another venetian blinds connection
*clawing at my red string board* okay. so the book of bill i'm working with doesn't have a good screenshot of this page so i also included the transcribed version's text. but looking more at this already very fascinating passage in the book i went to go check out the song mentioned.
going to the song good vibrations on youtube, i found the music video actually has several scenes where venetian blinds are used.
for context, one of bill's listed phobias (at least out of the ones considered "odd") is venetian blinds. i've seen different theories on why which i won't be going into here, given this doesn't necessarily contradict or confirm any!
but this connection could mean a few things:
a: this song was chosen to reference that phobia in the music video on purpose as an easter egg in the book.
b: the actual phobia is connected to this somehow, perhaps to do with bringing whatever place these souls are trapped to the surface of bill's mind through association. whether or not he's actually playing the video part for his mind prisoners, i still feel like he'd know it, and a song on an endless loop could definitely cause an association.
given the comments of him being haunted and still hearing screams etc (which is something that could just be trauma induced, but could also be related to/exacerbated by whatever this soul situation is), i feel like these souls (whether they include euclydian ones or not) aren't something pleasant for him to think about.
this would also connect it to the tv static phobia, another phobia with many possible causes and connections, but at least one connected to hearing screams in relation to it:
(cipher decodes to: HE NEVER SLEEPS HE NEVER DREAMS BUT SOMEHOW STILL HE HEARS THEIR SCREAMS)
though that's all going into thoughts other posts have covered with the tv static lines. i just think with this video it's possible that the venetian blinds fear is connected in the same way.
and there could definitely still be another cause for the phobia alongside it. a multifaceted terror! something subconscious could be happening here for him to even choose a song that includes venetian blinds in the video at all.
c: it means nothing and i'm losing my mind. but i think this is a very fun connection even if it's not intended!
TL;DR: there's venetian blinds in the music video for the song that plays on repeat somewhere within bill and i think that's very interesting.

okay i said that i watch a lot of youtube & sadly this is true. i want to write about youtuber drama
okay the thing i am actually referring to is whatever weird thing is going on with gamers nexus & linus tech tips. the background summary is that linus (of tech tips) is a guy who managed to get pretty big on youtube talking about various computer-y topics, many of them gaming-focused, & parlayed this success into owning a company based in vancouver that employs more than 70 people to make videos & merchandise & so on; steve, of gamers nexus, is a guy who has done pretty well on youtube talking about various computer-y topics, mostly related to gaming, & now has like four employees in north carolina. linus tech tips does videos about a bunch of stuff; he has a boring podcast, & the channel does a bunch of product reviews & bad idea youtube bait videos (we got the biggest tv! kind of stuff), & so on. steve gamersnexus mostly does tech news & product reviews, but they really do well when some company messes up & then he can do outraged coverage about how consumers have been taken advantage of; he would really like to be thought of as a journalist who covers consumers' issues. last year he got mad at linus techtips because of how he handled a review product from a small company & also the warranty on one of the backpacks that linus sells; linus tech tips went into crisis mode last year, made some structural changes & adjusted some things, & apologized (clearly with the assistance of a crisis comms firm, lol). steve gamersnexus doubled down on being mad, then realized he sounded like a jerk & pulled that video, and then all was quiet.
until this year! there's a big stupid scandal going on about honey, a browser extension owned by paypal, that a lot of youtube influencers shilled for; honey is supposed to automatically find discount codes when you're online shopping, but it only looks at discount codes that merchants have shared with it (so not necessarily the best ones, or any at all) & also enters paypal as the affiliate referrer, which means that whatever youtuber affiliate link you might've clicked to buy whatever you're buying, that youtuber gets $0 & paypal gets the commission instead. linus techtips noticed that this was happening years ago & stopped shilling for honey, but didn't generously inform the whole community about it, so now steve gamersnexus is mad at him for that.
i don't care about these details in particular & i mostly find the whole 'creator'/'influencer' economy like, distasteful. everything is marketing now & i guess i read culturejammers stuff at a formative age but i don't like it. the thing i think is interesting is that these two people are in a public fight about what they're doing here on youtube; what are the community rules & expectations? what job are they doing? this is related to what i thought about the long hbomberguy youtube plagiarism callout video, too. is steve gamersnexus doing journalism? what does that entail? if you're a journalist, you're obliged to interact with your sources in a certain way, following a well-established set of ethical guidelines. linus techtips points this out & says that steve gamersnexus didn't operate that way, which appears to be true; steve gamersnexus has a long list of ethical principles on his website, but he's more or less written them from personal conviction (perhaps, less generously, what he thinks will play well), not derived them from j-school curricula. i'm not standing here saying, oh legacy journalism had this all figured out, i don't think that, but there was a generally agreed upon model for how to behave as a journalist. it's interesting to me because i think the 'big youtuber' or 'content creator' or 'influencer' or whatever is a fundamentally different job that leaves you with different audience expectations & personal pressures than working for like, a newspaper, and nobody has actually arrived at a consistent or articulable idea about what ethical behavior there looks like. youtubers copy each other, but then most of them are amateurs; does it matter? journalists shouldn't get into online slapfights, but journalists also usually don't have to shill t-shirts with zingy one-liners they said last week on them.
one major, obvious point here is that gamersnexus does better when there is some kind of thing to be mad about. this isn't unique at all, that's why there's a whole genre of youtube drama that is clearly designed to do well with audiences, because individual videos are monetized. but if you want to be a serious journalist, then you can't operate that way, right? you're not supposed to churn out SEO clickbait, because that's exactly the kind of shit that is easy to produce with an LLM, it contributes very little of value to anyone except advertisers. at the same time, you're running a business, more or less on your online persona, your face. journalists, actors, & so on all rely on professional reputation to have a career to some degree, but that's not the same thing; you don't need people to imagine that the wall street journal is their friend who speaks up for the little guy. so there are competing pressures & we can't decide what the right thing to do is, what exactly our responsibilities to one another are.
all this to say my favorite moment in linus techtips' latest crisis comms monologue is when he calls steve gamersnexus an influencer, because this isn't strictly an insult but is surely meant & received as one, despite being, i think, true. there's just a weird churning cultural problem around what media production should look like & who gets to be taken seriously & how, and i think it's a charged, usually unproductive conversation. relevant also that linus techtips has never claimed to be doing journalism, & has a different, vaguer model of integrity, which involves not lying in product reviews & being transparent about sponsored content. i think this is probably the way the wind blows, but it's easier to pick & choose when you're already doing well, & again this whole approach is pretty loose.
#why did i write this? easy. i was procrastinating on doing the dishes#i didn't talk about it here but the techtechpotato video from the last go-round was fascinating for much the same reasons

Sunday Afternoon
I woke up in Denton again today. Dang it. I keep hoping for one of those 80's soap opera moments where I wake up and this was all a bad dream. So I did what I always do and made the best of it while silently cussing about everything. If Mickey reads this he'll ask, "Really, silently??" Okay, I may vocalize my discontent on occasion. And by occasion, I mean daily. Anyyywayyyy, there's not much happening around here. After lunch we went over to the auction house and poked around. There was some cute furniture there that I'd love to get my hands on and paint - but nothing we truly needed. I do have my eye on a stack of vintage children's books. I'm a sucker for anything Rupert related and this auction lot has three Rupert books!
Have you ever watched Rupert and the Frog Song? I love it so much I may want it played at my funeral. Well, I doubt I'll have a funeral, so I may tell my family to watch it and just burn me up in the Weber. Is that legal? Anyway, Paul McCartney wrote the music and lyrics (We All Stand Together) and it's pure magic.
The first time I saw it I was in a hotel room in Seattle with my two sweet babies. We'd flown in from the Florida panhandle (long day) and were overnighting before catching a morning flight to Anchorage, Alaska and then on to Barrow/Utqiagvik to our new home at the tiptop of the world. We finally had beachfront property but it came with polar bears and icebergs. Matthew was 5 1/2 so Tyler was 2, we'd had a very long travel day and they were such little troopers. After wrestling our luggage into a van and arriving at the hotel I ordered room service cheeseburgers and found the Disney Channel on tv. Rupert and the Frog Song was just starting so we cuddled up in our jammies with our dinner and giggled ourselves silly over the frogs. We may have been overtired and a little punchy, but I was so happy in that moment with my precious little boys, and this song was cemented on my heart. The three of us survived plenty of adventures and tough times, but we did stand together and my gosh, look at them now. I couldn't be more proud of them. If you have any interest, you can see Rupert and the Frog Song here. It's old, and it starts out a tad slow ,but it's lovely. If you're impatient you can go straight to the 5:30 mark and watch the song.
youtube
That's why a dusty stack of books at an auction house in Denton made me put a hand to my heart and say, "Ohhh." It's also the reason that I will probably bid too much. The heart wants what it wants.
After visiting the auction house we made a stop at Aldi and picked up a few things for the coming week. Salmon, pork for carnitas, ingredients for veggie soup, broccoli, zucchini, and some very pricey eggs. A dozen eggs for nearly $5 and they were limiting customers to two dozen. Good grief, sure makes me miss my chicken raising days. We returned home and the mister spent the rest of the afternoon in his office processing photos or making videos for YouTube. I never really know what he's doing up there. I sat at my desk and started worked on a little birdhouse for this spring. I picked up a cheap, unfinished wood birdhouse a couple of months ago at a craft store. I think it was $6. I'm currently gluing some china pieces on it before grouting it.
I'll use white grout, probably paint the roof a brighter red (I used what I had on hand and I don't like it) and give it a home on the front porch. It's a really fun and easy project that keeps my hands busy. Easy to listen to a podcast while fitting the pieces, it's not brain surgery.
I try to keep my mind busy too, and that usually involves writing or reading. Last week I plowed through this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the reviews said, "In turns absurdly funny and devastatingly tender, Alison Espach’s The Wedding People is ultimately an incredibly nuanced and resonant look at the winding paths we can take to places we never imagined—and the chance encounters it sometimes takes to reroute us." Spot on, funny and tender. I loved Phoebe, understood Lila, ached for Juice, and so on. Highly recommend. I also highly recommend Etsy (how's that for a segue?) You know I've been shopping on Etsy since 2008. I love supporting individual artists and creators, and I've rarely been disappointed. Check out this ball cap I recently received - custom embroidery reading, "Mentally in Paris". Always, people, always.
If I were in Paris right now I'd stroll Rue Clare and choose something delicious for dinner from the market stalls, after dinner we'd stroll over to Champ de Mars and watch the Eiffel tower sparkle. I wonder if that would ever get old? Doubt it. But, as I mentioned, I woke up in Denton again so tonight I'll be watching another episode of Land Man with Billy Bob Thornton and talking to my cats. Bonjour, petit chat. Voudrais-tu manger? They always answer. Darling kitties. Molly has claimed the clubhouse, so I feel like I can't toss it out just yet.
She looks miserable because I woke her up when I snapped her picture. Grumpy ol' gal. I suppose I've become a grumpy ol' gal too. I'll try harder not to be. On that note, I'll wish you a beautiful day (or evening, depending on when you read this). I hope that you're finding moments of joy and savoring them - a laugh with a friend, a good cup of coffee, a book you can't put down. Those are the little things that help a soul survive this crazy world. If you've had a tough day, consider yourself hugged. If you've had a great day, spread some of that happiness around.
See ya' soon. Stay safe, stay well. XOXO, Nancy

@theotherseapancakes
i mentioned ill rb a post about majima's sexuality/gender identity in the context of 1980s-2010s japan but i never got to it bc i cant find the post ;;
but gist of it is, the majima everyone knows is... kind of putting on an act. everything about the zanny funny majima everyone mostly knows is an act he puts on mostly to mess with kiryu. this video kinda sums it up succinctly:
youtube
even his kansai dialect is... fake as shit. (the meta explanation is that his voice actor isnt familiar with kansai accent and the director was like 'its majima its ok just roll with it')
it's probly hard to hear but his dialect is multiple levels of wrong. another joke video here but that isnt how kansai dialect sentence structure works! also his crazy persona is really how he behaves, mostly.
youtube
dont wanna inflate this post but theres plenty of kansai dialect language videos on youtube to hear what a usual kansai dialect phrase sounds like
majima's sounds like he smooshed standard tokyo japanese with some random stuff he picked up from osaka, which tracks with his backstory...
youtube
^^ he speaks with standard jp here. this takes place technically before y0 (i think)
anyway. so. the 'mad dog' persona both in universe and out he has is mostly an act and his character growth from 0-8 is largely like this: sane -> goes through SHIT -> plot -> snaps -> loses his sworn brother and is likely very depressed -> messes with kiryu for some semblance of normalcy -> kiryu helps stabilizes his life both directly and indirectly, thereby stabilizing his mental state -> sane but wears the mask bc hes made a name for himself as the mad dog
so all of that is important bc in a manner of speaking, LGBTQ in the 1980s to 2010s is considered... an 'act'.
super short summary of why: confucius idea dictates that men must pass on their bloodline to offsprings bc its honorable for the family bloodline. confucius bleeds into bushido, morphs, which bleeds into the larger fabric of japanese culture.
MEANING, its totally ok to be gay and play so long as a male offspring is produced. LGBTQ then is seen as a juvenile thing that most people will grow out off eventually. (at least prior to TV era)
then TV era brought in western media, and back the the mid 1900s, LGBTQ became synonymous with being a western idea. lots of tropes of flamboyancy is closely linked to westerness in characters. so queer became a foreign idea. JP TV then perpetuated this with okama stereotypes and sometimes made a mockery out of them, which continued pretty much until 2000s.
some also see it as a evil western mental virus/illness too.
(negative okama stereotypes are portrayed as highly thirsty male hunters dressed in a less than flattering drag with facial hair. often used to elicit"EW DISGUSTING GET AWAY FROM ME" reactions from other characters.)
smoosh that with existing cross-dressing theater arts and the idea of some 'kiddy phase' and suddenly being LGBTQ is more or less equated to an act.
add in the fact that transitioning is a very difficult thing to do if one doesnt conform fully into a binary Male or Female gender identity, suddenly genderfluidity looks very campy in JP media context.
which. majima kinda is. left: y0 appearance, taking place 1989. right, y1 onward, starting 2005
leather and TIGHT leather has some associations with the BDSM scene, which intersects with the sleazy night life and sexually related things. (queerness is perceived to be mostly this bc demonization in a similar fashion to... everywhere basically)
and also, there was one time where majima was goromi:
the context for this: Majima Everywhere was a system that y1k had, where Majima would spawn absolutely anywhere and everywhere to fight kiryu. for fun. theres a lot of interesting character moments bc his act or mask slip off every now and then. this is one of those.
anyway, goromi is an interesting case of a more positive okama stereotype bc theres absolutely zero malice in the writing that i can tell. key thing: kiryu reacts bewildered but positively to this encounter
so all of this to say
yeah majima is really, really not straight.

What song are you fixated on at the moment? - A Nonsense Christmas by Sabrina Carpenter, it fits the season, its playful, and I love all the innuendos in it
What is your Enneagram type? - 4/4w3
Do you love gargantuan Youtube video essays? - I prefer mid-size ones like an hour or less and usually about true crime, natural disasters, climbing/diving expeditions gone wrong, etc.
Tell me about your childhood imaginary friend. - I never had an imaginary friend but I was big on playing pretend especially around like the Warrior Cats books or pretending to have powers.
What is your go-to way to fall asleep? - Noise cancelling headphones, sleeping mask, ASMR, but I play game playthroughs on my TV.
If you had to change your name, what would it be, and why? - I've changed my name before and the two names I go by currently are tied to characters that really resonate with me and that I feel a connection to.
What is your favorite of Redacted’s audios, and why? - David's Hoodie Audio, it was the first one I ever heard and I latched onto the character and the audio kind of aggressively. That audio has gotten me through a lot this year.
What Redacted boy holds no appeal to you, and why? - Ollie! I love him, don't get me wrong, but for me something about him is kind of boring and I don't find myself going back to his audios at all.
Tell me about that one book/movie/tv show you know all the words to. - The Twilight movies as cringe as that is. They came out during a really shitty time in my life and they became a comfort, I've seen all of them more times than I can count.
Which Redacted boy are you platonically attracted to? - Honestly, Damien. I relate to his story in a lot of ways and just generally as a character plus he's so ride or die I feel like he'd be a great friend and wouldn't be hard to relate to.
Do you have a go-to thing you ramble about when you’re tired, and if so, what is it? - Usually random TikTok drama that I've come across and/or random political things going on currently.
Tell me your go-to gas station and drink combo. - 7/11 Slurpees (Coke and Cherry mix) and Munchos (best potato chips ever)
Tell me about your favorite playlist at the moment. - I have an everything type playlist with all the music I like and it's the one I've been cycling through the most. It's fun to hear how all my odd tastes come together in one playlist.
What’s your guilty pleasure media, and why? - Currently? Boyfriend ASMR I suppose. It's really hard to explain to other people what this thing is without sounding at least a little odd - (I had to explain it to a new therapist and could not figure out how to do it without sounding a little insane.)
And whatever else you think tells me about who you are! - My favorite color is pink, my favorite sweet food is chocolate, I use emoticons a lot :3c and I love my friends above all, they've gotten me through a lot and I really value community.
The Enthusiast is an interesting, difficult to match type because I could pair you so compatibly with so many people. Ultimately, it was vibes and the color pink that led me to pair you with Gavin.
Enthusiasts are characterized as creative, outgoing, and unique, the kind of person you don’t forget. I love the idea of pairing Gavin with someone like that because that’s kind of how he is too; he’s best with someone that has the same star power, the same je ne sais quoi to stand out next to him. Not just that but I love that y’all are very interpersonal people with friends being so important to you both; that’ll be perfect considering how the DAMN group are not just his friends but his family.
Y’all would honestly be such an it couple around Dahlia maybe with some cute matching outfits, some pink statement pieces that you and Gavin swap because he’d be a fashionista and a thief that way. When you’re not found at the 7/11 with your respective Big Gulps and Slurpees, you’re chilling at home, giving Gavin a pop culture education because if he hasn’t seen Jumanji, we can’t be sure he’s seen Twilight, and you’d have to fix that.
Song:
Yes, I'm young for a teacher, I'll teach you what you don't know/ (I could teach you the things that you wanna know)/ But I can't give it up all at once, you would overdose/ Don't you bring any bull in the room tonight/ It's a whole new rodeo/ It could be you and me/ But you know that I'll steal the show, oh (yeah)
One, it makes sense for me to give you a Sabrina Carpenter song in return, so that’s fun. Two, I love this song in particular because I could storyboard a whole movie scene set to it of you and Gavin in a Dahlia club, dancing, outdoing one another, just killing it with the romantic and sexual tension of the song like it’s a duet. I have a vision, okay?
Runner-Ups:
Asher was a really close runner-up for you because community and pack are so important to him too as Shaw Beta, so you would have been a good mate for him. Vincent is a runner-up not just because it’s fun to pair Twilight lovers with vampires but because he also finds so much cheesy comfort in those movies; he loves them.
note: whoever this is for and you know who you are let’s pretend this is the first and only time I posted this ask hahaahhaahaaaa I’m sorry bless you
Read this post and send me an ask if you’d like a match-up of your own! 💌

OK so I'm bad at watching TV but your Titans!Jason fic has me sort of curious about checking the show out. I'm mostly a comics!Jason fan (I coast on that knowledge to read your stuff) and I did read a wiki summary of his arc and wasn't super interested, but I think a real human with Jason opinions I tend to agree with might be a better indicator. So thoughts on picking up the show?
Hi there! Firstly, thank you very much! It’s always hugely flattering when someone who doesn’t watch Titans likes my Titans fics <3
Secondly, uh. Titans is not by any definition a *good* show.
It has so many issues. The casting is amazing, but the writing is choppy and inconsistent and the pacing is awful. They chose an interesting mix of characters, but their commitment to making everything as dark and edgy as possible back in 2018 makes it so that more often than not they're all deeply unlikable. Many of the concepts they introduce have absolutely fascinating wider implications but then the show fails to examine them in any meaningful way, and it often directly contradicts itself in ways that are incredibly frustrating!
It compels me though dot gif
But somehow, SOMEHOW, despite all that, or maybe because of it, they also managed to make an extremely compelling Jason!
Titans!Jason draws titbits from a whole bunch of different comic runs - he’s older when he meets Bruce ala Rebirth, his parents are the drug addict and the two-face grunt from post-crisis, some of the Scarecrow stuff in season 3 pays homage to the Arkham Knight and Injustice video games - but he’s very much his own character, you know? He’s also canonically ADHD, which I may have mentioned before but it really does define his character, even though the show never actually brings it up in relation to his issues or behaviour.
(It would also be remiss of me not to commend Curran Walters’ performance, because that kid put his whole heart into playing Jason for personal reasons and it shows! Even when the writing/executive choices were extremely questionable - looking at you, season 3 part 2 - he pulls it back enough for it to be watchable for me.)
ANYWAY, back to your actual question xD
Jason isn’t in all that many episodes anyways, so if you’re just interested in him specifically and you're not overly bothered about the plot, I'd recommend looking up season 3 episode 5 ("Lazarus"), which is the background ep for the build up to Red Hood and also the only 100% Jason focused episode. It's coincidentally my favourite episode, and if you watch the "previously on" section it'll cover all his major plot points in a handy dandy 45 minute window!!
And if you’re just here for the condensed angst, this fantastic video on youtube is four minutes long and really sums up the general feels Titans!Jason gives off!
I don't know if any of that is helpful, but thank you for letting me ramble about my special interest :D!

Why Matt Walsh is a terrible "children's author"
So I study children's literature at university, and about a year ago I watched a video posted by Sam Collins, who is a wonderful trans YouTuber, and he was reacting to a children's book written by an infamous transphobe and self-proclaimed fascist, Matt Walsh. This book was called "Johnny the Walrus", and allegedly it's about identity. About a kid who pretended to be a walrus and the so-called "internet people" took it literally and forced him to actually be a walrus. He did this as an analogy to mock trans people and trans children.
Not only is the book inappropriate, hateful and horrendously transphobic, but it's just a bad piece of literature in general. And I get that opinions are subjective, but this is from what I've observed from the book and what I've learned at university.
Starting off, there is a concept in analysing literature known as "death of the author and birth of the reader", in which the reader is able to have their own interpretation of a piece of literature regardless of what the author intended for the story. However, children as young as what this book is aimed at most likely don't have this concept, and therefore won't understand the analogy that Matt is trying to make. Because gender and animals are two very different topics, the most the book will do is convince children that playing pretend games is bad and that it will get them into trouble. As a kid I pretended to be various characters from TV shows I liked such as Nuzzle from this show called Nuzzle and Scratch but nobody ever forced me to become a fucking alpaca did they?
It's so odd to me that someone actually let him into a classroom full of children in order to spread his propaganda when more likely than not, these kids are not gonna know what the fuck he's on about. And when he's reading his wasted tree to children, he is not truly engaging with the children, and in turn, the children look bored and uncomfortable with his presence. He just has no interest in the children, or in actual children's fiction, he's clearly just there to spread hateful ideologies. And plus he kinda looks like a nonce but I digress-
And plus, when you're writing children's literature, it obviously needs to be written with sincerity, and to actually entertain children. For example, if you look at children's authors such as Michael Rosen, when he performs his stories such as 'No Breathing in Class' or 'Chocolate Cake', he interacts with the children very well, the children who are listening to his stories are entertained and engaged in the story, because Rosen not only tells the story, he also SHOWS the story, making faces and using body language to further express his stories. He's funny and relatable, he makes jokes and the themes of his stories and poems are light-hearted and suitable for all ages. That's what makes a good children's writer.
On the other hand, in Matt Walsh's story, there's nothing remotely fun or exciting or creative about the story at all, it's just bland and there is no substance. And it's only purpose is to serve conservative ideologies. Not to mention the illustrations are abysmal. Just because the narration is rhyming and it has illustrations, doesn't make it good, or remotely appropriate to read to children.
Also for the love of jesus, if you are writing a book for kids, don't include things like "bigot" or "internet people", or anything along the lines of a "woke mob", because kids won't understand that, and also it's cringe. Things like that do not need to be in a children's book thank you.
And plus, even if this story was literal, it would be inaccurate anyway. Because actual parents of transchildren are not forcing their kid to surgically transition because that would just be irresponsible parenting. Yeah, the kid may socially transition, such as cutting their hair, wearing different clothes, etc, but it doesn't go any further than that.
Face it my guy, you can't write for children so maybe just stick to ya shitty podcast.

Welcome To Dreamworld Idea Dump
So, like I said earlier, my thoughts have slowly become consumed by the web series, Welcome to Dreamworld by Rainbott.
For those of you who didn't find this post through the dreamworld tag and who follow me, the series is a hand-drawn, voice-acted series presented as a found footage expose on a company called Dreamworld Entertainment. The new mechanic of the place is recording his experience working at this indoor neon pop amusement park, and sending these recordings and other related media to the owner of the YouTube channel, Rainbott. The animatronics inside the building are haunted and we are along for the ride as our POV character, Wiatt Nicholson, explores the facility and figures out how to free all the souls trapped inside. If that sounds interesting, click or tap here to watch the series and join me in this fun madness, and when you are caught up, read more for a collection of my headcannons, favorite moments, and fanfiction ideas.
First, this is a clip of my favorite scene:
And speaking of that moment, these two clips have similar energy:
From The Most Underrated Game Ever by Jaiden Animations
And a longer version of my favorite exchange between Litho and Wiatt: https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxqxz2E0JfxWhZJN-xJwmtMNSARppOkmPk?si=IDNuPlkQVGmsau5K
I had this handful of ideas that culminate in a scene:
During midterm week in high school, Eric has a TV with Mario Kart set up for students to destress during lunch.
A sleep deprived Wiatt says something about electromagnetic screens being what makes it possible for the karts to drive on the ceiling.
This idea ends up being used so the animatronics can speed on the walls in some parts of the facility.
It is possible to buy shoes with detachable rollerblades from the skate park.
The movie Bolt exists in the Welcome to Dreamworld universe.
This all comes together to justify a scene I had in my head where Wiatt has to get somewhere really fast and Cheer pushes a pair of roller shoes into Wiatt's arms and then Ribbon Dancer gives Cheer and Wiatt a (jump) rope.
Wiatt hates every second of it, but he basically is dragged along the walls of the facility as high speeds while "I Need a Hero" from Shrek plays.
Wiatt's dad accepts his son when he comes out and when Wiatt tells him his name/gets it changed, he makes Wiatt a hat that says " I put the "I" in Watt"
(I have been holding in this pun for 3 days. Seriously. Wiatt spells his name like Watt for electricity and I is the second letter.
He is the second person perspective character, and thus the "eyes" of the viewer.
He also treats the animatronics like actual people and is fighting to give them back their old lives and later a sense of who they truly are.)
I have wondered if anyone is the type to play memes over the speakers and after a 3rd rewatch the answer is probably Oliver.
I want a happy ending/humane version of the animatronics where they are piloted remotely with a VR headset, microphone, and motion capture suit.
I want Oliver and Wiatt to be the tech support and for them to take turns so they can force each other and their loved ones to take a break if anyone gets in a state of hyper focus or needs to take regular breaks to prevent eye strain.
I want the system that shows Star is taking a break/having technical difficulties to be Ursa Major/Minor themed so there can be an, "exit pursued by bear" joke.
I want Wiatt and Oliver to have little robots either like the triplets or like Star Wars droids that they can pilot remotely to test out features or to be in multiple places at once. Definitely not there as excuses to be in the VR piloting areas with their loved ones. Totally…
I want there to be quiet rooms and therapy cuddles rooms with Twimblos for people who get sensory overload, or anxiety, or who need a quiet place to decompress.
I want them to have a YouTube channel where they mess around or make things. I want them to have little engineering/computer science projects that they do for fun in their free time. I want them to make a scale model of Glados from Portal and for someone (Oliver) to connect it to the support rails where the Star animatronic was last placed. Lewis is very unamused, but also wants to do some of Glados's monologues. (if Sara is redeemed and still works there, he could quote Portal 2 with the "You murdered me, fair is fair" type lines, assuming they ever get to a place where they can joke about it.)
I think Sara might be good with Physics and also can build Rube Goldberg machines. This girl has won domino sculpture/stacking contests. This headcannon is only a few seconds old, but you can pry it from my cold, dead hands and then try and try to erase it from my memory.
I also think Sara would have/make a long furby given the opportunity if every second of her life weren't consumed by the whole saving humanity by figuring out immortality.
If I had a nickel(son) for every time there was a forest fire in this series used as a coverup for a death, I would have two nickels. That isn’t a lot, but it is weird that it happened twice.
Someone in the YouTube comments said that Wiatt and Alison come from the same family tree. I don't know what video revealed this information or if it is even the case, but I hope it is because I have Ideas.
What if Litho had some claim to/strong influence over the bloodline Alison, Carlos, Owen, and Wiatt? There could be a dramatic moment where Litho realizes that Wiatt is related to Carlos/Winnie and thus that he can possess Wiatt or do whatever with his soul without killing him.
I forgot what the other ideas were. I need a nap. I think I had an idea for a fic where Wiatt gets possessed by Litho, ends up in the same place as Sara’s soul and the souls of other victims and is able to pull them out of oblivion. Maybe Nicholsons tend to have a more latent ability to collect/touch/manipulate souls and when Wiatt gets his body back he finds out that this ability has been heightened.
I also want to write an AU where Wiatt has similar abilities to Damien and he can see ghosts and people’s auras, but it is much fainter and not consistent so he just assumes he is having trouble with his eyes. Then when he finds out about it he needs to know EVERYTHING about this ability like why he has it, if his family knew, why no one said anything.
Here is a paste from discord of an idea I foisted upon my friend. If I am not lazy, I will edit it to be more concise and to not have Sara’s last name spelled wrong.
I had a vague idea for a nothing goes wrong au
Rather than get the money to start Dreamworld in a contest, the contest gives Oliver, Sara, and Lewis a full ride scholarship to some college
And the college has a good film program/whatever field Wiatt is interested in, so they all end up going
Or Wiatt doesn't meet them until they share a class in college
The trio get an apartment/house maybe
And they are saving up to make Dreamworld a reality
Also the area they are looking to buy is the same plot of land where the arcade was. It is the cheapest since there are rumors that the place is haunted and things keep going wrong for whoever buys the land
But this is all just setting the stage for silly au shinanigans
Wiatt has the slight ability to sense ghosts/vibe check. He has a kind of Spidey sense
But instead of avoid the thing, he wants to know why this sense was triggered.
He feels comfort in knowing about things, it gives him a sense of control in a situation where he has little control over what will go wrong.
As a result, he is constantly suspicious of Sara and it has evolved into a weird rivalry between the two.
One possible scene (note in this version Wiatt is roommates with Oliver and Lewis instead of Sara)
Wiatt: Kicks door down, "Covetman, you dusty bitch!"
Lewis, "Wiatt, Darling, she just got here. What could she possibly have done to earn your ire?"
Wiatt: "She used my parking spot!"
Oliver: ....
Sara: >:3
Lewis: "Wiatt... Darling... You don't drive."
Wiatt: "Well, she still should have asked!"
Also my friend and I had this conversation:
Friend — Yesterday at 8:31 PM
Hejdjfushshd I like the goofy setting
Also him being suspicious of Sara and finding comfort in his ability is A tier
Me— Yesterday at 8:35 PM
In the choose your own adventure video (the latest video on Rainbott's channel,) Wiatt has a Moment and I think I get him better
Like I think he is similar to Dipper in his thirst for knowledge
Friend— Yesterday at 8:56 PM
Oooo
—
I have one other story idea in the college roommates au, but I think I will save it for a separate post.
#Welcome to Dreamworld#Icy scribes#Icy babbles#I was up until like six thinking about this series#now that my thoughts are mostly out there i am going to sleep

The profound laziness of Dave Rubin
No, but you posting a video about it for clicks is. (source: Rubin Report on YouTube)
Dave Rubin is a pretty regular source of truly insane and stupid takes and today is no exception. This was the episode he put out on January 31st and as usual it breaks new ground in the realm of stupidity. Lets get into it.
Dave starts off by declaring the theme of todays episode, or lack thereof.
01:24, Dave Rubin: "The theme of todays show is there's an awful lot happening in the world right now. This WW3 situation seems like it's ramping up a bit. I'm gonna try to cool the jets as everyone loves talking about 'Oh my god WW3 is happening and oh my god the civil war is happening and oh my god the alien invasion is happening.' Sometimes, maybe we can have some calmer heads prevail so we'll do a little bit of that. But what I wanted to start with that'll kind of prime everything is that Jon Stewart-"
Brief pause, so what's the theme? If the theme is WW3 related stuff, how on earth is Jon Stewart even remotely related to that?
01:51, Dave Rubin: "Jon Stewart, I guess former comedian. I don't know what we call him at this point, he's basically a progressive activist now."
"Yeah, imagine being a former comedian who became a political activist. Man, I can't even imagine. That's so sick."
First of all, the sheer lack of self awareness is stunning. Second of all, watch that video in full if you want to get an idea of the sheer lack of talent that Dave brings to the table. It's three minutes of Dave being a complete moron constantly trying to do crowd work and getting absolutely no laughs out of anyone.
02:18, Dave Rubin: "Jon Stewart left the Daily Show, what was it? About six years or so ago. Ends up bringing a new show, The Problem With Jon Stewart onto Apple TV and he just goes all in on the crazy leftism."
Jon Stewart is back at the Daily Show for a limited time and Dave Rubin isn't gonna take it! He's only hosting on Monday nights to cover things related to the election cycle.
Jon Stewart was always a pretty big leftist. Here's him absolutely demolishing fellow blog favorite Tucker Carlson all the way back in 2004. I can't help but feel a tinge of jealousy in Dave's coverage of Jon. Jon also stood up for his free speech, something that Dave should love, by walking away from his show on Apple TV when they told him he couldn't talk about AI and China.
Dave doesn't even understand the most basic facts about this story...like the fact that Jon isn't the only person hosting the Daily Show or the fact that they are making more than the Monday episode.
02:30, Dave Rubin: "But the machine is bringing him back now, putting him back at the Daily Show at the chair on a weekly show not a daily show. So the Daily Show's going to weekly, alright they're going to struggle with that."
Here's what happened, Dave read some headline somewhere about Jon Stewart returning to the Daily Show and instead of trying to learn the facts about the story that he's trying to cover, he just barged in and started talking about it on his show.
If Dave actually read about what he's trying to talk about the subject he's talking about, he'd know that Jon is only hosting on Monday’s and that other people are hosting the show on all the other days of the week. It's also only for the election cycle.
Dave plays some clips of CBS for him to react to.
03:36, Dave Rubin: "We're doing PR, we're owned by the same people and we have to tell you he's really great. Yeah, ok! So you guys get how the whole machine works, right? There's no reason for CBS News to be covering that on their nightly news program."
At the end of the clip he plays, the reporter discloses that CBS and Comedy Central are both owned by Paramount, in short disclosing the conflict of interest. Should they have maybe not covered this? Yeah, I wouldn't have because it's a conflict of interest. But they did disclose it.
03:51, Dave Rubin: "And the damn shame about Jon Stewart and we'll illustrate this in just a moment is that at least for the first couple of years at the Daily Show he was doing something kind of new and poking and prodding at the media the way I kinda do on this show."
Dave Rubin and Jon Stewart have one key difference; Jon is funny and insightful and Dave is well....Dave.
04:07, Dave Rubin: "He's sort of gone off the deep end, or I don't even need to qualify that, he has completely gone off the deep end when it comes to progressive politics and I would say become everything that he probably once despised."
Just to recap some of Dave's career; Dave started off at the Young Turks, a progressive news outlet, and ended up starting a conservative news show after leaving the Young Turks. His sudden pivot to conservativism coincidentally dovetailed with receiving money from the Koch Brothers.
So who has became everything they once despised here?
Dave plays a clip of Jon confronting a Republican attorney general about gender affirming care for minors. If I were Dave I really wouldn't have played that clip as Jon does a really good job dismantling the Attorney Generals arguments. Dave does cut the clip and this was his takeaway.
06:51, Dave Rubin: "And it goes on and on, what an absolutely smug unlikeable person he became for the cool one million plus per episode he was making on that now defunct show."
More of Dave describing himself. Seriously, take some time to watch a Dave Rubin episode if you have time. He talks in this really slow and condescending way that's near unbearable to listen to.
07:10, Dave Rubin: "Jon Stewart, if you are watching this you might want to read Irreversible Damage by Abigail Shrier, thank you, who wrote an incredible book about how so much of what's happening to our children is a social contagion. Particularly when it comes to young girls thinking they can transition and become young boys."
Abigail Shrier is one of those right-wing grifters who has made a cottage industry of spreading misinformation about transgender youth. Blog favorite and professional sociopath Matt Walsh is another example of that. Shriers book is filled with massive amounts of misinformation and outright falsehoods.
Also, the idea of Jon Stewart even knowing of Dave Rubin's existence is laughable. You just know if Jon stepped foot on Dave's set, Dave would be tripping over himself to get Jon a beer and a pillow for his feet.
08:04, Dave Rubin: "No you cannot take a boy and actually make them a girl, that's just not reality."
Say it with me; absolutely nobody is giving transgender surgeries to small children. Dave's entire framework is simply denying the existence of transgender people.
I've said this before but I find the fact that Dave is a member of the LGBTQ community and still has hopped onto the right-wing transphobia bandwagon really infuriating. Years ago his ilk would be trying to make his marriage illegal and guess what? They still want that! It's so frustrating to watch this guy run defense for guys who hate who he is.
And talk about "smug and unlikeable". Dave hasn't even bothered to meet up with the families of trans youth like Jon has and is handwaving legitimate medical treatments because "my billionaire sponsors don't like it".
Anyway, lets move on before my head explodes. Dave plays another Jon Stewart clip, this time him interviewing Gavin Newsom. Dave then plays some clips from the Daily Show when Trevor Noah was hosting it. Dave proceeds to call a transwoman a "creature" and I want to throw my laptop out the window. I'll elaborate on this in the conclusion, but I'm starting to realize that Dave Rubin is a profoundly lazy content creator.
14:22, Dave Rubin: "Now the reason I'm showing you all this and starting the show with this Jon Stewart thing and everything else is because the Daily Show became this cultural touchpoint. 'More young people get their news from the Daily Show than anywhere else.' So when you wonder how did this all happen? That so many kids are confused about their gender. How did it happen that being not racist made you racist? It's because this is the crap that Hollywood pushes on us."
"The Daily Show is turning people trans" is an argument that I never thought I would hear and yet here we are. The median viewership age of the Daily Show in 2024 is 63 years old by the way so this argument makes even less sense in this day and age.
Dave plays another Daily Show clip. This time it's one of the guest hosts talking about migrants.
15:54, Dave Rubin: "Illegal people are here illegally. Even if there are jobs for them then what you do is you have them come legally and you figure it out."
Except that the pathways to legal immigration are borderline impossible to fulfill. If Dave is saying that we should loosen those pathways, I agree. But that's not what he's saying so this is just him being an obtuse idiot.
Dave does an ad for Tax Network USA and then he expands on his broader point.
18:10, Dave Rubin: "What I'm trying to lay out to you, and that's all well and good, is that all the ideas that we just talked about there are the things that get into the culture and you wonder why everything is wrong, why our politicians suck, why we don't know up is down and up is up and down is down and all these things."
Dave Rubin: Master Orator strikes again.
"Up is down and up is up and down is down", truly profound stuff right there. Seriously, who the hell watches this unironically?! How does this guy have 2.14M subscribers?! At least guys like Ben Shapiro have certain airs around them that make them seem like intellectuals to people who don't know any better.
18:25, Dave Rubin: "But now I want to drive this a little further into the cultural piece of this because Law & Order where a white woman is raped by a black man but doesn't want him to go to jail. Take a look at this."
Dave then plays the clip from Law & Order. Again, this a ridiculously stupid thing to talk about, especially since Dick Wolf seems like a pretty conservative guy from what I can tell.
19:40, Dave Rubin: "Could we do a road trip after the show? Would you guys be interested in doing a road trip after the show? Drive cross-country, go to Hollywood, bomb the place?"
Law & Order has been filmed in New York for a million years.
Also, the episode ends with the rape victim testifying against the rapist so this whole story is a complete load of nothing even if we follow the parameters that Dave laid out.
20:11, Dave Rubin: "The messaging that they are sending to the brains of young people and I guess middle age people who watch Law & Order, everything is freaking backwards. They have taken art and made it activism."
Does....does Dave not realize that art and film has been a form of activism since its inception. Also, I love how he realized in the middle of his sentence that young people tend not to watch Law & Order and threw that "middle aged people" in there at the last second. Nice save.
Dave talks about the Disney Snow White remake. This is such an insanely old story. Ben Shapiro even announced a "competitor" version that will be hosted on the Daily Wire what feels like a century ago. Old news and an immediate skip.
21:21, Dave Rubin: "I do wanna back up for just a second. I don't condone or call for terrorism in Hollywood or anywhere else. I didn't mean bomb the place, I meant like glitterbomb it, you know what I mean? Just go there and pour glitter all over these people, that is what I meant. Lets be clear about that because Media Matters I'm sure is watching every moment of this 'Rubin just called to bomb Hollywood.'"
I've got bad news for Dave, he's not even important enough to get clipped by Media Matters. He's been mentioned by them in passing but the last time he got clipped was February of 2023. Really the only people criticizing him are a Twitter account called "Dave Rubin Clips" on Twitter, his own subreddit, and me.
Dave plays a clip from SNL. He does an ad for the Wellness Company, it's the same company that makes those emergency kits that Charlie Kirk was hawking in our last episode.
Now, its time to get serious. Dave wants to talk about the news...it involves playing more stupid freaking clips. He plays an MSNBC clip and here are his thoughts.
26:11, Dave Rubin: "Ok, I'm only showing you that because these people that they put on there, they just offer them the red meat. And of course their kind of brain damaged progressive audience eats it up."
"And then I play a clip of it so that my audience can eat up my commentary on it"
Also, the brain damaged comment was stupid as all hell. Anyway, Trump lost the defamation suit against E. Jean Carroll and Dave comments on it the only way he can...by commenting on a clip he plays from The View.
28:13, Dave Rubin: "It really, it's so horrible. And watching the women applaud. If they all felt like this woman really got raped, again rape is pretty bad, they wouldn't be celebrating today, right? Like, it wouldn't be a day of celebration. It would be kind of a somber like, 'Oh there was a verdict in the defamation thing related to the rape and Donald Trumps gonna have to pay up.' But they know it's all bullshit, it's all a show."
"Woah, a rape victim celebrating finally getting justice?! That makes no sense!"
This argument makes absolutely zero sense. Imagine if you got raped and the court forces your rapist to pay you millions of dollars. You'd be pretty damn happy. Does Dave think that after you get raped you are incapable of feeling anything outside of sadness?! And what's more, if you manage to score a win against your rapist you are still going to be sad.
Lets play a game. Do you think that Dave is going to;
A): Offer insightful and nuanced commentary on the verdict that considers the evidence and leads to an informed conclusion.
B): Play another stupid clip and then say something stupid.
The answer is A....just kidding! This is Dave Rubin we're talking about, of course it's going to be B! Dave rolls a CNN clip and mumbles about some stupid shit.
30:20, Dave Rubin: "If she got raped, which Donald Trump was not convicted of, would you want to make a show of all of this?"
The guy was extremely wealthy and that was before he became president. She's celebrating getting a form of justice against an extremely powerful adversary.
Also, Trump was found liable of sexually abusing Carroll which is commonly understood as rape. So he didn't even get that part right. Again, laziness.
Dave comments on a joke Carroll made to Rachel Maddow that she would "buy her a penthouse". It was a joke and apparently Dave is pissed about it. Whatever. Dave plays more clips of Carroll and then plays a Megyn Kelly clip. Again, letting others make his arguments for him.
35:16, Dave Rubin: "This is why Megyn is just so consistently great. I don't know what happened, you don't know what happened, Megyn Kelly doesn't know what happened."
So the bar for trusting a rape victim is if you know for sure what happened? That's ridiculous! Plus the evidence was clearly compelling enough that Trump was found liable for sexual abuse.
Also, wasn't the theme for today supposed to be about WW3? "Cooler heads shall prevail" and all that?
37:03, Dave Rubin: "But now I wanna connect that to something that's happening in the world and show you Trump at his absolute best. Because these are the moments that we could use a real leader in this country and I think he has an interesting opportunity. And as I've been telling you for the last two weeks, I wanna nudge him to be the best Donald Trump if possible."
Oh yeah, that's gonna happen. I can just see Trump now;
"I was gonna make this decision but Dave Rubin said that would be a bad idea! Guess I'm not gonna do that!"
Anyway, Dave's next story is about the drone-strike in Jordan that took the lives of 3 US soldiers. He reads some stuff from the Daily Wires website (and here I thought he was going to play a clip of Ben Shapiro, he's evolving!) and then launches into his take;
38:44, Dave Rubin: "So now you might be wondering 'Dave, what does this have to do with the E. Jean Carroll thing?' Well, Donald Trump issued a statement on this and I think he nailed it."
Dave reads out a Donald Trump post that he very clearly didn't write (not enough random all caps). Again, Dave can't really make content of his own capably and just relies on everybody else to do the heavy lifting. Also, I love how quickly he switched over from being a Ronnie D simp to being a MAGA moron. Those boots need a lickin'!
40:20, Dave Rubin: "Look, I don't know if Donald Trump wrote that himself. It's obviously irrelevant, they have speechwriters and everything else."
It's relevant when you spent the past four minutes hyping this post up as "the Trump we need" and "Trump at his absolute best". If Trump didn't write it then it isn't Trump. Unless you are saying that Trump is at his best when he isn't in control, in which case me and Dave might have more common ground than I thought.
40:26, Dave Rubin: "But the clarity, the moral clarity, 'peace through strength'. The reality of the fact that three, four years ago, when Donald Trump was still president, especially pre-COVID, that the world was peaceful and Middle East peace deals were being signed left and right. The Iranians were doing absolutely nothing."
It may have seemed more peaceful compared to right now but it's important to remember that the conflict between Israel and Palestine has been going on for way longer than October 7th. The Abraham Accords, which I assume is what Dave is talking about when he mentions about peace deals, was brokered between countries that weren't engaged in conflict and did nothing to impact Israel and Palestine. Also, nothing happened with Iran? Remember the assassination of General Suleimani that nearly pushed the US and Iran to the brink of war? That certainly didn't help peace in Iran.
41:30, Dave Rubin: "The first thing that Donald Trump did when he got into office was drop the mother of all bombs, the MOAB, the mother of all bombs, dropped it. People didn't even know why he dropped it but it made it seem like he was kinda crazy so don't mess with this guy."
So Dave's brilliant foreign policy strategy is acting like a complete lunatic?
41:43, Dave Rubin: "He killed Suleimani, right? And everyone was like 'this is gonna start World War Three', actually it caused Iran to not do much of anything while he was president."
The reason we are seeing so much action from Iran is because of Israel/Palestine, a conflict which finally boiled over after decades. Blaming Irans increased action on Biden is stupid.
Again, I don't think Biden is faultless. His continued funding of the genocide in Palestine is awful and I fundamentally disagree with it. But criticizing him for stupid made up reasons is well...stupid.
Conclusion:
Ok, so Dave playing a lot of clips and not adding a lot of original ideas to his commentary took me off guard the last time that I talked about him but this time I was ready for it. This episode didn't break a lot of new ground but I felt that it would be a good opportunity to talk about something about Dave that needs to be said and it's that his content is so deeply lazy.
Think about it. Your average Dave Rubin episode is just him playing television clips completely out of context and then saying a two second conservative culture war related soundbite after it. Dave Rubin basically gets mad at TV for a living.
Even when he's trying to make an argument, he just mumbles something that doesn't really make any sense and then lets someone more articulate like Megyn Kelly pick up the pieces. It's to the point where I would be willing to wager that a good 50% of his show is just clips of other people talking.
This is because Dave Rubin is a grifter who doesn't really bring any new ideas to the table outside of "I'm gay and I'm also conservative". I feel like a big part of him realizes that when he talks for long periods of time he usually ends up making a fool of himself.
And it's not just the clips either, he barely researches what he's talking about. Take for example, the Daily Show coverage. With a five second Google search I knew more about the story than Dave did and as a result was able to point out his inaccuracies and make him look like a complete idiot. Same thing with him not realizing that Trump was found liable for sexual abuse. This is basic shit that you need to know when you are trying to act like the authority on a subject. But Dave doesn't even look into it because he's too busy clipping NBC and being deeply lazy.
Anyway, cheers and I'll see you in the next one.

Granada TV Series Review: "The Empty House" (S03, E01)
And I'm back, after a most enjoyable Holy Week and Easter Sunday! Speaking of "resurrection"...
Sherlock Holmes is back for the second series from Granada TV, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, starring Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes and Edward Hardwicke taking over the role of Dr. John Watson from the inimitable David Burke. I'm sure Sherlockians weren't the only viewers who knew what was coming up in this pivotal episode, and adaptation of "The Empty House." There are no surprises here, especially when the series has the word "Return" right in its title!
Other than the slight detail of giving Watson a more active role in the case of the murder of Ronald Adair, the episode follows the original source material very closely. After an opening sequence that is a bit slow, dramatically speaking, we are treated to Holmes's surprise appearance in Watson's office, as he suddenly transforms from the old book seller into the great detective, causing Watson to faint "for the first and the last time in my life," as Watson puts it in the story. For me (and no doubt, for most viewers) this reunion scene was the main source of enjoyment. Much of the story is told in flashbacks, as Holmes relates what really happened at the Reichenbach Falls. Indeed, if one looks very closely, one can see that all the wide shots of Watson searching in vain for his friend are actually shots of David Burke playing the role in the previous season.
There's a very brief but very emotionally stirring moment during the flashback, when Jeremy Brett as Holmes just begins to shout out Watson's name, but immediately stops himself. It's a beautiful little detail that shows the deep fondness Holmes feels for his friend. Indeed, Watson's response to hearing that Holmes has kept the secret of his survival for THREE YEARS is remarkably gentle. It wouldn't be any stain on Watson's character if he had been just a bit angrier. However, Edward Hardwicke does show a bit of sadness, as he tells Holmes that he believes he could have been at least as deserving of Sherlock's confidence as his brother Mycroft.
Concerning Edward Hardwicke, he really did do a fine job at stepping into a role that had been played so capably by David Burke. Perhaps because Brett was already so comfortable in the role of Holmes, Hardwicke was able to make the transition into Watson's role as smoothly as possible. I still prefer Burke just a bit, but it will be interesting to watch the process of Hardwicke bringing his own skill set into the production. Certainly, by the end of the Granada series, Hardwicke was able to play Watson in a far greater number of adventures than his predecessor.
While it wasn't the most exciting episode I've seen thus far, "The Empty House" was a perfectly respectable way to begin the next phase of the Granada productions. And as I've mentioned, the joy of watching the Holmes/Watson duo resume their partnership was definitely worth the time I spent watching. Enjoy watching the YouTube video shared below! Once again, the game is afoot!

Hey, opening ships was such a fun idea! I was wondering if I could have get a ship with a male character? To start off I’m short, around 5’1 with brown hair and brown eyes. Currently, I am in university where I am double majoring in government and journalism. I want to a career related to politics like writing about current events. I love to spend time with other people and just talk. Despite this I’m highly insecure that I talk too much and come off annoying but I try to deflect with humor. I like to have a ring or something to fidget with when I get anxious. For hobbies I love reading, watching tv shows, and watching videos on YouTube. My favorite book is Normal People by Sally Rooney and my favorite show besides Succession is The Good Place or Arrested Development. I enjoy long form (over an hour) content on YouTube but dislike watching movies. My favorite music artist is Taylor Swift and I primarily listen to her. But my second favorite artist is probably Joji. I also enjoy things some would consider nerdy like Star Wars and Harry Potter (I’m a Hufflepuff). When I get excited or passionate about something I begin to ramble so it would mean a lot to have someone to listen. I crave domestically but I’m not sure I would enjoy it because I like things to remain interesting. I’m sorry that this is so long. Thanks in advance :)
Hi my love! I ship you with: Roman Roy!!!
He loves your height. Roman is a pretty short guy, so having someone who is shorter than him makes him feel like he can protect you, like he can become your human shield if need be. It might not be your favorite thing in the world, but he really does think you're adorable. Plus, he has so many unused jokes it's insane. It's like he's been waiting for this moment his entire life. They get a little tired after a while, but he finds them absolutely hilarious. He also loves how driven you are. You study hard, you apply yourself, you work incredibly hard all towards a future goal. Especially in politics, it's not easy. He admires that. Roman never really had to work hard, it was all handed to him, like the rest of his siblings. Seeing you be so dedicated, so passionate, it gives him a new appreciation for what he's got and for how far you've gotten.
You love his emotions. You know he uses humor as a defensive tool, to shield himself from actually feeling what he's feeling. Whatever he might be joking about, you have a heart to heart with him when it's just you two. It's there, with you, that he can let himself fall apart, unravel. He feels for everyone around him, especially his father. It almost kills him when his father is angry or disappointed in him, something that's been ongoing his entire life. Despite what he wants others to think, Roman feels deeply about everything. He just wants to get away from it all, but is dragged back in every time. You're the one he turns to when it's too much, when he needs a shoulder to cry on.
Your relationship is complex. Gaining Roman's trust in the beginning is very difficult. It takes a long time to go from friends to something more, and even then you have to be patient for him to realize yes, you actually do love him. That it isn't some sort of trick or sick joke. No one has ever wanted to be in his company, to share a relationship with him, not in the way you do. He needs a lot of reassurance in your relationship and it's not easy to convince him that you're happy with him, that you're not playing a trick on him. He's been told his whole life that he's an inconvenience, that there's something wrong with him, that he's not deserving of love. You have to show him that none of what he has been told and believes is true.
Your first date isn't actually a date, rather you're set to interview Logan about ATN and Roman is sent to babysit you while he got ready. He makes you laugh a lot and even compliments you on your laugh. It makes him blush that you're so giggly. He finds you attractive from the start, but knows what kind of trouble he could get in coming on too strong. You end up talking for a long time, promising this is all off the record. By the end he's asked you out to dinner and has your number in his phone.
Relationship Headcanon: Roman loves to listen to you ramble. About anything and everything, it doesn't matter. The sound of your voice is soothing to him and he can't help but get excited when you're excited. You talk about the music you love, the books you've read with all the plots and characters, whatever you're into at the moment. You apologize after, realizing how long you've been going on about the same things, but he won't hear it. He loves you and all your interests. He considers himself the luckiest man to be able to hear about it.
Hope you like it! 💜💜💜

Ramadhan's over with my rants of Moon Knight!
...yeah i could make the title a bit more sense but I just want to release my thoughts so I could move on to something in peace.
.
Okay, where do I start? Oh yeah, I genuinely don't know a damn thing about this series. I watched a little clip last year when it was aired on my television—that bathroom scene—and instantly pinned to my brain for 'need to watch' list. But shamefully, either I forgot or didn't have much time to do so.
I dunno I am a bit tired to watch mcu related shows after endgame. No, scratch that, spiderman: FFH(because TASM casts were back). I usually watched TV shows in jumbled episodes and then I moved on. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it, but most of them didn't get my interest (I'm a fan of Hawkeye but didn't managed to finished it) and the last two years was a bit hectic for my college.
Gladly, this year I have more free time during Eid's Holiday so I finally take my time to watch and ... oh boy i didn't regret a single of it.
It almost felt like a nostalgic trip to the first Iron-man. Fresh from any cameos within mcu in which I surprisingly late to notice this after the show. Saving the budget for their own show is more important than forcing to add any related mcu cameos into the series. It is brave and clever decision imo.
Also I love this kind of show, showcasing multiple alter-egos of the person is one my fav theme. One of my fav shows were 'Split' and 'Do No Harm'. There's also the Iconic story of 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'. I also watched the documentary with one of them is 'The Monster Inside: The 24 Faces of Billy Milligan' from netflix.
The way media portraying DID in my view usually divided into 2 ver:
- Either Battling each alters in which who owns the body till the end.
- Or chattering each other like people with schizophrenia.
In which I don't know if it's well portrayed enough but most analysis video from phycologist expert youtubers usually hate the way media showed it...until moon knight, like for example this and that.
I myself once suffered as an autism with schizophrenia that almost having the same experience like Steven did the whole time. It was so bad that my mother actually invited me to the phycologist and did ruqyah method(a soul cleansing method by muslim community). So I kinda have a basic knowledge with that disorder.
ehem.
Huge kudos to Oscar Isaac playing his characters so flawlessly. And again I regret knowing him later after I watched the credits on the last episode because of my stereotype of him with his beard lmaoo XD
Goddamn his acting is superb! The way he differentiates his eye movements and body languages between Marc, Steven, even with Khonsu for a little time was really fascinating to watch. Look him in the eye at the moment and he could show you which alter he's doing without speak.
Like for real, I genuinely don't know about his alters let alone the third one at the mid-scene credits. My first initial thoughts was: "Huh... a new actor I guess...?"
....
*check goggle
*check tumblr
...
"HOLY SHIT THAT'S OSCAR TOO???!!!" O.o
Ugh I couldn't remember how many times I rewind in each scene, frame by frame. Always interesting to analyze what makes them distinguished between each other and learn something new every day. :D
Interestingly, May Calamawy should get the same praise tho. Their chemistry as a power couple developed beautifully well throughout the series. Being able to represent well that there will be a person who actually understand and help unstable person in need is fairly rare these days. Therefor, when she actually got her power, it's felt so rewarded. Also can we talk how good she acted that specific scene in ep 6?? :3
Ethan Hawke performance as a cult leader is also perfect. If Oscar's strongest suit was his face language, Hawke's strongest suit will be his speaking technique. You can almost indulged by his voice into his cult and It's scary lol.
somehow reminds me of Ralph Fiennes' perfomance of 'The Menu'
The visual effects...hm...might be not the best tbf. And I think this is one the series who has less vfx's scene. I can see they trying to maximizing their budget and focusing on what they need to add, and I think it's fair. I always love Oscar's summoned the suit moment(oh the details with the eyes...) and the gods really nice to look at.
Oh I forgot, kudos to Mohammed Diab showcasing a proper panoramic scenes of Egypt. Yes, finally! Less miserable yellow sand place but more of a beautiful dessert country for once. In fact it mostly built city within Cairo for the movie purpose speak a whole story. The crew knew exactly with their job and I loved every single of it(a bit sad they didn't get the permission to shoot in that country but I understand why).
Of course, not all of episodes are perfect, ep 3 and 6 are arguably the least one(whichever you might prefer the most). For me I choose the third one. Even though ep 6 is the shortest, that episode served it goal from the start. Where as ep 3, ...I dunno I kinda has love and hate relationship with it(?). It has my personal fav credits music, one of Marc & Steven's memorable moments. But...somehow the overall story and pacing are... not good. This is more like a filler episode...
I guess they wanted to use Gaspard Ulliel for future, but an unexpected sudden shift impacted the whole thing. I cannot blame them anyway so I'm genuinely fine with those minuses(RIP to the man btw. I love his acting in that episode)
But that's just me. I'm no expert, just a girl with opinions :/
The fight scenes were good though. Not much but when they did, they did right.
In back of my mind they will add those for the 2nd season. Clearly and brutally(like c'mon, the amount of blood from ep 1 yet slowly decreased until ep 6...surely they must be doing it on purpose, don't they?)
But nonetheless I can wait. As long as they confirmed with the tag 'season finale' and phase 5 road map.
Yeah I can wait :D
.
.
PS : I just don't get people thought Marc letting Harrow free is lazy writing or another usual hero antics 'that's the hero thing to do with mcu villain'.
Like I get it, at first I was surprised at that moment. But the second after he said, "Do it yourself" it just make sense. First and foremost, Marc's goal from the start of the series is to be free. Period.
He just didn't want to do that under Khonsu. Being just another slaver. Not only because Layla's reassurance imo.
Well I got satisfied in the end. Marc's vengeance was already been done by Jake and he's the perfect person to do that.
So it's still a win-win.
#moon knight#non smap / sonic things i want to rant about#huh... it's already 13th day of syawal and i post this now#I'm not that active on tumblr so bare with me#I don't want to speculate#I'm just a casual enthusiast who watched for some refreshment.#but i hope I want to see Jake's fight scene#or maybe Steven's brilliant negotiating skill i guess 😅

The answer is simple, friend.
Not everything is meant for you.
This game is for people who enjoy Naughty Dog games.
It is meant for the 30,000+ folks in the comments saying the protagonist is actually super hot.
For people who like science fiction action stories—especially the Alien movies with a dash of Furiosa.
And for people who enjoy 80s nostalgia.
There are a lot of people who genuinely are interested in this game. I don't know how you can look at the comments on this post and not realize that.
And I don't understand why you care if a game isn't specifically targeting your sensibilities. You can either play a different game or give it a chance. It does not have to be this big of a deal.
You are grossly overestimating the number of people that A.) find the protagonist unattractive and B.) exclusively give that consideration when watching movies or shows or games.
You know nothing about this game. I've seen good trailers for bad games and bad trailers for good games. It could be shit. It could be fantastic.
I personally do not find the protagonist attractive. I like playing with hair so a buzz cut isn't my cup of tea. (But I could also imagine myself getting over that if the person had other qualities I liked.) But the buzz cut bears no consideration on whether I am interested in the game. I think she seems interesting. I am intrigued by her story. And since I really enjoyed The Last of Us, I am hopeful it will have a narrative of that quality.
People like different shit.
And it is a very good thing that people like different shit.
If we all liked the same things, life would actually get super boring. And we'd all be fighting over the same small group of people to pair with.
If you just said, "Hey, this isn't for me" and moved the fuck on like most people, this would not even be a necessary conversation. But this weird need to prove that your opinion is the only valid opinion and that AAA games *must* cater to you is really frustrating.
You showed examples of things you like. Things that represented what you are interested in and had people that you were attracted to and probably people that represented you.
Not everyone has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to representation. My best friend will watch some of the shittiest content just because it has a lesbian storyline. Because sometimes she just needs to see something that she can relate to. That tells stories similar to her own. And I always thought it sucked that there weren't more high quality attempts to tell those kinds of stories. Firstly, so she has quality representation, but also because I like seeing stories about people different from me. Learning more about each other's differences is such a positive thing.
I also remember talking to a guy who runs a nerdy Mariachi YouTube channel called Mariachi Entertainment System. He arranges video game and movie music to fit a Mexican mariachi style. And his music is fun and beautiful and different. (And if I weren't open to different experiences, I would have never listened to his music and stayed in my late 90s Alternative rut forever.) He was telling me how much he loved the movie Scarface. As a teen, he and his brothers would always gather around the TV when it came on cable. They loved the movie because it featured someone from Cuba. He was so desperate to see something even marginally representative of himself that an Italian actor playing a Cuban was mind-blowing to him.
The bar was so low back then. I just thought that was sad. He deserved stories too. High quality "AAA" stories that weren't just Mexican adjacent.
And now, finally, more groups are seeing more content that represents them. They finally get to feel what you have felt countless times in the media you consume. And instead of being happy for them, instead of enjoying other people's stories and perspectives and interests and finding it fascinating, you have said... WHAT ABOUT ME?
You are like a child who can't share at the playground. And you need to grow the fuck up.
The only thing that matters...
Is the story good? Is it a fun experience?
If Naughty Dog accomplishes those two things, the game will do well.
You may think "millions of people" think like you, but I'm positive that those criteria are what the vast majority of people care about more than anything else. "Millions of people" can easily be a minority opinion in this crowded world.
Being chronically online skews what opinions you think are most popular.
If you only hung around in certain toxic online groups, it is easy to think The Last of Us games were terrible. But the second game sold 10 million copies. The HBO series is incredibly loved and popular. I know quite a few people who say it is their favorite series.
Who are you to say their experiences don't matter?
Who are you to tell them they shouldn't enjoy those games?
People like different shit.
Find the shit you like and stop bothering me.
I made this same joke in my head with Sonic but Crash Bandicoot is the superior joke.
