I know that's like sometimes what ppl say when there's a straight pairing popular ship (makki) vs a gay popular one (maxneil) and they don't really mean it they just mean they have a uncomfortbilty or hatred towards one of the ships, but in my mind they're literally twins/hj

I have AUs where they're twins, half siblings, step siblings. I love them sm..There's even a line in one of the end credit rap songs that goes something like "we may not have the same color skin but imma treat em like my twin" and I'm like ah yes,,, something to feed into my delusions/j

But enough of my fannon delusions n self indulgence they're obviously not actually siblings they're best friends BUT they didn't start off that way no matter how sweet the "you now have three little bastards to deal with" line is bc in the first season, earlier episodes he's more of an asshole to her bc they're still getting to know each other.

He broke her instrument, quicker to basically tell her to shut up on multiple occasions, ect.

Back to the first episode, Max operates BIG on first impressions. Off the bat he's touching Neil's shoulder, he's impressed by his disrespect to authority, he wants to hotwire the bus with him. But Nikki? Hardly addressing her. Even says "why would you help us?" Bc despite biting him, she appeared to be just a 'little more violent, mini-David.' THAT was his first impression of her. Nikki didn't have his attention or respect technically until he learned her willingness to seek and cause chaos near the end of the episode. There's times at later points where she's clearly getting on his nerves.

I'm pretty sure I already wrote out a whole in depth thing about how Max has issues getting attached to people and will fight it off and deny it once it happens even at the cost of their feelings (points at camp corp episode) where as Nikki is a social person who has been denied a real friend til she came to camp campbell same as Neil, who is NOT a social person. They both start off clingy towards Max for this but Nikki works past it and makes 2 other friends while Neil doesn't.

So recap: Max builds a team of two other kids he can just share a common goal with at first, is a bit of a jerk to Nikki initially at times, but she grows on him and now he really values her as a friend n cares for her deeply.

But now onto NIKKI'S POV: She'd been bullied before, it was a traumatic experience for her yes but that's also the ONLY information we have on any past relationships she's had with peers, kids her own age. Any other time she's talking about someone she knew it's often just her mom. sometimes her dad (often not painting a good picture of him but through a childhood innocence lense) or an animal she knew.

So when she makes her first friend group in camp campbell her only prior experience with one is in the flower scouts. Nikki picked up bad habits from them bc she's a kid and doesn't have the emotional maturity to analyze her every behavior.

So when Max is being the type of person who was being quick to shut her down, who (in her own words) was micro managing her, and only ever seemed like he was having a good time when they were doing what HE planned to do, ofc she's gonna start harboring some complaints. Nikki isn't gonna sit down and talk about her feelings to him like an adult she's gonna do what the flower scouts taught her and you talk shit about the problem to OTHER friends.

This isn't to say she secretly hates him, no I firmly believe she deeply cares about him too but they're both flawed people so their friendship has flaws too that doesn't make it void of care for one another.

You can't unbiasedly hate on Nikki for that scene she's mocking him if you're not even taking into consideration WHAT her original issue was. Nikki shit talks, Max has control issues.

As episodes progress I think they really seem to work past it and become better people AND I THINK THAT'S RLLY SWEET I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP ❣️❣️

The way they interact with each other throughout the series really shows that their differences might cause some clashing but they have FUN together and I think their differences and problems just make them more interesting characters

7. Which character(s) do you dislike?

Torso, Tsuneyoshi, Kanou… I don’t really dislike anyone that isn’t a fairly standard “no thanks” for the fandom except for who I’ll include in the other 7 I recieved. 

10. Which character deserved more? Or was it more unfair? 

I’ve received two of these which is good because I have a few. I’m going to start with SHIKORAE GOOD GOD MY BOY WHY. I am a firm believer that he did nothing wrong. It's not his fault Kijima did this to him. He deserved another chance you hear me. He deserved to be loved. Healthily. No hate to the clowns, they're spectacular but their idea of affection is that it straight up isn’t real at best, and that it’s unattainable and only achievable in the form of violence and consumption at worst. I just want him somewhere he can live in relative peace alright. Also Kanae didn’t need to be treated quite that way, Eto didn’t need to die and be brought back just to die again, Tsukiyama didn’t deserve to never move past his unhealthy obsession and treated like a joke, and Touka didn’t need to be reduced to Cardboard Wife. 

16. Out of the millions of Kaneki personalities, which one is your favorite?

Haise! Sweet boy, single father making his way through the world and honestly not being half bad at it. Situation isn’t perfect but I like how he deals with things, genuinely looking for solutions without being afraid to speak up. I kind of wish he was his own character and the protagonist of the entirety of :re but you know people would’ve been furious. Also I love the texture and look of his hair. 240 is a favorite as well.

22. What's your opinion about the final? 

Of the first? A fun ride! It was a little difficult to follow but otherwise I enjoyed it. Of :Re? Who’s the :re finale? I don't know her.  Kidding mostly. It’s just such a rushed feeling thing, you’d think the clash between the main character and one of the strongest characters on the opposing side, (if not the strongest now that Arima’s dead and we have no way to really judge how strong Furuta is since Kaneki’s abilities get cranked up to a 1000) would have some gravity to it but no, it just flashes and whoops Kaneki lost. For once. Then he gets turned into a giant kakuja beast and kills hundreds of kids as well as countless civilians but of course we’re not going to have him suffer any repercussions, internal or external, or even address that because he wasn’t himself, he just wants to see Touka again. :(  Then he gets pulled out by the power of love, his aging problems are magically cured, he has suffered no physical disfigurement other than little eye marks, and inexplicably gains cross-shaped Kagune to smack Nimura into the afterlife. And after all that he’s a totally stable person who definitely isn’t going to be a bad spouse or parent despite the massive amounts of trauma he has! Because that makes sense! Regardless of how much you like Kaneki it just feels a little idealistic for him and overly uncaring for the other characters. That's why I like "The finale past the death of Nimu/Rize's destruction depending on what you like is Kaneki's fantasy of what could've been" theory.

26. If you could sacrifice any character to bring another back, who would it be?

I love Mirumo so much, but his existence is barely acknowledged past the extermination arc so he can go in exchange for

A. the death of the Tsukiyamas and the devastating effect it SHOULD have had on Shuu being acknowledged in such a way he perhaps even learns to start growing away from that sad blind devotion to Kaneki, B. Kanae. I just want them back. I don’t think it would necessarily improve anything I just miss them. Also if Seidou isn’t going to get any resolution ANYWAYS (I’m so mad about that and I don’t want him to die but I am a creature of efficiency) he could sacrifice himself in the finale in some grand gesture that actually gets him acknowledged, in exchange for Tatara and Houji getting more screentime and further development.

So about the other ship you mention... at first I was positive toward it but because of a few persons well I tend to be way neutral towards it now (and it's still the main thing in a minor AU of mine lol). Personally, I think, because of my view of Blood.borne world, the healing church, the research hall... that after the experiments began on her it doesn't really work/make sense for me anymore... But I won't go bother people who imagine/interpret a softer version just to be happy and have fun ! got for it guys!

But for real the wort ship experience I had so far was in Kingdom H/earts fandom XD (love this series too) imagined you follow smn cool (twi.tter) and they indirectly punch you? Nobody is saying not keeping tabs is equal to hating. It’s the mocking and the unnecessary judgement that some of you feel ‘entitled to’ just bc you call yourselves his/her fans and want to exercise some kind of ownership . Yes I am addressing both sides of the aisle. Also, no it’s not me saying, it was Colson that said as intuitive individuals they literally feel the hate coming from millions of people.

Please don’t give me the ‘they are public figures and that’s why they should be open to criticism’ cliched argument. The fact that some of you have so much hate for either of them separately or as a couple, even while you don’t have an inkling of any of their struggles or inner dynamics reflects the kind of moral values you hold dear . The fact that some of you resort to skewed narratives of isolated incidents in their lives to justify bullying and hate is really concerning. For example maybe just listen to what Colson had to say about himself before giving scathing opinions of their relationship: ‘If someone is with me for 48 hours they will see the gnarliest of mood swings of their life’. Again before someone comes at me this is paraphrasing of his statement but the gist is accurate. Or take the example of Megan who has said she suffers from deep childhood trauma from the abusive upbringing.

And here we are lecturing about how we think they are not a healthy couple or whats toxic or non-toxic behaviour in our opinion as if they are oblivious about their struggles. It’s so easy to give up on the other person especially when the whole world is cheering for it and yet they fight against all odds for love.

Please consider this that at the end of the day they are real flawed people with real feelings and not some archetype of supervillain characters for you to project your insecurities. Maybe reflect back and ask yourselves if the constant judgement & bullying is really worth it and if death of someone’s relationship is what your folded hands truly seek as a prayer.

The fact that some of you literally bullied her into a mental breakdown and shun public life and still thirst for more blood is both sad and tragic !!!

Here's the thing: I'm not going to act like I don't gossip and talk nonsense on my page, because I do, and I've never presented otherwise. I try to be fair in my judgments and take what little is out there because that's what they are presenting to the public and their fans. I don't have a mole crawling around their home giving me the inside scoop of what's going on in the home, so taking what they say and do at face value is expected for me, just like it is for a lot of others. I give grace when I feel like it's required. They are humans; they make mistakes, but no mistake is without consequence. And since my blog is filled with opinions, people will share their thoughts about what they do as a couple and as individuals.

I think Megan and Colson had too much dip on their chip to think that they were going to be the pioneers for "reintroducing" love back into the world. Their goal in the beginning made absolutely no sense, because what qualifications did they have for their relationship? They were together for barely two seconds with a relationship founded on lying to other people. Matching outfits, ayahuasca retreats, and star signs were hardly innovative. In fact, I remember them getting compared to Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton for their blood thing.

They were weird and overly provocative in the beginning, so I'm not the least bit surprised that people got annoyed with them. I could go deeper into this, but their decision to pull away had very little to do with the public, in my opinion, and more to do with the fact that they didn't want to keep repeatedly showcasing their problems on a global scale. But you can feel free to disagree with me on that.

Now I don't know a thing about this supposed mental breakdown (or perhaps it's slipped my memory) because outside of this relationship I don't really check for Megan, so I'm sure someone will educate me on that, so there is nothing I can say in regards to that situation.

I have so much to write about but I have to go to bed soon. So I may not get it all out atm but I will between tonight and tomorrow.

My mom is having the surgery tomorrow. She's getting the bag. I haven't fully been able to cope with that reality as I've been obsessed with the dog and all her contaminates.

I met with Mike and vented like crazy. Like fucking crazy about Riley and it did help a little, I could save Riley bc the paperwork isn't registered to my sister or my mother or our address, however- my sister will evict me and my mother will hate me. So I still can't, especially with my mother having the surgery tomorrow.

She has a good attitude about it. I'm not going to lie, a really good attitude about it but she's in so much pain that it's like, she can't eat. She hasn't eaten real food in a week... and she just wants to eat.

My attitude about it is, I wish I could save her. I wish I could have it not be a thing. I wish I could fix her. I wish I could take her pain away. I wish she wouldn't have her organ exposed through her stomach...

My sister said something to liv about it- if she stays sober and wants to find a guy, no one would date her. She said i wouldn't date someone with that. I hardcore object to that.... I would kill myself if I had to have a bag no fucking doubt and I wouldn't go looking for people who have them.

However if Elise has one and she showed up for me, I'd make sure she felt beautiful everyday. I love her unconditionally though, regardless of anything. She could lose her arms, her legs, she could lose her hair, everything, I just love that soul. That's what it comes down to.

If it was someone else if their personality shined and whatever I would still date them. If it was Elise I wouldn't even hesitate but I'd cry for her and talk about how sad I was to my therapist that she has to live like that. That she didn't feel attractive. That she couldn't control her bowel movements.

Anyways, I still haven't looked at what it looks like, i don't want to know. I can't help her with it. I don't want anything to do with it. I'm going to cry. We are all meat bags. Just a bunch of meat, cells clumped up together and arranged and somehow we live a life.... and that's why I believe there must be a soul in every human. Of course dogs and cats. Prob every animal.

But I think the saddest part. The part of me that wants to cry but I'm trying not to... is i feel like for the very first time in my life I'm actually getting to know my mother. She's sober. She's been sober. I'm finally talking to the soul behind her eyes. She's not just a drunk falling over and screaming shit at people. I always knew that but alcohol makes people fucking nasty.

I remember I said to Elise- my biggest problem with my mother is when she dies, I will never have known her. I'll only know what she was like with alcohol poisoning her. And now i finally feel like I'm getting to know the real her.

And her sober reality is being in so much pain. She can't eat. She cant sleep. She can't poop. She is going to have to look at her organ exposed in full blown reality. And I can't save her. I can't help her.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad there is a procedure like this so she can live instead of die. But I'm still worried about the mass on her ovaries.

She's finally in there. I've spent so much time with her even though she's bitchy sometimes and it's hard to watch her scream in pain. But when her pain is managed... that's the real her.

I'm worried she's going to die. I'm worried that she won't come home. I'm worried she will be depressed. I'm worried about everything.

I want her to come home, stay sober. Have them put her back together... and then have her stay sober and have the ovary thing be fixed and actually know my mom. God I want to cry I wish I didn't write this.

I'm going to be a basketcase tomorrow. I hope she can handle it. I know I can't see it. I hope I can sleep.

Unfortunately this post can be immediately disproven by the fact that LB has on multiple occasions mentioned the Grisha being an oppressed class and mentioned that they're based on Jewish persecution. This person hasn't read the books and clearly hasn't used their brain when interacting with fandom, so let's go over a few things!

Before the Little Palace, Grisha were hunted and slaughtered in Ravka for being born the way they are!

After the Little Palace, Grisha are serfs and rely fully on the Tsar's benefaction to remain afloat. They do so through proving how "useful" they are to the war efforts. If the war ended, Grisha wouldn't be able to be "used" by their oppressors, and would once more be subject to genocide!

Grisha life in the Little Palace parallels the ghettoization of Jews.

Alina's loss of power is a direct parallel to forced assimilation as well as the lobotomies often inflicted on gay people throughout history.

In the Wandering Isles, Grisha are hunted and killed for their blood.

In Shu Han, Grisha are captured alive and vivisected.

In Fjerda, Grisha are tortured and burned alive!

In Ketterdamn, Grisha are said to be indentured servants, but are basically enslaved.

Grisha are often enslaved throughout the world, and are captured often to be sold into slavery, tortured, experimented on, or killed.

Grisha have been the victims of multiple attempts at genocide.

After Alina, Grisha persecution gets worse. More are killed, more are sold into slavery, and more are captured. Not only that, but they are now being captured to be raped and breed powerful children by the Fjerdans, after the invention of a drug that puts them completely under the control of others.

How interesting it is to criticize the fundamental problems with the Grishaverse - that the allegory for powerful people as an oppressed group doesn't work - and take that as an excuse to bury one's head in the sand and ignore an entire race's persecution because you hate one character so much you cannot even form a comprehensive analysis of him.

The only person undermining racism and classism here is you. When Alina wasn't Shu in the books and her identity as a Shu woman in the show is barely addressed except to undermine the racism Grisha face, you really show your whole ass trying to argue the other way around.

The only thing you're right about is people saying the harmful themes in LB's books mean she's anti real world liberation. The Grishaverse is structured like puritanical loyalist propaganda supporting repression and assimilation, and her story shows a level of extreme ignorance in how oppression actually occurs within society, but that doesn't mean she's a Holocaust supporter or against real world liberation. It's strange to think people are saying that unironically. She based her books on real world events that she clearly doesn't fully understand, but that doesn't make her malicious, just ignorant.

Her writing comes across and sexist and bigoted, and she fumbled the Grishaverse hard by trying to make the Grisha a Jewish allegory and then failing to properly address it, especially when she continued to add enough propaganda to fill a country and enough white centrist reasoning to topple revolutions. But that seems more like bad writing from a beginner novelist and the ideals of someone who has a family history of something whilst still holding centralized American beliefs about it. Not the actions of someone intentionally bigoted like say JK Rowling.

I really don't understand why Taylor Swift and Daenerys Targaryen get so much hate! Almost all of it is unearned too.

Taylor is hated for writing songs about her life and experiences? For dating people? Wtf? How is any of that wrong? I mean, other artists have actually done bad things (committed crimes!) and they're still loved and supported but Taylor just exists and people are hating on her lol. Like get a life already!

And people calling her a bad lgbt+ ally is so freaking annoying. She was not making it all about her. She was saying everyone should chill and celebrate themselves and each other. And I'm part of the lgbt+ community so my opinion is valid on this subject. I don't see many other celebrities celebrating this community, especially ones as popular as Taylor Swift! Daenerys freed slaves for no other reason than to help people bc she was once a slave, whether you think she was or not. She understands what it's like! And she doesn't want that for anyone, so, she uses what power she has and does what she can to help people with it. She holds privileged men accountable for their actions and their crimes, but she's the villain? Yeah, no. That's not what's happening here! I know none of us are used to seeing men held accountable for their actions or crimes but the fact that people try to say it's a bad thing for someone with the power to deliver true justice, to make rapists and slavers pay for what they've done, that's just messed up y'all. I prefer to see the privileged held accountable for the injustices they've committed than not, sorry not sorry.

I wanna share a story that happened yesterday where I was harassed in a gas station by an aggressive black male security guard and get nonblack poc feedback bc I no longer feel safe around black men and just curious to what advice or thoughts you have.

Last night I walked inside a pilot gas station to use the restroom where I wore a yellow camo track suit with the hood up bc I was cold. The security told me to take my hood down even tho there was no policy where I could see and followed me to the restroom door and called me out my name (I heard him thru the door), after I finished in the restroom I went to confront him at the register he was hiding behind where we got into a heated verbal exchange , I cussed him out amd I hurt his ego evidently bc he felt the need to follow me outside to escalate it but I outtalked him and got in my car. I never took my hood down. I went back in the gas station with a girlfriend for water after informing her of what happened where he then tried to make me remove my hood again and tried to encourage the women at the registers to refuse me service bc I wouldn’t remove my hood, we got into it again. He was aggressive, approached me slamming his hand on the counter, got loud, and sensitive bc I got the best of him twice verbally and in the end I still got the water and never took my hood down; the nice white lady at the register took my money from my friend who paid for it, the black woman at the register was a m@mmy. He nitpicked my outfit and physical appearance but ppl passing thru wore hoods and had pants hanging off their asses, tummy shirts, brought dogs in the store, but was never harassed like I was. I don’t have a problem following a policy but I won’t follow a policy when it’s enforced on me but no one else. So I called the police and they told me to file a complaint with corporate and see what I can do about it so I will be calling them in the morning. Did I mention the security tried to get me banned for trespassing just bc i didn’t back down and verbally whooped him?? LOLL!!! watched episodes 3 and 4, putting this under a read more cut bc it's long and spoiler-y

i enjoyed episode 3 at least! they definitely squish a lot of events from book 1 (plus a few from book 2 iirc??) into this episode and turn it into a "omashu, city of conspiracies" story, which i didn't mind because it kept this version of the series fresh while still keeping with the themes of the horrors of war and imperialism. jet was legitimately cool here so you see why katara liked him so much, though the whole grass-in-mouth thing looks waaaaayy dumber in live action than in a cartoon. i also liked how they handled teo and the mechanist.

one thing this series does more than the original is consistently show you how cunning and how much of a threat the fire nation is. in ep 1 you see sozin set a trap against a bunch of earth kingdom messengers plus they actually show the air nomad genocide, and here in ep 3 you have azula doing an undercover sting for an assassination plot. i understand why they weren't necessary for the original series but for this series it does introduce the threat of the fire nation in a neat way.

(i've seen a lot of criticisms of the netflix series that basically boil down to "why didn't they just copy the original" and my dude... if i wanted to watch the original it's literally also on netflix lmao. i like it when this series changes things in ways that make sense and build on the world and characters. showing more of the fire nation's crimes falls in that category for me.)

i have more mixed feelings on episode 4... mostly i liked the zuko and iroh subplot. i loved the portrayal of their bond and how they both supported each other at their lowest... zuko having had a cousin bond with lu ten was such a nice touch?? and zuko genuinely connecting with iroh over their grief?? soooo good. and i liked too that this episode addresses iroh's role as the general of the siege of ba sing se and the toll that took on people, something the original series didn't have room for. admittedly i disliked that the earth kingdom guard was portrayed as being too far gone for being angry at iroh like... he's a former war criminal ok that guy has every right to be mad

the sokka and katara subplot was... okay i guess. i didn't like how katara's ptsd was instantly solved by jet in the previous episode and then she can waterbend properly!! nooo her frustration & anger over her waterbending journey was such a big part of her character in book 1 and now it's just... gone. sokka's character arc here is different, instead of him unlearning that he doesn't know everything it's about him being insecure over not being the perfect warrior. and his engineering skills are seen as a nerd hobby now?? i don't know yet how to feel about this one. admittedly i don't hate it.

the secret tunnel minstrels appeared for a scene and they were fun and had the spirit

bumi tho... the bumi character assassination ugghghgh i was so disappointed!! like yes becoming cynical over the last 100 years because of the war is not out of the question, and characters don't have to be carbon copies of their cartoon counterparts, but the portrayal here just felt so mean-spirited. idk i felt like aang was being used as a punching bag for no real reason. and bumi's eccentricity felt so pointless this time?? his games and eccentric ways are meant to illustrate to aang that in order to be the avatar and solve the world's problems, he needs to be creative and not get trapped in old ways of thinking. here it just comes off as him being an ass like him ordering a servant to bring him tea from xyz ingredients and then getting mad at said servant because he changed his mind / forgot about what ingredients he wanted... okay...

watched the first two eps of netflix atla yesterday and i'm bothered by all the seemingly small decisions that fundamentally change the characters. like aang flying away from the southern air temple with appa wasn't him trying to escape his avatar duties, it was just him needing to pause and breathe (and imo the original reason would have still worked w this angstier interpretation of the character). katara loses SO much of her drive and passion bc the series changes (so far) two things: the waterbending scroll is a gift from exposition machine gran gran instead of something she gets for herself, and the decision to go to the NWT is because of kyoshi revealing the future instead of katara (and aang) wanting to learn waterbending. and i'm like wtf!! katara wanting to learn waterbending such a powerful motivation, she was angry at the fire nation and tired of feeling powerless and she channeled those feelings into her desire to learn bending. and now those things are gone!! so what's katara gonna do now!! i hope they at least replace it with an equally compelling character arc for katara in later eps or i would be more upset

So I agree with you re the rushed part of the ep. It was, very much so at the end there. However… as was pointed out by the actress whose name I can’t remember but plays Mia on Twitter, apparently SVU is called in in RL to back up hate crimes when they’re short handed so, that’s real.

I think everyone is being a little too quick to say no aftermath for Liv shooting someone when it was literally at the end of the ep and she was clearly affected by it. Maybe give them a chance before we say they’ve brushed it off? Next episode at least.

Finally. I’ve noticed that they’re piling a LOT onto Liv this season. Car crash, injury, retirement being mentioned, McGrath, her threatening to quit, Burton, Elliot related stuff and now this? There were other options, they could’ve easily had Murphy shoot the guy but they didn’t so idk, maybe there’s something going on, a longer term thing that we can’t quite see all of just yet.

Yeah the thing is we've been saying "they're piling a lot on Liv, maybe they're building towards something" since s21. When is that payoff gonna come exactly? Like we've been waiting. The hits keep coming and we keep saying "maybe they're gonna do something with this" and then they don't. They are starting to lose my faith and y'all know how hard I try to look up.

Yeah they could have had Murphy shoot the guy but given how proud WL seems to be that Liv "saved the city"it looks they wanted it to be her bc she's their girl, not bc something is gonna come of it. The reason I'm not super confident that they're gonna follow up on the shooting - which they could! And they should! One line would do it! - is that recently they haven't been following up on anything.

And I am saying that the fact that it was literally at the end with no follow up is the problem. The fact that they didn't give time to have even one of her friends come to her when Declan walked away, the fact that they haven't laid any groundwork for what comes next (and that they have for the last two seasons repeatedly dropped storylines and so given us no reason to believe there will be any "next" is the problem). The fact that it literally just ended with a weird "merry Christmas" that felt so out of place, that it literally just ended with "Olivia finally sees the bad guy who's been pulling all the strings who we don't really know anything about, who she certainly doesn't know anything about, and he's dead one minute later and all her friends walk away from her" was rushed and unsatisfying.

And again!!! Maybe they will touch on it next episode!! You're absolutely right. But you gotta acknowledge how hard it is to have that confidence in the writing team after the last two seasons spent going "maybe they'll address it next week" and them not doing it. You gotta understand why people are frustrated.

And like "that's real" yes, yes it is real, but it is not the focus of this show, and I do not think these writers have the depth to pull off these kind of stories well. SVU is about special victims, and that's not what we had here, and what we did have was not handled with grace. It's not "why would a real life svu cop be there" it's "why did the show make this choice" and it just feels so forced. Like it just feels like the writers don't wanna be writing svu anymore.

literally I was watching someone's playthrough of pesterquest as it was being released, and I almost finished it, but then I got spoiled for the fact that Ult Dirk shows up, and it totally knocked me off the wagon. like I've had it in my head that eventually I'll go watch Dirk's content, but it's been so long since I watched everything else... by this point it'd be kinda disjointed to even do that.

also, I was weirdly irritated by MSPAR in pesterquest? I found them so charming in hiveswap, because they were characterized as kind of a bumbling, overeager and well intentioned traveler that just wanted to help. but in pesterquest they get all know-it-all ish... it's reeeeeeally off putting. like I could forgive them being confused or disheartened, but they went a step too far and got all cynical and been-there-done-that, and gave a lot of advice that just wasn't good? as if they were some sort of expert or something. it makes pesterquest kind of irritating because you play as an irritating audience surrogate character who does shit that you don't actually want to do.

like, okay, Eridan's route, right? at the end, the advice MSPAR gave was basically "stop being an asshole" which is like... warranted and fair? but first of all, this Eridan needs different advice than homestuck's Eridan! and second, would a real asshole actually take advice like that? it's so... basic.

Eridan is a character that I'm not super attached to, but I get peeved when people get him wrong. in homestuck, the thing that Eridan needs, is to realize that if he wants something from another person, he has to try not to be a leech about it. everything is all about his perspective all the time. when he wants something, he'll ask, but if he doesn't get it, he'll whine and beg, and if people get mad at him for doing that, he gets all self deprecating and bemoans how hopeless his situation is, and how much everyone hates him. like he'll literally annoy one person into getting fed up with him, just so he can go cry to another person about his problems, and ask them for advice that he probably won't even take, because getting attention was the point, and this is technically what he wanted anyway. and the more people catch on and get frustrated, the more fuel he has for his "everybody hates me" pity party.

and the interesting thing about Eridan is that all of this probably comes from a real worry that nobody could like him, even if he tried. I mean, most of his friends are lower on the hemospectrum, and have a systemic reason to hold some sort of resentment towards him. so like, he probably likes Feferi because the two make an appropriate match class-wise... but he also probably likes her because she's his only friend that is more privileged than he is, so she can't hold his status against him.

also, pesterquest leans into that old fanon thing where Eridan is indiscriminately desperate and will date anyone. like... no! originally, Eridan specifically wanted to fill all of his quadrants! he wanted a matesprit (Feferi), a kismesis (Vriska), an auspistice (Kanaya), and a moirail (possibly Karkat). and not only that, but he wanted these specific people to fill these specific roles for him unconditionally and without conflict, in spite of their actual feelings. Feferi doesn't want to date him... she doesn't even really want to be his moirail because she's doing all the emotional labor and it's exhausting. and Kanaya had a red crush on Vriska at the time... the last thing she wants is to be auspistice-zoned! meanwhile, Vriska is becoming less and less interested in Eridan anyway because she's got her own unhealthy fascinations with certain people. so like, Kanaya wouldn't even be acting as a proper auspistice anyway... she wouldn't be helping to calm a volatile rivalry, she'd be trying to force a lackluster relationship to continue. that's like, the opposite of how it's supposed to be!

literally the only one of these that might've worked is Karkat as his moirail, because Karkat is amazing at giving advice, and dealing with difficult people's bullshit without getting sucked into too much drama. but like... that's probably the one relationship out of all of these that started from genuine charisma between two people, rather than Eridan deciding who he wanted to pursue based on a checklist of socially advantageous qualities. at least with that, it's implied that Karkat also likes talking to Eridan... like, both of them are getting something out of this. in all other cases, Eridan isn't even in it for the romance. he's in it to gain validation by living up to a societal standard.

it's only after our 12 trolls end up on the meteor after their SGRUB session that Eridan starts getting all weird about dating people other than the specific four he was already interested in. and that's specifically because there are now only 12 trolls left that exist. these people are the only ones left, so if he can't get a relationship to work with any of them, that's that. so basically, when pesterquest characterizes him this way, even though he still lives on a fully populated Alternia... why is he acting like that?

Eridan needs to learn how to actually put something into a relationship that he wants to get something out of. and to do that, he needs to believe that he has value beyond his status, and that it's possible for people to be motivated by more than class politics and spite. he treats people exploitatively because he expects them to try and exploit him just as badly... it's not just about fixing bad behavior. it's about him learning to put in work, and give another person reasons to like him, without feeling like a sucker for conceding any ground. the more defensive he gets, the worse he is.

and pesterquest messed up Jake's route too! what is it about hope players that stumps people like this?? I get that Jake is tricky, but jeez... I won't get into it as much, but Jake is always masking what he really feels, and the way his route handles him makes him seem like he's acting equally neutrally friendly to each of the other alpha kids. but then it implies that his true feelings are that he considers all three of his friends' romantic interest in him to be equally serious, and equally unwanted. that is... blatantly untrue. he knows Roxy might find him attractive but won't make a genuine move on account of Jane. she literally drunkenly told him so. and Roxy also drunkenly told Jake that Jane likes him. meanwhile, he also pretty much knows that Dirk had a crush on him when they were kids, but back then he kind of shut it down, or at least sent mixed signals, because he wasn't confident about having a crush on a boy. now Dirk himself is not confident that Jake actually likes him, and is trying to back off because he feels like his younger self was overly aggressive, but the AR is still as brazen as Dirk used to be when pursuing Jake, so it kind of undermines that attempt. still, Jake feels like he might've already come off poorly to Dirk. he does like him though... and he knows that Jane has a crush on him, and doesn't want to be the one who disappoints her, so he weasels his way out of addressing it. that is the deal with the alpha kids. not Jake just kind of bemoaning the fact that all of his friends are in love with him and he's not down for anything. so once again, we see a pesterquest route written on the basis of mistaken assumptions.

sorry for going on and on and on... I just find all of this so frustrating. half the characters are only the fan interpretations of themselves, and MSPAR sucks, and the meta is confusing, and... I wish it was good but it's not.

I love you for this ask anon, I never played friendsim but I did see a lot of people who tuned into all the friendsims express annoyance over the way Reader was portrayed in pesterquest. I can't even remember what happened in the Jake route bc I'm tired but it definitely could've been better.

Imo, best alpha kid routes go from: Roxy, Jane, Jake, and Dirk (half his route wasn't even dedicated to him lol rip)

I only ever watched the ep Adam was a guest but from what I’ve read here they never go deep into any storyline or any subject that could be better explored; Hell, we’re not even asking for them to say it was wrong to cast a 16yo to have intimate scenes with 24+to men, they could easily blame it on “it was the 00’s and it was, but holy shit, they can’t take their blindfolds for even a second, it seems. Now they’re starting to give their opinion on how SHIPPERS were responsible for the main couple of the show not breaking up?💀 I watched it when it first aired and I used to ship Seth and Anna, even then when I wasn’t involved in fandom at all I knew I could only dream of Seth ending up with Anna, so I felt so safe shipping RM bc I just knew they were meant to be since ep1, but ofc they had to k*ll her.

It’s like there’s this bitterness in this pod, I can’t explain, I just feel like they resent Mischa for not wanting to use the show to get $$$ nowadays, just like when Adam said he wouldn’t like to do a reboot and they were being embarrassing around him. Sorry for those who think these women have this fondness and nostalgia for the show without any interest on getting something out of it, but I think that’s what they want and they’re not really capable to separate their experience or whatever and watch it in a way they can fully analyze and acknowledge the awesomeness and the ugly parts of that story. I sound so mean but really after these asks you received recently I just think they’re distorting facts a bit and I can’t stand when people blame fans for x happening or not happening in the show.

Yeah it's just a disappointing pod to me. I think there was a lot of potential for it to get into the meat of storylines and themes but it's all just very glossed over. Sometimes they barely mention the episode they're supposed to be talking about (this was in the early pod days–I don't think they do this anymore).

Aw, I loved Seth and Anna. I think the disintegration of their relationship was handled really poorly to move SS forward. And I thought it sent a toxic message that you couldn't date or be in love with your best friend.

i played two castlevania games, both from the nintendo gameboy era, so please don’t get mad at me, gamers

details below the cut, but since i’ll be talking about season three, i need to preface this with content warnings for mentions of: graphic violence, rape and sexual violence, racism, and the holocaust

before i get into it, i usually don’t go for alucard-type characters either, but knowing that he was redesigned to be bishounen sexy specifically because the boring, middle aged man look he originally had in the games wasn’t appealing makes me enjoy him. and he’s fun with trevor and sypha

do like:

the voice acting

it’s all good. i can’t think of any characters whose voices were awkward or fit poorly. they don't make sypha’s va use the standard flat affect or false high voice women tend to be assigned, trevor sounds suitably worn out but not monotone, and alucard sounds exhausted but in a sexy way

and the spanish dub is killer, arguably superior

the animation & design

it isn’t full-on artsy, but it’s definitely got a distinctive style that’s easy to look at. the color use and effects are gorgeous. it’s a story set in the medieval era, and the mixture of desaturated and oversaturated elements works so well with that

dracula’s castle and the belmont bunker aren't revolutionary in design, but they didn't need to be. they're suitably creepy and empty, and i enjoyed them

the monsters were unique enough to have obvious different types, and the scene where a monster commits blasphemy in a church by accusing a priest of committing blasphemy was good writing

lisa

she shows up to a stranger’s spooky home and scolds him for being rude. she really looked an ancient vampire in the face, told him he had no manners, then had a kid with him. what a phenomenal woman. 11/10, no notes

dracula

this ancient, unfriendly vampire let a human woman walk into his home and tell him he’s got no manners. and that made him fall in love with her. just like that. lisa walked in and handed him his ass, and dracula thought “oh i love her”. and when she was killed (more on this in the bad section), he raised literal hell to destroy the world for doing it

speaking of lisa being killed, it fucks me up that it happened because she convinced him to leave the castle and experience the world. he left her alone to see what she loved so much, only to come back and find that the people he’d come to like- the people lisa had loved so much it drove her to help in a way that got her killed- had burned her at the stake. i love a good tragedy, and that’s good tragedy

the way he weeps when he has to fight alucard?? during a showdown in their home?? the “i must already be dead” moment in alucard’s childhood bedroom??? when he speaks to lisa about killing their boy, her greatest gift to him??? poetic cinema.

the trio’s dynamic

he's got a stupidly low neckline and lower pants. they really leaned into ayami kojima’s redesign, as they should have. his little curl annoys me, though. why the fuck does he have a random section of hair that’s like three inches long when the rest is shoulder length or longer? love that he really looks like lisa

trevor

disgusting. a nasty man whose appearance mirrors his state of mind. he's 50 mental illnesses in a dirty jacket and his coping mechanism is… alcohol? maybe? he’s a mess, and i dig it

him trying his trick of kneeing alucard in the balls during their fight? and finding out it doesn't work? (which…… why doesn't it……?) juvenile but suitable

hector

his love of animals makes him my favorite. normally, i won’t touch anything with this much animal death, but i’m willing to set that aside because hector loves them so much. he’s so sweet and kind, and he loves his monster pets

yes he sided with dracula and has some really fucked up ideas about what constitutes humane treatment of people, and yet i love him. 11/10, but i have a lot of notes

isaac

i support him, including his murdering and his decision to support dracula. dracula throwing him out of the castle to save him was so cruel in that it was an attempt at kindness from a man who hated the whole world, but it was against isaac’s wishes

his time with the captain was great

idk enough about islam to know if he's portrayed correctly and haven’t seen any complaints, but given the show’s track record……… i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not great

the forging

very cool. fresh and interesting! hector creating pet friends is cute and heartbreaking. love isaac for his dedication to reducing, reusing, and recycling

season 2’s big battle with all those vampires

the new version of “bloody tears” is phenomenal

this goes back to the animation, but listen……. it's so good. i loved the smoke vampire, and alucard’s fluid wolf transformations. his flying sword looked really good, and incorporating them together? super good to watch. and trevor’s whip?

the type and level of violence are suitable for what it is. it would be weird for a gritty show like this to be bloodless, but i don't think it would work if it were bloody to the extent of a slasher. it's also more clean violence, if that makes sense. you don’t linger just to look at gore; you see it because stabbing someone spills blood. the games weren't about extended, gritty scenes of realistic murder, so the show sticking with quick, slice and dice type fights fit with what i remembered of them

trevor’s whips

trevor’s weapons don’t follow the physics of normal whips, and they shouldn't. they’re heavily stylized and clearly a fantasy weapon, but they still have rules that they (mostly) have to obey. his morning star-whip hybrid in particular is so good 

it’s easy to follow, too. a lot of times, speedy weapons disappear, which is an understandable effect but one i find boring because there’s nothing for me to do. i’m just sitting on my ass with nothing to do

trevor’s whips don’t disappear. they’re fast, but you can always see them. and they have weight! you can see them slow down and gain speed. i don’t need physics to be real; i want movement to be pleasing, and that’s exactly what i get with the whips

don’t like:

fridging lisa

she could have been kidnapped (possibly make dracula think she was dead bc people want to lure out her scary demon husband, idk), then s2 could have ended with her and dracula reuniting as he died. she and alucard go on a trip together to attempt to make amends for the pain dracula wrought in lisa’s name. orrrr she dies a tragic death with him and we’re left to hope that they find each other in the afterlife. do vampires get to go to the afterlife? can alucard reintegrate? can he be happy with his new friends? or will he go back to his crypt and sleep again? will he ever be rediscovered? if so, what will he do? deep questions. i would prefer to cogitate on these instead of experiencing the shitshow that is s3

season 3

they should have ended it with dracula’s death. the quality of storytelling goes down immediately. just plummets. i’m sure there were problems in the first two seasons, but this one is so bad, i genuinely can’t remember

trevor and sypha leave their friend alone in his childhood home where he just killed his father. where they helped him kill his father who, as i’ve said too many times, raised literal hell to get revenge for people burning alucard’s mother to death

yt they don’t talk about alucard. they don’t make any plans to touch base ever again. trevor’s entire family got killed. sypha’s culture, from which she’s now estranged, is family-centric. if ever two people should give a shit about alucard and know why alucard shouldn’t be left on his own, it's them

the imagery at the end of s3 when it’s revealed that the judge has been killing people he’s decided are undeserving to live and collecting their shoes in that barn was chillingly close to images of shoes taken from victims of the holocaust. there's no reason to invoke the holocaust here. it’s unnecessary and in bad taste
