Funds for Haiti and Haitian Americans
A Haitian American woman with long Covid and her daughter with cancer have both been struggling to raise funds that would help them during their illnesses. Both of them live in the Midwest, which is where a lot of the most recent fear mongering has been centered.
COJEHA is a Haitian organization that provides financial support for youth, teaches agricultural skills, helps ensure children attend school, and teaches other soft life skills. They're working on building a farm with fish and vegetable crops where teaching occurs, which will also increase local access to fresh food.
P4H Global is the organization that has been working on building the canal connected to the Massacre River, another agricultural project. They have also been working to support education in Haiti, with both teachers and students.
The Haitian Community Center in Springfield, Ohio. Springfield's food bank, community health center, and a local Catholic organization that provides aid are also accepting donations.
Richard Pierrin is a journalist who has had to flee Haiti and is trying to get a visa that will allow him to work, and that doesn't end after 3 months.
Marc Henry and his family have been dealing with food insecurity for months, and are trying to get funds so they can eat, as well as supplies like livestock and fishing equipment so they can sustain themselves even after the fundraiser is done. They're close to their goal.
An elderly couple's home was damaged multiple times over the last few years and they are trying to raise funds to finish construction. They are also very close to their goal.
A fundraiser for children in Jacmel to provide food, water, and clothes.
A fund for several families to secure plane tickets out of the country
OTRAH is an organization that helps trans Haitians and wants to expand their services to combat HIV. They don't have a gofundme, instead donations are discussed over email.
There is also this thread of Haitian gofundmes which updates fairly regularly
This document explaining the leadup to where we are now also names some organizations that could use financial support

average United States contains 1000s of pet tigers in backyards" factoid actualy [sic] just statistical error. average person has 0 tigers on property. Activist Georg, who lives the U.S. Capitol & makes up over 10,000 each day, has purposefully been spreading disinformation adn [sic] should not have been counted
I have a big mad today, folks. It's a really frustrating one, because years worth of work has been validated... but the reason for that fucking sucks.
For almost a decade, I've been trying to fact-check the claim that there "are 10,000 to 20,000 pet tigers/big cats in backyards in the United States." I talked to zoo, sanctuary, and private cat people; I looked at legislation, regulation, attack/death/escape incident rates; I read everything I could get my hands on. None of it made sense. None of it lined up. I couldn't find data supporting anything like the population of pet cats being alleged to exist. Some of you might remember the series I published on those findings from 2018 or so under the hashtag #CrouchingTigerHiddenData. I've continued to work on it in the six years since, including publishing a peer reviewed study that counted all the non-pet big cats in the US (because even though they're regulated, apparently nobody bothered to keep track of those either).
I spent years of my life obsessing over that statistic because it was being used to push for new federal legislation that, while well intentioned, contained language that would, and has, created real problems for ethical facilities that have big cats. I wrote a comprehensive - 35 page! - analysis of the issues with the then-current version of the Big Cat Public Safety Act in 2020. When the bill was first introduced to Congress in 2013, a lot of groups promoted it by fear mongering: there's so many pet tigers! they could be hidden around every corner! they could escape and attack you! they could come out of nowhere and eat your children!! Tiger King exposed the masses to the idea of "thousands of abused backyard big cats": as a result the messaging around the bill shifted to being welfare-focused, and the law passed in 2022.
The Big Cat Public Safety Act created a registry, and anyone who owned a private cat and wanted to keep it had to join. If they did, they could keep the animal until it passed, as long as they followed certain strictures (no getting more, no public contact, etc). Don’t register and get caught? Cat is seized and major punishment for you. Registering is therefore highly incentivized. That registry closed in June of 2023, and you can now get that registration data via a Freedom of Information Act request.
Guess how many pet big cats were registered in the whole country?
97.
Not tens of thousands. Not thousands. Not even triple digits. 97.
And that isn't even the right number! Ten USDA licensed facilities registered erroneously. That accounts for 55 of 97 animals. Which leaves us with 42 pet big cats, of all species, in the entire country.
Now, I know that not everyone may have registered. There's probably someone living deep in the woods somewhere with their illegal pet cougar, and there's been at least one random person in Texas arrested for trying to sell a cub since the law passed. But - and here's the big thing - even if there are ten times as many hidden cats than people who registered them - that's nowhere near ten thousand animals. Obviously, I had some questions.
Guess what? Turns out, this is because it was never real. That huge number never had data behind it, wasn't likely to be accurate, and the advocacy groups using that statistic to fearmonger and drive their agenda knew it... and didn't see a problem with that.
Allow me to introduce you to an article published last week.
This article is good. (Full disclose, I'm quoted in it). It's comprehensive and fairly written, and they did their due diligence reporting and fact-checking the piece. They talked to a lot of people on all sides of the story.
But thing that really gets me?
Multiple representatives from major advocacy organizations who worked on the Big Cat Publix Safety Act told the reporter that they knew the statistics they were quoting weren't real. And that they don't care. The end justifies the means, the good guys won over the bad guys, that's just how lobbying works after all. They're so blase about it, it makes my stomach hurt. Let me pull some excerpts from the quotes.
"Whatever the true number, nearly everyone in the debate acknowledges a disparity between the actual census and the figures cited by lawmakers. “The 20,000 number is not real,” said Bill Nimmo, founder of Tigers in America. (...) For his part, Nimmo at Tigers in America sees the exaggerated figure as part of the political process. Prior to the passage of the bill, he said, businesses that exhibited and bred big cats juiced the numbers, too. (...) “I’m not justifying the hyperbolic 20,000,” Nimmo said. “In the world of comparing hyperbole, the good guys won this one.”
"Michelle Sinnott, director and counsel for captive animal law enforcement at the PETA Foundation, emphasized that the law accomplished what it was set out to do. (...) Specific numbers are not what really matter, she said: “Whether there’s one big cat in a private home or whether there’s 10,000 big cats in a private home, the underlying problem of industry is still there.”"
I have no problem with a law ending the private ownership of big cats, and with ending cub petting practices. What I do have a problem with is that these organizations purposefully spread disinformation for years in order to push for it. By their own admission, they repeatedly and intentionally promoted false statistics within Congress. For a decade.
No wonder it never made sense. No wonder no matter where I looked, I couldn't figure out how any of these groups got those numbers, why there was never any data to back any of the claims up, why everything I learned seemed to actively contradict it. It was never real. These people decided the truth didn't matter. They knew they had no proof, couldn't verify their shocking numbers... and they decided that was fine, if it achieved the end they wanted.
So members of the public - probably like you, reading this - and legislators who care about big cats and want to see legislation exist to protect them? They got played, got fed false information through a TV show designed to tug at heartstrings, and it got a law through Congress that's causing real problems for ethical captive big cat management. The 20,000 pet cat number was too sexy - too much of a crisis - for anyone to want to look past it and check that the language of the law wouldn't mess things up up for good zoos and sanctuaries. Whoops! At least the "bad guys" lost, right? (The problems are covered somewhat in the article linked, and I'll go into more details in a future post. You can also read my analysis from 2020, linked up top.)
Now, I know. Something something something facts don't matter this much in our post-truth era, stop caring so much, that's just how politics work, etc. I’m sorry, but no. Absolutely not.
Laws that will impact the welfare of living animals must be crafted carefully, thoughtfully, and precisely in order to ensure they achieve their goals without accidental negative impacts. We have a duty of care to ensure that. And in this case, the law also impacts reservoir populations for critically endangered species! We can't get those back if we mess them up. So maybe, just maybe, if legislators hadn't been so focused on all those alleged pet cats, the bill could have been written narrowly and precisely.
But the minutiae of regulatory impacts aren't sexy, and tiger abuse and TV shows about terrible people are. We all got misled, and now we're here, and the animals in good facilities are already paying for it.
I don't have a conclusion. I'm just mad. The public deserves to know the truth about animal legislation they're voting for, and I hope we all call on our legislators in the future to be far more critical of the data they get fed.

the fact that I see some of y'all posting more about how important it is to vote for Biden than you ever have about Palestine just shows that you fucking "vote blue no matter who" people genuinely don't give a fuck about anyone but yourselves.
you only choose to speak up when YOUR hypothetical rights are threatened. you love to fear monger about how much hypothetically worse it would be under trump than acknowledge the actual atrocities that Biden is committing and condoning every single day. how exactly is he the "lesser" of two evils for?
do any of you actually look at the images coming out of gaza, or are you too fucking ~triggered~ to fully acknowledge other peoples suffering rather than your own. have you seen the video that came out recently of the little boy whose brain is exposed, about to be laid next to his dead family members, only to twitch and seize in his fathers arms as he screams and runs in horror to find a doctor, because his son is alive. his brain is literally falling out of his skull but he is still alive. that is one brief example of the most horrific shit you've ever seen in your life coming out daily for almost a year. how on this earth can you watch that and possibly claim that Biden is in any way shape or form "less" evil.
instead of demanding that the dnc force a different candidate, you're trying to guilt trip people who have actually seen the mutilated bodies of children on their timelines every single day and watched the press briefings of bidens administration denying genocide and defending Israel at the expense of literally everything else for the last 8 months, into voting for a man who supports it 100% and has not and will not be convinced otherwise.
this is where allowing them to push widely unpopular and centrist candidates has gotten us. it didn't work with Hillary in 2016. it BARELY worked in 2020. and hate to break it to you, but its probably not going to work again. so congrats. your "vote blue no matter who" rhetoric has got them thinking that they can push the most right leaning liberals on us and think that we'll vote for them just because they're in a blue tie instead of a red one.
if you care about democracy like you say you do, then the Democrats should be fucking TERRIFIED that you won't vote for them if they don't deliver. not constantly reassured that they can commit literal fucking genocide and still get your votes if they dangle abortion rights over your heads. you realize they see those posts too right? the ones that say "Yes! protest vote in the primary but make sure to actually vote for the guy in the general!!" like. you are literally telling them how performative your activism is.
if every election at this point is the one where democracy is on the line then we are already fucked. if they don't get it through their heads now that we will not support this shit, then every election to come will be between a fascist and a fascist who cares slightly less about whether gay people get married or not. but that's all you care about right? as long as your domestic policy is in your favor then the rest of the world can suffer at your tax dollars.
this isn't about morality voting. this is about recognizing that there is not actually a "lesser" of two evils in this situation, just because you think that the causes that you personally care about will be less affected one way or the other. because what if it was abortion rights? what catholic Joe Biden was firmly against abortion and was threatening to ban it completely and throw anyone getting or giving one in prison for murder. what if it was videos of lgbt people being slaughtered coming out every single day for a year. genuinely fucking ask yourself if you'd still be saying "vote blue no matter who" and that he's the "lesser" of two evils.
vote for whoever the fuck you want. and I do genuinely urge you to vote for the most progressive candidate you can for the house and senate and your local elections. but for the love of god, stop trying to convince people that there is, in any sense of the word, a "Lesser" evil in this situation. stop trying to absolve yourselves of the fact that you are CHOOSING evil. it's genuinely sick.

Genuine question, if you are voting for Biden why not just vote independent? Biden is not going to win regardless. Why not just skip the vote for genocide and vote for someone that actually cares about Palestinians
Because I live in Florida, which is a powerful swing state. Giving my vote to anyone other than the person who has the best chance at beating Trump is throwing it away. If Trump dies, I'll vote someone else. If Biden dies, I'll vote someone else. If it seems like everyone in the world has finally agreed on a unanimous third party vote by november, I'll vote someone else. Anything can happen before then, and my vote isn't set in stone.
Until then, the majority of undecided voters are going to vote Biden. There's a lot more people in Florida who are tired of the Trump train than you think. They're seeing his trials, his lies, and they're tired. There are a lot of students in Florida who are now eligible to vote. 4 years worth of 18 year olds who all have tik tok and are very much against all the bullshit in the world. And they all understand how the electoral college works. They know their votes could turn Florida blue.
America does not run on Popular vote, it runs on the electoral college. This means that every US state gets a certain number of votes out of 538 total. Some states, like Wyoming, get 3 votes. That means that my state, Florida, effectively gets 30 votes out of the 270 needed to win the presidency. But, here's the catch, ALL of those votes can only go to ONE candidate. (There are exceptions in 2 states, Nebraska and Maine.) If Trump gets more votes than any other single candidate in Florida, all 30 votes go to Trump.
It's called a swing state for a reason, because it can swing the race heavily in one candidates favor. Only Texas and Califorina get more votes at 40 and 54, respectively.
If all the Republicans in Florida vote for Trump, but all the Democrats and Independents are voting for people other than the person on the ballot, Trump will still get 30 votes. Even if some Republicans vote Biden, if everyone else is writing different candidates in, when everything is tallied, Trump could still win.
Imagine you have 270 red delicious apples, 200 Green apples, 38 yellow apples, and 30 macintosh apples. There are still more Red Delicious apples than any other kind, so Red Delicious gets the Presidency. Luckily, people in Florida who liked Red Delicious apples last year are getting tired and might pick Green apples instead this time. They are almost guaranteed to not pick a golden or macintosh apple, though.
This is what happened in 2016 that allowed Trump to win when he LOST to Hillary Clinton for the popular vote. More electoral college votes went to Trump than they did to any other person. From person to person, more Americans as a whole voted for Hillary. It's all about where you live physically.
This is the reason why I'm voting for Biden at the moment. If things change, I'll happily change too!
And Obviously I don't support Genocide. My point is that realistically speaking, Trump has flat out said to just "finish them" already, so it's not out there to assume he will push to accelerate this genocide using nuclear retaliation. I'm not trying to fear monger, I'm saying this system is broken, and they're lying to you about how it works in order to take advantage of your ignorance. Whoever gets the most votes win? Not exactly, but if you don't bother to look any closer, you'll never know you were playing a rigged game from the start.
Vote however you need to for your state. But understand where your vote is going. One vote is the difference between 30 and 3 electoral votes.
#long post#ugly election politics#i'll try and keep that tag from now on#also im not perfect so feel free to fact check me on this but I cant afford to vote for who I actually agree with this time.#if you were to ask me whos policies im not repulsed by i couldnt give you an answer. AOC feels like the least scummy but also the least#least experience#maybe she'll officially step up in her birthday. thats when she turns 35 and is eligible for candidacy. idk#4 more months and anything can happen

hey sex witch, you’ve talked a lot about porn addiction on here but I have some other questions if that’s ok.
I go to Christian highschool and we often have discussions about porn addiction.
my teacher says that most addicted people start consuming porn at around 9. And that even seeing one naked person or one porn or whatever on the internet can put you at higher risk of developing an addiction to porn.
does absolutely any of this have a base in science? Or is this all fear mongering and what not?
hi anon,
first of all, I just want to say that I think it rules that you're seeking information outside of what's being taught at your school. learning how to question what you're told and seek out answers from other sources is a really important skill that can be VERY hard to even begin if you aren't given the resources to easily go looking for information, and I think it's great that you're taking the initiative of seeking out other perspectives :)
now, let's break this down: the concept of "porn addiction" is one largely discredited by psychologists. while people can certainly develop maladaptive coping mechanisms around sexuality, porn, and/or masturbation, this isn't strictly the same as addiction, and several studies have found that the people who are most likely to identify themselves as porn addicts are people who harbor religious or cultural shame about sexuality and porn use, rather than people who use porn more than the average person. it is, largely, a matter of perception.
while access to smartphones means that many people first encounter pornography at a young age - the current average age is somewhere between 9 and 13, depending on the study - and that can be confusing to a child who isn't given the proper framework to understand what they're seeing, it's also not a new phenomenon. in my role as a sex educator I also get to talk with a lot of parents about their early sexual experiences, and many of them recall encountering printed pornography as children when they find it in gutters, the woods, the bedroom of parents or friends' parents, or even stowed in farm equipment. these adults tend to remember being intrigued and excited along with a little confused or alarmed by this first brush with sexuality, but crucially it did not define them as people. as evidence by the fact that they've grown up to send their children to queer-friendly, sex positive, nonjudgmental sex ed classes, early exposure to porn did not stop them from growing into curious, thoughtful, and supportive parents who want to encourage healthy attitudes toward sexuality for their children. porn alone does not have the power to determine the direction of someone's life.
just seeing a naked person or pornography on the internet also cannot immediately make you an "addict." as you've already guessed, this is what we call fear mongering, using information in a way that's exaggerated to make people nervous to even engage with a topic. fear mongering about sex is common among adults and education systems that don't want to young people to be curious about their bodies; another common one is "teaching" young people about sexually transmitted infections by only showing them pictures of untreated cases that have become drastic and painful while insisting that no STI can ever be treated, which is definitely not the case. but the facts don't matter; the priority is trying to make sure teenagers are too scared to have sex until they're adults and the school system is no longer responsible for them.
(and it doesn't even work; states with higher rates of abstinence only education are CONSISTENTLY among those with the highest rates of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.)
when presented with absolutist statements like this, it's worth poking holes in the logic. for instance, if seeing any naked figure is bad, what about classical art? do nude marble statues put you at risk of being a porn addict? what about other artistic depictions of nudity? or anatomical illustrations? what about real people just changing clothes in a locker room, or young siblings bathing together? does it not count for people who are nearly or partially nude, like someone wearing a bathing suit or athletic clothes? people changing in a locker room together? what about young children being bathed together? and what about all of those depictions about Jesus on the cross wearing nothing but a loincloth? what's the line between "good" and "bad" nudity, and who's deciding where that line is? can such a line even really exist at all?
the truth is that people are undressed or partially undressed in all kinds of situations, and none of them are a corrosive influence on your brain. just looking at something is not enough to completely rewire your brain and permanently change your behavior. ultimately, you are responsible for your own actions.
I hope this has been a helpful answer, and that you stay curious about what you're being taught.

As promised: emduo-centric royalty AU with sad little child hostage ward Techno I can't stop thinking about.
Techno is the second son of a tiny kingdom. The kingdom is feared far and wide for its military prowess and the production of high-quality weapons. However, a lot of this reputation is hot air. Their numbers are actually small enough that a bigger nation could come and overpower them relatively easily if it really wanted to, and they do not hold any significant trade routes or harbors. It's solely their fearsome reputation that scares people off.
Or it used to scare them off.
Another (much bigger) nation led by King Dante came and took over, using overwhelming forces to their advantage despite their weapons and strategies being subpar. When they were done, Dante allowed the king and queen to keep ruling, but on the unspoken condition that it was actually Dante pulling the strings behind the scenes and every decision goes through him
Dante leaves some of his trusted generals in the higher ranks to ensure an eye is kept on everything, and as an extra insurance, he takes one of the princes with him. Obviously not the heir, that would be a scandal! But the second-born son would do just fine
Dante takes Techno in and to much of the outside world, they presume this is a wardship, as is common between allies.
When in reality, it's more like a semi-polite hostage situation.
Dante uses the military powers he has gained from Techno's country to quickly overthrow a few other surrounding smaller nations by aggressive, militaristic means. His reputation suffers for it, but that doesn't really matter when within a blink of an eye, Dante is ruling over the 'United Nations of Hypixel', one of the biggest countries in the world and thus a significant player on the political stage.
The other countries that remain are of similar huge size and a lot stronger than any of the smaller countries Dante trampled thus far though. And while Dante is greedy, he's not a moron. So he knows that going to war with any of them heedlessly would be a bad idea.
So he changes tactics. He sends delegations, he invites nobles and other royals, and tries to make diplomatic treaties. Maybe there's a little bit of assassination and blackmailing and information laundering and stuff going on too but shhhhh. No need to worry about that, Dante is proving he can play nice.
Techno, eight when he was taken from his home, remains at the court all the while.
To the outside world, he's living a cushy life as a prince. They only see a spoiled little boy who has everything he could ever wish for, lavish clothes and fancy food and servants helping him with whatever he wants. Little do people know that's only the image Dante wants to project, now that he's trying to play nice with other countries. The fine silk and heavy velvet hide the scars and bruises Techno gets from Dante and his generals behind closed doors.
Hell, even from the servants. Dante has made it clear he doesn't care how Techno gets treated by them, as long as they don't inflict permanent damage.
Others wouldn't know that those fancy public appearances are the only times Techno gets to eat proper food, and even then Dante will punish him if he eats too much during them. He can't appear greedy, after all. But Techno has been taught politeness. And how to decline courteously. He's been taught manners.
He's been taught how to obey Dante perfectly, and be a sign to others for Dante's goodwill.
Of course, anybody who would actually bother to investigate this with more than a passing glance could see that Techno is being horribly abused.
The problem is that they don't give it more than a passing glance.
The truth of the matter is that Dante has skewed the narrative enough to make Techno's nation seem like even more of a bloodthirsty, war-mongering one many people already believed it was. And Dante is merely the man who has leashed the feral beast.
They're allies now, and people don't like Dante, but they don't like Techno's family and the nation he came from even more. So even most outsiders coming to the court will avoid Techno when possible, or even regard him with disdain and mistreat him.
Commoners hate him for being royalty and being a symbol of the nation that caused so much war, royals/nobles from other countries hate him for his heritage, Dante and his men just hate him, period.
Techno can't catch a break.
His only hope is to wait until this is over. He's turning twelve in a few weeks. He misses home.
[Dante tells Techno that his parents don't want him back
Dante says that since he has secured his position enough and the game has changed, he doesn't really need a hostage anymore. But he asked Techno's parents, and they said they didn't care to have him back.
They were always rather cold to Techno, would always tell him he was an accident and the only son they needed was Billiam, Techno's older brother. The heir. It saves them the trouble of having to stage an 'accidental death' for Techno down the line, when his existence becomes a threat to the succession rights.
But maybe part of Techno had still been wishing they loved him.
Sometimes, Dante wonders out loud if publicly executing Techno would be a good move for his reputation; especially since people hate Techno's family so much.
If Techno shows fear at the prospect of death, Dante punishes him. So very quickly Techno becomes numb to that too.]
Techno doesn't really have anybody in his corner at this point. Until Phil comes to court.
Phil is the emperor of the Antarctic Empire, a nation far up in the north. The country is harshly cold and rather mountainous. It's also almost entirely self-sufficient, despite the strange climate it manages to completely feed its populace and provide its own resources. It barely trades with the outside world and since the borders are lined by a mountain pass on the south and oceans on all other sides, it doesn't see a lot of travelers. It is, for all intents and purposes, an enigma. Some people rumor it doesn't exist.
The country also manages to stay out of any foreign politics 90% of the time because of its solitude, so having the emperor come out himself for a summons is quite something.
[Dante send the invite not expecting a response. It was more of a formality, honestly. Because not at least addressing the Antarctic Empire would have been worse, in terms of what's polite. And he can't risk catching their ire.
Little does Dante (or anybody else) know, but the Antarctic Empire is very aware of what's going on past their borders, because of a spy network all official documents simply refer to as 'the crows'. So Phil and Kristin have been keeping informed on the fact that somebody was making The Next Big Nation (tm) and that it could spell trouble later. Phil came down to see what's up.]
Phil knows about Techno's nation/family too, through the crows. But Phil also has a very strict policy that boils down to "the crows are little shits and they lie". Or more accurately, Phil knows how to treat secondhand information and always takes it with a grain of salt. That's why when something truly matters, he goes down there himself instead of sending somebody to speak for him like most other royals do.
And thus, Phil is the first one who tries to scrutinize Techno's situation and ends up going "Hey what the fuck! this is not how you treat a child."
He knows the Blade family does not make allies, and that Techno is a hostage. Slowly he starts to befriend the boy, who is extremely reluctant to extend any trust, while also not pissing off Dante or starting a war. It's a work in progress, but Phil is a stubborn bastard.
His original intention is to get Techno back home to his family. Until he finds out the truth of how Techno is treated there too - the proverb 'out of the frying pan, into the fire' comes to mind, perhaps.
That's when Phil goes "free sonboy" and takes Techno home instead.
Slow bonding and healing ensues, naturally <3 (also I'll post a link to my drabble in the replies)

Is it possible to ask for concept of Frank + Julie (DBD) sharing a darling???
Sure! Here's the couple that sucks equally :)
Yandere! Frank + Julie Concept
(The Legion)
Pairing: Platonic/Romantic - Sharing
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Manipulation, Possessive behavior, Violence, Blood, Murder, Controlling behavior, Alcohol mention/Underaged drinking, Coercion, Fear mongering, Forced companionship/relationship (Not specified).
The best pairing I can come up with is before The Fog.
You're in a similar situation to the rest of The Legion.
You find Ormund boring and wish there was something fun to do.
You wanted more friends and things to do.
So you went to one of Julie's parties after being invited, wanting something to pass the time.
That's when you met your new friend group.
At that party you met Julie, Susie, Joey, and Frank.
At first they seemed like your typical teenage rebel group.
Which, of course, made you feel at home when talking to them.
Most of you were around the age of nineteen, fed up with the world.
Although, your angst was certainly much different than the rest.
While you vented your frustrations in small ways like graffiti and maybe petty theft...
People like Frank and Julie preferred things like arson and murder.
Another thing to know about the two...
They're skilled in the art of manipulation.
Something you end up learning relatively soon as you get to know them.
So, I imagine you being part of The Legion is a good way to get you to know the two of them.
Now, while I originally thought Frank would be the worst in this pairing... That isn't entirely true.
While Frank himself enjoys causing trouble and messing with others...
Julie is just as bad of a manipulator as Frank, if not worse if we take her tome into account.
The dynamic I'm getting is this... The two would be so controlling.
It takes peer pressure to a whole other level.
After all, compared to them, you're quite innocent.
More akin to Susie than anything.
But that's okay...
They'll enjoy molding you into the person they want to be.
I do think they'd enjoy an impressionable obsession.
If you aren't, they'll make you.
You may not be into doing vandalism, arson, or even larger theft yet...
But you'll learn with them.
Not like you have much of a choice, right?
Peer pressure is such a dangerous thing.
I feel their pairing/intentions here don't matter much.
In canon the two definitely seem to be dating.
Although, when it comes to their obsession, their intentions with you could go either way.
Maybe they're just really close friends with you... doing everything they can to make you crave their companionship and approval.
You're bored, aren't you?
Don't you want to do something cool?
You want a group to hang out with, right?
So listen to them.
They'd be a similar way if they were trying to drag you into a relationship with them.
The two are so toxic.
Dangling attention and affection over your head like a dog with a treat.
They seem like the type of yanderes that would slowly make you begin to rely on them.
It's small things... just to make you ache for approval.
After all, to join The Legion, you must be having some troubles of your own.
Be that at home or socially...
You're vulnerable.
They prey on that.
It starts with cutting off others around you.
So even if you had good connections...
They'll make you crave them.
The two are possessive, treating you like a toy.
Two cats... one mouse... all in their little game.
You feel so small compared to them.
This friend circle feels more like a trap than anything.
Even more so when they drag you into more dangerous tasks.
By the time you're committing arson and doing robberies... You're in too deep.
After all, how can you leave?
The two no doubt make you feel dependent on them.
What happens if you leave?
Will they follow you?
Will they hurt you?
Will they hurt who you're close to?
These two do horrible things...
Only to act all friendly with you right after.
You could witness them kill a man or rob a store...
Only for Julie to invite you to another party...
Or Frank to suggest you discuss killers with them.
If that doesn't tempt you enough... Frank brings alcohol like a bribe.
To them, there's no way you can leave them by now.
Within months they'll have you dependent on them.
They'll know your biggest secrets, or maybe even frame you for something.
You'll be so scared of what they could do...
You'd follow through with anything they said.
If they told you to help them, you help them.
If they coax you into drinking, you're drinking.
Hell... If they had romantic intentions and invited you to more... intense activities.
You already know the answer.
The two would have you wrapped around their fingers.
Even to the point of when they rob Joey's job he was fired at and they kill a man?
You're right there with them.
The two would make a blood pact with you.
Anything to prevent you from leaving.
If you try to run, they'll give chase and keep their grip firm.
Honestly, you should've turned back when you could.
You should've never gone to that party or skipped school when they asked.
Such thoughts flicker in your mind as you help them bury the body.
The blood is still coating your clothes.
They praised you, said you did well to follow them.
Even as The Fog begins to envelop you, The Entity beckoning...
You don't think you could ever escape them.
When you enter a new realm, you expect to be alone.
But no... Even now, the two are right beside you... and you become a pawn.
Suddenly it isn't just peer pressure anymore...
Perhaps you were always in too deep.

What if releasing Predathos is like releasing wolves back into Yellowstone?
We have all these culturally received stories about wolves being these terrifying monsters who kill anyone who enters the woods and they eat children and kill livestock and pets. So the only way to protect the human world is to exterminate them. so that's what white people did in Europe and North America.
But it turns out that seriously messed up the ecosystem. The deer and elk population "flourished" and then became out of control, destroying the rivers and eating all the food and killing off themselves and everything else. The beavers can't thrive so they don't build dams that the fish and other creatures were using to survive. All that "protection" actually leads to a horrendous amount of harm. Which ultimately extends to the human world as well.
Until environmental conservationists fought to re-release this predator back into the wild. They have to fight against all these negative attitudes and fear mongering. How dare they threaten everything we've built by reintroducing monsters into the world after we worked so hard to banish them? Don't these silly environmental activists understand how bad this will be? How it will ruin everything? They act like they speak for the people and the animals but all bringing back the wolves could possibly do is cause harm. The status quo must be protected. And don't listen to those ranchers who say they would be willing to live with wolves again and protect themselves in other ways. They don't speak for the ranchers because "most" ranchers disagree! It's sabotage all the way done by villains who won't even understand what villains they're being!
But the environmentalists won in the end. A negligible amount of livestock have been killed. Meanwhile the environment flourished. The species the wolves eat became healthier and better controlled. The beavers came back. The rivers became healthier. The fish had safe waters again for better spawning which helped the bears. The aspens and the willows were no longer over-browsed and they bounced back. The ravens had carcasses to eat. Even the beetles did better. Conservation struggles that had been hard fought but intractable for a hundred years started making huge progress.
People knew that wolves were important, that predation was necessary for nature to thrive. But even the best studied people didn't predict just how important the wolves were. Everything was struggling to live because we decided to "protect" it from the "monsters" that hunted them. Unleashing the creatures that were so hungry turned out to be one of the single most important environmental wins. A lesson that's being taken all over the world to bring back other ecosystems we damaged. The things people were so afraid of largely didn't happen. And since we understand the wolves and their behavior more now, humans are safer around them, too. We're learning to cultivate respect instead of fear.
So maybe releasing Predathos and letting them eat or chase off the gods would destroy Exandria as we know it. Maybe Bell's Hells are flirting with danger trying to take them in and control them and it will all end in disaster. Maybe history will remember them as villains. It's unclear if the damage to Molaesmyr was fully due to Ludinus Da'leth's reckless experimental magic or contact with Predathos.
But it's just as likely that unleashing Predathos would be like releasing the wolves back into Yellowstone. The gods killing off the Primordials that were native to Exandria before the gods came could represent the suppression of ecosystems by outsiders who thought they knew better than nature. Who believed they could create something that was better. But in the process have actually been damaging the world. Maybe the world would actually thrive if the gods had a predator to control them when nothing else has.
We don't know. The point is that we don't know. It's a hell of a lot more interesting story to find out than to maintain a status quo that wiped out 2/3rd of life on Exandria and is threatening to do it again. Matt has made it perfectly clear multiple times that this is the end of an age in Exandria. The center cannot hold anymore. As Ashton pointed out, Ludinus only ever thought about how to end things. He never considered what might come next. But something will. Maybe the beavers and the willows will come back when the elk are kept in check.

The post about Tumblr dying is fear mongering.
tbh i dont think talking about an outcome that currently seems inevitable is fear mongering
so. is tumblr going to go down, right now? no! right now, for us users, very little to nothing will change! however, from what we know, they are actively moving staff away from tumblr, with no plans to ever grow that staff back up. as people who know more about tech than me have already said, this means updates will trickle to a stop. bugs and glitches will pile up. without the number of staff to maintain tumblr properly, eventually it will be unable to keep running.
keyword: eventually!
again, that's not right now. we're looking at the future here. so people looking to gather on other sites, to figure out where their communities are moving? they're looking towards that future. they, and i, want to be prepared, and can you blame us? while I was too young for it, I've heard about all the communities that were lost from livejournal. people are trying to prevent that from happening again.
it's not fear mongering to say "because of these actions, the site will eventually cease to run, so we should look to come together as community and have an idea of our next move when tumblr can no longer house us."
theres every chance we still have YEARS of functionality on this site left, even with the staff being cut. and, hey! maybe we'll get lucky. maybe they decide not to do this, or maybe tumblr gets bought out, and is actually able to make a profit without losing a significant portion of its user base. but a site can't run indefinitely without proper staffing.
addendum:
I did the check the blog of the original poster of the screenshot after writing this up. according to him, there seems to be no long term management plan, meaning we likely /would/ be in the holding pattern of "skeleton crew with very little to no additional support" that was already outlined in the screenshot and that people are assuming from it.
#every website will die one day 👍#no ones saying tumblr will go down right this moment but wanting to prepare ahead of time isnt fear mongering#also posts about tumblrs 'death' happen multiple times a year. ill be here till the last day#but im still going to share those posts so everyone can Have Knowledge. big fan of people knowing things#idk man. tldr is just i disagree with you lol#asks#tumblr

Helpful guide to who the fuck the federal Canadian parties are (since Lily hasn't explained them right):
1. The Conservative Party of Canada (Cons): Canada's only true right-wing party-- though, at least before Pierre Poilievre, Americans would have seen them as closer to Democrats than Republicans. They were conservative in the truer form of the phrase-- no spending money ever or doing anything ever sort of Conservative. Because, small government. Neoliberal. Concerned mostly with starving piblically funding resources and tax cuts. This has taken a dramatic change in a very short period. Poilievre is taking the party in a very MAGA direction-- though, he's kind of still in 2016 MAGA because the Overton window in Canada is still more comparatively liberal. With Anerica being on fire right now, that's still very scary. They historically can't hold the PM spot with a minority because they are almost always the contrarians in The House of Commons fighting the rest.
2. The Liberal Party of Canada (Libs): THIS is the moderate vote in Canada (fight me.) Frankly it's hard to define the Lib's real position because they're the "well, I guess I'll vote for them" party. Their constituents are typically a broad range of people who want the government to be *doing something* other than sitting on their hands all day bitching about spending. Their very limpwristed policy and law changes are what make right-wing Americans clutch their pearls and claim Canada's some kind of sicialist hellscape-- which is hilarious, but. Still, most of Canada's best policies DID come from Lib PMs-- though it's kind of a coin toss depending on the party leader. No, Trudeau is not so widely mocked and scorned because he was a bad PM. More so, he campaigned on some pretty radical changes he never ended up enacting, alienating a massive portion of his voter base, and then pissed off even more people with how he handled the trucker convoy. Leftists because he did deal with it quickly enough, right-wingers because he was forced to take drastic action when he did.
3. The National Democratic Party (NDP): The third largest political party in Canada, and the actual party a good portion of liberal voters actually want to vote for (including me.) Contrary to American perception THEY are Canada's one true properly socialist party. Even then, as it stands now anyway, they're still pretty soft-core socialist. Very inoffensive socialism. Giving a shit about worker's rights, remembering First Nations exist, giving a passing thought to how Healthcare and social services can be improved, being half-way decent to immigrants, being nice to the girls and the gays, etc. Lot of fear mongering that letting them have too many seats in government will bankrupt the country-- which is the stupidest sentiment known to the great white north since they've consistently been on the side of labor, but. Jagmeet Singh is the party leader. He's the other politician everyone calls hot. He posts cringe on social media sometimes to try to meme with the gen zs but otherwise he's pretty alright.
4. The Green Party (No nickname for them, just Green Party.): Honestly, people mostly talk about voting for them as a joke-- but someone must be because they have seats in the house so. Really they are the Green Party, they speak for the trees. Nobody ever expects them to win the PM position so they're broader policies haven't ever really been hashed out, but. It is nice to have someone consistently seated in the house arguing for the environment. They may or may not have been the first party I chose to vote for as a 19 year old, drunk at the poles, not happy with any of my options at the time, but you can't prove anything. Elizabeth May is their party leader. I don't even know what she looks like.
5. Bloc Québécois (Bloc): Okay, the existence, purpose and politics of this party is the hardest to explain to non-Canadians because it's tied to a long and complicated Canadian history and the tension between the Anglophones and the Francohones. Lily, the Anglophone she is, called them a "left-wing" party. They are not. They are French Nationalists. They do want an ethno-state in Quebec. But because the Cons are typically aggressively anglophone in their priorities, even with a French party leader, they beef with them more than the Libs. But the Bloc has had big dramatic beef with every party at one point. The TL;DR of how Bloc came to be is; the English oppressed the French way back when, but Quebec joined Canada to be protected by America taking them over, the promise was that anglophone Canada wouldn't try to culturally assimilate then, they sorta kinda didn't keep that promise, francophones kidnapped and killed politicians, big scuffle, martial law was happening for a hot minute-- Bloc has consistently angled for Quebec to succeed from Canada, but they couldn't economically do so so it's a big drama. Being the grandchild of a French Nationalist on one side and a anglophone white supremacist on the other, I am an unholy combination of two diametrically opposed foes and at birth I took a screenshot. Yves-François Blanchet is the current party leader and he's frankly more willing to play ball with other parties than former leaders were in the past.

The user on Reddit who leaked the kiss between Elrond and Galadriel said Sauron and Galadriel will not kiss in the finale. Sauron will flee to Mordor and that is how the season ends.
yada yada yada, isn't it a bit late to try and fear-monger with last week's fake leaks?
First of all, the 2x07 kiss leak didn't originate from reddit and it was never just one person spreading it, in fact several sources on multiple platforms claimed it was going to happen. And when that's the case with spoilers, I've long since learned that they're usually true, no matter how nonsensical they seem. And having now seen it, part of me thinks it was allowed to leak online only because it's so irrelevant.
Secondly, the spoiler about Sauron fleeing as a shadow was confirmed as fake first by someone who actually worked on the show and then by others who've recently seen the last episode! Again, if reliable sources say a leak is fake, then it's definitely fake. So sorry to disappoint you, anon, but they're not going to do a rehash of the S1 finale. And rest assured that Haladriel will not only survive but continue to thrive after the S2 finale, no matter if they kiss or not because their dynamic will still be the beating heart of TROP!
I'm afraid the only thing fleeing to Mordor as a shadow will be the lorebros after this show makes Haladriel canon!
#good try anon but I've actually kept up with the leaks on reddit lmao#and I'm well informed enough to know that the 2x07 kiss and durin iii fighting the balrog have been the only legit leaks#amazon has kept the haladriel finale under lock and key and I think there's got to be a reason for that#there are tons of fake leaks circulating about the haladriel scene and most of them are just made up. very few people know what happens!#haladriel#saurondriel#trop spoilers#asks

Overprotective Part 2
The first post of this story can be found here. The post this story was based off of can be found here.
Your words hit Lucifer like a truck. He grabs your arm, stopping you, and when you turn to yell at him, you pause when you see the visible fear and pain in his expression.
You two are soon joined by Mammon and Beelzebub standing in the doorway, having followed you in your frustration. The two arrive just in time to hear Lucifer ask you "What do you mean you hope you die?"
You didn't really mean it, you were just SO tired. So fucking tired. So done with having every little thing in your life softened and controlled.
Before you can answer, Mammon blurts out "WHAT D'YA MEAN YOU WANNA DIE!?" while Beelzebub quietly stares at you, trying to understand.
Mammon's outburst attracts everyone in the house. It's hard not to hear him.
Soon the brothers are all spilling out the door, and you think you can even see Belphegor somewhere hidden in the background.
You sigh. "… I can't keep doing this thing where you guys control every part of my life. I can barely deal with you controlling ANY part of my life." You shrug Lucifer's grip off your arm, and you finally begin to address the issue head-on.
You look to Levi; "I want to be able to watch sad movies and sad shows. I want to enjoy the angst. I want to be able to cry. It's good! It's healthy! What ISN'T healthy, is avoiding sad things all the time, like they're going to kill me!"
Levi cuts in; "But they COULD kill you!" before quickly getting quiet again, not meaning to talk over you.
You stare at him in frustration and confusion. "… What do you MEAN they can kill me?"
"Humans who watch more sad shows tend to live shorter lives.."
"…" It begins to click for you. But you also have to rectify this misinformation; "Levi, those statistics don't imply causality. If they're even real, they'd imply correlation. People who only watch sad things that are painful probably aren't living very happy lives to begin with. They're probably trying to cope through a tough reality, which would likely be the REAL cause of their shortened lifespan, in conjunction with a HUGE number of other factors."
"…"
"Watching sad shows is good, and can even help with test-running sad scenarios before they happen in a low-stakes environment, which is GOOD for emotional health and wellbeing."
"…"
"If all I ever do is watch sad shows, then yeah, maybe I need help. But that's not the same as watching a few in a rotation of other medias."
Leviathan looks rather embarrassed.
"And you!" You turn your attention towards Asmodeus. "Asmo, you can't keep trying to destress me all the time! Stop giving me creams and tinctures and your new balm of the week! I want to stay up! I want to live a little messy!"
"But those things are GOOD for you! I never push anything on you that I didn't already use myself!"
"That works FOR YOU - It's not going to work for everyone! It makes my stress WORSE when I have to adhere to your strict regimen! It's exhausting and frustrating, and it takes any joy I got out of sharing those bonding moments with you, and sucks the life out of it!"
Asmodeus realizes he never considered that you weren't enjoying being doted on. He LOVES being doted on, so he thought you would want the same thing. Looking at you now though, and realizing his behavior contributed to this stress and this problem that's coming to a head now, he feels… Not great.
As Asmodeus gets quiet, you look to Satan, who is surprised. "Satan, I get that you're worried about my health, but when you treat me like I'm not doing enough? It's so fucking insulting. Telling me to take care of my health like I'm not already doing that. Telling me the statistics of illnesses and injuries isn't useful, it's fear-mongering at best."
"I just thought that someone in this house should be wary of what can befall a human - You're all so delicate."
"But when you treat me like I'm paper, all I want to do is just tear myself apart! If I can't walk down a set of stairs without you telling me the statistics of stair-related injuries and trying to hold my hand, I'm never going to feel like I can live my life! Imagine if YOU had someone constantly walking through your room, telling you the statistics of book avalanche-related injuries, while touching all your stuff and changing everything so you can't live the way you want to!"
The contrast to his own life makes Satan double-take. He never realized he was being controlling and invasive, but your comparison brings light to how his behavior could damage your relationship. "… It would be rage-inducing."
"Exactly! And Belphegor!" Belphegor tries to hide himself, but the brothers part under your frustrated gaze, and you can see the sleep demon anxiously shifting under your scrutiny. "Belphegor, why are you avoiding me??"
"….." He's quiet, struggling to put words to everything. Beelzebub realizes his brother's been hurting, and he hasn't realized because he was so concerned with your wellbeing. Beelzebub gently rubs Belphegor's back, and Belphegor covers his face, looking away as he finally is able to get out the words; ".. I didn't want to hurt you."
His reasoning is different from everyone else's. It's reasonable in the fact that it's already happened.
Though, what DOES make it unreasonable, you have no problem telling him; "If you don't want to kill me, you're not going to! You don't kill people you don't want to! And besides, if it's a fear of accidentally hurting me, that's normal! People accidentally hurt the people they love all the time! People don't accidentally KILL the people they love all the time, and what you did to me when I first arrived in Devildom WASN'T AN ACCIDENT!"
Belphegor is silent, soaking in your explanation.
Your voice softens as you become a little less frustrated, being able to voice everything that's been bottled up inside; "SO- As long as you don't want to kill me, you're not going to. And if you accidentally hurt me? I'll heal. We'll work through it together-"
"What if I hurt you in a way you can't heal from? Demons are strong and- …" It chokes on the edge of his tongue, threatening to come out. He tries to hold it back, but he can't. "And.. I know better than anyone how easy it is to snap your neck. It was like a toothpick. Do you know how terrifying it is to realize that I have to control my strength to that level around you? All it takes is one playful shove, and you could end up in the hospital- Or worse. You're so much more delicate than you realize, and we have to be so much more careful than you realize."
It's here that a silence comes over everyone as you soak in his explanation. You never really realized how difficult it was for the demons to reign in their strength to keep you safe. You thought it was fairly breezy, since everyone else seemed so relaxed until recently.
It's your turn to feel sheepish.
".. I'm.. Sorry. I didn't know. But there has to be a middleground. You avoiding me makes me feel awful. I feel unloved and unwanted and ignored. I don't want to be safe at the cost of our relationship. And my safety shouldn't be an ultimatum."
"…." Belphegor's eyes are sad, and he's been trying to hold back the tears, but he can't. Beelzebub holds him and tries to comfort his brother.
The demon of gluttony realizes he too has been trying to control your life too, which has probably been causing you undue stress, which is probably why you ran out here in the first place. ".. I'm sorry for making your life more stressful, _. I want to keep you safe, but it's obvious that I should have talked with you about it."
The apologies start spilling as one by one, the brothers begin apologizing for controlling your life and making you feel ostracized.
Mammon doesn't apologize as he doesn't feel like he crossed any boundaries, and makes it known when Asmodeus elbows him. "Hey, I didn't cross any boundaries!"
"… I mean, trying to feed me shady vitamins out of a bag is hilarious, but also probably not exactly healthy."
"But I've been making you better food too! Packin' the nutrients in!"
"Is THAT why you learned to cook all these new dishes??"
"YEAH!"
"…" His kindness and effort were sweet, and the least invasive of the brothers' attempts to help you and prolong your life.
But those weren't the only things he was doing. "I need you to stop trying to give me protein shakes and vitamins and whatever 'health supplement' you find on the shelf. The health supplement market is really messed up. I've lowkey been avoiding most of what you give me, because there's no regulation in that market, and it actually COULD hurt me."
He's stunned. He figured some of his methods might've been a bit harmful, but he also figured he would get enough right that it would cancel all the bad stuff out.
You continue; "Can we all find a middleground? Why are you all so scared of me dying right now? Did something happen?"
Lucifer nods, having been listening; "I think a middle-ground would be better. If you're feeling stifled, that's not healthy either. And it's obvious we need to take better care of you-"
"Why do you NEED to take care of me?" You turn to Lucifer, exhaustively. It stops him in his tracks and he stares at you, confused.
"… Because you're precious to us."
"But I'm not helpless. Do you not trust me to reach out when things are getting difficult? I can advocate for myself, Lucifer! It's so demeaning when you treat me like you know better, and like I'm just some bumbling idiot who you have to keep from dying!"
The words cut deep. The last thing he ever wanted to do was to make you feel like he looked down on you. You are one of the most important people in his life, and he adores you. The fact that you haven't been able to see that causes Lucifer to become quiet as he reflects on his own behavior.
He should have reigned in his brothers. He should have given you space. He should have advocated more for giving you your own voice, not talking over you with what you should have been doing.
It all seems so clear and so obvious, but it took you speaking up for him to realize how much he's been ignoring your emotional needs in care of your physical health.
And with this whole meltdown, he's realizing that it was the breaking point.
"I too, am sorry, _. I never meant to make things more difficult for you. I love you dearly. I will be better, going forward."
You finally seem to relax as he apologizes.
But he continues; "Can we please talk about your mortality, though?"
Everyone can see it's not exactly a conversation you WANT to have. But you know it's one you need to have. ".. Okay."
Levi sputters out with his frustration first; "If you die, then I won't be able to share the rest of my life with you. There's so much that can happen when you're gone. I know you're not going to live long, and it scares me. I don't want to reach a day where I want to knock on your door to ask you to hang out, but I know you'll never answer." He's tearing up as he says this, his body physically shaking.
Asmodeus gently rests a hand on Leviathan's shoulder, looking to you, a sad expression on his face. ".. I think a lot of us share that sentiment. We want to get in as many good memories as we can, because you are such a precious, amazing, wonderful person. You are a once-in-eternity kind of person, and we will never be able to fill the hole you'll leave when you die. It's so hard to think of moving on when we've barely gotten to share a life with you."
Satan fidgets with his fingers against his leg, but he can't keep himself contained any longer, cutting in; "Solomon's here to stay forever, why can't you be too? We know it's possible. We know you could stay alive forever. The bastard says he doesn't remember what he did to curse himself with immortality, and every immortality curse I've found comes at a great cost…" He finally looks to you directly. "But all of that aside, it's hard to even broach the topic with you. Do you WANT to live forever? It would be selfish for us to ask you to carry the pain of watching every one of us die, just because we can't bear the sight of losing you. I can't bear the sight of losing you.. But it feels so selfish. And I don't want you to ever reach a point where that sorcerer is the only friend you still have left that hasn't died. …" His voice trails off in frustration, losing his train of thought to the idea of you living eternity alone with Solomon. You can see Satan's grappled with this issue for a while.
Belphegor picks up where Satan left off; "It's hard to imagine a world without you. You came into our lives, and it was like breathing for the first time in a long time. We love who we are because of you.. And I think we're all scared of who we'll become when you're gone. Losing you will be right up there with losing Lilith as the worst things we've ever experienced, and we won't have another you who can help us through it. We wouldn't WANT another you. …. But we simultaneously recognize that it's not your responsibility to help us through it."
Seeing his brothers going back and forth about their feelings, Mammon can't help but be grounded in the moment. ".. I think we wanna take responsibility for it now, because when you're gone, we're gonna hafta take responsibility for it anyways, yeah? …" He looks anywhere but directly at you. "…" His silence is hard as he chokes back the tears, trying not to fall apart in front of his brothers, but between Levi's crying and Asmo's sniffling and everyone else's pain, it's hard for Mammon to keep strong.
So Lucifer steps up to the plate. "We're sorry for pushing all of this on you, _. It shouldn't be your responsibility to help us through the pain and loss that hasn't even afflicted us yet. It's hard to talk about this without accidentally putting pressure on you to choose an eternity that could hurt you so much worse in the long run, just to keep our own heads on straight. Do you understand? We promise, it was never meant to make you feel belittled, we just.. We've never dealt with something like this before; A slow attrition of loss that we either have to accept, or find a way to fight.." He gently rubs your back, looking you in the eyes. ".. And we've never really been the kind of people to back down from a fight."
"…" It all makes sense. And hearing their hearts laid bear like this clutches at your heart. You never wanted them to feel like they couldn't come to you about this, but you understand how it got this bad. It would take facing all of their fears and letting you come to an answer at your own pace, without pressuring you. THAT'S why they tried to prolong your life without saying anything. THAT'S why they kept talking about your health. THAT'S why they kept trying to circumvent the issue.
You continue; ".. I appreciate the honesty, guys. I love you all too. I don't want to leave you guys all alone, but.. You're right. Immortality would be a huge decision. If it's even achievable. … And I understand why this all happened. I understand why you guys pushed the way you did. I think we should keep talking about this, but, taking it a little slower. That way, you guys aren't completely holding back the floodgates, but I also don't get overwhelmed. Whatever happened, whatever fate I choose for myself, I do want it to be my own decision. But I think I NEED to make that decision. I've put it off because I didn't really want to think about it, but.. I don't want to put it off until it's out of our hands."
Lucifer rubs into your back, listening. All the brothers listen.
"Until then, until I figure out if I want eternity or not, can we please go back to how things used to be? I'll do my best to take good care of myself, and advocate my needs, but I need you guys to trust me that I'm going to take care of myself and let me live a little, even if it's risky. I promise, I'm not going to be diving off the roof, but I want to be able to play games that make me sad, eat junk food that gives me pimples and might not be GREAT for my heart. I want to hang out with you guys, even if I could get hurt. I want to not be reminded of my mortality constantly, and be able to make my own choices about my own limits. I promise to be good to myself and reach out if I'm struggling, but you guys gotta promise to be willing to let me take more responsibility for my life again."
"You need some good things in your life though." Levi doesn't want his efforts to get lost in the shuffle.
"I'll make sure to set aside time to enjoy good shows with you that are happy and show how good life can be. Can you sit with me through the sad ones and help me pick up the pieces?"
Levi nods, wiping his eyes.
Asmodeus takes this chance to add; "You also need to be gentler with yourself. You can't be up at all hours of the night every night."
"I'll be good about my self-care, making sure I'm getting good sleep and relaxation. Can you love on me when I don't want to be presentable and good and I want to just throw caution to the wind sometimes when it comes to the littler self-care things? I don't want every minute I spend with you guys to be an exercise in avoiding death. I want to LIVE a little, which means we'll get messy and make some bad decisions sometimes."
"Of course. But only if you're not letting yourself fall to ruin. I don't want to watch you waste away.."
"I promise I'll reach out if I start to struggle, and I'll accept your help if that time comes."
"Thank you."
"And your health-" Satan adds, a little embarrassed, but not wanting it to go unaddressed. "You need to be wary of how dangerous this world is, and how fragile a human body is."
"I won't go throwing myself down the stairs or taking wildly unnecessary risks - So long as you let me take risks and get hurt sometimes. I'd rather you help me patch myself up after getting burned or cut than to live my life constantly cushioned." You look to him so earnestly that Satan is flustered, but he understands. Life without risk isn't exactly living.
"I think I can do that."
You look to Belphegor, who has been quiet this whole time. ".. And Belphegor, can you please be in my life again? I miss you."
"… What if I hurt you again?"
"We'll figure it out together."
"What if I can't control myself?"
"You have 6 brothers who will happily kick your entire ass if you go Human Murderer on me again. You should rely on your support system. Don't be afraid of fighting with me. We need to be able to have fights and disagree and have bad days sometimes. What matters is coming back together and making things right, and relying on our support systems so it doesn't get out of hand. Alright?"
Upon mention, his brothers quickly crowd him and hug him and hold him, reminding him that he's not alone in this. He's not alone in learning how to be better to you.
"…." Belphegor nods, tearing up again, soaking in everyone's love.
Mammon scratches his cheek as he looks to the side and adds "Since we're all talkin' about ways you can stay alive longer.. Can we come to you when we find stuff that could be an option? There's gotta be more options than forever immortality an' death, yeah? Witches stay alive for ages!"
"… Only if you don't pressure me to take it, and you let me be the ultimate decider, and you don't bombard me with stuff all the time. I don't want you coming at me with 'Prolong your life now' schemes every other day. I want to be able to live with you guys, and live the life I have, however long it's going to be. Alright?"
".. Alright." Mammon seems more comforted in the idea that he can keep looking for ways to give you more options.
Beelzebub slowly moves towards you, silently wrapping his arms around you in a hug. You hug him back. The brothers begin all coming close to hug you. Beelzebub apologizes once more; ".. We're sorry for stressing you out. Thank you for listening to us and our concerns. You're important to us. We love you."
Hugging as many of them back as you can as you're squeezed softly into the fold, you respond; "Thank you guys for talking to me about it instead of continuing to be weird and stand-offish. We'll figure it out as we go. In the meanwhile, let's make good memories."
The brothers begin heading inside, you following them.
Lucifer lags behind a little, tugging a trinket out of his pocket. It's a pendant which would keep you from aging which he picked up thinking you might like it - But considering the conversation and the boundaries you've just set, he thinks it would be best to just.. Be in the moment with you.
He stuffs it back into his pocket and comes to join the group in the house, and he opens the door just in time to hear Levi cry out "NO BUT THAT IS THE SADDEST ANIME EVER-" followed by your hallowed cackling of 'making up for lost time'. Lucifer smiles to himself.
However long they have with you, it's the greatest treasure of all.

tell me about cult shit (every time I read your cult posts I feel super enlightened I think it’s great that you’re sharing your experience because I feel like it teaches so many others including me) specifically about things cults do to normalize their actions? idk if that makes sense but I was thinking about how jean thought that what he went through was something he deserved and like normal punishments etc
yay cult shit!
warning: this got long and i think i veered off topic and a lot of it is incoherent. To sum it up, there's a lot of ways that cults manage to normalize things. And a lot of it boils down to your brain not wanting to admit you're trapped and that it's worse than you thought.
A lot of it is subtle integration. If you're not learning it from birth and they're trying to convert you they're obviously not going to hit you with the worst of the worst right off the bat.
This is a rough comparison because it is comparing two forms of abuse and two traumas but it's the best I can think of right now. It's kind of similar to how domestic abuse in relationships can work. A man hits his girlfriend for the first time. He swears it won't happen again. She accepts that. It obviously happens again. And grows more frequent over time.
A lot of cults don't function off of physical abuse. At least not as their foundation. A lot of cult members are physically abused, are more likely to end up in relationships where they will be abuse victims, and in many husband/wife relationships or parent/child relationships there can be physical abuse present. But that's often not what a cult sustains itself on. But it is does to a similar thing to physical abuse where it eases into things and as people are manipulated and get in too deep then the abuse becomes more obvious or more frequent.
With the way I grew up it was largely that I came to associate unnatural punish/consequence as natural consequences. A child drops a plate. Natural consequence: they clean up the mess (with help, if needed). Unnatural consequence: some form of corporal punishment. This is a specific example that we still see very frequently. Many kids who grrew up being hit or spanked do still believe that it is a natural thing/natural consequence. Your child misbehaves and therefore the "natural" consequence is that you spank them. Obviously we have evidence and psychological studies that contradict this. But that doesn't change the fact that based on the way many people were raised they still believe that to be a natural punishment.
Cults work similarly. Growing up if I messed up there wasn't often a natural or connected punishment. The obvious answer, or the consequences for my actions, were often based in religious/cult related things. It erases the sense of the natural consequences and replaces them with things ingrained in the cult. Until it seems natural.
I'd honestly assume the ravens work similarly. You mess up a drill and instead of re-running it you get hit and then you do it again. It adds the factor of physical abuse into the process until it becomes a regular and expected part of it. Until it seems like the obvious thing.
There's also the aspect of fear and fear mongering. I thought I deserved certain things because I had sinned. Because I was going to hell and that was something I feared greatly. Anything that comes from a higher power is deserved. Whether that's a god or a cult leader or anyone else above you. And a huge part of that probably factors into Jean's abuse and his sense of deserving. He has never held a position of power over Riko in any form. Not in name, not on the court, not anywhere. Riko has always been above him. And even when Jean fought back that was something that still existed. There's a huge power play involved there and your mind and body can only put up that fight for so long before fear wins out.
When there's no clear out you will eventually succumb to it and normalize it. To put it in very simple terms. Jean could never get up and walk out. And there was only so much abuse and torment that his mind and body could withstand before he learned to give in. Before he learned that Riko, and Tetsuji, were things to be afraid of.
You don't just get up and walk out of a cult. Maybe in the early days, but they don't show you the worst of it early on. But once you're in it becomes normal because there's no way to leave. So you have to rationlize it. Justify it. Find a reason why it's the way it is. Obviously for Jean it was abusive from the get go. And that was because he has absolutely no out. For the other Ravens they could, in theory, drop out at any point. But that's not how cults work. Even if it seems like there's a way to leave, most cult members can't see it. You never know you're in a cult till you leave it. Why would you be looking for the exit?

the show should have ended with a global alien invasion, and as flying saucers invade the skies of washington dc, mulder sits in his car in the parking garage of the J Edgar Hoover building getting swarmed by every agent who ever called him "spooky", who are now tripping over themselves to apologize and try to get a ticket to his bunker. and scully is in the passenger seat rolling her eyes because "how can we be absolutely sure that they're aliens" and "it's probably just a military drill" and "maybe swamp gas is causing a nationwide hallucination" and we close on her ranting about the psychology of fear mongering and the influence of mob mentality while mulder bashes his head against the steering wheel. the end.

I cut my family off about ten years ago and I'm begging the other trans men to listen to me for a moment because I'm going to share a story.
When I was freshly out in my early twenties my sister thought it was "funny" to tell my dad to get me Britney Spears perfume for Christmas. I had never worn perfume, never requested perfume, but because my teen sister thought it was funny to be mean (who learned it from my mother, who hated that I wasn't constantly policing my body the way she liked) but he got it for me. He could have gotten me literally anything else. It's not like he had a habit of getting me bad gifts. I remember being a kid and him bringing me home gorgeous books about whales from DC. But he decides to get me something without putting any thoughts to it at all.
And I see a lot of trans guys talking about their family acting in similar weird ways. I'm not here to fear-monger, but you really need to think about what they're treating you like that.
Due to circumstances in my life and my mother's mental illness playing out the way it did, I got to see the other side of all that. The same man who didn't seem to remember anything about me would listen to my sister like that over and over again. I ran away from home and my mother weaponized my sister against me, the only person who could use a computer. My sister sent a Tumblr of a minor who went to my LGBT center to my father, telling him I was suicidal. When I talked about how our mother tried to keep us from eating over 1,000 calories a day and how she wanted us to be 100 pounds, my sister claimed I was shit-talking her eating disorder.
And what I'm trying to say is that I wish that before all of this happened I had confronted my father. That before I tossed the present in the bin* — like so many of us do when our parents did this shit — that I had gone to him and asked him why. Explained that I was grateful for it but it would be a waste of his money if I never used it. Asked why he thought I would want that, why he listened to my sister. Explained that she thought it was fun to do things like this and make me upset, especially towards him. Brought up the books he gave me as a kid and asked if from now on he could keep me in mind when he saw books while travelling.
In my particular case, I doubt he would have listened to me. But maybe he might have thought about why his kids would want to turn each other against him. Why his kid would have more fun recommending something that would hurt his other kid's feelings. Maybe he wouldn't have been upset about it or even cared but he might have mentioned it to his therapist or his divorce lawyer or his girlfriend and someone might have seen the red flags.
What I'm trying to say is that if your parents can't handle a confrontation over something simple, don't worry about leaving. If you CAN confront them respectfully, don't feel like you're being a bad person for having that conversation.
*I gave it away, I'm too much of a sucker to waste anything, but the girl I gave it to loved it. So it goes.
