So I’ve thought about this shit a lot in relation to the Vorta and am only writing this now because I hope to point out the capacity for interesting story telling they had. At least before it was generally ignored by ds9 to my knowledge.
I haven’t read the books mind you. This is just me being a big fan of clones and thinking way too hard about them, see my previous fixation on Star Wars The Clones Wars where I literally broke down crying when I realized that they were basically pointless and inevitably meant to die, and wishing more people would talk about the possibilities that the Vorta held.
We got bits of it in Treachery Faith and the Great River but I’m gonna assume that it’s definitely twinged in Dominion dogma.
Still it’s something. We heard a little bit about the Vorta’s backstory and ran with it. All the lemur related Vorta designs show that much.
But what else is there to it? Were they actually small little animals or did they have the build of a possible society by that point? Would there be remnants of it somewhere? Possibly something that has survived the Dominion take over all these years?
Imagine if that got into the hands of a Vorta.
Weyoun is the most cult like of his kind that we see so what if a Vorta more like Keevan got their hands on it? There’s an argument to be made in my mind that Keevan is a defective clone, just not as obviously defective as Weyoun 6.
So if a Vorta like that go their hands on it, defective but not to the point of trying to escape.
Would they try to spread this idea? Try to interoperate it? What if after finding it they then went to Star Fleet with this information? They’d be able to humanize their species in the eyes of Star Fleet that they wouldn’t overwise be.
The Jem’Hadar have been known to be artificially for some time so there can be a general understanding of within Star Fleet of this fact. However I doubt Weyoun’s story about his people made it’s way up the chain after Odo found out about it. If it did they were in the middle of a war and probably didn’t care enough about it to give it a second glance.
If a Vorta defector brought this up to someone on Deep Space Nine though I’m sure someone like Odo or even Sisko would be drawn in by this idea and try to find more.
Further building sympathy for the Vorta and the Jem’Hadar possibly.
There is so much there.
And I understand why they couldn’t do that or didn’t even think of it.
But it still is really sad to see that that happened in the show.
When I was watching I kept hoping for more on the Dominion in general, but it never came.
It’s fine, really but I do wish there was more and that the those that care about the Vorta would delve into this a bit more.
Idk if someone has please point me in that direction. I just really really wanted to bring this up in some capacity.
Maybe this is just the inane ramblings of someone who sympathizes with clones way too much because of the shows they watched as a kid. But there’s just so much there and I want to see more people talk about it. <3
the "I just think Weyoun is a silly little guy" to "NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. THEY'RE DESIGNED TO BE APPEALING TO OTHERS BUT UNABLE TO PERCEIVE BEAUTY THEMSELVES. THEY WERE THE FIRST SPECIES TO SHOW KINDNESS TO THE EARLY CHANGELINGS INSTEAD OF ATTACKING THEM AND THAT KINDNESS HAS NEVER ONCE BEEN RECIPROCATED. THEY HAVE SO MUCH FAITH AND DEVOTION AND YET THEIR GODS WILL ONLY EVER SEE THEM AS DISPOSABLE PARTS. I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT THE VORTA WHY IS NO ONE LISTENING TO ME" pipeline
