op81 × rockstar ! gf
warnings ; kinda suggestive, description of reader, age gap (five years, reader is nineteen and oscar is twenty-four), drinking, smoking, and flirting. again, english is not my first language. sorry for any errors !
Oscar was having some days off in Dublin when you met him. It happened in a bar, after a show by the band of which you were the guitarist and vocalist.
He didn't know you. He had no idea who you were. But when he saw you in the dark place, lit only by colored lights, something clicked into his mind.
“That guy won't stop staring at you." said Gene, your friend and drummer.
“He was probably at the show. I kinda recognize him…”
You were too drunk to remember that guy was Oscar Piastri, your little brother's favorite F1 driver.
Your dad was obsessed with motorsport. When you were younger you used to watch a lot of races with him. But growing up, you got always more busy with your band, always writing about your feelings, practicing, and even doing some shows in random bars.
“He’s hot. You're single. You should go talk to him!” Gene continued.
“I'm definitely not doing it.”
You went to the bar and asked the bartender for a cuba libre.
Oscar kept staring at you. He loved the way you looked. Your makeup was a little messy, but in a sexy way. Your little white dress combined with a red laced bra fitted your body in a perfect way. It had a little transparency, letting some things for his imagination. Your bangs above the eyebrows highlighted your brown eyes. You were the most beautiful thing he ever laid his eyes on.
Suddenly, he decided it was time for a drink, too.
He sat down next to you, continuing to stare at you.
“Can I pay for a drink for you?” He finally said.
“Sure. Why not? I want a guiness.”
Seconds ago, you said you wouldn't talk to him, but now he was close to you, and you felt comfortable with that. He didn't look like the kind of person who would frequent this type of place. He was tall, in good shape. You could imagine him in a very well attended nightclub.
“Were you at the 3Arena today? I can recognize your face." You took a sip of your beer.
“No. I wasn't.” He said, looking into your eyes. “You probably recognize me because I'm a Formula One driver.”
“Oh God, sure. You're Oscar Piastri, right? My brother loves you.”
“Yes, I'm. That's good. How old is he?"
“Seven.” You said as you looked him straight in the eyes.
The silence between your voices enveloped you. All you could hear was the speakers blaring music. It wasn't awkward. On the contrary, it was actually comfortable. Maybe you were both too drunk to have a decent conversation.
“What were you doing at the 3Arena?”
“Playing guitar and singing.” You gave him a little smile.
“Oh, so do you have a band?”
He started to find you even more attractive the moment you said that.
“Yes, yes. I do. Since I was thirteen. We are growing now. You probably heard one of our songs on the radio recently.”
“That's fucking amazing.” He randomly said.
“Uhm… I really want a cigarette. Can we go outside?”
“Sure, prettie.”
You were leaning against the wall, with the cigarette between your lips, looking for the lighter lost in your bag.
“Do you need that?” He said as he took a lighter out of his back pocket.
Oscar didn't smoke. He tried it once, but it just wasn't his thing. But he always had a lighter with him, just in case he needed it.
You nodded, and he lit your watermelon marlboro.
Silence fell again. You only noticed how attractive Oscar was now. His defined chest and biceps were well outlined by the navy blue shirt. He approached you as you smoked and watched him.
He brushed a strand of hair from your face. You had never been so close. Your heart was beating fast with nervousness.
He looked deep into our eyes, trying to find out if you wanted the same thing he did.
He gave you a little peck on the lips, very sweetly.
“Oh I'm so sorry. I'm so hypnotized by you that I forgot to ask your name.”
You laughed. “That’s ok, Oscar. My name is y/n."
He placed his right hand on your waist.
“And how old are you, y/n?"
“I'm nineteen.”
Younger than him. Oscar wasn't the kind of guy who dated younger girls. But there was something different about you, something that attracted him.
“That's a beautiful name. Can I kiss you, y/n?" He said, whispering in your ear. You heard that Australian accent, and you could feel yourself melting from inside.
You just pressed your lips against his while holding his hair. Your cigarette was lost on the floor at that time.
The kiss was slow, hot, and passionate. He held your waist tightly with both hands. He seemed to be afraid that you would run away. You had your fingers tangled in his hair. You could tell you would faint under his touch. You could smell his cologne, it was probably very expensive. He continued to pull you closer, increasing the intensity of the kiss. It only stopped when you both ran out of breath.
“Holy shit!” You got scared when you heard Thomas, your bassist, almost screaming next to you and Oscar. The other band members were with him. All of them with beers in their hands.
“We were looking for you. Who's that, y/n?” He continued.
“Oh, hmm This is Oscar. Oscar, those are Thomas, Gene, and Paul. The rest of the band.”
Oscar greeted them politely.
“We are going back to the hotel. Wanna come with us?” Gene asked.
“Sure, yeah, It's late. You guys can go ahead, I'll be safe."
You could see the boys walking to the hotel. It wasn't that far, and they were probably too drunk to request an Uber.
“How are you going back to the hotel?” Oscar asked you.
“I'll probably just order an Uber, I don't know. I just wanted to talk a little more with you.”
He was holding you in his arms in the sweetest way possible.
“We can do it later. I'll take you to your hotel, I just need you to tell me where it is.”
You were probably crazy to be in a complete stranger's car going to a place you weren't very familiar with. But the alcohol was coursing through both of your bodies, and something inside you knew nothing bad would happen.
The music coming from the radio hissed at a barely audible volume. You stared at him as he drove.
Oscar stopped right in front of the hotel. The street was dark, only a faint yellow light allowed you to see each other.
You gave him a small kiss on the lips, which ended up evolving into a kiss as intense as the other you gave him.
When you realized, you were already sitting on his lap, pulling his hair and biting his lips. His hands were traveling all over your body.
You stopped kissing him when you felt his erection pressing against your thigh, just to tease him.
Still in his lap, you grabbed your bag and searched for a small notebook and a pen, writing your number on the last page and placing it in the car's cup holder.
“Thank you, Osc.” You said after getting out of the car and before closing the door.
⋆ ✴︎˚。⋆
A few months passed and you were already dating. More in love than ever.
Your band would perform for the first time as a headliner in a festival, and Oscar was there to support you.
The show was going amazing. When there were only six or five songs left, you started talking to the audience, once again.
“This next song is from a cover from a band that we love, it's really special to us. And I want to dedicate it to a really special person; Oscar, this one's for you, my love.”
You and the other band members started playing. You could hear the crowd screaming as you started singing, and Oscar had a smile from ear to ear along with blushing cheeks on his face.
“Give you my lovin'
Seven days a week
I'll be your honey
If you'll be sweet [...]”
“[...] Man says it's rainin', rainin' outside
I'll be out there in a little while'
Cause you see, rain reminds me of you
And everything has turned to you [...]”
“[...] When I see you
I wanna kiss you
But I know that ain't right
So I ask if I can hold you
Oh, babe, I need you so bad
Oh, babe, I only want to make you
Glad”
The song was 'Give You My Lovin'' by Mazzy Star. A song you mentioned in one of your conversations when you weren't even dating. And he remembered it, he remembers almost everything you say.
When the show was over, he was waiting for you in the backstage. You ran into his arms and kissed him softly.
“You were amazing. I love you so fucking much.” He said in your ears.
"I love you too, Osc."

Fast Lane Feelings | One Shot
Tumblr media
summary: you and lando never got along with each other until one day he finally tells what’s been going on with him
pairing: lando norris x f1driver! female reader
request by: Hello! Can I request a Lando Norris x female reader Emines to lovers? Only at the end it’s a bit steamy and they both race for McLaren and are very competitive? Thank you, great work! – @ripmyselfxd
author note: sorry this took so long to write! Enjoy ♥️
warnings: cursed words
one shot
You’re grateful today was your day off—but of course, you had to spend it stuck by Lando’s side. The two of you have never really gotten along. It’s always been the same cycle: constant bickering, sarcastic remarks, and the occasional cold shoulder when you just don’t have the energy to deal with him.
You’ve known Lando for three years now, and somehow, he still gives you the ick. You honestly don’t understand what everyone sees in him—what makes people gravitate toward him the way they do. Whenever he’s around, the energy shifts, and not in a good way.
It’s like a dark cloud settles over you the moment he walks into the room.
“I can’t believe I have to do this shit!” You mutter underneath your breath.
You knocked on the door of his hotel room, nerves buzzing as you waited for him to answer. You’d come to give your boss a piece of your mind—but now that you were here, the words felt stuck in your throat.
You raised your hand to knock again when the door swung open. Lando stood there, leaning casually against the frame, eyes narrowing with that trademark smirk.
“Ice Queen,” he said. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
You scoffed, brushing past him into the room and settling onto the couch like you owned it. “We need to talk, Golden Boy.”
Lando shut the door and turned to face you. “Let me guess—this is about how you lost to me three days ago?”
God, he was so fucking annoying.
“No,” you said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “This is about you disappearing. Why the hell aren’t you showing up for the race?”
He lets out a sigh. “The boss sent you, didn’t he?”
You breathed out, sharp and heavy. “I don’t have time for your bullshit Lando. What’s going on with you?”
Lando sank into the couch, leaving a small space between you. You stayed quiet, giving him room to gather his thoughts.
He exhaled slowly. “You know… ever since you beat me three times at Monza, it’s like I don’t even recognize myself on track anymore.”
“Huh? Come again?” You said, tilting your head with a confused expression.
He began explaining, “I lost my edge after you started beating me in all those races.”
You nodded, listening closely as he went on. “I’ve tried over and over to get my mojo back, but nothing’s worked.”
“Have you talked to Andrea about it?” you asked.
He gave a small nod. “Yeah, but he thinks the real issue is that I can’t race properly anymore… because of you.”
Your eyebrows shot up. “Me? I didn’t do anything.”
He closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them and looked at you. “I know, but…” he said, trailing off as he reached for your hand. “He thinks I’m in love with you.”
“What?” Your eyes widened as you looked at him. “Lando, we both know that can't be true.”
He stares at you in silence, unwilling to admit the truth to himself just yet. His heart pounds in his chest, faster with every passing second.
“Lando…” you whisper.
He clears his throat and said. “I–It’s true.”
Fuck!
This conversation was nothing like what you imagined. You pictured the two of you bickering, arguing playfully over who’s the better driver—not… this. Whatever this was.
You shake your head slowly. “Golden boy… you can’t fall for me.”
But he doesn’t look away. Instead, he shifts closer on the couch, the space between you disappearing.
“Why not?” he asks, voice low and steady.
You released a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding. “Because I’m not exactly easy to be with.”
“Says who?” he murmured, gently tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. “With me, you are.”
“That’s bullshit.” A scoff escapes you.
He leaned in closer, his voice low. “I can prove it.”
Your eyes flicked from his face to his lips. “Lando… please.”
“Can I kiss you?” he whispered, his nose brushing gently against yours.
Part of you had dreamed of this moment, but you never thought it would come so soon.
“Y-Yes.”
His lips met yours, soft and sure. You melted into the kiss, returning it with the same need. He pulled you into his lap, your legs straddling him as your fingers tangled in his hair. He trailed kisses down to your neck, leaving your heart racing with every touch.

I miss my husband so goddamn much
February 27th, 2025
I (35M) divorced my husband (36M) three years ago. And God, I miss him. I asked for a divorce for a few reasons, most of which being that his depression got exponentially worse day after day and he refused to seek treatment. Sometimes he wouldn't even go into work and ended up getting fired from his job. I stayed with him for so fucking long, praying that one day he would start trying to get better. It was all I ever wanted, but that day didn't come. I sobbed the entire time signing those papers, and when I handed them to him and asked for a divorce, he just gave me the emptiest, deadest look and signed them without a word. My heart felt like it had been shattered with a hammer, anger and sadness and fear tied together in the world's tightest, ugliest knot and inset deep into my chest.
I put on a brave face for my friends, tried to frame it as shackles coming off and a new beginning, but it was a lie. It just hurt, and it keeps hurting, and it will never stop hurting. He was my soulmate. I'll never love anyone like I loved him. He used to be so sweet and loving, so passionate and happy and every other wonderful thing a man could want from another.
They say each day gets easier, but it isn't for me. It's been three years and I'm still reaching over to the other side of the bed in the morning to pull him close, and it always stings when my hands touch fabric and not his skin. It's been three years and I'm still expecting to see his car in the driveway when I get home from work. It's been three years and my heart isn't any less broken than the day he left.
I've been stalking his socials, I'll admit. He's been getting back to the gym, started meds, and I see him smiling so genuinely in these photos. He looks so incredible. Maybe if I had just waited, he would have changed his mind and went to a doctor like he is now? Or was it me that held him down? Was I making it worse?
I hope not. I wanna go over to his place and just fall into his arms and beg him to take me back. Maybe he's wishing the same thing about me. If there's even a chance I could have my boy back I feel like I should try. I'll never know otherwise.
EDIT: One: I am a homosexual man. My husband is a homosexual man. I am not a woman. Yes, I know I'm effeminate and kind of emotional. Get creative.
Two: my husband was a binge drinker. He refused treatment no matter how much I begged. We got antidepressants but he wouldn't take them. I know he's started meds now because he's posted about them and his 2 yrs sober chip that he got last month.
Three: I never stopped loving him. I never loved him any less. Near the end of our marriage, I started drinking to cope. The second I realized I was, I realized he was dragging me down with him, and I couldn't help him anymore. I didn't dip the second it got hard. Many of you are being kind of rude. I'll accept that I wasn't the perfect husband, nobody is. But claims that I never loved him are just wrong and make me feel sick to my stomach.
EDIT 2: No, I am not the catalyst for this. His depression started when his young brother died terribly and unexpectedly. It's not because he just hated me so much. We were childhood sweethearts and had been together for years when this happened.
[UPDATE] I met my husband that I divorced 3 years ago
March 2nd, 2025
Well, with Reddit's advice, I did it. A few days ago, I called my (35M) ex-husband (36M) whom I divorced after 6 years when he refused to seek treatment for his depression.
I called him later in the evening. It was the first time we'd spoken since a bit of trouble he'd had while he was still drinking 2 1/2 years ago. He picked up on the second ring. Our conversation was a little stilted at first, as to be expected, but he said he was really glad to hear from me. We ended up meeting up for coffee yesterday as so many of you suggested. I'll admit: it was kind of hard to see him, but in a good way? He looked so much better than the last time I had seen him, but he looked exactly like the man I married. He had put off a ton of weight (he gained like 75ish pounds during his struggle with depression, and before some dick says so, I didn't leave him because of his weight gain), he looked way healthier and very put together. I'll just say it: he looked incredibly hot. What made it hard was that I couldn't kiss him hello like I used to. But God, the way his eyes lit up when he saw me, I barely needed to.
We got our coffee and sat, and he updated me a little on his life in the last 3 years.
What really turned his life around was in part the divorce but moreso a DUI (nobody was hurt, he was caught a few blocks from his apartment). He's since gone to rehab and AA, gotten his license back, and had to use a breathalyzer whenever he started his car for a while. He hasn't had a drop of alcohol since and I told him I was so fucking proud of him. He's also started antidepressants, and made a point of telling me that they're not SSRIs, but when I asked what that meant he got embarrassed and told me nevermind (???). Bottom line is that they've been helping him, he's back to being a gym rat, and he's almost completely turned his life around. This was around the point I started tearing up. It just felt so good knowing he was okay. Better than okay, he was *good*.
I also apologized to him for not sticking by him. He cut me off and said I had nothing to apologize for. He was a wreck, and I was being dragged down with him. That also felt good to hear. I apologized for not contacting him much during the last 3 years. That apology, he accepted.
He was dating someone for a few months, too. He broke up with him once he tried to get him to drink on New Year's. He seemed dismissive of the guy. Guess it wasn't too serious.
We got up and went on a walk after a few hours, and I think we both realized it felt like a first date. I had to stop myself from trying to hold his hand at a few points, I'll admit. We ended up sitting on a bench in a nearby park, and I confessed.
I told him I missed him more than anything, how I never stopped loving him, and how if he wanted to, I'd love to try again from the beginning this time. We'd go to couples' therapy, keep our heads above the water, and take it slow. He was quiet for a minute before he told me something. He said he was doing better now, but there may be a time where he sunk low again. Depression isn't easily cured, and he was far from cured. He still had bad days, but he said there would be one difference: he promised he would never stop trying to improve. He was never going to give up like he did before, and refused to neglect me like he used to. If I was willing to accept that truth, he was willing to try again. I agreed, and he pulled me into an embrace and snuck a kiss to my temple. You know when it's the first warm day of spring after a cold, harsh winter, and the soft breeze and basking sun hit your skin at the same time? It felt something like that, to the 1000th degree. After a while he walked me back to my car and squeezed my hand goodbye, and the second I got inside I started sobbing like a baby. Happy tears, though.
I'm currently sitting in bed, kicking my feet like a teenage girl, texting him back and forth to schedule an actual date. He said he'd plan everything, and try his best to make up for the birthdays and anniversaries he missed. He said it would "knock my socks off." What a dork. I love being in love. Not gonna lie, this is gonna be a bit hard to explain to my friends and family. Not looking forward to those conversations, but right now I don't care. My man loves me.
Thank you to everyone who had kind words to say, and all the people that messaged me with sympathy and advice. I hope we all find happiness, and love if we want it. I never would have made the leap if y'all hadn't encouraged me. Best of luck to all of you, and sorry for the overly flowery language <3
EDIT: we've scheduled a date for tomorrow evening. I'll let people know how it went two days from now in my final (unless something big happens) update.
EDIT 2: at his place presently. Shame me not, reddit.
[FINAL UPDATE] I went on a date with my ex-husband last night
March 5th, 2025
My (35M) ex-husband (36M) and I recently reconnected. I won't go over the details of why we split or our reconciliation since I'm sure the average redditor can click buttons and most likely read. He was the one taking me out, and promised that it would, in his words, "knock my socks off" to make up for his neglect of me. He sure as hell delivered.
A little backstory, we've been together since we were 15 and 16 respectively, and have never moved out of our hometown. This year would have been our 20th anniversary (of getting together, not marriage). We were dating secretly for about five years before our parents caught us one day during summer break. The fallout from finding out their son was gay actually made his parents split. His dad wanted to send him away to conversion therapy. He's seen his father maybe once per year on average, and every time he's incredibly cold towards me. Would never refer to me as his son-in-law, only my husband's "pal." I wonder why. Anyway, not what you're here to read. I'll get on with the lore.
He picked me up from the house and wouldn't tell me where we were going, but told me to dress warmly. He ended up taking me to the place where we met: a run down ice skating rink in our town. He used to do hockey, and I spent some time trying to learn figure skating until people started beating me up for it. Both sports would practice at the same time and I remember barely being able to keep my eyes off him. We went skating, I tried to pull off a few of the moves I remembered (he only had to catch me from falling on my ass once or twice, and I won't complain about an attractive man that I love hooking his arm around my waist), and we spent an hour or so there until our feet hurt. At one point I said that my face was getting cold, so he skated around in front of me and placed his gloved hands on my cheeks to warm me up. I just about burned a hole in the ice from how hard I was blushing, I swear to God.
He wasn't done then. We left and went to dinner, specifically the restaurant where we had our first date. It's a cheap hole-in-the-wall place, seeing as we were poor teenagers when we first met. We chatted and ate food that probably took 5 years off our lives, he was an incorrigible flirt, and even held my hand underneath the table like he did all those years ago. I know I said I never stopped loving him, and I stand by that, but I think I somehow fell in love with him a thousand times over again during that meal.
At the end of dinner, he asked if I had energy for one more simple thing, to which I agreed. He took me a while out of town to a dark sky zone park, specifically the one where he proposed to me ten years ago. He set out a blanket to sit on and another to cuddle under, and we went stargazing all bundled up together. You never know how much you miss the sound of someone's heartbeat until you haven't heard it for so long. We shared a bottle of sparkling grape juice in plastic champagne flutes and dumb, giggly kisses. It felt so similar yet so different. He told me in a moment of quiet that he loved me, and oh, God. It took everything I had not to cry. I barely hesitated before asking if he wanted to change venues. He seemed surprised, but eagerly accepted.
I ended up at his place, as some of you may have seen from my edit on my second post yesterday. I wanted to take it slower than this, but it was so hard to. I was so starved of affection and hadn't been intimate with anyone for just about six years. I'm gonna keep what happened at his between us, but all I'll say is that his medication was no issue and all of you should be jealous. I woke up in his bed this morning, reached over for him, and pulled him close just like I used to do. I haven't been this happy in a long time. We had a sleepy discussion and decided to get back together, but we're not using the term boyfriends. It just feels weird after all this time. So he's my partner, or my lover. He's mine.
Thank you, reddit. Wouldn't have done it without a little push from the internet. Let's see where all this goes.

Wrong Name
Summary: Reader visits her partner Jack in the ED to drop off his lunch catching the excited attention of all of his colleges much to his chagrin
Pairing: Jack Abbot x Reader
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: None! Just super cute fluff
Author’s Note: My first Pitt Fic! Basically, a short simple grumpy x sunshine reader cause I had the idea. Everyone in the Pitt loves the reader and Jack pretends to hate that, but everyone knows better. Again my first Pitt fic so any and all feedback appreciated and I hope you enjoy!
Check out part 2 here!
Tumblr media
To say Jack was surprised to see you at Dana’s desk was an understatement.
He had just left you a little over an hour ago, a silent kiss to your temple, a murmured I love you into your hair, a cup of coffee left in his wake on the countertop so it was cooled down by the time you got up, the same as every day. You were still asleep when he left could you have woken up with something? Did he miss something last night?
His head was so full of the hypothetical he didn’t take the extra second to acknowledge how at ease your body language was as you leaned against the tall desk, a soft smile on your lips as you nodded along to whatever Dana was saying.
Instead, he immediately crossed the ED in a few steps, sliding a hand to the small of your back to grab your attention, cutting of Dana’s story without a second thought.
“Hey what’re you doing here are you okay?”
Your eyes flickered briefly to his, the corners of your mouth pulling up slightly at his appearance as you grabbed his bicep and gave it a small squeeze. “Yeah don’t worry I’m fine” before immediately refocusing on Dana, silently signaling her to continue.
Dana, however, as she normally does, knew better, a look shared between the two women as she stayed silent and instead focused on Jack, the man himself having not moved his gaze from your form for a second.
Pinching your shirt at the waist softly he gave it a small tug, physically pulling your attention back to him as his eyes scanned your face “is it that headache you had the other night? Is it back? I can bump you up the CT line”
“Honey” you cut him off with that small laugh that always had his chest warming “I promise I’m fine I texted you like an hour ago to meet me in the parking lot, you just forgot your lunch”
He could physically feel the relief hit his system at your words, his shoulders dropping as he finally took a deep breath, his next words tumbling off his tongue before he could put any thought to them “you didn’t have to-“
But just as he knew you would, you cut him off with a shrug and the same words you always used when he tried to dodge being taken care off “I know but I wanted to”
He couldn’t have fought the fond smile off his face if he had tried, something he knew he was going to get shit over from Dana and inevitably Robby later. “Why didn’t anyone tell me you were here have you been waiting long?”
“No I’ve been talking to Dana” And it was so entirely you the way you stated it like it was obvious. As if this little act of kindness in going out of your way to get him food hadn’t hijacked your entire morning. He was nearly overwhelmed by the desire to pull you into him, barely registering the way you pivoted back to Dana at the mention of her name.
“A conversation we absolutely will be finishing” spoken like a threat that had the charge nurse chuckling, “drinks later? Location and time TBD?”
“Sounds good kid”
And maybe it was a little selfish of him to want you just to himself in that moment, to pull you out of the Pitt to get even just two minutes of you alone. But Jack had found over the past year that he liked being selfish when it came to you “Oh and Langdon was looking for you earlier if you haven’t seen him yet”
“You spoke to Langdon too” he’ll admit to only faking part of the exasperation in his tone that had you giggling.
“He’s got a new puppy” you protested with a grin “what was I supposed to do? Not ask to see photos”
“You’re right ridiculous question” he conceded easily, “now aren’t you supposed to be at work”
And Jack relished the way he knew what your exact reaction would be seconds before you made it, the way your eyes widened almost comically before you reached for his arm, pulling his watch specifically into your line of sight, Jack using the momentum to press a quick kiss to your temple before he could think any better of it.
“Shit I’m gonna be late” You groaned softly, Jack chuckling at the action.
“I mean it, you didn’t have to bring my lunch in today”
“Please we both know you wouldn’t eat anything if I hadn’t” you brushed him off thoughtlessly before brightening and exclaiming “oh before I forget”. Suddenly you were pulling back from him, reaching deeply into your bag and rummaging slightly before pulling out a fistful of protein bars “give these to Dennis”
“To Dennis” he repeated with a raised brow as you pushed them into his chest.
“Yeah Dennis, well except for the chocolate ones”
“You want me to give these to my med student” he repeated with another exasperated sigh.
Again you responded exactly like he hoped you would, a giggle and a teasing push against his chest “yes except for the chocolate ones he doesn’t like those he likes the fruit ones. He won’t tell you that though, he’ll gladly take them all but he’s just being nice about it because he doesn’t want to offend you”
He couldn’t help but appreciate how well you seemed to fit into his life. How you’d forged relationships with each member of the Pitt’s team that existed wholly outside of him. It was tough now to believe there existed a time when he had been hesitant to introduce you to the chaos of the Pitt given how you now had seemed to adopt each member of his chosen family on your own.
His train of thought was effectively cut off as he watched your gaze suddenly deviate from him to something behind him, the corner of your mouth ticking up as you took one of the bars back from his grasp and yelled across the room “Dennis”
The poor kid looked terrified for a brief moment as he spun around before breaking out into a relieved grin once his eyes landed on you.
That was all the acknowledgement you needed before you were throwing the bar at him, Whittaker to his credit only looking panicked for a brief moment before he was effortlessly catching the bar, grinning down at his new snack appreciatively once he had it “Thank you Mrs. Abbot”
“Not my name” you corrected breezily with a wave “but bug Jack if you want more I’m giving him the rest”
“Great now if you’re done upsetting the natural order of my ED don’t you have work to get to” Jack cut in with fake exasperation.
“Natural order of the Pitt” you scoffed “that’s an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one”
Your comment had Dana snorting as she didn’t even bother to try hiding the fact that she had been eavesdropping on your conversation up to this point.
“Yeah yeah now get out of here” he rolled his eyes with a fond smile “one of us has to make sure our bills our paid this month”
“I’m going I’m going” you groaned with a matching eye roll, pushing up slightly onto your toes and pressing a quick kiss to his cheek, pulling away much too quickly for Jack’s liking with a whispered I love you.
Then you were gone, headed back the way you came leaving nothing but the soft scent of your perfume in the air around him as Jack forced his eyes down to the chart in his hands, pointedly ignoring Dana’s gaze.
Just when he thought he was going to be trapped in the inevitable teasing of his charge nurse Dr. King came running up to the station, Jack more than happy to turn his attention to her and ready to distract himself with whatever case had her moving so fast.
Instead, however, Mel’s expression with brimming with barely contained excitement, her gaze searching everywhere around Jack but never properly landing on the man himself “Was that Y/N I heard? Is she here?”
With a disbelieving huff, Jack went back to his chart “you just missed her”
“No she’s by the door with Robby” Dana cut in with a smile, enjoying the way Jacks neck nearly snapped as he whipped his gaze across the ED to where you now stood with Robby, talking animatedly about something while the older man listened with  a smile on his face and hands in his pockets, looking much more relaxed than the two of them usually saw him within the department.
Mel peeled off without a second word to either of them, the pair watching the way your expression lit up once more as you recognized her as she approached.
“You gonna correct that” Dana nodded vaguely in your direction, her and Jack leaning onto the counter of the nurse’s station from opposite sides watching you give Mel an enthusiastic high five over whatever story she had rushed over to tell you.
“Probably talk to everyone at some point” Jack shrugged in response “the Pitt can’t afford to come to a screeching halt every time she so much as walks in the doors”
“No dumbass” Dana admonishes with a dramatic groan “it’s good the way everyone brightens up when she’s here. God knows we could use some positivity around here. I mean Whitaker’s comment about the wrong name”
“I mean she’s already told him to call her by her first name but I could talk to him-“
Dana silenced Jack with a glare, the attending turning his attention back to you from across the room as you eagerly talked to Mel and Robby.
“Was thinking about asking Robby to go ring shopping with me this weekend” he admitted softly “Scale of 1-10 how bad of an idea is that”
“Not where I thought this story was going but love is love so I support-“ now it was Jack’s turn to silence Dana with a glare, the charge nurse enjoying way too much the way the tips of his ears colored at the admission.
“a seven” she mused with a shrug, turning her attention back to you as you finally said goodbye to the two doctors “maybe a six” she let the silence settle around them and watched as Jack eyed her with a skeptical glare from her periphery “invite me along and I can keep it below a three”
Jack studied her for a second, crossing his arms over his chest before nodding softly “done”
Dana fought to keep the grin off her face as Robby finally started to make his way towards the two of them, Jack catching him slipping an awfully familiar looking protein bar into the pocket of his sweatshirt “Jesus how many of those does she have”
Robby shrugged with a chuckle, eyes casting up to the board above the desk as he did so “she mentioned something about having extra chocolate ones”
“I saw her slipping Santos bags of trail mix earlier if you’d prefer that” Dana chimed in with a smirk as Jack huffed dramatically.
“did everyone get to talk to her but me this morning?”
“You get her every day, stop being so selfish” Robby clasped his shoulder with a smug grin, giving it a soft shake.
“Selfish” Jack repeated under his breath with a shake of his head, eyes going up to the board to pick out his next case as he did so “god forbid I want to spend time with my future wife”
He hadn’t even realized he said it out loud until the Pitt around him seemed to go unnaturally quiet. Casting his gaze back down he caught Robby and Dana sharing pointed, amused looks before turning their teasing grins back on him.
All he could get out was a simple “no” before he was storming off to the closest room, refusing to acknowledge the way Robby yelled out a threat after him “We will be talking about this later”

“i call shower first!” you exclaim the second the garage door is open, sprinting past matt up the stairs to his bathroom.
“there’s three showers,” chris says matter-of-factly as you blow past him on the steps, holding a hand out in confusion.
matt sighs and follows behind you, passing chris as well, “yeah, but you don’t have to share,”
you’re already on the mainfloor, running into matt’s bedroom to grab the change of clothes you’d left earlier.
“i’m so glad i don’t have a girlfriend,” chris mutters, earning a smack upside the head from nick, “jesus, fuck, what,”
“you’re just annoying,” nick says, deciding it’s a good enough explanation and getting a laugh out of matt.
“agreed,” matt’s still chuckling when they reach the kitchen table, setting down the take out the four of you had gotten on your way back to the house. he hears the water turn on in his bathroom, accompanied by the soft sound of your voice as you sing along to your music.
“oh she’s a nicki fan,” nick says to no one in particular, referencing the tik tok sound when he notices you’re listening to a nicki minaj song.
matt looks up from the bag of food and laughs.
chris sinks into the couch but looks over at matt, arm slung over the cushions, “i wonder if she could tell our voices apart,” he says after a second.
“what?” matt asks, thinking the question is mildy rediculous.
“like do you think she could recognize your voice?” chris explains, wandering into the kitchen now. opening a pepsi and leaning up against the counter.
nick chimes in now, having been fiddling with the vlog camera and battery, “like compared to you and me?” he asks chris, glancing back at matt as if to say ‘is this guy for real?’
“yeah,” chris nods.
“yeah, obviously she’d be able to tell my voice apart from yours,” matt is looking back at the food again, tone matter-of-fact, as if what he’d said was absolute common sense.
chris is quiet for about half a second and matt thinks that’s the end of that absurd conversation. it isn’t, of course.
“should we test it out?” chris asks through a sip of soda.
matt officially gives up on trying to set the food up, throwing his hands up in mock surrender before turning to chris, “and how are we gonna do that?”
chris shrugs, but nick has an idea, “chris, you could like, just go ask her for something, if you left something in the bathroom—“
“absolutely not,” matt shuts it down immediately with a shake of his head, “you're not going in the bathroom when my girlfriend is showering,”
“i won’t even go all the way in!! i’ll cover my eyes,” chris promises, but matt is still skeptical. “i’ll just like poke my head in the door and ask if i left like..a belt or some shit in there,” is chris’ next offer.
matt sighs and thinks about it, weighing the pros and cons. of course you can tell his voice apart from his brothers…right? he’s making himself nervous, pysching himself out and worrying they all sound the same to you. it upsets him for some reason, he can’t quite decide why.
“fine,” he agrees after a beat of silence, convincing himself you know whis voice well enough to separate it from chris’, and if you can’t, he thinks he might actually feel a sick twinge of unjustified jealousy.
“yes,” chris mutters under his breath, always excited to pull a prank on anyone.
“this is definitely going in the vlog,” nick says, still messing with the camera and coming to sit at the kitchen table where matt is now.
“i can’t believe i agreed to this,” matt mumbles, rubbing his eyes and taking a deep breath. he stands from his seat and walks over to the wall where he can see the bathroom door, feeling some what protective, like he needs to supervise chris to make sure he doesn’t wander too far into the bathroom.
“what should i say?” chris turns back arms pulled in close to his body as if he’s nervous. he’s already grinning and trying to keep from laughing.
“ooh, call her sweetheart, matt always does that,” nick suggests, wiggling his brows in matt’s direction to tease him.
“oh my god,” matt groans softly, rubbing at his eyes, “i fucking hate you guys,”
“okay, i’m going in,” matt drops his hands at that, eyes on his brother immediately. chris puts a hand over his eyes, just as he said he said he would before knocking on the door. nick has the camera out to record and is trying to stifle his laugh in the collar of his hoodie.
at the sound of the knock matt hears your voice, calling out for him, no doubt thinking it’s him at the door. he has to cover his mouth, partly out of nerves but also to keep himself from saying anything.
“yeah,” chris starts, needing to take a second before continuing because he’s already making himself laugh. “yeah, sweetheart, did i leave my belt in here?” he asks, barely stood in the doorway of the bathroom.
“uhh, i think it’s in your bedroom?” you say after a slight pause, about to poke your head out from behind the shower curtain, but chris has already mumbled a ‘thanks’ and essentially sprinted out of the bathroom, closing the door and crumbling to the floor in giggles.
“you’re not fucking real,” matt shakes his head, laughing softly himself and pushing off the wall to go back to the kitchen table. he’s a bit bummed that you didn’t realize it wasn’t his voice, but he keeps that to himself.
nick pans the camera over to matt’s face, which seems expressionless, even with both his brothers cackling outside of the frame.
you come out of the bathroom in a cloud of steam, heading into matt’s bedroom to drop the clothes you’d changed out of. matt is instantly sitting back up, the legs of his chair scraping along the hardwood floors.
“ooh, someone’s pissed,” nick turns the camera to himself, eyeing the now closed door.
“that was too fucking good,” chris says after a deep breath, still recovering from laughing so hard. he pulls a chair out next to nick and the two start to explain what had happened to the camera, eyes flicking up to matt’s door every few seconds.
in the bedroom you’re putting your dirty clothes back into your bag when matt comes in, looking a little bit pouty, “hey baby,” you turn towards him, laughing at the slightly pathetic look he gives you, “what’s up?” you wonder.
“m’ tired,” he tells you, slumping up against you for a hug. you wrap your arms around him and rub his back, letting him lay his weight into you.
“we’ll eat and go to bed, yeah?” you give his back another little pat when he nods against you, “mkay, let’s go,” you kiss his cheek quickly, only to have him turn his head in search of a real kiss. you oblige of course.
nick and chris have already started eating and updating the vlog on their day when you and matt come out of the bedroom. matt joins them at the table but you head for the fridge to grab a drink. “oh, did you find your belt?” you ask matt, still digging around.
“what?— oh yeah” he mumbles, gaze turned down to his fries.
“okay good. by the way you sounded so much like chris when you came in— it freaked me the fuck out” you say with your head in the fridge, still searching for the diet coke you know you left inside the door, “did one of you drink my coke–”
“wait what?” matt’s head snaps up, food forgotten.
“hmm?” you turn around to find all three boys looking at you. nick’s mouth open in a half smile and chris clearly trying not to burst into a fit of uncontrollable laughter. matt’s just staring at you with eyes a little bit too wide before he speaks up.
“what do you mean i sounded weird?” he asks, leaning forward. you notice nick’s shut up about whatever he was saying to the camera earlier, pointing the lens at you now.
“i dunno, when you said sweetheart it just sounded super fucking weird— why are you guys looking at me like that–” you have to ask, feeling slightly weirded out by the intensity of their gazes
“i knew it!!” matt cheers, punching the air and doing a silly little dance as nick doubles over and starts hitting the table.
chris’ jaw drops and he presses his fingers into his eyes as he laughs next to his brother, leaning on him.
matt bounds over to you with a grin, arms wrapping around your waist and lifting you off the ground slightly.
“whaaaat,” you giggle, clearly confused by their reaction.
“it was me,” chris manages to say between bouts of laughter, “we– we were trying to see if you could tell our voices apart.”
“of course i can tell your voices apart, especially your voice,” you turn towards matt, saying it like it should be obvious, like it’s silly they doubted you for even a second.
matt’s just grinning at you, feeling a strange sense of pride swelling in his chest, “i knew you could,”
“bullshit!” chris exclaims, both him and nick still leaning against each other as they laugh.
“he’s right, you were freaked the fuck out,” nick manages to say between giggles, “you watched chris like a fucking hawk when he opened the bathroom door,” he looks over at you, his smile contagious, “he was definitely freaked the fuck out,”
matt groans and drops his head against your shoulder. you brush your fingers through his hair and chuckle to yourself, “awe matt,” you coo, “i definitely know your voice, i’ll probably be hearing lots of it later anyways.”

Rafe sat in his truck outside the unassuming brick building for longer than he’d care to admit, over two hours. The sign out front read “Coastal Therapy Center” in simple, soothing letters, but nothing about this felt soothing.
Therapy.
If someone had told him just three months ago he’d be here, he would have laughed in their face. Therapy was for weak people, that was what Ward Cameron had drilled into him since he was a kid. It was the kind of shit he’d spent his whole life avoiding because, what was the point? Nothing ever changed. Not for him, not for his so-called family.
After his mom died, Ward’s solution was to bury it—all of it. Grief, pain, confusion. “Camerons don’t cry,” he’d said. “We keep moving forward.” But what if forward felt like walking through hell?
The door felt impossibly far away, but he knew he had to get out.
“Get your shit together man,” he muttered under his breath.
He could hear his dad’s voice in his head, unforgiving. Weak. Pathetic. That same voice had driven him for years, pushed him to be stronger, tougher, to bury every fucking thing he felt. But it wasn’t Ward’s voice that mattered now, it was yours, the Picture of your eyes shining with tears the last time you’d spoken to him.
He glanced at the building again, still not knowing if he believed in it, if it could fix whatever was broken inside him. But he did know one thing: if he didn’t at least try, he’d lose you for good.
Rafe exhaled sharply, shoving open the truck door, but before he walked it, he pulled a pack of cigarettes from his jacket pocket. His fingers fumbled with the lighter, the flame sputtering before finally catching. He took a drag, the smoke burning his lungs in a way that almost felt good.
He exhaled slowly, watching the gray wisps disappear into the air. He flicked the cigarette to the ground and crushed it under his boot. He should just leave. Get back in the truck, drive somewhere, anywhere but here.
“Fuck it,” he muttered, pushing himself off the wall and shoving his hands in his pockets as he walked back to the door. One foot in front of the other, he told himself, although it felt like walking to his own execution. The waiting room was quiet, with soft music playing in the background.
He hated it already. He didn’t belong here, but he chose to stay, his hands shoved deep in his jacket pockets, his jaw clenched so tight it hurt like a bitch. He couldn’t stop his legs from bouncing as he waited for the receptionist to notice him.
When she eventually looked up and smiled, he nodded stiffly, avoiding her. He didn’t want her kindness. Didn’t deserve it. Rafe wasn’t sure what he was supposed to say when he walked into that first session.
He didn’t know how to explain the mess, the voices in his head, the anger that raged over and the guilt that followed like a shadow. But he knew why he was here.
When the therapist finally called his name, Rafe hesitated for half a second before standing. She looked normal enough—glasses, sweater, clipboard—but it still made his skin crawl. He felt like she could see through him, as if she already knew all the shit he’d done and thought and didn’t want to admit to anyone, especially himself.
“Rafe?” she called again, her voice patient. He didn’t deserve that either, but he nodded and followed her to the room.
It was small, the kind of place that made him feel like a caged animal, he sat on the couch because what the hell else was he supposed to do, and stared at the floor, picking at a thread on his jeans.
“So,” she started, sitting across from him, crossing her legs like this was just a normal conversation. “What brings you here today?”
“Huh, what doesn’t?” he said before he could stop himself. He glanced up at her, half expecting her to kick him out right there.
But she didn’t, instead she simply nodded, like she got it, she’d heard worse.
“Okay,” she said. “Let’s start with whatever feels the hardest.”
He leaned back, running a hand over his face.
Where the fuck was he even supposed to start? His mom dying? His dad? The drugs, the fights, the hole he’d dug so deep he wasn’t sure he’d ever crawl out? Or maybe with you, with the way he’d pushed you away until you had no choice but to hate him?
“I don’t know,” he said finally. His eyes stayed glossed over on a spot on the carpet “I guess...uh, I should start with my mom, right? She died when I was fourteen. Leukemia.”
The therapist didn’t say anything, just nodded like she was giving him space to keep going. He hated the silence, how much it made him feel, but he kept going, because if he was going to do this shit right, he might as well not half-ass it.
““I’m sorry to hear that,” she said gently. “What do you remember most about her? What was she like?”
Rafe’s lips twitched, “She was… everything, y’know?” His throat felt sore, “I know everyone says that shit about their mom, but she really was. She was the one who kept everything together. When my dad was being—”
He stopped short, his jaw twitching at how hard he bite his tongue.
“When he was being what?” the therapist prompted.
“When he was being him, she was the one who’d step in. She’d tell him to back off, that I was just a kid, or that I didn’t deserve whatever shit he was throwing at me that day. She was the only one who ever really had my back.”
“How did losing her affect your relationship with your dad?”
“It changed everything. When she got sick, it was like… I don’t know, like everything just fell apart. She was the glue, y’know? Without her, my dad just—he went full-on Ward Cameron.”
His voice cracked on the last word, and he swallowed hard, “I remember the day she died,” he said after a long pause. “I thought I’d have more time. They kept saying it was bad, but I didn’t think it would happen that day. And then it did. Just like that.”
He rubbed his hands together, the motion frantic, restless. “I didn’t even cry. I just sat there, staring at the floor while my dad kept saying, ‘We’ll get through this. We’re Camerons. We don’t fall apart.’ And I was like, okay, I guess that’s what we’re doing then. Not falling apart. Just… moving forward.”
“What does that mean to you, ‘full-on Ward Cameron’?”
“It means he turned me into his fucking project.”
“Did he ever talk to you about what you were feeling? About how hard it was to lose her?” the therapist asked, her tone pointed.
“No,” Rafe said immediately,“My dad never wanted to talk about it. He acted like it was this... inconvenience. Yeah, he was sad, but he just buried it, wanted me to do the same.”
“What do you mean by that?” she prompted
Rafe let out a bitter laugh.
“I’m the oldest, out of three. Not just the oldest— the only son. Wen she died, my dad decided I had to step up, be the man of the house. Take care of my sisters, keep everything running smoothly. Be his goddamn mini-me, like that was even possible. I was fourteen, but that shit didn’t matter. My dad expected me to bury all the shit I was feeling, I had to be twice as strong because I was the only man left.”
“How did that make you feel?” she asked, her tone measured but firm.
“How do you think it made me feel?” he snapped, his voice rising before he caught himself. He sighed, leaning forward again and dropping his head into his hands. “Shit, sorry,” he muttered. “I didn’t mean to…”
“It’s okay,” she nodded, not the least bit fazed, “But I think it’s important to answer that question. How did it make you feel?”
“Like shit,” he admitted after a long pause. “I couldn’t do anything right. I was pissed at him for putting all of that on me, pissed at my sister for needing me, pissed at her for dying and leaving me with all this. And most of all, pissed at myself because no matter what I did, it was never enough. Not for him, not for me.”
“Do you think you could have stopped it?” the therapist asked softly.
Rafe’s head snapped up at that, but then he shook his head. “No,” he admitted, “I know I couldn’t, it wasn’t my fault. But it felt like it was, if I’d been better—smarter, stronger—she would’ve stayed. Or at least… she would’ve been proud of me for trying.”
He hasn't said it out loud since that night, with you.
She pursed her lips, as she took notes, “You should give yourself more credit, for how much you’ve survived.”
“Credit? For what? Being a fuck-up?”
She barely looked up from her notebook, changing the direction of her questions, “What do you think your mom would say to you now, if she could?”
Rafe’s throat tightened, and he looked away, “I don’t know. Fuck, maybe... maybe she’d say she’s proud of me for being here. For trying to fix it, even if I should’ve done it years ago,” He paused, swallowing hard. “She probably would think I’m a fucking idiot, I pushed away the one person who actually fucking mattered.”
“Who’s that?” the therapist asked gently.
“My girlfriend,” He bit his tongue, the word stinging, “Ex-girlfriend now, I guess. After my dad died, I just—I started pushing her away. Picking fights over Ward, shutting her out when she tried to help me see the truth about him,” He swallowed hard, his throat burning.
He hadn’t expected to feel this vulnerable, but now that he’d started talking about you, about what he’d ruined, it was hard to stop.
“She’s the one, y’know?” he muttered, his voice distant as though he was speaking to himself more than anyone else. “I fucked it all up.”
“What happened?”
Rafe let out a shaky breath.
“I was an asshole. I told her I didn’t need her, that she should just leave, like it wasn’t me who was the fuckin’problem. She did—she left, thought if I cut her loose or pushed her away, maybe I wouldn’t feel so fucking broken. Maybe if I wasn’t constantly looking at her and seeing everything I couldn’t be, I could... I don’t know. Get my shit together or some bullshit.” He rubbed his temples, frustration mounting “But then, like a fucking idiot, I started seeing someone else. All I could think about was how much it would hurt her if she found out. And it did.” His voice cracked, “It fucking destroyed her, I knew it would. That’s the worst part—I fucking knew, and I still let it happen, like the selfish piece of shit I am.”
He pressed his palms to his eyes, hoping it could block out the memory of you—your tear-streaked face.
“What do you think that relationship was about?”
His fists clenched again, “A distraction? I thought if I just... started fresh, started with someone who didn’t know all my baggage, someone who wouldn’t make me feel like I was constantly failing, I could just... forget. Forget everything. Forget her, forget my dad, forget how fucked up I was.”
“And did it help you forget?” she asked, her voice steady, but full of understanding.
“No,” He gritted out, “I couldn’t stop thinking about her, even when I was with someone else. Every time I closed my eyes, it was her face I saw. Her voice I heard in my head, telling me I could do better, be better. Shit, all I could do was prove her wrong.”
The therapist leaned forward slightly, her expression compassionate. “It sounds like she means a great deal to you.”
“Talking about her,” He paused, wincing as if he was in physical pain, “She’s just—fuck, man—she’s always in my head. It’s worse than talking about my parents, worse than remembering my mom dying or my dad. Because with them, it’s just... loss, y’know? Her? I had her, she was there. She loved me, and I ruined it.”
“What do you think she would say to you now, if she could hear this?” the therapist suggested, “You don’t have to think about it, if you don’t want to.”
Rafe’s breath hitched, and he rubbed the back of his neck. He chuckled, but it came out jagged “Shit, that sounded real fuckin’ pathetic, huh? I can’t even talk about her without losing my shit.”
“It’s not pathetic. Give it a try.”
“I don’t know,” He sighed, pinching the bridge of his noise, “That it’s too late? She’s done with me, and I deserve it. I think she’d still tell me to get my shit together and she’s proud of me for trying, even if I’m still the same fucked-up mess I was when she left, even if she hates me. That’s the kind of person she is.” His throat tightened again, and he looked away. “But even if she did, it doesn’t change the fact that I broke her heart.”
The therapist let the silence stretch for a moment before speaking again. “It’s clear that you’re carrying a lot of pain, not just from losing her, but from how you see yourself in all of this. Have you ever thought about what it might look like to forgive yourself?”
“Forgive myself?” Rafe repeated, his voice incredulous. He shook his head, scoffing. “I don’t even... know what that would look like, y’know?” His leg started bouncing again, the restless energy coursing through him. “How do you even do that? Is there, uh, like, a fucking manual or something for that shit?” His voice cracked on the last word, and he shook his head, “I keep replaying it. All the shit I said to her.”
The therapist didn’t say anything, just watched him, her expression poised. He hated that, how calm she was when he felt like he was losing it.
He huffed, leaning back against the couch. “I mean, yeah, maybe that’s why I’m here. I don’t even know where to fucking start. It’s just—fuck, it’s just a lot. Too much.”
“It’s a lot of guilt for just one person, Rafe,” she pointed out, “Your mom, your dad, your relationship. And I think you’re right—talking about it won’t change the past, but it might help you figure out how to move forward.”
He scoffed “Yeah, okay. Move forward. Sounds easy enough.”
“It’s not easy,” she admitted. “But it’s possible. You don’t have to figure it all out today, or even next month.”
“I don’t even know where to start.”
“You’ve already started,” she pointed out. “You’re here.”
You’re here.
Those two words rattled around in his skull. He was here, but why? To make himself feel better? To prove to himself—or you—that he could do this, could change? Did he even believe that?
He thought about the nights he spent pacing his room, phone in hand, your number glowing on the screen. He’d wanted to call, to apologize, to beg, but he couldn’t. What would he even say?
Rafe let out a long breath, his shoulders slumping, his foot tapping out an uneven rhythm. He didn’t have it in him to argue, not anymore.
“Yeah,” he muttered, “I’m here.”
He was there, sure, but the room still felt small, the air dirty, his own body too restless to sit still for another second. His hands clenched into fists against his thighs, his nails biting into the fabric of his levi’s.
“You say you’re a mess, but you’re here,” the therapist said after a moment, her tone even. “You’re talking about it, trying to figure out what went wrong and what you can do to make it right. That doesn’t sound like someone who’s given up.”
He wanted her to push, to give him a reason to bolt out of there, to justify why this whole thing was a stupid mistake. But she didn’t, she was waiting like she had all the time in the world.
“Why’s it gotta be like this, huh? Why does everything have to hurt so f-fucking much? Why can’t I just... be normal? Like everyone else?”
“Normal is a lot more complicated than it looks. What does ‘normal’ mean to you?”
He scoffed, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. “I don’t know. Not waking up every day feeling like... like there’s this weight on my chest.”
She nodded slowly, her gaze firm but not invasive. “That sounds exhausting.”
“Yeah, well, welcome to my life,” he scoffed, running a hand through his hair. “It’s like... I can’t turn it off, y’know?” He gestured vaguely at himself, at the space around him. “It’s just there. Always.”
“You mentioned earlier that you feel like you’re not enough,” she said, her tone thoughtful. “Not enough for who?”
“For anyone,” he said immediately, then paused, his throat tightening. “For my dad, for my sisters... for her. I mean, shit, if I can’t even be enough for me, how the fuck am I supposed to be enough for anyone else?”
The therapist smiled faintly, not unkindly. “That’s what we’re here to understand.”
Two hours later and 300$ short, his phone buzzed on the passenger seat, the screen lighting up with two missed calls and a flood of texts. All from Topper.
Rafe grabbed the phone, unlocking it with his thumb and scrolling through the messages.
Topper: “Bro. SOS.” “I think she hates me.” “Like, actually hates me.” “Call me back. This is a situation.”
He huffed out a breath, tossing the phone back onto the seat. “Jesus Christ,” he muttered. Topper’s idea of a crisis was probably that your coffee order had foam when you wanted oat milk or some shit.
Rafe rubbed his temples knowing he wasn’t exactly in a position to play mediator.
The last call came in five minutes ago, he muttered, “What the fuck did you do now?” and hit the call button.
Topper picked up on the first ring.
“Rafe!” Topper’s voice was a mess— frantic, breathless, like he’d just run a marathon. “Okay, okay, it’s official—she’s gonna kill me or us—”
“Top, what the fuck are you talking about?” He snapped, already annoyed.
“I—uh—Did you tell her I told you?” Topper stammered. “Because she blocked me, everywhere. She told me, ‘Never speak to me again,’ and blocked me! I’m dead. She’s gonna cut me off for good, man.”
Rafe bit the inside of his cheek, “I didn’t, but Sarah knows you know.”
“Why would you tell her?” Topper grumbled out, “You know she hates me too. She’s the enemy.”
“She’s my sister you fuckin’ idiot.”
“Semantics.”
Rafe leaned back in his seat, staring at the ceiling of his truck. He wanted to hang up, but Topper’s desperation was almost pathetic enough to make him stick around
His friend fell silent for a moment. Then, quietly: “You think she’s gonna be okay? I mean, with everything?”
“I don’t know. But she’s strong. She’s gonna do what she needs to do—whether we’re in the picture or not.”
Topper swallowed audibly. “So… what do I do?”
Rafe sighed, “Give her space. Just… back off and let her come to you. If she even wants to.”
“It’s kinda crazy, right? Asking you for advice? For the longest time, you were public enemy number one. You, the big, bad ex who broke her heart.” Topper’s laugh was nervous, he knew he was pushing it but couldn’t stop himself. “Now she hates me more. Like, I dethroned you. That’s wild.”
 “Yeah, hilarious,” he muttered.
Topper either didn’t catch the sarcasm or chose to ignore it. “A real plot twist. I knew I’d screw up eventually, but I didn’t think I’d ever top your record.”
“Topper,” Rafe growled, “this isn’t a fuckin’ joke. You don’t even know the half of it.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? You mean, like… she really hates you, or…?”
Wow.
Rafe clicked his tongue in annoyance, “The fuck you think?”
"Wait, wait," Topper said quickly, his voice climbing. "You still haven’t asked her? Confirmed all this? What if I—what if I misunderstood or something?"
His eyes squeezed shut, as if the sheer force of Topper’s stupidity might give him an aneurysm. "Yeah, fuckin' genius. Because it’s so easy to ask someone who won’t even look at me, let alone talk to me."
"Okay, okay, fair," Topper admitted, “Your sister could’ help.”
“Again Top, be fucking serious.”
"Yeah, okay, nevermind. But what if it’s not true? What if I made things worse for no reason?"
"You did make things worse," Rafe snapped, his patience hanging by a thread. "You’re lucky she hasn’t shown up at your door to shoot you.”
"Not helping, dude," Topper muttered, then hesitated. "So… what’re you gonna do? I mean, if she won’t talk to you, if Sarah won’t fess up, how’re you gonna know for sure? What if she really is—y’know—and you’re just sitting here like a dumbass, waiting for a miracle?"
Rafe opened his eyes, staring blankly at the dashboard. Topper wasn’t wrong, but hearing it said out loud made his stomach burn, especially after he just spent a good fucking hour talking about you, pouring his feelings out to a stranger he paid for.
Was he wasting time—time you needed him to be stepping up?
"I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing, okay? I want to know, but—she’s got every right to hate me, man. How am I supposed to just… show up and ask her something like that, huh?”
Topper exhaled loudly, his usual bravado replaced with uncharacteristic uncertainty. "Yeah, I guess you’re kinda in a lose-lose situation. Damn. That’s rough, bro."
"Thanks for the insight. Real helpful," Rafe grumbled, running a hand over his face.
“She’s blocking me, she’s not talking to you—you think she’s just gonna wake up one day and decide to make it easy for us? For you?"
Rafe sighed, "No. She’s not."
"So… what’s the move?"
Rafe stared out the windshield, his heart pounding in his chest. What was the move? He didn’t have an answer.
"Guess I’ll figure it out," he said finally, voice rough around the edges.
Topper hummed thoughtfully. "Well, uh, good luck with that. And, y’know, if you figure it out… let me know if I’m, like, still alive in her eyes or if I should start preparing for witness protection."
Rafe rubbed his forehead, trying to avoid the headache that was building behind his eyes. "You’re on your own there.”
"Fair," Topper said lightly, “Shit, this is depressing. We should go on a boat ride tomorrow.”
A boat day? He could almost hear the suggestion in Topper's voice: a desperate, half-hearted attempt to get away from it all.
"Yeah," Rafe hummed, "Maybe.”
"Seriously, though, it might help," Topper said, but he could tell the guy was genuinely losing it, "Get out on the water, clear our heads, get some space.”
Rafe pinched the bridge of his nose, staring at the dashboard “Space,” he repeated hollowly. Empty. "Yeah, I guess.”
Topper's voice came through again, sounding more serious "Just don't stay in your head too long, man. Don't get stuck there. You deserve a break too.”
Maybe the boat ride was the kind of distraction he needed to stop the spiral he’d been going down over the past few days. To stop thinking about all the things he couldn’t fix right now.
"Alrigh’, we’ll do the boat thing."
Topper, as if relieved that Rafe was playing along, responded with a chuckle. “Sweet. I’ll get the cooler ready. It’ll be good. I’ll try not to drive you completely insane.”
“Don’t make any promises,” He rolled his eyes, feeling the tension in his body soothe slightly, though it was still there—a bruise that hadn't healed.
The call ended shortly after, leaving him alone with his thoughts again.
He glanced at the phone, the notifications still lighting up with messages from Topper. He barely glanced at them, his mind turning instead to you, as always. To the things he should have said, the things he should have done. To the feeling of you slipping farther away, out of his reach, out of his life.
He didn’t know what the hell he was doing anymore, didn’t know how to fix any of this.
He just knew that at least for a little while, he wouldn’t have to be alone with his thoughts.
Tumblr media
You were at ponguelandia again for the night, it wasn’t exactly where you wanted to be, but beggars can’t be choosers, right?
Sarah had insisted, practically dragged you here after hearing about your “severe anemia” situation. Add the fact that carrying the baby could fuck up your health to the point where you’d be bedridden for the rest of your life (or worse), and it was a recipe for a meltdown.
You couldn’t be alone right now, not after all that. Being around people was better than being alone.
Her and John B were being everything you needed, so you’d put on a happy face and pretend you weren’t dying inside. They were doing their whole supportive couple thing, and it was almost everything you needed—if it weren’t also so annoyingly them. Could they be more in love? Probably not. It was nauseating in the best and worst way, watching the life you could’ve had with someone else if things had turned out differently.
Then there was Kie and JJ. They were around, too, in their usual JJ-and-Kie way: watching you, but not prying, holding back out of respect—or pity. They knew you’d passed out on the beach two weeks ago and that you were “sick,” but Sarah had spared them the details. Small blessings, you guessed.
You were trying your best to keep up the whole "everything’s fine" act, but it was getting exhausting. Sarah had been the one who knew the real story—about the anemia, the baby, the complications—and she was the only one who knew how much of a mess you were in.
You’d asked her not to tell any of them. That didn’t make the pretending any easier. All they knew was that you were feeling a little under the weather, run-down, nothing too serious. You didn’t want to tell them. They’d never understand, not in the way you needed him to. Not when the issue was...everything.
You were curled up on the couch in their messy living room, a blanket thrown over your legs, you were trying to hide under it. You were just tired of pretending you weren’t falling apart inside. But you could do it for Sarah, she deserved to have a normal night, one that wasn’t filled with you sobbing in her arms.
John B was sitting on the other side of the couch, there was an awkward space between you two. Not in a bad way, just... you didn’t really know him. He and Rafe had a history, to say things were tense between them was an understatement. But you liked him for Sarah, he treated her right.
That was more than you could say for a lot of people in her life, so... here you were.
Kie was sitting cross-legged on the armchair, holding a bottle of something that definitely wasn’t soda, while JJ sprawled across the floor by her feet. John B had his arm slung casually around Sarah, who was perched on the couch between you and him, her body half-turned toward you as if she were ready to intervene at a moment’s notice.
Always watching, always waiting.
JJ tossed a pretzel at Kiara, which she caught without looking up.
“So, tomorrow’s the big day,” he announced, grinning like a kid.
Kie rolled her eyes. “It’s not that big of a deal.”
“To you,” he shot back, pointing dramatically. “To me? Monumental. Legendary. Historic.”
Sarah groaned. “He’s talking about the party,” she explained, bracing for your reaction.
“What party?” you asked, already regretting the question.
“Just a little thing at Poguelandia,” John B said casually, brushing popcorn crumbs off his jeans. “Bonfire, some drinks, a couple of people. Nothing crazy, it's promotional."
“A couple of people? Dude, half the island’s gonna show up.”
John B shrugged, the picture of nonchalance. “It’s not a party unless it’s packed.”
“Exactly,” JJ said, leaning back on his elbows. “You have to come. It’s gonna be sick.”
You made a face, “I’m not really in a party mood.”
Sarah turned to you immediately, her eyes wide and full of meaning. The look. The one that said, C’mon, you need this.
“It’d be fun,” she pouted, “You could use a little fun right now.”
“I’m fine,” you said, avoiding her eyes and focusing on the popcorn in your lap. “I don’t need a party to cheer me up.”
Kiara raised an eyebrow. “Oh, come on. Just a chill day. You won’t even have to talk to anyone if you don’t want to.”
“And there’ll be drinks,” JJ added with a wink. “Or, you know, drink-adjacent options for those who can’t hang.”
For a second, your stomach almost dropped. Did he know? The way he said it—so casually—it almost felt like he did. It felt like he was teasing you in that obnoxious JJ way, but with an awareness that made you want to crawl out of your skin. But then logic kicked in.
They didn’t know. Not about the baby, at least. As far as they were concerned, you were just sick. Which, to be fair, you were. “Drink-adjacent” made sense because no one expected you to down shots when you could barely keep yourself upright most days.
Still, the comment made you uneasy, and your fingers tightened around the edge of the blanket.
Right,” you grimaced, your voice stiff. “Because nothing says ‘party’ like seltzer water.”
“That’s the spirit. We’ll even get the fancy kind, with lime or whatever. Really roll out the red carpet for you.”
Kie snorted. “You’re so generous, JJ.”
“Hey, I’m a man of the people baby,” he said, throwing his hands up like he was defending his honor.
Sarah nudged you again, harder this time, and you glanced at her out of the corner of your eye. She was giving you that look again, the one that screamed, Just say yes already.
“You’re not gonna let this go, are you?” you muttered, aiming for annoyed but landing somewhere closer to resigned.
“Nope,” she said brightly.
You sighed, sinking deeper into the couch. “Fine. I’ll think about it.”
JJ whooped, pumping a fist in the air like you’d just agreed to crown him king of the Pogues. “That’s what I’m talking about!”
“I didn’t say I was going. I said I’d think about it.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, waving you off like the details didn’t matter. “Thinking about it is basically saying yes.” JJ grinned at you, “But y’know,” he started, pointing a lazy finger in your direction, “it’s still kind of insane that you’re here. The literal kook of the kooks.”
You rolled your eyes, “And yet, here I am. Stuck with the pogues. Truly the highlight of my life.”
“Admit it. You love it. The... gritty charm.”
“Right,” you casted a skeptical glance around the room. “Because who wouldn’t love the charm of beer-stained furniture, half-empty snack bags, and... whatever that smell is?” You wrinkled your nose for effect, though you weren’t entirely joking.
The place was a dump.
John B chuckled from his corner of the couch, tossing a piece of popcorn at JJ. “She’s not wrong, man. This place barely qualifies as livable.”
“Livable?” JJ looked mock-offended, clutching his chest like he’d been mortally wounded. “This is prime real estate! You kooks don’t appreciate the artistic chaos.”
Kiara looked up from her phone. “It’s chaos, all right.”
Sarah leaned toward you, her voice low and teasing. “Don’t let him get to you. He’s just salty you make this place look like a dump by comparison.”
“Please,” JJ cut in, leaning forward, “This place looks like a dump because it is a dump. But it’s our dump.” He grinned, flicking his eyes back to you. “And now, apparently, it’s yours too. Welcome to the family, kook princess.”
You snorted, unable to help yourself. “Don’t get used to it.”
JJ clutched his chest again. “Ouch. Cold. But fair.”
The truth was, you did think the place was terrible.
Objectively, it was, you already knew that since last week.
The furniture didn’t match, the walls had stains you didn’t want to think too hard about, and everything felt sticky, even if it wasn’t. You were used to perfect beachfront properties with matching decor and staff that catered to your every whim. This? It was a wreck.
But at the same time, there was something about it that felt... alive. The chaos wasn’t just chaos—it was theirs. The mismatched furniture, the random surfboards propped in corners, the lived-in feel of a space that wasn’t trying to impress anyone. It made you hate it and love it all at once.
Your eyes flicked to Kie, who rolled hers at JJ but couldn’t hide her smile. He said something under his breath, too quiet for anyone else to hear, and she shoved his shoulder in mock annoyance. He grinned at her, that lazy grin he probably didn’t even realize he saved just for her. And she was trying so hard to look unimpressed, but her expression softened anyway, she couldn’t help herself.
Sarah caught you looking and smirked, nudging you. “Cute, right?” she whispered.
You gave her a half-smile, more honest this time. “Annoyingly so.”
JJ, oblivious to the exchange, flopped onto his back. “I don’t know why you all keep insulting my hospitality. If this was a five-star resort, it wouldn’t have vibes.”
“Yeah, vibes of a condemned building,” you grumbled back, unable to help yourself.
And when everyone laughed—Kie’s chuckle, Sarah’s giggle, JJ’s full-blown cackle—you hated yourself a little for loving it here, even as you pretended you didn’t.
Would things have been different if you hadn’t been born a Kook?
The thought hit you out of nowhere, unwelcomely, like it always did when you let your guard down. Would your family still be alive if you weren’t wrapped up in the trappings of wealth and privilege? If your dad hadn’t been able to afford that stupid private jet, if your mom hadn’t insisted on using it for every family trip, if your sister hadn’t tagged along on that one last flight...
It was a cruel, useless spiral of what-ifs that never went anywhere but still had you choking on guilt every time. Because it wasn’t just the money. It was the whole stupid kook world—the private schools, the country clubs, the constant need to show off and be better than everyone else. That world had shaped your family, pushed them into the roles they played, and it had been the death of them, literally and figuratively.
You wondered, not for the first time, if they would’ve been safer if you’d all been normal. Just some middle-class family driving to vacations in an old station wagon, complaining about rest-stop food and fighting over the radio. Maybe your parents wouldn’t have been so busy, and maybe your sister wouldn’t have been on that flight at all.
Your throat burned, and you blinked hard, trying to push the thoughts back where they belonged. The pogues were still talking, still laughing, completely unaware of the war blazing in your head.
“You’re lucky to be here, kook princess. You’re getting the real-life experience.”
You forced a weak smile, still staring at the popcorn. “The real-life experience.”
If this was real life, you thought bitterly, maybe you wouldn’t have so much to regret. Maybe you’d still have them. Maybe you’d even know who you were outside of the perfect, shiny bubble you’d grown up in—one that had popped so catastrophically you were still finding pieces of it in your skin.
Maybe if you hadn’t been born a kook, you wouldn’t have met Rafe when you were kids. You wouldn’t have been his best friend, wouldn’t have spent your whole childhood trailing after him, clinging to every crooked smile and reckless dare like they were proof that you mattered.
You wouldn’t have fallen in love with him at sixteen, back when you thought love meant him driving you to the beach in his dad’s truck, his hand on your thigh, telling you you were the only person who really got him. You wouldn’t have had your heart broken by him now, when he was with someone else. Your hand drifted to your stomach, a subconscious gesture that made your breath hitch. You wouldn’t be pregnant with his kid, either. Or sick.
You’d built this whole life around him without even realizing it.
Would it have been better? Not having Rafe at all?
You wanted to say yes. You wanted to imagine a version of your life where he’d never existed, where you didn’t have his name carved into your heart. Where you weren’t here now, still loving him. Where you weren’t pregnant and alone while he was somewhere else.
The truth—the awful, undeniable truth—was that you couldn’t imagine your life without him.
For all the ways he’d broken you, Rafe had been the one to hold you together when everything else fell apart, the one who pulled you out of bed when you couldn’t find the strength, who made you laugh when you thought you’d forgotten how.
If it weren’t for him, you didn’t know if you’d even be here now.
And you wouldn’t trade the sound of his laugh for anything in the world. Not the condescending biting one he used to throw around when he was being an ass, but the real one, the one that came out when he was caught off guard.
Even if you hated him, you couldn’t regret him. Not all the way. Not enough to wish he’d never been in your life. Despite all of it—he’d been there when no one else was, that was enough to keep him tethered to your heart, even now, when you wished it wasn’t.
“Earth to princess,” Kiara's voice cut through your thoughts, bringing you back to the dimly lit room and the blanket over your legs. She waved a hand in front of your face, “You still with us, or are you planning your escape route?”
You forced a smile, “Just trying to figure out how I got roped into your weird little cult, that’s all.”
They laughed, the sound was bright enough to pull you out of your head, just for a moment. It wasn’t the same as Rafe’s laugh, but it was something. Right now, you’d take it.

When you woke up, the house was already buzzing.
The pogues were up and at it, setting up for whatever party they had planned. You’d slept in, which wasn’t like you, but Sarah had all but forced you to stay in bed last night, insisting you needed the rest. She’d even made John B sleep on the couch so you could take his spot in their bed. You felt bad—guilty, really—you tried to tell her it wasn’t necessary, but Sarah was Sarah. Stubborn, loyal, annoyingly sweet Sarah.
The morning, however, had been nothing short of a disaster.
You barely made it out of bed before you were sprinting to the bathroom, dry-heaving over the toilet like you’d had one too many shots at a party the night before. Except, this wasn’t from partying—it was the fucking morning sickness. Thank God everyone else was outside setting up, or you’d have to deal with their questions.
You stayed in the bathroom longer than you wanted to, rinsing your mouth out and glaring at yourself in the mirror like your reflection was to blame for your misery. Your hair was a mess, your skin looked pale. You looked like shit.
To make matters worse, the house was painfully loud. Every noise from outside echoed through the shitty walls, stabbing into your head. The party. Where everyone would be drinking, laughing, and probably noticing that you were the only one sitting in a corner looking like you’d been hit by a train.
Groaning, you wiped your face with a cold washcloth. “Fuck,” you complained under your breath, glaring at yourself in the mirror.
You grabbed the bottle of pre-natal vitamins from your bag, the ones that looked like horse pills, and twisted off the cap. The nausea was already crawling up your throat again, and the last thing you wanted was to shove a giant vitamin down your stomach.
You didn't have much of a choice. You needed it, not just for the baby, but because of the anemia. If you didn't stay on top of it, you’d end up worse than you felt now—and that was already a nightmare you were trying to avoid.
You stared at the pill in your hand, mentally preparing yourself.
“Just swallow it,” you muttered, willing yourself into doing it. It took a moment, but you finally threw it back. You chased it down with a sip of water, grimacing as it settled in your stomach. It felt like you were choking on a rock, and you had to fight to keep your stomach from revolting all over again.
For a while, you sat back on the edge of the bed, elbows on your knees, head in your hands, hating the lingering taste of bile in your mouth even after your oral hygiene.
You let yourself fall back, staring at the ceiling fan as it spun lazily, pressing a hand to your stomach, not out of affection but frustration.
"I’m trying here, okay? Can you at least meet me halfway?" you muttered.
The distant noises and commotion from outside seeped in through the window, but it only made you feel more isolated. You reached for your phone, scrolling aimlessly through notifications you didn’t care about. A text from Sarah popped up: "Take your time. We’ve got it covered out here.”
You tossed the phone aside, rubbing your temples. You wished you could just stay here all day, curled up under the covers, but the thought of Sarah’s concerned face, of the inevitable questions and glances, made that impossible. You were tired of being a problem, tired of being the fragile one everyone tiptoed around.
You sighed, knowing there was no way you’d make it through this day without looking like total crap. You grabbed a hoodie from the back of the door, tossed your hair up into a bun, and made your way downstairs.
You found her in the kitchen, already pouring drinks and bossing JJ and Pope around. She spotted you lingering in the doorway and waved you off before you could say anything.
“Nope,” she shook her head, clicking her tongue at you like you were a misbehaving child. “Don’t even think about it. Go sit down. Rest. It’s gonna be a long day, and you need it, okay?”
You blinked at her, then at the mess around the house. Decorations were half-done outside, the tables and counter were an explosion of snacks, and JJ was currently trying to balance three folding chairs in one hand like a party trick. Kie was arguing with John B about where the cooler should go, and Sarah was somehow keeping it all from falling apart.
You leaned against the doorway, hand still on your stomach, glaring at her as she poured some sort of drink into a plastic cup. “You could’ve woken me up. I’m not completely useless.”
Sarah spun around, eyebrows raised and gave you a look that could kill. “Uh, no, you don’t get to complain. I let you sleep in because you need it, and I’m not about to let you overdo it, okay.”
You sighed, leaning against the counter. “I feel like a freeloader right now.”
“You’re not a freeloader,” Sarah said, rolling her eyes. “You’re my sister. And you’ve been through... a lot. So just chill. We’ve got this.”
“I’m not an invalid.”
She raised an eyebrow. “You’re pregnant, which means you’re officially on my do-not-let-her-do-anything list. Now go sit your ass down before I make one of them carry you.”
“Don’t drag them into this,” you muttered, but you were already giving up the fight. Sarah was like a pit bull when she made up her mind, and there was no arguing with her. You nodded reluctantly, letting her win this one. It wasn’t like you had the energy to argue anyway.
Outside, the rest of the group was scattered around the yard, setting up for what promised to be a classic pogues-style party. Pope and Cleo had arrived at some point; Pope was trying to figure out how to hang a string of lights between two trees, while Cleo stood nearby, holding a roll of tape and offering sarcastic commentary.
“Maybe if you’d let me do it, we wouldn’t be out here for an hour,” Cleo teased, tilting her head.
“And maybe if you didn’t talk so much, I could concentrate, baby.”
JJ was dragging a cooler across the sand, muttering something about how “beer doesn’t carry itself,” while Kie followed behind him, laughing and tossing bags of chips into a pile on the picnic table.
Sarah joined you on the porch, a can of sparkling water in her hand. “See? We’ve got it under control,” she said, gesturing to the scene in front of you. “Now, sit down, relax, and enjoy the show.”
You raised an eyebrow. “What about you? Aren’t you gonna take your own advice?”
Sarah grinned, “I’ll relax when the party starts. For now, my mission is to make sure you don’t lift a finger.”
“You’re impossible.”
“Yeah, but you love me,” she replied, linking her arm through yours.
And she wasn’t wrong. As much as you hated being doted on, it was hard not to appreciate everything she’d been doing for you.
Cleo spotted you from across the yard and waved, her smile wide and warm. “Yo! You gonna come hang out or just stand there looking pretty?”
“Both,” JJ called out, smirking as he cracked open a beer.
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help smiling.
“I said pretty, rude boy. It doesn’t include your ass.”
“Cleo, you wound me. I thought we had something special.”
“Yeah, it’s called my patience, and it’s runnin’ real thin,” Cleo yelled back, smirking as she handed Pope the tape. “Here. Fix your mess before the whole damn tree comes down.”
Pope muttered something under his breath but took the tape anyway, climbing back onto the ladder. “You could’ve just done this yourself if you were so sure about it.”
“And rob you of the chance to prove me wrong? Never,” Cleo quipped, crossing her arms as she stepped back to watch him work.
The two of you headed toward the table where Kie was busy arranging snacks, her brows furrowed in concentration.
“How are we still out of guac?” She muttered, her tone more annoyed than concerned. “I swear I made enough to feed an army.”
“Your boyfriend happened,” Sarah said without missing a beat. “I saw him sneak off with a bowl earlier.”
Kie groaned, hands on her hips as she glared at the blonde boy, who was now lounging in a chair with his feet propped up on the cooler.
“You are a menace to society.”
“And yet, here I am, invited to all your parties,” JJ replied, raising his beer in a mock toast.
Kie grabbed a chip and threw it at him, hitting him square in the forehead, "It's your party too, dick."
“Guys,” Pope called out from the ladder, sounding exasperated. “Can someone just hold the other end of the lights? I’m not trying to die out here.”
“I got it,” Cleo said, strolling over and grabbing the string of lights. “Don’t let go of that tape, or you’re on your own.”
Cleo had finally climbed up the ladder with Pope, muttering something sarcastic, only for him to pull her into a quick kiss that made her giggle.
It wasn’t long before everyone started getting ready for the party. It was only around 3:30, but you could tell everyone was in full-on prep mode, running around and grabbing last-minute things. You figured you should probably start getting ready, too, if you wanted to make it to the party without looking completely out of it.
You escaped, fully aware that Sarah would check on you soon if you didn’t start moving. Sitting on the bed, you scrolled aimlessly for outfit inspiration, but everything felt wrong—too tight, too flashy, or too… not you. You hadn’t exactly packed for a pogues-style party, and the thought of showing up in your worn-out jeans or one of John B’s oversized T-shirts made you shudder.
Sarah’s closet caught your eye, the door slightly ajar. A beacon of decent fashion that you knew was still hiding in there, despite her efforts to shed the kook label. She still had a few relics from her old life, buried beneath tie-dye and frayed denim.
You’d teased her about it last week, calling her out for keeping a little piece of her former self tucked away. She’d rolled her eyes and said, “A girl’s gotta have options.”
Today, you needed those options.
You bypassed the flashier options in favor of something understated. Nestled between a linen sundress and a denim jacket was exactly what you needed: a simple, fitted black dress. It was sleeveless, with a subtle scoop neckline and a hemline that hit just above the knee. The fabric was soft and unassuming but hugged your frame just right, giving it a quietly polished look.
“This one,” you murmured, pulling it off the hanger. It wasn’t loud or overly attention-grabbing—more like the kind of dress that someone who didn’t need to try would wear.
Elegant, minimal, perfect.
Sliding it on, you immediately felt the difference. It didn’t scream for attention, but it made you feel put together, which was exactly what you needed right now. You ran your hands over the fabric, smoothing out any wrinkles before stepping into a pair of nude sandals you’d found shoved in the back of the closet. Flat, simple, and mercifully easy to walk in.
Sarah popped her head in just as you were brushing your hair out into soft waves. “There she is,” she said, giving you a once-over. “God forbid you wear something ugly, huh?”
You tugged lightly at the hem of the dress. “I’m doing this closet justice.”
“You are. I forgot I even had that dress or I would've given it away."
“Thank God for that,” you replied, slipping on a simple gold bracelet you found on her dresser. “The pogues' style is great and all, but I have my limits.” You hadn’t even touched your makeup yet. With a sigh, you glanced at Sarah. “I’ll be ready in five.”
She raised an eyebrow but didn’t tease, already heading downstairs to check on the others. You glanced at the clock—it was almost party time, but you needed a few more minutes to look presentable.
You grabbed her makeup bag from her vanity and settled in front of the mirror. Starting with a light layer of foundation, you evened out your complexion. You weren’t trying to hide anything; you just needed to look less like you’d just rolled out of bed.
For the first time in what felt like years, you weren’t thinking about the baby. You weren’t worrying about keeping your secret from Rafe or everyone else around you. You weren’t wrapped up in the anxiety of it all. Instead, you were just doing something that felt simple, that belonged to your age—putting on makeup, getting ready for a party, like a normal twenty-year-old something woman.
This was the most normal you’d felt in months.
You’d been so consumed with everything pregnancy-related, trying to stay on top of your emotions while dealing with the fear of being found out. It was exhausting. You had forgotten what it felt like to be carefree, to be you—not just someone wrapped up in worry. There was something so familiar about it—the way the brush swept across your skin, the way you mixed your bronzer just right to highlight your cheekbones. It felt like the old you. Who knew this shit could be so therapeutic?
A soft sigh slipped from your lips. You needed more moments like this. Simple, easy moments where you didn’t have to think about the rest of the world. Just doing your makeup. Just getting dressed. Just being you—even for a little while.
When you made your way downstairs again, the mess had somehow multiplied. The house was alive with movement, and the sound of JJ yelling something unintelligible from the backyard. People had already started arriving—pogues, and a handful of kooks who never missed a good party. You spotted Sarah in the kitchen, pouring drinks into a massive punch bowl, looking entirely in her element.
You sidled up to Kie, who was setting out plates of food with military precision. “Hey, you need any help with this? Or anything, really?”
Kie glanced up, her brows shooting toward her hairline as she appraised you. “Is this the control freak in you?”
“Funny,” you deadpanned, leaning on the counter. “Seriously, though. Put me to work.”
She snorted, grabbing a handful of napkins and shoving them into your hands. “Fine. You can help set these out on the tables outside. But if Sarah catches you, this conversation didn’t happen.”
“Deal.”
The yard looked like something out of a fever dream. String lights were half-strung between trees, chairs and tables were scattered everywhere. A cooler sat precariously close to tipping over, its contents already being raided by JJ, who was popping open another beer while Cleo scolded him for being “absolutely useless.”
You moved through the yard, laying out napkins and straightening plates, feeling some of the earlier tension and sleep deprivation ease from your back. It felt good to do something normal, something productive. By the time you circled back to the porch, Sarah was waiting for you, hands on her hips and a knowing look in her eyes. “I thought I told you to sit down.”
You shrugged, trying to play it off. “Kie needed help. I’m fine.”
Sarah didn’t look convinced, but she didn’t push it. Instead, she handed you a cup of water and gestured toward one of the chairs on the porch. “At least pretend you’re taking it easy, okay? You’re gonna need your energy when this party really gets going.”
You rolled your eyes but took the seat, sipping the drink as you watched the guests buzz around the yard.
Cleo and Kiara were already in tears laughing as JJ dramatically narrated Pope’s “world record attempt,” complete with fake announcer voice. By the time Pope finally flipped upside down with his help, everyone was cheering loud enough to drown out the music blasting from the backyard speakers.
JJ was yelling something about “legendary keg stand form” as Pope balanced upside down on the keg, supported by Cleo and a very unenthused Kie.
It was hilarious watching his usually composed demeanor dissolve into giggles as beer dripped down his face, but even funnier was JJ hyping him up like this was the Olympics. “That’s my boy! New record! Somebody time this shit!”
You laughed, for once letting yourself enjoy the day. It felt good to be surrounded by fun, to not be caught up in your head for a change. Maybe Sarah had been right—you needed this.
For once, you were wiping tears of laughter from your eyes. It felt so good to do it too, to feel like you were part of something instead of just watching from the sidelines. You could breathe again.
Pope wobbled, barely lasting ten seconds before collapsing onto the grass. JJ threw his arms up like they’d just won the championship, shouting, “A legend was born tonight!”
You felt all the stress and heaviness you’d been dragging and moping around had finally been put on pause.
Then, subtle at first, a tickle at the back of your neck, a whisper of unease. You moved around on the railing, trying to shake it off. You glanced around, casually at first, scanning the crowd. Everyone seemed caught up in something—JJ was on his third keg stand attempt, Kie and Cleo were busy arguing over the playlist, and the rest of the partygoers were either dancing or clustered around the fire pit.
Nothing out of the ordinary. You tried to ignore it at first, brushing it off as your brain’s way of being a buzzkill. It had a way of doing that—ruining a perfectly good night with its tendency to overanalyze everything.  You were having a good time, and you weren’t about to let paranoia ruin it.
But then you spotted her, Sofia.
She was standing near the back door, lit by the string lights strung across the porch, holding a beer cup. And she was staring at you.
Not just a quick glance, not the way someone looks when they’re zoning out. No. This was…staring. Your stomach twisted. This couldn’t be about you, she was just drunk and in her feelings or whatever. But there was something about the way she looked—sad, almost heartbroken—that made you want to bolt home.
You turned away, feeling like you couldn’t breathe, the night wasn’t as fun anymore. Maybe she wasn’t even looking at you. Except, you couldn’t shake it. You drained the rest of your water and headed inside to refill it, telling yourself you needed a second to breathe.
But of course, the second you stepped into the kitchen, Sofia was there.
She was crying—full-on crying—her mascara smudged and her cheeks streaked with tears. She was drunk, that much was obvious, so drunk she had to grab the counter.
Jesus.
 “Uh…? Are you okay?”
You weren’t Sofia’s biggest fan.
She had the love of your life—the guy you’d once thought was it for you—and that alone made it impossible to feel anything but complicated about her. Add to that the fact that she was a pogue, and… you’d never been friends.
The last thing you wanted to do tonight was play therapist, especially not for her. But she was still a girl, drunk and crying in the middle of a party, and no matter how much history—or lack thereof—existed between you, there was no way you were going to leave her like that.
You sighed, setting your cup down on the counter, “Do you need to sit down? Water?”
She only sobbed harder. Okay, not helping, noted.
“Hey, sit down,” you murmured, guiding her to the bench by the window. She didn’t resist, collapsing onto it.
Her eyes glassy and red. She looked up at you like you were the last person she wanted to see, but also, somehow, the only one she needed.
“I’m sorry,” she choked out, her voice cracked. “I shouldn’t—this wasn’t supposed to happen.”
You crouched down in front of her, arms resting on your knees as you tried to figure out what the hell she meant. “What wasn’t supposed to happen? Did someone do something to you?”
“No,” she said quickly, shaking her head hard enough to make her curls bounce. “No, it’s not like that. It’s just… it’s Rafe. He—” Her voice broke, and she covered her face with her hands.
The second she said his name—Rafe—you already knew.
You didn’t know the details, didn’t need them, but you knew it was going to hurt like a bitch. That name always did.
Sofia’s voice cracked again, her words coming out between hiccuping breaths and slurred apologies, but you’d already braced yourself for whatever you were about to hear.
And yet, when she finally said it—he dumped me—it still felt like someone had thrown a bucket of water in your face.
What the fuck were you supposed to say to that?
"I’m not sure what you want me to do with this."
She flinched, her glassy eyes darting up to meet yours, but she didn’t say anything, just sniffled and stared at you like you had all the answers. You didn’t. Not for her.
"You’re upset, I get that," you continued, "But coming to me about Rafe? Really? What did you think was going to happen here?"
Her lip trembled, you thought she might start wailing again. "I—I didn’t plan this, okay? I just… I didn’t know who else to—"
On one hand, you felt bad for her.
How could you not? She was drunk, sobbing, in a way that felt painfully familiar. But on the other hand… what the fuck did she expect? She’d dated Rafe—your Rafe—knowing you were a six-year-long shadow she could never step out of.
She was with him knowing now she wanted you to what? Comfort her? Be her shoulder to cry on?
This wasn’t the time to be petty or mean, not when she was looking at you like you were the only person who could possibly understand.
“H-he dumped me,” she repeated, her voice cracking. “said… he said he’s not over you. That he c-can’t give me what I d-deserve because… because his heart’s still with you.”
You pursed your lips, a tangled knot of guilt, and something dangerously close to vindication swimming in your head.
Of course, it felt good to hear it—of course it did. But that didn’t make it easier to watch another girl fall apart in front of you because of him. As pathetic as it was, you knew what it felt like to be that girl.
You bit the inside of your cheek, holding back the snarky comment sitting on your tongue. As much as this whole thing screamed bad decision after bad decision, she was still here, crying her eyes out, and you weren’t heartless. Not entirely, anyway.
“I knew,” she whispered, “I knew he wasn’t over you. From the beginning. I thought I c-could… I don’t know. Change his mind?” She let out a choked sob. “I’m sittin' h-here, drunk and crying to you, of all people, because I d-didn’t li-isten to my gut when it told me to walk away. I’m sorry,” she blubbered, wiping at her face with the sleeve of her shirt. “I shouldn’t be bothering you with this. You probably hate me.”
You didn’t answer right away because, yeah, she wasn’t entirely wrong. You didn’t like her, that was for damn sure. But hate? Hate took too much energy.
You didn’t know what to say to that. Couldn’t say what you really thought—that she should’ve walked away, that no one could ever fill a space someone else left behind. So instead, you sat down beside her.
“I know it doesn’t help,” you said finally, “but it’s not your fault. Rafe… he’s complicated. He doesn’t know what he wants half the time, and even when he does, he’s too scared to hold on to it.”
She looked at you through teary eyes. “He held on to you for years.”
“Yeah. And look how that turned out.”
"If this is how I feel now, I can’t even imagine what you went through."
You bit your lip. She honestly thought this was the time for some heartfelt apology? God, bless her heart—no, scratch that, bless her delusions. She was standing there, looking like a wet mess, telling you she couldn’t imagine how you felt? If only she knew.
You sighed, grabbing a towel from the counter and tossing it at her. "Here. Fix your face. You look like you’ve been crying in a frat basement."
She caught the towel, her cheeks burning as she dabbed at her ruined makeup. "I—thanks," Her voice shook as she continued her drunk ramble, "I didn’t know... I didn’t realize how bad it hurt you."
You took a breath, part of you wanting to snap at her, tell her it was too little, too late. You could’ve easily unleashed all the venom you’d kept inside for so long. But then, there was that little voice in your head—one that, surprisingly, wasn’t making fun of her. You couldn’t be that cruel, you weren’t heartless, no matter how complicated things had gotten.
Sofia, in this state—drunk, emotional—didn’t deserve that.
"You need to get your shit together, stop letting your entire world revolve around him.” You could see her flinch at that last part, but you weren’t done yet.
How ironic.
"You’re better than this. You don’t need a guy—especially Rafe—to make you feel whole. I learned something, and you’re going to learn it too. Life doesn’t revolve around some guy’s bullshit feelings. The sooner you realize that, the better off you’ll be, put yourself first, always. I’ve been there. You’ve got to live with the fact that he chose someone else. It doesn’t matter if you did everything right—sometimes, it’s just not enough."
There was a part of you that really felt sorry for her, the part that was human, not just jaded from all the pain. But there was also a voice in your head saying, You don’t owe her understanding.
Loving Rafe Cameron could feel like the best and worst thing at the same time.
You watch her carefully, making sure she’s soaking it in. "You deserve better than a guy who doesn't know how to value you. And don’t get me wrong, I get it. We’ve all been there. You can’t fix him."
Sofia was still sniffling and wiping her eyes, catching her breath, maybe even trying to piece things together. You felt like you had done something... good? Maybe not good, but at least you’d been the bigger person, showing her a bit of mercy.
Before she could answer, the door creaked, and you both turned to see your cousin standing there. Instantly, all alarm bells went off in your head, your eyes narrowing instantly, hands searching for something to throw at his face.
"Topper," you spit out, the name coming out like acid, "What the fuck are you doing here?"

*waiting eagerly and patiently for directors commentary* :)
Tumblr media
IT'S DONE RAHHHHHH ITS FINALLY DONE!!!!!!! I hope you all have enjoyed this chapter but I am REALLY excited to move on to what's next!!!!! i have been waiting literal years to get here,,,,
starting off with a few things: these frames are the same design from pt. 9, just damaged now. it's also uh. literally the same drawings KJSNFKJG listen sometimes I just have to make things easier on myself. also convenient crack through the hero of time's right eye >:-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay so the hero of time lore gives me a bit of a headache. let it be known that I understand in wolf's timeline, the events of OOT technically never happened. He knows the "hero of time" moniker bc he's met him, and i could've SWORN that name is mentioned if not somewhere in TP then in the TP manga. suspend ur disbelief for me lol
Anyway the idea is basically that post-game Wolf has done some digging to track down the person the Hero's Shade was when he was alive. I like to imagine he had some kind of bargain with Zelda where if he agreed to come to certain events she'd let him dig around in what survived of the archives after lol. I actually got stuck on this panel for a while trying to think of some other imagery that got this idea across without being so,,,idk on the nose? but i couldn't think of anything so i went with this HAHA. Even if Mask wasn't technically the "hero" in this timeline, I think he still ended up being a prominent figure, and some documentation of him would exist. An unfinished portrait, a text about the history of the royal guard, military records, correspondence between him and the castle, etc.
Tumblr media
ALSO ALSO. how do they know they're talking about the same hero of time? well, they don't. they're making an educated guess lol. obviously whoever made this statue of the Hero of Time couldn't make it look exactly like him, but I feel like Wolf has noticed enough similarities between depictions to be like. hey wait a second
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wake is trying to give a pep talk here like "come on guys, going on adventures is what we do!!" meanwhile Wolf and Loft are both like. yeah i guess leaving our loved ones behind with little notice to go on dangerous missions we may never return from IS what we do.....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
speaking of which Loft is maybe technically being a little bit of a hypocrite here but I really think he's just trying to make sure Wake doesn't make the same mistake he did lol. he's feeling guilty
one of many things I really regret abt this chapter is not having Tetra and Loft have a conversation similar to the one he and BOTW Zelda have. I feel like Tetra's experience of getting to grow up outside of the pressure of the royal family or her role and then basically having it forced on her during the events of WW would be very valuable for him to hear. I had so many things I was trying to juggle this chapter and somehow that just slipped through the cracks 😭 im sorry tetra.
AT LAST!!! ANNA FROM FROZEN!!! when all that was going down a few weeks ago i was like GUYS GUYS WAIT. HE'S ALMOST HERE. does this mean I have to get a new icon now
in case its not clear (and it probably isn't) he's in the ALTTP lost woods!
Tumblr media
okay so some of you may have noticed this, but up until now we've basically been following the thread of mainline games, starting where the timeline merged and working our way back to where it split in OOT. ALTTP is technically part of that, as the timeline where the Hero of Time dies. I have them all connected through the Lost Woods. The pitch for this was basically "wouldn't it be so fucking funny if Mage could've joined the story way earlier but didn't bc he was the only one with enough sense and also enough gall to just throw something through it." and then I couldn't NOT do that
Tumblr media
so on that note, this is the BOTW lost woods. If you look closely, you can see Wolf in the distance.
Tumblr media
I wanted to do something to establish him as a magic user! he could have just pulled these out of his bag but where's the fun in that. you might also notice that he's not wet because the rain isn't actually hitting him
Tumblr media
ALTTP ZELDA MY BELOVED!!!! that's all
Tumblr media
that's all i've got for now!!! bonus links turned 3 years old 3 days ago which is. wild. thank you all for sticking with this story for so long!!!

so oliver said it would be cool to check in on sperm donor baby and see if theres anything to explore there and i have NOT stopped rotating this inside my mind like a rotisserie chicken
just — i think it really could be SUCH a fun thing to revisit, later down the line, after buddie have gotten together and have settled a bit more. like it could be a really great catalyst for a "do we want more kids" kind of conversation.
like, they run into connor and kameron and sperm donor baby, who's really more like sperm donor toddler now, and it's maybe a little bit of an awkward encounter, bc none of the adults ever thought this would happen. like, after the baby was born they kind of went their separate ways, and idk maybe buck and connor still talk every so often, but its not regular and its never really anything deeper than a surface level catch up. theyre not exchanging christmas cards or anything. so, this is, really, the first time buck has seen the kid since he was born.
and it DOES kick up feelings in buck, but— not the expected ones that would come from seeing the kid that is half you but not yours. instead, it just stirs up that yearning that's always existed within buck, the yearning for a family, for a baby of his own. and — he's already got the first part. a family. he has that with eddie and christopher and he loves it, he loves their little family so so much. its absolutely perfect to him. but.... the idea of a baby.... he's always wanted one. he's always wanted to be a dad. to do the whole thing, from start to, well, forever. and he has christopher and he loves christopher but he also missed out on christopher's baby years, for obvious reasons. but he WANTS to experience that!! so bad!! and the idea of getting to do that with eddie.... it's a good one. its a good idea.
but its also a scary idea. because, buck knows eddie, he knows him better than he knows himself sometimes, but this? this isn't something he knows about eddie. he doesn't actually know if having more kids is something eddie wants. and he's maybe a little scared of what that kind of conversation could do to their relationship. because.... if theyre NOT on the same page about it.... well.
so he just. sits on it. doesn't bring it up. but of course eddie can tell that something is up, that buck has something on his mind. something he wants to talk about but isn't talking about yet. and so he does what he always does — he doesn't press right away. he gives buck the time and the space to decide when and how he wants to bring it up to eddie, whatever it is. except buck's fairly predictable in the sense that eddie can usually guess when buck will finally crack and start that long awaited conversation with him. but buck doesnt do that this time. he holds onto it still.
so eddie does press, and eventually buck does spill, and The Question comes up: would you ever want more kids?
and i think it would make for a deeeelicious storyline to have them NOT exactly on the same page, but also not not on the same page, yknow? just like — its not really something eddie has ever considered (aside from the baby scare with shannon all those years ago). it's just not something thats come up, like his other relationships never got to the baby conversation level and, frankly, he's had a whole lot of other Way More Pressing things to deal with to be sitting around contemplating a potential future second baby lol.
but then buck obviously HAS put some thought into it and it IS something he wants — has been for a long time, really — and so when The Question comes up and eddie's first response isn't an overwhelming yes, but is this hesitant, guarded well i don't know — buck's brain immediately starts to catastrophize. because an "i dont know" isn't a yes, and not a yes is a now a nonzero chance of no, which is a scary thought!! because this is buck's forever relationship!! and he doesnt want it to crumble apart over this!! and so he panics and hes trying to give eddie space to think about his answer, but that means that now instead of it being an open conversation, theyre both kind of stewing in their own thoughts and feelings and panics and fears about it and about what the other is thinking.
and for eddie — i think when he does think about it it's not something he is oppposed to, but he would initially approach it with a lot of hesitance and in a very guarded way bc his first instinct would be to think of all the ways hes fucked up with christopher and how terrified he would be to repeat that. of course, once he got past that intial reaction and like actually really thought about it (and went to bobby for advice about it!!) he would realize that these arent the same situations. he's older now, and he's more settled, and he's got a good partner in this — someone he feels supported by and someone he makes feel supported too! this isn't the same as it was fifteen, sixteen, seventeen years ago. the circumstances are completely different. and i think once he got over that mental block, of thinking it would be exactly like the first time, he would be — well, he'd still be a little terrified bc who ISNT a little terrified of having a baby, but he'd also be breathlessly exhilarated about it because. he loves being a dad!! he LOVES being a dad!!! and the idea of doing it again, WITH BUCK? theres nothing he wants more, actually!!!
meanwhile buck is trying to reconcile with what his answer would be to the question what do i want more? a baby or eddie? which one can i live without, which one can i not? and he would have to grapple with and ultimately make a decision to potentially give up one of those dreams. (he would, after deep thought and consideration, and ALSO a conversation with bobby, decide that he cannot live without eddie. he would choose eddie.)
and then when the two of them FINALLY come back together to have a conversation about this, buck would hit eddie with the i'm willing to give up this dream for you. because i love you, so much, and i love our family, and i want to grow it, i want more with you, i always want more with you, but if you dont then i'll be okay with that too, because our family is also perfect the way it is. and eddie is like buck and then he grabs both of buck's hands and he's like buck you dont have to make that choice and buck is like eddie yes i do, yes i do and buck is still obviously in distress bc like he made the decision and he isn't changing his mind he wouldn't but that doesn't mean letting go of the other dream wasnt hard. wasn't devastating too. so buck's like doing his best to not let that show but it's still bleeding through but eddie just takes his hands and his face is splitting into a smile bc he just cant help it he feels so joyous and so buoyant like hes walking on air and he tells buck you don't have to make that choice bc there isn't a choice. you can have both buck. and bucks like what... wait.... eddie are you saying.... and eddie nods and now BUCK is breaking out into a smile and hes got tears in his eyes and hes like eddie, oh my god we— we're going— and eddie finishes it for him, we're going to have a baby.
BUT JUST — the two of them having this conflict that isn't ACTUALLY a conflict at the core of it, because they ARE ultimately on the same page, but it takes some Work for them to get there and it makes them look at themselves and each other and their relationship in this whole new light, and it just proves how strong their partnership already is, how much love and also RESPECT there is between them, bc they dont just try to like convince the other to change their mind but they look INWARD and try to see if and how they can reframe their own points of view. and the whole thing just makes them even stronger together for it.
AND THEN THATS HOW WE GET GIRLDADS BUDDIE AND BIG BROTHER CHRISTOPHER <33

PAST TENSE, PRESENT LOVE 𐚁̸
Tumblr media
when his childhood best friend tries to remind you she means more than you.
genre : angst, romance
pairing : jungkook x reader
— requested by a reader
Jungkook's phone buzzed on the nightstand just as he was getting ready for bed. You were curled up beside him, half-asleep, your head resting on his chest. He reached over with one hand, glancing at the screen. An unknown number.
Frowning, he answered. "Hello?"
A familiar laugh echoed through the speaker, light and nostalgic. "Kookie… still using the same deep, sleepy voice when you pick up late at night, huh?"
Jungkook froze. He hadn’t heard that voice in years. His brows furrowed. "Lora?"
You stirred slightly at the change in his tone, but he rubbed your back absentmindedly to soothe you.
"Surprised?" lora teased. "It’s been so long."
"Yeah… it has." He sat up slightly, careful not to wake you completely. "How did you get my number?"
"Jin," she admitted. "Ran into him a while ago, and he mentioned you were still in the city."
Jungkook sighed, running a hand through his hair. "What’s up?"
"Well…" She drew out the word, as if nervous. "I’m actually moving there. Thought I’d reach out since, you know, you’re the only person I really know in the city. Maybe we could catch up?"
Jungkook hesitated. There was nothing wrong with meeting an old friend, but something about this felt… off. Still, he wasn’t the type to shut people out.
"Yeah, sure," he said carefully. "Let me know when you get here."
"Great!" she chirped. "I can’t wait to see you again, Kookie. Just like old times."
Jungkook forced a chuckle. "Yeah… see you soon, Lora."
As he hung up, Jungkook placed his phone back on the nightstand, but his fingers lingered on the device. He stared at it for a moment, lost in thought.
You shifted beside him, your voice laced with sleep. "Who was that?"
He glanced down at you, debating for a second. He could lie, say it was no one important. But that wasn’t who he was, and that wasn’t the kind of relationship he wanted with you.
So, he exhaled and brushed his fingers through your hair. "Lora. My childhood best friend."
Your brows knitted together, eyes barely open. "Lora?"
"Yeah… she’s moving here. She said she wants to catch up."
You didn’t say anything for a moment, just studying his face. Then, slowly, you sat up, blinking the sleep away. "Are you excited to see her?"
Jungkook frowned. He hadn’t even considered that. Lora had been a huge part of his past, but that was the thing—she was the past. And right now, all he could think about was how this conversation had already made you look a little uneasy.
He cupped your cheek, rubbing his thumb over your skin. "I don’t know," he admitted honestly. "I mean, it’s been years. People change."
You nodded slowly but didn’t say anything. He could see the thoughts running through your head, the way you bit the inside of your cheek like you were trying to keep something in.
"Talk to me," he whispered.
You hesitated before finally asking, "Was she… ever more than a friend?"
Jungkook blinked, surprised. "No. Never."
"But she wanted to be?"
He sighed. "Maybe at some point. But it never happened. I never saw her that way." He tilted your chin up, making sure you met his eyes. "And even if I did back then, it wouldn’t matter. Because I have you now."
Your lips pressed together, but you nodded. "Okay."
Still, Jungkook could feel it. That small thread of doubt creeping into your heart. And he hated it.
So, he pulled you closer, pressing his lips to your forehead. "You’re the only one who matters to me, okay? No one else."
You sighed against his chest, wrapping your arms around him. "Okay," you murmured again, but this time, your voice was softer, more certain.
But deep down, Jungkook knew Lora. And he had a sinking feeling that she wasn’t coming back just to ‘catch up.’ And soon, he’d be proven right.
-
Jungkook never mentioned her. Not once in the years you had been together.
But there she was, standing too close, laughing too hard, touching him like she still belonged.
You swallowed down the bitter taste in your throat as you watched them from across the room. Lora, had arrived in town unexpectedly, and Jungkook, being the kind-hearted man he was, welcomed her with open arms. But she wasn’t just here for nostalgia. She was here to remind you that she had known him first.
"You remember, don't you, Kookie?" Lora's voice dripped with familiarity, her eyes flickering toward you as if daring you to react. "That summer when we stayed up all night talking about our dreams? You swore you’d marry me if we were still single by thirty."
Jungkook chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck, oblivious to the way your heart clenched. "Yeah, I remember. We were kids."
Lora tilted her head, eyes twinkling with something unreadable. "Still... we had something special, didn't we?"
You turned away, unable to listen anymore. You knew Jungkook loved you. You knew he chose you. But hearing her reminisce about a past you weren’t part of, about a version of him you never knew felt like a knife twisting in your chest.
That night, you were quiet. Jungkook noticed.
"Baby, what's wrong?" he asked, reaching for you, but you stepped back.
"You never told me about her before yesterday," you murmured, voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook sighed, his hands falling to his sides. "She was just my best friend. That’s all."
"Then why does it feel like she wants to be more?"
His brows furrowed. "She’s just reminiscing,"
"She’s making me feel like I don’t belong in your life the way she did." Your voice cracked, and that was when his expression changed. Realization dawned in his eyes, followed by guilt.
Jungkook stepped closer, cupping your face. "Hey… don’t do that. You belong here. With me. There’s no one else."
"But she knows a part of you I never will."
He exhaled sharply, resting his forehead against yours. "And you know the me that she never will. The man I became, the man I love being, because of you."
Tears welled up in your eyes. "Then tell her to stop."
Jungkook pulled you into his arms, holding you so tightly it felt like he was trying to fuse you together. "I will," he whispered into your hair. "I’ll make sure she knows there’s no room for anyone else in my heart but you."
And the next time Lora tried to bring up the past, Jungkook simply laced his fingers with yours, pressed a lingering kiss to your temple, and smiled at you like you were his entire world. Because you were.
Lora noticed the shift immediately. The way Jungkook’s attention never wavered from you, the way his fingers tightened around yours as if anchoring you to him. She tried again, laughing softly as she nudged his arm.
"Come on, Kookie. You can’t tell me you don’t miss the old days, just a little?"
Jungkook didn’t even hesitate. "No, I don’t." His voice was firm, his gaze unwavering as he looked at you instead of her.
Lora blinked, taken aback. "Wow… you’ve really changed."
He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. "Yeah. Because I found the person I want to build my future with." He turned fully to you then, brushing his thumb over your knuckles. "And nothing from my past can compare to what I have now."
Your chest ached, but this time, it wasn’t from sadness. It was from the overwhelming warmth of his words, the certainty in his touch.
Lora’s lips parted as if she wanted to argue, but then she sighed, shoulders slumping. "I get it," she said softly. "I was hoping… I don’t know, that maybe we could go back to how things were. But I see now that we can’t."
Jungkook nodded, kindness in his expression but no regret. "I’ll always be grateful for our friendship, Lora. But my heart is already taken."
Lora forced a small smile, then excused herself. And just like that, the lingering shadows of Jungkook’s past faded into the background.
When it was just the two of you, he cupped your face, tilting your chin up so you had no choice but to meet his gaze. "Are you okay?" he murmured.
Tears welled up in your eyes, but this time, they were from relief. "I just… I was scared," you admitted. "That she was a part of you I could never touch."
Jungkook pressed his forehead to yours, his breath warm against your lips. "You touch parts of me no one ever has," he whispered. "My heart, my soul, everything that matters."
He pulled you close, kissed you, slow and deep, the ache inside you finally disappeared. Because the past didn’t matter. Not when the man in front of you had already chosen his future.
And his future is you.

Hello!
Thought this might be fun. Context: I was with my boyfriend this morning, we’ve been together for more than two years and circled around each other for an embarrassing amount of time in our teens, we met as competitors, Physics Olympiads. Now, we both have some very specific kind of almost opposite personalities. Quite literally night and day, and the fact is reflected on our clothing, I always dress in black/dark grey/burgundy, jeans and blazer or shirt, he tends to wear almost always light colours and shades of blue/khaki (I mockingly call him “blueberry porridge” at times), shirt and pullover or simple tees. We found out about the existence of Good Omens right after S2 was released, since in our department at Uni (Physics) our colleagues, probably also thanks to my customary round shades and partially dark red hair, started referring to the two of us -to me in particular- in a very peculiar manner you might have an idea of. We had to watch the series and read the book. We discovered our colleagues were far more right than it seemed (it’s positively creepy). It became our main source of entertainment. There have been plenty of such conversations, and fights came to an end exactly like this, but the scene that happened this morning was so spontaneous on his part that had me laugh particularly hard so here I am sharing it.
I came back from a small walk, threw my sunglasses on the lectern I have in my room and kicked off my shoes as I usually do. He glared at me as he usually does when I act like that (he’s the “untie your shoes one at a time, loosen the laces a bit and neatly put them near the bedroom door possibly on the same tile” kind of person). This time he added “You see, we couldn’t possibly have children, you’d teach them all the wrong things, you savage”. And I answered, sarcastically and without thinking too much about it “THEN you’ll teach them the good ones so we’ll cancel out and they’ll grow up normal”.
We silently stared at each other for a good 5 seconds. And then he just shouted “HARRY THE RABBIT” and energically waved a towel he was holding in my face.
My life has been a fucking storm till some time ago, and now it’s almost 8 months of it being like this every day. Seriously, thank you (also for the disastrous first kiss. We can relate, for surprisingly analogous reasons, but that’s a bit too personal to share online. What I’d like to say is, even with so many people not liking that part, we ultimately rebuilt our trust in each other thanks to it). Now I have my daily dose of “Get thee behind me foul fiend” every time we try to get through some door at the same time. And every time he says that he lets me get through it first, and I get to give him an annoyed “when-are-we-growing-up” look we both know is as phony as a three-dollar bill.
My heart has been warmed.

Hi! I bring you this final part! Thank you for your support, readings and love.🤎
N/A: I have pending orders and I hope to complete them as soon as possible. I will upload one of them this afternoon. Thanks for your support!!
PAPARAZZI
Hwang In-ho x reader
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3
Tumblr media
Summary: A private detective that Gi-hun had hired to investigate those games he participated in three years ago, is taken against her will without knowing that a certain man with power and money knew absolutely every detail about her.
Warning: Blood, violence, kidnapping and some romance, I was listening to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance while writing this, sorry not sorry
Note: This would be the last part, if were to resume it I would do so when the third season comes out, thank you for your love!
The plan to escape through the ventilation ducts would be carried out that night, after playing the third game.
"Players, the third game is about to begin, everyone is asked to wake up and prepare" the female robotic voice spoke from the speaker.
The girl smiled as she saw that the piece of metal had in his hands had finally taken the shape that would be quite useful to her.
—I did it... —Her murmur with a radiant smile.
—¿You did what? —001 asked, approaching her with curiosity, as if he hadn't heard anything of the conversation she had with 388 during the night.
—The key to get out of here —She said proudly, showing off the piece of metal.
In-ho put on a confused expression, but deep down he was more than fascinated and intrigued, as well as anxious for night to come and for her to execute the "escape."
—Trust me, we will get out of here.
He gave her a silent smile.
As they left the room to be taken to the next game, In-ho stayed behind to talk to one of the guards with the triangle symbol. —455 will try to escape tonight through the ventilation ducts, keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't, then she'll be taken out of the game, ¿understood?
—Yes sir —replied, giving a brief reference, then he left to catch up with the group.
The next game would be called "mingle" and it was for groups.
The game consisted of grouping up every time the robotic voice said the number of players that had to get together and take one of the small rooms that were scattered around the place, the platform would spin before this so you are probably a little dizzy.
—If the number is more than six, we'll take the other players —Gi-hun said.
—¿What if the number is less than six? —Dae-ho asked with some uncertainty.
—We're split up, but we mustn't lose our patience— Young-il said seriously. —You two try not to get away from us —added looking at Jun-hee and the girl, who both nodded.
When the platform began to spin and the children's song started to play, the tension in the atmosphere was present, once again the girl was afraid of dying so inevitably her hands trembled, In-ho noticed this and without thinking much he took one of her hands with his.
—Trust me, we'll get out of here —He repeated the same words she had told him, making her smile.
The first stop was ten, that was easy, they met up with another group of four with players 120, 007, 149 and 097
The second was four, In-ho never let go of the girl's hand. —You four go, we two will look for others —He stated confidently.
She felt pretty safe with him so she didn't refuse, once again it was easy to find another partner and get to a room on time.
The third was three participants per room, once again it was simple, the girl was Gi-hun and Young-il but when they were dividing she was knocked down by another player.
In-ho opened his eyes searching for her in the crowd as Gi-hun called out to her but seeing that the timer was about to end they had no choice but to run and carry player 149 who was standing alone in the middle of all the chaos.
Meanwhile, the girl was stunned, looking for someone to go with to save her life when suddenly someone arrived and practically pulled her by the arm with brute force straight into a room. When the timer came to an end, she saw both players.
—Thank you very much.
Player 333 nodded, taking deep breaths.
She would remember him number, he had practically saved her life and she would make sure to do the same once she managed to get out of there for help.
Coming out of the cubicles, the first thing In-ho did was look for her with his eyes and when he saw her coming towards them, a sigh of relief left his lips, a reaction he never thought would have in a long time.
It felt strange to feel the anguish of another person's life again, especially that of a girl he knew as well as the back of his hand but hadn't spent enough time with, it was as if she had gotten into his head and heart without him realizing it.
When least expected it, he was already hugging her.
—Sorry for letting go of your hand.
—I'm fine... —The girl sighed, gladly receiving the gesture —He saved me —She added turning to see 333 who was a short distance away, watching them in silence.
He didn't care who had done it, he was just grateful that she was still there, although his triangle team had orders not to kill her, it was impossible to deny the immense concern he felt.
Finally, teams of two had to be formed, the participants fought to survive and this time, In-ho made sure not to lose the girl at his side.
In-ho grabbed a man who was about to enter the empty cubicle and pushed him back, allowing her to pass through, but she froze when she saw another player there.
—Get out —Young-il demanded firmly, staring at the man.
But seeing that the player refused, he rushed towards him, the girl stayed at the door preventing anyone else from entering.
When the timer was coming to an end, the only sound of a 'crack' reached the young woman's ears, she turned around in fear, but when she saw Young-il alive sighed and dropped to the ground tiredly.
She didn't judge him, her knew that humans naturally attacked when felt in danger.
[...]
The third vote had concluded, the circles and crosses had been tied so the elections would be repeated the following day.
But she couldn't bear another day, these games changed people, she saw it in Young-il and her didn't want someone good to get his hands dirty like that again.
Or at least that was the image she had of the man.
She couldn't stop watching him intently as chatted with Gi-hun, he was a gentleman, kind and sociable man but seeing him in that cubicle killing a man by breaking his neck in one move to save them both made her heart beat like never before.
She was fascinated by riddles and had a hunch that this man was one that needed to be solved. She didn't know, but her intuition told that Young-il was a poker face.
But for now, her needed to execute his plan.
She got up from where was and walked to the bathroom, there were only a couple of hours left until nightfall and she didn't want to walk around that island in the dark.
—Oh no, she's going to do it —Dae-ho muttered nervously as he watched her walk away.
—¿What is she going to do? —Gi-hun asked.
—Will try to escape and go for help.
The group looked at her with concern as she entered the bathroom and the two guards continued to guard the entrance.
She walked over to the toilet, pulled down the lid and stood on it to reach where the vent was, using the deformed piece of metal to remove the screws.
A proud smile formed on her lips as she was able to remove the lid and push herself up with his feet to begin climbing through the duct. ¿Could this be a dream? Judging by the fresh air she perceived in his nose these ducts would lead her to an exit to the outside.
But before she could declare victory and move forward faster, she felt two hands grab her by the ankles and pull back, back to his nightmare.
—¡No! ¡Please no! —She screamed, digging her nails into the metal of the duct as if that would stop, but she only managed to hurt own fingers a little.
When the guard with the triangle mask had her in hin arms and held tightly, she hit him in the stomach with his elbow to free herself.
She ran to the bathroom door to get out of there but as soon as touched the handle she was shot in the leg causing to fall and scream in pain.
Her scream mixed with the gunshot caught the attention of the players outside, it caught In-ho's attention, they weren't supposed to shoot her.
Meanwhile inside the bathroom she was bleeding and crying in pain and fear, she believed that this was end but another guard entered the bathroom and stuck a needle in her neck forcing her to fall into the subconscious.
"Player 455, eliminated" said the robotic voice over the speaker, leaving her fellow players bewildered and sad.
Gi-hun stood up and walked towards the guard guarding the bathroom and shouted angrily, followed by In-ho.
—¿What did you do to her? She wasn't playing! ¡You killed her!
The triangle raised his gun and pointed it at him to get to back off.
—She tried to escape and that will not be tolerated.
—¡That's not fair! You're only eliminated if you lose one of these games —Young-il yelled at them, putting on a little drama show just enough for the guards to get him out of there too so could see the girl.
When the doors opened and more guards entered carrying a black box with a huge pink bow through the door In-ho paled, he had given a specific order, it was just to take her out of the games, not kill her.
—¡You killed her! —he shouted at them this time a little more excitedly as watched the triangles take the girl out of the bathroom and place her in the box to later close it —¡These weren't the rules! ¡I demand to see your leader!
The guard nodded and asked him to follow him, once out of sight of the other players In-ho glared at his worker waiting for an explanation.
—She's alive, just sedated, we thought this was the best way to get her out without raising suspicion.
The feeling he had a few moments ago was like torture but also a small flash in his dark heart, after so long he had not felt such a whirlwind of emotions since his wife.
[...]
In him golden room, in the middle of the bed, the girl rested, with a bandage on her leg and wearing more comfortable clothes, a white blouse and grey pants.
The front man walked through the door and sighed at the sight of her there, leaving the gun he had used against the guard who dared to shoot her disobeying his orders on the table by the entrance and walking cautiously towards her.
He knew was breaking the rules by taking her out of there but he couldn't let her die, she had made him feel so many things again in such a short time that it was terrifying to a certain extent.
With his hand he moved a couple of strands of hair away from her face.
The girl gently opened her eyes and seeing a masked stranger near her, she tensed up because was still a little dazed to react otherwise.
—Calm down —he said under the mask with the voice modifier —I won't hurt you, we already fixed your wound and you'll be fully conscious in a few hours.
—You... you are... the front man... —She said trying to clear her mind and focus his vision.
—¿How much do you know about me? —He asked curiously, sitting on the edge of the bed without stopping to observe her under the mask.
—I know as much about you as you know about me... —She smiled at him with a hint of arrogance —You sent your employees to follow me for a while... They're not as stealthy as you thought.
He smiled under the mask, he knew for sure that she was intelligent, she was extremely afraid of death but had strategies and a brain to know when being stalked.
—¿Do you want to take off your mask?... I want to know if right about something.
—¿About what?
—You’re Young-il —that took him by surprise —¿Or should I say In-ho? You’re a man of many riddles.
He took off the mask, not just physically, he was also going to let her enter his soul.
—¿Since when did you find out?
—Oh not as quickly as I would have liked, I figured it out now that you sat up in bed.
From him posture, carefree and passive, and the way he stroked her hair, she deduced that he was someone who had already had contact with her.
Moreover, she had read a long history about the front man, the man in front of her was more than just that, more than just a cold-blooded assassin and leader who controlled these games, he was now showing his more "Young-il" side.
—¿Like Sherlock Holmes? —In-ho asked, half amused and half curious.
—That's my job... —She sighed tiredly, closing her eyes again.
They both knew they had many things to talk about and clarify but now was not the time, she longed for some peace and rest and he had to return to the games or he would raise suspicions.
They had a pending conversation but first, In-ho had to put an end to all this and put everything back in its respective place, after all, the girl was no longer in the crossfire, with her safely in him room, it was time to act.
N/A: This is the last part! Maybe I'll pick it up again when the third season comes out, I wanted to do something like Joe and Love only without the killer and crazy stuff.

summary attending a birthday party with your ex as a couple after you broken up without telling anyone in your circle.
warning(s) breakups, angst, crying, and feelings for each other.
Tumblr media
Drew and you ended your relationship four weeks ago. Never thought your relationship with him would end so suddenly. You have been an absolute reck since. Both of you still love each other deeply.
Family and friends don’t know about the break up—they’d be devastated hearing the news. Just thinking about it gets you overwhelmed with emotion. Drew and you have had small conversations about it but can't pull through yet.
Tonight is Liliana’s second birthday, everyone in Drew’s family will be there celebrating at his younger sisters home. Drew and you were invited prior to the breakup—you’ll be attending as a "couple."
This is gonna hurt you both.
“Okay we act like a couple then we part our separate ways, yeah?” Drew says with a hint of sadness in his voice, enough for only you to hear.
Pulling the front string of your hair behind your ear, looking up at his tall frame, “ye-eah that’s fine.” Your voice started cracking.
The two of you walk up the driveway of the house walking hand in hand like you typically would when you were together. Suddenly, Drew’s hand gently placed itself on your lower back—thumb rubbing gentle circles.
The sensation of his touch on your skin sends millions of goosebumps down your spine; you feel comfortable in his embrace—you are home. When you enter through the back gate, your face lights up as you see his family.
"Oh my gosh, it's so glad to see you both here" Brooke, Drew's younger sister, smiles running over in your direction with a drink in her hand.
After your brief reunion, you moved to see Drew's other family members. Seeing them made you joyful and sad at the same time because you knew you wouldn't see them as much after this.
Liliana raced over to Drew, arms raised, hoping to be hoisted up. She giggled as he kissed her face. "Stop it, Uncle Drewy," she says, tilting her head back.
Watching the two interact is the cutest thing ever. Liliana looks over her shoulder, gasping, and reaching out to you—taking her in your arms, hugging her, and spinning her around.
"You look so beautiful today," you tell the two-year-old in your arms. She glances up at you, reaching for your necklace before wrapping her arms around your neck.
"You too auntie!"
Tumblr media
Drew and you stood near to each other during the party—kissing your cheeks, hugging you close, resting his hand on your thigh—all the things you used to do. You could feel each other's distress.
Your entire body was screaming. You and Drew were dating for over four years. This split is still fresh for both of you. You just wanted to stay close to him the entire time, and he felt the same way.
People asked you how your relationship was going and when Drew was gonna get down on one knee. Just typical questions that've been asked before. No one suspected anything off between you two.
Tumblr media
The drive back to your house didn't take long. Drew and you were making small talk about the party and seeing Liliana's face when she opened her gifts.
Drew parked the car and switched off the engine, but neither of you made a move to exit. The streetlights provided a soothing light inside the car, highlighting the stress on his face. He finally ended the silence.
"I hate this, you know," he continued, his voice tight. "Pretending like everything's fine when it's not."
You gulped hard, tears forming in the corners of your eyes. "Me, too. But what options do we have?"
He turned to face you, looking into your eyes. "We can try again. Maybe we just needed some time apart to think things through."
"I still love you," he said softly, his voice breaking.
Your heart tightened at his words, and you clutched his palm tightly. "I still love you, too. But love isn't always sufficient."
By this point, your voice had begun to crack. You just wanted to jump into his arms one final time and have him tell you everything would be fine.
The hush that ensued was deafening. You both understood the reality, even if it was difficult to accept. You slowly and reluctantly drew your hand away and sought for the door handle.
"Goodbye, Drew," you replied softly, exiting the car.
You headed towards your apartment, your vision hazy with tears. Just as you approached the door, you heard him yell your name. Turning around, you noticed the pain imprinted on his face, which mirrored your own.
"Goodbye," he murmured quietly.
He stared at you as you walked to your front door. He wanted he could walk in the house with you, but you never asked. Turning around and waved your final goodbye as he slowly drove away.
Tears stream down your cheeks as you close the door. You couldn't hold back the tears. You hoped everything had never happened in the first place and that everything would have been okay. However, not everything goes as planned.
All those memories you made together are flooding through your mind as you walk yourself to your bedroom.
One day you'll find your way back. One day.

words left unsaid
────୨ৎ────
a/n: wrote this to celebrate 100 followers !
────୨ৎ────
Laying down on Senku's bed, you stare up at the ceiling of his bedroom, munching on a stick of pocky, thinking to yourself before rolling over to look at Senku who was busy on his laptop.
"Go on a date with me." You exclaim loud enough for him to hear.
He's well aware of your romantic feelings towards him. You didn't feel any shame hiding them from him since you always thought these feelings were something precious because they were about him.
"Pass."
You sighed heavily at this, but his response was always the same since you two were children.
"I'll definitely get you to say yes to my question someday." You say pouting slightly.
Senku only shrugged his shoulders at this, but you were unaware of the way his cheeks flush pink slightly; the tip of his ears red as he stared ahead at the screen of his laptop.
"Not in a million years." He replies.
"Even if it takes a million years, I'll wait for as long as possible." You argue back at him, "because you're worth it, Senku." Rolling around a bit to get comfortable before giving up.
Senku turns to look back at you, only to see you smiling at him softly with that same gaze that held only the softest look reserved for him.
"..." His lips part slightly, not sure what to say before he lets out a quiet 'hmph' and turns back around. "...don't get your hopes up, idiot."
────୨ৎ────
He remembers the last conversation he had with you before you left Japan with Byakuya. There was a worldwide contest, the prize being a passenger of the International Spacs Station, going alongside Lillian Weinberg.
And you had won.
You won.
You.
Won.
Won.
...
you died 3700 years ago.
Senku knew that, of course, he heard your voice in the record Byakuya had made and left behind for him in Ishigami Village.
A tear or two were shed, but he moved forward because humanity still needed to be saved.
It wasn't until they reached Treasure Island, where the original island the 7 sole survivors lived—
and died.
He stared down at the record in his hands. He didn't know what he would hear, the context behind making a second record. Why did Byakuya make a second one.
Unsure, but he built another record player. There had to be a reason, right. The sound of fireworks was heard outside, and everyone else wanted to hear, but one look at the expression on Senku's face as he stared down at the record, it was clear that maybe he wanted to listen to this alone.
Gen and Kohaku stood a bit away from where Senku was listening to the record.
"...you think it's about the girl he's never mentioned." Kohaku says quietly to Gen, who lets out a quiet hum. "The message in the record."
"From the way they spoke of her, she must have been extremely close to Senku. It's just bad fate that she won her seat on that trip."
The two stood there for a bit as Gen gathered his thoughts, "Yuzuriha and Taiju spoke about their childhood friend who was a part of the survivors who once lived on this island."
He sits down, staring at the stars. "Even I know not to bring her up to Senku. It's clear that he's still not over her despite her passing away thousands of years ago. His father, too. In a sense, he's got no family left. All alone."
They say nothing else, Kohaku hadn't thought about it like that.
She couldn't imagine being alone, her family dead years ago, truly alone.
────୨ৎ────
The record player starts, and Senku stands before it.
"....there we go, it's a miracle this still works." Byakuya's voice is heard, and then Lillian's, "i reckon the old thing wouldn't hadn't have and we would have to make another one."
"....we'll let you talk in private, okay [Name]?" She says quietly.
It goes quiet before a faint voice is heard. ".....senku."
Senku flinches slightly, his fingers twitch as he places his hand next to the record player.
"....senku.." She calls out again in a hoarse voice. "...we never got to say goodbye....just a see you later...at the airport, remember?"
A cough is heard, [Name] speaks after a few seconds, "....I wished I hugged you tighter...if i had known..."
A sickening cough leaves her lips, and Senku could only hear it happening, gripping his fist as he struggled to hold back the tears that threatened to roll down his face.
".....space was everything you said it would be..." A tear rolls down his face as he now realizes that the record was meant to be [Name]'s last words.
"....I want to see you... even if it's just one last time...." her voice is getting more tired and raspy. He could hear it.
"....I can feel it...you know?"
More tears rolled down his face as he gripped the table, shoulders trembling.
"...don't," his voice cracks, "...don't say goodbye, you idiot." He doesn't care about the tears rolling down his face and onto the record player.
"...senku...." He's brought back upon hearing his name.
[Name] says in that sweet voice that gentle tone with such affection breaks his heart. To know that he wouldn't hear her call his name again or ask him out on a date that he always declined. "...as long as you're happy...my dearest wish in life will come true so....please."
"....[Name]." Senku calls out as he falls to his knees, shoulders trembling as he cries. Tears refuse to stop as he hugs the record player.
The anguish cry that leaves his throat as he holds onto the last piece he has of the girl he loved. He thought they had more time, he thought they had all the time in the world...he wanted to be the one to ask her out on date instead of her asking him.
"[Name]!"
He thought that he had enough time to confess his feelings.
".....you want to go on a date...senku?"
He breaks down even more.
The record went quiet before the sounds of footsteps are heard "[Name]? [Name]!?" Byakuya's voice is heard. "Stay with us, sweetheart." Lillian says.
Before the record ends, Senku's anguished cries only continued even more, "....she's gone, Lillian." Is heard before the room is filled with his cries.
"...yes...I should've told you yes earlier."

you always knew you and nanami kento loved each other in that way. since you were ten years old and playing with mud, to when you were twenty and yelling at each other through a parking lot because of a nasty argument about god knows what. since having an unspoken crush for each other in middle school, to not talking in highschool yet listening to the same artists hoping the other would share a song and start a conversation again. since running in the woods at sixteen playing hide and seek and smoking the first cigarettes together, to having different parters at nineteen. since finding out the love never ran out at twenty-two, to confessing it to each other in a whisper under the stars a few days later.
“i love you” he blurts out, quickly, watching away from your face and the can of beer you are holding. “i love you too.” you say, fondly, like you always do.
“no.” he says, moving his head towards you again. “i love you. in like- i wanna kiss you way. i wanna hold your hand way. i wanna have sex with you way.”
“oh”. your voice is barely audible, heat crawling up your neck. the night is warm and only a few centimeters are in the way of your pinkies brushing. for a second, he considers taking it back, but soon it’s too late. you are already looking his way, as if you’re looking for shapes in the freckles that start showing on his cheeks around this time of the year. “when did you figure it out?”
your question stings him a little bit, like a nail poking at his heart from the inside, because you sound so detached. he thinks he has ruined everything but it really is too late now anyways so he blurts out “a week ago, at shoko’s. you were wearing a sundress, and i thought i was having a heart attack because i could feel it beating in my head but it really was just you looking beautiful.”
you swallow hard, looking right into his eyes. “are you sure?”
your questions are making him feel weird, like the nails under his skin are just growing in number. do you hate him now? he shifts in his seat and eventually gets up, mumbling something about being rejected by you sooner than he expected.
the night isn’t warm anymore when you wrap your fingers around his wrist and force him to look back at you, still sitting on the rusty bench at this random park you never go to at night. your beer is long forgotten. “don’t leave.” you mumble, then looking up at him you ask again “are you sure this is when you realized you were in love with me?”
he looks lost. “i just told you-” but you cut him off by standing up fast, almost tripping on yourself, wanting to be on his eye level. your eyebrows furrow when you say “because i knew it long before that. i knew you were in love with me when i was ten, and you picked flowers for me when i was crying because i scraped my knee falling from the tree in your backyard. i knew you were in love with me when i was fifteen, and you refused to kiss me when we were playing spin the bottle because you said my first kiss was supposed to be special. i knew you loved me last year when gojo asked me out on a date when i had just been broken up with and you acted like he wounded you for a week, saying it was nothing and still not talking to us until i told you i had said no to his stupid date idea." you are moving closer now, one step away from his face and his freckles, and nanami looks speechless, as if words are not even forming in his brain.
you hold your hands out, gripping his firmly like you are praying together. he is used to your touch, but its burning him now, like you are made of fire. and you feel made of fire, with a newfound passion sizzling right at the top of your stomach. your speech is not over.
"i noticed everything, kento. i have seen you all this time. you know why?" you squeeze his hands, and he has never seen this light in your eyes. he reminds him of that time after graduation when you were telling him about your idea of moving away, and he had asked you to come with. he slowly shakes his head no. you smile. "because i love you too."
it comes in waves for him. the surprise, the happiness, the shock. his eyes widen while you keep on rumbling, even though you are whispering now. "i was in love with you all this time as well. i still am, and i probably always will be. i wanted you to be my first kiss that time when the bottle landed on you, and i wanted you to ask me out, not gojo. last week i was wearing that dress for you, kento. i do everything for you”.
suddenly your lips meet with his, like a strong invisible force pulled you towards each other. his hands find your hips and squeeze, as if he’s scared to let go. you almost giggle on his lips, thinking back of when in high school you used to brush his bangs away from his eyes just to be able to look at him better.
he whispers “i love you” again, and this time you say it back quickly, fondly, wholeheartedly. you always knew you and nanami kento loved each other in that way.

Bachira’s eyes were locked on you, unblinking. His gaze was so intense he was surprised that you didn’t feel it through the glass of your window. You were so trusting, but oh so naïve. Not thinking for a moment that your sweet, ditzy, neighbor had such a deep-seated obsession with you. Couldn’t imagine that nearly nightly he sat by his window, the same one that was directly across from yours, eyes locked on your frame. As you changed, danced around, scrolled through your phone, and especially late at night when you let your hands roam your body. To Bachira, in his twisted mind, this was all intentional. Because for what other reason would you, in clear view with your blinds open, let your fingers sink into your delicious cunt? To Bachira he took it as you simply teasing him. Aching for him to make the first move.
You had moved to this neighborhood nearly a year ago. And you would be lying if you said it had been an easy year. The past year had tested you to the extreme. Within only a month your long-term boyfriend went missing. You and Reo had been together for almost ten years, high school sweethearts. You didn’t know what you would do, he had been all you’ve ever known. After spending weeks worried sick, never stopping looking for him, his body had turned up in the middle of the woods. Murdered. You couldn’t imagine who could do such a thing. Bachira had happened to return to his home when you were just wrapping up talking to the police, offering you a kind smile and a warm hug.
Bachira.
You don’t know what you would have done without him this past year. He had been there for you all through your grief, comforting you every step along the way. Despite what anyone said, you were eternally grateful for the sweet man. You best friend, Karasu, hadn’t liked him. Claiming something about “the guy’s vibe being off” and that he “seemed happy with your boyfriend out of the picture”. You two had gotten into an argument that night, after telling Bachira about your squabble the next day you were certain he was right.
Karasu had never liked Reo, claiming you could do so much better. That he and his best friend Nagi’s relationship was weird. But, no, Bachira was right he was projecting. Projecting that Bachira was the one happy Re was out of the picture when it was really him. That didn’t mean that he deserved what happened to him, however. You spent too many nights lying awake relaying the last conversation you both had on repeat. Screaming back and forth before he stormed out. Sure he had been so nasty to Bachira, who all he wanted was to be there for you, but he didn’t deserve…
He didn’t deserve to die.
Enough time had passed since Reo’s passing that you had begun to consider moving on. After Reo, and now Karasu, your late boyfriend’s best friend had begun checking on you more frequently. You weren't sure how it happened, maybe because you were missing Reo and being with Nagi felt like there was still a piece of him left behind. The both of you seek comfort in each other, eventually escalating, blossoming into a bit of an arrangement. The both of you weren't dating by any means, more seeking a body to keep the bed (and your cunt) warm. And it was working, going so well. It was nice having Nagi around, a familiar face you had known for so many years. Not having to rely on Bachira so much.
It wasn’t that you didn’t enjoy the sweet man’s presence, but you were starting to feel guilt for leaning on him so heavily. Bachira had been there for you through both tragedies this past year, now being your only friend in the world with the recent developments in you and Nagi’s relationship. When you had moved here, it was a distance away from your family. Having moved here to be closer to Reo’s work. Karasu was a good enough friend that he had found an apartment nearby, not wanting you to be so far away with no one. But, with him gone now too, it seemed like all you had was Bachira and Nagi. You were so grateful for Bachira’s presence, so lucky to have him in your life.
But oh how wrong had you been.
You wished you had listened to Karasu, that you had never moved here in the first place. Not as your feet slammed against the hardwood of the spacious home left to you in Reo’s absence. Not as you had come home that day to see your couch stained in his blood, his lifeless body being hovered over by the mysterious masked killer. And certainly not as the same man chased you throughout your home, his manic laughter seeming all too familiar. Once you were sure you had put enough distance between you both you ran toward your bedroom, slipping inside your closet.
That had been your first mistake.
The hand you had clamped over your mouth must have not been doing its job well enough
“Come on out, honeybee. I just wanna talk. I promise I wont hurt you, I’d never hurt you. I love you.”
You froze in place where you were hidden, your heart dropping to the pit of your stomach. You knew that voice. It couldn’t be. This couldn’t be happening …Bachira?
You let out an audible gasp, in hindsight that was most likely what had led him to your hiding spot. You let out a scream as the closet door is thrown open, mask discarded from his face now, allowing you to take him in. Crazed look in those honey-colored eyes you had grown to feel so safe when looking into, now causing bile to rise in your throat. Blood staining his hands and smeared on his cheek. Knife tossed aside somewhere on the bed as he collects you into his arms. An embrace where you once felt safe, now making you feel trapped, fear creeping up your spine. You let out a full body shudder as his nose nuzzles into the side of your neck.
“There you are my honey bee. Are you done hiding from me now?” His words come out muffled against your skin, tears pricking the back of your eyes.
“Bachira…why?”
His grip tightens on your figure, surely displeased with your words. His hand coming to your face in a harsh grip, eyes narrowed when looking into yours.
“Meguru.” He nearly growls. “You call me Meguru. People who are in love call each other by their first names. Now say it.”
You let out a hush whimper of his name and that seems to snap him back into his bubbly personality. Before you could comprehend what was happening his lips collided with yours, his tongue invading your mouth. Walking you backward until your knees hit the back of the mattress, causing you to fall back your body hitting the plush mattress with hm still on top of you You whimper, low and in the back of your throat, weakly trying to push him off of you.
“Please… Meguru, stop.”
This seems to upset him one again, his fingers curling around the bladed weapon that lay discarded on your mattress. You felt the cold blade caress the side of your face, cold metal, sliding down the column of your throat. His lips pressed to your ear as he speaks.
“It’s a shame what happened to your boyfriend.” Bachira purred, hand still coated in Nagi’s blood, caressing the side of your face. “All those muscles didn’t help much.”
You feel sick to your stomach, the knife against your throat a reminder of what could happen if you continue to disobey him. You shudder as his hand moves swiftly, cutting through the fabric of your dress and bra, eyes locked on your now-exposed chest. Hearing is mumbled ‘so beautiful. Before he ducked down, capturing one of your nipples between his soft lips. The hand not still holding the knife thumbs your neglected bud to a peak before pinching it between blood-stained digits. With every touch to your skin, more of the evidence of what he had down stains your body. He pays attention to your sensitive buds, grinding his hips into your own. You know you should feel appalled, feel disgusted that the very man who had caused you so much grief was on top of you. Touching you.
So why did it feel so good?
Why did you crave more of his touch?
Why were your hips meeting his own?
Perhaps it had been because it had been a while since you had been touched like this. Nagi found most things to be a hassle, often falling asleep almost immediately after he came. Whatever the reason you were mortified to find yourself craving more. Allowing him to slip your clothes properly off of your body. Not fighting when his lips traveled down your frame. And certainly not when he used his index and middle fingers parted your folds so he cold duck his head down and lick a fat stripe up your soaked cunt. Bachira’s body had a visceral reaction to your taste, burying his face in your cunt, his tongue alternating between licking fat stripes against your clit to pointed circles tracing shapes against the bundle of nerves. His hips grind desperately against the mattress in search of friction to his achingly hard cock. But his head was too pussy drunk already, your taste having his eyes rolling back in his head, eating you like a man starved. Like his life depended on the sustenance of your juices.
He leans back after a moment, admiring you being so exposed for him, hand rearing back to slap your exposed cunt. You cry out, pain immediately being replaced with pleasure as he dives back down, burying this face into your folds once more. His nose bumps your clit as his tongue invades your entrance, curling inside you. He collects your juices on the wet muscle, withdrawing from inside you he pushes himself up. Tongue lolling out of his mouth, allowing your juices, mixed with his own saliva, to drip down on your neglected clit. You whine, the warmth contrasting to the cold of the room. You’re shaking, trying to hold the position he’s placed you in.
Hands gripping your waist tighter than before, which you were sure would leave imprints, if not bruises on your skin in the morning. Lips attach to your clit, tongue flicking rapidly, only pausing to occasionally bite or suck on the sensitive flesh. Your hips pick up speed, practically riding his tongue as your hips buck against his face. The familiar feeling of warmth spreads throughout your stomach, your body hurtling toward your orgasm at an alarming rate. Bachira feels your thighs spasm, both hands now gripping your ass, to pull your cunt down further onto his face, head bobbing to coax you into cumming for him. You release with a scream, thighs trapping his head between your legs, only releasing once you’ve come done from your high. Your chest rising and falling with heavy pats, not noticing Bachira throwing the cloak off of his body, freeing his cock from the confines of his underwear. Only snapping back into reality as you feel the drag of his cock between your folds, the tip of him nudging your entrance, his lips brushing against your ear as he spoke.
“Now, be a good girl and scream for me, yeah?”

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"this me!" (daughter) pointed at an old picture of . . . a young you with a blue thin strap floral sun dress posing cutely in front of the camera — a big smile on your face, showing off your pearly whites, "i pretty."
nanami who had his back leaning on the couch could only muster out a soft chuckle, he had his hand on the young girl's small waist to hold her up right; preventing a tumble or two, "that's mama. she looks lovely, doesn't she?"
(daughter) craned her head up to face nanami, her e/c doe eyes blinking, ears unbelieving that the portrait was her mother, "mama? no, this me! i so pretty," she pointed her chubby finger towards the portrait, which is undeniably almost as big as she is.
"mhm, that's mama," nanami caressed his daughter's head lovingly, "you do look a lot like mama, you know?" he whispers, eyeing the portrait (daughter) had laying on her small lap.
half a decade ago — nanami told himself that he isn't fit to be a family man; he swore the both of you talked about kids, and how you'd both wait at least until later on into the marriage. but (daughter) was a surprise pregnancy, and the best thing that has ever happened to the both of you.
"this no mama, this me papa," (daughter) pouts, her soft lips puckering out slightly.
nanami used his free hand to flip the photo album, showing a picture of (daughter) as a newborn. a pink colored bandana around her small head, eyes shut in content, "this is you the day you were born," he cooed out, letting his daughter take in the picture.
what a bundle of joy she is. nanami remembered every second he spent inside the delivery room by your side — letting you dig your fingers inside his flesh, because he knew the pain that you were going through at that moment couldn't compare to anything else that he was feeling. all he cared about was you and his daughter.
"this me?" (daughter)'s meek voice resounds. nanami nodded, eyes gazing into his daughter's doe ones, "i so pretty."
nanami smiled warmly, "yes, you are pretty, just like mama," he compliments; pinching her chubby cheeks gently, "it still surprises me how you're an exact copy of your mama . . ." he pats her head, his palm engulfing her whole head.
(daughter) nods her head vigorously, "mama and me twins!" she cheers happily, kicking her feet.
the male chuckles, "mhm, twins," he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her up — standing as he puts the picture album on top of the coffee table that sat in the middle of your living room, "mama's coming home soon."
"we take cookies out of cooler, papa," (daughter) pats her father's cheeks gently before wrapping an arm around his neck to hook herself close to nanami, "warm for mama."
nanami vaguely remembered the day he passed by a baking class near his office. where he first saw you, holding onto a young boy's hand — no younger than six years of age, guiding him to whisk what seemed to be cake batter. he stood out of the glass pane, staring into the class for at least the next three minutes out of his twenty-four hours just to look at you.
he thought you looked pretty (and the display cake looked pretty as well, but that was besides the point).
but he never saw you again until three months later at the same place, and you noticed him. surprising. considering he was staring yet again for the second time. but he didn't think that you'd go out your way to talk to him right at that moment — and he was thankful you did.
"mhm, we're going to warm it up for mama," with ease, nanami opened the cooler and grabbed a plate of messily made classic chocolate chip cookies wrapped with saran wrap. (daughter) contributed to most of the procedure, and nanami thought it was the third most beautiful thing besides you and her. he's a proud dad.
the process of warming the cold cookies was short — with (daughter) prepped on top of the counter, with nanami's arms right by her sides. the two of them smiling at each other in silence, waiting for the oven to let out the satisfying 'ding!', hopefully before you came through the door.
unfortunately, things don't always go the way he wanted. and there you were, with your usual (color) coat slung over your arm, heaving out an exhausted sigh, mumbling out a soft, "i'm home."
(daughter)'s head turn to face the door, eyes widening in panic as she then faced nanami, "mama home, papa," she whispers, covering her mouth to hold back a loud giggle.
nanami nuzzled his nose into hers, "want to go hide from mama?"
the young girl nods her head, almost immediately wrapping her arms around her father's neck, "go go go, papa, hide, hide!" she whispers, giggling as she fit her small face into the crook of nanami's neck.
nanami laid a hand behind his daughter's head, he passed by you who had just walked through the short hall leading towards the living room, sending out a slight signal through his eyes as he walks into (daughter)'s sage colored room. he laid the young girl down onto the rugged floor, "go go, hide from mama."
the girl wasted no time scurrying under her bed, giggling softly. on the other hand, nanami walked out of her room with a small smile, approaching you.
"something smells good," you greet the male, opening your arms for a hug. i mean — what else do you need after a long day of work besides a warm hug from your husband?
nanami's arms felt like a blanket engulfing your body, he buckled his knees slightly to press a short kiss on your lips, "(daughter) has your baking abilities, 'm not surprised. good day at work?"
you nod, "tiring day, a boy spilt heavy cream all over the floor and his mother blamed us for it," nanami's face hardened a bit after hearing your story, "she practically went on a cursing spree in front of the kids, the cops had to restrain her."
the male grazed his finger on your cheek, "i'm sorry about that, she didn't hurt you, did she?"
you shook your head, "no worries, where's my baby, hm?"
nanami pinched your nape gently, "she wanted to surprise you with her cookies, she's in her room hiding. go see her and i'll be there with the cookies, yes?"
"you're too nice to me," you jokingly said.
"just to you," he rolled his eyes, brushing his lips over the hollow of your nose, "go, go. she's waiting for you."
you pulled yourself away from his embrace, putting your coat on top of the kitchen's counter before sauntering over to (daughter)'s room, knocking on her door. which resulted in an indubitable string of laughter from your own blood and flesh from under the bed, "baby? where're you?"
her soft and hushed giggles didn't stop when you step inside her room, "are you . . ." you pretended to open the closet, "here!"
and (daughter) stifled back a laugh when you failed to find her. and the next attempt, you squat down to eye under the bed, "there you are," her loud laughs finally chimed out, "give mama a hug, please?"
the young carbon copy of you crawled out from under the bed, immediately rushing to your lap to give you a warm hug, "i miss mama . . ." she pressed a kiss to your cheek, "mama miss me?"
you cradled her body back and forth, "mama misses you so much."
"i have surprise for mama," (daughter) abruptly pulled back from the hug, "surprise cookies for mama!"
the scent of chocolate entered your nostrils as nanami walked inside the room with a plate of freshly warmed chocolate chip cookies, "it's not a surprise anymore when you tell mama about it, isn't it?" he asks with a slight chuckle.
"'ts okay, mama still surprised. i bake cookies with papa," (daughter)'s eyes twinkled with happiness when nanami laid the plate down on the floor, "i bake cookies like mama. try try mama!"
and so you did, "'ts so yummy, good job, baby!"
nanami tugged on your arm towards him, slithering an arm around your waist, "'f course she did, you're her mama, y'know?" the male leaned in to place a short kiss to the tip of your nose.
(daughter) shrieks out, "papa cooties!"
