husband gojo! who turns into “the neediest” after a long day of being “the strongest” the moment he walks through the door. his blindfold or glasses are tossed aside because, to him, you’re no sight for sore eyes; he wants nothing obstructing his view of you. he’s immediately all over you, clinging to you like a lifeline. and when you groan, “toru, i need my personal space,” he only grins and murmurs, “i need your personal space too, baby,” before wrapping his long legs around you, nearly making you stumble and fall with him still stubbornly attached, laughing like it’s the best part of his day. (it is)
husband gojo! who, ever since you baked him a birthday cake once, fell head over heels for your baking. now, it’s a tradition; he refuses to have a birthday cake unless it’s made and decorated by you. this extends to his sweet tooth cravings too; whenever he comes across random dessert recipes on his phone, he immediately sends them your way with an innocent “doesn’t this look good?” even if you’ve never seen or heard of the dessert before. he’ll hover around the kitchen, sneaking peeks and stealing tastes, grinning like a kid because there’s nothing sweeter to him than something made by your hands.
husband gojo! who absolutely loves when you spend his money. it takes you a while to get comfortable using it because you feel bad, but he always reassures you with a grin, “my money is your money, sweetheart. it’s all gonna be spent on you anyway.” he gets genuinely excited when you come home from a shopping trip or when packages arrive at the door, practically glowing with pride. seeing you spoiled and happy makes him feel like he’s doing something right. his favorite part, though, is when you give him a haul, showing off everything you bought and trying on all your new clothes just for him. he’ll sit back, arms crossed with the biggest smirk on his face, and say, “damn, I knew my money looked good on you.”
husband gojo! who is so, so, so protective of you that sometimes he just wants to keep you home, away from the outside world, where nothing can touch you. he’s spent his whole life as nothing but a weapon for jujutsu society, and all he wants now is to keep you safe, to shield you from everything. when you’re out together, his arm is always wrapped securely around your waist or draped over your shoulder, a silent reminder to everyone that you’re his to protect. dates are rarely in public—he prefers private, intimate places or the comfort of home, where he knows you’re safe in his arms. he’ll even insist on teaching you self-defense, but the lesson always ends the same: him pinning you down, a smirk on his face as he attacks you with kisses, murmuring, “looks like you’re still defenseless against me.”
husband gojo! who quite literally steals your entire personality. the moment you say a new phrase or pick up a habit, he’s quick to latch onto it, memorizing it like it’s second nature. by the next day, he’s already using it effortlessly, as if it’s always been part of his vocabulary. when you catch him doing it, he just shrugs with a small grin, “what can I say? you’re my favorite person—I can’t help it.” he admires you so much that your quirks and habits naturally become his own.
husband gojo! who sometimes tries to scare you in the mornings by hovering over you, his face so close that the first thing you see when you open your eyes are his deep blue eyes staring wide into yours. it always makes you jolt awake, your hands flailing as you instinctively poke or smack him in surprise. he’ll laugh, completely unfazed, pulling back just enough to grin down at you with a playful, “good morning, sleepyhead. miss me?” even when you scold him for nearly giving you a heart attack, he just chuckles, pressing a kiss to your forehead like it’s the most natural way to start his day.
husband gojo! who, just like he steals your personality, also steals your scent and fashion. if you have a favorite perfume, he’s either hunting down the “manly” version of it or shamelessly spritzing yours when you’re not looking. and when it comes to clothes, he’ll buy the exact same pieces you own—just a few sizes bigger so they suit him. it’s not even subtle; he’ll walk out wearing a sweater that’s just like yours, grinning proudly when you notice. “what? we match. it’s cute,” he says, completely unapologetic, because to him, there’s nothing better than being a reflection of the person he loves most.
husband gojo! who’ll dye a small streak of his snow-white hair your favorite color just to surprise you. he keeps it subtle and tucked away, hidden so well that no one else would even notice unless they were running their fingers through his hair—and no one gets that close but you. sometimes he changes it when your favorite color shifts, always paying attention to the little details that make you smile. when you do find it, gently brushing his hair aside, he grins at you softly and says, “figured I’d keep a piece of you with me.”
husband gojo! who genuinely tries his best to make time for you, despite how often he gets called away for missions. sometimes days pass without him seeing you, and the distance wears on him more than he'd ever admit. when he finally comes home, the moment he sees you, he's on his knees, pressing kisses to every inch of your body, mumbling softly between each one about how much he missed you. "missed you so much, baby... couldn't stop thinking about you," he whispers against your skin, his voice laced with exhaustion and love. it's in moments like these-when he's been deprived of your warmth and attention-that he starts to second-guess being a jujutsu sorcerer at all. because no mission, no battle, could ever compare to being with you.
husband gojo! who drops everything the second he steps through the door after a grueling three-day mission, exhaustion forgotten the moment he sees you standing there, holding out a small gift box. confusion turns to shock as he opens it, and inside, a positive pregnancy test. for a moment, the world stops; his heart races, his breath catches, and then it hits him: he has a family now.
husband gojo! who doesn’t even hesitate. right then and there, he decides he can’t be both a sorcerer and a father. he refuses to miss a single pregnancy milestone, a single moment with you or his child, because of his work. the next day, he quits. the elders, the Gojo clan, they can pester him, manipulate him, lecture him about “duty” and “protecting the country,” but he won’t budge. “It’s my duty to protect my family,” he’ll say firmly, his hand resting on your growing belly. no one will take him away from you and the life you’re building together.

⋆౨ৎcoriolanus takes the night off to bake fall treats with you⋆౨ৎ fem reader x coriolanus snow
It had been an awfully quiet day, and the silence was becoming stifling. You had read every magazine in the house, and your embroidery didn't feel appealing right now. Outside, the world was turning to the colors of fall, bright oranges and reds decorating the grounds of the mansion.
The door opened and shut to the room, and you looked up, smiling when your husband entered. He looked tired, hair messy from his perpetual habit of running his fingers through it, tie long abandoned, sleeves pushed up. You reached out for him, making a fake pouty face at him that tilted the corners of his lips up. "My love."
"Darling," he greeted, kneeling at your side and resting his head in your lap. Your fingers automatically started running through his hair, soothing the tensions of the day from his scalp.
"You're back early," you commented, stroking the side of his face. "I wasn't expecting you until later.
Coriolanus sighed, nuzzling his cheek against your thigh. "Long day. Decided to come home early."
"Poor thing," you cooed, bending to kiss his hair. "You work too hard, darling. You're going to turn grey before I do."
"I'd better not," he grumbled, and you suppressed a giggle. "With any luck my hair won't change color."
"Hm." You smiled, fingering his platinum hair. "Well...just in case maybe you should take a break. Don't work for the rest of the night."
"I've got too much to do, sweetheart," he shook his head, lifting it from your lap. "There's-"
"Don't," you murmured, giving him a pleading look. "It's been so long since we spent an evening together."
He sighed through his nose, looking up at you. Something in him seemed to break as he searched your eyes, the blue raking your depths. Finally after a moment, he lifted one of your hands, pressing a kiss to the knuckles. "You're very hard to say no to, sweetheart."
With a delighted squeal, you sprang to your feet, tugging him up. "I was just about to go down to the kitchens."
He tilted his head. "What for?"
"I want to make cookies," you tugged on his hand. "It'll be fun."
You nearly laughed when he squinted, letting you pull him to the door. "I didn't think you liked doing that sort of thing."
"I do," you smiled, practically skipping down the hallway with him. "My mother used to make pumpkin cookies every year in the fall. I want to do it too."
You could practically feel him soften at the mention of your mother. That was very nearly his weak spot, given his history with his own. When your mother had passed away last year, he had been the very picture of devotion, comforting you wonderfully and reassuring you that he was there for you always.
With that in mind, he squeezed your hand, nodding at you determinedly. "Let's make pumpkin cookies, then."
When you arrived at the kitchen you made yourself at home immediately. It wasn't the first time you'd come down to bake. Coriolanus on the other hand seemed clueless, which you found adorable.
You began to get out ingredients, twirling gracefully around the kitchen. He started organizing them, just for something to do, and you couldn't help your smile at that. It was funny to see the president of Panem unsure what to do for once.
In a sweet voice, you gave him instructions, having memorized the recipe by heart. Crack the eggs, stir in the flour, add the vanilla. It was so domestic to see him like this, and you could almost imagine the two of you in another life, doing this every night.
Once the cookies were in the oven, you twined your arms around his chest, pressing a kiss to his mouth. "Thank you, my love. For doing this with me."
Coriolanus' arms slid around your waist, and he returned the kiss. "Anything for my wife."
Loving the way those two words sounded on his tongue, you leaned up and kissed him once more. His lips moved lazily against yours, a safe kind of kiss that made you feel so loved. Coriolanus was the very picture of doting toward you, and you loved every second.
You kissed him until the cookies were ready, and once they were out of the oven you were sliding one into your hand, the little treat still falling apart from the heat. He smiled. "It doesn't have to cool?"
"It does," you giggled, breaking a piece off and holding it up to his mouth. He dutifully opened his mouth, letting you put it in. Eyes widening slightly from the heat of it, he chewed carefully and swallowed, pecking you on the forehead.
"It's good," he smiled, letting you put another bite in his mouth.
Smiling, you put a bite in your mouth, nearly gasping when it burnt your tongue. Now it was his turn to laugh, and he thumbed your cheek, brushing a crumb away. You saw a vision of the two of you doing this every year from now on, baking pumpkin cookies every year.
And he would be there with you, burnt tongue and all because he loved you.

I think one of the things I love most about family AU satosugu ATM is just because of the way the canon went we never got to see characters have normal happy lives and I love thinking about that. I adore @ziyuanyuan1113 art for this reason (among many). All those perfect little normal family moments that never got to be.
So here's my fave headcanons atm ( @thequeenofsarcaasm and @uotuok might notice a few we discussed today 😅)
Geto and Nanako have dad daughter time where they watch reality TV. Geto is the cattiest bitch known to man and is always horrifically brutal about the show and Nanako loves it. Megumi always says reality TV is garbage and he would never watch it but he always somehow ends up making his coffee in the kitchen the exact moment it's on and stands there making comments. If they mention how he seems to be rather invested he will leave without a word so now they make no comment on him.
When the kids are quite young Gojo comes home to find Tsumiki, Nanako and Mimiko in princess dresses and Geto wearing a crown with his hair being braided. Megumi hands Gojo a crown and explains that they're two films deep into a princess party and have just watched Tangled and he wants to kill them all, he has also been forced into a princess dress. Gojo instantly puts on the crown. Days later they catch Megumi singing "I've got a dream" to himself as he plays with his toys despite having described the princess party as traumatising.
Shoko is a big part of the kids lives, she takes them out when Geto has his therapy appointments and Gojo is on a mission, she spends long weekends with them when she can and her and their group chat is filled with pictures of the kids being adorable or memes.
Geto and Gojo get into routines and home life after years of arguing about household chores. Gojo has to be taught how to tidy properly and constantly forgets. It is always somehow the dishwasher that is the main culprit as he always forgets to check if something is dishwasher safe and he has unfortunately destroyed so many of their kitchen items.
Geto and Gojo do skin care routines together and love relaxing and listening to murder podcasts while they give each other manicures/pedicures, Gojo used to get it all done professionally but much prefers the time with his husband though they keep figuring out the murders are definitely just local curses in their podcasts so that ruins it a bit. Megumi caught Geto sorting out Gojo's ingrown toenail in the front room once and told them to get a room, a disgusted look on his face as Gojo yelled that they did, they'd paid for the whole house actually???
The satosugu house has a family dinner night once a month which everyone attends including Megumi who moved out to be at Jujutsu high. This is usually done by Tsumiki and Gojo as they love doing recipes together from Pinterest and cooking together. The twins are not great at cooking. Nanako cannot make toast without burning it, Mimiko finds it stressful and doesn't like to try. Megumi on the other hand is amazing at cooking but finds his family too loud as there is always music and Geto and Gojo dancing together and embarrassing him.
Later down the line Megumi finds his favourite method of cooking is he and Yuji in their kitchen in their flat with lofi on in the background, enjoying each others company. He finds he doesn't mind the noise or even dancing so long as it's just him and Yuji, and sometimes Nobara if she's staying over. (Nobara is not allowed to cook. She causes fires)

Echoes of Home: 52 - Tsu'na ("presence")
Echoes of Home: FFXIV AU OC – WoLs on Earth
I have not had chocolate in a while. It is a low-level recipe. We soon learn how to make better healer food. But in Earth people apparently eat it for pleasure. Certainly the chocolate Husband brought me does not affect my piety. But I do like the taste, even if it is milder than I remember.
We made chocolate in Eorzea using kukuri beans, which grew in La Noscea. But La Noscea is a collection of islands surrounded by ocean, and the ocean here is a thousand malms away. Husband tells of places called Jamaica and Bahamas, which are even further away. If I want to make chocolate now I must find a source of kukuri beans or a substitute.
Husband had an idea for changing people's perception of us. He said that normal couples argue, so we would seem more normal if we were seen and heard arguing. We have argued before, but the things we argue about are things we do not talk about with Earth people. Husband thought we should argue about things that are stupid and not important, and only sometimes.
Husband called this developing "shtick": "a gimmick, comic routine, style of performance, etc. associated with a particular person."
We tried it with May. We went shopping at her store together, which we had not done before. Her store has sliced bread and "sub rolls", so Husband got one and I got the other and we met at the register and argued about which we should buy. "Sub rolls are better for sandwiches!" "Sliced bread is better for peanut butter!" It was certainly a stupid thing to argue about.
After we argued for a bit, we stopped, we looked at each other, we kissed, and we told May we would take both. She was chewing on her lip. I think she was trying not to laugh at us. Perhaps now I am more a woman who argues with her husband rather than a cat that does not want to be petted.
Husband called this developing "context": "the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood and assessed."
There was not much of the afternoon left, so Husband went to the Pit to check the shed before dinner. I shifted to Ninja, Stealthed, and went to the diner to see what patterns I could observe.
We usually see young people at night. The people during the day were older -- adults eating alone, or in pairs, or with children. I went by the tables, listening to the conversations. Most of them were not about Husband or me, which was encouraging, yet not useful.
The one table with people talking about me appeared to be a family. I recognized the boy and girl at the table; they had come into the diner more than once during our shift. The adults were probably their parents.
"But Mom! All the kids come here at night! It's real popular! And it's safe too…it's not like we're going to parties and stuff."
"I don't know how safe it is. I heard the woman who works here has tattoos and body piercings. She could be dangerous."
"Miz Tsu'na's nice! She's just into comics and video games!"
"Still, you should be home working on your schoolwork."
"We do our studying here sometimes!"
I did not understand "body piercings". Did the woman mean my earrings? I saw several women with earrings in town. I did not understand why they were a problem.
What I did understand was a problem was that we had been worried about people who had seen me, yet this woman had never seen me and was still unhappy about me.
I could at least change her not having seen me. I went into the kitchen, switched to Earth normal, got a serving tray and set out four apple pies from inventory onto saucers. Then I turned. "Mr. Hartman? Can you help me with something?"
He was at the grill. He started and spun around. "Jesus, girl! Where'd you come from?" He looked me up and down. "You need help?"
I gestured to the pies. "How can I make these different?"
"Different how?"
"At all."
He stared at me, then looked at the pies. "They still warm?"
"Yes."
He got a brush from among the tools near the grill and brushed a small amount of butter onto each. Then he got a bowl and poured in sugar and cinnamon and stirred them together. He sprinkled the mixture across the pies, where it stuck to the melted butter.
I am a Culinarian. He is a cook.
"That what you need?"
"Yes. Thank you, sir."
He watched me carry the tray out of the kitchen. I went to the table with the family and addressed the girl. "Hello. I have seen you here in the evening, have I not?"
"Sure! We come here all the…" She stopped and looked at her mother. "...I mean, we did, yeah."
"I thought so. Perhaps you can help me…I am trying something new with the apple pies. Could you try them and let me know what you think?"
The man spoke up. "We didn't order these."
I smiled and set the saucers on the table. "They are free for our valued customers. Enjoy your day."
The boy and girl looked eager. The parents stared at the plates. I took the tray back to the kitchen.
Mr. Hartman was still watching as I came back in. "Advertising?"
I thought of what Husband might say. "Community-building."
"Same thing."
Later, Husband called it developing "presence".

Names & Nudges Who: Rodrigo and Jade ( @jade-escobar ) What: Jade and Rodrigo have a nice talk and get a pleasant surprise!! Where: Rodrigo and Jade's casita When: 6/19/2024; evening.
JADE
Jade was sitting on one of the living room couches, having just finished checking on Pip and Kiwi. She had some unexpected sobbing moments when learning that it wasn't necessarily safe for her to handle her birds while she was pregnant. The most she could do was pass them long treats through the bars of their cage and talk to them from said cage. Miranda seemed to sense her melancholy and hopped onto the couch, nestling next to her thigh. She pressed her face to the side of Jade's growing belly, and then settled like she was preparing for a nice nap.
With a small sigh, Jade turned on the TV but hadn't found anything that was holding her interest. She took out her phone, letting a rerun of *Chopped* serve as background noise while she scrolled through her phone and idly pet Miranda behind her ears. She'd pulled up one of her more frequently visited websites of late and began scrolling where she left off, a small pout unintentionally formed on her bottom lip. Her eyes were on the phone screen though as she slid her thumb up and down the page, momentarily fixed on it more than her surroundings.
RODRIGO
Rodrigo had gone out to get a few things. He wanted to cheer his wife up a bit considering she seemed very upsent upon learning she wouldn't be able to handle their birds while pregnant. He picked up a few muffins and some other goodies that Jade liked along with necessities for the house. Rodrigo was planning on cooking them both dinner tonight. He has already learned so much from Jade and had gotten some recipes from his mother. Once he arrived at their home, he hung his keys on the hooks beside the door and left the mail he picked up there as well. "Hey, honey!" Rodrigo placed the groceries on their table.
He noticed that she still looked a little down so he kicked off his sneakers and then plopped himself right next to her, chuckling when Miranda began to nudge his leg with her head. "Hey....awww. Come here..." He let Miranda climb onto his lap but was referring to Jade and so he wrapped his arm aroud her and brought her close to him. "I got a bunch of goodies and I'm going to make dinner tonight. I was thinking tacos!" He kissed the top of her head. "Aaaannnddd I got two baby name books for us to look at." Hopefully looking at names would help.
JADE
Jade had heard Rodrigo come in and briefly looked up from her phone when he called out to her. "Hey," she called out, not meaning to sound so deflated in that one-word greeting. But she was wearing her disappointment on her face too apparently because of her husband's instant attention to her. Jade leaned into him as much as her rounded belly would allow and set her phone on her thigh so she could wrap her arms around him too. "I'm okay, really," Jade assured even though she *was* comforted by Rodrigo. "Tacos are fine for dinner. Can you make some of tortillas flat for tostadas?" She lowered a hand from around her husband to rest her hand on her bump and looked up to his face as she asked, "Are any of the groceries frozen? Do you need any help putting it away?" She smiled a little and reached for her phone to show him the screen--more specifically, the website she'd been on. "I've been looking at some names online, so it looks like we're thinking the same thing."
RODRIGO
Rodrigo hoped she was okay and massaged Jade's hair for a bit. "It's okay to be disappointed though. Just remember, it's not a permanent thing." He cuddled up next to her and gently placed a hand on her growing belly. Rodrigo leaned in to kiss here there and smiled. "Hi, littles. It's your daddy. I just got mommy some yummy treats so you're both going to be so excited." He nodded at Jade's question about the tostadas. "Anything my wife wants. I'll be sure to make a few for you." He looked over to the groceries and the one insulated bag. "I do have a few perishable things. Don't worry about that. I'll take care of it and you yell out what names have been popping at you." Rodrigo kissed her cheek a few times before standing up to jog toward the table to grab the insulated bag. "Okay, give it to me straight..." He grinned and walked toward the fridge to put away some veggies, fruits, milk and other perishable items he had purchased.
JADE
"You're right and I'm trying to make sure I remember that. It's an adjustment, even if it's only temporary," Jade said, rubbing the side of her bump. She watched Rodrigo talk to their babies and smiled. Rodrigo talking to the babies from inside her belly was one of her favorite things while being pregnant. And when he agreed to tostadas, she ran a set of fingers through his hair and leaned over to kiss his cheek. "Thank you, honey. Let me know if I can do anything to help, okay?" She had been napping on and off when trips to the bathroom weren't a necessity and was feeling a desire to be productive. When he asked about names, Jade turned her phone to herself and said, "Well, I still really love Ciel and Felix. Those are still my top choices." She scrolled a little on her screen, "I also like Mateo, Miles, and Nico for a boy. And for a girl? Renata, Marilyn and Zora." Sticking her phone in her pocket, Jade picked up Miranda to hold her while scooting off of the couch and getting to her feet. She cradled the young cat and gently rubber her head and back. "And I'd still love to include your mom as a namesake for a girl. Have you thought about names that you love?" Carefully, she set Miranda to the floor and lightly waddled to the sink to wash her hands. "Did you get a chance to look through the book before you bought it?"
RODRIGO
"That's it! I think if you keep repeating that, you'll be okay, honey. As hard as it is." He smiled when she rubbed his hair. He affectionally tapped her belly and whispered a few things to the twins before sitting up again. "Of course. But right now, you're going to be a big help by telling me the names that have caught your interest." He chuckled and once in front of the fridge, he began to put things away. He washed the fruit before transferring them to their protective tupperwares and then put away any frozen items he had gotten like pregnancy pops to help Jade with her nausea and some ice cream. He had also purchased two frozen pizzas for lazy days when they both wanted to veg out. He listened to the names as he did this, a smile forming on his face that never left. "Well, I really like all of those choices. It's funny because I had my heart set on Felix too! Look at US twinning." He looked over his shoulder to blos her a kiss and then smiled when he saw Jade waddling to him. "Yeah, so as soon my eyes zeroed in on Felix, it was on the top of my list too. And I like Ciel. That's pretty and different. It's like Cielo. The other names you mentioned are nice. I've always liked Miles too. Renata is very pretty. I like Theodore too and Aurelia too!"
JADE
Jade lightly rolled her eyes at how she could be helpful and said, "Well thank you for putting all of the groceries away, honey. I promise I can be more helpful than that though. I'm feeling pretty good today. I could chop tomatoes or shred the lettuce or something." As she finished sharing the names she liked the most, she smiled at him saying that he was fond of Felix as well. "Does this mean we have a first name for our baby boy?" She washed her hands while listening to her husband and then took a seat on one of the bar stools near the kitchen. "Their meanings are similar. Ciel is French for 'Heaven'. And it just sounds so beautiful and less common than Heaven or Nevaeh. And Felix means 'happy' or 'lucky'. Both have really nice meanings and I can't stop going back to them for names." She watched Rodrigo and glanced at some of the groceries he'd put away, all theile listening to them. Theodore and Aurelia are nice. Aurelia is pretty, and you don't hear Theodore that often anymore." Idly rubbing her rounded stomach, she asked, "Were you wanting to do middle names? Or namesakes?"
RODRIGO
Rodrigo grinned, looking over to Jade as she rolled her eyes and then pressed a kiss against her forehead. "okay, let's get some veggies cut up, chop chop, Escobar!" He teased as he pulled their cutting board from one of the drawers and passed it to his wife. "I think we do! Felix is perfect! Ahh, I love it, honey." Rodrigo smiled as Jade explained the name Ciel and it's meaning. "I do love that. Ciel sounds so pretty and original. It fits our babies!" He nodded at the comment about Theodore. "You're right and I love the name Theo for short but I keep returning to Felix too," Rodrigo smirked at the middle name question. "You're not Mexican if you don't have a million names so yes to the middle names. "Maybe we can honor some important people in our life? Orrrr use one of the names we were considering. Wait, we just decided on two names, babe!" He beamed and turned to face Jade. "This is amazing! Felix and Ciel!"
JADE
When Rodrigo agreed tonher helping out, she smiled sincerely and picked out a knife to use. "You must be referring to yourself witj that hasty talk, *Escobar*," she teased right back. It made her even happier to hear that her husband really liked the two names. Jade chuckled at Rodrigo's middle names comment. "Don't forget, beloved, you're talking to someone who recently dropped one of her *three* middle names." She set the knife with the cutting board and decided to start with the lettuce, rinsing it off in the sink first. His idea of honoring important people in their lives had her thinking but she smiled while tearing off a paper towel to dry the lettuce leaves a bit. She grinned while sitting on the stool again. "Really? Thise are the names you want to give our babies too?" She was a bit giddy thinking about it, knowing that it could have taken them much longer to decide on what to name their children. Smiling still, she began rolling the lettuce leaves and thought aloud as she began chopping. "What do you think about honoring your mother? Ciel Emiliana? And we could go with Felix Theodore, maybe? Or include Theodore as a second middle name?" Outside of her siblings and Frankie, there wasn't anyone whom she knew before Rodrigo whom she would want to make a namesake to their children. "Ciel Emiliana Aurelia Escobar?" she posed, expertly chopping the last of the lettuce.
RODRIGO
Rodrigo laughed at Jade's teasing and then nodded at her response about the middle names. "Oh Lord, how can I forget?" He chuckled some more and pulled out the steak from the fridge along with the radishes, onions, and limes. He enjoyed cooking with Jade now that he's gotten into it. He was thankful for her and his mom who had taught him a lot over the last couple of months. He was able to fend for himself but being able to cook some cuisines made him happy. He'd be able to help his wife when she needed to rest both pre- and postpartum. "Yes! I love the names and I think it fits us and our future kids. I love the meanings of the names. They're perfect." Rodrigo began chopping up the radishes and smiled at the mention of honoring his mother. He listened intently, chopping away and when Jade said Ciel's future full name out loud, he paused. His smile was wide as ever. "That sounds beautiful. Felix Theordore sounds like he's going to be the best gentleman. Sounds like a Bridgerton character honestly. I love it. And Ciel Emiliana Aurelia Escobar? Are you kidding me? Our kids will be royalty. As they should be." He pointed at Jade with the knife and grinner. "I think we've got ourselves baby names!"
JADE
"I'm sure you'll end up saying all of them to me sometime when I'm in trouble with you, huh?" Jade teased. She watched Rodrigo take out various ingredients and smiled proudly at him and his culinary prowess. Her smile lingered and even brightened from him loving the names for their babies. "You like them both? You don't think that Felix should have a second middle name like his sister, do you?" She wasn't sure if Fletcher would be a namesake that Rodrigo would want, or if his own name would be one he would want. "He could be Felix Theodore Fletcher, or Felix Theodore Rodrigo Escobar?" She mulled them both over in her mind while waiting to hear her husband's thoughts. And after she finished chopping the lettuces into shredded strips, she got off of the stool to get a bowl for it and then move on to the tomatoes. "I do love Ciel's name, completely. And I would love Felix's if he had one middle name or two."
RODRIGO
"You know me too well." He chuckled as he looked for their frying pan to sit to the side. Rodrigo put some seasonings on the side and reached for the Adobo and Sazon. He listened to his wife and began to season the steak. "I do like them both. Rodrigo mused over Jade's question for a bit and the more he thought about it, the more it made sense to give Felix another middle name like Ciel. When Fletcher's name was mentioned it made Rodrigo smile as he imagined the look on his best friend's face when finds out he named his first son after him. Felix Theodore Fletcher does sound very strong, right?" He smiled even wider as he poured some olive oil onto the pan. "Fletcher is going to freak out...Felix...do you hear that mijo? What do you think about that?" He let the steak simmer for a bit before washing his hands thoroughly and turning around to face Jade. "I love their names, honey."
JADE
"I hope so, beloved husband," Jade smiled. She'd then given a second middle name possibility for their son and mused a couple of ideas aloud, even adding a third, "Would it feel unoriginal to make Emiliano a contender? Felix Theodore Emiliano Escobar?" She was adding the last bits of lettuce to the bowl and walked over to the sink to rinse the cutting board off while listening to her husband. "Felix Theodore Fletcher Escobar does sound strong." Standing at the counter for a while as she lined up the tomatoes, she chuckled at herself and gave him a guilty smile, "I'm sorry I'm being so indecisive. It's just... it's our babies' *names*." Her cheeks were warm as she said, "Okay! Felix Theodore Fletcher Escobar." She smiled, lowering a hand to her belly as Rodrigo spoke to their son. "How long do you think we can keep their full names a surpr--" Jade cut herself off abruptly and went still. She wasn't sure if she imagined it or if, for the first time, she was feeling kicks on the outside and not just movement from within. "Rodrigo, come here!" she whispered for no sensible reason, setting the knife down and stepping back from the counter. "Let me see your hand," she said, not wanting to move her one hand from the spot where she was feeling one of the babies moving around until she could replace it with Rodrigo's.
RODRIGO
Rodrigo was all smiles as he listened to Jade’s suggestions for names. There was a peace about her that he couldn’t quite convey into words. After everything his wife’s has been through, to see her this happy and full of love made Rodrigo feel like at that moment, there was no better feeling. It was like he wished he could stop time to properly take it all in. “Don’t apologize for that. It’s a big deal …” he watched her with love in his gaze and when she began to pose the next question, Rodrigo already knew his answer but Jade had stopped mid-question. “Hey, are you alright?” He immediately pushed himself off the counter and walked to his wife. At her request, Rodrigo gave her his hand and then placed it over hers. Arching a brow, he positioned himself so that he replaced Jade’s hand and then with his free hand, he held on to the other side of Jade’s belly. He was looking down at first but the moment he felt the little flutter against Jade’s stomach, Rodrigo gasped and looked up at her with a giant smile. “Is that? Is that them??” His voice practically cracked before he let a soft chuckle fall from his lips. “Oh my God…”
JADE
"It is, but.." She chuckled again, "I guess I'm just so used to being more decisive than this." It was one of the conditioned behaviors of hers, but talking about their son's name had her tossing a few ideas her husband's way. Still, she had felt an abundance of happiness while talking about names with Rodrigo and helping him with dinner. Her question about sharing the names was interrupted by the persistent nudges low on her rounded bump. She was surprised to feel it from the outside, and immediately eager for Rodrigo to feel it too. Nodding quickly to assure him she was alright, she let his hand replace hers and she grinned at his reaction. "Yes! I don't know if it's a hand or a foot...or if it's Felix or Ciel but it's definitely one of them." She laughed a little, looking up to Rodrigo’s face. "Maybe they're celebrating them having names now."
RODRIGO
“I know but it’s cute and endearing and I love how excited you are and how much you’re glowing. You’re already the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. You just keep getting more beautiful.” He wasn’t over exaggerating. Rodrigo had instantly felt gravitated towards Jade and it only had grown over time. Seeing her like this, carrying their children, ignited something else in him. Rodrigo was on the brink of tears as he felt the nudges become stronger. “Oh my God!” He couldn’t believe it. They were told they’d feel kicks soon but to actually experience them was a whole other level of amazing. “Maybe that’s Felix’s way of responding to liking his name. You guys… hiiii it’s your daddy. The annoying voice you hear everyday because we all know mommy’s voice is top tier.” Rodrigo smiled at his wife and pressed a kiss against her lips. When he felt yet another kick, his eyes widened like a child in a toy store and he felt his tears fall as he laughed from the excitement. “Oh I love you guys so much. The three of you.” Rodrigo smiled. “You guys having a party in there or something?”
JADE
Jade blushed under Rodrigo's compliments and observations of her. "I've been saying it a lot lately, but I'm so happy. I'm happily married to the best man in the universe, and we have healthy babies growing and getting more and more ready to meet us with each day." Jade had never known love like this or any degree of what love had been expressed to her before Rodrigo. He was her friend, her lover, her advocate, her partner and her husband. And now, he was going to be the father to the two little ones growing inside of her. How could she *not* be radiant when she had someone so amazing by her side? Even as he was feeling the kicks and taking in the moment, she was feeling new waves of love for him wash over her. She tilted her chin up to meet his lips and smiled at him again, and then looked down as Rodrigo spoke to the twins. Shaking her head, she chimed in, "That's not true. We love to hear Daddy's voice, don't we?" Shd rested her hands along the back of her hips until she felt some movement higher up on her bump. Placing one hand there, it felt as though the other baby was stretching from the slow push under her palm. "I think one of them woke the other one up." She grinned and guided Rodrigo's free hand to the second spot on her bump so that he could catch the less active but still obvious pushes from within her womb. And with his hands occupied, Jade reached up to wipe his eyes. "We love you too, honey. Always, always, always."
RODRIGO
"I can tell..." He couldn't help but feel touched by his wife's words. Even if he'd heard the same ones before, it was always nice hearing how happy she was to marry him and think he was the best man in the universe. It gave him a purpose, it gave him something to live up to. He always wanted to be the best man for her. And now they had so much to live for, so much to feel happy about, and to see Jade feeling all of those positive feelings made him even happier. It only continued to solidify the fact that they belonged together and Rodrigo knew that the moment she walked into his life. Somehow, he knew that Jade would be his future wife. "Ehhh..." He grinned and then his eyes widened some more as Jade explained that there was more movement. " He followed her hand to the second spot and he grinned along with Jade. "I can't believe it. Are you guys telling us you love your names? I bet that's what it is." He smiled at Jade's gesture of wiping his eyes and still keeping his hands on her belly, he pressed another kiss against her lips. "Thank you for keeping them healthy and happy in there and for all that you do. You're already an incredible mommy."
JADE
Jade was thoroughly jubilant, beaming at Rodrigo. Even when his gave an "Ehhh" reply about her and their children loving his voice, she was still smiling as she lovingly swatted his arm. "It’s true!" she insisted. And while Rodrigo had his hands positioned to feel both babies kicking, she wiped his eyes and then rested her hands along the back of her hips, eyes looking up at her husband's face. "So, we're decided then? Ciel Emiliana Aurelia and Felix Theodore... Fletcher or Emiliano?" She met his lips when he bent to kiss hers, and then she was back to smiling again. "Thank *you* for all of your help with our babies being happy and healthy." She'd traded her runs and jogs for brisk walks, managed to eat more than she normally would during the day while still keeping things healthy (except when cravings took over), rested when she was truly tired, took it easy when her nausea got the better of her, and overall was listening to her body more. Not only was Jade touched by Rodrigo's gratitude but being called 'mommy' very nearly had her tear up a little. "I love you," she told Rodrigo, gazing up into his eyes.
RODRIGO
He chuckled at the swat on his arm. "That's three since the wedding! Keeping count." He grinned teasingly and then kissed Jade again. "We're decided. The babies have said the final word. And..Fletcher. I have a feeling he's going to be a menace just like his uncle anyway." Rodrigo didn't know that but he figured if Felix would grow up to be anything like his brother, he'd be lucky as hell. "I'm doing the bare minimum my love. You're doing all the work and I'm so proud of you. But you are so welcome." He couldn't believe everything that had happened over the last couple of minutes. Rodrigo then gasped softly, remembering the steak and laughing. "This is why you're the chef." he skipped back to the stove and flipped the meat over. "Well done is better anyway for you." he chuckled and waited for the other side to cook before he could cut it up for their tacos and Jade's tostadas. "Felix and Ciel are going to be so loved. I'm going to make sure they know how wanted they are. I promise."
JADE
"And how many before then?" She asked teasingly. She returned Rodrigo's kisses and listened as he finalized their babies' names. His comments about Fletcher made her smile all over again. But she shook her head, "I'm still grateful no matter how little you think you're doing. She couldn't imagine doing it all alone and knew Rodrigo would never put her in that position. But she watched him hurry back to the steak and pulled a face, "Well done is..." She knew he was right so she trailed off but it didn't stop her from showing her displeasure on her face for a moment, returning to the tomatoes to dice. But talking about their babies with names, identities made her grimace dissolve into another smile. "I know you will, honey. We both will make sure they never go a day in their lives without knowing how much we love them, and that they have more family who love them than they'll know what to do with." She picked up the ends of the tomatoes and threw them on the food waste bin, and then took out another bowl for what she had diced up. "Is there anything else I can help with?"
RODRIGO
"Who knows!" He chuckled, teasing his wife because he enjoyed when she played with him like this. "He'll probably go and have another kid just so he can name it after me." Rodrigo smirked at the thought. "Thank you, my love. You deserve it all more and all the good things coming your way." Rodrigo grinned when Jade commented on the steak. "I know, I know. After the babies I'll make sure to give you all the steak." He watched the steak and then used tongs to pull it onto a plate to cut up into strips for their meal. He continued smiling as he listened to his wife agreeing with everything she was saying. "Hmm, Can you cut up some limes?" He added the cut up radishes and onions to the counter and then moves to heat up the tortillas, mindful to keep a couple on longer to make tostadas for Jade. "We should be ready to eat in a couple of minutes! Did you want something else? I can make some rice if you want?"
JADE
Jade giggled at her husband's response and then some more at what he said Fletcher might do. She loved the relationship between Rodrigo and Fletcher, knowing it was truly special. And she blushed from her husband's continued kind acknowledgements to her. Her thoughts on well done steak weren't lost on him, clearly but she chuckled, "You don't have to do that. It's not like I eat steak all the time. But I *would* be very happy to have sushi for my first post-pregnancy meal." While he cut the steak for them, Jade went to get the limes and rinsed them off before settling herself in front of the cutting board again. She eyed the radishes and onions and asked, "Can you sautée the radishes a bit for me, honey? I read online that raw radish isn't good for the babies." Between the books and online articles, there had been an overwhelming amount of information out there, but whether conscious or not, she ended up a little hyperfocused on the content around foods. She quartered the limes into wedges and then moved to get a small bowl to put them in, setting them next to the bowls she'd set the lettuce and tomatoes in, and then took the cutting board and knife to the sink for rinsing off. "Hmm... no, thank you. Rice sounds tempting but you don't have to make some if you're going to make it for me. I know I'll fill up on it."
After putting the items in the dishwasher and dampening the dish cloth to wipe down the unoccupied counter space, she rinsed the cloth, wrang it out and returned it folded and draped between the 2 halves of the sink. "Okay," she blew out with a slightly sheepish smile and touched her husband's shoulder affectionately passing. "Since one of both of our children decided to settle down right on my bladder, I'm going to use the bathroom and then go sit down."
RODRIGO
"I will absolutely remember that. I'll make sure I order it and everything, get you a little platter of all your faves." He smirked and he knew that Jade knew he wasn't lying about that. Rodrigo would be ready with a platter of sushi for his wife once she's settled after giving birth. It's the least he could do for going through it all. He nodded at her request to sautee the onions and grabbed a small frying pan to do so. "You got it." Once they were flipped over and cooked, he had everything in separate bowls and plates. He figured it would be easier to for them to pick and choose their toppings. Rodrigo enjoyed an onions and radishes with lime taco just as much as a fully loaded. "Um, excuse me? Your husband is a genius. I got some quick rice too. It's really good. I've got cilantro lime and plain white. Which one? it'll be done in like 10 minutes top." He then placed the plates and bowls in front of Jade and kissed her temple.
He chuckled at Jade's words and kissed her quickly again as she waddled toward the bathroom. "Okay, honey! When you return, your tostadas will be ready, nice and crispy." He flipped the now hardened tortilla and waited until his wife returned."
JADE
"Thank you," she said, already looking forward to it even though she still had plenty of time before she could enjoy sushi. She watched Rodrigo sautee the onions and opened her mouth to say something but closed it, deciding not to worry about the radishes since everything was being kept in separate containers. It would also make for easy cleanup later, which she was happy about. She raised both brows at him only to settle her features and smile at him, "You, my love, are brilliant. Cilantro lime then, please? And thank you." She kissed his shoulder after he kissed her temple, already looking forward to the flavorful rice.
"Thank you, we'll be back soon." She made her way to the downstairs half-bath and after using the toilet, washing her hands and pumping some lotion in her hands, she walked back out, rubbing it into her hands and a bit on her wrists too. "My skin has been so dry lately." She walked over to the kitchen again and said, "It smells great in here by the way. Should I fix my plate or go sit down?" she asked, reaching to take a couple of dinner plates out of the cabinet for the two of them.
RODRIGO
Rodrigo smiled at the gratitude. He would be sure to do anything and everything so that Jade could have a smooth pregnancy and delivery. He wanted to spoil her as much as possible post pregnancy too. "Cilantro lime it is." He smiled as Jade went off to the bathroom, remembering to also sautee the radishes. He added a couple to the now clean pan and cooked them for his wife.
When she was back, everything was ready. "Oh yeah? Is that because of the pregnancy? do you need me to pick up some CeraVe? And thank you! Like I said before, I've had an incredible mentor AKA beautiful wife. " He shook his head. "I'll bring everything over and we can make our tacos and tostadas." What do you want to drink?" Rodrigo started to bring the sides to the table as well as the newly cooked rice. He made sure he got everything they needed and took a seat. "Provecho." It was the Spanish version of Bon Appetit. "Enjoy! You too Ciel and Felix."
JADE
"I think so. But no, no. There's lotion in all of the bathrooms, and my toiletry bag, and my purses. And I have some Vaseline in my toiletry bag and our bathroom. I just..." She bit her lip a little and admitted, "I might need help with my feet soon." It was getting harder to put on socks and shoes as her belly continued to expand. She had already switched fully to wearing crocks at work and wore house slippers with a grip on the soles whenever she wasn't barefoot at home. Rodrigo's compliment to her cooking skills and teaching had her smiling all over again. "You're a natural in the kitchen. Look at all this delicious food that you prepared for us!" Hearing his suggestion, Jade nodded, "That sounds like a great idea. And do we still have some Gatorade?" She set their plates down and then took a seat across from her husband. "*Gracias mi amor*," she replied, smiling and going for the rice first. Hearing the twins' names from Rodrigo some more just made her smile all over again. "Tell us how your day was," she requested, setting the serving spoon back into the rice and then picking up two of the crispy tostadas to prepare for herself.
RODRIGO
"Of course! I'll help with your feet and anything else you need. You don't have to ever worry about any of that, okay?" Rodrigo flashed Jade a smile as he finished bringing all the bowls and plates. He stopped at her compliment and kissed the top of her head. "Thank you! Gatorade. Got it." Rodrigo reached for two glasses, filled them with ice in case Jade wanted her Gatorade cold, and brought their beverages. He opted for a root beer he had in the fridge. He placed them on the table and then sat beside his wife. "De nada, querida." He grinned at her Spanish and reached for some steak pieces to build his taco. "Today wasn't so bad. I can't believe how quickly time is going. I'll probably be working two weeks of Summer camp to make some extra money and then take the rest of the summer off into my paternity leave. The babies coming at the tail end of summer couldn't be more perfect. I'll end up missing the first quarter or at least most of it but that's not bad. The school wants me to start working with the sub so that they know how to pick right up. How about your day?" Rodrigo felt satisfied with his bulky taco and took a generous bite.
JADE
"Thank you," Jade told him. She knew Rodrigo would help her if asked or needed it but Jade was still adjusting along the way with the pregnancy and needing help with simple or everyday tasks that she normally had no problem with. But she had absolute gratitude to her husband. While she finished making the tostadas for herself, she thanked Rodrigo for the Gatorade and ice, and listened to him share about his day. "Oh is it a summer day camp at the school or another location?" she wondered while also liking the sound of his plan. "Can you believe Leo, Henry and the twins will be eighth graders? They're sure to miss you in the classroom at the start of the year if they still have you for a teacher. Do you know whomyour students will be yet?" She spooned some rice from her plate and ate it while thinking about how her day had gone. Once her mouth was clear, she answered him. "Mine was good! With things getting set up in our new shop space, it's still a bit challenging to fulfill orders from the old space at the same time. Melissa has been managing a lot there while I've been overseeing things at our new location."
RODRIGO
"Mm..." He wiped his mouth and nodded. "Yep, we're doing summer camp on site but they're going to offer some sleepaway options too as they did in the Spring. So that'll be nice to have the choice." Rodrigo would be able to get some extra pay out of that which would be helpful for all the upcoming life events he and Jade had. "And nope. Don't get me started. I met Leo so young and no he's going to be in 8th grade. The twins have been amazing in middle school and Henry too. They're such a cute group of friends. The good thing is if their parents enroll them in our high school after they graduate next year, the campus is across from ours so I'll still see them and Winter can keep an eye on them all. I'll still be their English teacher so I'll see them after paternity leave is up. Also, the headmistress wants to talk to me about taking up that Dean position. It's great money and I'll still get to teach and help the kids as well." He smiled. "I got a look at my roster for my 1st and 3rd period class and most of the same, some new kids. Enrollment ends in the summer so I'm sure it'll multiply." Rodrigo then took another bite of his taco, smiling as he watched Jade build her tostada. It was nice watching her eat. He nodded as she spoke and glanced over at her. "Do you need help with anything? I'd be happy to help."
JADE
Jade continued to eat the rice as she listened to Rodrigo. She always liked hearing him talk about his career and his students. The way he talked about them and showed how much he cared for them had been a big sign for Jade that he would make a great father someday. As she set her spoon down and broke off a piece of her tortilla to munch on, she asked him, "Do you want to take the dean position? I know you love to teach, but it sounds like she sees this opportunity as being fitting for you." She ate a little more and took her Gatorade to open, pouring some in the glass of ice. "It also sounds like you're more interested in it now. Is that true?" She smiled a bit, hearing that he would have a lot of the same kids to teach for the upcoming school year, and after a few sips of her drink, she told him, "I hope you don't get any kids who are too challenging. You're well-liked but I know there are some kids who like to push buttons just for the sake of testing boundaries, or getting attention they don't get at home." She had seen it herself back when she was in school, and doubted that much had changed in that regard now. When talking about her own day and Rodrigo asking to help, she hummed a little around the bite of steak in her mouth and then swallowed before answering. "I think we're okay right now but I would like some help with my office when the time comes, which should be in the next week. For right now, I just have the computer and printer set up so that orders and contracts can still be handled. But now that I have a more permanent and official office, I'd like to customize it some more."
RODRIGO
He nodded as he finished off the last of his second taco. "I do. It's a great opportunity. I'll be able to do more outreach to the kids and still get the chance to teach. And the salary is pretty good which would be great for our family." He smiled as he began building another taco. "Yeah, me too. I've had a couple here and there that were not easy but ended up being great kids. A lot of these children are just looking for attention and someone to speak to. They don't get a lot of that at home. Sadly, we don't get too many involved parents since they're all busy with work or their lives. It bothers me a lot. Maybe I can help with parent engagement if I take up the dean position. *when* I take up the dean position." He grinned at the thought. " What do you think? Should I do it?" He nodded as he listened. "Hey, I'd be glad to help but also, you should consider hiring an intern. Maybe a teenager who wants something to do over the summer and want the office experience. It would be a great opportunity for the right kid!" He remembered how taking up the groundskeeping assistant's job had helped him in high school. "Something to consider! And with customization, what are some ideas you have so far?"
JADE
Jade continued to listen and slowly eat her food as she did so. When he echoed what she'd said about some students looking for attention that they didn't get at home, she just nodded and broke off another piece of crispy tortilla. She'd tried that once and never did it again, due to the repercussions that came her way after her mother had been notified and they were back home. And when he asked her what her thoughts were, Jade smiled a little. "I think you already know that I wholeheartedly support you. If you remained a full time teacher, you would still be amazing, but I believe that you could do some great things in a new capacity as a dean. Parent and family engagement is a perfect example of that." Jade then sipped some more Gatorade and took a break from eating and casually rubbed a hand across her rounded stomach. "An intern might not be a bad idea. Or maybe just a summer hire to help on and off while everything is still in transition. My office alone wouldn't be all that labor-intensive--not enough to hire more help. But having someone to help Melissa with boxing and labeling equipment in the old location and unpacking at our new location would be great. And promoting the grand re-opening around town would be great once we're ready for it..." Her mind was turning over other potential tasks while she went to pick up another spoonful of rice to eat. "Thank you for this idea. But for my office, I want to keep the color light and simple. There's a filing cabinet that I need to finish putting together and installed, a desk and two guest chairs that I ordered need to be assembled, and I'd like to make it inviting for any consultations."
RODRIGO
He finished off his third taco, deciding to take a small break and leaned back into his chair. Rodrigo smiled at Jade’s words, glad that she was supportive of him taking on a new role at the school. There were so many benefits that made it a no brainer and having his wife on board made the decision that much easier. “I’ll let you know how my meeting with the headmistress goes. Dean Escobar does have a nice ring to it. Now I just have to make sure that whoever subs for me for September is good for the class.” He was sure they would be but Rodrigo had a tendency of being protective when it came to his classmates. He was glad that Jade liked the idea of an intern. “At whatever capacity an intern can help, it would be good to have that set up for everyone’s benefit. You, Melissa, etc. and it’ll be one less thing to worry about. You’re welcome, honey.” Rodrigo kissed Jade’s temple and then gathered some rice on his bowl as he continued listening to Jade. “That all sounds nice and I can help you set those things up once they’ve all arrived so don’t worry about that. Are you full, my love?”
JADE
Jade was slowly eating the toppings/fillings of her tostadas with her spoon and breaking off pieces of the tortilla in between. She smiled at Rodrigo saying 'Dean Escobar' aloud and said, "They'll have to give you a name plate for your desk, or your office door." She knew Rodrigo worked hard and was passionate about his work, which was what made her happy--seeing him happy from merely talking about his career. "You know, I haven't heard you talk about your book in a while. How is it coming along?" She finished the bit of rice that she'd originally put on her plate and then drank some more Gatorade. "I've no doubt that whoever substitutes your classes will be very prepared thanks to you." She smiled and broke off another bit of tortilla, making it her last bit of dinner while listening to her husband. "You're right. It wasn't something I'd considered before since it's just been my team and me. But the added help and providing someone with early work experience really does sound like a great idea. And I always appreciate your help, honey." Her eyes shut while he kissed her temple and when he asked her if she was full, Jade placed a hand across her bump and said, "I think so. It was a really nice dinner, thank you." She looked at her mostly finished plate while thinking about how earlier in her pregnancy, she couldn't always eat much even when she wanted to eat something. But as time went on, her appetite returned and was increasing, even with the occasional bouts of nausea or heartburn. As she scooted her chair back and made to stand, she said, "I'm just going to finish my Gatorade, but I'll get some containers to store the leftovers in." She didn't want Rodrigo to feel rushed and figured she could help out with getting the container and loading the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Jade found smaller containers for the lettuce, tomatoes and radishes, and a slightly bigger one for the rice, steak and onions to go into. She then began loading the dishwasher.
RODRIGO
He sat up with his chest slightly puffed and a smile on his face. "A name plate? Like a gold one? Oh, that's fancy." The thought made him smiled even more. The question about his book did make him sigh a bit. "It's...met some sort of dead end," He admitted and frowned a bit. "I mean, it's not that I'm putting it off completely but I'm missing something. Can't figure out what it is yet. I'll revisit soon, I promise." Rodrigo had to fit it into his schedule. The book meant a lot to him and to his mother. And it would be something nice to have for his children and wife. He smiled when she mentioned the help it would be to have an intern. He looked over his shoulder as Jade stood to get some leftovers into containers and he finished off his last taco. "Do you want to watch a movie tonight? Or catch up on a show maybe?" He was glad it was the weekend and they'd both get some downtime with one another. "Maybe Felix and Ciel will give us a few more hellos before bed." He was hopeful, standing up with his plate and whatever was left over on the table so he could help Jade clean the kitchen. He the placed his hands on her shoulders and dropped a kiss on her left one. "Your turn to pick something to watch."
JADE
"Yes, like a gold one with your name and title engraved on it. If they don't give you one, I would certainly like to." Jade was smiling until she saw Rodrigo frown, which in turn made her own face fall. She reached across the table to lovingly hold his wrist. "You don't have to promise that to me. I'm sorry to hear that it's at a halt right now. When you figure out what's missing, I know that you'll have something great to keep you going." When she got up from the table, she kissed the side of his head in passing. "Hmm, a movie sounds nice. I could watch a good historical drama or a biopic." She smiled at Rodrigo again at the mention of their babies kicking around enough for him to feel some more. "I bet they will, especially after their daddy made us such a great dinner tonight." She rinsed off the dishes that were used for cooking and loaded them one-by-one into the dishwasher. His kiss to her shoulder warmer her from the inside. "Hmmm, how about *Belle*? It's a historical drama and a biopic? And has a bit of a love story included."
RODRIGO
“That sounds amazing and you’re the best wife for even thinking about doing that for me.” Rodrigo looked down at Jade holding his wrist and placed one of his hands over hers. Her support meant the world to him. “Thanks, honey. I know the block will lift at some point.” He smiled at her kiss as he helped clean up. Hearing that the twins may give Jade a little nudge again made him incredibly overjoyed. Rodrigo wiped down the counters all the while listening to Jade and nodded as she spoke. “That sounds like a great choice. I love a good historical drama.” After he cleaned the table, he moved to their living room to prep the firestick and search for the movie. “Don’t worry about anything else ,my love. Come and sit. “ Miranda circled his ankles and he chuckled before picking her up into her arms. “Want to watch a movie with mom and dad?”
JADE
"Well, I love you and I think you should be recognized for your accomplishments--small and big." Jade was happy that Rodrigo wasn't giving up on his book altogether and had faith in him completing it someday. She finished loading the dishes from prep and then went to the table to put the leftovers in containers and add the bowls and plates to the dishwasher too. After putting the leftovers in the fridge and picking up her Gatorade, she guiltily admitted, "I couldn't help it. I didn't want to leave everything out or for you to put away when you cooked for us." She joined him in the living room, holding the plastic bottle in one hand and her bump in another as she eased herself beside Rodrigo and Miranda. Letting out a content sigh from being off her feet, she leaned in to rest against Rodrigo's shoulder. "Have you seen this before?" Jade asked and then casually reached for Rodrigo's hand to place at the front of her bump where one of the babies was stretching a limb against the area.
RODRIGO
Rodrigo was the luckiest man in the world and he knew it to be true. Having the chance to be married to the loveliest, most nurturing and supportive woman made him so happy. "Thank you, my love. And I feel the same way about you." The way they held each other up in their professional life was important to him. He wanted to support her in her business and her future plans and was proud of how much she has already accomplished especially now without Jeanette getting in the way. He smiled at her admission and shook his head. "Well, thank you for that." He was happy to have his wife join his side and he placed his arm around her shoulder when she rested against his. "I haven't actually so don't spoil it!" He teased and grinned when Jade placed his hand over her belly. "There they are again...incredible." Rodrigo kept his hand there, a giant smile appearing on his face. He looked over to Jade. "This has been one of the best days." He then looked down at her bump. "You guys better let mommy sleep tonight and not party all night." He chuckled softly. "streeetchhh!" Rodrigo was so incredibly happy.
JADE
"You've always been wonderful at supporting me. It's one of the reasons why I fell in love with you in the first place." Whether it was her job, her turmoil with her family--her parents in particular--her eating disorder and relationship with food, her conditioned tendencies around perfection and organization, or any small day-to-day decisions, Rodrigo was always supporting her. She could count on 1 hand the number of people who were in her corner to that degree, and that included her husband. Settled on the couch, she smiled and chuckled, "I won't spoil it, I promise! But I'm excited to see what you end up thinking of it." She glanced up at her husband's face and grinned when he did. "There they are," she echoed and then glanced back down at his hand on her stomach. "I'm trying to keep a journal of my pregnancy. I've definitely got to write about tonight in it." She then softly giggled, "I have a feeling that they're going to be pretty rebellious towards you already. Theyre bound to have several late night parties in there until they're here." She craned her neck and tilted her chin to kiss Rodrigo's jaw, and then she situated herself to watch the movie once he got it started. "I love you," she happily sighed.
RODRIGO
"I love the idea of a journal. Will I be able to take a look someday?" Rodrigo kept his wife close and started the movie for them to enjoy. "I can't believe these two are already plotting against me. Curfew is midnight, kids. That's as far as I go. Don't turn me into a pushover." He smiled at Jade's kiss and then leaned in quickly to kiss her belly before leaving more kisses against her cheek. "I love you more. shhh can't argue with me, the movie is starting." He smirked, rubbing Jade's shoulder as he focused on the movie. In the back of his head, all Rodrigo could really think about was how they had figured out their twin's names and he had felt them move for the first time. Rodrigo loved his life with Jade and now, with the addition of their two children, he couldn't have asked for anything better.

um so I had this insanely long, complicated story/movie of a dream last night.
I was some pretty woman who was gonna get married the next day and I guess my husband (who I don't think appeared once in the entire dream) and I wanted macaroni salad (I don't even like that shit???) from this local tiny restaurant. The lady who owned it was super famous for her macaroni salad and people were desperate for the recipe, like INSANE, and she even had a competitor who went to cartoonish lengths to get the recipe but was always unsuccessful.
Anyway I went there and she was like 'well I can't make it today but.... I can give you the recipe 👀' and told me this whole sneaky cryptic plan where she'd leave the recipe on a little note for me to come find at a certain place at a certain time.
Everyone found out and people started trying to kidnap me - housewives, random dudes, some guys I think were part of a cartel - because they were sure I had the recipe (I did not yet) and I was in several weird Mexican standoff kind of situations, with knives and guns. My cat Mochi (I knew her name but at the same time apparently she was not my cat) came in at one point and saved me by biting a guy who was holding a knife to my throat and I took Mochi away with me and said she would be mine and my husband's baby, our only child (which actually does sound 100% like me). I guess I left her safely with the restaurant lady or something, but then I had to go to the drop off site to get the recipe.
When I got there I picked up the note and read it, and it wasn't the recipe! I was like 'omg' and then the competitor's thugs showed up (he had thugs 🤷♀️) and I got kidnapped again, and all the people trying to get the recipe converged in one area. I'm kind of fuzzy on what went down then but it was both weirdly dramatic and fucking stupid, and I was getting roughed up but even when the competitor guy himself came out and pointed a gun at me, I wasn't gonna tell him what was on the note!
So instead I told them the note they had seen me pick up had nothing to do with the recipe, and that the real, recipe-containing note was hidden 'somewhere right around here' and they all started fighting wildly amongst themselves while I ran off to meet Macaroni Salad Restaurant Lady at her restaurant where this entire shit started. At this point it was dawn of the next day.
I was like 'okay why are you doing all of this' and she was like 'I just thought it was time. btw have you talked to your fiance today at all??' and I was like 'no I told him I'd be home in an hour yesterday afternoon' and she was like 'oh my' and gave me a bowl of macaroni salad and then she set this big box full of papers on the sidewalk in front of the store and told me to have a nice wedding.
I went home and I guess I got married????? what the fuck ever
The next day I went to say thank you to the lady, and all the rival 'gangs' who had been fighting each other also showed up looked exhausted and fucked up, and that was when they saw the box with the papers. All the papers had the recipe written on them and the Macaroni Lady had put up a sign saying 'from now on I'll be sharing my recipe with everyone (:'
And around that time I woke up.
There you fucking go, people
#weird dreams#I like to think my husband was very handsome#macaroni salad#I hate mayonnaise though???#seriously what was Macaroni Lady's problem#I like that Mochi got to be heroic though#sorry for interrupting Reiner Day to tell you this bullshit lmfao

Puukko’s Travel Log 2
Passage from Puukko's Travel Log
I'd ne'er put much thought into flying. Snork has though, it seems. A ship that can fly, quite the thing! Imagine, another golden age fer piracy, all the way up in a different wild blue. 'Cept o'course if ye fall overboard, it's less Davey Jones an' more broken bones. At least the burial's still free! I Imagine the hole you'd make oughta be at least six feet deep. Maybe they ought t' tie rope to one another so they just dangle over the side a bit instead? [A small doodle of a grumpy looking moomin with an eyepatch dangling from a rope in the clouds below a flying ship fills the gap before the next line]
Apologies on the grim jokes. Somethin' 'bout adventurin' brings back a bit o' the old me. Beneath my admittedly cuddly exterior these days, turns out I'm still a rough ol' sea dog at heart. Moominmama stuck a big ol' jar of things in my bag when I weren't lookin'. Lots of thoughtful things, little though they may be. A fine letter, as well. Her handwriting's a mite prettier than mine. Gon' stick it the next page over. She's a kind woman, and I've no doubt within her lies a raucous beast. Her husband writes about his "stormy youth", but I'd bet Moominmama's got some memoirs of her own t' write.
Made landfall somewhere flat and dry in what I assume is Italy. Bound t' be a long trek to civilization, but that's all part o' the journey. Snork dropped me off, headed somewhere else. He said somethin' 'bout "making some adjustments" afore he goes off t' find his precious cargo. It's not often I find myself feeling that perhaps I'm in over me head, but if I'm not over me head, I'm at least over me snout. Got to thinkin' so much on people, and being in a strange place, and whether I'll like the food or what have ye, I ne'er even thought on where I were landing or even where I were going. Fixin' t' make camp fer now and see that I can't find my way toward something a lil more populated come morning. The adventure's only just begun.
Day 3
Signed Puukko
--
To Miss Puukko, from Moominmama
Hello dear. It was lovely to have you, if only for an evening. You're always welcome at Moominhouse. Moomintroll seems to think you a legend like from his fairytales! How fun an idea. I hope you don't mind the intrusion, but I've left with you some treats to help you feel more at home on your journey. I'm sure Moominpapa won't mind missing a pinch of tobacco or a drop from his still. You'll be gone before he notices, anyhow. There's a number of things here, but don't be hasty to enjoy them right away. You'll know when you need them! Stay safe out there, dear. The world's changed a lot since you came to the valley, and pirates aren't quite as common as they used to be.
I hope whatever you're looking for, you find it. Or maybe you're hoping it'll find you.
Warmest regards,
Moominmama and the Moomin family.
A large glass jar with a red cloth pinned under the lid. It's filled with a variety of things, most of which are labeled in Moominmama's handwriting. Some have a small note attached, as well. Below the letter, Puukko has inventoried the jar's contents in her journal.
A satchet of tobacco from Moominpapa's pipe bag
A small portion of raspberry jam
A pouch of loose tea, it smells sweet but medicinal. "should you feel ill, or for sour moods"
A dram of whisky, courtesy of Papa's still. "just a taste, don't go overboard!"
A tin of some kind of balm or poultice. "one of grandma's recipes, for cuts and bruises"
An off-white kerchief with a rose embroidered on it
A few cookies. "filling, but not too much"
A single serving of spices with a fish drawn on its wax-paper bundle
#whetstone's whispers#moomin oc#moomins#still no clue if I'm writing moominmama well at all. thankfully for now we're taking a little break from canon characters#hope the formatting is OK it was a real pain to get it on to tumblr

I wrote ✍🏼 this sometime ago. I pray 🙏🏼 this helps someone out there💖:
Inner healing ❤️🩹 isn’t always pretty. Honestly. Some. Times. It’s down right messy. Closing different doors and old seasons. It’s like Alice in wonderland through the looking glass. Yes. I read a lot. Any who. I’m not who I once was. The high school girl. Or the gal at go ministries international or even at the moments in between. I’m now a stay at home mother of three beautiful unique precious little girls.
My point is. There has been so much inner healing ❤️🩹 taking place. I’ve been asking Jesus to restore my heart. to heal even the moments that I truly have blocked out in my mind. I’m done putting those emotional masks and walls up.
I’ve been so torn in the middle of the memories of where I was 20 some
Years ago and the version of me today.
Honestly. Some days. I feel like I’m wondering who I am supposed to be. Other moments. I don’t have a care in the world.
My point is, I can’t help but feel and sense that this next season and chapter of my life-requires complete focus on holding Jesus hand. Not looking to the right or to the left. Wondering if I’m doing everything correctly. If I’ve truly measured
Up. If the 4-5 washes of laundry makes my worth or the dishes done. Or is it simply found in loving my family. Seeing mike and I’s, children growing up before our eyes. But, it’s also found in simply sitting at Jesus feet. Listening to his gentle and still
Small voice in the quiet. not ever having to wonder if I’m good enough or if I have done all I can do. If my looks are perfect for my man. If I’m beautiful enough. To stop the memories of
Yesteryear that at times play in my head. The things kids said many years back not choose my value. Some days. I look in the mirror and I remember what was spoken when I was 8-10
Years old and I cry hoping and 🙏🏼 praying my husband finds me
Beautiful. The quote sticks and stones. Some words it’s
Hard to forget. Especially when kids or even leaders told me: “Jessica. In a lot of ways-you’re alot like a f a t or uh ly person. You’re so socially awk ward that zero guy would ever want you.” Or the one that I’ve begged Jesus to help me forget- “Jessica, your face is u g li er than a mule’s b u t t.” Again. Yes. THese wr just words. Hello? I look in the mirror and I see a perfect hour glass figure and yet, I remember those words.
I pray Mike and I’s, girls never experience the crue lty of painful words.
I pray others always build them up and never tear them down. I pray they never have to built almost an armadillo outer shell 🐚. I pray 🙏🏼 they never experience the need to go zero contact with family. These things make my heart feel older than 37. I pray. They always feel loved 🥰, cherished, and safe.
I have a tendency to pu sh people I care about away. I block some people literally when I’m hurt.
Yes. I am being real. This evening has been like Holy Spirit Healinh. Even in writing ✍🏼 this. I feel honestly like I’ve been gut t ed. because this is me telling the true Jessica. The Jessica that cleans or tries to close her mind & hear t off to not feeling anything. It’s like. If the house is spotless, I helped the girls clean their room, give my oldest daughter makeover, paint 🎨 her nails 💅, make sure the younger two girls happy also, I can feel like I’m doing everything right and those closest to me will be proud of. It also happens in the form of writing ✍🏼 down recipes. Somehow. Even that will heal the broken parts of me. If I can prepare the most perfect Betty Crocker recipes-you know that absolutely best dinners, meals, and desserts; that I’d have finally achieved it all.
Later on, I’ve prayed for. Poured my heart into others. Deep down. I know that I’m still hurting. It’s like. God I’ve done all you have asked of me. Why do I feel like I’m not measuring up. It’s in those moments that Jesus holds me close. Jesus speaks to my heart. I write ✍🏼. I cry 😭 and I pray 🙏🏼. I feel
Better.
This writing even now is 100 cathartic. You see. I’m
Like a ball of 🧶. I keep my heart deeply woven. Writing helps. This is how Jesus ministers to me a lot. It helps me heal and grow. I know this message wasn’t just for me.
I pray this raw and heartfelt message aka truth. Helped someone. 🙂
Thanks for reading 📖 and listening 🎧.

Can't believe she's gone - Send me a situation along with a character and i’ll write a lil blurb (e.g Sirius Black x shy! fem! reader on a late night drive)
fred weasley x wolfstar!daughter
where maybe the leave their kids with y/n's parents for the night and come back to a chaotic house, haha
To victory!
Fred Weasley x fem! wife! Reader
Dads! Wolfstar x daughter! reader
Summary: Y/n’s parents babysit the kids while she and Fred go on a date…safe to say chaos ensues
Warnings: swearing, established relationship, fluffy chaos, mentions of eating, sex and drinking, reader and Fred being a little tipsy and giggly together
A/n: 1k words, I couldn’t help Fred and the reader being chaotic too it’s only natural x
Navigation | Fred Weasley Masterlist | Celebration
You giggled skipping down the path, pulling Fred along behind you with one hand while holding your heels with the other
“Merlin love” he chuckles stopping, causing you to stumble gently backwards into his chest, his hand finding your shoulders to steady you “What’s the rush?" he asks turning you round
You blink cutely up at him, you weren’t drunk by any means but you were a little tipsy. It had been a long while since you and Fred had a proper date like this, one where you didn’t have the kids interrupting, or trying to get them to behave, or had to be home by a certain time.
You knew somewhere in the back of your mind the house would be chaos, two beautifully chaotic children being watched by your adorable twin daughters was certain a recipe for comedic disaster.
However, in this moment, all you could think about was how pretty your husband was and how books and movies were right, you could fall in love with someone over and over again
“You’re so beautiful Freddie” you place your hand on his chest, smiling up at him
Even after all these years together you were still the only person that could make Fred Weasley blush and you grinned, the light dusting of pink lit up by the streetlights made you swell with pride
“You didn’t answer by question lovely” he leans in towards you in a playful challenge, your noses mere millimetres from touching
“Well” your fingers begin to play with his suit jacket “My parents are staying tonight and if our little trouble makers have their way they’ll wanna sleep with dad in his Padfoot form” you bite your lip, giving him cheeky look
Fred’s eyes light up, although it's more like they burn as his face forms into a smirk, grasping your hand and pulling you along
“Freddie…some of us don’t have lanky legs like you…or shoes” you whine shuffling behind him, although your tight clad feet weren’t that uncomfortable on the pavement
He laughs but slows down, turning back every now and again to check you were okay. Eventually you get back to the house, your arms down wrapped around Fred’s as you approach the front door
Fred pats his pockets “You got the keys?” he looks down at you cringing…of course you both would forgot
You shake your head and uncouple yourself from him, begining yo pat his arse
“Love” he lets out a very amused chuckle “What are you doing?” he eyes you
“It might be in your back pocket” you shrug and what starts off as a pretty innocent pat ends up with you just feeling up his arse, not that your husband minds of course, he even lets it go on for almost a fill minute
“Okay” he pulls your hands…yes hands...away to which you pout at him “You can do that as much as you want later” he tells you
You hold up your pinkie and he smiles so widely your heart bursts “Merlin you’re still the cutest human ever” he accepts the pinkie, wrapping his own around yours and pecking your lips for good measure
“Don’t tell either of our daughters that one” you giggle, starting to lead him around the back of the house and hope you can gain one of your fathers’ attention through the window
As you reach the window Fred peers in “I can’t see anyone…” he looks in thought for a moment “…you thinking what I’m thinking?” he wiggles his eyebrows
You grin at him, putting on your shoes and shifting into your bird form, flying a little wobbly up and through the small crack in the upper section of the widow. You shift back, you regret putting back on your shoes as you have to grab the counter to steady you before leaning forward and opening for Fred to climb through
“Nice flying lovely” he winks climbing up with a groan “You know sneaking in was a lot easier when I young-er…oh fuck” he curses, catching his foot on the window and tumbling into you
You both are knocked to the floor with a light thud “Freddie” you whine
“Yeah love?”
“You’re squishing me and you hit my boob on the way down”
He lifts himself up right away, legs straddling your hips as he checked you “Sorry” he bites back his smile until eventually you both start giggling as he cups both of them “Better safe than sorry” he says and you both giggle until there is a small squeal and patters on the floor
“To victory!” you both stare at one of your daughters with a tinfoil hat and sword in hand, riding though on Padfoot, who has his own little tinfoil made leash and armour
You and Fred don’t have time to register as voices come from the other door
“Padfoot! We have the high ground” you hear your daughter squeal as Remus holds her over his head, a tinfoil spear in her hand
Remus stops noticing you and Fred on the floor, as does your daughters,
“Mummy! Daddy!” your daughter squeals scrabbling out from Remus’ arms as he sets her down
You and Fred smile at her, neither of you realising Fred’s hands were still on two particular assets until your elder daughter climbs off of Padfoot and looks at you funny
“Daddy? Are you and mummy playing too?” she asks so innocently
You and Fred look at each other, then to her, then to Sirius who as shifted back and giving your husband a minor death glare, then to Remus who just looks in an amused confusion looking between you and the open window, then to your other daughter, before finally looking down at your breasts and breaking out in a giggling fit
Your parents share a look, ushering your daughters away with the promises of chocolate and leaving you and Fred to your own devices. Deciding that your sober selves could deal with how they had moved the furniture had been moved to create a battlefield and used up all of your tinfoil to make faux weapons and armour…oh and there was a life sized cut out of Victor Krum, that not even your parents could explain, in your bedroom that would scare the living daylights out of you and Fred when you woke up tomorrow

trying to induce labor
masterlist | 1k prompt masterlist | pregnancy series
pairings: diluc, kaeya, childe and zhongli x female!reader (separate)
warnings: pregnancy (so close to baby)
diluc
As the days drew closer, you were getting more and more anxious to get the twins out of you. Not only was your belly huge with both babies, it was causing you a lot of pain. Fed up from another sleepless night of twisting and turning, you put your sneakers on first thing in the morning and waddled to the front door.
“Where are you off to?” Diluc asked, raising his eyes from the paperwork he was completing at the dining room table.
“Your children have overstayed their welcome.” You grabbed a jacket and slipped it over your arms, letting the front hang open since you were too big to zipper it. “I’m going to do laps around The Winery.”
Diluc was by your side now, “Is that safe?”
“Walking in the most effective way to induce labor,” You told him, “But if you’re worried, you can join me.”
Your husband slipped his own sneakers on instantly.
Diluc held your hand as you walked the property line of The Winery. Your feet began aching right away but you pushed through, needing to at least try this method of inducing labor. The thought about meeting your babies finally gave you a rush of adrenaline and you walked for thirty minutes before your body began showing restraint.
When you stopped to lean against a nearby tree, Diluc was in front of you with a concerned look on your face. You rubbed your belly and tried to catch your breath, feeling sweat drip down your forehead.
“Is it happening?” He asked, a hint of excitement rubbing off on his tone.
You shook your head, “I just need a break.”
Diluc held back the frown trying to creep on his face. Like you, he just wanted to meet the twins as well. “Can you make it back to the house?”
You glanced up to look at the house. It wasn’t too far, just past the vineyard, but your throbbing back was a good enough reminder for you to take it easy. “I’m afraid I’m going to fall,” You admitted sheepishly, “Maybe we should just stay here for a while.”
“Nonsense,” Diluc said. Before you could recognize what was going on, Diluc had lifted you off your feet and was carrying you bridal style. Upon seeing your bewildered expression at lifting both you and your babies, Diluc continued. “I’ve been working out for a reason.”
kaeya
Kaeya couldn’t cook. He tried, he really did, but time after time dinner ended with take out. So when you suggested trying spicy foods to help induce labor, Kaeya knew this would be a job for someone else.
You watched intently as Noelle leaned over the stove in your kitchen. The smell of spices and flavorful armonas filled your house and your stomach rumbled everytime a waft came near you. Her eyes glanced between the open cookbook beside her and the boiling pot of something on a burner.
“Sit, sit,” Noelle instructed poliety, “Dinner’s almost ready.” You made Kaeya set the table as you and your husband sat down. Noelle finished up in the kitchen before she brought over a serving bowl and placed it in the middle of the table.
“What is it?” Kaeya asked. He peered over the bowl and, like yours, his stomach growled in anticipation. “It smells great.”
“It's a spicy stew but I added some extra Jieyun Chili peppers. Barbara gave me the recipe.” Noelle smiled sweetly and poured some of the stew in Kaeya and yours’ bowls before serving herself. When Kaeya opted out in cooking your spicy dish, he immediately ran to Noelle who had no problem serving you dinner.
Kaeya thanked Noelle before digging into his meal. You hesitantly watched Kaeya, knowing how he couldn’t handle spicy food, and almost burst out laughing when he almost spit the stew back into his bowl.
His tongue hung out of his mouth, “I think that could kill someone.”
Noelle giggled at his comment and tasted the stew herself, beaming at the taste. Unlike your husband, she didn’t seem to have an issue with the heat level. Kaeya shook his head at you in disbelief.
“Now I’m nervous,” You said, half jokingly and half serious. You poked your fork into a piece of beef and placed the food in your mouth. Instantly, your mouth lit up in a fire. You held back a cough as you chewed the food. Kaeya stared at you in disbelief, watching your eyes water from the spices.
Kaeya rubbed your bicep as you grabbed another forkful of the stew. “If this doesn’t work, I don’t know what will,” You said, “There’s no way I’m going to have taste buds after this.”
childe
When Childe comes home one day, he doesn’t see you resting on the couch like usual. He follows the light down the hall and finds you in the middle of the floor in the bedroom, your body stretched in a weird position.
One of your arms was standing high in the air and the other was low to the ground, causing the top half of your body to be vertical. You were taking mediated breaths and counting slowly before you switched sides.
“What are you doing?”
Without opening your eyes, you responded to your boyfriend. “I’m doing yoga,” You said flatly, “It’s time for Nikolai to come out.”
“Oh,” Childe takes a seat on the edge of the bed. “Is he?”
“He won’t move an inch.”
Childe smiles to himself. Any day now your son would be arriving and he could feel the excitement radiating off your body. He was three days overdue, preferring to stay in the comfort of your womb, but you were ready for him.
“I’m surprised,” Childe continues, “I thought you wanted to wait for him to come on his own.”
You stood up straight and opened your eyes slowly, placing your hands on your back to try and crane out any kinks with your knuckles. “I was,” You started, “But I changed my mind. I want to hold him so badly.”
Your boyfriend smiles again, this time at you. He agrees with you but decides not to say anything, knowing inducing labor was your decision and your decision only. Childe stands up and comes near you, “Let me help.”
With the help of your boyfriend, you get on the ground and prop a knee up. Childe holds your hips as you shakily lift the other leg into the air and extend it straight. He reminds you he has a solid hold on you so you lift your opposite arm, replicating the action.
“This is hard,” You complain, wanting to put your leg down already.
“You got this,” Childe grins, “Do it for Nikolai.”
zhongli
“Archons, it’s cold out.”
“Perfect.”
Zhongli’s eyes watched you intently as you stood at the edge of the dock at Liyue Harbor. You were bundled in several layers and your hands rested on your large baby bump. There were even some premature snowflakes floating down from the sky and resting on your nose.
You never thought you would be someone to induce labor but when a week had passed past your due date, you knew you should at least try. You tried the common methods first (eating spicy foods, walking, doing yoga, etc.) and when none of them worked, you and Zhongli decided to look up some old wivestales in books. The easiest one to try was extreme cold, since it was already January.
“Can you feel anything?” Your husband asked, readjusting the hat over your ears for the tenth time that hour.
You shook your head, “Not really.”
Zhongli caught a snowflake on his finger and rubbed it off on your cheek. You giggled and leaned into his warm side. When you spoke, your breath turned into visible puffs of air. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were the Cryo Archon.”
“Oh, hush,” You playfully said, rolling your eyes. “Do you want to meet Jia or not?”
He reached forward to take one of your hands in his. He squeezed your fingers, instantly warming them up, “Of course I do. I just don’t want us to freeze before we can.”
a/n: sorry zhongli got the short end of the stick again </3

It’s Alright Darling (Sherlock x Reader)
Ok... Was this requested? No. Am I writing it cause anything Henry Cavill related makes me feel happy? Yes. Enjoy!
Being Sherlock Holmes assistant was something a lot of people would kill for and that makes it even better if you think about the irony of it. However, since Sherlock wasn’t a normal person to mostly everything he did, he had decided to hire a woman as his assistant, Mycroft called him mad and unhinged almost every time he brought up her name. (Y/n) was one of the most intelligent people he had ever been around, combining that with a charming personality was the recipe to success.
“Well, well, well I see my brother is full of surprises”
“Hello there Mycroft is so nice to see you again as well”
She spoke in an clearly ironic tone as she took of her gloves, she was never a fan of hats other than the occasions she knew she would be under the sun for hours. As she walked in the living room area for what seemed like their childhood home, Sherlock had requested for (y/n) to arrive a day later than the brothers, knowing that her and his older brother were like oil and water he chose to “prepare the grounds” first.
“Where is the young little Holmes?”
“Inside, talking with miss Harrison”
“Alright... who is miss Harrison?”
“Miss Harrison is an excellent teacher and a friend of mine, come to think of it maybe you should go in and ask her to take you as well... you might be a bit old but I’m sure she can make an exception”
Mycroft found (y/n) intolerant, she was dismissive, unladylike, mouthy and a feminist, he still does not understand what asset do she brought to his younger brother. She only smiled while sitting at one of the chairs
“I will let you know I was an excellent student in all my academic achievements, although I suppose you were one as well that doesn’t really prove someone’s intelligence or manners, right mister Holmes?”
Sherlock let a laugh be heard at (y/n)’s quick response, even though he would never take sides and sometimes wanted them to get along, he had accepted that it would never happen and simply enjoyed the situation.
“Amused brother? Of course you are as mad as her since you didn’t only hire her, you kept her around and brought her in my home”
“Now Now mister Holmes, what type of gentleman would you be if you threaten to through out not just a lady but your younger brothers guest, unfortunately you are just further proving my point about our little quarrel”
Before he had the chance to respond a young girl walked in, wearing a white undergarment dress and looking disheveled. The girl who (y/n) could only assume was the infamous Enola didn’t even notice her being in this room.
“No, don’t do this to me. Let me remain happy, I am happy here”
“You are a young woman now Enola, you need an education”
“Test me, on anything you think I need to know in order to be sufficient for this world”
“If she taught you so well, you wouldn’t be standing in your undergarment in front of me”
Silence fell in the room for a quick second. His disgusting answer to his own sister made (Y/n) get on her feet, Enola quickly let her gaze fall on the young woman that was now in her house.
“Why is that a problem Mister Holmes? Undergarments are scandalous for the men when a woman they are interested in wears them, she is your underaged sister”
“This is a family matter, it does not- I repeat- does not concern you”
“Of course it does not concern me, but it does concern me when a young girl is being held accountable for walking in her home, to her brothers, completely covered and still being shamed for it”
Enola understood by that quick argument the lady was not here because of Mycroft, so it only meant she was Sherlocks company, she is not his wife since if not invited he would have at least informed their mother, so perhaps a girlfriend?
“Enola you have no hopes of making a husband out of your state, neither do you... miss (y/l/n)”
“I don’t want a husband”
Enola claimed, raising her voice at the ridiculous claim her brother made. Even though they haven’t been properly introduced they had developed a mutually liking for each other, at a brief look they seemed to have the same outlook on life.
“And that is another thing you need to have educated out of you”
At that Enola turned to look at her other brother, Sherlock, who had remained radio silent throughout this entire conversation. Enola kneeled in front of him, as Sherlock looked at her and then broke eye contact to look down at the book he was holding.
“Sherlock, Don’t let him do this to me”
“You are his ward”
“Make me yours. Guide me. Teach me. For him I am nuisance. For you-”
“Enola. I’m sorry, but it’s out of my hands”
“Just like his cruelty to our mother was out of your hands”
Cruelty to their mother? No, Sherlock would have never allowed his mother to go through anything, he is a man of honor... isn’t he? (Y/n) felt her stomach tighten as she saw this tragic scene unravel, she hoped Sherlock would have accepted and took her in.
“She is not dangerous. She is remarkable and always has been. And if you still can’t see that then shame on you both”
“So remarkable she left you in my care”
Mycroft shot back. (Y/n) could almost feel the pain the young girl felt, you could see it in her eyes how that was an arrow straight in her heart. (Y/n) decided to step up and try to help, she approached the young girl with a kind smile and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Come on, let’s get you out of here to calm down. Seems like your brothers don’t share the same love and admiration you do for the woman that made them who they are”
“I am a self made successful man”
“but you wouldn’t be no man if the woman you frown upon had not broken her hips and went through hours of painful labor. Take that as some food for thought before you school me on my manners”
Sherlock looked at her in awe, as she stood proudly next to his sister and became the shield he should have been. Standing up for a girl you haven’t even spoken to or knew before this.
“Let’s go young Enola, seems like a woman’s presence is wanted here only when she does as she is told”
-
“Come in”
“Can I open this door and be promised that I will remain safe or are you holding a dagger and you are ready to take me out of this world?”
“Don’t be ridiculous, dagger you in your own household? I would probably wait to poison you a few days after we leave and write the paperwork of you firing me”
He smiled at her plan as he closed the door in her room. It was already nightfall and the only light here were a few candles, he had let her take a breather after the unfortunate event that had occurred previously. Even though he wasn’t the one that she went toe to toe with, his silence was as obnoxious to her as his brothers loud ignorance towards the female gender.
“You are upset”
“Of course not, why would I be? It’s not like you let that man embarrass his own sibling and talk down to his mother without her being in the room”
She had remained sited in the chair next to the table, a book open that seemed like she was writing on rather than reading it. He was aware she was holding a journal, he didn’t blame her for it, having a job like she did she was in desperate need of something to keep her sane.
“This is a very wary subject”
“I am aware of it, I just can’t seem to understand why not comfort her, try to change your brothers opinion, anything that will show you care for her, you do care for her, right Sherlock?”
“She is my baby sister (y/n), that’s a given”
She closed her book. She ran her hand through her through her hair and got up from her sit, her hands going in front of her torso at a defensive demeanor, even when Sherlock should be cold or show his higher position to her, he couldn’t help but seek some type of truce with her, how could he not? She looked so beautiful even when she mad at him, the eyes he was so caught up in looked at him with fury, her delicate feature went harsh and she was dressed more... lightly now.
“I spoke with her earlier, she was in the garden”
“I know, I saw.”
“She asked me about you, asked me if you were my lady”
Her eyes went wide for a split second before regaining her composer and turned her back to him. She approached the window before she spoke.
“If you think of how she became familiar with me, she was probably certain I wasn’t even friends with your holier than God brother”
“You mustn't be angry at me”
“And why is that?”
“Because other than my sister and mother, I care for you and for your opinion about me”
She remained silent. Not only because she was caught off guard by his comment, she also didn’t know what he was talking about. Sherlock stepped closer to her, his steps making her heart flutter and her palms sweaty. He stopped when he was right behind her, he wanted to hug her, caress her, kiss her, still he was uncertain of how she would react.
“I still remember the night you got kidnapped”
Someone that Sherlock had helped uncover had escaped prison and kidnapped her. Luckily, she was retrieved safely yet again she was still shaken up by the scary experience, when Sherlock found her awake next to the fireplace she was so vulnerable and grateful to be alive she launched at him and kissed him passionately.
He shared his bed with her, in the middle of the night though she had gotten up and left, when morning came she acted like nothing had happened, barely even looked at him in the eyes for a week.
“Please Sherlock don’t pick at my brain”
“Why did you leave that night? Did you regret it that much”
“That night... was the most blissful I have ever been.... However you are still my boss Sherlock”
“That’s all I am to you? Your boss?”
(Y/n) turned to look at him, tears welling up in her eyes. Those eyes would be the death of him, it was with no doubt the window to her soul, that pure gentle soul of hers.
“What am I to you then Sherlock? This wasn’t just about me”
“You are.... what I never knew I needed”
His hands went up to her forearms instinctively, a soft caress that made her think his hands were made out of the finest silk, she felt goosebumps as he touched her. Her lips parted slightly as she took in a heavy breath, her eyes searching for a hint of a lie in his words.
“Sherlock”
“Shhhhh, It’s alright darling. You don’t have to say anything”
At that he slowly leaned in, his lips on top of hers at a shy and gentle kiss. Her hand went to his neck, bringing her torso to touch his as the kiss deepened, her entire body felt a rush go through it as they should the passion they held for each other with this kiss. As she pulled back her fingertips traveled to his face, taking in his attractive features
“I had almost forgotten how good of a kisser you are”
“Oh love, you will never forget it ever again”

Sophia Loren has a pat on the cheek for her husband, film producer Carlo Ponti, and a smile for her son, Carlo Ponti Jr., as the baby makes his first public appearance in Cantonal Hospital here. The 34-year-old actress gave birth to the child, her first, on Dec. 29th.
(..)
So, in early 1968, when I got pregnant for the third time, I moved to Geneva. I chose a hotel close to the doctor’s office, took to my bed and waited patiently for him to perform a miracle
He concluded that my body wasn’t producing enough oestrogen, which was stopping the egg from attaching to the uterus. This, however, was easily solved with oestrogen injections.
Meanwhile, I had months of forced idleness on the 18th floor of the Hotel Intercontinental.
To distract myself, I spent hours recreating the recipes from my Naples childhood — and years later, published them as a cookbook. Finally the day came when I was due to have a C-section. I hadn’t slept a wink the night before; the truth is that I didn’t want my pregnancy to end.
And I was scared. I didn’t want to share this child that was all mine with anyone else. A few hours later, Carlo Jr. was born — the greatest, sweetest, most indescribable joy I had ever experienced. I was completely overcome by emotion when I held him in my arms.
Afraid that I might wake up from my marvellous dream, I proceeded to shut myself off from the world. It was warm in my hospital room, and I felt safe, me and Carlo Jr, alone together, in a soft cocoon of endless gazes and caresses.
As the days passed, I was afraid to leave my room, worried that my little one might catch a cold. And I simply didn’t feel like going home.
So I grew increasingly rooted to my clean white room, where I was shielded from all danger, and refused to think about tomorrow.
After 50 days, which seemed to go by in a flash, my doctor told me: ‘Sophia, you can’t stay here for ever. Life is waiting for the two of you out there . . .’ I just looked at him, terrified at the thought.
But, finally, after nine months of barely being able to move, and almost two months of cocoon-like existence in my hospital room, I agreed to go forth and face reality.

Absentee
Character: Jason Todd x Fem!Reader
Summary: When Y/N fell in love with Jason Todd, she didn’t realize the normalcy she lost would become such a problem in their relationship. And she didn’t know how much pain it would cause to hide her boyfriend’s secrets.
Word Count: 4,600 – One Shot
A/N: This is probably a really personal story. And you all might hate it or not relate to it. But oh well...
Y/N had her music playing in her headphones just quietly enough so she could hear them announce when her plane was boarding.
Between corporate holidays and what was left of her vacation days for the year, she was able to go home for a week and a half.
Only, she was hoping that this year she wouldn’t be going home alone.
But when Jason got sucked into a case two weeks before their flight back to her hometown, she knew there was no way he’d be accompanying her.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I just–“ Jason had tried to tell her when she realized they weren’t going to be spending the holidays together.
“You don’t have to apologize. There are more important things right now than meeting my crazy family,” Y/N laughed lightly. “But they’ll be bummed.”
Jason still looked so down guiltily. He knew that Y/N had been downplaying how excited she was for her family to meet him.
Yeah, Y/N was upset, but her family was even more upset. Being in a different part of the country and them never putting in the effort to visit her, they had yet to meet Jason. Even when the two of them had been dating for 10 months.
Y/N had met all of Jason’s brothers, along with Bruce and Alfred. It had all been against his will, his family strategically running into them or invading his apartment when they knew Y/N would be there. Jason acted annoyed by it, but Y/N knew he was happy for her to meet them and without him having to act like he cared.
But Jason had only ever waved on FaceTime to her family or sometimes answered calls from them when Y/N left her phone next to him and went to another room.
It wasn’t like Y/N needed her family’s approval. She knew what she wanted and what was best for her. Their opinions didn’t hold as much weight with her as they thought.
But Y/N also had never introduced her family to a boyfriend before. Things either fizzled out before then or the relationship was so casual that the thought of even mentioning a boy-toy’s name in passing to her family made her want to jump out a window.
———
“So Jason couldn’t get out of work last minute?” Y/N’s older sister, Kate, asked as they drove to her house after picking her up from arrivals.
And so it began.
“No,” Y/N answered. “His boss is sort of an asshole. He’s a workaholic and can’t fathom why anyone else would ever be anything different.”
The truth was that Jason didn’t really have a job. When it came to income, Jason was resourceful. He was still a hitman for hire. But once the killing part of that job stopped – which was long before Y/N ever met him – it didn’t rake in as much money. Most of his money was either stolen from criminals or he would work odd jobs here and there.
However, the lie Jason and Y/N had agreed on was that he was a mechanic. And Jason did know absolutely everything there was to know about cars and motorcycles. He’d even promised Y/N that if she ever decided she wanted him to drop the vigilante life, he would do just that and start his own mechanic shop. But Y/N knew better than to ever ask that of him.
“Cars don’t stop breaking – even around the holidays,” Y/N joked darkly.
“Mhmm,” her sister answered.
Y/N already knew what her family thought of her boyfriend’s “job”: it wasn’t good enough for them.
The only reason they let it slide was because they knew Bruce Wayne was his adoptive father. Therefore they interpreted Jason’s ‘lack of ambition’ as his personal rebellion against his privilege and upbringing.
“Mom said he sent flowers and a bottle of wine to the house today and apologized for not being able to make it,” Kate added.
Y/N quickly looked at her in surprise.
“So I’m guessing from your reaction that it wasn’t your idea,” Kate teased.
“No,” Y/N shook her head. “He didn’t even tell me he did that.”
That was a Bruce Wayne move for sure. It didn’t matter that Jason had a rocky relationship with him, the Wayne charm and manners were deceivingly contagious.
————
Later that night, when everyone was in bed and Y/N decided to finally unpack. And she was surprised to find two of Jason’s t-shirts hidden in her bag. They were her favorites of his, always stealing them. Mostly she wore them to lounge around the apartment or to wear to bed. But her favoritism was in no way hidden.
Jason must’ve snuck them in her bag while she wasn’t looking.
Y/N smiled as she grabbed one of the shirts and raised it to her nose. It still smelled like him.
It was enough to make her feel guilty for not having called him yet. She’d texted him that she landed, but other than that, she’d been pretty silent.
She grabbed her cell and dialed.
“Hey, you.”
He always answered her calls as if they made his day, even if she’d called him multiple times that day already. His reaction to her calls never failed to make Y/N smile.
“I didn’t really expect you to pick up,” Y/N admitted.
“Always got time for you,” he answered lightly.
But then she heard background noise: wind blowing, distant sirens, people shouting at each other nearby.
Jason was on patrol. Or maybe he was doing some recon.
But Y/N knew not to ask.
“I see some of your clothes made the trip,” Y/N commented through a smile. Jason could hear the smile in her voice. “Those t-shirts have a mind of their own…”
“And my mom thought the flowers and card were sweet,” she added.
“I might not have met her yet, but I know that’s not gonna be enough to win her over,” Jason answered darkly.
Y/N didn’t say anything, because they both knew he was right.
“Flight was fine?” Jason asked, changing the subject.
“Mhmm.”
“I miss you.”
Y/N shook her head and laughed. “No, you don’t. I’ve been gone for like 12 hours.”
“Doesn’t matter.”
She rolled her eyes. “Always the romantic.”
More sirens could be heard. They sounded closer this time. “Are you being careful?” All playfulness had disappeared from her voice.
“Of course.”
Y/N sighed. “Jason, I’m serious. Please, be safe.”
“I know. I know. Don’t worry about me.”
“You know that’s not gonna happen, J.”
He ignored her comment. “I love you.”
“Love you, too.”
————————
To say Y/N’s time at home was rough…was an understatement.
If Y/N wasn’t being asked a million questions about Jason, she was being interrogated for why he wasn’t there. And if Jason wasn’t the subject of the conversation, people acted like she was single – some even talking about setting her up.
Y/N realized she preferred the former.
Every year, her family threw a giant party.
And for the past five years, Y/N had always been the only one that was single. All of her siblings, all of her cousins, all of their family friends, all of their neighbors…every single one of them had a significant other during those years.
Everyone...except her. Now, this year, all of them had kids or were expecting.
It was exhausting.
Sometimes Y/N felt like they were all robots programmed to do the exact same things at the exact same time – no original thought to be had.
Y/N would be lying if she didn’t spend most of the party wishing Jason was at her side. He would make fun of awkward situations with her. And he would stick up for her when her family teased her a little too much.
The other thing Y/N wasn’t prepared for was unintentionally studying her family’s boyfriends or husbands. She felt like she was watching everyone’s relationships through a different lens now that she herself had her own. And to put it as kindly as possible…she was not impressed.
Y/N noticed how none of the men offered to help in the kitchen, instead deciding to sit on the couch and watch football and scream at the television. Or how when her cousin handed her son to her husband, and he acted like he didn’t even know how to hold the one year old. And later, when his diaper needed to be changed, he handed him back to his wife as if he had no idea how to do it himself.
Yet her family was stuck on Jason not being able to visit or that he was a mechanic.
What did someone’s job matter if they treated her like she was their world and he the best thing to ever happen to her?
If Jason were here, he would be in the kitchen cooking. And if they had a kid, it would be a 50/50 job – not a burden only Y/N had to bare. He would try to get to know everyone because he would want to know the people who raised the woman he loved. He’d make sure to check in on Y/N every once in awhile, making sure she didn’t need anything.
Thinking about it all made Y/N miss Jason even more.
Needing to get some air, she decided to go outside and let the winter chill refresh her. It had been getting too hot in the house.
Y/N pulled her phone out of her back pocket and tapped Jason’s name.
“Hey, you.”
“Hi,” she sighed.
Just hearing his voice made her feel a bit better and tension left her body.
“What’s wrong?” Jason quickly asked.
“Nothing. Just…wanted to check in.”
For a second, she was going to explain that she had the sudden realization that all the men connected to her family were trash. And witnessing it was making her miss him more. But she didn’t really want to waste her breath and she figured she’d just come off dramatic more than sincere.
“Are you at your apartment?” She asked quickly.
“Yeah, I’m gonna leave for patrol in a bit…”
Then Y/N’s mind suddenly thought, ‘Fuck it.’
“Jason?”
“Yeah, kid?”
“If you were here…” She began softly.
“Mhmm,” he encouraged.
“What would you be doing?”
Jason was a bit confused by the question for a second. But he slowly got what she was asking.
“Well,” he took in a shallow breath. “I would’ve stolen Alfred’s famous chocolate chip cookie recipe and whipped up those bad boys to bring over. And I’d pretend to care about football with your dad.”
That made Y/N laugh.
“I’d help your mom in the kitchen, even when she pretended not to want it.”
“Really laying it on thick, huh?”
But Y/N knew he was right. Jason was the cook between the two of them – and a good one, too. He also was a helper. He couldn’t sit back and watch someone do something while he did nothing. No matter how big or small.
“Shhh,” Jason reprimanded and then continued. “But most importantly, I’d try to get as many embarrassing stories about you as I possibly could.”
“Well, thank goodness you’re not here then,” she teased with a roll of her eyes.
Jason was quiet a second before he asked, “Wanna tell me what’s wrong now?”
“Nothing’s wrong. Just miss you.”
“I miss you, too.”
“All my family’s boyfriends and husbands are losers. And I guess I’m just now realizing it.”
“Ahh,” Jason noted.
Now he really knew why she’d asked her question.
“It’s snowing here,” he told her as he looked out the window. “It’s almost making Gotham look pretty.”
“Are you going to the manor for Christmas?”
“Probably not,” Jason answered.
“Jason,” she grumbled. “What are you going to do instead? Sit in your apartment alone?”
“I’m gonna patrol. Crime doesn’t take holidays, Y/N.”
“Cheesy,” she pointed out. “Please be with your family, Jason. I don’t want you to be alone. OK?”
“I’ll think about it.”
Y/N knew that was as good as it was going to get.
Then she felt something on her cheek and she looked up. “Hey, it just started snowing here, too…” She told him with her head tilted back.
“I love you,” he sighed.
“I love you, too. Be careful tonight, Jason.”
Y/N gave herself a few more moments outside before returning to the party.
When she walked back inside, she immediately heard her name. But no one was calling to her.
She was being talked about.
She recognized her mom and sister’s voices, and then a couple of her aunts. They were talking around the corner, completely unaware that Y/N was in hearing distance.
So Y/N couldn’t help but linger.
“She says he works a lot. Every time I facetime her, he’s never there,” her sister Kate told the women. “I wouldn’t even really know what he looked like if it weren’t for her photos that she’s sent me. He doesn’t have any social media.”
“I just can’t believe he couldn’t get work off. Around the holidays?” Her mom added in utter disbelief. “Sounds like it won’t be surprising when she finds out he’s been unfaithful,” one her aunts commented.
The group hummed in agreement, but also disappointment.
“He doesn’t even live in Metropolis. He lives in Gotham,” her mother supplied, only further backing the idea that Jason wasn’t committed. “God knows why. But I hate that Y/N is constantly going there. No good news comes from that city.”
Y/N clenched her teeth in anger.
If only they knew the truth about Jason.
He was a hero and risked his life every night for an entire city – a city that had done nothing but hurt him. And he was 20 times the man than any of the men in their family.
She just wanted to scream at them for being so judgmental about a person they’d never even met.
But she couldn’t.
So Y/N stormed up to her childhood bedroom and decided she had enough of the party.
She shouldn’t have come home for the holidays. She would’ve rather waited for Jason to get back from his Red Hood work than listen to her family misjudge the first man she ever truly loved and wanted to share with them.
————————
Y/N was so tired when she got off the plane.
She felt like a zombie as she walked to baggage claim to grab her duffle.
What she wasn’t expecting was to find her boyfriend waiting for her in arrivals.
Y/N had told him she would just get a car.
But Jason seemed to have other ideas.
Y/N’s entire face brightened at the sight of him.
She practically ran to him and jumped into his arms.
Jason chuckled at her enthusiasm.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, her words muffled by his body.
“I thought I’d surprise you,” Jason said through a smile before he kissed her head.
Y/N didn’t respond, just held him tightly.
“Come on. Let’s get your bag and head home,” he finally told her.
—
“So, how was it?” Jason asked once they got into his car. Y/N shrugged, “It was fine.”
Her lack of details and curt response was enough warning for Jason to realize things were not totally fine between them.
He didn’t bother asking for more details during the car ride home. Instead, he answered all her questions about what he had been up to, how the case was going, if his family was alright.
Once they got back to Y/N’s apartment in Metropolis, the grace period seemed to be over.
Y/N had grown quiet as she moved around her apartment, unpacking and putting all her things away.
Jason walked into her bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed as she folded clean clothes. “This might be a shot in the dark. But I can’t help but feel that you’re not happy with me,” he finally pointed out.
She didn’t answer or look at him, just kept folding.
“Did something happen while you were at home?” Jason pushed.
She still didn’t answer. So Jason reached for her hands, holding them gently.
“Hey, talk to me. What’s going on?”
“I just didn’t expect how hard it was going to be…” she finally whispered with a bowed head.
“What would be?”
“Just going home without you,” she explained.
“Did something happening?”
“I mean, kinda? Not really. They just…” she hesitated. Did she really want to confess all of this to him? She knew it would only hurt him. "They think you’re a bad boyfriend.”
Jason just nodded slowly.
He should’ve seen this coming. Of course her family didn’t think he was good enough. How could they think anything different?
“I’m just…fucking frustrated,” Y/n groaned. “I knew what I was getting into when you told me about your other life and who you really were. I was willing to keep your secret and protect it. I just never thought about how hard it would be keeping it from my family.”
She shook her head. “They think you’re not committed or something. And that…that you’re probably cheating on me.”
The idea of him ever doing that her made Jason sick to his stomach.
“I’m sorry,” Jason mumbled.
“What?” Y/N gasped. “You haven’t done anything wrong.”
“But I have,” he argued. “I put you in this position.”
“No, I did. I did when I fell in love with you,” she clarified.
“But I don’t want you lying to the people you love.”
“I’m not telling you this because I’m mad at you or blame you, Jason. I’m trying to tell you why I’m frustrated.”
She rubbed her face. “I just want them to know what an amazing person you are...and how brave and selfless. How you take care of me and love me and…and protect me.” Her eyes began to water. “They’re never gonna know the real you…even when they do meet you. And I fucking hate it.”
“So what if you told them?” Jason offered.
Her eyes widened at that. “Jason…”
“I’m serious. What if you told them?”
She thought about it. But she already knew the answer.
“It wouldn’t do any good. If I told them, then they’d be worried about me. Worried that your other life was putting me in danger. Worried that I would get pulled into it.”
Jason knew she was right.
Her family probably preferred an absentee boyfriend over a vigilante.
“But I see how the shitty men that have joined my family are. And you’re nothing like them. You’re so much better. And they’ll never even know.”
“Come here,” Jason muttered before he pulled her to him.
He let her body sink into his as he held her.
“I’ll do anything you want,” he whispered as he rubbed her back. “I just want you to be happy.”
“I always wondered what it would be like to finally been in a relationship – to just have someone on my team no matter what. I went to all those family gatherings thinking I’d never have it. And once I did, once I found you…” Her thoughts died out. “I just never expected it to be this way.”
“Do you regret it?” Jason asked as he pulled away to look in her eyes.
Her brow furrowed. “Regret what?”
“Being with me. Falling in love with me.”
Her heart broke at the question. “Oh, Jason. Of course not. Never.”
“What if I stopped?” He asked.
“No. I would never ask that of you,” she quickly shot down.
“I’d do it for you,” he tried to argue.
“I know you would. But I’m not asking. Because I know what it would do to you. Every time you’d see something in the news, you’d hate yourself. Because you would convince yourself that you could’ve stopped it. And maybe you would be right.” She took in a deep breath. “Red Hood isn’t just something you do. He’s a part of you. And even though I worry about you constantly, I’m never gonna tell you to stop.”
Jason took his time in reading her face.
“OK?” She pushed.
He nodded.
Then he embraced her once again.
“I’m sorry you have to keep my secrets,” he breathed into her hair.
————————————
Y/N walked into Jason’s apartment.
It was a Friday night and they agreed to have her come to his place this weekend.
Jason was always weary of her coming to Gotham, preferring her to stay in the safety of Metropolis.
He knew they couldn’t do the distance forever, and eventually they’d move into together. But he wasn’t ready to leave Gotham yet. And he didn’t want Y/N to lowering herself to such a city.
“J!” Y/N called when she walked in.
He had given her keys to his apartment quite early in their relationship, and told her she was welcome at his place any time. However, he wasn’t a fan of her getting there after dark. Gotham was Gotham, and he didn’t like her wandering around the city by herself just in order to give him a surprise visit.
An envelope on Jason’s kitchen counter caught her attention.
She nosily looked at it and saw that they were plane tickets to her hometown with both of their names on each of them.
She heard Jason walk up behind her. “What’s this?”
“A surprise,” he shrugged.
“What do you mean?” She laughed.
“We’re gonna visit your family,” he explained casually. “I called your mom and sister to find a weekend that worked.”
Y/N was shocked to silence.
“I know I fucked up when I couldn’t go with you during the holidays. I know this isn’t gonna solve everything. But I figured…it’s start.” Before he could say more, Y/N threw her arms around him.
————
Jason Todd knew how to throw on the charm. And no matter how thick he laid it on, it always felt sincere.
Y/N smiled as she watched her boyfriend interacting with her family.
He knew so much about each of them already, that he knew exactly what to talk about with every one of them.
For their long-weekend visit, they had decided to stay with her sister.
Jason knew she would be the hardest to win over and was the most protective over Y/N. He made it his personal mission to befriend her and show her how much he loved her little sister.
Y/N never said so, but Jason knew how important it was to her that Kate approved of him.
However, Jason hadn’t been able to have a conversation alone with her all weekend.
Until their last morning there.
Y/N was still sleeping when Jason had made his way to the kitchen.
He figured he could make Kate and her husband breakfast after housing them for a long weekend. And he made sure to start a pot of coffee while he was at it.
Halfway through making his specialty waffles, Kate walked into the kitchen rubbing her eyes.
“Oh, hi,” she greeted, clearly surprised to find Jason cooking in her kitchen.
“Morning,” Jason greeted.
“This is a surprise,” she said as she looked around the kitchen.
“There’s coffee if you want some.”
“T-Thanks…” she managed to mutter. “Do you need some help?”
“Nope. I got it. You just relax.”
Kate seemed to be unsure of how to behave when she was alone with her little sister’s boyfriend, and eventually sat on the kitchen stool with her coffee.
“Do you cook a lot?” She finally broke the silence with her question.
“I enjoy it,” he answered with a shrug. “I figured it’s the least I can do for you guys putting us up.”
“That’s very sweet of you, Jason.”
He continued cooking.
Kate figured this was her opportunity to get to know Jason – and not just through Y/N’s eyes. So, she started asking him question after question, and he seemed happy to answer them. Kate was surprised to find out about Jason’s traumatic childhood, making him realize that Y/N must’ve only shared his relation to Bruce Wayne and nothing more about his life before becoming an adopted Wayne.
Jason wasn’t surprised Y/N kept that part of his life to herself. She was protective of him that way. She always felt like his past was his story to tell, not hers.
“I know missing the holidays didn’t leave the best impression,” Jason told her after they’d been talking for awhile.
“You really mean a lot to Y/N. And your opinion matters more to her than you might think,” he added as he crossed his arms.
Kate seemed a little taken aback by how unafraid he was of confrontation.
He seemed more mature for his age – maybe for hers, even.
“I know I’m not going to win any of you over from just a single trip,” Jason continued. “But I’m going to work my ass off to make sure I get there.”
Kate smiled at that.
“I love her,” he told her quietly, but with determination. “She’s…Well, she’s the best thing to ever happen to me.”
Then he smirked. “And I’m not dumb enough to do anything to fuck things up with her.”
He took in a shallow breath. “I just…I just needed you to know that.”
Kate’s heart swelled from hearing her little sister’s boyfriend confessing his love for Y/N.
“Thank you for telling me that,” she whispered, trying to stop herself from crying. “I worry about her. And I hate that she’s so far away sometimes. I miss her.”
“She misses you, too,” Jason assured her.
“Thank you for taking care of her. I’m suddenly realizing you’re the only reason she’s eating anything that’s not out of a takeout container.”
Jason laughed. “I plead the fifth.”
Before any more could be said, Y/N walked into the kitchen as if she was sleep walking.
“Well, look who it is…” Jason teased.
Y/N walked to him silently, clearly wanting cuddles.
Jason chuckled at her, but gave her what she wanted. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. He had kept the PDA at an absolute minimum while he had been around Y/N’s family. But he couldn’t help it when Y/N was her sleepy and adorable self.
“You sleep OK?” He tried to whisper to her.
But Kate still heard it and pretended to look down at her phone.
Y/N nodded into his neck, making him chuckle at her more.
This was new for Kate, seeing her sister being loved and loving someone. Her instinct was to say it made her uncomfortable. But it was just something she wasn’t used to.
Soon Kate’s husband woke up and they all ate breakfast together.
And a few hours later, Y/N and Jason were packed and their was a Lyft was waiting outside to take them to the airport.
Jason hugged Kate and her husband and thanked them for hosting them. Then he grabbed Y/N’s bags and gave her a moment alone with her sister as he took their stuff to the car.
“I think I owe the two of you an apology…” Kate told her little sister.
“You do?”
“I think I judged him a bit too much before really giving him a chance.”
Y/N winced, but nodded. “Yeah, you did, actually.”
“He really loves you.”
Y/N smiled. “He does.”
“I just want you to be happy, you know that right?”
“I know. But sometimes you think that what makes you happy is what would make me happy. Our lives are different. And we want different things. Just because my relationship looks different than yours doesn’t mean it’s worse in some way.”
Kate nodded sadly, knowing her sister was right. “I get that now.”
-----------
A/N: I was inspired to write this when I thought about how my own family would react to me having a boyfriend like Jason Todd: a man who was secretly a vigilante and had a past too hard for anyone to ever imagine. Hopefully, other people can relate to this and it wasn’t too personal. 😬
Let me know what you thought!!!

Echoes of Home: 15 - Steve ("menu")
Echoes of Home: FFXIV AU OC – WoLs on Earth
Mr Hartman came to us as we were starting cleaning. "Hey, I saw some extra money in the drop safe. That you?"
"Oh...yeah, we left the door unlocked one night and some folks came in. I hook my phone up to the sound system and play music while we're cleaning. They wanted to stay for the music and ordered coffee and stuff. Then more of them came in last night. I guess it's a thing? Hope that's okay."
"Coffee and…?"
"Soft drinks, juice, whatever we had access to."
"How'd they pay?"
"We told them it was cash only after hours. Since we can't use the register."
He nodded. "Okay, sure. So why are folks asking me about soft pretzels?"
"Uh, yeah, we've been trying out some recipes at the house. My wife loves baking. We started bringing them over. People seem to like the pretzels with coffee."
"Haven't seen any flour go missing."
"Right, we get our own stuff. It's not on the menu, so we made up a price to cover costs and gave you half. Since, it's...like...your diner."
He scowled at me for a minute. Tsu'na did her "looking small" thing. Finally he went into the storeroom and came out with a blackboard and chalk. "Here's your menu. We'll talk about the register later. What kinda music you playing?"
"Oh, you know, mix station stuff so far. '80s, 90s and today'? We might do some album cuts if people like it."
"None of that punk or gangster crap, you hear?"
"Not a problem."
He nodded, still studying me. Then he said, "Hazel says you can use the guest room. Nice work on the bushes."
I gave him a big smile. "Thanks!"
He headed off to the kitchen. Tsu'na came close and murmured, "I do not love baking, Husband."
"Had to tell him something. This makes room for any more experiments we try to sell."
"Was I a prop again?"
"No, my love, this is business. You were a partner."
She tried to not look pleased at that.
