i've got a song called Z on my playlist and people keep bringing up tally hall's &. do you think we can make a whole playlist for the alphabet. the letters.
From a few days ago - Homestar's trip to Chicago! I brought him along to the windy city to see the TMBG concert there! It was an awesome time (except for the fact that everywhere we wanted to go was closed except Jolibees. Lol)
Oh and here's a video of my terrible Homestar impression
This video + a lot of these photos were taken by my brother so shout out to him!
there's something about "the end of the tour" closing out john henry, which marked the start of a new era in tmbg's career, and having a similar melody in the repetition of 'over now' to "everything right is wrong again," opening track of their debut studio album. it's still them.
It's crazy how often JL gets asked how he came up with Birdhouse because on one hand, yeah. It's an amazing song with clever and elaborate lyrics. From an outside perspective, if I didn't know how many times people asked that, I would be curious to know, too.
The problem with that is even the most mundane thing imaginable can inspire great media. Banger track, but it's literally just about a nightlight. That's it. JL has has had to say some variation of 'so what if a nightlight could talk' like a billion times for over 30 years.
I don't speak for them obviously, but if I had a decades long career with hundreds of other songs across my discography, and people only asked about That One Song I would personally go insane I think
what kind of music you like listening to? could be directed either to you or the doc (or both!!)
my favorite genre of music is.. whatever i like listening to. i just like music a lot!!
if youre wanting a more specific answer than that, then i really like classical, swing and big band, and mid-century modern lounge and jazz!! bossa nova also maybe. i also like listening film scores and the occasional opera.
we also somehow happen to be in the year 2024 at the moment so maybe youre wondering about some newer genres? well all of the above is still very true! but i also like electroswing, most kinds of rock, early 2000s rave and edm.. most kinds of edm or electronic actually, and this tends to cover a wide variety of genres but i also like listening to video game soundtracks.
My brother is so funny cos he got all his tmbg knowledge from me second hand when I was obsessed with them and so he thinks the most random songs are like well known amongst the general public like he'll just name drop the most random esoteric forgotten compilation album tracks like it's nothing But he also still hasn't really listened to anything since glean and he doesnt really know much about them / their history etc besides what hes learned from me and he doesn't know like anything about like. What tmbg fans are like / what general fan opinion is because the only hardcore tmbg fan he has ever interacted with is literally me
there must be hundreds that look at you as if you’re some kind of RHYTHM SECTION WANT AD!
image id: a digital drawing of kurier, benny and mister house from fallout: new vegas. kurier is shown to about her stomach, clutching a package in her arms and looking off to the right with an uncomfortable, nervous experession. on his left shoulder, pictured like a little devil, there is robert house yelling and swinging his fist in the air angrily. on his right shoulder there is benny, casually leaning on kurier’s head and talking, while doing a finger guns gesture towards him. above and behind kurier there is “rhythm section” written in red, and below and in front of him there is “want ad” written in yellow. the background shows a water ripple-like shape composed of different shades of blue. end id

the difference between the mountain goats and they might be giants is that you'll hear a tmg song that sounds like absolute nonsense and look up the lyrics and the annotations are like "oh actually this is a reference to the canterbury tales and also a metal band that existed for one month in 1996 and played three shows ever and all existing tapes of their debut album were melted down into glue 20 years ago" vs you'll hear a tmbg song that sounds like absolute nonsense and look up the lyrics and the annotations quote an interview with the johns where they're like "if you even think about interpreting this song we'll come to your house and kill you"
