Full moon shenanigans
Fluff
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
"Can't believe Reggie is coming to his first moon!" Sirius slung his arms around the smaller brother. "Piss off." Regulus immediately shoved Sirius right back off.
"Oh! He needs a nickname!" "I absolutely do not. I swear to Merlin-" James laughed as Sirius started coming up with ideas, all terrible if you ask Reg. "Beans! Like toe beans! I'm padfoot and you can be Bea-"
Regulus slapped a hand over his brother's mouth. "I am only coming because I don't despise Remus and you're down one member." Though they all knew they could get Reg to keep coming even after Pete returned.
"I'm touched, Reg." Remus smirked. "Oh save it for my brother."
The two had been closer than the others knew, so when they found out Reg was also an animagus they had to get him to come to full moons.
They were walking out into a forest clearing, warded by at least a dozen spells to keep people, especially muggles, out. They stopped just at the edge of the clearing, moon slowly rising in the distance. Sirius turned to his little brother. "You and Remus are friends, so it's safe to assume Moony won't mind you. But we'll take it slow alright?"
Everyone could tell Remus was a bit more anxious than usual, with adding a new person and all. But if anyone could handle it, it was Reg.
Eventually Remus made his way a bit further from the others for the transformation. Sirius couldn't contain his excitement though, a night with his best friend, his boyfriend, and his brother? What more could he want? He changed into Padfoot and jumped around Regulus. Reg rolled his eyes and changed, still glaring at his brother even as a cat.
James just smiled at two of his favorite people and changed to join them. Prongs walked over to Beans and bowed down, inviting him to sit on his back. Beans gently climbed on top of him and sat down, lightly holding on with his claws. They heard Moony making his way over and Pads ran to greet him.
As usual they played around, tackling each other and nipping playfully. Padfoot brought Moony over to Prongs and Beans. Moony sniffed the small black cat, nudging him lightly with his nose. Beans' tail flicked a little and he lightly nudged back. Padfoot's tail was wagging, watching the scene.
Beans hopped down and weaved through Moony's legs, batting at his tail when he got to it. Prongs snorted. Even as a cat he has to taunt.
It seemed Padfoot thought he had waited long enough for his turn, so he darted towards the cat, sending two black blurs running around the clearing. Prongs stepped up next to Moony, who would definitely roll his eyes if he could. Prongs nudged the wolf with his antler, telling him to chase Pads. And so he did.
Moony ran after the black dog and Prongs rescued the black cat while they were distracted. Prongs brought Beans over to sit by some trees.
Prongs laid on the ground and Beans curled into him, lightly licking him a few times and purring softly.
Moony and Padfoot spent the moon running around and playing (more like Pads was playing and Moony was tolerating), while Prongs and Beans sat together, taking in the peaceful sounds of the forest.
In the morning, they brought Remus back to the house, where Sirius took care of him from there, releasing James and Regulus to get some some sleep.
James led a sleepy Regulus to his bedroom, planning on tucking him in and leaving. But Reg had other plans. A sleepy hand pulled James under the covers with him, curling into a ball just like he did as a cat. "Adorable," James whispered as he kissed into dark curls. Regulus was already fast asleep and James soon joined him.

Soft touch
(James Potter / Regulus Black | 487 words)
For @jegulus-microfic prompt: forest
“Show me,” Regulus demanded when James told him about being an animagi. From the boy’s expression, James couldn't make out what he was thinking. They walked slowly towards the forbidden forest and James was more nervous with each step they took. No one ever saw him in his stag form except the Marauders. He told himself it didn't matter if Regulus won't like Prongs. This can be the only time he sees him. It's not like James is lying in the dorms as a stag. He is not small and cuddly like Padfoot or Wormtail.
When they stopped at the clearing close to the edge of the forest James turns around. Regulus is watching him expectantly and James feels the knot tighten in his chest. Okay, well, so he does care he realised. He cares a lot. Because Prongs is part of James and if Regulus…
"Okay. Let's do this." James says because he wants to get it over as soon as possible.
The second he transforms the other boy takes a quick step back. Prongs lowers his head in disappointment. He should have expected this. He sits down folding his long legs below him. Sometimes James wishes his animagus was also something soft as a dog, so he could snuggle with his friends and play in the dorm. But it always was the case with him. Too much as an animagus, too much as human.
He doesn’t mind taking care of the others during full moons, it’s his role in their little pack. And he took the role gladly. He just wished that once he was the one someone would be soft with.
Prongs lifts his head at the sound of steps. Regulus is slowly approaching him with wide eyes. He crouches in front of him, and his expression softens. “You are beautiful.” he breathes out. And James wants to run around with happiness.
Regulus reaches for him, but he stops a few inches from Prongs’ face. “Can I?” he asks, and James presses his face to the palm of Regulus’ hand.
Regulus chuckles and keeps swiping his hand over his head, scratching behind his ears and antlers. It feels good, so good. James forgets that he should stay still and flops himself on a side so Regulus can also pet his neck, back or belly.
“Okay, careful.” Regulus says because Prongs’ antlers missed him only by a few inches. “Hold on.” Regulus sits beside him and keeps petting him. Prongs is making happy noises.
Regulus frowns for a moment watching the stag in front of him. “You don't get a lot of pets, do you?”
Prongs rests his head on Regulus’ legs sadly nudging him with his snout so the boy would resume petting. He wants to get as much as possible of these soft touches.
“Okay, okay.” Regulus laughs. “It's their loss, you know? You have really soft fur and frankly, you are absolutely cute.”

Remus Lupin couldn't stop staring at the picture of James' family, framed and displayed on his bedside table. More specifically, Remus couldn't stop staring at Fleamont Potter's face.
A long, harsh scar ran from the man's forehead right down to his chin, slashing across his face. Two more scars, much smaller, cut through his eye and the other through his lip.
"We don't like magicking away our scraps and scars, Dad says he likes to look at them cause they remind him of the story behind them."
Remus whirled around, seeing James sitting at the edge of his bed with small smile.
"They used to always magick away my injuries so that I wouldn't be in pain, and then when I reached seven, they asked me if I still wanted them to do that or if I wanted it healed the muggle way, so it's not like the injury never happened. When they asked, back then, I couldn't understand why I'd ever want to stay in pain, to keep something that hurt. But, then I met you. You wore your scars, and I learnt that they're a part of you, a part of your past and things you've overcame. And that's bravery. And I finally understood why my parent's keep their scars when they could so easily get rid of them... I was such a hyper, playful kid that I'd accidently injure my dad a lot when we were playing, and I hated having to look at those scars, having to look at pain I gave my dad. But now, when I look at this picture, when I look at his face, I see the story behind it. I see me and him playing quidditch, him teaching me how to do a flip on a broom. Thanks for that, Moony."
James lifted up his t-shirt, showing a jagged scar he'd gotten when Remus's wolf had thrown him into a cabinet on a full moon. Remus hadn't spoken to him since James refused to get it magicked away.
"It reminds me of us. Of me and you messing about, of what friends do for each other, of how strong and brave you are and how much I want to learn even an inch of your strength."
"How painful is it?"
"That's not the point, Moony."
"How painful is it?"
"A little. But it'll heal, because everything heals."
Remus turned back to the picture, to Fleamont's face.
"I want to help you not be in pain."
James smiled, "Well I'm not smoking, so give me a distraction instead."
"Like what?"
James hummed in thought before dragging Remus to sit on the bed with him, "I wrote a new poem for Regulus. I read the Lily one for Padfoot, but they won't let me show them ones for Regulus."
"Fine, show me."
James grinned, digging out his notebook and opening it to the right page.
"Why are there so many hearts, Prongs?"
"They're green and red, get it? Wormtail let me borrow those jelly pens!"
"It's gel pens."
"Do you like it?"
"It's great, how could they not fall in love with you."
James grinned, tackling Remus and the two fell off the bed with a laugh.
Remus touched the jagged scar on James' stomach.
"Thank you, James."

James doodled snitches and his crush' initials on exam (god help me this is cute), i think he'd totally keep a diary! Would carry it in a bag with books and be in general pretty careless even trough he adorns pages with SB + JP and waxes poetics abt him. Maybe Sirius would keep a diary, too? Probably charmed so the pages would seem empty, hidden in dorm etc. Also I think Sirius would write poetry abt James and would take awhile to show him even after they got together :D
A typical morning diary entry by James Potter:
Dear Diary, today, Sirius decided to part his hair on the left side instead of the right, so when I saw him, I nearly tripped down the stairs. He caught my arm before I could, because he's wonderful <3 I really should ask what product he uses in his hair, because I swear it's getting thicker and smoother every time I touch it.
We have Potions first thing, and since Slughorn lets us partner up each time, I get to see Sirius pull his hair back and then let it down again. He'll whinge the whole time, but he always smirks at me while he does it. Besides, his voice is so nice that him complaining never bothers me. Perish the thought. Sirius has the voice of an angel. Sirius Potter... I bet he'd sound particularly good saying his new name. Okay Diary, I admit that I haven't asked him out yet, so our marriage is in the distance, but I'm confident it'll happen one day. I mean, let's be honest: he has a special smile for me. He wouldn't have a me-smile if we weren't on the same wavelength.
Off to classes for now,
James of the future James and Sirius Potter Household <3
And of course the entire page is covered in hearts and Sirius's initials and little doodles of Padfoot and Prongs playing together.
His nighttime entries are more poetic because he's tired enough to really let go and be romantic. He stuffs it in his bag with all his regular textbooks and doesn't worry about it.
Sirius's diary on the other hand, is charmed out the wazoo. Nobody knows what's in it, and they don't have a hope of finding out unless he says so. He may or may not have been perfecting his romantic poetry over the years. He's quite proud of the latest ones, but gods, no, James don't ever read it, it's embarrassing! James finds all of his poems to be the best thing in the world, but Sirius was very hesitant to show them because they're so damn mushy. It's impossible to read one and not know how head over heels he is for James. It's like having his heart on display, and even when it's James he's showing it to, it feels too vulnerable.
(If James thought he could get away with it, he'd write all of Sirius's poems in calligraphy and draw art around them and frame them. When they get a house, he would be all too happy to plaster their walls with the poems)

everything after (r.l.)
Pairing: remus x fem!reader
Summary: Everyone knows you and Remus are in love with each other, but neither of you are willing to believe that, and hijinks ensue. On one fateful night, his curse threatens to rip you from him, and you're both forced to confront your feelings for each other.
Word Count: 4.7k
Warnings: crack, angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, descriptions of injuries, best friends to lovers, a LOT of sirius, barely any james/peter
a/n: Someone pointed out my url could be confused for a hp reference, so I felt compelled to write this fic solely so people who thought that wouldn't be disappointed to find zero hp works, and this somehow ended up being the longest thing I've ever written. I've literally never written for the marauders or any other character in the franchise before, so I'm sorry for any inaccuracies!
Extras: mood board
Also, JKR sucks.
“You’re an absolute arse, Sirius Black!” You yelled after the dark-haired boy who was quickly disappearing from your sight, his cackles bouncing off of the castle walls.
You glared at the space he had occupied, pushing back the strands of hair that had fallen in your face in your pursuit of the marauder.
You felt Remus’ arm curl around you in comfort, a pitying smile gracing his face. “Sorry, love, promise I’ll help you get him back.”
“I don’t want to get him back. I want to kill him.”
“We’ve all wanted that at some point.” Remus gave your shoulder a squeeze as he guided you back to the Gryffindor common room, unknowingly sending shivers through your entire body. Even when you were pissed at Sirius, Remus was still able to make you melt with a simple touch.
He glanced down at you, chuckling at how pink your cheeks were. “Y/N, you’ve really got to calm down. You’ve literally gone red in the face,” he said, pinching your cheeks. You swatted his hands away, trying to play it off as annoyance.
Remus was a little concerned you were going to go through with your threat as you were still fuming by the time the two of you reached your bedroom door. He gently grabbed your arms, forcing you to meet his amber eyes. “Y/N, please promise me you won’t get yourself in trouble because of Padfoot’s idiocy.”
You snorted, “There’s no need to look out for me, Rem. I wouldn’t stoop to his level. And if I did, I wouldn’t get caught.” You held his gaze for a moment longer until he released you with a sigh. He’d probably end up helping you with whatever you had planned anyway, regardless of the consequences. Maybe it was because you were so persuasive, or maybe he just wanted an excuse to spend more time with you.
He swung your door open, cringing at the sight before him. You knelt down to greet Winnie, patting him on the head in an effort to soothe his whimpers. His tail was between his legs, and he kept butting his head against you as a cry for help.
You scowled, “Look at the state of him, Rem. Poor Winnie, he’s miserable.”
The tall boy sat cross-legged next to you, picking up the small dog and nuzzling him against his face. Your heart felt like it was bursting at how adorable they looked, and it was almost enough for you to forgive Sirius entirely. Almost.
“Aw, Y/N,” Remus beamed at you, “he’s so cute, though. Can’t you let this one go?”
“No, I absolutely cannot let this one go. Yes, he’s cute, but he’s a dog, Remus. Winnie clearly prefers being an owl.”
“Thought you liked dogs,” Remus teased, “except Padfoot now, I s’pose.”
“You just talking about yourself, then, Moony?”
Remus cocked his head to the side, a small smile making its way onto his face. “Are you saying you like me?”
A mangled laugh tumbled out of your mouth, surprising the both of you. Your eyes widened as you desperately tried to recover from your blunder. “No! Don’t be daft, Rem. I hate the whole lot of you. You, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs. You’re all terrible, and—and I don’t know what the bloody hell I’m on about—just help me with Winnie!”
Remus had a strange look on his face, and you were petrified that he’d finally caught on to your true feelings. But with a shrug, Remus put Winnie down and adopted an indifferent expression. He kept his eyes trained on the pup. “Alright, Winnie, let’s get your feathers back, yeah?”
~
Several hours later, Winnie was happily flying around your room once more, and Remus had left, declaring he needed to do some studying in the library. Instead of exiting the common room, though, he took the steps up to the boys’ dormitories. He needed time and space to think over the events that had unfolded. Alas, the universe had other plans.
“Moony! Where’ve you been?” Sirius asked, looking up from the charm he was working on.
Remus shot the boy an accusatory glare as he flopped onto his bed, “I’ve been busy cleaning up the mess you made. Thanks a lot for that, mate.”
“Oh, please, you should be thanking me. You got to spend time with Y/N, didn’t you?” The dark-haired boy chucked his wand aside, scooting to the side of his bed closest to Remus’. An impish grin took over his face. “How’d it go? Any progress?”
Remus glared at his friend. He knew Sirius had the best intentions, but he was the worst wingman in the world. Remus had never intended on telling him—or anyone, really—about his feelings for you.
He wasn’t anything like James who loudly announced his love for Lily at every opportunity, or Sirius who shamelessly flirted with every sentient being in the room. Still, everyone pieced together his crush on you pretty quickly. Remus was typically level-headed and good at reading others, but he seemed to lose all sense when it came to you.
~
In fourth year, he’d noticed you were getting close with a Ravenclaw boy that you shared Potions class with. He’d gotten increasingly irritated at the way the boy always seemed to stop to talk to you in the hallways. Lily had asked you if you were interested, and even though you’d shrugged it off, Remus couldn’t get his mind off of it. It’d gotten to the point where Remus asked Sirius to cover for him one day, as he planned to skip class.
Sirius had gasped in mock horror, “Wait, you’re telling me you want to skip History of Magic? Who are you and what have you done with Moony?”
“Sirius, please! I don’t have time for this, will you please just tell the professor I’m sick if he notices I’m not there?”
“Well, you’re clearly not, so where are you really going? Ooh, can I go with you?”
Remus groaned, “No! It’s a personal thing.”
Sirius smirked as the realization dawned on him. “You mean a Y/N thing? You’re going to go spy on her and that Ravenclaw boy in the astronomy tower, aren’t you?” Remus didn’t respond, but that was confirmation enough for Sirius. “Alright, I’ve got you, mate. I’m telling you, though, you’d better make a move soon. I’d never go for her, obviously, but Y/N has more eyes on her than you think.”
That really didn’t make Remus feel any better.
~
While Remus did find the two of you huddled close at the astronomy tower, he also clearly heard you telling the other boy you weren’t interested. That was two years ago. Since then, Remus hadn’t worried about anyone else approaching you. Mostly because you seemed uninterested in dating anyone at all, unfortunately for him.
Remus slung his arm over his face. “No, Sirius, no progress. There will never be any progress. Because I’m never going to make a move. Because she doesn’t feel that way about me.”
Sirius slapped his forehead; he couldn’t understand how his best friend could be so stupid sometimes. How could Remus miss the way you practically had hearts in your eyes every time you looked at him? How you hung on every word he said, like he was sharing an intimate secret and not just reciting a simple textbook passage? Sirius would find it endearing if it wasn’t so sickening. He wasn’t the only one who was aware of your mutual pining—the whole bloody castle knew—but he was the one most frequently burdened with your moping.
~
“Padfoot, did you see that? Why did he linger like that?” You had asked with wide eyes, clutching onto Sirius’ arm.
He sighed, “I don’t know, doll, probably because he’s cold.”
You shoved his shoulder, causing him to nearly fall off his seat. You ignored his complaining and went back to watching Remus as he made his way out of the Great Hall with the other newly-appointed fifth year prefects. “He hugged me longer than usual, I’m sure of it. I could’ve sworn he sniffed my hair too.”
Sirius leaned in and gave your head a loud sniff. “Huh, it does smell nice. What is that, vanilla?” He grabbed a fistful of hair. “Did you switch conditioners because it kind of feels softer too—”
“Sirius, focus!” You hissed, slapping his hand away.
“Bloody hell, what do you want me to say, Y/N? You never believe me anyway when I tell you he’s in love with you too.”
“That’s because it’s speculation. I’m asking for your opinion on my objective observations.” You rolled your eyes like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Sirius gave your hand a pat. “Look, all I know is he never bothers to hug anyone else goodbye when he leaves the room. Is that a good enough observation for you, doll?”
You smiled a little at the thought. He was right—Remus only ever hugged you. Still, it wasn’t enough justification for you to actually tell him how you felt.
You turned back to Sirius, who had already resumed stuffing Sunday roast in his face. “Are you ever going to stop calling me that? Makes me feel like one of your hook ups.”
“What? ‘Doll’? I never call anyone else that.”
“I guess, but I think it makes Remus uncomfortable.”
“Does it make you uncomfortable?”
“No.”
“Then the nickname stays,” he said, mouth full of meat.
You threw a napkin at him in disgust. “You’re no help at all, Pads.”
“Then quit asking for help, doll.” He wiped his face and slung an arm around you, leaning in closer. “Now, about that conditioner—”
“Ugh!”
~
Sirius shook the memory away. It was just one of many times you’d gone to him for help with Remus. You were both so helpless, it drove him mad. Even so, he tried his best to nudge you towards each other whenever he could.
He studied Remus’ defeated figure splayed out on the bed. “So, what’re you going to do now, then?”
Remus removed his arm from his face, revealing the ever-present frown he had when talking about his chances with you. “What I’ve always done. Sit back and make sure she’s happy.”
~
True to his word, Remus continued to treat you like he always had, and you did the same. That was, until the night everything changed.
During full moons, you typically stayed away and trusted the rest of the marauders to look out for Remus. You’d only join them at the Shrieking Shack after everything had settled, and you were on healing duty in case anyone was hurt. Lily was the only one completely in the dark about Remus’ condition; it was the one thing James kept from her to ensure her safety. When you first found out, Remus had begged you to stay away, but you insisted they needed the help. He finally conceded when you promised not to become an Animagus and remain at the castle until you were sure he’d turned back.
On this particular night, you mistimed your entrance by a few seconds. You had dozed off while studying for the next day’s Charms exam, and woke up to complete darkness. Your torch had blown out, and the only light came from the moon beams filtering through the window by your desk. In your sleepy haze, you’d neglected to check for the marauders’ signal, instead fearing that you were already too late to mend any serious injuries.
You groggily threw a robe over your clothes, reignited your torch, and crept out of your room without alerting any of your roommates. You scurried along the path you’d memorized like the back of your hand, every step pushing you further into consciousness. You picked up your pace as you grew increasingly worried for your friends, expertly maneuvering around the Whomping Willow.
When you finally burst into the Shack, you realized you had made a grave mistake. All four pairs of animal eyes were locked on you, three of them wide with terror. The remaining pair belonged to the hulking werewolf sneering at you, and time seemed to slow as several things dawned on you.
One, this was the first time you’d seen Remus like this.
Two, this was the first time you were completely terrified of him.
And three, in your haste, you’d forgotten your wand.
Before anyone could react, he lunged at you.
You let out an ear-piercing scream as the enormous beast knocked you on your back, its foul breath stinging your nose as it snarled at your face just inches below it. You normally prided yourself in thinking on your feet, but the weight of this creature on you had you paralyzed with fear. You squeezed your eyes shut, unable to do anything but pray that it would be over quickly.
You screamed again as you felt a sharp pain on your leg, and suddenly the wolf was being hauled off of you.
You took a few ragged breaths before building up the courage to open your eyes. First, you saw Remus collapsing onto the floor, Peter and James rushing to his side. Then, you registered Sirius hurtling towards you.
“Christ, doll, are you alright? What the hell are you doing here?” He frantically helped you into a sitting position, moving you against a wall. His eyes were wide with panic as they landed on your leg. “Holy fucking shit, Y/N.”
Your eyes were glazed over, looking past Sirius’ shoulder over at Remus, who was beginning to get up. You felt a dull pain in your head where it connected with the floor when you were tackled. “I think I might be a little concussed, Pads,” you mumbled.
Sirius was saying something you weren’t listening to, your eyes locked on Remus. He seemed a little dazed, but otherwise unharmed. As he rose to his feet, he finally became aware of your presence. His face twisted in confusion for a millisecond before switching to horror as he realized what must’ve happened.
You didn’t break eye contact as you watched him crumple to his knees next to you.
You shot him a lopsided grin. “Hey, Remmy. You okay?”
He looked down at himself, feeling for the pain he usually felt when transforming. Oddly, he felt none. He looked back at you incredulously. “Am I okay? Y/N, what’re you doing here? Look at you, I—I hurt you, oh God, your leg—”
“M’ leg?” You glanced down, seeing the deep lacerations on your thigh for the first time. Blood was streaming steadily out of the wound. You looked back at Remus blankly. “Oh. I’m bleeding, Moony.”
“Yeah, sweetheart, you’re bleeding real bad.” Remus gulped, feeling the lump in his throat growing tenfold as he stared at the blood pool quickly forming beneath you.
Remus felt a hand on his shoulder. “She might have a concussion too, mate,” Sirius spoke softly, “I think we need to get her out of here. Fast.”
You squinted at the two boys. “That why I’m feeling all fuzzy?”
Remus began reaching for you, but abruptly stopped himself. You weren’t too out of it just yet, and noticed his hesitation. You reached for his hand, offering a smile as you squeezed it. “S’alright, Rem. You won’t hurt me.”
That was all the reassurance he needed. Remus pushed his guilt and discomfort aside and cupped your face in his hands, eyes burning with worry and determination. “Alright, I’m going to pick you up, and it might hurt a lot, but it’ll be worse if you struggle, okay, love? I’m so sorry.”
You nodded in response, and his arms quickly made their way around you. You savored the sensation of being pressed against his chest, the shock keeping you from feeling much else.
Remus took a few deep breaths, steadying himself before hoisting you up. You let out a pained cry at the feeling of your leg being jostled, curling further into Remus. “Think the shock is wearing off now, Rem,” you uttered.
His heart clenched at the sight, and he fought to keep himself together. “I’m sorry, darling. I’m sorry,” he murmured into your hair. He could feel your heavy breathing on his neck, but what really concerned him was your blood, which he could still feel dripping onto him.
The other boys led the way back to the castle, Remus trying to move as fast as possible while inflicting minimal pain on you. As the long trek went on, you were beginning to feel increasingly drowsy, a weight tugging at your eyelids.
Remus’ voice heightened in panic when he saw the way your head was lolling to the side. “Hey, hey, no, stay awake, love. Don’t do that, Y/N. You’ve got to stay awake for me, okay, sweetheart?”
“‘M so sleepy, Rem. Wanna sleep,” you slurred, barely coherent as you slipped in and out of consciousness.
“I know, darling, I know. Just a little farther, please just—just hold on for a little while longer, alright?” he begged, pressing a kiss to your temple. There was so much blood, why was there so much blood?
Remus kept talking to you the whole way to the castle, and you fought to keep your eyes open like he was telling you to. But eventually, you gave in and Remus’ pleads fell on deaf ears as you went completely limp. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he desperately shook you, getting no response. Luckily, the Hospital Wing was in sight by then, and the boys broke into a run until they burst through the doors.
Madam Pomfrey jumped from her seat at the sudden commotion, rushing over to the group of boys.
“Please, help her!” Remus wailed, laying you onto the nearest bed.
As James hurriedly explained the situation to Madam Pomfrey, Sirius tugged the weeping Remus away from your side. “She’s going to be okay, Moony, I promise,” he assured Remus, despite his own tears.
As much as he wanted to believe that, no words could comfort Remus at the moment. There was no stopping the sobs that shook his body, and he found himself sliding to the ground, hand over his mouth as he watched your body being tended to.
Everything was a blur after that. He vaguely recalled Madam Pomfrey ordering him onto the bed next to you when she was done with you. He mindlessly complied as she mended the small scratches and bruises littering his own skin. Truthfully, he hadn’t even noticed them at all. His eyes were glued to you the entire time. He didn’t think he could look away even if he tried, not even when you’d been properly bandaged. Not when Madam Pomfrey asserted you’d make a full recovery. Not when she kicked the rest of the marauders out after ensuring they weren’t injured. No, he watched you until you awoke.
Surprisingly, it only took a couple of hours. He had still been sitting motionless on the edge of his bed when he saw you begin to stir. Immediately, he rushed to your side, eyes brimming with tears yet again as he heard you let out a low groan that was soon followed by your eyes blinking open. Remus nearly burst with joy.
You, on the other hand, were pretty confused. “Remus? What’s going on? Shit, my leg hurts like a bitch.”
He let out a strained chuckle, but shame soon replaced his short-lived relief. He shifted his gaze away from you. “You came a little early to the Shack. I was still…that thing. I attacked you. You have a mild concussion, and you lost a lot of blood. I’m so unbelievably sorry, Y/N.”
The memories returned to you, and you winced at the image of the werewolf leaping onto you. While you would probably need some time to recover physically and mentally, by the way he was avoiding your face, you knew this was going to be harder for Remus than it would ever be for you.
You grunted as you attempted to push yourself up, Remus’ hands immediately pushing you back down, his brows creased with worry.
“Woah, hey, stay down, love. You can’t get up yet.” His large hands were firmly anchoring your shoulders to the bed.
You put one of your hands on top of his, giving it a squeeze that made Remus’ breath hitch. “I just want to sit up, Rem. Help me?”
Your eyes had him in a chokehold. For the millionth time, he gave in to your request and eased you back against the wall. He complied once again when you tugged on his arm, settling down next to you.
You didn’t know if it was the adrenaline, side effects of Madam Pomfrey’s treatment, or your brush with death, but you scooted up against Remus and laid your head on his shoulder. You felt him tense underneath you, and you figured you’d probably react similarly had the situation been reversed.
“Remus, you have to know I don’t blame you at all,” you said with as much conviction as you could muster.
The boy stared straight ahead as he struggled to process the emotions overwhelming him. He managed a weak, “I know,” in response.
You continued, “If anything, it’s my fault. I came too early, I didn’t wait for the signal.” You knew he was about to interrupt you, but you cut him off, “And I know you’d disagree. You’d never blame me. So know that I feel the exact same towards you, alright?”
He gave you a curt nod, rendered speechless by your words and actions.
Countless thoughts raced through your own mind, but one in particular was nagging at you. You sighed, knowing you couldn’t wait any longer to bring it up. “Remus, remember the day Sirius turned Winnie into a dog?”
“Yes, I remember,” he breathed.
“I lied to you that day.” You took your head off his shoulder to find him looking at you in confusion.
“Lied about what?”
“When you were helping me reverse the charm, you asked me if I liked you. And I said no.” Now or never. “I lied.”
Remus was certain you could hear how loud his heart was pounding. “What do you mean? You like me?”
You squeezed your eyes shut before shooting him a defeated grin. “More like I’ve been hopelessly in love with you since first year.”
Remus’ jaw hung open. “You…what?”
You shifted uncomfortably. “I love you, you git. I understand if you don’t feel the same way, but please don’t make me say it again—”
Remus’ lips crashed onto yours before you could utter another word. You gasped at the contact, but quickly returned the kiss. You felt warmth spread throughout your entire body as his lips moved against yours in a way that was both unexpected and familiar. He held your cheek with one hand, the other tangled in your hair, tingles emanating from every inch of skin he touched. You melted into his touch, dragging your hands down his back and—
“Oy! No snogging in the hospital wing!”
The two of you broke apart, startled by Madam Pomfrey’s reprimand. She slinked out of view after giving you a prolonged scowl. You and Remus looked at each other, dissolving into laughter.
“So, I take it you feel the same way?”
The grin never left Remus’ face as he pulled you into his side. “Yes, you twit. I’ve been hopelessly in love with you ever since I walked onto the Hogwarts Express and laid eyes on the prettiest girl I’d ever seen in my life. Then, I actually talked to you, and that was it. I was long gone. Unsalvageable, really.”
Your cheeks burned at his confession. “I honestly can’t believe you just said that, Remus Lupin.”
He shook his head. “I can’t believe Sirius was right.”
“What?” Your head shot up. “But Sirius has known I’ve liked you for forever. Why didn’t he say anything?”
Remus thought back to the many, many conversations he’d had with Sirius about you. “I reckon he did, darling. In retrospect, I think everyone knew. You and I are just too stubborn to listen.”
“I refuse to give Sirius the satisfaction of being right,” you huffed.
Remus laughed, planting a kiss to the top of your head. “Yeah, that too.”
~
A few days later, you’d both been discharged and were back in class. Everything was back to normal, except for the fact that you were now dating Remus Lupin.
You hadn’t realized how much affection he’d previously been holding back, all of it being unleashed on you now that it was all out in the open. If he was protective before, it didn’t hold a candle to the way he treated you now. He was constantly fussing over you, using your wounded leg as an excuse to coddle you.
“Angel, here, use me as a crutch. Just grab my arm right there and—”
“Remus, you’re already carrying all my books. My leg’s almost completely healed now, I promise you I can walk on my own.”
Your boyfriend shot you a skeptical look as you wobbled towards the stairs ahead of you. You knew you’d never make it all the way up the steps to the astronomy tower on your own, but the concussion hadn’t made you any less hard-headed. You were determined to prove to Remus he could stop worrying about you. It was a futile effort—Remus would worry about you for the rest of time, whether or not you were injured.
Remus glanced at Sirius. “I don’t know what she’s thinking, she’s just going to hurt herself, don’t you think she should let me help?”
“Sure, she probably does need your assistance there.” Sirius crossed his arms over his chest. “You know what she doesn’t need, mate? You coming up with a new pet name for her every other day. I mean, angel? It’s revolting. And don’t get me started on—”
“I’ll stop when you stop calling her doll,” Remus said smugly.
“Never.”
“Then sod off, mate,” Remus called over his shoulder as he jogged over to you.
After a few more minutes of bargaining, you finally allowed Remus to dump your books on Sirius and carry you up the steep steps. You complained the whole way up, of course.
Once you made it to the top, Remus set you down and helped you over to one of the benches by the edge of the tower overlooking Hogwarts’ grounds. He took his place next to you while Sirius set his things down a little farther away, grumbling about how heavy your books were.
“Hey,” Sirius called, “you’re finally the one up here with her, Moony!”
You furrowed your eyebrows. “What does he mean, Rem?”
Remus bit his lip, turning you away from Sirius. “No idea what he’s on about, love.”
You didn’t believe him, but you didn’t push it. You’d bring it up later. Right now, you just wanted to spend time with your boyfriend. You loved being able to call him that.
He pulled you closer, and you wrapped your arms around his waist, sighing in content. “Sometimes I still can’t believe this is real,” you said quietly.
“I feel the same way. And to think we could’ve had this six years earlier if one of us had just said something.”
You groaned, “Ugh, don’t remind me. I get so annoyed thinking about all the time wasted.”
Remus pressed his lips to the top of your head. “Well, I wouldn’t call it time wasted. I still loved every moment I spent with you, even though it was torturous at times. There were so many times I almost gave in and told you.”
“Tell me about it. Do you know how much time I spent analyzing every hug you gave me? I completely terrorized Sirius for years.”
Remus chuckled, “He deserves it.”
You blinked up at him as he tucked a few loose strands of hair behind your ear, relishing in the comfort that small gesture brought. “Remus, do you think we’ll be together for the rest of our lives?”
You’d never seen him look so earnest as he whispered, “I promise you eternity and everything after, darling.”
You smiled, meeting his lips halfway, never tiring of how they felt on you.
“Hey, Y/N!” Sirius suddenly shouted, causing you to break apart and glare at him.
“What, Sirius?”
He grinned sheepishly. “About that conditioner—”
You and Remus yelled in unison, “Shut up, Sirius!”

James’s cock was throbbing, completely pulsating with desire and no matter what he did, he couldn’t get it off his mind. He couldn’t get off at all actually, at least not without permission. Remus and Sirius ran a tight ship, and he knew he’d have to wait until they got home. But they were going to be much longer, and even if he could wait, they’d probably tease him for hours being in this state, just laugh at him while he begged. No. He needed his desire satiated right now. He wandered down the hall to find the shared bedroom to search for you, who had also been left behind while Remus and Sirius were off doing god knows what.
He peered in to find you reading a book on the large king size bed. Looking oh so inviting in Sirius’s t-shirt paired with your shortest sleeping shorts. He watched as you chewed on the end of your thumb absentmindedly, wishing your lips would be doing something else. He crawled up on the bed beside you and spooned in behind as close as he could get. You wiggled back into him to get comfy, and acknowledge him at the same time. But to your great surprise he whined softly behind you. You closed your book and turned so you were chest to chest, creating more torturous friction for your bespeckled boy.
“Jamie what’s wrong?”
He just whined again and instead of explaining himself he rolled over you, resituating it so he was on top of you between your legs rubbing against you, while kissing your neck. You just giggled, despite the instant feeling of pleasure of him rubbing against your clothed clit.
“Okay okay, I think I get it now, but we can’t. Remmy and Siri didn’t give us permission and they’ll get mad.”
You were much better at following the rules, but it was easy for James to get you into trouble. Tears, literal tears were forming in his eyes as he continued to grind into you, burying his face in your chest.
“Please, please y/n need it so bad. Need you so bad. It hurts, I know they could get mad but I can’t wait any longer it hurts. Please.”
You pressed a kiss to the top of his head and rubbed his hair soothingly.
“Okay Jamie, it’s okay. We have to be quick though so they don’t find out, alright? Come on baby lie down for me and let me help.”
He was relieved as he flopped on his back, hopefully Sirius and Remus would be gone away long enough.
---
“Y/N? James, we’re home!”
Remus was shedding his coat, eager to find you two so he could get some relaxation.
“Puppy? Prongs? Come on, we brought you something.”
Sirius’s eyes furrowed in confusion. Normally you two would rush down to meet them, this was odd.
“Come on Pads, maybe they’re just napping and can’t hear us.”
As they got closer and closer to the bedroom the answer became much more clear. They paused outside the door and shared a look, both expressions reflecting the features of anger, of dissatisfaction. Between the sound of the creaking bed, your whines were barely audible, while James sounded like he was getting the fucking of his life. And when they opened the door that’s exactly what they found.
Both of you being completely naked, James was over top of you missionary style, resting on his forearms, biting your shoulder, pounding into you like he’d never get to make you feel good again. Your legs were wrapped around his waist, hands in his hair, gripping it like gravity would stop working, pulling you away into the room’s atmosphere of desire and elation.
That atmosphere however, quickly turned into a different one, of tension, nervousness and guilt, when you both heard Sirius clear his throat. You both scrambled and pushed away from each other, but the damage was done. You two were in for it now. The worst part was Remus’s neutral face, his cold eyes. Sirius was the first to break the silence.
“What the fuck is going on here?”
You were sitting up now, but James was lying face down, hiding his shame against your thighs. You tried to coax him out, scratched lightly at his scalp, knowing if he kept this up he’d make the punishment worse.
“It’s alright Jamie, why don’t you just show them.”
He lifted himself and moved to the edge of the bed, now displaying his aching cock, with an angry red tip that was dripping precum as you all spoke. It was clear he hadn’t come yet, but was very very close. He swallowed thick as Remus knelt before him, terrified at what was about to come. Remus’s pointer finger drew a feather light straight line against James’s swollen member. James couldn’t take the dreadful silence anymore.
“Moony I’m sorry, it’s my fault. It hurt so much so I made Y/N feel bad so she could make it go away. I was desperate, just wanted it to go away, I’m sorry.”
Remus smiled a little before rising to his full height. If James was blubbering now, this was going to be a long night.
“James, we both know you’re not supposed to touch things that aren’t yours, right?”
“Right.”
“See, that’s the thing. You were being greedy and selfish. Touching what didn’t belong to you. Touching me and Sirius’s puppy. Such a needy slut, couldn’t even wait and when Pads and I were only out to bring you and Y/N a present.”
James looked at Sirius (who had his arms crossed and jaw clenched) then back up at Remus.
“I’m sorry.”
“No, but you will be.”
You were playing with your fingers nervously, mentally preparing yourself for your punishment as Sirius approached you. Your jaw was placed between Sirius’s thumb and fingers, pulling you closer to his lips, but instead he moved past your face to your ear.
“You’re supposed to be a good puppy, for me and Remus’s pleasure. Not for your own and certainly not for James. That clear pup?”
You nodded as much as his fierce grip would allow.
“Good, now lie down on Jamsie’s lap.”
As soon as he released you, you quickly did as you were told, shaking with anticipation as both Remus and Sirius undressed completely. You could feel James’s cock throb against you, it being pressed upright between your hip and his stomach.
Sirius joined you so he was beside James, your head close to his lap. While Remus was on the opposite side rubbing and kneading your ass.
“You’re gonna suck my cock bubs, while Remmy spanks your ass okay?”
You stuck out your tongue and opened your mouth wide for him so he could angle himself and slip past your lips.
“Moony how many swats?”
“15, only cause I wanna see her squirm while your dick is in her mouth.”
“Okay bubs, 15 hits and you’re done. 15 swats and you get to be our good puppy again. James you count. This alright love?”
You bobbed down on his dick in response.
“There’s the good girl we trained so well.”
Smack. “O-one.” “Two.”
At first it seemed like you were the only one being punished, but at closer inspection one could tell that with every jolt you made, James was right there with you. Because every movement reminded him of how over sensitive he was as your hip brushed against his length.
Smack “T-te”
Remus rolled his eyes. “You’re so pathetic, Y/N is being such a good girl for us and you can’t even handle her being spanked. If Y/N wasn’t being so obedient I’d make you restart. We’re at ten.”
You just hummed around Sirius as the rest of your punishment ensued, feeling like you got off pretty easy. Not that you would tell them that. James on the other hand, well, poor James. He looked at you longingly, wanting it to be his throat that Sirius was cumming down. Sirius held your cheek in his palm so he could soothe it with his thumb before running it along your bottom lip.
“Such a good pup sucking my cock so well. Need you to do something else yeah.”
You just looked up at him and nodded, peering up at him with your doe eyes. He groaned at the look of innocence you could portray so easily before taking your hand and turning you towards Remus. He pulled you in for a kiss, holding you tight as you melted into him. You were immediately interrupted by James’s needy whines, so reluctantly, Remus pulled away.
“You’re eager to be punished now, are you James? Alright then, move to the middle of the bed and lie on your back, now.”
As he did what he was told Remus guided you to straddle his waist.
“Okay Puppy you can sit on his cock, but no moving understand?”
“Yes Remmy.”
James through his head back in frustration as you sank down on him.
“Please, please I’ve learned my lesson please.”
You stayed rooted, not exactly eager to piss off your boys again, while Remus stood off to the side of the bed with his hand guiding Sirius up and down on his cock, staring with nothing but malcontent. James cried some more, tears rolling down his cheeks, heavier than before.
“Please it hurts please!”
Your eyebrows knit together in pity. You did everything you could to soothe him but it was no use. You would stroke his face, pepper kisses across his face, rub his chest, but the only thing you could to solve the problem was the one thing you weren’t allowed to do.
“It’s alright Jamie, it’ll be okay.”
You took a deep breath, risking punishment again as your heart broke wiping away his tears.
“Remmy, Siri, please let him cum. He didn’t mean to, it was hurting him please. He knows he’s yours he’s learned his lesson. Isn’t that right Jamie?”
Remus gripped Sirius’s hair tighter, fucking his throat with vigor as he got closer to gis own release.
“Alright pup you know what to do.” You started moving up and down on him as he thrust up desperately into you. “Tell me James, who do you belong to?”
“Y-you Moony. You and padfoot.”
“Good boy, you can cum now come on, do it with me.”
Sirius’s mouth and your pussy were painted white simultaneously not much later. James’s face finally relaxed, thrilled he finally was relieved of the torturous tension. That was until Sirius cut in.
“Puppy, Remus didn’t say you could stop did he? Keep going.”
Sirius moved to hold down James’s chest as he writhed underneath you
“Pads no it’s too much, it’s too much.”
“Y/N was so nice to beg to let you cum and now you won’t return the favor? You really are a selfish whore.”
Remus approached James from the other side and slipped his middle and pointer finger past his lips.
“There, that’ll shut him up. Keep going bubs you’re doing so good.”
With his other hand he reached to thumb your clit, letting out the prettiest noise Sirius and Remus had ever heard.
“It’s okay Jamie, m’close, so close. Can I cum. Please?”
Remus circled his thumb faster.
“Go ahead darling make a mess.”
You really didn’t understand how James had waited so long. It didn’t matter anymore though as you pulled out and collapsed against his chest. But Sirius was pulling you off of James completely while Remus soothed James.
“It’s alright Prongs, you can be our good boy again. Here, let’s show you what we bought.”
You and James sat against the headboard as Remus and Sirius each handed you a little box. When you opened them you found two matching delicate chains, the kind with a horizontal rectangle in the middle. But the best part was seeing the engraved initials S.B. and R.L. on the pendant.
“It’s so pretty can you put it on for me Siri?”
Sirius grinned at your excitement while clipping the necklace in the back, while Remus did the same for James. Sirius was kissing up and down the side of your neck, wanting to provide extra proof of who you belonged to while Remus fondled the pendant on James, appreciating the color choice against his flushed skin.
“There we go, now it’ll be a lot harder to forget who you belong to now huh.”
And you would never want to.

Congrats!! Prompt: Lily + green + bittersweet
@elizabeth-dicewielder i hope you like this!!
“Congrats, Potter!”
“Well done, Captain!”
“Excellent match, James, you deserved the win!”
“Gryffindor for the win! Prongs, you wonderful, fucking talented bastard!”
Lily snorted to herself as she watched Sirius Black shove aside the groupie that had been hounding his friend since he had entered the Gryffindor Common Room. He smacked James Potter on the back and the two boys embrace enthusiastically.
“You were on the team too, you idiot!” James laughed.
“You won the game for us!” Sirius Beamed back. “Here, have some firewhisky, you deserve it.”
He shoved a bottle of the amber liquid at Potter, who grinned and raised it, clinking Sirius’s glass.
“Cheers! Here’s to beating those Ravenclaws!”
Lily let her eyes linger on the Captain’s muscular forearms, on his athletic shoulders, which looked ready to burst through his skin-tight quidditch uniform, the way it hugged the outline of his pecs and abdominal muscles, his muscular calves, his-
“Lily, you’re staring.”
Mary MacDonald’s voice sounded amused. Even now Lily was reluctant to tear her eyes away.
“Very obviously staring. You seem very, er, thirsty. Shall we get you a drink?”
Mary was outright laughing at her. Lily’s sharp elbow dug into her annoying friend’s side and Mary yelped in surprise.
“I’ll get it myself, you muppet!” Lily said, trying to keep her expression neutral even as she felt herself turning red.
“You’re very pretty when you blush, Evans.”
She turned around, heat rising, and gave Sirius Black a condescending glance, before downing an entire glass of firewhisky in one go. The golden liquid made her throat burn, her eyes sting. She didn’t splutter or cough once. She watched Sirius’ gaze, impressed, his expression softening a bit.
“Fuck off,” she said, when she could speak.
“Don’t you like being complimented?” he said with a smirk.
“Not particularly,” she scoffed, rolling her eyes good naturedly. “Would you like it if I said you were looking pretty?”
He made a face.
“Not particularly,” he said, laughing.
She laughed too, twisting the glass in her hand.
“You do look well, Evans,” the dark haired boy said. “Trying to impress anyone?”
She had worn a muggle outfit, a long, boho dress in very fine crepe de chine polyester fabric with swirls of sea green, bright pink, cornflower blue. Her hair was long and wavy, the dark auburn colour highlighting her emerald eyes. She had worn it become she looked almost ethereal in it, stunning, and because...
Her eyes fell on the Gryffindor captain again, who was linking arms with a tall, dark-haired witch, a Seventh Year girl, who was also on the Quidditch team. She looked wonderful and they looked well together, happy, laughing, contented.
She had only found out they were dating when she had seen Potter pull her in for a quick kiss. Dorcas had confirmed it, sensitively. She had dropped her glass of butterbeer, smashing it on the floor. And replaced it with something stronger.
“They look well together,” she said.
She was still twisting the glass in her hand.
Sirius looked over at his friend. He shrugged his shoulders.
“She’s great,” he said. Noncommittal.
“I’m glad he’s happy.”
If Fifth Year Lily could have seen herself now at the start of Seventh Year, the bittersweet tone of her voice, longing in her eyes, brooding facial expression... she’s have been stunned.
“You are in your arse,” said Sirius.
She stared back at him, preparing herself to look highly offended. But...
“Come on, Evans, don’t be a coward,” Sirius Black’s grey eyes flashing, full of challenge.
“Look. I’m glad he’s happy, I’m not lying, alright? I just... I just wish I was the one making him happy. Satisfied?”
She sighed and poured herself another drink. She couldn’t believe she had just said it. Must be the alcohol.
“That’s my girl, a true Gryffindor,” Sirius said, his grey eyes alight now, twinkling dangerously.
“If you fucking say a word to him, I swear to you-“
“My lips are sealed, Evans,” he said, putting his arm around her and squeezing her shoulder tightly. “He’s my best friend, but that doesn’t mean he’s not an idiot. And anyway, we’re friends too now, aren’t we?”
“Yeah, I think we are, Padfoot,” she said, using the nickname she had heard for the past two years.
“One of these days I’ll explain where that comes from,” Sirius said, barking a laugh as he took her hand and led her to the centre of the Common Room, where numerous couples had started to slow dance. “Sometimes When We Touch” came on the magical record player.
“Come on then, Evans, a dance for old time’s sake, seeing as we’re mates. It’ll cheer you up. Do it for me. I’m thwarted in love and drowning my own sorrows. Help a chap, would you?”
“Oh?” she was surprised that the suave, charming but aloof boy was opening up to her of all people. He hadn’t liked her last year, but they had grown closer since then, realising they had much in common.
“Oh fine, Sirius, just because you asked nicely,” she said, pushing his arm playfully, slightly less morose than before.
“Excellent,” he said, putting his arms around her waist.
She didn’t see the flash of mischief in his eyes.
The lyrics played...
At times I'd like to break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through
And hold you endlessly
At times I understand you
And I know how hard you've tried
I've watched while love commands you
And I've watched love pass you by
At times I think we're drifters
Still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister
But then the passion flares again
James Potter was now staring at his attractive friend, holding onto Evans’ waist, Evans who looked bloody gorgeous in her beautiful muggle dress, like a vision... wait, what? And Sirius still wearing his tight Quidditch gear, which for some bloody stupid godforsaken reason he seemed to have charmed to fit him too tightly, look at his bloody arse that was fucking ridiculous, and WHAT DO YOU MEAN “THEN THE PASSION FLARES”!?!?!
Lily Evans had her head on Sirius’ chest, a glass of firewhisky still in her hand, the other one looping casually around his friend’s neck. Occasionally they murmured something between them, both of them giggling aloud, intimate, serene. Playfully swatting each other, Sirius whispering in her ear, Lily’s neck arching backwards, her eyes closed blissfully...
And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you 'til I die
'Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you 'til the fear in me subsides
Sirius caught him staring and smiled back, smug, with a barely raised eyebrow.
James stared back, raising both brows, surprise, trying a feigned indifference. Trying, and failing.
What the fuck, his look said, I didn’t know you fancied Lily?
Maybe I do, Sirius Black’s eyes challenged. You’re over her anyway.
Potter sweeps a hand over his face in desperation.

“No, it’s over. She ended it.”
Warnings: Fighting, violence and underage drinking
Pairing: Sirius Black x Reader
Words: 4.6k
Summary: Heart break hurts.
Part One "I love you more than the sky and the ground but I can’t do this anymore."
(Here is part two to “I love you more than the sky and the ground but I can’t do this anymore” Writing this was painful. I did everything I could to convey as much emotion as I can and I apologize if it is a little bit too long, nevertheless, I hope you enjoy my heart break)
By the time the boys went up to their dorm, they expected to see Sirius sitting by his desk, a glass of firewhiskey in hand as he usually did when you and Sirius fought. However, as the creaked open the door, the room was dimly lit with the center fireplace and Sirius was nowhere near a bottle of alcohol. Instead, James peered over from the side of the room to see Sirius’ body underneath the covers, in a depressive sleep. He searched for you, hopeful to see your sleeping figure curled next to Sirius. But, you weren’t. Remus placed his bag gently on the floor and mouthed to James.
“Is she there?”
James shook his head and scratched the back of his neck in confusion. The boys convened in the bathroom, shutting the door behind them so Sirius could not hear their whispers.
“What happened?” Peter asked.
“Must’ve been quite a nasty fight,” Remus shrugged, looking at the bathroom door worriedly.
“Do you think they...?” Peter trailed off as he remembered hearing the fighting all the way from the common room couches.
“Of course not,” James swatted his hand, “It’s Y/N and Padfoot, they bicker and fight all the time. ‘M sure everything’s alright.”
“They couldn’t have broken up,” Remus agreed, “We’d have seen something.”
James breathed deeply in thought. The three boys stood in complete confusion.
“Should one of us go check up on Y/N?” Peter asked, his fingers scratching his nose nervously.
“No, better not.” James answered, “Leave her be, I’m sure we’ll see her in the morning.” James uncrossed his arms and pulled his shirt over his head, “Go on then, Worm. You know you have detention tomorrow morning, best not be late or McGonagall will surely decimate you.”
Peter agreed silently and the boys did their nightly routine, missing Sirius’ bouncing voice. As the boys got settled into bed, Remus stood to put out the lights. A shuffle was heard in Sirius’ bed and the marauders froze. They paused silently, waiting, listening until they heard a small cry from under the covers. Remus looked sharply at the boys, shaking his head and signaling to leave Sirius be. As Remus turned off the lights, he shut Sirius’ curtains as to give him some needed privacy and all the boys went to sleep worried for their dear friend Padfoot.
Light flickered through the curtains, blessing the dorm room with bright and glowing sunshine. Remus, Peter, and James all began to stir, waking up on their own time for breakfast. James sat up and fumbled clumsily for his glasses. The room became more clearer, brighter, as James yawned tiredly. He glanced at Remus, who was getting ready themselves and looked at Sirius’ bed. Something in his expected Sirius to still be fast asleep, a pillow over his head and snores slipping out of his mouth. However, he didn’t see Sirius asleep as he usually was. Instead, Sirius was sat on his bed. He appeared to be fully dressed, though his clothing was wrinkled as if he had just dug through the hamper to find something suitable for the day. His hair was wildly splayed and pushed back. And his head fell lowly, looking at something in his hands.
“You alright, mate?” James said slowly, standing next to his bed. His eyes focused on the object in his best friend’s hands, a silver chain with a ring attached. James felt himself go numb. Sirius hadn’t put on the chain. That was the first thing he did every morning, something he took quite a bit of pride in. Sirius looked up at James, his face was blank and pale. He clenched his jaw and shook his head slowly before looking back at the necklace in his hands.
Remus looked over at the two boys as James glanced back at him, his lips were in a thin line. “C’mon, Pad, shall we get a bit of breakfast then?” Sirius’ best friends watched as he slowly stood and dropped the necklace on the bed table. He grabbed his book bag, slung it over his shoulder, and followed the boys solemnly to the Great Hall.
The entire way felt as if every second had been magically transformed into hours, and every step felt brutal as Sirius counted the tiles on the floor. He was oblivious to the concerned looks the marauders shared with each other until he sat down next to James at the breakfast table. Peter joined after his morning detention. He could feel the aching silence all the way from the hallway and as he sat next to Remus, he stared at his friend with such sympathy. There, the marauders sat and it was painfully silent besides the sound of the occasional munching on toast.
“Sirius,” Peter said softly and as sensitive as he could, “did something happen last night?”
Sirius didn’t reply and Peter reached for Remus to help.
“Did you fight with Y/N?” Remus gripped his coffee cup in his hands.
“Yes,” Sirius said softly.
“And, did you two make up?” James continued, turning his body to look. Sirius barely touched any food, he played with a piece of toast, ripping it apart with his fingers.
“No,” Sirius replied. James looked around the Great Hall, wishing to see your body walking towards them. He even looked at the other House tables in hopes to see if you had decided to sit with your other friends. But, there was no trace of you.
“Well, mate. Don’t worry about it, she’ll be here soon and the two of you can make up and then snog in front of us. No worries.” James placed a joking tone to mask his immense worry.
“I don’t think so.”
“It can’t have been that bad of a fight, yeah?” Peter assured Sirius.
Sirius looked up from his plate and said as quietly as he could, “We broke up.”
James nearly spat out his juice and with his mouth agape, “You what?!”
“Don’t make me say it again,” Sirius begged, closing his eyes and resting his head on the rim of his glass.
“What happened, Padfoot?” Peter asked, “You can tell us, mate.”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“I’m sure if we just, or even you spoke to Y/N today, you could sort it all out.” Remus continued, feigning hopefulness.
“No, it’s over. She ended it.”
“Oh,” Peter said quietly. “But, I’m sure if the two of you just spoke-”
Sirius shot up and slammed his hand angrily on the table, “I said I don’t want to talk about it!” he yelled, a vein popping out of his neck. The three boys ignored the awkward looks they were getting from their fellow classmates and only looked at Sirius with sadness. It was completely unlike Sirius to lose his temper and raise his voice with the boys, he was usually so carefree and snarky. This was a side of Sirius they had never seen, a broken, saddened, and frustrated Sirius. Sirius quickly realized how loud he had shouted and pulled his hand away from the table as if it were lit by magma. He ran his hand through his hair and stammered,
“I... I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” He said finally before turning swiftly and stalking out of the Great Hall, leaving his friends watching his back.
“What the hell happened between those two?” Remus asked with wide eyes.
“I... I’m not sure.” James pushed his glasses up his nose.
“I’ve never seen Sirius so...” Peter trailed off, unable to find the words to describe Sirius’ current emotional state.
“I know.” Remus agreed. “What do we do, Prongs?”
James bit his lip anxiously, “I. I don’t know. I’m not sure...”
Breakfast continued in silence until the time bled into class periods. The boys trudged slowly to their first class, Charms, whispering in hushed voices of concern. As James opened the classroom door, he saw Sirius sitting there, his feet on his desk, and his head relaxed in his hands. He blinked rapidly, trying to refocus. It seemed that Sirius, or someone who looked like Sirius, was sitting, cooly at his desk, not caring about the world. It was a complete twist of what the boys had just seen in the Great Hall merely minutes ago. Perhaps he had swallowed stolen liquid luck for confidence, but Sirius turned his head and smiled brightly at the boys.
“Thought you boys would be late,” he said smugly, putting his feet on the ground and resting his forearms on the desk in front of him.
“Yeah... we just... had breakfast,” Remus said slowly, taking his seat behind Sirius.
James looked cautiously at Sirius before asking, “everything... alright, Pad?”
“What?” Sirius’ eyebrows cocked up, “Yeah, everything is perfect.” Peter looked at Remus who shrugged cluelessly. Remus’ eyes barely caught yours as you came into the room and quickly took your seat beside Lily Evans. Remus glanced at Lily who shook her head at him and held your hand under the desk in comfort. As class started and the Professor droned on about his lecture, Sirius twirled his wand in his fingers whilst you doodled on your parchment, pretending to take notes. Remus watched as Lily whispered to you and saw your eyes close briefly before opening and nodding at her. He assumed Lily had asked if you were alright, and you, a gentle girl, nodded fakely.
When the professor dismissed the class, each of the boys split up for their next period. Sirius ruffled Peter’s hair and wrapped his arm around his shoulder to guide him to potions while Remus had a study period and James had transfigurations with Lily. Remus sent the usually over cocky James a silent look, signaling him to speak to Evans about what had happened and James nodded in return.
“Evans!” James chased after Lily, reminding himself not to get lost in her beautiful eyes or smell the scent of her shampoo. Lily turned, sighed to herself, and slowed her pace to allow James Potter to catch up.
“I’m not in the mood for your aimless flirting, Potter,” Lily said as they walked side by side.
“Aimless? I don’t suppose true words of love are ‘aimless,’ Evans.” James grinned.
“I knew I shouldn’t have slowed down,” Lily grumbled, beginning to speed up her walking.
“Hey! I’m sorry, wait.” James caught her elbow swiftly and stopped her in the corridor. “I’m sorry,” he said sincerely.
“What is it, Potter?” Lily looked up at tall James and asked.
“What, um,” James scratched the back of his neck again, “What happened between Y/N and Sirius?”
“You don’t know?” Lily searched the corridor for either you or Sirius, “They broke up.”
“Well, I know that,” James sighed, “But... why? What happened?”
“All I know is last night I came into the dorm and she was... rather inconsolable. I’m not sure she caught any sleep last night either. It’s...”
“Weird?” James finished for her. Lily nodded in confirmation.
“Quite. I’ve never seen Y/N is such array and I never would’ve thought they’d actually break up.” Lily sighed in sympathy for her best friend. “If you asked me earlier, I would’ve been sure they’d have had gotten married and had small, snarky children in the future.”
James laughed lightly.
“And, well.” Lily continued, “It was even more mortifying as Y/N was nearly in tears in class, your best friend seemed to not have a bother in the world.” Lily spat out the words ‘best friend’ making James flinch.
“It’s not like that,” James assured.
“Oh?” Lily glared, “To me, and although Y/N will never admit it, to her as well, we both saw Sirius’ rather senseless attitude. He didn’t even seem to care they had broken up.”
“That’s not true,” James argued as he defended his friend, “earlier this morning he was quite upset, I’m not sure what happened by charms, though.”
“Upset? Really?” Lily asked condescendingly, “Well, whatever. Y/N is nearly heartbroken and Sirius? He barely seemed to have a heart at all.”
James wanted to argue back, he wanted to scream and defend his friend till his dying breath. But, he couldn’t shake the image of Sirius twirling his wand, slicking his hair back with his fingers. It did seem rather senseless and emotionless for him to do that, so soon after the breakup. Instead, James walked silently next to Evans until they reached McGonagall’s class.
“You know what I think?” Sirius piped up loudly over the lunch table. He had returned to his normal, boisterous self, and placed a rather convincing smile on his face.
“What’s that?” Remus asked, chewing on some peas.
“I think we should have a party tonight.” Sirius grinned at his friends who looked back at him in shock.
James cleared his throat, pushing his glasses up, “Are you... sure you want to do that, Pad?”
“Of course I do! It’s Friday, we’re bored, we may as well have a raging party in the common room. ‘Sides, we got all the booze in the room anyways that needs to be drunk.”
“‘M not sure that’s quite the best idea,” Peter said after a while, choosing his words carefully, “after... you know,” he ticked his head to where you were sitting. Your head was focused on your plate as you listened to Lily and Marlene chat endlessly.
“After what?” Sirius asked, “After the breakup? Mates, I’m fine. I knew we were going to break up anyway, I’m fine.”
“Still,” Peter chewed, “Is it... the best idea, right now?”
“Oh, you bellend. You’re just upset you lost at wizard staff and got so pissed you nearly threw up half of your stomach contents.” Sirius barked a laugh, “You’re with me, right Prongs?” he turned to his friend for support who looked like a deer caught in headlights.
“Well...” James bit his lip, “‘m not sure, Padfoot. You and Y/N just broke up-”
“Oh come on! You too? I told you, you pricks, look I’m fine!” Sirius groaned and yelled, “Well, say whatever, the party is happening and if I know my friends, which I like to hope I do, you’ll be there.” And with that, Sirius stood to spread the word for the party.
“This isn’t good.” Remus said in a hushed voice to the boys, “He’s gone mental.”
“Mental? I think he’s just rather upset,” Peter leaned into the circle. “Prongs, you’ve got to say something to him.”
James glanced up at Sirius who was bouncing around the tables to allow every one of the news of the raging party that night. “Maybe he’s in denial.”
“It doesn’t matter what he is,” Remus said sharply, “Look at Y/N, she’s clearly distraught at the sight of her boyfriend galloping off.”
“Ex-boyfriend,” Peter reminded making Remus shoot him a glare.
“Come on, James.” Remus nudged him, “You’ve got to do something.”
James scratched his chin and said uncomfortably, “I’m not sure I, or any of us, can say anything to make him change his mind. I think... I think he’s heartbroken.”
Remus and Peter hummed in agreement, “What do we do then?”
“I guess...” James trailed off, cursing at himself for letting Sirius block himself in, “I guess we go to the party and make sure he doesn’t make an arse of himself.”
The party was in full swing. Many students, of every house, joined in the spacious common room and were drinking as if they were all going to be killed in the morning. Each of the boys stood next to each other, holding a drink in their hands and watching Sirius’ every move. Sirius, nearly blacked out drunk, was chugging fire whiskey and wine as if it were his job. His booming laugh could be heard over the music and the chattering of students. Lily Evans made her way through the crowd, James could spot her red hair drifting down her shoulders and a look of pure annoyance on her face.
“A party, really?” she said angrily.
“I don’t know what to tell you,” James sighed.
“We couldn’t stop him even if we tried.” Peter backed James up. The four Gryffindor students looked back at the crowd who were cheering on Sirius as he threw back a bottle of whiskey.
“Amazing,” Lily said sarcastically, taking a place next to Remus. “So while Sirius is pissing himself drunk, Y/N was crying in the library.”
“She was crying?” Remus asked, dumbfounded.
“Of course she was!” Lily hissed before realizing her harsh tone. She mumbled a small apology to her friend who nodded in reply, “She’s... she’s. I’ve never seen her so sad.”
“We’ve never seen Sirius like this either,” Remus agreed.
“Oh no,” Peter said before pointing at Sirius. Sirius had a girl, a Ravenclaw, in a corner, making teasing eyes as they flirted with each other. The girl reached up and fixed Sirius’ collar, placing her hand on his chest before wrapping her fingers around something. A chain. Sirius had put the necklace back on, perhaps as a sign of mourning, and there she was, clinging onto it as some flirtatious gesture. Sirius, in his alcohol-induced state, didn’t notice and continued to lean closer to the girl, motioning for her to kiss him.
“We need to stop him!” Lily cried, “I just saw Y/N in the corridor, she’s coming back to the dorm to sleep!” Before James could race across the common room and pull his drunkard friend away, the marauders and Lily stared horror as your figure came through the door. You looked around at the party with such sorrowful eyes, sighing to yourself. Each and every one of them thanked the stars as you saw Lily and pushed your way through the swinging crowd. Lily reached forward and gripped your arms.
“Who decided to have a party?” you asked quietly. The boys, each who loved you with all their soul, tried to make a barrier to protect your eyes from the ghastly sight of your ex-boyfriend snogging another girl barely twenty-four hours after your break up.
“Not sure, darling,” James said, putting a comforting hand on your back, gently pushing you away, “Maybe one of the Prewitt twins.”
“How about we go upstairs? We can find Marlene and have a cup of tea instead of being around these unruly teenagers.” Lily smiled gently, hoping, begging that you wouldn’t turn around. You nodded and began to walk towards the stairs before looking at the boys, counting their heads.
“James... Remus, where’s Sirius?” you asked, your voice nearly breaking at his name,
“Uh,” Remus stuttered, “I’m not sure, maybe off uh, in the Black Lake or something, you know how he is.” he chuckled nervously.
“Peter?” you looked at the small boy who fumbled with the sleeves of his sweater.
“What’s going on?” you asked suspiciously.
“What? Nothing’s going on. What’s going on is you’re missing that good old cuppa Evans is offering you, if it were up to me I’d already be up there in my pajamas, ready to be tucked in by her!” James said as quickly as he could, looking at the boys nervously.
“Is something the matter? Did he get hurt?” you asked fast, worry seeping into your brow. Before anyone could stop you, before anyone could race you upstairs, you turned around and nearly fell to your feet. There, the boy you were in love with, was passionately snogging another girl. A girl who wasn’t you. You felt your heart drop and bile rise to your throat as you saw the chain clutched in her fingers and Sirius’ hands cupping her cheeks the way he used to do with you.
“Oh.” you choked out, tears already forming in your eyes.
“Y/N...” Remus cautiously said, putting his arm around you.
“Did... did you all know?” you looked at your friends who slowly nodded with self-hatred. They were so angry with themselves, angry with the situation, angry with letting you down and seeing the hurt drip onto your cheeks as you began to cry. You wiped the tears with your palm as your breath became ragged.
“I’m sorry.” James pulled you in for a tight hug. Lily’s hand found yours and Remus left his hand on the small of your back. James could feel the tears seep into his sweater and your hiccups as you cried. He held his friend closely and felt fury for his other. You pulled away, wiping your tears again. You looked down at your shoes as Lily said.
“Do you want to go upstairs? We can leave right now,” your friend said comfortingly, rubbing your arms. You couldn’t find yourself. Every word, every phrase you had learned since you were a child left your vocabulary as you were left nothing but silent. You heard the hushed whispers of your friends who were all worried about your emotional state. You couldn’t stop yourself. You painfully looked up again, looking through the heads and shoulders of your classmates to make eye contact with Sirius. His eyes met your teary ones. He looked from your distraught face down to the girl in front of him who was fiddling with the necklace and the ring you had given him for your anniversary. Suddenly, Sirius felt sick. He tasted the lip gloss of the girl had just kissed. He tasted the fire whiskey on his breath. He tasted the disgust he felt for himself. He looked back at you, your eyes not leaving his.
“No.” He whispered to himself. No. No. What had he done? What the fuck did he do? He untangled himself from the girl who gasped in confusion. He watched you desperately as Lily tried to guide you up the stairs. He pushed and prodded and reached out for you with his hand stretched. He was so close to touching you, so close to feeling your breath when he felt a hand placed firmly on his chest.
“Let her go.” James said as seriously as he could, pushing his best friend away.
“Prongs, let me go! I have to, I have to talk to her.” Sirius fought against James’ grip. “Let me fucking go! Let me go see my girlfriend, you fuckers!” Sirius yelled in fury.
“Sirius.” James finally said firmly, “Leave her alone. You’ve done enough damage.”
Sirius looked to Remus who also shook his head and then to Peter who looked up at him through eyelashes. He thrashed until your body disappeared from his sight, his mouth agape in agony. He turned to his friends infuriated and said with rage, “What the hell?”
“Sirius, calm down,” Remus said gently, grabbing on his arm.
“No! Fuck you! Fuck you guys! That’s my girlfriend!” Sirius’ words were slightly slurred and he only saw red at that moment.
“No. Not anymore,” Peter crossed his arms, feeling quite angry himself. “And you need to leave her alone now.” Sirius turned with such vigor and seething anger that he raised his shaking fist to punch Peter square in the face. James’ eyes widened as he quickly pulled Sirius away. Remus caught Peter and looked him over and Peter held his face in his hands. Remus quickly asked if he was alright and then stood to face Sirius with a fuming look.
“Peter...” Sirius said, guilt flooding his veins, “I’m... I’m sorry, mate. I’m so sorry. I don’t know what the hell is happening to me.”
“I’d like to know too!” James yelled, “Who the fuck are you? This isn’t you, Sirius! This emotionless, bastard of a man in front of me is not my best mate, so who the hell are you?”
“I’m sorry!”
“No, you’re not!” James argued, “You need to pull yourself together, man. You’re fucking tearing yourself apart!”
“I’m fine!” Sirius begged, holding his head in his hands.
“This isn’t fine.” Remus shook his head, “James is right, this isn’t you.”
“I’m sorry!” Sirius cried, wiping his face with anguish. He looked at his friends who stared at him in such disappointment and anger. He couldn’t take it. Sirius was so angry at himself, angry at the world. He was so frustrated that he wanted to scream. Without another word, Sirius Black left the common room into the dark night.
It was past two in the morning when Sirius returned. The party had ended a while ago and Remus had Peter sat on his bed with an ice pack on his eye. Peter sighed and put the pack on his lap before saying,
“Maybe we were too hard on him.”
“Too hard on him?” Remus asked angrily before pushing Peter’s hand to place the ice on his eye again, “I think we were too easy on him.”
“I don’t know, did you see his face? He’s... not himself.” Peter mumbled.
“Yes, but it’s not an excuse to act like a complete dick head.”
The door creaked open as Sirius stumbled in. He shut the door and stared at his best friends. James was leaning against the bedpost, fiddling with his golden snitch, Remus was stood beside Peter who had a split lip and a black eye.
“You’re back.” James stood up taller to face him.
“Yeah.”
“Where did you go?” Remus questioned,
“I took a walk.” It was quiet before someone spoke.
“What happened out there, man?” James started, “you were out of control, you were pissed drunk, and... you punched Peter.”
“I know.”
“Is that all you can say?”
“I know I fucked up. I’m sorry.” Sirius turned to Peter, “I’m so sorry, Wormtail.”
Peter stood and dropped the ice pack on his bed. He looked at Sirius with sincerity, “It’s alright, Padfoot, just a bruise is all.”
“Sirius, you have to tell us what’s happening. It’s... extremely hard to see you like this.” Remus crossed his arms.
“I know.”
“Pad, you know you can tell us anything. You know that right?” James furrowed his eyebrows in concern.
“I know.” Sirius paused to glance up from his shoes and into the peering sight of his friends. “I just.”
“What is it, Sirius?” James whispered.
“I’m...” he was lost. He couldn’t speak. He couldn’t talk. He couldn’t feel anything but the swallowing pain of heartbreak. “I’m. I just. I’m.” He couldn’t. Sirius let out a sob, his shoulders wracking and he felt his ribs clatter against his heart. Salty tears dripped down Sirius’ face as he wept in mourning for his lost love. He expected his friends to hate him, he expected you to hate him. But, instead of the cold shoulder, James reached out for his brother and pulled him into his arms. James hugged him tightly, putting his hand on the back of Sirius’ head. Sirius slinked into his arms and cried further into his shoulder.
“I fucked up.”
James stiffened, gripping him for dear life, “I know.”
“I don’t know what to do.”
“I know. It’s okay.”
Sirius pushed James away softly and frantically wiped his tears, “It’s not okay! I lost her. I fucked up. I’m a fuck up. I lost her. I love her.” James quickly pulled him into another hug, “I love her, James. I love her so much.”
“It’s okay. It’ll be okay.”
“James, I love her.”
“I know.”
As Sirius felt his breath leave his lungs, his brother held him closer, hoping with every inch in his body that the hurt you and Sirius felt would disappear in the morning. And there, the marauders watched, all mourning in mutual sadness. The boys looked at each other and nodded, silently agreeing that they would do anything and everything to piece the love you shared back together.

Wolfstar x Showing Affection (feat. oblivious James)
Sirius is very tactile.
He shows affection through hugging—hugs, hand-holding, playing with people's hair, just random mindless touching throughout the day.
Remus is more verbally affecionate.
He will constantly gives compliments—"i love your dress," "your hair looks great today," etc.
Unless he really likes someone.
Then he just
Stop talking.
Okay, back to Sirius.
Sirius seems like the 'heartless bad boy,' but he's a real softie when it comes to his friends.
He is constantly showing them affection.
Ruffling James' hair (much to James' chagrin).
Flinging himself dramatically over Remus' lap in the common room.
Putting his arms around his friends while they're walking down the corridors.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), he flirts much the same way.
Nobody would ever know this, of course, because he doesn't actually first with anyone.
Except for Remus.
"But what about all those girls who fall at his feet?"
He's naturally charming, okay? Give him a break.
Anyway, his flirting felt a lot like his friendship.
Sirius figured out he was gay at the end of third year or beginning of fourth, and realized he liked Remus a little later.
But you would never know it.
Sirius was constantly flirting with Remus.
But nobody knew.
Remus realized he liked Sirius a little later, maybe middle to end of fourth year.
Sirius gets really anxious when Remus stops talking to him.
"What did I do?"
"Is he okay?"
"Does he hate me?"
"Why?"
Pining, blah blah blah. Minor angst, blah blah blah.
They get together—yay!
They decide they don't want to tell anyone just yet, not even their closest friends.
And nobody can tell.
They're openly flirting.
Nobody knows.
Sirius will literally walk into the common room and sit in Remus' lap and start playing with his hair, and James will just be like
"Oh, hey Padfoot."
Remus will be showering Sirius with compliments about how pretty his eyes are, how soft his hair is, and Peter just goes
"Oh yeah, Sirius, you have to tell me what shampoo you use."
(It's Fleamont's Sleakeazy Potions—the one James refuses to use, even though Fleamont readily gave both James and Sirius a lifetime supply).
They will literally walk down the halls holding hands
Regulus will give Sirius a knowing smile
(He knows. Obviously).
Lily will give the same smile to Remus.
James and Peter will just think
"Oh that's just something we do know, I guess?"
Remus decides they need to tell them, it's getting painful to watch.
Sirius disagrees, and, because he's Sirius, wonders how long they can keep going before anyone notices.
Okay, so they're not telling anyone just yet.
But they're not holding back, either.
One night, Sirius decides to go to bed, so he gets up and kisses Remus on the forehead.
"Mate, you're gonna kiss Moons but not me? When did he become your best friend?" James whines.
Sirius and Remus look at each other and snicker.
Sirius just tousles James' hair.
"Alright, fine. But I will get a kiss from you before the week is out!"
"Alright, Prongs, whatever you say."
Remus goes red, from embarrassment and from trying to hold his laughter in.
At breakfast, Sirius and James probably do something stupid.
Remus tells Sirius, "you're lucky you're so damn adorable, or I might actually be mad."
James takes offense.
"What, I'm not cute enough for you?"
Remus is admitted to the hospital wing after a particularly bad moon.
Madam Pomfrey lets them stay, mostly because the combined forces of Sirius' desperation and James' annoyingness is enough to make her fear for her life.
Anyway.
Sirius steps out for a minute, because Remus is asleep anyway.
And while he's gone, Remus asks after him.
"S'r'us?"
He's still half asleep, and doesn't know Sirius left.
"S'r'us? Can you..." he trails off, but moves over to the far side of the bed.
Well. Sirius isn't there.
But James is.
He gets the message, and climbs into bed beside Remus.
They've never done this before, but hey, what a sleepy, injured, post-moon Remus wants, he gets.
So James wraps an arm around Remus and pulls him close.
(Honestly, get you a friend like James).
So then Sirius comes back.
And sees his best friend cuddling with his boyfriend.
He clears his throat.
"James, what the fuck?" he asks calmly.
"Oh, he asked for you, but you weren't here. I guess he wanted cuddles or something, so I figured I'd fill in for you. So here we are."
"James," Sirius deadpanned. "That's my boyfriend you're cuddling with."
James sat up so quickly Sirius was honestly impressed Remus didn't wake up.
"Boyfriend?!?"
"Boyfriend," Sirius confirms.
"How long??"
"Few months now."
"Wha– but I– you– what?!?!?!"
It's safe to say James is in shock.
"Why didn't you tell me??" he finally asks.
"Are you honestly blind?" Sirius asks.
"Have you not seen us flirting? Cuddling? Eye-fucking across the room?"
"I thought that was just something you did!!"
James is still in shock.
And totally oblivious.
"It is something we do. Because we're dating. We wake up in the same bed every morning."
"AS BROS DO."
James eventually calms down. Their argument conversation has now woken Remus up.
"James, what are you doing in my bed?"
"We've been over this already," Sirius said.
"By the way, he knows now."
"Oh good. How's he taking it?"
"Not sure," Sirius says. "James?"
"Huh? I mean... yeah. I'm happy for you, obviously. And it's fine that you're gay, or whatever. I don't care about that. But what the fuck??"
Alright then. That's how he's taking it.
James never did get that kiss.

Touch prompt
19. High fiving.
Blackevans would be ace but any marauder/jily combo that works for you :) thanks!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy :) also found on AO3 - can be read on its own but is a continuation of 'Just a Touch'
Lily faltered. She had walked down to the common room to sit in front of the fire and read her new book, she was hoping no one was around at this time of night.
But there sat, the one thing she had been avoiding.
Sirius Black was lounging on the sofa, his head tilted back and his eyes closed. He wasn’t sleeping, Lily could see his fingers tapping up and down on the armchair.
She took a deep breath and walked over, curling herself on the other side of the sofa. She faced him, knees tucked under her bum.
She had always gotten along with Sirius, something about them both having a terrible home life, they often found each other sitting up late at night and sat in each other's silence comfortably. It was nice to not have to explain why she was angry or upset, like Black understood her need to be sullen and contemplative.
They hadn’t done this in a long time.
“He’s why you’ve been avoiding me” Sirius’ voice broke her out of her thinking. He had opened his eyes but his head was still resting on the back of the sofa.
“I’m sorry we didn't tell you” she whispered.
“I just don’t understand why he didn’t tell me.”
Lily pursed her lips. She had always found Sirius easier to talk to when it was just the two of them, he was actually very wise when he wasn’t joking around. She liked how he could smile at the serious moments while also throwing some sage advice her way.
“I told him not to tell anyone” she whispered.
“Remus knew,” he snapped.
He wasn’t lounging back anymore, he had lifted his torso off the sofa and was now resting his forearms on his knees.
“He figured it out, caught us one time” Lily said softly.
“My own boyfriend didn’t tell me” he muttered, “Why couldn’t anyone trust me?”
“We do trust you,” Lily said sternly.
He looked at her, his eyebrows drawn together.
“I asked James to keep it from you until we knew what we both wanted. I don’t think I could handle you being disappointed in me”
“Disappointed?”
“You were always the one to tell me to give James a go, what if I fucked it up? James has me on a pedestal, so do you! What if I tried to date James and it didn’t work? Everyone would blame me! James would never give up on dating me” Lily rambled, her nerves getting the best of her, the truth, her own thoughts spilling out.
Sirius looked at Lily bemused.
“You can’t honestly tell me that you were worried about disappointing me? Sirius Black?” His voice was teasing and Lily narrowed her eyes in response.
“Well I care about what you think, you’re my friend. Aren't you?”
Sirius furrowed his brows.
“Well yeah but James is my best friend and he didn’t tell me that he was dating the love of his life?” he balled his fists.
“It's only been a few weeks, we were still trying to figure things out before telling you properly. I think James wanted to prove that he was serious about me” Lily thought out loud.
“Only a few weeks?” Sirius asked, surprised.
“Yeah” Lily bit her lip, trying to keep the smile appearing on her face as she remembered jumping on James only a few weeks ago. She had been crushing on him for a while but was worried she wouldn’t live up to his expectations but then one day after their rounds, he had said something so sweet and honest, she couldn’t help but kiss him.
“You’ve only been dating for a few weeks?” Sirius' tone was laced with humour and got Lily confused.
“Yeah?”
“And you’re already shagging?” Sirius’ eyes were now sparkling with humour.
Lily bit her lip, stopping the laugh from escaping and encouraging Sirius’ teasing.
“I couldn’t resist?” Lily shrugged, giving him a smirk.
Sirius burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking, his hands squeezing his knees.
Lily couldn’t help but laugh along with him. That was the thing with Sirius, once he laughed, everyone was laughing alongside him, it was infectious.
“So you made the first move, not James?” Sirius said between gulps of laughter.
“Yeah, at first he kept trying to stop me from putting my hands down his trousers”
Sirius bellowed another laugh.
“Merlin, Evans” He huffed between small bouts of laughter.
“Will you forgive us? Forgive James, at the very least. He loves you” Lily said softly.
Sirius nodded.
“He loves you more though,” Sirius whispered. He was staring at the roaring fire, his elbows still resting on his knees.
“He really doesn’t'' Lily smiled. They hadn’t said the ‘I love you’s’ yet, and she knew deep down in her heart that James did love her because she loved him too. But the love he had was different, it was deeper, more cemented, he was his brother.
Sirius looked at her, one eyebrow raised.
“Evans, he’s been pining for you for years. I should have known that something was happening, he hasn't begged me to talk to you about him for weeks”
“He used to beg you to talk to me?”
“Yeah” Sirius huffed another laugh, “I told him I would only say something if you brought him up, I wasn’t going to force the conversation about that specky git” he grinned, his famous Sirius Black cocky smile.
“He’s pretty great though - James. I get why you love him so much” Lily said wistfully.
Sirius leaned back, finally relaxing into the sofa. His grin turned mischievous.
“You love him don’t you”
Lily faltered, again. She wasn’t going to tell Sirius before James.
“It's only been a few weeks,” she whispered, more to herself than Sirius.
Sirius nodded, but gave her a knowing smile.
“So -” Sirius perked up, his eyebrows wagging, Lily narrowed her eyes waiting for his usual mischief to make an appearance after such a look, “-how did he handle himself when he saw your starker's for the first time?”
All Lily could do was laugh. The type of laughter that made her bones tingle and relief rush through her chest. She was hoping Sirius wouldn’t begrudge her for telling James not to tell him straight away. Sirius Black was too good of a friend.
“Black, you should have seen his face. Never seen him turn so white” she said between giggles.
Sirius grinned, chuckling softly.
Lily yawned and picked herself off the sofa. She stopped behind the sofa, just behind where Sirius sat.
“Are you going to forgive him?” Lily asked.
Sirius turned and smiled softly.
“I’ll always forgive him Lils, just do me a favour?”
Lily cocked an eyebrow.
“Don’t tell him, I want him to grovel a bit more. He’s writing my Charms paper as we speak”
Lily grinned cheekily. Before she could reply, James came tumbling down the boy's staircase.
“Lils,” he said, shocked at her presence. His face lit up and made Lily smile instantaneously. He turned his attention to the room, finding his best mate sitting on the couch. Looking between the pair with wide eyes, he coughed awkwardly.
“Hey Padfoot. Um - uh-”
Sirius sighed loudly, and rather dramatically Lily thought.
“It’s alright you know, you don’t have to hide from me anymore - or did you get off on not telling anyone?” Sirius said, his teasing tone had vanished.
Lily narrowed her eyes but before she could say something, Sirius winked at her as James turned his gaze to his girlfriend.
Oh.
“Um, no of course not. Mate you know I wanted to tell you but we were taking it slow” James said with a sigh.
“Mhm, alright.” Sirius said, waving his hand dismissively.
“Look, let me help you with that Defense essay as well. I mean, it's the least I could do. I’m really sorry mate you know that” James rambled, pushing his glasses up his nose nervously.
Lily had to really bite down hard to stop her grin.
Sirius pretended to think about James' proposition, tapping his fingers against his chin.
“I mean, it's the least James can do,” Lily added, squeezing her boyfriend's arm. James turned to give her a tight smile, making her heart leap and second-guess this little joke Sirius was playing out. But then James turned to Sirius and Sirius smiled.
“Fine, I guess it's the least you could do. Maybe you could also name your first born after me?”
Lily scoffed.
“No way”
Sirius grinned at her.
“Ok, can I be godfather?”
Lily smiled, watching James nodding furiously.
“Who said we were having any children?” Lily joked, narrowing her eyes at Sirius.
James flipped his attention to his girlfriend, his mouth wide open. He was so nervous, flipping his attention back and forth between Sirius and Lily, Lily couldn’t help but giggle.
“Um-” James said.
“Better get to that essay, Prongs” Sirius nudged his friend up the staircase.
James nodded obediently before giving Lily a kiss on the cheek and running back up the stairs.
“Wait James!” Lily cried out, making James stop.
“Yeah?”
“Can I come visit you later tonight? Maybe we could practice making those babies?” She smiled innocently, trying to keep the laughter that was begging to be spilled as Sirius bellowed loudly behind her.
James tripped up the next step at Lily’s words, his face bright red.
“Fuck” she heard him mutter, “yeah, definitely, uh huh” he mumbled, giving her a sweet smile before running back up the stairs and too his dorm.
“Nice one, Lils” Sirius said, leaning over and holding up his hand for a high five.
Lily smiled before slapping her palm against Sirius, watching Sirius smirk and wink in return.

Sirius tries to remember Remus.
Post-Azkaban Wolfstar: Angst with Hopeful Ending.
Sirius is battling with his memory after Azkaban. 12 years of dementors torturing him, that had caused some real damages to his brain. He doesn’t remember people until they introduce themselves to him. Everyone is steering clear his way but Remus hasn’t given up on him yet.
These days are sickening. They make you feel so lonely and ugly. They tell you—no they scream at you that you don’t deserve anything. Know why? Because you don’t matter. You don’t exist. The most horrifying thing about those voices is that they can make you believe they are saying the truth. Like I did. And I still do, and believe me, it’s not good.
Life is just unfair is so easy to say, it’s just a slip of tongue as if you are consoling a group of people, like Madam Hooch used to when we would lose to Slytherins because they played dirty. However, realizing the fact how unfair life really is, is gut-wrenching. It forces you to become unlike yourself. It puts malevolent ideas in your head for the people who you love—or used to loved. I would go on and blame these walls, but then I’m questioning the universe that why did I have to be born here? The Grimmauld Place 12? And then I’m eventually answered; Life is unfair, you git, haven’t you get it yet?
The nights are terrible here, I hear Kreacher whispering to my charming mother’s portrait, I hear the floor creaking even though no one comes here, except they are invited by Dumbledore—which sounds weird because it’s my house but again, life is just unfair.
Right now, I’m struggling to sleep because there is a prickling fear sitting at the edges of my body. The fear of Dementors for taking the last of everything away.
I still have some good memories, like the one when James made me Harry’s Godfather. Harry’s big emerald eyes were streaming with fat tears until he was given into my arms. I can remember that I had gasped at the scene, and so did the others in the room.
“Oh Sirius! He was crying for like an hour! But he stops now!? I swear this is not a coincidence!” Lily said, but James had been quiet.
“Prongs?” No answer.
“Prongsie? Hey!” Because I caught him pressing his hand on his mouth forcefully, his face blotchy, and he didn’t stop sniffing. He was crying! “What? Like you—father and son both work alternatively? When Harry stops crying, he transfers his weeping mantra to you, and vice versa?”
“Shut up!” Before I said something, I let out an ‘oof’ because James shoved me in his embrace, sandwiching Harry in middle of the process. Harry was giggling with his tear-stained face. His laugh was like music to my ears. I didn’t mention that. I was in love with Harry. He felt like my own child. I never thought I’d feel this exuberance but there was, more than I expected. I was bad at displaying true affection in front of people, but I couldn’t help when Harry’s tiny and chubby hands brushed the collar of my jacket, utterly in awe with the feeling of material on his fingers, I completely forgot James was hugging me, and I managed to press a kiss on Harry’s cheek. He smelled like soft babies. I was in love with that scent. I wanted to hold him forever.
I can never forget that memory. It helps me cast a patronus. There is also something vague about that memory. There is someone too in the small crowd, behind me, other than James. I can remember there was the blonde girl, Mckinnon, and her best friend, Meadows-something. I struggle with names. Sometimes I forget—
“Sirius?”
—Remus’ name. I have to see or hear the person to see if I can remember.
“I’m in my room?” He calls me out every time for like the hundredth time he has found me in my bedroom, and yes, I am still in my bedroom. He won’t stop calling me out. Sometimes, he is very annoying.
“Oh yeah, Of course.” He appears at the doorway, leaning to his left, smiling weakly. He looks tired. He is short of breath. I want to give him a glass of water but my limbs are protesting.
“I could give you a glass of water, but I—just don’t feel like getting up.” I didn’t want to say that but I did because the expressions on Remus’ face are priceless. There is awkwardness written on his face with a hint of shock and sadness. There is nothing pretty about that, but it brings back an indistinct memory I enjoy that I cannot tell. I am disturbing. That’s another trait I have discovered about myself ever since I came back from Azkaban.
“No, it’s alright. I just had water. Not thirsty at all. I—umm…I brought you something.” He says, and then I notice a package in his hand.
“Hope it’s not something you and your werewolf buddies plays with.”
“Ha, no, I wish. But it’s something I needed to give you…from a very long time.” He comes and sits beside me. I had to sit up because I can’t let him touch me. I don’t know why but I am always scared of Remus Lupin, and it is my secret, “Here.” He gives me the package, and looks into my eyes. I try looking away but I couldn’t try harder.
“Happy Birthday.” He whispers, and it sends a shudder to my body. What is the date today?
I open the package, and there it is. A photo frame. It was a leather frame. Black. I am trying not to look at the picture so I distract myself by admiring the leather. And again, I remember Harry. But it is a forced visualization so it doesn’t last longer. I am very much aware of Remus’ presence. I am also getting short of breath now. I look at him and he is already staring at me. I smile at him, but he frowns. And then I frown, too. What is wrong? I saw his hand coming up near my face, and I bat away.
He is gawking at him with wide and horrified eyes, and a hurt expression.
“I—I’m sorry. I don’t…I just—I am sorry. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I know you don’t. But you eventually do.” It doesn’t come out bitter. He is smiling at me, but he isn’t done talking, “Sirius, I want to talk. It is eating me alive. Sometimes, I don’t think I am left with much longer in me…But, hey,” He reaches out but stops immediately, “Please…I—I want to talk to you about…Everything or anything. We can talk about us?”
“Us?”
“Yeah…If you want to,”
“There is no Us, Remus.”
“There used to be.” I snort, but he is frowning. I hate his frowns. Why can’t he just smile like a normal person?
“Like what? Did we snog? Or shagged once or twice?” I can’t recall any heterosexual experience, so I can’t say I have never done anything with a guy.
“Sirius, was that picture not enough?” He said with such sadness. And then I look at the picture.
And then I see it. There is a younger version of Remus Lupin, wearing a giant grey jumper, sitting on a library’s table. How decent. There is someone in between his legs, standing before him. It is a dark-haired guy, wearing a Gryffindor tie on his hogwarts’ uniform. He has his hands wrapped around Remus’ torso. A thick curtain of his long hair is almost concealing the half of his face, considering how much it is already buried in Remus’ chest. He squeezes gleefully which causes the younger Remus to erupt with laughter. The scene goes back and forth. And then I spot two people sitting in far distance. They were unmistakably James and Lily. They are the only people I recognize. Those two are cackling because how stupidly romantic the two boys are acting against each other. The picture keeps playing, and I focus again on the couple in the spotlight, and I realize that little Remus is trying to press a kiss on the guy’s forehead but the other person doesn’t stand still, constantly whipped his long hair—and then I freeze all of a sudden. Because I see it. The grey eyes, the long hair, and especially the scar on the left wrist, which still glows sliver in the daylight when I secretly stand in the balcony.
“That is us.” It comes out of my mouth even though I never expect myself to say it.
“Yeah, you and me. We were not just each other’s quick snog, or shagging partner. We go way back, Padfoot. Longer than James and Lily.”
“I don’t remember you…” It comes out as a whimper. I feel stupid and vulnerable.
“I’m sorry, Sirius. I’m sorry for what I did. I never apologized about this…I wanted to—“
“I don’t remember you…”
“—but I never really got a chance. I’m sorry I thought you could betray the Potters. I’m sorry that I kept myself believing for twelve years that it was you. But I swear to Merlin, I never stopped loving you—“
“I don’t remember you, Remus…” But he is not listening.
“—I used to hate myself for this. I felt disgusting that I still loved you. And then I melted myself in filthy thoughts. No one was there to judge me. I used to picture you all the time, sitting on the sofa waiting for me to come back from the muggle job you hated. I used to see you laying on the bed in the night. I used to imagine myself cuddling up with you. And some days, it was so real that we used to talk till dawn. We used to watch the sunrise together. October 31st used to come and go by, and we pretended it was just another Halloween and you used to say ‘Moony, you hate Halloween because some people dress up as werewolves, and you don’t get to wear a costume!’—“
I stop saying anything. I cannot tell that I don’t remember him because I do. His hand accidently rubs shoulder, and I am suddenly yanked to my happiest memory—Harry’s beautiful hands reaching my jacket—and the ‘someone’ is not just someone who is behind me, rubbing my lower back and laying his head against mine, because it was him. It was Remus Lupin. It is still Remus Lupin, I want him to be.
I cannot tell that I don’t remember him because I am starting to…and it’s a start. He keeps telling me how he spent the last twelve years, so I listen to him because my years were not in an open cage just like his. It was scary to be locked up for years and never to see the people you love, but it must have been even scarier to be free for years and never see the people you love. Remus Lupin has suffered too, and I can’t help but be there for him.
So as he keeps rambling his stories about his undying love for me, I slip into his space, and wrap my arms around his torso, like I had in the picture, and bury my face into his chest. He is not warmer as he must have been in that picture but it calms me down because his heart is beating against mine, and I am happy to have him alive with me.
Thanks for reading! Stay magical!

Catching Up
This is a Harry Potter tickle fic requested by an anon. I’ve never written in the style of parents and kids before so this was new. I wrote it very late last night so I hope it’s okay!
Word count: 1744
Summary: Harry dreams of his parents but once again finds himself in trouble.
------------------------------------------
“Where is it?” Sirius asked for the fourth time.
“I’M NOHOHOHOT TELLING” Harry screamed out, desperately trying to escape Sirius’ clutches.
Harry had hidden Sirius’ pocket watch somewhere around the house purely for his own entertainment. But it backfired on him when Sirius decided to hold Harry from behind and tickle the hiding place out of him.
“I’m gonna ask one more time, where is it?” Sirius asked, his hands now snaking into Harry’s armpits.
“NOHOHOHOHO” Harry shrieked, kicking his legs out as much as he could.
“Tell me, or I’m gonna get that ticklish little tummy of yours” Sirius warned.
“OHOHOHOKAY FINE, I-ITS UHUHUNDER YOUR PILLOW” Harry yelled out, laughing loudly. Sirius stopped abruptly.
“Under my pillow?”
“Y-yes. I was gonna pretend like you had it all along,” Harry panted out. Sirius drew in a fake gasp. He leaned in close to Harry and whispered in his ear.
“So you mean to tell me that not only did you steal my pocket watch, but you were gonna blame me it all on me?” Sirius asked. Harry giggled as Sirius’ breath reached his ears. He tried touching his ear to his neck but Sirius was blocking it so he couldn’t escape the light tickles.
“Yehehehes, I’m sohohohory” Harry giggled out.
“You’re sorry?” Sirius asked, “You’re sorry?!” his voice boomed.
“You set me up and all you can say is sorry?!” His hands started tickling rapidly around Harry’s tummy. Harry instantly screamed and collapsed into laughter.
“SIRIUS WAHAHAHAIT!”
“No no, I’ve got to tickle the cheeky monkey out of you. It’s the only way!” Sirius said, attacking Harry’s poor ticklish tummy. Harry very quickly fell to silent laughter and didn’t have the strength to fight back. Sirius laughed with him then decided to go easy on the poor boy. He stopped the attack and cuddled Harry close.
“I-I’m sorry” Harry breathed out quietly.
“I know, I know” Sirius said, kissing his head gently.
“Right you, I think you’ve had enough tickles today, time for bed I think.” Sirius said. Harry nodded and let out a little sigh but Sirius could tell her was exhausted. He lifted up the small boy and carried him to bed. Harry drifted off very quickly.
“Harry? Harry?”
Harry slowly opened his eyes. He was still in bed.
“Harry?”
He turned around and saw two figures standing in the doorway. They were both blurry. Harry reached over for his glasses. Once he put them on he instantly recognised the two figures.
“Mum? Dad?” He asked, confused.
“Hey son,” James replied. They both approached him and sat on the end of his bed.
“Wait, what? What are you doing here?” Harry asked.
“Just wanted to check in on you. Make sure you’re doing okay.” Lily said, she reached over and moved his hair out of his face and gently stroked his cheek.
“You’ve gotten so big now! Where has that time gone?” She asked, smiling at him. Harry looked at her, puzzled.
“I-” Harry began.
“It’s okay, I know this might be a shock but we’re here now. I promise.” James said.
“So, what’s my boy been up to eh? We saw you got into Gryffindor! And it looks like you made some great friends. Even rescued my best friend!” James said, smiling at Harry.
“Yeah, um, yeah.” Harry was speechless.
“I never need rescuing, James” came a voice from the doorway. Sirius was leant up against the doorframe. James laughed.
“I always ended up rescuing you, Sirius.”
“No no, you lie. I always rescued you.”
The pair looked at each other and burst into laughter. James stood up from the bed and they both embraced each other in a hug.
“Oh I’ve missed you, Padfoot.”
“I’ve missed you too, Prongs.”
“I trust you’ve been taking good care of my boy?” James asked, pulling away from the hug.
“Of course. He’s safe with me. Except for when he gets cheeky.” Sirius winked at Harry.
“Well he gets that from his father,” Lily said.
“Doesn’t he just.” Sirius replied.
“Me? Cheeky? Never!” James said, mock hurt on his face. Harry let out a little giggle. James looked at him.
“You’ve been testing Sirius I see? That’s my boy.” James said, ruffling his hair.
“Yeah I have. But better.” Harry said. James stopped and stared at him.
“Excuse me?” James said.
“I’m better at testing him” Harry piped up, surprised at this sudden confidence.
“Like father like son” Lily said, smiling. James looked at her, then at Sirius, then back at Harry.
“Told you he’s a cheeky sod.” Sirius said, smirking.
“Alright son, you may know how to test him but you’re not the best here. I’ve known him longer.” James said. Harry raised an eyebrow at him.
“I’ve lived with him for two years now, I know how to push his buttons and how to get away with it. It’s a trick you have when you’re young.” Harry sassed. James slightly opened his mouth. Sirius let out a little giggle.
“Oh? Is that so? Don’t forget I used to be your age. I knew Sirius then too.” James responded.
“Yeah but you’re ancient now, and Sirius could easily catch up to you. He’s a lot slower now, I can easily outrun him.” Harry said.
“Excuse me? Ancient?” James said.
“I am not slow!” Sirius protested. Lily giggled.
“You are though. It took you ages to catch me earlier.”
“Oh? You want to go again? Cause I’ll take you again, no problem!” Sirius challenged.
Harry got out of bed and squared up to Sirius. He looked him dead in the eye before yelling “GO!” and legging it out of the room.
“OI!” James and Sirius yelled together before chasing him down the stairs. Harry circled the sofa before realising he had messed up. He stood at the front of the sofa and normally he’d have Sirius on the other side so he could play him by running the opposite way. But this time he had Sirius approaching from one side and James on the other. He made a quick decision and ran straight for the sofa James and Sirius both went to grab him but missed. Harry had just jumped over the sofa before he was grabbed and thrown back onto it. He looked up and found that Lily had caught him.
“That’s my girl!” James said.
“Yes Lily!” Sirius cheered. They both approached Harry, now lying on the sofa.
“Now then. You still think you’re better than me?” James asked, kneeling next to him. Harry nodded.
“Interesting.” James said. He walked his hand up Harry’s side and Harry giggled.
“I had a feeling you were ticklish!” James said. Sirius scoffed.
“Ticklish is an understatement, that boy is ridiculously sensitive.”
“Is that so?” James said, smirking at Harry. He squeezed both of Harry’s sides and he shrieked.
“DAD NO!” Harry yelled.
“I’ve got 14 years to catch up on! All these tickles you’ve missed out on from me!” James teased, not easing up on his son. His hands shot under Harry’s arms and Harry arched his back and screamed.
“Easy James,” Lily said.
“He’s alright Lil, he’s had worse from me” Sirius said, calming her.
“Oi James, I know all his bad spots if you really want to get him.” Sirius said. James stopped and looked at him.
“Do go on.”
Sirius approached Harry and winked at him.
“Sirius please don't,” Harry pleaded.
“James, you may wanna watch out. He’s gonna kick” Sirius warned. He launched a ten finger attack on Harry’s tummy. Shaking his hands and wiggling his fingers deep into the sensitive tummy. Harry screamed loudly and collapsed back into laughter.
“Right here James, this is his worst spot,” Sirius informed. James smiled at his son being tickled by his best mate.
“Alright alright Sirius, I want a go. He’s my son.” James said. He switched places with Sirius and attacked Harry’s ticklish tummy. Harry fell in and out of silent laughter.
“This is how fathers and sons bond, right?” James asked. He looked at Lily who was smiling sweetly at him. Her heart was full at the sound of her son’s laughter. James kept this up for a few minutes until Harry was red in the face.
“Alright James, don’t kill him” Lily laughed. James eased up.
“You okay son?” He asked. Harry nodded. James slowly lifted him up into a sitting position and pulled him into a cuddle. Harry rested his head into James’ shoulder as he let out residual giggles.
“I love you, son.”
“I love you too, dad” Harry responded. Lily sat on the other side and cuddled in close to Harry too. She gently tickled Harry’s neck and he giggled.
“Muhuhum stohohop”
“Sorry love, I just wanted a go too.” She said before holding him close. Sirius looked at the three of them together and decided to leave them alone for a bit.
“Mum, Dad. I love you both”
“We love you too Harry. So much.” Lily said, she kissed him gently on the forehead.
Then everything started to fade to darkness.
“Harry?”
Harry blinked his eyes open. He was lying in bed. Sirius was sitting at the end of his bed.
“Are you okay?” Sirius asked. Harry looked at him, dazed.
“What? What time is it?” He asked.
“4am” Sirius responded.
“Where….where did Mum and Dad go?”
“What?”
“Where did my parents go?”
“What do you mean?” Sirius asked, concerned.
“They were right here, we were all together. We were hugging and I was being tickled and…”
“Ah, that explains the giggling.” Sirius said.
“What?”
“You were giggling in your sleep, that’s why I came in to see if you were okay.”
“Sleep?” Harry asked, confused.
“Harry, I think you were dreaming.”
Harry went quiet.
“Harry?”
“Oh.” He said. He lowered his head. Sirius’ heart sank. He moved up the bed and held Harry close to him.
“It’s okay. I’m here, I’ve got you. You know they’re both up there looking down on you, showering you with support every day.” Sirius said, rubbing Harry’s head. Harry nodded slowly. A tear slid down his face.
“Look at me.”
Harry looked up at SIrius.
“It’s okay.” Sirius said. Harry buried his head into Sirius’ chest and hugged him close. Sirius ran his hand up and down Harry’s side eliciting small giggles from Harry.
“I love you, Sirius.”
“I love you too, Harry. I’m always here for you. I promise.”
Harry slowly fell back asleep on Sirius’ shoulder.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Sirius whispered, scared of the situation in front of him. You’d been distant all day, as if something was bothering you. With Sirius, you were always so carefree and at ease because he knew exactly how to make you feel better, but this time, it seemed Sirius was at a loss.
You refused to look at him. He felt his heart shattering every time he called for you and he got no response. He tried to be patient and not push you, knowing your stubbornness rivaled his. So he sat quietly and let your mind wander off into new places as he watched you slip away from him— until finally, he could bear it no longer.
“Sirius,” you sighed, using all your power to push yourself further away from him. You held a hand up, keeping him at an arm’s distance as he tried to get closer, “I have to leave.”
His eyebrows furrowed, a look of genuine confusion etched on his face, “What?”
“I have to go,” your voice betrayed you, cracking in mid sentence as you tried to explain why you had to leave. “I’m muggleborn. After the McKinnons…. They’ll try to take my family next, I know it. Sirius, you have to understand.”
“I can help protect them,” he rebutted, eyes darting everywhere, as if trying to figure out how he would do that. “We can do this together, you know? I’m getting better and better everyday since Hogwarts, Y/N. We’ll put up protective charms a-and we can fight. Yeah, we’ll fight—”
“This isn’t your fight, Sirius,” you explained, wiping your tears, “You have your own family to protect. Moony, Peter, The Potters! James and Lily and young Harry! The Order needs you, Sirius. I can’t take you away from your duties.”
He shook his head, hair already messy from his constant tugging, “You’re my family, too! I don’t understand why I can’t help you.”
“I could never forgive myself if something happened to you because you were trying to protect me and my family.”
“And I could never forgive myself if something happened to you! Especially knowing I could’ve helped!” Sirius exclaimed, his calm demeanor long gone. He wasn’t yelling at you, but his voice significantly picked up volume as the conversation progressed. His eyes were red, lips severely bitten as he pleaded his case. “I don’t understand why you have to go! They’re okay, I’ll make sure of it.”
“Sirius, you’re not listening to me!”
“No, you’re not listening to me!” he replied, marching over to you. He held you by your shoulders, looking at you straight in the eyes, “You… You can’t leave, Y/N. Not right now, not ever. We already lost Marlene and the Prewetts and Godric, if I lost you— If I lost you, I wouldn’t know what to do. We’ll put your family under protective custody and we’ll make sure they don’t touch them, you hear me? But you are not going off by yourself.”
“Sirius, I can’t have you pulling strings for me. The Order needs people here. They need people to fight. I’m expendable, Sirius, don’t you understand? Nobody is going out there to protect muggles. No one.” You held his face in your hands, leaving soft kisses on his skin. He closed his eyes, crying brokenly. You continued, “I have to go, Sirius. You need to stay here. They need you, Sirius Black.”
“What about what I need?” he whispered, gripping your waist. He showed no signs of letting you go. In fact, his grip on your waist tightened, afraid that one falter in his movements, you’d walk away. He wasn’t ready. “I need you.”
You knew then that Sirius understood why you had to go. If the Potters were ever in danger, he’d drop everything to make sure they were safe. Although he wasn’t Euphemia’s and Fleamont’s son by blood, they treated him like he was. You grew up with a loving family— one that Sirius longed for and finally got after meeting young James Potter on the train in their first year, and Sirius knew you had to go. But it didn’t make it any easier on him.
He opened his heart to you, and there was not a day since that he regretted doing so. He was broken and bruised and for a while, he thought he was incapable of accepting love that didnt come from the Marauders or the Potters. You came along in his fourth year, trailing behind Lily Evans who was asking Remus for some help on Transfigurations, and you beamed at him with that sunshine smile and he was done for.
Sirius fell for you, hard and quick. He was in love with you before you even entertained the idea of Sirius Black in your life. Growing up, he yearned to be loved by someone and he never thought that the mere idea of falling in love with someone like you would feel just as good as feeling that love he craved. You had such a big heart, Sirius knew that but a part of him still thought there was no space in there for him. As pathetic as it sounded (Remus’ words— though he said it with a small smile tugging on his lips), Sirius would’ve been okay with that because to him, it was an honor all on its own to love you, even if it wasn’t reciprocated.
The day you told him you loved him, all the heartache and pain that young Sirius Black endured all his years suddenly felt like nothing. Sure, the trauma and the hurt will always leave their mark on him, but now, once those words left your lips, Sirius Black knew that he would be okay. He had you.
Sirius spoke again, “Y/N, this is probably the worst time to do this but I never had good timing, did I?”
“Siri,” you whispered, gasping into your palms as he kneeled down on one knee.
“I don’t have a ring. Uh, the Black family has a ring we pass down every generation but obviously, I was not blessed with such,” he chuckled, playing with your fingers. “I may not have a ring but I have my love and I’m hoping that will suffice for now. Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me?”
Nodding your head furiously, you mumbled a shaky, “Yes.”
Sirius laughed, getting up on his feet to twirl you around your living room. He buried his head in your hair, wanting to memorize your scent. He kissed your neck softly, muttering his undying love and affection. He spun you around until you were both too dizzy to stand and you collapsed on top of him on your couch.
You giggled, tucking a piece of his hair behind his ear. You rubbed your thumb across his cheekbone, kissing the tip of his nose, “I love you.”
“I love you,” he replied, “I promise when you get back, I will put a ring on your finger.”
When you get back.
“When I get back,” you confirmed.
-
James whistled, inspecting the ring in the box, “Blimey, Padfoot. This is beautiful!”
Sirius smiled proudly, eyes gleaming with excitement as his friend examined the ring he picked out for you. Since you left four months ago, he went on a hunt for the perfect ring, “Thanks, Prongs.”
“She’ll love it,” Remus added, putting down the newspaper that he was reading, “When is she coming back?”
“When it’s safe enough, I suppose. That’s why we have to win this war, gentlemen. I would like to see my fiance as soon as possible.”
Lily laughed, holding Harry by her heart, “I would also like to see my best friend soon. Harry also does miss his Godmother.”
“He babbles her name whenever he sees the stuffed lion she got him,” James added, getting up to wrap his arms around Lily. The picture perfect family looked so happy to be with each other. It almost made the other two boys in the room forget what was going on outside the doors of their home.
Sirius got up to take Harry from Lily, rocking the baby back and forth as he smiled fondly at his Godfather, “I miss her too, Bambi. We’ll see her soon, yeah?”
Harry made some baby noises, laughing with his chest as Sirius pulled funny faces. He couldn’t help but think about how nice it would be to have one with you. Remus popped his head over Sirius’ shoulder to watch the baby and Harry immediately made grabby hands at Remus. Sirius passed him over to his best friend and sat back down on the Potters’ couch. He picked up the box that James left on the table and stared at it lovingly.
Then, a bright light entered the room, startling all its occupants. A patronus.
It was a black dog, one that mirrored Padfoot, and it ran around the room before stopping right in front of Sirius. Lily ran to Remus and grabbed a hold of Harry, who buried his head into the crook of his mother’s neck. James rushed over to his family, wrapping a protective arm around the two. Remus stood there, stunned.
Sirius knew it was your patronus.
Before anyone could make another move, your voice rang in the room.
“Sirius,” you gasped, sounding out of breath. There was chaos in the background, he could hear it. His heart dropped to his stomach. No.
“Sirius,” your patronus said again. “They’re here. There’s too many of them and— Sirius…”
“No,” his eyes were wide. Remus placed a hand on his shoulder but he couldn’t feel it. Lily looked away, hiding into James’ chest. Harry began to hiccup.
“Sirius, I love you. I love you so much. So so much.”
Then the black dog disappeared. The silence was eerie, even young Harry stopped his noises. Sirius dropped the ring, falling to the ground right after it.
Remus kneeled down, holding him up, “Padfoot…”
“We have to go,” he breathed out, not looking at anyone in the eye. He faced straight ahead, his mind spinning too quickly for him to make sense of his thoughts. Sirius began to breathe unevenly, clutching his chest like it might burst.
“Okay, Pads,” James nodded. He looked at Lily for confirmation. She tipped her head, holding Harry even closer than before. She knew.
Without another word, the three boys apparated straight to your old home. Sirius promised to you that he would never try to visit you or check up on you until the war was finished, afraid for his safety and yours. But he had to break his promise.
When they arrived, the house seemed empty. Nothing seemed out of place until he walked into the kitchen and saw your parents on the floor, unmoving. Sirius paled as he looked up at the ceiling and saw the symbol of the Dark Lord and his followers etched upon it. He ran up the stairs, tripping over the steps and his feet, bracing himself for what he already knew.
The door to your bedroom was opened a tiny bit. It was large enough for Sirius to slide his foot in and open completely. He stood still.
Sirius could hear the rushed footsteps of his two best friends chasing after him up the stairs. When they reached the final one, they stood behind Sirius, a gasp leaving their lips. The two boys began to cry quietly.
James placed a hand on Sirius' shoulder, “I’m so sorry, Padfoot.”
Sirius knew his friends were crying. After years of living with them, he knew the tone of their voice when they cried. He learned that. He knew that he should’ve been crying too because it hurt so bad. It felt like his heart was ripped out of his body and discarded but Sirius decided that not even that would hurt as much as the image of you lying lifelessly on the floor in front of him. He couldn’t cry. He couldn’t feel anything.
He walked closer to you, ignoring the howling of the wind coming from the broken window to his left. He stepped over the items knocked down by the fight. He was walking so slowly, afraid that if he were to come any closer, it would suddenly become too real. As much as he dreaded to get too close to you, he finally did.
Sirius clenched his jaw, a rush of cold air washing over his body. He stared at your face, remembering the color of your eyes and the happiness that once occupied it. He leaned over to shut your eyelids, not wanting the gray clouds in your irises to overtake the happy memories he had saved in his mind. His eyes trailed down to your left hand that rested on your chest, black, veiny lines growing on your skin. You used it to try to block the curse from hitting your heart. Sirius stared at your unmoving, bare ring finger.
It wasn’t until Sirius looked down at your stomach did he finally fall to his knees. He sobbed over your body, still warm from the impact, with a loving hand on top of your once growing belly.

Happy 420! Enjoy a fluffy little 6th year jily fic featuring plenty of ouid and pining :) tw: recreational drug use
Read it on AO3
“I have a feeling the properties of that water might reinforce the Deception Elixer I’m working on with Slughorn, so the next time we go to the Mirror Pond, remind me to bring a jar, Mary.”
James’ head snapped around so fast, he nearly gave himself whiplash. Maybe he should have been subtler about listening in on Lily’s conversation across the Common Room, but old habits die hard and he was too caught off guard by what she said to stop himself.
“The Mirror Pond?” he practically shouted, grabbing Lily’s attention and earning him a confused raised brow. “The one in the Forbidden Forest? With a surface so reflective it could be mistaken for solid glass?”
“That’s the one, Potter,” she replied casually, exchanging glances with Mary and Dorcas. “Glad to know your hearing hasn’t been affected by sixteen straight years of Mummy shouting her praises at you.”
A year ago that quip would have bothered him, but something affectionate glimmered behind her eyes and sent a flurry of hope through his ribcage. Of all the ways he’d felt towards Lily, hopeful had never been one of them… until recently.
“It’s been seventeen straight years now, Evans,” he pointed out with a grin. “I know you, of all people, haven’t forgotten my birthday party last month.”
Even from across the room, he could see a pink tinge spreading across her cheeks. His heart soared, remembering a few weeks back when Lily had- with the encouragement of an emptied bottle of Firewhiskey- given an impassioned speech about James’ ‘surprisingly lovely qualities’ and how lucky she was to be his friend. It was the first time, to his delight, that the “F” word had been used, despite months of suspecting they were close to reaching that point. The speech concluded with a sloppy hug (that James cherished every second of) and her promptly falling asleep on the nearest armchair.
It was a birthday he wouldn’t soon forget, and neither would Lily, judging from the blush continuously growing on her face.
“For real, though, Evans,” he continued, “how do you know about the Mirror Pond? I’d think a Prefect such as yourself would know the Forest is off-limits.”
“Then how do you know about the pond, Potter?” she asked with a smirk.
He glanced back at his friends, who sat around the fireplace amused, listening to the conversation. Remus arched a brow, curious to see how James would explain away their monthly trips exploring every corner of the forest, and Sirius just laughed. At least Pete had the good sense to pretend to be reading, despite holding his Divination textbook upside down.
“Doesn’t matter,” James waved, dismissively. “I’m just surprised you girls spend your free time in the forest. There are dark creatures in there, y’know.”
“Are you scared of the Flobberworms, Potter?” laughed Lily.
“The Forest is beautiful,” chimed in Mary as she left her seat by the windows to join the boys around the fire. “That’s why it’s the best place to go after raiding the Greenhouses.” She plucked a sugar quill from Sirius’ hands before settling in on an armchair, a sly grin curling at the corner of her mouth. Lily rolled her eyes, but she too had a suspicious smile playing on her lips.
James glanced around his mates, wondering which one would take the bait.
It was Peter.
“What do you raid from the Greenhouses?”
“Keep your voice down, Pettigrew,” said Dorcas in a hushed tone, swiftly moving to join Mary on the chair. Lily reluctantly followed her friends and James’ heart leaped when she chose to sit next to him on the sofa.
“We get the best stuff from Sprout’s private collection,” Mary sighed. She seemed to be speaking vaguely on purpose.
“The best stuff for what?” asked Peter, unknowingly taking one for the team yet again. Sirius leaned back in his seat with an air of nonchalance, but James could tell his curiosity was getting the better of him by the sudden tapping of his foot.
“For smoking, you posh knobs,” said Dorcas.
“Oh!” barked Sirius, relief washing over his face. “I smoke all the time. I’ve even got a pack on me now-”
“Not cigarettes, Black,” Lily cut in. “We smoke grass.”
Sirius looked dumbfounded, not bothering to hide his confusion anymore, and James reckoned he looked the same. Suddenly, Remus burst out laughing and James nearly fell out of his seat.
“Oh, like Muggle grass?”
“Exactly, Lupin,” said Mary, turning back to the girls. “See, I knew there was a reason we liked him best.”
Sirius whipped around to look at Remus as though he’d just transformed into the Giant Squid. Remus hit him with a pillow.
Peter knit his brows together and let out a huff. “Why would you smoke grass?”
“Bloody hell,” groaned Dorcas, “not the grass that you walk on, Pettigrew. It’s Marijuana. We’re smoking drugs.”
“Like medicine?” asked Sirius, picking his jaw off the floor from Remus’ betrayal.
“Well, technically it is medicinal when you use it in potions, but when you smoke it, it’s a bit more… fun,” Lily chuckled and James turned to look at her. The amusement lit up her eyes in a way that made him say stupid things.
“Oh yeah,” he said with mock confidence, a hand raking through his hair, “we’ve actually been meaning to try that stuff for ages now.” He shrugged, hoping the girls couldn’t peer into his brain and see that he’d never even so much as sniffed one of Sirius’ cigarettes before.
“I’m sure you have,” said Lily, patting his shoulder. Her touch- intoxicatingly warm- acted like a reward for his idiotic behaviour.
“Well, do you have any on you?” he asked, holding her gaze. He let his smile go lopsided and watched her expression turn from amused to mischievous.
She glanced at Mary and Dorcas. “Alright. We’ll meet you in your room in ten minutes.”
And with that, the girls stood up and left the Common Room, leaving the Marauders gaping at each other in their wake. In a flash, the boys jumped to their feet and raced up the staircase to their dormitory.
“Moony, you’ve got to tell us everything you know,” said Sirius, pacing back and forth, a cigarette twirling around his fingertips.
Remus flopped onto his bed. “I don’t know much! I only did it once last Summer with the boys down the street.”
“Bloody help you are,” moaned Sirius.
“But why are we taking medicine when we aren’t sick?” asked Peter.
“You heard Evans,” James jumped in as he quickly made his bed and shoved dirty laundry into a drawer, “when you smoke it, it’s fun. Right, Moony?”
“I guess, but when I did it I just got lightheaded.”
“Oh, Merlin, we’re going to look like fools.”
“We already look like fools, Padfoot. Stop pacing and lean up against the bedpost or something. Act casual.”
“You’re one to talk, Prongs, you’re running around like a house-elf with its head chopped off!”
“Don’t tease him, Sirius, this might be the only time he’ll ever manage to get Lily in his room.”
“That’s a low blow coming from you, Moony.”
“Sorry, mate, you know I’m rooting for you.”
A knock on the door scared the four boys stiff. They stood frozen, staring at each other with wide eyes until a second knock brought them back to their senses.
“Act casual,” mouthed James as a reinforcement before leaping over his four-poster to let the girls in. “Evans, Meadowes, Macdonald,” he greeted. “Long time, no see.”
Dorcas rolled her eyes and brushed past him with Mary into the room, but Lily hung back.
“You excited, Potter?” she asked. “I know you’ve been looking forward to this for ages.”
He stilled, his breath caught in his throat before realizing she was talking about smoking. “Oh, ‘course,” he sputtered. “So excited. Well, not too excited. The normal amount.”
The flurries in his chest from earlier, now mixed with a healthy dose of nerves, picked up speed as Lily laughed and made her way into the room, sitting down on- of all places- James’ bed.
He short-circuited. Lily Evans was sitting on his bed.
Remus perked up on his own four-poster, trying to subtly catch James’ attention, but having a hard time keeping his eyes from bulging out of his head. Sirius didn’t bother hiding his own bewildered grin, going so far as to point at her animatedly as though James couldn’t see what had happened with his own bloody eyes.
Peter didn’t even bother to hold back. “That’s James’ bed.”
“Okay,” said Lily, unphased, “are you giving me a tour, Pete?”
“No, I just-”
“So, we should get started, right?” James cut in, his voice an octave higher than it should’ve been.
“Sounds good to me,” said Dorcas, settling down on Remus’ bed across from Lily.
So, they were going to be sitting on beds. That was no big deal. No big deal at all. James gathered up every last ounce of casual that he possessed to walk over to his four-poster and sit down next to Lily. He prayed that she couldn’t hear his heart threatening to beat out of his chest. Lily seemed completely unbothered to be next to him on his bed, however, and nearly caused him a brain aneurysm when she scooted closer in order to let Mary slip in on her other side.
“So,” said Remus, providing a very welcomed distraction from the thousands of thoughts rushing through James’ brain, “is it about the same as Muggle grass?”
“Practically,” said Dorcas, pulling out a small jar and another ceramic object that looked vaguely like his father’s tobacco pipe. “It’s just a bit stronger.”
“Much stronger,” added Mary, beaming.
“It’s quite strong,” Dorcas agreed, laughing as she packed the pipe with a green substance that smelled impossibly fragrant. “Lily, do you have the lighter?”
Lily reached into her robe’s pocket, leaning against James for a split second as she did so ( Merlin have mercy ), and handed over a well-loved Muggle lighter.
“Technically we could use our wands,” said Dorcas, producing a flame from the plastic and lighting up the green substance. She breathed in through the pipe, waited a moment, then exhaled. “But, when in Rome…”
She passed the pipe to Mary, who repeated the process and moved it on to Lily. James had been so caught up by Lily’s leg bumping up against his own, that he barely noticed how quiet his friends were as the girls blew smoke around their dorm. When he looked up, he noticed Sirius intently staring from Mary to Lily, trying to pick up any tips on how smoking this “grass” worked. As Lily placed the pipe in James’ hand, he wondered if he should have done the same.
“Er, okay,” he said, staring at the pipe. He brought the ceramic piece up to his mouth, like Lily had done before ( Holy Merlin, she just had her lips exactly where his were now ), and hit the little plastic button on the lighter. Nothing happened. He flicked the button multiple times, but the flame wouldn’t come.
“Oh, of course, you’ve never used a Muggle lighter!” Lily grabbed the plastic from his hand and switched the flame into life before his eyes. “Keep it to your mouth, I’ll light it for you.”
She did just that, leaning over to reach the pipe, her fingers so close to his face, she accidentally brushed the tip of his nose, sending his stomach swooshing. And just when he thought he couldn’t get luckier, she put her hand over his to demonstrate how to hold the pipe properly and cover the little hole that let air in. She was warm and soft and smelled so nice that he instinctively breathed in deeply, forgetting all the smoke piling in his throat.
The coughing came in sputters, then gasps. He’d never coughed so much in his life.
Thankfully the sounds of him hacking covered the fits of giggles from the girls and once his own coughs subsided, Peter had managed to pick up where he’d left off. Remus was able to hold his own okay, but Sirius nearly fell off the bed after doubling over from choking so badly.
The pipe traveled around the circle of sixth years, their coughs became less frequent, and the rigidity that plagued the beginning of the night burned away with the funny smelling plant. James barely noticed anymore how he had let his leg relax against Lily’s. Barely.
He looked up to Sirius and pointed to his leg as if to say “Can you believe this is happening right now?” Sirius’ eyes didn’t follow where he signaled, but he nodded all the same, a glaze covering his pupils.
Remus was sprawled out on his back, staring at the ceiling, and occasionally asking questions.
“Is the Giant Squid lonely or just alone? Is there a difference? Are bones the only thing preventing our muscles from acting like tongues?”
Peter just stared, unblinking, towards the door, then back down to his stomach, and back to the door. He interrupted Mary, Dorcas, and Lily attempting a three-part harmony (badly) to say, “I feel like I could chew for a hundred kilometers.”
“Snacks?” squealed Mary, hopping off the bed.
“Snacks!” responded Lily. She grabbed James’ arm, dragging him to his feet. He thought about how he would let her drag him off a cliff if she wanted to. Maybe he should tell her.
He followed Lily down the staircase, through the Common Room, and into the corridors, all the while thinking of the cliffs she might lead him to in the near future.
“Should we watch out for Peeves?” squealed Pete from behind, but James just laughed.
“No worries, Wormy, we’re under the cloak. He won’t see us.”
“Prongs,” said Sirius, laying a hand on his shoulder, “I hate to break it to you, mate, but we aren’t using the cloak.”
James looked around as if seeing his surroundings for the first time. “Blimey!” he laughed. “Would you look at that!”
“Potter,” whispered Lily rather loudly between fits of giggles, “ you can’t shout, we’ll be late to the kitchens! ”
How stupid of him to forget! But when Lily held up a finger and pressed it to his lips while she shushed him, he thought he ought to forget everything he’s ever known if it meant getting her skin directly on his mouth. Maybe he should tell her.
“Do the paintings move when we can’t see them?” came Remus’ lofty voice from several meters ahead of them.
“That’s an excellent question,” Lily said, still whispering. The way she beamed up at James made his whole head spin. “ Personally, I’d like to find out how the paintings work. ”
“I actually know the answer to that one,” James said, his cheeks painful from smiling so wide. Lily looked up at him with eager eyes. “It’s magic.”
“James Potter you twat!” she gasped, punching his arm and running ahead to stand next to Remus at the top of the moving staircase. He watched her link arms with Moony and follow his gaze up to a massive portrait.
“I know exactly how you feel, mate,” said Sirius, throwing an arm around his shoulder.
“Do you, Pads?”
“Happy.”
“Yeah, actually.”
Sirius gave him a long, hard look. “That prank is going to work out so well.”
James paused. “What prank?”
“The one I just thought of. It’s gonna be really good, I’ll tell you about it when we get back to the room. Don’t let me forget.” And with that, Sirius wandered over to join the rest of the group in front of the large portrait.
What was so great about that painting that it warranted all his friends drooling over it?
As he moved closer, it became quite clear that this was actually the most beautiful piece of art that had ever been made. Tall grass danced in a draftless wind, carrying brushstrokes of flower petals over taught canvas. Colors moved together like schools of fish flowing separately, but together, creating life out of something as still as darkness.
“It looks like you, Prongs,” said Remus softly and James wondered if he too could see the energy vibrating off the paint. But then he looked a little harder and saw the majestic stag staring back from the other side of the frame.
“James looks like a deer?” asked Lily, still whispering.
“It’s his soul,” said Sirius. There were no further questions.
Peter whined about his stomach growling and the others mumbled in agreement, moving on from the portrait on the top of the stairs.
But not James. He stayed, glued to the floor, marveling at the way a single hand could create an entire world on a blank page, drawn in by the stag and how watching him reminded James of looking in a mirror and meeting a new friend all at once.
“Your soul looks nice,” said a voice off to the side. Lily had stayed. James had hoped she would stay, but he had been too scared to look. But she was still there and moving closer as a smile stretched across his lips.
“Thanks,” he said. He looked down to meet her eyes, so clear and bright he could make out the reflection of antlers deep within her irises. “I see your soul there, too.”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah,” he continued. “Your eyes are brushed into the leaves and the sunlight is stroked with your hair. You’re in the wind because you’re here and you’re on your way at the same time.”
“You’re funny, James Potter.”
It was the most poetic thing he’d ever heard.
He opened his mouth to respond, but a flash of mocha brown caught the corner of his eye. He turned to see a beautiful, graceful doe stepping into the frame, joining the stag.
“There I am,” said Lily and her words sounded like music.
James could have floated away in that moment. She was so beautiful and he was high as a cloud, wondering how he’d ever be able to contain these emotions once he was back on the ground. He looked at the painting like a crystal ball and wondered if his future could be immediately ahead of him. He had to find out. Did Lily want to learn, too?
He reached down and grabbed her hand, thrilled that she didn't let go, and realized what he had to do. How he could show her all their possibilities.
James took a deep breath, gripped Lily’s hand, and lunged forward, pulling her with him directly into the wall. He rammed headfirst into the canvas and bounced backwards onto the floor with Lily toppling after him.
“What just happened?” asked Lily, wheezing from the floor beside him.
He turned his head to catch her eye. “I thought I could take us into the painting.”
After a beat, Lily burst into laughter and James followed close behind. Giggles crashed over them like waves he wouldn’t mind drowning in.
“I think we need some snacks,” said Lily, standing up and pulling James with her. She didn’t let go of his hand once they made it to their feet. He felt her warmth rush up his arm, igniting his nerve endings with happiness and excitement and hope. A hope that he knew he could live in for the rest of his life as long as she was on the other end of it.
Maybe he should tell her.

Description: You're his girlfriend and you baked him a cake and surprised him
Pairings: Remus x reader
Which year?: Hogwarts year 5, 1975
Warnings: food, fluff, loads of hugs and kisses
Inspiration: One thing by One Direction
Being the girlfriend of a guy who turns into a werewolf once a month and is obsessed with chocolates is a true blessing. Today is your boyfriend, Remus Lupin's 16th birthday and you wanted him to have a birthday that he'll never forget which is why you're currently in the kitchen with the house elves
"Krafty can you check on the chocolate cake please" You ordered the light elf as you continued to decorate the chocolate cookies that you made; you heard the oven open leaving a delicious scent in the kitchen then close but the smell still lingered and became oddly near you
"Krafty has got the chocolate cake for Y/n L/n" The happy looking elf presented you the brown cake proudly, the cake was well baked and looked absolutely mouthwatering. You could eat it right there and then but stopped yourself
"Thank you Krafty" You took the cake from his grasp and placed it on the counter near you and you went back into business with the cookies, you added the letter S to the last cookie before moving away from your masterpiece to check if it is perfect
'Happy Birthday Remus' You wrote on each of the treats as a proud smile creeped up to your face, you heard loud laughter booming through the walls of the kitchen and saw three boys coming in
"Hey y/n/n, we did what you told us to!" Peter squealed merrily with a big smile before starting to sniff the room "Ooh what is that delicious smell?" He asked looking at the other two boys in confusion
"It's the cake and cookies" You moved aside to show them your hard work, the boys strolled over and their eyes bulged open so wide their eyes were close to coming out of their sockets "Woah y/n they look absolutely splendid!" Sirius gushed picking up a cookie, he moved it near his mouth but you snatched it away from him carefully so the writing wouldn't mess up "Not now Padfoot" You glared at him and he put his hands up in surrender
"Okay so the plan is to surprise him?" James inquired with a raised eyebrow and you nodded, you wanted to surprise Remus because you knew he didn't want anything and he has told the boys that he doesn't want them to waste any money or time on him and obviously you and the boys didn't listen
"Okay so we'll-" "Not so fast Prongs" You cut him off mid sentence holding tightly onto him, Sirius and Peter so they don't squirm away "You three will help me to decorate the cake" The black haired and curly haired boys groaned in ignorance as you rolled your eyes at their childish behaviour "I love decorating!" The small boy jumped excitedly with a small giggle causing the boys to glare at him and you to laugh at him
"Let's get started boys!"
-
"Sirius Orion Black, you try to eat that cookie again and you'll wake up bald" You threatened your annoying friend for the hundredth time making the other two laugh again as you glared at them once again, the grey eyed boy gasped dramatically using one hand to comb through his hair
You rolled your eyes at his irritating presence and he chuckled at how easy it is to infuriate you.
The four of you successfully managed to go to the common room without spilling or ruining anything, just like the other boys you threatened everyone who tried to touch the cake or take a taste of it
You heard your best friend, Lily Evans talking to your boyfriend about the Transfiguration exam coming up next week. "Okay wormtail go" You demanded the short boy and he nodded clearing his throat saying the password to the fat lady before strolling in the large red room causing the attention inside to go on him "Hello Remus, my old friend" "Uh Remus I'm sorry but i have to go to the toilet" "Take your time"
You saw the red head motioning you guys to come in, you followed her instructions as you and the others tip toed across the room to get to Remus who is now in a deep conversation with Peter about muggle cars "Woah so they never heard of flying cars!" The blonde boy's eyes widened slamming his hands on the wooden table moving closer to the Sandy haired "Nope they find it freaky deaky"
You always loved it when Remus used slang, it suited him and you loved hearing the words sliding off his mouth so smoothly. "Groovy" You heard Peter mutter under his breath before Lily covered Remus' eyes surprising him "Who's there?" He squealed out in a high pitched voice and his book fell from his open hands
You stifled in a giggle placing the cake onto the table and Sirius placed the cookies on the other side of the brown table before Lily took her hands off his face "Happy Birthday Remus!" You chuckled at his face as his cheeks and the tips of his ears turned a deep red
He stared at the cake for a while then turned to you to stare in awe for a minute then copied the same actions on our other friends before turning back to me with tears glazing over his eyes "Y-you did this?" He pointed his finger at the cake and cookies
You nodded with a small smile "Yeah" You breathed out, a smile broke onto his face as he leaped over to you squishing your cheeks and colliding your lips with his. You were taken aback by the sudden action as you relaxed under his touch before softly placing your hands on his cheeks kissing him back
You heard Lily and Peter aww at the sight and the other two boys gagged at it playfully, you heard the two whine out an ow
"Save that for the bedroom" You laughed into the kiss breaking the two of you apart, Remus slapped Sirius on the arm playfully as Sirius kept on chuckling. James mimicked the scene earlier making you roll your eyes and mess his hair "Ah not the hair!"
"It's messy anyway Jamie"
"Guys..." You all turned around to the timid voice of the blond only to see his once blue eyes turn dark as his eyes lingered on the cake as if it was going to run away from him
You all looked at each other holding in a laugh before turning back to Peter who held his stare "When are we going to eat the cake?" Drool was practically falling from his mouth, the sight disgusted you all yet was amusing
You looked back at Remus who only motioned his head towards his dorm room with a smirk, you giggled getting up "We're just going to play some games in my room" Your boyfriend announced holding your hand and leading you to his messy shared dorm
"Yeah me and Prongs are going to prank Snivellus" Sirius picked the brown eyed boy by the collar so he too doesn't drool at the sight of his long time crush, Lily Evans, and ran out of the warm room leaving the red head by herself wondering why she became friends with such backstabbers
"Well I gotta skitty" She scurried away as fast as possible so he doesn't ask any questions, the boy stayed on his seat not caring if his friends left nor minding the loud noises coming from his dorm room "Cookies and cakes you're mine!"
