i hate the song something to believe in dearly and truly. it’s the one part of newsies i cannot reconcile because it’s just so bad
please fix it. or do something with it
it’s just not a banger i agree. alright.
send me issues from the Plot or Script of this darn show. and i’ll fix them onstage
so my rules for this is that i cannot cut the song. i cannot invent a scene bc i did that already & that’s cheating.
i do think tho that the key to being… fine with something to believe in is the scene right before. i think that scene MUST be fucking stellar in order for the song to be passable. and the scene before…augh. it could also be written better. the positionally of it and the context and the stakes are more interesting than what they say to each other. except. for.
“don’t say it like it happens every day. i’m not an idiot- i know girls like you don’t wind up with guys like me. i don’t want you promising nothing you’re just gonna have to take back later. but standing here tonight, looking at you… i’m afraid tomorrow’s gonna come and change everything.” EATS.
what’s rly important abt jatherine to me is that jack like. literally does not express his fears to anyone else except her. he talks about regret and anger with davey in wwh(r), i’m not counting that as fear. kath is the only person in the show he shares this with. and what he’s afraid of is being alone.
tomorrow coming means he did vote for the disbanding of the union, it means all the kids he loves are angry and done with him, tomorrow means everyone is gone from his life. (in his pov).
so katherine has a job with this song. she has to refute those fears, finally admit that she’s fallen for him, which means he won’t be alone, even if he leaves. he’ll be in her heart, he’ll have a home there, even if he were to get on a train the next day. she initially comes into this scene demanding something of him, but when she learns his actions were done out of this loyalty and his fear for others & himself… wow. “you snuck up on me, jack kelly. i didn’t even see it coming.” YOU KNOW?? going from “cocky little sonofa” to “of course there’s something” is wild for her
she needs to see him FULLY and completely by this point. idt she does until now, it has to be here for this scene & song to mean anything. this is her almost like. protecting his scared little heart. she says she’s in love (he doesn’t), she assures him it’s okay that it might be for a short time, that it’s random, that things like this CAN be something that happens any day. she offers terms that are accessible to jack, that can let him love her. belief conquers fear, undermines it, and if there’s something reporters are good at it’s getting to the root of something. she just has to take an angle that she didn’t expect from herself.
i think honestly the only line that genuinely bugs me abt this song is jack calling her “an angel come to save him”…. especially cause that boy ain’t white anymore we’ve grown passed that as a community so now it’s like. eugh like SURE, sure, but jack u did lead the strike. with ur boys. and ur leadership skills. and ur love for them. so i think this can be said as a knowing tease and she can wave it off and blush and whatever. u can make it cute i promise.
smth abt uksies that was stellar (wow what a shocker rizz is praising uk newsies…) was how emotive and present bronté’s kath was thru this song, she reacted to every word jack said to her. as long as she’s present i think this scene and consequentially the song can work. u just cannot forget abt katherine’s stakes and her journey of learning abt who jack kelly really is. it’s not a bad song bc it’s a love song it’s bad bc it’s not…. actually about how THEY fell in love. the courage and fear line from seize the day should’ve had a reprise moment here bc that’s what their relationship is based on.
if newsies rly was a love story i think that would be the proper theme through their whole arc together. jatherine is about fear and courage. and so is the show. tbh. just saying

tbh i have to use a Lot of my director brain to explain away like a ton of lines from newsies (because the script is. not great) but for this one i think the question she’s asking, based on everything she’s observed from the newsies (the camaraderie, the friendship, brotherhood, closeness, the strikebreak fight) is more like:
“i don’t understand: if you were willing to go to jail for those boys, they would have been willing to go to jail for you.”
because she was there for that whole conversation in pulitzer’s office, you’re right! she knows her dad is threatening davey and les, but kath KNOWS the jacobs now. she knows they don’t want to back down- that davey was pushing jack to keep going bc she was there for wwh reprise too.
because how can jack cave for anything, really, let alone the money, when all these kids—those he’s just met and those he’s known his whole life—ALL of them have his back?
that’s what katherine’s asking, i think. she doesn’t see a reason for him to cave, because she knows a) her own father and his power’s reaches MORE than jack does, b) she knows davey is gonna fight tooth and nail/doesn’t need jack’s protection, and c) that the newsies will fight for jack & each other. so what other reason than the ticket out west would there really be to cave??? fear???? of what! you know what i mean?
listen i love kath and will defend her until the day i die but… what do you MEAN you need to know that he didn’t cave for the money you were literally THERE
like she HEARD her dad say "mark my words, boy. defy me and i'll have you and every one of your friends locked up in the refuge."
she was THERE when jack was dragged off to be forcibly locked in a cellar overnight
"i dont understand, if you were willing to go to jail for those boys, how could you turn your back on them now?" girl what do you mean you don't understand what is there to understand

Welcome to newsie’s big king rant!! *cracks knuckles* i apologise for spelling mistakes or grammar innacuracies
i’ll start with AKB but i’ll do it in three parts ranging how much knowledge i have on the subject
andrew keenan bolger was born on the 16th may 1985 in detroit. he has 2 older sisters, maggie and celia ( who won a tony award for “to kill a mockingbird”!) he’s married to scott bixby since 2018 and their relationship is so nice and wholesome it’s so cute.
HES 5’4. IM 5’5. it’s so funny to think he’s shorter than me but whatever 😭😭
his first broadway role was in the OBC of seussical as alternate Jojo in 2000-2001 of which he did ONE broadway show then got kicked coz he hit puberty LMFAO poor 15 year old andrew
he then went on to be robertson ay in mary poppins THEN went in a woekshop for newsies and papermill and broadway( fun fact i think he’s the only actor who stayed in the same role for the workshop, papermill then obc of newsies )
during newsies he got a lot of fans which honestly yeah real but in march 2013 he left newsies to begin rehersing for tuck everlasting which didn’t make it until 2016 bc there wasn’t a suitable theatre for a transfer to broadway yet ( another fun fact if it had stayed in the realm of 2013 sadie sink would have played winnie instead of sarah charles lewis )
then in 2017 he was in kris kringle the musical playing kris kringle and in 2021 he was in seven deadly sins the off broadway musical playing phillipe
in september ( not sure if going ahead due to sag aftra ) he’s gonna star in “dracula a comedy of terrors” which seems very fun!! he posted a rlly funny photo of him wearing vampire teeth
ok other things than theatre he’s done i’m so sorry gang
so in 1997 he was chip’s singing voice in that lovely enchanted christmas beauty and the beast spinoff which i watched ALL OF IT just to find he’s in ONE FUCKING SONG and he’s only in the credits ONCE
( however tim curry is in it and he’s a fat smash so 🤷🏻‍♀️ )
he was in this show called looking in 2014 don’t watch it if ur under 18 i’m fucking traumatised from it don’t curse yourself with that PLEASE GOD DONT SEARCH ANDREW KEENAN ON GIFS EITHER
he had like a miniseries called ‘submissions only’ which also performed at 54 below
he has a podcast called ‘that sounds right’ which is SO FUCKING FUNNY PLEASE GO LISTEN TO IT I LOVE IT SO MUCH
OH SHIT YEAH HE WAS ALSO IN ( these are all like regional theatre ?? )
high school musical as ryan
perez hilton saves the universe…😬 as a shit ton of different ppl
LITTLE SHOP AS SEYMOUR!!!!!
a really funny parody video called ‘sherlock the musical” it’s so funny bc my irl friend robin thinks he looks like martin freeman
OTHER THINGS I JUST LIKE ABOUT HIM
he’s not afraid to post whatever on his socials 💀 like i’ll be scrolling and that one pic of him licking the screen is there and i’m like 😀 ok andrew
hes really funny
hes honest and open about not being the best dancer which is so real ( so he showed up to newsies to audition and , in his own words , apparently the directors thought he was a good enough dancer to play a boy with a crutch BAHHAHA WHICH IS SO RELATABLE OH MY HOD )
i think that’s it!! please enjoy i’m soo tired i’ll do some more ranting soon :3
thank you for all the knowledge! fun fact: I saw Celia perform in TKAM (very good) and my grandma used to baby sit Jeff Daniels' (Atticus) cousin because they grew up in the same town
also the note about his lack of dancing skills reminded me of his old youtube videos and one video he was talking about an audition he botched (there was basketball choreo he was supposed to learn) and instead, because he didn't know what to do, he just put the basketball in his shirt and pretended to be pregnant??? hey directors like a strong acting choice and he delivered.

Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder! 02/08/2023
I was fortunate enough to see Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder! at the Underbelly as part of Edinburgh Fringe. I love love love this show; it was charming and hilarious and engaging it and had some really creative and clever technical aspects that I think are worth noting!!
The Underbelly is a theatre underneath a big upside-down inflatable purple cow and somehow we got lost looking for it lmfao. The theatre itself is very cool. It's pretty compact and the stage is just the floor with tiered seating surrounding it; it's very immersive!!
I really don't want to spoil this show because it's actually amazing. Go see it if you can!! After Fringe it'll be in (I think) Manchester and Bristol and I can't recommend it enough. But the basic plot is two girls from Hull have a true crime podcast and then their favourite true crime author gets murdered. Mystery solving ensues!!
CHARACTERS: The titular characters have a great dynamic. Kathy and Stella have some really cute and fun songs and exchanges and the actors bounce off each other really well. Their arcs and conflict weren't anything groundbreaking but I'm a sucker for that cliché (I don't want to spoil it tho). Also they had a very elaborate handshake: instantly a win for me, it's one of my favourite tropes. The other actors also did great!!
COMEDY: This show is fking hilarious. There are many funny one-liners but there are two running gags I remember the most. I don't want to spoil either of them, but one revolves around one actor playing about four different characters across the show - it had me in tears by the end.
COSTUME DESIGN: I loved the costumes! Kathy and Stella's outfits both differed quite a bit from the ones in the posters but were both still cute. The secondary cast all had different coloured jumpsuits which they kept on throughout the whole show and then changed their accessories to indicate different characters. There were some particularly speedy quick changes which I thought were pretty impressive.
LIGHTING AND SET DESIGN: The lighting up on the back wall was various neon lights designed to look like the red strings of a corkboard!! Their default colour was red but they changed depending on the scene. Also there are various scenes and songs in which characters have phones and laptops and these props have LED lights in them that changed colour, so often the lighting was done by the actors themselves!! I thought it was very creative. The set design was also clever. The two pianos were hidden behind/built into the desks that Kathy and Stella had and I just thought it was neat.
MUSIC AND BAND: The songs were all very catchy and had some witty and funny lyrics. I liked how jazzy the pianos were :). There were two keyboards, a guitar and a drumkit and all the musicians did excellent. Also at one point Stella accidentally knocked over the guitarist's music stand during the opening number and had to stealthily fix it lmao.
STORY: It had plenty of twists and turns and I was on the edge of my seat. My sister didn't actually even see the final twist coming lol. It was an engaging mystery with some fun subplots and dramas sprinkled throughout.
Also all the choreography was fun but in particular I'd like to appreciate the wheely chair choreography. I love all choreo that incorporates wheely chairs I feel all musicals should do this more.
The merch was an absolute bargain. The shirt and the tote bag are really high quality but combined were less expensive than one program at Newsies.
Bronte Barbe was so so lovely and she said she thought my Katherine art was adorable. I hope she likes it. Meeting her was really special and I wish I told her how much of an inspiration she's been to me. I actually bumped into her and a few other cast members before the show started but they seemed in a rush so I didn't say anything lol. One of them gave me a big smile tho!!
I'd give Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder! a 9/10. It was INCREDIBLE and I could not stop smiling the entire duration of the show. I really hope it can get a wider tour or a transfer somewhere or something cos I'd love to see it again!!
I'm going back up to Edinburgh Fringe in a week or two to see my brother perform as part of Free Fringe (and I might get to see a non-binary ex-nun stand-up comedian), will give you more updates and reviews then!!

maybe i’m just a hater but i saw illinoise last night and was not impressed!! as much as i love dance-focused musicals like west side story and newsies, pure dance is really not my thing. i knew there wasn’t dialogue but i was expecting the actors to also sing, turns out there were separate singers that just. stood there the whole time with tacky butterfly wings. and i love the sufjan album but i do not think it is fit for the stage! this shit got me rethinking whether i actually enjoy theater lmfao.

aw, I always say my favorite musical changes every week but the ones that are my favorite most often (in no particular order) are
Rent
A Chorus Line
Cabaret
then after that (again only in order of what came to mind first)
4. Hadestown 5. Parade 6. Once on This Island 7. Matilda 8. Waitress 9. Into the Woods
4-9 changes weekly. Sometimes Merrily We Roll Along / Sweeney Todd / In The Heights sneak in there. Listened to Guys and Dolls today. Very nostaligic for like Newsies and Beauty and the Beast and Wicked. The Warriors was my most listened album this year on Apple Music despite only being out for like a month lmfao.
Not tagging anyone but I fully support all my followers / mutuals to partake!
Saw a mutual do this (Hi) - and thought in case anyone who followed me was curious here are my top 9 musicals (all the tenth spots were pretty equal in my mind). In order:
RENT!!!
Hamilton
West Side Story
Warriors
Cabaret
Tick Tick Boom
Chicago
In The Heights
Little Shop Of Horrors
Tenth could be anything from Sound Of Music to Death Note.
Warriors has shot up so much recently. I'm ecstatic about that really.
Unfortunately RENT's my number one.
*Sigh* God I love RENT so much. I wish there was a musical I loved half as much as RENT man.... (I very much dislike the movie though)
I wish I could stop caring about it, but my mind will never let me move on. That's love, I guess.

k so yall voted to see my 2023 final essay for a class called london in performance. which wasnt too serious. basically i compared the national theatre's phaedra [which i did not like that much tbh. one of the lines in my paper is "to truly send the criticism home, compared to the white critics who praised the play with four stars, Polish editor Andrzej Lukowski and Pakistani critic Arifa Akbar are the ones to only give two stars on the story that centers an illegal immigrant (The Stage)." just saying] as an adaptation of a classic greek play to the west end's general cash-in commercialization. and then my argument was that the center of that pendulum is somehow fucking newsies @ the troub im so sorry.
HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS:
first of all i got to cite myself as like. an expert which was SO funny
"To preface, because of my five years of close knowledge about this subject matter, its multiple stagings, scripts, and casts, I am well aware that this musical as a whole is quite average."
importantly, my definition of a revival in this paper is "creating something accessible to a modern audience for the sake of improving and adapting an original source material into a performance". if it doesnt improve and/or adapt it then it fails imo
"Lines [in the script] that hold weight are sort of dropped, in favor of keeping the show hopeful at all times. The reflection lies in the younger generation taking hold of a new age, rather than in workers rights, child poverty and abuse, and unification.  Newsies at Wembley Park, the first professional revival and first iteration of the musical outside of the United States, flips this as a performance."
i called newsies 2012/livesies staging "left-right up-down" like a video game combo lmfao
"Wembley Park’s revival inserts viewers into the action of the city by default, but also the events that befall the newsboys.... Two police officers stalk in front of the audience as a scene with a new sense of impending doom plays out on the stage. The strikebreaking battle is... level with many of the audience’s seats, and boys escape officers and grown men through the aisles helping each other stand upright while shouts of “Move, move!” are called out .... as a pair hurry away up a ladder behind my aisle seat."
"The expansive take on staging (since as I said before, the musical itself is average) almost takes the place of design. ... Pulitzer’s desk resides on top of a platform of newspaper stacks, emphasizing his position in the hierarchy over the children selling those papers especially as the newsboys push it on with much effort. The towers are made to look like black metal with rust and peels. The lighting is white and natural during scenes. The ensemble’s costumes look more similar to each other, making them appear more unified visually compared to Broadway. The design is in the ensemble’s interactions, dance, and fluid movement through the city of the show, letting the performance and the dancers speak for themselves."
then mandatory michael section:
"What struck me the most watching it had to be Jack’s casting, and new character positionality within the context of the story. Never before has Jack Kelly been a Black newsboy union leader, not in any professional production. Played by Michael Ahomka-Lindsay, Jack’s role was much more electric. His fear of leading the strike became more personal, his baggage with the reform center gained more onstage intersectionality, his relationship with Katherine became even more complex and out of reach. It changes many of those past dropped lines, it made me hear lines differently than I had used to. It’s a more effective reflection that makes the events in the story a bit more tangible to an audience that could have initially been caught up in the grandiose dance numbers- not to mention the performance opening amidst strikes nationwide."
best part:
jack-kellys. "Welcome to..." Jack-Kellys, 23 Jan 2023, 3:46AM, this-is-what-i-mean-by-five-years-of-close-experience.

JACK OR DAVEY FOR THE 4 DIFFERENT HC THING
bold of you to assume i won't do both
but this one is just gonna be Jack!!! feel free to send in a davey one too LMFAO
JACK KELLY:
Headcanon A: realistic
though his paintings are really great, his favorite art medium is actually just charcoal/graphite and a sketchbook!
he loves making portraits and drawings of the world around him and the people he sees. his paintings are reserved for those faraway dreams he has!
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
jack kelly is not good with words.
he's great at public speaking, he's great at putting on an act, but when he's having one-on-one conversations? his words just Don't Come Out and it leads to some very funny situations
sometimes his brain short circuits while he's speaking and he just,, can't seem to say anything right, or can't fine the words he needs to use, and he stutters really badly and ends up just. laughing at himself in the middle of a conversation
everyone around him knows that he just needs a sec to think and then he's golden tho !!
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
did i hear "mom friend Jack Kelly who acts the way he does because he never got attention or love and thus thinks other people are more important than himself" orrrr ??
anyway yeah. jack puts everyone else in front of his own feelings because, through trial and error, he's conditioned himself to believe that he just,, doesn't matter as much as anyone else. that's a fact. he's not upset about it. if anything, he understands. why would anyone want to pay attention to his problems?
this is why he throws himself into fixing problems for his boys. he cares about them and he wants them to have someone there to help; since no one else does it, he steps up and becomes the "leader" of the "family" because that's what he needed as a young newsie.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
ok these aren't super "unrealistic" but i NEED to talk about bisexual latino jack
first off: personally i hc him as mixed! i'm mixed so it just ,, adds in a little extra sprinkle of relatability in there !!
so my headcanon is that his mother is latina and his father is white. and more often than not i hc that his father isn't,, great, but his mother needs a safe place to raise a child so she stays. jack grows up learning primarily English but his mother also gives him Spanish lessons whenever she can!! by the time she passes away he's fairly fluent in both and he tries to keep the Spanish up to honor her.
and also yeah jack is bi. he's bi. there's nothing you can tell me to make me not think he's bi. no matter who he's with, bi. davey? still bi. kath? still bi. and i love him for that
thank you sm for this babe !!

I mean idk if you’ll like any of these but here are some of my favorites:
- Stardust (edit: just now realized you put this in the tags haha sorry!!)
- A Long Way Down (TW: Suicide is a huge theme of the movie, but it generally isn’t super sad?? if you want I can tell you whether it has a happy ending or not!!)
- Tuck Everlasting
- Zombieland (TW: I mean it’s a zombie movie so guns and blood and obvi zombies.)
- Warm Bodies (Think Romeo and Juliet but zombie and wholesome af)
- Hotel Transylvania (listen, the first one was good! 3rd and 4th not so much,,, but the first one and second one were pretty good. Really wholesome!)
- How to Train Your Dragon (all of them, tho they make me sad af)
- Matilda
- Madeline
- Flushed Away
- A Christmas Prince (ok listen,,, this is a very stupid romance movie. I still think it’s wholesome and a bit of a guilty pleasure lol)
- Monster House (A classic)
- Paranorman (if you like movies with Tim burton vibes,,,, yes)
- Coraline
- The Giver (listen I fully understand if people don’t like this movie but I think it’s underrated and has some good themes)
- The Old Guard (possibly some of the best gay representation I’ve ever seen,, really really good. It follows a group of immortals)
- Megamind
- Kate (it’s on Netflix and is an action movie)
- A Man Called Otto (ok,,, it’s really sad but also really wholesome. Big Found Family vibes and has a Trans Male character whom I love very much)
- The Meg (arguably the best shark movie I’ve seen. I normally don’t like shark movies cause it gives sharks a bad rap but this one is highkey really entertaining)
- Alita Battle Angel (VERY sci-fi)
- Earth Girls are Easy (possibly the weirdest movie on the list,,,, but damn if it isn’t funny. You can watch it free on YouTube I believe)
- Nanny McPhee (a childhood fav of mine)
- BOLT (listen this movie is top tier)
- What we do in the shadows (funny vampires) (also just realized you put this in the tags too ahh 😅)
- Strange Magic (The music is a little weird but it’s got a really good romance)
- Twitches (listen,,, these movies are dumb af and don’t make sense,,, but I still love them way too much lmfao)

- Greatest Showman
- Santa Clause movies (listen,,, they’re actually great ok)
- Narnia
- Sky High (pretty good themes, really stupid but I love it anyways)
- Halloweentown!!!
Ok so this list is getting really long so I’ll cut it here, like I said these movies might not be for everyone but I’m a big movie watcher so I have tons more to share if anyone wants more lmao!!

💙🖤😕🎧🎻🎤🎲 :)
(the free space one is obviously for whatever you wanna talk about but feel free to talk more about your dislike for alw)
💙First musical I remember being my favorite:
Wicked! It was basically the entire reason i got into theatre in the first place (which is crazy bc im literally going into it as a profession soon) and actually started off on complete accident <3
🖤Rough number of sountracks ive listened to:
Gosh. Suffice it to say i have discalculia and therefore no real concept of amount, but its like. A lot. Quite a fuckin few my dudes.
😕Unpopular opinion:
Maury Yeston’s Phantom is the better adaptation of the phantom of the opera book. Vocally, story-wise, and just overall. Its better and it was written a year before alw’s so it deserved to be the longer running one and im salty about it
🎧Sountrack i could listen to on repeat:
Great comet. Never will i tire of great comet
🎻Favorite musical moments:
God. So many. How to list?? (I go apeshit for music)
• satan’s SICK guitar shred in spooky mormon hell dream
• The walking baseline in satisfied after “at least i keep his eyes in my life”
• the trumpets at the beginning of the Newsies overture
• the trombone trills at the end of the Crazy for You overture
• constraaaaaaained and straaaaaained
• “Find a waaaaayyy, Anastaaaaaaasiaaaaa!” In Quartet at the Ballet
I have def more but its 6 am as km writjng this ahaaaaaa
🎤Favorite musical based on singing:
Great comet. Vocal fuckin powerhouse absolutely
🎲On why i hate ALW:
Dude, the guy’s a hack. His music just. Isnt good. Plus the amount of plagiarism is INSANE. Mans plagiarizes himSELF!! I wish i had a better way to articulate this lmfao.
Like: music of the night is a note for note mozart composition, and MAYBE it was on purpose but i think that its lazy. And he steals riffs from other songs and his finales are all the same.
PLUS HE DOESNT KNOQ HOW TO WRITE FOR SINGERS!! You ever wonder why there’s like 8 christines on broadway?? Bc there’s no healthy way for a human being to sing that that often
Plus i just. Dont think his musicals are that good. They’re soulless mega musicals and they make me mad.
I may have more probably but its hard to articulate sentences while seeing through seething hatred. Fucking goblin man.

Mike Faist x Fem Reader - His Smile
Just know I haven’t seen the Broadway musical- I’ve been watching clips of Mike Faist during the newsies to get his personality right lmfao, so I don’t know any other names, really.
The large, yet crowded studio boomed with laughter, and cheers as the clock struck just after 7:32. It was late, the cast having stayed behind an extra half hour to practice for the upcoming show that Friday.
You couldn’t help but pant slightly, despite the smile shown on your face, while taking a second to drink some water. Around you your friends were grabbing their own things, sweat collecting around the collar of their shirts.
Clicks and clacks of tap shoes sounded from against the floor, fellow cast members still having them fitted onto their feet. The sounds of it pricked against your ears, but you, mid conversation, didn’t feel like leaving the loud room quite yet.
It wasn’t until a few minutes later, having all your things stuffed into your bag, that you were ready to leave. The clock now read 7:46, nearly an hour overtime.
You carried your tired legs across the room, passing by a group of some of the leads who were leaving the dressing room.
Some still had the classic newsies caps on their heads, their messy hair poking out from under.
Among the group, was Mike- who had the honor of playing Morris Delancey. His brown hair was scattered across his forehead, the tips sticking to his skin from the sweat. A duffel bag was hanging loosely off his shoulder, bright smile plastered across his face.
“I’ll see you guys later.” You waved, small smile on your face. The group waved goodbye, a quick chorus of voices following swiftly- though your eyes never left those of Mike Faist.
He’d been on your mind quite a bit lately, you’d come to notice. You couldn’t pinpoint an exact time that it had started, nor could you try putting it into words. His presence was easy, comfortable.
And even now, as you left the building and lead yourself down the paved sidewalks of the city, you wished to be with him once more- missing the light hearted conversation he always could carry out.
You turned the corner, adjusting the strap of your bag against your shoulder. You told yourself you’d walk down to one of the parks before returning to the hotel, walking past the other people who walked down the street.
Over the cars and chatter of people you heard your name, calling out for you just a bit behind. You turned instinctively, only to be met with the sight of an already sweaty Mike jogging down the sidewalk to catch up.
“Mike?” You asked, slowing to a stop as you waited for him to catch up. He had that same smile on his face, taking a second to catch his breathe as he stopped in front of you.
“Y/n,” he nods in greeting, “just thought you’d like some company.” His joking tone made you smile, the two of you beginning to walk again.
“I appreciate it.” you laugh, tucking your hands into your pant pockets.
The friendly conversation carry’s out with ease, as you walked around corners to get to your original destination and he followed blindly.
“Sooo, favorite song so far?” His eyebrow lifted, tilting his head to look at you.
“King of New York- easy.” You say, his face lighting up in agreement.
“It’s so fun- isn’t it?”
“Exactly! The dancing is just-“
Before you knew it, big green fields were greeting you as you walked into the park. The sun was beginning to sink in the sky, an orange tint welcoming it at the edge of the horizon. Mike skipped a few steps ahead of you, turning around and walking backwards so he could continue to look at you through conversation.
The sudden head on view of him made your smile grow, his body facing yours now as you talked, telling you he was listening with nothing more than eye contact.
“So- tomorrow.” He starts, one hand slipping into his pocket as the other held into the strap of his bag.
“What about it?”
“Well,” he continues, and you noticed the small pink tint that danced across his cheeks. “I was wondering if you were free, y’know, for lunch or something.”
As he spoke, it took you a moment to catch on.
There would be times, during rehearsal especially, when you’d find him looking your way, anytime your eyes naturally found him in a crowd- only to find his had found you first.
In your denial, that always came with a new crush, you refused to think anything of it. Sometimes you thought it was foolish, feeling like a high school girl feeling all giddy and overthinking any glance or exchange.
But now you found yourself, standing with the boy in the middle of some random park at sundown. His hand ran up and down the rough strap of his bag, patiently awaiting your answer.
Your lips had fallen slightly agape, before they turned up into a smile.
“Sure- yeah, no let’s do that.”
His face brightens, both his and your cheeks hot as the blood flushed around them.
You both simply stand there for a moment,  giddy like school children before he finally steps forward.
“Well, c’mon now, still gotta get back to the hotel-“ he chuckles, leading you forward once again. You felt his arm brushing against yours as you left the park, noticing the proximity shortening between you two. It seems more comfortable, more exciting than it had on the walk there- the heat flushing around your face keeping the smile locked on your features, even as your cheeks grew sore.
The hotel eventually came into sight, the darkening sky shadowing over you, and that smile never left your face as Mike accompanied you through the doors, up the elevator, until parting at the door.
And hopefully, this would soon become a routine for the two of you.
so I know that ending was kind of shit- this isn’t my best work yet, but I wanted to get it posted for you. I hope you enjoyed nonetheless, and have a wonderful day/night everybody <3

Well yes of course! I meant to reply to this earlier, in hopes that I would’ve written it already, but I haven’t been able to yet. But as soon as I get home I can get started, and I’ll get that out for you!

hello bella i would like to ask you about future hearts, not in chronological order, and stories for monday -hazel
WAIT i pressed send too early i also wanted to throw a curveball and ask about the newsies original broadway cast recording :) -hazel
yeesh you picked some good ones hazel. okay. i'm gonna put a cut because four albums is a Lot.
send me albums!
future hearts - all time low
the first song from this album I heard: uhhhhhhh i don't remember, but i......hesitantly......say.......cinderblock garden. but i have no idea why i say that. no i don't really know at all.
do I own the album?: nope
my favorite song: don't you go but also if we're counting b-sides which we should be then how the story ends. and........edge of tonight. and runaways. i know that's a lot of songs i don't care.
my least favorite song: satellite i like it but it's unremarkable compared to the rest of the album and the structure of it is just a little weird to me
a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: there were two future hearts songs that for some inexplicable reason didn't download when i bought the album on itunes back in like 2015 when i used itunes and this album came out so i just didnt know they existed for several months, and those songs were bail me out and edge of tonight. this isnt really relevant since i love both of those songs but i just wanted to share. i guess...i think runaways has grown on me. honestly i think thats a result of including it in baby driver fic, lmao
a song I used to like, but now don’t: well i used to LOVE cinderblock garden and now as you can see i don't list it among my favorites. and the same with dancing with a wolf. and for that matter, also satellite lol
my favorite lyric: another impossible question <3 this doesnt really count but the line in tidal waves "say i'm your filthy little, filthy little-" always makes me smile bc when i was younger and my older sister and i would listen to that song whenever we got to that part we'd both yell WHORE at the top of our lungs. and in fact i still do. real talk though, i think the bridge of missing you might be my favorite lyric in here. "grit your teeth, pull your hair, paint the walls black, and scream 'FUCK the world 'cause it's my life, i'm gonna take it back' and never for a second blame yourself" yeah thats the GOOD shit. WAIT I LIE I HAVE ANOTHER ONE: "beautiful scars on critical veins" (mmm and also "roll like thunder, burn like stars") from kids in the dark. mmmm. and all of edge of tonight. man this album has some gooooooood gaskarth lines.
overall rating out of 10: honestly? 10/10. even with satellite. this is such a good fucking album i constantly underrate it but i love it so much it can do no wrong
not in chronological order - julia michaels (this one is gonna be trickier because i haven't listened to the whole album that many times but i'm gonna put it on while i answer the rest of these so hopefully i can have some real opinions here)
the first song from this album I heard: it would've been lie like this i think, because that song was out before any of the other singles
do I own the album?: nope :)
my favorite song: that's the kind of woman, pessimist, lie like this, all your exes. i really LOVE about half this album and the other half i just don't really know well enough
my least favorite song: orange magic just Does Not do it for me. idk man
a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: well i'm very much still working on familiarizing myself with these songs so i might still be in the phase of "didn't like at first" (betcha anything orange magic will grow on me lmao). there aren't any songs that i've changed my opinion on at least not yet
a song I used to like, but now don’t: see previous answer lol
my favorite lyric: "i love myself, but i'd love her more; that's the kind of woman i'd leave me for" from that's the kind of woman (that shit HITS), also "i'll stop checking horoscopes to cope with all my misery" and "you took a pessimist and turned me into something else" from pessimist because it gives me a lot of hope. and "it was you before i ever decided" from little did i know because :') romance
overall rating out of 10: 8/10 miss michaels KNOWS an album. this would probably be higher if not for orange magic lmao
stories for monday - the summer set
the first song from this album I heard: according to my spotify, all my friends! the first time i listened to this album was on shuffle while writing a prompt fic that was entirely unrelated. i know, it's appalling.
do I own the album?: no <3
my favorite song: MMMNNGNHHGJ i think. i think it's figure me out. and missin' you. yeah. those two
my least favorite song: honest to god i want to say all downhill from here but the little bass riff at the end of that song basically forbids me from saying that. so i'm gonna say change your mind instead. it's the vibiest but thats not why we COME to stories for monday now is it
a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: don't know, maybe all in? i can't remember ever not liking one of these songs tbh. ironically maybe the answer to this is change your mind lol
a song I used to like, but now don’t: well i listened to all my friends about five million times when i wrote that fic based on it so it's in the same situation as i think he knows now. i need a little bit of an all my friends break.
my favorite lyric: bro this is literally an impossible fuckign QUESTION!! the entirety of figure me out. "i'm a bit too punk for the pop kids, but i'm too pop for the punk kids" and "i believe there's more to life than all my problems" both are really close to my heart. the bridge of all in about it being 4am in the parking lot we'll be singing blink songs til the sun comes up, that too. wait wait okay and also: "forever nineteen somehow" from jean jacket and "growing up can make you stupid, why is everyone so scared?" from wasted. okay okay i'm done i'm done
overall rating out of 10: fucking 11/10 bro this is in my top 10 albums ever i'm pretty sure
newsies - original broadway cast recording
the first song from this album I heard: no fuckin idea. it must have been the overture because i never listened to the cast recording before watching the bootleg so!
do I own the album?: i do not
my favorite song: mmm i. LOVE once and for all. but i also love watch what happens reprise. and brooklyn's here. and carrying the banner. ugh fuck i love so many of these songs.
my least favorite song: the bottom line reprise lmfao easy
a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: i don't know, i guess i like the bottom line a LITTLE more than i used to but it's a very low bar. wait actually, the overture. i have a much greater appreciation for an overture than i used to.
a song I used to like, but now don’t: i honestly can't think of one. maybe similar effect to something to believe in? i like it SLIGHTLY less but i still really like it so?
my favorite lyric: EASY answer, this lyric is among my favorites in all of musical theatre, i had it written on my mirror for a long time in high school. this part from seize the day: "behold the brave battalion that stands side by side / too few in number and too proud to hide / then say to the others who did not follow through / 'you're still our brothers, and we will fight for you'"
overall rating out of 10: 9/10. fucking banger of an album. i always say this is the best cast recording for a car ride and i stand by that
