Prismo’s resolve buckles as Finn makes his case. The tethering foundation of his physical self pushes and beckons- Jake's voice echoing in his mind to help, but he should at least put on a show of propriety, to his role and the rules.

“I’ll— I’ll make a footnote.”

Finn’s eyes narrow as he whispers “a footnote?” thinly.

“Your wish will use up one of his... you dudes were one, once. If he agrees I'll see what I can do about the wording on his end.” Prismo lifts a shoulder.

Finn's posture stiffens abruptly, realization setting in.

Prismo sighs, pained at the sight of who he’d grown into, a reflection of his own sorry state. “Listen, time isn’t kind. I know you know that. Don’t get caught up trying to move mountains,” he says, trying to tread carefully. "There's some things I just can't let you change."

“Right.” Finn pushes a hand through his hair, growing silent and thoughtful before steadily looking Prismo in the eye. “Thanks for being such a good friend to Jake. He thought the world of you.”

“Thanks... that— it means a lo—”

"You'd know that though, wouldn't you," Finn doesn't ask so much as he blithely, bitterly states. "Can he hear me when I talk to you?"

Oh. Prismo feels that now-familiar nudge to open this heavy can of dread, but he only supplies a timid "it's complicated."

"I'm sorry," Finn's face softens with regret. "I'm sorry. Ever since he passed I've wondered how much of him was left with you, if I'd ever see him again. You talk like him sometimes."

The shadow's fingers lift and settle back down nervously, itching toward the remote laying close to his hip. "Most of him is adventuring with you." He presses a button and the right side of Finn's face is lit up as a scene plays out of the two of them creeping through a crypt on the large monitor set into the Time Cube's wall. "He'll be adventuring with you forever, now."

A thin rasp leaves Finn, eyes stuttering over the image as he turns to look. The skin between his brows starts forming a deep chasm before he can catch himself and settle his mask back in place. "Thank you," Finn utters tightly, and when he looks back up Prismo sees the understanding beneath his expression. He knows. "It hurts," Finn gestures vaguely to his own face, "carrying it like this."

A warbled "yeah" leaves him on a cough and he blinks away, feeling too exposed. "I'll do what I can, but no promises. You know how he is."

"Yeah. He was uh— Fern's difficult." Finn chuffs and trembles with a dejected, silent laugh. “It’s been real, man,” he breathes out, eyes closing as relief floods his sagging shoulders. And then he vanishes, geometric beams of light shooting upwards and out of the cube. The last thing he consciously hears is Jake's echoing voice saying 'I love you, too, Finn' as his mind unravels.

Prismo looks to the ceiling, gaze soft and forlorn. “See you soon.”

"Just move forwards, Simon! Well, maybe I don't want to move forwards!"

Okay, so it’s pretty damn obvious that Simon’s whole rant here is not just about the physical act of moving forwards through the Time Room. Like, I don’t need to explain what ‘moving forwards’ means in this case, right? But… the thing I’ve been thinking of is that the metaphor here might actually extend more than just this one line.

Because, yeah, Simon does need to move forwards. Metaphorically because embracing change and accepting you can’t actually go back to some idealized past where things were Better is the only way he can actually be happier. And literally because there is an Angry Beetle Cop out to murder his head off for the crime of being chosen by God as a sapient hard-drive. 

But moving on is hard, and you know why?

Because it is hard to move forwards in this silly little mumu.  

And again, this is both metaphorical and literal. Simon is fully aware that he should move forwards with his life, but this robe is yet another painful reminder of the trauma he’s trying to move on from. Yet another example of people treating him like he’s Ice King. Yet another symbol that him being Simon again is seen as some sort of a mistake.

And also, it’s just obviously physically, literally uncomfortable for him to move in this thing.

Simon was forced into a fit designed for a Wizard who could Fly. He’s constantly lifting it up and being so careful about his steps as to not stumble on it, and also trying so hard to not flash his genitalia to God and God’s two OCs that he shoved in his brain. Not to mention he’s running around the Time Room barefoot. And, like, at least when Ice King wore this he still had underpants.

But the thing is.... like, okay, the thing about the Shorts Scene is that it is kinda unfair Fionna got her outfit upgraded into a more comfortable variant while Simon still has to wear the Trauma Robes. But the important thing to remember is that Fionna got those lovely shorts because she explicitly complained about the skirt.

You can say that Simon’s problems should’ve been Obvious and maybe that’s true… but it’s still notable that unlike Fionna, who immediately complained when she started to find her outfit kinda uncomfortable - Simon lets out one sarcastic grumble when he first gets the robe and then just keeps his mouth shut and quietly wallows in his misery until he reached his breaking point. 

That seems notable especially with what we see of Simon in “Simon Petrikov” and how hard it is for him to be honest with his loved ones about his problems. 

I’ve seen some people express some anger at the way Finn and Marceline acted towards Simon during that episode. Saying they didn’t care about Simon enough. But Simon was deliberately hiding his struggles from them - and especially from Marcy. You know, he opened up to Finn and Finn was honestly doing what he thought was best. The problem being that Finn is pretty-messed-up himself and not good at therapy.

And Simon decided the best solution was just to drop the whole thing and pretend that Finn’s adventure did help as a way to end that nightmare without directly confronting him about Actually Making Things Worse. As far as Finn is concerned, Simon was doing badly and is now doing well. And as far as Marcy is concerned Simon is doing just fine! And this situation is not likely to change unless Simon actually speaks up!

Of course, this is easier said than done. I mean, like I said, he was TRYING to open up to Finn and from his perspective, got punished for even trying out for help.

And with the mumu, the situation is a even more complicated. Yes, Simon didn’t speak up when he had the chance to say ‘hey, actually it’s also pretty hard to run around barefoot in a robe! I would like some Pants please!” But also… where Finn and Marceline have both expressed nothing but genuine concern for Simon and take his issues very seriously in their own way - Prismo, Fionna and Cake have all been kinda callous about Simon’s situation and his mental well-being so far. 

So maybe it wasn’t totally unreasonable for Simon to assume that any attempt to assert what would make it easier for him to actually move forwards will fail. Or at least would be far too emotionally grueling to actually be worth it. I'm not saying that's for-sure what would've happened. I mean those three aren't just jerks for the sake of being jerks - it's just that Prismo is kinda occupied with his own grief-induced-depression-spiral and Fionna and Cake don't really get Simon yet. And we're surely going to get to a point in this narrative where these two genuinely care about him too sooner or later. But I can see in that moment why he would think that.

And so he keeps wallowing in the misery and resentment as it gets increasingly harder and harder to keep going forwards. Until he breaks and decide that maybe, what he actually wants is to just stop.

- I know for sure they'll make Prismo snap at my boy Scarab cuz he's still grieving his crush's (Jake) death for angst sake lol

- Why I think the Lich will come back? Well, bro's inevitable, he's everywhere around multiple universes including my boy Sweet P who's STILL The Lich so ik he'll be there somewhat, somehow (maybe they'll give us another "good"/morally grey Lich like Sweet P? I hope so, that'll be real interesting)

- There's gonna be some new villain cuz AT specializes in them mfs, but idk what kinda villain it'd be cuz, again, no one can top Glob or The Lich

- Ofc my boy Finn will appear that's like not even a theory atp it's just futile but like, not TOO much cuz he's still fighting his demons alone

- I think they won't let us hanging about FarmWorld Finn and he'll just appear at some point again, what will they do with him? No idea

- They do silly media jokes all the time so count that in

- Gumlee 100% appearing obviously (praying for them to become Prince Gumball and Vampire King again...)

- Ofc Orbo's appearing 😒

- What's Adventure Time without wacky cosmic creatures

- Bet they'll give my babygirl Scarab some sad ass backstory, trust 🙏! (Maybe our wing theory could be canon who knows...)

- What's there in FionnaWorld left to explore even? ofc they're hoping universes again and I just hope they can organize that a little better cuz I don't want another Winter King incident to happen

- They'll at least show Simon once more on a session, living his best life, having a girlfriend/boyfriend (doubt it lol) but in general living a peaceful new live maybe even looking older!

- They're probs revisiting FarmWorld if they do so yeah

- My girl Minerva will appear for sure

- If they were hinting at 1000+ years in the future lore in S1, they will do it again in S2 I'm very confident in it

- Prismo was glitching at the end of S1 so I'm sure they'll give us some lore about that in S2

- I know that they will expand on Pupcorn lore by either giving kids to one of Jake's kids that don't have any yet, giving Gibbon or Brownyn kids or just having Beth explain her species lore (they show that Brownyn has a kid in a comic made by a concept artist, but I don't know how canon that is as for right now)

Okay so like, I've been thinking about an Adventure Time teacher AU and why does it work weirdly well???

Here's the current staff list

Finn: Gym coach who's currently also working as a math teacher due to a shortage of staff and the previous one (Billy maybe?) quitting. He's absolute shit at math but he's super excited about it all the time so the students love him anyway.

Jake: At first I was thinking gym coach too, but I feel like he'd be a great counselor honestly. He's constantly advising his brother and I think he'd work well

BMO: The computer teacher! Kinda obvious but yeah

Neptr: Robotics/engineering teacher. Due to the nature of their jobs, BMO and Neptr work pretty closely together. Neptr loves this, BMO not as much.

Princess Bubblegum: The science teacher who is kind of running the place at times, because the principal won't do anything so she's decided to do what she can to keep this place running smoothly.

Marceline: The band director. She is 100% playing pranks on her students all the time. Also whenever the band is practicing she is standing on her band tower with a little umbrella or something for sun protection.

LSP: Drama teacher. Kinda obvious, she's already directed a play in the show so she works well as a drama teacher.

Simon/Ice King: History teacher! I got the idea from my AP world history teacher whose classroom is packed full of artifacts and replicas from different cultures throughout the world. Figured it'd be fitting for Simon

Flame Princess: English teacher. My whole thought proccess was "freestyle rap. Creative. Poetry. English?" and I think it works well. Her dad was the previous English teacher who left to open a chipmunk sanctuary.

Lady Rainicorn: I was thinking either art or Korean, leaning more towards Korean simply because I have another idea for the art teacher.

Jermaine: Art teacher!

Lemongrab: Psychology. This man has such a weird brain that I think it'd be fun to have him teach this. I can imagine him writing office referrals that just say "UNACCEPTABLE" on them

Fern: The new math teacher who shows up halfway through the year and has to deal with all the students complaining about missing Mr. Mertens.

Betty: Another character who shows up sometime later during the year. She'll be our principal, taking over for the previous principal who quit mysteriously.

Prismo: Vice principal, kinda bad at it and doesn't know how he got the job

Scarab: an admin who was hoping for vice principal and was really pissed when Prismo got the job instead of him

Golb: The principal

The lich: Previous vice principal who was fired for unknown reasons. Fired at the same time Billy quit.

Peppermint butler: I can't decide whether I want him as a student or as a secretary or just as someone who works in the office

I think I'll have all the candy citizens as students, as well as probably some minor characters who get a few appearances or only one episode.

This is partially why I originally wanted PB as the principal, but I found it funnier to have her as the teacher who is going insane because Golb will not do shit for the school.

I'm considering turning this whole thing into a fic, possibly focusing on PB? Possibly a bubbline fic? Not sure quite yet, this AU is still very much in development

🪲 It was years ago that you laid that file labeled 'Divorce Papers' in front of Scarab. And ever since then, you had happily grown to be a different person. You were able to do so many different things that you were never able to do when married

🪲 You had begun to make friends with many universe members, including that of Prismo, whom you adored. The two of you would speak anytime you could, and he was the anchor keeping you from snapping your ex's neck

🪲 Speaking of your ex; Scarab may have acted like it at first, but he did not want to divorce you. He loved you so much, and he still did. Not that you couldn't realize his constant attempts to get you back

🪲 You groaned as you heard another ring come from your cell. Prismo cocked an eyebrow and asked what was happening. You just looked at the flower that had a glowing-ball floating above and said a single name;

"Scarab."

"He's still not leaving you alone?"

"Ha. At this point, I'm pretty sure his stubbornness if the only thing left in his mind."

"Wow. Shows just how obsessive he is, yeah?"

"Yep." You replied.

🪲 Before you knew it, you put the call to messages. And after only a few seconds, he called again. Prismo shrugged and went over to speak to Simon, who was curled in a ball, looking at the yellow wall blankly

🪲 You pressed the answer button and there, facing you through the magical ball, was your ex-husband. He sighed dramatically and began to ramble about how much he missed you and wanted you to come back to him

"Look, I'm sorry that I got angry all the time! But, I can change! I swear on it."

"Do you know how many times I've heard that line from you? To damn many. Scarab, I'm going to tell you this one final time. If you try calling me or contacting me in any way; delivery, letters, call, in-person, I will not hesitate to bring a certain someone in." You warned, voice getting deeper as you threatened him.

🪲 Scarab's eyes widened as he trembled in anger. It was easy to tell that he was holding himself back from yelling at you. You just rolled your eyes as he kept it up, trying to woo you back to marrying him and being together like the 'old times'

"Actually, you know what, Scarab?"

"What?"

"You can go burn in hell, asshole."

"W-WHY YOU!-"

🪲 The call ended, by you pressing a button, a smirk evident on your face as Simon and Prismo chuckled from behind

"Let's go, Y/N!" Simon cheered.

"Amen!" Prismo added.

🪲 You smiled at the two of them and went to sit beside them. You knew your life beside Scarab was long over, but your life with the two people you viewed as family was just beginning

It's actually the reverse! Prismo makes the designs & Scarab writes, due to the nature of the story it's very VERY dark it cannot be written by anyone except Scarab I'd say the AU both exists in fiction and in their reality too, despite it being an fictional works, the characters themselves are the only ones that was once fictional. they didn't know it would make it into reality as Iey is an already existing world within the universe mostly because of its canon event of the mushroom war and simon wishing instead to make world peace instead of protecting only the few people he loves Also its geographically different but yeah

the way i see it their (og prismo and his variants) appearances is mostly a subcouncious thing, in prismo's depressive funk he uncounsciously manifested eyebags and a stubble, tho they only have some level of control over their appearances, its usually emotion based, like, prismo is a chill and simple guy so he's a sillhoute wo even clothes but prism is more professional so he dresses like it

prism is a really closed off guy so he doesnt like people knowing what he feels and the mouth is a really expressive part of the body so he usually hid it, eventually hiding his mouth became natural since most of the time he has a resting bitch face and isnt using it much, he has to either make a councious effort to manifest it (to eat) or when his emotions are really strong (like snarling or smilling), when its the latter it happens naturally and he doesnt even notices it at the time

Ok so basically, usually Scarab Beetles lay eggs in dung balls then roll them over long distances.

Also fun fact, Scarabs aren’t just dung beetles. There are a ton of different types. And so now I will spend a few minutes finding Scarab’s exact beetle species.

Ok I have found it. And guess fucking what. He is trans. So the beetle that I found that matched Scarab the most is a female Strategus aloeus or Ox Beetle. The male ones usually are darker and have black heads. And they also have spiked faces.

And notice, that even when attempting to intimidate, Scarab doesn’t have horned faceplates

And guess fucking WHAT. Even though Ox Beetles have working wings, they don’t fly. Just like our boy.

Ox Beetles also feed on flowers and fruit. Hence why he might have been offended when offered a dung ball.

What was I talking about? Oh right. Jake the third.

So you see, Ox Beetle females lay eggs (usually in wood or undergrowth) and then they hatch from there.

I have no idea how Jake the third would have been born, apart from Prismo doing some wishmaster shit and just making him appear. But now I know what the real life Jake the Third looks like

You. You are an intern for the not-so-magical wishmaster, Prismo. You had been an intern for about... 50 years now actually! You wouldn't say you were extremely thrilled with being his intern, but hey; At least you weren't floating in the middle of the universe, slowly disintegrating.

You could go on and on about all the things that made you upset about him. His stubble, his messiness, his handsome face-

ANYWAYS! Ever since you got the job as "wishmaker intern", you've had the weird power to become 2D. Not the most favorable thing in the world but it made your job a little easier when it came to working with Prismo.

You were sitting in the time room politely while Prismo clicks through all the channels like he always does. "When will I ever get to use the remote?" You ask, crossing your arms.

"Maybe in a couple hundred years." Prismo says, a smug look on his face. You roll your eyes and scoot closer to him to see what he's doing. "You know... You're kind of a prick." You say, looking away from him.

He scoffs. "You could be floating around space right now, you know that, right?"

"Yeah yeah..." You say, glancing down at his thumbs as they flip through the channels. "Do you always have to be... I dunno... 2D?"

"What?" Prismo responds, slightly glancing in your direction,

"Can you be like... 3D?" You respond, feeling the tension growing in the air.

"Yeah but I don't like it..."

"Oh..."

You two sit in uncomfortable silence.

"Do you.. like me? Like... A coworker." He blurts, breaking the silence and putting the remote down.

"Wha- I mean, I guess." You say, looking over at Prismo.

He makes eye contact with you, making you tense up a bit.

"Then why do you always have an attitude?" He said, furrowing his eyebrows. You are silent.

"Exactly."

You didn't know why you were always so rude to him. Maybe it is a defense to your underlying feelings. You shiver at the thought of these feelings and it almost makes you feel sick.

"I can see right through you..." He says gently, his eyes piercing through you.

"Wha-"

He chuckles as if he isn't feeling anything. "You want to hate me, but you can't." He says.

What do you say to that? It's true. You feel cornered.

"Prismo.." You shutter out. He just... Laughs.

"You like like me!" He says, still laughing.

"Prismo stop- This is mean." You say, a blush spreading across your face.

"When did I say i didn't like you too?"

The words falling out of his mouth making you feel stunned. Is it a trick? A joke? You couldn't tell. Your heart felt naked and exposed with all of this emotion. You want to cry but, you wouldn't. At least, you wouldn't let him see you do so.

"I like you." Prismo says. He isn't joking. He isn't joking or tricking you. It is pure emotion.

There is a gentle silence.

"I like you too... I think i'd always like you... No matter the universe. I'd like you in all your forms." You say, feeling all the emotion that has been pent up within your heart release. Tears roll down your face but, you quickly try to wipe them up.

He smiles and helps wipe your tears. Being 2D made things easier, that's for sure.

"50 years..." He says, giggling.

You giggle with him, holding your hands together.

With him, time is forever. Time is now. There is no expectation other than one; that he will be there forever. A crush so childlike. So pure and undiluted. Just liking each other. Liking the presence of another.

"So... What now?" You say.

One of the Adventure Time arcs that goes hardest imo is the Finn-Fern arc.

Idk just… everything was against any good coming out of their interactions. Everything was lending itself toward building Fern’s envy. Finn had enough on his plate with his own identity crises to realise what referring to a similar but fundamentally different person as “Other me”(essentially) was doing.

And the kicker? The last two scenes of Three Buckets—Finn laying there as Fern’s body scattered into blades of grass, and Finn getting home with the third bucket and burying his face in his hands—so so so much going on there. Loved it.

And the fact that it took Fern dying a second time for them to finally see each other. “I don’t feel so good.” Good grief.

Other small things, like the fact that they were both genuinely doing their best with what they had going on, for the most part. The fact that it feels a bit tricky to pin the Grass Sword Demon as all malice, despite the fact that it had pretty selfish goals of its own (presumably getting a like… corporeal body).

The fact that it wasn’t just the big stuff that was getting to Fern—it was the small stuff too. Like having all these memories of liking certain foods but being unable to eat because of a lack of a digestive tract. Or having all these memories of people and essentially knowing them personally but having all of them, even passing acquaintances, treat you as someone entirely new.

Also the fact that essentially, Finn has watched this other Finn (the one from Prismo’s failsafe plot) die multiple times at his own hands: when he spooked him; when Bandit Princess stole him and Finn stabbed him; when the metal arm Weed-Whacked him, which leads to another thing—the person Fern held all this envy for was like,,, the only person who genuinely believed Fern was genuinely Finn?

And the best part? Imo, it would be very hard to change that arc in isolation. Quite a few small and not-so-small things would have to go different in prior arcs for this arc to go any different.

But yeah that’s enough, any longer and I’ll continue typing which… no. Idk, every rewatch of the show, that arc in particular brings me to tears.
