BTS Tutorial: WEVERSE SHOP
Tumblr media
WeVerse is a platform where we can watch BTS content and interact on the forums with the artists.
WeVerse SHOP is where we buy official and exclusive merch.
Gonna recommend you bookmark those two links.
Did you know you can even set up WeVerse on your smart TV and watch content on your big screen? For tutorials on how to set up accounts, go here:
Before we get into it, I’m just gonna make a plug that you try to purchase your ARMY annual membership. Even and especially while the boys are in military service, your membership lets HYBE know there’s still interest and engagement for our boys and that they have SOME funds and fans they can depend on coming in from BTS-related content. I can’t afford the fancy exclusive expensive membership but the $22 a year gets me a free pass to all kinds of cool paid media like behind the scenes footage and extra content, too.
Okay, now back to the shop. So far, I’ve found WeVerse shop to carefully package their folios and albums. I honestly can't afford much because I want to prioritize purchasing the music more than the merch. However, for international ARMY, WeVerse Shop purchases often come with steep shipping costs and delays, so just be mentally prepared to wait for your hoodie or whatever several weeks if not months longer than our K-diamond ARMY have to. Them’s the breaks.
In terms of helping your bias chart, physical albums (CDs, vinyls) sold on WeVerse USA Shop WILL count toward Billboard 200 if you live in the US. (So will physical albums in Target—and some physical albums on Amazon IF they come from the official BTS source. You absolutely gotta check the fine print and see if they tell you which charts their sales might count toward, or just don’t risk it.)
Sales on WeVerse GLOBAL Shop will NOT count for Billboard 200, but those will count toward Hanteo and GaOn charts. If you are a non-US-based I-ARMY, please go ahead and purchase from the GLOBAL STORE to help the boys win awards in their home country if you have the funds.
Also note that WeVerse digital albums are basically QR codes that you get access to the day an album drops. You scan the code and you can play the songs in WeVerse only. None of those plays in the WeVerse app count for our charts so I highly recommend you prioritize Spotify, YouTube, Apple, and Amazon for streaming.
For more information US ARMY can use about WeVerse items for sale, including FACE presale releases, I recommend following this account:

Please go ahead and share this so the word gets out. If you know of better information, please let me know so I can keep these tutorials evergreen, and thank you!

DISCLAIMER:
I am a Dope Old Person and have been ARMY since January 2022. So I still have a lot to learn.
I’m making mini-tutorials for people like me who are comfy with technology but totally new to voting, streaming, and buying Kpop stuff.
If you know of better, more up-to-date information, please comment or DM me so I can make sure I’m not spreading misinfo. Please be polite about it, though—we are on the same team!
Feel free to apply whatever you learn here to other BTS members and other artists; I’m Jimin-biased so I am focused on helping Jimin at this moment in time, but I’m OT7 so rest assured I’ll put my shoulder to the wheel for all our members!

Recap of Boys Planet Episode 1, Part 2
Tumblr media
Part 1 was here. On to part 2!
Team USA performing Rush Hour
At about 58:00 in, it’s time for USA’s own Jay and Kamden to come back out. Jay is jabbering nervously in English as they come out from backstage.  The trainees in the Space Council seem excited for USA to perform. One of the dance judges calls USA “Father, mother” (either that or he’s remember the words he learned in first year English class?).
Tumblr media
The trainees are impressed with Jay and Kam’s swag. Wait until they hear them sing.
My take:
They’re really fucking good. I don’t have to explain this, right? They’re just actually good. They sing well, and perform well, on a singing/performance competition show, ahhh what a relief. Watch the Youtube version if you want to figure out how really really good Kamden is too. I don’t know why they focus so much more on Jay -- Kam kills it just as much. Jay does have a lovely vocal color, but Kamden does too!! I will also point out that Jay’s initial acapella singing was off key, but he must have been really nervous and exhausted.
The judges give Jay 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and Kam only 3 ⭐⭐⭐, which is stupid and wrong because Kam also should get 4 stars. Whatever.
The judges notice that the American kids know to bow 90 degrees. Hey, there’s a lot that goes into successful Kpopping. Bow a lot, future foreign kpoppers. When it doubt, bow.
At 1:00:34 the judges say that it’s time for a break, so it’s time for the trainees to go adjust their makeup and talk about how handsome and talented everyone is, and whether they think K or G will win the day.  Feel free to skip to 1:02:00 for the next segment:
Yuehua K versus Yuehua G.
Tumblr media
G on the left, K on the right.
I assume that the long term plan here is for all (or most) of these eight boys to debut as one group down the road; that would be smart, because we’d know them all at least a little bit, and many of them are fairly memorable. I bet that would work -- We really have no way to know how well they know each other -- do they train together in Korea? Hard to be sure. But the impression I get is that they do know each other, and while they’re feeling competitive right now, I think they are also cheering for each other deep down. I mean, look at Brian (fourth from the left) grinning at the others.
Ji Yun Seo, fifth from the left, says that the K-members are a bit better, again suggesting that they know each other a bit. Ricky (blonde) trash talks back in a combination of Korean and English. The trainees in the Space Council are edited to seem anxious about all of this.
Tumblr media
Kick It (G)
Zhang Hao: 22 years old, Chinese: “I’m the musical prodigy and ace leader.”
Ricky: 18 years old, Chinese (in English): I’m young and rich, tall and handsome, Ricky.”
Ollie: 16 years old, Chinese. “I’m your chocolate! Ollie is the youngest.”
Brian: 20 years old, Canadian “I’m Brian, with a soft voice.”
Hao and Ricky tell the Space Council that Ollie is nervous and get the trainees to cheer for him, which they do willingly. He’s cyoo!!
Ollie is wearing the same overalls that Yuehua’s Justin wore in Season 2 of PD101.
Tumblr media
Everyone says that Brian is handsome, even the MNET editing team, who give him a halo.
The judges ask Hao about his “prodigy” status, and he explains that he can play a lot of instruments and in fact studied music in university. I love it when an idol has genuine musical talent. A staffer brings out his “not that expensive” 10 million won violin (about $7,500) and he plays beautifully. Everyone enjoys the moment of classiness. And then… we begin.
My take: I sort of fell in love with this song when it was performed by Seo Young Eun and Yoon Ji A in Girls Planet 999. I know, N-citizens are like, wut, but yeah. I did. Now I like it a lot, and have opinions as to how it should be performed.
If you don’t do that arms up over your head movement to “New thangs! New thangs!” with the right kind of ominous, confident energy, then why do it at all?
Tumblr media
And for me, none of them really did it quite right. Ricky has a look like he should be able to do it, but somehow, he fell a bit flat for me on stage. I bet they were all nervous, though. Ricky did that cool flip, they all had variable facial expressions, and all of them kept up the energy. Really, they all did fine, just not superb.
Zhang Hao: He made eye contact with the camera, which a lot of other trainees were nervous to do. Obviously the best singer in the group, and he held that long note accurately -- but it didn’t exactly sound nice, if you catch me. Still, I can see why the judges give him 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐-- it’s not unearned.
Ricky: He has a strange charisma, where he looks great in still photos, but somehow falls flat when he’s moving. I think he must have been a lot more nervous than he even seemed, so I’ll kind of cut him a bit of slack and see what else he can do. I think 3 stars ⭐⭐⭐ was more than fair for that -- if they had given him 2 I wouldn’t have been shocked, but maybe they bumped it up for his flippy flip.
Ollie: Rapped very clearly, with good pronunciation on the English and what I assume was good pronunciation on the Korean. I was actually wondering if he might have spent some time in the US or Canada, and all I can find is that he was a child model, so he might have traveled around a lot. Three stars ⭐⭐⭐ again seems fair.
Brian: Did a decent job dancing and was mostly on key/rhythm singing. He’s on his way, for sure. The judges give him 3 stars ⭐⭐⭐, which seems right, though I think some others with similar performances got lower scores.
Backstage, the Korean Yuehua trainees note that the G-group did the same as when they (the K group) were “monitoring them” -- again implying that they train in the same building, and maybe just split up when they were prepping for this show.
The judges hand out their stars, and the G-group members congratulate Hao (Ollie calls him Hyung, like a Korean kid would) and the other three try to be ok with their three stars. Hao vows that all four will get 4 stars next time.
Kick It (K)
Now it’s time for the K-group to come out and also perform Kick It. Let’s get it! (1:11:10)
Tumblr media
When they come out, the G-group Yuehua teams waves to them cheerfully from their seats in the Space Council.
Tumblr media
Yeah, they’re totally buddies.
K group introduce themselves:
Ji Yun Seo: (18) ”I’m the energetic Dragon leader!”
Yoo Seung Eon: (19) “The main vocalist with a titanium voice.”
Han Yu Jin: (15) “the lovely charismatic golden maknae”
Kim Gyu Vin: (18)  “the genius you want to see every day.”
The judges tease them about their supposed rivalry with the other half of Yuehua. Apparently, the G-group Yuehuas said that “our youngest” Han Jujin was the most likely to win an allstar.   Han Yujin checks their formation before they get started and then we get down to it.
They do a brief intro first, featuring what must be original choreo, and then launch into their version of Kick It.
My take:
Yoo Seung Eon really does have a fantastic voice - I think he strains a bit and could benefit from additional training, but that’s the kind of feedback someone gets when they’re actually good, like he is. He dances better than some working main vocalists, too. His mic pack seemed to come loose for him (and for most of this group) and he delt with it pretty well. For me, he was the ace of this group, but you know. MNET hates vocalists. You’ll do a great job in the Yuehua boy group that will debut in 2024, Seung Eon. I’m already a fan.
Han Yu Jin is of course really great at dancing, and his one line was sung correctly. For me, there was something, I don’t know, stiff? one note?? about his dancing that was slightly off putting, and I don’t think he did the New Thangs part correctly. But he is a tiny baby and he’s just going to keep getting better and better with more training.
Ji Yun Seo danced with power and precision, and his singing voice was pleasant enough. I don’t have a ton to say, but really, he’s very good.
Kim Gyu Vin is a really good dancer. I’d watch a fancam of his. His mic pack came loose right at the beginning and that’s such a fucking bummer because I think it inhibited him a bit. But you still see his power, his charisma, his attention to detail. He did that New Thangs move correctly, looking down into the camera the whole time, so good. He only sang one line, and his vocal color is kind of foggy, but he’s on key and on rhythm -- exactly what you want from a main dancer.
The Yuehua-G group seems proud of their chingoos, and say, basically, that they feel like they didn’t know quite how good they were until now.
MNET’s editing is hyper focused on Han Yu Jin for whatever reason, and the judges tell him he dances like one of them, so that’s big. I understand why the judges were so excited about him -- that good that young! They ask him to freestyle, and he does a freestyle popping-heavy routine that leaves the other trainees wondering how he could be that good.
The judges are about to award their stars when Gyu Vin asks to do something else for them, specifically dance to REVEAL by The Boyz. He takes off his shoes, he’s so into it. I think he does great with this performance, too, though I can’t really tell through the editing.
Ok, so I was watching his performance, and I said to myself, “Self,” I said, “there’s a boy who idolizes Kai from Exo.” I looked it up, and turns out I was right -- Kai is in fact one of his idols. So, good job, me.
Tumblr media
All four of them are given All Star ranking⭐⭐⭐⭐, and I can’t disagree with any of that. The judges act as if Gyu Vin’s dance to REVEAL put him into 4 star territory, but for me Kick It already did that. The G-group Yuehua teammates seem sincerely happy for the other four. Zhang Hao in particular seems emotionally touched.
And, yeah, overall, I’m excited for all eight of these boys to hopefully end up in a group together. I like all eight of them and think that together they’d be better than apart.
1:23:55 Next Segment: My House
Tumblr media
Everyone is excited when the Cube trainee comes out, and it turns out to be Bak Do Ha, in his blue satin shirt. The camera tries to zoom in on the quarter inch of exposed chest we can almost see between his lapels. Sexy sexy satin! He haltingly introduces himself by saying “With a cute face but a voice that isn’t,” which I think is a reference to his voice being deep.
He’s here to perform My House, by 2PM. This is a great song and if you’re not familiar with the original, go check it out. It’s great. The whole thing with this song is that the 2PM guys are all tall -- between 5’10 and 6’1 -- and were all fairly mature when it came out in 2015 -- they would have been between 25 and 28. It’s like, “hey pretty lady, we’re both adults, let’s go home together. Take my hand, let’s go.” The choreography is a little silly looking, so you have to deliver it with all the confidence of an ostrich doing its mating dance.
Tumblr media
20-year old Bak Do Ha is not as confident as an ostrich, because he’s not as good a dancer as an ostrich, and he has one of those uncomfortable deep voices that are a little hard to coax into melody. Good looking guy, though, and he seems to charm Lip J into wanting to take his hand, but mostly what his dance inspires is laughter. Perhaps they’re not exactly laughing at him, though -- they’re laughing at “the other guy.”
That’s when we, the audience, find out that what actually happened, in real time, was this: red-shirt wearing 23-year-old Jung Min Gyu, from an agency I’ve never heard of called CABIN74, came out first, performed My House by 2pm, and then shortly thereafter, Bak Do Ha came out and did the same song. But for no real reason, the MNET editors were just like WHAT IS TIME? WHAT IS CHRONOLOGY? and decided to tell the story in flashback.
So now we get to see Jung Min Gyu’s attempt. It’s even worse than Doha’s version, for kind of the same reasons -- he seems embarrassed of the song, embarrassed of his sexy satin shirt, embarrassed to be singing and dancing in front of judges. He seems relieved when they laugh at him, because he had expected them to be silently angry. Poor guy. CABIN74 is a newish agency, and mostly made news for signing, and then losing, a member of T-ARA. I think they mostly have actors under their banner, and maybe this guy really wants to be an actor. I mean, I hope he does. He claims his specialty is “Changing facial expressions quickly” and that his favorite song is by Barry Manilow. So, yeah. It would make sense if he were trying to be an actor, not really an idol.
The other thing about their performances is that this choreography, like a lot of choreography, looks really silly all by itself. Perhaps because of this, the judges ask Mingyu (red) to come up and join Doha (blue) and they dance together -- Mingyu takes off his shoes because they’re “slippery” --  and it’s obvious to everyone that they look much better together than they did on their own…. but that they’re still not good.
Apparently this moment has gone viral, and I mean, sure, it was fun.
My take is that it’s not good in a genuine way -- I feel like we’re laughing at them, not with them. I think it was mean to have either of them perform alone and it was mean to give them this song. That’s my take.
Both trainees get zero stars, which is harsh but fair.
1:31:57 Team Hot
This Chinese team wearing red outfits consists of Wang Yan Hong, 24, and Yang Jun, 23. Neither appears to be signed to an agency.
Tumblr media
My take:
Yeah, this isn’t so good. They wander from the key and rush the rhythm really badly, the high notes are too high for them, and they have not great vocal color. They aren’t synchronized in their dancing, and this choreo looks silly done by done two people instead of 13. They are committed and have decent facial expressions, and they don’t laugh or otherwise undercut themselves, but yeah, this isn’t great.
But I think the reason that people kind of like this performance in a weird way (the existence of this video argues that point) is that they’re human beings trying their best, doing something they’re maybe not that great at. There’s something charming about a real human. Yoo Seung Eon from Yuehua, the one with the “titanium voice,” seems somehow super human when he sings. Maybe we don’t always want titanium idols; we want idols who are flesh and blood. Hence the fame of William Hung, hence the win of Kim So-hye in PD101-1, hence the rise of singing groups in kpop who really can’t sing (I shall name no names because I enjoy being alive).
Oh boy, the MNET editing makes them look even worse. Anyone would look bad if you interrupt and replay 2 seconds every 5 seconds. In the full-cam Youtube version, you can hear that the Space Council cheers when Yan Hong and Jun finish, but in the MNET editing, they end to complete silence. I don’t know why MNET editing, and the judges, went so hard against these two. They weren’t that much worse than anyone else. Yes, they earned their zero stars fairly, but there was no reason to be so cruel. They were gentle with Jung Min Gyu, the red-shirted My House performer -- maybe because he’s Korean.
Criminal I
Next up is Lee Dong Gun, one of two trainees who audition with Taemin’s Criminal.
Tumblr media
Donggun is only 17 and admires both of the male dance masters, and is clearly here in his capacity as a dancer. No mention is made of his young age, or his bravery at performing alone, or the difficulty of trying to do a cover of a song originally performed by arguably the best dancer in all of kpop. Nope, no reason to mention any of that. Instead, let’s play only his worst high notes, edit it to make it comical and insulting, and then focus on the judges saying things like he was never on key for a single moment.
You guys, check out the full cam on youtube. He’s 90% on key for the first minute or so, and yeah, after the one minute mark it goes off the rails. But watch it on mute if you have to. His dancing is good. These are intricate, strange, varied movements he’s doing, and he’s doing it with commitment and bravery. The notes are wrong, but he sings them with some lung strength. Compare his singing to that of Haruto, who the judges inexplicably gave a 4-star rating despite his horrible, terrible, no good singing. Compare Donggun’s singing to that of Taemin or Kai when they debuted, or Sehun when… now. Sehun now. (Sorry, all. I’m Exo-L, I’m allowed to say this.)
Heck, compare Donggun’s singing to that of any MR removed performance of pretty much any non-SM boy group. Enhypen springs to mind as a group whose MR removed videos don’t exactly show them in a great light. Why? Because they’re DANCERS. I like Enhypen a lot, and will delightedly watch Niki and Jay fancams. But I don’t fool myself that they’re singers. Come on, Engenes, you know it’s true.
So my point is…. I guess my point is, I don’t know why I put myself through watching these shows. The judging is so random and the editing is so awful. Why does Haruto get off scot free and they come down so hard on poor Donggun? I don’t get it.
Anyway, they give Donggun 1 star ⭐.
Then we get a montage of bad singers, none of whom are as bad as Haruto was. We see:
Jeon Woo Seok, performing Criminal
Wen Ye Chen, part of the Call Me Baby team
Jang Min Seo and Jung Se Yun Performing Damdadi by Golden Child, their Woolim sunbaes
Osuke and Yuki performing Crown by TXT
Then we get a montage of harsh judges comments about their singing, followed by a general admonition to the Space Council to be better singers, which pisses me off for a lot of reasons.
First off, there’s nothing they can do about it right now, you dumb dumbs. It’s probably 2 or 3 in the morning, and they’ve been there for 22 hours. They’re 16 or 18 or 20 years old. They’re terrified and undertrained. You yelling at them will not make them better singers, right now, in the remaining minutes or hours before they stand before you.
Also, and while I hold the opinion that Kpop singing has gotten terrible across the board and I would like to see more groups like EXO who can actually fucking sing, like is that too much to ask??, I also know, as these boys must know, that singing in Kpop is low key optional. Hell, look at how the MNET editing is already pushing Haruto at us and hiding how bad his singing is. If I were them, I’d be genuinely angry to be yelled at at this point.
Anyway. Deep breaths.
Tumblr media
I watched all four of these performances so you don’t have to. Let me give you the dealie.
Criminal II performed by Jeon Woo Seok
Tumblr media
He was really committed to the performance -- I mean, peep the bare feet, the binding on his hands, and expression. He had his hands tied together for the whole first half, and tore off his binding with his teeth. If you watch it on mute, it all actually looks pretty good! I bet his idol Taemin would see something to complement here. Watch the position of his hands and feet -- he really is doing the thing.  He’s 19 years old and he dances some difficult choreography with maturity and grace. He doesn’t crack up or giggle at having to be sexy. He just does it. He had the same commitment that Shim Seungeun had when she did Paradise Lost in GP999.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yep, his singing was in fact, egregious. Both off key and off rhythm. Unforgivably bad. But Haruto’s was worse. The judges were just wrong to give him 0 stars.
Call Me Baby
Tumblr media
Krystian, 23, was also on Youth With You 3, and was regarded very well on that show. Judges gave him 2 stars ⭐⭐.
Wen Ye Chen is 22. The judges gave him 1 star⭐. His finger looks weird in the picture because he was moving.
Chen Yu Geng, 24, is also known as Crayon. The judges gave him 1 star ⭐.
Chen Jian Yu, 24, got 1 star ⭐.
My take:
As a big Exo-L, I didn’t hate their performance. I love this song -- in fact, it might be my favorite Exo title track??? --  but I’m the first to admit the choreo is really weird, and for the most part, I think these guys pulled it off. I won’t say seek it out and watch it, but it’s really not that bad.
Wen Yu Chen was the main vocalist, and he was stepping in the footsteps of vocal giants. Who among us can sing Kyungsoo’s “Hey girl”? For the majority of the time, he was totally on key and fine, you guys. His voice sounded a bit thick to me, the way people’s voices sound when they’re straining or a little sick. But he hit a lot of the notes and danced the steps. I think 2 stars would have been fairer.
Krystian was a little flat, but he actually has a nice husky vocal color, and there’s something sort of just compelling about him. I looked into him, and on Youth With You he auditioned as a rapper. I think that he stepped up to the plate to sing because someone had to, and did his best. I’m glad he got 2 stars -- it could have been worse.
Crayon and Jian Yu didn’t stand out to me in any particular way, but weren’t ear shattering or anything.
Tumblr media
Damdadi performed by Jang Min Seo (16, left) and Jung Se Yun (15, right).
Jang Min Seo has already left the show, citing extreme knee pain, but maybe it was because the judges were so cruel to him and to Se Yun. Se Yun is the third youngest on the whole show, just a month older than Takuto and 5 months younger than Yuehua’s monster rookie Han Yu Jin. Like, hey, if you’re going to have high school sophomores on this show, can you at least not be mean to them?
I wasn’t familiar with this song, but I listened to the original and I feel like they were doing their best to emulate their sunbaenim. The song was well chosen for them, youthful and cute, and I think they brought nice energy to it. They both danced so hard their nametags fell off! I think they both had a little trouble with some of the footwork, and lost their balance a few times. But they both stayed on key as far as I could tell, and Se Yun rapped really fast. And if Min Seo was in horrible knee pain, you can’t really tell in the audition -- he keeps smiling. Poor kids.
The judges gave them both zero stars. I think 1 star would have been fair.
Crown by TXT performed by Osuke (19, darker hair) and Yuki (21, lighter hair), both from Japan
Tumblr media
Ah, what a great song. Not a great performance.
Sometimes they sang sharp, sometimes they sang flat. They may have had trouble finding the key since it had been transposed lower. When you’re used to a song in a certain key, as they probably are used to the original version of this song, it’s hard to switch to a different key sometimes. You have to take your cue from what you’re hearing in your headset, and maybe they had trouble doing that. Or maybe they just have trouble… you know… singing.
The dancing felt kind of cursory to me, as well. If you’re going to make a heart with your hands or arms, you have to do that long enough and with enough sharpness that I can get a screenshot of it.
Osuke got 1 star⭐, and I’m not sure how he was better than Jeon Woo Seok (who performed Criminal barefoot).
Yuki got 0 stars, which seems fair.
Ok, so our “bad singers montage” is over. The judges congratulate themselves on having yelled at their young trainees.
1:38:25 Final Stretch
The sun has set (filming began in early December, so if the sun was setting it was around 5pm) and many trainees have not yet auditioned. Assuming an average of 2 trainees per song and 10 minutes per audition, it would take around 500 minutes (8 hours, 20 minutes) to see them all. Hey, here’s a thought, MNET -- film this over two days. You could make them all wear the same clothes for the two days and pretend like you filmed it all on one day, but just give it two days so you aren’t filming until 3am and making your young trainees sick.
All I Wanna Do
Next up is Seok Matthew, from Canada. Brian, the Canadian Yuehua trainee, cheers loudly, and other trainees seem very welcoming. The judges say he looks like Xiumin, validating me at a level I had not expected.
What do you all think? Does Matthew look like Xiumin?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before Matthew can perform, we get a flashback to earlier in the day. Turns out that Sung Han Bin, who will be performing next, knows Matthew from when they trained at Cube together. (Which also suggests that they might both know Hui.) Hyung Hanbin is super supportive of Matthew, and waits back stage as Matthew performs.
My take:
Overall, I think he’s great. He sounds a bit sharp to me a lot of the time, which could be nerves -- he really did sound nervous. He has a lot of charm somehow that just makes him fun to watch. Maybe it’s the North American in me reacting to the North American in him -- I like how natural he seems on stage. He doesn’t sound out of breath even though he’s dancing pretty hard.
Tumblr media
The editing makes him look even better. Aww, Hanbin is shedding relieved tears backstage! How sweet. The judges are weirdly in line with me on this. They say he’s a bit sharp, which, yes, and fun to watch. They give Matthew three stars ⭐⭐⭐, which disappoints the Space Council, but I think it’s fair, or at least it would have been if other people who were worse than him hadn’t gotten four stars.
Beautiful Beautiful At 1:45:45
Tumblr media
HanBin comes out and says that he spent two years as a backup dancer, specializing in tutting and waacking. Naturally, LipJ challenges him to a waacking battle and it’s really fun to watch. The editing makes it almost impossible to tell what they’re actually doing, alas, but it’s still fun.
Then the judges ask him why he didn’t check off “vocal” on his intake form (shown below with a translation). He says that he isn’t confident about his vocals and wants to work on them here.
He also says that during the years he spent as a backup dancer, he wondered if he could ever make it as an idol. Hey, HanBin, have you seen yourself in a mirror lately?
He didn’t check off “visual” on his application form!! Just “dance” and “choreography.” Wild!! (Here is a screenshot of the part of the form they showed, with my translations below it.)
Tumblr media
My take:
Ok, as a full on Fuse (fan of ONF), I am so psyched that their songs are being seen and heard more often. Beautiful Beautiful is such an ONF song -- it’s hard to imagine anyone else doing a song like this. If you don’t really know ONF, you might know the “smiley boy” who did a dance cover of Hype Boy at a military talent show? That’s J-US from ONF, who looks great with a shaved head.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I love this song.
And I liked this performance!  Boy was I wrong about this pretty boy -- he can dance and mostly sing! I’d give him 3.5 stars for dance, 3 stars for performance, and like 2.5 stars for singing. So I’d give him 3 stars overall, and yeah, that’s what the judges give him ⭐⭐⭐. I felt like he was a tiny bit stiff, holding back a little, and a few of his movements kind of don’t play as well as they could.  But the changes he made to the choreo to include more tutting style moves actually work really well with the choreo as it stood. He has both power and control and looks great on stage. Born to be a K-idol.
That’s kind of what the judges say too -- that during his performance he seemed a tiny bit flat compared to when he was waacking with LipJ.  The judges praise his singing too. So I’m like, 2-for-30 with the judges today.
Hanbin seems perfectly happy with three stars, which makes him look like a real sweet guy. Wow, he’s pretty, and humble, and skillful? Hanbin is so making the final lineup, don’t you think? (I’m saying this only having watched the first episode -- this is a prediction based on what I’m seeing, not a spoiler.)
The judges say that any agency that had both Hanbin and Matthew must have been good, and the camera cuts to Hui, with the caption “proud of Cube.” Um, I bet not. Every trainee at Cube hates Cube.
Cry Time: Shine 1:53:55
Next out are Ichika(30), Itsuki (16), and Ouju(18) all Japanese trainees. Yes, Ichika is 30 -- he’s about 10 months older than Hui. The average age of the trainees, according to my spreadsheet, is 20. But he doesn’t look out place here. Part of the joy of a song like Shine is that you’re kind of supposed to look like mismatched dorks, all different heights and styles.
Tumblr media
But of course, they’re not really here to audition, at least not according to the MNET editors. They’re here to make Hui cry by performing Shine. Well, they’re here to make the entire Space Council cry.
So first, I'll explain why Shine would make Hui cry, for anyone who doesn’t know. Shine was a huge hit, and rightfully so. It was so beloved. For some reason, it didn’t win any music show awards, but whatever, it was a bonafide hit. And then E’Dawn got kicked out, and E’Dawn was a major sort of “face” of the group. Tons of scandal. Fans saying they’d boycott them if E’Dawn didn't get kicked out, and other fans saying they’d boycott them if E’Dawn DID get kicked out. And their next few songs just didn’t chart, despite being great. The guys must have thought they were at the start of a major break through, and then it looked like they were more like one-hit wonders.
For Hui, thinking back to Shine, back to that time when it looked like they were going to be big, when everything seemed possible, but knowing that it all crashed and burned…. Yeah, it would make me teary do. I mean, it does make me teary. I mean, I am crying.
When they’re done performing, the judges ask Hui what he thought of their performance, and he doesn’t really give any feedback. He just says, “I had a great time watching your performance, and I was grateful as the original artist. Thank you.” Then he bows like, 120 degrees to them.
My take on their actual performance:
If you watch their practice video, there were originally six of them performing together, and apparently three of them were sick or injured or something. I’m not clear on that yet. So they had to scramble and redistribute the lines and remake the choreo at the last minute. I won’t go too hard on them.
Ouju’s voice cracked several times. Ichika was off key most of the time, but he does do the heavy lifting, singing a lot of the lines. Itsuki’s vocals were also not fantastic. But they all brought that silly, “I’m a dork” energy to the choreo that you have to bring for this song, and they all kept going and didn’t give up. It’s actually kind of fun watching them, as unpleasant as it is to listen to them.
The MNET editing is kind, actually.
The judges give Ouju and little Itsuki no stars, and give tall Ichika one star⭐. That seems about right.
As of 1:57:00 it looks like Hui might be going next, but if you know MNET at all you know he won’t really perform until next time. They sure do find some clips to make it look like he does poorly and gets zero stars or something.
And that’s pretty much the end of the episode, except for the live ranking! Here’s the ranking. Trainees who I haven’t mentioned or seen before will be in italics; I’ll try to give you a reminder as to who the rest are.

My albums came in today 🥰 and when this trade we sent out today gets to me, I’ll have already completed Kun for Universe because I got his jewel case pc, and the trade was for the photobook pc so I’m very very happy
But I got Johnny, Hendery and Shotaro pcs in the three other jewel cases and tbh I want to keep them all so badly, I think I’m just gonna have to buy Doyoung and Ten’s cards if I want to actually collect them this era
And on an unrelated to nct note, I got two Ateez albums from ktown, and they came with POBs (thank god) and I got cutie hongjoong and god-blessed pink-haired sexy Seonghwa (clearly my Ateez bias) as POBs, and my album pulls were Yeosang and Jongho (who loves me he’s shown up the most in my Ateez pulls), and then Yunho and Wooyoung, so now the only Ateez member I’ve never pulled from an album or as a pob is San which sucks bc he’s my second bias in Ateez ☹️ but yes @ god thank you for the pink-haired Seonghwa pob

Yay!! Im happy to hear that! Hopefully you can rest up well from your semester!
Ahh by that I meant like you know how kpop albums have concept pictures included? Thats how I view what the TTT magazines are just minus a physical disc cx sorry for the confusion!! Honestly this is all so new and interesting, seventeen never really done something like this. Yes we had mixtape songs but not in this way so promotion will be different. I saw wonwoo and mingyu are doing a song but that isn't related to spider so that means its like jun's and minghao's songs. Which makes things a bit confusing lol, not complaining since hey more content for us ^_^ but yeah guess we have yo see when the next solo actually is. Oh and seventeen coming back!! This is the kind of news I needed, I'm shocked they actually have their own usa site to buy stuff (sort of like nct has) because I know bts nor txt don't. Well bts USED to but that was before bighit decided to shut it down in favor for weverse which sadly I don't see the need for (plus call me old and weird but I don't trust buying stuff from apps? Like I feel a bit more comfy on a computer which Ik doesn't mean its not safer but meh, apps make me fishy lol) also Walmart is selling the albums, bless my family uses Walmart alot (like we used it last night xD) so maybe I can squeeze it in next time? Granted I want to wait for the concept photos first because while I do like a surprise, its also just nice knowing what the vibe is. Or be the complete opposite of what the mv will be about lol.
Ahh as much i was being hopeful and had her eat, sadly my bunny didn't make it =c she passed away on the weekend. She was a strong bunbun, she tried her best to make it out but alas she didn't win. I'm a bit happy my gut instinct told me to spend time with her because at least I got to be with her for her last hour. It kinda sucks because I feel slightly guilty because I couldn't get her the proper help so I feel like I let her down (especially after I found out from reviews the food I bought for her is actually not good for bunnies and can cause problems so I feel dumb) I shouldn't since I gave my bunny the best love I could give while caring for her so she wasn't in a bad place with me. Still can't shake that off, feels weird not waking up and seeing her around or like when I play games she isn't near me chilling. Healing takes time of course so I'm making myself busy with enjoying content from my favorite artists. I made a lil promise that I would finish a game that I played alot while she joined me (it sounds silly but I viewed it as like "our game" ya know?) For her in memory. Sorry for babbling about this bsksbsjd. Losing a pet isn't fun at all. I am so sorry about your cat *hugs you* im sure that furry buddy was well loved!! If I may ask of course, do you have a favorite memory of your cat? Like any funny moment or cute ones?
ahhh ok i get what you mean! it will definitely be interesting to see how it all plays out since SVT haven't done a project like this before. I'm really curious how spread out all the solos are going to be. esp with a cb coming up it seems unlikely we'll get a TTT solo any time soon? but then again SVT are always surprising us these days. but i wonder if they'll come out just whenever a member happens to prepare it or if it's all scheduled out at semi regular intervals 🤔
but yeah it looks like bittersweet is part of the power of love project as opposed to TTT... it's getting complicated real fast! and yeah SVT is definitely expanding into/focusing more on US promotions now... it will be interesting to see how it all plays out! but i totally get what u mean about preferring to buy things on the computer it's funny how that is sometimes djfkgj i had been thinking about preordering the other day since it seemed like we wouldn't be able to pick the version we want anyway, but now that there are some shops that let you i definitely want to wait and see the teaser photos. every day i keep expecting them to start releasing but we get a different surprise instead OTL
I'm sorry to hear about your bunny :( but it's good that you were able to spend time with her at the end, I'm sure it made her feel safe to have someone who cared for her by her side rather than being alone <3 try not to feel too guilty about it, since what's done is done and there's no way to know for sure if it was the sole reason for her failing health. it's good that you're able to recognize and work through your grief, and i think finishing that game is a great way to do that and to honor her memory :')
and thanks, we lost her a little while ago now so luckily thinking about her is more nostalgic than sad. but as for a funny story Riley was a gremlin. she got up on the counters and kitchen table a lot when we weren't looking. she also liked eating paper and we had to be careful where we left things bc once she ate my sister's homework. which, ok, she didn't eat the entire paper but she did eat a corner of it and sort of ripped and crinkled the rest. i can't remember if my sister turned it in like that or if she had to redo it djgkgj
here's a picture of the frame/shadowbox thing my mom made for her after she died with photos, her collar (which she hated and hardly ever wore dhfk), and her favorite toy ;-;
Tumblr media
also u didn't ask but here's my other cat liberty from a few days ago :P (she's getting older and has arthritis and kidney issues but she's still alive and kicking!)

Sad tales of a 20 something. -FRIENDS AND WEIRD WAYS TO FIND THEM-
Hello! Back again from a long ass time of taking a break from this site and my 2 followers who don’t even reblog my writings.
Anyway, the reason i’m back is because i actually show this blog to one of my bestestssss friends in the world and encourage me to keep going and well here i am.
So i was thinking, maybe since a friend of mine made me come back, I should write about that. So this is it, an Ode to my friends.
I have always been sort of a friendly character, at least in my mind i am. Even when i was a kid and used to cry a lot and be a bit on the side shy, I always had a lot of friends. I even dare to say I was one of the first girls in my fifth grade class yo have actual good guy friends, not only the “popular” kids that chased girls to see under their skirts. Actual good and close friends that I’m still friends with.
So, I went to the same school from elementary until high school, meaning that i had been with the same people for around 12 years, and damn i was tired of it, not from my friends, not from a lot of people to be honest, but maybe more with myself and my lack of abilities to make new friends.
That leads me to my new found weird way to make friends. It started in college when i started as a music engineer major before switching to media and film. Engineering not always equals to men, in this case i guess it did. Some may say having all guy friends is easier no drama and shit, and is true for some part, I’m still grateful of all the guys of my Music engineering program that adopted me and ate lunch with me every day, not to the rest of engineering students that are “nice guys” by mansplaining anything on the math class board before the teacher (female) started explaining, though not gonna lie i didn’t understand shit, i still didn’t want some greasy hair guy with a weird stain on his shirt,that i pray it was toothpaste, to explain me shit. I can fail this class on my own thank you very much.
My first girl friend in college was a girl on the bus that i knew my cousins was a friend with but never formally met her before and i chatted her ear off in the way home, i was so excited i forgot i could be a chatty bitch when i feel happy. When they left the bus (her and her roommate who is lovely too) I started to replay everything we talked about and was already very much regretting living because i was so cringey. I guess i wasn’t that bad, I got a Facebook friend request and became pretty close after that.
First friend I made in my new major program (who i made before switching because of mutual clases) was a girl that i always saw in my favorite class, “Signs, symbols and significances” she was funny, very friendly and clearly friends with at least three quarters of the class. I decided that was my next mission, i left my guy friends side after an exam in our common class and went literally running towards her and another girl (amazing person too) I asked them in the most awkward way how the exam was for them and even if they thought i was weird they didn’t show it and were so nice with me.
I made a mistake though, I told the girl i had a mission on (to be close to) she seemed familiar outside class and she said i did too but we couldn’t remember where from. Until I realized she was the girl that i met in my first day of school in math class and sat next to her. That, until i didn’t hear my name while checking the list and was told that wasn’t the math class, everyone laughed i stand up and trip and yell “puta madre” so hard everyone laughed again. I then found out that story was so funny to her she actually used it as an ice breaker when meeting new people and started introducing me as the “puta madre” to everyone. At least she got me a lot of new friends, and besides having passed more than 5 years, she still reminds me of it and she still is one of my closest friends.
Another story, I was an exchange student and knew nothing about the culture (only basics, didn’t want to be rude), the language or anyone in this new country. I was so lost I literally was trying hookup apps to meet friends (never works tho, at least on me). It was my second day in Seoul and saw there was a kpop concert of one of the three groups I actually knew and my baby brother was a fan of, i checked and there were some tickets left, bought them, put on a pretty dress and left. Going to a concert alone is not that bad, going to a concert alone in a country you have been for 5 minutes and also understand shit, that is a fucking nightmare.
I met some friendly girls from USA that helped me out to figure the shit out in the venue, they told me they were living in Korea for like 5 years and still couldn’t even read, which i thought wow kinda disrespectful but anyway i wasn’t going to let go of anyone friendly anytime soon. Met some other girls that came to the country only for the concert which wow commitment. And then I was left alone again when taking the seats (standing spots to be exact). The concert was cool even if I didn’t understand shit and I’m 87% sure I even caught eyes with some of the guys in the group a few times. The concert ended and I wish I could say I captivated one of the kpop guys and that is my next friend meeting story but, nope is not and honestly i wouldn’t change it for any of the hot men that were on stage.
Fast forward the first day of school, i was lost and ask a girl for a classroom, she was very nice and told me where it was but that the class was in like 30 more minutes. We made small talk and i sat on a bench in the opposite way of her. The girl next to her was saying she had this next class that sounded kinda familiar, and I realized it was my same class so I told her to go together. Once inside the classroom I saw her phone and she had a familiar face as her screensaver, it clicked, it was one of the guys of the concert! I asked her and she said it was him and that she went to the concert too and we decided to had lunch together. From that day on we became pretty much inseparables, until she got the sleaziest guy in the world as a boyfriend but we don’t talk about shit in my safe space so that is a story for another day. Besides that terrible guy and his best friend who dated me only to dumped me weeks later to play LOL 24/7, I got my baby, my mijita who i love so very much and again, wouldn’t change a bit.
Lastly in this post, not in life nor in place of my heart, is a little blessing (literally) that came to me from heaven! She didn’t even know this, but a semester before she was having her abroad year in my country I was in one my deepest holes in my life. My mind was empty but my eyes always filled with sad tears. That semester before, nothing major changed in routine, in my family, in my life as in general. But somehow it did in my brain, my heart was feeling agitated for no reason, my palms were sweaty and shaking all the time and my brain was as it was shut down. I got the big D, and not as in a big nice dick getting me fucked, but another type of fucked nonetheless. Depression, the kind of weird illness that can’t be seen but oh dude it can be felt, and felt is all i did, i felt sadness, loneliness even with a full house and a full line of friends ready to help me. Sometimes shit just happens.
Took a semester off and when I came back I decided to faked it until i made it, and it was going great. I did cry back at home a few times a week but i could hold it during classes or in front of people, great advance. I decided to focus in what made feel best, dressing in my favorite shit and letting everyone out of my arts and humanities department have a nice view of it. And then I see her, weird to say i still remember how cool she looked, tall as fuck, wearing all black, shaved head and what i got to find out were her trusty black vans. I got obsessed with her fashion style and decided my next mission, be friends with her, or at least for her to acknowledge my presence. I saw her talking to a close friend (another great meet cute story for another day) so i decided it was my moment, I said hi and was introduced to her, we chatted a few minutes and got along pretty well. Her amazing style and bad ass british accent made me feel i was in bad rom-com where we were both straight and platonically soulmates. I saw her again outside the bathroom while i was waiting some friends, we talked for an hour, she invited me to a party and we had dinner first (so romantic, I know) at dinner I thought it was going to be awkward until we both realized our mutual love for SZA and Idris Elba. We never stopped talking after that, she even went back to my hometown for 2 weeks with me, where all my family loved her and strangers treated her like a celebrity. She calls my parents tíos and we talk as much as we can now that she is back at her country.
I miss her everyday and there is not a minute I am not grateful i met her.
These are some of the stories of how I met some of my friends, my closest ones and those that are still with me in every step I take. I can tell you one million more ways of how i met friends i love so dearly, but that is for some other day my hands aren’t hurting for writing only with my thumbs in my phone.
And what I care and love most about all these, is that I would never want to change being the weird girl that catches a hunch and runs towards people that will mean the world for.
FRIENDS I LOVE YOU ALL.

BTS reacts to their idol girlfriend on tour and fainting on stage
Tumblr media
pairing: bts x reader
warnings: idk if its right or not but just in case, know that it mentions skipping meals and not sleeping well, idk if its eating disorders or mental ilnesses but know that it mentions that, there’s no implied death tho one of them may seem to have but it’s not like that ok i explained too much
genre: angst
a/n: this may turn much darker than i thought omg im sorry
no gender neutral
~~~~~~~~
kim seokjin
Tumblr media
He never liked the idea of you going on tour. He had been knowing about the shitty way your managers were treating you. He noticed how your members would always receive praises while you only received criticism, which made you work harder. This involved staying until late hours rehearsing, skipping meals and sleep time to work on your choreographies. He didn’t want you to leave to Europe, mostly because when you were at South Korea, he could always check on you and stay with you. But now you were far away. He spent every day nervous, alert of his phone in case you wanted or needed to talk to him. One day Namjoon told him he was overreacting, that you were fine, you had your members and that they would help you. This managed to calm him down, put his phone down and left it at home to enjoy the only free day they were given.
He came back home late at night, a small smile on his face, glad that he could spend a day with his donsaengs. When he grabbed his cellphone, his expression quite changed, “23 missed calls” could be read on the screen. He quickly calling the owner of the 23 missed calls, your best friend and unnie.
“Seokjin-ah, where have you been!? I tried reaching you all day!” she cried, voice almost audible
“What happened?” he asked, fear obvious in his voice
“It´s Y/N...she fainted on stage a-and...” she sobbed, while Seokjin’s held his breath “....she isn’t waking up”
His heart stopped.
min yoongi
Tumblr media
It was a problem. Your weight had been dropping every month, making your boyfriend worried. And worst thing was, he couldn’t tell you anything. He had tried, more than he wanted to, but you just wouldn’t listen. This was your first year as an idol, your band debuted with success yet your managers weren’t happy with your body. That got to your head, and your diets were reduced to almost a plate per day. Yoongi was used to these starving diets, and knew that cheating them was the worst a female idol could do. So he focused on staying by your side, and help you sneak some snacks in while your managers weren’t present. But one day you announced him your band was going to South America as part of their tour. His concern grew, because he could follow you to Japan or China, but South America was too much. He just swallowed, nodded and prayed you would be ok.
He never stopped messaging you, every day checking in, seeing how you were doing. But suddenly, you stopped messaging. He glanced at the clock, 2pm. He remembered the 12 hours of difference, it had to be 2am for you. He was about to give up, and hope you were sleeping well, when a message entered his phone with a ‘pop’.
[2:08pm] Y/N: Suga are you there?
What? You never called him by his stage name, it cringed you. Why were you calling him Suga? He didn’t wait to reply.
[2:09pm] Yoongi: I’m here, what’s wrong?
He could feel it, something was wrong. His jaw dropped to the floor and an annoying knot appeared on his throat when he read the next message.
[2:11pm] Y/N: I’m Yoonho, me and the group are at the hospital, Y/N fainted, she’s way too pale and can barely move. You’re her emergency contact, right?
jung hoseok
Tumblr media
“Babe, you’re barely awake” you laughed a bit, watching Hoseok on your Face Time trying to keep his eyes open.
“I’m here, I’m here jagi” he replied, trying to smile, but you were right. He could barely stay awake. He had spent all day checking on you, trying to see if you were fine.
You had been feeling quite bad these past days. You had been working on your first soloist album, and you had wasted long nights writing lyrics and composing melodies. It was driving you crazy, but you needed to get it done. You too were barely awake, but spending weeks staying up late at night made you control yourself, you knew how to pretend you were fine. Something your career as a Kpop idol also taught you.You managed to convince Hoseok to go to sleep, so you could get changed and go to the stage, it was another night of touring with your girlgroup.
Hoseok woke up from what he liked calling a long nap to his phone ringing. Without thinking about it, assuming it was you, he picked up.
“Y/N~ jagi, I’m sorry I fell asleep” he spoke in his tired husky voice
“It’s not Y/N, Hoseok, I’m her manager” that made Hobi jump up and suddenly fully wake up.
“Why are you calling me from Y/N’s cellphone?” he didn’t measure his tone, too concerned to care
“Y/N fainted on stage, we had to carry her to backstage” he gulped, feeling tears on his eyes “She’s resting now but I supposed you should know” he added before hanging up, leaving Hoseok more concerned than he already was.
He hadn’t been able to talk to you in days, and it was driving him crazy. I mean, you were at USA touring, he knew your schedules by memory, why could you never even message him? But, he had to understand. Your managers weren’t as easy on you as his were on him. So he had to stick to social media. Updates of you on Twitter were the only way he had to check on you. He knew you had been quite stressed lately, thanks to your tour. You would always skip meals and sleep less just to get it perfect, you were too scared to be judged by foreigners, so you had to get it right.
He was working on his studio, the beat mixer opened right next to Twitter, with your update fan account. He refreshed every minute, watching some videos fan were taking during the concert. He started noticing you were missing some moves, and look quite tired.He assumed it was the video, because you never acted lazy on stage. He continued refreshing, but nothing happened. No new videos, neither pics or tweets. Everything was too silent. That was until he refreshed one more time, and a long tweet appeared. He read it out loud, his voice lowering as he was reaching to the tweet’s end.
@Y/Nunnie tweeted: “Y/N’s body suddenly dropped to the floor. The music stopped and so did the other members, who then gatherend around her. Soonah (your leader) picked her up, with some help from staff members. The lights went off, and when they returned, the stage was empty, only one staff member remained, who stood in front of the mic and said: “due to health issues, Y/N won’t be able to continue the show, please understand”. I hope she’s fineee :’((”
Joon stood there, trying to assimilate the situation, before going crazy...
He was mad, and oh god you hated it when he was mad. When he was this mad, he wasn’t cute, no, he was scary.
“Y/N, you heard me, you aren’t going to that tour” he pointed at you, the ugliest frown formed on his face
“Jiminie, baby, even if I wanted to, you know I can’t say no! I signed a contract, I need to go!” you tried calming him down, but it was in vain.
“Look at you, Y/N, look at the bags under your eyes! They aren’t even letting you sleep! How do they expect you can perform? And abroad!”
“Well...” you started, not knowing how to answer, until you found the best way “...how did you do it when you just debuted?” you crossed your arms over your chest, and watched as Jimin relaxed a bit, knowing you were right “....could you talk back to your manager, refuse to perform? Baby..” you sighed and held his hands “...I’ll be fine, I promise you” you pecked his lips and left with a smile, not sure if you were gonna keep that promise.
And you didn’t, Jimin realized while was boarding a flight to Mexico, where you were currently touring. Not a long time ago, he received a message, written by your friend and sent through your phone.
“Jimin, Y/N just collapsed while performing her solo song, I know it’s much to ask but she really needs you. Could you come?”
kim taehyung
Tumblr media
(ok i love this little ball of sunshine so much it breaks my heart he would be so sad if this happened)
He really wanted to go with you. He even insisted on asking your manager if he could join your tour. But no is no, and he had to stick to that, despite not agreeing. He not only was your number one fan and wanted to support his favorite person in the world, but he also wanted to have a close eye on you. You had been acting quite weird lately, arriving late at home, waking up too early, skipping some meals. He even caught you crying once, alone at the bathroom in the middle of the night. He was very worried, he knew your new comeback was bringing you a lot of stress, but what was worrying him the most was the fact that you weren’t talking to him about it. He understood that stress, but you still didn’t tell him anything. But he wasn’t a pushy boyfriend, he was going to wait for you to feel like talking about it.
In the mid time, and since he couldn’t join you on your tour, he decided to watch every live broadcast fans were doing during the concerts. He didn’t care about quality, as long as he could watch his girlfriend perform like the queen she is, he was happy.
He was locked inside his room, headphones on and Twitter opened, with the live broadcast of your show at Paris. He had a smile on his face, his favorite song was coming and he thought you always killed it in the dancing. He prepared himself for the performance of his life.
But his smile starting fading off when he saw you weren’t dancing, just walking around. He knew the performance by memory, and knew that during touring that choreography never changed. I mean, he has been watching every live broadcast, he knew the schedule by memory. He got near the computer, eager to find out what was wrong. The smile came back when he saw you joining your members on the choreo.
“Oh she was improvising” Tae said out loud, even giggling a bit.
When suddenly you stopped dancing and collapsed coldly to the floor. He held on to the chair’s arm, mouth wide open and eyes nailed on your motionless body. Your members gatherend around you and tried to wake you up. Fans started mumbling, while the music stopped all of a sudden. Since you weren’t waking up, a staff member came in running and picked your body up, carrying it to backstage as fast as he could. Your unnie followed behind, always having your back, and not intending to stop now.
Taehyung immediately grabbed his phone with shaky hands, trembling lips and  tears fiercely falling down.
jeon jungkook
Tumblr media
Oh boy he understood every concern you had. Being both the maknaes of each of your groups, you both understood the hard work you had to do to show you were as capable and professional as your unnies or hyungs. So instead of telling you off whenever you practised too much, he would stay by your side, to teach you to recognize your body’s limits.
However you were quite new to the idol life, while Jungkook had his years at it. And now your first tour was coming and your worry grew. How were you going to go on your own without your boyfriend? Jungkook reassured you you could do it, you were strong enough to do it. With a little bit more of confidence thanks to your most beloved best friend and boyfriend, you left.
Little did you know, he was making you a surprise visit. Since you were touring at Africa, he could take a quick flight and susprise you.
He was ready, bag on one hand, and plane ticket on the other.
“I’ll be fine, hyung!” he smiled as he spoke to Jin “...she doesn’t know I’m going, it will be awesome! If I need anything, I’ll call you”
As he was listening to Seokjin, his phone started buzzing with another phone call.
“Sorry hyung, I have another another call, give me a second” as he handed the air flight assistant, he changed calls “..Hello?”
“Jungkook-ah? It’s Jaesung, Y/N’s manager. She...she um, she collapsed, we are attending her right now. Her unnie Mina told us we should call you, we believe that’s what Y/N would want”
His hands felt numb as a tear rolled down his cheek and his bag fell from his hand.
Do you know where can I watch all the dramas I was watching in DramaFever?
Where Can I Watch K-Dramas now that Drama Fever Has Died?
That’s a great question anon, and the answer is different depending on where you live. I live in the states, and unfortunately Drama Fever was my top 2 option for watching dramas legally in my country. If you are in Europe or other countries though, you might have more options using apps you are familiar with. I’m not an expert on where to watch dramas outside of the USA, and with illegal sites things change all of the time but hopefully this helps?
Tumblr media
Legal Sites
Viki.com: Hands-down my favorite legal site/app to use to watch dramas is Viki. It’s a legal service that you can pay for to skip ads, watch on a roku or apple tv (my preference) and watch as things air. Also you can totally use it for free! If you don’t like to pay for content, you can just create an account and watch most of the older stuff (usually similar content to drama fever) and current stuff 3 weeks behind the schedule.
Netflix & Hulu: I’m putting these two together because let’s be honest: In the USA there aren’t actually that many k-dramas on these sites. Their catalog is annoyingly small. It’s really disappointing, because when I was in Japan a few weeks ago I opened netflix on my phone and there were sooooo many awesome shows available on there! WTF netflix? Why?! I’ve also heard it’s got tons of currently airing shows in Europe as well.
Viu.com: As someone from the states, this site’s service is not available to me. However, it’s a free site with a subscription option open to many Asian, African and Middle Eastern countries.
Note: I do think over the next few weeks, other options will appear OR current services will be getting more shows. It’s a double edged sword when something niche becomes popular. The good side is that the world appreciates what you appreciate AND they are able to enjoy what you enjoy. The bad side is that what you enjoy becomes harder or more expensive to come by than it previously was…we’ll see what happens!
Illegal Sites/Options
I personally hate watching shows on illegal sites simply because I prefer to watch shows on my television instead of my laptop AND I hate scrolling past porn site ads and dealing with broken content. On top of that (and i’m a weird person for having this viewpoint) I really like giving money to niche things I’m into (kpop albums, kdramas, artist made items, etc). It’s like feedback saying “Hey there! I want more of this in my life and am willing to pay for it.” However, with the licensing problems and Drama Fever dying, I’ve had to go back to some of them since I have no options.
Dramanice: This site changes urls all of the time because well, it’s freakin’ illegal! Right now the url is ondramanice.co if you used it before and noticed you can’t get to it at the old domains. *I’m not url linking it because I don’t want to give more alerts to the sites who try to police this stuff. This is my current favorite illegal site to watch the dramas that were on Drama Fever and not on Viki.
Kissasian: A lot of my mutuals use this site but I don’t because sometimes it’s wonky in it’s mobile version. But if you’re on your computer, it’s pretty much the same thing as Dramanice.
Torrents: If you’re old-school like me, you’ve probably used torrents before. I’m about to date myself hardcore but back in the day, the only way to watch anime was to illegally torrent subbed versions because there were no dvds or online sites for streaming (imagine that!! ;-) I haven’t torrented dramas because I was getting the shows I needed with viki and dramafever and let’s face it: Torrenting is actually a lot of work and takes commitment. Downloading speed depends on popularity and then if there aren’t subs you have to merge the two things together or wait for someone to do that for you. I’m not going to list torrent sites but anyone who wants to comment with the best torrent sites to use, feel free!
Social Norms in Korea
Social norms are actually a bit different here in Korea then in the US, which is something that didn’t necessarily surprise me, but I definitely hadn’t given it much thought before coming here. I’ve been here for over 2 months now, so I’ve gotten used to them and have even adapted to most of them. Obviously I won’t be able to go over all of them, but I will go over the ones that have been the most prominent to me.
1. Doing Makeup in Public: This is something that people will occasionally do in the states; someone runs out of time and does their makeup on the subway, or while waiting for the bus, maybe you’ll see someone doing touch-ups in the bathroom. However, here in Korea, people will literally do their makeup anywhere-- and I’m not talking small things like some mascara or applying lipstick-- no, I mean full face makeup. The girls in my class bring their bags of makeup to school everyday, and will literally do a full face of makeup in the middle of class. Yes, while the teachers are lecturing. They do their makeup while driving, while walking on the streets, on the bus-- anywhere and everywhere. (It’s also not uncommon for people to straighten/ curl their hair in public either).
2. Mirrors: They’re everywhere. Here in Korea, beauty standards are pretty up there. Appearance is important to say the least. So, of course there are mirrors everywhere. Actually, every girl in my class has a hand mirror that always sits on their desk. Most of the time the just spend the class looking at themselves instead of listening to the teacher. There are mirrors in elevators. There’s a mirror in every classroom at my school. On the other hand, there don’t seem to be a lot of mirrors in houses, which is funny. It’s not weird to just pull out a mirror here and stare at yourself in it pretty much anywhere (with exceptions of course).
3. Hair curlers: You know those things you’ve probably seen your grandma wear? (well, if your from the states at least) Usually an obnoxious bright color, they kinda have a rep for being an old lady item in the US. Yeah, well they’re everywhere here. Not only that, but I haven’t seen a single old lady use them-- no, only teen girls. Where I come from, no teenage girl would ever just walk around in public with one of these things in their hair. Korea, however, is a very different place. They will go anywhere with one of these things in their hair. No shame.
4. Wearing clothes with random faces on it: No, not the faces of celebrities or anyone well-known. There are hoodies and shirts with random people on them everywhere here. Go to any street market and you’ll probably find one. And they usually have cringey english quotes that either (a.) don’t make any sense, (b.) have numerous spelling mistakes, or (c.) both a and b. It’s quite weird. You probably won’t catch me wearing one of those.
5. Weird English (and French): Koreans seem to love using random english phrases/words everywhere. I see this the most on clothing. I’m not sure about other countries, but in the states you probably won’t see someone walking down the street with “Heyyy! Get out of my way! I cook well!” written across their shirt. Or, “MOMENT” and under that in smaller writing, “qulity time with god” (yes, they left out the ‘a’ in ‘quality’). Those aren’t even the best, just the ones I took pictures of. I guess their second language of choice to write random phrases in is French. (I almost bought a shirt that said “Fried Chicken USA”, but it was too big. Instead I got one that just says “American”, and while there’s not a spelling mistake, they did mess the flag up-- I’ll admit that’s the only reason why I got it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[EDIT] I took the 2 pics after I made this post. I saw both of these on the same day.
6. Music in Stores: Or rather, music outside of stores. Stores tend to play music louder outside of the store than inside the store. I quite enjoy this-- if I ever forget my headphones, I can hear 4 songs at once as I’m walking through the streets! Brilliant. But, really it’s actually kind of nice. What’s even better is the type of music they play. While many stores play kpop, and a few play western music, a lot of stores also tend to play EDM type music. You know, the kind without lyrics and intense beat drops. And they play it fairly loud too. Who doesn’t love head banging while they shop? Yesterday, I was in a clothing store and they played a song where the only lyrics were, “Girl you better f*ck me all night”. Iconic.
7. Alcohol: Korea is the biggest consumer of alcohol in Asia. Do you know how big Korea is? If not, go look at a map. (For my fellow Americans: it’s roughly the size of Kentucky or Indiana). Alcohol is everywhere. Korea is known for soju-- and many sojus have very high alcohol content. I’ve heard the taste is like a sweeter, lighter vodka. I’m not sure how reliable that description is though. Anyways, drinking alcohol is a very social thing here-- especially for men. Drinking age is 19 here, but many people drink before that.
8. Lack of Toilet Paper in Public Bathrooms: Not only do many public bathrooms not have toilet paper, but there also seem to be a lack of public bathrooms here in general. I find this extremely annoying, as I have a small bladder. There’s not even toilet paper in my school bathrooms. Many Koreans just carry tissues or toilet paper with them for this reason. It’s always refreshing when I find a bathroom with toilet paper. (There’s also a pretty good chance there will be no way to dry your hands after washing them).
9. Couple Outfits and PDA (Public Display of Affection): A lot of Korean couples reallllly like showing that they are in a relationship. Well, straight couples that is because Korea still isn’t a great country to be openly gay in. Couple outfits are everywhere-- whether they’re very obvious or more subtle, if you look around in a place with a good amount of people, you’ll find a few couples twinning. The PDA here, I don’t think it’s that bad, but maybe I’ve just gotten used to it. I just know there is not as much PDA in the US as there is here.
10. Brushing Teeth in Public: Another nice one. I see many people who will brush their teeth after they eat a meal in public bathrooms. In school, everyone (including me) has a toothbrush there, and after lunch, we all go to the bathroom, or to the teeth brushing station outside, and brush away. Hygiene is fun.
11. Spitting: This one’s not so nice. People seem to spit everywhere here. And they don’t do it quietly either-- no shame. You can hear someone hacking a loogie from blocks away (okay this might be a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean). I’ve seen someone just spit in the middle of the mall. Yep, right on the floor. I’m not sure why they do it, but they do.
Anyways, that’s all I have for now. If I think of anything to add, I’ll edit this later. I’m also going to make a post soon about being a foreign exchange student (specifically in my program, Rotary).
Small update on my life here:
I now have muay thai twice a week and crossfit once. I’m really enjoying them! They’re fun and a good way to keep myself from gaining a lot of weight! Also recently I’ve been making quite a lot of Korean friends! I bought about $50 worth of candy and gave it out at school on Halloween. Korea doesn’t really celebrate Halloween, while America does, so I thought it’d be a nice way to share some of my customs as well. A few weekends ago, the other exchange students and I got lost at 1 am and our parents had to come get us. I might do a post on that story later, it’s a good one.
But yeah, everything’s been going pretty well here!
Also, if anyone has any questions about Korea, being an exchange student, or even if you’re just curious about something, feel free to message me!
Goodbye! :D
I may have stopped using Tumblr, but I never stopped being an Ahgase
Hi, it’s been awhile hasn’t it? Nearly three years to be exact. More on that some other time-- I want to talk about GOT7. As we know, they are no longer under JYPE (bittersweet feels). Yesterday I came across this video by SBS where they compiled all of GOT7′s live performances they did there since debut. As I sat (and stood, and danced, and sang, and screamed) through the 1 hour 41 minutes and 54 seconds, I was taken down memory lane. I came back on Tumblr because I wanted to share that with y’all and if you’d like I would love for you to share too!
First video/song of GOT7 you watched/heard:  “I Like You(난 니가 좋아)" Dance Practice #2 (Boyfriend Ver.) I thought Jaebum was SOOO attractive here he made my heart race (I still think this way and he still does)
Era GOT7 was promoting when you became a fan: “Hard Carry” I remember waiting for and watching the Hard Carry reality show episodes! I really love their personalities
Your Age Then and Now: 18🠒22 I was in my very first semester of college then and now I’m graduating this May!
Favorite Era: “Fly” I didn’t know GOT7 at the time of this era, but watching back on their performances, I just really loved the soft boy vibe from some of the songs to their comfy pastel outfits
Favorite Song: If this was a year ago I would easily say “See the Light(빛이나)" is my favorite song and a big reason I love the entire FLIGHT LOG: Departure era. While I still adore that song with all my heart, “Wave” from their most recent and last album as GOT7 in JYPE makes me cry. The track, the vocals (rap line singing!), the lyrics. I wish there was a live performance of this song
Favorite Look: This won’t come as a surprise if you look through my blog, but my favorite looks on idols in general are boyfriend vibes, the chokers/leash trend and when Yugyeom had yellow hair.
Initial Bias, Current Bias, Bias Wrecker: Jackson initially caught my attention and I love his energy. But more videos I watched, the more I was entranced by Yugyeom’s dancing and his personality. A maknae like no other. Bias wrecker? They all have their moments. Whoever is currently in the center singing is a threat.
Any Concerts Attended: I was lucky to be able to go to the Chicago leg of the “GOT7 FLIGHT LOG: TURBULENCE IN USA 2017″ tour only months after becoming a fan as someone on Tumblr was selling their tickets last minute. Literally a week before the show my friend and I got the tickets. It was our first kpop concert so we thrifted some clothes we thought would make a cool outfit. Ah, times were simpler back then. This was their last time they toured in Chicago I believe, so I feel incredibly grateful of that experience.
Any Merch: I have very few items of kpop merch in general. No official GOT7 items :(  I did print out a hundred photos of them (and BTS) to make DIY custom photocards LOL. If they ever tour again I would most certainly buy an ahgabong
Anything Crazy You did for/because of GOT7: I’m a bit of an obsessive person, so other than printing out a hundred photos that I hand cut into photocards I also became the number one fan on GOT7′s channel on Vlive momentarily. I don’t recommend doing that-- I spent every day going through all their videos and left comments on each one.
Thoughts on Encore: Hahah I only made this section so I can talk about how proud I am of GOT7 and how proud I am to be an ahgase. They’ve worked so hard during their time in JYPE and I know they will continue to thrive in the paths they take next. I can’t wait for them to flourish and grow even more. Encore might’ve made me cry. Just maybe. I will support them as individuals, and I will always support them as GOT7.
If you’ve made it to the end, I would love to read your response in the comments or tag me when you make your own version of this! Much love to my fellow iGOT7, thank you for this community
Thank You For Your Last Gift To Us
Jonghyun, your last album is out and so are both of your music videos. I still can't watch them yet, still can't listen to the album yet. But I am already so grateful that you gave us this last gift. I am convinced that you prepared it with us in mind, already knowing the path you had finally decided to take. I'm so grateful that even at the end, you were thinking of us and with a true artist's mind, how you could leave your final imprint on the world- your legacy.
Since it came out, it started trending around the world, your songs ALL went up in the charts and even your albums debuted at #1 and #2 spots on the major charts in the USA. Your voice will be heard- your message will be heard, I promise.
I'm sorry I can't watch your videos yet or listen to your music, but it still hurts too much. Every day, I think about you. Every day, I look at your pictures beside my bed and wonder if you're ok now. I hope and pray that you are. I know that I'm being weak, but until I'm just a little bit stronger, I will have to wait for to watch and listen to your final gift. Because I know when I do, that it will truly be the last goodbye- the last thing we will ever receive from you. And I can't have such finality just yet. But still... even just knowing it is there makes me so grateful, so moved. To know you truly did prepare this for not just Shawol, not just Kpop fans, not just for music fans, but for ALL people in the world who are hurting and feel alone.
Your legacy is not that of your music and art, even. Your legacy is how even in your own dark moments and your final time on earth, you were still thinking about others- how you could touch, how you could heal, how you could encourage, and how you could help us grieve when the time came. Everything you ever did was for others, we see that now. We are just so sorry we couldn't help you back.
As always, Jjong, your final gift was a service to other people. Always thinking of others and showing compassion, even when no one understood you. And that shows exactly what kind of wonderful, beautiful, precious person you are.
You will never be forgotten, I promise you that. And please know that your legacy will always live on.
Until we meet again,
your loving fan
Just A Tiny Rant...sorry
Okay, so I really was looking forward to BTS doing these interviews over here in America. As an international fan who lives in the USA (except I’m on the east coast where it’s effing winter right now) This is basically the closest I can get to being in the same timezone as them.
For some reason, I thought the interviewers would have BTS talk about their new album, and them working with UNICEF in these interviews. Honestly, so far the only interviewers who seemed to try their best were Mario Lopez, Ryan Seacrest, and probably James Corden (I’m not sure if they did an interview tho, we’ll have to wait and see when the episode airs on tv)
I wanted the interviewers to ask questions like, “What made you want to work with UNICEF? Out of all the charities out there, what made UNICEF stand out?” or, “Since you debuted in 2013, you’ve been creating songs that deal with topics that aren’t typically discussed about in Korea, (please correct me if I am wrong though,) with songs like Whalien 52, I NEED U, Save Me, Run, Butterfly, N.O, etc, and even your most current songs, Go, Sea, and Skit: Hesitation and Fear. Were you ever nervous or afraid that you would receive negative feedback for pushing the status quo?” or also, “How was the process for creating Love Yourself: Her, different from your previous albums?” or maybe even, “What’s some advice that you would like to give to the people who are currently trainees, or are auditioning for companies to be in a kpop group?”
I’m just...kinda disappointed. I mean, I really should have expected that they would ask the questions that they did because I live in America and this is how the interviews always go down. But still...I was expecting a little more since they’re really the first kpop group to break all these barriers.
And all of these questions about asking them if they plan on doing an album in English. Really??? I don’t mean to be rude, but they’re a Korean band. Yes they have some English words in their songs, yes they’re doing a remix of Mic Drop that’s partially in English (That’s the latest I’ve heard, that it’s not all in English but a lot is.) But every kpop group throws in some English words, and yeah there’s usually one member that’s really fluent in English (that’s just something that I’ve begun to notice) But that doesn’t mean they’re going to do an entire album in English.
That wouldn’t be kpop. it would just be pop.
And I don’t know about y’all, but English is my native language and I screw up all the time. I swear English is the weirdest language of all time. For god’s sake, we have so many words that are either spelt the same but pronounced differently because they have different meanings, or they’re all pronounced the same but spelled different and have different meetings. And then trying to translate Korean into English, and vice versa, isn’t easy. There have been plenty of times where you can see Namjoon taking a second to figure out how to reword in Korean for the others so they can understand.
So you can only imagine what it’s like when you speak another language and you’re trying to learn English. It’s difficult as all hell. And Bangtan Sonyeondan, our men, on top of working for hours and hours of dance practices, writing songs, producing their albums, doing promotions, touring, keeping in touch with ARMY with V-lives and twitter and BTS Bombs, making sure they eat plenty and get enough rest, are studying to learn English so they can communicate better with I-ARMY.
They already do so much for us and here we are, repeatedly asking whether or not they’re going to create an album all in English, and asking the same questions over and over again.  It’s looks as if we don’t care about all the hard work they’re doing for us. That all the hardships the had to go through to get where they are today, was for nothing.
I’m just...really disappointed.
I apologize for my rant, but I just had to get it off my chest. Sorry.
Wait but literally in korean interviews they have talked getting boners on stage, watching porn, downloading porn, etc etc idk maybe ive been too americanized but although korean culture is more conservative its not as bad as some people make it out to be. I mean, hell, the show knowing brothers discusses almpst weekly having sex, females idols smoking, gambling, etc not trying to attack you or anything just wanted to say that bts are big boys n they can handle questions like these
Hi!! I don’t take it as an attack at all, I was definitely a little bit up in my feelings last night and didn’t think (that much) before posting. I’ll be trying to explain myself to everyone who wrote me:
Ellen became a little bit of a scapegoat I guess because it was literally the only teaser going around and I kept seeing it - I think my point with it was that almost every interview they’ve had in America has been so… sloppy. There was this one girl who asked who their favorite member was (which I still feel like isn’t something you would’ve asked 1D way back when… I mean, they’re humans.. not… favorite things?) but anyway, she asked and Jin jokingly replied “Jin.” but she didn’t really react to the joke until Jimin said “myself.” which leads me to believe she didn’t even know the names of the people she was interviewing.
I’m (of course) aware that people simply care more about the shocking, provocative topics rather than, say, their UNICEF situation. In South Korea, too! I didn’t mean it in the sense that BTS would feel offended or scared or anything, I just feel like, again, they didn’t do their research properly and just kinda asked “blanket questions” that could be asked to anyone and demanded little to no effort. (Edit: it makes it all seem as if they’re just using them because they’re trending, and not because there’s a genuine interest in them as artists, and it makes the interviews seem half-assed and rude at time. TO ME. And that sort of spirals into the situation that there’s a growing interest in the “cool” parts of korean culture, and that Hollywood is searching for ways to exploit it without being inclusive.) Like, I can imagine several of the journalists going “Oh, the chinese boys?”, because that’s how the investment looks from the outside. Which I, as a BTS fan, find shitty. But that’s just me and my feelings again.
I don’t know, media is all about clicks and attention in both South Korea and USA, and whilst those shows do exist, don’t think that they aren’t considered provocative and out there. And also, there’s a different type of provocative when it comes to talking about boners and then talking about dating. It’s illogical, but there is, it’s undeniable.
I mean, we all saw the JYP thing with the boys from EXO and women screaming at them not to date. It’s not a secret that dating is a big taboo until you’ve been an idol for the better half of a decade. Regardless, I’m positive BTS can handle it, it just seemed sloppy to me. I’m not trying to be a mama-bird and there’s no sense of like… protectiveness, they’re all older than me (Jungkook only by a few weeks but ya kno) so it’s really not about that.
Truly, it’s just become an internal fear that BTS in the states will boom koreabooism, cultural appropriation and fetishizing. I’m assuming you’re Korean-American, so you know all of this already. There were people saying kpop wasn’t a big enough category for BTS anymore??? That they were supposed to be called international now?? What’s that supposed to mean?? They’re producing korean popular music??? They’re still korean?? Literally besides RM none of them speak english??
Ok I could go on and on about this and perhaps I could never explain it well enough, but I hope it cleared it all up a little. I’m not trying to bash Ellen in particular and I think maybe the whole thing was a little distorted to me because I was in my feelings for a weak moment.
Top 5 Rookie Groups I Look Forward To This 2017
Last 2016, the Kpop industry gave birth to multiple groups with incredible talents. Compared to the past years, these rookies almost seemed like they are not rookies due to the professionalism they show even at the early stage of their careers. It looks like they worked really hard during their trainee days in order to achieve their dreams to become Kpop idols.
Each rookie group has its own concept and talent and one day, they will build their own identity as well. But these 5 rookie groups have captured me and I’m excited for what they will be showing off this 2017.
1. BLACKPINK
Tumblr media
Company: YG Entertainment Debut date: August 8, 2016 Members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa
Seven years after the debut of well-renowned girl group 2NE1, YG Entertainment debuts BLACKPINK. Many have been anticipating for their debut since 2012 but the debut date is always postponed due to undetermined reasons. But the wait was really worth it because the girls showed their exceptional total-package talent and were recognized globally. Their debut songs “Whistle” and “Boombayah” have topped the Billboard World Digital Songs chart, and were the third Korean act to do so after labelmates PSY and BIGBANG.  All of their singles have won several times on music shows. They were also awarded as “Rookie of the Year” on prestigious award-giving bodies such as Asia Artist, Gaon Chart K-Pop, Golden Disk, Melon Music, and Seoul Music Awards. Because of that, they are considered “Monster Rookie Girl Group”.
This 2017, I expect them to release more songs, grow incredibly as a group, and be more comfortable on stage like their senior groups BIGBANG and 2NE1.
2. Pentagon
Tumblr media
Company: Cube Entertainment Debut date: October 10, 2016 Members: Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, E’Dawn, Shinwon, Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino, Wooseok
They were first introduced through Mnet’s survival show Pentagon Maker, in which 10 trainees will compete against each other to determine the final line-up of Cube’s newest boy group. In the end, all of them debuted as a group. Their debut album Pentagon features their some of their self-composed songs. They made a comeback after two months with Five Senses and title song ‘Can You Feel It’. Right now, they are preparing for their debut in Japan and will release Japanese version of their debut song ‘Gorilla’.
I look forward for them to be recognized more because of their self-producing skills (and variety skills as well).
3. SF9
Tumblr media
Company: FNC Entertainment Debut date: October 5, 2016 Members: Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Rowoon, Zuho, Taeyang, Hwiyoung, Chani
Sensational Feeling 9 or SF9 is the first boy dance group from FNC Entertainment, which is home to Kpop bands like F.T Island and CNBLUE. They participated on FNC’s Survival show D.O.B (dance or band) as NEOZ Dance Team and competed against NEOZ Band Team. At the end of the show, they won and debuted ahead the band team. They released their single album Feeling Sensation along their debut date and promoted with the song ‘Fanfare’ and ‘K.O’, their winning track in D.O.B. Their first mini-album Burning Sensation reached #6 on Billboard’s World Album Chart.
This year, I hope they can create greater songs. People should also recognize this rookie group’s incomparable dancing ability.
4. Astro
Tumblr media
Company: Fantagio Entertainment Debut date: February 23, 2016 Members: MJ, Jinjin, Moonbin, Eunwoo, Rocky, Sanha
Even before debut, Astro has been making small acting projects. One week after debut, their first mini-album Spring Up landed at #6 on the Billboard World Albums Chart and #4 on Gaon Music Chart. Since then, they continuously gained recognition. They also performed in Los Angeles, USA for KCON 2016. Six months after debut, they held their first solo concert in Seoul, South Korea. So far, they have released 4 mini-albums and they just recently celebrated their 1st anniversary as a group.
Their concept kind of went astray to my usual Kpop music taste and it is actually refreshing for me. I wanted to see if they can make greater music, or if they can pull off a stronger concept.
5. K.A.R.D
Tumblr media
Company: DSP Media Debuted: N/A Members: B.M., J. Seph, Somin, Jiwoo
This co-ed group hasn’t had their official debut yet they already gained popularity both in South Korea and internationally. On December 13, 2016, they released their first project single titled K.A.R.D Project Vol. 1 with the track "Oh NaNa". Last month, they released Vol.2 with the track “Don’t Recall”. It is said that they are going to release one more project single before officially debuting as a group.
Co-ed groups are not common in Kpop. It has been long since a co-ed group debuted but they didn’t last long. Seeing the international recognition and positive response about K.A.R.D, I really hope they would break stereotypes and will change the Kpop industry with their music and charisma.
