But anyway what a beautiful world is this in which if someone ask "Are you still obsessed about that gay necromancy book?" I can answer "which one?"

I don't think much of the locked tomb would work in live action, but what I would like to see is a What We Do in the Shadows style workplace horror comedy show adaptation of John and co. leading up to the resurrection. Taika Waititi as John. Loud noises drown out their real names every time they're said aloud. You see the vision

“This is the moment. This is the chance for unlovable Mercymorn -- critical Mercymorn -- to show she is the most capable of her name. Every time you have said I did not understand the human heart, that I was unfeeling, that I only knew worship without adoration... Watch me, Augustine: I am the second saint to serve the King Undying. I will teach you a lesson in forgiveness.”

it is so funny to me that palamedes and camilla are set up as The Reasonable People in gtn and continue to be viewed though that lens by many other characters throughout the books but every single book just strengthens the hypothesis that they are actually kind of insane. like. they are absolutely unhinged. palamedes made himself a river bubble despite all existing evidence saying it was impossible to do and camilla scraped 96 tiny skull fragments off the floor and glued them together and they shared a physical form for six months and at the end of things they chose mutual destruction rather than confront the possibility of one person continuing to exist without the other. all of these things are backed up with theorems and mathematics but it does not change the fact that they’re not quite the actions of Normal People

No, but the thing is, when I was reading Harrow the Ninth, I thought it was gonna be an Orpheus situation. I thought Harrow had fucked herself up as a means to an end, that she had a plan to bring Gideon back, that the lobotomizing and everything else was her way of getting into hell to get Gideon out.
It really made me feel some type of way when it finally dawned me that she never thought that far. I mean, you'd think it makes sense that, if GOD tells you something can't be done, you accept it can't be done, BUT IT'S HARROW WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. It is INSANE to me that she just accepted she couldn't undo Gideon's death.
The trauma of living in a death cult really got to this girl. She was so awash in it she couldn't even conceive of living a life with Gideon; a more acceptable death is as far as she could go. Absolutely insane. Harrow is not Orpheus because Harrow never tried climbing back up, she couldn't look back because she never got that far, she went into hell to sit there with Gideon forever, and it just didn't occur to climb back up the stairs.

I don’t think people give enough weight to the fact that Nona is chronically-to-terminally ill in NtN, either—the reason she needs help taking care of herself, by the end of the book, is because her soul is eating her body and her body is dying. Every time she has a “tantrum”, or accesses Alecto, she uses up Harrow’s body in huge gulps—that’s why she gets sick or passes out after them. She spends most of her time in the early book thinking wistfully about how lucky she is to just have what she has and how much she wants to be useful and it’s a meditation on her awareness of her own death. Like.
Yeah, of course she needs other people to help her take care of herself. She’s disabled and actively dying.
