today has been a very good day for me. I expected bad days, it literally hasn't even been a week since I got broken up with? it's been 5 days at most.
#woke up#had yummy cereal with the coffee/milk mix i usually do#got myself balatro and immediately won the first time i played it#there were yummy coconut shrimp at work that i got to eat#i saw a cutie who's in a band and it and its gf came up and said hi to me and talked to me for a bit#the girlthing i'm friends with that i love came to the deli and gave me a hug#then i got to slice some cheese for it and it pet me and called me a good girl as a reward for doing such a good job for it!#then the hot water we're required to have for the deli to be up to code came back! after a week of washing greasy dishes without it!#got out of work 15 minutes earlier than usual!#got home#and then practiced guitar for a bit#then was able to get changed and visit the girlthing that hugged me earlier.#today ruled!!#also im getting a bike tomorrow with the help of a friend who has also bought me... some kink gear. which i will not specify but will enjoy.#and then i get to see one of my non nesting gfs some time after that and fall asleep cuddling her!!#my life is very gay and good.

#The Loudest Silence#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#hm this was okay! it’s a sweet and light YA contemporary focusing on friendship and disability.#It’s a little cheesy; and I liked the immediate easy friendship (well; after a few false starts) and how welcoming Hayden's#friend group/family were. I like how they all jumped to learning/practicing ASL.#I liked how Casey was dealing with her newfound Deafness with a lot of positivity - the main frustrations being how other people treat her#but there’s also the underlying isolation and grief. At the same time it didn't go as deep as it could have with that?#The friendship is central to the story - but honestly I feel like Casey and Hayden’s relationship doesn’t develop past ‘they’re friends now#[continues other subplots] - it ends up being a bit telling not showing their friendship. And then she gets a love interest.#I feel like if you’re centering your book on being a platonic love story - rare in YA! - giving one a love interest kinda goes against#what’s supposed to be unique about it? Like it wasn’t overwhelming and I thought it was sweet actually; I just didn’t come here for that.#I always find it a little odd when YA contemporary books don’t explicitly name their aroace characters as aroace -#obviously I prefer an exploration of experiences to just using the word and nothing else; but in this genre; why not both?#considering various other identity labels are used and discussed there were various points where it felt like it was walking circles#around where it would be obvious to say “no I’m aroace” lmao?#And there’s a point where Casey mentions seeing an ace sticker on his guitar - the only reason it wasn’t an aroace sticker is bc#that would have ruined the minor subplot of her assuming he’s gay/dating his other friend. It felt like a slightly odd way to mention it?#but also I guess I appreciate it being evident throughout but also being a non-issue plot wise - while there’s a couple of moments#of people making romantic assumptions about them;for the most part it’s just treated normally for a boy & girl to be friends (as it should!#It does get points for mentioning people watching by conan grey LMAO (not that it really explores him feeling that way specifically;#but I mean same lol)#Overall plot-wise - there were kind of a lot of things going on and it petered out a bit? I wanted some more depth in some areas.#Also I feel like some of the references seemed out of date for current teens haha.#i do love the love for unusual pets (hairless cat and iguana)#aroace books#bisexual books

Interesting how one week with a disrespectful, lazy, stupid, rude, know it all coworker who's 5 years younger than me and doesn't know shit but somehow got in through nepotism can make my blood boil so hard I threw up three times in the past two days and got ulcers, yet while I was working as a bartender and had to deal with rude drunkards who overstepped boundaries and had to be escorted out by security or had the police called on them, I was pretty chill about it and got over it shortly after
#idk if i mentioned it but at the last concert some brazilian dude was hitting on me and wouldn't leave me alone#until an older guy my friend and i were hanging out with for some of the night pretended to be my husband bc he was so pushy and creepy#and i mean the bartender asked if i'm alright but he was already leaving by then so i was like yeah and partied on like whatever#this bar is a safe place tbh especially in comparison to other clubs around here where nobody gaf if you seriously need help#and obviously when customers were being dicks to me i was annoyed for a bit but forgot a few minutes later but this guy? worst person i know#in other news i drank half a bottle of amaretto and a beer and i'll absolutely have more tomorrow#and i'll be aggressively playing guitar and singing to calm myself down which is. good? that i'm practicing again but 😭😭#9 hours breakdown and counting (excluding this morning before i was in an okay mood for an hour because i got pizza)#mel talks

when tara can finally stumble her way through a song on guitar, what do you think she learns to play?

i kept thinking and thinking and thinking about this and it made me realize even more how hard it would be for tara to play. like, painfully hard, seeing you almost always need your middle and ring fingers for the chords. so i wasn't sure if tara would start by learning a song she likes or just a random one in an "easy songs to play for beginners" list.
taking this into consideration, she'd probably list a few songs she wanted to learn and check which ones seemed easier to play.
one she wanted to learn (and i think could be the first!) but took a while was dreams by fleetwood mac; not because it was particularly hard, seeing the song mainly focuses on two chords (F and G), but the positions were kinda hard and it hurt a lot when she first tried it.
i wanna say at the point where tara decided to learn how to play, she was giving therapy and physical therapy another try. and whenever she did try to play and her fingers were shaking, her grip wasn't firm, or holding it for more than a few seconds hurt so much she had to open her hand and put the guitar down, it motivated her even more to put an effort into her next physical therapy session.
#when she finally could play the same chords for a full minute like at least enough to get through the first chorus#sam was the first person to see it#tara called her sister and asked her if she could show her something#she sat sam down on her bed and was Beaming. glowing like sam hadn't seen her glow in a while#she picked up kirby's guitar. the one she lended her so tara could practice when they weren't hanging out#and started playing. even if her fingers were a little bit shaky and the frown was ever present as she started to sing the first few lyrics#sam encouraging her along the way#singing the chorus with her#it was a magical moment for them#and when tara finished she couldn't help but cry. proud of herself for not giving up#because she finally did it#and sam is crying too#hugging her#because she knows how much it means to tara#it's progress. and it means so so much#she's trying. she's really trying. and it's showing results#tara carpenter#ask#kirbycarpenter#ma talks scream#scream#taralyzed tag

i want to start learning violin but I know the second I tell my parents they’re gonna know it’s because of jack aubrey and they will laugh at me about it. like that old tumblr post abt someone who wanted to learn violin and their parents asked them what anime boy played violin. i will survive this great trial but at what cost
#not telling them isn’t an option my mom is a band teacher (winds percussion and guitar the only approved instruments in the household)#I did always casually want to play the violin#but now I want to play baroque music#and as much as I love the French horn#I hate how it requires staying in training in order to have sufficient range and stamina for most pieces#it’s like not being able to sing if you haven’t been working out enough or something. ridiculous#i don’t have the time or space to practice often so right now I physically can’t play much of my repertoire without skipping bits#and often those are the fun bits#obviously you have to stay in training for most instruments (and singing) but horns ime are the worst that I’ve played in that regard#ALSO (since I’m venting about horns rn) I can’t roll my rs so I can’t - don’t laugh - flutter tongue which is important in some fun pieces

#i think this was actually where p/q began for me because they were 1st and foremost the main characters and unfortunately their dynamic#was toooo interesting! sorry lucian. he was just sort of. a miserable fast food manager/orphan#band comp as follows: phaedra drums florenza bass quintana vocals/rhythm guitar ginny lead guitar#except obviously she fucks them over at the last minute. so quintana can do the main guitar parts no practice needed.#but they still need the rhythm. & this is where me including my personal blorbos comes in. because who else could do it. but paladozza's#greatest overachiever? shes been doing homoerotic tension with celie&banyon in the background the whole time as set-up#so i can do comedy of errors with froi and celie#but froi's main bit in the whole thing is just reenacting the shower scene from pitch perfect with tariq
