Han/Leia Appreciation Week 2023
Han/Leia Appreciation Week is an event originally hosted at @han-leia-solo between 2016-2019. Last year, and with their permission, we decided to host it at @hanleiacelebration!
Since Beth Revis' "The Princess and the Scoundrel" was released on August 16th, 2022, we thought it'd be fun to mark the date as the anniversary of Han and Leia's wedding 🥰 And since this year is also the 40th anniversary of "Return of the Jedi", you'll see prompts related to both of those things!
💗 How does the Han/Leia Appreciation Week work?
The event will run from August 13th to August 19th, and there will be two different prompts each day that creators can fulfill with: fanfic, fanart, gifsets, graphics, fanvids, headcanons, crafts, playlists, rec lists. You’re encouraged to tag your posts with #hanleiaweek2023 so we can reblog them! After the week is over, we'll also share a masterlist with links to the works.
You can show your appreciation in many ways; however, please keep in mind that it has to be a creation of yours of some sort, e.g. don’t repost other people’s fanart, gifs, or unedited pictures. Rec lists should include a link to the original source both for fanfic and fanart (more on this after the cut).
💫 The prompts
Sunday 8/13: Anniversary / Memory
Monday 8/14: Endor / Reunion
Tuesday 8/15: Rescue / Vision
Wednesday 8/16: Favourite scene / Quote
Thursday 8/17: Battle couple / Millennium Falcon
Friday 8/18: AU / Canon divergence
Saturday 8/19: Free day!
You can use only one of the daily prompts, combine both, reinterpret them, or skip the day if you can’t think of anything. If you’re not able to post on the same day for a prompt, you’re still encouraged to share it through the week—just don’t post works for a certain prompt before the day corresponding to that prompt.
💠 💠 💠
FAQs and Rules under the cut - please read!
💗 Can I post my work to another site and share the link on Tumblr?
Yes! This is a good option for people who might want to create explicit art that could be taken down on Tumblr, write a long fic or multichapter, or make videos or playlists.
💗 Does it have to be a new creation? Can I finish and post a WIP?
It has to be something that has never been posted anywhere else before, so finishing and sharing a WIP is okay! If it doesn’t fit any of the prompts, you can share it on Free Day.
💗 Is this event open to all ratings?
Yes! Just remember to use a “Read more” cut if you’re posting the whole work on Tumblr, and to add a note at the top if your work is rated Mature or Explicit, as well as if it has any major trigger warnings, so all folks can safely browse through the entries.
💗 Are there any length or quality requirements?
There’s no min. or max. length for fanfic or quality level for art, but please note that AI-generated works won't be accepted. For gifsets, there’s a minimum of two gifs (that must be made by you!). For playlists, there’s a minimum of five songs. For rec lists of fic or fanart, there’s also a minimum of five recs. Some more questions you might have about rec lists:
- How do I share someone else's art without posting a picture? You might post a thumbnail that crops a preview of the piece; if the piece has a title, you might use that; you might describe it; or you might say something like “this piece by [artist]”, and link to the source.
- What if I found a fanart on Google? Try to find the original source using reverse search image.
- What if I can’t still find it, can I just say “credit to the artist”? In that case, please just don’t share the piece.
- What if I know the artist but don’t have a link to the original source? Naming the artist and linking back to where you found it is okay, in that case.
💗 Is the event based on "The Princess and the Scoundrel"?
Not really! That's just an excuse to celebrate Han/Leia 😊 You don’t need to include or acknowledge it in any way in your creations, although you’re welcome to.
💗 Can I write for canon/Legends and include other pairings?
All canons, time periods, headcanons and AUs are welcome, and you're allowed to include side pairings, except for R*eylo. However, keep in mind that this is a Han/Leia appreciation week - at the risk of sounding repetitive, works should focus on appreciating Han and Leia's relationship!
💗 What's the time zone for the event?
Please don't worry too much about time zones: when we say "day", we always mean "whenever that day is for you in your part of the world". IE: if it's Monday for you, you can post your work for the Monday prompt.
💠 💠 💠
Do you have any other questions? Don’t hesitate to send us an ask or to message one of the mods: @lajulie24 @hanorganaas and @otterandterrier
We can’t wait to see what you all create!

reminder to please ask artists before you use their art for your graphics ! and credit the artists if they ask for it ! every artist views their art differently and while some may be fine with it others may not want their art being used. it can be very personal and also many artists sell their art, and dont want their stuff used !
#just saw a graphics post for a dragon age thing (not by an rp blog) thay uses art from an artist i know#and it is uncredited ! i know that artist has had many problems with people using their art without their permission#and i know their feelings on it bc art is hard for them. they have a medical disability that impares their ability to draw#but their art is fantastic and they love making it. they have been an artist for yearss#back when i was but a youngling i was looking up to their art#so please ask artists to use their art you never know what it means to them and if they will be upset/hurt !#art is not easy to do it takes time. years of practice for most of us#i was reading a thing about a concept artist that was talking payment and their employer was like ' im paying you this much to make art tha#takes 15 minutes?' and the response was 'you are paying me for the years of experience that made me able to draw this in 15 mins'#anyway. its the same as people using icons that you made or using your theme or any graphics you make#i dont see this as being a major problem in the rp community bc i see most of you credit artists when you use their art#but ! something to consider and be aware of !#like for me: please ask before you use my art because chances are if it isnt of volthen#i drew it as a gift for someone else !#you can also support artists by doing a quick check to see if the original post credited the artist in the tags or the caption#and not reblogging reposts or graphic posts that have used art without the artists permission!#i know its hard but it really does help the artist bc they are posting to share their art#with the hopes that people will like it and interact with them (much like the reason we make rp blogs).

On Plagiarism and Art Theft
We’re just a few hours away from the second monthly DA Polyshipping Day open and we wanted to take a moment to address a serious issue in fandom. To help make sure everyone is comfortable with participating with our event, we have rolled out an official plagiarism and art theft policy. It outlines what we consider plagiarism/art theft and what to do if someone has submitted works to us which you believe violate your intellectual property rights.
We strongly encourage everyone participating to read the information. If you ever need to refer to it again (and we hope you don’t), it can be found in full underneath the read more of this post, as an answer to a question on the FAQ, and as a link on our website here.. We hope everyone has had a great January in the fandom and look forward to seeing what you have ready for February!
Dragon Age Polyshipping Day takes art theft and plagiarism seriously. We do not under any circumstances condone plagiarism or art theft, as we believe wholeheartedly in and support the intellectual property rights of fancreators.
We wanted to take some time to address what constitutes both plagiarism and art theft, and what you can do if you believe someone has tagged or reblogged @dapolyshippingday in an effort to promote a fanwork which has violated your intellectual property rights. To start we’ll define both plagiarism and art theft, and let you know how to proceed in addressing the issue.
Plagiarism
We will use AO3’s guidelines for plagiarism listed below:
Plagiarism is the use of someone else’s words or concepts without properly attributing those words or concepts to their original source. Simply finding and replacing names, substituting synonyms, or rearranging a few words is not enough to make the work original to you. Deliberately writing a work using the same general idea as another work is not plagiarism, but citation is always appreciated.
An expanded definition can be found here.
Art Theft
If plagiarism is highly contested and disputed Art Theft is even more so. We have compiled a list of examples which we consider Art Theft.
Reposting someone else’s art, moodboard, or fanedit. [note: fic/art rec lists should link to these works, not repost them from an account that does not belong to the artist/author.]
Removing someone’s signature, watermark, or identifying symbol through cropping or editing.
Tracing someone’s artwork as a base without permission or attribution (credit) [please note: this includes using something other than free stock photos or paid stock photos for which you haven’t obtained a license.]
Using someone’s artwork in graphic edits (for moodboards, user avatars, emojis, etc) without permissions or attribution (credit).
What To Do
If you become aware someone has tagged @dapolyshippingday in a post with a fanwork which plagiarizes your own or which constitutes art theft, we ask that you do the following:
Attempt contacting the writer or artist directly to talk things out. Please do not attack or harass the other creator. Although it can be frustrating, try to approach the situation calmly, and ask for them to either remove their post or properly credit. We do not support callout posts or public confrontations. If they agree to remove their post, please have them contact us to request that the post be deleted from the blog or the queue. If they are going to repost with proper credit, we are happy to replace their original post in the queue or to include it in the next month’s queue if it has already been posted.
If you find you are blocked or the two of you are unable to come to an agreement, you still have options.
First, check out this post with resources to file DMCA takedowns and/or abuse reports with the site where the work is hosted. Next, please send us the link where you first posted your work, and either a link to the one which you believe violates your intellectual property rights or a screenshot of the post. We will not negotiate on behalf of either fancreator, but if we do agree there has been an abuse of intellectual property rights, we will remove the work which plagiarized or stole art. We will reach out to let the fancreator know why their work was removed.

regarding fanart that's posted without permission, user sailor-moon-rei posts a lot of fanart and several people have contacted some of the artists who replied they were never asked/didn't give permission, plus when sailor-moon-rei was asked about it once they only said they would delete posts if the artist wanted... so obviously it's up to you guys but i'm not sure i'd reblog from them since they don't seem to be up front about it :(
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately, there are some blogs out there that posts other artists’ works without permission and, as I mentioned before, we would like to avoid spreading reposts of art that has been posted without the artists’ consent. I know how struggling it is to be an artist online when people are stealing/copying/tracing/reposting artworks in one way or another.
So, just to be on the safe side since it’s impossible to know which reposts that are posted with/without permission, unless there’s PUBLIC PROOF somewhere on the post itself that the art is published with the artist’s written permission WE ARE NOW ONLY going to be reblogging art from the source itself. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you all support your fellow local artists with the praise and love they deserve. Sometimes, just linking back to the source on a repost isn’t enough — remember that somebody actually sat down and worked REALLY HARD on their artpiece, and to see it floating around when nobody asked if they could use your work is VERY disrespectful. Honestly, ALL you need to do is just ask them. The worst that could happen is that you get a no, but in my experience? Most artists DO actually agree to sharing their art with others because it gives them the validation and praise they deserve. Not everyone, but most.
This is not a direct message to the blog mentioned from by anon, but if you ARE an art blog of any kind that reposts other’s works without direct permission, perhaps you should take a moment and think how YOU would feel if someone stole your favorite possession or something you made that you’re proud of and then held it up like a trophy. It doesn’t matter if you include a direct link back to the original source; if you didn’t ask the artist to use their art, that link is NOT your scapegoat. Like I said, all you need to do is ASK the artist. It’s not the end of the world if they say no. And if they are inactive online and it’s difficult to contact them, leave their art be. If they are not around to defend themselves or have a say in the matter, it’s even WORSE if you use their art without permission. Don’t think you can use someone’s art just because you weren’t able to contact them.
I’m really sorry if this sounds harsh in any way, but it’s something I personally relate to a lot and I would just simply HATE to see INCREDIBLY talented artists stop producing art just because people come around to steal their work.
I will now take it upon myself to delete any reposts I can find on dailysailormoon — it might take a while since I don’t know exactly HOW many posts there are. Also, please, please, PLEASE let us know again if you ever spot any reposts of any kind on our blog.
EDIT: This ALSO, of course, applies to any graphics and gifs that has been reposted. Don’t steal others’ work!

Okay, so I'm really dumb but when people say not to repost art, that means we can reblog but within Tumblr, right?? Hope you're having a wonderful day💕💕💕
hiii! don’t call yourself dumb lovely, it’s a legitimate question ♡
reblogging is just you sharing the original post so that’s totally fine!! you’re not creating your own post, you’re simply sharing mine and that’s actually the best way to show your appreciation and support any artists out there — so thank you!!
now, i’d like to add a few things:+ if you want to share an artwork on tumblr from an artist who doesn’t have a blog — always ask them for permission first!! if they do say yes, follow their guidelines and always link the source of their original art giving them proper credit. (if they say no, simply do not post their art and respect their decision ♡)+ contrary to popular beliefs, reposting artworks do not give artists any exposure — more often than not, it makes our work looks illegitimate because it gets harder and harder to track back the original source if our work has been on multiple sites. those reposts are also often shared without credit, a cropped out signature, or an even worst resolution… how to prove the work is ours when there are hundreds of versions of it online?
+ no matter what people may say about ‘if it’s online you expose yourself to those things’ — i always think people should be nice and respectful towards each other and it starts by respecting people’s own creations!! i can’t speak for other countries, but here in france, each artwork is protected by law.
copyright protects literary works, musical, graphic and plastic creations, but also software or fashion creations.
copyright is acquired without formalities, by the very fact of the creation of the work. creations are therefore protected from the day they are made. it allows the artist to prohibit or authorize the use of their work and to receive, in this case, compensation in return. this right lasts up to 70 years after the death of the author.
now, if you do want to support one of my artworks online, i’m also posting them on twitter and instagram for that very reason! that way, people can easily share/like or retweet them ♡
#this got way too long as usual....#i could talk about this for days!!#i hope you're having a great day as well ♡#jess répond

FAQ
I’ve been putting this off but it’s important so here it goes;
Who are you?
I’m Monty, I’m a writer, artist and graphic designer. I do this as a hobby and it’s not my job. I just love this movie a lot and I am so happy to share it with others! If you want to know more of me, just ask!
What programmes do you use?
Used to use Procreate, which I still use for cleaning up sometimes. I mostly use Clip Studio EX with various brushes and for GIFS I use Photoshop 2020. I use an Apple Pencil and an iPad.
Can I request stuff?
Oh god, please do. Requests keep me going and motivated!
Is there something you won’t do?
Not really, you are always free to request stuff and I will either do it, or don’t. If I don’t reject your request in the first 24 hours of you requesting it then congratulations! That means I’ve accepted it. It just takes some time. Some requests just prompt me to do a comic or make whole show out of it, others are smaller. That being said, all requests are equal.
N S F W images will be cropped and hosted on imgurl due to Tumblr’s ban.
How to support you?
Request stuff [Seriously send me all the things!]
Like / Reblog my stuff.
Leave comments! Either as a real comment or in the tags, these things are life giving!
I have Ko-Fi, RedBubble and a Gumroad if you want to support me with some money. This is 100% optional but appreciated. What are the terms of use?
You are always allowed to:
Reblog and / or like my posts.
Use my artwork for personal use with permission. If you want to use it for like your icon on discord or a phone background or whatever, sure go ahead you don’t need to ask me. If you want to use it online somewhere, please ask me. I won’t say no anyway, I just like to know.
You are free to use my GIFs as you see fit, just credit me.
Please, if possible do not:
Edit, trace or otherwise copy my art. Using it as a reference is fine.
Repost without permission.
Delete my captions.

K Project Rarepair Week 2017: Guidelines, and what is and isn’t considered a rarepair for the purposes of this event.
Rules
Tag any submissions #krarepairweek2018. Make sure this is in the first 5 tags, otherwise your submission may not show up in the tag. Feel free to also @ tag this blog.
Please specify in your post (either in the post itself or in the tags) which day and prompt you’re submitting for!
Any late submissions are fine- real life happens sometimes! Don’t stress yourself out to get things finished on time; we’ll still check the tags after the week has finished, and we’ll still reblog your post if you missed the prompt, or even the week as a whole.
Submissions must be new work- please do not repost pre-existing content. Rarepairs often have very little in the way of content, so weeks like this should serve as an excuse to create more!
Submissions must be your own work- this can include fanart, edits, gifs, fanfiction, AMVs, headcanons, cosplay etc. (The only exceptions to this rule are doujin scans/translations. As long as the original artist is okay with their work being reuploaded, scans or translations of existing doujins/comics etc. are fine!)
If you use another’s work in your own submission (i.e. using art to create an edit) you must have permission from the creator, and you must give credit in the post.
Collaborations are welcome, but make sure all creators have been properly credited.
Make sure to properly tag your work- i.e. common triggers (i.e. graphic depictions of violence, death, dubcon/noncon, self-harm etc) and NSFW should be flagged up appropriately.
The only ships we won’t be accepting are those involving a child and an adult. Content including younger characters (i.e. SukuAnna) with characters of a similar age are fine, but please, nothing along the lines of Miko/Anna unless the content is set in an alternate universe in which the characters are of a similar age.
This goes without saying, but be respectful and supportive of others and their work.
This week isn’t an excuse to shit on the popular pairings. Everyone has their preferences, and that’s great! But ship hate- towards any pairing, rare or not, won’t be tolerated.
Most importantly- have fun!
What’s considered a rarepair for the purposes of this event:
With the changing dynamic of the fandom, this year we’re changing what we’re considering rarepairs for the purposes of this event. The only ships we will not be accepting are:
Saru/Mi
Miko/Rei
Miko/Totsu
Rei/Saru
as these ships already have their own events. However, content in which a popular pairing exists as a side pairing but isn’t the main focus of the content is fine, as are polyamorous ships that contain one or more of these pairings (for instance mikoreisarumi as an ot4 is fine, even though it contains 3 of the more popular ships).
All other ships are welcome. This includes IzuSeri and KuroShiro. If your ship isn’t one of the four listed above, you can create content for it for rarepair week. Whilst these ships are arguably quite popular in the fandom, they don’t have many active, content-creating shippers, and don’t have their own dedicated ship week, so there is still comparatively little content being made for them. This week is about encouraging people to create content for ships which don’t have that much, so for the purposes of this event, this year, we’ve decided to accept those pairings as well.
As always, OT3s and polyamorous ships are always welcome, as are crossovers between fandoms.
If you have any questions, feel free to send us an ask!

Alrighty, so if you haven’t heard from July 2nd until July 15th, people from the fandom will be participating in Miraculous Content Creator Blackout ( @miraculousblackout ) in order to protest the rampant art theft that has been affecting many creators in the fandom. In essence, people are committing to pausing content creation, freezing any ML related blogging, and spreading information about art theft.
Now, for the sake of transparency, I will say that I am personally choosing not to halt my blog and will continue to post my writing. This is a personal decision and is in no way meant to delegitimize the protest. Many of you follow me for my writing, and I do not wish to deprive you all of that. I also want to continue to support ML artists and writers by continuing to reblog their work.
However!! I do want to say something about content theft and what can be done to prevent it.
Etiquette
There’s really murky legalities around fanart/derivative works and copyright claims over the owners of the characters depicted. To save the legal jargon, I feel like this boils down very easily to a certain standard of respect and etiquette for people who put labor into creating any form of content.
You do not have any right to decide how art/writing is used if you do not own it/did not create it. Very simple. Not yours? You don’t have a right to decide how it’s used. That right belongs entirely to an artist. This means that an artist can decide how they wish for you to interact with their creations, and it is basic etiquette and decency to respect those wishes.
Acceptable forms of interaction usually involve interacting with the original post. So liking/reblogging/retweeting/etc. the original post, leaving comments, sending the artist messages about the post, etc. are great ways of appreciating art. It gets the artists hits and notes and it’s a great way to ensure they’re getting credit for their work.
Now if you want to post art somewhere else, put it in a video, translate a fic you found, etc., always ask the artist for permission first just to be safe. It’s best to ask and get permission rather than assume it’s okay and upset an artist. Now if an artist says no, your job is to respect that decision and interact with their art in the way they’re comfortable with. If you’re thinking of interacting with an artist’s work in a way that they have not explicitly approved of, always always always ask to be sure.
This also goes for tracing, taking another person’s art and putting it into your own creation, slapping art on merchandise without the artist’s permission, etc. Don’t do it without express permission.
If ever you find yourself asking, “but I said it’s not mine!,” “I’m giving publicity to the artist,” “it’s art on the Internet I can do what I want,” refer to the bolded text: you do not have any right to decide how art/writing is used if you do not own it/did not create it.
What do I do if I’ve found stolen/reposted art?
First, make sure that it is indeed stolen/reposted. Good way to tell is to check watermarks, check posts, and check tags. A very quick and easy way to make sure the poster of the art is actually the artist is to check the art for watermarks and see if it matches the username of the poster. Now this often isn’t ironclad, so another good way to check is to read the posts of the original work. If you see someone saying “credits to the artist,” “look at this pretty art I found,” etc. you can be sure it’s a reposting. Checking the tags is another good method that I’ve used. A lot of artists tend to tag their art with things like #mine, #myart, etc. and that’s a good way to tell if the post is original.
Now, if you can’t figure out who the artist is or you’re not sure if this is stolen/reposted, another good method is doing a reverse image search on Google. Google allows you to search by image rather than keywords and will show you every website in which the image appears. This is usually a very good way to try and see not only where else this image appears, but where it originated from. This is also good for people who find art randomly on Google and want to find the original artist to ask them permission to use their art.
If you think art you’ve seen is stolen/reposted, it’s best to notify the artist right away before taking any action on their behalf. Simply sending them a link to what you think may be reposted art is often the best thing to do so that they’re aware and they can proceed from there. Be very careful about sending reports on behalf of others until you’re positive that is the method they wish to proceed with. If you know for sure that the artist does not condone reposting, you could report art “on the behalf of the artist.”
Now, not only is it very possible that a thief/reposter will refuse to take down the stolen art, but it also happens quite often if the constant art theft posts made by fandom artists wasn’t enough of a hint. If talking to the thief/reposter first doesn’t work, that’s where you report the post/user.
So how do I report stolen/reposted art?
@wintermoth has this really amazing comprehensive guide for artists that want to report their stolen/reposted art that you can find right here. As mentioned before, if you are not the artist of the stolen art, it’s usually best to notify the artist first and make sure to submit reports “on the behalf of the artist” if you’re 100% sure they do not condone that method of theft/reposting and are fine with fans reporting on their behalf.
What about fics?
Same policies apply. If you want to translate a fic or throw it up on another website (such as Wattpad) that is something you need to ask the writer first and give them the proper credits. When it comes to fanfiction, the best thing you can do for a writer is reblog, like, comment, bookmark, gives kudos, and circulate links to the original piece. Anything past that needs the express permission of the writer. I don’t think I need to say that outright plagiarism of fics is nothing short of theft.
This also goes for fandubs, using fics in comics, etc. Ask the writer! Sometimes we’re happy to let you dub over our work, translate it, and put our fics in comics so long as you let us know, credit us, and link back to our original writing. If a writer happens to not be okay with that under any circumstances, that is something that you need to respect. Once more: you do not have any right to decide how art/writing is used if you do not own it/did not create it.
When it comes to reporting fics, you’re likely going to be doing that either on AO3, Fanfiction.net, Tumblr, or Wattpad.
AO3: you can use this Report Abuse Form to file a complaint if you think that your writing has been plagiarized. This usually works for unauthorized posting of your fics and outright stealing your fics. Have links available and be as specific as you can in explaining what sort of offense was committed.
Fanfiction.net: you can visit their Support page and email their support team with a complaint about abuse by putting the word “abuse” somewhere in the subject of the email. Again, provide as many links as you can and be thorough in your explanation (typically it suffices to say that you believe your story has been plagiarized or resposted without your permission)
Wattpad: you can visit their page on How to Report a Story. Essentially what you’ll want to do is go to the description of the story that you’re reporting and find the “Report this Story” link on the sidebar on your right hand side. When you reach the portion where it asks you to choose the issue you’re having, you’ll select “I have a Copyright violation” and follow the instructions that follow.
Keep in mind that with Wattpad, you have to have an account to see the stories on Wattpad and only the original author can submit a report. So make sure that you notify the original author of the fic if you happen to see their stolen fics on Wattpad.
Tumblr: similar to stolen/reposted art, you can file a Misattribution/Non-Attribution Abuse Report through Tumblr’s Abuse Page. They make it very easy and simply ask you to provide the link to the stolen fic and the original fic in order to submit the abuse report.
Again, please visit @miraculousblackout for more information about the blackout. Click these links if you need more Info or want to make a post and need to use Graphics (shoutout to @squirrellygirlart for the one I used above). If you’re an Artist or a Writer and you want to get involved, also check out those links.

Hello! I am newbie at tumblr and read at your page that reblogging artists' work is a bad thing. Why? I thought it is good and help to get them up on the front page :) Thank you for answer!
Hello, hello! I’m glad you asked and I have no issue explaining :) Reblogging an artist work is a good thing. However, reposting it is not. There is a MASSIVE difference between reblogging and reposting, and there are different types of reposts.
Reblogging art from an artist is a great thing because it grants attention to their work in a manor the artist deemed acceptable. The artist themselves posted the work to their own blog as an original post, and when you reblog that post, it links back immediately to the artists blog and gives them the proper notes and credit they deserve for creating such amazing work. It also shares the work in a controlled manner for the artist to keep track of.
Reposting is another matter entirely. Reposting is where you see art you really like, save the image or work onto your device, and repost it as an original post on your own blog even though you didn’t create the work or ask permission to share it. In doing this, you’re not only stripping the credit from the artist who created the work regardless of what type of work it is (illustrations, graphics, writing, etc.), you are essentially stealing and hurting the artist by doing this. Reposting any works that you did not create yourself without express consent from the creator is a very bad thing and it makes a lot of amazing artists leave fandom entirely. The ONLY time reposting is acceptable is if it is an authorized reprint.
Sourced Reposting is where you see art you really like, save it to your device, and repost it as an original post without permission, but still source back to the original artist. THIS IS STILL BAD. You should always ask an artist for permission before sharing their works, not just out of respect, but because some artists could get into a lot of trouble thanks to reposts, and can also lose work thanks to reposts if they’re in the creative work field. You may think you are helping an artists by sharing their work in this way, but in reality; you could be severely harming them and their careers.
Authorized Reposting is when you see art you really like, and then ASK THE CREATOR if you can share their work on another website or use it for another purpose from what the artist originally intended (sharing on tumblr, using for icon, etc.). If the creator approves and you properly credit and link them for the work you are sharing; that type of reposting is fine. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME REPOSTING IS OKAY!!
Regardless of this though, if the artist posts on tumblr, you should ALWAYS reblog from them and give them proper credit. Maybe even leave nice messages for them in your tags or directly on your relog. If they post outside of tumblr, but you want to share their work; ask permission. If they refuse, respect that. If they grant permission, source and credit them properly, etc.

Swapfell Dawn is my AU and my take on on the term “Swapfell” and has nothing to do with it’s original creator Kkhopangg(KH) or Fellswap.
The comics I’m doing use the base of my AU. They are different to the popular versions and their story and personality belong to me. I was inspired by other artists on their design, but I developed them all alone.
Do you have a masterlist for Swapfell Dawn/Sympathy? Yes, but it’s only available for PC users… I am too lazy to make an extra post that I have to update too… sorry.
My Swapfells are inspired by yours! Credit always the person with the original idea. I also stated that KH had the original idea. But I didn’t know them back then and just started a story with the term “Swapfell = A Swap that fell”
I love the swapfells because of you! You are the Creator of Swapfell for me! I feel very, very honored about this statement, but it’s wrong in some way. The first idea was given by KH and I don’t want to take their title. And I don’t want people to force to take it. But I am very happy that I could make this AU interesting for you. Since that Swapfell/Fellswap debate I am even more determined to call my Swapfells “Sfd!sans aka. Black” and “sfd!papyrus aka Pup”. They belong to the Swapfell Dawn universe that splits from the mainstream line, so I won’t disturb the peace there. Of couse you can see it as your headcanon for Swapfell, I will feel more than honored. After all there was no real plot for them so far and this is just my take on…. Mweh
I want to hug your sfbros! This is a hugfree zone. Please stop sending me asks about that.
I want to hug you! I’m spiky, get the fck away from me. I am picky about hugs D:
Hugs? Never.
I want to hug you/Black/Pup! These asks will be ignored. You can go and hug stripper Jerry.
Can I create my own stories with your Swapfell Dawn boys?
No. Because I am still working on Dawn and I don’t want others to use my idea for them in their stories. If it’s about fanart/fanfictions for my story then it’s okay. But don’t make your own thing with them.
My Swapfell Dawn bois are known as “Black” and “Pup”. Pup calls his Sans “M'lord, sire, lord or Sans”… Black calls him “Mutt, Pap, Papy (special cases), Papyrus or other creative names to degrade him”
Suggestions and HCs for the SFD bois? You can write me about them, but don’t expect me to adapt them :)
You didn’t answer my ask Sorry… sometimes I delay answering stuff and I get honestly a ton more asks than I would’ve dared to imagine…. I love you all but shit… please don’t be mad if I take my time or don’t answer at all…. x.x
That music fits your Sfd!Bois! Feel free to send me stuff! I always listen to it, but I didn’t come to answer the previous suggestions… ahh.. so lazy me…
Is Sympathy on hold? Yes and no…. I will draw it when I feel like it.
Will Sympathy be continued at all? At some later point yes. I won’t stop that project.
When do you update your comics? That depends on my free time and mood. It’s always different. Sometimes I just need breaks….
There are different designs for your SFD!Bois… I change them from time to time. Sometimes depending on what I display and if it happened before or after Sympathy. Sympathy influences the final design of the Swapfell Dawn bois.
Can I call your AU still Swapfell? Yes, but since it’s my Au with MY story, MY design and MY interpretation, I’ve decided to give it an extra name so people won’t get confused about it anymore. I’m not using the design of others anymore.
—
Do not repost my art/comics without my permission. Do not sell/edit/whatever my art. If you want to have prints, then you can purchase the art and I’ll send you a higher resolution.
Can I use your art as icon? As BG on my Phone/PC…. Yes, but please to credit me. And I don’t mind if you use my stuff as background for your devices! What an honor!
I want to translate your comics…. First write me and get permission. I will talk about this with you.
My art/idea was inspired by yours… Credit me then. Because it’s rude and unfair to state it was your idea all alone. This involves character design, such as using my Swapfell bois as reference.
Can I draw SFD!Sans/SFD!Papyrus/SFD!Muffet/SFD!….? Can I write a fanfiction about them? Yes, sure! I don’t know why you want to do fanart for me, but jfc just do it! I am always happy to see my bois/my AU figures drawn in your style! Why would I not allow it? I love them and if you love them too, then it’s even better! And yes, you can also write fanfictions about my story, my pictures or whatever! Many talented writers already gifted me fantastic short fanfictions! I’ll be more than eager to read them! But sometimes I don’t have that much time, so please don’t be disappointed D:
Just please credit that you used my design/my AU there :D Less confusion for others and respect for me. Please don’t pretend it’s your design/idea, that’s what I wouldn’t like to see. And please don’t forget it’s your creation, so it’s not part of my AU unless I state that it’s an addition for it.
I drew fanart for you! I wrote a fanfiction for you! Just pm me, tag me or whatever, so I can see it. I usually always review stuff I get and comment on it. But don’t expect me to reblog it. It’s my decision after all. And please make sure that people don’t think that your fanfiction or art is part of the actual story, if you do art of it more often :) I tag stuff that belongs to the AUs I am working on.
Can I cosplay your Swapfells? YES!? Just credit my stuff and SHOW ME JFC
Requests? No.
I want a commission! Take a look at my commission page!
I want to support you! Comments, Reblogs, Pms…. I take it all.
I am also a huge fan of reading tags. They are sooooo cool at times.
You can also support me with Hot Chocolate <3</p>

Translation List:
French Translation by @yskmoscanyaoifr
Russian Translator by forgot their tumblr.. fck xD PM ME Who else did I forget?
How to react if you see my stuff stolen/reuploaded/sold…. First off: Just pm and link me. I will check if I know that guy, talk to them…and if they ignore me then I’ll try to report them or something. I guess I have to learn to deal with this too. It’s just sad to see how they don’t respect work of others. I mean this happens to every artists. Don’t panic… i I just want people to be honest and some are not…

Hello! I've only just found this blog and as a fan artist myself I just wanted to say thank you for showing your support towards artists by only reblogging op art
Hi there! Welcome to fyaokaga~! I’m friends with a lot of artists here on tumblr and I see them go through so much when someone reposts/claims as their own/makes graphics/edits/video’s of their work etc. and most of the time these people don’t even ask for permission first or are very rude if the artist asks them to take something down that does not belong to them in the first place! I also apply to reblogging op art or permission to reprint arts on my own personal blog (@anjizu) and so ofc I would implement the same for any of my secondary blogs. I no longer reblog fanart that may have been sourced but without permission from the artist and I think this example needs to go out to the fandom who still think it is acceptable to post someone elses hard work without asking first even if they source the art before posting on their own blog! Sorry for the lengthy reply, but I do feel strongly about stealing/vandalizing arts and reposting in general! Thank you for taking the time to let us know!

The Problems with Reposting
Recently someone reposted my work -- as in, downloaded it and then posted it from their computer -- on their Insta and their Twitter. I politely but firmly pointed out that they did not have my permission, that they really should reblog / retweet an artist’s work rather than repost, and asked them to take it down. They BLOCKED me without responding on Twitter. I THINK they took it down from Insta, but I'm not 100% sure it’s *their* gallery that I'm seeing (which would mean they didn’t block me there), or one with a similar name and theme, because the one I saw before had less images. Anyway, I'm betting they did indeed remove it.
To their credit, they DID @ me on both posts, which I do appreciate. I know what some of you are thinking: Wolfie, that’s like a link, and you’re getting exposure -- why are you still upset? Except it’s really not.
Keep in mind that I am not some mega-corporation -- I don't have a huge following, I don't make tons of money (practically none, really -- I do it mostly for the joy), and my work is not instantly recognisable (although, really, if a famous artist posts their work, you should hit that reblog / retweet / share button in those cases, too). And for those who are thinking, “well, posting on the internet means you give up your rights” -- NO. That is 100% false. Read these:
https://sarafhawkins.com/copyright-online-photo-etiquette/
https://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/faqs/copyright-protection/
https://about.deviantart.com/policy/copyright/
Here are some of the problems with reposting instead of reblogging/etc.
1) With it reposted in someone else’s space, if I want or need to change or even take the work down ... I can’t, because I don't have access to their account.
2) It adds a level of distance between the artists and the work, with dangerous potential for further separation. Even if the one who reposted gives the link to the artists’ site, that doesn’t guarantee that someone who then takes it from THEM will share that credit.
Once, someone took an image of my Grootmas tree, stripped my credit from the photo, and posted it on their page, saying nothing about who it was by, so as far as anyone knew, they had made it. It was shared by over a thousand people before I learned about it. I contacted the poster, and he laughed and said “You didn't make it -- it’s not yours.”) So I showed him the original, with my credit still on it (meaning it had the part of the photo that his version was missing, not just the credit) -- and he insisted that proved nothing. So I took a pic of myself with Grootmas, with a sign saying who I was. *Finally*, he conceded and took the post down, but those people who reposted it would never know who really made it.
3) Too many people only link to the parent page of the artist, not the display page of the image. For artists like myself who post on DeviantArt, if a person does actually follow the link (many do not!), they then have to hunt for the image in the gallery -- if they don't find it, we don't get the pageviews. That makes it a lot harder to judge the success of a work, because we're not aware that people are even seeing it in those cases.
4) Not everyone who sees a repost speaks the same language as the reposter. This means they may not get that the reposter isn’t the originator, and is crediting someone else in the description, rather than just tagging a friend they want to show the work to, or a client who paid for a commission, etc -- context is lost.
5) Sometimes those credits get lost by the way the social media site displays on certain devices -- people may not see the actual credit at all, as it gets hidden behind a “see more” link.
6) It’s basically stealing “likes”. I mean, if someone reblogs my work, MY numbers go up, and helps my work to be seen more. It’s pretty much the same at Twitter. But if someone ELSE posts it directly to their social media, as a separate post not connected to me, it’s only THEIR numbers that go up, THEIR exposure that increases, not mine.
Putting a lot of work into something, only to see someone else get more recognition for it than myself, doesn't exactly encourage me to make more art, ya know? If you like an indie artist’s work, SUPPORT THEM, in the best way possible: share THEIR posts. Don't take control of their work out of their hands. If you want to use it for something outside of just a simple post, GET PERMISSION.
Once, some fanzine informed me, *after* the fact, that they had used art of mine in a post of theirs, but added that they would take it down if I wanted them to. Let me say right now that, even if I had been okay with the post it was included in, I still would have been hella annoyed that it they hadn't asked permission FIRST. As it was, I was even more upset when I discovered HOW it was used: it was art of Harry and Petunia that I had done for a fanfic of mine, and they were using it as a header for a ficrec of someone ELSE’S fanfic. (Seriously?? They used my work for my story to celebrate someone *else’s* story?? HOW could that be anything but rude??) At any rate, I saw on their site that you have to fill out a form to opt *out* of your stuff being used!! Outraged, I pointed out that inclusion in their zine should be opt-IN, not opt-OUT ... and they replied that it would take too long then for them to gather content, so they wouldn't be able to share artists’ works with the world, framing it like they were doing people a favour and we should be grateful, even if we never asked them to do it.
Don't be like that, please. You aren't loving the artists when you act like this; you’re acting entitled and using them for your own benefit.
I know, I know, “Wolfie, you hypocrite, you do fanworks! You aren't getting permission from the original artists!” Putting aside that I tend to gravitate more towards creators who welcome and encourage fanworks than ones who don’t .... you're right, and I entirely understand if you lump me in with the very people I'm complaining about. Any justifications I make are, in the end, me rationalising and excusing, whether I’m right or not.
So what are my justifications? I'm remixing hella well-known works, often owned by corporations (ones that I likely have given more than a little money to). I'm taking something that has become part of the fabric of our society, a touchstone, and participating in the conversations about it. I’m sharing my own thoughts about the stories by framing those thoughts in the form of new stories -- save for occasional quotes, I'm not sharing the actual original text. I give credit to the originators. When I do portraits, I typically use promo art, and often compile multiple images and otherwise put my own spin in things. My brain forms the words that my versions of the characters speak, and the actions they do, and my hands lay down the lines. (And I don't sell the fanworks, but that’s a whole other discussion.)
I don't make gifs, but yes, I do share them -- these soundless, quick scenes that are used on the internet as a form of conversation, as well as a means to study, re-experience, and share favourite moments of a show. They’re no substitution for the real thing, In fact, I have started watching shows BECAUSE of gifsets! (And showrunners aren’t, unlike me, ever going to need or want to take down old versions -- presumably they have put forward the best version they ever expect to do. Once a work is distributed en masse, that ship has sailed.)
There is no risk whatsoever of anyone mistaking me as the creator of the franchises I make fanworks for. Everyone knows where to find the source material. Everyone SHOULD be smart enough to understand that the originators are not actually participants in fanworks; if the reader / viewer doesn't like something, they should know not to hold the originators responsible for what a fan does with their characters (and if they aren’t smart enough, gods help us; we’re doomed).
(Also, if I know that a creator has forbidden fanfic, I *respect that and don’t do it*. And as I said, some of the fandoms I indulge in have even actively welcomed fanworks, rather than simply turning a blind eye. Like, Sony sent me a bunch of stuff for being “Fanartist of the Month" for October of 2004 on their Spider-Man website, and my Iron Man / Tony Stark painting ranked #1 for a while on the movie site for the first film, and James Gunn shared my Grootmas -- yes, he reposted, but I let the content-originators slide on that point. Hell, Warner Bros actually had a fanfic thread on their Harry Potter website years ago, Rowling having given her blessing, and had files for fans to use to make fansite graphics ....)
