I refuse to start a new project while still in the trenches with my current WIP, but I am overtaken, plagued, attacked by thoughts of an AU where N/Bobby are in a toxic relationship that makes them both worse, eventually turning them into a Big Bad duo the detective and Unit Bravo has to deal with.

Before the Dawn: Chapter III // Logan Howlett
Logan Howlett x f!mutant!reader Chapter 3/4 Read Chapter 2 here Word Count: 1369
Background: You are a mutant with hydrokinetic abilities (think Percy Jackson meets the mermaids from H2O), and arrived at the X-Mansion 4 months before Logan. You started dating Logan after the events of X-Men but before he left for Alkali Lake. You are both in love with each other but have yet to confess it. Takes place within the events of X2, Canon violence, pre-established relationship
With adrenaline pumping through your veins, you and Logan sprinted through the collapsing base. The roar of the dam’s crumbling structure echoed through the metal corridors, water already starting to flood certain sections. But that wasn’t your focus. Right now, you had to find Stryker and stop him—once and for all.
As you stepped outside, you spotted Stryker near a helicopter, preparing for takeoff. Logan moved fast, grabbing Stryker by the throat and slamming him against the helicopter, driving his claws into his sides.
Stryker screamed in agony.
"How does it feel, bub?" Logan growled.
Stryker gasped, "Why did you come back?"
"You cut me open. Took my life. You tried to take Y/N's too," Logan snarled.
Stryker managed a twisted smile. "You make it sound like I stole something. You volunteered for the procedure. As for Y/N... I wasn’t going to pass up that opportunity."
Logan's claws dug in deeper, and Stryker winced.
"Who am I?" Logan demanded.
Stryker smirked. "You're a failed experiment. If you knew your past—the kind of person you were, the work we did—you’d know people don’t change. You were an animal then, Wolverine. You still are."
Stryker glanced at you with a cold grin. "He’s still an animal now."
He turned back to Logan. "I just gave you claws."
Suddenly, an alarm blared from the distance. The ground trembled as the sound of metal screeching and concrete cracking filled the air.
"What the hell is that?" you asked, alarmed.
Logan pressed his claws deeper into Stryker, demanding, "What is it?!"
"The dam’s ruptured," Stryker said through clenched teeth. "It’s going to flood the spillway. It’s too late. In a few minutes, we’ll all be underwater."
You and Logan exchanged a tense look. Stryker glanced between you both, sneering. "You can’t save your friends. They’re as good as dead."
He turned back to Logan. "You’re a survivor. Always have been."
Logan’s face hardened. "I thought I was just an animal—with claws. If we die, you die."
Without hesitation, Logan ripped his claws out of Stryker and shoved him against the helicopter’s wheel, securing him with a chain. You stepped forward, melting the snow beneath him and freezing it again, pinning him to the ground.
"We have to find the others," you said urgently, pulling Logan’s attention back to the base. The rumble of the dam breaking grew louder.
As you started to walk away, Stryker shouted after you both. "There are no answers that way!"
Ignoring him, the two of you raced back toward the base. Jean, Scott, Storm, the students—they all needed to get out before the dam collapsed completely.
The base was shaking violently by the time you reached the others. They were about to head down a pathway that would’ve led them to certain death. Logan thrust his claws into a control panel, slamming a door shut.
"You don’t want to go that way," you called out. "Follow us!"
You helped guide the group back outside, everyone moving as quickly as they could through the snow. But when you reached the spot where the helicopter had been, it was gone.
"Damn it," Logan muttered, scanning the horizon. Panic started to creep in, but then, through the clouds, you saw it—the jet. Rogue was at the controls, with Bobby helping her.
The jet descended, wobbling dangerously as Rogue struggled to keep it steady.
"She’s not going to make it," you said, fear creeping into your voice.
Rogue managed to land the jet roughly onto the ground.
"Go help them onto the jet!" Logan ordered, his tone sharp but firm. "I’ll catch up."
"What about you? What are you—"
"I need to take care of something," he interrupted. "Go."
Reluctantly, you nodded and ran toward the others, helping them board the unstable jet. Despite the chaos, you kept it together, focused on getting everyone to safety.
Once everyone was aboard, you glanced back and saw Logan confronting Stryker again. Stryker was chained up, thanks to Magneto, and Logan stood below him.
"Who has the answers, Wolverine?" Stryker taunted. "Those people? That creature you’re with?"
Logan didn’t reply. He glared up at the man who had ruined his life, the man who had turned the woman he loved into his own weapon. “I’ll take my chances,” Logan spat, tearing off his dog tags and dropping them at Stryker’s feet before turning his back on him.
As Logan walked away, Stryker shouted after him. "One day, someone will finish what I started, Wolverine! One day!"
Logan jogged back to the jet, leaping inside just as the ground shook violently beneath you. The dam was about to burst.
"Are you okay?" you asked as he rejoined you, your hand brushing down his arm in comfort.
Logan gave a small nod. "I am now."
He planted a firm kiss on your forehead.
"Come on, get us out of here!" he called, strapping himself in.
Storm and Scott scrambled to start the jet, but the engines sputtered and failed. The cabin filled with tension as everyone realized that the water was coming fast.
“Why isn’t it working?” you yelled, fear rising in your throat as the water rushed toward the jet.
And then, in the chaos, Charles’ voice softly called out. “Jean?”
You looked around, suddenly realizing Jean was missing. Panic gripped you, and you shot a glance toward Scott, who was frantically looking around as well.
“She’s gone,” Scott muttered, his voice strained. “Jean… where is she?”
You bolted to the back of the jet, searching for any sign of her. Your heart pounded in your chest as you screamed, “Jean! No! You can’t do this!”
But as you reached the door, it slid shut in your face. Through the window, you saw her standing outside, her eyes glowing with power, her face set in grim determination.
“No!” Scott yelled, banging his fists against the glass. “Jean! Don’t do this!”
You felt a pang of guilt slice through your chest. You could’ve helped. You could’ve used your powers to manipulate the water, to do something. But your leg was still weak from the earlier fight, and you weren’t strong enough to control the water currents. You hadn’t been at the school long enough to master your abilities. I could’ve helped her…
Outside, Jean’s powers surged, and she lifted the jet with her telekinesis, guiding it into the air. The water from the dam swirled around her, bending to her will. She was holding back an entire flood.
You pressed your hands against the glass, tears streaming down your face as you tried to reach out with your powers. “Jean!” you called, but your voice was lost in the roar of the flood.
Scott’s voice broke, trembling with anguish. “Jean… please.”
But it was too late. With a final, heartbreaking glance at Scott, Jean guided the water around the jet, holding it at bay just long enough to save you all. The jet soared into the air, leaving Jean behind.
You searched desperately for her in the water, your hydrokinesis pushing you to the limit. But with the blood loss from your leg and the overwhelming force of the current, you couldn’t sense her. You weren’t strong enough.
As the jet ascended higher, the reality of what had just happened sank in. Jean was gone. And it was your fault. You should’ve been able to do something. You could’ve saved her.
The silence in the jet was deafening. Scott collapsed into his seat, his face pale and stricken with grief. You sat down, staring blankly at the floor, guilt clawing at your insides.
“I could’ve helped her,” you whispered, more to yourself than anyone else. Tears streamed down your face, and the weight of Jean’s sacrifice pressed heavily on your chest.
Logan placed a hand on your shoulder, his voice low. “It wasn’t your fault.”
But you couldn’t shake the feeling that it was. You’d failed her. You’d failed Logan. And now Jean was gone because of it.
The jet flew through the sky, but the atmosphere inside was heavy with grief and guilt. The battle wasn’t over, but as you sat there, surrounded by your team, you couldn’t help but feel that you’d already lost.

I knew I had to come up with something soon before my dad lost his shit. It was only a matter of time before he started demanding answers about my progress with Dean and Winchester industries.
During our last phone call, I had explained how unstable Dean's life was with Jo—how their fights seemed to escalate and how much tension hung over him whenever she was around. I also casually mentioned how Dean had taken me to dinner with the investors and Chuck seemed pleased with the arrangement.
“Good work on that,” my dad had said, his voice cold and calculating. “Get more into Dean’s life. Manipulate him. Let him fall in love with you.”
“Yeah, right, like that’s something I’m capable of,” I shot back, rolling my eyes even though he couldn’t see me. “I have a master’s degree; I’m not Cupid.”
“Doesn’t matter. Figure it out, break it down from the inside ” he insisted, his tone leaving no room for argument.
I sighed, feeling the weight of his expectations pressing down on me. But deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had to agree, if only to keep the peace. So I decided to focus on my work like I used to, putting my energy into my job rather than dwelling on the complexities of my feelings for Dean.
Weeks passed, and it became painfully clear that Dean was intentionally putting distance between us. Whenever Jo was around, he acted as if I were air, completely ignoring me while plastering on a smile for her.
I tried to joke or get his attention, hoping to draw out the true Dean I had come to know, but nothing worked. It was like I was shouting into a void, and the more he shut me out, the more frustrated I became.
At work, I kept my head down, throwing myself into projects and trying to prove my worth to Bobby and the rest of the team. I hoped that maybe, just maybe, if I became indispensable enough, Dean would realize he needed me in his life—not just for work, but for something more personal.
But as the days turned into weeks, my attempts felt futile. Whenever Dean and Jo entered the office together, the atmosphere shifted. Jo had a way of commanding attention, her loud laughter and brash comments cutting through the air like a knife. Dean would respond to her every whim, and I was left on the sidelines, watching as the connection I thought we had faded into nothing.
One afternoon, I found myself alone in the break room, pouring a cup of coffee, when Sam walked in. He looked at me with concern, and I knew he could sense the tension in the air.
“Hey, Y/N, everything okay?” he asked, leaning against the counter. “Yeah, just peachy,” I replied, forcing a smile. Sam raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. “You sure? You’ve been quieter than usual. Is it about Dean?”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “It’s never mind." Sam frowned, looking thoughtful. “You know, Dean has a lot going on with Jo. He’s dealing with... his own issues. Sometimes he just needs space.”
Space? I thought, the frustration bubbling over. What kind of space? I’m not trying to invade his life; I just want to be friendly. But it feels like I’m competing with her every single day.
But all I said was "sure".
Sam his voice calm. “He’ll come around when he’s ready. He's a good boss, but his personal life just mingles with work I guess.” I nodded, appreciating his advice but still feeling the sting of rejection. “Thanks, Sam."
As I stood there, staring into my coffee cup, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my situation was only going to get messier. I had a job to do, but my heart was tangled in a web of emotions that seemed impossible to untangle.
That evening, as I sat at my desk, I noticed Jo laughing in the hallway. It was a familiar scene, but tonight it hit harder. I clenched my jaw, feeling a mix of anger and sadness. I didn’t want to be this pawn in my father’s game, nor did I want to be the other woman, vying for Dean’s attention while Jo played the part of the doting girlfriend.
With a deep breath, I decided to focus on my work and push the feelings aside. I had to remind myself that I was capable, that I was more than just a pawn in someone else’s game. But as I glanced at Dean, I couldn’t help but wonder how long I could keep this up without losing myself in the process.
--
Another dinner at Bobby's made it painfully clear why Dean had changed.
Jo announced to everyone, with a beaming smile, that she was pregnant. I almost choked on my food, a mix of shock and disbelief flooding through me. I forced a congratulatory smile, clapping along with everyone else, but my heart sank.
Dean, on the other hand, seemed anything but pleased. He sat quietly, his expression unreadable, and I could feel the tension radiating off him like heat waves.
--
The next night, I found myself working late. I had thrown myself into my projects, trying to escape the reality of Dean’s new situation, but my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts.
Bobby asked Sam the come back but part time, he wanted me by his side. To share the same title. Sam thought it was a great idea, this way Bobby could train me until his retirement and I would get promoted earlier.
When I decided to leave my office, I noticed a light still on in Dean's office.
I hesitated for a moment before knocking softly on the door. “Hi,” I said, stepping inside. Dean looked up from his paperwork, his brows furrowing as he saw me.
“Hey,” he replied, his voice lacking its usual warmth. He looked downcast, his tie a little lose, his hair messy. I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was spiraling. “What are you still doing here?” he asked.
“I could ask you the same thing. Did you have dinner yet?” I inquired, trying to keep my tone light. He sighed deeply, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “No, I tried to work through it, but I can’t seem to focus.”
“Is it Jo?” I ventured, surprised by my own boldness. Dean looked at me, surprise flickering across his face. “You noticed, huh?” I nodded slowly. “It’s just... I’ve seen... You don’t seem really thrilled about everything.”
He leaned back in his chair, the weight of his thoughts evident. “Just between you and me?” he asked, lowering his voice as if the walls themselves could hear.
“Of course,” I replied, stepping closer and closing the door behind me for privacy, even though we were probably the only two people in the building at this hour.
Dean took a moment, gathering his thoughts. “I don’t think I’m ready for kids,” he finally admitted, his voice strained. “I never pictured myself being a father, start a family, let alone with Jo. I just... I feel trapped.”
My heart ached at his words. I wanted to reach out and comfort him, to let him know he wasn’t alone in this turmoil. “Does she know?” I asked softly, afraid of his answer but needing to know.
He shook his head, frustration mingling with confusion. “No. I mean, how could I tell her? She’s so excited about it. I can’t just crush her like that.”
I took a deep breath, choosing my words carefully. “Dean, it’s not just about her. You have to think about what you want too. This is your life, and it’s a huge decision.”
He nodded, running a hand through his hair. “I know, I just… I don’t want to let anyone down."
I could see the conflict etched on his face, the struggle between duty and desire. I stepped closer to him, my heart pounding.
He locked eyes with me, and for a brief moment, it felt like we were the only two people in the world.
I felt a surge of hope as his gaze softened. “Still maybe you need to talk to Jo. She deserves to know how you feel, and you deserve to be honest with yourself.”
Dean sighed, his shoulders slumping. “You’re right. I just don’t know how to start that conversation. It’s going to break her heart.”
“I know it’s tough,” I said, my voice steady. He nodded slowly, the weight of my words settling over him. “Thanks, Y/N. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
I felt a warmth spread through me at his words, but I pushed it aside, reminding myself of the boundaries I needed to maintain. “You can always talk to me. I’m here for you,” I assured him.
We stood in silence for a moment, the air thick with unspoken words. I could feel the tension between us, a mix of comfort and longing, but I knew this wasn’t the right time to explore those feelings.
“How about I order some pizza, and I’ll help you with this?” I suggested, hoping to lighten the mood. Dean’s face brightened, and he nodded gratefully.
“Yeah, that would be great,” he said, pulling out his phone. I quickly ordered a couple of pizzas and settled back into the rhythm of work.
We tackled spreadsheets, analyzed figures, and brainstormed ideas for the upcoming projects. The hours flew by, and soon enough, we were both feeling the effects of long hours and stress.
After we wrapped up, I leaned back in the seat in the corner of his office, taking a deep breath to unwind. I kicked off my shoes, letting my bare feet rest on the table in front of me. Dean looked over with an amused smirk as he walked back with two glasses of bourbon in hand.
“Nice footrest you’ve got there,” he teased, handing me a glass. “Try to wear heels all damn day, you'd do the same,” I replied, laughing softly.
Dean took a seat on the table in front of me, his posture relaxed as he placed my feet gently on his lap. "You know, you don't need to wear heels in this company, right?"
Just as I wanted to answer he started to massage them, his fingers digging into the arches of my feet. Ah soft "hm" left my lips. “Is this okay?” he asked, looking up at me with an expression that was both playful and sincere.
“It’s more than okay,” I replied whispering, feeling the tension melt away with each movement of his hands. “I might need to keep you around for personal massage therapy session.”
He chuckled, clearly enjoying the moment. “I charge by the hour,” he quipped, and we both laughed, the sound filling the otherwise quiet office.
The atmosphere felt easy and cozy, and for a moment, the weight of the world seemed to lift. But just as we settled into our little bubble, the door swung open, and Bobby walked in.
“Am I interrupting something?” he asked, raising an eyebrow at the sight of Dean and me in such an intimate position.
“No, not at all!” I exclaimed, pulling my feet back into a more appropriate position.
Bobby chuckled, shaking his head. “Well, I hope I’m not stepping on any toes here. I’ve got the latest numbers on the project you two were working on.”
Dean straightened up and regaining his composure. “We were just wrapping things up, anyway. What do you have for us?”
Bobby pulled out a folder and laid it on the table, glancing between us with a knowing smile. “Just wanted to make sure you two had everything you needed before the meeting next week. I’ll leave you to it.”
I couldn’t help but feel a mix of warmth and embarrassment. Dean had dropped the playful facade, returning to his professional demeanor, but I could still sense the underlying tension from earlier.
“Thanks for that,” Dean said to me, leaning back against the table, his expression softening. “I really needed it. You know, you’re pretty amazing at keeping my head straight.”
I smiled, feeling a blush creep onto my cheeks. “Just doing what I can. Besides, you’d do the same for me, right?”
He nodded, a hint of seriousness creeping back into his eyes. “Yeah, I would.”
The air was charged with an unspoken understanding. I knew we were both still navigating our complicated feelings, but in this moment, sitting together in the glow of the office light with the smell of pizza in the air, it felt like we were on the verge of something new.

I have but a humble request, and that is mister Bob, anyway you’ll give him 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 (yuckosworld)
@yuckosworld ALWAYS. Prepare to gush. Also, gonna go ahead and tag @bobgasm in this for reasons.
You heard the sound of your apartment door open with a small thud followed by muffled laughter. Furrowing your brow, you wandered through the hall and into the living room.
"Bobby?" you call hesitantly. Another thud.
"We're in here, y/n!" Mickey calls. You hurried to the entry way, finding Mickey supporting your boyfriend with Bob's arm thrown over his shoulder so that he didn't fall onto the floor. You rushed over to them, taking Bob's other arm over your own shoulder, and helping guide him into the living room. You and Mickey managed to set him on the couch where his head flopped back, a grin plastered on his face. You turned your attention to Mickey, hands on your hips.
"What happened?" You demanded. Mickey let out a sigh and rubbed a hand over his face.
"Someone accidentally mixed the alcoholic beer with the non-alcoholic stuff. We didn't notice until, well," he trailed off, gesturing to your boyfriend who you now realized was absolutely plastered. You had insisted he go out with the guys that night for some much needed "guy time."
"Accidentally?" you questioned Mickey with a purse of your lips. Mickey shrugged with another defeated sigh.
"Sorry y/n," he said, giving you a sympathetic look. "I brought him home as soon as we realized what happened."
"It's not your fault, Mickey," you sighed. You began waving him towards the door. "You go on home. I've got him."
"You sure?" Mickey asked uncertainly, but you nodded, offering him a small smile.
"Yeah, I'm sure," you murmured, looking at your boyfriend who was already staring at you with wonder in his eyes. Mickey said his goodbyes and you heard the latch of the door as he closed it behind himself.
"Oh, Bobby," you cooed, reaching down to run a hand through his soft hair.
"Hi Bugaboo," he slurred, grinning. He reached out his arms towards you, and you complied, straddling him when he pulled you down.
"Missed you s'much," he said as he leaned his forehead against yours.
You hummed as his arms wrapped around you and started stroking the small of your back where your low cut tank top had ridden up. "You weren't even gone that long, baby."
"Was still t'long," he muttered, burying his face into your chest. He nuzzled deeper and you heard him say something into your skin.
"What was that, Bobby?"
"I said," he started, looking up at you from his current position, "that you're always s'soft."
You chuckled, stroking his cheek. "That's very sweet of you, baby."
He nuzzled back into you, letting out a yawn. "S'true."
"C'mon, love," you whispered down into his ear, sending a shiver up his spine. "Let's go to bed, yeah?"
Bob's head shot up from your chest, a wide, mischievous grin slowly spreading across his face. "Yeah?"
You let out another chuckle, shaking your head. "to sleep, baby boy."
Bob pouted, deepening it when you moved to stand up. When you reached out your hand to him, he grabbed it gently and allowed you to pull him up.
"Fine," he huffed, leaning down to bury his face into your neck. He pressed light kisses up from the base and onto your face. He continued to press light kisses all over your face until you were a giggling mess in the middle of the living room. Bob pulled back with another pout when you pushed at his chest lightly.
"Bed, mister," you smiled sweetly up at him. He let out another huff of breath, but then seemed to perk up when he thought of something.
"We can cuddle in bed?" he asked you excitedly, earning another soft giggle from you.
"Of course, Bobby."
Bob practically stumbled his way to your shared bedroom, insisting he was fine to walk on his own and far too excited to hold you in his arms. He'd feel it in the morning, but you'd let him enjoy it now.

ONE YEAR LATER
Dean and Y/N carried various potluck side dishes into the backyard, placing them on the long wooden table Dean had made in his spare time to accommodate his growing family.
John and Bobby were manning the grill, and Sam was playing with Miracle, the big goofball dog Dean had rescued from a burning building where his owners had sadly perished.
Jody and Mary sat at the table in the sunshine with Jess across from them, sheltering under the parasol with baby Matthew.
When the little boy saw Y/N, he gave her a big toothy smile. He wasn’t even a year old yet and had the same Winchester charm his father, uncle and grandfather had. Y/N couldn’t refuse the grabby hands and little mewls demanding she takes him from his mother’s arms and into hers.
“Hey, buddy!” Y/N smiled as she lifted Matthew and placed him on her hip. Every day his baby babbles sounded more like actual words. Although she wasn’t as versed in Matthew’s baby language as his parents were, she listened to him intently and responded whenever there was a break in his storytelling.
Today’s gathering was a double celebration. Bobby was retiring as Fire Chief at Lawrence F.D. Dean had accepted the promotion into his role and would start as the new Chief at Firehouse 3 the following week. Y/N couldn’t be prouder of her boyfriend and wouldn’t deny that him not running head-first into fires ninety percent of the time would make her life much less stressful.
“He always settles so easily with you,” Jess smiled, and Y/N glanced down to see Matthew had fallen asleep on her shoulder.
“What can I say? Kids love me,” Y/N said, giggling as Dean bent to kiss her forehead, a soft smile curving his lips upwards. The look of utter adoration that shone in his green eyes was overwhelming, and she felt her breath catch in her throat.
“Alright,” John called from the other side of the yard. “First batch of food is ready!”
“Here, let me take him so you can get something to eat. You must be starving after coming off a night shift and barely sleeping before entertaining all of us,” Jess said as she reached to take the sleeping baby from Y/N’s arms.
“It’s fine, Jess. I can survive another twenty minutes. Go, eat something hot for a change without burning your mouth!” Y/N grinned as Jess gave her a grateful smile.
Once everyone had their fill of food and relaxed with some drinks, Y/N and Jody began clearing dishes and putting away the leftovers before promising to bring more beer and another bottle of wine from the kitchen when they were finished.
“You look happy,” Jody smiled fondly.
“I am,” Y/N nodded, unable to hide her grin.
“Is he treating you right?” The older woman asked next.
“Not just right, Jody. He makes me feel safe and loved and wanted. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
“Good. I’m happy for you, kiddo. You deserve all of it,” Jody hugged her tightly and added, “And if he puts a toe out of line, he is a dead man!” The women chuckled, and Jody pulled back slightly. “Come on, let’s get these drinks out there and join the celebrations.”
Jody placed a cooler filled with ice, beer and a bottle of wine onto the table, and Y/N gave out clean glasses and placed the corkscrew and bottle opener next to it. John and Sam passed out the drinks, and when no one was left empty-handed and had settled into conversation, Dean stood and gathered everyone’s attention.
“As I’m sure you all know, I’m not good with words and find it hard to talk about my feelings. Today, I’m putting that aside to celebrate a great mentor, a great Chief, and an even greater man. I’ve been in Bobby’s Firehouse since I was a cocky probie, and he quickly knocked that out of me completely! He taught me all I know, and that’s why stepping into his shoes isn’t as terrifying now as it was the first time Bobby told me that one day, I’d be sitting in his seat.
“So, cheers, Bobby! Thank you for having patience with me, for mentoring me and teaching me all I know, for seeing something in me that I couldn’t, and for treating me like family. In and out of the Firehouse.” Dean said, and cries of cheers, congratulations and clinking glasses rang through the backyard. He cleared his throat, letting them know he wasn’t finished yet.
“I know we’re here to celebrate Bobby’s retirement and my promotion, but I’m hoping we might have another reason to celebrate. It’s times like this that I wish I could be more articulate and find the right words to talk about how I feel and the million things I really want to say… need to say. And I promise to try, but for now, the only words I have are the most important ones… Y/N,” Dean’s voice cracked as he got down on one knee before her and pulled out a little velvet box. “Will you marry me?”
Y/N’s hand flew to her mouth in shock, and tears flooded her eyes. This was all she’d ever wanted. All she’d dreamed about. A second chance with the one that got away.
“Yes!” she answered, a shriek of laughter coming straight after as Dean lifted her, held her in his strong embrace, and spun her around.
THE END

— beaming. ( bobby moch x reader )
a.n. inspired by the lovely request/idea from @lilfreebee
contains. swearing? possibly i dunno it’s me, fem!reader, makeouts, suggestive at the end but no full smut ( weak for your love by thee sacred souls was stuck in my head as i wrote this )
washington won their biggest race yet, pushing them closer to competing for a spot in the olympics. the anxiety was gone, and the crew was joyous, and their energy continued through the weekend.
a party followed after the competition, food was prepared, decorations were put up as quickly as possible for the winning team, and everyone had their party outfits ready.
what made it more exciting was that the party was for the home team, not their competitors. the party was packed and filled with joy. it was simply a sweet night to be a part of. the boys were happy to attend, talking with girls or people who had any question or infatuation with their sport; with their win.
bobby moch was on his high horse, it didn’t go away all weekend. his crew complained about his high ego, but they couldn’t deny that theirs were up a bit too. however, the crew claimed bobby’s napoleon complex was at its peak that night, never shutting up even when he threatened them with tougher strokes for the next practice.
but the threats stopped and bobby was less egotistical when an angel sat at his table. “bobby.” she smiled, leaning back in her seat. “y/n.” he returned, grinning like a little kid. behind him, some of his friends laughed, knowing he was now nervous. “how’re you?” he asked, giving her his full attention.
for a while now, bobby and y/n had seen each other at races, class, and bobby noticed her in the hallways passing by. they both started college the same year, so bobby always had an eye on y/n. from his freshman year, he was whipped. and now here she sat, at his table, in a fitting dress and her hair perfect. she was perfect.
“i’m good, the party is nice. how are you, moch?” she asked, smiling at him. bobby glanced at her painted lips, smiling back at her. “i’m great, actually.” he replied, subconsciously leaning towards her. she looked around, noticing all the guys had some girl’s attention; meanwhile she had his. “any girls demand dances or have they fallen at your feet yet?” y/n asked, looking back at him and raising an eyebrow.
a few did, but he wouldn’t admit it completely.
bobby shook his head, “not any of interest. i don’t think they truly have any interest anyway.” he replied, catching y/n by surprise. “do you have a certain interest?” she teased, surveying the crowd again to see if there was any girl looking at him or glaring at her. “you wouldn’t find her in the crowd.” bobby answered, his hand gently went over hers in a now or never action. y/n looked down at their hands, surprised.
a smile bloomed on her face, and she looked at bobby once again, he was beaming at her. “you’re my interest.” he admitted, making a face at how it sounded. y/n laughed and bobby felt his heart melt and his blood rush. “you’re mine too, moch. i didn’t think i had a shot.” she replied, squeezing his hand. bobby shook his head, “you have every shot in the world.” he assured, getting up and pulling y/n up with him.
“would you dance with me?”
and so for the next half hour, the two laughed, talked, and danced. they both were tipsy and bobby felt like the luckiest man in the world. as he spun y/n around he noticed his best friend and best stroke sitting on the bench alone.
bobby pulled y/n to him to make her see what he was seeing. “hold on my dear, i gotta get this guy a girl or something.” he spoke, leaving y/n on the dance floor. she smiled and let out a small chuckle, turning to dance with another teammate of bobby’s. they all knew her, and respected her. after months and months of bobby’s rambles about her and every moment shared between them; they all admired her.
somedays, bobby was less of an ass because of her.
before y/n knew it, bobby returned and created a plan with the guys. his hand on her back as he discussed his idea, “he’s great at the piano, you have to hear him play.” he said to y/n, grinning as he ran to the microphone. y/n stood in the crowd, trying not to laugh as she watched bobby gather everyone’s attention and the boys drag don up to the piano.
bobby helped don sit down, he leaned over. “can you play something i can dance with y/n to?” he whispered, don looked at him looking clueless, but he nodded. the boys all returned to y/n, smiling up at don and egging him on to play.
y/n noticed the feeling of bobby’s hand on her back once again while the other rested on her shoulder, keeping her close while they watched. she tried to fight the burning feeling on her face.
to gather the crowd, don first played washington’s anthem; getting everyone to sing. and like promised, he played a song for bobby to dance to.
bobby spun y/n around and pulled her close, his face close to hers. “you’re quite a catch, you know that?” she complimented, dancing smoothly with him. “i’m glad you caught me.” he replied, smiling at her and taking in all of her beauty. from classes, catching each other with quick glances at races, and bobby sometimes working with her; this is all he ever wanted.
“im glad i did too.” she replied, squeezing his hand gently. bobby kept her close, “after this song would you like to get some air?” he asked. y/n raised an eyebrow then nodded, “my feet are getting tired anyway.” she informed, still moving with him. once don finished and the two cheered for him, they both went to gather their things.
bobby waited for y/n, his hand out for hers to take. she did without hesitation, following him into the night. they walked in silence towards y/n’s dorm, it was comfortable, yet there was so much running through their minds.
they made it to the front, y/n stood across from bobby with a sweet smile on her face. the tension that slowly grew between them was thicker than before, bobby silently backed her into the wall. “i had a great time.” bobby said, his voice low and his smile wide. y/n scanned his face, looking at his lips a few too many times.
“the great times don’t have to end.” she replied as he leaned in, her face nearly touched his and they both remained grinning. “can i?” bobby asked. “please do.” she whispered, and before she knew it his lips were on hers.
bobby was pressed against y/n as they kissed, one turned into more, many more. y/n’s hand wrapped around his tie, bringing bobby in. she pulled away for air, her eyes eagerly meeting his. he was in awe of her, his face was flushed and he could feel the warmth of hers in his hand. “want to take this inside?” she whispered, smiling bashfully.
bobby couldn’t form words, simply nodding as she let go of his tie, kissed his lips quickly, and led him to her room quickly.
the two barely made it into the door before his hands were on her again and his lips were on her. despite his confidence, being with her and as close to her as he could get made him beyond nervous. however, he was calmed by her touch; her hands in his hair, touching his arms, resting on his shoulders, or squeezing them. her touch was relaxing, somewhat grounding.
her hands never left him, and his never left her. as clothes were discarded and hair was messed up, they always kept one another in touch.
her hips, her hands, and her legs felt perfect under his touch. her skin soft against his calloused hands, she was like silk. the night with her was blissful, one unexpected but welcomed.
bobby felt like the luckiest man alive in the past 48 hours, but his favorite memories of the time was the hours spent with the girl he admired so. he didn’t care what they did, he was just happy to be with her. and his heart felt whole when it was clear she was just as happy for the same reasons.
together they laid in her bed, still somehow nervous after what had happened between them. bobby held y/n’s face and placed few kisses on her cheek and forehead, letting her rest her head on his chest. he never wanted to leave this moment.

a/n: warning for talk about anxiety medications, i wanted to include this as it’s something i’ve struggled with myself, hope you enjoy <3
y/n hadn’t told buck about her new medications she’s been taking to combat everything in her life. she almost felt embarrassed to say that she had to take meds to battle her anxiety. she thought she could do it on her own, and maybe she could eventually, but she needed help for now. buck was the toughest guy she had ever been with, the most loving and caring boyfriend. he was an ideal lover to have, and she cherished him. however, she was still scared he would be disappointed in her. she didn’t want him to think less of her now.
all medication comes with side effects, but y/n never really thought anything of it. the drowsiness, the dizziness, was all something she thought of as temporary. so, she continued pushing through it at home and at work. she felt like she had a lot to do, and couldn’t waste any time with worrying more about herself. she practiced other methods of calming her anxiety as well because the brain needs more than a few chemicals.
she’d been at home one night alone, buck was supposed to come over when he got off his 24-hour shift. he’d be tired, and she would be there with open arms for him to be held in. she was standing in her kitchen, trying to distract herself from the effects of the new medicine she was taking. she was wobbly and fatigued, but she finished up everything she was supposed to finish. distractions never work, as it couldn’t have prevented her from the black and white sparkles in her eyes that formed from her exhaustion.
“118, this is dispatch requesting an additional unit to 723 spring hill boulevard,” the staticky voice came through bobby’s radio. the team had already been on their way back after another call, but another duty called. bucks heart paused as he heard the address come through. he knew it all too well, being there almost all the time.
“wait, what? did they say spring hill?” he panics.
“yeah, why?” hen questions.
“isn’t that-“
“y/n’s apartment building,” buck speaks, trying to mentally prepare himself for anything the world might throw his way.
bucks been through a lot, from childhood to working with the LAFD. nothing compares to the fear he’s feeling as he sees the thick clouds of smoke and flame rise out of the building.
“buck, eddie, get in there and line those hoses up, hen, chim, start evacuating as many people as you can and anyone who needs medical attention, bring them to the white tent,” bobby demands, pulling out bags and supplies of gear out as buck grabs a hose and sprints into the burning building.
her body felt frozen, like she couldn’t move. the alarms had been going off, but they somehow sounded distant and foggy in her mind. y/n lay on the floor, feeling a throbbing pain in her head as she saw the rusty red liquid on the floor around her. she wanted so badly to get up, but the impact her head made with the surface made it near impossible.
buck had done his job, watching other firefighters with their hoses to take down the embers that were consuming the building. he didn’t care if she’d been evacuated already, he forced himself to make sure she was ok. he rapidly piled up the stairs and kicked her door open, only to be confronted with eerie darkness and smoke. “y/n?” he yelled. “y/n!”
he gazed around the room, searching for any signs of her she could, because the floor seemed untouched. “y/n! are you in here?”
he thought he was hallucinating when he saw her shoes in the corner of his eye, connected to her legs on the floor. he bolted over, making contact with her unconscious body on the floor. he wanted to be dreaming, he wanted a fucked up nightmare in his mind, but it was nothing but reality.
she was surrounded by blood, too much to be safe. the corner of her kitchen island had small patches of blood on it, a few of her belongings had fallen next to her. she was slumped on her side, and buck was alarmed at the lack of movement from her chest. “y/n! oh my god,” he flipped her over to see a huge gash on her head, warm blood seeping out. she bashed her head hard on the counter, and he figured she was knocked out cold from the impact.
his fingers landed on the side of her neck, flicking her soft locks out of the way. her pulse was thready, almost nonexistent. he slipped her into his arms, shuffling down the stairs and out of the building when he was confronted with the rest of his coworkers. “guys! hey!”
“buck!” chim runs over with a stretcher, placing her on. “what the hell happened?”
“she hit her head, she must’ve passed out and probably has smoke inhalation,” he says, breathless as he watches hen connect a portable machine to her. chimney climbed up, not hesitating to perform CPR on her frail body. buck watched in horror, tears in his eyes and shaking hands. he climbed into the ambulance with her, gripping her unresponsive hand. the whole ride to the hospital was filled with chaos in his brain, frantically awaiting the moment where she would be saved. her gentle eyes flutter open, squinting at the fast shakes of the aid car. she was connected to several different tubes and wires, she looks around, desperately trying to land on buck, knowing he’d be there.
“hey, y/n,” he speaks over the deafening sirens above them. “it’s ok, you fell and hit your head, but you’re gonna be ok, baby, i swear.”
she peels the oxygen mask off her face. “i-i’m sorry, buck.”
“for what? you don’t have to be sorry for anything.”
“i tried to ignore it, i was so embarrassed for you to find out,” she peeps out, leaving a confused man sitting beside her.
“what? what do you mean?” the ambulance comes to a stop, the back doors are pulled open and her stretcher is wheeled out. her eyes are starting to droop again, the tiredness beginning to take over again as buck watches them take her away from his hold. he just wants to be with her, to hold her hand, and maybe even for someone to hold his.
y/n underwent several tests and scans for a brain injury, but nothing seemed as bad as it looked. the blood on the floor was permanently engraved in bucks head, not being able to shake the sight. the thought of walking in on the love of his life dead, not being able to be saved, stung his heart. thankfully, her tests came back clean, showing a near healthy brain containing a severe concussion from the impact.
buck sat beside her on the bed, ash on his skin and in his messy hair. he was afraid to even touch her, looking at her sleeping figure with a piece of gauze around her head. earlier, he wanted nothing but to hold her, but he was petrified of hurting her even more. flashes of her limp body in his arms and her dangling arms were like a tv screen in front of his eyes. his heart beat for her, even when hers couldn’t handle the pressure.
her room was dim, the lights turned low to prevent any more discomfort to her head. the only sounds that were heard was the light inhales from y/n, and the murmuring of nurses outside.
buck had been told it was her new medicine that caused her to faint. it clicked in his mind that that was what she felt the need to apologize for. even more puzzlement flew through his thoughts. no one ever needs to feel bad that they need help. not everyone has the means in them do to it alone, and that’s ok. he knew she struggled with anxiety, but he wanted to be able to help her if she was having such a hard time. he wants to be there for her.
her head was pounding when her eyes opened softly. the dimmed room wasn’t enough, almost any sight causing an extreme ache. her vision cleared, and she slowly but madly darted her eyes around the room. they instantly landed on her boyfriends, feeling immediate relief he was there. she’d been so alone the last few weeks, and him being there made it feel like the entire earth was on her side. she moved her fingers in a desire that his hand would be in his, but it was empty. his elbows were on his knees and his eyes were red and bothered.
“hey,” he said after noticing her disturbed expression. “you’re ok, you just hit your head. your building caught on fire, but everyone’s ok.”
she mumbled a few words that were inaudible, before clearing her head and trying again. “i remember you found me.”
“always, i’ll always find you.”
“buck, i’m s-“
“no, listen,” he begins. “do not ever try and apologize for something that’s not your fault. i know you’re taking medicine, but that doesn’t make me love you any less. you are the strongest person i have ever known, and you’ll stay that way for the rest of our lives. my heart has your name written all over it, y/n.”
“i love you, buck,” she replies in a hushed tone. “more than anything.”

YES SEB MY LOVE <33
Pairing: Bob Floyd x Reader warnings: fucking fluffy as fuck Bob Floyd Masterlist | Main Masterlist 3 fucking K Celebration
Bob was head over heels and he hadn't even learned your name yet. He watched you walk into the Hard Deck, a big bright smile on your face. It was one of those smiles that demanded everyones attention, but you didn't bask in the glow of having all eyes on you.
He silently watched you from a far, sipping on his sparkling water as you laughed and danced with some of your friends. You were so care free as you tilted your head back in laughter. God, even from across the crowded bar Bob could hear your laughter and it was the most beautiful sound he had ever heard.
Bob thought he was being cautious with his looking at you, but it was the eagle eyed pilot that knew him all too well. Phoenix knew Bob was distracted, as she had to call his name a couple times to alert him of his next turn in pool. She squinted her eyes at him, and then searched the bar to see what could be causing his trouble.
A smirk rose to Phoenix's lips as she spotted you, "She's a pretty one," Phoenix said to Bob.
"W-who is?" Bob asked and cursed himself for stuttering. Phoenix jerked her head in your direction, "Oh yeah. . . her."
"Mhm, her," Phoenix said, "You going to talk to her?"
"Oh, no, I don't think so," Bob shook his head, "She's with her friends and I don't want to intrude."
"Nonsense," Phoenix took to pool stick from her WSO's hand and then shoved him towards the bar, "Go talk to her."
"Phoenix no, this is a bad idea!" But Bob's protests fell on deaf ears as he stumbled over to where you were at. He was hoping you hadn't noticed, but when he looked up at you, it was clear you had. You smiled at him and all Bob could muster, besides blush like a fool, was a small wave. You giggled and turned back to your friends and a small smile graced Bob's features.
You excused yourself from your friends and walked over to Bob, "Hi there."
"Hello," Bob answered, "I'm Bob, my uh, my friends said I should come talk to you."
"I'm Y/N, and my friends said the same thing," You said back, "Can I get you a drink?"
"Oh, I don't drink," Bob shook his head.
"How about a Shirley temple then?" You asked and Bob nodded. You turned around and walked to the bar, ordering Bob the mock-tail. He easily moved his way towards you, standing a respectful distance away from you, but not too far that you didn't know he was there. You smiled to yourself, this was different than most guys you met at a bar. You thanked Penny when she gave you the drink and then turned to give it to Bob. He noticed a similar red drink in your hand as well.
"Cheers, Bob," You said and lifted your glass. Bob nodded and lifted his too. You took a sip and felt the refreshing drink hit your tongue.
"Do you think the moon is jealous of how pretty you are?" Bob asked and you froze for a second. He was shocked that he had even said the pick-up line that he heard Hangman try, and fail, to use on women. His heart was in his stomach as he watched you for a moment, and then a smile spread across your pink lips.
"I'm not sure. Do you know CPR? Cause you just took my breath away."
Bob laughed at your silly pick-up line. He knew right then and there, you were going to be his forever.

Sweet Heart-to-Heart
Gabriel x Reader
A/N: I’ve been sucked back into this fandom against my will but oh well. This silly goofy man has my heart in a chokehold once again so here’s something entirely self indulgent and unwarranted
Original Imagine/Summary Thingy: You have a heart-to-heart with the Trickster, and in return, he rediscovers a part of himself in you.
Warnings: just one unexpected, non-consensual kiss. Other than that, there’s some angst and talk of the apocalypse. Reader doesn’t know that the Trickster is really Gabriel. This is set during Changing Channels in season five, so yeah!
Word Count: 3k
It had already been a rough day, a rough week honestly, and the last thing you needed was to enter an old paper mill and suddenly find yourself in the middle of some weird medical drama. You were wearing scrubs, the white coat, tennis shoes and all.
Now y’all knew this was the trickster. At least that was the running theory, so you were expecting something weird but this was…not what you were expecting.
And you certainly weren’t expecting some random guy dressed in scrubs to rush toward you with a bright smile, exclaiming “Doctor!” before holding your face in his hands and kissing you smack on the lips.
You were shocked to say the least, frozen in place for a second before regaining your senses. You take the strange nurse’s arm, spinning him to twist his arm behind him, slamming him into the closest wall.
“What the HELL do you think you’re doing?” You demand.
“Doctor! There’s no need to be so violent! It’s me Derek, remember!”
“I don’t know any Derek. Keep your hands off me and your mouth away from me y’hear?”
“But just yesterday, you confessed your love for me!” He insisted, struggling against your hold.
“I haven’t confessed shit and I’ve been here all of two minutes. Now you’ve got ten seconds to get out of my sight before I slap you five ways to Sunday. Got it?”
The strange nurse nodded frantically. The second you let him go he scurried off down the hall, rubbing at his pained wrist.
“We gotta get outta here.” You grumbled, clenching your fists and taking a deep breath.
“No kidding.” Sam agreed.
After a great deal of confusion, countless “seriously”s and Dean damn near fangirling over “Dr. Sexy” the Trickster showed himself, laughing at Dean's frustration.
You didn’t really pay attention to their conversation. You were on the verge of losing it. You almost lost Bobby a few days ago in that damn poker game, you keep hitting dead ends in your research on the apocalypse, and today just…the motel’s water heater was broken so your shower was cold, you had to heckle the police to talk to Mrs. Randolph, and just now that nurse had kissed you out of nowhere. You were frustrated and tired and at the end of your rope.
The Trickster’s voice pulled you out of your thoughts, “And sorry about that nurse Sugar. That wasn’t in the plan. A mishap on set. He’s been let go.”
But the Trickster’s apology had fallen on frustrated ears, and his words had stung, the nonchalance of them striking so deep that something in you snapped.
He was shocked when you slammed his body against the wall. You damn near took the breath from his lungs you were so fast, and your hold on him was stronger than iron. But what got him the most were your eyes.
Y’know, you’d always been kind to him. Sweet even. You warned him of the Winchester’s ambush at the college; you kept Sam from killing him during the whole Mystery Spot debacle. You’d never been rude or short or bitter towards him. And your eyes, they were always full of compassion and warmth and something sweet in them that drew him to you.
But today, today there was no kindness in your eyes; no warmth or compassion. They were hard and cold as ice - brows furrowed until your eyes were shadowed. You grit your teeth, hissing at him with heaving breaths while staring dead into his wide eyes: “Not. Today.”
You blinked, and suddenly you were alone in an empty room. Well, not just any room. An auditorium - center stage, looking out upon rows of empty seats. It was the auditorium from your old high school.
“Alright Trickster, what do you want? I’ve had a long fucking week and I am not in the mood to play games. What’s the catch this time?” You called up to the roof of the auditorium, throwing venom into the air.
You were surprised when the trickster showed himself. No disguises or anything. Just him with his golden hair and whiskey eyes walking onto the stage from the wings.
“No catch. At least not for you. The bros are in the middle of somethin’, but you don’t have to worry about them. They’ll live.”
You gave him a skeptical look, then softened a bit. Your shoulders slouched and you looked away from him, down to the floor of the stage. It even had all the scuff marks and tape remains from years of use.
“Do you like it?” His voice rang from beside you.
“Huh?” You asked, looking up at him and quirking a brow.
“The stage? Do you like it?”
“Oh. Yeah. It’s--how’d you know about it?” You gave him a confused look and he gave you a small smile.
“I saw it in one of your memories. Thought it might help.”
“Oh so you read minds now too huh?”
He didn’t respond to that, but if you weren’t mistaken, there was a little embarrassed twinge of pink on his cheeks.
You let out a heavy sigh and sat on the edge of the stage, your feet dangling and swinging off the edge, “Did you actually bring me here or is it just a recreation?”
“It’s a recreation.” He answered, coming to sit beside you.
“You did a damn good job. You even got the scratch from the Cello Incident of ‘99.”
“The Cello Incident of ‘99? Sounds like a hell of a story.”
“It is.” There's a small waver to your voice as you look down to your hands, fiddling with a hangnail.
It was quiet for a moment and you were so lost in your thoughts that you didn’t notice the Trickster watching you. He had been looking at the stage around him, wondering which scratch was the infamous one, but his eyes had snapped straight to you when he heard the waver in your voice. It sounded like you were about to cry, and that made some part of him, deep deep down, very pissed. But when he heard a small sniffle and a deep breath, he softened and concern poured through him.
“Are you okay Sugar? I don’t mean to be too nosy, but, just a minute ago, well, I’ve never seen you that angry before and now that you’ve had a moment, you seem…broken, for lack of a better word.”
You huff a laugh, “Yeah, that’s a good word for it. I’ve just…I’ve got a lot of shit going on right now and I-I might—“ you sigh and look out to the empty balcony, trying to regain your composure, “I might have to face a future that absolutely fucking terrifies me.”
“What future is that?” His voice is soft and careful. There’s something brimming under the surface - he swears he can feel it bubbling beneath your skin, but he doesn’t want to push you too hard.
You take another deep breath before looking to him, “One where I lose my brothers.”
He’s quiet for a second, eyes widening before he blinks. “I’ve got no plan on killing them, just so you know. Yeah they’re probably gonna get a little beat up, but they’ll be alright. Nothing will kill them where I’ve put them.”
“That’s not what I’m worried about. At least that wasn’t what I was talking about just now.”
“Then what is it?”
You sigh, something you seem to be doing a lot of today, before you begin to explain.
“Listen, angels are real okay? Angels, demons, heaven, hell, it’s all real, and right now, I’m sure you’ve noticed, everything’s going apeshit,” He nodded giving you a concerned look, “Well, that’s because Sam and Dean accidentally set off the apocalypse, and now….God, I don’t even know about now.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, there’s these two Archangels, Michael and Lucifer right? The Devil, yeah. So, basically, angels can take humans as vessels - kinda hijack the person's body and use it as their own. In shorthand, it allows them to walk the earth without burning out the eyes of anyone who sees them. And as it turns out, Sam is supposedly this destined vessel for Lucifer, and Dean is the same but for Michael.” The trickster watches you as you speak and something old and long ignored starts to stir in his gut, “And basically, I’m not sure what all happened, but these two angels, they betrayed each other and now they’re gonna fight, taking my brothers as their vessels because for some reason they have to fight each other with vessels and they have to duke it out on earth, and they’re gonna kill each other and it’ll end the world, but the worst part—“
“They’ll kill Sam and Dean in the process.” He finishes for you when you can’t, when there are tears brimming your eyes.
You nod, taking a shuddering breath.
“Y’know, I’ve been traveling with them since I was fourteen. My parents were hunters. They went on jobs with John Winchester all the time so I’ve known the brothers since I was a kid. But there was one job - some vampires - that didn’t work out so well. The nest of vamps they were hunting killed my parents and John just took me in after that. I went to high school with the brothers. Even went to prom with Sam once,” The trickster made a face at that, “I grew up with them from that point on. From motel rooms, to small beginning hunts, all the way to now.” You smiled at the memories despite their bittersweet twinge, and your eyes remained fixed on your hands.
“You’ve been with them a long time. And here I was thinking it was a coincidence you were always around when I ran into the Winchesters.” The Trickster joked, earning a huffed laugh out of you.
“Yeah. And after all this time they’re just as annoying as they’ve always been. They’re just taller and they have deeper voices now. That’s it. Still can’t communicate worth a damn and they shoot before asking any questions.”
“So I’ve noticed. Thanks again for the warning back at the college. And for the Mystery Spot.”
“You don't have to keep thanking me. The huge bag of mini M&Ms and the little ‘thank you’ card got the message across.” You smile at him. There’s still the remnants of glossiness in your eyes, but seeing that smile made the Trickster beam inside.
“So your brothers can’t communicate worth a damn? That must be frustrating.” He says, laughing to himself at the irony of that statement. He knows damn well how frustrating it is.
“Yeah. It’s mostly misunderstandings, and they often refuse to tell eachother what’s really on their mind, whether it’s a concern, or a worry, or something they think, for some reason, they have to keep secret. They hide what they really think and feel from one another and all it does is cause problems.” You grimace, letting go of a breath, “The worst though is when they fight. Like genuinely fight. Like, yelling and arguing and going separate ways. It’s been a constant since right before Sam left for college and it’s become an inevitable truth with those two. If they’re not fighting now, they will be sometime in the future. But as annoying as it is they’re still the closest thing I have to a family so I stick with them and intervene when they’re being stupid.”
“Well, you’ve done a pretty good job of that from what I’ve seen.”
You smiled at his compliment, not missing the sincerity in his tone, “Thanks.”
You’d gone silent again, and the trickster worried that you were getting stuck in your head so he spoke up. “So. The apocalypse huh?”
“Yeah.” Your voice was despondent, hollow and tired.
“What’s your plan? I know you Winchesters don’t go easy. If there’s trouble, you’re gonna fight it.” He asked, thinking about the brothers and where they are now, knowing that exact stubbornness is what landed them in TV Land.
“I don’t know,” your voice began to quiver again. Just mentioning the apocalypse was enough to put a lump in your throat, “I feel so useless in all this, and damnit I’m trying to find some way to stop the apocalypse. Anything at all, but everything leads to a dead end and there's just…nothing,” You take a few heaving breaths, and look up to the ceiling so the tears don’t fall from your eyes, “An-and I keep looking for-for answers in new places and I’m willing to try any solution I find, but we can’t find anything. I-I just—I don’t wanna watch my brothers die and-and I don’t wanna end up alone, but I-I can’t stop it. I can’t help them and I’m just…useless.” You whisper with a lump caught in your throat. You gave up, tears are streaming down your face and you’re trying so, so hard not to sob as you speak. “And, unless I can find some miracle solution, I have to sit back and watch my brothers kill each other because two stupid idiots can’t sit down and work out their issues. Could they come together and talk it out? No! Of course not! It just has to be a celebrity deathmatch. The world has to end. All because two brothers won’t fucking talk to one another!”
He feels like he’s looking at a mirror image of himself. Everything you’re going through, fuck, he’s debating telling you who he really is. He figured you’d be pissed at him if he did, and you’d have every right to be. But he can’t help seeing some of himself in you. He knows what you’re feeling and part of him wants to tell you that you’re not alone, and you won’t ever be as long as he’s around.
He hears a sharp breath and he snaps back into reality, noticing how hard you’re straining yourself to avoid crying.
“Hey, come here,” he offers, opening his arms to wrap them around your shoulders. You immediately fall into him and wrap your arms around him, hiding in the crook of his neck, “It’s okay to cry Sugar. Let it out, it’s okay.”
You tremble in his arms before a violent sob rips from your throat. You squeeze him tight and burrow yourself in his neck, clinging to the only thread of safety you’ve felt in weeks.
“I know, I know, it’s alright. You’re safe here. Let it all out.” He’s gentle with you. One arm holds you against him while the other is gently running through your hair. His voice is soft again as the bubbling ache beneath your skin rears its head and shows itself.
There’s a pit deep in his stomach. Seeing you cry - you, the person whose saved his hide twice now, whose always been kind to him, whose given him a chance when all the Winchesters want to do is stake him, you with the compassionate eyes that see so much more of him than anyone else - seeing you cry makes his blood boil. And knowing his brothers have to do with it makes him want to take his archangel blade and have a heart-to-heart with both of them.
And then there’s the Winchesters. Yeah this was all predetermined. Yeah, Lucifer and Michael were always destined for those two. But Sam and Dean were ultimately the ones who kickstarted all of it. Even if it was an accident, they’re one of the reasons you’re crying right now and god, he hates it. He wants to void any agreement he made with the brothers and leave them in TV Land for the rest of eternity.
But he can’t do that. He knows you’d miss them. Them disappearing would be as bad as them dying, or worse, and there’s no way he could put you through that. He may not be their biggest fan, but they matter to you and there’s not a chance in hell he’d ever want to make you cry.
So he sits there with you on the edge of the stage, holding you and whispering reassurances in your ear while you sob and leave tear stains on his jacket.
He doesn’t mind of course. He’d hold you like this til’ the end of time if you’d let him. He’d be there to dry every tear and chase away any danger. He’d carry you in his arms and protect you from every fear you’ve ever known. All you’d have to do is say the word.
Not that you know that. And not that you will. At least not for now.
But there is something pulling at him, urging him to show you that he cares. There's a part of him that just wants to hold you tight against him and tell you that everything’s gonna be fine no matter how grim the future looks.
So despite what he knows about his brothers and the apocalypse; despite that he doesn’t believe what he's about to say is true, he’s overwhelmed by this need to comfort you. He wants to give you some shining ray of hope even if he doesn’t think there is one. So he leans down to your ear and whispers gingerly, “You’ll find a way to save them. I know you will.”
For a second he debated whether to add on his final thought, a little addendum to what he’d said. But when you squeeze him again, and look up at him with wide, tear-filled eyes, it just slips out, “And no matter what happens, I swear that you won’t end up alone. You will never be alone.”
You nod, a glint of hope just starting to shine in your eyes, “Thank you Trickster.”
You sniffle a few times and he poofs up a box of tissues for you. You thank him with a quiet laugh.
“You know, we’ve met so many times, you should probably give me something to call you other than just ‘Trickster.”
He huffed a laugh. Maybe this wasn’t the time for the whole truth to come out, but maybe a little sliver of the truth wouldn’t hurt for the moment. “You can call me Gabe if you like.”
You nod, “Thank you Gabe, for everything.”
“Anything for you Sugar.”

Hi I got a supernatural request for Dean Winchester!!! Maybe Dean and reader reuniting after he gets back from hell..
Yeih! thank you for the request, I hope you like it! my first Dean Winchester, I loved writing it
Baby I’m back, no takebacks
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Fem!Reader
Warnings: A gun and gun pointing, cursing, talks of death, demons and angels, dean is back from the dead!, all the supernatural related family business, smut (nothing described)
+ 18, MINORS DNI
Notes: Yeah my first Supernatural request I love this! let’s give it a spin
This domesticity didn’t suit you, and you felt terribly guilty when you grabbed a kitchen knife instead of a demon killing dagger.
But this is what Dean would have want for you
A boring suburban house, making your own meals, a daily schedule, a boring job. You sighed when you finished cutting that tomato for your salad… Feeling again… guilty. What could Bobby be up to? Maybe he needed some help, or Sam, you haven’t spoken to him in nearly a week. You knew that giant bastard was keeping cases and things from you, because he knew what you needed, or what he thought you needed, to stay out of the business and have a normal and boring life.
Your eyes drifted to that picture of you and Dean, both leaning into the front of the Impala, his arms surrounding your waist and you leaning in and your hand on his chest, big smiles on your faces. You missed him so much
You swallow your own tears as you payed attention to the salad you were making, suddenly you were craving burgers a beer and pie as a dessert.
What were you even doing? All the things you knew about the supernatural… you had a responsibility to help people, innocent people who didn’t know and could become victims… This is why hunters can’t stay away from the business. Spiderman said that with power comes great responsibility, you’d argue that with knowledge comes even a greater one.
Perhaps you should call Sam…
Your line of thought was interrupted by the doorbell. And you sighed loudly, of course your annoying neighbor who had nothing to do with her life is nagging you for the neighborhood bake sale. You had promised to make some chocolate chip cookies and now you were praying to Crowley to take possession of your neighbor so you could have a reason to stab her.
“Come in” you yelled, your hands clammy with tomato juice. You turned your back to the door while you grabbed a rag to wipe your hands
When you turn to meet your neighbor, a scream gets stuck in your throat as your heart almost jumps through your mouth. Dean was standing there, him, your boyfriend. You just stood there, your first instinct was to run towards him and engulf him in your arms, and the next…
“Honey, I’m back!” he said, his voice made your spine tickle
With a painful whine you jump towards the kitchen counter and grab the gun you had taped under it. Without a second thought you pointed the revolver filled with silver bullets towards the man you loved
He was dead
He immediately raised his hands in surrender but you just unlocked the safety and kept pointing the gun at him
“Who the fuck are you?” you demanded, pointing at him with the gun and tears in your eyes, “They took everything from me but that wasn’t enough?” you screamed, “you have to torture me?”
“NO! PLEASE BABY, IT’S ME!” he yelled back
Sam came running in at that second, as you almost pulled the trigger, with his hands up as you pointed your gun also at him
“What the fuck?” you demanded
“I told you to leave me alone with her” muttered the alleged Dean
“And I told you she was going to blow your brains out” muttered Sam, “And not in the way she used too”
“What is this?” you demanded, pointing your gun back at Dean, or who he claimed he was
“It’s him (Y/N)” muttered Sam, “I promise” You took small plastic bottle and threw the holy water at them both, they closed their eyes in annoyance but didn’t sizzle, and then you grabbed the salt and threw it at them too and it was the same result, nothing, “It’s us” he continued. You squinted your eyes at them. Dean showed you a little slash he had in his arm, his blood red, normal
“Dean, is that you?” you cried
“Yeah baby” he murmured
"You promise?” you asked, your voice breaking and a single tear falling from your eye. Dean smiled at you, that side smile he always gave you, “Oh God” you dropped the gun and ran towards him, and he hugged you between his awaiting arms, “Dean” you grabbed his shirt with one hand and the back of his head with the other, relieve falling in the form of tears from your eyes. He hugged you tightly against him, his hand caressing your hair and the back of your head
“hey baby”
“You are back” you cried
“I am” you leaned back to look at his face, you still couldn’t believe it, this must be a dream, you caressed his cheek with longing, if this was some sort of hallucination or spell, you didn’t think you could survive it. “I’m here love, I’m real” he whispered, those moss-green eyes looking back at you and you believed him. He leaned down and caught your lips in his, kissing you roughly, with longing, with need, you knew he missed you as much as you missed him
Sam ran away as soon as he realized the kiss was escalating, and soon it did, his rough hands got under your clothes and his disappeared at all, you didn’t care the big windows of your house were wide open as much as your door and your annoying neighbor had the tendency of creeping in without knocking
You didn’t give a shit
Dean was back
You didn’t know how, or why, who brought him back, you let your bodies do all the talking. Dean seemed hungry, for you, for your body and you were also starving. You fucked him in any surface possible inside of your house, destroying everything in your ravenous pass
And ending in the bedroom
You had drained him completely, and Dean dropped in your bed almost unconscious. When he started snoring, indicating you he had leaped over to the seventh level of deep sleep, you called Sam in again.
There was so many questions you need answers to
You put a cup of coffee in Sam hands and you curled up in your robe in the couch in front of him
“Did he tell you what happened?” you asked him
“He just crawled out of the coffin we put him in, no memories of what happened in Hell, no nothing”
“Just like that?” you asked, with hope in your voice
“Just like that” he answered
“This is too good to be true” you murmured, “It has to be a trap, or some sort or payment… a sacrifice”
“There isn’t one” assured Sam, and you looked at him suspiciously
“Sam promise me you didn’t do something, you didn’t offer your soul, or anything like that”
“I didn’t” he looked at you with those eyes of his and you believed him, “did you?” you shook your head
“No” you assured him, “Who would have the power to bring him back?” you asked
“We have been looking, at least no demon claimed responsibility”
“I’m so scared Sammy, this is too good to be true, what if...?”
“Nothing” you jumped when Dean appeared through the door frame, you knew him, he wanted to be angry, you were talking about him, but when he saw the concern in yours and his brother’s face, he softened. He walked towards you and cradled your face in his big hands, “No one is going to take me away from you again baby, I’m already out of hell, no take backs”
“No take backs” you whispered

The Story of Us-Chapter 20
A/N: This is a rewrite of a story my good friend @spnbaby-67 allowed me to take and rewrite. All mistakes are mine. This is canon divergent, meaning some things that happened in the show will still happen here but with my own twist to it.
Summary: She and Dean met when they were kids. Even at such a young age, she knew that he was her soulmate. Being the daughter of a hunter, Michaela (Micki) Singer knew the life he led came with a price, but she was up to the challenge.
Pairings: Dean Winchester/reader, Sam Winchester/friend!reader, John Winchester, Mary Winchester (mentioned only), Bobby Singer, and more from the Supernatural universe.
Warnings: Flashbacks are in italics, fluffy stuff, angst stuff, character death, kidnapping, depression, semi-dark themes
Singer Salvage (May 2007)
Bobby and his daughter mourned Sam for hours until there were no tears left to cry and no more stories to reminisce. They both went their separate ways to clean up before reconvening in the kitchen.
Micki opens her mouth to tell her father the news she recently discovered but there was a knock on the door that interrupted her before she could speak.
Bobby looks at her silently asking if she was expecting someone but she shakes her head. He goes to the door and opens it, Micki right behind him. They’re astonished and confused when they see Sam standing beside his brother on the porch.
“Hey Bobby,” Sam says with a grin.
“Sam,” Bobby says, hesitantly, “It’s good to see you…up and about.”
“Yea. Um, thanks for patching me up.” Sam pats Bobby on the shoulder as he passes and smiles at Micki. “Hey Mick.”
When Sam lets her go to walk on into the house, both Bobby and Micki turn their heads from watching his descent to look at Dean.
Dean shifts from foot to foot and then smiles. “So Sam’s better. And we’re back in it,” he tells Bobby and then pushes past the older man and pulls Micki into his arms, kissing her passionately. A little too intense for Micki’s liking. Something is up; something ungodly.
Micki can tell from the kiss that Dean is trying to hide something. And she is determined to find out what!
When he pulls away, Micki eyes him and watches as he looks at everything but her. Oh, yea he is hiding something. Something major. But what?
Once the boys tell them about what the yellow-eyed demon disclosed to Sam, Bobby pulls out lore books and tomes and starts looking for answers. Sam begins reading some of the pages over the old man’s shoulder as Dean and Micki stay out of their way.
Dean still won’t look Micki in the eye, no matter how hard she tries to get his attention. Finally, when she is about to break and start asking him questions, Bobby speaks up.
“I got some more books in the truck,” Bobby says as he pushes away from the table and stands up. “Come on Dean. Come help me. You too Micki.”
Micki is following behind Dean and her dad until they get closer to the truck when Bobby suddenly stops and turns. “You stupid asshole! What did you do?” When Dean looks away, it’s all the confirmation that Bobby needs. “He shoves Dean. “You made a deal... For Sam, didn't you? How long did they give you?”
Micki's heart begins breaking as she realizes what her boyfriend had done. That’s why he wouldn’t look at her, wouldn’t meet her eyes. He felt guilty. Guilty and remorseful.
“Bobby,” Dean says but her dad cuts him off before he could say anything else. As Micki stands there and listens to Dean try to explain why he did what he did, Micki's heart breaks even more. It is completely shattered when Dean tells them how long he has left.
“One year.”
Micki breaks down in sobs as her dad and Dean’s conversation continues. “Which is why we gotta find this yellow-eyed son of a bitch,” Dean demands. “That's why I'm gonna kill him myself. I mean, I got nothing to lose now, right?”
Micki is seething through her tears as she listens to the love of her life belittle and dismiss his own life.
“Nothing to lose. That’s what you think?” Micki says as she reigns in her tears and stalks closer to him. She gets right in his face and if she wasn’t so angry, she might have triumphed over the fact that Dean seems frightened as he pulls back from her. “You goddamned idjit! I’m pregnant, you motherfucker! So yea, you got nothing to lose. Just a lifetime of watching our child grow up! I hate you,” she screams at him before rearing back and slapping him across the face. “I hate you!”
Micki turns and stalks back toward the house as she lets the tears flow. She bypasses Sam in the den and goes straight upstairs, slamming her bedroom door before falling face first onto the bed and crying harder.
Dean had sold his soul to bring his brother back! She couldn't be mad at him for that but she was fucking pissed that he did it so willingly, without so much as a thought of how it would affect her!
Singer Cabin (Present Day 2008)
There's a soft knock on the door as Micki is putting Maren down for the night.
"Mick? Sweetie, can I come in?" her dad's voice comes through.
"Yea dad, of course."
Micki watches her dad step into the room and turn to softly close the door so as not to wake the sleeping child in her bassinet.
He smiles at his daughter as she sits on the end of the mattress before glancing at his granddaughter.
"What's up Dad?"
"Can't I just want to spend time with you?" Bobby scoffs as he stands there, crossing his arms. "How ya doin'?"
"I'm good, Daddy."
"I know this has to have been hell for you. Dean's back but life ain't exactly the same."
Micki chuckles as she leans forward, her elbow on her knees. “No, it isn’t. So much has changed. We have a child but Dad, so much is still unchanged. It’s going to take some getting used to, him being here, but fuck if I ain’t ecstatic about it. I would change my whole life for that man.”
I know you would sweetie,” Bobby says as he joins her on the bed. “I know you would.”
“Can I ask you something Dad?” Micki asks as she sits back up, shoulder to shoulder with her father.
“What is it?”
“When he showed up at the house….” Micki begins and then pauses, pondering on how to word her question. “did you have to force him to come here? Was he, shit….did he even ask about me?”
Bobby smiles as he wraps an arm around his only daughter, his pride and joy.
“Girl, I couldn’t have kept that man away from coming up here if I tried.”

IN LIFE, IN DEATH...
PART SIX
:Masterlist:
Warnings: Swearing, fighting, angst (sorry <3)
A/N: this was definitely meant to be posted like a week ago but here it is! <3
---
August 1994
The florescent lights of the hospital waiting room were starting to give you a headache.
They were way too bright and flickered every so often that it made you dizzy to look at them. But you needed something to focus on to stave off boredom, so you focused your attention on the clock on the wall.
It read just after midnight and you silently cursed yourself, quickly pulling out your flip phone and dialing your mom’s number.
She was probably asleep by now, but thinking about her possibly waiting up and worrying made your stomach turn. The line rang for a moment, but then the ending tone chirped and you were left with her answering machine.
“Hey, Mom. Uh, we had a little accident at practice. Luke was practicing his guitar throw and he kind of threw out his shoulder. I’m gonna drop him off at home and then I’ll probably just stay at the studio so I’m not biking home so late. Okay, love you. Bye.”
You hung up the phone and shoved it in your pocket just as Luke appeared from behind the door. The nurse said something to him that made his eyebrows furrow but he nodded. As you got closer, you realized that his right arm was wrapped in a sling.
“So, you’re not dying?” You joked.
“I might as well be.” Luke pouted, lacing his other arm through yours as you start to walk out of the building and into the parking lot. “They said I can’t play guitar for two weeks.”
You hummed sympathetically, knowing more than anyone how much that was going to drive him crazy. “This is what you get for trying to be all ‘Rockstar’”
“Excuse you.” Luke said. “I am a rockstar.”
“Uh-huh.” You sarcastically nodded.
“You’re a jerk.” Luke grumbled petulantly, resting his head on your shoulder. “Here I am, in unimaginable pain and you have no sympathy.”
“Here’s a tip for the future, if you want sympathy then don’t make me drive through Hollywood past midnight.” You teased, lightly shaking him to show that you weren’t actually serious.
“I’m still surprised that Bobby let you drive ‘Amber’.” He gestured to the car you were walking towards.
‘Amber’ was a present that Bobby had gotten for his birthday a few years earlier and it was his most prized possession. Normally, he never would’ve let you take it, but he didn’t feel like driving and taking Luke to the hospital in the basket on your bike seemed a little impractical. So he had handed over the keys reluctantly.
“You got something to say about my driving skills, Patterson?” You asked as you unlocked the car and settled into the driver's seat. Luke got comfortable in the passenger seat, and winced as he looked over at you.
“Don’t get me wrong, (Y/n). You are many things,” He said. “But a good driver isn’t one of them.”
You flipped him off as you started the car and started pulling out of the parking lot. It was quiet for a minute, but just as you turned back on the street, Luke turned on the radio and a familiar song filled your ears.
“Mmm, yeah!
Tonight, I want to give it all to you,”
“Oh no.” You laughed, knowing exactly what you were in for from the way that Luke’s eyes lit up. He grinned as he cranked up the volume and shifted in his seat as much as he could, ready to give you the performance of a lifetime.
‘In the darkness, there's so much I want to do
And tonight, I want to lay it at your feet
'Cause girl, I was made for you
And girl, you were made for me,’
You were trying your best to keep your eyes on the road, but it was hard when Luke was being so frustratingly cute.
His hair was still messy from rehearsal so it stuck up in different directions and he had a dorky smile on his face as he drummed his fingers against the center console. You pulled up to a red light and Luke looked at you expectantly.
You rolled your eyes, but gave in, taking one hand off the wheel to make a makeshift microphone. Luke grinned as you both began to sing.
‘I was made for lovin' you, baby
You were made for lovin' me
And I can't get enough of you, baby
Can you get enough of me?’
One song turned into two, then three, then before you knew it, you had pulled onto Luke's street.
Unlike the rest of the neighborhood, every light in the Patterson household was glowing bright yellow into the night and Luke let out a heavy sigh.
"Thanks for driving me." He said, his voice suddenly a little quiet. You looked up to the window to see the shadows of Luke's worried parents as they passed the curtains and suddenly the levity in the air was gone.
"Of course." You said.
You both knew what was about to happen.
Luke had told you all about the famous Emily Patterson meltdowns, and how they had been getting more and more frequent since he formed the band. Luke spraining his shoulder was only going to give his mom more reason to push Luke away from music.
From your music.
"Hey," You reached over and interlocked his pinky with yours, making Luke raise his eyes from his feet. "Don't let her get in your head, okay? Our music is important, and I know she'll realize that someday."
Luke’s eyes held yours for what seemed like an eternity before lightly squeezing his pinky around yours. “How do you always know what to say?”
You laughed. “’Cause I’m the greatest best friend ever.”
Luke smiled, his eyes slowly drifting from your still connected hands back up to your face. “Yeah, you are.”
The softness in his voice made your heart skip a beat. “I’m serious though. We’ll get into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame someday and you’ll prove her wrong.”
Luke learned a little closer, his voice practically a whisper, "Is this your way of admitting that I actually am a rockstar?"
"Oh, shut up." You groaned as you threw your head back. "You're the worst, you know that?"
"You love me." Luke retorted.
"Unfortunately." You deadpanned. "Now get out of the car, dork."
Luke fake pouted as he wiggled out of his seat and started walking towards the door, he gave you a quick grin and a wave before disappearing into his house.
Once he was out of sight, you let out a sigh and leaned back against the seats, trying to remember the way his hand felt in yours.

2020
"(Y/n)! Where have you been?"
Alex demanded the second you stepped into the studio, a worried expression on his face. As soon as you left the diner so late, you knew that a lecture from Alex was coming.
"I’m sorry, Al." You said. "I just lost track of time."
"Were you with that guy from the diner?" He asked, crossing his arms and raising his eyebrow.
"Someone's in trouble." Reggie loudly whispered to Luke who was next to him on the couch. Just like usual, Luke barely spared you a glance before he glued his eyes back to his songbook.
"I don’t think you have any room to be teasing anyone about cute ghost boys.” You said, mirroring his position. “How was your afternoon with Willie?”
Across the room, you could’ve sworn Luke’s writing got heavier against the page. But when you looked over at him, he gave no other indication he was paying attention.
“Don’t change the subject,” Alex's cheeks turned a little pink but he stood his ground. “You’ve been gone for hours.”
“Hey,” You walked up and rested your hands on his shoulders. “I’m sorry I made you worry. But you don’t have to. I’m good.”
“Of course I’m gonna worry.” Alex said, finally dropping his grumpy face and nudging you. “What else are best friends for?”
This time it wasn’t your imagination, Luke’s writing was definitely getting harder, enough to where it was going to rip a hole in the paper. Reggie and Alex noticed this time too and you all exchanged confused looks but before anyone could say anything, Luke jumped up from the couch.
“So! We should get working on this song.” He puts the page on the piano for you all to read. “I could use your help on the bridge, (Y/n).”
Alex shot you one last confused look and you shrugged before shifting your focus to the song. It was mostly finished, and with Julie’s poem as a guide for the lyrics, you were confident that it would be one your best songs yet.
Next to you, Luke scanned the page with the edge of his pencil, pointing at things he wanted your opinion on. Even with all the tension surrounding the two of you lately, it was nice to know that you were still a great team when it came to music.
---
For someone who learned that ghosts exist, that four of them from the 90′s were living in her best friends garage, and that they were all in a band together in one afternoon,
Flynn took the news surprisingly well.
Which meant that once Julie agreed to join the band, Flynn immediately started coming up with T-shirt ideas and new band names. You weren’t surprised at all when Julie announced that Flynn had booked a gig at the school dance a few days later.
You had all decided on the setlist that morning and had been practicing all day. Which meant by mid-afternoon, you had everything memorized. Since it was the first performance with Julie as a part of the band, you figured that letting her take the lead with vocals would be a good idea.
During the second break of the day, Luke and Reggie were messing around up in the loft, leaving you and Julie with nothing to do. So she offered to teach you a little about piano. It was a slow-going process but you were slowly getting the hang of it. "Okay, so, like this?"
Julie watched carefully as your hand flew across the keys. You miraculously played all the right notes to the song that Julie had taught you over the past half-hour and she beamed.
“Yeah! That’s perfect!” She said, “Play it again.”
Your finger was about to press down on the key, but then Alex phased through the doors. Ever since yesterday, you had been waiting for a moment to tease him about Willie. It was only fair since he just grilled you about being out all day.
“Hey, Al.” You greeted as you stepped away from the keyboard and wiggled your eyebrows at him. “And just where have you been?”
“Yeah, man, we gotta start practicing.” Luke said.
“For what?” Alex asked just as Flynn came strutting into the room. You noticed the colorful paper in her hand and nodded your head toward it with a grin.
“For that.”
Flynn set the paper down on the keyboard to Julie to see.
Alex whined as he looked it over. “Aw, man. We’re playing a dance?”
“Yeah, it’s how you build a following these days.” Luke said as he plopped down into a chair.
“Yeah, get with the program, Alex.” Julie said and Luke laughed.
The sound drew your eyes to his face and you can’t help but stare at him as you tried to remember the last time you and Luke had joked around like that. It used to come so naturally, but now even just being around Luke felt like a ticking time bomb of awkwardness.
Luke’s eyes flitted up to yours for just a second and for the next few moments you couldn’t help but wonder if he was thinking the same thing.
Flynn shouted, breaking you out of your thoughts. “The band is here?”
She then proceeds to wave to the wrong side of the room and you laughed as Julie gestured towards where you all were actually sitting. You all still waved back despite knowing she couldn’t see you.
“Okay, so now that Alex has graced us with his presence, we should get back to rehearsing.” Luke said and everyone nodded in agreement.
But before any of you could move, Carlos strolled in. “Hey, Julie, remember those orbs from dad’s pictures? I think they’re ghosts.”
Julie’s eyes went wide as she looked at the photos Carlos set on the keyboard right in front of her. She looked back and forth between all of you as Carlos rambled on.
“But don’t worry.” He said as he spun in a circle. “This room is clean, I’m not getting any ghost vibes.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. Carlos was exactly what you always pictured a little brother would be like. You had always wanted a sibling, but the closest you ever got was Reggie.
“If they come back, I’ll protect you.” Carlos puffed out his chest a little. “Because I’m the man of the house.”
Julie raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t dad supposed to be the man of the house?”
“There can be two.” He said as he pulled a salt shaker out of his pocket. “According to the internet, salt burns out their souls.”
Your eyes all got wide and you backed up until you were almost against the wall. Reggie and Luke both yelped and jumped up as Carlos spun in another circle. Alex screamed as salt went right through his torso, but he straightened a second later with a sheepish smile.
“I’m okay.”
“You’re such a drama queen.” You snort as Alex flipped you off. Julie nodded at Flynn to distract Carlos and she led him out through the doors and back up to the house.
Once they had left, you turned to Julie with an excited smile. "Wait, before we start, I wanted to show you some old Sunset Curve songs."
"Ooh, okay!”
Luke opened his songbook and a page quickly fell out. You instantly recognized the cramped but neat handwriting and laughed at Reggie. "'Home Is Where My Horse Is'? Again, Reg?"
Reggie beamed. "It's a gift."
"Thanks, Buddy." Luke patted his shoulder before opening his songbook to a page in the middle and laying it across the piano for Julie to see. 'I think you’d kill this one."
Julie’s eyes scanned the page for a moment before flipping through the book. "Who's Emily?"
The color drained out of Luke's face as he scrambled for the journal. But Julie kept it just out of his reach. "And this another one, 'She Is Love’? Who knew you were such a romantic?"
You shared confused looks with Alex and Reggie. Of course, you all knew about ‘Unsaid Emily’. Luke always eagerly shared every part of his music with the band, even if it was just a few scribbled lines or a riff he thought of off the top of his head.
But it was clear from the guy’s faces that none of you had ever heard this song. Luke writing a love song was weird in itself, but him not telling anyone about it was even weirder.
"It's just something I tried." Luke said, a faint blush on his cheeks. "But you should flip to the next one. It's got a killer beat."
He played one of the first songs you had ever written for Sunset Curve 'Last Place' and Julie nodded along with a confused look. "So you wanna use a sample?"
"What do you mean?" You asked.
"Sample someone else's music." She explained. "I've heard that riff a million times. It's a classic Trevor Wilson song."
"Who?"
With a couple of clicks on her computer, Julie pulled up a picture of a middle aged guy leaning up against a guitar and your head started spinning.
"Guys, is that...?" You trailed off, hoping that you were wrong.
"It's Bobby." Luke finished.
"Seriously? I just told you his name is Trevor." Julie said.
Alex ran his hands through his hair, a slight scowl settling on his face. "Okay well then he changed it. That's definitely Bobby, he was our rhythm guitarist."
"He looks so old." You said, resisting the urge to reach out and poke the screen.
"He looks like a substitute teacher." Alex added, producing a slight chuckle from Reggie.
"Julie, what were his other songs?" You asked. You had a feeling the bad news was only beginning.
"'Get Lost'." She said and your heart sank even further.
"I wrote that." Luke said as he tugged his strap over his head. You could tell he was getting angry beneath his calm exterior, and the same feelings were rising up inside you as Julie went on.
"’Long Weekend'?' She continued.
"That one too." Reggie said. "It took (Y/n) and Luke like a month to finish."
"This is freaking me out!" Julie rubbed her temples. "This whole time I thought you were connected to my mom. But you're actually connected to Carrie's dad?"
"Add it to our list of questions." Alex sighed, his leg bouncing as he sat in front of his drum set.
“We used to talk about music all the time.” Julie said sadly. “He never mentioned you guys.”
"Of course not." You scoffed and Luke walked across the room and threw a dart at the board with enough force to put a hole in the wall. “He takes all the credit and doesn’t even mention us.”
“And he’s rich.” Julie flipped her computer screen around to show a photo of a huge mansion. “He has his own helicopter.”
Luke abandons the darts and makes his way over to the screen as Alex jumps up. “Man, we live in a garage!”
“It’s not about the money.” Luke huffed. “It’s about the music!”
Reggie whined. “It’s a little bit about the money.”
“A little about the money.” Alex emphasized.
“He could have at least shared it with our families.” You said, thinking about your mom and how she used to work extra shifts to take care of the both of you.
Reggie nodded in agreement. “Then maybe my parent’s house wouldn’t have gotten turned into a bike shack.”
Luke took a deep breath. ”What he did was steal our legacy.”
There was a moment of tense silence before he spoke up again.
“Where does he live?”
Julie hesitated. It was clear that all of you were angry, but Luke was on another level. His music was everything to him and being betrayed by Bobby was clearly getting under his skin. You gave her a pleading look and she sighed.
“Above the beach in Malibu.”
Luke glanced at the three of you, asking a silent question. You all nodded and Luke threw on his jacket, a look of determination on his face. “Let’s go teach him a lesson.”
Julie got up from the bench and tried to protest, but you all phased away.
-
As you walked into the front door of the mansion, a million memories raced through your head.
Of days when the five of you would go down to the pier or the park and play for hours, or take a drive around the city in Bobby’s car and talk about being famous one day. You used to joke about someone breaking off and starting a solo career, never actually thinking it would happen.
But clearly Bobby took it a little too seriously.
You and Alex walked to one side of the house while Luke and Reggie searched the other side. Every wall you could see was covered in awards and photos of his performances along with a giant portrait of his face right above the living room. From a little further down the hall, Alex shouted your name and you walked over to see him pointing at a display of shiny silver records.
“Have you seen these records? They’re Platinum.” He said.
“Platinum?” You repeated in disbelief. You ran your hands along the frame and were shocked that you could actually touch it. Across the room, Luke grumbled.
“He recorded ‘My Name Is Luke’.” He said. “My name is Luke!”
Suddenly, you heard the front door open and Bobby walked in.
“There he is!” Reggie called and you all turned to face him as he walked up the stairs. You snorted at his outfit choice and Reggie scoffed, clearly thinking the same thing. “He wears sunglasses indoors.”
Luke and Reggie started bouncing up the stairs after him but you and Alex hung back.
“Wait!” Alex called. “You know, It’s my first time haunting someone. I want it to be special.”
You stifled a laugh as Luke and Reggie exchanged confused looks before continuing up the stairs.
“I made that weird, didn’t I?” Alex cringed and you patted his shoulder.
“Definitely.” You laughed as you nudged him forward. “Come on.”
You reached the top of the stairs just as Reggie and Luke phased through a door at the end of the hall. Alex was quick to follow but you found yourself stopped in front of what you assumed was Bobby’s office.
It was a huge room with expensive guitars and fancy furniture. It looked like every other room in the house, but for some reason, you felt like you needed to look in there.
Alex noticed your hesitation and frowned. “You coming?”
“I think I’m gonna look around a little more.” You said.
“You sure?” He raised an eyebrow and you nodded.
Once he was gone, you walked into the room and spun around, taking in the sight of even more awards lining the walls. Your blood boiled thinking about all the hours you had spent writing them only for Bobby to take the credit.
You crossed to the desk to find the bottom drawer cracked open. You tried not to open it, but your curiosity won out. It slid open and you saw that it was completely empty except for an old shoebox that was pushed all the way to the back.
The lid was covered with a thin layer of dust like it hadn’t been opened for ages. It took a minute of pulling, but you finally got the lid off and peered inside.
The first thing you saw was a guitar strap. It was black with white skulls and flowers lining the sides. You recognized it instantly as the one Alex got Bobby for his 17th birthday.
The second was a picture of Sunset Curve playing at the winter formal freshman year. You cringed while looking back at your questionable fashion choices, but the memory still brought a smile to your face.
Finally, there were a few picks spread out across the bottom of the box, and a faded napkin from the diner.
A wave of confusion and regret washed over you.
So Bobby hadn’t forgotten about all of you.
Maybe he was a music-stealing weasel that you wished you could deck in the nose. But why would he keep all of this stuff if he still didn’t care deep down? If that seemingly always grumpy but secretly dorky boy you had known wasn’t still in there somewhere?
Suddenly, you heard screaming down the hall and you quickly closed the drawer before following the noise. It led to the bathroom door, where Luke and Reggie leaned up against the wall as Alex held the door shut. Then he backed up and the door swung open.
Bobby stumbled out with a terrified look on his face, running down the stairs while he mumbled to himself. The boys laughed and high-fived, grinning at you before phasing out again. You groaned and started walking downstairs where Flynn was sitting on the couch rambling to Carrie as Julie snuck into the backyard.
You followed Julie cautiously, knowing that she would probably be mad at you for leaving earlier. When you walked through the screen door and heard her start to lecture the boys, you knew you were right.
“So, did you guys have fun?” She asked, crossing her arms.
“You would do the same if he stole your music.” Luke said defensively.
“But you guys have new music with me.” Julie added. “And the best way to get back at him is for this band to do great. First we have to play dances, then clubs.”
“Then tours. I know.” Luke said and Julie sighed.
“I’ll see you guys at the school. We go on at 9:00.” She frowned. “Please don’t be late.”
“We’ll be there.” Alex said reassuringly. “Don’t worry.”
Julie turned and walked back through the screen door, giving you a tight-lipped smile as she passed.
“I don’t care what Julie says. I’m glad we scared Bobby.” Reggie said as he glared up at the mansion.
“I mean, maybe it was a little harsh.” You said and all of them stared at you in disbelief.
“Harsh?” Luke sputtered, like he couldn’t believe that just came out of your mouth.
“I found some stuff upstairs.” You tried to explain.
“What kind of stuff?” Reggie asked.
“The picture of us playing back in freshman year, some of our old picks, his old guitar strap.” You said, but the boys didn’t look convinced. “Guys, Bobby was our friend. We shouldn’t forget that.”
Alex and Reggie looked a little conflicted, but Luke didn’t budge. “How are you so cool with this?”
“I’m not!” You sighed, talking a little louder than you meant to. “God, of course I’m not okay with it, Luke. I put just as much of myself in those songs as you did. But I think we’ve done enough. Besides, it's not like we can even confront him anyway.”
“Maybe we can.” Alex said and you all turned to look at him. “I mean, Willie knows a lot about ghost stuff. Maybe he knows a way we could talk to him.”
“Let’s go find out.” Luke smiled mischievously.
You frowned but nodded. “You guys go. I’ll meet you at the dance.”
“(Y/n)-” Luke started but you had already disappeared in a flash of bright white.
-
If there was anything you didn’t miss about being alive, it was school dances.
You were always wrapped up in work or band stuff to be able to go, let alone ask anyone to be your date. Playing at the freshman winter formal was the first and only time you had ever set foot in a dance until tonight.
Your eyes scanned the gym in awe as you followed Julie through the dancing crowd. There were bright lights and balloons everywhere. There were a few kids dancing but it wasn’t very crowded, but it was still early and you hoped more people would be there to see you perform.
Once you and Julie reached the stage, Flynn grinned from behind her DJ booth and gestured to the backstage area. Julie fiddled with the bottom of her shirt nervously as you both walked behind the curtain.
Flynn gave Julie a hug and you laughed as she flipped her hair over her shoulder. “Are they here?”
“(Y/n) is.” Julie explained and Flynn waved in your general direction in response. “The boys will be here later. At least I hope.”
“I’m sure they will be.” You tried to reassure her. “They know how important this is.”
Flynn nudged Julie’s shoulder with a grin. “Well, let’s get your stuff set up then.”
-
By the time 11:00 rolled around, you were ready to track the boys down and kill them again.
The dance floor was twice as crowded as it was when you got there, and everyone was impatiently waiting for the main performance. You knew that wherever the boys were, they must’ve just lost track of time and didn’t know they were late. But that didn’t stop you from being angry. Especially when you saw the look on Julie’s face.
“Hey,” You sat on the floor next to her while she stared sadly at the projector. “I’m sorry they’re not here.”
Julie just shrugged. “I was really looking forward to playing tonight.”
Your eyes drifted to the crowd, then to the projector, then to Flynn and you got an idea. “Maybe we still can.”
She furrowed her eyebrows but there was a spark of curiosity in her eyes. “What do you mean?”
“We can perform the songs. Just the two of us.” You started. “Flynn can play some backing tracks and we can still rock this place!”
Julie looked nervous and a little hesitant but she called for Flynn and the girl raced over immediately. She explained the plan quickly and Flynn grinned in approval and assured you that she would take care of the backup music.
A pit of butterflies opened in your stomach. You hadn’t performed without the boys for years, but with Julie to lean on, you were fairly confident that you could get through it without throwing up.
You went on with Julie as planned, pushing thoughts about what the boys must be doing off to the side so you could focus on the performance at hand. It wasn’t quite the same, but it didn’t seem like the audience could tell. You belted your hearts out as they danced along, and both yours and Julie’s nerves disappeared as you got lost in the music.
It ended with a thunderous round of applause and you and Julie taking a bow at center stage. You took your cue to phase away and there was another wave of cheering as Julie waved and joined you in the backstage area.
-
As the crowd of students began making their way home and the stage was being torn down, you sat on the gym floor beneath a colorful balloon arch with Julie. Flynn had made her way to the cafeteria, taking advantage of the fact that there were no adults to stop her.
You watched the last few students leave, including the blonde boy you’d noticed staring at Julie all night. You turned to her with a playful smile.
"So? When were you going to tell me about the cute boy who obviously likes you?" You teased and Julie sighed.
"Nick is Carrie's boyfriend." She said as her eyes drifted across the empty room and you smiled sympathetically. She elbowed the air next to your ribs, "When were you going to tell me about Luke?"
"What about Luke?" You asked, trying not to blush.
"Don't play dumb, (Y/n)." Julie smirked. "It's obvious."
You groaned, falling onto your back against the floor and Julie laughed. "How obvious?"
"(Y/n), you wear his jacket like everyday, and that song in his journal was one hundred percent about you." Julie laid down beside you.
You snapped your head sideways and Julie laughed again at your shocked expression. "What?"
"Come on." She said. "Who else could that be about?"
You thought back to earlier, when Luke looked like a deer in headlights as Julie read the title out loud.. But you knew there was no way that it was about you. I mean, Luke never exactly had a shortage of girls that wanted his attention.
Just as you were about to point this out to Julie, there was a series of bright lights and Alex, Luke and Reggie appeared in front of you. You and Julie stood up, wearing identical glares, the anger you both felt earlier returning in full force. But before you could say a word, Luke launched into an apology.
“We are so sorry that we bailed on you guys.”
“The night just got away from us.” Alex added, looking everywhere but your face.
“It was about Carrie’s dad, wasn’t it?” Julie asked and when none of the boys answered, she scoffed. “You know what? Save it. Bands don’t do this to each other, friends don’t do this to each other. This whole thing was a mistake.”
“You mean the dance, right?” Luke asked hopefully and Julie shook her head.
“I meant joining a band with you guys.” She said, trying to keep a straight face. You could tell she was holding back tears as she ran out of the gym.
Once she was gone, you took a deep breath and faced them.
Alex immediately stepped forward, guilt etched on his face.”(Y/n), We’re so sorry.”
“I’m not the one you should worry about apologizing to.” You said, looking towards the doors where Julie left just a second ago. Alex followed your eyes and sighed, grabbing onto Reggie’s shoulder and steering him towards the door.
There was a moment of heaviness as you took another deep breath. You realized with a start that this was the first time you and Luke had been alone in months. Talking used to come so easily between the two of you, but now you found yourself struggling to find your words.
“We really are sorry, (Y/n).” Luke said quietly. “We didn’t mean to hurt Julie. Or you.”
You scoffed, kicking your foot against the linoleum of the gym floor, “But you did, and for what? A chance for revenge?”
“No! Well, yeah. But there was something else that happened. You won’t believe-”
“What could’ve been more important than being here?” You asked, cutting him off. You forced yourself to look up and found him looking back at you intently.
“If you just let me explain, I promise I would never purposely leave you hanging.”
“But you have been leaving me hanging, Luke!” You fired back, your voice nearly echoing in the empty room. The second the words left your mouth, you felt nauseous. After months of keeping those words on the tip of your tongue, you had expected saying them to feel better.
Luke winced at your words, but kept your gaze, “Hey, I know I’ve been..” He paused, knitting his eyebrows together, “distracted”.
“That’s one word for it.” You said and Luke took a cautious step closer.
“It’s just that everything has changed so much.” He said, and for the first time tonight, he looked away, “Even before we died.”
You opened your mouth to say something, but he cut you off, seemingly unable to stop rambling.
“It’s like there’s so many things I’ve been trying to say, but I can’t make the words come out. And it all gets so tangled up in my head and I just end up saying nothing.”
You could see him getting more frustrated as he continued on. “I’m sorry for everything. For being late, for being such a shitty friend and being so far away lately. I just-”
He took another step forward, eyes never leaving your face. “I’m just afraid of losing everything.”
There was an edge to his voice, like it was hard for him to get the words out. As he inched a little closer, you reached out your hand, fingers inches away from his when suddenly he jumped back. A purple shock flashing in the middle of his chest.
Luke fell to the ground, groaning as he clutched his side. You crouched next to him and his eyes fluttered open slowly. “Ow.”
“What the hell was that?” You asked and Luke sat up.
“I don’t know.” He said, rolling his shoulders, “That’s never happened to me before.”
Suddenly, Alex and Reggie phased back into the gym, both of them looking just as shocked.
“Guys, something so weird just happened.” Reggie exclaimed. Alex took in the sight of you and Luke sitting so close to each other and cleared his throat.
“Should we come back later?”
You glared at him. “Let me guess, you guys also got shocked with creepy purple magic?”
“How’d you know?” Reggie asked, wide-eyed.
Alex sighed at him before he turned back to you. “We definitely need to figure out what the hell just happened.”
“Yeah, let’s go home.” You said and Luke cleared his throat, staring at Alex and Reggie.
“Uh, you guys go. We’ll be there in a minute.”
Alex gave you a questioning look and you nodded, and with another flash, they phased out.
It was quiet for a minute as you both processed everything that just happened. You and Luke hadn’t had a fight like that since you were kids, and that was the most he had said to you in over half a year. Your head was spinning with all the change.
Luke rubbed the back of his neck and you could almost feel how nervous he was. “So..”
“So…” You repeated.
Luke turned a little more towards you and quickly wrapped his pinky around yours. He gave it a gentle squeeze as he smiled.
“Truce?” Luke asked.
You nodded, smiling as you squeezed back. “Truce.”

Hollywood, 1996
A hot cup of your morning brew cradled in your hand you stared out the window to the garage where Sunset Curve had practiced for years. A year had passed since The Orpheum; the band got signed to a label with an EP being dropped. The moment money came to the band Luke, Alex and Reggie had pooled money to buy the house the garage belonged to. You just happened to be over a lot still being seventeen.
“Hey,” Luke spoke, wrapping his arms around your waist, pressing his body tight against yours. His chin resting on your shoulder as his hand swiped the mug to take a swig from it.
“Hey!”
“Don’t sound so offended.” Luke chuckled, “I’ve tasted other things that belong to you.”
“Disgusting.” Alex gagged walking by the couple with distaste written clearly all over his face. He adored you two together, but he didn’t like the activities that you frequently did behind closed doors.
“Yeah, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t play wrestle in the middle of the night.” Reggie scoffed heading up the stairs to his room while Alex blinked after him.
“I- and he wonders why he’s still single.” Alex sighed, heading to the living room to watch a film whereas Bobby was grabbing a quick drink before leaving. The only member of the band that didn’t live in the house but then again, he didn’t have issues with his parents; well if he did, he never told anyone else.
A snicker fell from your lips as a deep chuckled vibrated through the body courtesy of Luke’s close quarters with you. His arms tightened when you shifted in his arms, glancing at his watch before you pushed the mug back into his hand.
“Gotta go.” You sighed, pressing a kiss to Luke’s cheek and freeing yourself from his warm embrace to nab the bag from the chair. Luke released a whine detesting the emptiness in his arms, “As much as I would have to stay and cuddle all day, I have plans.”
Luke released a long sigh with a nod glancing as Bobby’s gaze fixated your form heading for the front door. He snapped out of it when Luke hit his chest.
“C’mon man! That’s my girl.” Luke scoffed, making his way for the stairs, “Go, home, dude.”
Bobby did as he was told glancing up at the ceiling where each boy would be in their bedrooms until practice later that night. Bobby couldn’t help that he found you attractive, but he would never step over the line with his bandmate. You were already gone when Bobby got outside and the harsh glare on the back of his head from Luke.
Lance had picked up his daughter itching to play you the bones of the new song he had recorded with the band. It was by far his favourite one given that it was centered on you growing up which he both hated and loved. He had missed more of your life than he cared to admit so it is the last year before you would leave the house, he had taken a break from touring.
“It’s not fully finished. The working title is Bittersweet.” Your father spoke glancing over, “It’s slower than our usual song, but I have ideas.”
“What was the inspiration?” You questioned leaning your head back to glance over at him. A small smile tugged at the rock star in the driver’s seat.
“Almost twenty-years ago a struggling musician snuck into a concert he couldn’t afford. A struck of luck had a pretty ballet dancer attending too. It was an odd love story, and that musician had a double miracle. Eighteen years ago, he met the second love of his life.” Lance had a way with words that entranced anyone, whether it be musically or not.
“That musician was you.” You took a guess that ended up being right when Lance nodded, “Dad.”
“I was hoping you would harmonize on it with me? My sound guy is incorporating your voice as a baby, and in the ending, I want you to say something.”
A bright smile turned the corners of your mouth up while silent tears rolled down your cheeks at the idea he had. At that moment, you also decided to keep the collaboration and song a secret from your boyfriend and friends.
“I’d love to.” You spoke swiftly hugging his arm before he was shoving you back to your seat and his arm slung in front of you.
A blindly light made its presence known for a second before a loud crack shattered around you and your body was slammed the dash—a scream coming from your father before everything went quiet. You prone form slumped onto the crushed door unaware of the cries taking place outside the car.
Lance moaned fluttering his eyelids as consciousness brought him into the world again. His brain struggling to make sense of why the car was on its side. It connected when his first thought was his daughter.
“Sweetheart.” Lance’s tongue caught the copper taste in his mouth, but it was the petrifying taste fear that lingered as he received no response.
Straining his neck, he could see now you were laying against the crushed passenger door of the car; the car on its side with Lance strapped to the seat. A sharp cry released as he caught the blood coating the profile of his little girl. A haunting sound of Bittersweet filled the car among Lance’s sobs.
In the home of Sunset Curve, it was notoriously known that the only channel on TV was MTV, never the news. As usual, the guys were fighting over what kind of pizzas, they should order unaware of the countless news reports on a car crash. It wouldn’t be under hours later that they found out.
“Guys!” Alex’s head snapped up as Bobby struggled to breathe in the entrance of the kitchen, leaving the front door wide open.
“Mushrooms Bobby?” Reggie inquired oblivious to the tension radiating off the rhythm guitarist. Bobby had enough sweat it was like they had just finished a fifteen song setlist under boiling lights.
“Have you guys seen MTV?” Bobby demanded gaining the attention of his three bandmates as looking lost at the uncharacteristic anxious boy.
“Is our song playing?” Luke spoke, leaning over the island with a grin. His messy hair almost covering his hazel eyes.
Bobby didn’t reply other than to rush over to the tv to get to MTV. Instead of music blasting the house, a somber person was sitting on a chair.
“The musical world is struggling as the world waits for news on musician Lancaster Jameson following a car accident early this afternoon. Little news has been released on the circumstances leading to the crash on the occupants with both vehicles.” The man spoke sitting on a stool behind a makeshift desk.
Luke’s heart dropped at the words that rocked him to the core. His body working on autopilot was already moving to the door, he needed to be there for you. You must be terrified for your father. Luke had to be there for you. He just didn’t know you were in the car as well.
“An emergency response official revealed, however, that as they used the jaws of life, a song was still playing. A song very unlike anything Lancaster’s band has released before.”
A taxi, courtesy of Alex, pulled up beside the lead singer with his friend helping him into the backseat before joining him as well. Little did they know about the scene at the hospital.
Your mother, Nancy, sat silently ripping apart a Kleenex a nurse had graciously given the woman as she waited with bated breath. Her pallor pale and gaunt under the harsh hospital lights where she waited to hear the news for her family. Her tears began to fall as Luke, and his bandmate appeared in the ER.
“Mrs. Y/L/N.” Alex spoke, heading straight for the woman pushing the fears and anxious feelings to be dealt with at another time.
The woman couldn’t look Luke in the eye, knowing that the media had been issued legal documents to ensure you were kept out of the news. The lawyers had swiftly jumped on that part of the accident while your mother worried herself with the what-ifs swirling in her head.
“Luke.” She breathed, leaning to pull the teenager into a hug, “I’m sorry I couldn’t call.”
“I understand. You need to focus on Lance.” Luke supplied, stepping back to look around the room for you. His brows furrowed at the lack of evidence you were there, “Where’s Y/N?”
Nancy’s eyes watered further at the mention of her daughter still in surgery looking over to Alex, who collapsed into the chair understanding the look. Luke didn’t see it.
“I suppose the lawyers did an excellent job.” Nancy sighed, digging deep inside herself to lead the teenage boy to the chairs be had settled into, “I’m very sorry, Luke. Our lawyers reacted to the accident, but Lance’s name was already released. He wasn’t alone.”
“Y/N-“
“She’s in surgery right now.” Nancy’s voice broke slumping into the chair, returning to shredding the Kleenex in her hand. Alex was stock still in his chair, “I’ve been told she was lucky. There hasn’t been news on Lance yet.”
“Oh my god.” Luke breathed, staring at the scuffed shoes he had had for years by now with a little doodle you had done one night. The world faded as Luke went over a single moment, he had shared with you, and something burned; something he had carried for months now felt heavier than ever before.
Hours went by for Luke, Alex and your mother slowly the ER waiting room grew to have Reggie for support. He was the most serious he had been in his entire life; he had contacted the Patterson family but pleaded they wait for news at home. Reggie knew Luke wouldn’t be able to deal with his unresolved issues with his parents and the grief.
“Mrs. Y/L/N.” A doctor wearing scrubs called outgaining the attention of Nancy who rushed up to the older doctor, “Please follow me.”
Nancy wavered in her steps as the doctor brought the middle-aged woman to a quiet room where the sound of a heart monitor beeped. Nancy was quick to rush over to the body, resting still out from the medication.
“Y/N.” Your mother breathed collapsing into a chair where she grasped your hand tightly. Her eyes took in the superficial cuts on your face and the brace on your wrist.
“She’s miraculously lucky for the severe car accident, she has a minor concussion along with a broken wrist. We had to remove her appendix or spleen, but she’ll be fine. The seat belt, however, snapped upon impact.” The doctor spoke facing the sobbing woman with pity in his eyes, “By the bruise across her chest we can see that your husband protected her, the media calls with ‘being soccer mom’d’ or my daughter does. Had he not done that the injuries would have been too severe to survive or she would have been in a vegetative state for the rest of her life.”
“Lance. Is he okay?”
“We need to talk about that. If you could follow me, we’ll let your daughter rest.”
Sunset Curve came to an early hiatus in their music career as Luke refused to leave your room from the moment he was allowed. When visitor hours were up, you could find him in his car struggling from sneaking into your room, but the warning of charges from the guard kept him in his place. For the first time in his life, Luke had no urge to put pen to paper or strum a single tune on his guitar.
He would stay silent in the chair beside your bed, holding tight to your hand in despair and guilt. He would, of course, visit Lance when your mother came to see you, they traded off not wanting either one to be alone.
A moan from the bed brought the attention of Luke and Alex, who had visited today to convince his best friend to come home for a shower.
“Baby?” Luke lunged closer as your eye fluttered open scanning the room with bleary eyes and sadness, “Hey.”
“Why are you holding my hand?” You questioned glancing at the hand intertwined with yours. Luke’s face dropped stumbling back at the look you cast him.
“You don’t-“
“I woke up from an accident, and you can’t hug me?” You finished staring at the boy down, unaware the delivery of the question could very well be better than it was. Luke heaved a sigh gently, pulling you into a hug.
“That was cruel. I thought you didn’t remember me.”
“Luke forgetting you is like forgetting what the moon is.” You spoke wincing as you leaned back, “What’s the damage?”
Luke’s eyes glared at the nonchalant behaviour you displayed. At the same time, he was an utter mess from a week of sleeplessness and crippling fear. Alex’s deep sigh as he pushed down on Luke’s shoulders to place him back in the chair.
“The damage is you’ve been unconscious for a week with a minor concussion, a broken wrist, a bruised knee that was recently diagnosed, you are one spleen less, and you won’t have to worry about getting appendicitis. You will be incredibly sore from the bruises as well.” Alex supplied leaning to gently hug your form for even if you were dating his ex you had quickly grown to be a surrogate little sister.
“Oh.” You blinked, turning to stare at the wall, “What about my Dad?”
“He’s fine. He’s been struggling with orderlies every day to escape to check on you.” Luke spoke, “Your mom and I have had to do shifts between rooms during visitation hours. Security wasn’t happy to find me in here after hours.”
“Good.” You nodded leaning back in the bed staring up at the ceiling muttering a reply when Alex murmured, he would head to tell your parents you were awake.
Luke once had romantic plans before the accident, but when he found out about your accident, everything hit him. What-ifs of never living his dreams with you, of the things he might never get to do.
“Your hand better heal fast so that brace can come off.” Luke spoke, keeping his gaze on your face entirely in love with you. Your look of confusion amusing him, “Well how will the ring fit?”
“Ring?” You questioned becoming owl-eyed when Luke pulled out a stunning ring from his pocket, “Oh my god.”
“You tend to change my plans with everything you do. I was going to have this big speech and a romantic dinner, but I can’t wait.” Luke spoke, leaning to wipe away a tear from your eye, “I never want to be that scared again so until I can blow your socks off with a better proposal will you marry me?”
Your hand cupped the smooth cheek of the boy you loved more than words could ever say, “No.”
Luke’s heart broke at the words he never anticipated to hear, “What?”
“I say this because I love you, but I don’t want to go into an engagement with bad blood between you and your parents. You’ve shown them that your dream was worth it, but now you have to reach out. I want only happiness when we get engaged.”
Luke nodded his head, putting the ring back in his pocket, disappointed in the response, but what could he do? You gave a reason, and while definitely annoyed him he couldn’t fault your compassionate nature. For once in your entire relationship, the silence was awkward.
“So…” You trailed off, avoiding looking at Luke, “Have you decided on a tracklist for the album?”
“Huh? Oh, no.” Luke shook his head only to be relieved when your parents came into the room. Nancy was already crying as she collapsed into the chair.
“Oh baby.” Nancy spoke, pressing a kiss to the bruised forehead you currently rocked. Lance scowled as he was rolled closer to the bed by the orderly.
“I’m fine.” You grumbled as your mom scanned every part of you, “Seriously!”
“I almost lost my baby.” Your mom snapped before apologizing at raising her tone, “Let me coddle you.”
You resigned yourself, but there was a sadness inside as Luke shared a goodbye before leaving you alone with your parents. You really wished you hadn’t been wrong in your decision.

When They’re Jealous//iKon
(A/N: the wording is a bit sloppy because I wrote this at work lmao)
Jinhwan
Jealousy level: 2/10
Jinhwan feels secure with both himself and your relationship, so he wouldn’t get too jealous. But he has his moments.
He’d begin to act coldly towards everyone if he starts to feel as if someone is getting between you two, trying to remain nonchalant while simultaneously hoping you hear his silent prays that you do something to remind both him and the potential homewrecker that you’re spoken for.
He can get a bit pouty even when things die down and it’s made clear you’re happily taken, still upset you weren’t all over him the way he wanted, but that’s another issue for another time.
Yunhyeong
Jealousy level: 0/10
Like Jinhwan, he’s secure with himself and your relationship, but he also trust that you can put an end to any flirting or advances made towards you.
But Yunhyeong is no idiot.
He would tell you with a bright smile to go out with them for dinner or to the movies, to enjoy your time with them as if the situation didn’t faze him, but he knew it’d bother you. You’d feel like he was pushing you away, probably upset you were talking about and hanging out with another man that wasn’t him, maybe even upset you haven’t given him the same attention recently.
And, like clockwork, you’ll cancel all your plans to spend your time with Yunhyeong, his demeanor still nonchalant and unbothered while you tried to prove to him you were 100% committed to your relationship. It wasn’t his plan per say, it was clearly your idea to stay with him, he just gave you a bit of a push to come to that decision.
Jiwon
Jealousy level: 2/10
Another member that has no doubt that your relationship is perfect and indestructible. He doesn’t mind people flirting with you or even offering to take you out, a running joke between you two that someone might take you away from him one day. But the thing Bobby didn’t find funny? When guys were a bit too bold with their affection towards you.
You weren’t one to tell people off, especially strangers, leading to some people taking your silent bashfulness as compliance. The way guys would wrap their arms around your shoulders and pull you close drove Bobby crazy but, the way you awkwardly smiled and grimaced at the closeness between you and said stranger, killed any jealousy he felt.
He’d go into a protective stance, being your voice against unwanted predators. He was fine with seeming like the jealous boyfriend, as long as you were safe and comfortable.
Hanbin
Jealousy level: 8/10
Hanbin is a great boyfriend, but his jealousy can make you question your relationship at times.
He could go from silently glaring at the man stealing your attention to wrapping himself around you like a snake, taking PDA to an all-time high to ensure they got the hint but, if they didn’t catch on or if you brushed him off to focus on the stranger, he’d get angry.
He’s a sweet guy, but if he’s angry enough he’ll verbally tell them off, gritting his teeth and giving a stern warning to leave and never come near you again. He’d try to scold you as well, wanting to chastise you for allowing their flirting to go on for so long, but just looking in your slightly angry eyes made him calm down. His mood would switch back to the loving boyfriend you always knew, his PDA still at its highest as he profusely apologized to you, but he knew he had to go through hell and back to gain your forgiveness like always.
Donghyuk
Jealousy level: 1/10
Donghyuk only feels jealous when he’s not your main focus, especially when it’s another guy occupying your time.
He’d become pouty and verbally needy, not ashamed to admit that he’s jealous. His jealousy won’t last long because you’d immediately talk it out, his playfulness keeping things lighthearted and his arms wrapped around you like you’re his greatest comfort.
He wouldn’t mind if you continued conversing with the stranger, especially if you found some way to include him. Possibly the easiest to deal with in terms of jealousy and relationship security.
Junhoe
Jealousy level: 10/10
He’s petty and he doesn’t care that he’s petty. Anyone looks at you? He glares at them. They smile at you? He scoffs. You smile or laugh back? He rolls his eyes. His jealousy knows no bounds.
You’d find it amusing if you weren’t also a target in his unhinged behavior. He’d ignore you and everyone nearby, arms crossed and lips in a permanent pout as he watched you ignore his upset demeanor, silently demanding you go over and comfort him. But, even if you do, he’ll keep up his bitter act, sarcastically asking why you weren’t talking with your other boyfriend.
He’d be the most difficult to make up with, his jealousy fueling your own anger until you found yourselves in a silent treatment match that’d last but so long once you both went to bed, his arm wrapping around you waist and holding you close, a simple “I’m still mad” leaving him as you drifted to sleep.
Chanwoo
Jealousy level: 5/10
Chanwoo would feel jealous but he wouldn’t know how to go about it. He’d be embarrassed if you knew he was jealous, but he also couldn’t stand seeing you laugh with and hug some guy he never met before. If you brought him along so they could meet, he’d space out, his mind going over everything you might have found perfect about the other guy and doubting if this was just step one of you replacing him and finding a new and better relationship.
He’d mentally detach from the situation before physically drifting away as well, eyes reluctantly glancing at you both to watch the potential demise of his relationship. Once you found yourself back at his side, you’d be able to tell right away he wasn’t himself and, after putting two and two together, determined he was just feeling insecure. He’d need a lot of reassurance, just a simple “I love you” not enough to remind him you weren’t going anywhere.
His jealousy would be more sadness than anger or possession, making it a strange and new experience as you won’t know how to handle it properly, but he’ll talk it out with you eventually and may need some space to realign himself and get back to normal.

Inner Demons (Jack Kline x Reader)
Warnings: Angst, violence, self-loathing, mentions of death, smidge of fluff, small spoilers for 13x23
Pairings: Jack Kline x Reader
Characters: Reader, Jack, Sam, Dean, Castiel, Mary, Bobby.
Word Count: 2k
AU: Soulmates
Summary: When Jack runs away after accidentally hurting you, you run after him.
Requested by: @ivyyie
You sat in the bunker, chatting happily with the survivors of apocalypse world. You loved meeting new people, and this was no exception.
You were 22, and had been hunting since you were little. Your parents had known Sam and Dean, two of the greatest hunters of all time. So when they passed away, the Winchester's swore to look after you. Although, you had said repeatedly that you didn't need their help. That was a lie, of course; you loved living with them. They were like the older brothers you never had.
Dean came up to you, a grim look on his face. "C'mon, kiddo. We need your help with something."
· · ·
You stood underneath Mary's umbrella as you looked at the dead body of Maggie. You felt your heart break at the sight. She had been an awfully sweet girl, and you knew that Jack had been close friends with her. You squeezed his hand gently, trying to give him a little bit of comfort.
"I - I-" Jack mumbled, shaking his head. I said I'd protect her, and, Sam. . ."
"Stop, Jack." Sam interjected. "This isn't your fault.'
"Sammy's right." You agreed gently. "There's no way you could have stopped this."
"What happened to her?" Dean questioned.
"I don't know." Mary said with furrowed eyebrows. "Doesn't look supernatural"
"Looks like some son of a bitch beat on her until. . ." Bobby broke off, not being able to finish his sentence. You looked away from Maggie, seeing her like this was too hard for you.
"Who would do something like this?" Castiel growled
On the way back to the bunker, Jack was silent. You could tell he was blaming himself for what happened to Maggie. He was so angry.
"Jack." You whispered. "You can't blame yourself. There's sick people out in the world that aim to hurt people. Not just monsters are capable of killing someone like that."
"I promised that I would protect her." Jack insisted. "I promised that I would protect all of them. That they wouldn't have to worry about Michael and his army. And they come back here just to be killed? How is that fair, Y/n?"
"I never said it was fair, Jack. Nothing's fair. Good people die all the time, and the worst ones stick around for the longest time. It's infuriating, but that's just how it is."
"But why? I don't understand. Bad people are supposed to be punished." Jack's voice shook in anger.
"I used to say that when I was younger. I would ask my mom why that would happen, and she would say, 'When you're picking a flower, do you pick the beautiful one, or the one that's wilted?' Of course I would say the beautiful one. And she would reply with, 'That's how God works. He picks to most beautiful ones for his garden.'"
"Your mother sounds like a good woman." Jack noted.
"Yeah, she was." You nodded. "We're going to find out who did this to Maggie and make sure she finds justice." You assured Jack.
You decided to help Sam, Dean, Castiel and Jack interview people who were close with Maggie.
"Word is, you're friends with Maggie." Dean inquired as he entered the library.
"Um, yeah, since we came over." The girl said. You didn't have a chance to speak with her prior to this, so you had no clue what her name was. "Me and her, we didn't have anybody else, so we kinda stuck together."
"So I'm sure you know she went out last night." Sam raised an eyebrow at the girl. She nodded. "Well, she didn't come home."
"Um. . . Is Maggie in trouble?"
You looked down at your hands, not sure how to tell her what happened. Although, Cas seemed to be prepared.
"She's dead." He spoke up, rather nonchalantly. You smacked your palm against your forehead. Castiel could be really insensitive at times.
"She. . . No, that's not. . ." The girl was obviously in shock. Her only friend was dead. "We were supposed to be safe here."
"We need to know where Maggie went," Sam pushed. "Who she was talking to."
The girl shook her head. "I don't. . . There was a boy."
"What boy?" Jack demanded, looking up.
"Nate." She informed him. "He works at that store out on Route 281. Maggie, she had a crush. That's why she snuck out last night. She was going to meet him."
"All right." Dean grumbled, running a hand over his face. "Well, let's go talk to this boy, Jack-"
You all turned to see that Jack was now gone. "Shit." You mumbled, grabbing your jacket and bolting out the door.
You knew how Jack could get when he was upset or when someone he cared about was hurt. It never ended well.
You, Cas, Sam and Dean hopped into the Impala, driving like mad to the store that Nate worked at.
You were worried, not only for Nate, but for Jack as well. If this kid didn't murder Maggie, and Jack hurt him, it would kill Jack. Hurting innocent people was one of Jack's worst fears.
You were the first one out of the car, bolting inside the store. To your horror, Jack was holding Nate against the wall by his throat.
"Jack!" You exclaimed, running up to him. "Jack! Stop!" You put a hand on his shoulder, trying to get him to leave Nate alone.
Jack whipped around, his eyes glowing orange. The next thing you knew, you were sent flying back into a shelf.
You gave out a grown, holding your injured arm. "Y/n!" Dean called, running up to you. "Are you okay?" You nodded, very visibly in pain.
Jack continued his assault on Nate, refusing to let up.
"Jack?" Sam pleaded. "Let him go!"
"Alright," Dean muttered, pulling his gun out of his waistband. "Jack!" Three loud shots rang out, making you flinch. You slowly got to your feet with the help of Cas. The Nephilim dropped Nate and turned around, and as he did so,
Jack had a look of surprise on his face as he gazed at the four of you. "You. . . Shot me?"
"To get your attention!" Dean yelled. "You're acting like a psychopath!"
"Jack," You said, limping to him.
"He killed Maggie!" He growled.
"Maggie? Maggie's dead?" Nate whimpered.
"Jack, Nate didn't do it. Look at him." You whispered. "He's destroyed. He would have never hurt Maggie. Not in a million years."
"Y-you're hurt." Jack noted, looking at you. "I did that. I made you bleed."
"Jack, it's okay, you didn't kn-"
"I'm so sorry." He cried, running out the door.
"Jack!" Castiel called out.
Dean put a hand on his chest, stopping him from following after Jack. "No, hey, just – let him go."
"Yeah," You huffed. "Fat chance." You pushed past Dean and ran after the Nephilim.
You looked around, not seeing him anywhere. "C'mon, Jack." You mumbled. "Where are you?" You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath. You knew you could find him, you just had to use the bond that you shared.
You figured out a long time ago that Jack Kline was your soulmate. You felt what he was feeling, whether it be sad, happy, angry or confused. And all you could feel right now was self loathing. If you could just get a feel of where he is right now, then you would be able to find him.
There were trees surrounding him, and it all seemed oddly familiar. You knew the forests of Kansas like the back of your hand. You would often go exploring around there whenever you were bored and Sam and Dean were off on a hunt. You recognized the large oak tree that sat in the middle of a clearing. You knew exactly where Jack was.
You ran as fast as your hurt ankle would let you. It was probably just sprained, but it was going to hurt a hell of a lot worse when all of this was over.
As you approached the clearing, you could hear Jack talking to himself. He kept hitting his chest, as a way of hurting himself. Your heart broke as he continued talking.
"You keep hurting people!" He yelled. "You keep. . ." His voice cracked as he cried. "Hurting. . . Why do you keep hurting people?!"
"Jack?" You said timidly.
Jack turned around, clearly horrified to see that you followed him. "Y/n! D-don't come any closer. I don't want to hurt you!"
"You're not going to hurt me, Jack." You held your hands out, trying to show that you wouldn't harm him.
"I already have!" He pointed out, seeing your limp, your bruising wrist and your cut cheek. "I did that to you. You're in pain because of me."
"Jack, I'm a hunter. I've felt things ten times worse than this. I'm not in pain. I know you didn't mean to hurt me, you were just startled is all."
"But I almost killed Nate!" He yelled. "He was innocent. He never murdered Maggie and I almost -" He broke off into sobs. You came closer to him, gently putting a hand on his shoulder. He refused to look up. "I'm a monster. I'm just like him."
"Jack Kline." You said sternly, drawing his attention up to your face. "You are not a monster. Do you hear me?" He stayed silent. "And you aren't like Lucifer either."
"You don't know that." He whispered.
"Yes, I do. I've met Lucifer, and I've met you. Jack, you are the most compassionate person I know. You feel everyone's pain and you feel emotion on a completely different scale than other people. You brought those people from Apocalypse World here and gave them another chance. Lucifer wouldn't have done that. But you cared enough to do that." You cupped Jack's face in your hands. "You are good, Jack. Something that Lucifer's not. He will never have your compassion, and he will never know what it feels like to love and be loved."
You felt Jack's tears hit your fingers. You gently brushed them away. "It's okay." You assured him.
"But it's not." He insisted quietly. "I've hurt people, Y/n. People are dead because of me. What I've done is unforgivable."
"Jack, we've all made mistakes. And yes, some are worse than others, but we've all been where you are. Me, Sam, Dean, Cas, we all know what it's like. We are here for you, because we are your family."
"You haven't made a mistake where someone's gotten killed though." Jack took a hold of your hands and lowered them to your sides.
You swallowed hard. You had to tell him. That was the only way to get through to him. "Jack, when I was younger, I made a mistake. A mistake that got two people killed." Jack looked at you in surprised. "I was on a hunt with them, and I was supposed to be a lookout. I had been awake for days because I had been having nightmares and refused to sleep. So while I was supposed to warn them if I saw anything, I fell asleep and they were both killed by vampires." He stayed silent as you continued to talk. "They were my parents. I'm the reason they're dead." You were now crying. "We make mistakes Jack, and some of them get people killed. It's a fact of life and it's what happens when you're a hunter. I've made peace with my inner demons, and I can help you do that too. Just let me help, Jack."
"I'm sorry." Jack whimpered as you both continued to cry. "I'm so sorry."
You shook your head as you brought him in for a hug. "It's okay. It's all gonna be okay, I promise." You buried your head in his chest, breathing in his scent. "I love you."
Jack shifted slightly, making you look up at him. "You. . . Love me?" He questioned.
"Yes. I love you, Jack." You repeated yourself. "I love you like Dean loves Cas. I love you like you like Sam loved Eileen. I love you, Jack Kline."
Jack gave you a weak smile as he looked down at you. He hesitantly pressed his lips to yours, obviously unsure if what he was doing was right. Your mouth moved against his, your tears mingling together.
"I love you, Y/n Y/l/n." He mumbled against your mouth.
The two of you stood there, holding each other, completely content.

MASTERLIST
"What are you smiling so widely about?" The teasing question came from Luke and was directed at Alex, who had come into the room blushing with a smile wide and bright enough to outshine the artificial lighting.
"Nothing," Alex dismissed, hopping down from the piano he'd manifested on top of. "Willie just answered a lot of questions and now I feel a lot better about what's going on." They'd just gotten done talking about Julie joining the band and how Alex had met a new ghost friend on his walk.
Reggie's eyebrows came together and he reached out, catching Alex's wrist with both of his hands to still the boy. "What's that?" In dark ink, almost like a tattoo, words were set into the base of Alex's wrist. "I didn't know you had a tattoo, and why does it say 'I think you dinged my board'?"
Alex ripped his arm away from Reggie, but the damage had already been done. As Alex looked over at Luke, he could see in the guitarists' eyes what was about to happen. "You found your soulmate?" Luke asked, a slightly bitter tone already in his voice. His nose was scrunched up a little. Not in hate or disgust per say, but edging toward those emotions. Like he was ready for Willie to be a total jerk or hurt Alex.
"Yeah," Alex slowly admitted. Reggie shot Alex an apologetic look but Alex just shook his head. Reggie hadn't done anything wrong. Normally it would even be a good thing, like when Julie had spent hours talking to him about Flynn and how happy she was that Flynn had been her soulmate. Luke wasn't Julie though. Before Luke could go off like he was getting ready to, Alex stood up to his full height, determination setting in his eyes. "And you know what? I'm glad I did. Willie is really great, and it's nothing like they used to say soulmates were. It isn't forced or weird or magically easy. I don't feel addicted to him. It wasn't even like we were flirting with each other or anything. It was really chill and nice, and he was funny and easy going and listened to what I had to say and understood my feelings and helped me. He's a good guy."
Luke was suddenly very interested in his guitar. "I'm happy for you." His tone didn't support his words.
It was hard, because Alex knew that any other time Luke WOULD have been incredibly happy for him. He'd have wanted to know every detail and have hyped him up and been excited and invested in the story like he always was. Luke would have been more than happy to tease and laugh and be so, so very happy for him just like he said. He'd have smiled and hugged Alex, because he knew how hard this had been for Alex. How he'd always thought he'd die without ever really falling in love and then he DID and now despite everything he has answers and a cute boy who's interested in him and a promising relationship waiting to bloom.
But Luke wasn't, and it was all due to the fact that Luke had a soulmate once and swore them off ever since. Sometimes... Sometimes Alex wished Luke had never met Y/n.
-
It had been a good performance, and Luke was tired. He wanted to go back to the studio and burn off the rest of his performance high with lots of snacks and a good movie, right beside his best friends, like they did after every performance. Before that though, they drank lots of water so they could drive home without passing out. It had happened once and Reggie had sprained arm. He'd sat out the next performance and they all made a rule to be more careful about self care so it wouldn't happen again. They would have just canceled the gig but Reggie would have killed them. They did learn however they hated not performing with everyone present, so here they were.
Because they were just performing at a little bar on a slow night, there weren't many people around. They also weren't a big enough band to perform at somewhere they could get a real bad stage, so they all just sat on the bar, sipping on water so they wouldn't hurt their stomachs. Luke had thrown up once and it was another lesson they'd taken to heart.
As the guys were refueling, a girl approached them. Her smile was wide and she took the open seat next to Luke. Alex had been sitting there but he'd gotten up to use the bathroom. "Hi," she greeted. Her cheek rested on her hand and her eyes sparkled.
Bobby was immediately returning a flirty, "Why hello." He'd always been more of a charmer than the others. Luke was a close second, but Bobby did it more often than he did because Luke didn't like what usually happened when you flirted with someone.
The girl ignored Bobby though, turning to the lead singer, who currently far too busy shoving his face full of food to pay attention to her. 'Hey, slow down or you'll get a stomach ache," Reggie reminded.
Luke nodded and then swallowed, breathing for a few seconds before going to take another, smaller bite. He paused when the girl cleared her throat. "Uh, hi," he said hesitantly, only now registering she'd been talking to him. For some reason.
Her smile grew when he greeted her. "You're Luke, right?" She leaned against the counter, draping herself in an odd way.
Despite how much he hated when people did this, he wasn't thick enough to not know when it was happening. He wiped his mouth, offering an awkward smile. "Uh yeah. What's your name?"
"You can call me anything you like," the girl responded evenly. Her bright hair moved fluidly as she twirled it around her finger. She was pretty, Luke could admit that. Her eyes were a bright blue, and her clothes were a nice silver, which went well with her deep tan.
Unfortunately for her, he wasn't interested. "I'd prefer to just call you your name if that's okay with you."
Her eyebrow arched in surprise. She seemed like the type of girl who dealt with people like Bobby or Reggie. People who were into her and didn't often say no when offered the chance. She was attractive, and probably popular. Luke just... didn't want what she did, and what she wanted was getting more clear by the second. Before she could make some comment that would probably make him feel even more awkward, he slipped off the stool and began to move away from his friends, using it as an excuse to dismiss the girl. She only followed after. "Oh come on," she drawled. "You're hot. I'm hot. We'll have lots of fun. I promise I'll be worth your time." She stepped in front of him, stopping his path and hooking her finger into his collar, pulling him closer to her.
Luke felt panic begin to rise. He'd never had someone come onto him this strong before. Usually they backed off pretty quickly after he made it clear he wasn't interested. What could he say to her to make her lose interest that would make sense without offending her? He didn't want to be mean but... he was the last person to sleep around, even after Alex who was gay in a world that hated people like him. A world that demanded him to keep it secret. HE was more sexually active than Luke was. To say, Luke wasn't. "Listen..." he began slowly, feeling his nervousness twist his gut. His friends had told him so many times that it was okay he didn't want to be with people like Reggie and Bobby did, the same way that Alex didn't want to be with girls like that. It was fine. Yet, every time he had to face it in a situation with someone who might not be so forgiving, he felt the weight of the world on his chest. Not all people were like Alex, Bobby, and Reggie.
"Darling, you're breathtaking." The low purr came from a new body. A hand touched Luke's arm with the most gentle pressure, just enough to nudge Luke backward so the new person could pay attention to the girl. All Luke saw was hair and broad shoulders, but he was distracted suddenly by a weird tingling where the person had touched him. A guy, he realized. "I can't believe there's anyone here that can't see how absolutely beautiful you are." The man rose a hand to brush the girl's cheek with a thumb. Her shining eyes turned to him, taking in his charm in gulps. The man's arm moved to go around her shoulders as he tucked her into his side, burying his nose in her hair to leave a little kiss on her forehead. "What do you say we ditch this poor soul who's so obviously blind and have some fun of our own?"
The girl blushed. "Oh definitely."
An odd feeling went through Luke when the guy made eye contact with him and winked. He turned away from the couple as they began to walk away, hurrying back to his seat. He sat down, trying to get the guy's face out of his head. He'd never been exactly blind to how attractive some people were, but usually it was easy to ignore or forget. This guy... his mind was packed with this guy. Everything about him that Luke had seen in those short moments before he'd left. How he'd smiled at Luke with a look that said he knew Luke had been trying to get out of the situation. Almost like a little 'you're welcome'. And if he was honest, he was thankful.
"Hey, what's that?" Reggie grabbed Luke's shoulder, stilling him so he could get a better look.
"What?" Luke looked over, but he could only see the tip of something inked on his shoulder. It was just out of view for him to see any better.
Bobby moved over then, a smirk growing on his face as his eyes widened. "That's a soulmate mark."
There was a tension between the three boys for a second. Everyone knew that soulmates were a huge taboo, but with all the things between them that were taboo, it was kind of thrilling too. Bobby shrugged off his jacket, offering it to Luke. "Probably a good idea," Luke agreed, putting the jacket on and covering the mark. Even if all of them were cool about it, other people might not be. He could get it tattooed over later or something.
-
Three full days and no one had stopped talking about Alex and Willie. Willie seemed really cool and Luke was easing up a bit, but when the conversation turned that way he found himself usually drawing away, focusing on cleaning his guitar or writing more lyrics. Today he was fiddling around with a melody quietly, a pencil in his mouth and his lyric journal on the floor next to him. He absently rose a hand to tug at the collar of his shirt. He'd never really gotten used to how high the collar went, or the feeling of fabric against his shoulders. He had always worn cut off sleeves, but had changed it after...
He felt suddenly ill.
"You know we still have some of your old shirts," Alex comments casually. "Most of them are cut off actually. You could wear one of those instead." He spoke with a soft voice, and Luke looked over to see Julie and Reggie going off about Flynn. Of course Alex wasn't one to call Luke out in front of anyone else, but he'd still had to check just in case.
Luke's eyes fell back to the song he was sort of writing. "No it's fine. The sleeves cover... my shoulder."
Alex didn't have to ask, but there was something in his expression. "You know you don't have to hide it here," the blonde reminded gently. "Julie and I have our marks too, and-"
"I know," Luke cut off. "I just... don't want her to ask about it." His eyes flickered to Julie before moving away again.
This time Alex nodded and let it drop. "What song are you working on?" Luke smiled, appreciating his friend more than ever. Luke didn't get to respond though because Reggie began to come over. He was holding Julie's glass of water, thrilled by the fact that he wasn't dropping it.... He tripped though, spilling the water all over Luke's shirt.
"Crap!" Reggie hissed, his eyes widening with guilt. "I'm so sorry, Luke."
Laughing it off, Luke rolled his eyes as he moved to his feet, putting his guitar down. "It's fine Reg." He pulled out another shirt, pushing down the way he wanted to glare at it as he pulled off the wet shirt to change into the new, dry one.
Julie's eyes went wide. "You have a tattoo?"
Luke suddenly froze. He tossed the wet shirt by his other stuff, forcing himself to move to cover his midrift again. "No, I don't."
Alex made an expression between pained and amused. "Guess there goes keeping Julie from asking," he mumbled quietly.
As if on que, Julie asked, "What is it?"
Now, Luke could have lied. But he hadn't, and he didn't want to. He hated lying, especially to bandmates. "It's a soulmate mark. It appeared the first time my soulmate touched me." He pulled his shirt the rest of the way down, covering the mark. Without even thinking about it, he tugged at the sleeve. He'd never worn sleeves before using them to cover his mark. He'd always passed it off as a tattoo, but when the mark had just turned into a bad reminder, he'd started covering it up for himself.
Julie didn't pick up on the tone of his voice though. He had played it casual, so he didn't blame her, especially as she rushed up to him with shining eyes and a wide smile. "Wait what? You have a soulmate? How come you never told me?"
"Because I HAD a soulmate," Luke answered softly, offering a small smile in response to her enthusiasm. It turned a little bitter when he continued, "I don't. Anymore."
Suddenly Julie looked really guilty. "Luke, I-"
"It's okay," he dismissed quickly. "That's just why I don't usually engage in soulmate conversations." He forced his smile to brighten. "Now, where were we?" Seeing his urgency, the others shared looks before moving the conversation onward. They talked about soulmates around him a lot less after that.
-
Hey, wait!" Luke's eyes had caught the guy that had saved him earlier as he moved through the crowd. Luke picked up his pace, reaching out to catch the guy's arm. Suddenly they were looking at each other straight on. Luke was a little shorter, but he was a little shorter than most people so it wasn't new. "Sorry, I just wanted to thank you for earlier." He felt his body heat up under the stranger's gaze. "I... thought you would have left."
A smile rose to the stranger's face. "I don't exactly require a lot of space to handle business." When Luke drew back, the man ducked his head. "Sorry I didn't mean to be vulgar, I'm just used to people... anyway." He shook his head. "You don't have to thank me. Not everyone likes to get attention like that from people, and I have no issue stepping in when it's required." His fingers tapped against his leg, his demeanor a lot different from the flirty, confident front he'd put on earlier.
Luke swallowed, trying to pull himself together. "Uh... what's your name?"
The guy's shoulders sagged, as if he was disappointed by the question. "Y/n. Yours?"
"Luke," Luke responded. "Listen, I was just wondering-"
"Look," Y/n began, a sudden tiredness coming into his features. "I get that you're not into girls and that's fine, but I've already had sex tonight and I'm really not in the mood to-"
"What?" Luke's face screwed up in confusion. "I don't want to do that. With anyone, let alone you. I... I'm into girl. And guys. But- I- That's not why I-" His face burned hotter. "Listen." He reached forward, grabbing Y/n's palm. He turned it up, to reveal what he was so hoping would be there. A mark, in the shape of a rose. It looked a lot like a tattoo, just without any color. The details were outlined in black ink - even the thorns on the stems. He felt thrilled when he saw it, angling his body to show the exact same mark on his shoulder. "I know we all grew up on the same stories. But I thought... maybe we could get a drink? Talk? I'm the first one of my friends to get a mark and I'd hate to lose the chance to act on it." He shuffled nervously, ready for rejection.
By the look on Y/n's face, it might be harsher than he wanted to face. Y/n surprised him though with a gentle, "I don't think you want me. I- I know we're soulmates, and this has nothing to do with you being a guy, or the whole weird thing most people have with soulmate bonds. I just... I'm not the best person. People don't usually stick around for long."
There was something in what Y/n said that pulled at Luke. "Maybe I could change that. I'm planning on sticking around for a while. How about you?"
Hope of the kind Luke had never seen before filled Y/n's eyes and Luke was rocked breathless by the sight. "You promise?"
"On my life," Luke swore. "At least give me one date to prove I'm not a total waste of time."
Y/n grinned. "You have one date." Luke pumped his fist and Y/n laughed. "Now what did you have in mind?"
-
Luke plopped next to Julie on the couch, concern already on his face. "Are you okay?" He asked softly, slowly reaching out to rub her arm. Alex was on the other side of her, laying on his chest. The two had gotten really close in all their talk about soulmates but when Alex had shot him a plea for help, Luke had been plenty willing to jump in.
"Yeah," Julie sides, picking up her head. "Flynn and I just got in a fight. It was dumb, I just... Someone made a comment asking about 'my boyfriend' after the performance yesterday. Claiming we were together. They were talking about you." She sighed and Luke felt like he was the worst person to get involved in this, but one look from Alex made him stay where he was. "I told them you weren't my boyfriend, and the conversation moved on. She was a little annoyed that I didn't mention she was my girlfriend, I guess? And then went off about how you're into me or something?" She shook her head.
Luke's eyes went wide. "Wait what?"
"I know!" Julie gushed. "I tried to defend you, because we all know that's kind of just how you are with everyone. I mean people also think you're dating Reggie and that's not true..." Suddenly her head tilted. "Is it?"
Despite the tense feeling of the situation, Luke laughed. "Uh, no." Then he considered it, and tilted his head in thought. "I mean, not that I'd pass up the chance if it came. Just-"
Seeing him struggling, Julie supplied, "Your soulmate?" Luke hesitated before sighing and nodding. "When did you..."
"Not long before the night we died, actually. A month max? Time started to kind of blur as things got more intense and trying to get over a break up and stuff." He shrugged.
Julie nodded. "That makes sense." She hesitated, but finally asked, "You don't have to answer if you don't want to, of course, but... what was she like?"
That made Luke smile. "He."
Her eyes widened. "Really?"
He laughed. "Yeah, really. Uh, I mean it was actually Alex who helped me come to terms with that whole me being attracted to dudes thing." He shook his head. "Anyway-"
Julie chuckled. She calmed, her eyes settling on Luke with a gentle curiosity. "What was he like?"
Immediately Luke remembered a time when things were amazing. When life had seemed truly good since he'd run away from home. "He was... like, a light. In a really dark part of my life, he came to me like sunlight in the morning? You know when the nights really dark and the clouds cover the stars and the moon just isn't enough and then the sun rises and it's almost a relief? It's like that. I had enough before him, but after... It was like everything I needed - everything I'd ever wanted or dreamed about or thought of - it was just right there. A whole person made of my dreams." He got a sort of dreamy smile on his face. "He was always so warm and soft. He used to... trace it." He rose his hand so his fingers ghosted over the mark on his shoulder. "When he did, it sort of tingled. Like this warm sensation that rippled across my skin. It always did that when he touched it. I usually did it more though. I'd hold his hand in my lap and just like stroke the mark. Cause his was on his hand, below his thumb. He used to call me his flower because of it." A bubbly laugh rolled from him and Alex and Reggie looked at each other in surprise. They hadn't seen Luke like this since...
Julie's eyes were very soft. "He sounds amazing."
"He is." Luke's smile suddenly faded, slowly. His fingers grazed the rose again. "He dances like I play music. He was really good at it. All kinds of dancing actually. He used to slow dance with me all the time. Just pulling me close when it was just us and swaying back and forth. He did actual dancing too, but I loved slow dancing with him the most. If he was feeling really restless he would HOARD spray paint and sneak out. The next day we'd wake up with some street art of our band. It's how we did most of our advertising back then. No one could ever pin it on us because we didn't do it, and no one knew me and Y/n were..." Suddenly Julie realized why Luke looked so sad while talking about something that was obviously such a happy time. "I mean, two guys are soulmates in a world where both soulmates and anything nonheteronormative is demonized? I was trying to make a band that was gonna get really popular and do a lot of incredible things and we couldn't even DREAM of being caught together, let alone going public. Girls would still flirt with me all the time, and I got distracted really easily with practices and writing music." He shrugged. "I always thought that soulmates were... different, I guess. I learned my lesson." He stood, putting his guitar down. "I'm done for today. I'll see you guys later." He walked out and Julie almost went after him, but Alex shot her a look.
"Well that went well," Julie mumbled, sitting down again and rubbing her face.
Alex sighed. "About how well it always goes." He shook his head. "But anyway. How about we figure out how to get you back on Flynn's good side?" He winked and Julie managed to actually smile. Luke hadn't had luck with soulmates, but she had. The past was the past. It was time to enjoy the now, until Luke was ready to really talk about it.
-
Luke wasn't sure what he had walked in on, but it was obviously something he wasn't supposed to have. When he opened the garage door, the muffled sounds of an argument trying to be hushed died out immediately and of all people, Reggie and Y/n were the ones who stepped away from each other to break out of whatever heated exchange they'd been having.
Since Y/n and Luke had started... whatever it was they were, Y/n and Reggie had become like best friends. At first Luke had been a little jealous, but at the end of the day he was just glad that his two favorite people had someone when he was busy as he so often was. Bobby and Alex were important to him of course, but Y/n was his soulmate and he and Reggie had known each other the longest. Sometimes he felt like there was a disconnect between him and Alex; the same with Bobby. He and Reggie were always on the same wavelength though. Even when Reggie missed something, he always got the idea or figured it out after a second. He was slower to do so when it came to the others. Y/n was the same way, as if he was just an extension of Luke's body. Rather than an echoed return, it was just one fluid motion. He and Reggie bounced off each other and built; he and Y/n slowly grew together, feeding off a constant wave of energy. Reggie and Y/n were like a game of hot potato, where the potato got hotter each time they threw it. They had that same gaining effect, but not an echo or a constant, just a little bit of energy from each until it was overflowing. The three of them were kind of unstoppable and anytime they could all hang out, it was the most fun any of them had ever had.
That didn't seem to be the case right now.
Y/n snagged his bag, throwing it over his shoulder. "Hey." His voice was strained, and all of his muscles seemed to be tense. He couldn't focus directly on Luke, his eyes constantly drifting to the door. He wanted to book it.
Luke caught Y/n's shoulder, his eyes full of concern. His eyes drifted between the boy trying to run and the one still in the studio, retreating to the furthest corner - seeming just as desperate to escape. "Wait what's happening here?" Luke asked. "You guys never fight." When they didn't answer, he pressed, "Come on, maybe I can help. Friends argue all the time; it's not a good idea to leave on a bad note."
Despite how odd it was, he did not miss at how the two flinched at the word 'friends'.
Finally, someone spoke. "It doesn't matter, dear." Y/n didn't relax, and the small smile he managed onto his face was so forced it was painful to look at. Luke went to argue, but Y/n rose a hand and caressed his cheek and Luke got distracted for a second - just long enough for Y/n to add, "Just some talking between friends." The word came out harder than the others. Friends. Luke was even more confused. "It was stupid to argue about. Some people just have their minds set, and that's it."
Luke's eyebrows came together, eyes moving between Y/n and Reggie. "You know you guys could... tell me, right?"
"Of course," Y/n reassured. "We just..." He sighed. His walls fell and Luke relaxed, knowing whatever was about to come out of his mouth would be genuine. "Can we just not talk about it please? It's something we need to deal with."
That was understandable. Luke could let it go for now.
-
Luke was glad he couldn't dream anymore. It had taken him a while to figure out he could go to sleep. He didn't tire like he used to, and usually any exhaustion he felt faded pretty quickly if he just sat down and relaxed for a few minutes. He had been nervous the first time he'd fallen into what he now considered sleep, and had woken up pretty quickly. But then he realized he'd been out for half an hour and he hadn't had any dreams. Not like when he had when he was alive.
Y/n wasn't in his dreams now that he was dead.
If he was being honest though, in the very back of his brain, he did miss it. He missed going to sleep knowing that he would be lulled all night by imaginary arms, dreaming of a life he yearned for. A life he missed. A relationship he so regretted losing.
Without the dreams, he started to imagine. Just out of nowhere, if he wasn't engaged in something important, he might just sort of... zone out. And he would think. Think about what things used to be like when Y/n was still around. What life might have been like if Luke had been better. Just, in general. They'd never even called each other boyfriends. The title had never been used, and Luke knew it was because their relationship didn't deserve that. They cuddled sometimes and kissed sometimes and knew each other well, but Y/n had never been Luke's first priority. Of course his music was important but...
The night they'd... broken up? No, that was for people who dated. It was more of just a parting of ways. They'd argued and then Y/n had walked out and like an idiot, Luke had let him. He hadn't gone after Y/n, or tried to fix it after. He'd just lost himself in music and the thrill of being so close to fame and victory. It hadn’t been until he was dead and had realized he’d missed twenty-five YEARS that he even thought about Y/n again.
And now he couldn’t STOP thinking about Y/n. How wonderful and special their time together had been and how much Luke absolutely didn’t deserve it. How he had ruined everything and just let it be ruined. He had been too ashamed to go looking for Y/n because he knew it would only bring him pain. Seeing him with someone else - or even worse, still alone - it would kill him. Again.
What really sucked is that Luke was back to exactly where he’d been when he was alive, after Y/n had left. He was distracting himself with music and work and shutting everyone else out and refusing to talk about it or acknowledge it or anything, and WANTING to go back and fix it but being far, far too terrified to. The result was that Y/n was just always on his mind, more prominent than ever, because now he had so much more guilt. So much more pain, watching all his friends be happy and in love. It was all so much harder to ignore.
Maybe that was why he saw Y/n across the street as they stood outside Bobby’s house, Julie telling them off for going after Bobby and holding onto the past when there was so much in the present to focus on.
Luke suddenly couldn’t hear a single thing Julie was saying.
He stepped past her, eyes wide and heart racing. He had forgotten how beautiful Y/n was. Maybe it was a weird word to use for a guy but... GOD it fit.
The weird thing was that Y/n wasn’t a day older than the last time Luke had seen him. So for a second he thought that maybe he was just imagining it. But the longer he looked, the more clear Y/n became. He wasn’t looking at Luke. His eyes were focused on Bobby’s house, anger twisting his features. And then someone passed him, a woman and her child, and they walked right through Y/n and the small child, a little girl, jumped, eyes wide as Y/n seemed to become clear to her. She dropped her toy and Y/n ran to pick it up and hand it back to her, a soft smile on his face. She took it back with a look of awe and then hugged her little toy close, a huge smile on her face.
She said something to her mom and Luke didn’t know how but he HEARD it.
“Mommy! Mommy! The angel helped me!”
Luke took another step forward. “Y/n?” He only whispered it. He was sure the others hadnt even heard it, let alone Y/n from all that distance away. But he looked anyway, as if answering to his name, and his and Luke’s eyes locked.
Behind him, someone gasped and someone else shouted in a voice flooded with concern.
Then Y/n disappeared, and with him, Luke felt his heart shatter all over again.
