tbgb x panic! at the disco: comprehensive guide
from someone who's been a panic scholar since i was eleven and a tbgb scholar since i was fifteen (i know what im on about)
this is intended to be a positive and helpful informative etc post bc ive been seeing some terrible misinformation online about this specific crossover and I feel the need to correct it
ill list each album bar vlv and then list every song from that album which I believe is tbgb-applicable and newlab-applicable and give a/some particularly relevant lyrics ok lets go
most important ones r in red btw
afycso
only difference: "oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention, I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives"
london beckoned: the whole song?? literally like "slightly clever to just a certain extent" "make us it make us hip make us scene"
time to dance: was hesitant to include bc it is about a book but "give me envy give malice give me your attention" is so them (nothing else though)
i constantly thank god for esteban: "'cause I am a new wave gospel, sharp, and you'll be thy witness"
pretty. odd.
she's a handsome woman: ok to get this one you have to understand my own personal theory that this song is about a gay man coming to terms w his sexuality. trust me it works "wink, just don't put your teeth on me" etc
folkin around "you've never been so divine in accepting your defeat, and i've never been more scared to be alone." top ten panic songs ever btw
vices & virtues
let's kill tonight: "fate will play us out with a song of pure romance"
hurricane: "you and god both got the guns", "oh I'd confess, I'd confess in the room where i'm blessed, but he didn't come and speak to me or put my heart at ease", "fix me or conflict me, I'll take anything"
trade mistakes: "(don't) let me save you, hold this rope then I'll pull you in 'cause I am an anchor sinking.."
special note to say that the calendar isn't on here bc its literally explicitly unequivocally about mikey way and that's just the truth of the matter I can't twist it in my mind to be tbgb
nearly witches: "trembling hands play my heart like a drum but the beat's gotten lost in the show"
stall me: "a dark room in the wallflower garden of the party", "my moods are mercurial but I'm no mercury, don't hold your breath"
oh glory: "build myself a wall of unhappy highs and only my heart knows my head is lying"
I wanna be free: "everything seems to be estranged when you're alone"
turn off the lights: "turn on the charm for me tonight"
twtltrtd
vegas lights: "bored with looking good", "would you change it if you could?"
casual affair: "so the mess that we'll become leaves something to talk about"
far too young to die: don't even fucking want to talk about this one its the best song panic's ever released and its about tony blair and gordon brown can u imagine that full post coming soon xx
death of a bachelor
victorious: "all my friends we're glorious", "I'm like a scarf trick, it's all up the sleeve"
don't threaten me w a good time: ok I don't have any lyrics for this one I just want someone to do a tony blair edit to this song (tp if you're listening I'd support)
golden days: "the decades might've washed it out"
tgtbatd: look it almost has tbgb in the title
house of memories: this ones been tiktokified so im hesitant... "I wish I could believe you'd never ruined me"
pftw
none! crazy......
#new labour#gordon brown#tony blair#tbgb#she speaks!#lolitics#panic! at the disco#first instance of this tag on here..... more to come no doubt#top 0.01% of panic listeners on spotify everyone else get fucked#not smth to brag abt icl#hope this was a helpful guide for those in need I will be expanding on some of the stuff here in future x#lock me tf up NOW

Diamonds and Daggers: a Ramble
This is a mess I don’t know what to tell you
First of all, I’m obviously interpreting most of the this song as literally sexual. Yes, it has deeper meanings, but i really don’t think it’s a straight up metaphor for getting fucked over by the music industry the whole time. I’m interpreting it like this because I’m horny! But also because I think it does Brendon a disservice to ignore what he’s explicitly (…very …explicitly) trying to communicate with the lyrics at face value. This song, I believe, was written for PFTW, that album is a love letter to vegas, reflecting on his youth from a place of success. A significant part of his Vegas youth and early success was his sex life. Obviously 😂 I have a whole blog about his sex life. So there’s some truth to it. Also, Brendon has always been very autobiographical in his writing, so I wouldn’t he surprised if almost everything comes from a place of real life experience, even if his main purpose is to communicate the punishing, addictive nature of his career.
Anyway. This is a bad time to tell you guys I’ve always had a slight masquerade mask kink 😂 they just make people hotter. I’ve started appreciating the emotional intimacy intimacy side of sex so so much more in the last year and a half or so as I’ve been unpacking trauma and forming strong bonds with who I’m attracted to, but fuck if the thought of having a no-holds-barred all night fuckfest with a mysterious stranger doesn’t sound pretty appealing 😂 especially a man even though I generally fantasize about women. Maybe it’s because men are already sub-human to me, so a faceless jacked sex slave to wordlessly do my bidding sounds perfect (THATS A JOKE DONT CANCEL ME)
(He’s a baby in this gif and therefore unsexy but you get the picture)
This song is what I envision when I think of early-to-mid-twenties Brendon on sexy Vegas romps (and the overly sexualized picture of Vegas in general… not just the sad expensive dusty desert town it normally is in reality. I mean, it’s fun, but normally not sexy sexy like you would wish it was.) Debauchery and anonymity and eagerness certainly. Beyond the physical setting of Vegas, I feel like d&d (unfortunate abbreviation), calls on some of his early touring days. A blur of substances and hotel rooms and more substances and sensations pretty people he’ll never see again in a good way. I love the submission and masochism, first of all because it’s so so so Brendon, but also because it depicts his… I’m not sure the right wording. Lack of maturity? Inexperience? Naivety of the time? Maybe self-doubt? It’s not quiiiiiite immaturity in the way But It’s Better depicts immaturity (shitty cocktails and naively believing you can find emotional fulfillment in meaningless sex. While there’s some sense of sex and booze dulling the pain, it’s different somehow. Less overt? Maybe it’s the ever-present sense of self-satisfaction, even when he wakes up alone in an alley, he’s still thinking of the taste of her. I think a lot of it could be that this song was looking back on naivety while BIBIYD was written during a place of strong naivety still. The boys had likely never actually been to a strip club at the time nor formed serious connections with sexual partners.) I mainly get a sense of deference to his partners as he’s assuming they’re older and/or more experienced and can show him the best way to a good time. In addition, the concept of novelty comes into play too there. If he lets a bunch of different people show him the way, he’ll learn a bunch more than if he’s leading them. I also love the line “I thought I’d seen it all ’til you dropped me to my knees”, mainly because it’s hot, but also because it really captures the awe and inexperienced naivety of young, exploratory sex. “You’re telling me there’s more?! 🫦🤤” Plus the “tell-tale heart” line tells me he was probably putting on a facade of confidence while nervous and/or embarrassingly excited deep down, which is another hint at immaturity and inexperience. It’s possible the heart mention is meant to imply more yearning for a deeper connection beyond the sex, but idk. It’s a demo so I’m not going to look too deeply into the lyrics themselves as they could just be drafts and placeholders without muchhhh meaning. It could also be a more tasteful way to bring up arousal. The words “tell-tale” make me think of him trying to play things aloof with a woman or other partner while obviously achingly hard. I’m sure there’s a connection to the Poe poem (the poe-m if you will), but I don’t know if it goes deeper than wordplay with the title.
B’s verified comment on But it’s better. Also the stripping story is wild and a little sad but I digress
I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of seedy shit (I’ve been fucked in many a shitty motel and apartment, and I have the most messed up nostalgia and romanticization of that time) and a classy facade, which I feel like the song really encapsulates. The black tie almost-eyes-wide-shut-esque orgy/S&M sex club, the velvet rope, waking up stumbling and fucked well, even the iconic “silk tie tourniquet” alluding to shooting up using nice clothes hbjjjsjsjk (I’m a recovering addict for those who don’t know and drug imagery+sex either makes me really horny because it’s double appealing or I go into a full blown panic attack because extremely iffy consent 😂 a fun Russian roulette game I play. But this imagery is appealing). Basically nice clothes scattered across the floor while debauchery takes place (I have a formal wear kink also if that wasn’t clear).
I’m obsessed with the hunger and desperation. We always knew Brendon to be a horny bastard, especially teens (ew I know) through late twenties. He still desires and enjoys sex now of course of course. But it’s slower, more about relishing emotions and forging emotional intimacy (for example, MOAB’s make-up/break-up sex depicted the emotional effect of sex on a relationship, the yearning to be physically close to make up for everything else. Sugar Soaker is playful moans and flirty teasing, probably drawing at least some inspiration from Sarah and his sex with her. But both songs certainly take sex… not for granted, but not as something he thinks he needs more than oxygen.) this song however. It’s a visceral biological NEED and that’s clear. It’s not making love, it’s fucking… hard (I did not mean to reference 50 shades 😂 but I realized I was as I was typing.) “wanna taste it all,” “beg and crawl,” “til I choke,” “starvin’”. Even as he’s fucking, its never enough: “louder, faster.” (I wonder if that’s his request or his partners’ for him. I assume he’s often the one penetrating [certainly not always. Pegging, fingering, etc. Not my thing but you do you. He says he’s never had penetrative sex with a man and I believe that just because why would he lie when he’s told us so much about his sex life already?], so it makes more sense coming from a partner he’s fucking. but could be a request coming from him during a blow/handjob, being ridden, impact play, aforementioned buttstuff, grinding, so it’s certainly not a given. I like the ambiguity, plays into the vibe of sex coming from everywhere and surrounding his life. Maybe he doesn’t even know who’s begging, just knows everyone fucking needs it. Maybe two people are fucking next to him and they’re requesting more, who knows? Not them and not me 😂) It also shows Brendon eager to please which I love. Lots of oral talk. That makes it clear that he’s desperate for more than just a quick orgasm despite the frenzy. He wants the new sensations, the skin-on-skin fervor, the satisfying moans of pleasure as you make someone come hard on your face (i miss eating pussy 😭😭😭😭😭😭) I feel like baby Brendon and modern Brendon fuck for the same length of time, the main difference is just that baby Brendon comes at least twice and sometimes early on, and elderly Brendon comes once at the very end when Sarah is tapped out and quivering and the sheets are soaked and fuck I’m going to come, someone sit on my face. My mouth is watering. It’s like baby Brendon is rushing to have more sex as he’s already deep into someone’s cunt. Nothing is ever quite enough. Like shoveling your face at a buffet even though you’re surrounded by food.
BAHAHAHAHA how did he say this with a straight-face
There’s definitely some slight hyperbole. While I’m sure he did attend orgies and get fucked hard against walls, there’s omission of the real-life awkward moments and human connection. It’s a high-light reel. Even the waking up in an alley moments are glamorized somehow. Like, he had bad haircuts and rotted on filthy tour buses and jerked off alone to shitty porn and had awkward embarrassing moments too back then. It wasn’t all underground sex parties. But I’m sure, especially in retrospect, some times just felt like a blur of bodies. It reminds me of hey look ma a bit, especially the music video, just going as hard as you can until you break down
While, again, I’m not analyzing anything too too deep (mostly I’m too sleepy and horny and a little sad tonight to be doing anything with my brain), I do want to touch on the phrase “Diamonds and Daggers” itself because it’s the title. It does kind of sound like words Brendon thought sounded good together and used as a place holder without much meaning, but I think at the very least, he’s talking about a carrot and stick type thing. He wants the good and the bad equally, pain with pleasure. This sort of plays into the idea of getting off on the very idea of depravity and sin so he wants it all. Also of course, it’s a metaphor for the music industry. I know I’m taking these lyrics very seriously and I appreciate the double entendres but I’m sorry, I’ve heard about his love-hate relationship with his job a billion times. I haven’t heard him getting strapped to walls a billion times. Fuck me 🤤 Also im autistic so literal meanings are easier for me 😂
There’s something about this song that is exactly what I’ve been wanting. It has the Vegas vibes that are a little deeper than just TWTLTRTD (which leaves a lot to the imagination but nothing is explicit. Calling himself a libertine, letting us imagine the sordid details of a casual affair, a FWB situation with Ms. Jackson, ggb about a threesome, partying in Vegas lights, a desperate hooked feeling about a person in nicotine, an obviously partially physical love affair throughout collarfull.) The lyrics to the original Vegas Lights sort of scratched the itch as they were more explicit but they were still more about generally being young in a party town. D&d has more art to it than MOAB or Sugar Soaker, which, while songs about sex, are kind of “I FUCKING LOVE HAVING SEX WITH MY WIFE IM SO FUCKING FAMOUSSSS” (Sugar Soaker sounds like a demo to me. I’m dead serious. I like it, but you can hear Viola’s influence and I don’t love him.) Honestly, as much as Panic! Is a sexy band who sings (sang 🥲) about sex, it’s normally in the context of an affair or relationship or shrouded in deeper meanings about the music industry or the nature of relationships. While this song certainly has that, it’s less annoying about it 😂 and like, the lyrics themselves are arousing I guess. That’s what it boils down to. While I might get aroused listening to casual affair and imagining him fucking me in secret while we sneak around, none of the lyrics themselves make me wet and desperate. These are different. And while I’m sure the initial thrill will wear off, it’s still a different effect than his slightly subtler songs
I wonder why this one was scrapped and adapted into Roarin 20’s (and I’m sure influenced other songs. Like hey ma.) I mean, it’s possible and likely this was always just a demo for him to capture the PFTW thematic and auditory vibe of reflecting on his wilder Vegas youth, and would never ever ever move beyond this anyway in the form of a song. But still, he wrote this sexy song for a reason. Could have been he was feeling nostalgic and horny but a reason nonetheless. He went as far as to record it, I do wonder if he wanted to make an explicitly sexy song for that album. I mean, it does fit well with the hedonism and music industry critique and pain and pleasure of pftw. But maybe he had to tone it down by label request or he didn’t want to feel to exposed (a good call considering a few atrocious fans during that tour) or maaaaaaybe even Sarah but I doubt it. She respects his art to the point that I don’t think she’d intervene unless it was explicit detail that obviously pertained to her (maybe why sugar soaker was toned down, but again, I think that’s just viola’s vibe). Or he just didn’t love it? I like that we’re getting it in demo form only personally. I’ve always sort of had issues with some of Brendon’s production and it’s easier to just say “it’s a demo, it’s going to sound a little bit shitty” than “THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER AGH 😭😭😭” plus it’s more intimate. I wouldn’t exactly want to see him sing this live (well maybe once but that’s just to see his face and body as he sings it. But not every night.) and while I’d like a music video because I can see this song SO CLEARLY in my mind 😂 there isn’t one that would satisfy me short of straight up porn (and then I wouldn’t like it still because of the ethical ramifications so 😂 maybe if it was simulated sex with a qualified intimacy coordinator and also we get to see his actual naked body including his cock then I’d be happy enough. But still nothing he could put on YouTube.)
But speaking of a music video, I do want to translate it into another medium. Maybe a fic? Especially if it was a bunch of tiny vignettes and less of a traditional fic. Or maybe just more inspiration for my longer form fic. I can’t really draw but I could trace certain elements into cohesive visuals or try painting. I would consider commissioning an artist but I’m poor, and again, I see this so clearly in my head. So I’m worried an artist would butcher my mental image.
To conclude (for now), a list of lyrics that made me dizzy in a good way in no particular order (it may just be all of it lol):
Strapped to the wall
Louder, faster
You dropped me on my knees (SO GOOD FUCK)
Pull me back into the black-tie masquerade
One hundred perfect bodies, zero names
Evening gowns and eye holes, no taboos
I wanna taste it all
Could move it to the mattress if you want (mmmm submissive man, tumbling into bed together, yes 🫦)
The taste of you that’s left inside my mouth
Lock me up and keep your name under my tongue (it’s a shame this one never made it into any real panic songs. It’s clever enough and it works well with a lot of Brendon’s ideas. Codependency, addiction, more about the music industry.)

didn't mention it before because I had to crosscheck album themes and stuff (and also because it was three am went i sent the ask), but like V&V and PFTW both have a lot of themes of like, memories, going back, and (most prominently), religious themes. the albums are called Vices and Virtues (biblical concept) and Pray for the Wicked (prayer, and expanded upon in Say Amen (Saturday Night) which has the whole message of Mormonism taking Saturday nights to prepare for prayer on Sunday Mornings)
as for VLV, that's just performance art. Brendon is long-standing not a lyrics guy, so I'm not really surprised that the album sucks but has like a music video plot. this imo is why it can't compare to Pretty. Odd. other than the obvious
TWTLTRTD is so boring to me that I haven't managed to listen to it enough times to garner a theme
yk how everything is about sevens? and Panic! At The Disco has seven albums? and like. one for sorrow two for joy three for a girl four for a boy five for silver six for gold seven for a secret never to be told? and how TWTLTRTD is kind of like a turning point in PATD albums (somewhat my opinion there, but you can't deny V&V was a lot more pop punk than TWTL's pop)?
i honestly think there's like a parallel album between the first and last three?? like, VLV and P.O. are both, (while very different), classic rock inspired albums coming right before a split that seem uncharacteristic for the band to release, DOAB and AFYCSO were both like, breakouts? except for AFYCSO is like, band breakout and Doab is solo artist breakout. also AFYCSO has lyrics about "one bad woman" (direct quote from the he band btw), and DOAB is about one bad man (Brendon, or "the bachelor") and V&V and PFTW are both made of songs primarily written by other people, and drew in more fans (this one is the most of a stretch)
and then like, TWTLTRTD is the middle ground? idk where it goes yet. but you see my vision!! and to tie this into ryden. Seven albums. Seven for a secret never to be told. ryden was obviously real, and he wrote two albums about it because he had a grand plan. or something
seven is also a biblical number btw. seven sins, seven virtues, seven days of creation and rest etc. seven is also a pretty common number of albums for an artist/s to sign on for contractually (idk if u saw the tiktok of that person in their car talkin about it).
also yeah v&v did have more of a pop punk feel but idk
the albums very much do parallel each other but I'm almost tempted to say they're also continuations??? not musically but possibly thematically and lyrically?
VLV is a bastardisation. or maybe false replica.
DOAB & fever were chart toppers and sellers. beloved. magic moments if you will were things went right. they both have the similarity in topics of discussion. DOAB being about the mourning of the single status into a relationship while fever sort of celebrates and criticizes said relationship (or its aspects) in a macabre pantomime.
v&v was written in large by dallon, pete and brendon roughly in that order. pftw, was written mostly by ghost writers if im not mistaken then brendon. so i get u on that.
and yea TWTLTRTD is the middle ground cause thats the last album i remember me or the bando, enjoying the majority of.
asdfghjhjk or something ye

can u explain the patd drama
there’s so much to explain and even as someone who considers themselves well-versed in the drama i don’t have all of the specifics down but. basically after p!atd’s second album was released ryan ross (founding member of p!atd, lyricist, main creative force behind the band) and jon walker (p!atd’s bassist) decided to leave the band in 2009 due to “creative differences.” the official story is that brendon wanted to make more pop-centric music whereas ryan wanted to do retro rock stuff (as is evident by his later project, the young veins), but there was also a lot of interpersonal drama between brendon and ryan that Some People believe has to do with a previous romantic and/or sexual relationship between the two of them but im not gonna get into that. basically they used to be incredibly close but their different artistic visions put a huge strain on the band (and it doesn’t help that brendon and ryan both have Massive egos lol).
brendon (and spencer smith, also a founding p!atd member) kept the band name and branding while jon and ryan started the young veins (and faded into obscurity). a lot of the music on vices and virtues, the first post-split p!atd album, was previously conceived by ryan and/or was partially developed by fall out boy bassist and p!atd mentor pete wentz, which is significant bc a lot of the band’s success in that era had nothing to do with brendon’s prowess as a songwriter or lyricist. dallon weekes joined the band as p!atd’s new bassist and was a huge contributor as well, especially when it came to lyrics and the band’s creative vision. he continued to write really great lyrics for too weird to live too rare to die, which also was pretty successful.
spencer eventually left the band due to his own personal struggles with addiction, leaving dallon and brendon as the only two official members of patd. this changed in 2015, however, when dallon was demoted to just being the touring bassist rather than an actual member of the band. brendon urie became the sole remaining member of panic! at the disco. death of a bachelor was released in 2016, and leading up to that brendon had said some pretty shitty things about his former band members, claiming that he wrote the album himself because they “weren’t up to his standards” (i can’t find the article but i remember it So Vividly bc i was so pissed off abt it lmao). dallon later left to work full time on his own project, i don’t know how but they found me, whose single “choke” is maybe definitely written in response to brendon and how he treated dallon during their time being in p!atd together.
basically, brendon pushed away a lot of his band members which resulted in a lot less artistic integrity and a lot more commercial viability. brendon has not had a unique thought or vision in a long time (like. even his music videos are super unoriginal. the high hopes one sucks and the whole muppet thing he was trying to do w the other pftw mvs was done by marianas trench several years ago). he has a reputation for egotism and is a notoriously difficult person to work with. so there’s that
#i havent read up on patd since middle school so if I have some of my facts wrong forgive me#i still hold so much resentment for brendon it’s unreal lmao#ri answers

Alright so I decided to torture myself fully listen to Viva Las Vengeance and give my two cents on it.
I indicated which songs I was listening to for the first time by putting an asterisk (*) next to the title
Just a little disclaimer: these are just my silly opinions, so please take them with a grain of salt.
…
Viva Las Vengeance
bro is trying to be like freddie mercury
his vocals don’t really match the music
this is kinda like a mix of vices & virtues and doab but in a weird way
what the fuck was that high note at the end he was clearly straining his voice
Middle Of A Breakup
these lyrics make no sense
like wtf is “keep your disco, gimme T-rex” ?????
again his voice doesn’t really match the music itself
this??? kinda sounds too much like viva las vengeance to me idk
Don’t Let The Light Go Out*
he sounds??? out of breath???
“you’re the only one who knows how to operate my heavy machinery” this line wouldn’t be that bad if it wasn’t sung so high compared to everything else
this song isn’t that bad actually
Local God
homie pls stop dissing ryan ross for no reason it’s been several years since you last talked him
oh no his voice doesn’t match the music again
help the verses and the chorus sound like two different songs like they don’t match
so what if ryan is way less known than brendon; ryan will always be superior <3
i do not like this song at all
Star-Spangled Banger*
“hOme oF tHe fREaKs”
what the fuck this shit is not a banger
again the verses do not match with the vibes from the chorus
oh my god his high notes are like nails scratching on a chalkboard
this song feels like a hate crime /j
homeboy is straining his voice A LOT here
God Killed Rock and Roll*
dollar store bohemian rhapsody
again his high notes are so obnoxious and out of place
i really have nothing else to say about this song
like it’s not bad but it’s not good either
Say It Louder*
“for the people in the back, back, back🥴”
this is kind of a bop tbh
i think i only said that because it doesn’t sound like he’s straining his voice for once
Sugar Soaker*
“you’re a car, you’re a woman, you’re a drug” ????????
i can vibe with this one,,, i think
“come on come come on coME ON COME ON”
Something About Maggie*
who tf is Maggie
“LeT hiM gOoooOo” please stop hitting high notes please
“makes me want to slit my wristssssss” bro is trying to be eDgY
why is he stressing the S’s so much
straining his voice again especially in the second verse
what was with that random beat change towards the end??? idk i found that weird
Sad Clown*
oh look he’s becoming self aware🤡
voice doesn’t make the music again
the high notes😬
seriously who is Maggie??? and Gloria??
this song is overwhelming me and not in a good way
BRUH I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD WHY DOES HE KEEP CHANGING THE TEMPO OF THESE SONGS OUT OF NOWHERE LIKE THIS IS GETTING TO BE ANNOYING
All by Yourself*
“you sweet little kitten” im going to yeet myself off a bridge
i thought i was listening to panic at the disco not celine dion’s “all by myself”
straining his voice for the 463738th time
this song is kinda boring tbh
Do It To Death*
don’t know how to feel about this either
i mean it kinda sounds similar to viva las vengeance
that high note gave me a mini headache
ooooh wow nostalgia from pftw with the orchestra at the end
what did we just go full circle because now he’s singing shut up and go to bed
…
My Final Thoughts
I had a feeling that I wasn’t going to like this album, and I was right. Brendon’s voice just isn’t as good as it was before. If he wasn’t constantly straining his voice, then maybe this album would’ve been slightly more tolerable. I’ll admit, though, that there are a few songs that I enjoyed (Sugar Soaker, Don’t Let The Light Go Out, & Say It Louder). But all the other songs sounded so off-key and messy to me. Overall the lyrics were boring and unoriginal. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with this album. I mean, I wasn’t expecting much from it, but it was way worse than I thought it would be.
Again, this is just my opinion on Viva Las Vengeance. I don’t mean to offend anyone who likes this album; if you like it, then that’s completely fine.

Don’t worry, I’ll also (anonymously) admit to liking some of PFTW. NEVER high hopes, King of the clouds is so good though
high hopes wasnt even BAD until the fucking thing got played every 15 minutes on every station in every store INESCAPABLY. now i genuinely want to rip that song apart w my bare hands. but ill always love dying in LA. sorry but i will. even the line about your past on the pavement below you/death in a tarot card KNOWING ITS ABOUT PANIC makes me *ripping up couch cushions like a dog* RRGGH
i like old fashioned and roarin 20s (minus the dumb blunt lyric -_-) SOOOO much…. maybe it was just bc of he summer i was living when it dropped? i was having so much fun with my friends and i just. ugh. rooftop pools in la. cocktails and concerts. summer and youth and everything perfect. nostalgic and fun and beautiful for the moment it was so like ofc i think of it fondly. like the whole album is basically the same song but if i said i hated it id be lying!!! and im not gonna lie for clout on tumblr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#it wasnt a good album but it wasnt INSUFFERABLE until high hopes became a literal war crime imo#stone me for this if u have to idc -___-#mail time!

i used to adore panic from my early to late teens and still listen to the first four pretty often but i just can't for the life of me get into pftw & the three singles. idk if it's cause i don't like urine as a person or if his songwriting is genuinely just awful imo but i can't stop hating on it <3 also i keep seeing people say the new one has pretty odd vibes?? like po was actually good & imaginative idk what they're on about. or maybe i'm just a bitter old person now lmao
tbf i only got into panic right when 'they' were starting the too weird era and even when i was most into them i wasn't *that* familiar with the band's history/drama but no i think ur right lol i don't think he's ever rly been a great songwriter what he's had, however, is a lot of luck and talented ppl in his corner he could hide behind (bc the frontman is always gonna be the center of attention regardless of their involvement in the process)
ryan was always the one responsible for the theatrical/creative aspects and the lyrics in the beggining and you could tell bc there was a shift when he left but it was still pretty good bc of jon's (i think? correct me if i'm wrong) and pete’s involvement in vices. then around that time i think dallon joined, and we know he's a pretty good songwriter and artist in general, and someone else said it best in the tag that too weird was basically repuposed brobecks he didn't release and he carried most of that album on his back ...beebo piss basically just showed up and sang. i quite liked that one but i can't listen to it now bc remembering how shit beebo piss is and my hatred for him vs how much i love certain songs makes trying to listen feel like i'm a demon trying to enter a church lmao 💀
then doab you can tell he was more involved bc it was MIIIIIILES from what the 'band' used to be and a lot more focused on like, lyrics-wise living large and the pursuit of fame, money and drugs with a bunch of high notes so you'd think it was amazing (and my 15/16 y.o ass thought like half that album was THE SHIT for how it sounded) less creative both in lyrics and imagery and more in line with what was popping off at the time instead of going against the current
but like literally with pftw (which even when i was listening to him still i thought was just the cringiest and most try-hard name) is when it really starts to show he's literally just bad lyrics and high notes in a trenchcoat bc dallon wasn't there anymore and there was no one to hide behind so he had to do all that shit himself. i s2g the only time i listened to that album in full, a bunch of songs fused together in my subconscious bc they all sounded SO SIMILAR i knew they were different but they were just....eh i don't remember being super blown away by any of it and it was by far my least favorite bc it was just. SO pop. i simply couldn’t even bring myself to listen to that silver lining song bc the lyrics and the singing were ATROCIOUS like.....oh my god. yeah...
i haven't listened to any of the singles from this album except for a clip of the newer one to see how bad it was and....it wasn't just bad...it was *REALLY* bad. there's this massive post that compares his newer stuff to rejected imagine dragons and i think that's kinda generous bc imagine dragons might not be 'amazing' but at least they're consistent and the vocals/production is alright. even before for mr piss if the lyrics weren't great he could hide behind good vocals, decent production or talented band members but now even his voice, the star of the show, now sounds so strained from all the drinking and smoking that he can't pull those same notes he used to as his 'one trick' so it's straight up unsalvagable because there's nothing going for it like 'oh the song isn't great but the lyrics are good' none of that. it's just ALL bad now.
i've seen ppl say 'oh but he wrote some songs in po and those were good it's bc he has a lot of cowriters' but it's like. if he was actually good on his own he wouldn't need them and working with them wouldn't make the music worse. i think he's gotten way too comfortable over the years with other ppl doing the work for him and letting fame get to his head and he's no longer capable of making anything good bc he's not that person he used to be (and even then idk if he was v good as a person...)*edit: he's also surrounded by yes men and enablers (Idk if that creepazoid Zack is still around...)*he's been beating a dead horse for years after everyone that made it what it was (good, unique, etc.) left and thinking he was too big to fail. now no one's interested in his music anymore bc not only is he shit, his music is shit too. u kinda almost have to wonder how he managed to push everyone away. he should have taken the L and let the band name go years ago but he knows he's nothing without it and anything he can do on his own will never reach that level so he's living in a shadow thriving of the nostalgia of times long gone but it's just starting to not cut it anymore and people are starting to really see it, i think.
also i absolutely from the bits i have unfortunately seen, don't think it resembles po in any sort of way: it's not folksy, it's not imaginative it's just more sterilized top 40 friendly pop that sounds like 50 other artists and you could tell me anyone else made and i'd be none the wiser. there's no heart it in but it's sure to do well.....delusion is one hell of a drug ig
sorry this was so long i get mad talking abt his stupid ass i could dunk on him for dayyyyys
#idk if this makes any sense but i kinda blackout and just word vomited on here lolz#anon#anna answers#anti patd#anti brendon urie#anti panic at the disco#current patd#patd#This is rly long but tl:dr the rotating doors of members/collaborators within the band#Affect the quality of the songwriting and now that he's all alone the cracks are starting to show#Bc he was never good and if he's was he's far gone he just had talented ppl around him#Context matters to understand why things started to get specially shitty in recent years#txt#*blacked out lol#one of my edits didn't save for some reason so i added it again

What did I just listen to??? Its so..... wierd (Derogatory). He's almost ruined bees for me (Thank god for Cas). The back tracks just seem lazy and boring. The lyrics feel slapped together and random (not in a good refreshing "if you look close enough it'll make sense" Fall Out Boy way). He keeps repeating the same thing over and over. His voice sounds permanently seems stuck in high pitch, like he can't come down or comfortably sing in any other tone anymore. Also I know songs don't have to be deep to be good or fun but remeber when p!atd songs had meanings or told stories? I miss that. Also he's moved so far away from the OG sound this isn't just different it's bad. Genuinely feels like a downgrade. "Ryan come pick us up this babysitter is doing wierd things in our home" type downgrade
VLV sounds like. unfinished?? like, none of the songs live up to Ryan's legacy. even PFTW had somr interesting background sound but I feel like it's also what screwed up Brendons voice
And like just earlier I was thinking about the entire plot of There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet, and how VLV just doesn't compare.
(also! if you give me like, 5 minutes, a nat 20, and permission to tin hat, I can tell you why moab is about Ryan Ross)

So who else listened to the leak? Unfortunately, my ears are now bleeding and I can confidently say that every single one of the songs are ear rape. Lyrically, it’s complete nonsense, I didn’t hear a single line I liked. Musically, simplistic, and I don’t mean that in a “oh it’s simple and relaxing” way. It’s simple and, in my not so humble opinion, painful to listen to. Viva Las Vengeance is the best song off this album, and that’s not saying much. This is coming from someone who likes most of panics music, even PFTW (don’t sacrifice me for that.) I almost hope the leak is… A joke. Listening to this album was like hearing a sick joke. I know it can’t be, but it’s just so mind-blowingly bad I can’t even believe the idea of releasing any of these songs even crossed mr urine’s mind

also i think brendon's mad that ryan doesn't care about being famous. like brendon got an even bigger single under the p!atd name than ryan did and ryan doesn't seem to care all that much and i think that made him really mad. it seems like he wanted to prove that he could be better without ryan and once he "did" (i say this very loosely. panic! lost all its soul with pftw) ryan not caring made him angry ig? idk just thinkin
Yeah definitely!!! You're so right, and the way he even states it outright with some of the lyrics in local god-- "you had so many chances to become a star, but you never really cared about that",,,,, "its 2021 and im almost famous, but you never really cared about that",,,,,,,,, "DID YOU GET WEIGHED DOWN BY YOUR HEART OF GOLD" AUGH

hey! what do you think of the new p!atd song? i'm not a big fan, the chorus is catchy i suppose but lyrically it's not good, but i might just be biased
hm, it was a bit better than i thought it would be. though by that i dont mean it was amazing by any means, just more tolerable than pftw (so far, guess theres a whole album coming)
its very catchy so ill give him that. but the lyrics are bad and it sounds very fake and mainstream (which is like, the most emo way i can possibly put this sjfskfhshf, but seriously) which again........ good for him, its just depressing to have something so far derived from early panic! still go under the same name when it may as well just be brendons solo project at this point :|
i mean honestly, ive listened to the song maybe twice ?
its not really my type of music, which doesnt make it inherently bad. buuuuut also i just really wish brendon would stop going by "panic! at the disco" and just do his own stuff.
i think that makes my opinion a little biased as well lol.
#i hope this makes sense#im tired#tl;dr: its pretty much what i expected coming from brendon#ask reply#panic!

hi yes i have a take on vlv as well because i actually clicked on the vid out of curiosity after ur post and i scrolled down to the comments and they were so positive i was confused like ok maybe tumblr user voluntaryvictim doesnt have Objective taste so i should check this out too and . . .
man i used to simp for this guy like hardcore back when i was 15-16 and i definitely dont support him recently but this video felt like a slap to the face and im saying this as someone who believes in 'shitty people can be objectively talented' and legitimately enjoyed tracks like roaring 20s off of pftw although the album as a whole was a miss
of course the lyrics are sht bc he isnt stealing from ryan or dallon this time its just out of touch mediocrity but oh my god i think the most offensive thing was the SOUND of it
i still go back and listen to the miss jackson acoustic session at the buzz and Marvel at how theres gotta be some magic in the mic because holy frick his Voice is incredible and i think i saw an analysis once on how his vocal capability shines through when hes calmer in a smaller crowd of people rather than trying to jump around onstage while screaming his lungs out to a stadium like it just doesnt hit the same and one really suits his voice better but the other Doesnt
and one of the biggest appeals of panic! to me for a long time Was his voice ik people say ryan was better and everyone is entiteld to their opinion!! but i really liked br3nd0ns voice anyway to get back on topic
if i had never heard his voice before vlv i would legitimately think he was a bad singer or like a mediocre singer at best the instrumentals and supporting vocals just layer on top of his voice in such a clashing way like you pointed out and his voice doesnt keep any of that nice smoothness its just annoying and tacky and tasteless and yeah im so disappointed hes degrading himself even further like this like go back to the hiatus man if u couldnt save ur reputation at least preserve ur legacy??
anyway this is why i bump idkhow and idkhow only dallon knows how to Sing and Lyrics and really takes advantage of what kind of sound makes his vocal capability shine thru and i love him for that!!
see yeah i do think his voice can be good sometimes like you said! he has shown that he isn’t a terrible singer given the right song but my ears did not find his singing pleasant in vlv especially knowing he can. sing better
hopefully he can also take advantage of his skills which i know he has and if it works well on some of the songs on the new album. i’d be pleasantly surprised
anyway stream idkhow 😍
#there are quite a few good acoustic performances yeah i do agree but can he match that again. hm#answered#recordmcqueen

Panic songs we never got to hear and the lore around Panics unreleased material.
Cricket and clover (full album)
Also known as the “Cabin” album, this album was the 2nd studio album they wrote. It was scrapped in 2007 and they went on to write Pretty. Odd. Jon Walker has demos he found in his dads garage and Ryan Ross allegedly has them also. They haven’t been released/leaked for legal reason.
Freckles (Feat. Weezer)
This song was written for Vices & Virtues and has been never released. Brendon teased in an interview that it would maybe be a bonus track on Vices but that never happened. And this is something I speculate and isn’t a proven fact but one time someone asked Brendon what his favourite vices bonus track was and he said something along the lines of “I won’t tell you because you’ll never get to hear it” and I think that could possibly mean Freckles.
The Mark Hoppus co-written and produced songs
Back in 2009 Brendon, Spencer and Mark Hoppus of Simple Creatures, +44 and Blink-182 were writing songs together. Allegedly according to Urie, the songs were going to be produced by Hoppus and on the new record [Vices]. However, no song is credited to Hoppus on the finished record. According to Spencer, Mark Hoppus was too busy to produce anything at the time but whether any songs were ever written is unknown. An interviewer asked Spencer if they’d be on the next album and Spencer seemed keen on it being a possibility.
Coeur De Guimauve
This was the original title of Girl That You Love. The song was originally written in French, but the band decided to change the lyrics to something that sounded similar which is how Girl That You Love was born. I don’t know if the French version was ever recorded. coeur de guimauve translates to English as “heart of marshmallow/Marshmallow heart”
Pretty In Ink (Feat. 5SOS)
I have no idea when it was made but Brendon first talked about it in 2015. Then again in 2016, and again in 2019. He allegedly took the song to the bands studio and they worked on it and never put it out. I’ve heard that 5SOS have said the song will never be released, but I can’t find any credible sources for it.
Night Birds
This was a song written for Death Of A Bachelor. It’s only been talked about once in an article. He said he took it off the album last minute and described it as a "...Driving arena-rocker with a flashy guitar solo". He also described the song as "A little too early Butch Walker, but definitely not as good.” I personally doubt the song will ever be leaked or released.
Just A Simple Sponge
Obviously we’ve all heard of this song. We all know about it’s tony nomination and stuff like that, however we have never heard Brendons demo of it which allegedly exists.
Impossible Year (Vices Demo)
This is alleged on my part, because I have no idea if it actually exists or not. But the song was written some time after the spit of ‘09 before Vices was released. Whether or not Urie ever recorded a demo is up to speculation but it’s highly likely.
“One This Time” , “Post To London” & “Say Hello To The Bad Guy 007”
Three songs that I do not have any creditable sources for. I’m not even sure if they ever existed, but allegedly were written at some point. One This Time was allegedly co written by Butch Walker. Post To London was allegedly co written by John Feldman. These were discovered listed on the ASCAP website around later 2016.
Fuck Your Dreams
This was a song brendon wrote around kinky boots, was originally for Pray For The Wicked (I think) and got scrapped. (Allegedly.) it was also one that was listed in the fake track list that leaked before the real one, but in an interview with PopBuzz in 2016 he said it was a song he had written (but it could have been a joke.)
Cult Cobain
Also a song that was featured on the fake track list for Pray For The Wicked but this one has also been mean red before on a periscope. Whether it’s real or not, I’m not personally sure.
“Fuck You Craig” J.Cyrus
Last year in 2018 J-Cyrus played a snippet on a Twitch stream and said “there’s a way to tease it” and played a short clip of a song where Brendon sings. I don’t know if it’ll ever be released as I haven’t seen or heard anything as a follow up to it. Even though we did hear a clip, it never met the light of day. (Edit: with the more recent exposure of Jeff’s abusive nature, it’s safe to say this song will more than likely never be released.)
Pray For The Wicked Tour live recordings
Not much is known about them, but Brendon has said the tour songs were recorded. He has no plans of doing anything with them, but I think they’re worth mentioning.
All The Boys (Dallon Version)
According to Dallon Weekes’s wife, Breezy, there is a version of Dallon singing this song which is a bonus track from Too Weird. Not much else is known.
Girls/Girls/Boys (Brobecks version)
Allegedly he recorded some of the song back in 2009 with the far too young demo, but it sucked and they scrapped it. This is according to @/sledbeds so I’d say it’s probably true.
That one song Brendon leaked a few seconds of that didn’t make it onto PFTW
According to Brendon he had “15 b-sides” to Pray For The Wicked, so I assume this is one of them. Very curious as to what that song was.
Vegas Lights (explicit demo)
We’ve all read them. We know why they were scrapped. But was a demo ever recorded of these lyrics? Dallons voice? Brendons voice? No one knows for sure. But there’s a possibility that this recording could exist somewhere in the vaults.
Everyday I Write The Book (Elvis Costello cover)
Brendon recorded this cover with butch walker in around 2010/2011 and it was never released. Probably recorded for Northern Downpour and was never used.
Miss Jackson (the Alt Versions.)
Of course we all of Bad Apple, the controversial demo that sparked a feud with artist Fiona Apple. But there were other versions of the song. Lord knows how many and if they were ever recorded into demos, but Audrey Hepburn was one that they tried. The words were alegedly “miss Hepburn”. They also tried Marilyn Monroe but it “didn’t work out syllabically”
We’re In Love
The original title for The End Of All Things. There is also an “improv” Brendon preformed once on a periscope live where he sings lyrics saying “we’re in love.”
Metal Demo w/ Mike Naran on guitar
I’m pretty sure this was an unheard edition to the first metal demo Brendon shared with us, which is in the style of black metal. Brendon once muted a stream when Mike sent an audio file of a guitar part for a metal song. We will most likely never hear it.
The other Fun. songs
C’mon was not the only song Panic! Wrote with Fun./Nate and Jack. There we’re actually two versions of C’mon also, one of Brendon singing and one of Nate singing. Ultimately they mixed them together, but surely somewhere the original stems exist.
MØ song feat. Brendon
According to Brendon, MØ wrote a song and sent it to him, and he sang on it but “butchered” it and that It would probably never be released.
Song with Imogen Heap
Urie talked about this in a pre-split interview.
Every Chest You Stake, Toffee, TERNURA, QUARTETO, Poly Metal Melody, Anti-Neo Metal (and more)
These were all song titles/beat titles from a twitch stream where he accidentally showed a screen of his Logic files. Anti-Neo metal is most likely the metal song he played on the 24 hour charity stream.
(One of the most important articles used to write this is this one with Spencer. )

OKAY SO CONCEPT
you know how in the pftw tour, Brendon would play girls just wanna have fun by Cyndi Lauper? WHAT IF he played true colours by her instead? Come on, can’t you imagine thousands of fans holding up the p!atd hearts and pride flags to Brendon singing out the lyrics “ But I see your true colors shining through/ I see your true colors/And that's why I love you/So don't be afraid to let them show”
It would be iconic
