Monstrous Heart Part 4 fun previews because I'm really sorry how delayed this TF Mercy story has been

hhhhhhh I really want to write this story but the days keep flying by faster than I can count them! I immigrated to the US as a trans person which is as fun as you expect, I'm recovering from surgery, job hunting, and spending hours and hours at the local animal shelter with the kitty cats. I still do Mercy almost every day but that includes editing, scene planning, art direction, drawing, video editing... so time to write is hard to get. Oh, also I like to study languages!

Monstrous Heart is a storyline of TF Mercy focused on the Predacons living in Iacon with the Autobots post-war. Predaking has not eaten Starscream on this storyline so he is sane. This is THE Vehicon mafia story people have been waiting for. It also introduces a 5th Predacon and a new supernatural creature.

Part 4 is all about the Predacons joining the police and being trained. Here are current rough drafts of unpublished work:

4-5: Prowl teaches the Predacons his interpretation of optic colours.

“You all want more training?” Prowl asked. “Let’s practice identifying these ‘Cons. Count the heavy class ones: the tanks and other armoured vehicles.”

The Predacons swept their eyes over the market.

“Twenty-one?” Ripclaw said.

“Just about. The majority though, right? Count the four-wheelers my size.”

“Two,” Skylynx replied.

“Seekers?”

“Six,” Predaking rumbled.

“Yep. Most Decepticons are brutes, Seekers, and beasts, plus a scattering of sneaky Minicons and hot-headed four-wheelers. Now look at their optics. What’s the most common colour you see?”

“Red,” Darksteel answered.

Prowl nodded slowly. “Red indicates a violent nature. Yellow is the colour of bots who shouldn’t be messed with, good or bad.”

“Hey that’s us!” Darksteel grinned. “And you, haha.”

Prowl smirked.

Ripclaw said, “What colour would you consider my optics?”

“Primarily yellow,” Prowl replied. “You’re fine.”

Ripclaw asked, “Ah, alright. How about the meaning of other optic colours?”

“Blue indicates a spark aligned with the purity of Primus. I find I can trust most bots with blue optics. Green, orange, and pink aren’t always safe colours, just be on guard with those. White—some think it’s pure like Primus but I think the sociopathic have that colour. Purple is a big no—very cruel and evil, they are. It’s sign of closeness to Unicron’s spark.”

“But why would optic colour determine one’s nature?” Predaking asked.

“Primus’ way of allowing us to analyze each other,” Prowl said. 

4-4: The Predacons who are learning Cybertronian Sign Language meet Blastwave (RID2015 character, a cop here in Mercy) who is a signer. The structure of CSL is inspired by ASL (but not the same). The experience is based on my own as a student of ASL. The pace the Predacons learn at and their struggles are reflective of my own.

[C-S-L, why you have interest?] Blastwave questioned.

Predaking’s hands felt slow and awkward in comparison to Blastwave’s flowing fingers. [With C-S-L, we can converse in beast form.]

Blastwave nodded. [Excellent. C-S-L very (?) for (?).]

[Sorry, I not understand], Ripclaw signed with her brows furrowed. [C-S-L very…?]

Blastwave signed it again.

“Useful for everyone,” Ironhide translated.

The red-eyed Autobot gestured dismissively at Ironhide with the sign [stop] woven in.

“Ok, no translating,” Ironhide said.

[I (?)], Blastwave continued. [Means I cannot speak. (?) means M-U-T-E.]

The Predacons nodded with interest, their eyes locked onto his hands. It took Predaking’s entire concentration to make out the letters Blastwave had spelled.

Skylynx pointed at his own throat. [Here hurt?]

[No], Blastwave answered. He tapped his head then went on, spelling out any sign the Predacons appeared confused by. [Problem in here. (?) B-I-O-L-O-G–I-C-A-L problem with my processor. (?) (?) S-I-N-C-E  F-O-R-G-I-N-G. I can make (?) S-O-U-N-D but not words.]

The dark officer reviewed the new words for them. Ironhide listened in as an authoritative voice came through his comm link: “Are you prepared to accept the first twenty Decepticons?”

“Aye, we’re all in position” Ironhide replied.

4-5: Some training with a bit of humour between Prowl and the Predacons.

“Ha!” Darksteel laughed. 

Prowl warned, “Oh if you’re laughing, I’m just going to throw you out there.” 

“Do I get a nickname too?” Darksteel asked him. “What are you going to call me out there?”

“You don’t even want to know what I want to call you.”

Darksteel transformed and flicked Prowl with his claws. After he stumbled, Prowl scowled and slapped foam on Darksteel’s claws and beak.

“You have a Minicon thief to catch with reasonable force!”

4-6: Teasing Bluestreak x Prowl where Prowl is very discreet about their closeness

“Oh you. Well, I better get back to work!” Bluestreak held Prowl’s hands. Prowl withdrew them and glanced around. Bluestreak patted Prowl’s face and exclaimed, “It’s okay! No enemies here!”

“Cameras, Bluestreak.”

“Not pointed at us!”

Bluestreak transformed and zoomed off. Prowl sighed.

being trans in the present i understand may seem a lot more safe for people in some areas and circumstances so it feels like you can just slap new pronouns on a character from the 80s and leave it at that but a lot of people just don't look at our fucking history when writing queer characters for the time period they're writing. homophobia is often mentioned when people are writing keeperschamp fics which is amazing but people rarely extend that same courtesy to trans hcs and it drives me nuts!!! this includes hcs where rand is a trans guy too because??? do you think his god loving southern parents would be calling him timothy??? do you think they'd just be chill with him Being A Guy if he was a girl before??? do you know how trans men have been treated in the past and are still treated?? do you know about the forced marriages and pregnancies to force detransition etc etc???? god do you know how trans women have been treated??? do you know about "men in dresses" being rounded up and made to expose their genitals so people Know they're trans and then all of them being arrested en masse??? do you Know our fucking history????

BUT if he had to die, i wanted his death to have meaning. he should have died after managing to save some players, destroying the games and realizing that he achieved his goals. he could rest now. then he would discover that the games still exist in other countries when he visited gayeong. it was simple, it delivered a message without making a baby the center of the story and it kept the ending bittersweet, while making a point that capitalism does still win but the ppl can defeat it like gihun did.

also, u missed nothing abt gihun's death not impacting the games. if junho hadn't made a phone call to the coast guard, then they wouldn't have arrived and inho wouldn't have sounded the alarm to evacuate the island and destroy the evidence. like i'm not even sure there is any evidence for the coast guard to collect after that explosion. that's why i dont understand why hdh said the korean games end - everyone involved in them is still alive, aside from the masked officer. they can easily relocate and start over.

Need to talk this here because no way i am the only person who think like this, but:

I HATE fans of the 2001 anime when they decide to talk about Seras. For me it's a kind of redflag when I see these guys want to say that the first Seras is better than the Ultimate one because she's more "serious, nihilistic (? wtf are u talking), intelligent" and reduce the 2006 one as a "whiny girl with big breasts who is disposable". I feel disgust, hate and want to murder anyone who says that, I've already written about Redpills co-opting Alucard as a "symbol of macho-man" (even though his character goes against EVERYTHING of that), these people are usally 5 options:

-Only consumed the 2001 and nothing else

-Only saw edits/scenes on the internet, thought it was cool to put Alucard's icon and made a larp about being a Hellsing fan

-Watched the 2 animes and read the manga, but only to do mediocre power scaling because when you actually ask about the story THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER ANYTHING, NOT EVEN THE BASICS OF THE BASICS OF HELLSING THAT YOU HAVE TO KNOW...

-Only watched the Abridged because it's based on the argument of "it's funnier and better than the original!!!" (lmao yes, a parody that has a humor that is the juice of 2010 and that only a few scenes save it - and even with those that are saved, they became EXTREMELY saturated by fans to the point that it's annoying when you go into a cosplayer's comment or Hellsing fanart and only have Abridged jokes)

But back to Seras, I cried watching Ultimate again after years and she is one of my favorite characters. I love both versions of her character (Gonzo's or Madhouse's), but the 2006 one has my heart because I identified with her a lot at certain moments. Seras was someone who only suffered in her life but continued to be strong and the sweetheart that she is. People think that someone who is not "serious, without emotions and feelings" is not someone strong and worthy of respect. Guys, the 2006 Seras adapts the Seras from the manga. In Ultimate and in the manga she constantly questions about the afterlife (becoming a vampire, since she is dead) and at first she couldn't dissociate herself from the "human" because it was something so sudden, she got a fucking shot in the chest at a time when she was almost going to be r**ed and killed, she was taken to Hellsing (without knowing anyone) and still has to deal with more deaths in front of her (whether caused by her or not). Do you really think she's mentally stable?

IMO, I think those scenes with Alucard where he tells Seras to forget that she was human are very important, because if you look at it from a post-humanist perspective, it makes a lot of sense, because it brings up the debate about "humanity" not being something good outside of common sense but rather as a colonialist and violent concept, which arises with the rhetoric of civilizing discourse against native peoples (as a Spanish-Brazilian, it's extremely sad to see the effects of colonialism, especially against indigenous peoples) . We notice this even more in the current context when we see how society deals with trans people, disabled people, racialized people, women and any social minority that does not follow the correct standard of "being human", all in defense of a human security system (which is just racism, patriarchy and all the ways to maintain the structures of violence that kill us every day). Alucard is disappointed when Seras doesn't drink the blood precisely because he wants her to be strong and finally independent, that she came out of that suffering as a human and can now have a new life (I don't like this reading of saying that Alucard was "enslaving her").

and that's why I like Seras from 2006, especially in the scene where she feeds on Pip to defeat Zorin, you see a new Seras indeed. You see our cute and charismatic blonde vamp finally accepting being more than human, accepting the change and wanting to protect those she loves in that chaos in London. Seras from the OVA has development, that's why I hate the guys who only like Seras from 2001 saying that she had "no development at all and only exists for the sake of existing".

It's one thing if you like the anime version of Gonzo better and that's fine, I understand and respect it (i love this version of her too), but saying that Seras from the OVA is a horrible, useless and undeveloped character really upsets me.

•i already feel like the shepards mom is pretty misogynistic and when she found out she was having girl twins she wasnt the happiest of campers at all. so when it comes to being a mamas girl, curlys not as close as he wouldve wanted to be. unlike cis curly, trans curly was just fighting a losing battle from day ONE, but trans curly still has that desperation for wanting to be seen BY his mom, thats a constant amongst all curly versions i fear

•ftm would b one hell of a change for him, its like a whole 180 and it wouldnt go unnoticed by his mom!! curly was under the impression that maybe his mom would like him better if he acted like a guy!! his mom valuing boys is what pushed curly to transition, hes tried acting like the perfect daughter being REALLY feminine but NEITHER of them was buying it, so he thought “what if i tried being like a son!!” doesnt have to be a GREAT son, just one regardless, thats what his mom always wanted after all

ps i feel like u could also twist this so curly finds out that hes a boy BC he decided maybe acting like a boy would get his mom to like him, it changed from him wanting to please his mom to him actually liking how it felt to be one and starting to do it for himself (spoiler alert, his mom wasnt the biggest of fan either way)

•angela knows what curlys doing, hes told her the plan and how he felt bc theyre very close and she doesnt exactly gaf that hes doing it, shes just worried hes gonna get hurt. at the end of the day ik angela was happy she got all of curlys girl clothes. nobody else knows that curlys doing so they keep buying him girl clothes that he hands off to angela, while tim buys curly his boy clothes from thrift shops, if anyone asks they just use the excuse that theyre broke and curly doesnt care what he wears and cant afford to be picky anyways

•when they move to america, curlys able to take more control of his identity than most. when it comes to government documents obviously its harder to lie but sometimes ppl just dont double check what curly or tim put in the paper so he just says he was born a boy. reason why he goes by curly is bc its a nickname to hide his “girl name”, curly is a pretty unisex nickname i think, its a way of tricking ppl so they say anything BUT his deadname and so he doesnt get targeted for being trans by using his new name (which only a feewwww ppl know). curlys new name is the name curlys mom was gonna give to tim, she had a list of names written down in her diary when she was pregnant w tim and curly found it

•curly would hateeeee getting artested for the additional reason that he would be going to a girls reformatory if he gets locked up, thats a one way ticket to dysphoria city AND getting outed/harassed he would love to avoid that at all cost. as a result trans curly tries being more slick when he breaks the law so he doesnt get locked up. if he was just going to a boys reformatory, he wouldnt care about getting locked up, however they have government documents that say curlys a girl, not much curly can do about that

ohhhh nimdok, where to start with you….

i have been dreading doing him because he pisses me off so bad but i actually had some decent fun with him :D. designing him and branching out farther away from his canon self was nice, but im not touching his backstory or personality really, that stays about the same for me in my head.

speaking of whichhh! like benny, i understand how the game makers had a short amount of time to fit an entire character arc of an old man undoing his deeply internalized racism/xenophobia/ableism in a singular short scenario, but unlike benny i actually somehow like his better?? nimdok had a lot more to get over (well not saying being a dickhead murderer isn’t a lot but 😭) and i enjoyed seeing him actually help out the people he would’ve previously turned in. it still feels a little hollow/unrealistic because again, he’s been like this his whole life, but considering how much AM takes him away from the group to (most likely) psychologically torture him for his actions he’s probably had a bit of a revelation.

doing his scenario was unfortunately funny at times because of the strange way we had to go about redeeming him with the golem guy😭giving him a smooch caught me off guard but ykw? i’ll take it for being able to kill mengele like immediately afterward. also speaking of whichhhh…

i would go into more detail about nimdok and mengeles relationship to give it some depth because god i love me some queers, but that is??? a real fucking guy???? a real life monster???? im less than comfortable picturing the fucker in my mind, much less giving him depth with a character who i also don’t like. like why ship ur essentially OC with a REAL LIFE N/AZI??? just another one of the reasons harlan elision creeps me out.
