TS2 CC downloaders & creators discussion recap

Under the cut is a recap of the feedback gathered from the comments, community replies and reblogs on this thread. Thank you for taking the time to give your input! I tried to organize everything clearly in categories, with what was most often brought up at the top of each. I hope I didn’t forget anything. If I did, or you feel I didn't do your point justice, or you didn’t get a chance to say your piece, feel free to comment (I can always make edits). The text in brackets [] is my own remarks that I'm adding to the report.

About CC in general:

The people clamored for clear swatches/pictures that show which file corresponds to which recolor, so we can pick and choose what to keep.

Many people would like creators to put their usernames in their file names (or object descriptions) so they are easier to trace back to later. Two creators had counterpoints to this. One who has a long username said: “as a creator, I don't like to be told how I should name my files (besides identifying the thing clearly, which I think we really should do). If I've made the effort to make a thing, take previews, upload it, write the post etc. Just spend 5 seconds of your life renaming the file to whatever is convinient to you, I'm not going to add 16 characters to each of my files to include my username (I still think that longer names = longer loading time).” The other creator said: “As a creator, I don't want to put my full username in tooltips (just SB) because some hair names are quite long and I do not have the time to re tooltip the names.”

On the topic of file names, many people agreed that creators should not put special characters and spaces in their file names, to optimize loading times. One creator clarified: “the filenames should always have _ instead of spaces, as apparently this allows the game to load them easier/faster [...] underscores should be the only kind of special character in them” [use the Bulk Rename Utility - see tutorial by @ilovethesims2cc].

Still on file names, a Mac user said they dislike when file names are too long because apparently long file names are enough for Macs to shit themselves [sorry if I misunderstood, never had a Mac].

Several people mentioned disliking poorly optimized CC (one person listed: “bulky for no reason, unused bump maps, comically large or duplicated textures, things that could easily be repo'd but are not”), one person pointed out: “There is no reason a TS2 object needs a texture bigger than 1024x1024 unless it’s a special case like a skybox.”

One person said they dislike when a CC post lacks basic text info about what the download is. On this note, another person said they dislike when a creator isn’t clearly stating what mesh their recolors are for.

Two people asked that creators state their stuff’s polycounts.

Two people said they dislike when the recolors for a piece of CC are only available merged together, as they want to be able to easily choose which they want to keep. On the other hand, someone who “takes all recolors anyway” said they would like creators to offer a merged version of their recolors [you can merge CC to reduce loading times using LazyDuchess’s CC Merger].

One person recommended avoiding just using “here” as hyperlink text, but instead describing what you are linking to, so that if the link gets broken we still have a chance to find the thing. In the same vein, they and another person advised against reliance on an image alone to give info about the download. As we know, images can disappear, and a Google search won’t lead to the item if your post has no text that Google can detect.

About the images that creators do show, one person mentioned a download not having a proper preview as their pet peeve. On previews, two people recommended that the piece of CC be clearly visible and the main focus. Two people said they like when a preview of the item is included in the archive (“helpful when looking through old CC”).

One person said they appreciate when creators give two download links to two different hosting platforms, in case one of them ever breaks.

One person asked for creators to always test their stuff before uploading [it should go without saying but we do see egregious things to this day]. Their pet peeve is “CC with obvious issues that can’t have been tested properly in game! Don’t just look at it in build mode or bodyshop, actually use the item in live mode. Have a Sim wear the clothing or use the object!” They pointed out as an example that some CC lights don’t light up. Someone else said: “if there are minor imperfections, that's ok! But let your downloaders know what to expect.”

One person said that they enjoy reading detailed descriptions of CC: “Share your inspos, what went wrong, tag the pieces you used if you are Frankenmeshing because I might want those items too! Creating and sharing is deeply personal, don't be afraid to share a part of who you are in your downloads if you feel comfortable doing so.” [If I may offer a slight counterpoint, I think detailed technical info + proper crediting should always be frontloaded. And then, in a separate paragraph, you can write about how you made this because your grandma used to wear something similar on those cool autumn days back when you were 6. But please, don’t expect your audience to have to parse through your life story to get the basic info they need to even understand what the download is.]

On subfolders: one person mentioned that they dislike when individual files are placed in subfolders; someone else said they don’t like many subfolders within an archive; a third person said that when downloading a ‘bulk’ CC pack, they dislike when each item has its individual subfolder (unless the object has dozens of recolors).

One person said they dislike downloads that include a large number of things that aren’t all part of a single coherent set.

One person said they dislike gift/mega packages that don’t give the possibility to pick and choose what you’re downloading.

One person asked that creators compressorize their CC, unless there is a good reason for not doing so, reason that should be stated [yes please! Use jfade’s Compressorizer, found on this page].

One person said they like when creators who make recolors give a link to the mesh they are recoloring whenever possible, even if the mesh is included.

One person mentioned appreciating when creators include base PSDs in their downloads [they were talking about hair specifically but I suppose it can be done for other things too].

About Bodyshop CC specifically:

Many people mentioned disliking when a piece of clothing lacks a fat morph (as one person put it: ✨“its literally bigotry”✨ [iconic]), or has a fat morph that's blatantly a quickly WSO’d afterthought. Someone said: “Absurdly shaped/clipping fat morphs that were most probably never tested in game before uploading are pretty annoying”; someone else said: “I make male content and am constantly flabbergasted by some of the UM Top fat morphs that make no attempt to align with Bottom items, or look completely ridiculous. [...] WSOs are a great starting point, but that's just it: a starting point" [I couldn’t agree more]. One person added that clothes should also have preg morphs.

One person really wants tooltips. Someone else further asked that creators give actually helpful tooltips to their recolors to make it easier to identify which recolor corresponds to which file [you can use CatOfEvilGenius’s Tooltip utility to give your recolors tooltips that correspond to their file names].

One person mentioned gaps in meshes being their #1 pet peeve [putting this in this section because I’m assuming they’re referring to Bodyshop CC].

One person asks that creators give their accessories unique BIN numbers to make them layerable with other accessories.

The same person would like creators to remember to delete the inapplicable ages in their accessories [this also goes for hairs].

The same person also appreciates when creators make custom thumbnails for their accessories, “especially for accessories that are not on the face”.

The same person said: “Accessories that are 'part of the sim' (like ears, tails, etc.) should be showerproof”. Another person had the same request: “Body part accessories (such as animal ears, tails, horns, wings) should be available for all types of clothing.”

One person appreciates when hair meshers specify if their hair is animated or not.

One person would like to see more hairs for toddlers and children.

For geneticized skintones, one person said they find it helpful when the genetic number is indicated in the file name.

About Build & Buy CC specifically: 

Several people said they dislike when CC objects are set to an absurd price (like a couch for 1 simoleon) [this can be fixed with Pick’N’Mix’s Object Relocator], and two people added that they dislike when an object’s price isn’t congruent with their stats (like when an expensive bed has a low energy score). A creator further said: “whats worse is sometimes items are cloned from a very expensive item, and then the creator has reduced the stats shown in the description, but the bhav still has very high ratings, or sometimes it can be the other way around, an item might have been cloned from a cheap one, then their displayed stats are set to 10 but the bhavs still have low ratings”.

Three people said that they really appreciate when creators state which category their object is in and what the price is. One person said they appreciate when creators give info about how their object functions (“Is it just deco? Does it have hobby enthusiasm?” etc.). For complex objects, they like when there’s a video to show how it works. 

One person said they dislike when creators place objects in categories that don’t make sense. Someone said more specifically that they like when objects are put in categories other than deco/sculptures or deco/misc.

One person said they dislike blank object descriptions or object descriptions that were left the same as that of the Maxis object that the piece of CC was cloned from.

One person said they don’t like when objects aren’t enabled for quarter-tile placement [can be fixed in simPe or with the Object Relocator].

One person said they dislike non-functional objects (like a sofa that’s a sculpture).

One person brought up two experiences they and their friend had with CC beds that didn’t have unique GUIDs and therefore would override other beds. In the same vein, someone else said they dislike when a creator forgets to mention that their CC is not custom but default and will override something in the game.

One person encourages creators to learn about the TXMT settings of objects (e.g. should an object be reflective?) and praised @pforestsims and @shastakiss for their CC in that regard. Another person said they dislike when an object is too shiny, which is also a TXMT setting.

One person said they dislike “transparent cut out textures”. [I quote because I’m clueless about this:] “I’ve seen this a lot on TS3 or other game conversions, where the texture has been imported without enabling transparency, and you get ugly squares around draw handles and such. Import the texture as DXT 5 and enable AlphaTest in the TXMT.”

One person said they like when 4t2 conversions have several subsets.

The Mac user among us would like creators to resize their walls and floors for Macs, otherwise they show up grey in game.

About lots specifically:

You were sick of watching your boyfriend play video games. It had been two hours of him sitting at the computer, talking into his headset, probably yelling at Taeyong or whoever it was he was playing with this time. You hadn’t seen Donghyuck all week, since his schedule was so filled that it was best he stayed at the dorms instead of coming home to your shared apartment.

So naturally, you missed his presence. Your heart longed for his warm and bubbly smile, his angelic voice, kind heart, and beautiful mind. He lit up your life, and he had ever since you’d met him. Your number-one pet-peeve about him? Sometimes, he spent more time with his wonderful pixelated guns and killings than he did with you.

If he was having fun, then you knew you shouldn’t stop him. He had been working hard all week. If this was what he wanted to do with his time off, then so be it.

But I’m your girlfriend, a small, vulnerable voice whispered in the back of your mind. You missed the way his arms felt around you, and how his soft hair felt like silk when you ran your fingers through it. He had been gone all week, and when you had come home, you’d found him in this exact same spot. He’d given you a smile, and nothing more. That was fine. It hurt, but it was fine.

Plus, the entire week away from him had made you quite sexually frustrated. The first part of the sentence sounded nice, but the second part didn’t. He hung up the phone and swiveled around in his chair to face you.

You weren’t sure whether to feel sad or angry. He chose video games over you, his own girlfriend. How were you supposed to take that? Did he not want to talk to you?

“I know, I’m a jerk. I should have said something to you. Who does that?” Your boyfriend’s voice spoke up, and his expression was apologetic.

“I’m your girlfriend, remember?”

His face fell, and your heart broke. The sight of him upset had the same effect on you as it did him.

“I told Taeyong that I’d play two hours of the game with him today if he didn’t force me to shut up about you for the rest of the week.” Now, that was surprising. His talking about you got so annoying to the other members, yet he refused to stop mentioning you? This had taken a turn. Your heart melted a bit. “I missed you so much.”

In an instant, you were in his embrace, face buried into his shoulder as he held you with everything he had. His arms pulled you flush against him, keeping you there as his lips lingered on the top of your head. “You should have gotten up and said ‘hi,’ at least,” you said, your voice having softened.

“I should have,” he agreed. “Instead, I just whined about how you were home and I was forced to continue the game.” His voice was sweet and refreshing to hear once again. His honey-coated tone warmed your heart.

“I think I was too busy sulking to actually pay attention to anything you were saying,” you admitted with a laugh. You felt kind of bashful now that you knew how he hadn’t really prioritized Taeyong over you. Well, kind of, but for a reason that was actually kind of sweet.

His phone rang, and he picked up, just as he’d promised. Your heart kind of hurt. He was just hugging you, and now you were no longer in his embrace.

“Can we make this quick, please?” he asked into the phone. You didn’t hear Taeyong’s reply, but either way, he was done playing. You had missed him all week, and now you intended to get what you wanted.

You sat impatiently, listening to Donghyuck’s replies, which didn’t make total sense, due to you not hearing Taeyong’s words.

Donghyuck was sitting in his swiveling desk chair, and his legs were apart as he replied tiredly to his hyung’s words about the video game. You couldn’t help but notice how his thick thighs were hugged tightly by his skinny jeans. He leaned back in his chair, leaving the bulge at the crotch of his jeans exposed due to his parted legs. His thighs looked so strong and so...dear god, you were getting turned on by Donghyuck’s thighs.

But when you put your hand directly on his crotch, lightly squeezing the bulge, he let out a sudden moan, which he managed to decently play off as a cough. His eyes searched yours, trying to read into your motives. Instead, he saw a frown on your face. You lightly dragged your fingertips over his crotch, knowing it would affect him.

For the second time, he held the phone away from his face. He leaned forward a bit and whispered in your ear, “If I have to stop what I’m doing, then you won’t be able to walk for a week.” His voice was dark and threatening, turning you on.

Predator/Carnivorous Dæmon Profiling: some of my long-winded thoughts

One of my biggest pet peeves in the dæmon community is the characterization of prey animals as being gentle/good, and predator animals being mean/bad. This is not an everybody-does-this kind of thing, by the way, but it crops up sometimes. It’s an easy trap to fall into (heck, I’ve done it before), and this isn’t an accusation towards people who personality-type this way. This is mostly to help A) newer or confused dæmons, B) start a discussion, and C) let me rant.

            I think one of the largest hurdles when dealing with characterizing predator dæmons is working through what it means for a dæmon to be carnivorous. To best do this, let’s look at why some animals evolved to eat meat rather than plant matter. In the simplest terms, meat, and especially organ meat, are incredibly nutrient-rich compared to pretty much all plant matter. Herbivores spend the vast majority of their days foraging for food, eating that food, and then repeating the process. If you’ve ever had a pet like a goat, cow, or horse, you know how long they’ll spend grazing, if you let them. While herbivores expend comparatively little effort meeting their nutritional requirements, the payoff is also relatively low; that’s why they’re forced to spend so much time eating. Consider, then, that while herbivores trend towards low risk—low reward, carnivores trend towards moderate/high risk—high reward. When examined in this way, it’s easier to see that predatory/carnivorous dæmons are people who work based on efficiency above all else. While I noted the possibility of “high risk”, what carnivorous animals really want is to put in the least amount of effort for the highest amount of payoff. This is why they frequently target the old, the young, the sick, the weak, and the slow; if a carnivorous animal can avoid putting in excess effort, they will. Also, fun fact! Most herbivorous animals can and will eat meat if it is made available to them. They might not be able to eat much of it, but they can digest at least a little bit. It’s actually quite common for herbivores to eat meat (birds, rodents, frogs, lizards, even carrion), so if you want to put some kind of moral judgment dæmon-wise on carnivores because they eat other animals, it’s going to have to extend it to herbivores, too.   

            When it comes to profiling dæmons, I understand that a certain amount of anthropomorphizing animals is required to do so accurately. However, I think sometimes people in the dæmon community take this to the extreme. I do get it—when you’re anthropomorphizing one animal, you’re obviously going to anthropomorphize them all, so the circle of life previously untethered from morality comes out a little more murder-y. Here’s the thing though: there is no such thing as sadism in the animal kingdom. The closest thing I can think of is animals that envenomate their prey and then follow them until they die so they can eat them (like Komodo dragons), but even in those cases this is, again, a case of a predator using the lowest risk action to gain the highest reward. And like, I do get it. Animals dying is sad! It’s violent, and brutal, and often extremely bloody! We all feel bad for Bambi, but that isn’t very helpful when it comes to dæmon profiling.

I frequently see predators characterized as vicious, when what they actually are is vulnerable. Predators aren’t competitive over territory and breeding rights because it’s fun, they’re competitive because if they lose their territory they will likely die. Without a safe area for them to live and hunt, they will probably starve or be killed, so when predators act aggressively towards other animals or people, they’re usually doing so out of desperation. Predators in particular have to be extremely careful about what fights they pick; as a general rule, they want to avoid conflict. Serious injuries are a death sentence to predators in a way that they aren’t even to prey animals, because predators are on a ticking clock to heal fast enough that they can hunt again, or they’ll starve to death. If a lynx were to somehow break its leg, that’s it, that animal’s life is over, so if a predator is willing to actually fight over a resource, they’re doing so because they have no other choice. The general list of what predatory animals will fight over can usually be summed up as follows: breeding rights, cubs/babies (if they have them), food, territory. These are the essentials of the animal kingdom, so to speak. To put this into perspective for why this list matters in regard to dæmons, people with predator dæmons will not be constantly aggressive, or evil, or cruel. For the most part, predator dæmons are very conflict-adverse, and will only involve themselves if said conflict directly affects them and/or something that holds an extremely high value for them.

            Now, that being said, most predators are also opportunists. A pack of wolves will go after a human like they would a deer because humans are, generally speaking, relatively easy to kill. While we may attach a moralistic perspective on that killing because as humans, we relate to said prey, these hypothetical wolves are just trying to meet their needs in the way that is the least strenuous and least likely to result in them being injured. This is a characteristic which often gets labeled selfishness—which I’m not denying that it can be—but which I think might be better labeled as individualism. I’ve seen people describing carnivorous dæmons as taking care of themselves at the expense of others, but often times what they’re referring to is an anthropomorphized approach to carnivorous behavior. I personally think this is a bit lazy and doesn’t get at the heart of what predator dæmons are like, because predator dæmons do invest in themselves above others (especially for animals that are lone hunters), but it isn’t because they kill other animals; it’s because, as I mentioned before, they’re inherently vulnerable. I’ve seen people refer to predator’s natural prey drive (such as tigers in zoos stalking patrons, or wolves overkilling livestock) as a sign that people with predatory dæmons are constantly looking to fuck someone else over, but the reality is that predatory animals (and therefore dæmons) are simply extremely aware of how vulnerable they are, and will take every occasion to meet their own needs, especially if that can happen without them needing to put themselves at risk.

            So how do we translate this into dæmonism? Mostly with a lot of generalizations and patience. Generally speaking, carnivorous/predatory dæmons are conflict-averse, efficiency-based, need/interest-focused people. Despite the aggression stereotype, most predator dæmons just want to be left alone, and will likely only engage if they feel like or someone/something extremely important to them is being threatened (this is slightly less true for animal forms that are group hunters, as they have a wider support network to fall back on and can manage more risky behavior). Predators are also efficient animals, and dæmons of the same kind will reflect that. This means that people with predator dæmons won’t usually be inclined to expend effort unless they’re actively gaining something of high value from it. This doesn’t mean that people with predator dæmons can’t be active, it just means they aren’t likely to take on a challenge without a sufficient reward waiting for them at the end. Predators dæmons are also going to be need/interested-focused, which I tend to translate into predator dæmons having a few categories of things that are actively important to them; it might be their career, their family, their hobby, whatever. These categories tend to overlap, and become the main concerns for people with predator dæmons’ happiness. Everything outside of those specific concerns don’t matter overly much to people with predator dæmons. If something doesn’t directly affect a person with a predator dæmon, they probably don’t care. This is where the selfish characterization comes in, and while it isn’t wrong, I think it lacks the awareness that the downside to this blasé attitude predator dæmons carry towards things outside their interest is that, should that person lose any of the things they consider vital to their own life, they will experience a huge amount of upheaval and distress. This is what makes them vulnerable. A lion needs to eat, you know? And if a predator dæmon can’t feed themselves (metaphorically speaking), they’ll waste away. These three traits (conflict-aversity, efficiency, need/interest-focus) all tie into one another, and present a person who will likely only take on challenges in their own life if they can either do so without significant risk to their personal comfort, or see the potential reward as worth significant possible loss. So, it’s a somewhat contradictory personality that stems from wanting the best for the lowest price.

            Just some disclaimers, since anyone who’s read this far deserves them! Not all predator dæmons are going to meet this personality type exactly. Predators higher on the food chain, and predators that hunt in groups are going to be more prone to risky behavior than lone hunters, and predators lower on the food chain, generally speaking. There are also outliers, as with any broad category (fisher cats have successfully killed lynxes, those little bastards do not fuck around). A lot of omnivores also get stuck in the carnivore/predator category, when they can, but don’t always follow the same personality type (some bears do, like black bears, but not all). So, while I hope this essay/rant helps people, I also hope that anyone who reads this understands that personality-typing dæmons is complex, so if you feel like this doesn’t apply to a form, don’t worry about it. Or, hey, reply to this and let me know. If anyone thinks I’m completely wrong, I’d also be curious about your take on predator/carnivorous dæmons.

Okay can we talk about ACOSF???? Bc on booktok all I’m seeing is so much negativity about how people don’t like feysand or don’t like nesta but?? I read this book, loved it, thought nesta grew SO much and we got to see feysand from a different POV which gave them depth! Plus a baby!!! I can talk about it forever

We can absolutely talk about ACOSF. I have thoughts, feelings, opinions and this is going to get long. And, uh, any of those super negative critiques:

Alright, alright, alright, so initial feelings? I enjoyed it a lot. Like, way more than I thought I would honestly because going in I was like eh, Nessian, but I loved Nesta’s character development and the flirt-to-roast ratio with her and Cassian and every single time Cassian called her Nes or God help me ARCHERON, my soul reached another plane of existence. Don’t even get me started on that one time she called him General. The noise I made was not audible to human ears. 

That said, there were some parts that I was like: oh ok, that’s happening. So, because I cannot function without organization, let’s break down some of the major things that happened into a LIST WITH OPINIONS ATTACHED

Sexual Tension Fucking fuck, these two idiots. Pining after each other while both desperately wanting someone, anyone, to be like — please stay in bed and cuddle me all night?!?! Idiots. Both of them flush with power and the ability to make people legit terror before them and they’re so goddamn soft with each other. Which is kind of hysterical because they are also able to rip each other to shreds? Oh my God, some of those fight scenes, I just—my heart was in my throat. And I do not want to hear a single word of how CASSIAN IS MEAN TO NESTA? Were we reading the same book, internet? Bro is In Love. From the G E T. 

Which leads us to—

S O L S T I C E  God, rip my romantic-loving heart out of my body. Learning what was in the box from the solstice before made me screech and then the music. THE MUSIC. Can we talk about Cassian, feared general, dude who has canonically lost track of how many people he has killed, cornering an ENTIRE ORCHESTRA to recreate music for Nesta? I just—f u c k. It was a lot. A lot. And then we circle back around to how soft they were and there’ll never be another and I am going to have to pace around a bit. I loved it. I love them. I nearly screamed when it took Nesta a few more chapters to realize it was a mating bond, and then Cassian just bolted because he also couldn’t quite deal with it, and I am still not super sold on the mating bond, like, as a thing, but I kind of went into this book pretty certain this was going to happen, so...good. Also them arguing by the Sidra, oof. 

There was a lot of sex in this book. I knew there was going to be a lot of sex in this book. I must have told my husband four different times, “God, there is a lot of sex in this book.” Some of it was good. Some of it was kind of cloying in its descriptions. I genuinely lol’ed at Nesta fantasizing about being straight up railed by both Cassian and Azriel. (Why was that in there? Still don’t really know, felt a lot like very obvious fan service, but it was also kind of hysterical.)

JEALOUSY DIDN’T MAKE ME WANT TO RIP MY EYES OUT I hate jealousy plots. HATE THEM. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves in relationship writing, but I was super into it here??? Cassian cutting in on the dance and TAKING DANCING LESSONS. It was good. I enjoyed it. 

Nesta’s Power Yo. YO. This was really cool. She was terrifying and out of control, while also learning how to be in control and intimidating and I was like YES, GET IT. When Rhys flew into the House and Nesta was just wrapped in silver flames, that was super cool. Also Rhys being freaked out by her? Kind of bad ass, honestly. But. But! I wish it was explored even more. I wish we got to learn what she could really do and the extent to which she could do it, because I thought it was a fascinating possibility to parallel Nesta to Feyre and I don’t really think we got that. Like, Feyre Cursebreaker — with power given from all the High Lords, this bringer of new life and a fresh start for all the courts. Then her sister — with power stolen from the Cauldron itself and death at her fingertips. With all the comparisons of Feyre and Nesta, I really figured we’d be gunning towards that eventually ESPECIALLY with Feyre being pregnant, and the idea of life in that capacity. Also, what was the point of Lucien saying “Gods help you all” or whatever he said when he was watching Nesta train if...nothing ever really came from that? We’ll circle back around to that in a second, during what will be my ending-based soliloquy, but first let’s talk about—

Feyre Being Pregnant, Why That Kind of Felt Like Twilight and Why I Get Why Rhys Was Being an Idiot Listen, part of the reason I wanted to read this book was for what I assumed would be the Feysand crumbs we’d get. Most of me was convinced that this book would not take place in Velaris and I was mentally prepared for that. Color me pleasantly surprised when it wasn’t and we got an IC feast. But. But! Part two! I’ve mentioned how I’m never really here for...pregnancy being like this ultimate endgame, and I understand why Feysand wanted a kid and I get it, I do. Just the whole thing with she’s going to DIE felt very Bella Swan, was kind of dramatic in mela-sort of way and I TOTALLY GET WHY RHYS KEPT THE WINGS A SECRET. Was it idiotic? Yeah, of course. But I don’t think we talk about his trauma enough, really. Those fifty years under the Mountain are not just gong to disappear, and I cannot really blame him for totally losing his mind at even the idea of Feyre dying. This is not a dude who is trying to control Feyre. I’ve never felt that way about Rhys. At all. This is a dude who has already lost ALL of HIS control and is desperately trying to hang on. He’s already had his entire world shattered six ways to Sunday, this was obviously going to destroy him. Aside from, y’know, straight up killing him too. (That was dumb, guys.) And I think telling Feyre would have made it REAL for Rhys, which he obviously could not cope with. Was I surprised that Feyre’s pregnancy was such a big plot point in a book that was supposed to be super Nessian focused? Yeah, for sure. But also—I like established relationships and Feyre and Rhys could not stop making eyes at each other. Not totally here for the deadly pregnancy trope, not totally here for using family as a trauma recovery, but sort of understand it. 

Training, Valkyries and Friendship Bracelets Like I said, I thought this book was gong to take place in the Illyrian camps way more than it did, but I L O V E D the training sessions. Adored Nesta, Emerie and Gwyn’s friendship and how often they teamed up to snark Cassian and Azriel. I was painfully here for all three of them together and the sleepover in the House warmed the cockles of my cold, dead heart. Especially when the bracelets proved so important during the Blood Rite. Which—let’s talk about the Blood Rite. Didn’t expect that!! Was pleasantly surprised by that!! Nesta drawing the literal line in the dirt made me fist pump the air. (And is another parallel to Feyre and her taking inspiration from old Fae legends, but that’s neither here nor there, whatever I’m not here to harp on missed opportunity.) I thought it was really important that all three of them got to showcase their own power too, and how they worked SO WELL together and I was just really glad that there was such focus on this sisterhood outside of literal sisterhood. I thought those relationships were so well done and it was just such a joy to read about their growth and strength and I loved them. Am I here for Gwyn and Azriel? Maybe. Possibly more here for Emerie and Mor? Maybe maybe. 

The House I thought it was Amren, for a very long time. Like secretly helping Nesta still and I was really into that idea and really into Amren not being able to totally let Nesta go and I wasn’t really into Nesta bowing to Amren. 

THE ENDING Oh my God, so much happened. So quickly. With some occasionally jarring scene cuts. The Blood Rite surprised me, but I was not surprised by Cassian getting ensnared by the crown. Fully expected something like that to happen, was still making ridiculous noises when he tried to turn the dagger on himself instead of killing Nesta. LOST MY MIND WHEN NESTA UNMADE THE QUEEN. I’m still sort of...confused about the Trove, though. I know there are a fair number of hanging plot threads that are gong to lead into other stories, but I just—I don’t know, when they were talking about the High King and everything I sort of thought they were leading towards Nessian being that. I know the whole IC was very into Rhys and thematically it made sense, but also let’s consider—I don’t want that? Rhys needs to get his shit in order and his own Court to calm the fuck down and again I think the potential for LORD OF THE BASTARDS and LADY DEATH to ascend to this position of power and lead the world into this new era was there and I just, I don’t know, I liked the idea of it. Particularly when so many people have referred to Nesta as a Queen. That whole thing in the prison happened, y’know? I’m not sure (read: I’m fairly positive) that won’t happen now, especially because Nesta gave up so much of her power to save Feyre. And I know that’s a TALKING POINT™ but also...I was pretty cool with that? Once it came out that Feyre was going to die, it made sense that Nesta would be the one to save her—to twist death again, and kind of seize control of it. Granted, I’m still a little confused by the Trove and what everyone’s going to do with all that power, but Nesta saving Feyre was this perfect sort of wrap up. For me, at least. I think they balance each other out in a lot of respects, and that was really the last step of Nesta’s growth. Also, uh, back on my Feysand ‘ish and Rhys screaming and crying and trying to get to Feyre? o o o f. Also, also, RHYS BOWING TO NESTA. I CANNOT TELL YOU THE LAST TIME I CRIED AT A BOOK, BUT I CRIED AT THIS BOOK. RHYS, BABY, I ADORE YOU. 

Nesta Finding Herself I just really—liked it. I think sometimes in these sorts of stories we get people who are so focused on characters being “the bitch” and having an edge and we have a tendency to think that’s what makes them STRONG. Nah, that ain’t it, son. I don’t want to read about someone being a dick just for sake of being a dick. Nesta was NOT IN A GOOD PLACE. She was self-imploding and destroying herself and getting her POV made it blatantly clear that she thought she deserved that. That she truly believed she didn’t deserve anyone else. And as much as the romance was good and the friendships were fantastic, the key to this story was Nesta (as cheesy as it sounds) learning to love herself. To find worth in her own self. Reading about Nesta simply learning to want to live again, for no one except herself, was really, really good and I think, for the most part, well done. Which is why it makes sense that Nesta gives up some of her power. This isn’t about being A BAD BITCH, PATENT PENDING. This is about love, and joy and embracing your own faults. I get the disappointment over Nesta losing her power. I do. But I’m not sure she totally did? Maybe that’s too positive, or too naive, or something, but...whatever. 

Other things that I really enjoyed, include but are not limited to: Cassian having allergies Nesta absolutely decimating Tamlin. And Tamlin’s just like...a lion all the time now, huh? And, uh, also is Tamlin Gwyn’s dad??? Like, is that a thing? Am I crazy?  Nesta telling Elain to fuck off (Also, Elain—darling, I wish you got more character development. Elain is to SJM what Belle is to me in CS fic. Sometimes I think she just forgets about her.) Azriel calling out Cassian for getting BLOWN at the dining room table Azriel getting Nesta a Solstice gift and then THEY HUGGED Nesta wanting an over the top mating ceremony. Get it, girl.  Feyre going full on Court of Nightmares in the Hewn City Nesta making it down the steps

Other things I thought we’d get more of and just...didn’t Whatever the fuck Lucien has been up to, and more on the continent with Vassa and Juran More stuff in Illyria Reaction to the trio in the Blood Rite Amren and Nesta reconciling. I know Nesta apologized, but Amren kind of got on my nerves.  Nesta understandably criticizing the IC and their tendency to get a little sanctimonious.  THREE SISTER PEAKS. THREE BAT BOYS. THREE VALKYRIE. WHAT IS IT SARAH? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

What’s a Batman story you wish someone else would write for you instead of writing yourself??

Gotta tell you, I got super excited when I got this ask, because there are so many things!! That I would love to see happen!! That I’ll never get around to writing!! So uh, strap in because this is gonna be a big ol’ list :) I’m gonna organize these so that it starts with gen ideas and then switches to darker ones (otherwise, really in no particular order). Also, because it’s me, many of these are Dick-centric.

1. First up is a Batfam Hogwarts AU, but with the specifications that Dick is a Slytherin, Jason is a Ravenclaw, Tim is a Slytherin, and Damian is a Hufflepuff. Skalidra actually made an amazing post about this that I agree with so fucking much, and I want a fic that does this justice.

2. Batbros are actually blood bros. I know there are a couple of these already out there, but not the way I picture it in my head, so here you go: Bruce knows about Dick while the kid is growing up, visits the circus any time it’s in town, takes Dick out for ice cream & shit like that, but Dick thinks this is just some family friend his parents like him hanging out with. It’s not until Mary and John fall that Dick learns the truth about his parents. For Tim – Janet never really wanted a kid, so when she and Bruce sleep together (up to you to figure out why) and got pregnant, she was like “okay brucie as soon as this pops out you can keep it” which, once Tim was born, Bruce did. Jason can go so many ways, so up to you!

3. Transgender Dick!! Yes, these are already out there. Yes, I want so many more! Give me the struggle of coming to the realization while amongst Gotham’s high society. Give me extra supportive Bruce or a Bruce that just can’t wrap his head around the concept and absolutely fails to be in any way a good parent of a trans kid. Or take the extra step and give me a non-binary Dick!!! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one of those, and as an enby individual, I really would love to.

4. Jason as a teacher. Do whatever the fuck you want with that, but I want to see Jason teaching literature. Still in the superhero world, no alternate world where Batman isn’t a thing. I want a Jason who’s been Robin and died and come back and been Red Hood and is a teacher.

5. I had a dream about Dick being a clone, and then an idea popped up behind it: In the Young Justice cartoon world, the Light makes another clone of Superman. But this time, the human DNA they used to stabilize the Kryptonian part isn’t Lex Luthor’s DNA, but Batman’s! That Superman-Batman clone is Dick. While Conner gets rescued by the YJ team, Dick (or whatever title CADMUS gave him, like how Conner was just called “The Superboy”) isn’t found, and is trained to fight against the team of young heroes as the Light’s weapon. Dick gets captured eventually and Bruce&Clark find out about their clone baby. Throw in some Superbat if you feel like it, or just Two Bros And A Baby. Either way, I would kill for this.

6. Ok you know how at one point or another Damian, Jason, and Cass were all members of the League of Assassins? Well, what if there was overlap? I want the three of them working for the League and knowing each other. I don’t know if this even works out at all but I just think this would be kinda cool, especially if it includes Bruce finding out about Damian or about Jason being alive and gaining a daughter along the way.

7. While we’re on the subject of League of Assassins, all four of the boys work for the League!! Do with this what you will, I merely present the concept to you.

8. Secret Agents. Just…just give me them as spies. Pls.

9. Dead Robins Club that ACTUALLY INCLUDES DICK BECAUSE Y’KNOW HE DIED. It’s a pet peeve of mine, when people write these kind of fics and include Tim and Steph (neither of which actually died) but not Dick, even though he did die for at least a couple minutes. Please stop ignoring Dick’s trauma guys, I beg of you. There’s one amazing fic between Jason, Damian, and Dick, and I want so many more of stuff like that.

10. Greeks/Roman Gods AU where Dick is the God of Death and king of the Underworld instead of the springtime god. There’s a really great jaydick fic out there that has this, but it’s abandoned, and I rally really want more of a Dick like this.

11. AU in which Bruce is the youngest member of the Justice League, and is still the badass leader he is in canon. No one in the League knows the truth, but it’s not like Bruce ever said I’m in my 20s or older, he just. Never mentioned he just graduated high school and is working on his accelerated bachelor’s degree.

12. A fic that addresses the fact that Dick has, in canon, been buried alive. I might one day write this, but I have a lot of projects that I do know I’m going to write, so this is wayyyyyyyyyyyy down the line, long enough that I’d be very happy to see someone write it instead. Bonus points if it’s a fic about Dick and Jason, and the fact that Dick killed Joker also comes up.

13. Tamaranean!Dick. And I actually have a whole word/plot for something like this that I’m never gonna write so if you wanna do this hmu I have THOUGHTS

Ok boys and girls and enbys we’re about to hit the dark shit so turn back if you don’t want to have to read it. You’ve been warned.

14. Ancient Rome AU in which Bruce is a senator and owns his robins as slaves (gladiator-wise and otherwise) who try to earn their freedom but Bruce likes using them too much (both for himself and in gaining control over others, like sending one of them to seduce somebody to gain leverage or steal something or what have you) and so he keeps changing what will gain them their freedom.

15. Auction fic where Dick is drugged and kidnapped and auctioned off to a bunch of villains. Yes, fics like this exist. Yes, I would like Many More.

16. Brusladick where Bruce has some Bad Thoughts about Dick but can’t bring himself to act on them, but he wouldn’t mind letting someone else do it, and who better than Slade Wilson, who absolutely wants to fuck Dick. So Bruce sets up a camera in the room and gets off to all the hard shit being done to Dick, but Slade breaks their agreement a little and tells Dick that Bruce is watching.

17. In an ABO universe, Dick is an omega. The world is pretty modern overall, of course there will always be some level of sexism but it’s not a large issue. But there’s this far-right terroristic-type group that thinks omegas are just good for ding as they’re told and being bred and have made it their mission to “fix” omegas who think they deserve equal rights, and they get ahold of Dick, sending a video to Bruce saying they’re return Dick when he’s better. For some reason Bruce and Co can’t find Dick for a long time, and by the time they do Dick’s severely traumatized and been conditioned into obedience and submission towards alphas.

18. In the Young Justice cartoon world, while Kaldur is undercover in season 2, an interaction with Deathstroke reveals something horrible about Nightwing’s past, and Kaldur has to act like hearing these graphic, awful things about his friend. After it’s all over, he goes to Dick and mentions Deathstroke saying something and Dick kind of shuts down and says like “How many people heard what he said?” There is a twitter thread between me and a friend on this very subject if you need inspiration ;)

20. Bruce is hella abusive. Dick lets himself be Bruce’s outlet so he won’t hurt the others. This, of course, comes to light. Yes, shit like this exists. But I pose you a question – is there ever too many? And has it been done by you yet?

Papa Nihil:

~If he’s trying to listen to a record or music and someone just turns it off without asking. Back in the day the best way to lose a finger to Nihil was trying to touch his 8-track player. 

~When EVERYTHING has to be done online. Not even just because he’s old, but who has time to make passwords and accounts for EVERYTHING? Sometimes he just WANTS TO WATCH A MOVIE WHY DOES HE HAVE TO SIGN IN FOR EVERYTHING?

~ Absolutely hates it when you say Hi or a greeting to someone, they look at you, AND KEEP WALKING AWAY WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING! Nihil can be very friendly and sociable on good days. So when his friendliness is ignored it pisses him off. Not to mention it’s just rude as hell. 

~ Being woken up for any reason besides the church or room being on fire. He gets very crabby and hates being disturbed. He’s very much the ‘if I’m asleep LEAVE ME ALONE!’ 

~Tables with wobbly legs or any wheeled device with a broken wheel. 

Papa I:

~When someone gets a ton of books from the library shelves and just leaves them random places. There are deposit boxes and carts FOR A REASON! Not to mention it’s rude to the staff!! Also on that note, when people leave food or drinks in the library crammed in places instead of finding a trash bin. 

~If there is talking during a sermon or speech- not necessarily if he’s the one giving it or not. It’s bad manners just to have your own side conversation. Especially during meetings or important events. 

~The feeling and the sound of Styrofoam. It makes him shudder and he can’t stand touching it very long! And the sound is just horrible and makes him want to leave the room. 

~When people try to ‘SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH’ other people way too loudly. To him, it’s even WORSE than talking in the first place! 

~Being yelled at. Does not matter the context, it’s never ok. He hates the sound and will put a stop to it immediately. 

Papa II:

~Underlings or Clergy Members who are Chronically late with no good reason. That’s the number one way to get on his professional shit list. Papa finds it not only rude to everyone involved, but you are WASTING HIS TIME! It’s one thing if you have commitments like having kids or using public transport, life happens and he gets it- but it’s another when it’s always preventable and you blatantly have disregard for others. 

~When someone doesn’t know what they are talking about and are clearly uneducated about a topic BUT ACT LIKE THEY KNOW THEY ARE! It bugs him to no end when people try to act smarter than they are. It’s pretentious to him when a person thinks they can bullshit their way through any subject. It’s worse when they try to CORRECT him on a topic he knows by heart. That’s an easy way to get a verbal beat down from Papa. 

~Passive Aggressive behavior really irks Papa. If you are going to talk back or be rude you better do it bluntly or not at all. Papa is the type that if you say something passive aggressive he will look you dead in the eyes and say something like , “just tell me how you really feel instead of making ‘cute’ comments. Be an adult and use your words.” Can and WILL call you out.

~PEN CLICKING OR TAPPING ON A TABLE. He absolutely cannot concentrate when someone does it. The sound is grating on his ears and very distracting. Papa grits his teeth every time he hears it! 

~ When someone bumps into you or cuts in front of you without at least saying sorry. It happens, but it’s so damn rude to him when the person doesn’t AT LEAST try to apologize or show common courtesy. Catch him in a bad enough move and he’ll grab the person by the collar and yank them back for an apology. 

Papa III:

~When someone uses a condescending or childish tone to him. Despite being fun loving and silly, Papa isn’t stupid. You talking to him like he is a child or an idiot is the fastest way to sour his mood. 

~People chewing with their mouth open and smacking (and not because of a medical or similar condition). He personally finds it disgusting and classless. No one wants to see you chewing food! 

~People who are perpetually in a bad mood and take the fun out of everything in any given situation for no reason. It drives him bonkers when a person tries to just ruin mundane things with a negative attitude. 

~Despite how he tends to do it when getting too excited, Papa HATES IT when people interrupt him when he’s talking. He gets it that sometimes we get excited, but blatantly doing it during his time to talk makes him want to slap you. Even worse is if he is having a conversation with someone else and you barge in without at least saying ‘pardon me.’ 

~If anyone forgets to close his office door when he wants it closed. Papa is like a child and will loudly ‘UUUUUUUUUUUGH’ every time it happens. 

Cardinal Copia:

~When someone pronounces ‘Library’ as ‘Lie-berry’. Copia never says anything out loud (you never know if it’s a speech impediment or such.) But when he KNOWS the person knows better it gets under his skin. 

~Not covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough. To him it’s gross and THAT’S HOW YOU SPREAD THE FLU! Sometimes its moments like that that make him grateful for his gloves. 

~Having to repeat himself multiple times to someone or a group that obviously isn’t listening. It makes him feel like he’s not respected enough to be paid attention to or regarded with courtesy. If it’s important information, he will put his foot down and loudly clear his throat until he has someone’s attention. 

~Buzzing fluorescent lights or when a light won’t stop flickering. 

~When you are trying to leave a room but one or more person stands in THE DAMN DOORWAY AND WON’T MOVE CAUSE THEY ARE TALKING. He’s been trapped in so many meeting rooms this way and is sometimes too awkward to say anything.

How has the pandemic been treating you?

i’m an introvert so being indoors was nice at first but now it’s suffocating. i miss my friends and family so much. we’ve also just gone into tier 4 where i live, which is another lockdown, so that’s fun. but i do have plenty of time to write, watch tv and play cyberpunk so it’s not so bad. although my brother and sister are literally driving me round the bend.

plagiarism. if it’s not your work stop stealing it? this is mostly aimed at wattpad, specifically the graphic designers on there because trust me, the community is full of people who steal other’s work. but also at the people who steal writing and fanfics too, it hasn’t happened to me yet (as far as i know) but i have seen it happen and it really disappoints me about the online community. oh, and don’t even get me started on people who plagiarise and steal people’s original art work. no cool guys.

bakadere. i love the ‘stupid/silly’ clumsy types. i guess they remined me of myself and they’re, more often than not, cute ^-^

8 maybe? i’m pretty good at ignoring the things that would get me down and just cranking up the music to keep my spirits lifted. i’m also really enjoying university atm, even if it’s a lot of hard work, because i’m studying something i love. there are obviously things that suck atm, mostly to do with the pandemic and other family things but mostly i’m pretty happy despite how this year has gone.

Surprisingly well. My parents got Disney+ a couple weeks ago so I’ve been binging as many movies as possible. I watched Ratatouille for the first time last night, and am currently regretting not seeing it sooner. I’ve also been baking a lot, and attempting not to eat everything I’ve made. Online classes have been a struggle through, dodgy internet and a short attention span don’t mix well.

8. Recommend a movie

Hercules (1997), the music in this absolutely bops. And Meg. I love her. She’s amazing. Other recommendations would be Ratatouille (2007) and Aladdin (2019) I heard a lot of people didn’t enjoy the new Aladdin, and while sure it isn’t perfect, I liked it. So it’s on my recommendation list. Fight me.

High school. I was planning on getting a part time job around about now but... uh... I don’t think my parents would let me now, all things considered...

11. Do you prefer heat or cold?

Heat. I wear shorts all year round, and while I don’t dislike the cold, people keep commenting on what I wear during cold weather and it’s annoying. The “aren’t you cold” and “do you want a jacket” comments get real irritating after 16 years. Plus it feels like more family members have birthdays during the colder months, and family birthday parties are one of my least favourite things. So it’s nothing to do with the weather itself, simply what I associate with it.

12. Name one fact about you that others might find unusual:

I actively chose to leave a super high ranking school to go to a bottom ranking one. Also I overshare even though I know I probably shouldn’t, which is unusual because I know I shouldn’t yet do regardless.

13. Are you shy?

Yeah, kinda. Once I get to know people it lessens... somewhat? But when I first meet people I can be pretty shy. Even if I seem confident, internally I am not having a great time. That’s the power of acting I guess? I’ll rarely ever start the conversation with someone else, so if any ever wants to talk you’re better off messaging me first than waiting for me to magically grow a pair and start talking.

14. Do you have preferred pronouns?

She/her, but I won’t really be offended or anything if you guys get them wrong. This is probably the only time I’ve mentioned them on tumblr after all.

15. Biggest pet peeves

When they put superglue/industrial strength glue in tiny 3 gram bottles with long nozzles that are impossible to actually get the glue out of. This pet peeve has nothing to do with my current drama project, I promise. I definitely had this pet peeve before this week, it’s not new and specific at all. Haha... ha... ha

16. What is your favourite “-dere” type?

Tsunderes are a classic and also a mood, so I’ll probably go with them? Kinda basic of me, I know, but there isn’t really a type that jumps out at me as an immediate favourite.

17. Rate your life 1-10. 1 being crappy, 10 being amazing:

A solid 7 or 8? Could be better, could be worse. Wouldn’t call my life exciting, but I have a comfortable lifestyle and nothing too shitty has ever happened to me, so that balances out the lack of amazement I guess.

My main blog would be @a-good-one-but-taken, it’s just me reblogging stuff I like. I don’t stick to any particular fandom on that blog. Would not recommend checking it out.

20. One thing you think people should know about you before they become your friends?

I’m kinda hard to get along with. I mean, I’m mean. My first instinct is usually to make a snarky or sarcastic comment, and while I do mean it as a joke, I get the feeling that I come off as being genuine. I generally do want to talk to you however, and if I don’t want to then I’ll outright say it. My bitchy comments aren’t meant to be hinting at anything, they’re just a habit that I need to break. If you want then you can tell me to stop and I’ll be extra careful not to make them, although as of right now it’s pretty instinctual so I kinda just do it without thinking.

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?

Well… I’m not really good at angst because, while I like to make my characters suffer, I also like to end on a hopeful/positive note. So, the angst is never too bad. 😅

That said, I guess the worst idea I toyed with was a story set in a war scenario, where the opposing forces (the humans on that side, actually) are trying to capture America to cripple the nation’s military power. (Not knowing that personifications aren’t actually vital at all to a nation’s military.) After an ambush that leaves America unconscious and Canada injured, Canada, believing to be less important than America, swaps their uniforms and leads their captors on a chase away from America. Due to his injuries, Canada is eventually captured. Afterwards, Canada is tortured for information as he’s believed to be America, while America cannot divert all his energies to finding and rescuing Canada because he still has his duty and people to think of. This leaves him feeling torn and guilty. In the meantime, Canada’s captors discover his true identity and stop the interrogation but not the torture, using him instead for some experiments on personifications’ physiology (their healing and immortality). America eventually finds out where Canada is being held. Seeing the condition Canada is in, he gives himself up in exchange for Canada – but their enemies don’t keep their words and keep both of them. Canada gets tortured in front of him to convince America to spill information he doesn’t even have (even in canon, America isn’t privy to all the decisions of his government) and he couldn’t give anyway, because his people are more important than a personification who cannot even be killed and will eventually recover, no matter how much he’s tortured. Canada can still feel pain, however, so it’s horrible for America. On the other hand, Canada feels like he’s too weak and worthless because he didn’t manage to escape on his own, which lead to America being put in danger (and basically nullified Canada’s initial sacrifice) and suffering by witnessing Canada being tortured. America and Canada would manage to break free, of course, (courtesy of America, mostly) but the rest of the story would deal with the struggles both of them face recovering from such a traumatic experience, with a lot of difficulties and setbacks. I don’t actually think I will write it, though – I’m afraid I would end up not being able to deal with such heavy themes in a satisfactory way, and I don’t want to make light of them.

T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

Ohh boy that’s a heavy one. There’s a lot of stuff that really gets on my nerves on the long run, haha.

Before I write my answer, however, I want to specify that these are just my personal preferences. I’m writing them down because that’s what I have been asked – but I would never dream of dictating what other people can or cannot do. If I don’t like something, I just avoid reading it and keep quiet, I would never complain to the author about it. These are just very personal opinions of mine.

I have already talked about it [x] [x] so I won’t dwell too much on this, but I really don’t like how many people turn Canada into an edgy asshole. Why can’t nice characters just be nice?

I also hate when people behave like it’s canon that Canada is a stoner, when it’s not. In canon, he consumed marijuana exactly once, and his reaction and strong embarrassment afterwards hint that he strongly regretted it. I really don’t think he ever repeated the experience. (Not to mention how being a stoner would clash with his sensible, hard-working, and selfless personality.)

I don’t understand why people take the few times America displayed some insecurities as undeniable proof that the other 99% of the time he was positive and confident was all fake, and he actually has major depression issues and no self-esteem at all. I mean… people can be more complex than that. Why should all be fake? A person with a healthy self-esteem can still have some insecurities – and some moments of insecurity don’t mean that a generally positive attitude is completely fake (actually, even people with major self-esteem issues can retain a positive attitude – see Canada – so I think this last part is even more of a stretch). Of course, it is a possible interpretation, but it irks me when people claim it’s the only right one. Actually, I think that being so overconfident yet well-meaning and, in particular, always able to keep a positive outlook, is what makes America such an endearing character.

This is a very small pet-peeve – but in canon, there’s no FACE family. Not in colonial times, especially. So, I’m always a bit baffled when people write France and England living with America and Canada like a small, happy family in colonial times and consider it canon instead of the AU/canon-divergence it actually is.

Always about America and Canada, I don’t dig the ‘America and Canada are the children of Native America’ interpretation. First of all, why would there be a single personification of Native America? I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure there should be different personifications for the different peoples of Native Americans… Moreover, whether you consider it rightful or not (I’m not discussing this, but the canon portrayal) I think it’s pretty clear Himaruya wrote America and Canada as initially representing the cultural and political establishment of the coloners in North America… that, as far as I know, didn’t really have strong ties with the indigenous populations. That’s why America and Canada look Caucasian – and why it makes sense for them to be, too. Now, they represent all the different peoples in their countries and there is a lot of diversity, but they were born representing a much smaller (and less diverse) group so those were the features and ethnicity they mirrored. 

Romano being part of the mafia. a) This statement goes against canon; b) Maybe I’m oversensitive, but considering the personification of South Italy as siding with the mafia for shit and giggles feels really disrespectful to all the people of South Italy who are struggling to fight against mafia – who died fighting it.

People making everything about shipping and acting as if the slightest indication of two characters caring about each other is an undeniable proof of a romantic attraction. Don’t get me wrong, this is something you can build a romance from – but people caring for each other doesn’t necessarily mean it’s romantic. Most times, it’s not even a hint, actually.

Aand I should probably stop talking or I’ll get too salty over stuff I have no business being salty about in the first place, haha. 😅

U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

That’s a nice one! Allow me to ramble a bit, because there are some truly amazing writers who have inspired me a lot and deserve all the credit they can get. 😊

@mandelene – Her writing is just fantastic. It isn’t only about the plot and characterization (which I should mention is phenomenal, too – she always paints complex and realistic characters), but also the structural aspects of the writing are incredible. The pacing is always perfect, and she strikes an excellent balance between keeping her style simple and making the story immersive – she uses just the right amount of details to let you get into the story and convey (very well) the characters’ emotions, but not become long-winded. And the phrasing and choice of words is meticulous. Just a pleasure to read. 

Emperor Kumquat – She wrote some of my favourite long fics ever. Her characterization is intriguing and well-thought and researched, and it’s also very coherent through the story. The character arcs are built naturally, you can really feel them grow. Also, her plots are something incredible. They are original and interesting, but there’s also a meticulous foreshadowing and attention to details that really pays off. As the plot unravels, you start putting everything together and seemingly random events and words get a new meaning. They are incredible reads.

Azumizai – She wrote some of the first fics I read for Hetalia (years after they were published, though), and centred on Canada in a way I really love. It’s a lot of fluff and hurt/comfort but there’s also an interesting plot and take on the characters. I think her fics were the ones that actually drove me to try writing for Hetalia.

ink: what do you do to “set the mood” when writing?

lol I don’t, I just open the Word document and start writing

pen and paper: do you prefer writing by hand or on a device? why?

Typing always. I type a lot faster than I write by hand and since I’ll have to type it up eventually I might as well do it the first time.

diary: how many pieces have you written that are just for you or will never see the light of day?

The only things that never see the light of day are the abandoned pieces.

journal: do you ever write just so you can enjoy something to read?

No, I write because I have stories to tell. If I just needed something to read I would go open up my AO3 bookmarks or grab a book from my library.

novella: do you prefer to write short stories, one-shots, or entire novels?

Depends? I find my strength is in the mid-length stories. Longer ones tend to lose their quality as I go along, at least in my eyes, and I can pump out short stories quicker to feel more productive. But lately I have been more proud of my longer stories as I get more practice with them. 

pulitzer: tell about/link a piece where you felt your writing was the best.

Some things I think I did particularly well on would be In Memory Of, Crowns of Blood and Bone, Protostellar, and Wounded lips and Salted Cheeks.

genre: what genre do you prefer to write in?

Romance and humor.

narrator: what pov do you like writing in best?

Third person past tense. Present tense can be fun too but it’s much harder.

backstory: how did you come to love writing?

In seventh grade we had a ‘writing café’ every Friday during class time where anyone who had written a poem or something could stand up and read it to the class. I was hooked the first time someone said they enjoyed something of mine and I realized that the stories and images in my head could be shared with other people.

time-lapse: how long have you been writing (as a hobby or for work)?

Poetry since seventh grade. Song lyrics since about ninth grade. Stories and fanfiction since ninth grade as well but only publishing them since around eleventh grade I think.

characterization: describe your favorite character(s) you’ve written.

Tobirama, Madara, and Kakashi are always my favorites to make the main character. Their emotions are always so fun to play with. Izuna is amazing to have as a side character because his personality is just super fun. I only have two OCs, both of whom really only appear in one piece each, but I love both Uchiha Susumu and Senju Rei.

carnegie: what authors and/or books/stories have inspired you to write or influenced your work?

David Eddings, favorite author.

faulkner: what tropes do you LOVE writing? which ones are your guilty pleasure?

Soulmates, OBVIOUSLY. Also characters who end up somehow being forced to sleep in the same bed as the person they are secretly in love with, I haven’t written tons of that but I have 85 ideas per day that revolve around it. Same situation for one person getting injured for another person and accidentally letting it slip that they’re in love as they fade to black (to of course wake up in a hospital very embarrassed). MUTUAL PINING. A/B/O is a fave, I need to write more for that. I legitimately have an entire list of tropes somewhere on here…

o’connor: what tropes/genres do you dislike writing?

I’m not great with mystery or anything political. I don’t particularly go wild for the whole “I saved you from a bad relationship and now you’re suddenly in love with me” thing. Cheating is not something I want to write about. Unhappy endings or just straight angst with no light at the end of the tunnel. Off the top of my head I can’t think of many tropes I don’t like but I know there are some.

dickinson: what insecurities do you have about your own writing? what do you think you should improve on?

Oh lots of things. I need to work on fleshing out more than just the relationship between the main love interests, to build the world around more than just them. I need to work on remembering the little subplots I hint at then never follow through with. Pacing. Foreshadowing, I always make things super obvious and I very rarely manage to surprise people with what happens next. Personally I see my story ideas as predictable so I’d like to come up with more daring plots or aus.

playlist: what kind of music/songs help you write? do you have a writing playlist?

I don’t listen to anything while I write, complete silence. If music helps me ever then it would be me hearing a song somewhere and thinking “this line or song would make a great fic”.

record: have you written things based off of songs? do you like to?

Dirty Work and Let’s Hurt Tonight were both written for specific songs and I wrote several songfics back when they were popular like a decade ago. Honestly I kind of miss them. They were super cheesy and often poorly executed but I’ve always been a fan of accidental confessions and using music to do that was always hilarious.

nobel: have you published anything you’ve written? online or irl?

Other than on fanfiction websites no.

notepad: can you write anywhere or do you have to be in a specific place and mood to write?

Anywhere there is enough quiet for me to concentrate, so long as I have something to type or write on.

parchment: how often do you or your personal life influence your writing?

Not particularly often.

dedication: if you were to publish a book or multiple, who would you dedicate the book(s) to?

My fiancé, the people who believed in me here first in fanfiction, and anyone who was a particular help while writing it.

trope: what’s a pet peeve you have about writing?

When I know exactly what I want to happen but the words just won’t come to me.

input: what’s something you hate that people say to you about writing/your writing?

I actually don’t like being compared to other writers. When someone tells me “this reminds me of a fic by so-and-so” it always makes me think “Okay but I’m not them. I’m me. So did you like this on its own merits or did you only like it because it made you think or someone else?” Also not a fan of when someone tells me that the characters would not have reacted a certain way or done a certain thing. Fanfiction is about each person’s interpretation of the characters. None of us are the actual author so none of us have the authority to be up in other people’s comments making them feel bad.

critic: what’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about writing?

Stop worrying about whether people will like it. Make sure YOU like it. It will always flow more easily that way and there will always be a few people to enjoy the things you do.

mifflin: what do you feel is your strong suit in writing?

Writing emotions. I’m an emotional person, what can I say?

houghton: what’s something you love that people compliment your pieces on?

I love when they point out a specific turn of phrase they enjoyed or they pick out a specific small detail so I know the little things don’t go unnoticed. Really any compliment is incredible and very appreciated. Did you like the pacing? The characterization? The dialogue? Amazing, you have my whole heart for even mentioning one of those things.

Peter Parker x Reader

Warnings: physical and emotional abuse!!! AND mentions anorexia!! don’t read if these trigger you in any way, shape, or form! I’m serious! also, ANGST and some fluff if you really squint.

A little over halfway through the school year, you’re almost completely broken inside and out. Peter, MJ, and Ned have all been trying to talk to you this school year, to no avail. You’ve been thoroughly trying to avoid them. Until you can’t.

“(Y/n) and Peter, you two will be potions partners.” The teacher drones on, listing a few names as he goes. Flash shoots you a threatening look when he hears your names get called. You get the message.

Honestly, you don’t know whether you’re overjoyed or sick to your stomach at the thought of being partnered up with Peter. You want to be with him, in his presence, speaking to him again, but you know you can’t. Not unless you want both yourself and him to get in big trouble.

That’s why you decide to just keep quiet unless it’s necessary to talk to him.

“So, (Y/n), you know how to make this?” Peter chuckles as he sits down. You bite your lip and look at the textbook, nodding lightly. You get up to get the ingredients then sit back down.

“Take the dried billywig leaves and put them in.” You instruct, your eyes flitting over the book to keep from looking at Peter.

“Hey, are you okay?” He asks. You nod, looking anywhere but him.

“Stop messing with my girlfriend and keep to yourself, Parker.” Flash taunts as he and his partner laugh at his comment. Peter ignores them and instead focuses on how you clench your fists when Flash speaks.

“I knew it. You don’t really like Flash.” Peter looks triumphant at this fact. His words catch your attention, forcing you to look him in the eye.

“That’s not true. Why would I date him if I didn’t?” You narrow your eyes at him, doing the next step of the potion.

“Oh, that’s simple. It’s because you’re being forced into it. Maybe by him, maybe by your parents. My question is why do you stay? What’s happening to you that’s making you stay?” He whispers, making you bite your lip out of nervous habit.

“No one and nothing’s forcing me to stay, Peter, so drop it. I’m fine. I’ve been fine.” You brush him off, finishing the third step of the potion.

“You’re not fine, though. (Y/n/n), you vanished from my house without a trace. What happened? Did your parents get you again? I know you didn’t run away. We had just...told each other how we feel.” Peter grasps your hand under the table and you immediately rip it away from him, glaring at him.

So he does know after all.

“How we felt, Peter. I’m with Flash now. I care for him and me...I love him,” You press your lips into a firm line, seeing the look of shock on Peter’s face, “besides, if you really did like me like you said oh so long ago, you would’ve looked for me when I disappeared. You would’ve found me. You wouldn’t have let me go. You...you wouldn’t have let them get me again.” You whisper, a single tear falling from your eye. Peter’s shocked, about to speak again, when you stand up abruptly.

“(Y/n)--” He starts, but you’re faster.

“Can I use the restroom?” You ask the teacher, trying to keep a straight face. The teacher nods and you sprint to the bathroom, taking all of your stuff with you since you know you won’t be back in there any time soon.

Once you’re alone in the girl’s restroom, you break down again. Your breakdowns are becoming frequent and frankly, you don’t like it that much. Crying takes too much energy.

“(Y/n)?” You hear a voice behind you, causing you to hurriedly wipe your eyes and turn around to see Flash standing there, a skeptical look on his face.

“Go away, Flash. I don’t want to see you right now.” You sniff, wiping at your eyes more. You know your makeup is running down your face and you look like a mess, but you don’t care.

“C’mon, baby, don’t be that way.” He scoffs and puts a hand on your shoulder. You shove him away from you.

“Don’t touch me, Flash! I’m not in the mood for your games!” You yell, more tears streaming down your face.

“What’s wrong with you? Are you on your period or something?” He scoffs, looking at you with disgust.

“You’re an awful person and an even worse boyfriend. Get away from me.” You growl.

“Never speak to me like that again.” In one swift move, he’s got a fistful of your hair and then you’re on the ground with a split lip. You look up at him, keeping your mouth shut. “Good, pet. You’ve learned your lesson. Now get up, we’ve got to get you some help.” Flash grabs your upper arm too hard and forces you to grab your stuff and walk to the infirmary with him. When you get there, he finally lets go of your arm.

“Ma’am, Peeves played a trick on her. Painted a realistic looking painting that wasn’t actually a real hallway and then dared her to run down the hallway, saying that if she got all the way through without getting caught he’d give her a galleon. She ran straight into the wall.” Flash rolls his eyes playfully at you.

“Is this true?” She looks at you, frowning. You nod shyly, playing the act of embarrassed that you got caught doing something as stupid as that.

“Can you just fix it real quick? We have...things to do.” Flash asks vaguely, and you scoff. She nods, though, and soon your lip is back to normal. Flash all but drags you out of the infirmary and into a secured room. He backs you against a wall and you let out a grunt.

“What are you doing?” You ask. He says nothing, just attaches his lips to yours. You almost gag at the feeling, pushing him off.

“Oh, c’mon, babe. Your lip just got fixed so we can make out now.” He smirks at you.

“Are you forgetting that you’re the one who busted my lip? Seriously, Flash, I’m not in the mood. Besides, I really don’t want to be with you anyway when you abuse me. It’s a turn off if you’re not aware.” You shove him off of you and run away before he can lay a hand on you again.

You avoid Flash for the rest of the day and start talking to him again tomorrow.  The rest of the school year, you avoid Peter even more than you did, just to keep him from reading you like that again. You can’t have anyone find out your secrets.

The beginning of your sixth year, after another summer nightmare of beatings, you return to school sickly and pale. Your parents say there are lasting effects of the dark wizards magic on you, so that’s why you’re in such bad shape. Not because they continue to beat you.

Peter walks into your cabin on the Hogwarts Express before Flash even gets on the train, closing and locking the cabin door with his wand.

“Pete…” You murmur, frowning at him. You see his mouth twitch into a smile when you call him by his nickname you always kept for him, but it quickly returns to a serious expression.

“(Y/n/n), I know there’s something wrong. Just tell me, please. I’m worried. You come back to school looking the same when I found you in your house that one day? I know your home situation, why didn’t you come to stay with me again this summer? I could’ve helped.” He pleads, reaching for your hand. You pull it away.

“If you really wanted me there, you would’ve come searching for me. I’m not worth your time, Peter, you’ve shown that to me. You only try to make me feel better when it’s convenient for you. You didn’t even try to find me either summer when I went MIA. Plus, it’s not like I could get out of the situation without being broken out of my prison called my house.” You growl.

“(Y/n), don’t say that. I did look for you. For the rest of the summer. For the entirety of this summer. I swear I did, but I couldn’t find you. If I put a tracking spell on you, it just said you were at your house. They were keeping you somewhere secret. They didn’t want you to be found.” Peter sighs, rubbing his temples frustratedly.

“Peter, you need to leave. Flash will be here any moment.” You whisper.

“No. I’m not leaving you alone with him. I don’t know what’s happening, but you’re afraid and you don’t like him. Look, (Y/n), I know you’re technically with Flash but I also know that you would break up with him in a heartbeat if you could, so I’m just going to lay my cards out. I love you. I’m in love with you. I tried suppressing it, I tried lying about it, but there’s no way around it. I am absolutely and completely in love with you. I’ve fallen for you, (y/n), and there is nothing I can do about it. I know you’re with Flash, but I had to let you know how I feel. So, please, stop ignoring me, Ned, and MJ. They miss you. We miss you. Please come back to us.” Peter reaches for your hand and this time you let him. You’re shocked that he still likes you, let alone love. You know you love him, too, but there’s no way you can be with him. Not without hurting him.

“You need to leave.” You whisper and let go of his hand. You’re glad you did because as soon as your hand is back at your side, Flash barges in.

“What are you doing with my girlfriend?” Flash possessively sits down next to you and puts a tight arm around your shoulders. Peter sees you wince, you know he does. That only confirms his theory.

“Just talking. I’ll see you later, (y/n/n).” Peter gives you a small smile before walking out of the cabin. You watch him as he goes.

“Oh, don’t tell me you’re into that idiot, (Y/n/n).” Flash mocks-uses Peter’s nickname for you, causing him to get a punch to the face.

“Don’t mock me or him. I can be into who I want. As soon as I get out of my household, I am a free woman and neither you nor my parents will be able to control me anymore. If I want to date Parker once we’re out of school, I can and will. You don’t own me.” You hiss. Soon there’s a stinging in your cheek and you wince.

“What did I tell you about speaking to me like that? Don’t. Besides, our parents are planning an arranged marriage.” He smirks at you.

“Then I’ll run away with Peter to the muggle world. Anything to get away from you.” You grin at him. He growls and shoves your head into the wall of the cabin, making you groan. 

“Don’t. Talk. Back.” He readies his wand and points it at you.

“This isn’t about you wanting to be my boyfriend. You don’t really care about me, you just want power over me.” You spit out, and that pushes him over the line.

“You’d better keep quiet, pet, or this will turn out worse for both of us.” He grins and then mumbles Crucio. You jolt, convulsing in your seat but not making a sound. You’d unfortunately gotten a little used to the pain so you can take it without making a noise, but it still hurts the same. It’s the same pain, but with more self-control.

It’s now a couple months into your sixth year, and you’ve hardly eaten anything. A punishment of sorts, you guess. Flash had taunted about how you were getting fatter than usual, and even though you don’t like him, the comment had gotten to you. You’re used to not eating much anyway, so it’s not much of a change. Just fewer meals during the school year.

You’re in the dungeons with Flash, having another argument. That seems to be the only thing happening recently between you two, which only had horrible consequences for you. He seemed to be getting more comfortable using spells on you, which was bad news. It means worse tortures during the school year.

“Did Peter look at you during class today? Huh? Are you guys doing something behind my back or something?” Flash yells, grabbing his wand out of his pocket as a warning.

“I don’t know! You can’t blame me for him looking at me! We used to be best friends, cut us some slack! Besides, I can’t control who he does and doesn’t look at!” You scream back, and he points his wand at you.

“Sectumsempra!” He shouts, and you’re tackled out of the way before it can hit you. You’re on the ground with Peter on top of you, a look of shock on both of your faces.

“Immobulus!” Peter counters, shooting the spell at Flash. He freezes with an angry look on his face and his wand at the ready.

But before Peter can ask any questions, you’re gone. You’re running down the hallway to avoid confrontation. Why did he have to be there?

“(Y/n/n)! Wait!” Peter’s soft hands delicately intertwine with your calloused ones.

“Peter…” You collapse into his arms, sobbing into his hands that are cupped around your face. He knows now, there’s no stopping that. Maybe he can help instead.

“What happened? Are you okay?” He asks, brushing your hair away from your face in concern.

“I’m fine...I’m fine. I just...he’s been doing this recently. Hitting me with spells or just hitting me in general whenever we fight. He’s taking after my parents, thinking it’s okay. That’s why I can’t leave him. That’s why I have to stay. If I don’t, then everyone I love will die, including myself. But I’m mostly worried about you, Ned, and MJ. I can’t let anything happen to you guys.” You sob, wrapping your small arms around his torso and pressing yourself to him. He wraps his arms around your small frame. You couldn’t hold back your secrets anymore. Not to Peter. Not after everything he’s done for you.

“Okay. It’s okay. We’re going to get him expelled. He and your parents are going to Azkaban for what they’re doing. I won’t let them get away with this I promise. Just please, please come back to us. We need you, our group isn’t the same without you. Please. We’ll figure out everything together, I swear we will.” He presses his lips to the top of your head, and you let out a shaky sigh.

“Okay. I’ll come back. Four is better than one, right?” You give him a weak smile, but it’s fake. You don’t want to hurt them, but you have no other choice. Maybe the four of you really can stand up against Flash and your parents. 

You never know until you try.

has a few of them so in case one of his bastard friends takes one

keeps a few in his bedroom and he usually has one on him

he owns a small bong, one that's tucked away in the back of his closet

he’ll loan it out sometimes too (as long as they promise to clean it, he’ll kick ass if he gets it back dirty😤😤)

tries to avoid smoking joints because it makes the smell linger on his clothing

only smokes joints if he won’t be home for a bit and he has time for the smell to wear off

only wears his most raggedy clothing or things that are old as fuck so his good clothes don’t reak of weed

everyone teases him about it for the most part, besides takemichi

has a pretty good tolerance because he gets high pretty often

definitely not as high as baji’s but still up there

on average smokes ~3-4 times a week

accidentally took too much of an edible and went to school high the next day

he wasn’t sober until later that night

had to make it through school high as balls without anyone knowing

he was able to go to the nurses to sleep for a little bit though (they just thought he was tired lol)

all of his friends teased him relentlessly for the next week about it (“wow you really have no tolerance lol” but they knew he took too much on accident)

after a night of smoking he needs to sleep in

he gets sleepy enough while he’s high so sleeping in is a must

if he doesn’t, he wakes up and can barely breath bc his mouth is so dry

his mouth also tastes AWFUL after going to sleep when he smokes

his fave setting to smoke is usually in someone’s bedroom/basement or in the woods

prefers group settings so he has people to fuck around and be dumb with

he also enjoys taking edibles in groups so that when they kick in, everyone gets all giggly together (they all slowly realize that they’re getting high and think its so cool)

the type of man to offer up his weed during every sesh <3 (aka the loml and my husband😤😤)

has AMAZING sesh playlists holy shit they are sent directly from god herself bitch, i swear

always gets complimented on them too and he lives for the compliments and validation

very easy to impress when he’s high

takashi was probably frustrated by that but then was like “fuck it” and then they had a sesh together and it was the most fun they had in a while so they kept smoking together when they got the chance

he also likes smoking with takemichi, chifuyu, and takashi as a group

he also enjoys being with just takemichi and chifuyu or just one of them

What would you say are your biggest tumblr pet peeves?

Ok, Nonny, let’s do this! I am super curious and ngl a little suspicious about whether this is “about” something, since a lot of people are getting it ,which I should probably list as an item number–that is, reasonable sounding things that turn out to be stealth-something-else. (I was there, Gandalf!) But, I am going to take my own advice from earlier and assume good faith since I have no reason to believe otherwise!

I rambled a lot, so here’s a cut! (except not for mobile users, sorry! didn’t mention that as a peeve because hopefully tumblr will fix that shit!)

 Not tagging. Ok, obvs nobody *has* to tag. Especially if someone is mobile-only, I GET that Tumblr increasingly makes tagging so effing difficult! So, tagging has nothing do with whether I will like you as a person. It will affect whether I can follow (if I follow non-taggers that means we’re *very* simpatico in likes and interests). I don’t have a lot of bandwidth, so I add to my dash slowly, but when I’m going through fandom looking to add follows, it’s the first thing I look at, followed by making sure they don’t hate certain key characters, haha. Aside from filtering capabilities, I really enjoy tagging as a space for personality expression. It adds a lot to the experience! And the way tagging conventions have evolved as their own type of language expression is very cool. 

Guilt-tripping! Ohhh, wow, this is kind of hard to explain, and it’s something that can’t be tagged for, and is probably in many ways totally subjective, but I have a very quick trajectory from reading something that is control-attempt-by-means-of-guilt-shame to going all *knife emoji* and wanting to run as far away as possible. Long story short, I’ve figured out that I have triggers from my fundamentalist background, yay. :/

Gatekeeping! We are all responsible for our own selves and what we read or otherwise consume. Ship and let ship, and all that jazz. Each person’s headcanons only exist in their own head. Story does not equal headcanon. No fan is the boss of any other fan. Also a bit hard to express but here goes: “I ship what I ship because I do.” Shipping is an overflow of the heart - no one is going to stop shipping something because of online disapproval AND - AND -  no one is going TO ship something because people on the dash think they ought to, for whatever good and pure reason. IMO, when shipping gets mixed into meta discussions of trends and societal issues it quickly devolves. We can have discussions and education about a lot of cultural issues without it being “about” whether thus-and-so is a “bad” ship.  It undercuts the arguments anyway, when it looks like some serious social analysis is really about a ship war. 

Mean anons! Let it goooooooo, let it go! LOL  It’s weird to observe nearly all dissenting opinions coming to other people in the form of anons. Like, if you wanna disagree with someone, why not just comment under your url instead of sending snarky anons that will automatically sound ten times more aggressive because of being anon?? Knocking on all the wood around me, I’ve been here since 2014 and have not yet gotten a mean anon (and would prob not publish, and lol this seems like I’m testing the anon gods :P). They seems to be 1. people who have a fixation, and 2. people who won’t have a url-face to url-face disagreement.  (Also, people still sound like themselves on anon - I don’t think this gets said enough! :D) And I get it - it’s not like I haven’t composed some anon messages in my head after some infuriating behavior, but I assume I wouldn’t be as anon as I think haha, and also, who cares, people can and will be wrong on the internet. Move on and live. Nice anons on the other hand are marvelous! :P

What to call this? Maybe, treating following as equal to friendship? [ETA: whoops I should have said “following equal to friending ie Facebook” thus thinking of unfollowing like unfriending], Following is about what you want to see on the dash/what you’re currently into, not about whether you like or affirm someone as a person (I’ve realized this can be read another way soooo I mean it to be reassuring in the sense of not following doesn’t mean I don’t like you...I hope this hasn’t gotten muddled beyond understanding whoops). There are people I like A LOT who have incompatible fandom things. Unfollow ANYTHING, including this blog, that doesn’t make you happy, even if I’m your biggest fan, even if we’re mutuals or pals. (If we’re friends, you can talk to me about it - I kinda hate there is no script for this situation.) I won’t assume you never want to speak to me again unless you give another indication :P I am putting this into practice myself in 2018. I am so serious, I only want followers who want to be here! It makes me really uncomfortable to imagine reluctant or socially obligated followers, please fly free! 

Well, Nonny, that’s more info than anyone needed! And I don’t love talking about just negative things (like now I’m hoping no one is anxiety-triggered over something I said). Sooooo, I just hope we can all try to give each other more grace and space and assume more good faith in 2018. This is a VERY WEIRD and hard to figure out space we have to coexist in to do fandom, and it makes sense that we frequently rub up against each other and have to deal with that. I’m probably going to look over that list again and think about whether there are things I could do better at taking a more goodwill approach for for. 

But I am super curious what kicked off the inquiry, so please follow up if there’s anything you found out that you needed or whatever. :P

I have a few disorders and I'm on the spectrum. Nobody knows at work (besides the original manager. Which is funny because she also has similar disorders, yet treat/ed me like garbage, undeserved) I like to keep it that way. But I am so tired and I've been here nearly a year so this is a bullet (bullshit) list of all the shit I get to deal with. Note that, specifically, the manager and owner are neuro typical, privileged, very well off upper middle class white folk. * current manager is offered position behind then current manager and ass. Manager while they're on a work related trip * then manager gets told there's no hours for them for 3 weeks in lieu of temp hiring relative (original manager, neuro divergent, threw ass. Manager under the bus to customers, "left" the business but is still occasionally involved either by family or own volition. Was the one who originally hired on previous manager and ass. Manager. Wanted everything done a certain way, didn't train the new staff to know how though, but instead of doing so they had an attitude often, talked behind their backs, and got angry at them in person for not understanding a 'simple' concept), despite having a private convo with former ass. Manager about going to "fire" them. Ends up texting instead but doesn't use the "fired" word once. * former manager rejected a financially beneficial offer (to the business) by the boss a week earlier. * current manager gets trained by then ass. Manager. Lots of mistakes but won't acknowledge. Tries to do years old duties because that's what they did back when, interrupting ass. Manager during training with "corrections" or "additions" because it's not how it USED to be and it's INCORRECT. * praises own achievements and brags often. Talks a lot about "secret projects" between them and the boss. * says that the tasks they're doing aren't being done by literally anybody else but them. * upper management throws previous manager and ass. Manager under the bus to customers. * gives current manager ass. Managers position and hours. Ass. Manager is ripped of title and position unbeknownst to them. * current manager races to greet customers before anybody else, every single time to the point that were lucky if we see a human face ever. * current manager smears former manager to ass. Manager. Often. They're friends outside work. * "(former manager) didn't catch this but /I/ did". It's been 2 months since they were "fired" * current manager starts getting petty and passive aggressive out of the blue for, likely, a pet peeve that went silently unnoticed. In response, doesn't do half of their tasks the night of the morning the former ass. Manager was to open. * former ass. Manager sends msg about unfinished chores, manager responds with angry texts, "did you test me? As your manager I find that immature" etc. I.e "did you leave dirt on purpose to see if I'd clean it" or "I didn't do this task how dare you catch me in the act". * since then manager has been doing chores exceptionally well. Also changed tone. Has been leaving "friendly, helpful" msgs about undone chores to former ass. manager. * former ass. Manager gets reprimanded for NOT dumping the mop buckets after EVERY use (~6+gal a day wasted plus cleaner). Former ass. Manager is poor af. At home resources and utilities are conserved. * manager asks for more duties by boss and gets them, previous manager was stopped at every turn, argued against, or outright rejected. Duties were pulled and given to someone else (former manager who didn't technically work there, and owner). Manager was criticized often for not 'doing enough', 'slacking', and 'doesn't seem to want to be the manager'. * current manager starts shifting responsibilities around to former ass. Manager. Boss also starts giving back previous duties once taken away to former ass. Manager, despite being only 'staff' now. Responsibility shifted is an addition to a list, thus shortening the necessary duties of that particular shift that had the task removed from. Ex. "taking the trash and recycle out is now a opener chore from being a closer chore". This particular chore is cumbersome, can be physically taxing, and adds one more extra thing to an already long list. The shift in question is the hardest of 3, not to mention that for the last several months, the former ass. Manager has been doing their own chores ontop of the previous who's chores tend to always be unfinished. Thus it's more work. * former manager is still smeared by current staff despite not working here for months. * former ass. Manager texts a closer about said chores that have been undone on a recurring basis. Closer answers angrily and explodes, defensive. "You try working your ass off for almost 2 years." Former ass. Manager has worked in the business for 4+ years. Also tired of cleaning up after ungrateful people who thoroughly believe they're doing great. More than great. Also responded to being given a manager role previously with "it's about time." Didn't do their job. Complained or ignored when confronted about it or his duties. Eventually was moved back to staff. * boss prefers to hire high schoolers. Unsurprisingly it doesn't work out 9/10. * what's a schedule? IDK but you work over 40 hours and I'm at 20, """"full time"""". * manager has started taking on advice / mannerisms of previous manager and ass. Manager. I.e "yeah I prefer everything together, it's just easier that way and it's fine." Vs. 2 months ago "I'm sorry but I have to GO, we can't leave the floor empty" (in this case it was okay), "the floor has to be separated smalls and large, they can't mix at all whatsoever." / "hey!! Stop that!!! HEY" vs "shh. Easy." * "Hi!!! I'm the new manager, ____, (handshake)" * "This is ___, the new manager" * "Hi ____, this is ___ the new manager responding" to nearly every text, email, phone call, and personal conversation. * Passes these personality adjustments as their own doing, independently. * Starts acting petty, passive aggressive, and spiteful to former ass. Manager for, likely, not doing said responsibility that they moved to their duties checklist, with every interaction. * Has never, not once personally confronted former ass. Manager on any of the issues apparently present. Texts and leaves passive aggressive notes instead, or very "sweet" msgs. * Micromanages former ass. Manager unlike any of the staff, likely for personal reasons at this point. * Manager is 22. I'm tired af. Like there's so much more here to be listed and said but like. I'm straight up exhausted. It's unnecessary and childish and just fucking ridiculous. Especially when nobody is given the shit that I am about what I'm doing at all times, and if I did my duties to the T. Regardless of the fact that literally everyone here slacks to some degree, some more than others, and that when the manager themselves doesn't do something, that's okay though. Apparently. It really doesn't help especially because of my "quirks" because they won't understand it, clearly, and likely I'd be discriminated against but in the "oh well just move you to the back and away from the front so you won't have to deal with customers or anything too difficult how about that :)?" Aka "you are a risk and liability to the integrity of this business and I don't feel comfortable having you be a face of our work." I don't like to use my disorders often as an excuse or reason behind something, but sometimes it's necessary for mutual understanding. However I can't do any of that here, I've already submitted resumes and gone to interviews only to be overlooked or rejected, so I get to play house with these fuckers and I'm the one on the leash.
