THAT WAS ONE OF THE GAYEST EPISODES IN A HOT MINUTE LMAOOOO WTF
so i’ve just watched series 4 episode 10 ‘A Herald of the New Age’ uhhhhhh
wait wait wait so gwen’s gone for two (2) seconds and Arthur and Merlin are flirting like they’re in a school playground all over again lmaoooo i’m so done
so first of all they get back to Camelot and Merlin’s falls back into his concerned boyfriend routine 🥺🥺🥺🥺 SIDE NOTE THE KNIGHTS ARE JUST FULLY AWARE OF THESE TWO AT THIS POINT THEY ALWAYS FLIRT AND ARE REALLY TENDER IN FRONT OF THEM I CANNOT BE ARSED anyway Merlin asks Arthur if he’s alright and Arthur’s all sad and brooding 🥺🥺🥺 so Merlin says he was being quiet and Arthur just answers him with a snide remark but with none of the laughter and ARTHUR, KING, SWEETIE WHY WON’T YOU JUST LET THIS BOY HELP YOU???? 🥺🥺🥺🥺
SO THEN WE SKIP AHEAD A BIT AND OMFG LET ME TELL YOU I WAS CACKLING WITH LAUGHTER AND KEPT HAVING TO PAUSE IT. THIS SHIT IS GOLDEN
so Merlin walks in on Arthur asleep at his desk. if you’ve watched the show you will remember this scene because it’s too iconic but am i gonna run through it anyway?? you’re damn right i am because i am obsessed lmaoooooo
SO MERLIN JUST STRAIGHT UP BANGS ON THE DESK REALLY FUCKING LOUDLY TO GET HIM TO WAKE UP HAHAHAHAHHAA AND ARTHUR HAS FOOD ALL OVER HIS FACE I-
who fucking wrote this shit it’s too good man
Arthur jumps out of his mind and Merlin the little shit has the audacity to say “oh i’m sorry i didn’t mean to scare you” HAHAHAHAHAHA YOU ABSOLUTE DICKHEAD MERLIN 😭😭😭😭😭😭 and he barely even cracks a smile how this man holds it together i will never know. honestly how Colin Morgan managed to deliver that just once without cracking up is beyond me.
OH BUT WE’RE FAR FROM FINISHED
so Arthur responds “you didn’t scare me, i was asleep” LMAOOOOO YEAH BITCH WE KNOW HAHAHAHAHAHA IM STILL SCREAMING ABOUT THIS
so now Merlin starts to laugh a bit but he’s holding it together. you know when you’re in school and something funny happens with your mates and you shouldn’t laugh because you’re meant to be working but you can’t not laugh and you’re all just snorting to stop yourselves from laughing??? yeah same energy
Arthur: “why’ve you got that stupid smile on your face?” baby i don’t know what to tell you anymore
Merlin: “it’s nothing. why were you sleeping with your head on the table?” and his face just drops to confusion HOW DOES HE NOT KEEP LAUGHING
Arthur: “i fell asleep while i was reading” uh huh okay sure thing
Merlin: “what were you reading?” this is turning into the most mundane conversation you’ve ever heard but it’s priceless because Arthur’s still half asleep and Merlin’s just fucking with him i’m so done
Arthur looks around trying think of something and realises be can’t lie anymore so this bitch just has to say “i am the King of Camelot i do not have to answer to the likes of you” LMAOOOOOOOO KING JUST ADMIT YOURE AN IDIOT AND LEAVE and Arthur’s almost cracking a smile at this point too we get it you love him
Merlin: “oh you’re in a good mood, you obviously got out of the wrong side of the table” AND THIS MAN JUST STARTS PISSING HIMSELF AT HIS OWN JOKE I-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
AND ARTHUR’S DEADPAN STARE IS PRICELESS
and Merlin explains the joke while he’s still laughing and Arthur replies “that’s extremely clever and funny Merlin there really are no limits to your wit now will you please just get me some breakfast” HAHAHAHAHHAA MATE WHEN I SAY IM HOWLING WRITING THIS POST
‘there really are no limits to your wit’ sent me
so Merlin goes to get breakfast and Arthur (who has loads of food on his face remember) uses the plate as a mirror OH BOY
THIS SCENE COULD NOT BE ANY FUNNIER I SWEAR
he lowers the plate with another deadpan stare aimed at the door. boy is FUMING LMAOOOOOOOO
he shouts Merlin and i will suck my own big toe if there is anyone in the castle Camelot that didn’t hear him MY GOD THAT WAS PRICELESS
me current state: deceased
OH AND IT DOESN’T STOP THERE OH NO NO NO
so the very next scene we’re at training Arthur tells the lads to pair up and Gwaine asks what’s in his hair. Arthur’s face is just a picture. Merlin helpfully answers that it’s stew. Leon asks him why he’s got stew in his hair. Merlin quickly responds “because he was reading” in that tone when Merlin’s being a right snarky little shit oh you know
the lads just turn to look at Arthur like “wtf man??”
Arthur takes a minute and says “change of plan. i think we’ll try something different” lmaoooo you just know what’s coming next
so Merlin’s used for sword practise
Arthur has first go and the lads are smirking at them and each other like “oh these two had another domestic” “about the stew this time ahhh right” lmaooooo
JUST GOLD
there was a whole two (2) minutes of just solid flirting, taking the piss and just generally annoying the shit out of each other i-
OH AND THERE’S MORE
it’s nighttime now and this cheeky bastard asks “would you like me to make up the bed Sire, or will you be sleeping on the table again?” with a little smile on his face HAHAHAHAHAHAHA it just keeps getting better this episode really is a gift
Arthur doesn’t respond because he’s all moody again and Merlin all but roles his eyes all he wants to do is cheer up his boyfriend 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 so he sighs “is this about Gwen” and Merlin looks kinda irritated and sad and Arthur won’t even look at him and Merlin says “we all miss her. you more than anyone” and Arthur cuts him off with “you can go now” maaaaate the feels
Merlin: “Arthur”
Arthur: “get out” oh so now you look at him
omfg you were happy earlier can you please just let him help you ffs you’re just making each other really fucking sad and it’s not helping anything
and Merlin leaves and Arthur kind of looks over his shoulder and almost shakes his head like he doesn’t actually want him to go 🥺🥺 and every damn time something like this happens i expect him to say “no, wait” 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
and now Arthur looks even more sad. well baby i don’t know what to tell you but you did just do that to yourself a little bit. just leT MERLIN HELP YOU ffs
SO Merlin storms in and dad Gaius is at the table reading and Merlin’s just ranting that he’s done being nice to Arthur and he doesn’t get any thanks and he’s saved his life so many times and all he ever does is shout at him. yeah boy we know aND SO DOES GAIUS because this man does not look up at him!!!!!! tell me that’s not Merlin ranting to his dad about his crush i swear-
Gaius tells him there’s more important things to worry about like the plot of this episode perhaps??? lmaoooo this is getting out of hand now. dad’s so done with Merlin’s lovesick bullshit lmaoo
so we move on a bit and Arthur tells his uncle that Merlin thinks Elyan’s possessed oh so now dad’s dead you value Merlin’s counsel huh king?? we love to see it
we love that Merlin can speak up a bit more now ehehehe
so uncle says that Merlin’s just tryna protect his friend and Arthur just looks at Merlin like “i believe you don’t worry but we need evidence man”
oh my christ we’re only half way through true episode i’ll try and speed things up a bit i think the main Merthur action’s done anyway
Merlin breaks Elyan out. arrives back at Camelot and walks into the throne room. Arthur’s drinking and reading something and just looks up when Merlin enters with the most glorious look on his face like “oh this bitch is back finally” and carefully considers what he’s gonna say to him 😂😂😭😭😭
Arthur: “Merlin! good of you to join me. perhaps i should fill you in on all that’s been happening while you’ve been... that’s a good question. what the hell have you been doing??” LMAOOOOO these two i can’t
Merlin: “i was...”
Arthur (cutting him off): “choose your next words carefully. they may be you last” pahahahahahaha alright king pipe down
Merlin: “i was searching.. in the woods.... for some herbs for Gaius” boy’s just rambling about herbs and says he got lost
Arthur: “you mean to tell me that you’ve been wandering around in the woods all night???”
and the look on this man’s face. WONDERFUL
Merlin says yes and Arthur asks what happened to his head because it’s bruised and i just knew it was coming ffs “i tripped over a root and hit my head on a tree and knocked myself out” this fucking moron. this fool i despair
Arthur just toys with him and offers him some food with him at the table is it a joke though Arthur if you actually just want to have a lunch date with him and Merlin realises he’s joking and we get another golden deadpan stare from Arthur and it’s the funniest shit damn this episode is blessed and Arthur just stares him down as he fucks off out of the room lmaooooooo 😭😭😭😭😭😭 and then to finish it off dramatically picks up his paper again so we all know he’s back to ‘important reading’ uh huh Arthur sure you’re not just thinking about that interaction?? like the rest of us clowns
fast forward and Arthur let’s Elyan go and somehow Merlin’s there again???
anyway Arthur talks to his uncle and when he’s gone Arthur confides in Merlin and Gaius i’m sorry but we have to stan some A+ development (also i really hope Arthur’s starting to lose trust in his uncle because i was sort of getting that vibe from this scene idk we can only hope)
Merlin’s in Arthur’s chambers that night clearing up and Arthur says “that’ll be all Merlin” anD MERLIN REPLIES “are you sure you don’t want me to stay?” UMMMMMMM FOR WHAT????? I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT ARTHUR WAS GOING TO SLEEP UHHHHHHHHHHHHH IDK MAN SEEMS KINDA SUS TO ME WHAT’RE YOU GONNA DO MERLIN JUST SLEEP IN HIS BED WITH HIM??? HMMMMMMMMM THE PLOT MAJORLY THICKENS BECAUSE ARTHUR DOESN’T EVEN FIND THIS AN ODD SUGGESTION BECAUSE HIS RESPONSE IS JUST “think i’m gonna get an early night” OKAY SO FIRST OF ALL THAT IMPLIES THAT HIM AND MERLIN WOULD BE- *BIG COUGH COUGH*
AND SECONDLY THAT IMPLIES THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THEY’VE DONE BEFORE I REALLY DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS INFORMATION THE EVIDENCE SEEMS PRETTY CONCLUSIVE TO ME YOUR HONOUR
then they have a nice little joke about Merlin not getting an early night lmaooo we do love to see the bants
so later on Merlin follows Arthur into the woods lmao of course he does would you really expect anything less at this point?? and they have this whole why are you here?! no why are you here?! moment lmao
Arthur tells him he’s free to go back to Camelot at any time sweetie you really think that’s gonna happen?? you fool Arthur Pendrgaaon because obviously Merlin’s not going anywhere AND THEN ARTHUR’S BACK TO BEING A SELF SACRIFICIAL LITTLE SHIT AGAIN BABY YOU’RE KING NOW YOU CAN’T BE SO WILLING TO DIE AT EVERY FUCKING PROBLEM WTF we find out that this whole thing’s Arthur’s fault but this whole scene is honestly so nice and lovely and warm and he knows what he did was wrong and that he was a stupid young man 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 and the druid boy forgives him 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 and he’s CRYING omg recently Merlin’s constantly on the verge of tears but when Arthur cries you know some bad shit’s going down and the music omgggg 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 “from this day forth the druid people will be treated with the respect they deserve, i give you my word” 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 i love him your honour
so then we’re back in Arthur’s chambers and Merlin says “you know that was incredibly moving what you said at the shrine” Arthur says “it served it’s purpose” because Elyan’s alright ARTHUR STOP PRETENDING YOU DON’T CARE TO LOOK COOL FOR YOU BOYFRIEND MERLIN KNOWS YOU’RE 10X THE MAN YOUR FATHER EVER WAS
Merlin says “you meant it” and then Arthur gets a bit snappy because he’s embarrassed 🥺🥺🥺 and Merlin says “i don’t ever think i’ve seen you cry before. well not like that. you had tears running down your cheeks it’s nice to see this new sensitive emotional side to you, it suits you” doesn’t it just baby???? 🥺🥺🥺🥺 then we get a classic shut up Merlin and this is the first time Arthur dares to look at him throughout this conversation 😭😭😭 and then Merlin mocks him *gasp* “i really thought you’d changed” lmaoooo “then you’re as stupid as you are ugly” lmaooooooo Arthur just tell him he’s pretty and leave
and just to finish things off
Arthur’s walking to the door
Merlin: “so there’s no chance that we could have a hug?” and he’s half 🥺 and half smiling/laughing ready to play it off
Arthur turns back to him and starts play running towards him and Merlin runs away and Arthur tackles him off screen aND YOU CANNOT TELL ME ARTHUR DID NOT GIVE THAT MAN THE BIGGEST HUG WHEN THEY WERE BOTH DOWN ON THE GROUND AHHHHHHHHAHAHAHA THEH ARE SO PURE I LOVE IT 🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 can you not just imagine these two giggling and chasing each other round the room i-
#I SWEAR#STRAIGHT UP HALF THE EPISODE WAS JUST MERTHUR CONTENT#IF YOU SHIP THEM AND HAVEN’T WATCHED THIS EPISODE IN A WHILE#I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO#IT IS PURE GOLD#10/10 quality content#lmaoooooo#this post is a Whole Ride#i spent 1hr 30mins scrubbing through the episode and writing this post#can you fucking believe#hahahahahha#it is THAT important to me#HAHAHAHHA#i’m a clown#and we all know it#yes this is a super long post#you’re a trooper if you read it all lol#ALSO gwen’s back next episode eeeeeeee!!!!#i’ve missed her#🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺#ehehehehe#with a side of rambling#merlin ramblings#merlin#bbc merlin#merthur#bbc merthur#long post

Chapter 5: A Good Night to Die
A HEROES Fanfiction Angel Before the Fall Series By: Allyssa J. Watkins
“I am going to kill Sylar tonight."
Noah turned the iron spike over and over in his fingers, practically trembling with anticipation. It was red with rust and dried blood. The first time he'd held this spike, he was pulling it out of Sylar's skull. Tonight it was going back in for good. I am going to kill Sylar tonight. How many times had he said those words aloud, wielded them like his choice weapon, threatened it, savored it, promised it, to Claire as she sobbed against his shoulder, to The Company as he stood over the blood-stained carpet of yet another Special with the top of their head sawn off? Hundreds. And every promise, every vow had been a lie. Sylar was an infection, a cancer that he could never quite get all of, that kept coming back even stronger than before. Finally, after four grisly years, Sylar Gray had made a mistake. He'd fallen in love, and given Noah a heart to break, a weak spot to press and ultimately shatter. The plan was foolproof, flawless, and would end in Sylar's Death. It was an impending event, the only outcome, an actual definite. I am going to kill Sylar tonight.
He squeezed his fingers into a fist around the spike, his eyes sharp and focused as he imagined it dripping with Sylar's blood. That snarky psychopath had raised his lethal finger for the last time. I've got you, Gabriel. No more running, no more smart remarks or murderous parlor tricks. The chase is over.
"Hey Bennet, we got Ally to the cell, and gave your orders to the five guards in position. Man, your Primatech Paper Phonies, they make my brother's guys look like punk kids playing paintball!"
"Is she still unconscious? I need her completely blacked out, Sylar's already enough of a variable without adding Mrs. Smith too. In fact, I want all the intercom speakers to the detention wing silenced, alarms, emergency warnings, kill it all. When he comes, I do NOT want her to know. And Peter...... they aren't your brother's guys........ make no mistake, they're DANKO'S guys. Your brother is just the friendly face that legitimizes an ultra illegal operation. Don't forget that. I'm watching out for him. If we need anyone right now, it's Nathan Petrelli. He'll come around, you'll see. Killing Sylar is exactly the win we need to get him to stop this ridiculous witch hunt.
Peter got really quiet, biting the corner of his lip before looking at Noah with solemn eyes. "Thank you. Thank you, Noah. God....... I needed to hear that. It all comes down to tonight. I just want my brother back. Ally's down for the count, I'll tell the security guys about the intercom........"
"I have a question. What happens if someone comes here, actually wanting to buy some paper?"
Noah cracked a smile, as he pocketed the spike. "Good question, Parkman. You know, it's funny, in all my twenty plus years in the business, that has never once happened."
Noah stared at his flip phone on his desk, and Peter followed his gaze.
"Has he called yet?"
"Sylar? No, not yet, but it's coming. I can feel his hatred and rage from here. Rene hasn't checked in though, that's what's worrying me. I told him eight o'clock on the dot, or I'm deporting him."
"Relax. I just got off the phone with Claire, she's fine, she's having some kind of sleepover girls night with her dorm mates."
Noah whirled around, his features hard. "I didn't say anything about Claire, what do you mean you just got off the phone with CLAIRE!?"
"Whoah, Angry Dad, she called ME!! Your daughter's worried about you, Noah. C'mon don't give me that look, I played it cool, I didn't tell her anything about tonight. I'm her uncle too, remember? I told her Sylar was a near miss, and that The Haitian's there strictly as a precaution. Smart move by the way, Sylar's not getting anywhere near her with him hanging around.
"Perfect. Now you know my daughter's exact location, just what I wanted, and HELLO, "Cool Uncle Peter," how do you know that, "girls night sleepover," isn't the secret code for "college rager party with tons of strange boys," any one of them being SYLAR!? She's MY daughter, Peter, she may not have my actual DNA, but she inherited my lying ability pretty quick."
"I just want to say," Parkman started, looking at Noah earnestly, "I myself, didn't hear anything about where Claire may or may not be. And if she is where I don't know, Sylar's not getting it from me."
"Na, she's not trying to pull one over on you, Noah, I heard Notebook playing in the background, and at least one girl crying over some guy named Chad. I think we're good."
Parkman made a face, "Wait.......You've SEEN Notebook?"
"What? No......" Peter stammered, his cheeks turning red.
"How did you recognize it if you haven't seen it?" Parkman asked trying not to laugh.
"I..... I just guessed- I mean, I'm sure she told me the name of the- one of the other girls probably-
Both Parkman and Noah leaned in expectantly, with knowing smiles.
"Alright fine!!! I watched it with my mom one night when I got off late, she'd been fighting with my dad, and GEEZ it was just the one time, okay!"
"Did you fantasize about being Ryan Gosling?"
"No! Well, maybe a little....... Rachel McAdams is hot, alright?"
"Let's hope for the love of GOD you lie better to my daughter, than you do to us."
Suddenly the flip phone on Noah's desk rang, and a cold, deathly silence filled the room.
"That's him. Everybody out. It's showtime."
**********
Noah inhaled deeply, as he took the phone in his hands. The ring sounded angry, accusing. He flipped it open, his hand steady, and slowly brought it to his ear.
"Hello?"
Nothing at first. Silence. But it was the Sylar kind of silence, the calm before the storm, the kind of silence that was an obvious threat. He heard it then, the heavy, erratic breathing, and could almost picture Sylar, shoulders rising and falling as he struggled to keep his composure.
"Hey Syyy! I had a feeling you might check in. How's it goin' buddy? Thanks for the scar."
"......... Where......... is............ she?" Sylar's voice was seething, animalistic, and not at all human. It sounded the way you'd talk to someone right before you murdered them.
"I've got her, Gabriel. You want her back? You better be willing to make a deal."
Noah could practically hear Sylar's nostrils flaring on the other line, his fuming inhale as he tried to steady his breathing. More silence.
"Sylar?"
"DAMN you to HELL, Noah! You son of a BITCH, you have NO idea what you've just done!!!!"
"You kiss your girlfriend with that mouth? You'll be kissing her goodbye, if you don't start talking."
More silence
"Let me guess, Noah," Sylar responded venomously, saying Noah's name like it was an insult all its own. "This is the part where I break down sobbing, the distraught boyfriend, begging you not to hurt her, and offer myself in exchange, right? WRONG. I don't plan on dealing. This is a courtesy call. THIS is the LAST chance you'll EVER have to hand her over, before I raise hell all around you and take her anyway. You don't do every single damn thing I tell you, then you're in for the WORST night of your life, and oh GOD you're going to wish I'd just killed you." Sylar chuckled coldly, his voice dripping with dark sarcasm.
"You're not really in the position to be making any demands, right now, Sy." Noah smiled, his eyes razor sharp, practically feeling Sylar's back arch, disgusted. "I know you. You're playing it cool, chillin' like a villain, but you're going CRAZY without her, it's tearing you up inside, I can feel it, I can hear it, in the edge in your voice. You're off your handle, and you don't know what the HELL you're going to do........."
Sylar's nostrils flared with his fury, and he scrunched the burner phone in his hand as he lowered it against his cheek, tempted to crush it with his fist, his eyes flashing like wildfire embers.
He looked at the violent destruction all around him, half of it he didn't even remember doing, he'd been so blind with rage. It was one of his old haunts, a long ago abandoned hotel in Queens called, "The Rogue." The kind of place he would have never taken his lady. Dark blood spatter on the floor from previous kills, slashed paintings, broken ceramic pieces from lamps, ashtrays, soap dishes, anything he could throw, torn down wallpaper, green marble actually dug out from the floor, crumbling holes in the wall, shredded curtains and sheets, and an entire mattress torn clean in half, feathers still floating in the dusty air, after he'd ripped his way through the down pillows. Every single thing in the room had been ravenously demolished. His whole body shook with his deep hatred of Noah and how dead on he was. Damn right, he'd gone mental.
"Face it, Sylar. You're out of moves. Your shield is literally down. Checkmate, because I've got your Queen. Step away from the board and turn yourself in. You do that, and I might even let you say goodbye."
"What do you mean LITERALLY down!?" Sylar said far louder and much more concerned than he'd meant to. Damn it. He turned his head at an exact angle, feeling his chest expand. "No....... no, nice try, you wouldn't kill her before you got to me. Ha. Yeah right, Good Guy Noah Bennet. She's alive. I would know if you were lying. Besides, she probably reminds you too much of your precious Claire."
"Gabriel, you know better than anyone that Good Guys are capable of some very BAD things. She's not dead...... not yet. But if you don't give yourself up...... She will be. Especially if you even say Claire's name one more time."
Sylar waited for it, the reassuring tingle, his body signaling Noah's lie, his vision shaking. Noah was a good liar, but he wasn't a killer. He waited..... But it never came.
"I should have KILLED you in the alley, Noah. I had you. I had your throbbing jugular between my fingers, and I should have squeezed hard, until it burst open."
"You didn't have me, Gabriel. I had you. I had everything right where I wanted it. If you'd taken one step where you weren't supposed to be, I'd have shot her in the chest, her blood cloaking possibilities be damned."
"Please. No you wouldn't have. Even if you did, I can heal, or did you forget? You know who you can thank for that. One injection of my blood, and she'd be alive, and you'd be just another NYC homicide. You EVER shoot her, or so much as touch one curl, and I'll cut out your beating heart."
Noah grinned jovially. Oh he didn't know, didn't even realize it yet. He wished he could see his face as he told him. "Wrong. Your blood can't save her, you fool. One shot, she's dead. Her blood can't be altered by anyone but herself, or did YOU forget? You can give her every drop you've got, but she's not coming back. It doesn't matter if I killed her then, or if I kill her now, or if YOU kill her later. That's right, one day you're going to get in one of your moods, you're going to get angry, you're going to work out your aggression without thinking, and she's going to be standing too close....... Don't you get it!? You're going to kill her the same way you did your own sweet mother, the same way you killed VIRGINIA!!!!"
"DON'T YOU EVER SAY MY MOTHER'S NAME!!!!!!! Sylar screamed into the phone, his eyebrows slanted dangerously downward, his bottom lip shuddering, incensed. He punched another hole into the wall, with a yell, felt it crumble with the force of his fist, and watched his bruised and bleeding knuckles melt softly back into perfect skin. He was nauseous, his head swimming. He couldn't save Ally. If they took her life, he couldn't bring her back........
"You can save her, Sylar. Turn yourself in, and she goes free, untouched, safe, and you'll never have to worry about living through that trauma again. Her life for yours, it's that easy.
Noah could feel the uncertainty, the fear in Sylar's silence.
"You were right about one thing...... No matter how this goes down, I'll NEVER let you have her. You really think you deserve LOVE after all that you've done!? Villains never get the girl, Gabriel, there is NO happily ever after for you. After you DESTROYED my marriage there's no way in hell I'm just going to let you ride off into your twisted version of a sunset, with that girl, letting you use and abuse her to your black heart's content. I'd rather see her dead, than on your arm."
"You'll never take her from me again, Noah. I'm going to get her back, and when I do...... I'm going to punish you, ohhhh yes, I can make you feel pain that you'd never believe exists. You take away my dream, and I'll introduce you to your nightmare." Sylar felt his blood quicken, the killer within stirring, a slow smirk salaciously working its way across his lips. "The game's not over, it starts with me throwing away the board."
"Listen to you. You love it, don't you?" Noah said, a bit incredulous. "Sylar Gray, The Big Bad Boyfriend."
Sylar smiled, one eyebrow raised, his dark eyes positively sinful." It certainly makes the downtime more fun. So much more....... interactive."
"So you're sleeping with her?"
Sylar chuckled, brushing his thumb along his strong jawline, feeling his heart race at the thought. "Come, Noah, must you be so crass? It's called love-making and no. She's not that kind of girl."
"But you ARE that kind of boy. Don't think I didn't see you with Elle before that second eclipse. If you hadn't already killed her father, he would have killed you."
"Oh you know me, Noah, always plan ahead. Yes, I am, and I'm ready, but she's delicate, and worth waiting for...... besides you know how I love to have my imagination teased. The anticipation........ can be exquisite."
Noah felt his stomach writhe, thoroughly creeped out, and his voice was wildly unenthused. "Well..... lucky her. I suppose third time's a charm."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"You know EXACTLY what I mean. You're a literal lady killer, first Maya, then Elle, and now your new victim, Lovely Miss Ally."
Sylar rolled his eyes, annoyed. "Maya was a means to an end, and last time I checked still very much alive, I might add. The whole seduction was a ruse, and I didn't even have my powers then."
"Which didn't stop you from putting a bullet in her chest if I remember correctly."
"Insurance. If I hadn't, there would have been no way to know if Mohinder was giving me the right vial. I needed my powers back. And Elle....... Elle was your fault."
"Alright. I'll give you that one."
"Although........ I should thank you, really. If you and Elle hadn't pulled your messed up little stunt, I never would have become Sylar. You created me, Noah, and stopped poor Gabriel from killing himself."
"Like Frankenstein's Monster. There's not a day that goes by that I don't regret that. I should have let you hang yourself."
"Oh Elle....... If she hadn't used me, manipulated me, and outright lied to me about my parents, we might have worked. I think of her every time I'm electrocuting the life out of some poor soul......." He flipped his wrist, smiling fondly, and Noah could hear the crackle of blue lightning. "Oh yes, Elle's parting gift. It's funny...... at first, my little brunette seemed too good to be true as well. I threw her against the wall because I thought she was working for you. Fool me twice......"
"If I could have possibly known the hold she'd have on you, the unsettling fascination you'd have for her, she would be. Honestly, I imagined your taste in women much more malevolent. Nobody thinks the serial killer's going to fall for the girl scout. It sounds like a bad slasher flick. But then again..... what is it you call yourself? Sylar, The Great Defiler?"
"A lot of people call me that."
"No, it's just you. You make them good girls go bad, huh? Or is it opposites attract and all that?"
"Who says it can't be both? I just find it so sexy that the same girl and boy that always stayed in, unnoticed, unimportant, and spent every single night of their lives alone, are now the two most powerful beings in this world. Just warms ya up, doesn't it? I own the night now, Noah. And I own Ally.
"Not right now, you don't. You may have her fooled, with your tortured soul, misunderstood, all-I-need-is-love act, but as usual I see right through you. She's nothing but your next casualty. She belongs to The Company now, where her powers can be used for good, and not shielding worthless scum like you.
"Before you get too excited, Noah, about using her and get these grand delusions of invincible armies, allow me to enlighten you. "It won't work if you try to force her. She has to do it willingly. She has to want to do it. And she only has enough power to surround one person at a time."
"How the hell did you get her to do it for you that first time, then?"
"Hmmm.....It's killing you isn't it? I can't decide if it was my sexy eyebrows or my annihilating smile that convinced her. Huh. Probably both. You see, she has a thing for bad boys. And as it so happens, I have a thing for good girls. Especially when they have that little something extra y'know?
"Or much more likely, she showed you out of pure desperation so that you wouldn't kill her that first encounter. That's one to tell the grandkids."
"Yeah," Sylar smiled softly, remembering. She'd been so brave and instantly drawn to him, so willing and gentle. "That too...... God she's so clever. The moment she touched my chest, and I felt that inexplicable power pulsing through my veins, what can I say? She had me.
"And her little spell lasts about two hours doesn't it?"
Noah heard Sylar go dangerously silent on the other line. His breathing getting quiet, deadly.
"Yeah, that's right, I know about that too. Two hours, and it's been, what do you think, at least nine since your last power up?"
"Isn't that fortunate?" Sylar practically hissed, his snarky tone turning again cold and vicious. "You might actually have a fighting chance..... for once, Noah. Or at least a few hours longer than you deserve to live....... Well, it's been swell chatting, Bennet, but I'm bored. This is your last chance. Are you going to give me what's mine, or do we get to do this the fun way?
"You don't even know where I am, Gabriel. You'll never find her."
"I don't? You sure about that, Noah?"
A loud bang came from inside the closet and Sylar twitched like a predator that hadn't yet been fed.
"I know when you're bluffing, and I know when you don't know what the hell you're doing."
"Fun way it is. It's a good night to die, Noah. See ya in a few."
Sylar hung up, and Noah slowly lowered his phone. "Yes, Gabriel, it is."

Adrienette Drabble Fifteen: Judge
Gabriel snapped something about sartorial trends in Italian that Adrien didn’t quite understand. He had heard his father rant heatedly about fashion in Italian often enough to the point where Adrien himself was able to thoroughly insult designers, models, lighting specialists, the sound people, the critics reviewing a show, and the owner of the venue, but the comment Gabriel had just made was more subtle; thus, it went completely over Adrien’s head.
“Maybe I should learn how to say something useful in Italian like, ‘Where is the train station?’ or ‘Does this have meat in it?’,” Adrien thought as he watched the Seine fly by outside the car window.
Gabriel put his line back on mute and sighed, “This call is a waste of time. The idiot has no conception of the direction current trends are pointing for next season. Why, just the other day, I was speaking with a few of our new interns, and Ma—aa…”
Gabriel stopped dead, slowly turning to scrutinize the damage he had done.
Adrien smiled sadly. “Go on. What did Marinette say?”
Gabriel gulped. “…Neoclassicism is making another comeback. And she’s absolutely right.”
Gabriel cleared his throat. “I’m sorry. Are you okay? Are you going to be okay going to school today? Are you going to be okay seeing her? Am I pushing you too hard? We don’t have to do this.”
Adrien chewed on his lip thoughtfully. “I don’t know. There’s only one period left today, so…I’m sure I can tough it out for one period. As for Marinette…”
He covered his face with his hands. “God, I want to see her. I want to see her more than anything. Is that masochistic?”
Plagg sighed, poking his head out of Adrien’s shirt collar. “A little bit, Kid.”
Adrien blew out a long sigh, his hand trailing down his face to rub at his neck.
“I’m pathetic, aren’t I?” Adrien mumbled.
“Not pathetic,” Gabriel assured. “Just pitiable.”
“I can live with ‘pitiable’,” Adrien decided, distractedly tracing the bruises with a finger.
Gabriel’s lips pressed together in a thin line. “It won’t be like this for much longer. Things are going to get better.”
“I hope so,” Adrien mumbled, leaning his head to rest against the windowpane.
“Did Nathalie tell you we were able to schedule you to see a counselor at six this evening?” Gabriel inquired.
Adrien’s head whipped around, and he stared incredulously at his father. “What? Really? So soon? I thought we’d have to sit around on a waiting list for a few months or something.”
Gabriel shook his head gravely. “We didn’t really have time to be waitlisted. Measures might have been taken to circumvent the waiting list.”
Adrien’s expression slowly morphed into a frown. “What did you do? Do I want to know?”
“Let’s just say,” Gabriel sighed. “They’ll soon begin construction on the Emilie Agreste Memorial Mental Health Wing thanks to our generous donation.”
Adrien pursed his lips. “Part of me feels bad for cutting in line, but there’s also a part of me that reasons that they’ll be able to help more people with a new, updated wing.”
Gabriel shrugged. “I’m not concerned with being a good person. I’m concerned with being your father.”
“Mother would be pleased to have something named after her.” Adrien smiled nostalgically and began to giggle. “She would probably make some snide remark about giving her name to a psych ward.”
Gabriel began to laugh even as his heart throbbed. “Yes, she would, wouldn’t she? Emilie always had something snarky and irreverent to say.”
“…Dad?”
“Hm?” Gabriel was still getting used to the new moniker.
Adrien smiled with green eyes full of gratitude. “Thank you so much. You’ve been so great the past two and a half weeks, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. I’d be absolutely lost right now without your support…. I’m sorry I didn’t believe you when you said things were going to change.”
Gabriel reached out to run a hand through Adrien’s hair. “I’d given you no reason to believe me.”
“Thank you for today,” Adrien whispered. “I know you think psychologists are quacks, so it means a lot to me that you’ve gone to so much trouble.”
“I am willing to do anything you think we need to do to get you better, Adrien, regardless of my personal beliefs. At this point, I hope that I’ve been wrong this whole time and she’s actually able to help you,” Gabriel confessed.
Adrien nodded. “Yeah. Me too…but still. Thank you, Dad.”
Gabriel shrugged. “All I did was throw money at the problem like usual. This was a team effort. Nathalie spent all day finding a doctor and making the phone calls, and Plagg covered Nathalie’s desk while she was doing that, so…”
Adrien awkwardly tried to look down his shirt at the kwami. “Really, Plagg?”
Plagg floated out to shrug, landing on Gabriel’s shoulder. “I mean, you were out cold, so it’s not like you needed strict supervision. It wasn’t so hard to answer the phone and play around on the computer between poking my head in to check on you.” Plagg cleared his throat and recited, “‘Gabriel Enterprises. You’ve reached the desk of Nathalie Sancoeur. This is her assistant Plagg. How may I help you?’ And then you just have to tell them what day you need what where. Nathalie made me a cheat sheet. It wasn’t too hard since Nathalie has everything so organized.”
“Wow, Plagg,” Adrien snickered. “I didn’t think you had it in you to be useful.”
“I surprised myself,” Plagg admitted.
“He’s actually a very skilled resource manager,” Gabriel praised. “He reworked our invoice system.”
Adrien’s eyes widened in surprise.
Plagg shrugged. “I had a kitten who was an accountant for a law firm back in the late eighteen-hundreds. The principles are the same. I just had to learn how to work the computer, but I’ve seen you do that plenty of times, Kid.”
Adrien nodded dumbly as they pulled up to the school and the car stopped.
Gabriel looked at the building and then at Adrien with a dubious expression. “You’re sure you’re okay to do this?”
Adrien shrugged. “I’m at least going to try. I’ve got this. I mean, I get pummeled by akuma thrice a week, so how bad can this be?”
Gabriel winced, thinking, “Not anymore, you don’t.”
Gabriel leaned in to press a kiss to Adrien’s forehead. “Have a good day…. I’m proud of you.”
With a genuine smile, Adrien stepped out of the car and made his way into the school.
He snuck into Madame Mendeleiev’s Calculus class through the back door, hoping to escape notice by sitting at the back of the room, but Mendeleiev herself foiled his plan.
“Monsieur Agreste, so nice of you to join us,” she remarked sarcastically.
Nearly the whole class turned to stare at him.
“I’m sorry I’m late, Madame,” Adrien replied, head down, refusing to look at anyone so as not to witness their reactions to seeing him.
Apparently, the akumatization sensitivity training the teachers had to take had not made an impression on Madame Mendeleiev.
Adrien could feel his cheeks burning as he buried his eyes in the textbook and tried not to fuss with the scarf covering up the marks on his neck.
His classmates started whispering, and as much as Adrien actively tried not to hear, Chat Noir’s heightened senses affected him residually even outside of the mask.
“Wow. He looks like crap.” Juleka.
“Did you see the pictures online of him crying at the park Saturday?” Max.
“Look at that scarf. No points for guessing what that’s covering up.” Alix.
“Someone saw some action. Maybe he was so bad she broke up with him.” Kim.
“Serves him right for the way he’s been treating Marinette.” Mylène.
“Has your brother said anything yet?” Rose.
“How is he? How does he look? Does he look okay?” Marinette. Marinette obviously unable to look at him herself and asking Alya to do reconnaissance.
Adrien heard Alya draw in a sharp breath. “He’s…fine,” Alya lied.
Marinette sighed. He could almost see her rolling her eyes. “Alya?”
Alya blew out a weary breath. “Honestly? I think you wrecked him. If anyone was ever being held together by rubber bands, it would be him.”
“Oh,” Marinette replied in a barely-there whisper. “G-Great. Thanks.”
God, he hoped she didn’t look at him. He hadn’t thought he’d looked that bad, but, apparently, the situation was dire, and he didn’t want her to see him like that.
Tomorrow he’d put on more makeup. He would smile so hard and look everyone in the eye and stand up straight and be the Adrien Agreste that everyone saw on billboards. Tomorrow he would fake it so well that no one would suspect a thing.
But in that moment, he felt like a wounded seal watching the sharks circling round. He was not the Adrien Agreste on the perfume bottle. He was just that dorky loser Adrien whose life was currently rimming the drain.
He sank lower in his seat, hunching his shoulders to hide his face. He kept his head down until Madame Mendeleiev called for order and resumed the lesson.
He considered sneaking back out of class and heading to the nurse’s office until all the other students had left for the day. He’d been wrong. Battling akuma might be physically challenging and painful, but that was nothing compared to the mental anguish of sitting in that classroom, feeling like a freak show and having everyone whisper about him.
“Don’t stop breathing on me, Kid,” Plagg whispered. “Come on. In and out.”
Adrien took a shallow inhale. It was all his lungs could handle.
“Hey. No hyperventilating,” Plagg chided, concern softening his voice. “Kid, this was a bad idea. Let’s go home,” he suggested.
But Adrien couldn’t move. He was too afraid to get up and leave, knowing it would draw even more attention to himself. He was afraid to run away and show them how scared he was of them and what they would think and what they would whisper behind his back. He was too terrified to move, to flee and let them know they had beaten him.
He was afraid of what Marinette would think. He had to convince her he was emotionally stable. He had to prove that he was the kind of guy that she would want to get involved with. Running out of class crying would not accomplish those goals, so Adrien stayed and focused on not letting anyone see what a disaster he was.
After a few minutes, he tentatively peeked up at Marinette. Or, at least, the back of her head. Her hair was up in a bun, and she was wearing a black lace choker she had made out of some of the fabric scraps he had once given her.
Adrien lightly touched the bruises she’d left on his neck and thought that it was nice that she had a gift from him around her neck too.
The bell had barely rung when Adrien bolted from his seat, hoping to get to his locker and get out before anyone could look at him or say anything.
His plan failed.
He couldn’t remember his locker combination. The information was just gone. He tried several strings of numbers that seemed to have some potential, but none of them worked. It could have been the fact that his hands were shaking so badly, he wasn’t certain he’d entered the numbers he was intending to in the first place.
“Breathe, Kid,” Plagg reminded, phasing down Adrien’s arm and through the locker to pop the door open.
“Thank you,” Adrien mumbled meekly, feeling the edge come off his panic.
Until someone yanked his scarf off from behind.
“Hey, Agreste.”
Adrien spun to find Kim looming over him with a predatory smirk. “Wow! It looks like someone really mauled you. What happened?”
“Kim, could you please give me my scarf back?” Adrien reached for it, but Kim pulled it away, balling it up and holding it over Adrien’s head.
Adrien was five-nine in shoes while Kim had reached six foot three, and those few inches made all the difference.
“Make me,” Kim snickered.
Adrien stood on his tiptoes to no avail. “Please, Kim?”
“Nope,” Kim rejected the request gleefully. “You know, I don’t know what Marie ever saw in you. She’s so over you, by the way,” Kim added savagely.
“W-What?” Adrien blinked stupidly, hands dropping to his sides. “Marinette…is…?”
Kim shoved Adrien back into his locker door.
Adrien caught himself on one of the shelves inside the open locker and looked up wide-eyed at Kim as the other boy growled, “You bastard! Marie! Marie, that girl that you dated. Marie who was head over heels in love with you, you self-absorbed prick! You should be shot,” Kim spat, looking down at Adrien in disgust. “Guys like you should be taken out back and shot. I hope whoever gave you that hickey makes you suffer. I hope she toys with your heart like you did Marie’s.”
Adrien didn’t even have the presence of mind to flinch when Kim drew back his foot to kick Adrien.
Thankfully, the blow never landed.
“Back the hell off, Kim,” Marinette snapped, charging Kim like a rhino and shoving him away from Adrien while Kim was off balance.
“The hell, Marinette?!” Kim snapped.
Marinette stomped her foot, putting herself between Kim and Adrien. “You heard me: Back off,” she repeated, an eerie calm in her voice that spoke of someone who was master of the situation. “You mess with him, you deal with me.”
Kim shifted uncomfortably under Marinette’s intense glare. Upon brief consideration, Kim put his hands up, unwilling to go up against Marinette. He tossed the scarf at Adrien’s feet as he walked away, muttering under his breath.
The rest of the locker room went back about its business once the show had ended, but Marinette and Adrien remained motionless. He stared as she took a deep breath and forced her muscles, her jaw, her fists to unclench.
She didn’t turn to face him, and he was glad of it because he was positive that he looked pathetic. That he was pathetic. And she was just so cool and brave and wonderful.
Had she hurt him? Yes. Would he let her hurt him again? Gladly. Over and over and over if only that pain could be interspersed with happiness like she had made him feel when she’d smiled at him, called him Chaton, returned one of his puns with a pun of her own, kissed him…
She had told him not to speak to her. He wondered how strictly she’d enforce that rule.
“Thank you,” he ventured in a small, timid voice.
She visibly deflated.
He almost apologized, but she spoke first, “I will always have your back. No matter what.”
Without another word or a glance behind, she walked away.
But her words, that simple promise, meant the world to him. He shut the locker door and fled before anything else could happen to kill the hope inside of him.

House Call
A JSE Fanfic
Switch AU
Writing for the same AU two weeks in a row isn’t something I normally do, but I feel like this AU needs it because, well, I haven’t formally introduced all the characters yet. So, as a follow-up to the last thing I wrote, here’s this thing! Wherein some of the boys meet each other, and some more characters are introduced!
Jackie didn’t consider himself smart. Sure, he was able to get through medical school easily enough, but he wasn’t a surgeon or a specialist or anything complicated, just a general practitioner. That didn’t require too much book smarts to become, did it? And besides, there were plenty of areas where he had no idea what he was doing. That became evident when he tried to use Rama’s computer to play a video and ended up somehow entirely breaking the thing. He tried for half an hour to figure out what happened before giving in and calling a friend.
“So, uh...” Jackie bounced nervously, standing next to the desk in the study. “Is it, like, completely useless now, or...?”
The guy sitting at the desktop computer didn’t look up at him. He didn’t look like what most people imagined programmers to be like. He wore a black jacket and ripped black jeans, and his brown hair had a streak of green and a streak of black running through it. His eyes were two different colors: green on his right and blue on his left. “Yeah, completely useless,” he said casually. “You broke it all.”
“What?! You can’t be serious!”
“Dead serious. Gonna have to scrap the whole CPU.”
“But Rama has so much saved on here! We can’t just throw it all out! So much of their work is gonna go to waste—wait a second.” Jackie’s eyes narrowed. It seemed the programmer was biting back a smile. Jackie scowled, giving him a hearty shove. “Oh, very funny, Anti. Congratulations, you gave me a heart attack.”
“How many times are you gonna fall for that?” Anti asked through laughter.
“Well, it looks like every time at this point. Now give me the actual news.”
Anti calmed down, reentering his serious mode. “I dunno how it happened, but you somehow caught a virus on here. Not seriously harmful, but still nasty. Gimme a few more minutes, I should be able to root it out. Hopefully it hasn’t corrupted anything beside your browser, gonna have to reinstall that.”
“Oh. That’s good, I guess?” At least it was salvageable. “Do you...need anything?”
“Uh...” Anti looked over to where Jackie was hovering over his shoulder. “I need you to stop being a fucking helicopter.”
Jackie leaned back, taking a few steps away. “Alright, calm your boots. I’ll just go stand in the corner, Blair Witch style. Don’t mind m—”
His snarky remark was cut off once he felt a vibration in his hoodie pocket. He dug around inside and pulled out his phone, a number he didn’t recognize onscreen. He frowned, then tentatively accepted the call. “Hello?”
For a moment, there was nothing. Until: “Hello! You wouldn’t happen to be Dr. Parker, would you?”
“This is him.” Jackie absolutely did not recognize the faintly posh British voice, yet it somehow sounded familiar. Maybe it reminded him of one of his friends’ voices.
Anti leaned back in the study’s swivel chair. “Hey, you mind taking that outside? Concentration, and all.”
Jackie made an okay sign, then left the study, leaning against the wall in the hallway outside. While he was moving, the person on the other side continued to talk. “Right. Um, my name is Jameson Jackson. I don’t know if he told you about me, but, uh, I got this number from a friend of yours. He told me to call you if we were ever in need of a doctor.”
“Wait, you’re the guy who Volt saw do real magic, right?” The incident had happened about a week and a half ago, and ever since then, Schneep would not stop bringing it up. As to be expected, when you discovered that something you thought was impossible was, in fact, possible. “I saw the whole thing on the news, too. Isn’t your stage name, like, Jazzy, or something like that?”
That prompted a sudden burst of laughter on the other end. “Jazzy!” Jameson repeated lightly. “Maybe I should have used that. No, it’s actually the Jaunty Jackson. Adjectives starting with J are scarce.”
“I see,” Jackie nodded. “So, what’s the problem? I mean, you wouldn’t be calling a number that a superhero gave you and told you it was for a doctor if you didn’t need...well, a doctor.”
“Oh, right, the problem. Well you see—” Jameson suddenly stopped. Jackie could faintly hear another voice on the other end, sounding a bit snappish. Then Jameson’s voice said something, sounding like he’d covered the phone with his hand. Jackie thought it was along the lines of “Shut your mouth and let me help you.” Then, Jameson returned. “Sorry about that. Anyway, the problem is that a friend of mine has had a bit of an...issue, a health issue, for a long time. It hasn’t really been looked at, but I thought that, since today is one of the bad ones, that it was about time we got around to that. You wouldn’t mind, would you?”
“No, of course not.” Jackie was already mentally reviewing the possibilities. “I’m not in my office right now, but can you come over here if I give you my address?”
“Oh. You can’t...come over here?”
“I mean, technically I could. But my spouse is out for once and they’d kill me if I left our daughter without supervision.” Anti didn’t count. He could leave at any minute.
On the other end of the line, there was what sounded like a discussion. A few moments passed. “Alright, where’s your address?” Jameson finally asked. Upon Jackie giving it to him, he said, “Oh good, that’s pretty close. We’ll be there in...hmm, fifteen minutes.”
“Alright. Just ring the doorbell, I’ll answer.”
“Understood. Thank you very much, Dr. Parker.”
“Eh, just call me Jackie. Everyone does. And no problem.”
“Thank you very much, Jackie. We’ll be there soon.” And with that, he hung up.
At that moment, two small children raced past Jackie, screaming. One of them, a taller boy with curly red hair and freckles, attached himself to Jackie’s leg. “Uncle Jackie, help!” he said. “She’s prosecuting me!”
The other child, a younger girl with black hair and eyes, skidded to a halt and whirled around, making the blanket tied around her neck fly in a nice whoosh. “I’m no-ot!” she yelled. “Dad, he stole the treasure of the Bed Plateau! He needs to pay for his crimes! In the Bedroom jail!”
Jackie raised an eyebrow. “Really? Well, I can’t help a thief. But I don’t see any treasure. Are you sure you’re not persecuting him, Michelle?”
Michelle stomped her foot. “It’s in his pocket!”
“No, it’s not! You don’t know that!” The boy said, still holding on to Jackie’s leg.
“Well, Will,” Jackie said patiently. “I guess I have to ask you to...turn out your pockets! Show me you don’t have anything to hide!”
Will froze for a moment, then shoved himself away from Jackie and resumed his sprinting, shouting “You’ll never take me aliiiiiiive!”
“Face justice!” Michelle shouted, running after him.
Jackie shook his head, smiling, then peeked back into the study. Anti was still glued to the computer screen, now frowning. “Hey, how’s it goin’ in here?”
“Worse than I thought it would be,” Anti replied, clicking through files on the desktop. “This is gonna take...a lot longer than I thought. Might be here for a while.”
“Okay. But just to let you know, some people are coming over in a bit under fifteen minutes.”
“Really?” The word was half surprise, half groan. “Who? Some of Rama’s friends? Repair people?”
“Well, remember those two guys who Volt gave my phone number to for if they ever needed help? One of them just called me.”
“The magician and his assistant. Got it. Tell me when they leave.”
Jackie sighed. “You need more than two people to talk to, Anti.”
“Does Will count?” Anti glanced away from the screen for the first time. “How’s he doin’, by the way? Playing nice with Michelle?”
“He just stole her Beanie Baby,” Jackie said. “But I think that’s so Michelle can play defender of the bedroom. Nice of him.”
“Good.” Anti turned back to the computer. “Can you, uh, make sure neither of them get hurt while I work on this?”
“Of course, dude. I’ll shout for you if anything bad happens.”
Fifteen minutes later, the two kids had stopped playing defender of the bedroom and were now spread out on the living room carpet, surrounded by markers and crayons and doodling on pads of paper. Jackie was lying on the sofa, watching. And then the doorbell rang and he went on high alert. “I think that’s the visitors I told you about,” he said to the kids, standing up. “You two want to go somewhere else or stay?”
“We’ll go in the dining room,” Will said, already gathering the drawing materials. “Finish in there. Michelle, are you okay with that or do you want to stay?”
“Uh-huh! It’s hard to draw on carpet anyway. Let’s go.” And the two of them left.
“Don’t forget to listen and ask for me if anything’s wrong! And don’t jump off the table again!” That would very much lead to one of them getting hurt. Jackie sighed. Maybe he should’ve kept them in here, but too late now. He sighed, and made his way over to the front door, swinging it open. “Hello! You must be Mr. Jackson and his friend, right? Come in, come in.”
“Oh! Yes, that’s us, thank you.” The pair of them walked right inside. Even though Schneep had given Jackie descriptions of them after the incident at the theatre, he still took a moment to examine them. The one who’d spoken was dressed in a purple button-down shirt, and had a thick black mustache. The other one was wearing a brown jacket and vest, like he’d stepped out of another era, and was carrying a wooden cane. The latter was leaning heavily on the former (and trying his best to look like he wasn’t), and the moment the two of them were inside they made a beeline for the couch. The one in the jacket immediately sat down with a faint expression of relief.
“Right, well, I’m Jameson, as you probably recognize from my voice,” said the one still standing. “And this is Marvin.”
“Pleasure t’meet ya,” Marvin said, nodding. He held out a hand.
“Nice to meet you too.” Jackie shook the offered hand. “Can I get you anything?”
Both of them shook their heads in unison.
“Alright. So. What’s the problem?”
Marvin scowled. “It’s not a problem, per se.”
“Yes it is,” Jameson muttered.
“Jems, lemme speak f’r myself, thank you.” Marvin turned his attention back to Jackie. “Y’see, when I was a little lad, I got very sick. I recovered, obviously, but not without some...after effects.”
“Ah.” Jackie sat down in the nearest armchair. Meanwhile, Jameson took a seat next to Marvin on the sofa. “Like what?”
Marvin folded his arms. “Bas’clly, me legs weren’t ever the same again. Walking can be...difficult.”
“How so? Does it hurt, or does it just take a lot of effort?”
“The second one. The more I stand and walk, the harder it gets. And It changes ev’ry so often, some days bein’ worse than others. But it’s nothin’ I can’ handle. Jems is just overreactin’.”
“Yes, exactly, I was overreacting when I found you sprawled in the middle of the upstairs hallway, claiming you were just ‘taking a break,’” Jameson drawled.
“Yes, you were.”
“And I was overreacting when you had to call me to help you down the stairs, then stumbled into the front room and immediately sat down without eating breakfast or anything, which is an important part of your daily routine.”
“Yep.”
“And I was overreacting when I had to support you getting into the car, then practically pull you up the path to this front door.”
“Exactly,” Marvin nodded resolutely.
Jameson threw his hands up into the air. “Dr. Parker. Jackie. In your professional opinion, is this a problem?”
Jackie pursed his lips. “Most people would consider it one.”
“Look, I’ve had worse days,” Marvin waved it off. “If I can still walk, it’s fine. And last time we tried to go to one of these doctors, they tried to put me in a wheeled chair, which I def’nitely don’ need.”
“I wasn’t about to say that you do,” Jackie said calmly. “Look, you sound like you’re doing okay for the most part. But if, maybe, I could help you make things a little easier, would you listen?”
Marvin looked over at Jameson, who was giving him a pointed look. “...prob’ly,” he mumbled.
“Alright. Well then, first things first, do you remember what got you sick as a kid? I need to know so I can get a general idea of what’s up.”
“Oh. Yeah, I remember it.”
The moment Marvin told him, Jackie’s mouth dropped open. “You’re sure about that?”
“Yes.” Marvin gave him a confused look. “Why?”
“There hasn’t been a case of that in thirty years.”
“Oh.” Marvin and Jameson exchanged looks again. “Really?”
“Yeah, it’s been basically wiped out. You’re sure that’s what it was?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” Marvin sighed, already sounding exhausted.
“Alright.” Jackie decided to store this information away for a later date. It wasn’t the point right now. But later, he was one hundred percent going to call these two again and talk about how, exactly, that could have happened. “Well, I guess we’re moving on. Now, I guess the number one question is to ask you what you want to be able to do. And if there’s anything that you definitely don’t want to happen. Obviously, you already talked about the wheelchair scenario, but is there anything else?”
Marvin narrowed his eyes, obviously suspicious. “Really? T'at’s it?”
Jackie shrugged. “I mean, I could technically tell you what you should be doing, but a lot of times doctors that just tell don’t really take into account the patient’s wishes. And especially in cases like this, dealing with chronic pain and fatigue, they try their best to fix everything through any means, and they don’t really think about maybe some things can’t be fixed. So, tell me what you want to happen and I’ll give you advice on how to accomplish it.”
Marvin whistled, and put his chin in his hands. “Well...Jems has his shows. I wouldn’ mind bein’ able to...the last show I was backstage for the first time, and they don’ have anyplace to sit there. I was lucky it was a better day, but...you get what I’m gettin’ at, yes?”
The whole visit didn’t take any longer than ten minutes. Ten minutes of just talking, with Marvin listing things that had bothered him and Jackie offering ways to make doing those things just a little bit easier. Jameson watched the whole thing, sort of in awe at what was happening. He hadn’t seen Marvin this open with someone else in...well, in all the time he’d known him. Sure, he was still doing his stubborn thing and insisting he could handle some things that JJ wasn’t sure he actually could, but the fact that he was listening was already an improvement. There must’ve been something about Jackie’s casual attitude and clear willingness to help that was helping him put his guard down.
“Is there anything else?” Jackie finally asked.
“No, I t’ink t’at’s all,” Marvin replied. JJ wasn’t sure he was being honest about that, but there’d already been a lot of sharing, and maybe he was starting to reach his limit. Now the question was just how much of the advice he was actually going to listen to and how much he was going to discard in favor of “I can do it, see?”
“Hey, Jackie, I finally fixed the—oh.” Another man had walked into the front room from deeper into the house, then instantly stopped in his tracks the moment he saw there were still other people in the front room.
“...oh, that’s good to hear,” Jackie said, breaking the long, awkward pause. “Um, Anti, this is Jameson and Marvin. I told you they were coming, remember?”
“Yyyeah,” Anti said slowly. “Hey, where are the kids?”
“In the dining room.”
“I’ll go check on them. Will and I need to leave soon anyway.” He turned and quickly walked right back out.
Jameson stared at the spot he’d been standing, then looked right back at Jackie. “What...who was that?”
“Oh, that was Anti,” Jackie explained. “He’s a friend of mine. Good with computers, so when ours broke, I called him over to see if he could fix it. Apparently he just did.”
“He’s a...bit strange, isn’t he?” Marvin asked. “With t’at unusual name, and the hair and eye color.”
“Well, he dyes his hair, and he has heterochromia, meaning he was born with two differently colored eyes. But Anti isn’t his name.”
“Really?” JJ asked. “Do you mind if I ask what the story is behind that, then? Or what his name is?”
“I mean, your guess is as good as mine,” Jackie shrugged. “I literally don’t think anyone knows what his name actually is. He’s insanely secretive about it, which only leads to more speculation, of course. He calls himself Anti ‘cause the name of his channel is antisepticeye.”
“His what?” Marvin repeated.
“Y’know, his YouTube channel. He does let’s plays and walkthroughs, usually a lot of horror games. Sometimes he’ll throw a comedy bit in there. You should check it out, it’s pretty cool.”
“Maybe we will,” JJ said. Marvin didn’t look so sure.
Anti reentered the front room, the two kids trailing behind him, holding their drawings and the supplies. “Well, we were about to leave,” he said, “but Will and Michelle wanted to show off their artwork.”
“Dad!” Michelle bounced forward, hoisting herself up onto Jackie’s lap. “Look! I chron’cled our adventures today!” She started showing off the pieces of paper, decorated in crayon.
“Wow, sweetie,” Jackie said, impressed. “They look really good! I guess we have more for the archives, don’t we?” That was what it was called when Michelle’s drawings ended up on the fridge.
Michelle beamed, then caught sight of Marvin and Jackie sitting on the sofa. “Oh! These are your new friends, right, Dad?” she asked. “Hi! I’m Michelle. Do you want to see my adventures?”
“Adventures? Why, yes, I would!” JJ said excitedly. “What sort of adventures are they?”
“I’ll show you!” Michelle bounded over to the sofa, managing to squeeze in right in between the two of them. She looked up at Will. “C’mon, don’t just stand there! Show Dad and Uncle Anti what you did too!”
“Oh.” Will shuffled his papers. “Well, I didn’t draw anything we did today. Just a lot of stuff that I thought was cool.”
Anti smiled for the first time that day. “More dinosaurs?”
“Yeah. A couple of them are.” He handed the drawings to Anti. “Like, there’s the one with the brontosaurus family that I really liked. But there’s a lot that are just stuff I saw.”
Anti flipped through the drawings. “Did you draw the shop we saw on the way here? That’s very good! Really looks like it.” His smile faded a bit when he reached the last drawing. “Wait, what’s this one?”
“What one?” Will poked up on tiptoes to see which picture Anti had come to. “Oh, that one. I had a weird dream last night. I woke up and saw someone in my room. We talked for a long time, and then I went back to sleep, and when I woke up he was gone.”
“...huh. Jackie, look at this.”
He passed the last picture over to Jackie, whose brows flew up into the air upon seeing it. “Will,” he said softly. “It wasn’t a nightmare, was it?”
“No, I wasn’t scared.”
“Are you sure? This looks kind of scary.”
“But he wasn’t scary. He was pretty nice, and he looked really happy. Or, I remember him looking happy a lot, I think.”
“Hey, can I see t’at?” Marvin didn’t know why the words had popped out of his mouth. He wasn’t even sure he said them until everyone looked his way.
Will shrugged. “Sure.” He took the drawing back from Jackie, then padded over and handed it to Marvin.
The drawing was of a stick figure drawn in gray marker, with squares standing in for clothes and shoes. Darker gray scribbles were done in marker over the stick figure’s head. On top of the scribbles, two black circle eyes and a curved smile mouth were drawn in crayon. The figure also appeared to be crying, but red crayon had been used for the tears. The background was various strokes and sketches done in black and gray crayon.
JJ leaned over to see the drawing. “That’s...a little unusual,” he said slowly. “But I suppose dreams are a little bit weird.”
“...t’s familiar,” Marvin muttered.
“What?”
“I said...never mind.” Marvin rubbed the back of his neck, where all the hairs had suddenly stood up. “I t’ink...maybe I had a dream like t’is once.” He was sure that wasn’t the answer. This felt almost like a memory he’d forgotten. But when would he have seen something like this? Sure, he’d grown used to seeing strange things ever since he’d moved in with a magician, but nothing even close to this. It was probably just his imagination.
Jameson narrowed his eyes. He wasn’t buying this one bit. But this wasn’t the time to get into it. “We can talk about it later,” he muttered.
Jackie and Anti, who’d been quietly talking among themselves, suddenly broke off. “Well, if you don’t need anything else to be fixed or hacked, I think it’s time for us to go,” Anti said. “Will still has homework.”
“It’s just math.” Will made a face. “I’m ahead in that.”
“But do you want to stop being ahead in that? No. But at least it’s only one worksheet, and maybe we can...I dunno, get something special afterwards? It’s close to the end of the school year, after all.”
Will’s eyes lit up. “Alright, then!” He gathered up his drawings. “Bye Michelle.”
Michelle hopped down and gave Will a quick hug. “Bye, Will! I’m gonna put these in the archives now.” And with a skip, she rushed off to the kitchen.
“Oh hey, we’re still meeting at Schneep’s this Saturday, right?” Anti asked.
“Uh, unless he suddenly gets...‘injured on the job,’ yeah,” Jackie nodded. “In fact I was thinking...we could have even more people meet us there.”
“Really?” Anti folded his arms. “Who?”
Jackie’s eyes flicked over to where JJ and Marvin were still sitting on the couch. “Oh no,” JJ said. “No, we couldn’t possibly—this sounds like it’s your thing, we shouldn’t interfere with that.”
“No, it’s fine,” Jackie shrugged, adjusting his glasses. “It’s always good to meet more people. And besides, Anti needs more friends.”
“Wh—no, I don’t, I’m fine,” Anti insisted.
Jackie sighed. He looked over at JJ. “You know, sometimes I think he likes to be called Anti because he’s antisocial.”
“That wasn’t funny the first fifty times.”
“I mean...it woul’ be nice t’get outta the house,” Marvin said slowly. “Haven’ done t’at in a while.”
“So then, you should come!” Jackie said eagerly. “Get to know Schneep better, he’ll be happy to see you. He’s got a bit of a...shocking personality, though.”
Anti rolled his eyes.
JJ bit his lip, thinking, then shrugged. “Alright. If you insist it wouldn’t be...intrusive in any way, we’ll come.”
“Yes!” Jackie smiled. “I promise you won’t regret it.” He turned to Anti. “And you won’t either. You’ll see.”
“Alright, fine, I’ll consider it,” Anti scowled. “Now if you’ll excuse me, Will has been tugging on my jacket for the last minute, trying to get me to leave.”
Will self-consciously dropped his hand. “You talk a lot,” he said defensively.
“You’ll talk a lot when you’re a grown-up too. But don’t worry, we’re going now.” Anti opened the front door, turning around for one last goodbye. “See you later, Jackie.”
“See you, Anti. Remember: Saturday!”
“Yeah, I got it.” The door swung closed again.”
Jackie turned to JJ and Marvin. “Are you two ready to leave now too? Or would you like to stay some more?”
Marvin pushed to his feet, leaning on his cane. “I t’ink I’m ready to go now. Ah...thank you...for your help, doctor.”
“Jackie, remember. And it was no problem, I was glad to help. Need anything else?”
“No, I’m fine,” Marvin said.
JJ stood up. “Thank you for having us, Jackie.”
“You know, I’m still going to say no problem.” A smile quirked at the edge of Jackie’s mouth. “I’ll text you to remind you about the plan for Saturday. Give you the address. Oh, and lemme get the door for you right now.” Jackie reopened the door that Anti had previously closed.
“Thanks,” JJ said. “C’mon, Marvin. Goodbye, Jackie!”
“Goodbye you two! See you later!”
The moment the door had closed behind them and they were once again outside, JJ turned to Marvin. “What do you think? Good visit?”
Marvin considered this. “It was...certainly more helpful than I t’ought it woul’ be.” He paused. “Jems, would you...mind if I leaned on you for a bit?”
JJ smiled. “Not at all, Marvin.”

The Magnus Archives ‘A Matter of Perspective’ (S03E26) Analysis
Melanie takes the reins for this outing, and we get a statement that has been hinted at since early season 3. After that, there are particularly fun revelations, then … well, then. The good times just can’t last on this show, can they?
Come on in to hear what I thought about ‘A Matter of Perspective.’
It’s interesting to contrast Melanie’s presentation style from Jon and Martin’s. She very much still has an entertainer’s training and instincts. She’s the only one who cues herself and gives a clap like she expects cutting and editing after. And yet she seems as gripped by the personality of the statement as they are. It’s hard to tell where her instinct for entertainment ends and the Archivist begins, but suffice to say she’s blurring the line. She’s not as deep into it as Martin and Jon, but she feels it.
The statement itself is a different perspective on the Daedalus Station, this time from the elusive Jan Kilbride, who has been referenced several times this season. He’s clearly someone touched by the Vast, and was picked for the mission quite specifically by ‘Mr Fairchild’, likely Simon Fairchild. So we’ve had the person picked by the Lukases (totally isolated, saw the Earth vanish), and the Fairchilds (got sent so far out from the Earth he perceived the Vast). That probably means that Manuela was chosen by the People’s Church of the Divine Host. One wonders what sort of experiment they requested of her.
I love that we got to see Simon Fairchild again, even if only for a moment. Of all the potential human monsters, I have a soft spot for this guy, who seems to me to be the horrific TMA version of a wacky wizard. He seems to focus on people who were already drawn to the Vast, and then he gives them far more of it than he could ever want. He’s always struck me as the sort of character who knows perfectly well that most people he throws at the Vast end up dead, but he can’t see why that should be a bad thing. He’s giving them what they want. It might not come in a palatable form, but they still did want it, at least at the beginning. Of all the parties in TMA, he often seems the most jovial in his perspective.
We know that he’s trying to find the Vast, and has been collecting pieces of it, experiences of its various facets. I have to wonder, then, if Kilbride wasn’t his greatest success. What Kilbride perceived between the stars, far out beyond our own solar system, seems as close as we’ve come to the whole of one of the great old ones. Something so vast his mind couldn’t even comprehend it, couldn’t pick out its edges or define it in any way besides its Vastness. Was this merely another aspect of the Vast, or did he touch the being itself? Could he touch the being itself?
I feel like he hit the nail on the head when he stated that we cannot truly perceive the great old ones, and they can’t really perceive us on any meaningful level. Their aspects interact with us, but more like we’d interact with ants or other very small insects we notice. We crush them or brush them aside or sometimes just move them away. Some of them we take a liking to for a brief moment, and we’re gentle with them, but we forget them soon. That’s the best analogy to the great old ones I can think of. The Vast is, in many ways, that enormous incomprehensibility made manifest.
Once the statement was done, it was also interesting to hear Melanie’s reaction to it. She seems startled that it’s done, but less so because she seems to be waking up from the sort of out-of-body experience that Jon and Martin go through. If anything, she seems more like season 1 Jon (and I think there’s a reason those two clash so often, as they are remarkably similar in some ways), wanting to dismiss Kilbride’s experiences, particularly as he didn’t describe ever returning to the Daedalus. She acknowledges the reality of the supernatural, yes, but without good evidence she has a hard time believing the statement.
Then Basira arrives, and their snarky chats are things I need a lot more of in my life. The two actresses have great chemistry, and through them we got some wonderful little revelations about the other characters and how they’re perceived by Melanie and Basira.
The first thing that happened was the confirmation that Martin’s little crush on Jon is not only canon, but has probably been noticed by everyone except Jon. Basira and Melanie both agree that Martin got rather hostile when he found out Jon was confiding in them rather than him, which is fantastic. I’ve read that sort of thing into so many shows, only to have them deny it later. To have it outright confirmed by the other characters that Martin has it bad for Jon, and that his crush explains a lot of his actions? Yeah, that’s awesome.
And the awesome kept coming with the following revelation, second-hand from Georgie, that Jon is asexual. Apparently not aromantic, as he and Georgie did date for a time, but asexual. It’s fantastic to see representations of various sexualities so seamlessly integrated into the show, and for each of them to fit the characters so well. As soon as they got confirmed, it felt like an ‘of course’ moment. Of course Tim is bisexual. Of course Martin is in love with Jon. Of course Jon is asexual. It just works.
I don’t know if they planned on dropping these revelations during Pride, but it’s really fun nonetheless. I feel like this is the best way to do LGBT representation: by simply integrating it when it seems appropriate to the character and the situation. By not making it some ‘very special episode’. We got confirmation about Martin and found out more about Jon just through some office gossip. It makes my heart happy (and, yes, the Dinghy shipper in me more than a bit pleased too). Like, seriously. Fucking solid job, TMA.
And then.
And then, Elias.
Fuck me, I wasn’t anticipating that poor Melanie’s dad was at Ivy Meadows, the nursing home taken over by John Amhurst and torn apart by the plague of insects and disease that accompanied him in ‘Taken Ill’. That remains one of the nastier episodes of TMA ever, and to know that Melanie lost a relative to that, and didn’t even know is horrible. Even more horrible was how she found out how her grandfather died, by Elias inflicting the information and possibly even some of the feelings he went through upon her.
His desire to maintain control over those around him, to maintain a true stranglehold on the Institute, is horrifying in its scope and ruthlessness. And we now know he can take information and plant it into the memories of those who weren’t there. Turning the truth into a weapon continues to be his cruelest trick, and I hate to think what he might do to Tim or to Martin if they tried to turn on him.
One thing’s for certain, I don’t think this is going to work out the way he wants it to. He thinks that this will break Melanie, but she has a core of rage that I think will only get stoked by this. She may well act cowed, but her mind is still her own. Elias can hear words and see actions, but so far as we can tell, he isn’t a mind-reader. So Melanie’s can and will still plan. She might not be able to directly research now, but that doesn’t stop her from plotting. If he wanted to convince her that he didn’t deserve to die, this sure as hell wasn’t the way. I think it’s fairly certain that Melanie will kill Elias, but the repercussions of that action … yeah, I worry.
Because Elias does use the truth as a weapon, so I have a tendency to believe him. He obfuscates, but he rarely outright lies to people. He gets too much satisfaction out of hurting them with the truth as he sees it. Do I think everyone will drop dead if he dies? No. But do I worry that whatever it is that is piggy-backing on Elias like the Archivist piggy-backs on Jon will jump to Melanie when she does it? Yes. And then Melanie would become Elias. Maybe not instantly, but slowly the woman we know would fade, and Miss King would take her place.
Conclusions
An interesting statement (it’s always fascinating when this series really leans into the cosmic part of cosmic horror) from someone I feel like will hold significance in the future. You don’t bring up a character several times and then drop him after a single statement.
But really, the real meat of this episode came after. We got confirmation that every single male character in the series is a flavor of queer, that Basira and Melanie’s friendship is excellent and good, and that Elias is 100% the scariest thing on this podcast right now. Hell of an ending to a good episode all around. This third season is of ridiculous quality, seriously.
And while so much horror is happening, and Elias is absolutely the worst, I am so very pleased with the level of queer representation we just got. It fits with all the characters, it came out when it felt appropriate for it to come out, and it made my Pride Month feel just a bit more awesome. Rock on, my very queer podcast. Rock the fuck on.

13x04 watching notes
TBH that is my exact strategy when I am tired and want to go home.
-
it's 2am and I just woke up after a lengthy power nap/full REM cycle because going to bed at 9 is for cool kids so uh I'm watching the episode but also it's 2am. I didn't do it deliberately but here I aaaam.
-
Getting right in there with Dean telling the the truth in the recap - is he really gonna spill it all to a therapist? experts have been awaiting it ever since 1x10 so
-
"experts" being me, I am an independent judiciary body
-
*grief grief grief* *Jack angst*
Oh yeah Cas recap because Cas is back
Should I even write expectations for this episode? I'm a bit late since I already started watching :P Blah blah Glynn blah blah probably going to be fine, blah blah swear I saw someone say she's "never written Cas before" but uh we just had recaps from 12x19 so I mean who wrote that?
-
this guy has a weird reaction to the dead wife coming back
like, oh, okay, that happened. guess we say hello
-
Is this the "understated" reaction when Cas comes back
-
Oh we're doing regular old stabbing? Is this a shapeshifter thing or a revenge curse thing? Is it all going to be romantic couples? because lol pls don't
Also the recap did expressly list off 2 dead moms and a dead crowley along with a dead Cas who is also a brother and father to active main characters
-
Sam like "hey"
Dean like >.> Are you trying to be friends after I yelled at you?
-
Sam being remarkably cool about Dean's netflix and holy oil suggestion
-
Dean being extremely less cool about Sam's suggestion
-
They're sort of recapping the argument from the end of last episode for us, which is good because it wasn't in the recap unless it was but it's 2am and my brain randomly discarded that
-
oh my god it was
okay these are not meta notes
-
Sam's trying to play at grief counsellor and it's super not working because he's using it as their fight. You don't get in a snappy comeback about "oh so you want to move on"
Dean looks extremely murderously done with all this because How Dare etc
-
"For me"
God damn puppy dog eyes.
-
awww Jack's watching The Clone Wars. Because he is a wee new baby and this is his star wars generation I guess.
mittensmorgul pffft. (I have never seen Clone Wars so I have no idea what that even means)
elizabethrobertajones It's the adventures *drum roll* of Darth Vader when he was still Anakin, before he went evil Ashoka or however you spell it is his Padawan
mittensmorgul aahhh
elizabethrobertajones Jack's identifying with her and not with the pre-evil but still getting the Imperial March music layered over his bad decisions Anakin the entire show is 10000 episodes just an endless "we can't make him go evil because that happens in the movie but we can tease basically everything up to that" stuff
mittensmorgul At least he's iffy about Anakin...
elizabethrobertajones yeah good choice, basically it's also brand new he found the non-dinosaur version of Star Wars of the previous generation :P and it's less political than the prequels I think The Clone Wars is generally well-liked whereas nerd rage dictates the Prequels are the Worst and I guess it's Too Soon to get into the newer Star Wars films since we don't know how the arcs of the new kids pay off
[side note: I haven't watched it per se because there's tons of it but I've been in the same room as my brother watching it, and seen a lot of pop culture general knowledge that I've sponged up so I could be wrong about some little details as I mostly know how it's been described to me]
-
Also Jack's identifying with the female character, because fuck off toxic masculinity, she seems awesome and he has no idea he isn't “”supposed”” to. She also is one of the aliens with the huge tentacle things on her head so idk if it's a good idea for him to get too into this without meeting more of the general population - Sam's probably right
-
Uhoh, Jack kinda does a snarky eyebrow about "you're the good guys" - Did Sam fail to sell it or is Jack really just starting to have trust issues now he's watching TV with black or white morality (literally a dark side and a light side - hrm.) and given his experience of the Winchesters yelling their very shades of grey takes on him at each other
-
Well he hasn't learned to be cagey about overhearing that
-
*blink blink blink* *sigh*
-
"You're *using* me"
Oh no, poor Jack :(
-
He also implicitly trusts Dean's judgement more than Sam's bonding, despite how Sam has made all the movements towards him. As people have been meta'ing, Dean's being extremely honest and Jack's setting his markers by that, even if it's horrific to the point of deciding he has to be evil because Dean thinks so.
-
Sam says he, Dean and CAS closed the rift - hey, Cas got knocked out by Lucifer in round 1 of that as a distraction and Crowley helped you close it.
They probably have not explained Crowley to him at all.
-
At least Sam is being honest now about what happened with the rift, and that it's their mom
and Jack speaks the language of lost moms. Now HE looks at SAM with sympathy.
Probably also explains Dean...
I think Jack is defaulting back to thinking about Dean way more than Sam's opinion of him, although perhaps he may like Sam more now he was upfront and some of why "so uh yeah I was KINDA using you" is on the table
-
Jack was wearing a darker henley, which tbh with Dean wearing them again all of a sudden makes it blurry to me if this is not about his Dean-alignment more than colour coding his feelings on being evil (like how Amara's nail polish started off black and got right down to light grey by the end of the season). Now he's swapped to being the Cas Intern.
Ow.
-
and aww all the fake IDs. There's a lot to take in about these guys :P
-
Oh no Dean said "loony toons" on the episode which may or may not be an exact use of 8x08 for Cas, for Jack. Jack's a bit more of a trial run about wanting to BE a hunter since he is mostly just curious. Also amused Dean has to rephrase for Jack because he actually knows he's a week old or so, and he's not going to enjoy repeating himself or explaining, while he always found it kind of funny to just say a whole string of incomprehensible pop culture at Cas without slowing for a breath.
Not funny now, is it Dean?
-
Wait have they never actually fought a revenant aka, idk, it sounds like a naturally occurring zombie? They mention it from time to time but as far as I remember they've never actually called zombies revenants because they're one of the shows where they just embrace the horror movie tradition about zombies completely, so it always seemed like revenants were something slightly different, at least, in the sense that they get named like a different category. And they just lumped them in with ghosts here, as restless spirits but i guess this time *with* the body?
-
Dean tells Jack to sit, like he was a dog being kept in the car.
-
Unlike dogs he knows how to work the door handle.
-
Jack no don't touch the blood
oh good Dean stopped him
-
Aw no he's still wearing the dark henley under the tan jacket. That's awful :D
-
Pfft Dean's like immediately "it's a revenant" because they know what those are really well after a billion years hunting and we've never watched them ever name anything on screen a revenant before with that vocab, and they're really sticking with not crossing them over with zombies exactly...
I mean Dean said he wasn't a revenant after he got back from hell and I think they've chattered about them before
if I check this on superwiki it's way too early for there to be a spoilery "so it's not a revenant" line from later in this episode highlighted when I hit the search :P
Oh good, I'm glad I'm right.
A revenant is a visible ghost or animated corpse that returns to terrorize the living, usually people it knew in life. Unlike the zombie, a revenant is not under another person's control, and has returned from the grave on its own for a specific and often personal purpose. In 4.01 Lazarus Rising, Bobby accuses Dean of being a shapeshifter or a revenant. Dean proves he's neither by cutting himself with a silver knife. In 8.06 Southern Comfort Garth takes a call from a hunter asking how to deal with a revenant. Garth tells him to get a casket and some silver spikes, then nail it in and bury it. He also warns that getting bit will hurt like hell, but will not turn you into one.
-
I wonder if those were revenants in 4x07 and I only ask because it was like almost exactly an anniversary to it in OUR time :P It's still May or maybe June for them in-show
-
Okay Dean left Jack to dig but Sam chased after Dean rather than it being a synchronised Winchester ditching of Jack :P
-
Little on the nose about "You're starting to sound like dad!" :P
"Is that a bad thing" Oh Dean, no.
Fortunately the theme of this season is fathers so I suspect you're gonna have to deal with this at some point or another
-
Sam like "the drill sergent thing won't work on Jack" to the sound of Jack merrily digging in the background because Dean told him to
-
I really hope that wasn't an on-set hazing that they actually left him to dig :P
-
I love my smol gravedigger son
-
I love how Jack did all the digging anyway because Sam's still not actually dirty and Jack's still standing in the hole
-
Lol not a revenant, well there's a surprise. I'm glad I double-checked the lore anyway because I have the time to so I'm not going to spend the rest of the episode like "wait what IS the difference between them and zombies anyway and why have we never seen one?"
-
I mean it's not gonna be a ghost either, we're 9 minutes in and they're salting and burning because it makes more sense to Dean to do that than not to - I guess a precaution for accidentally angering her spirit for digging her up...?? :P I mean no he still thinks she's a ghost but I mean maybe it's not a total waste of salt.
-
OH NO Jack don't ask about if Kelly is a ghost, that's very painful.
-
OH NO I thought he was going to ask about Cas but instead Dean said "what gets burned, stays dead" and that hurts a lot
-
FORTUNATELY for me the viewer as opposed to Dean the grieving ball of angst over there, I can go check up on Cas immediately.
-
He doesn't seem to be doing too good but more in an existential way since he's at least up and walking about.
I like how Jack woke him up but it's probably got to be like a baby bird has to hatch itself.
-
He's using up all his "hellos" on the void. Save one for Dean.
-
You know if the MotW is imitating dead loved ones I have to say I am not exactly looking forward to this :P I didn't say earlier but the cold open gave me 11x13 vibes and honestly I don't want a repeat of the stress of waiting for Cas to show up for Dean but it not happening... Okay, belatedly 10 minutes in, there's a baseline expectation for the episode that that doesn’t happen. Then again I forgot to check the names at the bottom of the screen except for being happy to see Misha's there so they could spring anyone on us
-
Throw a real curveball in just like bring some random dead loved one from the first 3 seasons back :P
-
Or waste Jim Beaver's season 13 appearance on it and he's never even in the AU with Mary :P
-
Anyway Jack is waiting patiently in the car.
(or, well, not so patiently.. He's starting to get an idea of how the job works, and that Dean is usually repeatedly wrong about everything as he throws spaghetti at the wall about the case...)
-
Anyway, dead son, dead wife, so that's quite a neutral combination.
-
Asking what they had in common probably means the grief counsellor, but Dean says that and then we go back to Cas right when I've been musing on the loved ones coming back for them thing and honestly it's like Dean's words are just summoning Cas right now.
....... 8x08 used flashbacks to summon Amelia for Sam, just saying
-
I hope Cas finds Billie and hopefully a bar immediately and they can become drinking buddies.
I don't even think she's in this one?
-
I like those assertive footsteps though. "I have no clue where I am, I am just going to walk in this direction like I mean it"
-
Lol they're in Madison i was KIDDING about bringing back a dead loved one from like season 2 or something. Oh well, if it's her, it's her. I'm still bitter about Sarah because I only just re-watched it with my mum the other day.
I should probably stop bringing up Sam's dead or lost girlfriends because it's just bumming me out on his behalf.
-
Teehee "he's not our intern"
well
-
"I asked you to keep an eye on him" "I can see him"
It's amazing Dean didn't volunteer just to get away from Jack
-
Sort of weird existing in a post That Declaration world where I can just canonically know Dean staring at Jack is making him think sad things about Cas without any fear whatsoever

Oh boy killer grief counsellor probably. "Mia is promising to provide the catharsis I've been craving for so long" and then she gets ripped to shreds by her son.
I feel a little bad reading this woman's diary, but the first line is about not "getting over" it and learning to live with it. Blah blah heal and rebuild yourself, blah blah whole again but never the same
-
"Shrinks... Snake oil for the mind." "Or how healthy people deal" Pfft
-
Jack being baffled by the issues of customer vs hot dog guy without understanding it's an ancient war fought across the world
-
Dean equates "catharsis" to "happy ending" - I can't tell if he's innuendo-ing or accidentally revealing too much and being mournful about it.
-
The house has a great fence - its parts are all misaligned. Very visually uncomfortable :D
-
Awww someone said "hello" to Jack and Jack was like !!!!! another person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO! :D :D :D
how can you possibly think he's bad
-
Anyway I was about to type that Dean hates it because of course he feels the most vulnerable talking about his feelings all the time, either for performing Dean reasons about needing to keep up a facade of strength (LET YOURSELF CRY, MAN) or because feelings for Cas being inconvenient to him
-
UHoh Dean grabbed Jack's shoulder - he did it to Mick to be threatening last year in a Glynn episode, while Mick was wearing a long tan coat. And called Jack "Spock" which is not really accurate characterisation at all. Jack's pretty much nothing but a bundle of emotions, he's just not used to using them around other people. Now CAS on the other hand.....
-
I do like that Mia decided to see them because Jack is sweet and was upfront about losing his mother and he's just adorable.
They bluff their way in by losing a collective mother, Sam once again lining them up as family and siblings.
Play it cool, man. You’ll scare Jack off.
-
I'm starting to think we haven't seen Cas between scenes for a while because Dean hasn't said anything angsty enough
-
But idk if we trust her or not. She has a lot of alcohol stashed on that shelf.
-
Jack wisely doesn't sit on the sofa with them all.
-
"Oh well Mom was great and now she's dead so what's the deal with catharsis" Dean, no.
-
Sam continues with what should be the pre-arranged plan of spill closed truths like well we don't journal but our dad did
also I am so annoyed that confirms they don't keep hunter journals??? grarghgh
Google has ruined this generation
And Dean makes fun of journaling as being for little girls, even though Sam literally just said that about John. Last year in 12x04 he said he was a 13 year old girl when trying to text Mary so he's actually regressed even further backwards at losing her again >.>
-
"I'm good with death, closure, the whole friggin bottle of Jack"
it's a shame he would never put a bumper sticker on Baby, because that...
-
Oh boy we're still having this fight. "My brother's delusional..." yeah oh dear.
Is this going to be one of those things where I basically just want to transcribe the whole thing?
Dean calls out Sam for not being able to even admit that Mary's gone so he hasn't even moved past denial - which to be fair, Sam IS right she's not dead and that they DO have a means of getting her back and everything... Was thinking about how last season was a "Dean is right about everything" season and this time is clearly a Sam is right about everything one... but of course both only to a certain degree, and in this case it's much blurrier about approach and how these fights are going because of course Sam's not being a perfect Saint Sammy that Dean is being unfairly awful to in the entirety of what's going on here. Sam IS struggling and resisting confronting things in his own way and adopting Jack as a pet project is definitely a form of avoidance or at least wanting to get concrete closure on Mary's death before he will fully mourn. Which makes Sam and Dean existing in the same place terrible because they're only in the same physical location
anyway Dean's about to yell about how hard this all is for him too so I better unpause once I'm holding a stuffed toy again
"At least you had a relationship with mom" WAHEY
I mean that was awful but I'm delighted Sam yelled that because there's ALWAYS something else going on underneath Sam, and I've been waiting for more Sam and Mary angst, since I spent so much time on them last season and at least obliquely referred to this... Talked a lot about how hard Sam had it to reconnect with Mary... That Words with Friends scene from 12x07 was basically floating along waiting to come back up at some point or another, but it took Sam a long time to reach out to Mary personally, and really only in 12x14 (hi Berens, I just accept you and Glynn are brain twins these days) did he pick a side in THAT fight and picked Mary. And we said it was to get closer to Mary but he made it all about the BMoL instead of just confronting that he wanted a relationship with her, and the BMoL ended up just keeping them apart ANYWAY and tl;dr am I going to have to write the reverse version of A World Without Monsters from Sam's POV or can we just agree that my subtext in that fic was exactly what just bubbled up here? :P
-
I just spent the entire length of that paragraph trying to work out when I wrote the meta about how Sam felt about Mary and it took me until that last point to realise it was not a meta, it was a fic where I roundly abused poor Sam for the sake of making that point.
-
Dean's like hey therapy is great! *eyebrows at Jack* *snarky smile at the doc*
-
Sam is like *anger-drinks water*
*refuses to cry as well*
BLOOD
(CRY, DAMMIT, SAM.)
-
That sign was down earlier
is this the poor receptionist?
-
Or... ew, shifter gunk?
-
LOL Dean just takes a flask out of his pocket in the middle of their appointment
Mia asks him to look at Jack, which is the last thing he wants to do, but blah blah meta about 12x22 and how he needs to "see" Jack, and she's pointing out that Jack is terrified which is exactly what Dean needs to see about him
subtle
She actually points out his anger issues as well so I think Dean's getting homework whether he has to write it in a journal or not :P
-
*suddenly everyone is pointing guns*
Hey if she's a a shapeshifter why does she live in an all-white house when shifting makes bloody goo stains everywhere?
Or her assistant, I guess. They haven't had eyes on him :P
-
Ooh that explains why the guy was not surprised to see his wife. Well, kind of surprised, but not nearly horrified enough.
-
Sadly if she is telling the truth that means someone else is using her method to get their guard down to kill them for kicks...
-
Also shades of 9x13 because they had that spa where the monster would use their unique skills to help, but then of course another of their kind - a sibling - had to go and ruin it...
-
Oh hey, it's Cas! I guess the time ran out on a good transition from Dean, so we go over here on "I'm telling you the truth"
-
Lol it's another Cas... Who ever would have expected it. /Misha being the worst at spoilers
Or something with a very silly voice. "Friendly neighbourhood cosmic entity" that sounds like that and won't show its face is either someone pranking Cas or about to go very bad.
Cas is like "do I look like that" "I'm getting a new coat as soon as I'm alive again"
-
if this thing is The Empty itself it's probably kinda crazy after eons being nothing
-
Oh NO Cas's face when he says "every angel that ever died is here?" because oh boy did you put like 90% of them in here yourself. There's about 3 faces you'd be happy to see again of the entire lot. Hey, it's never too late to give Cas that guilt all over again that made him stay in Purgatory out of penance.
-
I mean among other things but it's probably worth mentioning there are a whole bunch of lil purgatory parallels here in the loosest sense of it being a hostile other realm, and the way Cas is basically Dean in Purgatory in here.
-
Cas has been back for like 5 minutes of screen time and I want to protect him and wrap him in blankets
there's no need to be mean, The Empty, just because you got woken up... I say... at nearly 4am... because I woke up when I didn't want to...
you know what, The Empty's being mean to Cas probably kind of justifiably, even if it's a dick.
-
pretty clever to use a shifter as the motw in this episode too
-
oh, poor Cas is horrified to think Sam and Dean made some sort of deal for him
he says "I don't know" which is ironically what Jack's saying all the time
like father like son
-
LEAVE HIM ALONE
-
last episode we had James keeping memories of Missouri, who he had cut out of his life, in a box. Now Mia has a box still dedicated to "Buddy" her asshole ex who hurt her, and good on her for leaving him. He's another shifter, we're halfway through the episode, so we probably need to find him now, and also have a good 10 minutes more of whatever's going on with Cas. :P
She also owns up to have done much worse things in her past with Buddy, although presumably not killing people, and probably because they were super toxic together, and she had the sense to get out and try and help people now.
-
Jack said "I'll come with" which is adorable. He's learning to be like them :D
-
Wheeeee he's riding shotgun! Guess Dean couldn't make him stay in the back without Sam around.
-
Sam's plan's don't always work out :< Oh no, Dean, you still don't have much faith in Sam's ability to handle himself.
Fortunately this does seem to be a mostly Sam is right season, and I think of all the overwhelming reasons why you don't trust Jack, not trusting Sam to trust Jack is probably relatively low on the list underneath the Cas stuff or you'd have just yelled that at Sam the other day instead.
-
Uh, why do I feel like the shifter just phoned Sam and somewhere between here and there something went really wrong?
-
Oh god I'm going to have to watch the face peeling scene with my own two eyes at 4 in the morning, aren't I?
-
Meanwhile Mia explains why her catharsis works to Sam - I hope he doesn't sneak back at the end of the episode for a chat with "Mary" because that would be AWFUL.
-
Oh it was that other guy - wait, also, Sam was already doing this before Dean phoned? Seems like he doesn't trust Dean's methods either :P
-
CAAAAAAAAAS
-
I love how Cas is so practical like, "will you pay me $200 to stop annoying you and go away?"
UHOH guess we're getting right into it. "You don't want to go back" "Sam and Dean need me" You don't want to be needed, you want to be wanted!
Wheeee text on that and also wheee over on the other side of the story last week Dean finally made the i/we distinction about Cas. Now we just need to get them alive and well and actually dealing with crap
-
oh boy I shouldn't have paused there except that i suppose for the sake of meta-ing remotely clearly it was probably a good idea not to watch straight through from that into the empty accusing Cas of having feeeeelings and "I know *what* you hate, I know *who* you love, what you fear." especially since Cas hates being needed but not wanted and uh Dean made the i/we distinction at long last over on the other side of the story so um does Cas fear something related to all that?
I mean to be fair Cas has been through this exact thing before with "he's in love... with humanity" / "all of it for one man" which was an "i/we" distinction of planetary proportions :P Of course he just mutely responded to it there because he was sad Dean was dead, and had no idea Metatron had accused him of being in love in any form, so that was Metatron's private joke to himself.
-
The Empty telling Cas there's "nothing for him back there" also makes like next to no sense if you take season 12's family read at surface value and has the bonus of being, I'm pretty sure, a line Elrond tells Arwen in the movie when he's trying to make her leave Aragorn and go across the waters to the undying lands.
-
I know they're just starting with it in a long selection of terrible things that happened to Cas but starting with his grace being stolen really sucks :P
Especially when I am still daily haunted by his season 9 arc.
See above: Metatron and "in love with humanity"
-
More miscommunication of the "didn't bother to call you" variety (I hope this doesn't blow up in Sam's face, although of course trying to nurture Jack is slow mo doing that, especially if he and Dean are meant to swap stances on the kid >.>)
The intern pulls Mia aside for a chat.
OH NO Jack wants to see his mom. OH NO OH NO
I will be so upset if that happens...
Oh nooooooo
he's crying.
Who can say no?
This is extremely awful.
I guess Glynn didn't want to let Kelly go like that. I'm glad if Mia was going to do this for anyone it would be for Jack and not Sam and Dean's cycles of nonsense.
I REALLY hope the bad shifter doesn't burst in here and try to/actually kill Mia right now. Jack doesn't need that in his life.
In the mean time, Mia better friggin HUG Jack even if it's technically hollow and he would know it.
Also did she do the whole disgusting skin thing or can she transform on the spot?
-
HUGS FOR THE NOUGAT BOY
-
They look so much alike :')
Oh no Jack you probably don't feel anything because they made you horribly depressed within 2 days. Also you have angel grace. Historically not good for helping you feel things. You're sweet and cry about your mom and feel bad about stuff in other ways so I think you have a heart no matter what, like Cas does.
Mia gets some catharsis from getting to hug Jack and reassure him that even if he's a monster and what makes him in-human isn't letting him emote how he's supposed to, he can still be good. She's got a monster soul, after all. There's a lot of good monsters out there.
-
I was about to say lol is this now Sam not on the phone because he actually is a shifter now mostly to tease past!Me but then they panned down and Dean's unconscious, which makes sense because they probably still want to show us Dean tearing his own face off at some point and honestly I'd rather just get it over and done with because if it's still to come after this D:
"that was too friggin easy" though - Dean getting overwhelmed in another fight. He's really not had a great rate of success... He only beat the wraith last episode with Patience's warnings, and other than that it's been a terrible track record even if he fights back as hard as he can when he gets jumped
-
shifter!Dean2 better not go in and try and kill Jack
-
Not gonna have much luck, I just don't want to watch it :P
-
MORE HUGS FOR JACK
-
WAIT NO YOU CAN'T HUG HIM AND THEN HAVE HIM KNOCKED OUT IN THE SAME SCENE
I TYPE NOT LOOKING AT THE SCREEN BECAUSE DEAN'S RIPPING HIS FACE OFF
-
Shifters are gross
-
Oh no don't call Cas a disappointment, The Empty, we're so proud of him!
-
He just told him to "save yourself" which is probably going to have the direct opposite result to what he wants while I'd hope Cas goes and does exactly that
"I'm already saved" blah blah Cas insults The Empty and I love him, "because somehow I'm awake, and I'll stay awake" - exactly how many times can I use "i love him" as punctuation in one sentence?
-
Where is that gif of the woman banging the pots and pans about not getting any sleep so they're not getting any sleep
that's something I ought to have saved :P
Someone almost certainly has made a post already.
-
Cas is the literal embodiment of "fight me"
-
This Buddy guy is a total douche. He says in this world everyone uses everyone. Which is a theme of the season I guess - Cas feeling used, Jack feeling used... He's the villain with the most negative version of the theme in his mouth right now
-
Dean's got to pep talk Jack if he wants to save the day or Jack goes and saves the daaay - I'd prefer Jack does it
Look, Mia's getting hurt and she was kind to you and in the most literal use of character mirroring in 1000 miles is an actual stand in for your mom!
-
Ooh is Jack gonna save Sam instead? Dean just pep-talked him specifically about how Sam believed in him which was having to start to admit that Sam, well, believes in Jack. Which Dean couldn't even accept last episode when he was saying that he was just using Jack
-
Yay thanks Jack, kinda figured Sam wouldn't get shot :P Jack's powers are fascinating - he's definitely bending time... from Sam and Dean's perspectives last time they were caught in it they were at least sort of aware of things, but Jack pretty much works in bullet time.
-
I also like how he kind of had a ridiculous "NooooO" because he's been watching Star Wars. I don't know if there's a "Nooooo" in the Clone Wars but I mean have you met a Star Wars
-
Anyway good riddance douchey ex with extra douchey powers.
-
I love the shot of them all standing together and Jack has that benign :3 face on again. He's really insufferably cute.
-
Ewww the Bunker sink is gross. I assume that's from decades of lying in disrepair and that those are stains Dean could not get out.
-
I guess Jack's getting a glass of water and Dean's midnight snacking. I have no other explanation for this encounter despite the fact it could theoretically happen at literally any point of the clock :P
-
Oh gosh, is he going to give Jack a beer
-
Yay, actions helped
-
Aw, the other beer is for Sam. Guess this doesn't have to be midnight after all. I thought he might have a longer chat with Jack
-
oops is this the beginning of the slide in the other direction? Sam's been undermined and even though he was proven right to Dean's eyes and Dean's had to grudgingly hand Jack the win in the case and admit it to Sam, Sam's like, "I guess"
And they don't know what Jack asked for from Mia because patient confidentiality! Argh!
Oh no Sam don't start wondering if Dean is right.
AAAH they're actually talking about things really well. Dean's like "don't say that" - even if he can't believe it he doesn't want to HURT Sam and rob him of his hope... Sometimes yelling about things does make them get better in the long run once you get it out there >.>
And Dean deputises to Sam for the feelings. And admits how HE has been feeling, because he believes in nothing, because all his faith has been taken away because there was only one thing he ever ended up believing in no i didn't see the next scene transition before i hit pause what are you talking about
-
Again, though, if this is Cas back in the mortal plane after annoying his way back to life (worrisome, since he's 2 episodes out of reuniting with them and where's Billie? Oh gosh is Billie back for reals too if he IS back? Whaaaat.) then that's another awfully convenient moment to transition scenes from. Dean finally using "i" instead of "we" about Cas and making it abundantly clear that he and sam didn't feel the same about that, was, whether the direct reason or just narrative karma they chose to bestow on Dean, what made Jack reach out to Cas. Now he admits out loud that he doesn't believe in anything with the implication when you look at Dean vs belief that this is about Cas, and we go over to Cas definitely at least in an improved situation.
Goddammit that's the new coat which means he didn't come back naked but wait! Lizzy's hope wasn't the same as everyone else's at all! Although that was a shallow moment of defeat :P Mwa ha ha, I was hoping Cas would come back and be gifted a whole new Cas get up and lo and behold unless he chose to manifest these clothes onto himself and there's noooo ulterior motive at all going on here (uh... probably not going to get more than 1 per show and we used it up on Mary :P) but he's confused and waking up and the last time we saw him he was in the clothes he died in... So of course if he's being sent back to earth then someone else chose the battle armour he'd be returned in. One Cas, fit for purpose.
Also, realising once he sat up more it was the new coat makes me pretty sure he is back on Earth.
Also he looks happy to be here and I think he can tell :P
Same, Cas. Same.
#13x04#my stuff#season 13 spoilers#in which I am awake at 5:30am and the Empty is probably pissed at me

Memories ~ A Case of Christmas Part 1
Summary: Spending Christmas with Bobby and the brothers on a ghost hunt proves difficult when Dean and Sam start fighting and you get caught in the middle.
Dean x Reader, Sam, Bobby
Warniings: Grumpy Dean, Canon violence, Christmas fluff
A/N: This is a Supernatural series that I have been working on. The "Memories" are meant to provide a backstory between the reader and the Winchesters, so they will span over a few years. I did change a few things about the timeline, but I tried to stick as much as possible to the events of the show. I appreciate all feedback! Thanks a bunch!

Memories Masterlist
Sam had almost given up on Dean coming back to the motel that night. Dean had stormed out hours ago and Sam was sure he ended up at the bar down the street. For that matter, he was probably in some girl’s bed by now.
Sam was almost asleep when he heard his cell ringing. He opened one eye to check the caller ID, surprised to see Bobby's cell number. “Hi, Bobby. What’s going on?” Sam asked, a little groggy.
“I got a little ghost case up here in the mountains if you and Dean can spare some time.” Bobby started.
“Aren’t you up there with Y/N and her dad?” Sam asked, confused. He had talked to you a few days before and you told him about going to spend Christmas with your dad and Bobby at some cabin in the woods that your dad had borrowed from his partner for a few days.
“Sort of, but it’s just me and Y/N now.” Bobby said, watching you on the porch reading a book through the kitchen window. “Her dad just left to go to work. She said she’s fine, but I can tell she’s pretty disappointed. I thought maybe you guys could come work this case and stay here at the cabin for a couple of days. Cheering people up is more your department.” Bobby explained and Sam chuckled.
“I don’t know how much help we are going to be. Dean’s pretty peeved right now and you know what that means.”
“Yeah, I know. It would mean a lot though. I’ll have a talk with him if I have to.”
“Okay, Bobby. I’ll see what I can do.”
“Thanks, Sam.”
The following day, you were bringing a few pieces of wood to start a fire in the fireplace when you heard a familiar rumble. You looked up to see the impala pull into the driveway, her black shimmer in strong contrast to the white snow all over the ground. You set the wood down, a smile on your face at the sight of your best friend climbing out of the passenger seat. As you walked up and told both of them hello, Sam reached down and hugged you tight.
“What are you guys doing here?”
“Well, we found out about this ghost hunt in the town just south of here and thought we’d come by.” Sam told you, trying to sound like the whole thing was accidental. You glanced back at the cabin and saw Bobby roll out onto the porch.
“Bobby called you.” You said plainly. Sam nodded.
“He did, but there really is a ghost.” He told you, blushing a little.
“I’m glad you’re here.” You admitted. “Come on inside.”
The brothers followed you inside, grabbing the wood you had been carrying earlier. Sam worked on getting a fire started while Dean took their bags into the bedrooms. You glanced over at Bobby and mouthed a ‘Thank you’ to him and you were certain you saw him smile before he turned back to the papers he was reading.
You sat down on the floor near where Sam was stoking the flames in the fireplace. “So, tell me about this case.”
Sam began explaining how there were a lot of mysterious deaths all surrounding this one family. It all began when the husband died about a month back. Ever since then, anyone male that came near the house ended up dead. It had started with the priest, who offered grief counseling. Next it was the neighbor who helped the widow with cutting up some limbs in the yard. The most recent was a plumber who had been hired to fix the pipes under the kitchen sink.
Every once in a while, Sam’s explanation would be interrupted by some snarky remark from Dean, who had come back out and was sitting at the kitchen table. You could feel the hostility he had directed toward Sam. Each time Dean said anything, Sam just looked down. He was trying his best not to fight with Dean while they were here. After the third comment, Bobby reached over and pushed Dean’s shoulder to get his attention and whispered to him to knock it off.
“Sounds like a jealous husband that doesn’t want to take a chance his wife will find someone new.” You volunteered.
“That’s what I thought too.” Sam told you.
“Well, let’s go talk to the wife and find out where hubby is buried. We can salt and burn the jerk and be on our way.” Dean said.
“Actually, I was going to take Y/N with me to do that. People react better to her anyway.” Sam said. He had seen people warm up to you instantly on several hunts that you had gone on with them.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Dean asked, suddenly defensive.
“Come on, Dean. You’re angry. You’ve been angry for days.” Sam told him. You could hear the tension in Sam’s voice. He was beginning to lose patience with his brother’s sour demeanor.
“Whatever.” Dean mumbled, throwing his hand up and started down the hall.
“Dean…” You called out to him. He stopped at the doorway.
“It’s fine. Just go.” He told you without turning around. His voice not as hostile as it had been with Sam. He wasn’t angry at you, after all. You glanced back at Sam, who gestured for you to follow him out to the car. Sam walked out of the front door and Dean marched down the hall to the bedroom.
“Just ignore him, Kiddo.” You heard Bobby tell you. You walked over to him.
“I’m trying.” You answered, feeling defeated. You hated to see them fighting like that after everything they had been through lately. “Do you want anything from town?” You asked, putting your hand on his shoulder.
“No, I think we have everything here.” Bobby answered, reaching across his chest to pat your hand with his own.
As you climbed in the car, Sam turned and faced you. "I'm sorry about Dean." He said.
"What's going on with you two?"
"I don't know. He's been like that for days. I get the feeling like he still thinks all of this is my fault." Sam admitted.
"I'm sure he doesn't think that, Sam." You tried to sound encouraging.
"I hope your right." He said, without much conviction. "Hey, could you hang on to something for me? Just keep it safe?"
"Of course." You told him. Sam reached in his jacket pocket and put the Samulet in your open hand. "Is this...?"
"Dean's...yeah." Sam replied. He explained the trip they took through Heaven and how Dean had thrown it away at the hotel after. "I guess I am just hoping that one day, he will wish he hadn't done that."
"I'm sure he will. I know this means a lot to both of you."
"Well, until then, I don't want him to know I took it out of the trash and kept it. It would only make things worse." Sam told you. You nodded in understanding.
"I'll hang on to it until then." You told him, closing your fist around it. Sam smiled in thanks and the two of you drove off to talk with the wife.
Several hours later, you walked back in the cabin with Sam. Bobby had just set dinner down on the table and you both sat down with him and Dean.
“So, did you get rid of the Ghost of Christmas past?” Dean asked, still a little snide.
“Not exactly.” You started, “Seems that her husband was cremated, but there was one very personal item that went to his best friend, Bart; A leather banded watch that he apparently never would replace since it was a wedding present from his father.”
“We found out that a few of the guys he used to work with, including Bart will be at the bar tonight. We are going to go back into town and try and catch them there.” Sam added.
“You coming with us tonight?” You asked Dean.
“You’ll have to stop being a Scrooge.” Bobby popped off to him, giving you and Sam the clue that Dean had been sour the entire time the two of you had been gone. Dean glared over at Bobby.
“You don’t have any place to tell me or Sam what to do.” He told Bobby and got up from the table and marched out the door. You got up to follow him, but Bobby put his hand on your arm.
“It’s ok.”
“No its not, Bobby.” You said forcefully, and followed Dean.
“What’s gotten into you?” You asked, more concerned than irritated as you stepped out onto the porch.
“Nothing.” Dean said gruffly as he continued to walk away. You ran down the steps and grabbed his arm to turn him back around to face you.
“It’s not nothing. You and Sam have been bickering since you got here, before that according to Sam. You’re angry and impatient. Everyone can see that something is going on. Now what is it?” You pleaded with him.
“Look, me and Sam fight once in a while. It’s no big deal.” He began, but you shook your head.
“No big deal?” You repeated back to him in disbelief. “If it was no big deal, then why are you being such a jerk?”
“He lied, Y/N. Don’t you get that. He’s been lying to me and hiding things for months.” Dean snapped, a little harsher than he intended.
“Oh, and you never do?” You snapped back. Dean didn’t say anything, your tone surprising him. “And what about Bobby? What are you snapping at him for?”
“It doesn’t matter.” He said under his breath and started away from you again.
“You’re going to say yes.” You whispered as the realization of what he was doing caught up to you. Dean stopped, but didn’t turn around. His shoulders sank.
“Are you going to try and stop me too?” He asked, cynically.
“Would it do any good?” You threw back at him. Dean paused, and you saw him shake his head.
“Probably not.” He admitted calmly, once again turning to face you. You saw the anger gone, replaced with something else. Fear maybe, hurt probably. You walked the five steps until you were standing in front of him again. He just watched, his eyes searching yours.
“Do I like the idea? Of course not. I don’t like how any of this is going down, but we are all facing the apocalypse whether we like it or not. I don’t know what the right thing is, but you pushing everyone away like this isn’t going to help anything.”
“I’m not….” Dean started, but stopped at the look on your face.
“You can’t make them hate you. All you are going to accomplish is to make them think you hate them. Is that really what you want?” You asked tenderly. Dean sighed.
“No." He answered honestly. "I’m just so angry all the time. I can’t stop it. It seems like everything I’ve done in the last few years has just blown up into this. Every time I try to fix it, I only end up making things worse. I don’t know what to do anymore.” Dean admitted to you, running his hand through his hair in frustration.
It took you a minute to regain your thoughts. Dean had caught you completely off guard by what he had said. You had never seen this side of him before, although Sam had told you about some of the things that had happened in the last few years, Dean never would say a word. He never wanted you to look at him like he was evil, like he looked at himself.
“You and Sam carry so much guilt around with you. You have to find some way to let go of it once in a while."
“I don’t know how anymore.”
"Try to have a little fun once in a while, get out of your own head. All of this is going to end up eating you alive if you don’t. You'll forget what you were fighting for in the first place.” You offered.
Dean chuckled at the thought. The idea of fun was so foreign to him now. He had been diving head first into every hunt he could to keep himself from thinking too much about the choices him and Sam had to make.
“You and Sam will find a way to beat this. I believe in you. It’s going to be okay.” You added when he didn't say anything else, Without realizing what you were doing, you reached out, taking his hand in yours. Dean glanced down at your hand in his and smiled back at you.
“Just keep telling me that, will you?” Dean asked, pulling you to him. When he did, he just held you for a moment, not wanting to let go.
The closeness between the two of you at that moment surprised you a little. Although you had been hunting on and off with the Winchesters since the Vampire hunt a few years ago, it had always been Sam that you were close with. You and Dean got along fine, but he was always “Sam’s brother” and you were just “Sam’s friend”. Whatever door was opened between you, you silently hoped that it stayed that way.
Later that evening, the three of you sat at the bar in town when Bart and his friends came into the bar.
“Look, he has it on his wrist.” Sam said, pointing to the watch you had seen the deceased husband wearing in the pictures at the house.
“Ok, let’s go get it.” Dean said, planning on fighting all of his friends if need be. Sam put his hand on Dean’s arm when he started to get up.
“There is a easier way to get it, if you have some patience.” You began, glancing over at the group of single guys, your eyebrow raised.
“You don’t have to do that.” Sam protested.
“Might be fun. If it doesn’t work, Dean can always bash him over the head.” You teased a little, glancing over your shoulder at Dean. Dean just rolled his eyes, a little grin on his face. “Be right back.”
You got up and walked over to the bar, leaning over the counter right next to where the guys were sitting. Dean and Sam watched as Bart noticed you, slapping his friend on the chest and pointing you out to him.
You ordered three beers, and shot a quick smile at Bart while you waited for the bartender to bring you your drinks. That was all he needed. Bart slid down to the stool next to where you were standing and stuck out his hand to you.
“Are you here alone?” He asked, and you shook your head.
“No, I’m here with my brothers. We are driving through to our parent’s house and just wanted to get out of the car for a little while.” You told him in a sweet voice.
“I’m glad you decided to stop here.” Bart told you, his eyes glancing quickly down your legs and back up, pausing on your chest.
“Me too.” You said with a little giggle. You grabbed the beers from the bartender and started walking back to the table. You could feel Bart watching you and you threw a smile back over your shoulder at him.
“Here you go, brothers.” You teased. Sam and Dean both looked up at you confused. “Well, what was I supposed to say? You are my bodyguard hunter friends?”
“I don’t like this.” Dean told you.
“Its fine. Just keep his friends busy.” You said just before Bart and his friends reached the table. He introduced his two friends as Joe and Lonnie.
“So, where do your mom and dad live?” Bart asked, trying to make conversation.
“Mom and Dad? What the hell....?” Dean told him, confused why that would make him ask that question.
“You’ll have to excuse my eldest brother.” You interrupted, kicking Dean under the table. “Dean has been a little uptight about our mom getting remarried. He doesn't like to refer to the new guy as dad.” You told Bart, quickly trying to recover.
Bart seemed to believe you and the three of them sat down at the table. Sam engaged them in conversation about football, giving you an opportunity to flirt with Bart. He seemed like a pretty nice guy, and he wasn’t bad looking either. This was going to be more fun for you than you wanted to admit. After a few minutes, you offered to get shots. You walked back up to the bartender.
“I need to get shots for the table over there, but I have a special request if you would be open to it.” You began.
“I’m listening.” The bartender said, wiping his hands off on a towel.
“There’s a hundred dollar tip in it for you if you fill my shot glass with water and let them think it’s Patron.” You said, holding up a hundred dollar bill. The bartender glanced back at the table and shrugged.
“You got a deal.” He said, putting your money in his pocket.
You took a tray of shots back to the table, all Jack except for your “fake” Patron. A round of cheers went up as you all clinked the glasses and downed the shots of alcohol. You made sure to close your eyes and tighten the muscles in your throat to make it look like your shot had a bite to it and none of them was the wiser.
As the night went on, Bart got drunker, as did his friends. Bart started doing what you had been waiting for, slipping his hand under the edge of your shirt and letting it linger on your lower back. You pretended to have the watch caught in your hair a couple of times before turning his wrist in your hands.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
“I’m just going to slide this off so you can keep doing what you are doing and it won’t get caught in my hair.” You said, looking up at him through your eyelashes.
“I don’t want to lose it. It belonged to my friend.” He slurred a little.
“Just put it in your pocket.” You suggested. He nodded, letting you undo the strap and slipping it in his jeans pocket.
When you asked Bart to dance with you, his friends challenged Sam and Dean to a pool game. Even though Sam and Dean had walked off to try and win some money playing pool with Bart's friends, they protectively never took their eyes off of you.
As the two of you walked out to the dance floor, you asked him to hold your money in his pocket and he agreed. You made sure to slide it in the same pocket as the watch.
After the dance, you led Bart back to the bar and fed him some more shots, still drinking the “fake” Patron. Within an hour, he was so drunk he could barely stand. He swayed a little, leaning back against the bar and you put yourself in front of him, your legs between his knees.
You reached for his front pocket and he looked at you confused. “What are you doing?” He asked.
“I just want to get my cash to put some money in the jukebox.” You said sweetly.
When you pulled out your money, you took the watch with it and quickly put it in your own jeans pocket. You took out your phone and text Sam “5 min, then walked over to the jukebox. You pretended to pick a song, glancing back to see Bart lay his head down on the bar. When you were sure he wasn't looking, you snuck out the back door. As you turned and headed across the lot to the impala, you came face to face with the ghost.
