I was thinking funny thoughts like "the shipping wars should be banned in the dungeon meshi fandom because there's only one ship (the elves' one), and it's not fair (they're on the island though, there should be more ships!!)," but then I realized that Senshi would absolutely devastated after watching The Terror
#fun fandom activity: your faves watch the terror#well#there are other ships like the one laios worked on#but the elves ship is more significant?#anyway#you should watch the terror#and cry with senshi#and we need more ships in dungeon meshi#with good provisions#dungeon meshi#au where laios company explores oceans and seas

With the end and all, it just gives too much of an opening to make Shuro learn his place and realize just how much Falin and Laois have in common— after finally realizing he’s got much to learn especially from those who are more eagerly set on their goals than he’s even been— hopefully so much so he learns to loosen up a lot more, and anyways what I’m trying to say here is Laois and Shuro should make some yaoi I think.
#dungeon meshi#falin touden#laios touden#Shuro#I get that he’s pretty boring by himself that’s why Shuro needs some Laois spice I believe#Sometimes we need the neurotypical x autistic Yaoi ship to remind us it’s not hard to learn and empathize and suck cock#But I also don’t think Liaos and Falin are as simple as just ‘different gender same chars’ rather…#different tastes of autism but clearly two different types of people one whims more gentle and the other more laidback and almost aloof#Listen…Falin is the DM mascot best girl of the year#Laois is her best fails comp brother with no social awareness but is learning he needs to change into being more empathetic and observant

everytime someone calls mithrun a crusty eyed purse dog and draws flies circling him like a garbage dump an angel loses its wings
#dungeon meshi#sorry moment of weakness#it just feels really weird#cuz you know theyre saying it cuz of the effect his disability has on him#esp more prominent with ship art#cuz hes always drawn looking worse than the other person#like hey guys maybe its not quirky that hes miserable#and these “jokes” are really insensitive sometimes#idc if you call him your blorbo or whatever#but dont imply that hes undesireable or a dog for being traumatized and disabled#maybe he isnt a purse dog. maybe he just needs a lil more helping.#and dont imply that its a chore for ppl to deal with him#the canaries and kabru is RIGHT THERE#are we gonna ignore how they all tried their hardest to help him regain at least a bit of his desire#because theyre FRIENDS and they CARE ABOUT HIM#and no cithis no longer treats him like a doll weve been over this#stop erasing that tiny bit of character growth she has going on for her

Thank you for this post... this means a lot to me
it's a shame that a pretty important part of kabru's characterization is difficult to translate to english and many other languages. i'm talking about the way he uses first-person pronouns [僕] "boku" and [俺] "ore".
most people who are familiar with japanese language know about these pronouns. these are the two types of masculine pronouns that can be used in different situations:
[僕] "boku" is more polite, has a softer tone to it: it's casual, but not too informal. for example, a guy can use this pronoun when he's casually talking with his coworkers.
[俺] "ore" is very informal, can be seen as rude and in contrast to other pronouns may seem more masculine. in fact, "ore" seems to be more of a default pronoun for men lately, especially for teenagers and young adults. most male characters in dungeon meshi, for example, use "ore".
kabru uses both pronouns and it's part of the way he presents himself. it's important to know what he prefers to use in his mind - and it's always "ore". he also uses "ore" when he's a kid living with elves and i think it's interesting, because it seems like elves prefer to use [私] "watashi" (gender-neutral pronoun leaning to feminine). i couldn't find a solid proof that "watashi" is completely gender-neutral for elves though, because mithrun and lycion are the only male elves with speaking roles and lycion uses "ore", while mithrun uses "watashi".
(edit: i forgot about thistle, but he doesn't count, since he grew up with tallmen. he uses "boku" in his mind and with his family, but uses "watashi" as the dungeon lord).
kabru has a pretty good grasp on when he wants to use "boku" or "ore". when he interacts with people he's not very familiar with he uses "boku" pretty much exclusively. it's more polite, but also, he likely wanna present himself as less intimidating than he truly sees himself. he uses "boku" with toshiro, namari and canaries throughout the story, but with his own team he uses "ore". when he interacts with the group that tried to kill them, he uses "ore" too, clearly acting colder than he usually does.
what's even more interesting though, sometimes it's hard for him to stick with one pronoun with certain people. iirc it's normal in japanese, you can use a pronoun that is more fitting for the sentence, but i feel like it's intentional from the writing standpoint.
for example, when he initially talks to laios and his group he uses "boku", as usual. after they fought against falin together he switches to "ore". but after that, when he asks if laios remembers his name, he uses "boku" again. his mask is slipping, but he carefully puts it back on. when interacting with laios in chapter 76 he starts by using "boku" again, but as he gets more desperate and sincere, he starts using "ore".
another example, after he realized that mithrun doesn't care about his charismatic act, he starts using "boku" and "ore" interchangeably with him. at first, he's trying to use "boku" when they talk - it's important for him to respect social hierarchy after all, but when he's caught off guard he uses "ore". at some point he switches from "ore" to "boku" in one conversation! closer to the end of their 6 days journey he starts using "ore" more or less exclusively, almost like he forgets that he's supposed to keep his distance.
anyway, i wish this interesting pattern of his would be more obvious in translation!
#kabru#dungeon meshi#hierarchical status is deeply ingrained in the use of some asian languages#and it's an important part of characterization that reflects the relationship between characters#I read dunmeshi in my first language (Thai) which either lost a bit in translation#or maybe add stuff too much lmao#but yeah it's really hard to describe this nuance that I find lacking in English#my language has pronouns that are similar and the switch really had me ripping off my shirt#I'm going to get ship brained again but I wish people understand this moe part of Kabru#Mithrun in thai translation also refers to himself and speaks in old fashioned manners which I don't know if that's even there in Japanese#but it gives me more insight of his character and it's so moe because of the contrast with Kabru's “boku”#which Kabru's changed by the end and this switch feels almost like Kabru speaks adoringly to Mithrun#I just realize I add nothing of value here and having a ship brainrot#but yeah this is a great post we need to spread this info!!!

As someone who spend so much time on more lgbtq+ settings on the internet, I tend to forget how much the average joe is, by norm, very heteronormative, as is society.
Like, there was this short video on youtube showing the Falin's resurrection scene and all, and some peoples did some comments about it.
As someone who do ship falin × marcille, and compared to what we see around here, that's pretty mild stuff right?
But as I keep forgetting, some people get quite mad at the simplest suggestion that gay people may exist in their little show.
Tbf, the first comment may just not be into the ship and is finding reasonings to why it doesn't work on their eyes, but they're very defensive still.
The second comment however is at quite a point of hetero delusion. Falin was about to marry Toshiro? What? It was mentioned he proposed to her, not that she had accepted and was about to marry him! But, to some people, a man liking a woman is enough for them to be already together, no matter how she feels about it, bc it's "the norm" for the boy to get with the girl. Like, he likes her, and that's all that matters so they will totally get together at the end?
Sadly, that's one of the reasons I see Laios × Marcille as a boring ship sometimes. By all means, I see why some people ship it, there is some real reasoning behind it, but I just know the biggest reasoning for most people that ship them is just "he was a boy, she was a girl, do I need to say more?" Type of mindset.
This next one just makes me laugh, it HAS to be bait:
Like, Marcille NEVERS blush around Falin AND just blushes around Laios? Fella, I don't think we watched the same anime or read the same manga, even people that don't ship them can see that they are a little gay. Or can they? (Vsauce theme starts playing~)
About their age difference and how race works in Dungeon Meshi, that's quite the big topic, not sure I want to stray too much here (there's too much text here as it is).
And about that part that says "makes me think they're all very straight": if this comment is a joke or not, this bit says a lot. Most people see the whole world like that, everyone is straight till proven other wise, and you gotta prove a LOT in media for characters to be gay, or it doesn't count. To most people, being hetero is the norm, and seeing lgbtq+ ships is very hard for most bc of this.
No one is forcing anyone to ship anything here, but lots of people really do forget being gay is even possible sometimes, and get mad at us for shipping what reflect our realities (at least in our eyes). Especially in the anime community, where the simple threat that their "waifu" may not like dudes send some fellas into a fit of rage and homophobia.
And I know, the focus of Dungeon Meshi is not romance and never was, and we can't see the story only through these lenses, I agree with that. But people will ship anything in any show, and I just used it as an example to talk about this topic. It's something that comes often to my mind and I never had the chance to talk about it till now.
Here's a little Farcille gif as a treat for those that read all this rant of mine:
( so cuute~ )

Tbh the older I get the more annoying I find it when people writing fic pick a random character (usually other potential love interests that aren’t the main ship) to butcher their actual character and turn into The Bad Guy
Because y’know, if no one’s twirling their moustache and being clownishly evil, how will we possibly have any drama? 🙄
But I have this feeling I’m gonna be full zero tolerance about it in Dungeon Meshi, because… well, how do you miss the point of the story that badly??
It’s a 14 volume series, gonna be a 48 episode (ish) anime, with no bad guy
It’s explicitly stated, in series
Spoilers below
Thistle is not the bad guy
The winged lion is not the bad guy
The last 4 chapters of the manga are dedicated to driving that home, more than once. Even Kabru isn’t the bad guy, and that breaks my heart because his villain vibes are immaculate and his villain arc would clear my skin and water my crops
Even with a big Final Fight and pivotal showdown, Ryoko Kui still made sure to state that no one in the series is a villain
They’re all just people, with different motivations and different understandings of what’s going on, and that drives them to conflict even when everyone is trying to do the right thing
Even when everyone works with the best of intentions, just plain being different people creates plenty of drama and tension and conflict
So before you get lazy and pick a character from the hat to be your Obvious Bad Guy, maybe just. Try. And live up to the series examples? Let them at least have a personality beyond “Must Prevent Ship Getting Together”
And if you try and make it Lycion I’ll kick your ass in your dreams and give you writer’s block, he cured his dysphoria by becoming a literal werewolf and hasn’t given a fuck about anything since, and nor should he
Cithis is literally Right There let her be the evil scheming manipulative bitch she is in canon for no better reason than she fucking wants to she is a gift from Kui to the fandom she literally put Mithrun in a maid outfit Because She Could
She’s perfect fanfic villainess and she doesn’t need a motive beyond “looks like fun” because she’s deadass just Like That and I’m obsessed with her about it
(Although tbh any Kabru ship fic but Kabru is the Obvious Bad Guy just completely self sabotaging at every possible step and being his own worst enemy would kinda fuck)
#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#delicious in dungeon spoilers#dungeon meshi spoilers#tbh maybe what i want is more cithis fics#that is very possible#but i will also 1000% come for your ass if you try and villainize rin too#her and lycion are my babygirls they have never done a single thing wrong ever#not even all the murder#dungeon meshi meta

this is the number of "recent posts" every day since last week. the grey parts are when i couldn't collect data - i only discovered there was a way to collect data with posts below 100 recent posts since two days ago. as you can see, phan clearly has the most, which you can clearly see here:
so, what does this mean?
we don't exactly know how it's calculated, but this means that one super popular post does a LOT of boosting for a ship - more than having tons of posts every day. i think the spamming, although it's good, is not actually that helpful for the overall picture.
let's look at farcille. for this whole week, their recent posts never exceeded 100. dungeon meshi did trend a couple of times, but it still never broke into 100. but if you look at the farcille tag, 4 of the top posts have over 1k. i also saw some with significantly more.
basically, SUPPORT CREATORS! don't just like - REBLOG! we need to focus on BOOSTING posts rather than making more!
we can get phan to at least top three guys!! i believe in us!

ok more thoughts on laios + marcille (manga spoilers)
i just really enjoy how they get screentime in proportion to their thematic relevance, like it is obvious and reasonable why laios is the protagonist, and it is obvious and reasonable why marcille comes right after him. and i think it is so great that they are not canonically paired up in an obviously romantic way but there is enough chemistry to see that yes, they are a strong pair who are both similar and different, they both actively push the plot forward and their dynamic develops appropriately. i've always liked character driven plots and i think dunmeshi does an absolute fantastic job of sculpting its Two Big Characters (with a well developed overall cast). they are both devoted to rescuing falin, but they originally approached the dungeon with different desires.
at first, their main dynamic seems to be "lover of eating monsters vs fussy picky person who hates eating monsters". but even early on, you can see that laios is the leader and he trusts marcille and wants her to save her mana for lower floors, and while marcille complains about the food, she eats it every time. and later they start learning about each other's fears/motivations, he saves her from her nightmare, she teaches him magic, when she freaks out she instinctively looks at him for comfort, in laios' vision of being king marcille is by his side as his advisor and he trusts her a lot, etc etc. that bit about the laios version of shapeshifter marcille being how solemn marcille looked when she was resurrecting falin... and later on him saying he wanted to see her smile... ugh they care for each other so much.
i know fans went crazy for the succubus chapter but what really did it for me was the chapters when they were hunting rabbits outside sissel's house. laios giving the party's mage his neck protector thingy because she is the only one who can resurrect. the entire party being wiped out almost immediately. marcille reanimating the corpses (god she's used ancient magic to save like everyone in her party now) and making them follow her moves. marcille doing all of this on her own while controlling her friends' dead bodies. this fucks me up SO BAD because when falin died, at least she had everyone else. when she resurrected falin, she had laios' permission. BUT NOW SHE'S ALONE and she doesn't even have the winged dragon beside her?? not a familiar?? not even kensuke. the chapter made it funny but i'm sure it was horrifying and stressful for her. and even worse they were hunting meat to make food for chimera falin (and then kill/subdue falin). like. all the trauma and layers.
marcille sobbing about how laios left her the neck guard and how he assumed she would have to save everyone because only she knows how... even if everyone dies, marcille will "magically save the day" (because he trusts her!! maybe a little too much!!!!)... how marcille was the one who resurrected falin and that became the catalyst for later events... marcille being an half elf who grew up at uneven speeds with a great fear of outliving all her friends AND NOW SHE IS SURROUNDED BY HER FRIENDS' DEAD BODIES WHILE TRYING TO SAVE HER OTHER FRIEND/LOVER. marcille willing to do illegal magic to save her friends. no wonder the lion got to her in such a vulnerable state. no wonder she cried on laios' chest. (also makes it worse that it would feel like everyone was ganging up on her when she became the dungeon lord. marcille vs the world ;-;)
tbh i was quite surprised marcille became lord of the dungeon first, and that quote when laios said "if she didn't become lord, i would've" stuck with me because that is so true. marcille is focused on the lifespan of races and magic but she doesn't know how to organise monsters in a dungeon, and monsters are laios' interest but he doesn't have the knowledge/experience when it comes to different species. like they would be excellent co-dungeon lords.
ok anyways. laios running up to snap lord!marcille out of it. laios and co having always depended on her to do the saving, even with saving falin, but now it's laios' turn to save the day. marcille pointing her staff at laios but refusing to hurt him because ofc she doesn't want to and she wants to stay with her friends her whole life... and the laios telling her they wouldn't have this adventure if falin didn't get eaten (relating to marcille's mindset at the end when she's accepted that falin might not come back and that's the cycle of life and death?)... i love laios comforting marcille during her periods of vulnerability aaaaa
also in the end when he bailed her out of elf jail lmao 👍 he really was like "do not fear i have a permit that says i can do whatever i want".
from their actions you can tell they are quite familiar with each other and laios is pretty okay with her physical shows of affection (ruffling his hair, hugging him etc). also now that i think about it, his succubus was him wanting to be truly accepted by marcille, a person he trusts and cares about 🥺
anyways. totally did not expect to become attached to their dynamic even tho it should be obvious in hindsight as two major characters lol. they have a lot of fun interactions in canon and ughhhh they are opposite yet similar. laios' monster heaven is marcille's hell. laios thinks marcille's cute little familiars and flowery monsters are silly. and every single person thinking he's a freak for that ultimate monster form. saving each other and being united in their will to save falin. "if it wasn't her, it would be me" when it came to dungeon lording.
one last point: i think my interest in them had been slowly building but then came that bit when she instinctively hugged laios when she was frightened by the elf police, i looked at that panel, and was like "oh damn we really in it now"
so hey guys i finished dungeon meshi yesterday and i'm still thinking about it
#development of protagonist and secondary protagonist dynamic my beloved!!! and they did it so well#oh help. why did this get so long#i need to sleep#as senshi would say#dungeon meshi#i guess#im kinda into laimar but i dont really ship it in the conventional sense i just Enjoy them together. qpr vibes#i like seeing laios as aro monsterfucker 😭 with a squish on marcille#not really do not separate more like 'we could go separate ways for our visions but we choose to work side by side'#get marcille in a touden sandwich!

Dungeon Meshi Liveblog: Izutsumi! and Elves
Chilchuck my love, you so fucking asked for that one.
.
You woke him from his nap!!
.
Asfslkfjsk was the fact that Senshi accidentally made this guy in the show? I don't remember it.
.
I love how this fight showcases how fast Izutsumi is. Girl's got a Dex of like 22.
.
Fuckin' tragic that this is just a chapter cover and they never actually, so far as I'm aware, dress in sheepskins the way they dressed in frogskins.
.
Not to be Edgy(TM) but I'm pretty sure that by this definition, humans, especially magic-users, are also "monsters."
.
The green-growing, snow-free cavern with the barometz suddenly appearing is I'm pretty sure the most blatant the dungeon has been so far about giving people what they want - except possibly for this usually hot & humid floor being freezing in the first place, just because Laios said he didn't like the heat.
I hope it keeps doing this sort of thing after he becomes king. I know that's not how this works but god I love a sentient land, especially one that tries to accommodate its people. Alas that this one's all a honey trap for flies.
.
It's very clear to me that, while Izutsumi may genuinely prefer to avoid strenuous effort, either physical or emotional, most of her argument with Marcille in this chapter is about her testing the boundaries of the group's tolerance for her. Where she was before, they'd tell her, "You'd think you could be a little more grateful to us for taking you in." And this is a philosophy that Tade, Izutsumi's closest friend and the one other subordinate-due-to-species person among them, bought into:
Izutsumi was skeptical...but that's still what she lived with. Until now, with this new group, where she's getting mixed messages - or, what feels like mixed messages, between what the group does and says and what she thinks they're saying based on her past experience.
Chilchuck calls her a beast, then basically has her act as distracting bait for a dangerous period of time while the rest of the party (is busy being injured or tending to the injured) does nothing to help, and all Chilchuck does to help Izutsumi kill the ice golem is mark its weak point for her. But then he compliments her skills, apologizes for being rude, and gives her her own pack and bedroll, truly welcoming her to the group. And when she remarks sarcastically that nobody cares about a beast being naked, Marcille only redoubles her efforts to help her keep her modesty, while the others bind Laios's eyes because he's the one who's going to Make It Weird - not Izursumi. Laios stays blindfolded throughout the steam bath scene because the party respects Izutsumi as a person.
So then she starts that fight over food, partly because she genuinely doesn't want to eat gross things - and more importantly, doesn't want to risk becoming even more a monster than most people already view her. But also because she wants, perhaps subconsciously, to see what happens when she's "supposed" to be a "team member" now but she disobeys the more senior members of the group.
This chapter threads two needles, builds two distinctions: between "earning your place" and "pulling your fair weight", and between "doing things you don't like for others (on their orders/for their goals)" and "doing things you don't like for you (for your own goals)." I think it...could do better at it? Like, Tade is kinda failing at step 1, because it's not clear to me that she realizes needing to "be useful" in order to stay is inherently fucked up. But she DOES think of that as her personal goal, even if it's actually externally imposed, and she's okay with putting in hard, sometimes unpleasant work in order to achieve it.
.
Kabru internally, triumphantly: CAHOOOOOOOOTS!
.
{fond sigh} the Elves from the West on their white ships with avian figureheads... They may be dicks, but we do love a Tolkien reference.
.
CANARIES IN THE COAL MINE. I have NO idea if that translation is intended but my god I love it. If it's deliberate, is it a subversion of that concept or is it an indication of what the Elvish government thinks of their crack team of dungeon-delvers?
.
BIGGEST, BLUEST EYES OF PERFECT* HONESTY*...followed by the visible pupils of honest evasion. Man, I'm really enjoying the Shuro-Kabru dynamic here, too? Shuro like, "Don't bullshit me. I'm a prince. I'm willing to help, but I know a politician when I see one." They vibe, your honor. They bonded over one of the weirdest and most traumatic meals of both their lives.
.
LMAOOOO. This was NOT in the show!
.
I love how Namari greets him excitedly and immediately asks for news of Falin, and Shuro says nothing but, really, everything; and Namari changes the subject to something lighter that's still gossip about their friends. I don't really expect it to happen but I'd LOVE to see the whole old Touden party reunite in battle or just around a campfire again, because it's clear they were a very good party of dungeon-competent people who worked and got along well together.
.
Srsly though the opening view of this scene is such eloquent dynamic-establishing, vis a vis the elves relationship with the Island Lord and, well, everyone else here. We heard people muttering nervously in the streets, we heard Kabru's brief but heartfelt story of Utaya... And now we get this:
.
The words of a man who would definitely for sure not have a single problem, not a one!
.
Wait, what shady side business did Shuro have?! I love that Chilchuck is objectively the most reputable person in the party... Except really he fits in with the others: I bet a lot of parties don't want to hire That Bitchy Pushy Halffoot, any more than they want to hire an Easterner with weird vibes or the daughter of an infamous thief. (Or a mysterious elvish mage who won't explain her real reasons for wanting to explore dungeons, but Marcille would've joined the Touden party anyway, for Falin.)
It shows how Laios's trust of others pays off just as often as it doesn't.
.
THIS IS IT, THIS SORT OF IMAGINE SPOT IS WHY I LOVE KABRU VERY MUCH.
.
THE WORDS OF A MAN WHO WILL DEFINITELY FOR SURE NOT HAVE A SINGLE PROBLEM, NOT A ONE!
.
...hot.
.
kitty cat
.
I like how this sort of comment is obviously genuinely hurting Laios, and Chilchuck does kinda genuinely mean it, but also he's saying it more reflexively than anything. Laios says or does something Particularly Fucking Weird; Chilchuck comments and keeps going along with him. I do look forward to Chilchuck growing accepting of Laios's weirdness rather than just resigned, but it's a good character beat all around.
#dm lb#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#analysis#i want to take the multiple pages of kabru making his case to the elves and edit text over them like senshi's cooking instructions#then conclude it with the final 'meal' called like 'delay of elvish intervention in the dungeon'#rated on a hexagon including elements like 'maintained my good reputation' 'minimal likelihood of negative consequences' 'others are happy'

why are you calling farcille sapphic representation when they aren’t even canon
had a very lengthy internal debate with myself on whether i wanted to answer this with an essay or say something short like “because i’m sapphic and they represent me.” but you guys can have the essay too.
i’d like to preface this by saying that i understand where you’re coming from. explicit lgbt+ representation is so deeply important and queer characters in media needs to be normalized instead of tokenized so that queer viewers can feel like there is a world that accepts them and that they can belong in.
HOWEVER. this does not also mean that queercoding and subtext should be devalued, especially given how ingrained it is in queer culture and media. historically, when it was a lot more dangerous to show a character as queer without villainizing them in some way, subtext was all a queer viewer could have. but it’s because of those small hints (see: the legend of korra) that we could have popular media that unabashedly shows queer love. however, even that representation has been stifled, either by only allowing the queer love to be shown in the end (see: adventure time, she-ra, and voltron) or by straight up canceling the show itself (see: the owl house, warrior nun, i am not okay with this, sense8, and first kill).
now let’s get into the actual discussion of farcille. more often than not, shipping arises more from seeing the buildup of a couple rather than when they actually get into a relationship. and this goes for any ship, not just queer ones. but you’re not questioning me on shipping farcille, you’re questioning that i called them sapphic representation without them actually being canon (and therefore they can’t be considered representation).
however, i wholeheartedly think that farcille cannot be read as anything other than romantic, and i genuinely believe that (MANGA SPOILERS) they’d pursue a relationship post-canon, now that falin is un-chimera’d and marcille has a less anxious attachment style to the people she loves. dungeon meshi doesn’t focus on romance whatsoever, and there honestly wouldn’t be any time to show romance anyway because neither character was in a position to be ready for one, so the only appropriate moment would be post-canon.
and that’s where the importance of subtext comes in. ryoko kui’s storytelling relies heavily on her audience’s media literacy skills. though laios is never explicitly stated as autistic, his character is written in such an exquisite way, that any viewer could easily guess what she was trying to represent there. i would 100% consider him to be autistic representation, even without him saying it in-text. now why shouldn’t i be allowed to extend that same logic to farcille being sapphic representation? all the tell-tale queercoding signs are there, just like all the tell-tale autistic-coding is present in laios. i don’t need the two girls to kiss to be aware of how utterly devoted and in love they are with each other.
#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#dunmeshi#dungeon meshi analysis#farcille#long post#not to make this about rwby but also this is me and i make everything about rwby#this reminds me a lot of pre-v9 bumbleby discourse as well. and how it was considered queerbaiting before it even got the chance to be cano#even though it was very clearly the direction that they were going#asks#anon

Now that I've finished the manga, I thought I could dedicate myself to some ships as usual, to have something lighter to focus on in Dungeon Meshi, and god I want to get into Marcille and Falin because I never focus much on yuri but of course, Labru exists. And I'm so delighted so many people ship them because I've already found so many gorgeous fanarts, I could browse them all day; on the fanfiction side, I need to explore more but it's been a while since I've read fanfics like, in general so
I can't help but notice a lot of stuff is from Kabru's point of view because obviously seeing him wanting to talk with Laios in canon, flipping back and forth between trusting him and wanting to kill him etc is endlessly entertaining, and then we could have a lot of great post canon content
But I get a bit stuck on Laios, like I'm missing something. I ship them anyway but I wish the manga would have elaborated a bit on his side of things, we don't even see if they really go to that restaurant together in the end. I mean, what does Laios see in Kabru? I can see Kabru chasing him down the dungeon left a huge impression on him, because he always struggled with friendships, but I fear this isn't enough of a spark for me in the long run and I will fall into the trap of unrequited love and all that angst (I love it tho lol). I could talk for days about what Laios represents for Kabru but not really the opposite, does this make sense
I would have wanted more from his side

hilarious that everyone makes a huge deal abt shuro proposing to falin in the epilouge placing bets OMG IS FALIN GOING TO LEAV going OMG is he gonna marry a WHITE WOMAN for a convo that was : I wanna travel the world but thanks for the offer! Okay cool good on ya. We should still be friends tho!
#i wish fans wouldn't be so ship brained like. propodal aside those two had a legitimate interesting dynamic#and more than that they had a good relationship. they got along well enough that Shuro felt understood by Falin and Falin let down#Toshiro gently and he just accepts her answer and they remain friends#Also also also can we talk about how much Toshiro grows by things not going the way he hopes they will with the Touden?#i know deep in my heart that he never wanted to lose his cool and fight Laios let alone get his ass kicked. but the conflict was NEEDED#I hope he sees Falin actively challenge herself to be more independent and autonomous and is inspired#dungeon meshi#dunmesh meta

General Rules
No AI usage. No plagiarism. This will result in a permanent ban.
Don't be rude. It’s okay to have discussions on why you do or don’t like ships but not at the expense of other real life humans. All ships are welcome, as well as non-ship/gen fics. We’re here to have fun, not have ship wars. This will result in a permanent ban.
You signed up for this, finish your work. Two extensions of 7 days are allowed as long as it's properly communicated to staff via email. If you need more, please reach out to staff and we can try to work something out.
Be communicative.
Have a good time! (I demand it as your dungeon lord.)
Pairings are assigned first come/first serve from a blind choice of summaries. This is to avoid people preplanning pairings. We want you to meet new friends!
If you plan on signing up multiple times, please fill out the sign up form for each time. You can write two fics and do two arts. Groups should sign up under one form. Please be aware of your limits! No need to stress yourself out.
Groups still count for one of your art/fic slots.
Author Requirements
At least 10,000 words by the end of the event, polished. (There will be three check in dates to help make sure you’re still on track. These are required. Early check-ins are fine!)
Authors may work in pairings but the word minimum is 15,000 instead of 10,000.
Talk to your artists!
While beta readers are not required, they are encouraged!
Must be about Dungeon Meshi and have Dungeon Meshi characters. (OCs and crossovers are welcome but the majority of characters should be Dungeon Meshi characters.)
Works are allowed in any language, just make sure your group can clearly communicate about the story!
Don’t talk about your fic outside of your specific group. Is a secret!
Fics should be new and should not have any work done on them prior to the event starting. By new work, we mean it should not be finished or be polished. You can have it outlined, thought up, started, that kind of thing.
When you post on your posting day, make sure you give a link to the mods so we can share it!
Authors can art but not for their own story.
If you cannot finish on time, please let mods know as soon as possible so we can assign your artists to other fics.
Artist Requirements
At least one fully completed work. Can be any form of art. (Dolls, paintings, animations, written music/played music, a delicious meal! All allowed. If you aren’t sure, reach out to mods!)
You can work on two fics but both must have fully completed works.
Two artists can work on the same fic but there must be two completed works for the fic.
Art must be posted on the same day as fic.
Check ins are required
If you cannot finish on time, please let mods know as soon as possible so we can assign a new artist to the writer.

Continuing reading meshi
(Previous post)
That pannel is so goofy lol
I really cant wait to see how the anime adapts these pages, theyre so cool and the speech bubble cant be done in anime, unless they do use the visual of a bubble anyway
This chapter was so cool.
Final battle Kjsshajavs7equagah
OH BOY OH DUDE OH SH-
THAT'S LAIOS' PERFECT MONSTER AKSHSJSSHJ
Also the lion's manipulayion is so terrifying 0.0
He's so blorbo
(Dadchuck shining thru)
I have no idea where the ship of these two comes from but what even kabru? Why the shoujo bg sparkles?? 0.0
Chulcklechuck :(
(The official translation says "no dooon't" whoch sounds so much more vunerable, desperate and helpless and it makes it more sad :(( )
I love how well defined kui writes and draws each character. These winged lion laioses look so unsettling and really just not him at all just from the body language and tone and its so cool
Oh wow these are super disturbing images 0.0
Just like a dog >:)
:000 (so cool how the eating desires thing was hinted at when we got the black bg pannel of the notebook page)
Thinking about how dungeon meshi could have litterally just ended after they revived Falin from the red dragon's stomach if after they revived her and washed her up and ate, they ask her to teleport them up to the outside of the dungeon.
I mean, the winges lion's magic doesn't reach outside of the dungeon so falin would probably have not felt a need to go back into the dungeon since whatever lured her to thistle would not have reached her outside. Bam happy ending (lol) (i have since been told why that wouldn't work...)
Oh Shuro's poor ears =_=
Also: bamboozled Laios, lol
Totally normal request
Ooh i didnt notice any mention of religions before. Im kinda curious now as to what types of religions there are and what they entail in this world 👀
Also what even is that face in that last pannel, laios???? 0.0
List of priorities: less important -> most important
Eat monsters, eat dragon, eat a world ending demon, eat sister
Dawww lookat them :))
Also chilchuckle... what are ya doin? You're not lifting anything what's that face for? (All of their faces in this pannel are masterpieces)
Them.
Awwwww the baby! He's so sweet :(
I can see why he's a blorbo 💖
This was a long one 0.0
Next ine will probably not be this long. Ive been struggling to have motivation to read anything lately so this took ages to post.
Near the end now and its so crazy 0.0 i dont want it goneeeee :((
Im gonna buy the adventurers bible when i finish this. I want to see all the lil goodies and i just love this series so much anyway
(Next post - final three chapters!!)

Dungeon Meshi Volume 7 Part 3
Finishing up tonight's liveblog! Let's traumatize some dwarfs!
So... is it ever explained why there is all this gold? Did Thistle just think it would be funny to make "golden country" literal?
Interesting that even this early, Senshi may have been considering teaming up with the orcs. If the orcs can survive, why can't we?
Later, Senshi states that hippogriff soup is his favorite food. At the time, I interpreted this as Senshi really really liking the flavor, adding another layer to his trauma, that he might actually like being a cannibal. But I guess it's just his favorite because of the relief it brought.
That's neat. He managed to reverse engineer the dwarven navigation code all by himself.
Uh, no Laios. He left out ~70 years that occured where he lived around the island not eating monsters. He's like, 45 in tall-man years.
While I do like Chilchuck trying to look out for Senshi, I do like the anime cutting this bit. Leaving it ambiguous for the audience to figure out almost makes it more horrifying to consider.
Rocs are so cool. So many times you see them reduced to a more reasonable size, but sometimes you just need a really big freaking monster.
Fools! He's been five steps ahead of you the whole time!
Wait, if you knew hippogriffs are native to this dungeon, then why was your initial Falin imposter guess a griffin?
Sooo... how do you know it's hippogriff meat? What if it turned to pegasus? Or normal giant eagle?
A precious image. I think this is part of why I have trouble shipping anyone in this manga. Everyone is too goddamn wholesome. Also fittingly, this marks the halfway point of the manga, with the crew reaffirming their bond.
I used to think self-driving cars were the coolest thing. Then capitalism ruined it.
Yeah, but then you have to deal with the awkward mid-length phase where he looks like Falin.
Eww. Another good reason not to start that familiar cookbook.
I'm not giving you context. You can't make me. Also, why does the low-rez minotaur have completely different mammary anatomy than the high-rez one?
Is this worth checking out? Curious that I haven't heard a wink about it despite how deep in the meshi hole I am.
And that was volume 7! Join me next time as I venture into the forbidden world of post-anime chapters!
