THE NINETEENTH LUNAR MANSION: THE ROOT CAUSE
Ketu, the South Node of the Moon, rules Mula, the root of relative existence. Its deity is Nirriti, the demon. An elephant's goad or prod, or a lion's tail, are its chief symbols. Another symbol is a tied bunch of roots. Some of Mula's major significations are:
The root, foundation, cause, source, or origin.
Original, peculiar, different, changing, unprecedented.
Temporary ownership or rulership.
To get to the bottom of something.
The chief or principal place.
*
As an individual engages in the process of knowing, he eventually comes to the core of life and manifest existence: change and relativity.
*
Change must somehow exist along with non-change. Otherwise, how could we recognize change? This paradox becomes livelier as we continue the search for the Real, the permanent, and the non-changing.
*
If all standpoints are relative, then why pursue some form of ultimate truth? Because, although it sounds paradoxical to say so: Ultimate reality does exist, and humans can experience this Reality.
*
If the Absolute phase of existence is emphasized at the expense of the relative phase, the temptation of Lucifer arises-the temptation to leave this ephemeral and illusory world forever, abandoning those ignorant souls who still cling to it. This temptation of Lucifer arises out of an imbalance in how we view the sattwic principle in relation to the other two.
An overemphasis on the unity and oneness of existence can result in passivity and asceticism, as seen in the Indian culture. Only a reappraisal of the value of the rajasic force-in relation to the sattwic force-can stem this tide of unhealthy other-worldliness.
*
Buddha emphasized the significations of this asterism, although he also transcended them.
*
What lies at the root of relative existence? Space, time, and causality. Until we wrestle with these necessary prerequisites to knowledge, we are playing around on the surface of life.
*
Space, time, and causality are like three roots tied together in a bunch. They can't really be separated.
*
Space, time, and causality are all relative. Science has proven this metaphysical assertion.
*
The ultimate root of existence is the Void; however, we tend to avoid facing this reality; it terrifies us.
*
J.R. Krishnamurti said that people are afraid to strip away all their possessions and face what they truly are emptiness.
*
The emptiness is actually fullness.
*
Osho: One sage will speak of the ultimate as full, the next as empty. The first is a more feminine approach, the second a more masculine one.
*
Space, time, and causality are different in different states of consciousness - sleep state, dream state, and waking state. Only in the fourth, transcendental state do we experience an infinite, eternal, causeless Reality.
*
Mula describes the originality, uniqueness, and peculiarity of the Tantric practitioner.
*
The Tantric is the living spiritual expression of the principle of relativity. His experimental spiritual practice is uniquely his own.
*
Anything we think we possess is only temporary, including our personality.
