Thinking about post game Illario again and the mental state he must be in. He's literally lost everything.

Things will never be the same between him and Lucanis. Even if they do get better someday, they can never be the same.

He is never going to be First Talon now. He's actually gone down the ladder, which I don't think he even considered as a possibility, since he figured it was a success or death kind of deal. The man who loves being admired and adored now has to face a future full of disdain and hatred.

He has to watch Lucanis become First Talon. Something he wanted (needed). And worse, something he knows Lucanis doesn't want. He has to watch Lucanis continue to be suffocated under Caterina's grasp and the weight of her expectations until it kills him. He's back to having to watch and wait for Lucanis to die. He was able to justify killing Lucanis in part to prevent this exact fate and now he has even less power to stop it than he did before.

Where do you even go from there?

i would like to know more about lucanis' contract negotiator. i would assume they're not just lucanis' negotiator, but perhaps also illario's and maybe other high ranking crows. it has to be a position with a lot of trust, bcos if you were to be betrayed by someone, a contract negotiator is obviously someone who knows exactly where are you going on a contract. lucanis certainly trust his negotiator a lot, if he offers to lend them to neve and bellara to help them with their jobs. obviously it's an afterthought now, but during lucanis' personal questline i think this would be the person you'd want to watch really closely to check if they are not the one that sold him out to zara. and even if they are trustworthy - i wonder if this negotiator is a retired/disabled crow or someone to that nature, who can't exactly take the contracts themselves anymore, but went through the same rigorous training and is not going to spill the beans about their client's whereabouts under torture. otherwise if this is Just A Dude, that causes a serious security risk to everyone they negotiate for.

Using @thebearmuse's tags as an excuse to yap about my Rook because I don't think this'll come up until I do that 9ish-page comic I wanna do where Viago recruits them and even then this is mostly implied...

They got their back scars from being chased and attacked by someone (or their guard) they stole from that resulted in a really bad fall off a roof and into a pile of crates. They only got away because the person thought hey were dead, but they were discovered and helped by a Dalish craftsman who was in town for trade and was sticking to quieter routes between market days, and that's where they learned a bit of elven words/history/etc besides that scroll they got.

Aster would've still been a kid at that point. The Dalish man who helped probably would've offered to take them back to his clan for a better life but they didn't want to leave Treviso, and probably ran away once they were well enough to move.

They got chased a lot as a kid, Aladdin style, a thief on the streets. Some of those encounters went better than others, though sometimes they went undetected entirely. The scars on their shoulder are from an attack dog, the ones on their arms/legs are probably smaller injuries.

They have a knack for biting off more than they can chew and surviving anyway. And they survived by getting good at climbing/gymnastics/fighting/quick thinking even before joining the Crows, though they needed refinement, and then their magic manifested and they became harder to ignore as another street kid.

When they encountered Viago, he offered them a home, training, security, and an opportunity to serve as a protector of Treviso and its people, in exchange for their service to the Crows...

*annoying xenofiction author voice* I actually don't think the reader inherently derives any benefit from the POV character (of a non-human species) being described with more human terms of anatomy. in fact I think if you aren't using your phrasing to reinforce your worldbuilding or POV it can be just as distracting as the use of more animalistic terms to refer to anthropormophized characters. which isn't to say that either choice of language inherently helps or hurts the reader experience, but how this word choice relates to other facets of the written world can and will

Trying to decide how the dynamic would be after they return to the Crows after killing the gods. Relationships between Talons aren’t forbidden or even really frowned upon. It has happened and will continue to happen. Naturally houses would probably be considered allies. A First Talon and a regular crow, though... I’m trying to decide if there’s any drama to be had there.

and, as a secondary thought: while all of these people came together for a singular purpose with the veilguard (as these things go), we also gotta remember that these people have had full lives outside of the veilguard, and those lives don't stop just because of it. there's more to them than a singular personal quest chain, and is definitely something i want to dig into.
