RainCode Vampire Hunters AU: Yakou Furio design

Information:

— 30 y. o. (actually he is much older) — A vampire who lives in the forest and pretends to be human. due to a conflict with Amaterasu clan, he was forced to leave Kanai Ward — Accidentally meets vampire hunters and allows them to stay in his house for a while. In the future he asks them to help him protect himself from vampires from Amaterasu clan that are trying to kill him — Loves to tell different stories. Often gives advice to Yuma and encourages him when he doesn’t succeed or has doubts — Mainly feeds on the blood of animals and at a time when no one sees him

and one little note:

Thanks to Spectral Projection, one day Vivia learns that Yakou is a vampire. However, he keeps it a secret from everyone, even from Yakou

Edit thread story of the NDA helping take care of a fever stricken Yuma~ 🌡️

“You’re such a handful… Come. Let’s head back to the agency for you to recuperate.”

Halara escorts a very dizzy Yuma back to base safely lending him their shoulder to lean on. Making sure no Peacekeepers can mess with them. The bright lights of the city aren’t helping his throbbing headache so his eyes remain shut. Halara also picked up the supplies needed from Kanai's shops. (spending their own money in the process no less) They’re still not used to touching Yuma yet so they feel a bit awkward. 💦

“Yuma you’re burning up. And you’re shaking like a leaf. Go sit down and I’ll go and get you a blanket.”

Upon return and Halara’s explanation, Yakou walks over and checks Yuma’s temperature (with the back of his hand) He’s burning and shivering from the fever induced chills. He quickly ushers him to sit down on the sofa he sleeps on. Then he lets him borrow the blanket from his own bed to keep warm. 🧣

"Yuma are you okay? Here, let's check your temperature..."

When Yuma sits down wrapped in Yakou's blanket gripping it tightly still shivering, Kurumi sits right beside him. Although Yakou already checked for a fever, she worries deeply for his state and insists on taking a device reading of his body temperature, using the thermometer Halara bought. When the device is inserted, it turns out to be about 39 degrees (102 degrees f) 🌡️🥵

“Alright Yuma, here's your medicine. Open up, my man. Down the hatch.”

After Kurumi leaves temporarily, Desuhiko sits next to Yuma. He's told by Yakou to give him the liquid medicine that Halara bought earlier. It was a strong fever reducer. After some hesitation, he finally takes it. But it was very strong and bitter. He didn’t like it very much 💀💊

“Here Yuma, I was told that warm soup is always the best if you don’t feel well! This should help to heal you!”

Fubuki cooks and feeds Yuma some nice hot soup from the ingredients that were bought. (Kurumi helps her make it) Even if he doesn’t finish it all, he still enjoys how warm it is with what little he does eat 🥣 It was warm enough to stop his body from shivering.

“This fever is… persistent… What a pain… I wanna die someday…”

Vivia rests in the dark with Yuma after everyone works on cooling him off with ice water. (and ice) due to his fever suddenly spiking later in the night. (rising to nearly 103) So Vivia stays with him until he’s stable. They both end up falling asleep, and Vivia places his cool hand against Yuma’s warm hand. 🤝 They remain this way through the night.

"Sheesh Master, you're so pathetic... Don't worry me like that again. I thought you were a goner for sure..."

Yuma wakes up the next morning with his fever finally broken. Shinigami lays beside him with her ghostly hand over him as if she was hugging him. She mutters something under her breath, and he hears every word. He smiles placing his hand to her form, even though he can't feel it. 👻

He couldn't have been more thankful to have such kind friends

Something that I really hope the (potential) next Master Detective Archives game delves into more are the paranormal dispositions and Forensic Fortes.

When they’re talking about Fortes at the start of Chapter One, Halara states that fortes are the result of people’s natural “paranormal dispositions” being honed into Forensic Fortes over at least two years of training.

When I first read this, I was convinced that at least one of the villains would have some sort of special ability— especially Yomi.

I still wonder if Yomi has something unnatural going on, considering he has a few moments where his eyes literally go black, but this could also very well just be an artistic choice/dramatic effect?

Something else that’s interesting is how Halara’s Postcognition is really the only ability that can strictly be used for investigation.

Fubuki’s Time Leap and Vivia’s Spectral Projection can be used in all sorts of situations— even Desuhiko’s Disguice and Melami’s Spiritism have multiple applications.

However, there’s a clear bias towards people with special powers in this world:

Anyone with a innate ability can become a Master Detective, even if they’re not exactly great at their job (yet will still be greatly respected for their power), while powerless people have to work a lot harder:

But, as Halara says, it’d be great to have both.

It’s really interesting, and shows how there’s a lot more to being a detective than just having a special power.

The MDA universe has a lot of world building potential, and I really hope that this series is continued. Rain Code set a great foundation.

The Curse Of The Deathbound Descendant (Part 1 - There's Life In Death)

Enveloped in towering pine trees dusted with snow, a town stands alone far north in the world. Its solidarity would be often compared to the now-confined Kanai Ward, but the humble Lusonara Village has grown comfortable with isolation for generations longer. Though its population size unremarkable, its history richens the pages of scholarly records read mandatorily in every astute-suited academy.

Centuries ago, Lusonara Village was a no man's land, inhabited solely by dogsledding loners wishing for the solemn silence of snowfall to drown out their sorrows. They wanted nothing to do with the outside world, especially since none of them were anything special to be sought after. That is, until two families started to sparkle amidst the daily mundanity.

The Goldmine family and the Twilight family worked together as tight-knit allies to run Lusonara Village in the olden days. They had each other's backs and raised their children to do the same. In doing so, it fostered an inseparable bond between them, one that would soon manifest into unique connective spiritual abilities between the two bloodlines. The Twilight family has mediums that can see spirits but not hear or communicate with them, and the Goldmine family has mediums that can hear or communicate but not see them. Other villagers soon became acutely aware of the evolving powers in the families, which allowed them to maintain influence in the growing community. Spiritualism became the defining practice in Lusonara's culture, promising peace and security to the living and deceased.

When the World Detective Organization was founded, any Goldmine or Twilight children showing signs of supernatural abilities would be selected to be a part of its special division for Master Detectives. The entire village considered being a Master Detective the highest honor one could receive, which would then provide the families with more influence over the other. As deep as the two bloodlines' camaraderie flowed, the craving for dominance festered. This rift caused by competition widened as the years passed, the families' history rewritten into a mutually distant rivalry.

Everything came to a halt for the Twilight family when one generation bore no gifted offspring, and all who harnessed powers died from natural causes or were killed during active duty as a detective. The newlywed couple of the immediate family carried the overwhelming weight of their bloodline's legacy and the future of their influence over Lusonara. With no powers of their own, they prayed their yet-to-be children would bear that pain for them instead. Then the fourth day of the fourth month arrived.
