Under the cut lies my personal ranking of all of Spencer Reid's love interests, both actual and potential, from best all the way down to worst, plus a whole lot of unfiltered sassy commentary that nobody asked for. Then again, nobody asked for any of this, but my brain was just on one of its neurodivergent tangents. There's 11 total. Some of this- probably a lot of this- will piss some people off and I am truly sorry. I hope there's at least some other people out there who share my strong ass opinions.
1. Dorian Loker- I will never forgive these bitch ass writers for never following up on that storyline. He asked her out in Russian, for Christ's sake! One of the only times in the entire series he actually initiates a date with somebody. He complimented her coffee! For him, that may as well be a pickup line. He was finally moving on from Maeve. That was a huge fucking step. He was shy and unsure of himself, but he was clearly into her, he was flirting the best he could, and he fucking asked her out. Don't even get me started on him being into her enough to set aside his germophobia and touch her hand by the end of the episode. Or his gutted little expression when he realized he spoiled the book she was reading. They were adorable and they could have been everything. Of all the one-episode love interests, she's the one I'm most pissed at them for never fucking following up on.
2. Ethan- They were not just friends. I read somewhere that Spencer was initially supposed to be bisexual. They might have scrapped that, but bi Spence still found a way. They for sure hooked up. For. Sure. The chemistry was just there. And I am not one of those weirdo bitches who are overly fetishistic toward m/m pairings. I'm too fucking gay myself to get off on two men together. But those two men for sure were a thing- and good for them.
3. Austin the bartender- She was hot. They had chemistry. More chemistry than he did with his actual girlfriends. End of.
4. Ashley Seaver- I know y'all hate her and that she wasn't technically a love interest. However, I guarantee that she would have been if they'd kept her around. They were definitely setting it up to be that way. And, you know what? They'd have been a damn cute couple. I'd have loved to see it. And no, the "sorry for asking" moment was not grounds to disqualify it. Everyone else said as bad or worse to him at some point. If you can ship him with a psychopath who drugged him, framed him for murder, got him falsely imprisoned and nearly killed, kidnapped and tried to kill his mother, and lied about r*ping him and getting pregnant? You can ship him with Ashley fucking Seaver. If you can ship him with his fucking doctor who used her own loneliness as an excuse to violate all kinds of professional and ethical codes? You can ship him with Ashley fucking Seaver. If you can, perhaps worst of all, ship J*id? You can ship him with Ashley fucking Seaver.
5. Lila Archer- I think their worlds were ultimately too different for them to work long-term, but I do think they would have made a sweet couple for a while. They would each give the other things that their worlds were lacking. They wouldn't have been endgame, but they'd have stayed good friends. Also, "bUt aMbEr hEARD" isn't the dunk you think it is. Johnny Depp is a rich, 60-something year old white man who is problematic as fuck in his own right- and he's never going to fuck you.
6. Cat Adams- Do I want them to actually be together? No. Does she deserve him? Hell no. Would the people further down this list technically be better for him than her? Probably. But......the chemistry, y'all. The chemistry was there. Matthew and Aubrey just play far too well off of each other.
7. Maeve Donovan- I didn't hate her, but she was just a vehicle to give Spencer more trauma. I don't think she was "the one," "the love of his life," or any of that other stuff some say. I don't think they'd have lasted if she'd lived. They didn't really know each other. She lied to him about having a whole ass fiancé she never told him about. God only knows what else he didn't know. He started out as her fucking patient, for God's sake. The ethical violations were out the ass. I don't think she'd have crossed those lines if she weren't feeling so vulnerable and isolated from having to hide from her stalker. At least, not if she's as smart as everyone claims she is. Everyone- including Spencer- only puts her on a pedestal because of the tragedy of her death and not knowing what could have been. What would have been had she lived......probably wouldn't have been all that great in the long run.
8. Linda Kimura- I'll be honest, I don't recall a single damn thing about this woman. I forgot she even existed until I saw her pictured on a potential love interest compilation. While I don't recall them having any chemistry whatsoever, I'll still include her for the sole purpose of ranking her higher than the rest of these shit bombs. And speaking of bombs, that brings us to......
9. Dylan Einstein- For the life of me, I just don't understand why people go so hard for this pairing. It's like she was generated in a Mary Sue factory to fit some stereotype of what AI might imagine Spencer's ideal woman to be. Her last name is Einstein, for fuck's sake. I'd probably respect it more if they did just name her Mary Sue. They were trying too hard to present her as Girl Spencer. The bitch even wore a purple scarf! She also just came across as annoying and overly eager and seemed like she didn't really understand when to fuck off. She butted in too much while Derek and Spencer were trying to work. Some poster here said that the actress who played her shipped the character with Spencer. That is more than obvious in the way she plays her. It's like she read a bunch of Wattpad fic and decided to use the character to try for her Y/N moment. Can't blame a girl for trying, but that is one "love interest" I am glad was a one-off.
10. JJ- What could I say that hasn't already been said? The J*id plot was painfully forced. Spencer has more chemistry with a fucking paperweight than he does with JJ. Do I love their friendship? Yes. Do I love watching Spencer interact with her kids? God, yes. But, he's Uncle Spencer, not Stepdaddy Spencer. The only way Spencer and JJ are more than friends is that they're found family. Will is an absolute saint of a husband. Fuck them writers for doing him dirty like that. Even pre-Will, Spencer and JJ just didn't have the chemistry like that. I'm glad they scrapped that bullshit early crush storyline after just one episode. Also, am I the only one who remembers Spencer being totally unaffected and not even giving half a shit when JJ finally came out to the team about being with Will? He said something along the lines of "We all knew already." He was so unbothered. No way in hell has he been "waiting for JJ" this whole time or whatever these clowns pulled out of their asses toward the end. Such a waste of a plot. Literally any other pairing would have made more sense.
11. Maxine bitch ass Brenner- Here we are. Last and least. Even J*id was better than this shit. What the fuck even was the goddamn point of this bitch besides having an excuse to have Rachael Leigh Cook guest star? Too bad this is who she had to play. She was just rude as hell with her snark, her bitchy little expressions and the way she mocked the kids- elementary school aged kids- she taught. As if it was beneath her grandiose idea of herself. How could they for one second think that somebody like Spencer- somebody who loves kids, loves to teach and to learn and values education as much as Spencer- could ever like somebody like her? They were already having to cram way too much into too little space that last season. It was already a shit show. What the fuck was the point of adding her only to never bring her back? I mean, good call there at least because she sucked. I can only assume Spence realized how much she sucked and ditched her ass. She was just a pointless waste of time and never should have been a thing. I'm glad Spence made out with Cat in front of her and I hope it chapped her ass that he never kissed her that way. Glad her family didn't die, but she and they can all fuck all the way off down the road.
Thanks for sticking this one out if you did.

Hi! You often give alot of insight into anons like this and your my fave CM blog so that's why I'm here! So I'm finishing up the last seasons (and lord it is hard to get through) and they just introduced Max and I cannot stand her. She was just so rude and it felt like she had 2 different personalities the entire time she was on screen. And I worried that this meant I was like hating women because I don't like other female characters like Maeve, JJ, Hailey, and Seaver. But then I started thinking and I honestly think it's cause these Characters are women poorly written by men. But then I wondered how they created likeable Characters like Emily, Kristy, Blake, Tara, and Penelope (leaving out others like Savannah because they're under developed in my opinion) I don't know what's the difference in the writing for these Characters or of there isn't any at all and I'm just being hateful in a way. What are your thoughts?
Ah, I think about this a lot. Thank you for thinking I’m interesting enough to answer this, also!
I think you’ve really hit the nail on the head with the writers doing a poor job at most of their female characters. However, I think it’s possible (and very common in this fandom) for people to dislike any character Spencer showed an interest in, which is also problematic and rooted in internalized misogyny. To me, it all comes down to why you dislike the characters.
(A LOT More Below - Bit of a Rant)
The first step I took when reflecting to see if this was my problem was rewatching and seeing which female characters I loved. Along with the ones you listed, I also found a number of side characters I greatly enjoyed, including Lila, Austin, Dr. Linda Kamura (from Amplification, the anthrax episode), Einstein, Megan Kane, and a few other random case characters. So, right off the bat I found multiple characters who Spencer showed an affinity for. I also greatly enjoyed Cat’s character, although I found her to be underdeveloped in canon (Fanon has done a good job, IMO) and often contradictory in her character design.
If you didn’t like any of these women, and your reason is related purely to Spencer’s reactions to them, chances are you might be suffering from a bit of jealousy rather than improper character design - not that you need to like them all (or the ones that I like), but because they are all very different. You should, theoretically, find something to enjoy about at least one of them.
But the CM Writers have a TERRIBLE habit of writing women that are easy to hate.
Tumblr media
There’s a bunch of controversy I see over Haley Hotchner, but the truth is that they wrote her to be hated. That was her sole purpose. Her character’s decisions were poorly thought out and she was shown to be malicious 80% of the time. This was intentional. She was written to personify the trope of the nagging housewife. If you dislike her, you have done nothing but follow the narrative.
That being said, you should also criticize why they wrote her this way. Because it didn’t make any sense. She married a prosecutor - a dangerous, time consuming job. She had Jack when she knew he was with the BAU. Why did she randomly change her tune? Why did she suddenly demand he gives up on his dreams that she was fully aware of for years? I’d argue they wrote it like this to further the narrative of “the wife who traps you with a child to force you to do what she wants” which is garbage writing. I wish people could look at the potential she had if they hadn’t written her like... that.
Tumblr media
Maeve, I find, is problematic on multiple aspects and I’ve talked about it before. Her narrative was poorly thought out because as soon as they pitched the idea of a long-term love interest for Spencer, everyone (most notably Gubler) rejected it. They didn’t think it was necessary for his character, who already had a lot going on with the ignored plot lines of his drug addiction and mother.
There were multiple problems associated with her character that were never addressed. The fact she essentially just took advantage of a patient because she was bored, she seemed to “correct” his interests and show annoyance when he disagreed with her, she lied about having a fiance, she was shown to be considering breaking up with him... there’s a lot.
Her character is poorly written. It had a lot of potential, but they just kind of stopped caring once they decided to kill her off. She had more faults shown on screen than redeeming qualities. For many, they liked her because they see there was a potential that we’ll never see (fair). But for people like me, we interpret it as a idealized fantasy of what could have (but probably wouldn’t have) been, which is not healthy for Spencer.
Tumblr media
JJ is an interesting character because you can feel the constant struggle between AJ Cook and the writers. They really sabotaged JJ at every step of the way. I’ll be honest and say that I think there are some reasons to hate JJ, but they aren’t the reasons I see most often. Almost all of the JJ hate I see is surrounding the idea that JJ is an evil, manipulative, jealous bitch. But.. she’s not. Even in Truth or Dare, when she pulls that asshole move that was wildly OOC for JJ (in my opinion), she isn’t shown to be jealous or cruel about it.
I think she’s the most likely target for people who’s hatred is driven from jealousy or disliking conventionally attractive women and assuming them to be bitchy by nature of looking “beautiful.” I think Lila Archer* also falls into this category.
But as I said, JJ was also written with a lot of flaws. I think it’s fair if you don’t like her character or the way she treats Spencer, but I also hope that you similarly criticize the whole team in the same way, and don’t just pity Spencer because he is smol uwu babie who needs protection.
(* Yet another reminder that I ask everyone to not message me about J Depp or Amber Heard. Reactive Abuse is an extreme trigger for me and I will block you if you try to get me to talk about it)
Tumblr media
Seaver got a lot of hate based off one line of dialogue. I think it was a bad line. If they had left it out, there would be essentially no reason in my mind to dislike Seaver. I used to dislike her a lot, but the more I rewatch the show, the less she bothers me. She was just a young student who wanted to learn about her father/herself. She was MASSIVELY underdeveloped because they kicked her off just as quickly as they invited her in.
NO character was developed that quickly. Her scenes were a bit cringey and the plotlines were bad, and her character was mediocre. I don’t think she deserves the hate she gets. She is a lukewarm character.
Tumblr media
I hate everything Max’s character represents. She was introduced to show that Spencer could be trained to be “normal” and it’s anti-autistic bullshit. She had no personality besides “I hate my low-brow job as a teacher and couldn’t be fucked to change it until a man told me I was smart.” She was cracking high-school-clique jokes while her family was about to be murdered. She immediately abandoned said family to make out with her boyfriend who just admitted to enjoying kissing the woman who tried to murder her family.
Her character makes absolutely zero sense. I do not understand how she is so liked. I really don’t (other than the fact that RLC is absolutely wonderful).
If they had left her character out, I think we would have been better off for it. We could have seen Spencer wrestle with defining himself by the women in his life and learning to love himself (without just replacing those women with... another... woman...)
That being said, those who cling to Max for hope of a happy ending for Spencer... I felt that. Fanon and fanfic can solve all character deficiencies. I believe in you.
So, yeah. I’d say if you’re worried about why you dislike women characters, you’re probably on the right path. I’d just reflect on why you dislike the characters you do and whether they are written as misogynistic stereotypes. It makes complete sense to reject characters written for the purpose of making you hate them, but we should all pour one out for the brilliant actresses that had characters with so much potential if not for men ruining it.

my unpopular cm opinions
hotch is a bad father. it doesn’t matter how much he missed jack when he was away. he left jack with haley’s sister all the time. he didn’t step down as unit chief so he could have better hours. even when haley died, he didn’t make any adjustments to his schedule and was rarely around jack. he would have been better off without a kid.
seaver doesn’t deserve the hate she gets. it’s as simple as that...
calling seaver a replacement for jj is really just a backhanded compliment. what i mean by that is everybody calls seaver one dimensional, but that also applies to jj. in my opinion both characters are one dimensional.
if seaver had been on the team longer, we would have been able to see some character development from her. this character development would be great and i think if it happened people wouldn’t hate her as much.
the whole seaver was mean to spencer thing isn’t a reason to dislike her. yeah, she didn’t know him that long but we’ve also seen rossi do the exact same things. rossi was making jokes about spencer very early on. also, we’ve seen alex blake say a more harmful joke towards spencer that’s worse than what seaver said to him.
the episodes directed by mgg are some of the best, even the weaker episodes are better than the average cm episode.
jj personality goes downhill after she has henry. before she had henry, there was actual depth in her character...
jj is bad at her job once she becomes a profiler. now what i mean by this is jj only puts 100% effort into cases with kids. yes, that is a problem for me at least. every other member of the team can perform at their best even if it’s something they don’t relate to.
the entire team needs fucking therapy. they NEED it.
the writers did a bad job when it came to the teams mental health. for example: only three episodes after spencer‘s drug addiction it’s never brought up again (with the exception of the fight that happened between him and jj) and that’s just inaccurate representation because it’s going to be a constant struggle after addiction. if this were reality, the entire team would probably be seeing a therapist once a week or once every two weeks.
i don’t see the appeal for hotch. the man has literally admitted to being misogynistic at times.
spencer would be seen as annoying if he weren’t attractive. in fact, when it was brought up that matthew wasn’t supposed to play spencer and they showed the guy was supposed to play spencer people were saying that they wouldn’t tolerate him because he isn’t as attractive as mgg.
spencer reid didn’t love maeve. their relationship is questionable. their relationship was built off of a couple of phone calls. i’m not trying to say that you can’t build a connection with somebody that way, but how can you deeply and truly love someone without spending any physical time together. spencer and maeve knew each other, but only the versions of themselves that they knew from the phone calls. a part of the reason why spencer liked her was because he felt responsible for her happiness. after years and years of being disliked by his classmates and possibly his own father he seeks validation from other people. a part of spencer thinks that if he were better, stronger, or the ideal person people would stay. that’s why he needs validation and maeve gives him that validation. people can bring up the letters and phone calls for 10 months all they want, but at the end of the day it was very one sided. spencer has pouring his heart out to maeve in those letters but he didn’t know a lot about her. he didn’t know her name, where she worked or the fact that she was engaged. those things are huge. i’m not trying to hate maeve or make spencer out to be some flawless human being, but he didn’t love her. he craved acceptance from someone who wasn’t” obligated” to like him (his coworkers).
derek would be liked more if he wasn’t black... i’m not saying the reason why people hate him is because of his race, but his personality in film is liked more on a white person. the entire trope that he is built off of is often filled by white men and people tend to like that trope on men, so why don’t they like derek?
derek is under appreciated by a lot of members of the fandom...
emily almost has as much trauma if not equally as much trauma as spencer, but she hides it more. that’s why it’s not talked about as much.
female characters are judged more harshly from the fandom than male characters.
gideon is an ehh person, but he was the best profiler. (this isn’t unpopular, but i feel the need to put it here.)
the fandom makes spencer out to be somebody who does no wrong, but we all know that his fight with jj was one of the most unnecessary things. the way spencer brought up his addiction was manipulative.
feel free to talk about if you agree or disagree with my opinion in the comments.

JENNIFER👏JAREAU👏DESERVED👏BETTER👏
✨it’s rant time✨
buckle up lads bc it’s gonna be a doozy
tw// suicide mention, tw// canon typical cm violence, tw// je— 🤢 jei—🤢🤢 i can’t even fucking say it 🤢🤢🤢 je*d
so yesterday i was watching criminal minds again (wow shocker) again for the first time in like,,,, 3 months??? [that’s not important] on weTV (which was just so happening to air reruns from season 3) and there was one thing that really stuck out to me that i didn’t necessarily think about much until i went into work today
season 3, episode 15 “a higher power” shows the team going up to pittsburgh to investigate a spike in suicides rates in the community under the suspicion that it’s the work of a serial killer (okay, cool, normal fucked up every day BAU life, nothing really sus there)
but what really kinda just hit me out of the blue today was just.... how unaffected jj was by the whole case in general
the team is maybe at most, a few hours away from her hometown, with the main topic of the case being surrounded by multiple suicides and taking her past into consideration (she’s literally a stone’s throw away from her hometown where she lost her sister to suicide) and yet she just.... remains unbothered... she never toys with the necklace around her neck or ever seems uncomfortable despite this case hitting way too close to home
i guess just rewatching this episode really just... opened my eyes into how underdeveloped jj was character wise for a really long time (i mean really we know more about gideon and elle in season 4 than we do jj and they had been gone for at least a season and a half at this point)
i mean.... i guess in in heat we get... something??? when we find out that she’s been seeing will for nearly a year?? cool i guess??? and we do get an episode named after her but really it doesn’t tell us much about her background or dive more into her story other than “oh strauss is forcing me to leave that sucks” but it doesn’t really go much into detail about anything beyond that
oh hotch handpicked her to join the unit but i don’t think it ever gets any deeper than that (when it should have!!!!??!!) [correct me if i’m wrong]]
by season 5 we have a detailed idea about every other character on the team (with the only exception possibly being garcia but i digress)
we know hotch has a younger brother that looks absolutely nothing like him and said brother wants to be a chef
we know rossi came back to the bau because of a cold case that’s gone unsolved for twenty years
we know every year, morgan goes home for his birthday and visits the grave of the john doe he found when he was a teenager
we know way too much about reid and his issues jesus christ
fucking hell we even know about emily’s dark past, how much it still haunts her even before we get the ian doyle arc
even ashley seaver has a deeper storyline than jj at this point like ffs
jj.... well..... she has that boyfriend down in louisiana ig?????
and that’s what becomes annoying
jj’s character really isn’t developed past more than i have a boyfriend and i’m pregnant up until maybe, and that’s a really generous maybe, the episode will gets held hostage at a bank and damn near gets himself killed (we see her with henry.... again, i’m being very generous here)
really, we don’t see jj get any sort of deep development the rest of the team has been getting until 200
i loved seeing her finally get some depth, for her character to finally be treated as if she’s an important asset rather than a pretty face that deals with media
she becomes a character we can sympathize with!!! she has issues and fears and traumas!!! finally!!!
and then they keep expanding on her as the seasons continue!!! like yes!!! this is what i wanted from the beginning!!! jj deserved this!!!
and then
it all comes crashing and burning into a pile of shit with five words
five
words
you know the words so i really don’t have to type them out and become unnecessarily angry
but wtf
all that character development they had spent building up over the years, after finally starting to get the ball rolling to making jj a solid character the writers decided “,,,,,,let’s just boil her down romantic feelings she kept hidden for....reid.” (of all people????? confusion)
the biggest sigh i just let out
first of all, that’s such an overdone trope in hollywood and in modern times we’re sick of it we need way more flavor than that
second of all it just..... ruins jj’s character right there on the spot
a majority (maybe i’m just generalizing) but most people in the fandom are reid stans and of COURSE they’re going to be absolutely livid at that bitch jennifer jareau pulling that card on their favorite little twink
it makes her look like a bitch
and it literally makes no sense whatsoever
they went on one “date” once in season 1 and it’s never mentioned again until jj confides to emily in the bathroom in the first episode of season 14
they have about as much romantic chemistry as two planks of wood
what was so wrong with jj and reid being best friends/having a sibling like relationship (which would have been a big deal for jj!!! to let someone that close again!!!! but no!!!!!!! jj is woman!!!!!! reid is man!!!! they must have romantic chemistry!!!!!! gross)
why did jj have to have hidden romantic feelings for reid
please tell me why that was a thing
and then the writers (probably sensing that they in fact fucked up big time) just kinda.... brush it off in 15
“u were my first love” reid: “oh okay (is sad for the duration of the season)”
it doesn’t fix what happened
it doesn’t change what happened
jj still looks like a huge bitch to a majority of the fandom
and it was overall a completely useless and pointless arc that just set out to completely ruin jj and it’s so infuriating
what was the reason
what was the reason
why u gotta do it to her like that writers
i’m sad jj deserved so much better than what those stinky writers did to her
tldr: jj deserved better

heres some cm opinions i found in my drafts
i was tagged by gracie but i don’t feel like tagging anyone so u can reblog her post n add ur opinions and tell them i sent u ;)
-i agree the writers were pussys for not putting penelope and derek together but on the other hand their friendship was so valuable that i don’t mind it at all
-elle deserved better, but then again, she also deserves to be in Jail.
-in reference to that post by @ m0rcia awhile ago about penelope acting out, well yes she also deserves to be in jail, and the fact that the fbi essentially blackmailed her to work for them is all kinds of messed up, but despite her anarchist views i have to believe that she really does love her job, 75% because of the people she met along the way, 25% because she gets to help people, 0% because she works for the fucking fbi
-the simple fact that almost every member of the team was held above the law at some point or another because of how close they were- well yeah they were a family, but they’re also part of the fucking government, how are you not going to report a drug addiction? or a literal murder? sorry but no matter how in love with cm i am, this truly just enforces my acab views
-emily prentiss i dont like u as a unit chief. as person great! as a friend and as an ssa, sure i love u. but- unit chief is where i draw the line. (on a completely offhand note imagine if jj became the unit cheif, the character development yummy)
-hotch’s trauma gets severely overlooked at times, (spoilers) man’s wife left him and so have countless agents that he loved and tried his best to care for, then he was blown up, then his wife was murdered, then he was stabbed a million times, and then he was framed for some shit idk i forgot tht episode it wasnt rly good, idk my point is that hotch deserved better (but contrary to what i just said they handled most of his trauma a lot better than pretty boy’s so...)
-i would be a hardcore jeidgirl if i didnt have tumblr and/or they started it earlier (jeidgirl thea!au)
-thanks for letting reid come back from his trauma! thank you for giving him a breaking point, especially when associated with his mom! why was this such a bad thing again? (okay yeah we dont excuse the drug addiction but- jkfgd)
-i alr said this before but why did everyone call spencer gideons apprentice? it was 110% morgan and it’s very evident, spencer is his own bean/being
-at first i didn’t like seaver but that’s because i was flooded with ideas that she was just jjs body replacement, but she really was her own character who grew. also she probably kissed spencer once and i’m not one to say if it went further than that

6, 7 and 13 for the female character thing
6 - Who are adorable dorks
Totally obscure answer, but Faiza Hussain (aka Excalibur, and later Captain Britain) from Marvel’s Captain Britain and MI:13 comics (and also the Captain Britain and the Mighty Defenders Secret Wars miniseries)is the dorkiest superhero-fangirl nerd and I Love Her
Sam Carter from Stargate SG-1 is also an Excellent Nerd
Ruby Rose from RWBY, who is my favourite small red autistic aroace weapons nerd (bonus answer: Penny Polendina from the same show is also a Fave Dork, and their friendship makes me happy)
I’m very fond of Warehouse 13′s Claudia Donovan
I’m going to fudge the rules here slightly, since I headcanon Pidge as being agender, but. Pidge Gunderson from Voltron: Legendary Defender
7 - That I’d invite to a sleepover/dinner party
Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds is one of those people who, to paraphrase a popular textpost, could literally say “hey, let’s go check out that dumpster” and I’d happily do it just for the enjoyment of hanging out with her
Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. We could talk about cats and space and planes and Star Wars and it would be great
This is a very open question, so I’m going to use it as an excuse to mention another one of my Obscure Comics Faves: Rikki Barnes, aka the alternate-earth-modern-day-Bucky, later Nomad. My girl Rikki got dragged into Earth-616 and spent most of her time there Trying Very Hard to be a superhero and a high school student while also learning to cope with being on a new Earth and also spending most of the time homeless. Then she died saving the world from Onslaught after learning that she was actually a copy of the original Rikki created by Onslaught as a conduit back to Earth-616. Poor kid could do with a break, some good company and a decent meal. And also for the writers over at Marvel to remember that she existed. Bitter? No, not me…
Can you imagine Lin Beifong from Legend of Korra at a sleepover? Can You Imagine
Another obscure one, but Clarissa Mullery from Silent Witness (s16+) is hilarious, and I think she’d be a lot of fun to hang out with
13 - I wish had better development/writing
Supergirl s2 Kara Danvers! Let the woman lead her own show, dammit
I always thought that Ashley Seaver on Criminal Minds had the potential to be a really interesting character, but she was kind of limited by the fact that she was a temporary replacement for JJ and was barely there for half a season
MCU Black Widow Deserved Better
I don’t know what the hell is going on with The Flash s3 because I stopped watching it, but I do know that Caitlin Snow also deserved better
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Barriss Offee, because holy fuck did she get a raw deal on that show. Look. Novels/comics continuity Barriss was my hero when I was a kid. My hero. So seeing this character I had idolised changed almost completely in the TV show made me so angry-sad that I almost slammed my laptop shut when they made her go Dark Side just to further Ahsoka’s plotline. (I already had A Lot of trouble accepting Aksoka’s existence because I’d read all the pre-2008 books set during the Clone Wars and she was A Change and Changes Are Bad, so the fact that Barriss’s entire personality (and age- ffs, she’s older than Anakin!) was retconned for her sake soured me towards her even more. I don’t want to dislike Ahsoka, and I don’t, really, but. There’s a reason I mostly ignore her existence.) So yeah. I am a Bitter Star Wars Fan and Barriss Offee deserved better.
