hi karlo ! i'm sure you've gotten a ton of compliments in the past on the quality of your gifsets, but they really are so clean and sharp. do you have a guide for how you make them or any tips to offer ?

Ahh thank you so much :') a few moots have asked in the past as well so I figured I'd do a quick list of what I do to make quality (gaming) gifs!

Get the best quality footage you can. Your final gif is 100% dependent on your source footage quality. I record all my gaming clips myself in lossless using OBS. Yeah this is probs overkill & it's gonna eat a LOT of storage space, but it really makes a difference, especially when you're dealing with dark footage or applying a lot of adjustment layers!

Edit in RGB/16. (In the Photoshop menu bar, Image -> Mode) Related to the previous point, I edit in RGB 16 bits/channel. This gives your pixels more 'wiggle room' to work with in terms of color. This means you get cleaner gradients, less jaggy sharpening & avoid color banding, especially in darker areas.

Remove duplicate frames. Might seem like a minor thing but this lets you cut down that filesize, & more importantly squeeze in that much more movement in your gif to make it more impactful.

Everything else you do for editing (sharpening, coloring, adjustment layers, gif speed etc) is really up to your personal preference and style as a gifmaker. I use three (3!) smart sharpen layers on all of my gifs, you might find this too much or too little depending on the clip you're dealing with. Experiment!

BONUS TIP: use the DELC Sharpen effect/quint_sharp.fx in ReShade for extra crispy textures when capturing footage 😏😏😏

What shaders / edits do you do if any? Your captures are fantastic!

ahh thank you so so much !! !!!! i'm still new to reshade and trying to figure out what everything does ; for now i have to fix colors, light and sharpness manually in photoshop [dodge and burn are my bestest friends, also started adding grain textures] but that makes every capture feel somewhat unique and i kinda like that. i usually only have ADOF and MXAO active, sometimes a bit of COLOR ISOLATION.

hey!! it shouldn't matter if you save it as a png or dds, i think an update to sims 4 studio has made them essentially the same. if you want to learn more about composition methods, i find this post super helpful!! also, i've started using the color slider mod which is amazing because if you use s4s to batch fix your cc (i can't remember which one it is, i just run all of them) then you can use the sliders to decrease the opacity of skin details in-game! it saves a ton of time if you're not planning to make a whole skin blend

oh sorry to hear that! normally i do want to fulfill these kind of requests but personally i think adult sims look too young without it, cause they're supposed to in their 40s to 60s and most adults do have some wrinkles there. i could make a simple overlay skin detail to cover them up if you want, but it'd be too much work to make an additional default version for my skins without the wrinkles. and thank you for the kind words <3 !!

hi! i'm sorry, i made the original version like 1.5 years ago and the newer version of them that i uploaded i don't have the psd file for anymore. i'm making a new version of the asteria eyes as i mentioned in my last post with which i'll include the .psd though, and i'll add the old catchlights to it as an alternative.

maybe in the future i will, but i have to reupload all the thumbnails per swatch and gender for each file by hand so it's just such an annoying process to add more categories for them (and i really dont feel like doing it currently sorry 😫). if you want to you can also do it yourself easily if you don't mind them not having thumbnails with this tutorial.

Ahh thanks so much! I'm definitely having a blast with BG3 photography.

I'm not sure if I have a definitive answer for you, but it's a combination of:

cranking my graphics as high as they can go

utilising the tools from this post (camera, reshade, depth of field)

finding just the right lighting angle (this can truly make or break a shot in my experience)

a lot of trial and error and patience haha

1. What’s your favourite sims death? I normally just let my sims die of old age, but I definitely have some favorites. My favorite from TS4 is being Consuming by the Mother. And my favorite from TS3 is jellybean plant - mostly because I love the color of the jellybean ghost, haha!

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match? Maxis Mix! I will use an Alpha hair if the edit I'm doing works better with that, but otherwise I only use MM hair, and a mix of Alpha and MM clothes.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? No. I like to make them lose weight naturally if I want them to, if not? They're gonna just be like me.

4. Do you use move objects? I have a mod that makes it so move objects is always on, so yeah.

5. Favorite mod? Oh gosh... I have a lot of mods I can't live without, but for modern gameplay I gotta say the LGBTQIA+ mod by Lumpinou has changed my life. I don't have to choose my sims' orientations and genders anymore! Finally!

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got? For TS4, the first pack I got was Get to Work.

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? aLIVE, but that's because I think of it like "we're going live," like for TV and such.

13. Favorite life stage?  Young adult probably - you can do the most things while still being young enough to have a lot of time left. Plus, this is the time when you can move spares out of the house, haha.

14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? Definitely in it for the gameplay. Occasionally, I LOVE building, but I have to be in the right mindset for it.

15. Are you a CC creator? Sometimes! More mods than CC, though. I can't mesh to save my life, but I can make poses, CAS backgrounds, loading screens, and the occasional small mod.

16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad? Mmm yeah I'd say so! Maybe not a sim squad, but definitely some simblr friends.

17. What’s your favorite game? (1, 2, 3, or 4)  I have the most fond memories of 3. If my computer was better, you'd have to suffer through a TS3 legacy from me too. 😌

22. Who’s your favorite CC creator?  Ahh... that's so hard. For hair it's daylifesims, and for clothes it's Sifix.

24. How do you edit your pictures? Reshade + MS Paint or iPiccy. I'm not clever or rich enough for fancy programs.

25. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? I think I want the Cool Kitchen Stuff next, because... ice cream.

Ahh, your posts are always so beautiful, so this means a lot to me! A few different people have mentioned editing/aesthetics, so I'll single it out here. I enjoy experimenting and am also never satisfied, so I feel like I'm a little all over the place sometimes. I'm sure it can be a bit weird to see my legacy posts side by side with my newer content because there's such an aesthetic difference (mainly the lack of Reshade). But I kind of like it because it shows how much I've grown/changed in that regard since starting this blog. Seeing everyone else's amazing work pushed me to start trying new things, which I'm very grateful for. :)

Huangdi Luo, the Hidden Dragon Painter Aspiration || Goofball , Genius, Loves the Outdoors  26, Male (he/him)

The Kunlun Kingdom is far to the southeast, and is home to extensive rivers and flourishing trade ports. While it’s grip on southern waters is unrivaled, it is looking to expand trade relations with more countries in the west.  Denmark’s invitation for potential matchmaking couldn’t have come at a better time. The ruling Empress Tian, send word that her younger and only brother would be happy to attend.  Without asking of course.  The growing the kingdom’s strength takes first priority for her.   

Huandi would normally request his sister not to involve him in her trade diplomacy, but he has to admit that the picture of the pretty brunette the messenger showed him caught his eye...

- Ever since Huandi was born he’s been a little bit of a playful trickster, painting fake doors in the castle, greeting public officials with an orange smile in his mouth, and putting frogs in places where frogs shouldn’t be.  However as he grew older, he has had to take on more and more responsibility in the kingdom’s affairs.  Meaning less time for elaborate pranks, but the occasional bag of air on the state official’s chairs still surfaces from time to time.

-  Despite hailing from a long line of magical elves, Huandi actually doesn’t have much magic power.   The most he can do is sense other auras around him, but that’s it.  This lack of magic is a small insecurity within him, but he hasn’t yet encountered a situation where it truly bothered him.

- Just because Huandi is known as a prankster, doesn’t mean you should underestimate his ability to be a prince and strong leader.  Since he does not have magical powers, he poured himself into his daily studies in order to prove himself worthy of his role.  He strength lies in forming strategies of all kinds.  In fact, plans for improving the infrastructure and state of the kingdom are the only reason the council puts up with his jokes in all honesty.

- Huandi hates wearing his royal garments and will most likely be seen in western style clothes that some travelers wear as they pass through the city, much to his sister’s disapproval. 

 - Every now and he escapes the city, most likely without anyone knowing, to the enchanted mountains and forests in his land to paint and destress from busy castle life.  Painting is a hobby he continued from childhood, and he believes it important to help immortalize his feelings and surroundings at that very moment. 

-  He is a formidable martial artist and spear/staff wielder, but can’t sail a ship!  A surprising fact, considering the vast bodies of water near and in his kingdom.

 - He has a snaggletooth!
