Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix Recap: Pride Lands (Hakuna Matata)

In order to access the world, you must first clear the Sunlight Storm Gummi Route.

It’s a tunnel through thick, green clouds, with occasional holes letting in golden light from above (with some holes revealing glowing light).

Most of the enemies you’ll encounter here are Nobodies.

Near the end of the Route, your Gummi Ship will fly up into one of the holes that lets sunlight through, and fly in the blue skies above the clouds for a brief “boss” encounter with a single “Hunter” Gummi Heartless that destroys all other onscreen enemies to 1v1 you, and after it’s been dealt with, you’ll be seen out by a handful of Nobodies as the Gummi Ship flies for the exit.

Once you’ve completed the route, the Pride Lands is unlocked.

Upon disembarking, we open with the iconic stampede scene.

However, because all of the lion characters have permanent smiles on their models, we’re completely reliant on their eyes and ears for facial expressions. It’s not as bad as the “live action” movie, since the characters at least have SOME facial expressions, but it does take some getting used to.

Simba is nearly trampled by the Wildebeests (The Lion King), only to be rescued by his father, Mufasa (The Lion King). Mufasa places his son on an outcropping, but is knocked loose by a wildebeest. He climbs back up, where he encounters Scar (The Lion King) and asks for some help back up.

Scar digs his claws into Mufasa’s paws, leans in towards his brother’s ear, and whispers four iconic words:

“Long live the king.”

And then he throws his brother back into the stampede, a horrified Simba screaming as his father dies right in front of him.

Years later, Simba wakes up from his nightmare, right next to a sleeping Timon (The Lion King) and Pumba (The Lion King). Unlike his younger self, he has a fully emotive face.

After checking and seeing that his adoptive parents are still asleep, Simba walks up to the ledge of the grassy outcropping they’re sleeping on and looks over the jungle, and up to the starry sky, where a lion-shaped cloud looks down on him.

The following morning, Sora, Donald, and Goofy beam down from the Gummi Ship, and check out their new looks.

Sora is now a lion cub, Donald a bird of some kind, and Goofy a tortoise.

The trio are excited by their recent transformation, but Sora does find the Gorge to be pretty creepy.

What, with the bubbling green steam vents, and ominous glowing cracks, plus the permanently overcast sky.

Unfortunately, that won’t save them from Shenzi (The Lion King), Banzai (The Lion King), and Ed (The Lion King), who surrounded our heroes while they were reacting to their transformations.

Hundreds of generic Hyenas (The Lion King) also surround them.

“Heartless?” Sora questions.

“I dunno Sora. I get the feeling they might live here!” Goofy observes.

“Don’t mind us! Just passing through,” Donald explains, “We won’t be any trouble.”

Sora affirms Donald’s statement.

“Don’t be silly,” Shenzi replies while she and the other named hyenas circle the trio, “We’d love you to stick around for lunch.”

“That’s not gonna be a problem!” Banzai assures them.

“Gawrsh Sora – I think WE’RE the lunch!” Goofy realizes.

Ed confirms this with his signature cackle, and our Junior Heroes book it!

Or well, they try to, anyway, but Sora trips over his own feet on account of having only been a quadruped for about a minute or two at this point.

Donald and Goofy are cornered as well.

Fortunately, Scar chooses this moment to call the Hyenas away with a roar, forcing them to abandon their meal so as to avoid angering him.

Sora notes that they should probably take advantage of this to get used to their new forms, and Goofy promises to show them a new trick, which he does after the cutscene ends and before you get control of Sora.

For the duration of his visit to the Pride Lands, Sora will be locked into Lion Form. He cannot use his Drive Forms, Summons, Growth Abilities, Movement Abilities, or Action Abilities in this Form. Donald’s and Goofy’s Limits have also been disabled. He can only use his Support Abilities in this new form.

Fortunately, Lion Form has its own built-in abilities to compensate:

Combo Upper: Knocks a target into the air during a combo with the block button.

Aerial Impulse: Tackles and attacks a midair target during a combo with the block button.

Finishing Blast: Deals damage to nearby enemies at the end of a combo with the block button.

Retaliating Smash: When knocked down, quickly regain balance and counterattack with the block button.

Combo Plus: Increases maximum combo by 1 on the ground. Stacks with other Combo Pluses Sora might already have equipped.

Air Combo Plus: Increases maximum combo by 1 in the air. Ditto, but with Air Combo Pluses.

All of the chests in this world are ornate gourds, with the big gourd holding a map of the Savannah.

The overworld theme for this world is called “Adventures in the Savannah”.

While in the Gorge, Sora can talk to Donald and Goofy, and there’s already a Save Point to return to the Gummi Ship if you so wish.

Progressing out of the Gorge leads SDG to the Elephant Graveyard, where they find Nala (The Lion King) cornered by the Heartless.

Sora immediately jumps to her defense, summoning his Keyblade into his mouth, and the battle begins.

The battle theme for this world is “Savannah Pride”.

Introduced in this fight is a new Heartless known as Living Bone (pluralized “Living Bones”). They look like zombified dinosaur fossils and attack with shockwaves and will-o-wisps. When it gives the “Rodeo” Reaction Command, Sora can hop on its back and use the “Grand Cross” Reaction Command to slam it into the ground for big damage. I mention the Living Bones now because you’ll need them as a frame of reference later on.

Once both Living Bones are defeated, Nala thanks SDG for their help, and Sora asks her if she’s seen any other Heartless around.

“Heartless… Is that what they’re called?” Nala asks, “I’m not sure if there are any others…”

Nala explains that she doesn’t usually hunt outside the Pride Lands, with Donald not finding the term familiar.

Sora asks if she’s seen a guy named “Riku”, people in black hoods, or a big bully named “Pete”.

She shakes her head “no”.

Sora figures they might as well check out anyway, but Nala warns him that the Pride Lands are dangerous thanks to Scar and the Hyenas.

“There’s no food left,” she explains, “They’ve driven off the prey. We’re about to starve.”

Sora insists they can handle danger, citing the Heartless they just fought off, while choosing not to mention their encounter with the hyenas.

Nala realizes he has a point, and wonders if he might be just what the Pride Lands needs.

Goofy isn’t quite sure about their odds against Scar and his hyena army, while Donald just wants to know who Scar is.

“He took over when our last king, Mufasa, died,” Nala elaborates.

Sora realizes that this means Scar is her king, and that she’s basically asking them to commit regicide. As they’ve only JUST met her, Sora decides to deliberate with Donald and Goofy before they make any impulsive decisions.

“We can’t just go around knocking kings off their thrones,” Sora points out, actually raising a valid point, but because he’s still a teenage boy: “But then again, if they see that I’m stronger than their king, maybe they’ll ask me to be their next king!”

“Sora…” Goofy remarks.

“I’d have to refuse, of course,” Sora quickly backpedals, “Still, I’d like to see the Pride Lands, so you guys don’t mind lending them a paw, do you?”

Thus, our heroes are now in recon mode.

“Uh oh, there he goes again,” Donald remarks as Sora runs back to Nala.

We don’t hear what they say, but Nala runs off, and Sora explains that she’s going to explain what’s going on to the other lionesses, while SDG are supposed to meet up with her at Pride Rock.

Also, Goofy wears his shield on the back of his shell, and Donald carries his staff in his talons. Adding further comedy, Goofy’s “running” animation consists of him withdrawing into his shell and spinning like a Beyblade.

But back on topic, you need to progress the rest of the way through the Elephant Graveyard to reach the Savannah.

This barren wasteland serves as the Central Hub. Just run across the dried ground, past the dead tree, and cutting through any Heartless you meet in order to get to Pride Rock.

Aside from the exit back to the Elphant Graveyard, the map shows two more exits. One of those is blocked off at the moment, so you have to continue on to Pride Rock.

Don’t worry, it’s a big and obvious landmark. You can’t miss it.

Upon arrival, we see the Lionesses (The Lion King) all lazing about in various states of despair. Nala takes Rafiki (The Lion King) to meet with our Junior Heroes.

“That’s him,” Nala explains.

Rafiki quietly inspects first Sora, then Goofy, and finally Donald, and the despondent lionesses open their eyes and look over at the newcomers, perhaps wondering if he’ll be the one to dethrone Scar and become the new king.

Rafiki whispers into Nala’s ear, shakes his head, and walks off as Nala hangs her head.

The lionesses go back to laying down.

Nala explains that she had told Rafiki that Sora might be able to force Scar and the hyenas out of the Pride Lands, but Rafiki just told her it wouldn’t work.

Whoever saves the Pride Lands will be their next king, but whoever he is will need certain qualities.

“Meaning…” Sora presses.

“I think she means you’re not cut out for the job, Sora,” Goofy observes.

Nala apologizes for bringing them all the way here for nothing, but Sora insists its fine.

She warns them to leave before Scar finds out they’re here,

You now have control of Sora again, and can talk to the various lionesses walking around for some set-dressing.

There are also gourds to open, including a big one that holds a map of Pride Rock.

You can’t go inside Pride Rock’s den yet, however, and thus your only option is to try and go back to the Savannah.

Unfortunately, Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed will block your way out, with a bunch of nameless hyenas approaching SDG from behind to surround them.

The hyenas are still hungry, and are very eager at getting a second chance at eating our Junior Heroes.

However, a roar from the king, Scar, convinces them to wait a little. Savor the chance.

He stands alongside another lion, a lion with Pete’s face.

Sora recognizes him immediately.

Scar effortlessly bounds down the rocks to stand before our Junior Heroes.

Pete tries to do the same, but stumbles to the ground from his perch, landing painfully, much to Sora’s exasperation and second-hand embarrassment.

“What are you doing here?” Sora questions aggressively.

“Aww, the cute li’l kitty’s worried about me,” Pete taunts, “If I were you, I’d be more worried about my friends!”

“Sora!” Donald calls out.

“We’re surrounded!” Goofy shouts as the hyenas close in around the duo.

“Go on ladies–” Scar addresses to the lionesses, “You’ve got some hunting to do.”

“The herds have moved on, Scar,” Nala reminds him, “We can’t hunt on a land with no prey.”

“No prey?” Scar questions, “Then what do you call this?”

He motions towards Sora, Donald, and Goofy.

Sora protests that they’re not prey, but Scar just comments on how they’re “nice and fresh” too.

“Well, they’re all yours, Scar,” Pete declares, before running off.

Nala, having had enough of Scar’s nonsense, tackles Scar mid-pounce, and urges the others to run.

SDG take advantage of the momentary distraction to bolt, the hyenas giving chase after them.

Fortunately, Nala is faster, and she leads them to safety.

Back at the Savannah, Nala again apologizes for involving them, this time in a textbox.

Sora insists it’s no big deal, while Donald insists it’s not her fault Sora wouldn’t make for a good king.

“Hey! I had to give it a try, right?” Sora defends.

“So you DID want to be king!” Goofy says.

“Well… You know…” Sora trails off.

Deciding to change the topic, he asks Nala if she has any ideas for who else could be king.

She can think of only one candidate, the son of their last king, but he died when he was just a cub.

“If only Simba were still alive…”

Sora then reveals that he IS still alive. They fought alongside him not that long ago.

Nala is thrilled to know Simba’s still alive, and asks where he is.

Sora reveals he doesn’t know, but Nala’s just happy he’s still alive, and asks to know more about what he’s like NOW.

After they’re safe from Scar, of course, so they should head to the Wildebeest Valley.

Wildebeest Valley is accessible via the third and final exit from the Savannah.

You have a map, and it lacks both the extremely marketable silhouette of Pride Rock AND the ominous elephant ribcages from the Elephant Graveyard.

As it’s also one of only THREE recognizable landmarks on the Savannah, its more generic design of “path between two massive plateaus” isn’t an obstacle to locating it.

Upon entering the Wildebeest Valley, another Simba-focused cutscene begins, showing him moping by the waterfall.

“Hey, why the long face, Simba?” Timone asks, “You gotta lighten up and live a little!”

“Y-yeah…” Simba half-heartedly replies.

“What were you thinkin’ about?” Pumbaa asks.

“Lemme guess. The past, right?” Timone guesses.

Simba wordlessly confirms it.

“Hakuna matata!” They both cheerfully remind him.

It does get Simba to crack a smile, if only briefly, but he also gets up and trudges off.

Timone reflects on how much he’s grown since they first adopted him.

Simba trudges up to the flowers on the outcropping, sighs, and flops down, sending various leaves, blades of grass, and flower petals blowing away on the wind.

Meanwhile, at the Wildebeest Valley, our Junior Heroes come across a rather intimidating gorge, with jagged rocks at the bottom.

Nala, not the least bit intimidated, gives herself a running start and leaps the ravine, wowing Sora.

She urges them to follow, but Sora replies that they won’t make the jump.

Nala realizes that Rafiki was right, and then tells Sora that she’ll teach him how to do it.

“Don’t worry, you can do it!” she encourages.

Fade to black.

When we cut back Sora jumps the gorge successfully, joining Nala, Donald, and Goofy on the other side.

This unlocks Dash, an Action Ability for Lion Form. It allows Sora to move more quickly when the player holds down the Block/Dodge Roll button, replacing all of Sora’s Growth Abilities.

If Sora tries to turn while using this ability, well… To quote KHWiki: “Attempting to turn while dashing will cause Sora to slide until he decides to stop turning or dashing, which will cause him to skid and bounce, slowing him down immediately.”

This will GREATLY cut down on travel time.

The Wildebeest Valley is designed to let you get the handle of the Dash ability, with rocks for you to bob and weave between, and plenty of Heartless to let you get the handle on how this ability works in combat. You can even run around the area where Simba found his dad’s corpse in the movie, right at the end of the room.

Progressing to the next area has the petals, grass blades, and leaves reach Rafiki’s “Stone Hollow”. This cutscene mostly just reuses archived audio of Rafiki’s jubilation from the movie (minus the music, instead using the Pride Land’s overworld theme), but does still feature Rafiki painting a mane onto Simba’s cave painting.

Meanwhile, in the Wastelands, Nala explains how Simba was reported dead in the same stampede that took Mufasa’s life.

“Who told you that?” Sora asks.

Nala stops walking. Even with her facial features not animating beyond jaw-flaps in this cutscene, you can STILL see her connecting the dots before her next line:

“Scar.”

Rafiki walks up behind our quartet, climbs up a slope, and stands atop a stone.

“It is time,” he declares via archived audio from the movie, before pointing his staff ahead.

“It must be Simba!” Nala realizes, before rushing ahead, “Sora, hurry!”

“Wait up!” Sora calls after her.

The Wastelands are basically a winding path with a few puzzle pieces to pick up and gourds to open.

They’re not considered part of the Savannah, so you don’t have a map at the moment.

The Wastelands lead into the Jungle, where Sora will encounter Shaman. They’re Emblem Heartless that sometimes ride Living Bones.

They can also use magic.

They have a 1% chance of dropping the “Shaman’s Relic” a Staff for Donald. It grants +4 Strength and +5 Magic, as well as the Blizzard Boost ability.

Upon passing through the Jungle, SDG arrive at the Oasis, where Simba has been surrounded by Heartless.

Before Sora can so much as summon his Keyblade, Simba lets out a mighty roar that intimidates all of them into fleeing through Corridors of Darkness.

“Simba!” Sora greets, running up to Simba while Donald and Goofy follow close behind.

Simba falls back into his fighting stance, hackles raised.

“I-it’s me – Sora!” Sora explains as he slides to a stop, “Donald and Goofy are here too.”

Simba calmly-yet-cautiously approaches the trio, looking them over.

We cut to his POV, where we see a cut from the present to their forms in KH1.

“Sora! Donald! Goofy!”

He excitedly bowls over Sora and nuzzles him as cats are wont to do, but is still kinda curious as to why Sora’s changed species. (Reminder: The most drastic transformation Simba can witness in KH1 is the Halloween Town forms. He has NEVER seen SDG undergo such DRASTIC transformations.)

The explanation is interrupted by Timon and Pumbaa’s panicked screams for help, calling out that “she” is going to eat them.

Simba realizes something must’ve happened in the jungle, and tells Sora he has to go help his friends, before dashing off to rescue them.

Sora promises to back him up.

The Oasis is one of those areas where Donald and Goofy become NPC’s you can talk to (until you progress the story).

There are some gourds you can open. One of the big ones holds a map, while the other holds the next Torn Page.

There’s also a Save Point, and Kumop’s Moogle Shop (Adds the “Lord’s Broom” staff and “Dreamcloud” shield to the large town shops’ inventories).

Returning to the jungle reveals a terrified Timon and Pumbaa have been cornered by Nala, who’s stalking closer and closer, only to get tackled by Simba before she can pounce.

Sora tries to break up the resulting fight, but it’s not until Nala pins Simba down that the two of them finally recognize each other.

“Hey! What’s going on here?” Timon asks, before he and Pumbaa turn around to see Sora standing directly behind him.

The two, understandably, scream in terror and run to Simba for protection.

“Don’t worry, they’re all friends of mine,” Simba explains.

“So that means… nobody’s planning to eat anybody else for lunch, right?” Timon questions.

Sora and Donald nod.

“Are you sure they don’t wanna eat me like I’m some kinda pig!?” a cowering Pumbaa asks.

“We won’t…” Sora promises, “but you are a pig, right?”

“Call me Mr. Pig!” Pumbaa snaps, all fear forgotten.

And everyone laughs.

After the laughter dies down, Simba asks if the others could excuse him and Nala for a bit.

Back in the Oasis, Nala tells Simba he needs to come back to Pride Rock.

“I thought Sora could help,” she explains, “but you’re the only one who can save us from Scar.”

Simba insists that he can’t go back.

When Nala asks why, the only answer he gives her is “hakuna matata”.

“It’s something I learned out here,” he explains, “Sometimes bad things happen, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Simba walks over to look at the view of the waterfalls, as Nala wonders what the heck happened.

Meanwhile, Timon, Pumbaa, Sora, Donald, and Goofy are doing the dance for “Hakuna Matata”.

However, as Square Enix could not secure the rights to include the song in the game, all we get is Timon saying “Hakuna!” followed by everyone else shouting “Matata!” as they march behind him.

Nala walks past them.

“He’s not the Simba I remember,” she remarks, “Something about hakuna matata…”

In order to progress the story, you must approach Simba and use the “Cheer Up” Reaction Command.

Using this Reaction Command prompts a cutscene where Sora, Donald, and Goofy say nothing as Simba walks right past them and out of the oasis.

Come nightfall, and he stares up at the starry sky, completely alone.

“My father’s dead,” he says to himself, “And it’s because of me… It’s my fault.

“I can’t go back… It won’t change anything.”

Cue flashback to Simba’s childhood, perched on his father’s back as they admired the stars together.

“Look at the stars,” Mufasa tells him, “The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you…

“And so will I.”

I forgot to mention this before, but all of Mufasa’s dialog uses archived audio of James Earl Jones, taken straight from the movie.

“Father… Are you there?”

Swirling clouds appear in the night sky, and Mufasa’s spirit manifests among them.

“Simba… you have forgotten who you are. You must take your place in the Circle of Life.”

“How can I go back? I’m not who I used to be.”

“Remember who you are.”

Mufasa disappears as Simba runs up to try and get closer, stopping at the cliff’s edge.

“You can all come out now,” Simba states.

Sora, Donald, Goofy, Timon, and Pumbaa come out of their hiding places among the foliage.

“I’m going back to face my past,” Simba declares, “I could use your help.”

“He really is a king…” Timon notes, his voice swelling with pride.

The sun rises behind Simba.

Sora earns the “Circle of Life” Keychain.

This Keyblade grants him +4 Strength, +1 Magic, and the MP Haste Ability (restores restoration rate of MP Gauge in MP Charge by 25%).

Additionally…

SIMBA HAS JOINED THE PARTY!!!

Simba’s weapon is “Proud Fang”, due to the fact that he fights unarmed. He’s a lion, after all.

His Action Abilities are as follows:

Body Blow: Charges at an enemy, headbutts it, and quickly retreats.

Double Body Blow: Charges directly at an enemy with his head thrust forward.

Kick Up: Runs up to an enemy and kicks it while somersaulting backwards.

Aerial Punch: Attacks with a swing of his left paw immediately after jumping.

Fierce Claw: Spends 10 MP to rush at enemies 8 times successively while spinning sideways at high speed.

Groundshaker: Spends 10 MP to attack surrounding enemies with an earth-shaking roar.

Healing Herb: Restores Party’s HP with the power of nature at the cost of all of his MP.

He also has the following Support Abilities (descriptions taken straight from KHWiki):

MP Rage: Restores MP relative to the amount of damage taken. Equip more to increase the effect.

Defender: Increases defense by 3 in a pinch. Equip more to increase the effect.

Auto Limit: Automatically sets the Reaction Command to Limit, if Limit is usable.

Hyper Healing: Quickly revives a fallen Party Member and greatly restores their HP.

Auto Healing: Restores HP while replaced by another Party Member with Change.

Speaking of, his Limit is “King’s Pride”.

The Limit starts with the “Wildcat” Reaction Command, which prompts Sora and Simba to leap forward as rocks burst out of the ground around them, damaging any surrounding enemies.

This leads to the Attack Command becoming “X-Claw” (Sora and Simba dash towards enemies and slash furiously) and gives the prompt for the “High Fang” Reaction Command (Sora and Simba spin through the air towards enemies). After 20 cumulative uses of both, both commands become “Proud Roar”, which finishes the Reaction Command with Sora and Simba letting out a mighty roar that calls down beams of light.

Simba cannot be removed from the party for the time being.

In order to continue the story, you must head back to the Savannah.

Upon arrival, Simba sees what Scar’s rule has done to the Pride Lands for the first time in his life.

Timon is shocked that Simba wants to fight his uncle for this arid wasteland, but Simba explains that the Pride Lands are his home.

At Pride Rock, the lionesses are all still depression-napping, while Scar is looking over his domain. He then looks up, sees Simba standing on higher ground, and gasps in shock.

Scar is shocked to see he’s still alive, and Simba starts telling him off, with Nala calling him the rightful king as Sora, Donald, and Goofy silently give moral support.

“The choice is yours, Scar,” Simba warns as he approaches the cornered tyrant, “Either step down or fight.”

“Must this all end in violence?” Scar questions as he slinks past Simba, “I’d hate to be responsible for the death of a family member, Simba…”

“I’ve put the past behind me!” Simba insists.

“But what about your faithful subjects?” Scar presses, “Have they?”

“Simba, what is he talking about?” Nala asks.

“Go on,” Scar urges as he creeps around Simba, “Tell them who’s responsible for Mufasa’s death.”

“I am,” Simba confesses.

Nala gasps, and Scar proceeds to back Simba up against the edge of Pride Rock, guilt-tripping him, insisting Mufasa would still be alive if it wasn’t for him, not caring that Simba insists it was an accident.

“You’re in trouble again. But this time, Daddy isn’t here to save you,” Scar taunts, “And now, everyone knows why.”

Simba’s hindlegs go over the edge, forcing him to latch onto Pride Rock with his forelegs’ claws.

Upon seeing Simba’s very familiar predicament, Scar can’t help but gloat to him about how this just like how Mufasa died.

He digs his claws in and leans in to whisper the truth to Simba, wishing to twist the knife one more time before throwing his nephew to his death:

“I killed Mufasa.”

Whereas revealing his true intentions to Mufasa shocked him long enough to allow him to kill him, here it only ENRAGES Simba enough that he’s able to pull himself up, tackle Scar to the ground, and force him to confess the truth.

Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed come out of the King’s den to hyena-pile Simba, allowing Scar to slink away like the coward he is.

Sora runs in, insisting that Simba handles Scar while they handle the hyenas.

Simba gives chase to his treacherous uncle, while more hyenas close in on Sora.

Fortunately, Timon and Pumbaa swoop in with the save, Timon directing Pumbaa to charge through the nameless hyenas.

Unfortunately, this leads into the entire pack deciding to go after the two prey animals instead, chasing Simba’s adoptive parents into the King’s Den.

Simba has been removed from the party for now.

In order to begin the boss fight, the player must enter the King’s Den.

Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed require the player to defend Timon and Pumbaa.

If Pumbaa’s HP runs out, it’s an automatic game over.

Stick close to Pumbaa, use the “Call Over” Reaction Command to get him closer to you if he gets too far away, and don’t focus on any one hyena for two long.

Defeating all three earns Sora +5 Max HP, Donald +3 Max HP, and Goofy Lucky Lucky! (increases enemies’ base drop rates, stacking with other Lucky Luckies).

After the Hyenas flee, Sora asks where Simba went, and Nala motions towards an exit in the back of the King’s Den, which leads to the top of Pride Rock.

In order to begin this world’s final boss fight, the player must progress that way.

Sora, Donald, and Goofy arrive in time to watch the two clash, with Sora stopping Donald from intervening.

In the end, this is Simba’s fight, and for his claim to the throne to have any legitimacy, he has to do this alone.

Scar eventually manages to down Simba, and pounces to try and finish him off.

Simba merely counterattacks by kicking him clear off the edge of Pride Rock, sending him plummeting to his apparent demise.

“You’re okay!” Sora declares.

“Aw, that was just a sneak preview!” Pete declares as he walks up behind the group, “Cause this ain’t over – not by a long shot!”

He points at the cliff Scar was just thrown off of, and the boss music kicks in as Scar’s paw grips the edge of the cliff, having already climbed back up the mountain.

“Anger and jealousy turned the king of Pride Rock into a Heartless!” Pete reveals.

Scar, either having recently become a Heartless or secretly been one the entire time, pulls himself back onto the rock as Pete continues gloating:

“Oh your kingdom’s gonna rise again… But this time, as the Pride Lands of Darkness!”

Scar jumps back onto solid ground and envelops the area in his darkness.

“That’s what you think!” Simba retorts as he gears up for a rematch.

Simba has rejoined the party, and must remain in the party for the duration of the boss battle.

The ground has turned translucent, revealing the fossilized bones preserved inside the solid rock.

Scar can attack with circling balls of lightning, shockwaves of fire when he pounces, and emitting dark energy while stampeding around the place.

When he pins Sora to the ground, Sora can use the “Counter” Reaction Command right as Scar’s about to swipe his paw to break free and stagger him.

While Scar IS a Heartless, he still looks like his normal self, WITHOUT having to possess someone else.

Upon defeating Scar, Sora gains +10 Max MP, Donald gains Fire Boost, Goofy gains +4 Max HP, and Simba gains +30 Max HP.

Scar staggers for a bit, before finally keeling over, his reign of terror OVER.

After the battle, Simba marches to the front of Pride Rock, and lets out a mighty roar, the lionesses joining him.

The swirling clouds appear again, as Mufasa’s spirit materializes once more, revealing this world’s Gate.

Sora opens it, holding the Keyblade with his tail when doing so.

Timon asks about the light show, and Sora replies that they have to say goodbye for now.

“I’ll go tell Simba,” Pumbaa offers.

“Aw, he’s prob’ly busy,” Goofy observes, “Just tell him we’ll be back soon.”

That reminds Timon that Simba’s the king now.

“He’s going to be so busy now that he’s probably going to forget his two best buddies.”

“Well, you always got hakuna matata, right?” Sora points out.

“Guess so,” Pumbaa notes.

Timon isn’t satisfied with that answer, and asks what they’ll do if he forgets to tell the carnivores who they are.

“One look at you, and you’re a pig roast!” Timon points out.

“That’s MISTER Pig Roast!” Donald chimes in.

“Same thing!” Pumbaa shouts, “And I’m not sticking around to become anyone’s pork dinner!”

The warthog cartoonishly flees the scene as Timon calls after him.

“You can never forget your true buddies,” Sora remarks.

Defeating Scar earns Sora the Fire Element, upgrading Fire to Fira.

Back on the world map, a new episode was unlocked at Olympus Coliseum, AND we’ve got a Torn Page to return to the Hundred Acre Wood.

Which do you think we should take care of first?

See now I just have the entire soundtrack stuck in my head. Also I had to look up some of the images for this. Living Bone looks dope as fuck! Lion!Pete is cursed tho

his two best friends are so protagonist coded and he's just part of this entire thing because he Just Happened To Be The Closest Genuinely Nice Person Around™ - Riku has white fuckin hair, is really buff at the age of 15 and he's the one that wanted to leave destiny islands the most because he's not content with living peacefully, he wants To Know Whats Out There, he's literally the protagonist of some edgy anime. and then KAIRI is a girl who FELL FROM THE SKY LIKE A SHOOTING STAR, was adopted by THE FUCKING MAYOR???? OF THEIR CITY??? and has amnesia. AND THEN SHE FINDS OUT SHES A PRINCESS OF THE HEART, VITAL TO THE STABILITY OF THE UNIVERSE

then a few games later, you find out that Riku and Kairi both inherited keyblades from actual veterans when they were BABIES. LIKE THEY REALLY ARE CHOSEN ONES, WHETHER ACCIDENTAL OR NOT and Sora is just the uber driver for the heart of a Really Important Guy????

and then you gotta take into consideration that Riku was literally just adopted by King Fucking Mickey and possibly trained with him. Kairi had Lea to train in a POCKET DIMENSION WHERE THEY HAD ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD WITH MASTER YENSID'S MAGIC AND SHIT

meanwhile, Sora literally got out of bed one night and left to find his pals and never fucking stopped to question what the actual shit was happening to him, he only has Donald and Goofy who Cant Fucking Offer Anything Of Substance except being decent parental figures for this random ass kid

no wonder sora flunked the mark of mastery exam, he's literally had ZERO proper training (no we're not counting the coliseum, they didn't teach sora anything that he didn't already know) so he pulls every stunt and every move out of his ass ON THE GO. sure, his mark of mastery exam was rigged but look at me. if TERRA couldnt do it because he showed the SLIGHTEST SLIVER of evil purple fart (and even he was doomed to fail bc of Xehanorts manipulation) DO WE REALLY THINK SORA COULDVE DONE IT??

this is sora kingdom hearts, he can't work a fucking cellphone. he's the nicest person you'll ever meet. he's had his brain, heart, soul and body rearranged a couple times. he ocasionally chills out with winnie the pooh. he keeps losing his powers at the start of every goddamn game and has to relearn everything. he's, essentially, Mickey Mouse's humansona. his Nobody Roxas, A GUY IN A CULT THAT CASUALLY KILLS OFF THEIR MEMBERS, had more integrity and input in the short year he was alive for than Sora ever did in the entire saga. he rewrote an entire timeline and died for it. he watched Sully from monsters inc send his evil goth pseudo-twin into texas.

So I just went marshmallow toasting for the first time since pre-pandemic, and now I feel like writing KH marshmallow headcanons. Enjoy.

(Also, I'm writing these with the assumption Sora and Strelitzia return to the KH universe at some point)

Sora, Kairi and Riku are the ones hosting the bonfire. They used to go to bonfires with their parents as kids, so it's nice to reconnect with a (mostly) untroubled childhood after All The Bullshit(tm) of the past few years

Kairi's adopted mother makes homemade marshmallows, but there are gonna be a LOT of people, so she takes commercial ones. She does however have a small container of homemade ones that there is a very slim chance she'll share

Riku does most of the bonfire-building. It gives him a few flashbacks which in turn give him a lot to reflect on. This boy overthinks a lot and he needs a hug

Sora tries to start the bonfire with Fira. This is not a good idea

Terra and Aqua are subsequently on the "if this all goes horribly wrong, we can put out the fire" squad

Donald insists he is also part of that squad, but no one pays him any mind, and he performs no duties to the effect

Sora also sits way too close to the fire; his marshmallow isn't the only thing getting lightly toasted

Terra and Aqua end up wearing half their armour just so their clothes don't catch fire

Ventus has to toast with one hand and hold Chirithy in the other. Eventually, he just holds Chirithy in both hands and Chirithy toasts the marshmallows for both of them

Roxas and Xion literally have four years of life experience between them, they have NEVER toasted marshmallows before. Isa hasn't since he was a teenager in RG. Lea used to use his fire magic while in the Organization, but it wasn't nearly the same, so he stopped

Roxas accidentally sets his marshmallow on fire, and tries not to be visibly upset as it melts into the coals

Lea purposefully sets his marshmallow on fire, and barely manages to rescue it from melting into the coals before eating the charred remains

Isa gets his marshmallow perfectly toasted first try, and gives it to Roxas

Xion tries to copy Isa and also sets her marshmallow on fire. Isa gives her one too

Mickey tries to be a good instructor on the best marshmallow toasting, but to little avail

Namine is NOT appropriately dressed for this AT ALL. Like girl, I know the white dress is your thing, but just because there's a FIRE doesn't mean it isn't COLD. She ends up with someone's coat soon enough, and is absolutely swamped in it

The RG guys have been meaning to take Ienzo camping since they adopted him, but never got the chance. They are ABSOLUTELY making up for it now

Ienzo has to remind them the while yes, he's never done this before, he IS in his twenties and a scientist to boot; he can figure out how to toast a marshmallow on his own

Ansem then spends the rest of the night discussing Dad-of-a-Young-Adult Feels with Goofy

(Let Max out of the basement, Disney)

Even's marshmallow stick is like 2m long; this man is going NOWHERE NEAR the fire, but he still wants his marshmallow toasted, dagnabit

Aeleus, the team dad (change my mind), teaches all the kids to make s'mores. He is equally encouraging whether you can make one better than he can or can barely hold yours together

Dilan is put in charge of raking the coals, but gets too enthusiastic about it to the point it's intolerable to be near them for a few minutes

Hayner is the one that starts the spooky stories

Pence has the most spooky stories

Olette acts spooked even though she's heard them all before

Elrena has to be reminded that there's a difference between spooky and gruesome

Lauriam is simultaneously proud, a little sad, and concerned that Strelitzia doesn't have to turn to him for comfort through the spooky stories

Demyx provides sound effects to the spooky stories, which actually make them spookier. When they get too spooky and they have to stop, he has a whole repertoire of campfire songs to bring up the mood. They don't last long either, but longer than anyone expected

Trans Kairi

16 year old Kairi was on her home at Destiny Islands. She was watching Sora and Riku duke it out at their usual battle spot. They had just got done with another adventure. Surely more were to come so they were enjoying their vacation. Donald and Goofy were at Disney Castle and Mickey was doing his Kingly duties. With all the worlds traveling and meeting colorful characters Kairi had a very interesting life. What most didn't know was that it started out very different. Until she was 6 years old she was seen as a boy. Kairi spent her early childhood confused and sad. She always had a close relationship with her grandpa. Her parents died when she was barely a toddler and never got any memories of them. So she lived with her grandma instead. One day a talk with her changed her life.

“Grandma. Are you mad at me for wearing moms dress?” Her grandma stroked her hair.

“Of course not dear.”

“I wanna wear dresses all the time.”

“Dresses are for girls, sweetie.” Kairi put her hands to her grandmas ears and whispered.

“I am a girl.”

“You're are?” Grandma asked. “Kairi nodded.

“I had some dreams where these people with big keys. I told them I'm a girl and they said I Am. They said I can be a girl because I have a girls heart. Kingdom Hearts said so!” Kairis Grandma knew she told the child many stories. She told her stories about light and darkness. She wondered if Kairis dreams were connected.

“You believe I'm a girl don't you, Grandma?”

“Of course I do. We'll need to tell your everyone you're a girl too.” Kairis Grandma explained the situation to everyone they knew. While some were neutral at first they saw Kairi as a girl later on. Kairis Grandma bought her a white and pink dress with a flower design on it and matching shoes. She also gave her a necklace.

“This necklace is very old like me, Kairi. Your mom wore it when she was young and so did I and my mother too. You need to take good are of it.

“Okay, Grandma. Thank you for believing I'm girl.” She hugged her grandma who hugged her back.

Kairi would later meet Aqua who put a charm on the necklace to help her. After Radiant Garden was consumed by darkness Kairi was sent to Destiny Islands. She was adopted by the Mayor soon afterword. She had no memories of her past. Because of this she didn't remember her life as a boy or her transition. She knew she wasn't a genetic girl due to her body but did know in her heart she was a girl. She made friends with Sora and Riku where they grew up. When Kairi was 14 she told them the truth.

“Sora. Riku. There's something I need to tell you. A secret. A secret I haven't even told Selphie.” The boys got silent as they knew Kairi and Selphie told many secrets to each other. “I'm trans.”

“You mean as in born in the wrong body?” Sora asked.

“Yes. I was born a boy. Though I have no memory of it. My only reminder is what's between my legs. But I know I'm a girl. Something in my heart told me so.”

“Hey. When we meet you a few years ago we met a girl named Kairi. In my eyes you're still Kairi.” Riku said.

“Same goes for me. I have to say you certainly look like a girl.” Kairi laughed.

“Luckily before puberty I was given blockers and now I'm given pills that let me develop like a girl.

“Then I guess when we set sail and find your old home some of the people who knew you as a boy will be shocked.” Riku said.

They never left the island on the raft. After that faithful night everything went crazy. Kairi went to multiple worlds, met many new people, and helped save the universe. Not many teen girls get to say that. She was also a Princess of Heart.

“You're a Princess of Heart, Kairi.” Aqua said. “Being a Princess is proof that even the universe knows you're a girl.” Kairi smiled at this.

Kairi also knew Namine was like her. That would make sense as she was Kairi's Nobody.

“It's nice to have someone like me around.” Kairi said. “Even though you kind of are me.” Namine giggled.

“Yes. It's good knowing we have each other.”

“Were you like me? Did you find out you were a girl too?”

“Well, not exactly. I was created already living as a girl. Though it's as if I had memories as a boy before even though I didn't exist before that.”

“Does Roxas know?”

“Yes. He's fine with it. He's quite a handsome one. I can see why you like Sora.” Kairi blushed.

“We-we're dating now actually.”

“He's okay dating someone like you?”

“He's known that I'm trans for a couple years now. He says as long as I see myself as Kairi than I am Kairi to him.” Namine nodded.

The only thing that really bothered Kairi was that she didn't know where her grandma was. She didn't know if she was alive somewhere or not. She wants to show her that she grew up into a young lady. When making a trip to Radient Garden Kairi would get the chance. She knocked on her old door and waited. An elderly lady answered. She smiled when she saw who was in front of her.

“Kairi.” She said.

“Hi Grandma. I missed you.”

“I missed you too. And look at you. You're so beautiful. You were right. You are a girl in your heart.”

“I love you, Grandma.”

“And I love you.”

idk what this refers to specifically so instead i’ll just talk about family-adjacent ideas

luxord, xigbar, and demyx radiate the BIGGEST amounts of uncle energy towards roxas i can’t deny this any longer. on that note too axel is positively roxas and xion’s older brother.

demyx and larxene were definitely siblings in another life- i dont mean their IMMEDIATE past lives but somewhere in space and time they definitely were. demyx just wants to use his big speaker while he plays his sitar but larxene always threatens to overpower it with electricity and blow it up.

aqua, terra, and ven ?? 1000% found family they’re all siblings and master eraqus gets three kids all for the price of getting stabbed but it’s fine he doesn’t know that part yet. terra and aqua were in the middle of training and then got a free baby brother on their doorstep. Yes He Does Have A Mental Breakdown Two Seconds Into Knowing Them But They Work It Out. vanitas wishes he could be a part of their little family but he’d rather choke than admit it and he probably will.

ansem the wise definitely adopted all his apprentices idk how to tell you otherwise. he’s got jaded grandpa energy. as an extension vexen/even plays a big brother role in zexion/ienzo’s life. dude was definitely left to take care of him the most when ienzo was a kid and he just happened to adopt him in the process ig. lexeaus/aeleus is a very close second to Ansem Staff Members That Are Really Close To Ienzo

riku’s been forced to have three parental figures and he only wants the mouse. he could really do without the 7′5 villains he’s sick of them actually. as for riku’s actual family they’re all regular people- definitely comes from a family of fishers.

goofy has a son back home so it’s no surprise whatsoever that sora basically becomes another son to him, dude’s just Naturally a dad. donald is moreso his punkass uncle who can be irritating most of the time but you know he really does care if given even the smallest opportunity to show it: he’s got three bonkers nephews it’s only right.

a list of my favorite kingdom hearts x disney headcanons:

1. no one questions why sora is traveling with an anthropomorphic duck and dog bc donald’s magic disguises them as human. they all see donald as a very short man and goofy as a very tall man. some people (like the keyblade wielders) can see through it they just don’t care. what you’re seeing in places like atlantica, the duck/octopus hybrid and the dog/turtle hybrid, is only half of their magic. the other half completes the transformation, so ariel and co. just see a disney-ified octopus and turtle. this is also why no one questions why ven is mouse-sized. they just see him as a mouse.

2. after the events of reverse/rebirth, mickey illegally adopted riku. one day he gets home to disney castle and he’s like “hi minnie the love of my life i love what you did with your hair oh by the way i adopted a child this is our new son riku.” and at first minnie is like “what.” but then she’s immediately ride or die for this random goblin child that mickey just picked up somewhere. the only perk this gives to riku is the fact that he can now use mickey and minnie’s names, not just their titles. at one point riku accidentally calls mickey “dad.” he’s mortified, but mickey is super touched and also never lets him live it down.

3. the reason why rikus hair looks so ragged in DDD is because he tried to use his keyblade to cut it like mulan and it obviously did not work. he was gonna get it touched up professionally but then he was called for the mark of mastery exam and so he had to put it off.

i had a dream the other night that there was a kingdom hearts disney xd show that was basically just a nonsense-of-the-week roommates au where sora riku and kairi got a house together and shenanigans ensue. there was one episode where maleficent showed up at the door like “i don’t wanna be evil anymore i wanna make friends” so they kept trying things to make her more non-threatening but nothing worked until they got her into pop music via kate bush and were like “here’s something not scary that you can use to bond with people” and now i want this show more than anything

I have a whole bunch about a whole lot of different things! Some are specific to MD, others are just general HCs that I'm operating under for my series. In no particular order:

-Riku has never once won a game of Hide and Seek when Sora is seeker

-Even met his wife Martha during his years at University, because she worked in the school library for credits and he practically lived there.

-Even and Aeleus have been friends the longest out of all of the original six apprentices.

-Dilan and Aeleus are the second longest friends

-Ienzo's parents passed away in an accident when he was 5, and after being taken in as a Ward of the Crown by Ansem, ended up being (unofficially) adopted by Even and Martha.

-Ansem The Wise is legitimately a King and part of the Radiant Garden Royal Family. Or, well, what's left of it anyway.

-Kairi and her grandmother are ALSO part of the Royal Family, albeit a cadet branch, not the main line. Ansem is Kairi's Grandmother's nephew, and Kairi's uncle.

-Despite not being from the Main line, since Ansem has no heirs and Ienzo, being merely a ward, is not eligible for succession, Kairi is next in line and Crown Princess

-(though at this point Radiant Garden is probably better off with the Committee lol)

-Demyx is super observant and Recon is the only mission type he doesn't completely slack on, hence why it's the only mission type he gets solo

-Larxene does yoga

-Luxord Knows All(TM)

-Max (Goofy's son) exists! He's a young adult and works in Disney Castle as a part of the Guard and part times as a field researcher

-Donald (in direct opposition to his usual AI in game) is an accomplished medic and highly skilled. Likewise, he's a very good magic researcher

- When Marluxia couldn't find time to raid worlds for clothes for Naminé, he sent some Dusks. Whatever they brought back went into Naminé's "No Effort" drawer lmao.

A Beautiful Future: A Premonition or a Punishment? (SoKai Week 2021)

Greetings readers and fellow SoKai fans! It is I, the Mad Doctor, participating in SoKai Week for the second year running. This year, I have a special multichapter story that will be posted throughout the week. It’s going to be quite an emotional rollercoaster that I hope you all enjoy!

Chapter 1: Two Hearts Become One

Radiant Garden

Dressed in an elegant white suit with golden highlights, Sora gazed over Mickey’s head at the long aisle ahead of him. It was going to be quite a walk. But it was going to be one worth taking given what was going to happen at the end.

Just then, music filled the air and Mickey began his walk. Once the mouse king was far enough ahead, Sora followed after him. ‘Okay. Here it goes. No pressure. It’s only the happiest day of Kairi’s and my life.’

As he walked, Sora took in his surroundings and marveled at how different the setting was from when, on occasion, he would picture his wedding day. ‘If the Keyblade had never come to me and I had never got caught up in my adventures, we probably would’ve been getting married in a simple beachside ceremony on the Islands with just family and friends from there. I never thought it would be in another world. Especially in front of a crowd like this.’

The Radiant Garden chapel that the ceremony was taking place in was indeed far from a beach setting. It had needed to be magically expanded to accommodate all the various friends from around the worlds that he made on his many adventures. There was even a giant screen hovering up front in the air so the guests could see the altar no matter where they were in the chapel.

There had probably never been such a gathering of guests in the entire history of the worlds. It was composed of various humans, animals (both regular and anthropomorphic), monsters, magical beings, artificial constructs and other kinds. And all of them looked incredibly happy to be there to witness this happy occasion.

Hercules pumped his fist. Rapunzel’s eyes were wet with happy tears. Stitch shot him one of his toothiest smiles. Jack Sparrow gave a salute.

Sora smiled at all of them as he passed by. ‘We may be shattering the World Order to bits for this wedding. But I’m so glad they could all be here today. Because they’re not just friends. All of them are family.’

Finally, Sora reached the altar and stood before Mickey. The mouse had never looked more like a king since he was dressed in his most official robes. It was fitting because he was the officiant for the ceremony.

‘Never would have imagined that we’d be getting married by a king who’s a giant mouse,’ thought Sora as he turned around and gazed down the aisle as his groomsmen, all dressed in matching black suits, approached.

Fittingly, the first groomsman to arrive was also the very first person Sora had helped in his lifetime. ‘I’d barely been born when I saved Ven. And because of him, I gained the Keyblade and became the hero the worlds and Kairi needed.”

Then came his former Nobody. ‘Roxas certainly earned his spot among my groomsmen. He gave up his existence to wake me up so I could stop the first Organization.’

Sora gave a little chuckle as he saw how identical Ven and Roxas were in their suits. ‘They truly do look like twin brothers. I can’t believe how many of the guests here really thought they were that.’

After Roxas, came the two who had been with Sora through nearly every step of his adventures. Donald and Goofy looked like proud parents seeing as how they had long considered Sora to be like another nephew and another son respectively.

‘An anthropomorphic duck and dog among my groomsmen. Now there’s something I definitely never thought I would have at my wedding. But I never would’ve gotten anywhere without them. Not that I would tell Donald that. Goofy maybe. But not Donald. He’d never let me hear the end of it.’

Then Riku came down the aisle. As he took his place right beside Sora, the two of them exchanged smiles.

‘Riku, I’m so happy that through everything that’s happened, our friendship not only endured but got even stronger. You’re my brother in everything but blood and there’s no one else I’d choose to be my best man.’

Now that all the groomsmen were in place, it was now time for the bridesmaids to come down the aisle. ‘My bride really didn’t have a lot of female friends when we were growing up on the Islands. Now, thanks to our adventures, she has plenty to fill her bridesmaids’ ranks,’ thought Sora.

The first bridesmaid to arrive, dressed in a pink dress that they were all wearing, came Olette. ‘She was probably the first person to call our story a romantic one. How right she was.’

Xion was next. ‘Her appearance is living proof that my strongest memories were always of Kairi.’

Following Xion was none other than the blue haired Keyblade master who was ultimately responsible for him meeting the love of his life. ‘I can never thank you enough for setting us up to meet, Aqua.’

Then came Kairi’s former Nobody. ‘I’m so glad that Naminè didn’t want to wake me up without my memories of Kairi. Although, I wish there had been a better way that wouldn’t have required Roxas and Xion to make sacrifices. Oh well. It all worked out in the end.’

Finally, came the maid of honor. ‘She may have been uninvolved in our adventures. But Selphie’s been Kairi’s oldest female friend, so she deserves to be maid of honor.’

Sora then gazed to the front rows of seats where the groups from Disney Castle, Radiant Garden, Twilight Town and Shibuya were all seated. In the very first row was Master Yen Sid, Terra, Axel, Isa, Hayner, Pence, Tidus and Wakka as well as his parents, Hayley and Jones who looked extremely proud of their boy.

‘Mom, Dad, I hope that our marriage turns out as wonderful as yours.’

Next to come up the aisle, was Pluto with Jiminy Cricket riding on top of his head. The dog had a cushion clutched in his mouth which upon it were two paopu fruits each in the middle of a crown of flowers. In the cricket’s hands was a cushion with two golden rings.

Once Pluto had reached the altar, he walked up to Selphie, who reached down and took one of the rings from Jiminy’s cushion. The dog then walked up to Riku who took the remaining ring. With the rings having been delivered to the maid of honor and best man, Pluto assumed a sitting position next to Riku until the time came for his next duty.

Then the music changed. All the guests rose to their feet.

After a short while, Sora’s eyes widened. Coming down the aisle, preceded by Chirithy who was scattering flower petals and between her adoptive parents Parker and Dorothy, was his bride.

Kairi was dressed in a lovely white sleeveless wedding gown. Golden designs were stitched into the fabric with an elaborate shape of a heart on her chest. Her hair had been done up in a bun and she was wearing a tiara with seven shimmering white heart-shaped jewels. In her hands, she carried a bouquet of flowers. Her eyes were bright with happiness and her lips wore a radiant smile.

‘She’s so beautiful,’ thought Sora.

‘He’s so handsome,’ thought Kairi as she and her parents reached the altar with Chirithy taking its place beside Selphie.

The music faded and the guests resumed sitting. It was time for the ceremony to begin.

“Welcome all honored friends and family from around the worlds. We are gathered here on this most joyous day to witness the joining of Sora and Kairi in the sacred union of marriage. Who presents this woman to be married?” asked Mickey.

“Her father and I do, with all our hearts and with every blessing,” said Dorothy.

“We also say this on behalf of her birth parents and grandmother who sadly could not be here today but would surely be so proud of her,” said Parker solemnly.

A bittersweet feeling came over the bride. ‘I hope, wherever they are, they’re very proud. I just know they would’ve loved Sora especially after hearing about everything he’s done for me.’

Kairi handed her bouquet to Selphie and exchanged a loving embrace with each of her parents. ‘I can never thank you enough for taking me in, Mom and Dad. You’ve been the most wonderful parents I could ask for. I love you both so much.’

The bride then walked over to the groom’s side. Sora was then suddenly embraced by Kairi’s parents.

“Keep taking care of her, Sora,” whispered Parker.

“Just like you always have,” added Dorothy.

“I will. I promise,” Sora responded back as Kairi’s parents broke their embrace and headed for their seats.

‘And there’s never been a promise that you’ve failed to keep, my soon-to-be husband,’ thought Kairi as she took Sora’s hands into her own as Mickey started up again.

“What we are witnessing this day is the next step in what has been an incredible journey. Sora and Kairi began this journey as childhood friends. But although they were young, the light of love was present right from the start and it continued to grow over time. That light has guided them through many trials and tribulations throughout their lives. And now they have reached this day when their hearts, which have always shared a special bond, will now truly become one,” said the mouse king.

‘It certainly has been quite a ride for us, Sora. But everything that we’ve gone through, even the darkest times, has been worth it. Even more worth it since it has finally led us here to this day,’ thought Kairi.

“Sora, Kairi, your love and devotion for one another is greatly admirable. But while marriage is a beautiful symbol of that love, it is a commitment not to be taken lightly as you go through all the challenges that life will throw at you. But there is no doubt among anyone present here that the two of you will rise to meet those challenges together,” continued Mickey.

Kairi smiled at her groom who smiled back. ‘As many of our friends have said, when we’re together, Sora, there is nothing we can’t do.’

“Now, let us hear you both recite your vows of love for one another. And as Keyblade Masters, it is tradition to swear them on your Keyblades. Sora?” asked Mickey.

As he had been instructed by the Keyblade Masters, Sora released one of his hands from Kairi’s, held it out and summoned Kingdom Key eliciting a gasp from several of the guests. Planting the tip to the floor and kneeling down while not once breaking eye contact with Kairi or releasing her hand.

‘Okay, Kairi. Let’s keep it together. You don’t want to start crying and ruin Selphie’s hard work on your makeup. No matter how wonderful Sora’s vow is undoubtedly going to be,’ Kairi thought as the love of her life began.

“Kairi, when my adventures began, what kept me going was the thought of reuniting with the people I hold dear at the end. But looking back, I realize while that was true, it was not entirely accurate because the one I was fighting hardest to reunite with has always truly been you. You’ve always been the one who inspires me to be the best I can be, and you’ve always been the light that leads me out of the darkness and back to where I’m meant to be: where I can hear you laugh, see you smile and just be where we can share our lives and our love. So, this is my vow to you. As your husband, I will stand by your side in all things that may come our way whether it be fighting together to protect the worlds from the darkness or raising a family of our own. I will laugh with you in the good times and comfort you in the bad times. And most of all, I will love you now and forever even beyond the time we part for good.”

Kairi had bee successfully in refraining from crying. But it had been no easy task. Sora’s wonderful words of love had imbued her with immense joy.

As Sora rose and dismissed his Keyblade, Mickey turned to Kairi and said, “Kairi?”

‘Sora, that was absolutely beautiful. I only hope my own vow will touch your heart in the same way you’ve just touched mine.’

Like what Sora did earlier, Kairi held out her hand and summoned Destiny’s Embrace. She planted the tip on the floor and kneeled down while her eyes gazed into Sora’s while keeping one of her hands in his. It was fortunate that her gown had been designed so she had no trouble kneeling down for this part.

“Sora, when I first met you, it was during one of the darkest times of my life. There I was: a lost little girl whose home world was swallowed by the darkness and had been sent away to a strange new one with no memory other than her own name. And then there was you: a boy with the brightest smile who opened his heart to me and helped me build a wonderful new life. I don’t know what would have happened to me had you not become the friend that I needed. I realize now that it was not some random chance that we met. It was destiny. Destiny brought us together. Destiny always reunited us whenever we were separated. And now, destiny has led us here where our hearts will be united. And so, to you, I vow that I will support you in everything from the responsibilities as Keyblade Masters to bringing up our future children. I will always cheer you on and be your source of strength. And most importantly, I will love and cherish you for the entirety of our lifetime and beyond.”

Kairi looked into Sora’s eyes and saw a tear welled up in it. He too was clearly struggling to not make a scene. Her heart warmed to see that her vow had indeed succeeded in touching his heart.

Mickey wiped away a tear of his own from his eye as Kairi dismissed her Keyblade and rose up. “Those vows were beautiful, both of you. You should both be very proud,” he whispered to the bride and groom.

The mouse king then regained his composure and continued on with the ceremony. “The groom and the bride shall now exchange their rings.”

Sora turned away from Kairi. Riku immediately handed Sora the ring. After shooting his oldest friend a look of gratitude, he turned toward his future wife and took her hand into his.

“Kairi, wear this ring as a symbol of my oath to love you and my wish for the wonderful lifetime for both of us,” he said as he slipped the ring on her finger.

Kairi gazed at the ring. Engraved upon it, was a perfect recreation of the drawing from the Secret Place. A drawing that had evolved from simple childhood artwork to a foretelling of a very important moment in their lives.

‘Those Moogles certainly are quite the artists,’ thought Kairi.

“Kairi?” whispered Selphie snapping Kairi out of her thoughts.

‘Oh! Right! Time for me to give Sora his so we match!’

Kairi turned to her maid of honor who passed the ring to her. After giving her oldest gal pal a slightly embarrassed smile, she turned to her groom and took his hand.

“Sora, wear this ring as a symbol of my oath to love you and my wish for the wonderful lifetime for both of us,” said the bride as she slipped the ring onto the groom’s finger.

Mickey smiled. “And now, before we conclude the ceremony, there are two unification rituals that we shall observe. They are traditions that come from the two worlds represented here. First, from the bride’s world of birth, Radiant Garden, the flower crowns.”

Pluto left Riku’s side and moved until he stood before the bride and groom. With a smile of gratitude to the dog, Sora and Kairi reached down and each took one of the flower crowns off of the cushion.

“Entwined in these crowns, are three kinds of flowers. First, the yellow sunflowers represent your friendship, which was where the two of you began. Next, the pink carnations represent your love for each other that grew from your friendship and led you here. And finally, the white daisies represent the brand-new beginning of a whole new journey that two of you will share together in your love. Sora, Kairi, on this day, wear these crowns as symbols of everything your marriage encompasses.”

At the end of Mickey’s words, Sora raised the crown in hands and gently lowered it down onto Kairi’s head, careful not to disturb or obscure her tiara. Once he had finished, Kairi did the same, managing to get the crown past his usual spiky hairstyle that she loved so much.

Kairi then heard what sounded to be some snickers that could have come from either the audience or the groomsmen. Clearly the sight of Sora wearing the flower crown had amused some.

She shook her head with a small smile. ‘I can imagine he might be getting teased after the ceremony likely from Riku, Donald, Axel, Wakka or Tidus. I’ll have to remedy that by assuring him just how adorable he looks.’

“Now, for the tradition from the Destiny Islands. And it is one that carries a certain significance for Sora and Kairi: the sharing of the paopu fruits,” Mickey continued.

Once again, Sora and Kairi reached down to Pluto’s cushion. This time, they took the two star-shaped fruits from it.

“For those who do not know, there is a legend from the Islands that when two people share these fruits, their destinies are bound together, and they remain a part of each other’s lives no matter what. While Sora and Kairi have shared these fruits before, they will do so again here on their wedding day to renew and strengthen that bond.”

With that, Sora and Kairi began to reach their fruits to the other’s mouth. As they inched closer, they both recalled the day before their fight against Xehanort on the paopu tree, where they shared them for the first time.

‘Even if what followed that day were things we’d rather forget, the moment we first shared these fruits will always be one of our most treasured memories. But, this time, I know for sure that there’s nothing but good and wonderful things to come after we share them today,’ thought Kairi.

Finally, the fruits reached their mouths and simultaneously, Sora and Kairi took a bite out of the other’s. After chewing and swallowing, they returned the fruits to Pluto’s cushion. As the dog returned to Riku’s side, the couple took each other’s hands once again and faced Mickey.

Mickey gave them a smile. “Sora, Kairi, you have pledged your vows. You have exchanged your rings. You have crowned each other with the symbolic flowers. And you have strengthened the bond of your destinies with the paopu fruit. So, by the power vested in me as the king of Disney Castle, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Sora, you may kiss your bride.”

Sora took Kairi into his arms and the two of them exchanged the brightest smiles they ever shown. Their feelings of happiness could not be greater now that their hearts had been joined together.

‘It’s time, Sora. Time to make another memory to treasure for the rest of our lives.’

Closing their eyes and preparing for the thunderous applause that would soon fill the chapel, they slowly inched their faces closer together.

But alas, the memory never came to be because the kiss never happened. At this exact moment, the wonderful dream had ended, and the dreamer woke up to a reality that was far less bright.

Notes from the Mad Doctor:

As much as I hated to cut short what would have been a very lovely SoKai moment, it was necessary due to the path this story is going to take.

I really had to do some heavy research to make this feel like a believable wedding ceremony. I really hope I pulled it off and I hope you all liked what I included as special unification rituals. I always felt the paopu fruits would be used in Destiny Islands’ weddings and I also imagined flowers would play a part in Radiant Garden’s wedding ceremonies on account of the world’s name.

I was thinking, for the music that would play at this wedding, they’d use a new wedding rendition of Dearly Beloved for when Sora and the wedding party are coming down the aisle and an instrumental of Don’t Think Twice for the bride’s entrance. Any thoughts and ideas of your own, readers?

Now, I have mentioned this before in my other stories. But for the benefit of any new readers, I’ll mention it again. Since I couldn’t come up with good Kingdom Hearts-ish sounding names for Sora and Kairi’s parents, I decided to name them after recurring actors from Disney live-action movies. Here are their derivations:

Hayley, Sora’s Mother: Hayley Mills from Pollyanna and The Parent Trap (also doubles as a reference to Haley Joel Osment)

Jones, Sora’s Father: Dean Jones from the Herbie the Love Bug film series

Parker, Kairi’s Father: Fess Parker from Davey Crockett and Old Yeller

Dorothy, Kairi’s Mother: Dorothy McGuire from Swiss Family Robinson and Old Yeller

Hey uh can you write a story where the reader is getting bullied at twlight town and people are making fun of reader insulting her face and her looks and Sora has enough with this abuse and decide to stand up for her and Olette also stand up for her too

That’s it. (Sora x bullied female reader.)

(Warning: mean things being said. A bit of violence.)

Sora was visiting Twilight Town after a ton of begging. He said that he wanted to find more clues to finding Roxas and Naminé. But,that wasn’t the only reason why he wanted to come here. Sora wanted to visit you. After seeing you a couple times he couldn’t help But,want to see you again. Sora happily walked towards the usual spot. “Wak! Where are you going?!” Donald asked. “To the usual spot. I want to visit the Twilight Town gang.” He said smiling. “I think that’s a good idea. Maybe they found something about Roxas.” Goofy agreed. The trio were on their way when Sora spotted you. You looked worried. “(Y/n)!” He said with a smile on his face. “Sora?” You asked not turning around. You couldn’t let him see you not like this. After all you couldn’t even let your sister look at you. What would happen if Sora saw you? You didn’t want to know. Because you kinda liked him. Plus you weren’t even that pretty. So, you took off running. “Wait! (Y/n)!” Sora said. He turned to his friends. “(Y/n) where are you?!” Olette asked frowning. “Hey, we just saw her.” Sora said frowning. “Yeah. She was going that way.” Goofy said pointing in the way you went. “Let’s look together.” Sora said. She nodded and they tried to look for you in the woods. You stood in front of the old mansion. “What should I do?” You asked frowning. You took one look at your arm. It had a bump on it. You wanted help. But,in the deepest part of your mind something was stopping you. Maybe it was because your bullies were right. You closed your eyes remembering everything.

You were sitting by the sandlot writing a letter to Sora. Of course you weren’t going to send it or anything like that. You just wanted to say thank you to him. Because you could tell how hard he has been working. You looked up at the sunset sky. It probably sounded like you were being clingy or something. That is why you didn’t tell anyone about it. Suddenly someone sat next to you. Oh no, it was Shuka and Yuu. These two girls hated you. “Well,what do we have here?! Look, Yuu it’s the baby!” Shuka said pushing you a bit. “Shouldn’t your sister be baby sitting you.” Yuu said. “N-No I can look after myself.” “What is this?” She asked in a taunting tone. Yuu took your letter. “Can you please give that back?” You asked. “Let me think...no! Besides this is too much fun.” She said. The two of them read your letter to Sora. Afterwards they began to laugh. “Let me get this strait...you like Sora?!” Shuka laughed. You were blushing and you couldn’t say a word. All because your heart was beating at the thought. “W-Why do you care?” You asked. These girls saw him even more rare than you did. That was when Yuu looked at you. “Listen to me. You aren’t pretty enough to have anyone! In fact no one wants you! You can just leave this place and no one would care.” Yuu said looking at you. “I bet your foster parents regret adopting you! Because your always crying to them! You cause so much trouble for everyone including your sister. So,why would Sora want you?!” Shuka yelled. “That’s not true...my sister and Sora care about me.” You cried. That Yuu pushed you down. “Get this in your dumb head! You are ugly,a cry baby and stupid. No one wants you around!” She said kicking you. Shuka tore up your letter and said. “If you tell someone...it will get worse for you.” You were crying because she kicked you so hard. Her words set in as well. That was when she kicked your arm hard. The girls left you broken. You looked at your torn letter. You couldn’t tell anyone about your problem not even your best friend. Your sister.

You began to cry. You didn’t want those girls to hurt you again. So,the best thing to do. Was to hide your feelings and pretend that everything was okay. While avoiding those girls. You heard footsteps and took a mad dash for the mansion. It was the only way for you to calm down. You had to be alone. “I’m sorry...but,I don’t want to see you right now.” You thought running into a room. You hid in the corner as you heard Sora and your sis calling your name. You heard someone come in. You dried your tears and pretended that everything was okay. “There you are. Your sister and I have been looking for you.” A familiar voice said. It was Sora. You looked out the window. Trying not to show him your tears. “(Y/n)? What’s wrong?” He asked. “Nothing. I-I just wanted to explore.” You lied still not looking his way. You frowned upon realizing that you were alone with Sora. He walked up to you. The two of you stood there in silence. But,Sora didn’t like this. This wasn’t like you. You would usually want to talk to him. Ask him if he was doing well. You asked him all kinds different kind of things and you helped out in any way you could. That was something that he could appreciate. Plus you would be happy to see him. Maybe he said something last time he came to visit. “Are you mad at me?” He asked. You shook your head. “No. It’s just...what do you...think about me?” You asked him. Sora blushed. He couldn’t tell you the truth. But,he couldn’t lie either. “Well, you’re really caring. I see the way you treat others. Even strangers. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone quite like you.” He said looking at you. You didn’t know how to respond to that. Was Sora right or was those girls right? You didn’t know who to believe. You wanted to believe him. But, what they said just lingered in your head. No matter how much you told yourself that you’re okay. You aren’t. “Let’s go find your sister.” Sora said smiling. You smiled and went with him. “I was so worried about you.” She said hugging you. You wanted to push her away and tell her that you didn’t need your sis to look after you. After all the two of you are the same age. But, you didn’t want to hurt her feelings. “Let’s go get you some ice cream.” She said smiling. “Sounds good to me.” You said smiling.

All of you went to get ice cream. You were almost there. When Sora suggested. “Let’s race.” “Okay. Are you in (Y/n)?” Olette said smiling. You nodded. Maybe you were going to be okay. “Ready...go!” She said. You slowly walked at first. The two of them were confused by this and stopped. That was when you took off running. “I fall for that every time...” Olette sighed. You had a huge smile on your face. You were going to win. That was when you bumped into someone and this person tripped you. Causing you to fall. You shook your head and was about to get up. However, this was when you got a good look at the person. “Oh. I’m sorry did I trip you?” Yuu asked. You got up. But, Shuka pushed you again. “Boy you aren’t just ugly...but,you’re clumsy too.” She said. They were going to say a couple of mean things and let you go. This was until they saw your friends. “You’re a cry baby! I can’t believe that you actually had the nerve to tell them!” Yuu said looking very angry. “No. I didn’t tell them...honest.” You said looking afraid. “You’re lying!” Shuka said. You shook your head. “Time to pay up.” Yuu said about to punch you. Only someone grabbed her wrist. “Get your hands off my sister!” Olette yelled. “Why are you defending her?! She’s worthless little cry baby.” “No she isn’t!” Your sister yelled. “Look at her! She isn’t even that pretty!” Shuka said about to hit you. Sora hugged you tightly wanting to take the hit. But,Donald and Goofy defended you. “These girls don’t appreciate your kindness (Y/n).” Goofy said looking angry. “Oh,please! (Y/n) let’s us have fun with her! In fact she deserves everything that we do to her!” Yuu said. “That’s enough! You must be blinded by your jealousy to say something like that! (Y/n) hasn’t done anything wrong!” Sora yelled. You grabbed Sora’s hand. “She’s right....just look at me...” You whispered. She has already pushed you down and causing your cheek to have a big scratch on it. That was when he finally realized what happened. Sora looked at you as you didn’t want to be seen. That was when he snapped. “How could you do this to someone who is this sweet?!” Sora asked yelling. He summoned his keyblade and this scared the girls off. They must have realized how serious he was. “(Y/n) are you okay?” Sora asked frowning. You didn’t look at him. That was realizing that you were crying. “We’ll go get a first aid kit.” Your sis said going into the restaurant. She was leaving you with Sora. He embraced you. “Shhh. Everything is going to be okay. You’re safe now.” Sora said as you cried. “Listen they’re wrong about you.” “I don’t know Sora...” You cried. “I do. I’ve learned so much while on my journey. But,you taught me very important lessons...” “I did?” You asked. Sora has been to all kinds of different places. What did you teach him? He nodded. “Oh yeah. One of them was to look at a person’s heart not their looks. You care about everyone here. No matter how they look.” Sora said hugging you. “We’re back.” Olette said before opening the box.

She sprayed medicine on your deep cuts. You looked away kinda in pain. It stung a bit. Sora held your hand as she put bandages on your cheek and knees. “Here drink this.” Sora then said giving you an elixir. You shook your head. “You need this for battle...” You said frowning. “It’s okay we have more.” Sora said with a smile. All your friends were too good to you. “I can’t believe those girls! How dare they say things like that you? Don’t worry. I’ll make sure that they won’t do anything to you again.” She said. You dried your tears. “Are you feeling a little better?” Sora asked you. You slowly nodded and continued on. Suddenly Sora stopped in his tracks. You stopped as well. His face was red. “Sora?” “C-Can I do something?” He asked you. You nodded. He kissed you gently on head before looking away. You could feel the blush on your face. Sure this was just a kiss on your head. But,to you it felt a little more than that. You needed it and he knew that. You looked down lost in thought. Sora knew exactly what you needed. But,how? Only your parents and sister really knew what you needed to feel better. Everyone had a different something to help them cheer up. And yours was a kiss on your head. “I’m sorry if that was too much.” Sora said frowning. After what happened today you became his driving force even more than before. When all of this was over he will spend time with you and try to confess. But,he knows very little about love. He had to go for that goal.

I hate that they never went more into Cid lowkey adopting Sora in KH1 like I never played FF7 (I think that's the one Cid appears in yeah?) but that man took one look at that sassy 14 year old kid with a saviour complex who called him "gramps" despite Cid being the only character old enough to be his father and decided that he would protect him both by offering him a safe place if he needed it, being the only one to care about Sora as a child and is the only adult character in this whole damn series that saw Sora as a kid and apologised for Sora having to do the job an adult should've done in saving the universe.

Like why do people see Leon and Cloud as his dads aside from Donald and Goofy when none of them appear old enough to be his parents and have attacked/abandoned him in the past when Mr. "saved a ragtag group of angst final fantasy teen characters from their dying world and then immediately saw a Disney child and tried to adopt him" Cid is RIGHT THERE.

001 - Kingdom Hearts

Favorite character: On the villain side: VEXEN IS BEST ORGANIZATION XIII MEMBER. Shoulda stayed evil, though. I like it when he complains and screams about everything and hates everyone. He's one of my favorite villains, just, like...in general. So fun to write. Also attached to Demyx, but I actually liked him more in III than II because it reminded me of my rawr lolspeek weeb days when I f/o'd him without knowing what f/o'ing was and then transitioned this to shipping VexDem like heck. On the hero side: MY GIRL KAIRI! But honorable mentions go to Sora, Riku, Aqua, Ven, Terra, Xion, Roxas, Lea, Ienzo, any Disney character I loved beforehand (this is way too fuckin many to list), Merlin (OKAY I WILL SINGLE HIM OUT), Yen Sid (I'LL SINGLE HIM OUT TOO), you know what let's also single out the Mickey+Donald+Goofy power trio...just...any KH hero who isn't part of the Yozora stuff or the KHUX stuff. ...Except I also LOVE Strelitzia, and she is the only KHUX-exclusive kiddo I care about but I care about her MANY. (Oh, and there's a least fave I have who's a "hero" but that's a debatable label). I would go on about why I love all of them but...that's too many characters to elaborate on

Least Favorite character: See, I think the real answer is Yozora, but the thing is I just tend to forget about him or not care (unless I'm doing a weird AU where he's Noctis' bratty Nobody, don't ask). He kinda represents the Shark Jump and I don't like watching that scene where he literally petrifies Sora for not being strong enough. But again, I can just kinda forget about him if he's not fed to me through a social-media unit. The one I LOVE TO HATE is Master Eraqus. The man actually triggered me back in the day. He is purity culture. He is the overbearing parent who will not accept you unless you are perfect. He is by and large the reason VAT didn't communicate with each other properly. He was the one who taught Aqua to think in absolutes. He lied to Ventus for years and then insisted to kill him was the only option, and then, when Terra tried to defend his brother figure/friend without knowing WHY Eraqus was doing such a thing, Eraqus didn't offer an explanation and instead switched targets to Terra citing that the problem was Terra's lack of OBEDIENCE. Eraqus is just very "my way or the highway" and uses his moral high horse to justify doing things that utterly lack compassion in any regard, which is something that GETS to me on a deep level, and let me tell you, I hated him for so long until I realized he was actually a super fuckin fun guy to imagine as a Bigger Bad in AUs that either have the KH protags teaming up or have villain protags needing a "greater good lawful evil" figure. And I just have found too many good memes about him cheating at chess and killing children. I have to laugh. Making fun of him is fun. He's a ridiculous character. That said, this recent trend of "erase everything bad he ever did and paint him as the ultimate hero of the saga" makes me raise eyebrows for SEVERAL reasons

5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): VexDem, SoRiku, Kairi x Jaune Arc (RWBY), Aqua x Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy) x Bayonetta, IsaLea, Ventus x Papyrus (Undertale), that was six but they all needed to be mentioned

Character I find most attractive: Ienzo. HOO BABY he is adorable. I saw someone make a Valentine's Day gifset of KH and FF characters shortly after III dropped and seeing his smiling face paired with a romance quote made my heart FLUTTER

Character I would marry: Probably Ienzo, see above. He's also a very kind guy. Favorite redemption in the modern era.

Character I would be best friends with: I hope the Destiny Trio would adopt me into their friend circle the way they've tended to do with every other inter-world denizen they've come across. I would love to have them as my positivity squad. Or, y'know, two positivities and one "it's okay to screw up" guy. Just. I would love to hang out with them. I often worry that I'm unlikable to my faves, but even though I would usually prefer to hang with the villains, I can pretty much guarantee these three would be open-minded about me. (Do I kiiiiinda wanna be friends with Vexen though? Of course I do. He'd hate me but maaaayyyyybe he would see me as one of his pet idiots who makes him look smarter, and we could bond over our fragile egos?)

a random thought: You ever think about that one NPC lady in Traverse Town who refused to tell you where she was from because it was none of her business? You ever wonder where she WAS from? What her world was like? How she ended up being the survivor of the Ansem Apocalypse when it hit her? All I know is that when I read her lines out loud (I used to read KH speech balloons out loud all the time), I gave her a Southern accent for no discernible reason and I stand by it. That woman has a twang.

An unpopular opinion: I don't want KHUX to be canon because I feel it's smaller-scale and takes a lot of mystery out of the worldbuilding. I always assume that the KHverse just includes ALL worlds in fiction, and that includes their thousand-year histories, meaning the Age of Fairy Tales should've happened long long long LONG LONG LONG ago and not five generations. And whatever screwed up the world should've been more than just five people having a fight, and whatever saved it should've been more than just five people getting along, and Daybreak Town really suffers from having to stick to mobile-friendly graphics and therefore is the least aesthetically attractive KH town ever, and I don't like that Lauriam and Elrena used to be such selfless people. I do still love Strelitzia because she's shy and relatable and quirky (sitting on the roof) and she questions authority and if you go with shipping subtext she's probably bi (or pan?), but I don't like the "Lauriam's dead sister for his arc's drama" bit. I liked when Marluxia was angry because he wanted to run Organization XIII but it was in the hands of an idiot who wasn't him. And more than anything I just like imagining that the Age of Fairy Tales was something bigger, further in the past, and more mysterious than something designed for a mobile game. Scala ad Caelum, however, I like a lot better because there IS a lot of mystery there and also it's a very pretty town with an amazing design.

my canon OTP: I really only count the Disney couples as the "canon" ones, so this is a question of picking my favorite Disney couple that shows up onscreen. I hope I'm not forgetting an important one, but I think the title has to go to Aladdin/Jasmine, which is always perfect in everything. (This would be an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY if KH had ever adapted Treasure Planet, and if it ever gets the mind to adapt Treasure Planet then even if I don't care about that game I will immediately declare that Amelia/Doppler takes the KH canon OTP crown. *taps watch* Get on it Squenix)

Non-canon OTP: SoRiku, which I counted as "basically canon" after DDD until III decided it wasn't sure. But I'm just a sucker for how DDD is the two of them all "HE'S GOT MY BACK AND I'VE GOT HIS AND I'D DO ANYTHING FOR HIM SO LONG AS HE'S HAPPY." It's just the best kind of Friends-to-Lovers, except when you take all canon into account it's Friends-to-Rivals-to-Enemies-to-Friends-to-Lovers and that's a very juicy dynamic. BUT ALSO: VexDem, which is a nostalgia ship SO STRONG I had to accept that it eclipsed my former Vexen ships by a mile and I wanted to go back to my roots. That one, I have a much longer essay about that I'll just have you refer to so I don't repeat myself for pages. To make a long story short, their scene in III was JUST DELICIOUS.

most badass character: OOF THEY'RE ALL BADASS but in the end it's between Sora and Aqua, because Sora gets the widest RANGE of abilities across the series that he masters while Aqua gets the most POWERFUL abilities due to her Mastery (Command Styles seem like they'd be the most OP things ever in-universe and I'm here for it because flashy battle moves make brain go brr).

pairing I am not a fan of: SOKAI, Xehaqus, RikuNami, Vanitas/anyone not evil

character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): OH BOY. KAIRI THE MOST. YOU ALL KNOW WHY: lack of screen time, Fridging for drama, forced romance to invite death flags (they really wanted to milk that death to get people talking didn't they?), giving Alyson Stoner ZERO direction to actually follow up on Hayden Panettiere's performance. But then I remember that they made Vexen redeem and lose his entire personality and I just...uuugghhhh. I can't believe he died twice in this series. And then Demyx is FUN but also I know he's flipped sides as well, which means he won't be fun much longer! Xehanort seems to switch motivations to whatever makes him the biggest threat (and several of Eraqus' old flaws seem to be mysteriously glued onto him), Sora isn't a motormouth anymore, Riku just doesn't get anyone who cares about him anymore because everyone's distracted by Sora and Kairi, IS ANYBODY GOING TO ADDRESS THE ACTUAL ISSUES THAT DROVE THE WAYFINDER TRIO APART, oh God Marluxia and Larxene you're good guys now what have they done to you

favourite friendship: I really like each of the trios. But you know what's even BETTER than the trios? If you put...all of the trios together...meaning Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Aqua, Terra, Ven, Roxas, Xion, Lea, Hayner, Pence, Olette...and then you added Isa back in there...and you gave them Ienzo...and you brought back Naminé...and you say that Subject X is Strelitzia and you have her turn back up so she can have justice done...AND YOU HAVE AN ULTRA KEYBLADE GROUP OF FRIENDS. As for Vexen, any purely platonic relationship I have for him is a crossover but trust me I have many crossover pals for he

character I want to adopt or be adopted by: See everyone I listed above in the friendship question. They can either mentor me or let me be their big sis/mom. But also, I will GLADLY be Merlin or Yen Sid's daughter. (But also would I kiiiiinda wanna be a VexDem daughter? This is the worst idea. Still wanna try)
