Why is the Dune seires so funny for absolutely no reason?? Well, sometimes Herbert's writing is so in your face with the character's thoughts that they just flat out scream insults at another character, and since we live in a society where from a young age people are generally taught to "not say it if it is not nice" the flat out unapologetic insult is so jarring to see on paper. Usually in prose insults are more flowery so to speak, even in thoughts, but then you get the narration just straight up say that the Baron Harkonnen is so fat that he has to use a mechanically flying chair to move around.
