okay let's hope i don't screw this one up this time haha anyway popping in for a very early slick sunday submission (again) to talk more about my secret pups steddie fic idea because it's on my brain and i need to share.
warning: this is gonna get kinda sad (shocker)
so i think last i mentioned this idea, i talked about eddie finding out he had pups (theyre twins) because one of them is sick. i also mentioned that the other pup still held a fair bit of resentment toward eddie, which he totally thought was valid. i hope that catches us up enough that you know what i'm talking about (and if not i'm sorry)
this time around i wanna say some more on eddie's own resentment, because anyone thrown into this situation would definitely hold some against at least one person.
eddie expects his resentment to be toward steve. this is the man he loved, even if he never really knew how to say it back then. steve kept his own pups from him. all this time, he never told eddie. not until he had to. not until he was desperate, with no other options left. he stole YEARS away from eddie, years he could've been there, watching his pups grow up. instead, eddie is faced with two children that he father, whom he doesn't even know. strangers. and all of that is because of steve.
shockingly, he doesn't hate steve. at least, not nearly as much as he thinks he should. yeah, he's upset. he's mad. part of him wants to spit that steve had no right to keep them from him. but another part of him knows steve. loves steve, still. it reminds him that steve had to have a good reason not to tell him. and it also reminds eddie that he's just as much to blame. he could have come back. he could've told steve how he really felt from the beginning, and he didn't. he never even bothered to call, or write.
no, his biggest resentment lies in his band mates. they were supposed to be his friends. they'd lived together on tour buses on and off throughout the last several years. they stuffed themselves and all their equipment in vans for their first two tours, for fuck's sake. they were his brothers. and they lied to him. they knew, this whole time, that eddie had pups. they kept that from him. eddie doesn't talk to them for weeks when he flies back to indiana. any necessary communication went through their manager. eddie refused to talk to them directly. nothing could override the utter betrayal he felt from them.
and he's so pissed at wayne. his own uncle lied to him and kept this big secret. he got to be there for all the big moments in the twins' lives, and never told eddie a thing. it wasn't fair. unfortunately, eddie didn't have the luxury of avoiding wayne the way he could his band mates. because wayne was there, everywhere, all the time. always checking in. the pups loved him, too, which made it so much harder on eddie. he should have that with his pups, and he doesn't. he's practically a stranger to them, no matter how much steve told them about him. and eddie's not so much of an ass that he would keep that relationship away from his pups. not when wayne had done so much to help steve and the pups. not when the pups loved wayne so much.
it's so conflicting for eddie. he wants to be so mad at everyone, but he can't. not when his little girl is sick, and the doctors still can't figure out what's wrong with her. not when any breath could be her last, and they won't know until it's too late. because she's getting worse, and fast. when eddie had first arrived at the hospital, it was to find steve having a breakdown in the hallway. nurses and doctors and yelling and screaming machines and chaos. eddie's heart stops, thinking he was too late (he's not, i promise). he's not sure he's ever been quite this terrified before then.
i just think about eddie having to face all of these conflicting emotions in the middle of a very stressful time. this is the first time he's met his own pups, and he doesn't know how much time they have together. he doesn't know if his daughter will get better. he's stuck living with the fact that she may not. he may lose her forever, after just starting to get to know her. and of course, he will do everything possible to make sure he doesn't take any of this out on his pups (whether he succeeds at that or not is still up for debate)
i also think there will need to be a LOT of apologies made by multiple parties, and not all of those apologies may be accepted right away. it's a very complex situation, with a lot of complex ways to go about it.
(i would also like to mention that this fic premise is 100% absolutely in the process of becoming a real fic, it's just taking me 800 years to write because i never have any idea where a story is going until it's going there)
-
happy slick sunday :)

I love Percy and Annabeth but they should not have been in Heroes of Olympus.
Because they overshadow everyone else.
People even say they skipped other characters povs just to read there's.
I love them but I think they shouldn't have been as prominently apart of the story.
Because yeah I love them but I've had 5 books of these guys, I'd really like to know the rest of the seven.
Hell Jason's birthday is the day they fall into Tartarus soo...tell me they aren't overshadowed..
Jason's our main character and he constantly gets pushed aside and is not written well and constantly compared to as being Percy's lesser version.
Which isn't fair.
And he's not given a chance to change that.
He's not allowed to exist outside of Percy because of course he isn't.
Percy's right there.
Also give them a break.
They just fought a war.
Personally would love if the lost hero started with a snap shot of the battle of Manhatten and zoomed out to the Roman part of the fight.
Jason leading the charge and just "Yeah.. That's me, your probably wondering how I got here."
And takes us all the way back to a mysterious woman giving Jason up and the wolves coming for him.
With us learning from kid Thalia demanding to know where Jason is that this Jason is her Jason.
Jason Grace.
We see the wolf house we watch Jason try to survive and absolutely break our hearts hearing someone so young think he's so alone and no one loves him.
Lupa becoming more motherly to him but that fear Jason has always remains that she will turn on him one day.
Jason wandering the streets to Camp Jupiter.
Jason's situation bring the reverse of Percy's.
Being out casted immediately and than put on a pedestal once he's claimed.
Jason immediately hating it.
Jason being pushed into this good soilder narrative but he doesn't fit it at all.
His upbringing has left him wild, less bothered with proper fighting techniques and more on survival.
He fights to kill.
He fights to live.
And no one else gets that.
Except one camper, Octavian, who's older than Jason abd the Augur.
Everyone after reading the Pjo series seeing Octavian...I got my eye on you Mr.
Who insults the elders and is the first to get Jason to laugh.
And encourages Jason to stand up for what he believes in.
Giving Jason the courage to deny his place in the 1st cohort and join the 5th.
This
Pisses everyone off.
Mostly the 1st.
Who are downright offended because you don't turn down the first cohort.
And Jason's like, but I just did.
The 5th have no idea what to make of Jason but in time they become friendly.
Dakota becoming a friend to him.
Jason knows this because he shares his kool aid with him sometimes.
He does get in trouble for squaring off with and scaring off some bullies of the upper cohorts.
Because Jason hates bullies and he recognises the kid, Frank being picked on.
Apparently they stole his stick and while Jason has no idea it's importance, it made Frank sad soo he goes after them.
Ends up on probatio and friends with Frank.
Who admires Jason's bravery and wishes he could be too.
So the rest of the leigion kinda miffed some 5th upstart is embarrassing them.
And so when the next quest is given its to him.
Quests are different here to Camp Half-blood.
Since they don't have a true oracle, specifics are never mentioned.
Leaving the leigion to give the prophecy to whoever they want.
And they want to knock Jason down a few pegs and so they send him.
Jason picking Frank and Dakota.
Neither of the two are hopeful because the day a 5th is sent on a quest is the day their funeral is held.
Not the case though and they do in fact succeed and do it well.
Frank even opening up about his stick and showing that he is as brave and courageous as he wants to be.
It's through that act of bravery Frank is claimed as a son of Mars.
And though he's not exactly sure he should be one, Jason and Dakota both tell him it suites him well.
They both even do the "all hail Frank Zhang, Son of Mars" speech.
Which makes him smile.
On the way back though they do find Reyna.
Jason gets the short straw and has to do the oh the Roman God's are real but she knows and that she's a daughter of Bellona.
And they all head back to camp together.
And while Reyna has her guard up she does genuinely seem to enjoy her company with the others.
She's also the only other person to truly understand how Jason fights and his instinct to survive.
Though she doesn't share why.
Octavian greets them, proud and Reyna is on probatio until they can see what cohort she fits into.
Though she remarks after seeing the egos of the 1st that the 5th might be better afterall.
Celebrations are held and Jason wonders if the quest is really over.
Also all or us wondering if Octavian was genuine about what he said to Jason to follow his dreams.
Or if he did it to take Jason's place in the 1st.
Can't tell me after Luke anyone of you guys wouldn't be mad suss of an older blonde boy befriending Jason.
Fool me once.
Shame on you.
Fool me twice...
Damn...
Also reading the series prior and than this means everyone agrees with Jason.
Like we saw Percy fight for his life over and over and are just like... Oh you bitches gonna have a rude awakening when you face real monsters 💅🏽.
I have no idea what the quest would be but I'd want them to all line up to the next big prophecy.
Instead of it coming out of nowhere.
Hazel does come around but later on because of the doors and with her so does Nico.

top 5 vhawke moments <3 (whether that be vhawke in general or your own interpretation)
gasp!!! challenge accepted ;)c heuheuhehueuhe guess i have to ramble now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
the numero uno is always going to be returning the tethras signet ring, because um??? hello???????? helLO????? hey i found this. the last real remaining physical object connecting you to your family. i thought you'd probably want it. yeah, it's a ring. yeah, no, there's nothing symbolic about that. it's fine. it's cool. i know you thought you'd never see it again. yeah, don't mention it :) LIKE WHERE DO YOU EVEN START WITH THAT THO??? the two characters. who slowly but surely. have suffered the agonizing losses of every. last. member. of their families. hawke knows what that ring means. varric knows hawke knows. they joke about the whole thing to avoid admitting it. HOW AM I MEANT TO BE NORMAL ABOUT THIS BIOWARE?!
"you people have done enough to her." just. just dig a hole for me to lie in. bury me. the ANGER in varric's voice. throughout 2 and even up until then in da:i, he's our fun little guy. jokes galore. sure there are moments here or there where that facade breaks, but in that moment, that fight with cassandra? he is. pissed. and he is. tired. he watched kirkwall eat at hawke for so long, watched the chantry take more than its fair share, and here's cassandra, suggesting it still wasn't enough? that she should've been at the conclave too? that after everything the powers that be took from her, stole from her, ripped out of her, how dare he hide her from them to protect what was left??????????? screams
i don't know if it counts as a "moment" per se, but god. just. hard in hightown. in general. aslkdjfalksjdf i don't know who reads. any snippet of that story. and walks away with a conclusion other than "oh, so like, he's in love-in love, huh? all right.' laughter like chantry bells. eyes the color of jewels. the picture of elegance and beauty even when she's in mourning. i see you, varric tethras. i fucking see you.
"i skipped the parts about us." 🥺 i will never. ever. recover. from knowing what we could've had, lmaooooooooooooooo. PERSONALLY, i am...so in love with the idea of a vhawke romance being completely off-screen, all considering. like there's no world in which varric was going to tell cassandra the details of his and hawke's relationship, no way. not happening. that little wink at the end would've been all i needed, and so i refuse to let it go 😫
finally, this is...so small comparatively, but in da:i, once you finish everything leading up to here lies the abyss, hawke and varric just hang out together in front of the war room, and...idk man. idk. it touches my heart every time. it's such a tiny little moment, absolutely unimportant, but you see them standing together like that, and for a moment - just for a SECOND - it feels like they're just. together. and chatting. and things are okay. you know things aren't normal. they know things aren't normal. but there they are, pretending and hoping the way they've done a million times before. *sniff*

The Ultimate Showdown but it's the WordGirl Villains (Parody)
-----
Mariah The Energy Monster was hopping around Fair City like a big playground
When suddenly Twobrains bursted from the shade and hit Mariah with a rat grenade
Mariah got pissed and began to attack
But didn't expect to be blocked by Chuck
Who proceeded to pull out his condiment gun
When LRW came out of the blue
And she started beating up Chuck TESMG
Then they both got flattened by Twobrains' van
But before he could make it back to his lair
Royal Dandy popped out of his grave
And took an AK-47 out from under his crown
And blew Twobrains away with a rat-a-tat-tat
But he ran out of bullets and he ran away
Because WordGirl came to save the day
This is the ultimate showdown
Of ultimate destiny
Good guys, back guys, and explosions
As far as the eye can see
And only one will survive, I wonder who it will be
This is the ultimate showdown...
Of ultimate destiny.
Mariah took a bite out of Tobey's robots
And then LRW came back covered in a tire track
But Mr. Big jumped out and landed on her back
And Twobrains was injured and trying to get steady
When The Butcher came back with a machete
When suddenly something caught his leg and she tripped
Leslie tripped her with a whip
Then she saw Mariah sneaking up from behind
And she reached for her gun, which she just couldn't find
Cuz' Twobrains stole it and he shot and he missed
And Victoria deflected it with her fist
Then she jumped in the air and did a sumersault
While Tobey tried a pole vault
Onto his robots, but they collided in the air
Then they both got hit by Miss Power's laser stare
This is the ultimate showdown
Of ultimate destiny
Good guys, bad guys, and explosions
As far as the eye can see
And only one will survive, I wonder who it will be
This is the ultimate showdown...
Of ultimate destiny
Angels sang out in immaculate chorus
Down from the heavens
Descended Rhyme and Reason
Rhyme delivered a kick
Which could shatter bones
Into the chest
Of Miss Power
Who fell over on the ground, writhing in pain
As WordGirl changed back into Becky
But Rhyme and Reason saw through her clever disguise
And Rhyme crushed her head between her thighs
And Ms. Question
And Glen Furlblam
And Granny May
And The Coach
And Raul Demiglasse
And Invisi-Bill
And Eileen The Birthday Girl
And Big Left Hand Guy
And Chazz
And The Learnerer
And Amazing Rope Guy
And Seymour Orlando Smooth
And Nocan the Contrarian
And all the other villains I guess
All came out of nowhere lightning fast
And they kicked Rhyme and Reason in their best friends ass
It wss the bloodiest battle the world ever saw
With civilians looking on in total awe
The fire raged on for a century
Many lives were claimed, but eventually
The champion stood
The rest saw their better
Violet Heaslip in a bloodstained sweater.

Monday 4th December 2023
Hey journal so yesterday I started off my dad terribly couldn’t get out of bed and I felt so shit like it was so horrible. However after a while I managed to force myself out of work. Also worked called me to wonder where I was however I missed the call. So I decided to call them back and explained everything and they were really understanding. Then once I got to work work was very stressful yesterday. We were really understaffed again and to make matters worse we were understaffed again. Also I had a few rude customers again. Especially one. At one point I was on present and this guy came up the window and said he’s been waiting 20 minutes and he said it in a really rude manor. Then I asked for he’s number plate and he did not know it so he drove back so I could look at it. Anyways after a while we found and finished making up he’s food. Then we gave he’s food to him and he started asking what to so long again in a very rude manor again. Then he started looking through he’s food and he asked where he’s other set of pancakes were, yet again with an attitude. So then I asked for he’s receipt and it said he only ordered one set of pancakes. But in hopes for him to just piss of we gave him another set for free so he would go away. Anyways at this point he gave attitude again and was like where’s my extra syrup. So I told the managers and they gave him another ones and spoke to him and explained everything. Also this guy when at the window looked through one of he’s muffins and chucked and bit of bacon outside of he’s window which is just so disrespectful and out of order. There is no need to do that if you don’t like the bacon just put it in the next bin you see or at the bottom of your bag. After work yesterday I got changed then spoke to some people at work for a bit. Then I went to the bus stop and waited for the bus. At the bus was someone from my work who had just left work as well and they were with her boyfriend. Anyways I waved at her and then continued listening to my music. Then after a while she offered me some food. Well she had her hands shut then dropped them in my hand. Then I spoke to them a little. Then we all got on the bus, we all sat near each other and then we all had a chat about work and I learned that the boyfriend works at a restaurant. Also he tried to apply for are macdonalds but got denied a role. But to be fair he seemed like a really nice and smart guy. I could also imagine him being and very good worker just from speaking to him. Then after a while I got off the bus and said goodbye to them both. I then went to the gym and did a session where I focused a little bit on my back and biceps however mainly focused on my forearms. After the gym I went and asked reception if they had any lost property ear phones that are red as my mate came with me yesterday and lost them at the gym. Anyways she showed some in a red case then I rang him and then I messaged him and asked him whether they were he’s earphones as I sent him a photo. He said yes and was really shocked that no one just stole them. After this I said goodbye and then went and waited for my mum outside. I they spoke to my dad and spoke to him about football as he was watching Tottenham at the time. Then after a little while my mum turned up then we went to Maccies to get us all some food. Once there we ordered food. Then after getting are food we went home and I had my food upstairs. Then after a while I went downstairs and watched a little bit of the rest of the Tottenham game. We ended up drawing with Man City which is a good result for us. After this I played some of the new Fortnite season and the movement is so fucking weird I do not like it at all. It is so slow and fucked. Also the shotguns are shit. After a couple hours. I ended up falling asleep with my light on then waking up this morning. This morning I have done my documenting my mental health video and wrote in here but that’s about it. Anyways speak to you later journal.

Wakey wakey! No surprise first up is Kiara! Who thrives in her energized moodlets. Though at the moment it’s now supreme confidence from making a masterpiece art. I still sold it though. Zayne wakes up not long after, and gets his own breakfast of his own. And then it’s an hour until work and school for Ashlynn and the kids. With all active careers and work-from-home’s, I go into work every other day, so today is a day to not follow Ashlynn. Hopefully work goes better for her! And now it’s an hour til Santiago goes as well. Eh, let’s just clean dishes up and do whatever. Annnd it’s power conservation day. Welp, we’ll see how this affects the kids when they come home from school.
Kiara’s first whim is to...become creative. With a 9 hour confidence moodlet, I don’t think that’s happening but I’ll go ahead and do a yoga that specifically calls for inspired moodlets. After she makes herself a pb and j for a post school munch. Santiago is back from work annnnd wants to get a promotion. Well he needs to go somewhere outside of this house to do so. After the yoga. Ashlynn’s back from work annnnnd she’s pissed. Because yep. To the library with Santiago!
We are at the library and we are writing out as the sun sets in Strangerville. It’s rather nice out. And people keep wanting to chat with Santiago but we refuse! For it’s simply time to write! And we write a masterpiece! Congrats to Santiago! Now let’s nab some munchies at the bar before we head home to crash. Pretzel and- SOMEONE STOLE MY DRINK OUT FROM ME! RUDE! And then someone else stole it from them! Unfortunately, we can do nothing but yell at them before we head home. We got work schedules to work with here. Now everyone! To bed! Except for  you Kiara, you got needs that need sorted. And at 4AM she finally sleeps. Meaning it’s time for-!
Neighborhood Watch!
Armand DiAggro in the DiMaggio household has died. Armand blushed so much he exploded.
RIP trailer sims that I liked. Never got to live properly before death took them.
Junko Saito in the Saito household left her job as an Engineering Intern in the Engineer career.
Antoinette Urban in the Urban household has died. Antoinette fell for a cowplant’s cake bait. She could not have her cake and eat it too.
Britechester: The Allen household recently moved out.
We continue onwards! Zayne is up first! Two hours until school! And Ashlynn wakes up with an hour to go. And feeling an achy back. Welp. Let’s nom a bit on a yogurt before we head off! ...likely still hungry but alas. At least she took it with her into work. Now it’s time for day 2 in which we get into the real unpleasant work of being an officer of the law. Patroling. AND SHE AUTOMATICALLY TRIED TO SWIPE SOMETHING UPON LOADING INTO THE LOT. Ho boy. And now I keep a bird’s-eye view on the entire lot, to see if anyone makes any funny business. Either littering or picking fights. Hmm...if I pick a fight...can I give a citation? Nope! Fair! I did instigate it! ...which basically went down to just two people aruging in the street and then nothing else. Other than us being very rude to an alien. A fight didn’t happen until just a few moments before work ended! I hasitly had her stay late to issue the citation. And then we could finally return to the police station….
Or not. We got a massive error. Shit. ...we just lost the last few days! RIIIIIIIP! So this post and the last one are completely negated! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp. Fun. We’ll end it off here everyone.

Okay confession time. Every time Chris says mate, I read it in an Aussie accent... DON'T JUDGE!
Hahahahaha! That's funnuy! 🤣🤣🤣 But I 100% get where you're coming from bc he says it in an Auzzie accent in my head as well! Even though this is a turn of phrase I stole from my hubby (who's British 🤣)
Lol, I probably would be too scared to enter a place like that.... even if it smelt like good bacon!
So, fun fact - this dive is 100% based on an actual place I went to in Vancouver. I arrived on the first flight in and needed breakfast, so I googled 'best breakfast places' and this place came up - went to it and was like 'erm... this can't be right...' (exactly as I described in the fic) but the food was sooooo good 😆 So, never judge a book by its cover!
How on earth did they get him through the door?!?! lmao!
Max probably shoved/dragged him in 🤣
Tumblr media
I love how they all start trolling him, haha!
Tumblr media
Their banter! Actually, Drake's snark is hilarious alongside pretty much everyone. Especially, Leo, Max and Tariq
Thanks! This entire sequence pretty much just wrote itself 😆 I love it when the guys just get to be guys and piss around lol
And Leo...I just can't! How are he and Chris even from the same stock?!?!
Leo is a helluva lot more laid back than Chris is - and I HC that he's had a lot more extra-curricular experiences (e.g. like the volcano climbing, the camel episode in the desert that I referenced in the previous chapter, etc.) so he just has a very different approach to life in general
Leo is referring to Harper as Swifty? Becuase he thinks she looks like Taylor Swift? Yeah, this has likely come up already, but my memory is bad
Yes, it's Leo's nickname for Harper (primarily bc they are both blonde lol) Introduced in the karaoke chapter 😇
You've already had more than your fair share this MORNING, Walker!
Or not... you know... 😅
Tumblr media
MAX! I thought you were better than that!
That gif 🤣🤣🤣 In my mind it's not bc Max is pervy or anything - he's just an exhibitionist and documents everything that he does with photos and videos (even sex - especially when it's kind of out of the box sex like in this case lol)
I'm also a little disappointed in Chris, Never took him for the hit-n-go type.
It's not by choice - it's kind of referenced in the interaction with Drake when they're waiting for the lift in the hotel, but Chris doesn't really want to say good-bye to Hayley, which is why he doesn't wake her. Because the convo would be awkward and heart-wrenching. Bc at this point, it hasn't occurred to him that he could ask Hayley to come to Cordonia (bc he has been raised with the expectation that he would have to choose a wife during the social season, and she would be a noblewoman).
YES YOU HAVE!!!!!!
🤣 Good thing Drake is fictional, otherwise I feel you'd be coming after him with pitchforks and knives right now!
That mental image!
Lol this whole sequence went down with a few people 😆
Tumblr media
Although, it would have been hilarious if they had left him behind!
Agreed - and that was the plan... but the guy decided to show up at the last minute, much to everyone's disgust lol
NO NO NO! WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO MEEEE?!?!?!? Now the series is almost finished and he's never gonna see Harper again!
Those gifs....!
Tumblr media
...but we have one chapter left... and anything could happen!
Tumblr media
Thanks so much for reading, liking and emoting! 🥰
Sleepless in New York: Chapter 12 - Hungover on You
Tumblr media
Series: TRR
Pairing: Drake Walker x F!OC (Harper Gale)
Synopsis: This is a short-story series written from Drake’s POV that explores an AU where Drake meets Harper (my OC from (Un)Common Attraction) by himself before the boys come to the bar on the last night of Christian’s bachelor party.
Masterlist: Sleepless in New York
Chapter Summary: The time has come to fly back home... but who won the bet?
Word Count: 6,800
Rating/Warnings: E (swearing, aggravation, references to graphic images, references to sex, references to bodily functions, toilet humour, motive for murder, way too much caffeine)
Chapter theme song:
A/N1: Thank you so much for bearing with me! This chapter was supposed to be done quickly but then it suddenly exploded into the almost 7,000-word monster that you see before you (I blame Leo 😆). Hopefully, the contents make up for the longer-than-planned wait! There will be one more chapter.
A/N2: As an FYI, everything that is mentioned is true/correct/accurate. Yes, everything! You'll know what I mean when you get to it! 🙃
Chapter 12 - Hungover on You
Tumblr media
"Mmm... You're right... These pancakes are heavenly...!" enthuses Max 'round an overstuffed gob.
"I have to admit, I may have been skeptical at first, given the somewhat... dated nature of the décor," admits Chris, skewering the last bite of his own stack, "but I am very glad that I did not allow first impressions to sway me, and to instead let the delights of the fare speak for itself."
I throw him a sidelong glance. "I told you to trust me, didn't I?"
"That you did, mate," Chris chuckles good-naturedly. "That you did."
"Drake always finds the best food," sighs Max as he closes his eyes in blissful appreciation.
I shrug nonchalantly. If you know where to look...
Having hit up Times Square and snapping the obligatory pic or two — it's the end of the trip... fuck it — I'd heeded Chris' final request for this trip by tracking down somewhere we could fuel up before our fast-approaching flight home.
And given the questionable-looking nature of our chosen venue, Chris' initial trepidation had been more than understandable.
Because from the outside — but for the tell-tale smell of bacon wafting out onto the street — this joint looks more like an illicit drug den than a bona fide restaurant. The single-paned window that faces the street has a massive crack in it, the doorway stinks of stale urine, and I wouldn't be surprised if a dead body or two had ended up in the dumpster 'round the back.
The inside's not much better, either. It's a cheap, no-frills galley-kitchen kind of set-up manned by a single, overweight chef who pumps out eggs, bacon, pancakes and hash browns in massive portions while you sit on the other side of the greasy, Lino-covered counter on creaky, '60's bar stools, sipping fully-leaded coffee from chipped mugs.
In short, the complete antithesis of the polished and slightly over-glammed feel of the retro, 1950s diner we ate at yesterday.
And that's why I picked it. Because after having been up the whole night, we need something to sub-in for our lack of sleep, and nothing tastes better than comfort food when you're craving a calorie hit. Plus, Chris had wanted a 'classic' Stateside breakfast experience, and it doesn't get much more Americana than this...
"What is all that sticky goop that it's swimming in?"
...except for the fact that I have Tariq sitting on the other side of me, complaining loudly about every-damn-thing that offends his toffee-nosed sensibilities.
Because as per usual, I can't seem to take two steps in this goddamn city without the Almighty crapping on me.
Our butts had just hit the stools when Chris' phone began lighting up with a million-and-one messages from Max asking where we were, what the plan was, and was there any food anywhere.
So, Chris (being Chris), had extended the breakfast invite to not only Max, but to the rest of our band of noble misfits, meaning that our laid-back outing has now morphed into a real-life rendition of The Breakfast Club.
I suppress a groan as I take another swig of my scalding coffee, careful not to move my mouth too much, given that — on top of everything — my jaw has set into exactly the kind of contused stiffness that I'd hoped to avoid.
My own damn fault for not icing the damn thing down when I had the chance...
The only person missing is Leo.
Not that I really care. I've had enough of that guy and his BS for one trip. And the main reason I haven't decked him yet for the shit he pulled last night is because I haven't actually seen him since Gale and I got booted from the club.
And I don't want to ruin Chris' last hour in the Big Apple by knocking his brother's teeth out.
The same can't be said for Tariq, though...
"It's maple syrup, Besnard..." I grunt at him, trying to maintain my focus on the viscous caffeine in my hand, and not the half-a-dozen ways in which I could smash the asshole's face into the countertop.
Because after the steady stream of crap that's hit the fan in the past 36 hours, the only thing keeping me on this side of sane right now is the free-refill mugs of coffee that I've been pouring into myself since we sat down.
Which means that my mood's dancing on a hair trigger, and I'm one stupid comment away from committing violence.
The chef'd probably thank me, though...
Tariq flashes me a disgusted look. "Maple syrup...? You mean tree sap? That is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard of!"
"A lot of things come from trees, dipshit..." I mutter, forcing myself to keep staring at the wall ahead.
Tariq scoffs. "Why would—?"
"Cinnamon is obtained from the inner bark of various South and South East Asian tree species," Chris reminds him.
"And cloves are the dried aromatic flower buds of the clove tree," adds Max, chewing loudly on a ketchup-coveted tater-tot.
Tariq glares down the counter disdainfully. "What are you lot? Walking encyclopaedias...?"
"We just know where our food comes from, Besnard," I grind out around the rim of my mug. "As would you if you ever bothered to step outside."
"Where it comes from is irrelevant," comes the derisive clap-back. "The only thing that matters is the price tag."
"Even when it's been through the digestive tract of a wild animal?" interjects Max with a perfectly straight face.
Tariq nearly spews his over-steeped tea across the room. "What!"
"Certain brands of coffee demand a premium price because of their somewhat... exotic processing process," affirms Chris. "For instance, Kopi Luwak is the most exclusive coffee in the world primarily because it comes from beans that have been consumed and then excreted by the Indonesian palm civet."
Tariq's eyes bulge. "Excreted... As in—?"
"Pooped out," confirms Max gleefully. "Through tiny little butt holes."
Tariq looks like he's about to puke.
"That is correct," continues Chris. "The bile in the civet's digestive system causes the fermentation of—"
Tariq bolts from his chair.
"Lemme guess..." I drawl, turning to face the other two. "The fuck stick's just realised that he's willingly subjected himself to this fancy ass coffee."
"Ass being the operative word..." sniggers Max as he mops up the escaped yolk from his sunny-side-up eggs with a piece of over-buttered toast.
"Yes," laughs Chris, reaching for his own mug of coffee. "He accompanied his father on a business trip to Indonesia last year where he was given the 'Holy Grail' of coffees as a gift..."
"...not realising what it actually was," I snort. "Typical."
The door of the dive creaks open.
"Speaking of typical..." I muttered under my breath as I glance over my shoulder and catch sight of the familiar figure who's just stepped through the entranceway.
"Hey, hey, hey, party people!" greets Leo as he saunters up to us like he doesn't have a care in the world...
...Oh, wait. He never does.
"Glad you could make it!" smiles Chris as he gets up from his stool to clasp his brother's hand in his own. "I was starting to think maybe you lost your phone again."
"I did, as a matter of fact," confirms Leo with a lop-sided grin, fist-pumping Max as he flops down into Tariq's now-vacant seat.
Chris frowns. "But then how—?"
"DiCaprio took pity on me and gave me a new one he had lying around his flat... Which, I have to say, is pretty sweet."
Max is gaping in starry-eyed admiration. "You got to go to famous Leo's apartment? Jealous!"
"No party like the after-party! And that man knows how to party. Oh! Bacon!" the elder Rys exclaims, suddenly laying eyes on Tariq's abandoned plate.
Chris still looks confused. "But if you lost your phone—"
"The magic of the eSIM, baby!" declares Leo with a full mouth as he brandishes a brand-new iPhone into the air. "Been using it for years! Why d'you think my number never changes?"
Chris opens, then closes his mouth. "Fair point."
"Glad to see you haven't lost your touch, Walker," continues Leo with a shit-eating grin as he elbows me in the ribs. "This place is the perfect spot to get daytime murdered in!"
"Careful what you wish for, Rys..." I mutter under my breath.
"Good bacon, though!" he quips, filching another rasher.
"We can order you a helping if you're hungry..." offers Chris.
"Nah, I'm good," replies Leo, dunking the bacon into some syrup. "Grabbed a bagel on the way from this awesome little Jewish place. Do you know that they even—?"
"Oh, dear God...!" gasps Tariq, bursting back into the dining area with a horrified look on his face. "That restroom is disgusting!"
I clench my eyes shut. Sweet Jesus give me strength...
"I admit it smelled a bit funky," concedes Max, "but nothing worse than when Bertrand—"
"There is excrement floating in the toilet bowl!" Tariq all but shrieks.
"Lemme guess..." I murmur to Chris under my breath. "He didn't know how that shit got made either."
Chris' eyes bulge as his coffee goes down the wrong way.
"That is generally what happens when you take a dump," Max tells him prosaically.
"It wasn't mine!!"
"Hate to break it to you, old sport," intones Leo, laying a hand on Besnard's shoulder, "but not every pisser flushes itself. So, you're going to have t—"
"No!" interjects Tariq, shoving Leo's arm away. "I refuse to go back in there! In fact, I've had it with this entire establishment, this entire city, and this entire bloody trip! Everybody is rude, nobody respects me, and I have suffered enough denigration to last me a lifetime! I am leaving!"
Throwing his nose into the air, he turns on the heel of his treadless Ferragamo loafers to stomp out of the diner.
"Christ!" huffs Leo as he jerks a derisive thumb in Tariq's direction. "Who pissed in his Earl Grey?"
"Oh, he's just miffed because he knows he lost the bet last night," supplies Max 'round a mouthful of toast.
Leo perks up. "What bet?"
"Oh, for fuck's sake..." I groan.
I'd completely forgotten 'bout the stupid bet...
"He does know that the hotel is in the other... direction..." coughs Chris, having finally managed to clear the wayward coffee from his lungs. "Doesn't he?"
"I wouldn't bet on it," I mutter, watching Tariq nearly get run over by an early morning cab as he tries to cross the street. "If we're lucky, he'll end up in Brooklyn again."
Chris starts hacking all over again as he tries and fails to stifle a laugh. "You're a...horrible person..."
"But I'm not wrong," I tell him, pointedly lifting my mug to my mouth again.
"Screw the sour-arsed sod!" cries Leo. "I want to know about this bet! And why I wasn't included on it!"
"You weren't there," I tell him tersely. "Plus, you'd've been ineligible anyway."
"Why would I—?" The proverbial lightbulb clicks to life in Leo's head. "Ooh! It was a race to fourth base, wasn't it?"
"Congrats, Sherlock," I grunt. "You've graduated to deductive reasoning..."
"Not just a pretty face, Walker," winks Leo in reply.
I roll my eyes as I return my attention to my coffee.
"But who's the winner...?" Leo continues contemplatively, eyeing the rest of us.
Max opens his mouth...
"No! Don't tell me!" decrees Leo, shoving a hand into the Beaumont's face. "I wasn't included in the bet, so I demand some vicarious recompense! I'm going to guess!"
"How—?" starts Chris.
"By using my incomparable situational awareness, sprinkled with just a smidge of mind-reading!"
"Sounds mystical..." admits Chris.
"Oh, it is! Prepare to be amazed!"
"I'm ready!" shouts Max like an overeager five-year old.
My head falls down between my arms with a pained groan. Somebody just shoot me...
"Alrighty, then," declares Leo, rubbing his hands together with an ungodly dose of perverse satisfaction. "So, we know for a fact that Toss-Pot Besnard never made it out the gate, and—"
"How are you so certain?" asks Chris with a frown.
"For a start, it's Tariq," I mutter at him from the greasy countertop. "Plus, if by some miracle he had managed to pull, he'd've been bragging about it as soon as he walked in."
"True..." Chris concedes with a laugh.
"But, more importantly," adds Max, "Lucy and Jamie — the two girls he'd been after — ended up taking me home last night."
My head snaps up so fast, I nearly give myself whiplash. "They fucking what?"
"You heard me!" grins Max like the Grinch who stole Christmas.
"Hayley and Harper's friends..." reiterates Chris carefully. "You slept with both of them?"
"Yup!" comes the cocky affirmation.
"Well, fuck me running..." I scoff with a shake of my head.
Though I can't seem to stop an involuntary smirk from pulling at my mouth. Because that shit? That's impressive.
"Yes, gold star to Baby Beaumont," agrees Leo with a grin, slapping Max on the back. "But did he seal the deal before my little brother? That's the million-dollar question..."
"What about Drake?" interjects Chris. "He and Harper—"
"Oh, Walker didn't score!" laughs Leo.
Chris' eyes widen as he turns back to me. "You didn't? But you were the first to leave."
"Not by choice..." I admit sourly.
"Captain America here got his arse handed to him by a couple of beefcakes..." Leo explains.
"Fuck you, Rys!" I snap. "It was five against one and I still held my ground!"
"It was you who got caught up in that fight?" gasps Max. "That looked brutal..."
"It would certainly explain the bruises on your face," muses Chris, eyeing me critically. "And the ripped shirt."
I make a vague noise by way of reply. But I don't bother to correct him. The details aren't important. They lead to the same result.
Not that that's anybody's business...
"...and promptly got tossed out the club with Swifty in tow," continues Leo cheerfully. "Which I'm guessing is the reason why she wasn't willing to put out, because—"
I shoot off the stool, shattering the mug in my hand in the process. "Mention her one more time, Rys, and I swear to God—"
"Wait, wait, wait, wait!" interjects Max with a frantic wave of his hands. "If he left with Harper, how do you know that he didn't—?"
Leo jabs an uncompromising finger into my face. "Does this look like the expression of a man who'd spent the night warmly cocooned by the soft embrace of a woman's supple and welcoming thighs?"
I slap his hand away with a growl.
"Hmm..." muses Max, narrowing his eyes at me. "Now that you mention it... He does seem surprisingly grouchy this morning. Even more so than he was last night..."
"Beaumont..." I warn.
"Whereas my little brother is positively glowing!" continues Leo, fanning his hands around Chris by way of illustration. "Tell me you don't see the difference!"
"Fuck you, both," I grunt, slinging myself down into the barstool again.
A fresh mug of coffee appears before me, as if by magic.
I grab for it tersely. Where's the whiskey when you need it...?
"I rest my case," declares Leo smugly. "Which means, it's down to Lord Three-Way Beaumont and Prince Pull-Hard Charming. But who took their ladies to Heaven first...?"
"It doesn't matter," I grunt abrasively. "Max isn't in the running."
"I am afraid he is correct," Chris agrees after a second's reflection, glancing at Max. "No one backed you, so—"
"Rubbish!" objects Leo loudly. "The sheer act of the ménage à trois should guarantee him a spot in the champions' league, if not the entirety of the pot outright!"
"Except he's not the one who gets the money," I point out. "It's the person who ponied him."
"Christ, if it's that much of an issue, I'll punt him!" declares Leo. "What were the stakes?"
"Eight hundred ducats," Max tells him.
"Done," Leo declares, pulling his wallet out to drop a handful of Ben Franklins on the counter.
Chris meets my eye. "Your call, Drake. It's your money on the line."
I flick my eyes between Max and Chris, before letting out a low breath. "Fuck it. Let's make it interesting."
Pulling my own wallet out, I slap the requisite cash down as well.
Because worst case? I'm out of pocket $500. But best case? I net four times that. And I'm my book, that's a play worth making. Especially when my money's on Chris.
"That's my man!" whoops Leo, punching me enthusiastically in the arm.
"Careful, Rys," I warn him as Chris and Max add their contributions to the purse as well. "It's your dough I'm about to walk away with..."
"Eh..." shrugs Leo unconcernedly. "Money's relative."
"Spoken like a born-and-bred fat cat," I reply dryly.
"And now for the big reveal!" shouts Leo, clapping his hands together. "The stakes are set. The buttocks are clenched. Who takes the crown of Don Juan?"
Chris and Max exchange wry looks.
"What time did you get back to the hotel?" Max asks.
"Just after midnight, I believe..."
"Twelve thirty-five," I tell him.
Max's feet start dancing beneath him. "Oh, this is going to be close! We got back to the girls' flat around half-past as well."
"Sod all that!" cries Leo. "Get to the climax, gents! We want to know who got slob on their knob first!"
"Well, after we got back to the suite, we shared a drink before we..." Chris clears his throat. "...retired to the bedroom. So, perhaps 1am?"
"Yeah-yah!" enthuses Leo with a snap of his fingers. "Bring it home like a pro, bro!"
"Not sure why you're rooting for him," I scoff.
"I am permitted to share in my little brother's sex-tastic accomplishments!" he counters. "Especially when I'm the one who taught him everything he knows!"
"Except now, it's about to leave you out of pocket," I smirk, reaching for the pile of cash.
"Hold on!" interjects Max, scrolling furiously through his phone. "I think I have Christian beat!"
I frown. "How in the—?"
"Watch it and weep!" the Beaumont exclaims triumphantly, thrusting his phone out.
Leaning in towards the device — from the speakers of which spew the unmistakably pornographic sounds of sex — Leo, Chris, and I are greeted with a bird's eye view of Max balling Lucy from behind while she went down on Jamie's spread-eagled form on the bed.
Leo's jaw drops. "You filmed it?"
"Would've been rude not to," smirks Max.
"You dirty bugger!" laughs Leo, grabbing the Beaumont to noogie him.
I pull my eyes away from the X-rated spectacle. "Okay, but how does this—?"
"Look at the...time stamp," prompts Max from beneath Leo's arm.
Glancing back at the screen, I focus in on the tiny numbers at the top.
12:52am.
My shoulders slump. "Goddamn it."
"Looks like we have our winner," Chris concedes with a wry chuckle.
"You're not even going to contest it?" I demand, throwing an accusatory hand out at Max.
"I am not sure there is anything to contest," replies Chris. "The numbers speak for themselves. And since Maxwell is the only one out of the two of us who had the foresight to record the exact timing of the event, I think it is only fair that he takes the pot."
"Yeah, baby!" whoops Leo, jumping off his stool with outstretched arms to thrust out an in-your-face victory dance à la Ace Ventura. "Can you feel it? Can... you... feel it?! Damn, it feels good!"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever..." I grunt with a roll of my eyes.
But, Leo's asinine antics aside, I have to hand it to Max. Not only did the guy manage to go above and beyond, but he somehow managed to beat the clock as well.
So, I can't begrudge second place too much.
"I believe this is rightfully yours, big brother," declares Chris, graciously handing the pile of bills over.
"Why, thank you, little brother!" grins Leo as he accepts the winnings with a mock bow...
...before studiously dumping the cash into Max's lap.
The Beaumont's eyes widen in disbelief. "I— But you— I didn't—"
"Hey, I wasn't the one with my pants down on the front lines last night," he says. "So, if anyone deserves the spoils of war, it's you."
Max is still gawping like a stupefied goldfish. "But—"
"Spend it well, kemosabe," the elder Rys incants somberly, laying a hand on Max's shoulder.
"Th-thank you," stammers Max, suddenly overcome with unexpected emotion.
"Ehh... Don't mention it!" shrugs Leo with a grin. "I'm just here for the memories. Though... speaking of, if you want your lasting memories of this trip to be anything other than dear Father sending a squadron of Guards after you to haul you back across the Pond, I suggest you get your tushes to the airport."
"Oh, shit..." I cuss, glancing down at my watch. "We gotta move." Necking the last of my coffee, I signal for the cheque.
"Are you flying back with us?" asks Chris as he pushes himself off his stool.
"Nah," demurs Leo, reaching across his brother to grab the final piece of bacon off Tariq's plate. "As much as I'd love to steal your thunder by gate-crashing yet another fancy ball that I don't have an invitation to, you know Regina still hasn't revoked that shoot-on-sight order she put out on my head last year."
Chris laughs. "I'm sure it's not all that bad..."
"You'd be surprised!" insists Leo with only a touch of sardonicism. "Plus, I promised Katie that I'll bring her back a box of cronuts. So, I got a few errands to run before I jet out."
"Well, in that case," replies Chris, reaching out to envelop his brother in a hug, "thank you for coming, and we'll hopefully see each other soon!"
"You can bet on it, matey," confirms Leo, giving Chris a heartfelt thump on the back before pulling away. "At the Coronation, if nothing else."
Chris' eyes widen. "Father signed off on your attendance?"
"Not yet," the elder Rys admits. "But I'm slowing wearing the old man down."
"Well, I — for one — certainly hope you succeed!" laughs Chris.
"I have faith in myself," winks Leo. Leaning past Chris, he reaches out to bump knuckles with Max. "Beaumont. Say hi to Bert for me."
"Will do," nods Max. "And thank you. Again. You really didn't—"
"Like I said," Leo deflects with an arrant smirk. "Don't even mention it."
Max nods gratefully.
Finally, Leo turns to me. "Walker."
I meet his eye impassively as I draw myself up to my full height to face him. "Rys."
"You got his six, right?" he asks, inclining his head almost imperceptibly back towards his brother, who — true to his earlier promise — is in the process of intercepting the bill before it can make it to me.
"Come hell or high water," I affirm.
"Good," he nods, his expression uncharacteristically tight. "'Cause there's going to be both. And he'll need someone to help pull him through."
"This ain't my first rodeo, Leo," I remind him, watching Chris trying to figure out which greenback was which with Max's help as he sought to pay for our breakfast.
"I know," acknowledges Leo, his face tightening as the memories of the fallout from the assassination attempt flash through his memory. "But I still appreciate it. He is my only brother, after all."
I meet his eye. "Then you know why I'm doing it."
Leo holds my gaze for a long moment before extending his hand. "You're a good friend, Drake."
"Someone's gotta be," I tell him with a wry smile, reciprocating the gesture.
Leo might grate me up the wrong way with his bad jokes and juvenile attitude, but we are — and always have been — on the same page when it comes to Chris.
"They're rarer than you think," Leo murmurs softly. Dropping my hand, he turns back to Chris and Max, who have finally managed to settle the bill, plus tip. "Ciao, amigos! It's been a blast!"
"Have a good flight!" Chris tells him with a wave.
"I always do!" Leo assures him. "Stay safe, little brother. Give the ladies a fair chance, don't do anything I wouldn't—"
I scoff. "Is there even such a thing?"
"—and remember," Leo continues unabashedly, "if you're ever in doubt, there's always the balcony!"
Chris stifles a laugh. "I'm sure it won't come to that..."
"Never underestimate the beauty of a Plan B!" Leo hollers over his shoulder as he pulls the rickety door open, and steps out onto the street.
Max stares after him with a perplexed look. "When he said 'balcony'... Did he mean you jumping off it, or you throwing the lady off?"
"I wouldn't read into it too much," I advise as I grab my leather jacket to pull it on. Turning to Chris I ask, "You good?"
"Yes, I think I managed to sort the bill..." he replies, pulling his own jacket on as well. "Fifty percent gratuity is acceptable here, right?"
I nearly dislocate my shoulder putting my arm into a non-existent sleeve. "Erm... Yeah. Sure. More than acceptable."
Christmas definitely came early for this waitress!
But at least the hefty tip would help smooth over any wayward resentment left in the wake of Tariq's ass-like behaviour.
Chris' face visibly relaxes. "Oh, good! I wasn't sure of the correct etiquette."
"Trust me," I drawl, opening the creaky door. "You ain't never gonna fall flat in that department."
"If you say so," concedes Chris with a smile as he and Max follow me out onto the street.
"I know so," I assure him, leading the way back to Broadway.
At just gone 7am on a weekday, the city is already a hive of activity with cyclists, taxis, and pedestrians vying for position on the thoroughfares against the buses, garbage trucks, and private vehicles, as everyone tries to get where they're going just that much faster.
My gaze tracks west almost on auto-pilot. Wonder what Gale's doing... Is she still asleep, or—?
I yank myself forcefully back from the precipice of that dead-end drift.
The only thing that matters right now is getting Chris and Max (...Tariq could go fuck himself) back to the hotel and then getting 'cross town to Teterboro in time for scheduled departure.
Leo hadn't been joking when he'd said that Constantine would not hesitate to unleash a squadron of King's Guard on our tails if we didn't arrive back in Cordonia by the agreed time.
That had been the agreement.
Because the first event of the season kicks off tomorrow with the Masquerade Ball, and Chris has a full week's worth of engagements penciled into the twelve hours beforehand.
Which means that there can be zero deviations, zero slippages. We have to be on that plane...
...even though that's the last thing any of us want to do right now.
Because glancing back at Chris and Max as we make our way up back to the hotel, it's clear that New York has been a much-needed escape for both of them. Not just from the daily grind of court, but also from the strictures of expectation. As here, you weren't your name, or your title, or your birthright.
You were just another guy on the street, trying to make your American dream come true.
And despite — or rather, because of — their stations, that's a privilege that neither Chris nor Max have ever had the luxury of experiencing before. Because even though they may have all the money in the world, one thing they could not buy with it is freedom — true freedom. As money garnered expectations and expectations choked you out like chains around your neck.
And that was life's unfair trade-off...
...unless you were Leo, who somehow managed to screw the pooch into laying him a golden egg by finding a woman who was apparently not only worth abdicating for, but who also turned out to be loaded in her own right, thanks to a very generous inheritance provision in her grandmother's will.
And because that money came with zero strings attached, the lucky bastard got to have it all: living it up large, while also getting to flip the rules and regulations that he's always hated the bird.
But, unfortunately for the rest of us mere mortals who weren't born with the luck of the devil, the best we can hope for are those rare moments in between when the constraints of your usual life fall away, and you're rewarded with a much-needed breath of levity.
And maybe that's why I'd fallen so hard and fast for Gale. Because irrespective of the magnetic pull she had on me, she wasn't just some hot girl I'd happened to hit it off with. And while undeniable, the deep seated attraction went beyond the mere physical... or even the personal.
Because beyond the fact that she was gorgeous, funny, and knocked me for six at every turn, she was more than just simple perfection. She was the sweet promise of possibility. Tantalising me with a taste of what could've been in a world free of obligation. Where I was just me — not an undercover Guard, not a duty-bound friend to a prince, not a jaded outsider confined to the sidelines, always looking in.
But as entrancing as the experience had been, I know it couldn't last.
Because such moments are — by their nature — transient. And like a pre-dawn mist on the water, they dissolve with the first light of the sun.
Just like our time in the States.
Which means that it's time to return to reality. Whether we want to or not.
Because duty always calls.
Arriving back at the hotel, I see that the pre-arranged limo is already idling next to the curb.
Detouring by the driver's side window, I have a quick word with the chauffeur to let him know that we'll be back down in a sec with our bags.
Turning to lope into the hotel, I catch up with Chris and Max just as the lift arrives in the lobby. The doors ping open and we pile in to make our way up to our floor, each of us lost in our respective thoughts.
The elevator arrives on our booked-out floor and we disperse into our rooms to throw our shit together. While packing, I send a text to Schweitzer to let him know that we're bugging out, so his team can start the clean-up and check out.
Zipping my duffle up, I do one last sweep of the space before grabbing the keycard and exiting the room for the final time.
Stepping back out into the corridor as the door clicks shut behind me, I find Chris already waiting for a lift.
"You were quick," I say, coming to a stop next to him.
"Wasn't much to pack," he admits.
"Hayley still there?"
"Yes, she's sleeping," he confirms with a ghost of a smile. "I couldn't bring myself to wake her."
I nod wordlessly. Good-byes suck. They're either gut-wrenching, or awkward, or both. Best to just—
"Will...you be back?" "I wouldn't hold my breath." "Maybe I want to."
The ding of the elevator knocks me back into the present.
Shaking my head, I step into the car after Chris. But for some reason, I can't seem to duck the sudden sense of emptiness that's dropped into my guts. Like I'd forgotten something... Even though I know I haven't.
I rub my eyes. I'm just beat...
I'm about to hit the button for the lobby when Max careens in out of nowhere to throw himself through the wedge between the doors, Gucci backpack dangling haphazardly from his arm.
"Oh, thank God!" he pants, falling gracelessly into the small space. "Thought you'd left already!"
"We wouldn't dream of leaving without you, dear friend," Chris assures him with a laugh.
"Speak for yourself," I grunt abrasively as the doors finally close. "You fall behind, you get left behind."
Max's eyes widen. "You wouldn't!"
I meet his gaze impassively. "Try me."
"But Tariq—"
"—can find his own damn way home," I cut in flatly. "If he ain't buckled up by last and final call, that plane's not waiting for him."
Max flicks his horrified gaze from me to Chris.
Chris shrugs. "Drake is correct. It is unfortunately too short notice to modify the flight plan and—"
Throwing his head down, Max begins typing away furiously on his phone.
"You're wasting you're time, Beaumont," I tell him with a low exhale. "Regardless of where the fuck-wit is, he'll still need to come back to the hotel to get his passport, if nothing else. He ain't gonna make it."
"But we can't just abandon him!"
"He's a grown-ass man," I grunt dispassionately in response as we hit the ground floor again. "If he can't be bothered to look at his overpriced Rolex, then that's his problem. Not mine."
"Chances are he is waiting for us at the terminal already," advises Chris optimistically.
"But—"
"Drop it, Beaumont," I grunt, grabbing my duffel to march out of the elevator car without a backwards glance.
I have no clue why Max is being so hard up about waiting for the dipshit who wasn't even supposed to be on this trip in the first place. Especially since that same dipshit also happens to be in possession of a gold credit card.
So, I really couldn't give a flying fuck if Besnard missed the flight. He can pay for his own charter home.
I'm not about to jeopardise Chris' commitments for the benefit of a self-absorbed prick.
Exiting the lobby, I beat a straight line to the back of the waiting limo. The chauffeur spots my approach and scrambles to open the door, but I've already beaten him to it.
Popping the trunk, I toss my duffle in before making my way to the front to grab the shotgun seat while Chris and Max offload their own bags.
A slam of doors, a click of seatbelts and we're pulling out onto 57th St., only ten minutes behind schedule.
I try to settle down for the half-hour drive, but I find my knee jackhammering impatiently. I know we have plenty of time to spare before takeoff, but I hate running late. Even if it's only by a minute.
Because you never what kind of shit's gonna hit the fan — roadworks, lane closure, freeway pileup — and you can't mitigate if you ain't got any time in the bank.
I can only hope and pray that we don't run into any last-minute surprises on the 15 or so miles to the airport.
Chris strikes up some kind of conversation with the chauffeur, but I'm in no mood for small talk. Folding my arms, I try to tune out whatever it is they're saying by watching the skyscrapers flick past as we head west, then north to pick up the George Washington Bridge to Jersey.
And apart from a brief wait at the toll plaza on the other side of the Hudson, the journey passes quickly and uneventfully.
Arriving at the airport concourse, we exit the limo and make our way into the main terminal building. Luckily, at this time in the morning, there are not too many flights, so we pass through customs without any hang-ups...
...except for the fact that Max remains glued to his phone, obsessively-compulsively checking for texts from Tariq every two seconds, even as we board the jet.
"Have you tried calling him?" Chris asks as he stows his bag in preparation for the flight.
"At least ten times," confirms Max, glancing anxiously out the window in the over-keen hope that Tariq will magically appear.
"Maybe his phone ran out of battery..." offers Chris hopefully.
"More likely he got mugged," I grunt, falling into one of the leather seats.
Max throws me a disbelieving look. "That's a horrible—! Oh. You're actually serious..."
"Guy like him... Prime target," I reply dispassionately.
Max's face drains of colour. "We have to call the police!"
"And say what?" I snap abrasively. "That the bell-end got himself lost somewhere in Manhattan? They'll laugh us off the call."
"But—"
"If Tariq really is in trouble, he can hit up the Cordonian consulate," I declare uncompromisingly. "But it was his bright idea to throw a hissy fit and stomp off in the wrong direction when—"
"You ungrateful ingrates!"
My eyes snap past Max. "For fuck's sake..."
Tariq is stood in the doorway of the jet, looking like he'd literally battled his way through the nine levels of hell to get here. His over-gelled hair looks like it's been zapped with a Taser, his clothes are somehow drenched and filthy, and he's wearing only one shoe.
"Would it have killed you to wait?!" he shrieks, throwing his Louis Vuitton man-bag onto the closest seat.
"Yes..." I reply.
Tariq shoots me a murderous expression. But before he can open his mouth again, Max has crushed him into an over-eager bear hug.
"You made it!" he enthuses. He pulls back suddenly. "But why were you not picking up your phone? And also, why do you smell like a wet dog?"
"Because I was robbed!"
"Told ya," I smirk across the aisle at Chris.
"It's not funny!" shouts Tariq, jabbing an irate finger at me. "If you only knew of the horrors that I have been subjected to, you would think more than twice about making light of my plight!"
"Pretty sure I wouldn't..." I mutter with a roll of my eyes.
"What was that?" demands Tariq imperiously.
"Nothing," I grunt as a steward appears next to my seat.
"Can I interest you in a pre-flight refreshment?" she asks.
"Yeah, sure," I shrug.
She hands me something pink and bubbly in a champagne glass. "Enjoy!"
"I doubt it," I mutter, grabbing the flute to throw it back in one swig.
I grimace as the sour mix of grapefruit and Prosecco hits the back of my throat. But alcohol's alcohol, and at this point, I would've downed windscreen wash if it'd've helped drown out Tariq's high-pitched info dump of his trials and tribulations.
Kinda wish we had left the bastard behind...
But I couldn't seem to win on this trip, so I'm just going to have to suck up the next twelve-or-so hours locked up in an airtight fuselage with the bouchebag and pray that there's enough whiskey on board to keep me from choking him out.
Pulling my phone from my pocket to help distract myself, I shoot off one final text to Schweitzer to let him know that we've made it to the airport and we're about to take off.
I'm about to do the same for Bast when the over-taxed device finally gives up the ghost and the battery dies halfway through the text.
"Great..."
Reaching into my duffel with a sigh, I extract the phone's charging cable and plug it into the seat's USB port so it can get some life back while we're airborne.
As Tariq continues to piss and moan about nearly getting run over, having his phone stolen right out of his hand as he tried to call a cab — followed shortly thereafter by his watch — tripping and falling into an open excavation hole as he tried to chase after the pickpockets, the cabin crew shut the aircraft door and complete their final cross-checks in preparation for departure.
A quick intro from the captain, and the jet starts rolling. After a short taxi, we're out on the runway, where we idle for a couple of minutes waiting for the go from the tower.
As soon as we get it, the pilot revs the turbines and the jet lurches forward. We hurtle down the runway, wheels bouncing and jet engines whining before jumping into the air to start our climb to 41,000 feet.
Glancing out the window, I watch the ground fall away as we ascend over Jersey, my ears popping from the rapid altitude change.
The plane banks sharply to the right and I catch sight of the Manhattan skyscape...
...but there must've been something in the mimosa because I’ve crashed out before the plane fully levels off.

time out
Tumblr media
summary: you and yangyang have hated each other from the very first time you met, but he’s great friends with your roommate. when she gets tired of all the fighting, she puts the two of you together in time out until you can get along
length: 1,928 words
tags: enemies to lovers, meet ugly, angry sex, rough sex
Tumblr media
Maybe it was odd to live in this day and age, to be no one of vital cultural or political importance, and to claim that you have an enemy. A mortal nemesis. And not like the kind that you have to deal with when you're playing games.
Liu YangYang was your enemy. He lived to spite you.
You first met YangYang by happenstance. Your first full day living in Seoul, freshly arrived and fully enrolled to take classes at a university. Things should have been good but they weren't because it was storming and you'd overslept so you'd missed your bus, and then there you were after a rough morning and this guy just stole your expensive Starbucks drink right off the counter.
And then he spilled it on you by walking right into you.
The next time you met him, was even worse. Because it was in your apartment as he snuck out of your roommate's room. After they'd had noisy sex that kept you awake, and they'd fallen stopped and fallen silent about thirty minutes before.
You'd thought they were asleep, so you ventured out to the kitchen, and that's when you spot him tiptoeing from her room. Clearly he was trying to sneak out of this one night stand, so when you loudly start complaining that he's the same guy that stole your drink at Starbucks and spilled it on you, he grows irritated. Especially when your roommate pops her head out the door and sees him trying to sneak out.
So he kinda dislikes you for that.
And then you realize that you have a class with him, and that's only the first of many similarities that you and your worst enemy share, the things that keep throwing you together just so you can butt heads in the worst of ways.
When your roommate starts to fuck YangYang semi-regularly, you have to see even more of him. Unfortunately, you also hear quite a bit too. Sometimes you'll come home late from classes and he's just there grabbing a snack or a drink from the kitchen (too many times it's been something of yours that he's taking).
To make it worse, she stops fucking him and actually becomes friends with YangYang, which means that he's around even more and that's really not fair, because you like your roommate. You're actually really close with her, but she has a shitty taste in guys she hooks up with and then becomes friends with.
"Friends don't do this kind of shit," you complain to her one day after you came home to find YangYang there. He'd left almost immediately, too pissed at you to even be able to pretend to tolerate your presence. "How can you be friends with my worst enemy?"
She rolls her eyes. "You two are so dramatic."
On the rare occasions when you are in each others presence for longer than five minutes, there are always fiery arguments that flare up about the simplest things. Many times either one of you will bring up issues from long ago, the sources of your feud such as him stealing your drink and spilling it on you or you ratting him out while he was trying to sneak out.
It annoys your roommate to no end, even after two years of you being her friend and roommate, two years of YangYang being your enemy and her friend.
"Can't the two of you please shut the hell up!" She yells, getting between you and him.
Tonight he's at your apartment. He's made himself comfortable on the sofa with your roommate, but he's using your blanket to get comfy, all snuggled up in it like it's his own.
"I'm going to put you in time out if you can't behave!" She says again, putting on a motherly tone she's begun adopting when she has the two of you in the same space. "I'm so tired of this. Just grow up. You're not enemies, you're just being children."
You don't expect her to actually do it, but then she's somehow grabbed you and YangYang, dragging you both by the arms into your bedroom. She shuts the door and tells you both to work it out. She's not letting either of you out of this apartment until you've talked it out and finally get along.
She slams your bedroom door shut, and a moment later you hear the door of the apartment shut too.
You're not sure you've ever actually been alone with YangYang. You're not entirely sure what to do.
But then he starts bitching at you for getting the two of you locked in your bedroom together, how it's always your fault, that you're the one that started it tonight, just like usual.
He's right there in front of you, his eyes burning as he looks at you. His lips are moving but the rushing sound of your heart pounding with building anger begins to drown out his words until you're only looking at YangYang's lips and you're angry and you want him to just shut up.
Both of you make sounds of shock when you kiss him.
You didn't mean to, but it worked.
YangYang stops talking, though for an instant his lips kept moving against yours, before shock overwhelmed you both and you pull apart.
"You kissed me," YangYang gasps. "What the fuck?"
Your mind races. You don't know why you did that. You hadn't been thinking about kissing him, but it had happened anyway.
He stares at you, and you can't wrap your mind around that you'd just kissed your mortal nemesis. That he was still standing there right in front of you, that he was still looking right at your lips.
When YangYang kisses you it's slightly less of a surprise.
He channels everything he's got into the kiss--the anger and frustration, the confusion and the hungry passion.
You don't make it to your bed. YangYang's hungry kiss sweeps you right in, pulls you closer, weakens your knees so you're dragging him down with you as you sink to the floor. YangYang presses his body over yours, hands pushing under and pushing away clothes. You drag and tear at his clothes too, and he curses your name when you succeed in stretching the collar of his tshirt, the fabric making a popping sound as the seams rip a little, exposing just a little bit more of his skin which you bring your mouth to.
It's angry, the way that you kiss, the way you touch each other. His hands grab roughly at your thighs. He jerks your pants down your legs. You scratch down his back, bite at YangYang's shoulders when he drags his shirt over his head.
And when finally you're all hot skin against hot skin, sharp tongues and teeth, gruff voices hissing at each other and cursing, at last YangYang thrusts into you. He's not even slightly gentle, doesn't go easy.
He braces his arms on either side of your head, fingers tangling with your hair splayed across the floor. He leans up over you and as he starts to pound into you--speaking filth about how tight your cunt feels around him, how pathetic you sound as you whine with each deep press of his cock inside you--you grip at his hips and sides, dragging your nails over his skin, and you lift your head from the floor to kiss and lick and suck and bite at his chest.
This is a different kind of a fight, but at the same time it's the same fight you've been having for two years.
You shove YangYang over onto his back, grab his hands and pin them above his head as you ride him, taking your own pleasure on his cock. He keeps struggling against your hold on his hands, swearing and moaning when you lower your head to keep marking up his chest.
You're both in constant motion, struggling to be on top, to be in control.
YangYang fights his hands free of your hold, and he sits up, grabbing your hips and pulling you down on his cock as he thrusts up into you. You grab a handful of his hair, yanking on it until he's gasping and your name bleeds from his lips almost like a plea. His fingers dig into your ass, he pulls his hands away just to slap a burning handprint against your skin.
You pull him down over you as you sink down onto your back, your arms twisted around the back of his neck, your legs fastened around his hips.
YangYang pistons into you, and you twist your fingers through his hair and crush his mouth to yours.
He goes still at last when he cums. His mouth moves slowly against yours, his body collapsing over you, pinning you to the floor.
"I think I like time out," YangYang mumbles against your lips. Slowly, he starts grinding his cock inside you again, and at this angle with him pressed as firmly against you as he can, you even get the sweet friction of your clit against his belly.
When you cum, YangYang keeps moving. He's still hard, and the way he starts rocking shallowly into you just feels so good that your eyes close and you roll your head back against the floor, pushing at YangYang's shoulders, your lips parting to let out some whines.
YangYang laughs, kissing down your chest as he pulls out of you. He kisses down to your belly before he rises onto his knees, and you look up at him, following the line of his body down to where his hand wraps around his cock, stroking himself while he looks down at your pussy, at his first load starting to leak out of you.
The second time he cums, it lands across your belly.
You shove YangYang away when he drops down over you again, rubbing his tip through the mess, smearing it even more across your belly. He topples onto his side with a laugh, and you refuse to admit how the sound makes your heart leap in your chest.
You smack at his arm, and that only makes him laugh harder.
He grabs your hand when you go for another smack, and then he's tugging, smoothly pulling you up over top of him so you're straddling his waist. His sticky cum starts to settle down your belly, dripping where it's still quite wet.
"If you keep fighting with me we'll never get out of here." YangYang reaches a hand out, slicking his fingers with his cum. "We're in time out until we like each other."
You gasp when YangYang drops his sticky fingers down to your clit, using his cum on his fingers as something like lube, not that you need it. Your cunt is still leaking his cum down against his abdomen. Your pussy throbs though at his touch, and it's not fair that your body has betrayed you so much.
This is YangYang, your enemy, the guy you've disliked since the very first time you met. He shouldn't be able to make you feel so good.
You lean forward, pushing your hands roughly down against his shoulders so he's pinned to the floor. But still his fingers massage your clit. The fine, warm pleasure tingles under your skin.
"I guess we'll be stuck in time out for a long time, then," you sigh. "Who knows how many orgasms it'll take before I'm dumb enough to actually like you."
YangYang grins, happy to take that challenge.

a/n: based on the request “what about yangyang and you mutually disliking each other (enemies) and one day bickering and fighting your brain decides it's a good idea to kiss him to shut him up, but pull back quickly then you're both like all shocked like what the fuck? and he just kisses you again ... and well, the rest is history.”

a bitch [one] // leigh shaw
summary: you're used to leigh's constant mood swings and unpredictability, but didn't expect she'd ever do something to hurt you like she did.
warning/s: cheating
author's note: an angsty leigh shaw imagine was requested, so here we are! there's one more part to this so enjoy 😊
part two | masterlist | wattpad
Tumblr media
Leigh Shaw could be a very unpredictable woman.
Ever since the unfortunate death of her husband, Matt, she'd become very erratic. It was hard to remember what she was like before he died, but then she'd flash me a smile and say something adorable and I remembered. Other times though, she could be as explosive as they came. If you ever got swept up in her mood swings, you'd be screwed.
Despite this, I remained by her side. That's what best friends did. Even when she yelled at me or gave me the cold shoulder or treated me like dirt, I stayed because I knew that was what she needed.
One time, a few months after Matt's death, I was stopping by to see how she was. A prime example of the cold effect she could have on people.
I raised my hand to knock, but the door suddenly swung open, revealing a peeved Jules and a pissed Leigh further behind her in the hallway.
"Hey," I greeted her sister with a smile, but she moved past me moodily. I glanced at Leigh before catching Jules' arm, stopping her. "What happened?"
Jules smiled bitterly. "You know, you should reconsider where you put your care, Y/N. Some people just aren't worth it."
At that last part, she glared over my shoulder, no doubt at Leigh. I turned to look at Leigh, who merely stuck a middle finger up at her sister before storming towards to the kitchen.
"What a bitch," Jules mumbled, making me wince because it was such a horrible word.
Jules shook me off before marching to her car to leave. I sighed and turned around to let myself in to their house. Closing the door behind me, I followed after Leigh and found her making toast in the kitchen angrily.
"Hey," I began softly, not wanting to give her another reason to get pissed off. Sitting on a stool at the island, I asked, "What happened?"
She forced a smile as she grabbed her toast from the toaster and dropped it on a plate. "My sister can't respect my space is all."
I pursed my lips awkwardly, watching as she grabbed butter from the fridge. Noticing my silence, she glanced up at me through her eyelashes.
"What?" she deadpanned, pausing from her actions.
"I don't think Jules is trying to upset you," I began, knowing I'd probably regret it. "I'm sure she understands you want space, but she loves you. And when you see someone you love hurting, you feel like you have to do something."
A sour smile broke out on her face as she scoffed. "Wow. Could you have your head stuck any further up Jules' arse?"
"Leigh, that's not what I'm–"
"What the hell are you even doing here?" she snapped. "I didn't invite you, Y/N."
Tensing my jaw, I refrained from getting annoyed. "Believe it or not, I actually wanted to check on you."
She curled her lips into a frown. "Well, I'm fine."
As if to prove that she was, she continued to butter her toast, but when she set her knife down, it slipped off the edge of the table and clattered to the floor. Frustrated, she slammed a fist on the countertop.
"It's okay, I'll–"
"Just get out," she cut me off when I was making a move to help her. I paused, wondering if she meant it, then her deadly green glare settled on my face. "Leave."
Sighing with defeat, I nodded and wordlessly left.
Sometimes Leigh wouldn't apologise. She'd act like nothing had happened and we'd move on. Other times, she actually would, surprisingly recognising that she'd done something wrong.
There was this one time when I'd invited her over for the evening to eat dinner and watch some films. The dinner went perfectly fine – we talked, we laughed, we spent time together – but then when we settled in the living room to watch a film, things started to unravel.
I can't remember exactly what she'd said. One second we were choosing a film on Netflix, then she was trying to make plans with me on the weekend. Unfortunately, I already had plans with my girlfriend, Alex, and Leigh didn't seem to like this. She'd made a comment under her breath and though I don't remember it specifically, I knew it wasn't polite.
Before I knew it, we were screaming at each other, arguing over the dumbest things. It started off being about my girlfriend and then the most unrelated stuff was being brought up on both of our ends. Sometimes she could be so aggravating, managing to rile me up and bring the worst out in me. The argument lasted a few minutes before she left, leaving me seething and full of hurt.
It was the following day at work when she came to see me next. I owned a café a few doors down from her mother's dance studio and was working a shift when her sister came through the front door.
I smiled at her when she approached the counter dressed in gym gear, her usual getup when at work with her family.
"Hey, how're you doing, Jules?" I asked.
"I'm good," she greeted with a smile, before it faded. "Just a warning, Y/N, Leigh is incoming in one minute. She wants to apologise."
Eyes rolling with mild annoyance, I let out a sigh. As dreadful as our spat was last night, I knew I had to also apologise to her. I'd said some hurtful things that made me feel all icky inside. Going to sleep after a fight was never a nice feeling.
"I don't know how you've put up with her for this long," Jules commented, picking up a cupcake from the display. "She can be so horrible to you."
I frowned, not feeling comfortable talking badly of Leigh behind her back. "That's not fair, Jules. You know what she's going through."
Jules gave me a knowing look. "I do, but that doesn't give her a free pass to treat you like she does."
Shrugging, I busied myself with cleaning up the crumbs from Jules' cupcake and giving her a plate.
"I take it you're going to forgive her then," she stated, though she definitely knew the answer judging from her expression.
"We both said some things we shouldn't have," I tried to explain so it didn't seem like I was giving in so easily, which deep down, I definitely knew I was, but Leigh was worth it.
Jules chuckled. "Yep, you're forgiving her. Looks like it's Leigh's lucky day."
I didn't say anything as she picked up the plate, ready to take a seat at one of the tables. Just as she was about to leave, she paused thoughtfully.
"You know, if you didn't have a girlfriend already, I'd say you were whipped," she said casually.
Ignoring her words, I watched her take her a seat on one of the spare tables. She made jokes like that a lot, but the truth was that I would probably do anything for Leigh. We'd been best friends since university – that was way too long to simply throw away our friendship because she was going through a tough time. And yes, the girlfriend talk threw me off at times... by the time I'd realised I liked Leigh as more than a friend, she was engaged. And I got over it, but Jules continued with the jokes and I continued to dismiss it.
As Jules warned, Leigh entered the café and caught my eyes with a nervous smile. I returned it, just as nervous as she looked, before watching her approach the counter. She was dressed in gym gear, like her sister, but a fine layer of sweat coated her skin which made me think she may have just finished teaching a class.
"Hey," she said with a rare gentleness to her voice. Her hands rested on the counter, fumbling slightly, before she put them by her sides instead. "How are you?"
Uncomfortably, I played with a loose thread on my apron. "I've been better, not gonna lie."
She exhaled regretfully. "I want to apologise, Y/N. Last night... it wasn't fair what I did. Just snapping at you like that."
I didn't know what to say, so I stayed quiet and avoided her eyes.
"I just get so angry sometimes," she admitted, noticing I wouldn't speak. She sounded exhausted and I looked up to see her running a hand through her hair. "I can't explain it. My anger at you wasn't about Alex or the plans, it was just me."
"It's because you're still hurting," I told her what I'd observed, shoulders relaxing. "And you're not very good at expressing that."
She shook her head, eyes drifting to the till distractedly. "I should be because I keep hurting the people I love."
My heart ached at the devastation in her voice and I put my hand out, motioning for her to take it. Thankfully, she did and I squeezed hers gently.
"Look, let's just forget it happened," I said with a small smile. "I... I didn't exactly say the nicest of things either."
She grimaced, letting go of my hand. "No, I get why you said it. It wasn't fair of me to just start on you like that. You were just defending your girlfriend... God, I can be such a bitch sometimes."
I winced at the word, it grating my ears. "That's not true, Leigh."
"It is." She nodded slowly, rolling her eyes. "Everybody thinks it. Including you."
"I don't think that," I said with creased brows, meeting her saddened eyes. "You're not a bitch. I've never once thought that."
"Really?" She raised a brow, smiling with defeat. "Not even that time when I stole your doughnuts after that fight we had two weeks ago?"
I shook my head. "Nope."
"Not even when I snapped at you for no reason the other day when you tried to help me write my article?"
"Not even then."
Her expression softened with guilt. "Not even when I called you a selfish jerk last night for not wanting to spend time with me even though you have a life of your own?"
I rounded the counter and stopped before her, looking between her guilt-ridden eyes. "Especially not then, Leigh."
She breathed out quietly and I pulled her in for a hug, glad when I felt her relax beneath me. Her arms clasped around my waist and I was glad we were good again.
It was a year later when Leigh and I eventually got together as a couple. It was a long time after I broke up with my girlfriend and it was completely unexpected.
I'd invited Leigh to be my 'date' to my mum's birthday party, since the two had gotten on so well in the past. She was happy to oblige, but as soon as we arrived, her mood changed.
I was helping collect the pizzas from the delivery guy when he started to flirt with me. At the time, I didn't even realise, but I knew that Leigh had acted different since it happened. When I finally confronted her about her sudden mood swing, she proceeded to make out with me completely unexpectedly and then admitted she was in love with me.
I'm not gonna lie, it was a good time. Since breaking up with my girlfriend, I'd been single and falling for my best friend all over again. Leigh making the first move was all I'd needed to finally share how I felt, too.
That was six months ago, and since then, we'd been going strong. Of course, there were still times when she had her mood swings and took it out on me (and literally everyone else) without realising, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I was used to it, used to her. So much that I should have trusted her even when presented with conflicting evidence.
We were at her workplace, Basically News, where she wrote columns part-time. It was a work party she'd been invited to and she'd asked me to be her date, which of course I said yes to. At the moment, we may or may not have been a little tipsy as we stood in the corner, drinking from flutes of champagne.
"Thank you again for coming here tonight as my date," Leigh said with a grin, arms laced around my neck as she held me close.
Pressing a kiss to my lips briefly, she pulled away and left my head spinning, and not just because of the alcohol.
"Any excuse to not be on the closing shift at work is good enough for me," I said playfully, resting my hands behind her waist.
She gasped. "Oh? So it wasn't me who persuaded you to come tonight?"
I pulled a face, feigning forgetfulness. "Hmm, I'm not too sure. Maybe you'll have to remind me why I agreed to come."
She bit her lip to contain her grin, eyes flickering to my lips. Leaning in, her lips met mine and I closed my eyes, enjoying the way she combed her hand through my hair and tilted my head towards her so she could get better access. She was a really good kisser and she knew the effect she had on me as I felt her smirk into it, catching her breath, before chasing down my lips and nibbling on them temptingly.
Remembering where we were, I gently pushed her back and tried to contain my smile. "Make it PG, Leigh. You're at work."
She licked her lips and began to laugh, green eyes darting between mine. "You're just so cute."
I rolled my eyes playfully. "I don't want everyone here knowing how irresistible you are or they might try to steal you away."
Her laughter filled the air, making my stomach flip at the sound.
"Though I think they may already know that because of how sexy you look tonight," I added, eyes fluttering down her body to appreciate just how well she pulled off her fitted black dress.
She raised her brows with surprise, making me mirror her expression comically.
Leaning close to my ear, she said above a whisper, "D'you wanna know something not-so-sexy?"
Her breath tickled my ear and sent shivers down my spine, making me tense up slightly. Judging from the expression on her face, she was very much aware of what she was doing to me.
"What?" I asked with amusement.
"I really need to pee," she said, and I began to laugh because she did, too, and I knew she wasn't kidding. Pressing a kiss to my cheek, she added, "I'll be right back."
Letting go of me, she waved goodbye before going to the toilets. I busied myself with getting to know her colleagues whilst I waited, until five minutes had passed and I realised she still hadn't returned. Deciding to check on her, I headed in the direction of the toilets, only to freeze when I saw something I definitely wasn't expecting.
Leigh was kissing another girl outside of them.
It was her colleague, Abby, that was the first thing I noticed. But I didn't stay to make out anything more as I immediately turned around and walked away, trying to make my brain catch up to what I'd just seen.
Leigh was kissing somebody else. Somebody that wasn't me. Somebody who I had always suspected had a thing for her, but I never considered that maybe Leigh had a thing for her, too.
Definitely not tipsy anymore, I found the nearest table and took a seat, trying not to assume the worst. But how else could I perceive what I'd just seen? It could have been a mistake, though I was so shocked and hurt and angry that I couldn't imagine how. Maybe she'd explain herself to me. Or maybe she'd tell me what actually happened. Maybe.
Leigh returned not long after, finding me at the table. Smiling like nothing had happened, she pulled me up and led me to dance. Not once, for the remainder of the evening, did she suggest that anything was out of the ordinary, nor did she explain herself. And I couldn't help but wonder how I had the worst luck with women.
This one hurt way more than the last time because it wasn't just anyone – it was Leigh.
A year and a half ago:
"Danny mentioned the breakdown you had last week because they didn't have doughnuts, so I, er, brought you these just in case."
Leigh cracked a small smile in the passenger's seat before accepting the box I held out to her. I'd just parked up outside the place where she went to her grief counselling group, having offered to drop her off. It had only been a few months since Matt died, but sometimes, the old Leigh shone back through and it made me feel hopeful that she'd make it through this.
"Thank you," she said genuinely, fingers wavering on top of the box, before she lifted her gaze to meet mine. "And thanks for the ride. You didn't have to."
I shrugged, thumb tapping the steering wheel mindlessly. "I don't mind. I just wanna make sure you get here okay."
She sighed, shaking her head, though a ghost of a smile was on her lips.
"Text me when you're done and I'll be happy to pick you up, too," I added casually.
"Thanks," she repeated, though didn't make a move to leave my car just yet. I didn't rush her.
Sadly, the silence was broken when my phone began to ring and my girlfriend's name flashed on the screen in my car where my phone was connected to. Glancing at Leigh, I just about made out the eye-roll she did.
"Sorry," I apologised, before declining the call instantly.
"Why d'you do that? Could've been urgent," she said with a clipped tone.
Oh, no, I thought. Whenever she used that tone, it meant she was picking a fight.
"I'm here with you," I said like it was obvious, hoping that one thing didn't ruin the moment.
She tensed her jaw, looking down as her hair fell around her face. "Whatever."
Before I could think of a way to make her feel better, the screen lit up again and my ringtone echoed through the car. I winced at the glare Leigh sent to the screen. If looks could kill, my car would be toast.
Declining the call, I looked to her worriedly. "What's wrong, Leigh?"
Her glare fell to me. "Why the hell do you keep declining it? She's calling you for a reason."
I raised my eyebrows. "Because I'm here with you? Alex can wait. I'm taking you to grief group."
"Well, I'm here at grief group," she mocked, turning to face me with an unexplainable frustration.
I didn't understand why she was so touchy all of a sudden. The car ride here, she'd been fine. Just a moment ago, she'd been fine. But now... now she was acting unreasonable.
My phone buzzed in my pocket suddenly, followed by a tone that signalled I had a text. Leigh smiled bitterly, rolling her eyes.
"Let me guess," she muttered. "It's her."
Still very much unable to keep up with her mood swings, I didn't answer. Her gaze snapped to mine as she stared at me with disbelief.
"Why the fuck aren't you checking it?!"
I grimaced, my own exasperation slipping out when I blurted, "I'm a little confused to what you want from me right now, Leigh!" Breathing out slowly, I said, "I'm sorry if this is bothering you. I'll turn off my phone next time."
As if I'd deeply offended her, she raised a brow incredulously. "Are you kidding me? Why would this bother me?"
Okay, I was extremely confused now.
"I don't know," I admitted, bewildered.
"Is that what you think of me? Some clingy bitch who won't let you live your life?"
I widened my eyes. "What?! Leigh! I never said–"
"Sorry if taking me is such a task," she said abruptly, moving to put the box of doughnuts on the dashboard.
"I never said that," I told her sternly.
"You didn't have to. I know already. I'm just a burden on everyone."
She got out of the car and slammed the door shut behind her. Meanwhile, my confusion was still trying to make out what the hell just happened.
"Don't bother picking me up," she said through the open window of the passenger's door. A scowl was on her face as she added, "You should go spend time with Alex. She's probably missing you."
Breathing out, I leaned back into my seat and watched her walk away and to the entrance of the building. When she acted like this – so push and pull with her emotions – I was so conflicted. What could possibly be going on in her mind that she managed to flip everything that just happened? A complete 180?
Knowing she'd just need some time to cool off, I shook my head and focused on leaving. But then I remembered my phone went off and pulled it out to see what was so important. Aside from two missed calls from Alex, I saw I had a voicemail, too, not a text.
Grumbling fo myself, still disgruntled by Leigh's attitude, I raised the phone to my ear to have a listen, whilst hoping it wasn't actually anything life-threatening.
At first, all I could hear was some very faint laughing and vague noises, kind of like material rubbing together and breathing. I assumed Alex had left me a voicemail without even realising since I'd done that countless of times to other people, having dropped my phone in my bag without realising it was still on. But then the noises became more distinct and I made out words.
"Jake, stop messing about," a voice said, whom I instantly recognised as my girlfriend.
I furrowed my brows. Jake? Jake as in the guy she worked with Jake?
"If you stop teasing me then maybe I will," a gravelly yet devious voice responded.
My throat went dry when I heard more laughter before it went quiet. It didn't take a genius to understand what was happening, especially when the moans that followed echoed in my ear, begging me not to forget.
Unable to listen anymore, I hung up and threw my phone onto the passenger's seat. Tears welled in my eyes as I glanced over at it hesitantly, almost wishing it hadn't even existed. And as much as I didn't want to accept the glaring fact, it hit me like a ton of bricks.
She was cheating on me.

What are your thoughts about Adrien/Cat Noir?
You got me started, so I won’t mince words.
Tumblr media
Adrien is a pain in the ass.
The way the show constantly makes it seem like he’s in the right when he absolutely fucking ISN’T is something that has infuriated me for a very long time. The writing makes him seem perfect but he isn’t. He’s not even a good friend, and Marinette’s crush addled brain forces her to listen to his garbage advice even though she knows better and is more experienced in social matters.
This fucking kid has only been breathing fresh fucking air for a few months and somehow he’s suddenly a fucking expert on how to deal with bullies and manipulators. That’s how he comes off to Marinette with how often he lets Chloe’s shitty behavior slide or his dumb advice about Lila: “Making a bad guy suffer has never turned them into a good guy.” Or, “If you humiliate her he’ll just be hurt more.”
But Chloé gets to humiliate and hurt others with barely any consequences from anyone, let alone Adrien. And Lila just gets to publicly make fools out of anyone who believes her nonsensical bullshit. And it’s only appropriate to chastise them only AFTER someone has been humiliated, hurt, and even EXPELLED right Adrien?
And sure, I can acknowledge when Adrien has his moments of a spine but it never lasts and always falls through. People are constantly screaming “but his dad and his childhood and he’s so sheltered and can’t stand up to anyone !” but forget that he chose to be a superhero and fight evil and has stood up to people.
I mean he stands up for Chloé and Lila quite a bit no matter who they hurt. He had no problem standing up to Marinette and shaming her and the others when they were rightfully happy that Chloé, their longtime tormentor and bully was leaving. He gets to be sad that Chloé is leaving and shame on anyone who is happy about that.
He was so concerned that Chloé left hurt and humiliated, (which was her own fault for trying to lie about her school project and after the bullshit she pulled with the Bee Miraculous) that he didn’t care about how badly Chloé made others feel on a daily basis. They were rightfully relieved to have Chloé gone and to celebrate having some peace in school for fucking once.
He seemed to have forgotten about how she nearly killed a train full of fucking people to make herself look like a hero. How soon he forgets how Chloé sabotaged Marinette’s great uncle, how she treats Sabrina, how she broke into Marinette’s room and stole her diary to win a class president election, stole Marinette’s hat design and tried to frame her for stealing, how she broke into Marinette’s locker and vandalized her gift to Bustier. Just so many things.
But noooo. That’s not important. What’s important was that HIS FRIEND was sad and that all her bad behavior is negated and that they shouldn’t celebrate her leaving because SHE kept HIM company when he was kept inside his home. Nothing else matters Right Adrien?
And let’s not forget about Lila. I’ve heard so many bullshit excuses about why he won’t expose Lila and it pisses me off something fierce:
“He doesn’t know that Lila threatened Marinette!” “Marinette didn’t tell him about the threat!” “He can’t stand up for himself because he’s scared his dad will pull him out of school!” “He’s scared of Lila!” “But his upbringing” “But his dad!” “He doesn’t have evidence!” “His advice is right!” “He doesn’t know how dangerous Lila is!”
ALL. COMPLETE. BULLSHIT.
Especially that last one. There has been multiple occasions where Lila has proven how dangerous she is outside of being akuamtized but he still won’t expose her. The time she got Kagami akumatized and WILLINGLY helped Oni-Chan, was proven true by the horn on her head growing every time she lied. Adrien as Chat Noir saw this. Ladybug warned him. A FIREFIGHTER examined Lila’s ankle and basically said she was full of shit about her injury and saw Chat Noir chew her out over her willingly helping an akuma.
Still don’t know how the firefighter didn’t report that to the cops but then I remember that Thomas Astruc is shit and I say to myself, “Ah, that’s why.”
Adrien knew then especially how dangerous Lila was. He even warned Ladybug about her. If I was Ladybug I’d have said “Yeah, no shit. I tried to tell you that 5 minutes ago but sure.” But instead of outing Lila, he still says NOTHING and continues to let her lie and promise his friends things she can’t possibly deliver, continues to let her mess with his friends dreams because she’ll be “hurt more.”
When was this bitch hurt at school I wanna know.
Also, there’s the fact that Adrien has chewed Lila out multiple times about her behavior, so he’s not afraid to stand up to her. He’s even done it in public where anyone can hear him like in school. But he just keeps giving her chances. I was excited when he chewed Lila out after “Ladybug” but then that quickly went away when he said that he didn’t have any proof.
But he does have proof of her lying. He was there when Ladybug chewed Lila out about her lying. If he spoke up about that, they would believe him because he doesn’t have a motive to speak against Lila, like the way others were skeptical of Marinette’s claims because of her crush on Adrien. There’s also the fact that she lied to get into his house and got Nathalie and his bodyguard into trouble.
There is a picture she sent out to multiple people so she can’t rebut that. And then the whole shit about framing Marinette and the red butterflies. He should have spilled all the fucking tea but he still kept his mouth shut. If his little talk with Lila hadn’t panned out Marinette would still be out of school and she would look like some horrible villain and no one would doubt Lila.
But noooooo. Lila will be humiliated, she’ll be hurt. It wouldn’t make her a good guy.
Screw you Adrien.
As for Chat Noir....
*breathes in*
He needs to get a fucking reality check or he needs to not have a miraculous. Yeah. I said it.
Here’s a special message for him:
Ladybug said no. Stop asking her to date you. Stop trying to make plans or trick her into romantic situations with you. Don’t throw tantrums because she doesn’t tell you things or because she won’t do what you want. Stop goofing off during battles. Stop sacrificing yourself you absolute DUMBASS.
Sincerely, me.
It boggles me why he gets to do all the shit he does and has no fucking consequences. Marinette’s toe can’t even twitch without someone breathing down her fucking neck about being the bigger person or just chastising her for not living up to the standards of a Ladybug.
I’m looking at you Tikki.
But Adrien gets to just do all kinds of shit without a HINT of consequences as Chat Noir. It’s fucking WILD. But apparently to some it’s more important that he keeps Plagg because he’s lonely and he shouldn’t be trapped inside his house with Gabriel.
That’s not what a miraculous is for??!?!!?!?!! 🥴
And sure, Marinette has had some slip ups as Ladybug. But not nearly as many as Adrien has as Chat Noir. But like I said, Marinette gets blamed for anything by any and everyone whether she’s Ladybug or not. Tikki and Alya chastised her because she entered the game tournament to spend time with Adrien.
WHY??
She didn’t cheat, she entered fairly and played fairly and won fairly just like Adrien did. But because it was to spend time with Adrien it was wrong. Even Max’s sore loser ass admitted before he left that Marinette beat him fair and square. It’s a competition. He wasn’t entitled to have a spot. He even looked upset when Adrien beat him and Adrien had a worried look on his face. Tikki even chastises Marinette saying that there were better ways to spend time with Adrien.
But there WEREN’T.
Adrien’s time is so closely monitored that he barely ever gets time to spend with friends. That was the only chance Marinette had to spend time with Adrien. But of course Marinette gets the heat for it.
But Adrien gets nearly nothing when he causes Copy Cat because of his lie about Ladybug. He gets to throw a tantrum because Ladybug didn’t come to a picnic she never agreed to in the first place with no consequences. He gets to be upset about Ladybug having someone she loved and refuse to work together with her. And it’s all just glossed over.
But Marinette? Everything she does is always wrong. She has no choice but to be perfect or somehow the whole fucking world ends. And while it’s not right, Adrien only has to look perfect for his dad’s company. The amount of pressure isn’t the same. He gets to be carefree in at least half of his life, but Marinette is always under pressure and always judged harshly while Adrien gets to fuck up with barely any consequences or repercussions.
In conclusion, I’m so tired of this “sunshine boy”. You asked for this, and I delivered.

My ability is called Hell Hath No Fury and it gives me the ability to make a perfect clone of myself that is fueled by the anger, rage, pain and despair that dwells inside of me, and has been inside of me since I was small. The anger isn't something that's just there, I've been through a lot of things in my life that left my weary soul full of the negative emotions that powers my clone. I don't particularly like using my clone, as she could be quite scary. Like anger and hatred, she could be very hard to control sometimes.
"She is quite scary, huh?" Dazai hummed, voice full of humor as I told him about my ability, us now back at the ADA. I sat at my desk, shoulders slumped. "Took me by surprise~"
I laughed softly at him, shaking my head as I read the official report that was written at the conclusion of the Taichi investigation. There was an unreadable look on my face as I read through the text, Dazai swaying his chair from side to side beside me.
"It says that Taichi was killed by the drug dealer..." I repeated, grimacing as I recalled Chuuya shooting the same man right in his head. "I don't... know how to feel about this."
I was the one who killed Taichi, yet here I was, sitting at my desk in the ADA office with no consequences coming my way. Further reports say that the drug dealer soon met his own demise due to the retribution from the Port Mafia, which wasn't an exact lie.
"Just go along with it, Bella. The only ones who know the truth are-"
"I can't believe you would do something so... incredibly stupid." I winced as soon as Kunikida started barreling down on me, sighing as he continued to lecture me.
Of course, we had to tell Fukuzawa, as well as the rest of the core members of the ADA what happened. It was only fair, considering we had to make sure the story was solid. It was rather nerve wracking to say the least, and in total me fashion, I had cried right in front of the President.
I thought I would get fired, but all I got was a week's suspension. "Get some rest," Fukuzawa said to me, leaning back in his chair. "You're going to need it." I nodded my head, standing up and bowing to him quickly before I left his office.
"I guess I'll see you guys soon," I said to the others, holding my bag full of belongings in my hands. I gave them all one last wave before walking out of the office, aware of Dazai following behind me. As always, I chose to walk down the stairs, only going down two flights before I turned on my heel, dropping my bag and wrapping my arms tight around the taller man.
"Oof," Dazai gasped out before he wrapped his arms around me, chuckling a bit as he gave me a squeeze. "It's not like you'll be gone forever."
I sighed, keeping my face pressed against his chest. "I know. I think all the adrenaline from... everything finally left and now I honestly feel like shit. I'm so tired, Osamu."
"... would you like me to come with you?" Dazai asked and I shook my head, giving him a playful, scolding look.
"You need to finish that report, you lazy bastard," I replied, Dazai already whining and I rolled my eyes. "Call me later?"
Dazai stopped whining, gently cupping my face with his hand. He leaned in and kissed me, stealing my breath away as he always had. He smirked at my flushed face, stepping back. "Yeah. Now go."
I left him by the stairs, making my way back to my apartment. Now that I had a week off, I wasn't sure what I should do. I guess doing was Fukuzawa said and just resting would be a good thing, seeing as I was tired, both physically and emotionally.
But even as I try to sleep, I find myself tossing and turning, waking up every hour. I slumped on my back, letting out a frustrated breath as I stared at the ceiling.
"You know, bella... you're disrupting my beauty sleep," Dazai spoke from beside me and I rolled my eyes, huffing out a breath. Dazai chuckled softly, laying one arm under his head while the other rested over his tummy. "This will pass in time."
I sighed softly. "It's weird... I don't regret it."
"But you still took a life."
"Did you feel this way when you first killed someone?"
"... I honestly don't remember. When you're surrounded by nothing but darkness and carnage for a long time, stuff like that is nothing to be concerned about."
I frowned. "When you were in the Port Mafia... you were partners with Chuuya, right?"
"Like I said, we were the best~" Dazai sang and I smiled softly.
"Just imagining the two of you fighting together is kinda scary..."
"Well, when you have someone like Chuuya and the youngest executive in Port Mafia history, yeah, we were pretty scary!"
I choked. "You were an executive?!" I exclaimed in shock. I thought about Chuuya, and how he worked alongside the Leader of the Port Mafia himself. Dazai was that powerful? And with someone like Chuuya...?
"That's..."
"Terrifying?"
"Hot."
Dazai sputtered, bursting out into a fit of laughter. "You like dangerous men?"
I grinned widely, finally turning to cuddle against him. "Blame it on the daddy issues," I answered, making him snort. "Why did you leave?"
"You should try to get some sleep," Dazai replied, changing the subject and I shrugged my shoulders.
"Yeah, though I won't be surprised if I can't," I mumbled unhappily, shifting a bit to get comfortable. I closed my eyes, hearing Dazai chuckled softly as I started to doze off.
Unsurprisingly, I slept like shit that night, my eyes were sore, the bags under my eyes puffy and dark. I groaned, waving Dazai goodbye tiredly as he left in the morning, heading to work after I scolded him for trying to sleep in and skip work.
The door closed behind him and I let myself fall back on my couch, just staring into nothing for a while before I grabbed my phone, pressing on Keiko's contact and calling her. She didn't answer.
Tumblr media
After pressing the button on the side of her phone to end the incoming call, Keiko sighed nervously as she approached the man sitting in the desk before her, hands shaking as she placed down a large, thick envelope.
"Here you go. That's all of it," she said softly, quickly withdrawing her hands away and clasping them together against her chest.
Chuuya watched her carefully, noticing just how scared and timid Keiko was acting, and he honestly didn't blame her, not after what she's been through, and especially how Taichi continued to throw her under the bus, even after his death.
"I swear... I had nothing to do with what he was doing..." her voice trembled and Chuuya sighed deeply. He dug into his drawer, producing a cigarette for both himself and Keiko. She allowed him to light hers for her and there was a silence as they each took a drag.
"I believe you," Chuuya started, leaning back in his seat. "He used your name to open that offshore account and the safety deposit box, making sure not to have this all trail back to him." Keiko hung her head and Chuuya thought back to when he first saw her. She was way more outgoing and cheerful, and admittingly had a very sensual, attractive aura that even he himself would be into if she hadn't been with Taichi.
It was a shame to see that all gone, all because of one coward. It pissed Chuuya off immensely. She was essentially betrayed by someone she trusted, and Chuuya could relate to that all too well.
"But, everything is finally coming to a close with all the money Taichi stole from us coming back. Don't worry, Keiko, our investigation makes it more than clear that you are innocent in this. You have nothing to worry about," Chuuya said, but Keiko still looked troubled. She said my name softly and he looked at her questionably.
"What about her...?" she asked softly. "Is she clear?"
"You did see the official report, right?" Chuuya replied in turn, taking another drag from his cigarette. Keiko nodded silently. "It wasn't that hard to form the story. There was at least some truth to it. The drug dealer was as good as dead... as well as Taichi. She just beat us to it. We can let this slide."
Keiko sighed in relief, taking another drag from her own cigarette. "That's a relief... I was worried about what would happen to her."
"Nothing," Chuuya answered. "And we will be keeping an eye on her for a while too."
Keiko nodded in understanding. "I'm still worried about her, though. She's been having a hard time sleeping and I'm sure it's just... everything finally getting to her..." Keiko sighed deeply, rubbing her eyebrows. "But I don't know what to do... she's in this mess because of me, I wanna help her but I don't even know how to help myself!"
"And that should be your main focus right now," Chuuya spoke, crossing his arms over his chest. "Don't worry about her. I'll take care of her."
"But why?" Keiko questioned. "It's not like you care about her. Or love her."
Chuuya rolled his eyes. "There's no love there, but she's... fun."
Keiko snorted at that. "She's not one for love and relationships. I guess that's why she's involved with you, and Dazai. There's a mutual understanding there, and I guess if it works for you guys, then it's okay. But-"
Chuuya quirked an eyebrow. "But?"
"She's still sensitive. She wears her heart on her sleeve, so even if there really is no love here, I'm sure she still cares for you guys. That's just how she is. So I ask... just don't hurt her. That's all. If it all ends... just make sure she doesn't get hurt." Keiko clenched her fists. "I don't know what I'll do to you if she does."
Chuuya just stared at her, pleasantly surprised. He let out a short laugh. "Are you threatening me?"
"Yes."
Chuuya grinned, laughing again as he shook his head. The loyalty in this friendship was honestly a sight to see. It was refreshing. "I don't usually respond well to threats, so I'll let this slide. You've done all you can do, so you can head on home if you want. If you're lucky, we won't see each other again."
"Well, if you're still seeing my best friend, we probably will," Keiko said, standing up, feeling a little less nervous. "Goodbye, Chuuya. Stay safe out there."
Chuuya nodded. "I hope you can heal and become your old self again. It's sad to not see that pretty smile on your face."
Keiko blushed brightly. "Shameless flirt," she shot at him playfully, turning away from him to leave. Chuuya laughed loudly from his desk.
Tumblr media
"So, are you okay now?" I asked Keiko over the phone, her telling me about her meeting with Chuuya. She first apologized for ignoring my call, but it didn't bother me that much. I was only glad that she was doing okay.
"Yeah, I'm alright. Gonna spend the rest of the day home and figure out what to do."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well... I'm thinking of going away for a while. Maybe for six months... just to heal and find myself again."
"Six months?! What about your job?"
"I quit. I want to start my life over again, but I love Yokohama, so I figured... I can get another job when I come back! I'm gonna sell my condo too!"
I was stunned. "I... but where do you plan on even going?!"
"Hm... maybe Europe? I'm not sure yet. Are you... okay with me leaving?"
"Of course! I support you with everything you do in your life. I just want you to be safe and okay..."
"I'm glad. I'm pretty determined, but don't worry! I will always come home!"
Keiko and I talked for a while after that, a smile on my face as we ended the call. I was happy to see that Keiko was trying to turn her life around, proud of her for being so strong. It was rather inspiring, and helped me to gain my own strength to get my shit together as well.
The day went on, and I was in the kitchen making an early dinner when there was a knock on my door. I was annoyed, thinking it was Dazai flaking out on work again, but as I opened my door, I was surprised to see a certain red head at my door.
"Chuuya?"
"Wow. You look like shit."
I rolled my eyes and scoffed, turning and walking back into my kitchen, Chuuya following behind me.
"Gee, thanks."
"What are you doing?"
"Cooking an early dinner. You want some?"
"Yeah, sure."
It wasn't long until Chuuya and I sat across from each other, chowing down on some food and filling our bellies.
"So, what's up?" I asked him, drinking some water. Chuuya was still stuffing his face, almost choking at one point before he downed his glass of water to save himself.
"Well," Chuuya coughed. "I came here to collect my prize."
I blinked. "Your prize? What are- oh," I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. That stupid race Dazai proposed. Chuuya was the one who figured it all out first, and I was the prize for the lucky winner. "So, you wanna have sex later then? I'm cool with that."
Chuuya scoffed and crossed his arms over his chest. "No. Well, yes, but no. Not yet. I'm taking you somewhere."
I raised my eyebrows. "Where?"
"Shut up and don't worry about it. You'll see when you get there."
I narrowed my eyes at him, just wondering what the fuck he was up to. What could it possibly be that he wouldn't tell me what his plan was? It was rather suspicious and I began to grow wary.
But we finished eating and Chuuya didn't even give me a chance to pack before he dragged me out of my apartment. I managed to get my keys, phone and purse, and I gave him the stink eye the entire time I was stuck in the backseat of a fancy car with him.
"Are you having me killed?"
"I will if you don't shut up."
I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest as Chuuya took me to my supposed doom. But we arrived at our destination, and I was extremely confused as I looked up at the rather luxurious hotel. I didn't get the chance to question it, Chuuya leading me inside. We were immediately greeted by the hotel attendants, and led to the elevator. We rode it all the way to the top floor, the attendant leaving us alone as the doors opened and we walked out into the hallway.
"Chuuya..." I let out a small breath as he led me inside the penthouse, my jaw dropping as I took my first look at the very luxurious space. "What is this?"
"Keiko told me you were having a rough time," Chuuya spoke, taking off his hat and then his jacket, hanging them up carefully. "I figured this would help you. Full body massages, jacuzzi, anything you could ever want to just... relax. It's all here."
"But... Chuuya, you didn't have to," I whispered, still in awe with my face heated up.
"Well, just deal with it," Chuuya huffed.
"Isn't this expensive though?"
"It's nothing. Just... think about this as my prize. Taking care of you."
Now my face was burning hot, Chuuya's own flushed red. I gave him a look, his words making me smile a bit despite how flustered they made me.
"You sound like a sugar daddy."
He didn't respond. That made me giggle. "How long will we be here."
"For the week, until you get back to work."
"But how did you..." I trailed off, gasping when Chuuya gave me a light push further into the penthouse.
It was an amazing, large open area space with a full kitchen, all the top appliances, a flat screen and a huge king size bed. The bathroom was just as fabulous, the large soaker tub calling my name.
"Oh, I need to get in that," I declared, making Chuuya laugh lightly. He watched as I looked around the bathroom, taking it upon himself to start filling up the tub. I turned to him and smirked. "Will you join me?"
"Like you have to ask that."
After finding a nice smelling bath bomb to put in the tub, Chuuya and I undressed and carefully climbed inside, sighing blissfully as the hot water immediately began to relax our muscles. I sat between Chuuya's legs, my back against his chest and my head resting against his shoulder. My eyes were closed, Chuuya's strong hands roaming all over my body.
"Tired?" Chuuya asked me softly and I sighed, nodding my head.
"Yeah... like Keiko said, I've been having a shit time sleeping," I answered, turning my head to lightly kiss Chuuya's jaw lightly. "But maybe a relaxing massage would help. Oh, but it's kinda late, huh? The masseuse would be gone by now."
Chuuya's hands continue to roam my body, one moving south. I let out a deep sigh when he began to rub circles on my clit.
"Yeah... but I can think of other ways to make you sleep," Chuuya whispered in my ear before he bit into my earlobe. I sigh again, Chuuya then capturing my lips with his own.
After making me cum on his fingers in the tub, we finished up in there before we found ourselves tangled up in the sheets of the king sized bed. Chuuya had my legs thrown over his shoulders, his cock plunging deep into me with every thrust he made.
"You're mine..." Chuuya breathed out, hissing and moaning from the pleasure. "... for the entire week... gonna make sure the only name you know is mine." He growled, clenching the sheets on either side of me tightly in his fists.
"Oh, yes, yes yes!" I cried out, back arching off my bed, eyes going wide as a voice that was not Chuuya's spoke up.
"Oh, that's just cute."
Whipping our heads around, we were shocked to see a certain detective standing at the foot of the bed, lecherous grin on his pretty face. We froze, Chuuya's cock still inside me, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Dazai?!" I shrieked.
"How the fuck did you get in here?!" Chuuya followed, glaring at the man. "What the hell?!"
"You can't hide things from me~" Dazai sang, not even hiding the fact that he was enjoying what he was seeing, his eyes slowly trailing over both of our naked bodies. "I was wondering why you called me to ask about her schedule... so I did some digging."
Chuuya hung his head, gritting his teeth in annoyance. "I am going to kill you."
Dazai laughed heartily, waving his hand dismissively. "No, no! Don't let me disturb you! I can watch! You guys were having so much fun!"
Before Chuuya could even react, he ended up groaning, his wide blue eyes finding mine. "Did you... fucking like that?" he asked and I stuttered a bit. "Do you want him to watch us?"
Another chill went down my spine at the thought and Chuuya groaned again as I clenched tightly around him. Chuuya cursed, feeling his cock twitch inside of me. He cursed again, becoming more overcome with arousal.
"Interesting," he breathed out, small puffs of air hitting my face. He smirked slightly, glancing back at Dazai. "This brings back memories."
"Fond memories," Dazai hummed and I looked back and forth between the two of them questionably.
"What are you guys talking about?"
Both of their eyes were now on me, and the intensity of their gazes made me gasp sharply, another chill going down my spine.
"Why have him just watch," Chuuya began, nuzzling his face against my neck. "When he can join us? Oh, fuck, you squeezed me so tightly just now..."
I trembled, heart hammering in my chest at the mere idea. A threesome? With Chuuya and Dazai. Looking over, I catch Dazai slipping off his tan jacket, gulping as he started to work on getting his shirt off.
"We have a week, right? Oh, this is going to be so much fun."

Congested and Contested
Donnie x Reader
Tumblr media
Author: Admin JemPrompt: Hello! May I request a Image where the reader, (Donnie’s GF), is sick but denies it until she gets her butt kicked by the guys at training, almost faints, then confesses she that she is ill and Donnie cares for her? Thank you!!
Note: I am under the weather a bit so this really made me feel all happy and wanting a turtle to take care of my sick college bumm.
Warnings: Being sick? Undereating? Close to fainting? Honestly pretty chill.
Word Count:   2.1K
When you woke up for the day you could immediately tell something was off. Your eyes were so heavy and it felt like someone had shoved cotton balls into your skull, and left some plugging your nose. You couldn’t breathe except through your mouth which was so dry that you could barely take a breath without feeling like each inhale was a barbed wire being pulled down your throat then back out again. You groaned when you found your limbs were jelly. Everything felt disjointed and heavy.
You forced yourself upright and could feel your nose alleviate some of the blockages before coming back full force with a new friend- a pounding headache. Oh just great. I love a double whammy. Not.
When you heard the knock on the door and the bright light of the hallway invade your senses, it felt like your head would explode.
“You’re up- good. We have breakfast ready.”
You squinted at the large figure in the doorway, seeing enough features to determine it to be Donnie, with his bo staff strapped to his back and glasses being adjusted by a three-fingered hand. He smiled as you just groaned.
“Can I just stay in bed today?” You croaked, placing your head in your hands and gave a sharp sniff, trying to breathe easier.
Donnie moved towards you quickly and sat next to you. He moved your hair from your face and placed his lips against your forehead. You sighed as his cooler lips came into contact with your overheated body.
“Sweetheart,” He pulled away, “you’re burning up.”
You pouted as he got up and began walking the space of the room and began mumbling to himself on what your symptoms were. You sighed. You knew he would work himself into a worried frenzy and work until he was able to get you better. He had already been in his lab so much trying to find Shredder and what he was planning, you couldn’t put more on him.
You shook your head, “Don’t worry, love, I’m fine.”
You pushed the blankets off of you, shivering as you crawled out of your warm cocoon. Your headache began again with a vengeance. Taking a moment to recuperate, you pretended to look around for a clean shirt, when in reality you didn’t want to drop to the floor.
Donnie remained on the bed watching you with a crease between his brows. He knew you weren’t feeling well. He knew how stubborn you were. He also knew if he pushed the issue too far you would go silent and walk around the lair anyways. As long as he kept an eye on you today, Donnie could help when you were ready to ask.
When you were finally dressed- who knew trying to put on a sports bra when sick could be so freaking difficult??- you shot Donnie a smile and took his hand before leading him from the room. Donnie kept your hand in his and kept himself close to you the whole way. You just shrugged and let him have his moment of being protective. You couldn’t handle an argument very well with your nose running a mile a minute and your brain trying to replicate a whole drumline in your skull.
As you walked into the kitchen you were hit by so much noise and chaos you debated on turning around right then and there. Mikey was blasting “Wap” from the speaker April had gotten him- the same woman who introduced him to TikTok- while tossing a pancake onto a plate periodically. Leo sat with a smile, occasionally mouthing the lyrics and bobbing his head with the beat. Raph had resorted to banging the cutlery on the table in an impromptu drum session and was catching a pancake as they flew past him. Splinter merely sat reading a novel as he cut his pancakes into precise pieces.
Donnie nudged you towards a chair next to Leo before grabbing the two of you some plates. As he set one down in front of you you saw that Leo had been staring at you.
“What’s up, Fearless?” you drawled.
He just smiled softly and passed you some orange juice.
YES! Vitamin D to help take away some of the grogginess. When you were younger your mom would always make you a grilled cheese sandwich with either tomato or chicken noodle soup with a glass of orange juice. She always said it would help cure three parts of a cold. The hunger, the frowns, and the sleepies. It always cheered you up and never failed to make you feel like a little girl again when you got orange juice or grilled cheese.
You nodded gratefully before filling the glass and taking a big gulp. The cool drink on your dry throat felt amazing and you could feel your headache abate a bit. Well until Mikey walked up to you and decided to scream, “HOT PANCAKES!” before plopping six on your plate.
Your eyes widened. You were a food lover for sure, but there was no way you were going to be able to eat all of those. You raised your eyes to see Donnie smiling softly as he put four from your plate onto his. You nodded in thanks and started to nibble on what was in front of you. You weren’t even that hungry but you knew that if you didn’t eat at all then you would drop halfway through the day from malnutrition. That wouldn’t help your case of not being sick.
The boys were done eating in record time while you struggled to eat even half of your food. They shot looks at each other while Donnie’s eyebrows furrowed at your attempts to finish off your plate.
“Love?”
You looked up to see 5 pairs of eyes on you. You chuckled, “Guess pancakes aren’t the move for me today. Sorry, Mikey.”
“It’s all good, sweetcheeks,” Mikey took your plate and began eating what was left, “You feeling okay?”
“Of course. Fit as a fiddle.” You bluffed.
Donnie shook his head at you and stole a glance at Splinter, who nodded back.
You narrowed your eyes at them. What on earth were they concocting?
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were stuck on the side of the mat as the boys trained. Splinter would ignore your attempts to jump in to spar with the boys and passed over you on all the demonstrations. It was infuriating. You had been training for months with the boys, proving you could handle yourself despite your smaller size. A stupid cold wasn’t going to keep you from training. Raph had the flu and still got to fight and go on patrol, but you couldn’t even train? No way.
You looked onto the sparring mat to see Raph on the ground, pissed as usual that he hadn’t beaten the leader in blue.  He ignored Leo’s hand and stood up by himself. Leo shook his head and went to where Splinter was working Mikey and Donnie through some movements.
You smirked. This was your chance.
Snagging some water you strode over to Raph. Sniffed before getting to close so he wouldn’t hear your breaths ratting as easily.
“Hey Red,” you offered the bottle to him.
He took it with clenched hands. “Hey Y/N. How ya feelin’?”
“Fine,” you said through clenched teeth.
Raph raised an eyebrow.
“wanna spar?” you shot out before he could begin to ask further about how you were doing. Honestly standing and talking was wiping you out and your head was pounding.
“Nah I can’t fight ya when you’re like this. I would-“
You cut him off. “Scared you’re gonna lose again? I’m sure Leo would be willing to spar- more of a challenge anyways.”
You turned around but paused when Raph grabbed your elbow and whipped you back around.
 “Let’s go.” He growled. He tossed the water bottle to the edge of the mat before backing away to get into his stance. So predictable.
As you lowered yourself into a stance, he pounced at you. You had to duck and weave to avoid his offensive approach. You were hardly able to take in a breath and all the jumping around was making your head spin. Raph landed a blow to your shoulder and sent you back a good 2 feet. You could hardly breathe anymore. Your vision started to get darker spots on the edges of your vision. Raph stopped and called out for Donnie. You crouched down when you began to sway. Your breath came in shallow gasps and it felt like there was fog in your ears, your eyes, and your tongue felt so heavy.
“Y/N?” you felt a cool hand press itself to your clammy forehead. “Love, you’re burning up”
Just as your vision faded completely you managed to get out, “It’s cuz I’m so hot.” Then it went dark.
When you woke up later, it was very quiet except for the mild hum of a diffuser on the table next to you. As you tried to sit up you found there was something heavy on your head. You lifted your hand and removed the damp cloth from your forehead to see that you were in a cocoon of blankets, head propped up by a pillow. As you shifted, you saw that someone had changed you out of your sweaty clothes into a clean T-shirt. You sniffed it and determined it was Donnie’s because of how big it was on you and the light scent of motor grease. You sat up quickly and took another deep breath. You could smell again! You smiled and saw a glass of ice water on the table. You gulped it down quickly and sighed as the cool liquid soothed your dry throat.
The door cracked open and Donnie popped his head in. He smiled and opened the door further when he saw that you were awake. He carried a tray with a bowl and toast with him, which he sat on the table next to you. He placed his hand on your forehead.
“Hi love,” he took out a thermometer and turned it on, “How are you feeling?”
“Better,” you opened your mouth and he placed the device under your tongue.
“You scared me back there. Why didn’t you just let me take care of you earlier? You could’ve gotten seriously hurt.” He looked at you in concern. You knew you worried him and it wasn’t fair. But you don’t want to be the weak link in his family. He was always so strong and took care of everyone else. You wanted to show him you could be strong too.
Instead, you pointed to the thermometer in your mouth.
He chuckled and nodded. “I’ll wait.”
The thermometer beeped and Donnie read the temperature.
“99.7. Still a little high but better than before.” He said.
You looked down at your hands. “I’m sorry I worried you. I didn’t want to upset you.” You explained how you felt and Donnie remained quiet until you were finished. He pulled you into his arms and stroked your hair from your face.
 “You are the strongest person I know, Y/N. You fight every day for us and you support me in so many ways. You always help patch up the boys after a patrol, staying up to help us talk through our problems. You always are so positive and push us to do better. You make me better every day and I am so grateful I get to have you in my life. You are so wonderful and giving and strong, it makes me want to be worthy of you.” He placed a kiss on top of your head. “You don’t need to be strong all the time. I am your partner and it’s my job to take care of you. I love getting to take care of you.”
You sniffled into his chest and wrapped your arms around his neck.
“thank you.”
“of course.”
You both sat there for some time, simply taking in the other's presence. It was quiet and peaceful. Well until your stomach grumbled.
“Hungry?” Donnie chuckled.
You nodded and took the bowl from him. Tomato soup and grilled cheese. Yes! You loved this turtle. You offered him a bite of the grilled cheese, then hunkered down into the blankets as he turned on Star Wars. He crawled in next to you. Wrapping his arm around your shoulders, your head against his chest, and your favorite movie marathon in front of you, you knew you could stay here forever. With Donnie, you were happy and content. Maybe having him take care of you wasn’t as bad as you thought.
To Be Loved as Much as You Love is a Gift Part 5
Dave wanted to get to Klaus as soon as he could. Phone books weren’t as helpful as they used to be, and Klaus’ number wasn’t inside. He did find another Hargreeves though - Diego Hargreeves, private detective.
At least, he was listed as such. The phone number led him to a gym, which led him to a dank basement office and a man who looked weirdly pissed that someone had actually called the phone number in the phone book.
“I’m looking for one of your...brothers.” Dave wasn’t sure if this was the right guy since he didn’t look much like Klaus, but families could adopt! That was starting to be more of a thing when he was a little older.
“Klaus Hargreeves?” He pulled out his dog tags. “I uh, I served with him in Vietnam.” He didn’t want to take them off for closer examination until he was sure he could trust Diego - that he was on the right track.
“I guess if you don’t know him, I’ll have to hire you.” He chuckled a little. “Sorry.”
There was little that would really, truly surprise Diego at this point.  After the week that began with his father's death and ended with his brother nearly destroying all life on Earth (sandwiched between, of course, had been his missing at thirteen, now 58, appearing thirteen, brother arriving through a time portal), he was almost relieved that someone had come around claiming to have fought in a fifty year old war with his brother. The past couple months had been oddly quiet.  Too quiet.
To be fair to the stranger, though, he was brandishing no assault weapons or heavy briefcase, wasn't wearing a navy blue suit or cartoon animal mask-- all Commission agent trademarks, but that didn't mean Diego was trusting the guy's shtick.  He might have had a passing resemblance to the man Klaus called Dave--who'd he had fought with Vietnam (and fallen in love with, and whose side he'd only left when the Handler paid him a visit at camp and forced him out-- Diego still couldn't quite imagine Klaus fighting and surviving the front lines of the Vietnam war, but he had the new found scars and rifle skills and crippling reaction to thunder to prove it, so who was Diego to say he was a liar now?), but Diego wasn't about to lead someone straight to his brother's door.
He lowered the knife he'd been twisting back and forth between his fingers and settled a cool stare on the man.
"The Vietnam war ended almost fifty years ago.  You can't be more than thirty-five.  Why should I believe you?"
Dave hesitated for a moment, then moved closer to Diego, showing him the dog tags. He never took them off. “He gave me these when things got hairy the second time the North Vietnamese pushed us across Newport bridge.” He thought for a moment. “I chased down a Commission member and stole his..time travel bag.” Dave didn’t know exactly what it was called, but its function was as good a name as any.
“Klaus told me once that he was from 2019. I didn’t really believe him until after he disappeared, it seemed like something outta one of my dime novels, but…” He shrugged. “Here I am, because,” Dave chewed his lip, not sure if he should say what he was going to next. It was the truth, though. “I’d do just about anything to get back to him.” Apollo and Hyacinth.
Diego frowned, the words fakes and we're a well known family, asshole dying in his mouth before he could say them.  He'd heard that desperation before, from Five, the few times he'd talked about what he'd done to get back home.  He'd seen it in Allison when she'd meticulously taken notes on her days and made them all fill out questionnaires on her character during her custody battle for Claire.  He'd...he'd felt it, when Patch's call had come too late and he was too late, and she'd been killed saving someone she never was supposed to.
It was the desperation that Klaus had lost when he left Vietnam to save Dave's life, only to find he was dead less than five years later. Klaus, who had chased everything from seagulls to watch them fly to highs sandwiched between overdoses, was desperate for nothing--because there was nothing left for him to yearn for.  An idiot might have thought Diego's brother had finally found the meaning of life or something. Or thought he was finally content--and was only depressed because of the years he'd wasted on drugs. In quiet contemplation over his actions. Diego knew better, though.
"Where's the briefcase now?"
Dave chewed his lip. It didn’t seem wise to tell him all the details. “I hid it outside New York City.”
Buried outside the fourth bus stop towards New Haven, about a football field and a half away. Not likely to be found at random, he hoped. Unless there was some kind of rogue metal detector enthusiast, or the suitcase had some kind of tracking device in it. Either way, he didn’t want some poor sap stumbling upon it like Klaus had and ending up in the wrong place and time again. And...if he was the only one who knew where it was, no one could drag him back.
“Can we see each other soon?”
He looked at Diego, getting more and more worried as the moments passed. Diego’s lack of denial made him think he was on the right track. “Klaus is okay, right? I mean, as okay as he’s always been.” Dave frowned. “It’s...I don’t know how long it’s been for him. It’s been three years for me.” That had been hard. But now he was - he was on the last part of the journey. Klaus had to be okay, or everything would be for nothing.
Diego had a dozen intel questions that he knew he'd have to settle later.  Dave seemed to be getting to the point of a well masked panic attack.  He knew a thing or two about those.  But he just had to be sure.  How?
"Ah, yeah. Lemme just--" Diego took his key ring from the desk (he kept them in a little koala bear dish Patch had given him as a joke back when they were at the police academy together) and twirled them around his finger, trying to stall.
There was only a slim chance that the Dave standing here was not the Dave that had been clouding Klaus' every moment for the past six months.  It would take a very good actor with an intimate knowledge of a person's life who had no paper trail not tied to a comic book.  So, to be fair, there was plenty about Klaus that no one could read about. Viktor's book had written about the obvious stuff--the drugs, the irreverence, but that's not what someone who really knew his brother would talk about anyway.
"Klaus ever talk about our fourteenth birthday with you?"
Dave grimaced slightly but nodded. “That was the year he got his name. All of you got your names, actually. He..didn’t tell me about everything, but that his mother named all of you. Before that, he said you were only numbers. He also said that Grace made a big cake every year, and you all shared.” Dave hesitated for a moment. “Klaus also said that his dad didn’t want to give y’all names, because he was worried it would give you too much individuality, but people were starting to find it odd.” Was that enough? Dave hoped so. He didn’t like thinking about Klaus’ childhood, it made him too sad.
“Is that enough? Or do you need to know more?”
Diego responded with a single nod and stood up from his desk.  Knowing anything about Mom was enough--she had never been on the news and was mentioned only briefly in Viktor's book--guess there wasn't enough dirt or something.  He forgave Viktor of course, after all this, but the book still rubbed him the wrong way, even now.
"That's enough.  C'mon, I'll take you over." Diego began locking up his back room apartment and office, padlocks on the windows, keys to the electrical and heat in the oven on a cookie sheet.  "Can't guaran-guaran...guarantee he'll be sober, but he should be in one piece." Physically, at least.  Klaus barely left that apartment, other than when one of them made a trip over to make him buy groceries or do his laundry. Spent his time swaying between ferociously devastated and blankly empty.  Always depressed.
"After he found your…" This had always been a hard word.  And there were no synonyms to replace it with, either.  God, Diego hated the English language.  Most languages.  Because most languages involved words that involved him stuttering. "Your obitu-obit--obituary, he sort of...gave up hope." Diego unlocked his car and hopped in the driver's seat.
"Pull up on the door handle or it won't open."
Dave followed Diego into the car, having to struggle a little with the door handle before he got it. “I see.” His obituary. Dave hadn’t quite thought of that, somehow. “Well...at least it didn't really happen.” He couldn’t complain. It was weird to think that officially, he was dead in the past. Unless he went back, then he’d be dead in this time? Dave was..not the expert on time travel.
“Thank you for helping me, Diego. Klaus uh,” He smiled weakly. “Klaus always said he was your favorite brother.”
Diego rolled out of the gym lot and started down towards midtown.  "Neediest, maybe." He conceded lightly.  He and Klaus had always been close.  Truth be told, Klaus had been close to all of them at one point.  He had just been one of those types of people--talkative, while somehow always remembering the random shit about them, too.  Favorite movies, what he knew would make them laugh during a difficult training day, that sort of thing.  It had only been once they'd gotten older, lost Five, lost Ben, that divisions went up.
"Ben, uh, our other brother, he might be there, too.  Depending." It was really only a ten minute drive to Klaus' place, twenty to walk.  "I...I don't know if he was in Vietnam or not." Diego didn't know what Klaus had and hadn't told Dave.  Obviously, he had handled the time travel well enough, and the parts of their childhood he was privy too with some understanding, but Diego had no idea if that meant he knew of their powers or not.  Maybe he was just very understanding of his boyfriend talking to himself?
"Uh, nevermind." Diego pulled into a spot behind the building.  He had a key, too, just in case.  The last thing this family needed was Klaus OD'ing alone in a shitty apartment.  "Forget I said anything." For all he'd heard about Dave, Diego really knew nothing about their relationship.  Was he not a good listener? Or was Klaus just vague as always?
"This is it. Tenth floor."
What about an Akechi/Joker role swap AU where Akechi is still the detective prince and Joker is still the Shujin delinquent, but the major difference is that Morgana never lost his memories and found Akechi before he approached Shido with his metaverse assassination plot?
Like, imagine Akechi, bitter and jaded, who has just awakened Loki and felt the terrifying and thrilling rush of the berserk power. He's formed a plan to get back at his piece of shit father, even managed to set up a meeting, which he had to set up months in advance, and on the day he's going to present Shido with info on the metaverse, he winds up arriving a few minutes late, because even though he intended to be early, he was accosted by a talking cat (he's been in the metaverse, so he can hear him) on the way over, and in the whole wtf-ery of the moment, lost track of time. Shido, being Shido, refuses to see him and will not reschedule because he doesn't like having his time wasted.
Pissed off, Akechi leaves to find Morgana still waiting for him outside. So he doesn't look like an idiot yelling at a cat on the street, he brings Morgana back to his shitty apartment, where Morgana explains why he had found Akechi and whats up. He doesn't know about Yaldobaoth taking Igor's place, he just knows there's two champions, and Akechi was the one he found first, so he must be Igor's chosen champion. (It is my theory that it doesn't actually matter who was Igor's and Yaldobaoth's champions, it was more about the choices they each made and where they ended up.)
Akechi has no interest in saving the world, but he knows that if he wants to get back at Shido, he needs to become someone of consequence, so he agrees to undergo Morgana's training, since Morgana clearly knows more about the metaverse than he does, and he can use it to solve cold cases, earning him a place as the Detective Prince. He changes a few hearts, to pacify Morgana, too. It takes a couple years, but during his senior year in high school, he makes it, earning himself the cooperation of the police and the spotlight of the public eye. He's getting so close to making Shido notice him that he can practically taste it. Also, what’s this ‘velvet room’ he keeps dreaming about?
Then Morgana finds Kamoshida’s palace and is like ‘heyo, you thought changing hearts in the metaverse was cool, check this shit out’ and Akechi is admittedly intrigued , so he takes a look. He sees the inside of Kamoshida’s heart and is appropriately disgusted and says to Morgana, ‘hey we should totally kill this guy’s shadow.’ Morgana’s like ‘why is your first suggestion always murder, we don’t know what would happen if we killed his shadow, Igor wasn’t very clear about that bit, we should try stealing the treasure instead’ and Morgana has been useful (and it’s been really nice to have the company these past two years, though he won’t admit that) so Akechi agrees ‘fine, we’ll steal the treasure, but if that doesn’t work, then I’m killing his shadow.’
And that’s when Ryuji and Ann make an appearance (’ohmigawd, goro, be more careful with that damn app, i s2g.’) Ryuji’s mom apparently thinks Akechi is pretty neat and watches all his interviews, so Ryuji knows who he is and is delighted to find out that the lame-ass detective his mom has talked about is actually a grumpy badass in the metaverse, with this shadow that has some kind of insane power, and hey, he helped them bring down Kamoshida (alive,) so maybe he is actually pretty cool, even though sometimes he spaces out and talks about evil twins and some longed-nose dude. He decides then and there that he’s going to be Akechi’s best friend, since he apparently has none, and Ann is all too happy to join in for the ride, and all of Goro’s protests have fallen on deaf ears, and they know about the whole detective prince thing being a facade, so he might as well indulge them for now.
The ‘Phantom Thieves’ (a name that makes Goro want to roll his eyes whenever he hears it, and why is everyone calling him ‘leader?’) gain fame and change hearts, gaining new members such as this weird-ass artist dude who fights with ice, and oh, god, one Nijima is bad enough, don’t tell me there’s two! and she uses nukes, wtf?!
Around this time, he also meets Shujin’s delinquent, enigmatic transfer student whose talk of hope and justice never quite seem to reflect in his stormy grey eyes, and he and Goro are clearly birds of a feather in a way, he can tell, there’s just something about him, and he thinks this guy might actually be his best friend, but don’t tell Ryuji that, he’d never hear the end of it.
Akechi learns the truth behind Akira’s arrest and Shido’s involvement and he is disgusted to find that he genuinely wants to help this guy, and he can’t do that if Shido’s dead, maybe he doesn’t want his revenge as badly as he thought??? Oh, ew, I have feelings that aren’t anger and it’s all my friends’ fault, I can’t just leave them and go off to get revenge, they’d literally die without me, those lovable idiots. Also, when Ryuji saw his home, he pretty much insisted he stay with him instead, and Ryuji’s mom reminds him of the good times he had with his own mother, and he honestly doesn’t think he has the strength to disappoint her like that. So, he decides to change Shido’s heart, but he knows that there’s no way that this little group of miscreants is strong enough to take on the fucked up bullshit that he’s seen in Shido’s heart, so let’s hit pause on that for now.
Shido had Wakaba killed via completely non-supernatural ways and stole her research, same as before, so Futaba still has a palace. He found out Akira worked at Leblanc a while ago and started dropping by, and then somehow Ryuji found out about it, and now all the Phantom Thieves know, so much for a peaceful place to get away, but he actually doesn’t mind that much, and Akira lets Akechi keep an eye on the shop when there are no customers so he can go out and do errands and Boss doesn’t mind, so they’ve ended up hanging out there as a group from time to time and talking Phantom Thief business, so Futaba knows who they are, and asks for their help.
Okumura’s palace pretty much goes the same, Okumura dies somehow, are we responsible, why does murder actually make me feel kinda bad, stupid friends and their stupid good influence.
Goro attends the Shujin student fair as guest speaker, whoa, the class president being friends with Akechi does have its perks, doesn’t it? Akira finds them all there together and approaches them, tells them he saw them go into the metaverse, awakened his own persona, and saw a guy in a black mask kill Okumura’s shadow, hey why don’t I join you, you probably need all the help you can get, who’s heart are we stealing next, how about Sae, she knows my probabtion officer and has been giving me hell, plus I already checked, she definitely has a palace.
They agree, and oh, hey, Akira can hear Morgana talk now, but WAIT A MINUTE?! Didn’t he hear Morgana talk before when he told Goro that Leblanc didn’t sell sushi, even though Goro hadn’t asked for any?
They hack Akira’s phone, learn that Shido (Akechi recognizes that voice) will have thugs waiting to capture them when they leave the palace. They plan around it, pull the metaverse switch and manage to sneak a heavily drugged Akechi out of the warehouse Shido stashed him in by traveling through the metaverse. Shido’s lackey’s have written a fake suicide letter from the leader of the Phantom thieves, and the chief of police, under Shido’s orders, delivers a statement confirming its authenticity, and look the plan succeeded. All they need to do know is take down Shido.
Things are going great, until they get to the engine room, where Joker, having realized what happened, is waiting for them. Joker, who lost everything after he transferred, who discovered the metaverse completely alone, who didn’t mean to kill that guy’s shadow, but he attacked him first, and Shido had somehow known, had been keeping an eye on him, had him convicted for a crime that he didn’t commit in the hopes that he would break because he needed an agent in the metaverse, and so far he’s had no luck. Joker, who had nothing left to lose and had accepted the only hand that had reached out for him.
They fight, and when it looks like things are going badly for Joker, he pulls out... a second persona?!?! At least, it looks like a persona, but something about it is off. it looks familiar somehow. And then Akira asks if they knew it was possible to fuse personas and Akechi realizes what he’s looking at. These aren’t the clean executions that Caroline and Justine perform, these are personas that have been ripped apart and haphazardly thrown back together with no thought to form or elegance, look, there’s a Yaksini’s arm, and that bit right there clearly used to belong to a Rangda, and I think that piece might have belonged to a Seiryu, and Akechi should stop listing personas now because Ann thinks she’s going to be sick.
They keep fighting. Joker can’t understand the difference in power between them. After all, aren’t they the same? Unloved, unwanted, soldiers pitted against each other by some bullshit higher power?
When Joker shoots the bulkhead door closed and Futaba reports that she’s lost Joker’s reading, Akechi vows then and there that he’s going to kill Shido after all. And he almost does. He stands there, with his gun pressed to the head of the shadow of his father, his friends can’t blame him, and even Morgana knows better than to try and stop him. But he doesn’t. He remembers Akira’s madness there at the end, and wonders what he would have become of him if it weren’t for Ryuji, who somewhere along the way, he’d realized he’d stopped tolerating and started actually liking. Ann, who shared his woes about being in the public eye and swapped tips with him about how to handle the press. Yusuke, who, although he was still completely bizarre to him, appreciated the beauty in life and didn’t tease Goro for his taste in Grandpa clothes. Makoto, who knew the importance of hard work and who, between herself and her sister, had caused Goro to pick up some healthier coping mechanisms. Futaba, who made fun of him for his food blog, but liked the same nerd bullshit that he did and would bombard him with memes until his day somehow became a little less shittier. Haru, who dreamed of starting her own business and actually cared about Goro’s opinions, and could threaten someone with a smile in a way that even Goro was jealous of. And Morganna, who had reminded him what it was like to not be lonely, and demanded more sushi than he could afford, but always made sure Goro ate his fill, instead of getting so focused on his work that he forgot.
Akechi guesses that he must have turned soft somewhere during the past several months, but after seeing what happened to Akira, he can’t help but be grateful, knowing with certainty that if things had turned out differently, that would have been him. Hey, Morgana, you know that world-saving bs you talked about two years ago? Let’s leave this piece of shit here to rot and focus our attention on that instead.
And you guys know the rest.
Or, at least, that’s how I thought it would go. Feel free to share your thoughts. :)
Top 5 Worst Choices That Didn’t Matter
“This game series adapts to the choices you make. The story is tailored by how you play.”
......Yeah okay, Telltale.
There are a lot of important choices to make over the course of the twdg series, but as we all know, not every single choice matters. One of the biggest things people tend to complain about Telltale games is the illusion of choice and “my choices don’t matter! We all get the same ending anyway!” which is fair, I get it.
I personally try to look at the choices in a more positive light. Like, yeah it doesn’t matter if you cut Lee’s arm off or not. No matter what, you can’t save him and he’s going to die at the end of S1. Except that choice does matter, just not in the way we wanted it to. It matters because it shapes the story we the player want to tell.
Who is your Lee? Is he willing to do anything to rescue Clementine? Including cutting his own arm off if it means giving him just enough time to get to her, even though it’s going to hurt like hell and could possibly leave him worse off?
Or is your Lee someone who won’t risk that, even if there is the smallest hope that they cut it off in time and he could live? He’s willing to let the infection spread and kill him because he needs both arms and all the energy he has left to get to Clementine?
Sure, it doesn’t matter in the end-- Lee still dies, but two armed Lee isn’t the same man as one armed Lee, and that’s important to your story. Plus, that choice is memorable as hell.
But these kinds of choices that are impactful to your story in various ways? Yeah, we’re not talking about those today. Nope. Today we’re talking about choices that meant absolutely nothing. They never came back, they didn’t impacted the story in a meaningful way, they’re forgetful, and they’re just the worst. I don’t like ‘em.
Before we get started, just wanna shoutout @pi-creates for helping me bounce all these choices around and reminding me of so many things I forgot.
5.  Telling Clementine to bring AJ back to Richmond
Tumblr media
One of the last choices you’ll make as Javier Garcia happens during a conversation with Clementine. The two are talking about AJ and Clementine’s wondering if she was a good mom [which still don’t love the direction they went there for okay ANF] and Javi has the choice to tell her to bring AJ back to Richmond, or to leave him at the ranch.
And funny enough.... this means nothing. It does nothing. It’s said and nothing is remembered. Clementine never brings AJ back, she never mentions Javi telling her to bring him or leave him... all we get is a single line in TFS during the ranch flashback where Clementine says that they can’t go back because it’s a warzone that way.... but she says that no matter what.
It also doesn’t help that this come at the very end of the season but isn’t a huge choice the affects the endings. I dunno if they were trying to plant ideas that “Ooohh this choice could decide whether Clem sees the Garcia’s ever again! Clementine’s story isn’t over y’all! The Garcia’s could come back and we could see Richmond again!”
But then TFS happened and they were like “Ha, that’s stupid, no one likes the Garcia’s.” and they are never mentioned by name again.
4. Helping Sarah in the green house
Tumblr media
Ugh, okay.
So, there’s this point in S2 where you’re trapped in Howe’s and put to work in the green house with Sarah and Reggie. Y’see, Sarah isn’t doing so good at this. Carver got pissed at her for talking earlier and forced Carlos to slap her... which he did, and it knocked her on her ass, and now she’s in shock.
Then ya got Reggie who keeps talking about how he’s on thin ice with Carver but also he’s this close to being let out of the holding area, so behave and all will be chill. He gives you a task to trip and pick berries or whatever, when you notice that Sarah is just kinda standing there.
So you got a choice: Do you focus on your own work, or do you help Sarah out?
Well, it doesn’t matter what you pick.
It.... it literally doesn’t matter. Sure, you could argue that it helps Sarah out and adds friendship points with her.... except no, not really. It’s never brought up again. She doesn’t even guilt you if you don’t help her, which is something you’d expect from these games.
Oh, and Reggie dies no matter what. Yeah, Carver comes in and thinks a couple of berry bushes is the perfect reason to throw this man off of a rooftop... but then he doesn’t do anything to Clementine or Sarah either way. He doesn’t get mad if you help, he doesn’t go after Sarah if you don’t.... and it’s never mentioned again. Reggie’s death is, but your specific choice isn’t.
3.  Stealing from Arvo
Tumblr media
Oooooh boy, gotta love the Arvo choice.
So, you and Jane are trying to find a safe place for Rebecca to have her baby when you see this kid walk up carrying a bag. He’s pretty harmless, and he’s more scared of you than you are of him. Jane gets the jump on him, and you check out the bag he’s carrying.
Turns out, he’s got a shit ton of medicine.... medicine that your group could really use. Arvo panics and begs you not to steal from him, claiming it’s for his sick sister. You gotta decide if you want to rob him or not.
And it doesn’t matter.
The best I can do to defend this is by kinda comparing it to when you steal from the Stranger’s car in S1. It’s more of a moral choice to shape Clementine, y’know? Except it doesn’t really do anything..... Clementine isn’t branded a thief after this, she doesn’t go around just stealing shit [though she can steal Pete’s watch but that’s another story]. But if you do want to keep stretching, then the next entry on this list could be seen as a continuation of Clementine’s thieving ways if you so choose.... but that choice is here, too, soooo take that for what you will.
If you steal the medicine, you have this pill bottle that you can give to Rebecca but that barely matters, too. They don’t help or harm her when she’s giving birth, they do nothing for AJ, and no matter what you do.... Arvo’s squad ambushes you.
And it means nothing.
Arvo will always claim you stole from him, even if you didn’t. Rebecca will always die and someone will always shoot her, causing a shootout to happen where no one in your group dies.
Yeah, no one but Arvo’s squad dies. Mike gets shot, and so does Luke but that’s it.
Oh, and stealing from him is never brought up again after that.... because it doesn’t matter.
Even if they did something where if you stole from him, then one of your group members dies because of some bullshit reason, then it would mean something but as it is now? Nothin’.
2. Injecting AJ with medicine
Tumblr media
Oh hello, ANF, you’re back.
This flashback is annoying on so many levels... Alright, AJ is sick and everyone has told Clementine that there’s nothing anyone can do to help him, but she gets her hands on the name of a medicine she thinks will help. So she sneaks around and finds the medicine, but of course, she can only give it to him as an injection.
Instead of doing the smart thing and taking the medicine and moving away from the group to give to AJ in a safe location where she won’t get caught, she sticks around for Lingard to wake up, and he’s high outta his mind so that’s fun.
He tells her that it’s not going to help him and to just put it back. She knows what they do to thieves around here but he won’t tell anyone. It’s up to you, do you put it back or inject AJ?
Well, guess what?
Clementine gets caught either way and the drugs are either in AJ or smashed on the floor, David becomes a flipflop with his “We shoulda abandoned AJ long ago to die >:O but also you can’t take him because he’ll die out there!” and they kick Clementine out for being a dingus.
And here’s the kicker.... AJ is alive no matter what. He gets through whatever sickness he had and went to the ranch. You injecting him or not did nothing... no side affects, nothing. I’m sure they didn’t want to go super dark by killing AJ off [except they kinda did since there’s a lot of scrapped concepts with a dead AJ] depending on if you injected him or not..... but at least it would’ve been something. Hell, maybe no kill him since we need him for TFS, but maybe it would affect if he went to the ranch or not to begin with. Maybe if he got worse, they sent him somewhere else and that would affect where Clementine went to get him back for the flashbacks in TFS.
Again, you could look at this as what Clementine would be willing to do for AJ........ but it doesn’t enhance the story in any meaningful way.  It affects what Clementine you get in the end, but that’s just some text on the screen.
I dunno, this choice could’ve done something... that’s all I’m saying.
1. Teaching Sarah to shoot
Tumblr media
Once again, Sarah finds herself on my dumb lists... and not in a good way. Sigh.
Alright, you wanna talk about the worst choice that meant absolutely nothing? Nothing at all?
You get back to the cabin in S2 after leaving either Nick or Pete, and Carlos asks you to watch Sarah while they go out to look for the rest. You find Sarah, you can take some pictures, and then she asks where her dad is.
She gets anxious and sits on the floor....but then she does something interesting. She pulls out a gun she found. It’s not loaded or anything, but she asks Clementine if she can teach her how to use it.
And you’re probably thinking, “Oh, that’s a good idea. She should know how to use a gun, but her dad is too over protective. This could help us in the future.” or “Oof, no, Sarah isn’t ready for a gun. What if that comes back and bites me in the ass? What if she shoots someone I don’t want her to shoot?”
Well, don’t worry your pretty little head because nothing comes of this.
Nothing.
You teach her to shoot, and it does nothing. She never picks up another gun ever again, she never does anything with what you taught her, and nothing happens.
Just.... wow.
At the very least... with the other picks on this list, you could stretch and make some sort of excuse for it having an impact on the story.... but this doesn’t do anything to further your relationship with Sarah, Carlos never finds out about it, there’s never a point where Sarah admits she found the gun, she doesn’t use it, she doesn’t give it to Clementine or anyone else to you, and it does nothing.
This scene could be completely removed and it wouldn’t change anything... which honestly, is something I can’t say for the rest of these dumb choices.
That’s what makes this the ultimate pointless choice.
---
Dishonorable Mentions
-Asking to go with Mike at the end of S2. Arvo will shoot Clementine no matter what and it’s dumb. -Keeping quiet about Mari when David asks you to. It doesn’t affect anything other than David being upset for two seconds, but you get thrown out and it doesn’t matter. -Trying to help Christa in S2 ep1. Either way, she gets shot at and you never see her again and it just doesn’t matter. -Honestly 400 Days.... just all of it. The only thing you get is pointless cameos if you get everyone to go with Tavia.  -Being nice to Larry. He still treats you like shit and accuses you of being a bitch to him anyway soooo.... yeah.  -Fixing the swing in S1 ep2. If you don’t do it, then Andy will.
----
It’s pretty telling that this T5F is just S2 and ANF choices.... sigh. Like sure, there are a lot of choices that don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things in S1 and TFS but most of those I can justify as being there to shape your story and are impactful in different ways..... but boy, there’s just something about S2 and ANF and their choices, isn’t there?
Anyway, what do you guys think? Do you agree with my choices or nah? Do you have a choice you don’t like and think is meaningless that wasn’t on the list? Lemme know, I’d love to hear it!
Have any suggestions for future T5F’s? Feel free to send ‘em in! :D
