One thing I don’t think the Fourth Wing fandom seems to acknowledge or appreciate enough is just how quickly Sawyer is willing to kill anyone who slights Violet

christ sometimes I just wanna. steal a time machine & go back & sit down next to my 9-year-old self and just like. let them pull out their pokemon card binder & gush about their holographic gyarados or whatever. I'd just smile & ask questions about motherfukcing bulbasaur & tell my kid self that I thought they were a neat person, & someday they'd find other people who thought so too.

like i'm a grown adult who honestly finds most kids stuff boring, but. damn if i could go back & hang out with my baby self & listen to them ramble...just so they knew someone was listening. i would in a heartbeat. thinking about u kid

#wouldn't roll my eyes or check my phone or get bored or nothing #I'd just listen to that little dork & smile & encourage them & let them explain how their favorite gameboy games worked #i was the kind of kid my adult self would find annoying & uninteresting but like #most of the actual adults in my childhood felt that way too. including my dang parents.#and ya know sometimes they showed it. a lot of times without realizing it. and that messes a kid up #if you don't make an effort kids WILL recognize your disinterest and lack of attention.#kids deserve to have caregivers who show interest and engagement #even when it's over stuff that adults find boring. especially then maybe #your kid doesn't have to be fun or interesting or easy or well behaved to deserve positive attention #they deserve positive attention because they are YOUR KID #if love is unconditional then DISPLAYS of LOVE and AFFECTION must also be unconditional #not something that must be earned #telling your kid that you love them is not enough. that is step one out of like a thousand #if you just tell your kid you love them but you don't demonstrate affection and interest and patience and warmth and etcetera #your kid isn't gonna feel loved! I don’t know how to say this exactly but like… fandom and show are kinda weird about Mel and Ekko and it is very much rooted in racism

#like do guys do know that ‘yay this character is perfect in every single way and the only ones with braincells<3’ is not #the progressive statement you think it is #a step up from the insane misogynoir during s1 era but still not great #it’s how nobody really focuses on mel or ekko’s characters on their own and water them down to being ‘perfect #never did anything wrong ever’. which they are but like… how to say this…#i feel arcane didn’t allow them to be fully fleshed characters #i saw this in st with lucas where he’s watered down to lumax #and gets some mvp scenes but that’s not a compensation for actually giving them proper attention and fully fleshing them out #i might be the minority but mel is a step up from ekko since she had more of an arc but again they barely fleshed it out before making her #op enough to defeat leblanc (was it leblanc?) in her own domain #like that is literally insulting to mel it’s a cop out and just reducing her to a cool moment #in compensation for not giving enough attention to her black rose arc #it wasn’t cathartic because there was no build up to those moments #arcane critical #arcane criticism #ekko #mel medarda #ekko arcane

hey. it's okay that your self-ship blog is small.

your blog doesn't need to be big or be noticed by tons of people to be considered a "good" one. your self-ship doesn't need to be noticed and praised by tons of people to be considered valid. you don't need any followers to help validate that your self-ship is good enough.

the point of self-shipping is to feel love for a character in a way that makes you happy. a romantic f/o is supposed to make you feel special and loved. a platonic f/o is supposed to make you feel like someone has your back. a familial f/o is supposed to make you feel like you have someone to come home to. a pet f/o is supposed to make you feel happy and joyful. an enemy f/o is supposed to make you feel creative.

getting a lot of notes, a ton of asks, a bunch of followers- that doesn't matter. self-shipping is not a popularity thing, it's not a trend, it's not something you should feel the need to put yourself out for.

you should do it to have fun, feel comforted, be safe, think of yourself, take care of your mental and physical health. do it because it makes you happy. do it for your f/o that'll know you better than any follower or anon ever will.
