started thinking something along the lines of "aw, what's wrong with me that i feel bad for unsubscribing from company emails" but then i remembered sitting in on a marketing meeting during my internship and listening to them proudly talk about how they use like. behavioral psychology to figure out how best to manipulate people into using their services and i feel much less like there's something wrong with me now

maybe it's just bc im an adult with other things to do, or maybe I have too many interests, but I think my problem with a lot of modern games is that like... you know how every professor seems to think their class is your only class and heaps work on you accordingly? except you're taking multiple classes and have no time left?

it's kinda like that. So Many Games seem to be built with the idea that like. this is and will always be your Only Game, so it's built to be huge and grindy and take hundreds of hours to complete, and I feel like really all it does is make it unreplayable or too intimidating to start if you have other things going on in your life (which everyone does)

like... I'd like to replay DA:I a couple times to see what it's like as different characters with different choices but I think my first playthrough took nearly 200h, and sure, I could skip sidequests, but what if they're different? what if they impact the end of the story?

or hzd! I didn't get very far into the game bc I thought I had made decent progress until I realized the map zoomed out and I'd uncovered maybe 5% of it and I knew it would be another game that needs a massive investment

idk man, I just miss the days of like. halo reach and halo 4 and portal and the other 360 games I have that I played dozens of times, over and over and over, bc they told their story and didn't take a hundred hours of resource gathering to do so

;-; you’ve picked a night when I’ve been drinking so I’m even more of a sap than I usually am, bless whomever you are I love you to the stars and back:

✧From Which Stars Have We Fallen, To Meet Each Other Here?✧ This will always and forever be my Top Pick of anything I’ve ever created: even though it’s an epitome god-tier rarepair, even though the handmaidens are canonically super minor characters, I get to work on this passion project with @evaceratops​, one of my best friends and an all-around wonderful human being (who I can bombard with fish/marine bio questions!!). And though Fives/Rabé is basically my fault, because Eva asked me once to help with the handmaidens’ personalities and then… you know the rest, this past year of just creating and telling a story with such a talented artist and friend has been absolutely incredible. We’ve fleshed out these characters, Naboo, countless other characters and worlds AND we’ve made so many other friends, I’ve met so many other wonderful people because of this fic, because of this friendship and this fic… and we’ve written an amazing story that I’m incredibly proud of. More than anything, this fic means the absolute world to me because we’ve created it together ❤❤

✧Echoes of Malevolence✧ I worked so hard for about two months on this fic. I’ve never written anything horror-wise before, but I’ve always adored the parallels between Finn and the clone troopers (two of my favorites). I wanted to write something that would honor that parallel while also speaking to the tragedy of the clones’ lives. I picked the battle of Abregado, which TCW opens with, because it was so brutal that I thought it just had to leave a mark on the Force. Force mysteries are interesting to write - plus I got a super mega kick out of writing horror. It makes me want to write more. (Also: Finn definitely goes back to gather the bodies of the fallen clone troopers and give them a proper burial.)

✧Five Questions✧ Though not technically a Finnrey fic, this was another favorite because of that intimate, deep-rooted connection between two of my favorite characters, as well as revamping concepts I didn’t much enjoy from TLJ. I wrote Luke Skywalker for this first time because of this fic, and I like to think I did his character justice. I got to explore Force mysteries, one of my all-time favorite things to write about, and I got to write Force-sensitive Rey and Finn, the ultimate battle couple. It was also the first fic that I really experimented with prose styles, with nuances to add depth to stories, the start of a personal style that I only further developed with:

✧And Everything Burned✧ Technically speaking, this might have been the most challenging yet enjoyable thing I have ever written, period. It let me explore themes and ideas I have been drawn to - the afterlife, dreams, memories, souls and alternate universes and a Something Greater in the Cosmos - with two of my favorite characters to write. I am so immensely proud of this fic it’s unreal. I spent two months on it, like I did with Echoes, and I’ve come out of it a much stronger and much more confident writer. If you explore one fic on this list, make it this one. This is my strongest piece and I could not be prouder of it.

✧Define Beauty✧ Still an absolute favorite, because it was a moment of raw, vulnerable honesty with Fives - a super-masculine character - and his coming-to-terms with personhood. I cried while I wrote it, and then I released it into the world and made others cry with me. Simple, heartbreaking yet hopeful. That’s my style.
