi of course. After Ani’s met the Queen and after the dancing begins, Anakin gets jealous when he sees her dancing with another man…

A/N: I’ve been experiencing the BIGGEST writers block and lack of time to write and I’m SO sorry this took so long. I also had trouble trying to think of something that isn’t overplayed like jedi! reader and senator! reader... I’ve had this in my drafts for a week now and I apologize I haven’t published it until now... I hope it was worth the wait though :) A couple things I want to point out: 1) Roe’ Leor is a production of my imagination; it’s not a real planet in the Star War universe, 2) I imagine the handmaiden with a soft British accent, 3) you don’t really get to fill in a lot because you’re an alien and your skin color, eye color, etc. is already pre-determined, 4) the Roe’ Leor culture is like a mix of Indian and Haiwaiian (certain thinks like names and outfits) and 5) this Anakin is kind of like a mix between rots! Anakin and tcw! Anakin. I’m sorry I talk so much and enjoy! ~

I look out of my large bedroom window as my handmaiden, Lei, prepares me for the event tonight. I just love the blues and purples that color the sky when the suns set…

“I do as well, my lady.” Lei speaks up. I jump slightly at the sudden sound.

“I hadn’t realized I said that aloud…” I said, distractedly.

“Well, I’m glad you did, your majesty. The sound of your voice is always lovely to hear, no matter the scarcity.” She replies with a small smile on her face. I smile back at her. What a wonderful girl…

The thing about being Queen is I’m not allowed to speak, only under specific circumstances like negotiations. Hearing my voice should be ‘a privilege’. I think it’s nonsense; but until my request goes through Leadership, I must adhere to the rules…

Lei adjusts the pallu part of the sari and places the traditional red flower behind my ear. She spins me around to look in the full-length mirror and I smile. She always does such excellent work making sure I look presentable. I look at Lei in the mirror and whisper a ‘thank you’ in our native tongue.

“You are quite welcome, your highness.” She smiles and bows before leaving my presence.

I look in the mirror once more and really take in my appearance. The amber color of the sari and petticoat really compliments my green eyes and the vermillion of the choli, fine stitching and border look exquisite against my light orange skin. To top the whole look off, my hair is loose, free to fall in waves upon my shoulders. Luckily, it doesn’t take too much away from the golden jewelry that adorns my body; the delicate necklace hanging upon my neck and the simple, yet elegant bangles that slip towards my wrist. If there’s one thing I love about being Queen, it’s the fun I have while dressing up.

When I’m done admiring Lei’s handiwork, I straighten my back and head for the main room of the palace; where the event is being held.

Outside my door, as I expected, are two of my most trusted bodyguards – who double as my governesses – to escort me; however, what I didn’t expect was for a women from Leadership waiting for me as well. I bow politely and she bows back.

“Your grace, I’ve come before you to inform you that your request has been received and approved.” She says with a relaxed expression and a small smile.

“That’s wonderful. Thank you for bringing me this information.” I reply, beyond jovial as a smile breaks out on my face.

“It was my pleasure, your majesty. Enjoy the rest of your evening.” She bows and leaves me with my escorts.

Overjoyed that I can now speak as I please, I hug both of them.

“Alani, Kaila, I never thought I’d see the day.” I express my extreme happiness with the information I just received.

“We’re happy for you, your highness.” Alani replies with a smile on her face.

“We’re glad your request went through successfully.” Kaila says as she pats my back.

I give them another squeeze before I straighten up, dust off my sari and clear my throat.

“C’mon ladies, we have a party to attend.”

As I walk forwards, Alani and Kaila follow suit. We make a beeline for the balcony area of the staircase and wait just behind the doorway for my cue to enter. I can already hear the noise of my guests and the party started but a few minutes ago.

- 15 minutes earlier –

��Halt.” A guard in front of the palace stops us.

“Names.” She demands and she looks at her scroll.

“Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight.” I say in a nonchalant tone and flash her my invitation. She looks at me, at the invitation and at her scroll. She nods and looks at Obi-Wan.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master.” He says politely as he too shows his invitation. The guard nods and I proceed to make my way inside only to walk into her arm. I look up at her.

“Is there a problem?” I ask, eyebrow raised in hopes of getting some answers.

“You must change your attire before entering the Queen’s palace.” She responds. Before I could open my mouth to ask my question, a women that appears to be a handmaiden approaches us with clothing in hand. Then, it dawned on me.

“This would explain why we were measured last week.” Obi-Wan voiced my thoughts as he takes his suit and I take mine.

“You may change your clothing in the rooms to the left.” She states with an authoritative tone and resumes her duties as the guard; checking the next guests invitation.

Obi-Wan and I head over to a small shack.

“Doesn’t look like much.” I comment on the rough exterior of the ‘building’.

Obi-Wan chuckles, “Wait until you see inside.” I furrow my eyebrows in confusion and push the door open. My eyes widened at the sight before me. The outside is an injustice to the interior. It was magnificently structured and much larger on the inside. The small palace was completely empty except for four decently-sized ‘rooms’ in the middle of the structure.

“Never judge a book by its cover, Anakin; Leori technology isn’t anything to bat your eyes at.” He says condescendingly as he goes to change.

“Yes, master.” I reply as I walk over to the changing ‘room’. Can it even be called a room? All of the ‘walls’ are made of curtains.

I walk inside and shed the many layers of my Jedi robes along with my boots, belt and lightsaber.

“What do you know about this party, Anakin?” Obi-Wan asks from his changing ‘room’.

“The Queen of Roe’ Leor has thrown this party has an act of goodwill to celebrate the alliance between the Republic and Roe’ Leor.” I say, repeating the words of the Jedi Council from earlier that week.

I gingerly pull on the blue button-up and thin black jacket that accompanies it.

“Have you ever met her?” He asks.

“The Queen? No. I hear it’s a privilege to even hear her speak much less be in her presence.” I recall from one of the many briefings on Leori culture.

I slide on the black slacks as well as the black pointed shoes and clip my lightsaber to one of the belt loop of the pants. I walk out the same time Obi-Wan does.

I look at him and raise my eyebrow to accompany my smirk, “Don’t you clean up nicely, master.” I say in a joking manner. Obi-Wan is dressed in similar clothing, just with different colors. His button up is a light brown while his suit jacket, pants and shoes are all a darker shade of the same color; like his Jedi robes.

He rolls his eyes at my comment then makes his way out of the shack and over to the entrance. I walk behind him and we walk back over to the guard.

She looks us up and down, “Proceed.” She says after she recognizes us and deems our outfits acceptable.

We walk inside and look around. Music similar to what was playing in Hondo’s bar plays softly in the background as the people make conversation. I notice that some members of the Jedi Council, such as Mace Windu and Plo Koon have already arrived and have switched their usual attire for suits. The majority of the people in attendance are Leori; however I do spot the occasional Senator and Jedi.

“Did you know that Roe’ Leor is predominantly female and that’s why they have a Queen instead of a King?” Obi-Wan pipes up from beside me as he examines the room and takes a bite of food from his plate.

“I did not…” I trail off and instead of looking at their species, I look at their gender and notice he’s right. The majority of the Leori are women. The men only seem to be caterers and the occasional official.

A horn of some sort is blown from the balcony of the staircase. The attendees quiet down and move their attention to a small girl, no more than the age of a youngling.

“Please welcome her royal highness, Queen (L/N).” She says in a high-pitched voice as ‘Queen (L/N)’ emerges from the doorway on the left. She looks…magnificent. She’s younger than I expected her to be.

The yellow and red of her sari compliments her skin well. She strolls over to the balcony and stands between her two bodyguards elegantly. Applause erupts from the crowd. Both guards hold a hand out and the applause ceases.

“Good evening, people of Roe’ Leor and representatives of the Republic. As you all know, I’ve thrown this party to celebrate our newfound friendship with the Republic. I hope you enjoy your evening as well as make friends with our new partners.” She finishes and descends down the stairs. Thunderous applause erupts once more from the people in attendance.

“I thought the Queen wasn’t allowed to speak?” I ask Obi-Wan with confusion, never taking my eyes off of her.

“Must have been a recent change in their rules…” Obi-Wan mused, stroking his beard.

“Oh.” I respond simply as I take notice that the bodyguard’s leave Queen (L/N)’s side as she greets some politicians. She talks with them for a short amount of time before she scans the room and her eyes on land on me.

I bow as I finish my conversation with Senator Poli and Representative Jeeloy. I’ve made it my goal to introduce myself to every Republic attendee as to become familiar with one another and explain the new rule put into place by Leadership. I look around the large space and my eyes land on a rather handsome young man who already appears to be staring in my direction. I suppose I’ve found my next conversation.

I walk over to him and his eyes never leave me. A regular man would have already looked away in fear or insecurity; an interesting specimen indeed…

“Good evening gentlemen.” I say as I bow before the young man and his slightly older companion.

Now that I’m within a closer proximity, the young man is quite attractive for a Jedi. He has dirty blonde hair that falls in waves at his shoulders. His eyes are a blue so magnificent, I’ve only ever seen it in the majestic waves of our ocean. His skin is a flawless tan color and his lips look as plush as a pillow.

“My name is Anakin Skywalker, but you can call me Anakin, your highness.” The young man, Anakin, says as he bows. He grabs my hand and places a chaste kiss upon it. I can already feel my heart racing at his actions. He releases my hand, but he never takes his striking blue eyes off of me.

“Your majesty, Obi-Wan Kenobi.” The older man, Obi-Wan, also bows.

“May I say, both of your names are quite unique?” I comment on the names they’ve given me.

“Thank you, my lady. May I ask yours?” Anakin questions me.

“(Y/N) (L/N)…”

“(Y/N)…” He whispers under his breath.

“…but no one every addresses me as such as it is customary to address me as ‘Queen (L/N)’ or other terms of respect including ‘your grace’, ‘your highness’, ‘your majesty’, ‘my lady’ and so forth...” I finish, matter-of-factly.

“Of course, my lady.” Anakin says as the mischievousness of a thousand younglings cross his eyes.

“How are you enjoying the party so far, Mr. Kenobi?” I ask, shifting my attention to his friend as the look he’s giving me makes my heart beat a little too fast for my taste.

“Please, Obi-Wan, your majesty. We are partners, not strangers.” He corrects me.

I nod in return, “Of course, Obi-Wan.” He continues.

“I must say, you’ve thrown a lovely party.” He comments as he scans the crowd.

“Thank you; do you like the food?” I ask, looking at both Anakin and Obi-Wan this time, “I heard many of these foods are popular on Coruscant, the Republic capital...”

“The food is excellent, your grace. Nothing to worry about.” He says reassuringly with a small smile.

“Wonderful.” I reply, returning his smile. “Before I forget, if you’ve been briefed on our culture, you’ll know I’m not normally permitted to speak; however, a change in the rules have been made by both Leadership and myself.” I say, clearing up any confusion if there was any.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me…” I begin.

“Obi-Wan,” I say while nodding in his direction, “Anakin.” I look in his direction.

“I must acquaint myself with the other patrons.” I bow.

“Of course, your highness.” Obi-Wan replies.

“Don’t let us distract you from your royal duties.” Anakin comments with a smile. I smile back and start walking to find the next Jedi or Senator.

- 30 minutes later –

After half an hour of walking and talking, I think I need a break. I pull a chair from one of the many tables in the hall and take a seat. I take a deep breath and exhale.

I’ve already spoken with all of the members of the Jedi Council, 8 Jedi Knights and their padawans and 300 congressmen and women and that’s not even half.

The dancing will begin shortly, so I hope I get to rest my feet for just a few minutes…

Not too long into my relaxing, I hear two chairs being pulled out. I take a deep breath, straighten my posture and put on a smile. I look up to see Kaila and Alani slumped in their chairs. I break out into a real smile and relax my shoulders.

“Hello ladies, you guys look as exhausted as I am and it hasn’t even been an hour.” I joke.

Kaila laughs exhaustedly, “Do you know how many touchy Senators we’ve had to shoo away from the poor female attendees? That Orn Free Taa? Too touchy for my liking…” I laugh.

“The men of the Republic need etiquette.” Alani agrees with closed eyes.

“Perhaps not all of them…” I say quietly. At my addition, both Kaila and Alani open their eyes and straighten up excitedly, forgetting their exhaustion.

“Oh?” Kaila asks with a smirk. I now realize my addition was a mistake; not only are Alani and Kaila my caretakers, but they are also my best friends and unfortunately love gossip.

“Do tell of the well-mannered men you’ve encountered this evening.” Alani urges with her elbows on the table and her hands underneath her chin.

“Well…” I start, going through my evening so far, “Senator Organa and Senator Farr were very polite, unlike the Senators you’ve had to deal with.” I counter with triumph.

“I’ve also met multiple Jedi who were nothing but well-mannered and polite.”

“Like who?” Kaila pushed.

“Like-like Master Mace Windu.” I reply, “Master Yoda and Master Obi-Wan Kenobi…”

“…and Anakin Skywalker.” I finish off quiet, voice uneven. Just saying his name makes my voice waver. I’ve never met a man who’s had this kind of effect on me before…

“Anakin Skywalker…” Alani repeats, “If I remember correctly he came last week with Master Kenobi for his fitting…”

“A rather handsome young man…” Kaila repeats my words from earlier.

Suddenly, I hear the ringing of a single bell signifying the beginning of the first dance. I quickly stand up, “Excuse me!” I say quickly and loudly as I rush to the balcony. I’m not even out of earshot when I hear them giggling.

I take deep breaths to steady my heartrate while I climb the stairs. I reach the top and clear my throat and the audience quiets down.

“The ringing of the first bell indicates the first of two dances. For the first dance, Leori will dance with Leori and this is the same for the people of the Republic. This illustrates our situations before our alliance. For the second dance, it will be mixed. It is mandatory for a Leori to dance with someone of the Republic and vice-versa. This illustrates our situation after our alliance. You have 5 minutes to choose your partner if you wish to dance as the first dance is not mandatory.” I finish and descend the steps for the second time this evening.

I stop at the foot of the stairs and weigh my options. I could a) return to my table and get pestered about Anakin or b) women up and find a partner.

Before I decide what to do, a familiar voice cuts into my thoughts.

“It’s been a while, sis.” A male voice announces. I look to my right and see my older brother, (B/N), with his arms open.

A huge smile replaces my thoughtful look and I rush into his arms, “Brother! What are you doing here?” I ask excitedly and squeeze him.

He wheezes, “I could tell you if I could breathe.” He manages; I immediately release him, “Sometimes you don’t even recognize your own strength, (N/N).” He says using my childhood nickname as he rubs his sides.

“You forget, I married a Senator of the Republic after I refused the throne?” (B/N) reminds me; even though our planet is predominantly female, he is older and would have been next in line.

“Ah, yes. I was so busy with the preparation of the party. It slipped my mind…” I admit, “How have you been? Is the money I sent enough? Do you need more? If you do, I can-“

“(Y/N), calm down. I’m fine and the money you sent is enough; I don’t need anymore, trust me.” He reassures me, “We can catch up later; for now, may I have this dance…” He asks, extending his hand towards me. I raise my eyebrow at him.

“…your highness?” He adds. I smile, glad he hasn’t forgotten the ways of our people.

The horn sounds as the classical music played by the orchestra in the sound room begins to play over the speakers. The first dance has begun.

The music has started to play signifying the beginning of the first dance. I’ve decided to sit this one out as the only other person I really know, Padmé, already has a partner. I sit at a table and sip my flute of one of the lighter alcoholic beverages being severed; as a Jedi, I should always be on my toes.

I scan the crowd when my eyes land on the Queen, who appears to be dancing with a man at least half a foot taller then her. The man she’s dancing with is attractive, to say the least. He has elegant features and whatever he’s saying to her makes her laugh; a laugh most likely so scarce only a select group of people ever get to hear it.

What is he saying that’s so funny? I thought when I heard the shattering of my glass. I guess my jealously paired with my prosthesis isn’t necessarily a good mix. Luckily, my beverage only spilled into the plate below with few drops of it on the tablecloth. I disregard my drink and return my attention to the Queen. Her partner spins her and she seems to be having a great time. It’s hard to be jealous when she smiles like that…

My thoughts are cut off when the music stops. The two separate and they bow before the Queen ascends the stairs. She’s most likely announcing the second dance… I suppose that’s my cue; good thing I did my research...

“I hope you had a lovely time with your first partner; however, it is now time to choose your second. The second dance will begin shortly. You have 5 minutes to choose your next partner.” I announce and descend the stairs for, hopefully, the last time. I reach the foot of the stairs when a Senator approaches me.

“Would you like to dance, your majesty?” he asks.

“No thank you.” I respond politely. He nods and walks away. Another Senator walks up, one from Ryloth.

“Care to dance, your highness?” He asks with his hand extended in my direction.

“I’ll have to pass, Senator.” I reply. He looks at me and rolls his eyes as he walks away.

“Excuse me, my lady.” A voice intervenes; not a familiar voice, but one I’ve heard before. I turn around to be met with Anakin Skywalker.

“Anakin.” I say, hopefully.

He smiles at me, “May I have this dance…” He extends his hand to me, “…your highness?” I smile and rest my hand in is, “You may.”

The horn sounds again as another song plays over the speakers. Something along the lines of classical and tango; a rather interesting mix to describe the alliance between us.

“If I may, did you really know how to ask me to dance or was it luck?” I ask out of curiousity as he leads me to the dance floor. He grabs my hand with his right and places his left on my waist. He pulls me close and whispers in my ear, “I knew.” At this, my heartrate picks up once more.

He resume our dance at normal distance.

“Your grace, if I may, who were you dancing with earlier?” Anakin asks as we continue to glide across the floor.

“Oh, that was my brother, (B/N). Many think he’s given up his prince status, but he merely rejected king status and still remains crown prince of Roe’ Leor.” I inform him, thinking nothing of the question.

“I see. So, your majesty, are you aware of the dangers that come with being partnered with the Republic?”

“Yes. Since Roe’ Leor is no longer a neutral system, the Separatists will now target us given our change in position.”

“Have you increased your security?” He asks as he dips me.

“Tripled.” I respond as he lifts me back up.

“Has the Republic asked about outposts?

“Yes.”

“And your answer?”

“Anakin Skywalker, did you ask me to dance for business of for pleasure?” I ask, finally feeling more comfortable in his presence.

“Officially, business.” He responds as he spins me similar to how (B/N) spun me earlier.

“Unofficially?” I ask. He smiles at me and whispers in my ear with a sultriness that makes my heart melt, “Pleasure.” Then, as he dips me, the last note of the song is played.

He brings me back to a standing position.

“It was a pleasure dancing with you, Anakin Skywalker.” I say as I bow, still a little disoriented from his answer.

“Please,” he bows and grabs my hand similar to our first meeting, “the pleasure was mine.” and he kisses it.

“We’ll see more of each other in the future, your highness.” He gives me a jaunty salute then walks over to Obi-Wan.

Never in my life have I ever wanted a man so badly.

Little did I know, even though I made my comment internally, Anakin was still close enough to listen in on my thoughts and walked away with a smile on his face...

I leave the Queen to return to her queenly duties and walk over to Obi-Wan.

“You looked rather cozy dancing with the Queen.” He noted.

“Really? I didn’t notice…” I replied coyly.

“Let’s just hope that you haven’t ruined our friendship when it’s only just begun.” He states as he makes his way over to Master Yoda.

I smile and look back at the Queen and she’s talking to her bodyguards.

Farewell, your highness. Until our next meeting…

The Queen’s eyes widen and her attention is turned towards me. I smile at her and she smiles back.

Farewell, Anakin Skywalker. Until we meet again.

Something that recently occurred to me was that I often see discussed who would have been the best master for Luke, Leia and Mara had the Jedi not fallen (and fixed up the issues they did have in the old republic). I believe I've seen a lot of people suggest that Obi-Wan would have been a good master for both Leia and Mara. I think I've also seen discussion on Anakin training Luke, as well as Yoda. What are your thoughts, had the old jedi lived? who would be the best master for each?

This is a great question! Personally, while I have come to have more empathy for Yoda over time, I am just not a fan of the old frog so I will never recc him as a direct Master for anyone.

Luke:

I’m not sure that I love Obi-wan as a Master for Luke simply because Obi-wan and Anakin are so close and I believe that in an ideal world Luke should be given a chance to shine on his own and not constantly be in his father’s shadow/following his footsteps. I would be on board for Ahsoka training him if she came back to the Jedi, but I also think it would be kind of fascinating if he’d been trained by Quinlan Vos. Vos was close to Obi-wan and unconventional, both of which would have made him a good fit for Luke potentially. Vos wasn’t intimidated by anyone, so Anakin being Luke’s father wouldn’t have influenced how he trained his padawan, which I think would be good for everyone. Vos was also born and partially raised to parents in leadership roles on their home planet, which I feel would give him a solid grounding in the complicated life Luke would necessarily lead if both his parents lived and he pursued the path of a Jedi.

Leia:

I can see Obi-wan being a good fit for Leia because the relationship between them would be so different. For all that Leia has much of Anakin in her, she’s also a born diplomat and I can see Obi-wan and Padme teaming up to train her to be the next Great Negotiator. The unique focuses and dynamics there would spare her the “living in Anakin’s shadow” fate that I think Luke would get caught up in.

I can also see her thriving under Shaak Ti. Shaak Ti was described as one of the most cunning Jedi around, but she also carried a profound aura of calm and felt things deeply. She, like Leia, was exceptionally people-oriented and consistently chosen for liaison positions and to serve on things like the Council of Reconciliation which would seemingly make her a fantastic model for Leia and a great person under which for Leia to hone her natural strengths. Also, like Vos, she has enough distance from Anakin to keep him from influencing how Leia was trained.

Mara:

I have heard other people recommend Mace Windu as a Master for Mara, and I think he’d do a bang-up job. He’s got the control and steadiness that Mara needs to thrive, and he’s a master swordsman, which is also something she would adore and strive to match. At the same time, he is deeply loyal and caring behind closed doors, which would feed Mara’s need for love and security. (Also, it doesn’t hurt that he’s close to Vos, which would put my two faves in regular contact/possibly on missions with each other, which my shippy heart is 10000% there for!!)

Alternatively, I think Mara could have thrived under Jocasta Nu beautifully. Mara loves knowledge, discipline, and order, and Jocasta is no slouch on the fighting end of things either. Mara would love the sense of purpose and importance that came with being Nu’s heir in the Archives and the role of protecting the Jedi’s amassed knowledge, and I think her innate awareness of and appreciation for beauty would flourish in the heart and the Temple and under Nu’s guidance, as well. (This works for my shippy heart, too, because guess who young!Luke would head to every time he hit up the archives for another book on ship design, droid modifications, etc? Yup. Straight to that pretty redhead who knows the fastest way to find the best information every time. 😉)

If anybody wants to write me this fic where our faves all grow up Jedi, Leia and Mara are friends, and Luke sleeps in Mara’s bed every time he’s on Coruscant because it’s the one place his parents can’t find him and Leia doesn’t say anything because he’s keeping quiet about the attention she’s getting from that hot pilot Han Solo she met on a recent mission, I WOULD BE SO ON BOARD...

I’m freaking out because i just...i’m SO psyched for the Kenobi series but i’m so afraid that they’re gonna give him a romance. I hate it because i...i just, and you’ve talked about this before, he’s he perfect Jedi. To Obi-wan, being a good person IS following the code, even after the order is gone. He wouldn’t have realistically ever left the order for kryze (even tho i don’t consider that canon that always felt ooc to me) or the others bc he’s completely devoted to the code above all else 1/2

Especially after what he saw happen to anakin and padme because of that attachment. I highly doubt he would, 8 years later, be willing to even have temptation of a romantic partner. And god forbid we hear more Rey Kenobi theories. I’m just worried Disney is going to do a disservice to his character bc hollywood HAS to have a romance plot in everything. Do you think they’ll go down that route? 2/2

So we’re dealing with a few different issues here. Let’s break this down:

“The Perfect Jedi”

Obi-wan attempts to be the perfect Jedi. He tries, oh so hard, to keep himself at that exacting, impossible standard. Of course, no one is the perfect Jedi - not Obi-wan, not Yoda, not Mace Windu - and certainly not Qui-gon. (And yet there is something in there, the delicate balance of striving towards excellence as opposed to striving for perfection, and it is an important distinction, one that I don’t think the Jedi, as a whole, always got correct as a sense of extremism took root within certain sectors of the Order.) Now, the reason behind this predilection - well, we could point at a few factors. Obi-wan’s sense of impostor syndrome (not at all helped by one Qui-gon Jinn, who seemed to be constantly thinking Obi-wan was somehow behind on his development, as shown in Master and Apprentice.)

(There’s a whole other meta I’ve touched on regarding the whole inter-Lineage…I don’t want to use the word trauma, but let’s just say they all inherited their predecessors’ issues and manifested them very differently.)

But yes, from the get-go, it seems that Obi-wan needs to prove himself. To Qui-gon, as a Padawan. To Qui-gon’s memory, when he takes Anakin. To Anakin, to prove he could be the Master of the Chosen One. To the Council. Etc. It’s a lot of pressure on one person. And the thing is, Obi-wan cracks, more than once. His sardonic, biting sense of humor is indicative enough of his less-than-perfect adherence to the Code, not to mention all the rules he bends for Anakin, his devotion to Satine - which is an interesting case study. In the end, Obi-wan does not succumb to Maul’s taunts to go feral/Dark Side but Obi-wan’s actions on Mandalore, precipitated by his very un-Jedi actions regarding Satine, set off a cataclysm of far-reaching events. As does his refusal to kill Anakin on Mustafar, which could be construed as a wild infraction of the Jedi Code. I mean, had Obi-wan killed Anakin, made *sure* of it and not walked away, what would have happened?

And yet, he tries to do good. Even as he realizes his faults, his part in moulding galactic events. Obi-wan could have done more, could have done differently, and yet despite his awful circumstances, he never gives in to hate. He is flawed, imperfect, but still holds on to some core part of himself. And I think that core part is something…that’s not the Jedi Code. The Code, in the end, is meaningless after Mustafar. (And I really REALLY hope the series touches on this idea of loss of faith, because Obi-wan held on to the Code so tightly, as a way of justifying so many of his actions because what else did he have? And I love existential crises when they’re not my own. HA!) The Code may have been his way of telling himself he was doing good - was doing what Qui-gon wanted, what the Council wanted, what was best for Anakin…but I wonder when Obi-wan sat down and thought about what he wanted for himself? Without expectation, without other people’s narratives. (Okay, so I may be projecting a bit here.)

I’m getting off-topic here. Would Obi-wan have left the Order for Satine? No. He would have thought about it, fantasized about it. But at that point, he would have been too wrapped up in expectations to actually do anything about it. And by the time the Clone Wars came around? He was too responsible, too enmeshed. And…you know, I get it. I’m around Obi-wan’s age in TCW/RotS. There’s so much narrative to unpack in your life, so much expectation that you can internalize or throw away and whose story is it anyway? Those around you? Your own? Some odd mixture therein? But Obi-wan wasn’t ready to let go of that narrative, of those expectations, of the ghost of Qui-gon and so, no, he wouldn’t have left the Order. But there would be nights, those nights. When the lights have dimmed in the quarters on board the Star Destroyer, when the company you keep is an empty durasteel table, half a bottle of Corellian whiskey, and twenty years of what if…

But you were asking about romance, about attachment. (So often conflated, although never one and the same. Or perhaps they are different terms for the same idea, not love in the carnal sense but illogical devotion to someone or something. I always like the idea of there being many words, ideas for love, as the Greeks made popular in our culture. Love, or attachment to an idea or a thing can be just as wonderful, as intoxicating and dangerous as it can be with a person.)

Realistically? An Obi-wan set adrift in Tatooine might get attached, despite everything. (The novel Kenobi does a fantastic job of illustrating this.) We yearn for connection, and someone who has all but cut themselves off from interaction with other beings…how long can you hold out?

This isn’t to say I would support a full-fledged typical Hollywood romance in the series. Because honestly? Not the time or place.

Now, if it is something where Obi-wan feels a connection with someone and then purposefully acts against it? I would be okay with this. As it would be in service to the idea that he is (tragically) cutting himself off, believing himself to taint others, to be less than. And given the trajectory of recent streaming, I’m more confident than I would have been a few years ago that a series can do without a “typical” romance. (Which…thank the gods for that development. I don’t mind natural romance (I’m looking at you, Good Omens), but the shoe-horned heteronormative plots I was forced to endure through the 80s, 90s and early 2000s were…tiring, to say the least.)

We’re in a new era now, with these streaming services, with the impact fandom has on media, with social mores changing for the better, in my opinion. (But seriously, it’s wild for an old fogey like me to watch unfold. A little weird, I’m not going to lie, but on the whole, a positive development.) I’m going to put my faith in a few things, including a) Ewan McGregor wouldn’t have signed on to this if it weren’t going to be something interesting and nuanced (and gods know he held out long enough, so I’m assuming the man has standards) and b) Disney wants our wallets and has a pretty good grasp of its demographics (probably a scarily accurate grasp, but that’s another story for another time), so I’m not too worried about a prototypical romance plot.

Now, as to Rey Kenobi theories, I have to admit, I enjoy them, only because I’ve been struggling for more Kenobi content recently. I doubt that’s the route they’ll go down, especially in light of all the rumours circulating about Episode 9. And so, in the end, what I hope (and believe) we’ll get is a very human story about a man who tried to live by a narrative and failed, and tried to reconstruct himself not totally escaping the chains of those events and people, but still trying to do good.

Since the new Star Wars will be released in less than a week, I’ve been binge watching some of my favourite episodes...

I’m a bit surprised, but given how the original sixology (? the first 6 episodes) all revolve around a certain character who fell to “the dark side” and then was redeeemed, i couldn’t help but think about a certain game -

Ani’s the chosen one (tm) and knows it.

It goes over his head, makes him arrogant, his descent to madness is kind of gradual but it is well portrayed (unlike his romantic plot) - he really wanted to save the mom he never forgot but was forced to and now his wife is going to die and he must do something to prevent it because he is just so strong isn’t he supposed to be the chosen one (tm)?

Ani murdering children is never whitewashed. Ani, in his madness, tries to kill the one he swore to protect.

Ani doing all the shit he does in Episode III is, and will never be whitewashed

There is this “split-persona” thing where Darth tells Luke that Ani’s dead (just like Obi-Wan says Darth killed Ani) but in the end, we discover that the real Ani never died and there was still some part of him buried inside Darth’s evil looking armor.

(Ani never realising that the force is strong in his daughter when Luke says it is is on par with Princess Julia shenanigans, the plot never wanted it to happen but it had to be mentionned in some weird way)

so yes, at the end of the 6th movie, Ani’s kind of redeemed and appears as a force ghost.

I thought Ani was a nice parallel to another mask wearing authoritarian character we know.

Granted, Anakin is shown to be subservient to Palpatine (calls him master and does whatever he wants - even if i read on the wiki that he tried to kill him after learning that Padmé died?) when Edel’s not so subservient to her uncle Arry.

Both were manipulated by external forces who are actually the reason why they suffered (even if it is not that simple in Star Wars? You can make the argument that Palpating was nurturing the “asshole” streak of Anakin, but he was still an asshole ?) and choose wrong pathes - Palpatine deceived Anakin into killing Windu and isolated him from the Jedis, Uncle Arry experimented on Edel and is apparently the reason why she’s so lonely and can’t trust anyone, save for Hubert and Billy.

But Anakin is called on his bullshit, by Padmé - the one he sacrificed everything for. Confronting his wife, Ani reacts violently and tries to kill her.

(it is never said why “she died in childbirth” apparently she lost the will to live so bar the WTF YOUR CHILDREN ARE YOU GOING TO LET THEM ALONE BECAUSE YOU DON’T WANT TO LIVE ANYMORE??? - I think it’s pretty implied that when Anakin tried to kill her she lost it, she couldn’t save him, she knew he still had “some good left in him” but she knows she isn’t the one able to call to him)

When Ani realises that Padmé and their kid (remember guys, those people can sense pregnant women being alive but not two force sensitive babies inside said pregnant woman, i mean sense a daughter) died he breaks (tries to kill his master?) and becomes the souless husk we see until Luke comes in.

Thing of importance here : Anakin is called on his bullshit.

A certain someone from Fire Emblem’s latest opus is never called on her bullshit, let it be her odd allies, the fact that Kronya used to be a thing, why Jeralt died or the funny experimentations on peasants.

Anakin, angry that his beloved doesn’t react like he planned, kills her (tries to) violently.

He then has to fight his sensei

Billy never tells Edel that nope, Rhea isn’t the Goddess the Church is venerating, the real Goddess lives in their head, or that Edel’s story about Nemesis and the relics is doodoo. Would Edel have reacted violently and tried to kill Billy?

SS plays the scene where sensei has to fight his wayward student as a tragic thing but there is nothing on par with Obi-Wan and Ani’s duel on Mustafa. We’ve seen Obi-Wan raise, as much as he could do, Anakin, who was naught but a brat. We saw them spend time, do missions etc, together. Even share jokes!

Anakin tried to killed Obi-wan, and all of his former allies (the Jedis). He managed to kill (he and Sidious) a crapton of them (even babies!) but the one in front of him he has to kill is his father figure, his mentor.

When Ani “I 8 U” memetic words are heard it’s a parallel to Obi-Wan’s “I thought of you as my brother” “I loved you” - there is no returning point here. Kenobi’s torn - Anakin became their enemy and he dealt with him accordingly (alway being on the defensive and severing his legs after warning him that it was useless to continue) but still showed sadness.

Billy? Is shown to be sad?? But why? Where is the weight? They spend (in SS?) a year together?

Sadly Billy also spent a year with Bernie’n’co and Edel tried to kill them. Was he closer to Edel than to Bernie’n’co? Nothing prevents Billy from reaching supports with the other BE students - so if Edel confessing her torture to Billy could be seen as that big thing for her, why should it be different than, say, Bernie confessing that her dad wanted to make her a good wife, Dorothea more or less confessing that she used her talents to get a place in the academy or Ferdie’s insecurities about being the eldest son of House Aegir?

“But Rhea is an evil baby-eating monster; the church lied to everyone”

Note that Obi-Wan never says that Anakin’s distrust with the Jedi Council is unfounded (during episode III iirc) or that he’s plain wrong.

Obi-Wan considers Anakin dead because he tried to kill Padmé, because he fell to the Dark Side, and because he effing cut babies (i don’t even know if Obi Wan knew about Ani’s role in Mace Windu’s death).

Just because one party did shit it doesn’t enable you to do way worse shit

Morale (one of them?) is that I don’t know Star Wars universe like I pretend to know FE.

But if there is one thing I loved in Episode III and in the subsequent episodes (4 5 6 and even 7 where Ben’s entirely wrong about grandpapa) is that while Darth’s story is a sad story (Palpatine manipulated him), he found his redemption doing the only thing he could, at the cost of his life - saving Luke and embracing his Jedi persona.

And yet, does it absolves Ani of everything he did? Hell no!

Anakin-Darth dies. He doesn’t get to live a fruitful life with his son (and daughter he only discovered in the last minutes of his life despite having meet her earlier), he dies.

Edel? Doesn’t face consequences of her shit.

So no Sensei trying to kill her, or if Sensei does it’s painted as a tragedy for reasons we don’t really know because, hey, Sensei is also the Sensei of the other BE - there’s no special Edel exclusive bond with Sensei (and no as i said earlier, revealing her tragic backstory in supports doesn’t count, because Bernie and Ferdie did the same thing).

Edel doesn’t lose Sensei, since the loli in Sensei’s head doesn’t see anything wrong with her daughter having been turned into minced meat due to her race and fuses with Billy or some other shit to explain why Sensei’s defective - since birth - hearth suddenly starts beating (is it the moment where Billy realises that shit, without Rhea i’d be a dead baby in the end i owe my life to her?)

Since Edel never loses anything of importance, Edel never learns.

When Edel threatens her nuncle it’s funny, when Anaking turns against Sidious (after having watched the prequels) it’s satisfying and cathartic - finally, Sidious who used to dispose of his minions right and left tastes his own medicine as in, he who betrays must expect some sort of betrayal.

Edel gets to live with her significant other even when she wanted to kill Billy (in the tomb and with the “we don’t need gods anymore” “i’m the vessel of god she kind of fused with me do you mean you don’t need me anymore??” but the last one is never adressed in the game :p) when Anakin has to live with the (distorted) fact that he killed Padmé.

They still share some loltastic moments.

When Ani argues to Windu that Palpatine can’t be executed without a trial, Windu says fig it.

But Anakin never gave a fair trial to count Dooku or to the Tusken Riders he rekt a long time ago (in episode 2)...

TFW due process only concerns senators...

Tl; Dr : Even Anakin, in all of his pear-slicing glory is a better written character than Edel.
