And I want details! Does he rent? Have roommates? Has he decorated his living space? What's the floor plan? Did he move after his promotion (and higher salary)? Does it feel like home to him?

Some of these are what I think would be realistic, some less so. Mostly based on what I've seen in fics or what I think the most likely options are (or likely adjacent). Maybe one day I'll do a post S3 version but we'll see.

This is exclusively talking about fiction. It's been a while since I've seen people talking about it, so of course that's when I've finalized my opinion on it: I think the Backrooms works better when there's some kind of Scary Grabber than when there isn't. And I'll immediately undercut myself and say that obviously different people are going to be scared of different things. From the many tumblr posts I have seen about it, it's pretty clear that letting one's own brain invent all kinds of problems can be more effective for some than some kind of creature that Gets You. I disagree. Someone slowly dying of thirst is not horrifying to me. Don't get me wrong, it is sad. It can be upsetting, especially if you get to know the character. But it isn't scary. Scary is waking up in the middle of the night and feeling your muscles twitch because you can tell that something is in the same space as you, but you just can't see it.

It's knowing, on a fundamental level, that you have been removed from the standards of modern society, to the point that you can be made into prey in a space that looks depressingly and alarmingly like your workplace.

Can you imagine? Just for a moment?

A lot of us talk about how much we hate our workplaces, and if you work in an office, you've definitely seen some Backrooms-ass spaces. We already exist there! It's already an endless void of shitty yellow walls and weird hollow music and ugly looped carpeting. That's not scary. That doesn't make my heart pound. If anything, it just makes me flatly angry, like a labor violation. No, there has to be something else, to tip it over the edge. There has to be something else in this place that's already miserable, unlivable, ugly, and unkind. I can live in an office indefinitely, I know I can, I already do. I have horrible anxiety, that will kick up until it doesn't, and after that I'm either dehydrating to death or making these ugly hallways my home. There has to be something else. Be it a boss telling me to pick up the pace or a monster that wants to kill me, these things give context! How can you possibly be afraid of yellow walls without context?

I think that it would be really cute if Willow occasionally lost control of her magic like in For the Future, but instead of it being because she’s stressed out, its because she’s happy. Saying this mostly because I think that it would be cute if her and Hunter are hanging out and either flowers would bloom on the ground around them, or  a flower crown would appear on his head, or a flower behind his ear.

I think akito wanting nothing to do with rui and tsukasa is entirely valid actually considering that tsukasa has like zero off switch and any time he shows up akito has a 80% chance of being pulled into some shenanigans & rui not only encourages tsukasa but also frequently sets off explosions in the school and deliberately fucks with akito. And I don’t want this to change even if he begrudgingly grows more fond of them because there is nothing funnier than tsukasa and rui showing up whenever toya and akito are together and toyas like wow it’s so great to see you (with great fondness and respect) and akito is just fucking seething internally (cannot be rude to them because it would upset toya).

the intercom goes off for ems report and oh joy it’s fx’s unit. mq is in ambulance triage and as soon as fx walks through the door with the patient mq starts berating him for a shitty report

“you said your eta was 10-15 min and yet the patient still doesn’t have iv access. you’ve had that long to get one yet all i see are bandages”

“they’re a hard stick!!! if you think you’re so good why don’t you try”

(he can’t get it either and they have to do an ultrasound iv lmaooo. mq’s excuse is that fx blew all the good veins)

triage takes forever bc they keep arguing with each other

“you said their blood sugar was 232 but i just checked it and it’s 140”

“hey don’t blame me!! blame the equipment that doesn’t work half the time”

“you always ask patients the dumbest questions”

“it’s literally triage information i’m required to chart”

no one comments on the fact that mq always makes sure there’s a coke in the patient fridge for fx to steal or that fx always helps him get labs and vitals (fx’s excuse is that the faster it’s done the quicker the patient is offloaded and he can leave. sure jan)

listening to rakim and the pharcyde rn and just thinking it's actually kinda weird that more ppl haven't pointed out how much miles' taste in music affects his life and viewpoint in general

and how being raised by his uncle who's into more old school stuff on earth-42 would affect him and his development

i'm imagining 42 actually clowning 1610 for listening to post malone while placing a labcabincalifornia vinyl on his record player while they chill in his room one day lol

42's tastes would probably be more varied and just... like more developed in general bc he has a man who was more than likely a Part Of The Culture helping to raise him. aaron was out on the streets of brooklyn as a kid most likely swapping diy mixtapes and buying local rap cd's with his allowance/summer job money (assuming he was born like around 1978-1980, then he was most likely on the streets in the mid 90's during the Golden Age of Hip Hop).

not to mention that for aaron to even Do What He Does as the prowler, he is still out on the streets til this day, shooting the shit with fellow neighbors and shaking hands with black market merchants. he's dapping up store owners and trying to get on local gang leaders' good sides for intel. he's making connections! he is most def still swapping music recommendations with ppl in the hood and ordering vinyls online if he can't get his hands on them in physical brick-and-mortar stores

and music seems to be a super important thing to a man like aaron. that would definitely influence miles. interesting that i haven't seen more posts mentioning that actually!
