.-
When Remus was young— surrounded by the light breeze of the Welsh coast and the harmony of birds chirping in the distance— he would follow his mother to their small garden behind their cottage at the cusp of twilight as his father cooked their supper, and he’d watch as she laid flat all sorts of newspapers written in French and Arabic and English, watch as she brought her red pen against the ink and marked the articles with underlines and shorthand he wouldn’t understand for years still.
He asked her once, when he was barely eight years old, why she bothered to keep up with so many different publications, why she read the same story penned by countless perspectives when all the facts stayed the same at the end of the day. And he remembers how she had let out a quick, shrill of a laugh, tossing back her golden head while sucking in a puff from the bubbling hookah she had set up besides her— a habit she acquired from her Algerian, refugee parents, and one that became synonymous to those late nights in Remus’s eyes.
“Facts can be wielded to someone’s personal vendettas, Remus John,” she had crooned in that adoring way of hers whenever she spoke to him— honey eyes that were the same color and shape to Remus’s own flashing alight and their matching smiles going crooked in her stunningly beautiful face.
“Oh.” Remus had replied, still confused as all get out but was perfectly fine with just holding his small vigil, watching her beneath moonlight and the soft glow of their outdoors lamps, as he listened to the shuffling of papers while she commenced this odd quirk.
It’s a decade and a half later— as his editor for the Phoenix, a small, but bustling online editorial that plans on dethroning the likes of Politico and Vox in only a matter of years, scans his latest findings on the corrupt boosters linked to MP Avery from Leeds— when Remus thinks he suddenly understands what his mother, with her keen eyes and pixelated air, had meant by facts in how they can be colored differently simply by the words surrounding them. And he wonders if one day soon, one of his bylines will join her little stack of stories, if she’ll be proud of him even if she says as much even now, when he’s a lost twenty-something stumbling through life in the capitol and barely making it as is, between his actual job and the gig he has at the coffee shop nearest his dingy flat he shares with three other blokes.
“Mmm, this is good, Lupin,” Dorcas declares after what feels like an eon, dropping her long, dark legs from where they were lounging leisurely on her desk and scuffs out her cigarette in a pretty, glass ashtray. “Send it over to Flores to look into deeper, maybe it’ll corroborate the info she’s already gotten from her sources.”
Remus feels himself bristle, hopes that it doesn’t show, that his face stays passive as he contends, “I think I should at least help her write the expose, I’m the one who got this bombshell.”
“That’s not how it works, sweets,” Dorcas toots, tossing back her dark head of curls as she rises, perching on the corner of her desk delicately and looking down, straight into his gaze. “I know it’s frustrating, but you’re fresh blood. barely six months here, but Alice has been with us for years. This is her baby, and we’re just here to nurture it.”
“So I’ll have to wait another ten months, at least, to get the same treatment?” He argues in an admittedly petulant way, making Dorcas laugh endearingly, and Remus is suddenly, searingly reminded of his age, and how he’s the youngest staffer that this London based news outlet has on hand.
“C’mon, love, it won’t be that long for someone as sharp as you, just be patient, and don’t try to pull a Zoe Barnes on us, yeah? You’re far too pretty to clean up on the rails of the tube.” Dorcas tousles a hand into his dark tawny curls, and Remus holds back the roll to his eyes that he feels willing up inside of him as he stands fully.
“Thanks Cas.”
She smiles beatifically, and throws him a wink. “You’re joining Emmy for the report tomorrow on those United footballers and their fundraiser for the hospital, yeah?”
“Bright and early,” Remus replies, still feels a bit miffed that he was chosen to write up the charity function, considering he doesn’t know a lick about football and doesn’t really get on with anyone who does. But Caradoc— their typical sports reporter— is out sick with the flew, so it’s on him. “I’ll have it on your desk early enough so it’ll be published by tea time.”
“Good man,” Dorcas says in thanks, picking up her crowing cellphone before waving him off.
Remus isn’t all that surprised when he strides out of the office only to find Benjy Fenwick sitting against the opposite wall, knees pressed to his chest and quickly scrambling up when he catches sight of Remus. Sometimes it’s impossible to believe that the bespectacled man in front of him is one of the top editors for the Phoenix, that he’s a regular corespondent for places like the BBC or CNN— that his rebukes against the piss poor inquiries waged during PMQs have become more anticipated than the sessions themselves. Remus tends to forget all of that when he sees him like this, messy haired and wearing a graphic T-shirt with some marvel superhero embossed on the front. “Wotcher Remus.”
“Hiya Remus says, smiling softly and rocking back on his heels. “You wanted to talk to the sergeant then?”
“Huh? Oh, no, no. I didn’t want to talk to Dorcas, I just— Erm, I know you were showing her that stuff you got from that intern, Pettigrew, and i know you were chafed about not getting any opportunity here so—“ He trails off, scratching the back of his head and studying a point over Remus’s shoulder, and it’s all too endearing, and Remus is so beyond thankful he’s made such a good friend here.
“No cigar,” he says in answer to the unspoken question, shrugging noncommittally even if he feels like shit over it.
Benjy nods, face contrite in a way that tells Remus he never thought it would’ve went otherwise. “I’m sorry, that’s bollocks.”
“’S whatever,” Remus shrugs off the apology, begins walking down the hall and straightening his report to hand over to Alice.
“Ah,, erm. We can get a drink, yeah? In commiseration,” Benjy offers, and Remus stilts only for a beat before continuing the twisting trail to where Alice is set up with the more senior members on staff. And he feels only sorta bad about wanting to refuse. He knows that if he says yes, it’ll mean something different to Benjy than it does him, that he’ll probably take it as Remus finally giving into his pestering and deciding to actually go out with him, even if he’s refuted the other four times he’s asked as much. Remus’s simply just too busy trying to get a footing in this city, and trying to figure out where he’s suppose to go from here, and what he’s suppose to do. And yes, Benjy is cute— a complete Seth Cohen archetype. And he’s sweet and smart and funny enough. But Remus is really not in the mood for doing the whole flowers and wine and candle lit dinners shtick, had gotten enough of that while still with his university boyfriend. And yeah, he’s only just turned 24, but he already feels too old and too jaded for that sort of puppy love— even if Benjy’s got a good decade and some change on him.
Probably sensing his hesitation, Benjy is quick to rectify the offer. “I’ll ask Mary, and Fabian too, and a few others. We can make a night of it, just some drinks on a Friday after work.”
Stalling by the last turn to Alice’s desk, Remus looks at him from over his shoulder, and sort of hates himself for being such a soft hearted fuck sometimes. “Yeah Benj, sounds nice. Just let me know on the group chat, yeah?”
Benjy grins, much more genuine than his awkward quirk of the lips from earlier. “Yeah, good call, I’ll let the others know pronto.”
“Aces,” Remus says, tosses him a obligatory thumbs-up before finding an expectant looking Alice who’s tapping her foot impatiently.
Yeah, today is so bloody shit.
.-
Surprisingly, the round of drinks turns to another and then a third and fourth and Remus is currently nursing his fifth mango margarita on Benjy’s tab, and he actually feels lighter than he has since taking the job at Phoenix, feels bright and bubbling and like absolutely nothing could be wrong as long as he’s got this drink in his grasp and he’s sitting with the handful of reporters and photographers from the office that don’t all have sticks up their asses. It’s fun, it’s good. So obviously it couldn’t have lasted.
Mary is currently cackling about her Uber driver from last night who asked her all sorts of well meaning, but incredibly dense questions about her hijab— a freshly poured glass of coke in one hand, while the other is tangled into her girlfriend Emmy’s. And From his left Remus can hear Fabian ribbing Frank on his crush on Alice, while Benjy scoots intermittently closer as they watch Kingsley and Marlene sparring over something to do with a Kardashian or TikTok trend or whatever the fuck else— The guy has resilience, Remus has to give Benjy that.
“Right, who’s buying next?” Marlene asks, abrasive as ever while scrolling through her phone, ostensively finding something to prove her point against the managing editor.
“Reckon it’s my turn,” Benjy crows, standing up smoothly and glancing down at Remus with a nervous sort of half grin.
“Just a water for me, ta. I need to sober up,” Remus tells him, feels proud that he didn’t even slur slightly. Benjy bobs his head understandingly, and Remus turns to ask Marlene about her latest tinder hookup which always is a good laugh, but then he catches on it. On the sound of the pub’s doors flinging open, followed by a raucous crowd of athletic looking guys probably only a bit older than he is, clambering indoors.
They’re all so very sixth-form, broad grins and slapping each other’s shoulders with jeers, topped off with loud, bark like laughter that makes it obvious to Remus that these wankers think that they’re some sort of group of gods amongst men, roaming around like everyone should fall to their feet and offer everything they have. It makes Remus roll his eyes so far back that it feels like he might’ve sprained them. They just give off this exhausting aura that reminds him of a past boyfriend in tenth year who was on the footie team and who’s favorite activity was either making Remus feel lucky enough to go out with someone so popular, or dragging him around like some sort of bloody trophy.
To put it nicely, Remus sorta hates them on sight. So when he sees one of the tossers— regrettably the brightest of the lot who’s all pearly teeth, and glittering eyes and incredibly impressive shoulders that tape off to a narrow waste in an objectively infuriating matter— swivels up to the barkeep and jostles Benjy on his way, well Remus doesn’t hesitate to dart forwards to tell him off.
“Oi, watch where you’re going, yeah?”
Benjy and the bloke who looks like he might moonlight as a model for Calvin briefs for when he’s not lounging in a yacht off the Tuscany coast, both turn to him at the same time. Benjy looking abashed, and the aforementioned tosser preening like the cat who’s just caught a canary.
“Sorry, love. Didn’t see you there,” he says in a delightfully deep tenner, giving Remus an appreciative once over, and Remus absolutely despises how the action makes him feel both thrilled and irritated. “Trust and believe, I wouldn’t have looked away if I saw you.”
“Not me, arse.” Remus spits back, refuses to pay any credence to how his cheeks have begun to flush. “You bumped into my mate right there, the one with the tray of loggers.”
The tosser darts his almost molten gray eyes over to Benjy for a sparing second before he laser focusses back onto Remus, the most phony expression of contrition all over his face. “Sorry to your friend,” he says the descriptor like a joke that no one else is in on. “Let me buy you a drink in sorry for the one I made slim here spill.”
Remus is officially unimpressed, hopes that his flat tone gets it across. “You’re an arse.”
“You’re mouthy,” he retorts, looks like it’s something he greatly appreciates— delights over even.
“Ah, ’s fine Remus, really. I’ll just bring these back and get us a new glass.”
“Listen to slim, Remus, he’s got the right idea.” The tosser hurriedly interjects, strutting close enough to him that he makes it so Remus has to tip his head back just slightly so not to drop his gaze. “I’m Black, Sirius Black, just to get the pleasantries out of the way.” His leer tells Remus that the name should probably evoke some response of aw into Remus, but all it does is make him sound so egregiously pretentious that Remus wants to smack his own bloody head against a dry wall and stay in the hole until this ruddy Sirius bloke leaves him the hell alone.
“Good for you,” he says instead of all of that, and spots Sirius’s friends from behind Sirius chuckling and elbowing one another. Evidently this is a line the tosser uses frequently, and Remus is pleased that he might be one of the first who aren’t at all impressed by the grandiose way he introduced himself.
“Hah, you know I’m use to the pretty ones playing hard to get, but I’m really feeling here that you’re not exactly liking my company, love.”
Remus sucks in a frustrated breath through his nose, shouldering past Sirius and taking the tray of drinks from Benjy before storming back to their table where the others have begun openly gawping at the scene— Marlene outright squawking with Fabian just as Remus takes his seat.
“Don’t,” Remus warns them all as he silently says fuck off to the water and instead gargles down one of the loggers. And if he has to steadfastly not turn around for the rest of the night towards where he can feel Sirius’s gaze burning into his back— well then so be it.
.-
The next morning, Remus has to puke twice into the toilet, and gulps down three aspirins just to stave off his bloody hangover from the night before where he decided that getting properly sloshed would prove as a good technique to not end up making out with Sirius in some dark corner— or regrettably the backseat of his car. And if he does still remember flashes of ranting to him about how insufferable preppy, rich boys actually are while Sirius gazed at him endeared— well Remus just decides to purge it out along with the stomach acid. It’s not like he’ll ever see the douche again.
.-
He meets Arthur— one of the accountants who also helps out by taking photos for more low key news stories— outside the hospital where the conference will be taking place with the Manchester United team. There was a scrimmage that they all played with some of the kids in the cancer ward that occurred at around eight in the ruddy morning, but thankfully Remus didn’t have to show up until an hour later when the team presented their big shiny check, to the big, shiny hospital.
However, Arthur has been here for hours, so he’s beyond chirpy and looks like he’s downed three cups of espresso as he chatters on about his son Percy starting secondary school, and his eldest, Bill, getting an award for his reading prowess, and all the strange craving his wife has been having throughout her pregnancy with the twins they’re expecting any week now. And Remus loves Arthur, he does— one of the sweetest folks he’s ever met— but God, his head is still thrumming from those misguided tequila shots and he really just wants to get his three quotes, and write up the story so he can find refuge back in his sheets.
While Arthur has moved to talking about his wife, Molly’s, plans to open up a daycare in their refurnished garage, Remus scans his eyes over the familiar face of reporters from other outlets who look just as bored as him, and then to the stage where a woman in a sharply pressed suit is ushering for the group of football stars to join her, so that the conference can finally fucking begin.
And Remus thinks that their faces are sorta familiar, probably from all the publicity they get on the telly— but then he freezes as he stops at one of them with dark brown skin, and thick rimmed spectacles— and he suddenly can hear him chatting about his redheaded girlfriend and drunkenly declaring that she’ll be the mother of his children some day soon. So he completely expects it when his stomach drops as he moves his glance just a bit to the right, being struck by pearly teeth, and glittering eyes and incredibly impressive shoulders that tape off to a narrow waste, made all the more infuriating by the tight kit he’s got on and the blazing number twelve splayed against his chest.
And fuck.
Remus runs through about a dozen scenarios in which he can make a discrete, or not so discrete exit before he notices him, but in tandem to his spiraling thoughts, the wanker actually looks forwards, and like a creepy metal detector, his quick silver gaze pinpoints onto Remus.
They stare at one another for a beat before his smirk goes wolfish, and he runs a hand through his artfully tousled hair in a way that practically screams, fancy meeting you here. And holy fuck he looks so mouth watteringly attractive with that faint film of sweat running down his neck, and how his smile pulls slightly more to the left, and how he’s looking at Remus like he’s his birthday and Christmas presents all rolled into one.
Remus suddenly hates everything— but most of all hates Sirius, and how bloody fit he is.
“Oh, you’re a fan then?”
Starting, Remus shifts around slightly so that he’s facing Arthur completely. “Pardon?”
“Sirius Black I mean, you’re a fan?” Arthur asks in that abrasively congenial and intensely scrutinizing way that he treats everything. “I mean he’s a great player, but I know you don’t really watch. So I bet it’s all that charity work he does, yeah?”
“Charity work?” Remus echos, feeling like a floundering fish.
“Truly some amazing stuff.” Arthur pontificates, rubbing a hand against his jaw as he tips his head back. “I mean obviously I’m partial to the fundraising for Reporters Without Borders, but of course the things he does with the more impoverished kids is great. And I know Molly likes his very outspoken posts about being anti war and his annual live streams to earn money for refugees in those war torn nations, like the last one he did for Syria?”
“Oh—“ Remus says, feeling like his head is being overrun by a fountain of new information.
“Yes well, you don’t usually see athletes get into the thick of it with political issues, but I reckon he never really minded. I mean the fact he’s the first football star from United to have come out without any fanfare really proved that. Oh, I think they’re starting, I should probably get some photos before Dorcas gives me a tongue lashing.”
And as quick as the flash of his camera’s lends, Arthur is using his considerable height to get to a more advantageous spot towards the front, and leaves Remus in the dust, as if he hasn’t just obliterated his every assumption of Sirius from after that initial meeting.
And unbidden, the words his mother had told him so many years ago, about facts and how they can color a situation just simply based off the person who’s speaking them— flood to the forefront of his mind.
“Fucking hell,” Remus mutters lowly, gets jostled by Greengrass, a hawkish reporter from a rivaling publication who always has on the most wickedly sharp acrylic nails, and perfectly quaffed curls— as she waves around her certification to speak her inquiry.
“My question is for Potter,” she announces when the woman leading the event, McGonagall, points her way. “And I was wondering how early you boys have to rise for training during the season? And how intense the sessions are that Coach Hooch puts you guys through?”
Potter, the one with the redheaded girlfriend that Remus heard so much about last night between his ranting at Sirius, parts his lips, but it’s not his voice that ends up reverberating through the outdoors space. Instead, it’s Sirius, who’s shouldering him with a goading air, obviously expecting his comment to have only ended up in Potter’s ear and not caught by the mike.
“I wonder if Lupin will let me wake up with’m so he can let me get some real training done before practices, eh?”
And just as soon as his words pitter off, the entire crowd drops to a hush— quiet enough so that they could probably hear it if a pen dropped.
Sirius’s handsome face— strong jawline, and broad but sharp cheekbones, and a long, narrow nose— goes suddenly ashen, and he flashes over to Remus as if he’s terrified that he’ll bite his face off.
God, what an idiot.
With a long suffering sigh, Remus plucks out the microphone from a slack faced Greengrass’s hand. “We can discuss the regimen afterwards, Black. Just meet me by the front doors and let your mate answer the bloody question.”
Everyone around them falls into laughter that’s caught between uncomfortable chuckles and amazingly amused cackling, but the only person Remus is paying any mind is Sirius, and how he seems to have gone absolutely incandescent, nodding electrically before miming the zip of his lips and gesturing for Potter to carry on.
Jesus help him, Remus has no idea what he’s gotten himself into.

"Bellarke doesn't make sense," they say. They say because Clarke hasn't done anything that resembles romantic gestures toward Bellamy.
Conceding to march to her possible death in exchange for Roan sparing Bellamy's life. Obstinately fighting against Bellamy's stubborn wishes to remain outside the Ark while Praimfaya burns to the world to ashes. Shattering her soul by choosing 100 people to live and writing his name on the list, because he must survive. She can't have it any other way. Relinquishing 50 of those spots to Azgeda when Bellamy is captured and threatened, and Roan calls her bluff. Desperation driving her to the extreme to ensure the survival of the human race, yet unable to kill Bellamy to keep the bunker closed and the grounders from possibly killing Skaikru. Leaving the guaranteed safety of the fort to stay by Bellamy's side on the brink of global cataclysm. The bittersweet yet soft head and heart exchange she prompted. The hesitation in her last remark before imploring him to hurry.
4x13 ends six years and seven days post-Praimfaya with Clarke radioing Bellamy on the Ring. An activity she performs daily for six years. In any six years of my adult life, my only daily consistencies have been limited to breathing, eating, and sleeping. This girl is devoted enough to send her equivalent of love letters into the emptiness of space for 2,199 days. Season 5 opens with her trying to survive by herself in an apocalyptic wasteland. She spends her journey narrating to him her unvarnished struggles during the most traumatic experience of her young life to date. Her despondency. Her loneliness. Her agony. Her desperation. Her small victories. Her discovered treasures. Her determination. Her doubt. Her guilt. Her defeat. Her morbid self-reflection. Her relief and contentment. Her happiness. Her admission of missing him. She shares all of it with only him. Only he is permitted to know her to this depth. Not any of her other people on the Ring. Not any of her people in the bunker, a group including her mother. Not a spiritual communion to the great, big love of her life Lxa, situated on her throne in the high heavens and waiting for her trophy wife, for Clarke to stay connected to her dearly departed. Isn't that the sort of behavior that might occur by a bereft widow?
After finding an oasis to rest and call home, even after discovering a companion to build a life with, she continues with her radio calls. It doesn't matter that he never received her communications. The importance of the gesture- the intimacy of sharing her life and thoughts with him while he was gone- remains the same. The magnitude of her devotion to him made clearer through the absence of a single responding utterance.
She lovingly tells Madi stories of Bellamy as her hero. Gazing warmly, hopefully up at the stars as if she longs for her vision to cut through an endless pitch-black sky and find dark curls and freckled constellations from thousands of miles away.
"Bellarke doesn't make sense," they say. They say because post-Praimfaya ended with an established B/E.
As Clarke looks up at the stars, questioning if she'll see Bellamy again, we transition to our first glimpse of Bellamy after six years, forlornly looking down on Earth to the very spot of green where he is unaware of who is yearning for him to return to her. Contrary to Clarke, who is covered in warm firelight when thinking of him, he is colored in cold, muted greys and blue, no speck of warm hue. (The rhyming scheme was unintentional, but hey, I'm going with it.) Behind him, his family is sparring, but he's distant from them. He's trapped within this tin can, his arms folded, his body taut, not facing the view on the other side of the glass, but still enraptured by the sight of his home below.
We see what changes to the characters and their dynamics have taken place until, at long last, we uproariously cheer as Bellamy & Co. find a way to return to Earth, the sole event we've been anticipating for eleven months, to the point we could feel it at our fingertips, jittery and tingly. Bellarke reunion!! He's going to know she's alive! Yes! Finally!! Break out the champagne! We're celebrating, dammit! It's going to be so damn emotional! Authors start crafting mental fanfics. People are bouncing off the walls like bright, errant fireworks, unable to sit still. I can't believe it's finally happening...what do you think it's going to be like? Will he run to her? Will he be stunned and speechless? Will they sob uncontrollably?!? They'll be clutching the life out of each other! Another Bellarke hug!! The very best hug!!! They're never going to let the other out of their sight again! He's going to meet Madi! Mom, dad, and adopted preteen make three!!! There's no way they're not getting together after this!! He just got her back after six years of thinking she was dead!! The reunion's not going to happen this episode, but maybe next week, when do you think? You mean we have to wait seven days before----
B e c h o.
We stood on the precipice of what we agonized and crawled through for eleven excruciating months, only for an anvil to drop, and our heads to be clubbed. Our bodies fell through the floor, descending lower and lower with immense haste, to take up residence in the seventh circle of hell.
Do you think the framing of these events wasn't intentional?
Do you think the powers that be behind the creation of that calamitous bombshell for our protagonist, intended for us to root for B/E?
By us, I'm not restricting the effect of the blow to Bellarke shippers. The entire audience, casual and fandom alike, shippers and non-shippers, was meant to await this reunion. We were all meant to feel devastated by this revelation.
If they didn't want to invoke in us feelings of support for B/E at their inception, how in the name of all things holy is a purported B/E endgame your conclusion?
"B/E doesn't make any sense," they say, "when last we saw them, she was his enemy. Nothing more, nothing less."
Do I think their pre-Praimfaya status as antagonists rendered it impossible for B/E to have a convincing love story or sexual relationship?
I think, if Jason were so inclined, we could have gotten flashback Ring rendezvous of secret trysts between Bellamy and a googly-eyed, blonde-wig-wearing broomstick designated Clarke 2.0. So no, I don't consider B/E a deviation inherently outside the realm of romantic possibility. Jason is an artist, and this show is his canvas. He can give life to almost any whim he'd like in his work of fiction. Not only that, but B/E is also hardly the first pairing in this series modeled by the enemies-to-lovers trope.
"Bellarke doesn't make sense, they'd say, "absent any concrete evidence alluding to a romantic relationship." "Seven years running, and not a trace of romantic love," they'd conclude.
Remind me, what was B/E's sublime prologue into coupling up again?
Furiously choking the life out of an enemy in a fit of rage two episodes before revealing her as his new girlfriend evidently can be considered by some an adequate precursor to a sensational romantic relationship. But endangering Earthkru's lives by risking the wrath of two societies in refusing to let Clarke die, pumping her heart for her to stay alive while begging her to fight so she can come back to him, cannot be.
Either this show is quite the oddity, or it’s fandom's periodic knee-jerk, ass-backwards, charming zeal at play.
The lack of rising development is all the more reason why B/E's grand unveiling demanded perfection. Instead, our first insight into their union is overshadowed by Clarke and the impending Bellarke reunion. B/E isn't central enough to the narrative to warrant focus that would put to rest any discord of illegitimacy. But you know which pair of the two is concentrated on for seven seasons now? Three guesses...
But don't despair. Fandom has decreed, by its own appraisal, the shorthand of kissing and sex has rectified the discrepancy of a complete absence of pertinent on-screen development.
"It's not ideal storytelling," they say, "to exclude B/E's development. But The 100 has historically been a plot-driven, fast-paced, contained drama. It has always evaded expanding on character dynamics to fans' satisfaction.”
The writers have done more to present Josephine and Gabriel as soulmates with less airtime than B/E ever had in total. They don't lack the skill or time to fortify B/E in anyone's mind as the central romance. Jason made a conscious choice not to. Why would he? Does he think the endgame love story of the show's deuteragonist doesn't merit attention to detail by the writing? Or does it seem more likely, it was never his intention for B/E to cross the finish line?
And, for a plot-driven, fast-paced, contained drama, they sure have an awful knack for finding the time to showcase Clarke's kicked puppy reactions to an embracing B/E. We've had three thus far. One for science, one for emphasis, and one to say, "Do you people get it now?"
"Bellarke doesn't make any sense," they say, "if they wanted each other, they'd have gotten together by now."
A long time ago, someone stated, "Lovers are supposed to do that you know and if they don’t do that it means their relationship isn’t romantic if sexual intercourse isn’t added."
And to that, I posed the question, "Where exactly is it written that "if a pairing is not made canon by season [insert arbitrarily chosen number here], it will never be made canon, period?" Was I just absent from fandom class that day and skipped to the lesson on slow-burn ships?" We are going into the final season, and I stand by this question today as I did then. Bellarke could refrain from physical expressions of love and candid confessions to season 17, and their journey could continue to exemplify a love story. Because the absence of either one doesn't preclude two people from falling in love. Nor does the inclusion of either one necessitate two people falling in love.
"Bellarke doesn't make any sense," they say. They say because Bellamy is her dearly beloved, but platonic, best friend.
Well, you've got me there. I'm stumped. How can it be possible for friendship and romantic love to behave as anything but mutually exclusive concepts? It's not as if friendship can be contorted to serve as a foundation for love.
The cornerstones of strong friendships include trust, care, support, devotion, and many other features of a similar nature. Love- deep and genuine love, that is- involves frequent kissing and passionate, vigorous sex. The wilder the display, the stronger the pairing. The dozens of couples, love interests, and sexual liaisons before B/E who have kissed and had sex before dying must not have first consulted the manual for proper protocol.
And the inverse? Once two people fall in love, they cannot fall back to say, a familial connection. No, no, no. Such a regression would be the work of a tragic, reprehensible flaw in the cogs of the universe. Speak nothing of it.
"It doesn't make sense for B/E to break up," they say, "when B/E has stayed together for two seasons sans any indication Bellamy loves Clarke more than Echo, enough to want to leave his loving girlfriend."
How many times has Bellamy tried and failed to honor his commitment to Echo? How many weak attempts are met with a corresponding scene of Bellamy shifting his attention to the girl he tells himself to get over?
Echo leaves for Shallow Valley, his focus immediately turns onto persuading Clarke not to leave his side. He symbolically chooses Echo in the fireside scene by touching her sword. Yet, he looks at his girlfriend for the first time since their separation with the most aloof expression unsuitable for the occasion. No hope to be found anywhere. They share a brief reunion hug, no time for intimacy. He is reunited with Clarke and casts a nervous glance at Echo when bombarded with Clarke's appreciative gaze. Still no time for intimacy between B/E before a decade-long nap, but time can be carved out for a warm, flirty Bellarke reconciliation, complete with intensive heart eyes. No inspired, emotionally wrought, double sunlit embraces for B/E. If Bellamy is going to look out of a window at his future home, he'll either be by himself or snuggling Clarke into his side. There's no place for Echo in the lock of his arms anymore, only room for flanking him in the way loyal lieutenants tend to do. His girlfriend glances over at him as their exploratory team roughly plummets to new territory, and he does the same at Clarke. B/E reconnects lakeside, him asking for a swim with her and leaning into her arms at a campfire. He sits by her side on a swing set, amidst talk of moving their people into an abandoned village. And it's all well and good for B/E, right? They're presenting the front of a happy, unified couple.
Until...Clarke walks away behind his sight, and he leaves Echo's side to seek Clarke's missing presence where the flirting and warm gazes and near confessions are kicked into overdrive. He calls Echo to hear his latest discovery, then proceeds to ignore the hell out of her, communicating exclusively to his co-leader. He stares wistfully at Clarke dancing with her new flavor of the night, cannot stop doing so even while excoriating Echo for her stoicism, expressing his frustration at her inability to fulfill his emotional needs.
He recommits to Echo, as Clarke is kidnapped and her body is stolen, with nary a transition, suggesting we are meant to link the two incidents together. For all his resolve to face the future with Echo, he spends the whole of the next episode with a wary eye on Clarke, to the point that he is the first to realize Clarke is not herself. In the ensuing arc ranging from 6x05 to 6x11, approximately half of the season, what was B/E, again? Was that a thing concurrently happening with Bellamy's Operation: Save My Clarke? Because I seem to be able to recall only Bellarke goodness. Oh, my mistake, there was the consoling hug which, oddly enough, did nothing to soothe him. As evidenced by his choice to grieve alone. No girlfriend he wanted close by for comfort, knowing clear as day she couldn't provide it if she tried. Not with who he just lost.
B/E gets another brief reunion hug, the majority of which is spent with him peering at Clarke. The show saw that hug and raised us an Austenesque-quality counterpart that would do Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy proud.
"B/E endgame is the only sensible outcome," they say, "they love each other so much."
I don't contend they don't love each other. But we are shown two people determined but incapable of snuffing their deep-rooted feelings out of noble propriety, and most importantly, out of needless fear of unrequited love. And another two people who sought- and failed- to keep grasping the wisps of a gentle relationship slipping out of their hands since they left their comfortable space bubble. For anyone in this conundrum to be happy, the only natural course of action is for the latter to call it quits. The writing has been on the wall for too long.
Maybe a single Bellarke scene plucked out of the lineup can be interpreted on its own as platonic buddies being platonic buddies. But when all those individual moments are woven together, what forms is an ornate tapestry with a pattern so vivid, any inane rhetoric involving a hint of the word "platonic" is little more than ludicrous anti drivel transparently cooked up by those wishing a different endgame.
I hope you've enjoyed my second long-winded rant, @sometimesrosy, @jeanie205, @travllingbunny. One born of a teaching moment in which I learn for the umpteenth time it's best to steer clear of Twitter.

I whipped up this oh-so-fancy banner to add a post in my links list of my Sherlock WIPs so that I can cross them off when I finish them without having to take AO3s word I have 60+ WIPs when I get a few of them showing up multiple times in the search engine. This is the year I finish these fuckers if it kills me. If you want any of these updated, just send me one ask per fic so I can reply with the new chapter!
...And All The Men And Women Merely Players (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, Mycroft/Lestrade, Moriarty/Eurus) - Mycroft Holmes is not-so-subtly trying to make sure there's a reconciliation between his youngest sibling Sherlock and his ex-wife, Molly Hooper, by forcing them to work together on a theatre project. But it isn't all smooth sailing when his and Sherlock's sister comes back from the States with a boyfriend who is the devil incarnate...and all hell is about to break loose.
A Heartbreaking Loss (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - One moment Sherlock and John are in a cab on their way to a case. The next moment, Sherlock's world is flipped upside down with more than he can handle, and he slips to means of coping that are not the best. But those who know him best, especially his wife, stay by his side as he struggles to fill the gap in his heart and heal himself, physically and mentally.
A Study In Pink (Sherlock; Sherlock/Mary) - Rosamund Mary Watson had never expected to set foot in London again, but she finds herself in need of employment and a better flat. Enter her old professor Mike Stamford, who tells her about the man who will change her life forever...
All The Little Signs (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, John/Mary) - The repercussions from Sherlock’s faked death did more than just affect his relationships with his friends, Sherlock realizes when Molly loses her position at St. Bart’s for falsifying medical documents and loses her fiancé in the process. While Molly gets her life sorted out and decides what she wants Sherlock does the same, but is it too late when he decides what he wants in his life is Molly?
Any Press Is (Supposedly) Good Press (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - Sherlock Holmes is having to rebuild his life in a number of ways from an unfortunate overdose while he was trying to break away from the image he'd crafted since he was a child. His best friend Molly has an idea: to gain some freedom, they can pretend to date for the duration of December. Maybe longer, if the plan works. And Sherlock is more than happy to go along with it...at first. Until feelings start to develop between them. Until his past comes back into his life. Until he has an abundance of tough choices to make.Until his very life depends on making the right decision, this time.
As Long As You Love Me Truly (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - All Molly Hooper wants to do is get her big break on the London stage. She might have a chance when she's asked to be the lead in one of the most anticipated productions on the West End, and by the star himself, Sherlock Holmes. But things don't exactly go according to the plan she had in her head of how she would become a well known actress, and as time goes on she needs to figure out whether she wants fame or whether she wants something more fulfilling.
Been Around A Few Times, All That's Missing Is You (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, John/Mary) - Molly Hooper is a rising star in the musical crowd, having gotten Grammy nominations for music on her debut album. But Molly is keeping what could be a career-ending secret...and perhaps relationship ending as well.
Children Of Light, Children Of Dark (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, John/Mary) - There are a series of murders going on that have a pattern, and Sherlock sees glimpses of it but can’t fathom it completely. But Molly realizes it’s reminiscent of an unsolved case her mentor had told her about, where the murders were based on a series of fantasy novels that Molly herself adores. Sherlock asks her to use her knowledge as a pathologist and a fan of the series to help him figure out both sets of murders, and in the process Molly gets quite a bit more than she bargained for.
Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, Mycroft/Anthea) - It all begins with an invitation to Mycroft's wedding to his PA and seven days at a resort in Jamaica, with the assumption that Molly pretends to be his girlfriend that his mother might be under the impression that he's going to propose to sooner rather than later. It ends up being so much more than that...
Feared Never To Be Seen Again (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - On her way to a conference in Scotland, a malfunction with the chartered plane Molly is on causes it to crash in an uninhabited area of England with no way of communicating with anyone to get help for herself and the others who were injured. A series of heavy storms in the area make it hard to search for the plane, leading many to believe they may not have survived. But both Molly and Sherlock have ideas quite to the contrary...
Getting To Know The Neighbour (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - When Sherlock returns to Oxford after the death of his parents his neighbour introduces herself, and he feels a connection to her. As he navigates the life his father had expected for him, the life he was sure he never wanted, he has to decide if it’s what he really wants, or if it’s something he can walk away from again…this time, maybe, with someone he loves by his side.
In Dreams, There Is A Kernel Of Truth (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - Sherlock has lived an entire section of his life while in a coma after being shot by Mary. When he wakes up, he vows to use the knowledge from that dream, knowing there is truth to the types of dreams he has, to change events of the future for the better.
In The Name Of Love (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, Trevor/OMC, Irene/Janine, Mycroft/Lestrade) - In a world where soulmates have fingernails whose colours match the colour of their soulmate's hair, Sherlock wonders what his rainbow coloured nails mean. But it's at the back of his mind as he and Victor decide to find their brother's soulmate once and for all. Meanwhile, Molly is jealous that Irene has moved on, but when her ex-girlfriend's new girlfriend is actually more than sweet and asks for a favour, Molly can't find it in her heart to say no, leaving her with a head full of rainbow locks. Both Sherlock and Molly feel they have no hope of finding their soulmates, or that they even need them, to be quite honest, but after one day of celebration in London, both will believe that maybe there's something to be said for love after all.
It Can Be As Real As You Or I (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - At the very beginning of a case to help Janine, it comes out that the very eligible and spectacular stud in the bedroom Sherlock Holmes has married local specialist registrar, Dr. Molly Hooper. Which would be fine and all, except it's a fake marriage. That Sherlock wants to make real by the end of the case. But Kitty Riley's constant hounding of him throughout the case, turning every tidbit she hears (always out of context) into tabloid fodder, is going to make that virtually impossible, he fears...though he might very well be surprised himself.
It Happened One Summer (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - After her engagement ends and Molly becomes a bit depressed, one of her professors recommends she spend the summer working as a camp counselor at Pali Adventures, a sleepaway camp in the Pacific Palisades. She’s hoping for a summer that changes her outlook on the world, but she doesn’t expect a summer that changes her whole life.
It Takes The Whole Of London (Sherlock; Molly-centric) - When one of Molly's best friends and her husband die in a car accident, Molly finds herself the guardian of their six-month-old daughter, and in an instant her entire life changes, and she comes to find solace in the fact that there is truth in the old adage "it takes a village" when she finds herself raising Maya on her own.
Love And Anarchy (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - Molly grew up appreciating the punk subculture and everything it stood for, embracing most aspects of it and adopting them for her own. Sherlock...did not. When the two of them are neighbors they find, at least at first, that the cultural divide in their upbringing might be too much of a bridge to cross. But slowly, they discover that they have some fundamental things in common and, over time, the friendship that develops blossoms into something more.
Nothing's Changed That Matters (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - When Sherlock comes to Molly in Oxford ten years after their divorce with a favour to ask, she agrees to help. While a lot has changed some things remain very much the same...including the love that Sherlock and Molly once shared.
Of Floral Arrangements, Tattoos and Brotherly Reconciliation (Sherlock; Mycroft/Lestrade, Sherlock/John, Sally/Molly) - For years, the Holmes brothers have owned shops next door to each other, and for years, there's been a rift between them. No one except their sister knows why but now, after Mycroft agrees to marry his long-time love Gregory, their employees and friends conspire to mend that breach between them...for better or for worse.
Pawns On The Board, Flies On The Web (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, Mycroft/Anthea, John/Mary, minor Tom/Molly) - When an American politician is murdered and deposited in Mycroft’s office, it’s Sebastian Moran’s sign that he is done allowing Mycroft and Sherlock their little game at dismantling Moriarty’s organization. But with Sherlock having returned to London, albeit not in time to stop the plot from being put into motion, Moran’s ploy may not be as effective as he hopes it to be, not with Mycroft, Sherlock, Anthea, Molly and others working hard to stop him in his tracks.
Rectifying Past Mistakes (Sherlock; Sherlock/Mary) - When Mycroft gets Sherlock out of Serbia, he drops a bombshell on him he isn't quite prepared for: after years of being gone out of his life, Sherlock's ex-wife Elizabeth has reappeared, under the name Mary Morstan. While he was off taking care of Moriarty's mess she was protecting those he cared about and helping his brother, for reasons, he finds, that she is keeping close to the vest. But when they're forced to stay in close quarters at Baker Street both secrets and old wounds come to light and, perhaps, things might turn out for the best after all.
The Cursed Dragon (Sherlock; Moran/Molly) - On the eve of Princess Molly's twenty-fifth birthday, a dragon comes to lay waste to her kingdom. Eventually, a lottery is set up to give the dragon a virgin sacrifice, but when Molly stumbles onto a wicked scheme by the royal advisor Magnussen, she finds herself picked as the next sacrifice and kept from telling the truth to her mother. Prepared to fight the dragon on her own if need be, she is taken to a remote part of her kingdom by the dragon...who is not quite what he seems.
The Greatest Prank Of The Millennia (And What It Wrought) (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, John/Mary) - When Molly finds herself paired with school outcast Sherlock to be in charge of the senior prank, she finds herself drawn to him despite all the problems it's bound to cause. But when push comes to shove, will she stay by his side or leave him be?
The Presence (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - Since Sherlock has constructed his mind palace as a young child, there has been a presence there, a female who loves him but who he swears he's never met. As he grows older, this presence comforts him, protects him and, eventually, becomes so much more.
The Science Behind It All (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - Sherlock despises school, despises his teachers and his classmates, or at least most of them. There's one teacher who is actually quite important to him. When a new student comes to class she also becomes important to him, and he realizes that, perhaps, he can muddle through the rest of his adolescence with them by his side.
The Sweetest Music (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly) - It seems as though in one fell swoop everything Molly Hooper knows is taken away from her: her education, her mother, her home. She tries to lose herself in her music but finds it harder than ever before. But perhaps all is not lost, as her new life provides her more than she ever expected.
To Throw Away The Map (Sherlock; Sherlock/Molly, John/Mary) - Six months after the events on the plane, Sherlock is trying to make a fresh start. He has to renew friendships, rebuild his career and try his best to keep his life together when the first case he’s allowed to work again ties directly into the Moriarty conspiracy. But with those he holds close near and willing to support him, with one person in particular being extremely supportive, perhaps he will be able to make it after all.
What Could Have Been, What Will Be In Its Stead (Sherlock; Mycroft/Molly) - When Sherlock dies, he leaves behind a woman he planned to marry and a child he did not know about. Mycroft is determined to take care of them both in his brother's stead, but nothing is ever as easy as one plans. That is the true Holmes legacy.
What Started As Petty Revenge (Sherlock; Lestrade/Sally) - When Lestrade is invited to the wedding of a friend who is a mutual friend of his ex-wife, Sally agrees to go as his girlfriend for the three days of festivities in Dover as a bit of petty revenge against his ex. But it doesn't turn out quite as planned when true feelings from all involved come to the surface and Lestrade needs to make some decisions about who he wants in his life and in what way he wants them in it.

Art Claims Round 4
Fourth and last round of story claims are up. At the time of this posting, 47 stories are left. These are all really fantastic stories that deserve an awesome artist. Please look into your hearts and see if you want to claim any of these. Also, PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS. Bribe them with smiles and candy. I've just checked with my lawyer and it's perfectly acceptable to grab your artist friends and stuff them in a sack and bring them over here*. *Actually, my lawyer's words were more like "Don't do that." This year, art claims are working a little differently than in years past. We are using a google form to streamline things, which should make things easier both for you as participants and us mods. To claim a story, the form requires email, check in ID, and the identifying number of your first choice of story. Putting your top three choices is best in case your first or second has already been chosen. Your check in ID should be different from any fic you signed up for or any previous art claim. Please be sure you've read the FAQ before claiming.
Click here to claim a story.
Stories are listed by fandom in alphabetical order and then by the story name, with a number identifying that story (for our records).
Stories are first come, first serve
. I'll update this post as stories are claimed. Official posting dates begin on July 27th. Once all stories are claimed and all artists/authors have been notified, I will put up a sign-up sheet so authors and artists can choose their posting dates.
Authors, if something is wrong with the info for your stories, please let me know ASAP here or via email at [email protected].

WATCH: 'Greater danger,' according to Trump advisers, in SDNY investigation: NYT's Haberman
Transcript for ‘Greater danger,’ according to Trump advisers, in SDNY investigation: NYT’s Haberman
Sort of entitled to one good story in “The New York Times.” I started off and ran against very smart people, and a lot of them. I came from Jamaica queens, and Jamaica estates, and now I’m president of the United States. I’m sort of entitled to a great story, just one, from my newspaper. That was president trump in the oval office with reporters from the “New York Times” including Maggie Haberman who joins our round table. I guess that’s why the meeting happened. He wants some good coverage from “The New York Times.” How did you find him? Right. Absolutely very subdued. He was very engaged, but he was very adamant on what he believed is the case. So for instance, he was insistent that the Intel chiefs had told him that he had been very angry at them because of their testimony on the hill, that they had — the media had mischaracterized what they said, and he accepted that, and why he finds himself at odds with his own government at times. He couldn’t articulate an answer to, that just said that doesn’t really happen. It does. It was the world as Donald Trump wants to see it regardless of whether that is true with objective facts. And Sara Fagan, you have taken them and calling them naive, and saying the next day, they didn’t say what the entire song, they were saying on capitol hill. We watch his Twitter handle and take it so literally and I think for most of America, they don’t, and for the president, you know, he has a tendency to — anger moves him at the moment and then he resorts back. You know, I look at the way he interacts with government and the way he interacts with the public sort of differently, and here’s a person who has a 30% base in the country, strong. No matter what happens, what he says, they support him. Another 15%, you know, they like him on taxes. They like him on judges, but they don’t like what he says about intelligence. He moved within that framework as he operates his government. One of the things you started to see this week, Patrick Gaspard, you saw a little bit on the government shutdown and saw it on the intelligence, the agency. You saw it with Mitch Mcconnell’s resolution saying we should not be coming out of Afghanistan that quickly. More Republicans, at least elected Republicans being willing to create some distance from the president. Certainly creating a distance on intelligence issues. Mark Warner said workers need to appreciate that intelligence officers risked their lives to get the information that the president just didn’t dismiss, in a tweet, and the Republicans in the house appreciate the intelligence officials approach their work with an integrity that is not nonpartisan. I appreciate what you are saying, Sara, between governance and politics, but institutions matter and the way the Americans see institutions through the lens is profoundly influenced by every comment, every tweet, every pronouncement made by the chief executive and I’m pleased to see senator Mitch Mcconnell and other Republicans standing up and saying, let’s be incredibly careful about this. I’m not suggesting it doesn’t matter, but what I do think is unless and until there is some very significant world event where that contrast was drawn and people can point back to it, you know, it’s noise right now. I would say — I would say there has been a number of significant world events where that contrast has been shown. It’s not helpful to the country. There has been a contrast between his tweets and the things he said on trade, things that he said on North Korea, things he said on Syria, things he said on the intelligence agencies. We have seen that contrast, which is why a majority of the country disapproves of him and doesn’t trust the president today. I think the president is right about something. He is right that we shouldn’t just accept whatever the intelligence agencies say point-blank. We have seen that they have made mistakes in the past. I think the problem is, is when you go in as president with preconceived notions and ignore facts that are presented because you have a preconceived notion. If you think about the bush administration and what happened in Iraq, part of what happened is there was preconceived notions about what people wanted it to be, and then they sought out data and information in order to confirm that data. I think the president — it’s been reported that he doesn’t read a great deal amount of information, doesn’t study these issues a great deal, but my — my problem with the president is he has a preconceived notion and he doesn’t want facts getting in the way. One of the other dangers — I was struck by an article in “Time” magazine. It was talked about intelligence officials are shaping the briefings to not bring the president facts and it appears dangerous. The president is commander in chief and he said he has had disagreements with his intelligence officers, but he respects them and he still believes them and trusts them. The president’s not going to sit there and just take — we know what happened to Colin Powell. We all know that, with the weapons of mass destruction. President trump is going to question every single thing that comes before him and he’s not scared to question the intelligence officials, but ultimately, he’s going to listen to them, they are going to negotiate and talk. He’s the commander in chief. He often doesn’t act as if he’s a commander in chief. He acts as the spectator and that’s the problem you see. Matt is right. Not everyone should blindly accept what intelligence officials say, and that is how the president won, but where he gets himself into a dangerous situation is he is commenting as if he’s watching this from afar, as if what he says doesn’t matter. And he is commenting a lot, but ultimately, the right thing happens and that’s what matters. He talks to these guys, he makes up with these guys and he says, when there is a problem, he tells the world, but then when it’s rectified, he also tells them that. The president also talking about the Mueller report. We saw the acting attorney general Matt Whitaker say it could be coming soon. Right now the only investigation is I think close to being completed and I hope that we can get the report from director Mueller as soon as — as possible. In your interview, the president seemed to build on that and repeat something. We have not heard this kind of specificity before, that he’s neither a subject nor a target in the investigation. It was surprising. He said rod has told him — rod Rosenstein, the attorney general has told him he’s not a target and when we pushed on that, he has told you this as well. He has told the lawyers, and was this about Mueller or the southern district of investigation into Michael Cohen? He said, that I’m not sure about, but we have had people around the president tell us that. He had not said it that way before. I have never heard this from the president’s mouth and we can’t confirm that. There has been a lot of reporting. More and more reporting in the last few weeks coming off of the press conference that Mueller could be wrapping up soon, and perhaps there are no more indictments coming that we may never see the Mueller report. What does that mean for Democrats? First thing I want to say is the only thing I believe out of that “New York Times” interview is that the president desperately wants a positive story. We heard the audio. I do believe it. On the report, it’s been interesting. If we look at the series of indictments that have been handed down, and the indictment against stone, they are all kind of bread crumbs that Mueller and his team seem to be dropping to make certain some of their reports see the light of day because they are concerned about this not being allowed to be shared with the public. It’s hard to forecast, predict that’s going to ultimately come out of this, but I trust that Democrats and Republicans are going to have a proper public hearing with these findings because they’re going to be compelled. It’s got a force of gravity of its own at this point. If there was a bombshell connected to trump, you know, really one that would, you know, make him have an indictable offense, I think we would probably know it by now, assuming of course, this is wrapping up. This, to me, seems like — Russia clearly tried to interfere in the election and a bunch of the “B” level political operatives and hangers on around Donald Trump were trying to be the man or the woman constantly engaging in, you know, these conversations, and several of them have been indicted. Several of them have done very stupid things. Did the president know about some of it? Perhaps. We’ll find out, but the thought to me, you know, for all his strengths and weaknesses, that Donald Trump was sitting there trying to get Vladimir Putin to interfere with the election so he could win just seems illogical. It seems illogical to me. Just — just a couple of quick things. When you say that we would have seen bombshells already, that’s not exactly true when only 48 hours ago we learned the current president — there was a banking campaign and it was denied. For what purpose? We don’t know what purpose. They’re including the fact that this president met with Vladimir Putin and refused to allow the transcript of that meeting to be shared with his staff. That’s an astounding thing. Astounding. We don’t know what Mueller has, first of all, but I wonder for what is working here, is something similar to bill Clinton. Back during the Monica Lewinsky thing. He came out with a hard denial and over the course of a year and the country got conditioned and it later turned out to be true. To take on what was being said about bombshell, had we known during the campaign president trump was pursuing a trump tower and not telling the the truth about it, that could have made a difference. Well, to me, everybody’s put this stack of chips on the motor port, right? That’s going to be ultimately finally, completely determined. We don’t know the answer to that, but there has been a bunch of things that have happened along the way, and you’re right. They were “B,” level people, but in “A” level positions. We wait on the report, but look what’s happened so far. 30 plus indictments. A number of people very close to the president in high level positions convicted or pled guilty to a numerous amount of crimes. That’s occurred along this way, and so I think — and all of this — the Mueller report, the president has already been irreparably damaged. This has dragged out long enough. They got a continuation. Matt Whitaker is a great guy. I don’t know if you know him. He’s a great guy, and I like rod Rosenstein. I have worked with rod. I trust them both, and I believe the president — I know the president did nothing wrong, and it would have leaked out with strzok, page, all the FBI agents that were involved. It would have leaked out. It needs to just end. We can go on. The investigation is the one that’s not going anywhere. It’s going to continue? It’s going to continue, and you have had Michael Cohen continuing to cooperate with them. You have Michael Cohen preparing to testify in some fashion on the hill and I don’t think he’s going quietly. Even though Mueller might end — even though Mueller might end, there is greater danger, according to the president’s own advisers in the southern district investigation. That is going to have to be the last word and now we honor

Rectifying Past Mistakes (8/?)
@melamungous will be happy to see an update, I’m sure! Part of the reason it had taken so long was that I was trying to figure out a few things logistically with Mary’s past in the CIA since obviously, it’s very different from show canon. But I think I managed it and also managed to bring the information about Eurus to light earlier, so we’ll see how that goes for them!
Rectifying Past Mistakes - When Mycroft gets Sherlock out of Serbia, he drops a bombshell on him he isn't quite prepared for: after years of being gone out of his life, Sherlock's ex-wife Elizabeth has reappeared, under the name Mary Morstan.
READ CHAPTER 1 | READ CHAPTER 8 | HELP ME SURVIVE? | COMMISSION ME? | BUY ME A KOFI?
His back was properly tended to and he decided to wear a loose T-shirt which had always been a bit larger on him to make sure the bandages stayed covered. The disinfectant in the wounds hurt but not as bad as getting the wounds had, and he had the feeling he would have a new set of scars to add to the many he’d had before.
Not that many of them were so old Elizabeth knew about them. Mary. He would have to get used to calling her Mary, and as many times as she slipped, she was going to have to get used to calling him Sherlock. Though it was no real secret William was his first name, just an awkward explanation would be needed. If her real name slipped at the wrong time it could be disastrous.
“Do you really want me to stay in your room with you?” she asked, curling up on the sofa with him. He had finally gotten a cup of coffee to keep, and she had her own now. Her head was resting on his shoulder and he had an arm around hers, keeping her close.
“I would, but I understand if you’re hesitant. Just please don’t leave Baker Street.”
“I wasn’t planning on doing that,” she said. “I actually quite like it here. I just thought...well, there are still secrets between us. You don’t know everything I’ve done, the reason I was at the pool...”
“Then tell me,” he said.
She had a sip of her coffee and then settled in next to him. “I suppose I should start earlier than the pool. One of my last ops was to infiltrate Moriarty’s network. The British government wasn’t the only one with concerns. But I was told not to take Moriarty out, that her Majesty had plans for him. My target was, initially, Lord Moran.”
“You were going to assassinate a sitting member of Parliament?” he asked.
She nodded. “He’s Moriarty’s right-hand man. If anyone were to know the secrets it would be him. But then it got complicated. My cover was an ex-assassin, and when I trained my scope on him, there was a red light on me. Then I got a phone call from Moran. He said I had managed to sneak up on him and that was good work. Then he offered me a job and the op changed. I was to infiltrate the organization and learn what I could. The pool was when I started sending information to your brother. When I saw Moriarty was serious about killing you...”
He felt her shudder slightly. “Did you aim at me?” he asked.
She shook her head. “I took aim at John. I knew if it all went south and you did die, I was not about to have a hand in killing you. But to save the operation, it would be best if John died as well.”
“Does he know that?”
“He does,” she said as she nodded. “It makes sense to him, so he’s been forgiving. But I began to give top-level information to my handlers and to your brother. And then Moriarty...disappeared. And I know he wheedled your brother for information.”
“Well, I knew that as well,” he said with a frown. “Why would he not want you to tell me?”
“That wasn’t the bit he wanted me to keep secret. Allowing Moriarty to have fifteen minutes alone with your sister...that was what he wanted me to keep to myself. But as I said, no more lies. I know about Eurus, and now you do too.”
He was shocked at the information. How could he not know he had a sister? “How…?” he asked.
“From what I pieced together, there were a few attempts on your life when you were a child, a missing friend of yours, a fire...it was all your sister’s doing. Your Uncle Rudy sent her away, used his government position to imprison her. Mycroft stepped into his role when he died, and he was worried that if we stayed married, you might not be so...malleable.”
“I’m going to kill him,” Sherlock said, shutting his eyes to calm himself down.
“Don’t,” she said. “Not that I’m Mycroft’s biggest fan, but in his own way, he was trying to keep you safe. It backfired spectacularly, but still.” She leaned forward, setting her coffee on the table, and then cradled his face in her hands. He could still feel the warmth from the mug on her palms, and when he looked into her eyes he began to feel calmer. “I suppose he felt it was better to protect you than to protect us.”
He nodded just slightly. “But why don’t I remember her?”
“Conditioning, I suppose,” she said, letting her thumbs run along his cheekbones slightly. “It’s not impossible to nudge along the repression of memories if it’s already started, and I don’t imagine a young mind can truly comprehend horrific acts like what your sister put you through.” She leaned in and let her hands slide away until she was able to nestle against him again, the top of her head almost under his chin. She had a hand on his chest, over his heart, and as he wrapped her in his arms the comfort was palpable.
“I want to remember,” he said.
“I can help with that, but later,” she said. “For now, let’s take care of your physical wounds and take care of the problem with Moran. Then we can conquer the issue of your sister before she gets any ideas of picking up where Moriarty left off.”
He nodded before exhaling and opening his eyes. This had all gotten vastly more complicated, but she wasn’t going to leave Baker Street, at least. If he was going to go through repressed memories and a homicidal sister and betrayal by his brother, at least he wouldn’t need to go through it alone.

Rectifying Past Mistakes (1 - 6/?)
So @melamungous just commissioned me to finish this fic and I actually had forgotten that there was a partially started chapter 6 in my files, so I went ahead and finished it and posted it up there today. It may have taken a year to finish the chapter, but I reread the story and forgot how much I loved the idea of Marylock and no Warstan. But anyway, here’s chapter 1 with a link to 6 at the top if you don’t need to refresh yourself beforehand and just want to see the new stuff. Enjoy, all!

He was not in the mood for surprises, but he could tell his dear older brother had one.
Wonderful.
They had made it to a safe house in Hungary, driving nearly all night to get to Mongolia from Lake Baikal and then flying nearly immediately upon their arrival to Budapest, and all he wanted to do was sleep. Mycroft had stayed nearly silent the entire trip, and he had tried to sleep, but he knew his brother was simply waiting and that had made him wary of succumbing to his exhaustion. Mycroft was probably quite miffed about the fact he had to leave the comfort of his home in London to come rescue him. Not that he’d had to, to be quite honest; he’d had it all handled quite well.
So maybe Mycroft hadn’t come to rescue him. Perhaps he had another motive. And if it was something he hadn’t bothered to mention during their five thousand kilometer trip it was probably something he wanted to drop on him like a bombshell, just for the sheer pleasure of watching whatever emotions crossed his face at the news.
Well, he wasn’t going to give his brother the satisfaction.
Someone had prepared food for them, he realized as they stepped inside. He could smell goulash, for a start. Potato and egg casserole as well. Perhaps stuffed cabbage rolls? And fresh bread as well. He felt his stomach grumble at the assault of delicious smells. It had been a long time since he had eaten well; having been running around the wastelands of Serbia having to scrounge for what he could to supplement what few supplies he’d managed to bring with him when he’d left Khazakhstan at that time of year had meant lean meals. He would have to try very hard not to stuff his face.
He saw Mycroft’s PA standing near the stove, checking a pot. “Just in time,” she said. “The goulash is ready, and the rest can come out of the oven shortly. But I think a bowl each should be a good starter.”
“Thank you,” Mycroft said with a nod. He had rid himself of the garish hat long before they left Serbia but kept the coat. With as much as it cost he had expected nothing less. At least he had gotten him out of the rags he had been in. Not in clothing remotely close to the quality he had been used to but it was a step up from what he had been wearing. She gestured to the table near the stove and the two of them sat down, and after a moment she brought them each a bowl of the stew and a spoon. Sherlock gripped the spoon tightly and then slowly spooned himself a spoonful of the goulash before taking a bite. It was quite excellent.
“Do you want bread?” Anthea asked him. He nodded, and she went to the counter and used a knife to cut him a thick slice, then another. She took the bread and put the slices on a plate, then took that and a small plate of butter with a knife on it to the table and set it in front of Sherlock. He picked up the knife and put some butter on the bread before dipping it into the goulash and taking a bite.
Mycroft waited until he was about to swallow before he spoke to him. “Your ex-wife is in London.”
Sherlock nearly choked on his food. Of all the things he had expected his brother to say, that had certainly not been among them. He had tried to find her for years, but she had hidden herself well. It was as though she was more ghost than person, to be quite honest. And just like a ghost she haunted his mind, usually never being far from his thoughts. To the world at large he had no prior relationships to speak of, and certainly no ex-wife. When asked about why he wore a wedding band, he said it was his grandfather’s, a lie that slipped out easily. Only one man, only John, knew the truth. But Elizabeth Christine Fisher had been…enthralling, for lack of a better term. She had been everything he ever could have wanted, everything he ever could have needed.
And he had let her slip away.
No.
He had let the man sitting in front of him rip her away from him. He needed to remember that.
He did his best to recover and keep a neutural expression. “The CIA let her off their tight leash?” he asked, tearing off more bread to dip into his goulash.
“Quite a few years ago, apparently,” he said.
“Did you know?” Sherlock asked quietly.
“No, I did not,” he said. “She’s been back on British soil since roughly 2009, when a certain consulting criminal put word out that he needed the best of the best for a project.” He had another bite of his goulash. “She was more than willing to throw her lot with him until a certain night at a certain pool, when she stared down the sight of a gun and who did she see but her ex-husband? That was when she realized that James Moriarty had plans to go after you and she wanted nothing to do with them, and so she began to play her own game.”
Sherlock scoffed silently. “And just what was that?”
“She kept her ears open and fed information to the right people when she could to keep you safe,” he said quietly. “Passed it on to my handlers anonymously. After your apparent death, she began to speak to me directly. She’s been quite…useful.”
Sherlock looked down at his bowl and said nothing. He didn’t believe that Elizabeth cared. Not after the way things ended. Not after what he had done when she had been driven off. Not after what she had done. She had to hate him, hate the very sight of him. “And I suppose you’re telling me she played personal bodyguard to the people I left behind in London?” he asked.
“She goes by Mary Morstan now, she works at John’s surgery as a nurse, and she’s insinuated herself in his life and the lives of the others in your circle of…goldfish,” he said.
Sherlock scowled slightly at Mycroft’s term for his friends. “Don’t tell me she’s made a pass at John. Or that he’s made a pass at her.”
“I’ve informed her it’s quite unnecessary,” he said. “She has, however, been the sole reason he’s chosen to stay at Baker Street. She convinced him to with her as his flat mate. He does not know the truth yet, but I imagine he will shortly after your return. I doubt this is a secret you can, or should, keep for long.”
“No, I don’t imagine we should,” he murmured. He waited for his brother to say more, but Mycroft began to concentrate on his food and he bit back a sigh. He knew he would get no more from his brother on any topic relating to why he was pulled out of his mission or what Elizabeth was up to until he was ready. But either way, he was now looking at his return to London with a slight sense of dread. He had the sinking suspicion that the reunions he was going to have with friends and his former wife were not going to go well at all.
If he was lucky, maybe he’d get through them without getting hit.
