"You guys havin' fun?" Midoriya suggests, smiling wider when you all agree with one another. Suddenly, bursts of laughter are heard from Denki and Mina, laughing at the image of Bakugou with a party hat that was forced onto his head. "Fuckin' bastards!" You turn to the sound of Uraraka's voice, floating bottles of beers heading over to the group. You all cheer, clinking tips before taking large sips. "Pretty, right?" You take a sip of your beer, smirking, "hell yeah. I don't know who bought these fireworks but we might just get arrested for it." Kirishima chuckles at that, clinking his bottle of beer with yours. "It was Denki and Todoroki who bought it," he states, nearly spitting out your beer. "What? Todoroki?- No, seriously?"

"I'm serious!" He laughs, gulping down his bottle. Mina suddenly appears, tugging at Kirishima's sleeve, "c'mon, let's light the red firework! And I'll see you later on tonight when the party ends, (Y/N)," Mina exclaims, winking at you before dragging off helpless Kirishima. You smile, turning to see Sero and Tokoyami. You snort, cocking a brow at the bird headed man, "didn't take you to be such a drinker, Toko." He grumbles, finishing whatever 4th bottle that night. Sero laughs, a little hazy. "I only drank two! This man is still low-key sobEr," he burps, making you physically recoil and burst out in a cackle. He follows along just as you get dragged into the group Midoriya and Bakugou was in.

You all watch in amazement as fireworks go off, red beautiful ones splattering across the sky and ones that looked like stars or flowers loomed over your faces.

"Let's play Spin The Bottle!" You surprisingly hear Iida suggest with a robotic voice. You share a look with Jirou, 'he is so obviously doing it for Momo,' you both think.

Fireworks nearly deafen your ears as others blow up in the distance, a bottle of beer set in the center of the circle of your old classmates formed in. "Les'gooo," Midoriya burps, "is that alcohol?" You exclaim, laughing when a fat glass bottle of red fireball appears in Hagakure's hands. Starting with Todoroki, of course, he spins the bottle and it lands on... Sero? You make a 'pfft' sound.

They take a shot of the fireball and hug each other like the men they are, Kirishima nodding his head in approval. Now it was Midoriya's turn... who landed on Uraraka. The girls chitter and blush when they see the two flustered and nervous. They shared a quick peck, nonetheless. Now it was Bakugou's, that landed between you and.. Kirishima. "Hey- no! It's-" you cut off with a laugh, "it's leaning towards you, see?!" "No, you!! I don't wanna share a kiss with a man, you go!"

"Alright, shut your trap! One of you just come over here, you damn idiots!" Bakugou raises his voice in annoyance, tapping his foot. He was sort of nervous. You sighed in defeat before crawling your way over to Bakugou, alcohol and beer intoxicating the air and your breaths. You hear a bunch of 'oooo's when you spread apart his connected knees. You lean in agonizingly slow as a joke, of course; you really didn't expect Bakugou to grab your head and roughly smash his lips against yours. Sure, it sort of turned you on but you had to be real, it's Bakugou for gods sake. No way.

You both disconnect with a loud smooch, falling on your butt as he glares down at you with a small smirk. "Shit, whatever," you mutter, crawling back to your place next to cheerful Kirishima.

It was now your turn to light up the fireworks... but you had a hard time trying to switch the lighter on. "Fuck (Y/N)!" Oijiro explains, Sato immediately running away when he thinks you've switched it on. "Fuuck- okay, somebody hand me a shot of fireball!" You shout to the group of adults, biting your tongue down in concentration as you try your best to emit flames from the mechanical object. Immediately, Koda comes carefully rushing to your side with a shot, immediately downing it and setting the glass shot in his hands. He immediately runs away just as you light it up.

"Go, go, go!" You rush Oijiro who's already dashing until you fall on your own two feet. You couldn't get up. Not when you were drunk and delirious, too far in the alcohol invested in your brain as you lay on the floor. "(Y/N)! You dumbass, MOVE!!" Mina jumps up and down as her anxiety spikes. Midoriya immediately rushes to you and carries you on his back, sighing in relief when the firework explode and emits into a beautiful scenery.

"Oops," you burp, earning a shaking head of disapproval from Midoriya. "Fuckin' dumbass," Denki laughs with Oijiro. You bark back at him, punching at the air and squirm on Midoriya's back.

"M-Midoriya," Iida calls out with a drink of alcohol in his hand, his arm wrapped around drunk Momo. "Why aren't you drinking anything? Aren't you h-having fffun?" He slurs, taking another sip from his plastic red cup. Midoriya chuckles, only just a tad bit tipsy. "Well somebody's gotta drive you people home, right?' Iida laughs, blushing into a deeper shade of red when Momo starts to kiss him on his pulse. "Yes! Of- of course! Now if you'll excuse me-" Iida drags Momo off to who knows where, earning an eye roll from Midoriya.

You roll your eyes back as your head polls to the side, resting your head on whoever's shoulder that was next to you. "I love you guys," you say, loud enough for your old classmates to hear.

my parents really want me to have a car in case of emergencies but i don't want one, what's it like not having a car

also do you think minimum wage is enough to live off of with a roommate? ive seen a lot of varying opinions on the chicago subreddit

It is very easy not having a car. Only 1 time in 3 years have I even wanted to borrow my parents' car and it was to go to a concert. Both my previous and current roommate brought their car and then ended up returning it to their parents' house after a few months because there is nowhere to park it. If I want to visit family I take the Metra and then they pick me up. Most people I know also Amtrak.

As for money, when I first moved to Chicago I worked in restaurants which pays quite a bit higher than minimum wage. Being a hostess is very easy and usually pays at least $20 an hour. I mostly worked about 4-6ish hour shifts 4-5x a week bussing tables and probably averaged like $1800 a month from that. However, depending on unpaid time off or doing things like bartending for 10 days straight during Christmas pay could be as low as $1,200 or as high as $3,000 a month.

I also was working part-time in marketing for $10 an hour and did freelance projects. This brought in another $550ish a month on average, give or take. This was also extremely variable and could be as low as $300 or as high as $1500 a month.

My budget before I got an adult job from 2021-early2023 basically looked like this:

Rent and utilities $900

Train passes $20 (I walked to work and the animal shelter, I did not need a monthly pass)

Nonessential purchases (including dining out): $350

Savings: $350

Groceries/toiletries/cosmetics $250 (I got a lot of free food and beer from my job)

Cat supplies $50

Subscriptions (Photoshop for work, spotify, etc) $30

Random extra expenses (Ubers, household supplies): $100

Then I was on my parents' health insurance.

This came out to $2,050 a month.

I track everything in Excel so this is real, this is not an estimate.

If it ever didn't work out I would've moved back in with my parents and if I like got hit by a car or whatever they would've helped me out. So I don't want to give the impression I was ever like struggling. However, I did not want to rely on my parents financially and I was determined to make it work, so I did a lot of things like cut my own hair. To be honest, this was a really happy and carefree time in my life for the MOST part.

I also lived as below my means as I could (tbh several hundred dollars), because there were months where stuff happened like during a Covid surge in 2021 restaurants closed down and I made almost no money that month and had to start dogwalking in January.... which I was terrible at.

My strong recommendation would be to work in a restaurant (bc tips and free food) and not bring a car, and also have a parent co-sign a lease. A lot of landlords won't rent to you unless you make 3x the rent, and I didn't. I also recommend breweries-- I mostly worked at Corridor/DryHop and it was awesome.

Also I don't think this lifestyle would've been sustainable forever so make sure you're working towards something. I didn't want to get stuck in Iowa forever in a low paying miserable office job I hated so I was determined to move to the big city and wait for the perfect opportunity. I was lucky enough that it happened, but I think if I hadn't been lucky or was more complacent it would've been easy to like end up as an unhappy adult yk

It’s always events like these that can show both the best and worst of humanity, with lots of support coming in for the King, Catherine and the family… but conversely, the amount of vile comments under most news sites really make me sick. Interestingly, I don’t even care all that much about what Harry and Meghan’s cult have to say, because you just know already that they will make up the worst fake situations and run with it like it’s the truth. I’ve seen the most disgusting things from them. But again, it’s to be expected, and they just mindlessly hate everything about the royal family.

No, the worst for me is realising how entitled many Brits come across when they discuss the NHS, private healthcare and whether wealthy people are “entitled” to receive better healthcare, and that the royal family should be made to use the NHS exclusively (including waitlisting etc) as most people. I have tried to read all the tweets and comments where people actually share their stories of understaffed hospitals, long waiting lists leading to potentially avoidable deaths etc, and I truly have sympathy with them. But do they not realise how high the standard of care they receive is, especially for “free” (through tax) healthcare??? Look, I live in South Africa. Our private healthcare is really good (many expats say on par with Europe), but only around 20% of the population can afford it. The public health system on the other hand.. it’s the same quality doctors, but hospitals are SEVERELY understaffed, often overcrowded, lacking in resources, so that the care you often receive is really sub-par. When people complain about months-long wait lists for operations or procedures, again, I have sympathy, but also, for SA public healthcare, this means someone going to A&E waits literal hours for any sort of care at times. I live in a small town, and the closest hospital is a public one. There was an accident where a man accidentally severed his hand using a chainsaw, so they opted to taking him to the public hospital 30 mins away vs the private one 2hrs away, to get help quicker. He ended up in the waiting room, holding his severed hand, for over three hours and had not been helped AT ALL, when they decided to drive the further 1hr30 to the private hospital. Many people would jump at the chance for our public healthcare to be even in the vicinity as good as the NHS. And also, those who don’t have medical aid over here never begrudge those who have access to private healthcare. It’s more of a situation where if someone has access to that, rather use that than take up more resources that the public healthcare doesn’t have, even if there are benefits to using those systems for simpler situations (like regular checkups, prescription medication being really cheap or even free, but then there’s less for people who really need it). They seem to be completely lacking in empathy and ironically, completely unaware of their own privilege.

No I completely agree, a lot of things that you said are completely true for Indian Healthcare system too. Buy yk what these people do not realise that doctors and nurses themselves often encourage people who can afford private care to get private care to make sure those who only rely on public health services can get them as quick as possible especially if there's an emergency. My own dad has had had chats like this with his patients. We were just talking about it yesterday while on call because this exact thing came up when I was like why don't people understand how medical Healthcare works. It pisses me off so much, especially when some of the stuff people say isn't even accurate at all. The NHS though a fabulous institution, is deeply deeply flawed not because there's an issue with it per say but because of the utter mismagement by the the govt and nobody else's fault. The Tories in the past 13 years has run it to the ground, massively underfunded etc etc but even then it is a whole lot better than most countries around the globe like you said.

I'm not blaming the public because it isn't their fault at all that they are having to wait for even simple checkups let alone complex procedures which they need. It's not their fault that they've been dealt a shitty hand from the govt who'll rather do everything else than actually help those who they are supposed to represent. I completely and 100 percent empathize with them but blaming the problems the govt has created on somebody else who's having a health crisis no matter who they are isn't okay imo.

What all you said about SA is completely parallel to what happens in India word to word. It's horrific stories all around. My own dad has always said that even he wasn't himself aware of the dire situation that exists virtually everywhere else. Not saying that there aren't issues when it comes to the nhs for ordinary people, but that the standard of care people get through them might be flawed at times but is still a millions miles ahead of most places on Earth. He does say that he wasn't aware of the privilege he had as a kid or even as an adult until he actually started working outside of it. As a kid it was so easy for him to get a doctor if he was sick etc but working in his field all these years in places all across and even today in India makes him realise of how easy he and his family & those around them had compared to all this bs. One of his earliest patients when we moved to India was a kid of 10 or 11, it was supposed to be a normal operation right? Could be done in any of the places in their local community health centres but couldn't happen. Why? Because the govt sure has made the building but not put the actual staff and machinery in there. So they travelled from their village in central maharashtra to Bombay to get their child a fucking hernia removal which takes just an hour at most. And they didnt get it in the govt hospital even then because of several problems but through the ngo & hospital my dad works with. With this you can easily imagine the state of it all.

And I'm glad that I have seen people a lot of them medical professionals in the past 2 days who have been like it's good that they are going private not because they are rich and they should but because that will make sure no extra stress is put on an already crippled nhs. Now as for the issue of private Healthcare, I have always been against privatizing something as basic a human right as Healthcare for all and believe that it should be accessible to everyone regardless of where they come from or who they are. But also the reality i that we live in a world based on capitalism, so there is no way around the fact that as long as the prevailing economic structure exists, these disparities will also exist because they are a direct result of that. So blaming it on somebody who's already staying way from the public system to ensure she doesn't burden it doesn't seem to be great even if you think about it logically or emotionally. When it is the Govt who has been hell bent on making sure the nhs turns into the across the pond version of the disaster that the American health care system is.

Then they are also being like 14 days? Oh extra precautions cause of who she is. UMMM NO! Any doctor will tell you that's basically the normal time to have an hospital stay after a large incision there to make sure there's no further emergency situation and to avoid any infection or even ur stitches coming out. Abdominal surgery is no cakewalk and comes with significant risks so yah you do need to be extra extra cautious. Those assumptions honestly make me so fucking angry because if you don't know shit about medicine then kindly do us all a favour and stfu.

And I never ever ever will understand how any decent person can wish bad health, death etc on anybody else, someone whos done nothing to you. Like how does your own conscience allow that? You don't like someone? great you are entitled to your own opinion. But wishing harm to somebody just because of that is so so disgusting to me especially when that person has done nothing to you or anyone else ever except get married into a family you don't like. Even when PP and QEII passed away the vitriol and the I'm glad they are dead jokes were just out of my comprehension. And I do think it has a lot to do with the fact that over time the idea of anonymity on the internet has made us as a society this way, like who's gonna check you when you talk like this about someone online. And also imo, it's also become a thing where it makes you 'cool' to challenge everything you see around you online; not necessarily because you might also believe in it too but because it makes you different than all the other mere mortals around.

Dirty Dancing: I watched this movie yesterday and WTF????? IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!! Like, it gives so much Sessão da Tarde energy and I love it sm (probably because it airs all the time on Sessão da Tarde lol)! Also, to y'all who aren't familiar with it, Sessão da Tarde (Afternoon Session) is a television program on TV Globo, probably the biggest and most popular TV network in Brazil, in which movies (mainly older movies) are shown from Monday to Friday during the afternoons :) If I had to describe it using 3 movies, I'd definitely say Dirty Dancing, Clueless AND White Chicks. (They really love White Chicks lol) That's the kind of movies they show (at least last time I checked lol)

To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar: After some time that my friend recommended it to me, I finally watched it and it was very fun :D I really loved the story and the characters, and honestly Noxeema was so real (though Idk if she's my favourite. Like, this is the kind of media where I really can't pick a favourite character lol) <3 If you haven't watched it yet, I definitely recommend!!

My Bodyguard: I finished watching it like an hour ago and wow! Definitely better than I expected. Also, something that I found really funny was how similar Clifford was to Luigi (from As Aventuras de Poliana, a brazilian telenovela based on the Pollyanna book series). Like, their blue eyes, the curly hair in THAT shade of brown, their overall body types as well. Even the personality lol, though Clifford was Luigi with less social anxiety. Also (unrelated to my little comparison) Matt Dillon looked so fruity in this movie, especially with that hair lol

Despicable Me 4: I watched it yesterday as a little goodbye hangout with my friends and as I expected, it's one of those movies that probably should've never happened and is just a way of milking the brand. Like, it was pure dogshit, but honestly so dogshit that it became funny at times (also did anyone else notice the BTS symbol on Poppy's phone case?). The only scene I actually liked though was the ending scene with Gru and the weird cockroach-fetish-having villain singing Everybody Wants to Rule The World (Tears for Fears) while previous villains danced along. But as I click on the first website that appeared, BOOM! Two porn ads. (Idk if that website focused on porn or if these just were ads) For like 5 seconds, I was in shock. ''How tf did I get here???'' is still a question I ask myself, and so I clicked off, very confused. Idk if that's the actual website OP found it on and these are just ads, but my eyes aren't very happy after this experience 😍

Beyond internalized lesbophobia, you can use that time to solve any insecurities, emotional baggage or trauma you might have that could cause problems in a future relationship.

Also I've said this already but I really want to insist: when society (and now the lgbtqiabcxyz+++) wants us to be miserable, lonely, and ashamed, we need to go out of our way to be self-indulgent and spend our time doing things that make us happy and fulfilled. You have a lot of free time, so instead of wallowing and doomscrolling, ask yourself: what can I do to make today a great day? Is it working out, calling/meeting with a friend, doing something creative, learning a new skill, finally finishing a video game, cooking a recipe you've always wanted to try? Even relaxing at the park for an hour or two without your phone so you're not sollicited at all can make you feel better! Don't wait until you have a girlfriend to live a happy life! :)
