Write me Jason coming back from the pit and not being able to recognize himself. He hadn’t been scrawny for a long time, even as he died, but he’s big now, so big and tall, and his eyes are no longer blue like his big brother’s. Even he looks in the mirror and sees a completely different man, let alone his family.
But write me Bruce not recognizing Jason, so big and violent and not his little kid anymore, until he sees him reading a book, pencil in hand to make notes, just like he would when he was younger, and yeah that’s his Jason, that’s his boy.
Write me Dick not recognizing Jason, but seeing his little brother when he can’t take his eyes away from Dick while he’s practicing his jumps, because, although he’d never admit it, he had always been fascinated how his big brother seemed able to actually fly.
Write me Alfred not recognizing Jason, not when the eyes that look at him are no longer a soft blue, but they look at him nonetheless, when he joins him in the kitchen and asks if he can maybe take some of the cookies back to the kids in the alley, and when Alfred finally looks back into his eyes they have the same intense spark they used to have, not caused by the pit, but by the magic of helping someone. Different colored eyes, yes, but the same spark.
