Ponyboy: Darry hates me and would put me in a boy’s home if Sodapop let him, he can’t stand me, I bet he wishes he never got stuck with me.

𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 - im a little behind on requets but im getting there! i've got my final exam of this week tomorrow and then i'll be a lot speedier, i promise. asks are still open for requests!!
𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 - 1.6k
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 - mentions of fighting, getting jumped and small injury detail
Dallas Winston - The room is quiet as you card your fingers through Dallas’ hair, the greaser’s head resting against your thigh. His eyes are closed, and there's a nasty bruise blossoming on his cheekbone, accompanied by a few bloodied scrapes that he refuses to let you clean. There’s dried blood crusted beneath his nose, which you wipe away gently with the pad of your thumb, humming softly under your breath as he breathes out a low, soft groan. “You alright?” Your tone is barely above a whisper as you tug at the ends of his mussy locks, pushing them back from his face. He blinks once or twice, his eyelashes fanning against his cheeks, and his expression is a little less pained than it was just minutes ago. “Yeah,” he murmurs after a moment, “fine.” He shifts a little bit so that his head is now more firmly planted upon your lap, and he wraps an arm around your waist, pulling you closer in a half embrace. You reach down between the two of you and retrieve the ice pack that is sitting forgotten beside you, pressing it against his swollen cheek once more. He makes a disgruntled noise but doesn't open his eyes again. “Sorry 'bout this.” His voice is rough, strained from the exertion: “Y' shouldn't have to take care of me all the damn time.” The words fall heavy between the two of you as he speaks, and you smile softly, shaking your head. “It ain't too much trouble, really.” You rub small circles against his bicep, pressing a light kiss to his forehead. “And besides...” your voice drops to an almost conspiratorial murmur, “I like taking care of you. It makes me feel better when I know you're not lying dead in a ditch somewhere.” He gives you a lopsided grin at that, eyes still closed. “You've got so much faith in me, doll.” Your smile widens, feeling something twist inside of you. You take his hand, squeezing it gently before pressing a quick kiss to his busted-up knuckles. “Whatever.”
Sodapop Curtis - A small sigh leaves your lips as Soda buries his face in your chest, arms wrapped tightly around your middle, tears cascading down his cheeks as he struggles for air. It pains you to see him like this, his usual bright smile replaced with a look of pure anguish, silent sobs racking his body. You rub slow circles against his back, mumbling soft words of reassurance into his ear as he clings to your shirt. “I don’t understand,” he gasps, his voice thick with emotion. “Why can't they just get along? They never used to be like this. A shudder runs through him, and you tighten your hold on him, rocking him a bit back and forth as he cries. “Shh, Soda, hey, you need to breathe,” you murmur soothingly, combing your fingers through his hair. “You’re gonna make yourself sick.” You press a soft kiss to the top of his head, hushing him quietly as his cries gradually abate. “I just want them to get along.” Soda whispers brokenly, burying his face against your collarbones. “I'm tired of being made to pick sides. I don't wanna be in the middle all the time.” You hum sympathetically, shifting slightly so that you can wrap both arms around him and pull him as close as physically possible. Soda melts into your touch, relaxing fully against you. You can tell he's exhausted, both emotionally and physically. "I hate it.” He sounds miserable. “All they do is yell at each other. Darry is way too hard on Pony, and Pony's trying his hardest, but he can only take so much–" Soda stops abruptly, his breath hitched in his throat as another sob tears from him, wracking his body. His grip tightens around your middle and your heart clenches painfully at the sight. “I just want things to go back to normal.” You give a slow nod, closing your eyes. “I know, I know. It'll be okay.” You press another gentle kiss to his temple and run your hands slowly up and down his spine, trying to offer as much comfort as you can. He relaxes under your touch, melting further into you as he tries to take deep, steady breaths, struggling to control himself. You tilt his chin up so that he's looking at you once more, running your thumb over his cheek. “I love you, you know” “Mm,” he hums, blinking rapidly to rid his vision of the last remnants of tears. His eyes meet yours, and even though his gaze is glassy and filled with sadness and pain, his expression is soft and tender. “Love you too.”
Ponyboy Curtis - You're sitting in the lot, your jacket pulled tightly around you, when you hear the sound of approaching footsteps. You stiffen and turn sharply, expecting to see a group of drunken socs or the odd greaser looking for trouble, only to come face to face with none other than Ponyboy Curtis. He has tears streaming down his cheeks, his hair mused as he all but throws himself at you, shoulders shaking and chest heaving. You don’t speak a word as you pull him into your arms, rubbing your hands over his shoulders in an attempt to calm him. His head comes to rest on your shoulder, one fist clutching the front of your sweater as tight as possible, the other hanging uselessly by his side. For several moments, he sits in silence, letting you hold him while he finally manages to collect himself. Then he pulls back, wiping furiously at his face. “Sorry…” You don’t miss the way he averts his gaze from you as he speaks, refusing to make eye contact. “Didn't mean to bother you; I just—” You shake your head, interrupting him. “There’s no reason for you to apologise.” You pause, considering for a long moment before continuing. “What's up?” He exhales shakily, then hesitantly meets your gaze again. “I—Darry yelled at me again. He got real mad this time.” His voice cracks, and you pull him close once more. You know Darry’s been harder on him as of late, expecting too much of a boy Pony’s age. You know he means well, but you also know the toll it’s been taking on the younger Curtis brother and how difficult these past few weeks have been for him. “Sometimes I don't think Darry likes me very much.” You can hear the vulnerability in his tone, unable to miss how broken he appears. He's not crying anymore; if anything, he looks a little embarrassed and ashamed. You frown, brushing his damp bangs from his forehead. “Don't be ridiculous.” Your tone is firm, determined to keep him from ever getting caught up in that dark spiral. “He cares about you a whole lot.” “He's got a funny way of showin' it.” Pony grumbles softly, and you can't help but laugh at his bluntness, wrapping your arms tighter around him. “I wish he'd be nicer. I really don't like all the fighting we do.” “I know. But it'll get easier.” You look down at him. “If you want, I can go talk some sense into him.” That earns you a smile as Ponyboy nods, squeezing you a little tighter. “Good luck. I doubt he’ll listen.” You press a quick kiss to his forehead, smiling softly. “I’ll try my best.”
Johnny Cade - Arms circle around your waist, gripping onto you tightly as you comb your fingers through his tangled, and still heavily greased, hair. Johnny’s head rests in your lap, eyes squeezed shut as he tries desperately to fall into some sort of relaxed state, but he just can't seem to find the will within himself to do so. You watch him silently, running a finger absently along his jawline, taking in the bruises and cuts littering his face and arms. He looks worn thin and broken; his cheeks are tear-stained and hollowed by exhaustion. His breathing remains unsteady and uneven, his skin pale, and you can't help but reach out and brush the pad of your thumb across the faint lines beneath his eyes, your brow furrowing deeply. He flinches slightly but doesn’t open his eyes, his breath hitching. “Sorry,” You whisper, going back to smoothing your hand over his hair. “Didn’t mean to startle you.” Johnny lets out a soft sigh, leaning his forehead against your stomach. “S' okay…” He shifts a little closer to you, reaching for your hand and lacing your fingers together. “...just glad yer here.” You bite your lower lip, tracing patterns into the back of his hand with your thumb, pressing soft kisses against his forehead as you let him snuggle closer, relishing in the simple closeness of it all. It eases your nerves knowing he's safe with you and calms the storm raging inside of you. Your mind wanders back to earlier, the images of him lying, half-dead, in that field flashing unbidden through your mind. It takes a lot to make Johnny Cade cry, but the second you had knelt down beside him and pulled him into your arms while the gang huddled about you, his composure had completely crumbled. Sobs had wracked his body, shaking his entire frame, and you could do nothing but hold him until he had finally calmed down. And now, here he was, curled up into your embrace, clinging to you like a lifeline. Every little noise made him jump, every sudden movement made his muscles tense, and your heart ached for him. You wanted so badly to make everything better, but there was nothing you could do. All you could do was stay there, holding him as he cried, wishing that there was something you could do besides sit by and whisper softly to him. But, you know, right now, just you being there is enough for him.

「 you are—unforgettable.」
IN WHICH—you’re them and they’re you!♡ ໋֢ 👒✧
🍵ヾFT. THE GREASERS࿐ྀུ ♡
⌗ 👒 notes !𖥔༌ ᰷ ﹅ people in this fic refer to two-bit as ‘keith.’ who cuz who the FUCK says ‘he got his two-bits in🤓’ NOBODY! but in the descriptive parts he will be two-bit. ALSO IF U DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT I’M SAYING LOOK IN THE TAGS!
Ponyboy Curtis ;
his class was gonna watch this movie before reading a book. ‘the outsiders,’ or somethin’.
it was made in the ‘80’s—he didn’t want to even watch it. watching movies in class was the worst!
ponyboy sat at his desk, head in his arms. he heard the music and looked up, chin resting on his arms.
when ponyboy seen you writing down and narrating, he could’ve sworn he died and came back to life. LIKE WHEN HE HEARD YOUR VOICEEE HE GOT A LITTLE BLUSH ON HIS CHEEKS.
his friends beside him noticed, snickering to themselves. they shoved him, asking if that was his future partner. he just pushed them off, quietly telling them to fuck off.
when ponyboy seen you covered in the soot??? phew—he questioned his morals, man. and THEN HE SEEN YOU BEAT UP?? he was getting FED.
ponyboy came out of that school a new man.
his ears were hot, his cheeks were red, and he was already looking up edits of you. ponyboy shoved those almost broken wired apple headphones in his ears and tuned everyone out.
when he got home he ignored any questions darry and soda threw at him and immediately went to his room. ponyboy quietly closed the door before hopping into bed, pulling out his phone, and going on tiktok.
spent like a solid 30 minutes tweaking over edits of you. like full on screaming into his pillow—i’m so serious.
“darry, what the hell is that noise?”
“i dunn—ponyboy?”
“AHHH!!”
when he found out that, outside of the outsiders, you’re decades older than him he was SO HEARTBROKEN.
the gang seen him looking at photos of you and immediately started teasing him. he absolutely tried to back himself up with stutters.
“they’re how much years older than you, bro?”
“NONO HEAR ME OUT, PLEASE! KEITH, BRO, PLEASE.”
reads fanfic. look at me in the eyes and try to tell me that ponyboy motherfucking curtis doesn’t read fanfiction.
you can’t.
like bro he’s so desperate for more content of you to the point where he writes the fics he yearns for—got pretty popular to.
“why the fuck is your phone blowing up?”
“PLEASE don’t ask me any questions about it.”
he’s a freak. he knows everything about you. ponyboy’s even began to watch your interview’s about the movie. and your other movies.
literally a teenage girl.
“THEY’RE SO FINE THOUGH, PLEASE!”
“nuh-uh.”
“FUCK YOU MEAN ‘NUH-UH’?”
Johnny Cade ;
seen you when he was watching random movies at the curtis house. at first he was like, ‘wait!! they’re so me coded😛.’ it never occurred to him that you could be so cute.
he seen you crying and something in him like actually snapped.
“wait….am i getting a crush? they’re kinda…”
when he seen the equivalent of ponyboy in this universe snuggled up to you in the church he was soooo jealous.
yk that one audio where it’s like, “how long is he gon’ be talking to my WIFE.” that’s literally johnny cade when he seen that person kiss the top of your head.
“what the fuck?”
“…what do you mean?”
“nothin’. it’s just kinda bullshit that they swoop in and steal my chance😒.”
“you never had one.”
“okay, pal😐.”
heart broke when he seen you in the hospital bed btw. like was full on gripping onto a pillow with tears in his eyes.
johnny was in such denial when he seen you die😭. ‘bro, no. they literally aren’t dead.’/‘guys!! it’s just a prank!!’
when he got to the scene he was in SHAMBLES. HE WAS INCONSOLABLE. ripping his hair out, screaming, crying, allat.
“stay gold…”
“NOOOOOOO-“
was so pissed when you didn’t come back. was even more pissed when your letter was read out loud.
“HOW COULD THEY KILL THEM OFF?? THEY DIDN’T DESERVE IT!”
“johnny, it’s a movie.”
“this is so unfair. i hate movies.”
gets nervous looking at photos of you. like to the point where he tries to look up your name on pinterest before bailing mid sentence and giggling. like full on throwing his phone across the room, kicking his feet.
will talk for hours about you. thinks your the coolest character ever!! defends you like his life depends on it.
“they killed someone?”
“so?? you’re acting like you wouldn’t do it to🤣🤣 fake ahh friend.”
—
“they legit can’t stand up for themselves. you want someone like that to be out walking them streets?”
“oh, god for bid a person has trauma. and YES I DO🗣️. i hope they walk right into my arms, HO.”
all said online btw. he would never ruin his ego by speaking like this. i am a strong believer johnny cade puts up a strong front online.
johnny literally thinks you’re the cutest person he’s ever seen. like his cheeks get so hot when he thinks about you and he gets a silly little smile on his face.
he looks at photos of you and his friends think he has a little girlfriend.
“who you textin’, johnnycakes?”
“nobody-uh!”
“c’mon—we see that smile!”
and it’s literally just you with blood dripping down your face.
Dallas Winston ;
caught a glimpse of you at some girls house he slept at. literally stopped dead in his tracks as he seen you light a cigarette before mumbling, ‘nothin’ legal, man.’
“i-uh, what movie’s this?”
“huh? oh, the outsiders. pretty good movie.”
he thanked her and threw on his jacket before speed walking to bucks place. he had to watch this movie or he’s actually lose it.
imagine buck’s bar is actually a house, kay? dallas sits his pretty little ass on that couch, flips to whatever streaming service, and turns on ‘the outsiders.’
thought it was all boring until he seen you walk into frame—mocking the main character. at that very moment he was all, ‘wait that’s kinda hot.’
seeing you help the two younger ones run away while still acting tough was so attractive to him. dallas felt like he was losing his mind.
seeing you run in after the two into the church kinda made his knees weak.
“BAE NO!”
“what the hell are you screamin’ ‘bout?”
“nothin’, buck…”
he was so scared that you’d die in the fire. (little did old dallas know am i right fellas!!!!) like i swear to god he was so scared you’d end up like the johnny in this universe.
WHEN HE SEEN YOU FIGHTINGGG. he went feral. dallas was like so flustered. he was trying so hard to hide his blush to the ghosts around him with his hair.
his flush was short lived however. seeing you cry and then literally point a gun at a cashier was lowkey whiplash for him.
“what the fuck is happening?”
dallas figured out what was gonna happen early on and started kinda tearing up. like one tear formed in his eye before he blinked it away. but he was still devastated.
WHEN DALLY HEARD SOMEONE SCREAM “they’re just a kid!” he lost it. like actually. he went limp on the couch and spaced out. like damn…his fiancé, who doesn’t know they’re his fiancé yet, really WAS just a kid.
nobody knows he likes the outsiders OR that he has a crush on you. and they CAN’T know, it’s way too embarrassing. like actually.
when he’s with the gang and he’s just casually scrolling on tiktok and he sees the tags with your name, he immediately favourites it and scrolls. he saved it for later when he’s alone.
also defends you like there’s no tomorrow.
“they were hitting on someone who had a partner??”
“okay?? fucking live a little jesus.”
—
“THEY’RE A FUCKING CRIMINAL?”
“i’m into it tho lmfao”
swears up and down that if you and him were in a room together—you’d have a crush on him. top tier delusion.
like if he gets drunk with keith, he will rant about it.
“no—hear me out. put me in a room with y/n l/n and i swear to god they’re gonna be madly in love with me.”
“no they won’t, dallas.”
“yuh-huh.”
looks at photos of you and probably has you as his pfp on his spam. includes you in every other photo dump.
Sodapop Curtis ;
seen an edit of you on tiktok and audibly gasped. full on went, “WHO IS THATT😜” went to the tags and just scrolled under it for a good long while.
he seen a angst edit of you and made up his mind that he had to watch the movie.
for the while that you weren’t on screen, he was trying to push through. he really was. but deep down—in his head he was screaming, “BORING! SHOW ME THE PRETTY ONE!!”
when sodapop seen you tending to your younger sibling he could’ve sworn he was on cloud 9.
“my turn when :/.”
WHEN SODA SEEN YOU GET OUT OF THE SHOWERRR😭😭. he lost his BREATH like was full on gripping his imaginary pearls.
had to take a breather to walk around the house before unpausing the movie. had a blush across his cheeks, i can’t even lie.
when he learned that you were described as, “movie star attractive,” all he did was nod. like,
“mhm. i always knew my fiancé was good looking.”
SODA WAS APPALLED WHEN HE FOUND OUT THAT YOUR PARTNER CHEATED ON YOU. like jaw was on the FLOOR.
“I COULD TREAT THEM BETTER🗣️🗣️ THEY KNOW WHERE HOME IS!!”
he is so open about his little crush in you—it’s so cute :(
“steve, look at ‘em.”
“i see them—get your fuckin’ phone outta my face.”
“aren’t they so perfect??🤭🤭”
“i guess.”
“well, BACK OFF. we’re already happily married.”
“in your dreams maybe.”
“oh my god.”
soda has you as his pfp on at least two platforms. his name on one platform is “y/n’s boyfriend (REAL!)”
seeing you run out on your siblings after they grouped you into your argument made him just wanna hug you so bad. like he just wanted to tell you it was all gonna be okay.
has a album in his photos where it’s edits of you and photos. giggles and twirls his hair as he looks at it.
Darry Curtis ;
his parents used to watch the movie all the time and you’ve always just been a life long crush of his.
like when younger darry seen you walk into frame, comforting your kid sibling, something in his head snapped.
suddenly everything was in slow motion, there were hearts everywhere, he had rose coloured glasses on, and for some reason—harps play in the background.
as darry grew up it literally never went away. whenever the outsiders comes on when he’s home he always still goes, “woah.😍😍”
like he thinks you’re so fine.
he doesn’t like watch edits, read fanfic—none of that🗣️. but if he gets asked who is celebrity crush is—your name is coming out of his mouth ASAP.
“so, darry, who’s your celebrity cru-“
“y/n l/n.”
“but they’re a character?”
“Y/N L/N.”
he has like ONE printed out photo of you in his room from years ago. he knows exactly where it is and where to hide it, but he still keeps it.
at least once every two months, when everyone’s asleep and he has no work the next day, he’ll stay up just to watch the movie.
he’ll have a budlight in his hand as he watches you absolutely DEMOLISH at the rumble.
“i always knew they’d win.”
“you’ve watch this movie a thousand times.”
“PONYBOY?!”
the gang eventually found out his little crush on you. only light teasing ‘cause they’re so scared they’ll get that darry smoke if they push him further😭😭.
“oh my god! look, darry! you’re little crush is on screen!”
“steve, i will beat some sense into you if you don’t shut up.”
“…okay, bud.”
—
“when’s the weddin’?”
“after your funeral, keith.”
“wow. hater.”
Steve Randle ;
his dad fell asleep on the couch one night with this old movie playing in the background.
steve was about to turn it off before he caught a glimpse of you offering this half naked person some cake. he was all, ‘WAITTTT🙈🙈!!’
like he seen you in that sleeveless jacket and immediately fell in love. literally was on a mission to figure out who you were.
when he did? all he wanted to do was watch the outsiders. WHEN HE SEEN YOU SCOLDING THE MAIN CHARACTER HE SOO KNEW YOU WERE HIS TYPE
“wish they’d scold me like that…damn…😞✊”
was TWEAKING SOO HARD WHEN HE SEEN YOU ALL BLOODY WITH YOUR HEAD THROWN BACK.
“…you think i look tuff?”
“YES BAE!!!”
making his name on like insta or something, “y/n’s HUSBAND.” he puts emphasis on the husband because he believes that you want him so bad.
like actually. he’s fucking delusional.
“guys…they like cake…and I LIKE CAKE! do you see my vision??”
“no??”
“man, fuck you.”
photo dumps on insta of pictures of you with the caption, “from our honeymoon 😍😍😛😛!” his friends are ripping him apart in comments btw.
WOULD GO FOR WAR FOR YOU.
“they’re actually so gross what.”
“YOU’RE GROSS!🗣️ KEEP THEM OUT OF YOUR MOUTH YOU FOOL!!”
—
“they have 0 depth.”
“0 depth to YOU. to ME they’re the love of my life.”
Two-bit Matthews ;
seen the outsiders when he was drunk. he didn’t remember anything that night but the cute lil’ actor who was laughing after flirting with some rich lookin’ kid.
the only thing he remembers saying that night was,
“damn—when is it MY TURN😩😞”
WENT ON A FUCKING HUNT TO FIND THIS MOVIE ISTG. he was looking up shit that didn’t even matter to the plot—so he got different movies each time.
‘cute actor flirting’
‘cute actor in old ass movie’
‘mickey mouse shirt’
‘when was mickey mouse created’
‘who is walt disney’
he got a little distracted but that’s not the point. two-bit found the movie and cried tears of joy. fell to his knees and all😭.
he immediately turned the outsiders on and waited to see you. HE WAS SOO SAD TO FIND OUT YOU HAD LIKE SUCH LITTLE SCREENTIME.
but he worked with it. he was taking SO MUCH PHOTOS OF HIS TV WHEN YOU WERE ON SCREEN LMFAO. they were all so shaky too😭😭.
doesn’t shut the fuck up about you.
“they want me so bad🤣🤣😂😂.”
“they wouldn’t touch you with a ten foot pole, keith.”
“what if i killed myse-”
—
“they’re so find i won’t ‘em.”
“what the fuck are you saying?”
“what are YOU SAYING? back up.”
saves edits of you. he is ABSOLUTELY THE TYPE OF PERSON TO SAY THE MOST OUT OF POCKET SHIT ABOUT YOU IN THE COMMENTS LMFAOOO
‘they could beat the shit out of me and i thank them :3’
‘WHAT?’
‘omg who said that’
you are his profile picture everywhere. and anywhere.
genuinely believe you’re the love of his life. i swear to god he does. KING OF DELUSION ABOVE ALL ELSE!

five times darry helped ponyboy sleep and one time pony helped darry :)
this took me soo long lol sorry gang
“oh, baby, what are you doing up?” mama asked him quietly.
darry shrugged his little 6-year-old shoulders, “the baby was crying, i wanted to make sure he was okay…”
darry was always a light sleeper. the smallest things could wake him up, a train passing through town, a plane flying overhead, soda tossing a little too much next to him. he also always woke up when the baby cried at night.
ponyboy was still just a tiny little baby, and he had only been around for a couple of months, but darry already knew he would protect him with everything he had. his parents always did say he was born to be a big brother.
darry hadn’t realized at first what had woken him up, at first he thought soda had just rolled over and stolen the blankets again, until he heard the familiar footsteps hurrying towards the nursery across the hallway. he pushed himself out of bed and padded across the hallway, leaning up against the threshold of the nursery to watch mama rock the baby until he quieted down.
“you should go back to bed, sweetheart, it’s so late and you’ve got school in the morning,” mama waved him over and hugged him to her side, gliding a hand through his hair.
“is ponyboy okay?” he asked quietly.
she nodded, crouching down next to him so he could see the baby. she knew he did better understanding things when he could see them for himself, “see? he’s alright, he’s not that great at sleeping all night just yet, though.”
“well cut him a break,” darry smiled. “he’s still new here.”
mama laughed softly and it looked like she was about to tell him to go back to bed again when pony’s fussing and crying started back up.
“can i help?” darry piped up, hurrying over and hopping onto the rocking chair.
mama hesitated, but seemed to decide it was worth a shot, “sure, baby, but if he doesn’t stop crying, though, i gotta take him back. he loves you a whole lot, but sometimes babies just want their mama.”
“i know,” darry nodded, gently taking the baby and holding him in his lap, just like he’d practiced when soda was born.
it took a few seconds of rocking him, but pony started to settle. he let out a couple of whines, but darry had him asleep in a couple of minutes. mama could only stand there and watch her boys, her heart swelling as she watched darry take care of the baby like and old pro.
“your brother really loves you, huh, ponybaby?” she asked sweetly, gently taking him from darry’s arms and holding him close.
“i do,” darry shrugged with a small smile.
“i know you do, baby,” she bent down and kissed his forehead. “now why don’t you head back to bed, i’ll come check on you once i’ve got him settled.”
it wasn’t necessarily a nightmare, pony had had those, and this wasn’t the same thing. either way, he was still too spooked to want to stay in his room all by himself.
he froze in the doorway. their parents’ room was at the end of the hallway, and who knows what all was hiding in the dark? he was only 4, lots of things are pretty scary when you’re that little, and as much as he wanted his mama, he could see the nightlight in darry and soda’s room, and all he had to do to get in there was get across the hallway… he could do that.
he made up his mind, pushed their door open and had to laugh at soda, sprawled out over the bed, his hair falling every which way and his mouth hanging open. pony thought for a moment about crawling up with him and trying to get a couple of snuggles out of him before darry sat up on the other side of the bed.
“pony?” he asked sleepily. “what’s going on? are you okay?”
pony hadn’t realized how hard he had been trying not to cry and how hard it had been for him to keep himself together. all of his feelings crashing down onto him at once, he raced over to darry’s side of the bed and threw himself at his brother.
“oh, kiddo, what’s the matter?” darry hugged ponyboy to him, pulling him up onto the bed and cradling him in his lap. “it’s okay, i’ve got ya.”
“i- i had…” pony hiccuped out, but his breath caught in his throat and darry could feel him getting worked up.
“shh, big breaths, baby,” darry hushed him, placing a hand on his chest and taking deep breaths for pony to follow.
pony seemed to calm down after a few minutes, and managed to get out, “i had a dream…”
“ah, i see,” darry nodded, resting his cheek against pony’s head and rocking him gently. “but you were so brave and came and found someone, i’m so proud of you.”
“but…” pony seemed to scold himself for a moment. “but i still cried…”
“oh, that’s okay, baby,” darry pressed another kiss to pony’s head. “there’s nothing wrong with crying. it just means your feelings are a little bit bigger than you, but that’s okay! because the bad dream wasn’t real, and i’m never gonna let anything happen to you.”
pony whimpered again, and darry leaned down and whispered, “you wanna know a secret?”
pony nodded hesitantly.
“soda cries when he has big feelings, too.”
pony sniffled, “really?”
“yeah! see? there’s nothing wrong with needing to cry,” darry felt pony snuggle into him more and felt his heart swell. “how about you stay in here with us tonight?”
pony yawned and nodded, and darry shifted them so they were laying down and pony was still bundled up in his arms.
pony rolled over to face darry quickly, “what if i have another dream?”
darry smiled and ruffled his hair, “then it’s a good thing i’m right here.”
a small part of darry always knew that their parents were privy to his little escapades to pony’s room after they put him to bed. it always took them a pretty long time to get soda calmed down enough to sleep, which left darry to his own devices for however long it took them.
it was the same as every night, once soda had picked out a few books from the shelf in the living room and retreated with their parents into his and darry’s bedroom, darry quietly crept into the nursery.
pony was sitting up in his toddler bed, anxiously waiting for darry, just like he always did.
“did you bring the book?” he asked excitedly, and darry pulled out his school copy of romeo and juliet, tattered and messily annotated.
darry couldn’t understand why his 6-year-old brother loved his class novels so much or whether or not he even understood them, but he was excited about it all the same.
“what happened last night?” darry asked, settling down next to pony and pulling the blankets over his legs.
“they were on the balcony!” pony reminded him, snuggling into darry’s side.
“oh right,” darry smiled. “and romeo was forgetting about rosalind.”
“and he fought with ben…” pony struggled to remember the name for a second before looking up at darry for help.
“benvolio.”
darry opened up the book and started reading the scene he had been assigned in class, pony chiming in occasionally. by the time they finished the scene, pony was leaning heavily against darry’s side. darry folded down the corner of the page and set it down on the nightstand, wrapping an arm around pony as he got more and more drowsy.
“alright, baby, time to go to sleep,” darry whispered into pony’s hair, pressing a quick kiss to the top of his head. he started to scoot out from the covers, but pony pushed himself up and yanked darry back down, his little arms wrapped tightly around darry’s waist. darry just giggled, “pony, i gotta go to bed, too.”
“then go to bed here,” pony mumbled, his voice muffled against darry’s stomach.
darry laughed quietly, “you drive a hard bargain, kiddo, i’ll stay with you until you fall asleep, okay?”
pony threw the blankets back and plastered himself to darry’s side the minute he laid down. the toddler sized twin bed was too small for the both of them, but darry was having a hard time caring. whether it was soda or ponyboy, he could sleep so easily knowing they were safe because they were with him.
“darry, are you in here, honey?” mama whispered as she pushed ponyboy’s door open after finally getting soda to sleep. she froze, catching her boys in the bed together. her eldest, curled up protectively with half of the blankets kicked to the other side of the bed in favor of keeping ponyboy warm, and her baby, wrapped securely in his big brother’s arms, drooling onto the pillow and both of them fast asleep.
she quietly moved into the room and fixed the blankets so they were both covered properly. ponyboy stirred for a moment, but went straight back to sleep after a kiss to his forehead from his mama.
she flicked on pony’s nightlight and stopped to lean against the doorway to watch them for a few more minutes. when her husband finally came to find her after laying with soda until he was sure the kid was asleep, he whispered, “third time this week… want me to carry darry back to his room?”
she just shook her head and smiled, “no, let them sleep.”
“i thought you’d be asleep by now.”
ponyboy jumped at the abrupt sound of his brother’s voice and the front door opening. it was late. too late for pony to still be awake on a school night, but there he was, leaning up against the kitchen counter with a granola bar and what looked like a glass of apple juice.
pony just shook his head, not meeting darry’s eye, “couldn’t sleep…”
“no?” darry closed the door quietly, locking it behind him. truth be told, he had been hoping everyone would be asleep so that he could sneak back in unnoticed, but he knew pony would most likely only tell soda, who probably already knew anyways.
pony clearly had no intention of making it easy for him, either, “how was paul’s?”
“‘s alright,” darry shrugged, painfully aware that he hadn’t specified where he had been. “same as always.”
“football season’s been over you know…” pony said quietly.
darry felt his face go red, “i… i saw some of your meet today.”
pony rolled his eyes, “there wasn’t much to see.”
“sure there was,” darry walked over to the kitchen, grabbing the container of mixed berries from the fridge. he caught pony’s expression, looking at the glass of juice like it was the reason he hadn’t won. “hey, fourth ain’t bad at all, kid. you’re competing against kids that are much older than you. you’ve got a lotta time to be first. you’ve got no business losing sleep over that.”
“i know,” pony shrugged. “mom and dad said the same thing, soda wasn’t much help…”
darry understood. soda had never really understood why the two of them put so much stress on athletics, why it was so important for them. he never really got why it was so crushing when darry lost a game or pony didn’t place well in a meet.
darry knew ponyboy well enough to know that trying to comfort him wasn’t going to get him anywhere, he needed something else to think about.
“you wanna watch some cartoons? they’ve got a mickey rerun marathon going,” darry offered, gesturing to the couch using the hand holding the bowl of berries.
pony nodded wordlessly. darry grabbed the remote and settled down on the couch and was shocked when pony flopped down right next to him and curled up into his side.
“woah,” darry chuckled, flipping through the channels and throwing an arm over pony. “that bad, huh?
pony buried his face in darry’s side, “shut up…”
darry found the channel and set the remote down, taking deep, calming breaths that he knew pony would match and would probably help him sleep.
if darry was being honest, he missed how much time he used to get to spend with pony. even if they used to fight all the time, at least they saw each other enough to have an argument in the first place. now, they were both so caught up in their own lives that they hardly even saw each other. if darry wasn’t at a school event or looking at college stuff, then pony was at track, and if pony didn’t have homework, then darry was at paul’s.
it didn’t take long for pony to fall asleep. darry let the episode finish before turning off the tv and gently maneuvering pony into his arms to carry him to bed. he tried to push open the door to pony and soda’s room, but the door was latched shut and darry didn’t exactly have a free hand. thinking better of waking up pony or soda, he carried pony to his own room and tucked him under the blankets.
he changed into pajamas quickly and slid in next to his brother, doing his best not to shuffle him around too much. darry’s bed was far too small for both of them to fit comfortably anymore, but they would make it work.
pony stirred for a moment, beginning to wake up when the arm thrown over him was heavier than soda’s, but darry just ran a hand through his hair and whispered, “it’s okay, it’s just me. go back to sleep, honey.”
darry didn’t know how he was supposed to do anything anymore. it felt like he was in a strange limbo, the house had gone quiet and he felt so safe with all of his boys, who were much more his boys now than they had been a few hours prior, but in the morning, the world would keep spinning, and there wasn’t a thing he could do to stop it. he was having a hard enough time pulling in breath, let alone say anything to anyone.
he’d let the rest of the boys handle the comforting at first, letting steve hold soda and whisper to him until they fell asleep on the couch. johnny stuck with ponyboy, hugging him close when he had thrown up from the shock of it all.
they were all starting to run out of steam by midnight. steve whispered over soda’s head that he wasn’t going anywhere, but eventually, the boys all started to head out, johnny going with two-bit and dally heading back to buck’s for the night without a word. darry couldn’t blame them, this was a loss for them as much as it was for him, his parents had loved them just as much. his dad and his mama had been all of theirs, too. he couldn’t blame them, not really.
he was heading back to his room to put on his pajamas and pretend to try to sleep until he could sneak out of the house the next day to identify the bodies and start trying to make sense of what to do next unfulfilled he found ponyboy in the hallway.
he was quite a sight for fresh eyes. his green eyes were rubbed raw, angry and red, his skin was ghostly pale and his cheeks were flushed, and there was something about the way he was holding himself that seemed so exhausted. darry didn’t need an invitation, and he didn’t much care if pony was going to try to shove him off, he darted forward and enveloped pony in his arms.
if pony had any walls left up after that night, they all crumbled the moment darry had ahold of him. his knees buckled underneath him and they sank down to the floor.
darry had never seen pony like this, completely and utterly broken and lost and so goddamn scared, that it almost make him forget that he was doing the same thing. it was his parents, too. but what mattered the most now was ponyboy.
“i know, baby,” darry’s hand flew to the back of pony’s head. “you’re okay, i’m here.”
“nothing’s okay, dar,” pony sobbed miserably. “i can’t do it.”
“shh,” darry hushed him gently, rocking them back and forth. “i know, i know. i’m so sorry.”
he swallowed hard to keep the tears at bay, his chin resting on his baby brother’s head. he couldn’t take it away. he couldn’t ease the pain or do anything to make it better, and the realization hit darry like a physical blow. this was something they were just going to have to feel.
darry let pony cry into his shirt until he hiccuped and gagged and darry knew what was coming. he scooped pony into his arms and ran with him to the bathroom, rubbing his back as he threw up again. pony crumbled back into darry when it was over, sobs coming hard and fast.
“baby, i need you to take some deep breaths, you’re gonna be sick again if you keep working yourself up,” darry held pony’s head to his chest, his ear pressed to his heartbeat.
“i… i can’t…” pony wheezed. “what are we gonna do?”
“it’s gonna be okay, i promise, i don’t know a whole lot but i’m gonna make sure we’re okay. i’m okay, soda’s okay, you’re okay. and i’m never gonna let anything happen to either of you.”
it was all darry could do to keep his breath even enough for pony to follow, but despite everything, how scared he was and how hard he was crying, all pony could do was listen and slow down his breaths to match darry’s. he didn’t try to move, a dead weight on darry’s chest, his only comfort drawn from how tight his brother was holding onto him.
it could have been hours that they sat there on the bathroom floor, but eventually, pony slept. darry didn’t try to move, not until pony had been asleep for at least half an hour. he carefully pulled pony into his arms and carried him to his bed, stopping to make sure soda was still asleep with steve in the living room.
he used his hip to open pony’s bedroom door and set him down as gently as he could on the bed. pony rolled over slowly as darry covered him up and blinked up at his brother with his big, wet, eyes.
darry pushed his hair back gently, “go back to sleep, just try to rest, baby.”
“can you stay?”
if darry hadn’t been so close to pony, he would have missed it, but something in his shattered heart bloomed as his baby brother reached out for him, and all of a sudden, it was like pony was a baby and darry was helping him out of the crib in the smallest hours of the morning before anyone was awake. the world hadn’t hardened them and forced them apart, and ripped away both of their parents in one go, it was just darry and ponyboy.
it wasn’t enough. darry was painfully aware that it would never be enough and that he’d spend the rest of his life knowing it wouldn’t be. but in the worst moment of their lives, when they didn’t even know what hour it was, only that it had been dark for so long that it seemed like the sun would never rise again, it felt like maybe it could have been enough.
darry kicked off his shoes and climbed in next to pony, who was already almost asleep again. he knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep, but if being with pony all night meant that he would get some rest, it was worth it.
ponyboy was always worth it.
not for the first time, darry found himself in the kitchen at ten o’clock at night, unable to keep himself calm enough to sleep but too tired to stay awake. it was a vicious cycle, he knew it, but he couldn’t break himself out of it even if he tried.
pony had called to let him know that cherry and his study group had gone late and that she would give him a ride home. he knew pony was fine, but cherry’s house was 16 minutes away and it had already been 20…
“darry?” darry was grateful when soda’s voice startled him out of his tailspin.
he turned around slowly to see his brother in his too-big pajamas leaning against his doorframe.
“burning the midnight oil, pepsi?”
“you should go to bed, you’ve got work in the morning. i’ll wait up for pony.”
darry wanted to laugh, soda knew that wasn’t his responsibility and he had work just as much as darry did, but they both knew soda slept like a rock no matter what time it was.
“it’s okay, i wanna make sure he gets home okay,” darry shrugged.
soda looked apprehensive, “you’re sure?”
“positive, go back to bed. you look like you’re gonna fall asleep standin there,” darry furrowed his brows and cracked a smile at the state of his brother.
soda dragged himself back into his room and shut the door. darry busied himself by pouring a glass of water, and promptly almost spilled it when pony pushed the front door open.
“hey, darry, i’m sorry i’m so late, cherry’s dad got home and was giving her a hard time about having a guy over and-” pony started to explain, but was cut off by darry pulling him into a rib-cracking hug.
“you’re okay…” darry didn’t know if he was saying it to ponyboy or to himself, but it didn’t matter.
his little brother was home. he hadn’t come home soaked to the bone and scared to death after some socs tried to drown him. he wasn’t covered in bruises and cuts from switchblades. he was home. he was pressed up against darry and as long as darry had a hold on him, he could keep the kid safe. god, he would probably die for him if it came to it, he couldn’t imagine anything he wouldn’t do.
darry eventually let pony go, both of them taking a few steps back, “…sorry.”
pony just shrugged, “you give good hugs, y’know?”
darry cracked a smile, “go on and shower and get to bed, soda’s probably already asleep.”
pony nodded and headed towards the bathroom, and darry took up his spot at the kitchen counter. he could go to sleep now. he would be able to relax enough to drift off since pony was home, but he couldn’t seem to clear the dream from the night before from his mind.
he never really had dreams, at least not that he remembered, but ever since pony got back home, his brain taunted him with images of his little brother drowning in the fountain in the park, of him freezing to death in some old abandoned building, and that it was all his fault.
pony came out of the bathroom and into the kitchen, looking shocked that darry was still there.
“you should go to bed, too, dar,” pony nudged darry’s shoulder, taking a sip from the glass of water on the counter. “you look like you got hit by a truck.”
darry shrugged, “i will, just not that tired yet.”
pony fixed him with a stare that told him quite plainly that pony knew he was lying.
“you haven’t been sleeping much lately…”
“i don’t know, kiddo, it’s just been hard.”
“you’re having bad dreams, aren’t you?”
darry looked up at his brother. it was a rhetorical question, he already knew. and darry knew ponyboy well enough to know that there was no use lying to him. he nodded slowly.
how was he supposed to explain it to him? that every night his subconscious killed his little brother? that he woke up in a cold sweat almost every night? that he had to come to pony and soda’s room just to make sure they were both still breathing?
pony thought for a second before taking a few steps towards their parent’s bedroom, looking back and motioning for darry to come with him. darry followed cautiously, knowing what pony was probably going to have him do.
he pushed open the door and pony immediately headed for the bed, pushing the comforter back and crawling in.
“i started doing this after…” he trailed off, but darry knew anyways. “it helped. a lot.”
darry sighed and hesitantly crawled in next to pony. he didn’t understand at first, he almost wanted to tell pony that it was weird that they were in there at all, but the moment his head hit the pillows, he understood. it was like being wrapped up in everything he had missed so badly for months. it was like getting into the warm car after a freezing cold football practice, like a hug from his mama after a long day at school, like his little brothers waking him up on christmas morning.
he inhaled the smell, something long forgotten that almost made his head go foggy with how quickly he felt his heart slow down. mama’s perfume, daisies and vanilla, dad’s fragrance of cheap cologne and motor oil… and a smell that was far more familiar.
“is that… soda’s shampoo?”
pony nodded, “he comes in here a lot, i think more than he tells me.”
“i never do…” darry admitted guiltily. “it always felt wrong.”
“i know the feeling,” pony pulled the blankets up to his chin and flipping over onto his stomach, snuggling closer to darry. “but you should try to sleep, i promise, it’ll help.”
and darry didn’t know why, but he listened. he threw an arm over pony and sighed in the sweet scent of everything he’s ever loved.
the world started to go hazy, and it felt like he’d been awake for a hundred years.
he slept.

“Darry is so misunderstood he’s not a bad brother he works all day to support his brothers and lost his future when he lost his parents AND he has to fill the gap they left while staying strong for Soda and Pony etc etc”
Yes BUT consider that even with all of the effort and strain that is placed on him —alongside the clear love that he has for his brothers— that Darry is not without fault!! To say he’s a bad brother may be an exaggeration, but he is still flawed, and that’s what makes him such a great character, so by ignoring those flaws takes away from his depth and from his personality.
He’s distant (both physically and emotionally) and a bad communicator, and that leads to Pony thinking he hates him. Pony doesn’t share nearly as much with Darry as he does with Soda because he knows that he just won’t understand, and it leads to this disconnect between the two that could be fixed if they just talked about it but they don’t.
Imagine how many arguments the two of them had to have fought for Soda to break down. One of the only boys in the gang who doesn’t use substances and yet who can still get high on life, and one who understands and listens to others and tries and tries and tries to get the only family he has left to just stop fighting and try to see things from his brother’s perspective for once.
Consider “He doesn’t understand anything that is not plain hard fact.” and how Darry probably doesn’t even understand how much he’s hurting his brothers. The only reason he works so hard is to keep a roof over their heads and he’s sacrificed so much for them and he’d do it again in a heartbeat. He helps out around the house and makes sure that Pony’s doing alright in school. Sure, he’s stricter than their parents used to be with them, but that’s just because he worries and he cares. He lets both of his brothers go out and do whatever most of the time, as long as they stay safe, let him know where they’re going, and get home on time, so why is Pony being so difficult? He sees the logical side of things but can’t account for the emotional aspects.
And yeah, he helps Ponyboy with his math homework, but he also pushes him so much academically that Pony feels like his best is never enough and that it never will be.
Darry will always be there to support and love his brothers no matter what, but do they know that? Sodapop has a better grasp of the situation than Pony, but there’s still got to be things he worries about, especially since we’ve seen from his character that he tends to hold things in to keep the peace until he can’t let things go unsaid any longer.
Darry can’t fill the gaping chasm that his parents left and it’s unfair to place blame on him for not being able to do so, but it makes for so much more of an interesting conversation when his flaws are actually addressed instead of him just being called misunderstood if someone says he’s a bad person or brother and leaving it at that, or saying that “Yeah he’s flawed but look at everything else he does”

CAN YOU WRITE ANGST WHERE YOU BREAK UP WITH YOUR GREASER BOYFRIEND OR GREASER BOYFRIEND BREAKS UP WITH YOU AND KINDA LIKE HOW THEY WOULD REACT?? SORRY IF THIS HARD TO UNDERSTAND😭🤚
Summary: Breaking up with your greaser boyfriend Warnings: Mentions of break up, toxic behavior, angst Author's Note: sorry for not posting yesterday, drove to LAX to pick my friend up! PONYBOY CURTIS To be honest, he's not big on relationships, he's more focused on his family and, as selfish as it seems, himself. It's a shock to both of you when you start dating, more of a whirlwind of puppy love than anything mature. Of course, that means the relationship was doomed from the start. It was less bickering than just slowly growing apart, your relationship seemed to be sweet, but genuinely you two were better set off as friends, at least for now. There was no heated argument that broke you two up, just the drunken acknowledgement of the fact that you weren't really a couple, just close friends. It ended shortly after that, and you two are still friends, often joking about the 'dating' period. JOHNNY CADE Johnny is not emotionally ready for a relationship, especially if you expect anything from him. He's ok with having the title, being branded as a couple, but the effort is too draining for him. It was aparent from the start that you wouldn't get much out of the relationship other than a tie to Johnny, however you were willing to try and pull him from his shell.
But to no avail. You broke up with Johnny, pushing it off as just wanting to focus on yourself. Johnny knew why, but he didn't dwell much on it. Just asking if you would like to stay friends. SODAPOP CURTIS Sodapop is very very very egocentric. He's always got girls trying to hang around him, he's got his gang which makes him feel tuff and would always hype him up to do the wrong things (much to Darry's displeasure). So, of course, he has to have a girl that matches his big status. He wanted a girlfriend because he was tired of all the girls on his back. However, you were under the impression that he was truly into you. It was clear that he wasn't when you overheard him talking to Steve about it. You were mortified and broke up with him on the spot. He found that, although he was a 'tuff greaser', it seriously hurt him. STEVE RANDLE Steve is also very egocentric, but he's got more respect for ladies so your relationship was not started on such a sour note. It was instead because of his sense of responsibility. He saved you from getting jumped by a bunch of socs and when you confessed to him, (truly not expecting anything to come out of it) he immedietly recipricated, even if he really didn't. You could tell he was distant, so you broke it off quickly, explaining that he didn't have to recipricate and that you just wanted to get it off your chest. You two are still quite close today. TWO BIT MATHEWS Two is a gentleman, when he isn't drunk of course. He tried hitting on you when you were both drunk and one thing lead to another and suddenly you were stone cold sober with a relationship in your hands. You explained that you were piss drunk and that you weren't actually ready for a relationship that started so oddly. He agreed and so you two went your seperate ways for a couple of days. However, this had such an impact on the both of you that a week later you two went on a couple of dates, and then eventually in a happy relationship. DARRY CURTIS Darry has always tried to keep his girlfriends happy, but he hadn't been in a relationship in a while. Ever since he left highschool and college he'd been single.
Of course he was so struck by your beauty and personality that he tried to pull together a relationship with you, he tried his best, truly he did but he was stuck doing too much to focus on you and your relationship. You ended things on a bittersweet note, telling him that although you loved him a lot, you needed someone who could actually pay attention to you. Darry promised that when he could, he'd come back to you and would pursue you again. DALLAS WINSTON Dallas Winston doesn't give a damn about relationships after Sylvia. He's just as likely to spit on the ground you walk on than to drunkenly hit on you and try and score some action. He's actually not quite sure why you two are in a 'relationship', he doesn't remember how it happened, why or anything related to it. To be honest he was probably drunk. You, of course, broke up with him, he's an asshole with little to no care for others. He almost doesn't give two shits if not for the fact that YOU broke up with HIM, usually its him that breaks it off so he's making sure your feelings are as hurt as his ego is.

Dallas loves tussling Ponyboy’s hair, not quite playing with it, but messing with it enough to get a little glare from Pony.
Dallas randomly stops by the school to pick Johnny and Pony up and get them to ditch with him, usually to DQ’s or some diner.
It pisses Darry off.
Pony will sometimes sketch Dallas and Johnny cuddling after they’ve fallen asleep.
The gang doesn’t know, as per Dallas’ request, but if it were just Pony and Johnny they would have come out to the gang by now.
They don’t mind keeping it secret, having this special little thing between them that no one else gets to see.
Johnny wears Dally’s st christopher, but always hides it under his shirt.
Dallas always makes up a story about ‘some broad’ when anyone asks him why his necklace is missing, but he ends up lowkey describing either Johnny or Ponyboy each time (for example “nah she’s got this big doe eyes, like a sad puppy’ or ‘she loves reading. Crazy, man.’)
Dallas HATES reading, and doesn’t understand why his boyfriends love it, but he actually secretly likes when either of them read to him.
Dallas will lift books for them. One time Two-Bit caught him and now teases him for it.
They each have a little heart on one of their shoes with the other two’s initials on it. Poyboy wrote each of them, since he has the best handwriting.
Ponyboy gets to wear Dallas’ ring, but similar to Johnny, he wears it on a chain around his neck and hides it under his shirt.
They sometimes go to the lot together, all three of them, and at first Pony was afraid he’d be irritated by Dallas breaking the silence every two seconds, but he actually doesn’t mind it. Sure it’s not the same as him and Johnny sitting there together quietly, but he actually kind of likes it this way.
Dallas doesn’t understand why his boyfriends like the quiet so much, but he tries to respect it. He can’t help it though if he wants to crack a few jokes or mess with Pony’s hair or give Johnny a light shove every now and then. He’s pretty restless, but they haven’t reprimanded him or anything for being obnoxious yet.
Not only did Dallas reluctantly agree to join them and watch sunsets, but he actually secretly started liking them
One time Dallas caught himself watching a sunset alone and got really sad bc neither of his partners were there to see it. He thought the sunset was wasted on him bc his boyfriends would’ve liked it more than he does.
Dallas still drives and lives recklessly, but he’s a bit more careful now. He’ll catch a glimpse of the heart on his shoe or his ringless finger and remember he has something to live for now. Two somethings.
Pony and Dally hang out one-on-one the least out of the three of them. Sometimes Johnny tries to get them to bond, and they do, but they like it a lot better with him there too.
Pony and Dally really only bond one-on-one when talking about Johnny and having a cigarette.
Pony grows to actually like how unconventionally attractive Dallas is. He’s unique to draw.
Pony writes down all (if any) stories Dallas shares about his time in New York. Usually all he gets is small remarks and basically table-scraps worth of stories, but he’s always trying to urge more information. He thinks it’s fascinating. Like they’ll be talking about something and Dallas will go “oh yeah I remember military camp” and Johnny and Pony will just stare like 0-0
Dallas still flirts in public with girls, but never gets further than that usually. There have been a few times however, where he’s been unfaithful to Pony and Johnny, as to be expected. He’s slept with other people, kissed other people, etc.
Johnny is more upset about it than he lets on, and if Pony weren’t there, he would have just accepted it and moved on.
Pony was the one to push the “are we exclusive?” conversation, which led to Dallas getting frustrated and storming out
He wasn’t really mad at them, more mad at himself for not realizing that they wanted to be exclusive.
They broke up for a while, but eventually Johnny managed to pull them back together.
Johnny’s kind of the mediator in the relationship. He’s their glue.
Every time Dally fucks up or Pony gets frustrated, he’s there seeing both sides.
Sometimes he feels trapped in the middle
In the end though, they always come back together. Dallas never apologizes, as that wouldn’t be true to him to do, but he does try to change for the better, for them. Pony still sometimes thinks Dallas is scary, maybe a bit too real, but it’s in a different way now. Dallas is scary, but Pony is safe with him, Dallas would never intentionally hurt him. And Johnny loves both of them uniquely. They’re both so different but he loves them so much. Pony’s gentler, more thoughtful side, as well as Dallas’ rugged, rebellious side.

could u do smth where pony goes to his gf’s softball game and they loose and she is upset but pony comforts her?? love ur blog and i think id be rly cute bc i love pony and play softball bahaha
hii!! thank you so much, I had a blast writing this<33
order for anon: pony comforting the reader after losing a game
genre: fluff and a bit of hurt/comfort
warnings: None that I know of
Ponyboy didn't enjoy being at school any longer than he needed to. He hated the way Socs would stare at him, the band of girls who would start whispering to each other about him always put a pit of shame in his stomach. He just didn't understand them, and he hated that, it made him feel dumb, even weird at times.
All of that was worth it the second he saw your face beaming with determination, your eyes sparkling, and your hair braided. He sat beside you hours earlier while you did it, and watched your brows twitch in frustration when a few strands tangled at the very end. Pony liked to admire people but he loved to admire you.
"Strike two!"
The voice of the announcer rang out, crackling as the wind broke through the intercom. Pony's brow creased as he read the score board, the guest school had been in the lead for the past half hour. The atmosphere in the stands was intense, Pony was thankful in part. With everyone focused so intensely on the game, less eyes were on him.
"Out three!"
The crowd winced.
Pony spotted you, his face immediately relaxing when he scanned your grass stained uniform. That ambitious glint in your eyes brought an amused smirk to his face.
He sat back and watched the next batter up to swing, the final inning... He watched the tan girl clink her shoes, reel back her arms and swing.
Immediately you sprung into action, sprinting after the ball. He always worried about you, you had a tendency to bump into walls, skin your knees, and trip over air.
You went for it, leaping forward in hopes of catching the ball only for it to curve, barely grazing the tip of your glove before you were on the ground, scraping your arm against the prickly field. The only thing drowning out the stinging you felt in your body was the buzzing of the scoreboard.
-♡-♡-♡-
You sat on the edge of the couch in the Curtis house. Darry's already put band-aids on your knees, and put an antiseptic on your arm. Ever the mother, he made sure you had dinner and instructed you and Pony to share the couch.
"Y/n, you did just fine.. You were amazing," Pony sighed, rubbing your back. "Why beat yourself up over it?"
You sighed, scooting back into the aged cushion of the couch. "I just.. If I had caught the stupid ball, maybe we could've won."
He chuckled, not at all fitting for the situation. That was something you'd groen to like about him, he had a strange concept of social cues.
"No way, besides you all those other girls were off today," He scooted over, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. His body heat immediately seeping into your skin.
"You think so?" You quirked, laying your head on his shoulder.
"Yeah, Darry says you're the best player."
You smiled, a soft noise of appreciation buzzes past your lips when his fingers find your hair, starting to play with it.
"I'm his favorite?"
"Don't push it," he smiled, watching you start to doze off on him.
"Stop being so hard on yourself, you hear me?"
"Yes, Pony.."
"Good," he leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to your temple, "That's my girl."

An analysis of Darry and Ponyboy
I think my favorite change the musical makes from the book/movie is that Darry went to school but had to drop out when his parents died. It obviously creates this great parallel between him and Ponyboy, but I’d never really thought about it in-depth until now.
Yes, Darry’s situation makes him push Pony even harder when it comes to his school work. Yes, there is that looming sense of ‘my older brother had to sacrifice his opportunity for me so now it’s up to me to do what he was unable to do’ for Ponyboy. But what I think is really interesting is what comes next for both of them post-canon. Granted, I have not seen the musical so all of this is from what I’ve gotten from the songs and seen online.
It’s very easy to only think about Johnny’s interpretation of the poem and Stay Gold in terms of how it relates to Ponyboy. But how does it relate to Darry? Darry was dealt a terrible hand and is rightfully upset. That’s another great part of the musical that I would say wasn’t a huge part of the book/movie. Because we have his point of the view in Runs in the Family, the reprise, and Throwing in the Towel we get so much more of his struggles and how hard of a time he’s been having. We see him express his frustration in a way that’s more than just cracking down on Ponyboy. He, like Ponyboy, is upset with his situation and the world around him. But, he, like Ponyboy, post-canon will maybe start looking for the beauty in the fold and realizing that the good he has around him can outweigh the bad if he lets it. His story is not over. He can still make a life for himself even though he doesn’t finish school. It will just be a different way than he originally planned. I think we get an inkling of this in the book when, right before the rumble, Ponyboy says “I looked at Darry. He wasn’t going to be any hood when got old. He was going to get somewhere. Living the way we do would only make him more determined to get somewhere. That’s why he’s better than the rest of us, I thought. He’s going somewhere. And I was going to be like him. I wasn’t going to live in a lousy neighborhood all my life.”
!!! Christ that is a good passage.
On a similar note, just based on those last two sentences and some other stuff in canon it’s clear that Ponyboy starts to have a better understanding of why Darry is so hard on him, and maybe Darry eases up in some ways. But I can definitely see it still being somewhat of an issue further down the line. Like maybe when Darry is more optimistic about everything, Ponyboy starts to talk about how he’ll still be okay even if he doesn’t get good grades or go as far as everyone tells him he can, because Darry didn’t do that and he’s still making something of himself. But then Darry is there to tell him that even though that may be the case, that doesn’t mean Ponyboy shouldn’t try. He’s got to try until he makes it or until life makes him change his plans. Either way, he’s going to be okay.

Here’s a random idea I pulled from my ass for you!
So like the reader has that lovely seasonal depression that we’re all enjoying 🥰 And just head cannons of what the gang would do, and how they help them cheer up?
If that makes any sense whatsoever
Ur so real for not wanting to do ur own ideas 💀
The Outsiders x Reader ( Seasonal Depression Headcannons )
Authors Note - I love this idea so much, thank you for giving me something I'll actually write P.S - I understand seasonal depression is longer than a day, but most of these are how the gang would cheer you up in just one day, if that makes sense. Just a quick note.
Darry -
If we're being honest he probably has seasonal depression too but he's too busy to be sad (which I think is why he works so much). So whenever you're experiencing seasonal depression, he tries to help, but he isn't exactly Sodapop. He'd probably just hold you, talk to you, keep you company whenever he could. Probably makes you hot chocolate if we're being honest, yknow, try to make you feel less empty. Love him for that ♡
Sodapop -
He's so confused by your seasonal depression? Like, it's Christmas season, you should be happy as he is. But here you are. He'd get it though, he went through it but worse whenever his parents died. He couldn't stand to see you sad, so he'd definitely comfort you. He'd keep you company, take you on dates (probably winter dates, like ice skating), shower you with affection, anything he could. He'd lay on the bed with you, pull you against him, whispering sweet nothings into your ear. Him playing with your hair as he put on a movie, showering you with kisses until you could barely breathe. In one way or another, he'd make you smile.
Ponyboy -
Being honest, he has it too, he just ignores it. So whenever he sees you anxious, sad, whatever it is, he'd comfort you (in his own way). I think he'd lay down with you and read a book to you, or watch a movie with you, whichever. He wouldn't really confront it head-on, but he'd make you feel better. The moment the two of you got back home he'd lay down with you on the couch and just hold you. He'd try to do it everyday, just to be safe.
Johnny -
This sweet, innocent, perfect boy would do anything for you. So whenever seasonal depression comes around, he 100% comforts you. He's not a fan of these seasons, either. All the holidays mean more time with the family who hates him. He'd take you out to the lot with him, both of you lying beside each other and watching the stars. The two of you would just talk, eventually falling asleep together.
Dallas -
You expect the Dallas Winston to be your therapist? He doesn't have the slightest idea how to comfort you, let alone during seasonal depression. He'd try to take your mind off of it, taking you to parties or sneaking into the drive-in with you. Quick NSFW, he'd probably have have sex with you to cheer you up, too (Honestly most of the gang would). He'd probably help, just in his own way.
Two-Bit -
You're sad? This motherfucker is harassing you with jokes. He will not shut up until you've laughed at least 10 times. He'd stay with you, talk with you, making you laugh at any chance he gets. The two of you would go wherever you felt like going, just because he would do anything to cheer you up. Imagine the two of you going grocery shopping for junk food, you sitting in the cart and him pushing you down the aisles at top speed. You'd definitely be happier by the end of the day.
Steve -
He, like Sodapop, would be so confused. Like he'd literally ask you why, and when you were just like 'huh-uh', he decided to just cheer you up. He'd take you around take, sort of like a little date. Or he'd sit on the bed with you, the two of you eating chocolate cake until you felt like you were gonna throw up. He'd just be like he always is, his fun, cocky self.
♡ I love all of them so much, it's not even funny ♡

darry and soda seeing pony as the best of them and the one who can be more than they got to be so that's why darry's so hard on ponyboy and pushes him and why soda protects him so much but ponyboy losing his innocence after the rumble and the fire is what makes him recognize that because he's now an adult in the eyes of the book and can understand darry's decisions

read on ao3
tw- discussion of suicide/suicidal thoughts
Ponyboy didn’t mean to eavesdrop, honest. He just went back out into the living room to get the book he left on the couch, he didn’t know the windows were open. But when he leaned down and picked the book up, he heard Darry and Johnny talking.
“You don’t have to go back to that house,” Darry was saying. His voice carried on the breeze and drifted to Pony’s ears. He stilled. He knew Darry had been trying to get Johnny to move in with them for a while. So far all of his attempts had been fruitless.
“I know,” Johnny replied. Ponyboy crept closer to the window to hear better. From the angle, he could see Darry and Johnny sitting on the front steps. Their faces were lit by the moon and the flickering porch light. Darry was looking at Johnny with concern. Johnny’s gaze was firmly fixed on his torn up Converse. “But I’m gonna.”
“Why?”
The question sat in the night air for a moment before Johnny replied, “They said they’ll call the cops if I don’t come back every few days. I don’t wanna risk being moved from Tulsa.”
Darry sighed. It was a good argument. “But you…if you ever need anything-”
“I know,” Johnny cut him off with a smile. “Thanks.”
The two of them fell into silence again. Pony was just about to leave and go back to his room, but then Johnny said, “Sometimes I think I should just let them beat me to death.”
Pony’s heart dropped into his stomach. He’d heard Johnny say similar things before. He knew his friend had thoughts like that, but every time Johnny said something like that aloud, it hurt Pony’s heart.
Darry turned to face Johnny, “Don’t say that, kid. Don’t you ever say that.” Johnny just looked at the ground, ashamed. Pony saw Darry’s throat bob as he swallowed. “Do you feel like that a lot?” Johnny nodded.
Darry sighed. And then he said something that made the blood rush out of Pony’s face. “I do too.” Johnny’s eyes widened as he looked at Darry. Darry just kept looking out into the night. “Not so much anymore, but right after our parents died, it was hard. I didn’t know how to take care of myself, let alone Soda and Pony. There was so much pressure on me and I thought that I would be better off dead, just like them.”
Everything inside of Pony felt like it was aching. He never knew Darry felt like that? He thought Darry was an iron giant. He could count on one hand the number of times he saw Darry cry. To hear he was suicidal made Pony want to scream or cry or throw up.
“Did you try to kill yourself?” Johnny asked.
Pony’s skin prickled as he waited to hear Darry’s response.
“No. But I sure thought about it a lot.” Darry looked at Johnny. “You know what helped?” Johnny shook his head. “I realized what would happen if I did. Pony and Soda would be split up and the lot of you wouldn’t have a safe place to sleep. The second I realized that, I almost never thought about it again.” Darry squeezed Johnny’s shoulder, “Do you understand?”
Johnny shrugged, “I don’t know. I don’t really have anyone counting on me. Not like you.”
Darry chuckled, “Sure you do. You’re the only one Dally lets cut his hair. Ponyboy loves reading with you and you can always get him to get out of his head. You help us stay grounded, keep us from getting too hard. We all love you, Johnny Kid. Hell, you’re the glue of this gang. Without you, there is no us.”
“You really mean that?”
Darry put an arm around Johnny’s shoulders, “Hell yeah, I do.” Johnny leaned into the embrace and Pony smiled a little. Even if he didn’t realize it, Johnny was part of the family.
“Don’t stay out too long, savvy?” Darry said as he stood up.
“Sure.”
Darry ruffled his hair and headed back inside. Pony thought about running back to his room, pretending he was never there. But he couldn’t. He needed to hug his brother more than anything else in the entire world.
When Darry pushed open the screen door, Ponyboy stood up. Darry’s mouth opened to say his name, but before he could even get a syllable out, Ponyboy darted forward and hugged his brother tight around the middle.
Darry’s surprise was evident. It took him a moment to hug Pony back. “How much did you hear, kid?”
Ponyboy just shook his head, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I’m sorry I made it so hard on you.”
“Hey, none of that.” Darry pulled back and held Pony at arm’s length. He met his gaze. “It wasn’t your job to make it easy. And I would do it all again, I wouldn’t change a single thing. I hid how I was feeling, from you and Soda. I didn’t want you to have to worry about me on top of everything else.”
Pony swallowed thickly and tried not to cry, “I don’t want you to die.”
Darry just gave him a sad look and enveloped him back into his arms. “I’m not going anywhere. You’re stuck with me.”
“Promise?”
Pony felt Darry kiss the top of his head, “Promise.” He pressed himself so tight against his brother’s chest. He imagined that if he tried hard enough, he could make himself part of Darry, that he could reach into his heart and carve out all of the fear and sorrow and just leave love behind.
“I’m okay, colt.”
“You’ll tell us if you’re not?” Ponyboy already knew the answer was no, but he also knew that Darry would never say that out loud. But he really needed to hear the words, even if it was a lie.
“Yeah, sure I will, buddy.” Darry pulled back and took Pony’s face in his hands. “Go sit with Johnny for a bit, I’m sure he could use some company.”
“Okay.”
Darry squeezed the back of Pony’s neck, “Good night.”
Pony smiled to himself and slipped out the front door. Johnny was still sitting where Darry left him, smoking a cigarette. Pony plopped down beside him. Wordlessly, Johnny handed over the cigarette and Ponyboy took a long drag.
The two boys sat there for a long while, passing the cigarette back and forth. They didn’t say anything but they didn’t need to. Pony leaned over and rested his head on Johnny's shoulder.
“I couldn’t stand it if you weren’t here,” Pony said softly. “So don’t go, Johnny.”
Johnny leaned his head back against Pony’s. “It hurts so much sometimes, Pony. I don’t know if I can do it.”
“You gotta.” Pony took his hand and squeezed it tight. “You’re my best friend in the whole world, know that?”
“Yeah.” Johnny sighed. “I’ll try, I swear.”
For that moment it was good enough.

Struggling in silence
ON HOLD
{Series; prologue}
Ep. 1
Summary; You struggle heavily with mental health, but you don’t want to tell the gang, afraid of judgement. So you fake your happiness so they don’t know. Slowly they start figuring things out.
Warnings; Cussing, self harm, abuse, neglect, suicidal ideation, blood, gore, angst, mental illness, attempted suicide, sexual/nsfw themes, drugs, alcohol, violence.
Now playing; genexix
You’ve known the gang your whole life, since your parents were friends with their parents and you were only 15.
Your life has always been hard; your parents were abusive. Nobody knew though. Not even the gang. You hid all your bruises so well and masked your emotions. Nobody suspected a thing.
Not to mention your un treated mental issues. You knew there was something wrong with you, but you refused to tell anybody. They would just use it against you. Like everyone does.
Back to the abuse; your dad would physically hurt you, along with mentally and verbally abuse you. While your mom ignored you in a whole. She always avoided your pleading eyes for help, and would grimace every-time you got beat.
If she wanted to, she could save me.
You started to think your father forgot about her existence. He would cheat on her every night, and only a knowledged her when they were outside around people they knew. Or in church. How ironic.
You were very close with the gang. They were your true family. Although you held love in your heart for your abusive and neglective parents, you will always love the gang more than you loved your parents.
You were super close to two people in particular; you liked them a little more than a friend should. You didn’t view them as family, though.
Relationships w the gang
Johnny Cade. He had it way rough at home, and you secretly related to him, though you’d never tell him. He’d accidentally slip up and tell Ponyboy, who would tell Darry due to worry about you, then Darry would tell the gang and your life would be over. Nobody knew about your huge crush on Johnny. Though you wanted to tell him how you felt, you knew he didn’t like you back, so you loved him from a distance.
Dallas Winston. He’s also another huge heart throb you have. Nobody knew about that, either. You loved him so much. You him and johnny were so close, and you’d all go crazy if you lost each other. He always protects you, and you keep him out of as much trouble as you can in return.
Darry curtis. He’s like an older-brother figure to you. Well— the whole gang (expect for j and d) are like older brothers to you. He’s a lot more strict than the others, but only because he cares. You get where he’s coming from, but he can be harsh.
Sodapop Curtis. Another big brother. Though he’s goofy, and you feel like you can let loose a little more around him. He doesn’t judge very much. He’s protective of you, because he sees you like a little sister. He’s a little more protective of you, than he is of Ponyboy, because Ponyboy is a little stronger than you. (Mentally and physically)
Ponyboy Curtis. He’s like a younger brother, but you view him like the same age as yourself, and he appreciates that. You understand him more than anyone in the gang, and he always goes to you for support. You’re glad that he can rely on you. He is also another reason why you won’t tell anyone about your troubles. You’ll disappoint everyone that rely on you— including pony. You and him also watch movies together and trade books.
Two-bit matthews. He’s goofy, and jokes around with you a lot. You both push each other around for the fun of it, and he thinks it’s the funniest shit ever. He knows when to be serious with you, like if you get seriously hurt, or something traumatic happens. He checks up on you every once in a while, cause he suspects something is up with you. He always tries his best to make you laugh.
Steve Randle. You and Steve don’t really acknowledge each-other much, but you do converse about cares every once in a while. You both still really care about each other— despite not being as close. He loves you and he’ll protect you no matter what, and vice versa.
That’s what’s important— now let’s get on to the story.

How the gang would react to you having sh scars
tw for selfharm, scars, and suicide
Darry Curtis
He would notice your cuts/scars if you wore something that showed them, but he never really looks if you’re not
Darry’d be the type to not mention it til he can pull you to the side or have a private conversation
Really acts like a parent, i mean, he’s had to be one for awhile so the habit forms!
Also he’s really confused at first, he doesn’t know that type of stuff.
it is the 1960s or 80s (depending on book or movie) so its not something socially acceptable or known
Probably would try to get you to give over whatever you harm yourself with
He’d make the gang hang out with you more so you dont have time to do it
Also does checks after, probably more of the “Arm, show me,” way but he really does mean well
He never means to make you feel bad or guilty for selfharming, just doesnt understand yet and doesnt know how to handle it
Sodapop Curtis
He would make a scene, not even intentionally. He cannot be quite when he finds out something shocking for the life of him
Would probably hug you a lot, and i mean A LOT
Thinks he needs to give you more love cause you feel bad
Soda’d tell the gang, not in a “that weird insane person” way, but in the “How do i help them??” way
He’d try his damnedest to get the things you sh with, even if its stealing it
Sodapop just wants you to stop, and doesn’t understand that people just dont stop this type of thing
Of course, you get more and continue, it tears him apart. Eventually he has an actual talk to you about it
After trying and failing to get advice from Darry
He’s really the one breaking down, just ‘cause he’s so torn up over you harming yourself.
Eventually, after talking it out, he decides to just try and help you quit
Ponyboy Curtis
He would notice immediately, by just the slightest hint or glimpse of your self harm. I mean you’ve seen how he is in the book!
Pony wouldn’t talk about it though, he assumes it’s not something you would want to talk about
Boy does he worry though! Johnny gets an earful of his worries about every 5 minutes
Johnny is the one to urge him to ask you about it, he knows its somethin that needs addressed
Pony tries to make it as private and comfortable as possible, bringing it up when just you and him just so happen to be together
He asks if you self harm tenderly, and tries not go push or upset you
You’re defensive at first, obviously. Its nothing to be proud of in that day and age, you’d get thrown in an asylum
He comforts you the best he can, though he isnt great it at; basically just says “Its okay,” a lot
Ponyboy wants you to quit and he says as much, but it’s a process. A slow, slow process
Two-bit Matthews
At first he really just thinks you’ve been in a fight, or accidentally got hurt
Over time he notices it’s way to much, and constant, for it to just be an innocent reason.
He ain’t afraid to say much, and sometimes has bad social understandings with touchy subjects
So he would ask ‘bout it openly or just grab at wherever you happen to harm yourself, gives you a heart attack
Two’s oblivious though, to why you dont want to show him, to talk about it, or even acknowledge it
Then, after the fact or course, probably while he’s just layin’ in bed, it dawns on him that you could be doing this to yourself
He is absolutely worried sick, brotherly instincts kick in 100%; you can thank his sister for that
He wants to clean the wounds, comfort you, hug you, let you cry, do anything to help
Hes your friend, and hell be damned if he’s just gonna let that happen
Two won’t ever really sit you down like a parent, more like sit with you on the couch and very very gingerly bring it up
He doesnt want you to get apprehensive like last time
When he gets through to you though, he’d be perfectly fine letting you cry and talk all you need
If thats what you need of him, he’s gotcha!
Two-bit will check on you frequently, very very often.
Stopping by? check in. Goin to the movies? check in. You just woke up? check in. You’re goin to bed? check in!
Its surprisingly not so annoying, more of a “Hey kid, how you doing? Been good? No problems?”
Two’ll still worry to death even after you’ve quit, he always will unless he’s blackout drunk or having wont of his dim-witted moments
Steve Randle
Doesn’t get it, at all, but he finds it strange how your scars look purposeful.
He isn’t dumb though, he connects it after a few minutes. Then hes like “O h. . .”
Poor Steve, a tin can expresses it’s emotions better than him
He’s worried, Sad, and honestly frustrated that you’d do that to yourself. The anger is mostly just him being mad about not understanding his feelings though
He confronts you bluntly, not caring who’s there to hear it. He sees it as somethin’ that can’t be ignored or put off at all
“What’re those on yer arms? Huh? Tell me.”
It can either turn into an argument or you getting embarrassed and upset, either way he’s still pushing you
Soda or one of the other guys would help try and defuse the situation, especially if you’re upset or Steve’s yelling.
They’d probably get you all somewhere private, and make Steve shut up so you can talk
He still doesnt understand why, which still annoys him
Steve does see that being confrontational about it isnt going to work, so he asks less demandingly
“I jus’ wanna know why,” He’d say something like that
After you explain it the best you can he’d feel awful for you, genuine pain for you; like the type of sad that physically pains you
He doesn’t express though, if anything he gives you eyes that try to somehow express everything hes thinking
He can’t communicate at all, he never has. So he’ll take your self harm mechanisms away blatantly, he doesnt care if you fight
He just wants to keep you safe, and doesnt know how else to express it
Eventually, after counseling from Soda he’d write you a letter. Soda thought it’d be a good way to actually say what he thought instead of argue
It would say how he only wants you to be happy, to not harm yourself, and somehow he feels like he’s failed you in some way. He apologizes, which isnt any small feat for this little emotion suppressing guy
Johnny Cade
He’s known really, picked up on the behaviors and hints
You steal razors when you’ve already got them to shave with, steal lighters, go without food, anything you do harm with
He isn’t a stranger to selfharm, in the movie and book hes talked about suicide so it isn’t a stretch.
Even if he doesn’t physically harm himself, he has tendencies that show a clear lack of care if he gets hurt, whether it be purposefully sleeping in the lot where he knows he might get jumped, etc
He would tell you about himself first, to make sure you know you arent being judged
You dont need to quit immediately, as long as you try
He’d definitely give you little gifts (stolen by Dallas) for your milestones in quitting
He’d say he’s proud of you, and he genuinely is
Dallas Winston
Dallas doesn’t pay attention to much besides breaking laws, fighting, chicks, and picking up on hostile situations
or making hostile situations
He wouldn’t notice unless it’s really in his face, for instance:
You’re at Buck’s crashing after a party, and while you’re passed out he would notice your wounds if they were just out in the open
This guy knows purposely done injuries from accidental ones, he’s been around this stuff too long not too
At first he thinks someones doing this to you, holding you down and just cutting, burning, etc etc to you
Then he remembers his childhood, the things some guys would do to themselves after being pushed so far
He doesn’t want you to be like that, even if its just that he doesn’t want to see it again
He’d wake you up, drag you to somewhere private, and make you talk
You dont get to avoid this. He’s serious and those eyes are pinning you right to where you are
Dallas forces you to explain, then to cough up your devices for it, and then threatens “If you keep doing trash like this, I’ll kill you.”
Of course, though you know better, you continue. Self destructive habits take hold
Dally keeps a close eye on you now, not wanting to see you end up dead or locked up in a hospital somewhere
He catches you, with his habit of never knocking and not caring to. You’re sitting there holding a brand new thing to hurt yourself with
He’s pissed, takes it from you, and though angry bandages you up. All the while throwing curses and threats
Then he tells the gang, ‘cause he cant baby sit you all the time
eventually you’re forced to stop, though the urges dont exactly disappear, but they get better. The gang supports you, and you understand that Dally is really just ranting and raving because he cares
Bob Sheldon
“ew gross weirdo”
the end!!

Darry Dating a Quiet & shy s/o
Sorry if this is bad, it only my second time writing hcs!
-darry would probably tell them all your shy and a little quiet
-'look guys, she's not super social ok? So just go easy on her'
-Pony, Johnny, and Soda would be super chill about you, and not push you to talk.
-if they ask a question and you stutter or shrug they'd be like 'oh it's ok y/n don't worry about it!'
-Dally, Steve, and Two-bit would be very loud and stuff.
-if too much noise scares you: here how the above 3 would react to you flinching or covering ur ears
-two: 'oh I'm sorry hun...a-are we being too loud?'
-steve: 'haha she's covering her ears' Darry smacks his arm 'sorry y/n we'll quiet down'
-dally 'what the fuck are you doing bro'💀
-soda Johnny and pony would be super kind and if you flinched Johnny would get a little scared but that's it
-Darry would answer simple things for you like your name, how many siblings you have, how old you are, ect
-if you were at any point too overwhelmed with the noise, questions, and conversations, Darry would take you to his room
-'its ok honey. I know you're a little quiet and stuff, they'll understand ok?' 'i know but I just feel rude for almost ditching them Darrel'
-to feel comfortable and stuff about all the noise, Darry would hold you hand and squeeze it
-he would wrap an arm around your shoulders or
-wrap his hand around your waist
-dally would be a little pushy bc
-1 he's kind of an ass
-and 2 he needs to hear it from you and not Darry
-'oh yea she has-' 'darrel I didn't fucking ask you'
-darry would probably lecture Dal and hit his arm and chest when he was pushy or rude
-you would try to hold conversations, and Soda made that really easy bc he tries to understand everything
-and I feel like he's just a really good listener
-you would probably click with Johnny bc you both are rather quiet
-if you like movies and books (ik as an introvert I do) Ponyboy and you would get along
-two-bit would make you laugh and get you comfortable around everyone with jokes
-steve, after getting a talking to, would be super kind, and ask you about interests
-if you like cars, he would literally love you
-dally would offer you a cigarette....and that's probably one of your few interactions
-'you want a cancer stick y/n' 'o-oh I'm ok thank you Dallas' 'just call me dally ok?'
-if you have a burning hate for socs, you and dally could be close over that
-two-bit and you might also SHARE jokes instead of him just telling them
-as you get comfy, Darry would slowly back away, and just let you do your thing
-he would answer less and less questions as the night goes on
-'you know y/n...I proud of you. For really talking and stuff. I love you, you know that? I think you'll get along with everyone just fine'
-he would say as he grabs water from the kitchen, you following
-he would hug and kiss you too let you know it's all ok
-'ooohhh you guys kissed!'
-soda would tease
-it would really only be cheek kisses though.
-after a little bit of Darry being further from you, he would walk back over an cuddle you
-'im really proud'
-he would say kissing your head
-johnny and you might bond over disliking socs and fights (if that's your opinion on that!)
-'yea...a few weeks ago fucking BOB gave this scar, I hate him' 'omg me too! He sucks, I hate his guts. The scar makes you look tuff though'
-darry would be super happy for you, and be smiling a lot
-'why are you so smiley baby?' 'nothing...just happy you're talking. You know, you find YOUR people and then you just start talking and rambling and stuff. It makes me happy'
I think that's it...sorry y'all. I might update it tho!

Know your Place
An awkward smut Darrel Curtis and reader
I laid sprawled out in my usually shared bed, alone. My boyfriend and I had gotten into a fight and like all the other fights the stubborn oof insisted on sleeping on the lumpy couch in the living room. We have been together since middle school. When his parents died we went on a break so he could focus on his brothers but after some time I convinced him to let me move in and let me help him take care of them and him too.
This was an argument on how to handled his baby bothers priorities. I thought it was alright for him to have his head in the clouds a little, after all he’s only fourteen. But Darry felt like he needed to get serious and I felt like Darry was forgetting that Pony is an individual and is a smart kid who can handle going at life his own way. I also might have mentioned that he was being too hard and a bit of a stick in the mud. He then said that I was coddling Ponyboy and needed to learn my place, which not only set me off but Ponyboy who had been ease dropping on the conversation… probably more because the walls are thin and you don’t have much of a choice when there’s a screaming match in the house than he wanted to. Pony had banged on the wall calling Darry an Asshole which upset Darry more and he walked out of the house to cool off.
While he was gone I went to the kitchen to make his favorite dinner as a peace offering. Ponyboy of course said he didn’t deserve it because of how he spoke to me and Soda told Ponyboy that he agreed Darry might have crossed a line but love was something that was hard to explain.
Anyway when he came back he refused to speak to me and honestly that hurt but it wasn’t really out of the usual. We ate in silence but when it came to bedtime I really thought this time he would come to bed. He has never told me to know my place before and I thought surely asking him to come to bed would get him to oblige as surely this wasn’t a huge fight and he only walked out because he was embarrassed about what he had said but here I am laying alone. I tossed and turned but I couldn’t fall asleep so I decided that I was going to tip toe into the living room and wake up Darrel and apologize and beg him to just come to bed. But when I got out there I found him sitting on the couch, head in his hands and tears in his eyes. “Baby?” I questioned.
His head snapped up, “Doll, sweetheart… what are you doing up?”
I stepped up to stand between his legs and placed my hands on his shoulders, “I couldn’t sleep but you’re crying what’s wrong?”
He leaned forward to rest his head on my belly, and hold me in his arms, “I love you so much baby! I’m so sorry I said such an awful thing. You were just trying to help…”
I ran my hands over his head, “So why didn’t you come to bed when I asked hmmm?”
“Because… I don’t deserve you.”
“I could say the same thing. Now will you please come to bed? I’m sorry we fought.” I cooed kissing the top of his head.
“Are you sure? I understand if you want space.”
“I don’t want space, I just want you next to me bone head!”
He smiled and followed me to the bedroom. Once in the room with the door closed, I pushed him up against the door and purred, “Now Darrel, I think you’ve forgotten your place, I think I need to punish you.” Darry smirked cheekily, he reached for me pulling me into a hungry kiss. But today I was going to be in charge so I playfully pushed him away, “Oh no Darrel, I’m running the show. On the bed now!”
He smirks and begins his way over to our bed, stripping as he did. He turned around and plopped down onto the bed, putting himself on full display. I placed myself between his thighs and my hands on his broad chest. He groaned and slid his hands up my own thighs and into the material of my sleep shirt aka his shirt, pulling it off me, revealing my body to him. He groaned as he let his hands worship my body. His touch was sensual as he peppered kisses over my bare skin.
“Lay down on the bed doll, I want to taste you please. I know I have been a bad boy but I’m quite hungry. May I please have a taste?” He whispered softly as he kissed my right breast.
I smiled and kissed him before crawling onto the bed. He kissed my legs until he hovered above me looking down at me lovingly before planting a kiss on my lips and then sinking down between my legs. He kissed my inner thigh before he kissed my lower lips. Darry sucked and licked at my pussy eagerly. My body convulsed instinctively and his strong hands came up to hold my hips down. The assault of his tongue on my pussy had me reaching down to lace my fingers into his hair and tugged as I cummed all over his tongue.
Darrel sat up with a proud smile on his face, he wipes my juices on his face off with the back of his hand. “Damn baby, you taste better every time. Have I redeemed myself?” I bit my lip and nodded vigorously. He climbed up my body, kissing my skin as he went. I could feel his hard cock brushing against my thighs as he hovered over me. “Would you be willing to allow me to take control?” After another nod he ordered, “Open your legs baby.”
I obediently open my legs for him to settle in between. He kisses me all over my face and down my neck causing me to giggle. He pulled up and gazed down at me with such affection, “You know I love you right?”
I nodded, “of course I do love.” I take his face into my hands and pulled him down for a delicate kiss, “I know you didn’t mean it but it still hurt.”
He lowered himself so his weight was on me as he cuddled me. “I’m sorry really… but it’s like a tug of war when it comes to Pony. He gets in trouble and he goes running to you because he knows you’ll baby him.”
I rolled my eyes, “or you’re too hard on him. But that’s besides the point. We need to be on the same page next time you feel he has done something that needs to be resolved aka he’s in trouble for something, we need to be on the same page so let’s talk first alright and then we can decide what to do next.”
“He’s my kid brother, he’s my responsibility.” He mumbled into my bosom.
“I’m here to help you carry that responsibility and to make it easier for you. But we have to work together. I love you and your family. I’m here till the very end. We can do anything together. Now, are you going to let me make you feel good?”
He groaned as he positioned himself at my entrance. Darry pressed sweet kisses on my lips as he slowly entered me. He groaned and dropped his head into the crook of my neck as he waited for me to adjust to his size. I breathed deeply as I stroked his hair trying to calm myself. “You feel so good baby girl, how are you feeling?”
“Full… a little stretched but I think I’ll be okay. You can move… just nothing rough today we haven’t done this in a while.” He nodded in agreement before beginning to pump in and out of me.
Darry could be a very dominant lover but he could also be sweet or even submissive if I asked him to be. Darrel’s just the kind of guy who will put his girls wants and needs before his own and still be completely happy and satisfied.
Darry gentle movement inside of me had me feeling whole and completely satisfied, not even orgasmed yet. He bit my collar bone as he tried to keep himself from cumin before I did myself. “Please doll I need you to cum for me, I can’t hold out much longer.”
I reached down and began to rub circles on my sensitive bud until I was a moaning mess, leading him to follow and came inside of me. He collapsed on top of me and focused on his breathing. I lazily ran my hands up and down his back as I too, tried to relax. Darry snuggled into me contently and I kissed his head, “I love you Darrel.”
“I love you too sweetheart.”
