You wiped the same spot on the counter for the fifth time as you looked at the clock on the wall behind you. It was already fifteen past seven and they werenât here yet. You were starting to get antsy. They always showed up at seven like clock work and you hadnât seen them leave for a call. No flashing lights and loud sirens had been heard or seen.
God you felt pathetic. When did your life come this?
Pining over a hot firefighter who worked across the street and probably only acknowledges your existence for free slices of pie and haphazard flirting. He was so handsome youâd let him flirt with you for free pie any time. You really did feel pathetic, but it had been a long time since a very attractive man made your palms sweat and stomach flutter. Even if there was a chance it was all just out of boredom on his end.
When that hope in your chest that theyâd come began to diminish you looked up one more time, just in case. Thatâs when you spotted the group men walking out of the fire station across the street. A smile involuntarily appeared on your lips. Your favorite part of the week finally arrived.
Youâve been working at Pennyâs since high school so you were familiar with the little routine the men across the street carried on. You had grown up with most of the guys having known them since you were a teenager. A couple of them now even being your old classmates. Except for him.
Rafe had started a few months ago and you hadnât stopped thinking about him since his first visit to Pennyâs. It was rare to see a handsome face like his in this small town. It was rare to see a new face period.
You spotted him right away. He could surprisingly pull off the buzzcut and mustaches always did something for you. He was tall with big arms, how could anyone not like him.
From behind the register you watch through the windows as he laughed at something one of the other guys said rubbing his hand over his mustache. A habit you noticed he had. God did he look as handsome as ever. You wanted to know what his mustache felt like against the skin of your neck and against your inner thighs.
The bell above the door rang as the group of men walked into the small diner. You pretended to be busy by wiping the spot next to the one that you had spent the last fifteen minutes on. Doing your best to seem nonchalant like you hadnât been anticipating their arrival all day by staring out the windows. You would never do something like that.
You looked up and smiled at the familiar faces welcoming them in. They greeted you as they walked to their usual booth in the corner.
Rafe was the last to walk in giving you a smirk and a small nod as he passed. His navy blue tee shirt fit tightly over his chest and biceps. Always a sight for sore eyes. You were practically drooling, you wanted to bite him. Wanted to feel his big hands all over your skin.
You cleared your throat and took a deep breath feeling your cheeks get hot. You needed to push those thoughts away or youâd do something embarrassing. Brushing your hands on your apron you approached them, pulling out your favorite pen and sticker covered order book.
You may or may not have put a little more effort into your appearance today. For no particular reason of course, but if he was going to flirt with you then you might as well play into it. At least thatâs what you told yourself when you applied lashes and added some blush to your cheeks.
âHey guys, what can I get you all to drink?â You asked once standing in front of the table as if they didnât order the same thing every time.
âIâll take a coffee my dear,â Captain Morales said smiling. Heâs known you for years now and looked out for you as if you were his own daughter.
Rafe was last to order. That smirk making itâs way to his lips again, âIâll take a coffee y/n,â His eyes lingered on your glossy lips. Little did you know that he was thinking about how he could just eat you up.
As his eyes raked over you face he didnât miss the red tinge in your cheeks. Heâd do anything to make it an even deeper red. Specifically have you blushing profusely under him or even on top of him. Then he started to think about you bent over and ready for him.
âComing right up!â You said sweetly before heading off to get the coffees breaking whatever trance he was in.
-
Wednesdayâs had become Rafeâs favorite day of the week. Not only was it technically his friday but he got to see his favorite girl. He always thinks about the first time he saw you. You were arguing with a customer who thought their expired coupon should still be valid. He watched as the guy threw his soda at you and before him or any one else could step in you punched the guy in the nose and dragged him out by his collar. The idiot cradling his nose bleeding nose.
That has been the hottest thing Rafe had ever witnessed.
âNow itâs free! Never come back dick head!â You yelled at him as you stomped back into the diner. After spending a few minutes in the back changing into a tee shirt you had in your locker you went to their table. Your tough demeanor had vanished and you held a soft smile on your face. Thatâs when he knew he was fucked.
-
Y/n walked back behind the counter to grab mugs and the coffee pot. You knew youâd probably have to make another fresh pot after serving them. Your best friend, Grace, had returned from her break and was wiping menus staring at the table of men.
âMatt looks so good. If we donât get laid by these hot men we need to quit and become nuns,â Grace said quietly as she eyed the firefighter sheâs had her eye on since he moved to town a few years ago.
Y/n snorted, âIâve given up on mine. Itâs been months and itâs just flirting and checking me out,â she shrugged, âOur hook ups and incredibly romantic dates will remain in my fantasies.â
âDonât say that when Iâve been waiting a year now for mr brown eyes,â Grace huffed, âWhy doesnât he do anything. He acts like Iâd say no to him.â
âYou could ask him out,â You said handing her three mugs to help you take everything. Mostly so she could get closer to Matt.
She laughed dramatically, âYouâre so funny Y/n! And after that Iâll call my dad since weâre saying things that are never going to happen.â
âOh come on he could never say no to you,â You encouraged.
âThen you ask blondie out.â
You stared blankly at her.
She snorted, âThatâs what I thought. Lets just continue to admire from afar so the hottest men weâve ever seen donât reject us.â
You followed behind her with a sigh. Itâs not like you hadnât thought about asking Rafe to hang out. Itâs just that you had that nagging feeling in your chest that maybe he didnât want to see you anywhere outside the diner. You cleared your throat to rid the anxiety that began to bubble in your stomach. You didnât have time to over think that right now.
Grace placed one of the cups in front of Matt and he looked up at her with a shy smile, thanking her softly. They were two idiots in love.
âAre we ready to order?â You asked after filling the last mug.
âYes maâam,â Stanford said. One of the other older fire fighters.
It was always hard paying attention to their orders when Rafeâs ocean eyes were boring into you. He always had that affect of turning you into complete mush.
âFor you Rafe?â You asked tilting your head to the side slightly.
A teasing smile pulled at his mouth, âBacon cheeseburger with fries please.â
âNo onions?â
He nodded. His pants getting a bit tight at the thought of you remembering something about him.
âYou got it, Iâll put this is for you boys.â You smiled an walked away. A little extra sway to your hips hoping Rafe was watching but hoping you werenât making a fool of yourself.
-
A slap to the back of his head got Rafe out of his trance. He ducked rubbing his head turning towards the culprit. His wonderful view of your ass ruined.
âOw?â He muttered looking over at Miguel next to him.
âAre you just going to check her out every fucking week or are you going to do something?â He asked with a teasing tone.
Rafe ran a hand through his hair, âI donât have time for a girl right now.â
âYouâre such a fuckin liar,â Morales laughed as he sipped his black coffee.
Rafe rubbed his face, âIâm working on it okay.â
Morales smirked knowing he was getting under his skin, âYou and baby face over here need to grow a pair or someone else is gonna realize how wonderful those women are and beat you to it.â
âHey what do I have to do with this,â Matt muttered rubbing his mustache.
Miguel laughed, âDude Grace has been pining for you for forever and donât act like you donât feel the same.â
His began blushing at the thought of her, âWhatever. Sheâs too good for me anyways.â
âSpare me the pity party Anderson and ask the woman out,â Morales said and then pointed at Rafe, âAnd you. Do something or donât. Donât string her along with whatever flirting shit you do.â
Rafe huffed, âYeah Yeah.â
He turned to look for you tuning out whatever new conversation started between the men. He found you laughing with Grace as you both rolled napkins with silverware. He loved your laugh and your smile. It was so infectious and warm. Rafe had no idea he could feel this way towards someone.
At first it was all lust. Your attractiveness captivated him, especially knowing you didnât put up with anyoneâs shit but also still a complete sweetheart. He moved to this town because he needed a fresh start. He didnât expect to pine after a woman who was way too good for him.
Rafe continued to watch as you walked around helping other customers. The sway of your hips made him want to grab onto them. Pull you against him as he kissed down your neck from behind. Heâd love to hear your laugh as his mustache tickled your ear. He could already see how pink your cheeks would get at the dirty words heâd whisper in your ear if you let him.
You had no idea that you could have him on his hands and knees for you.
-
Captain Morales had paid for their dinner and they had gone back to the station. Of course the meal was filled with Rafeâs longing glances towards you. Some not so subtle flirting on his end, you of course didnât do it back in front of the other guys. But when theyâd al go outside to wait for the captain to pay he would linger as you wiped down their table.
That nights conversation had firmly planted that seed of hope. Hope that heâd finally pull a move on you since there was a fundraiser barbecue at the station this weekend. Obviously you would be there because you would never miss an opportunity to support your community. It had nothing to do with the fact that Rafe was going to be there.
âYouâre coming this weekend right? Or do they have you working?â He had asked with a smirk.
You shook your head with a teasing smile, âNot working, donât worry Iâll be there.â
âGood.â
âGood?â You teased tilting your head a little in a questioning manor.
He nodded, âIâd be bored without my favorite girl.â
You huffed a flustered laugh, âYou mean server?â
He shook his head, âI meant what I said.â
-
Rafe watched as you laughed with Mrs.Garcia about something as you helped pass out desserts. It had been almost three hours since the fundraiser started and he had gotten to talk to you only a handful of times.
He was put on grill duty and you had been pulled in all directions by people. Rafe liked the small town atmosphere of the place and it was one of the reasons why he was glad he got hired at that station, but now he was starting to hate it. Why did everyone have to know you and take you away from him.
You were just as disappointed as him. Every time you would try and make your way to the grill someone would pull you to help with something or the kids would want you to watch their dance routine they made up. You could feel his eyes on you and when you looked back at him heâd smirk. That stupid devilish handsome smirk.
The sun had begun to set and people were starting to clear out. You looked around and found Rafe helping take down all of the tables and put away chairs. Being ordered around by Captain Morales. You sighed, maybe you and Rafe were always meant to just have flirty banter. Nothing more.
You didnât want to wait around until he was free again and you didnât want to bother him so you accepted your fate. Before you left you wanted to use the restroom so you made your way into the firehouse.
Once Rafe was done helping clean up he looked around for you. He didnât see you anywhere. His chest filled with disappointment as to how the night went. He thought this would be his chance to talk to you outside your job and maybe even take you home. His disappointment was clear on his face as he continued to look around as if youâd come out of thin air any moment.
Beside him someone cleared their throat, âShe went inside a couple minutes ago,â Captain Morales said.
Rafe looked over at him with furrowed brows, âhuh?â
âYour girl. Sheâs inside. Now hurry before you miss your chance,â He nodded towards the open door.
Rafe laughed, âHow do you even-â
âSon you two look at each other like you both hung the moon Iâd be an idiot to not know. Now please go get her I donât want to have to deal with your attitude later if you miss your chance.â
Rafe nodded his head with a wide smile, âYes sir.â
He made his way into the firehouse to look for you. Hopefully you hadnât slipped by him. As he turned the corner to where the restrooms were he found you standing looking at some pictures hanging on the wall.
He stood there for a minute just admiring you. Your soft cheeks and long lashes. Your long smooth legs in that sundress that looked a bit too short and tight on you. It made something in his stomach stir. He cleared his throat to gain your attention.
Your head snapped towards him. Eyes widening in surprise, you werenât expecting him. Rafe walked over to stand by you and see what you were staring at. It was a picture of the whole station. Then a picture of him and a couple other guys.
âStaring at me huh?â He asked with a smirk.
You rolled your eyes playfully, âYou wish Cameron.â
âI do.â He turned to look at you. That dreamy look in his eyes, âYou almost got away from me today.â
You laughed softly, âSorry. I was trying to come up to you but you know how it is.â
He nodded, âThatâs the unfortunate thing about liking a girl everyone loves. You couldnât help the hear that creeped up your neck at his confession.
He didnât let you say anything as he continued, âGuess that just means Iâll need to take you out on a date to get you alone.â
You let out a surprised huff, âOh yeah? Well weâre alone right now.â You looked around making a show of it.
He smirked, âSo you donât want to go on a date with me baby?â
This man was going to be the death of you, âOf course I do. Been waiting for you to ask.â
He laughed and took a step closer to you, âSorry itâs taken me so long. I liked that little dance we were doing, but let me make it up to you.â
Your body was on fire at everything he was saying. This man had to have been created in a lab with the way he was speaking to you. He was walking closer to you now and you took a few steps back until your back hit the wall of the hallway.
âHow are you gonna do that hm?â You tried to play cool as if your pulse wasnât racing in anticipation. Now you werenât usually a girl that hooked up with a guy before going on a date but that was going all out the window today if Rafe wanted to have his way with you.
He reached forward and stroked your cheek with his thumb. His eyes going down to your lips. His tongue poking out to wet his bottom lip as your parted, âBy fucking you.â
Your eyes widened slightly. Thighs clenching at his non filtered confession, he really was done playing the cat and mouse game. You didnât even care. Your brain became complete mush and you would let him fuck you in this hallway right now if he wanted to.
âYou gonna let me do that hm?â He asked as if he didnât already know the answer by the way your thighs clenched and your nipples hardened underneath your dress.
You nodded slowly as if you were under a spell. Your heart was erratic as you pictured this tall handsome man fucking you in his big arms. You could cum just thinking about it.
His thumb tugged gently as your bottom lip, âWords baby come on.â
âYes please,â You said softly.
Thatâs all he needed to hear before he took your hand and dragged you into the room next to you. It was one of the rooms where they came to sleep during over night shifts. It had a desk, bunk beds, and one single bed. He locked the door behind him before pushing you up against the desk. Rafe and you were panting and you hadnât even touched each other yet.
He cupped your face in his hands and groaned, âYouâre so beautiful I canât keep my hands to myself anymore.â
âThen donât,â You murmured in a haze as he dove in to capture your lips in his.
He groaned and moved his hands down to your waist and then to your hips. Pulling you even closer to him as you parted your mouth to let him have more access. He was everywhere and it felt so good. His tongue explored your mouth as his hands grabbed and squeezed at your body. The light whimpers and moans leaving your mouth sending him into a frenzy.
He pulled away with hazy eyes and swollen lips, âFuck Iâve been thinking about this for long.â
You nodded your head rapidly, âMe too.â You said breathlessly. You felt like you were in a Rafe enduced trance. He moaned at the sight of your swollen lips and the strap of your dress had fallen in the haste.
He pushed you back so you were sitting on the desk now with him between your parted legs. He leaned forward and began pressing open mouthed kisses to your neck. You tilted your head back giving him more room. Your fingers tangled in his hair. Tugging when he kissed that one particular spot below your ear. He bit at your neck and you gasped as his tongue soothed the sting. You had never been so turned on in your life, and he hadnât even touched you really.
That changed when his hands slid down your hips to your thighs. He squeezed them loving the feel of them. Rafe couldnât wait to have them wrapped around his head, he wanted you to suffocate him. He needed you to suffocate him with your pussy.
He played with the hem of your dress as he kissed your collarbone. He was being a tease, âI thought the teasing was over.â You mumbled with hooded eyes. You wanted him to just shove the dress up and fuck you.
He chuckled against the swell of your breast that he had been peppering with kisses, âPatience sweetheart. Iâll fill you up with my cock, tongue, and fingers in no time.â
You moaned at his words as he slipped the straps of your dress down and tugged the top part down to reveal your tits. He groaned at the sight of your perked nipples and leaned down taking one in his mouth. His other hand reaching for the other and brushing his thumb over the sensitive bud.
The moans that left your mouth were pornographic. It was like you had been touched in years which was only partly true.
âMmm youâre so sweet,â He groaned as he moved to the other one.
You sighed with pleasure, âI need you.â
He laughed softly going back to kiss you, âDonât worry baby Iâll give you what you need.â
His big hands grabbed your hips and pulled you off the desk in a swift motion. You thought he was going to take you to the bed and finally have his way. You should have known better with him, youâre starting to get that Rafe loves the anticipation. The chase of it all because he turned you around so his chest was on your back.
You could feel him aching agains your lower back. He felt so big and your mouth watered at the thought. You barely had any time to question what he was doing when you felt him press kisses from in between your shoulders and down your back. As he did he gently pushed you down to be basically bent over the desk. Then he was kneeling behind you.
His hands stroking your thighs as they shook in anticipation. He playfully bit your butt with a small groan. Rafe pushed your dress up to rest around your waist. Almost on instinct you arched your back and pushed your hips towards him. Needing for him to do something.
âPlease Rafe,â You murmured desperately.
He grinned sweetly, âYou sound so pretty asking nicely baby.â He reached his hand down to lightly stroke you over your underwear.
You gasped at the minimal contact. Then he was fully rubbing circles onto your clit. The wet patch at your center growing. He pulled your cheeks apart as he dove in and pressed wet kisses to your clothes pussy.
âFuck,â He groaned, âLet me have a taste yeah?â
You whined. Literally whined, âPlease Rafey please please.â You never thought you could be this desperate for a man. You could feel his smirk against your cunt.
He slid your panties to the side and dove in like a starved man. You gasped in surprised not expecting him to go all in since he had been teasing so much, but youâd thank God every day for it. You already knew youâd be thinking about his mouth for the rest of your life.
Rafeâs tongue massaged your clit in the best way and with the position his nose nudged at your entrance. His hands reached up to grab a handful of your ass and squeeze making you moan louder.
The room was filled with the sounds of his sucking and lapping as well as your whines. His hand then came down to slap one cheek. A motion that made you push yourself against his mouth even more.
Rafe would be a happy man if this is the way he went out. Drowning in your pussy. Your juices dripping down his chin as he mercilessly worked his tongue over you. The groans he let out adding to the pleasure.
Pressure built up in your lower stomach as that knot of pleasure tightened. You had never gotten so close so fast besides with your own hand. The way this man was lapping you up had your legs shaking.
âYes Rafe!â You exclaimed, âGonna cum!â
Your head flew back as your eyes shut in pleasure. The white hot euphoric feeling of your orgasm taking over.
âMhmmm,â He groaned as he continued to lick and suck, âFuck baby so good.â He mumbled as he continued his ministrations prolonging the intense feeling.
He pulled away once he had cleaned you up of everything you gave him, âSuch a messy girl huh,â He mumbled as he pulled your hair so your back was against his chest again. Your head tilted back onto his shoulder. Rafe had a way with words, it had your mind in a haze.
He moved his hand to cup your face and tilt it towards him even more so he could capture your lips in his. The kiss was sloppy and so hot.
You pulled away slightly and mumbled against his lips, âPlease please fuck me Rafey.â
He but his lip and groaned, âOf course baby anything you want.â
You expected him to shove his pants down and stuff his cock in you but you should have known him better. He spun you around so your back was pressed to the desk again. He tapped on the back of your thighs to get you to sit on it again and as you did he mumbled, âSo obedient.â
The scene in front of him looked so vulgar. You were sat at the desk with your dress bunched around your stomach. All the delicious parts Rafe wanted to dive into exposed. He took a mental picture to remember it even though this definitely wouldnât be the last time heâd have his way with you.
You reach out for him and tugged at his shirt wanting it off. He smirked as he took the hint and pulled it off. The sight of his toned chest and broad arms had you gushing all over again.
âWe should be quick now before they come looking,â He muttered as he began to undo his belt. He pulled his pants and boxers down to rest around his ankles. His cock on full display for you and you bit your lip as you took in the sight. Glassy eyes widening at the size, you had never seen one like that.
He tugged at it a few times to relieve the tension. The way you were looking at him was making his ego grow, and Rafe didnât really need that.
Grabbing where your knees crease he pushed your legs up so your feet were almost flat on the desk. Your core glistening and on display for him.
âFuck I canât wait to be in that nice wet pussy,â He couldnât away. He let you hold yourself up now as he grabbed himself and began sliding his tip through your folds. You let out small whimpers at the feeling. Then rubbed it over your clit, making you even wetter.
Rafe was having the time of his life. You felt so good against him he never wanted to stop. The way your nipples perked and your eyes practically watered in pleasure.
âYouâre so wet baby,â He slipped the tip into your entrance, âmmmph feel sâgood huh.â He smirked cockily as he pushed himself in deeper and deeper.
Your brows furrowed in pleasure as he stretched you deliciously. His thumb finding your clit and rubbing soft circles. Your head fell back with a sigh as he bottomed out.
He leaned forwards and kissed you softly as he started moving. You both moaned as he pushed back in hitting that sweet spot. He pulled away and leaned down to take a nipple in his mouth. Sucking and gently tugging.
Your hands were tangled un his short locks. As his movements grew faster and harder your hands moved all over. His shoulders, chest, back anywhere you could touch. Your nails leaving crescents in his skin as he continued to mumble obscenities into your ear.
âso good babyâ âthe most perfect pussyâ âmy good girl letting me fuck her so wellâ
The feeling of euphoria increasing as he continued. Rafe groaned as he felt you tighten around him. He was regretting one thing right now and that was waiting this long to fuck you.
âMâclose Rafe,â You whined as that familiar feeling spread throughout your body.
âI know,â He panted and started working faster, âCum for me baby come on. I know you can do it.â
His encouragement helped your release. As he felt you orgasm and tighten around him he neared the edge of his own orgasm.
âNeed you to cum in me,â You mumbled as he milked you for all you had.
His eyes rolled back at your statement, âFuuuck.â Then his hips snapped into you a few more times before he released inside you coating your walls in his cum. It felt so good to have him stuffed inside you. His head resting on your chest as he groaned. After a few minutes of your labored breaths Rafe slowly pulled out. The loss of him causing you to whimper and he just smirked.
You thought you guys were done but then Rafe looked down and slipped two fingers inside you.
âOh Rafe,â You gasped, âW-what are you doing?â
He bit his lip as he continued to watch his fingers pump in and out slowly, âFeeling how well you took all my cum baby.â
Then as if he couldnât be hotter and dirtier he removed his fingers and his cum was all over them. He took them and began rubbing it over your clit. The overstimulation made your toes curl and your mouth fall open.
The scene in front of him was so filthy and will be on constant reply for the rest of his life. The entire last hour he would be thinking about that forever.
He removed his fingers and you reached out grabbing his wrist to tug the fingers into your mouth. Licking and sucking his fingers clean.
âDirty girl,â He mumbled as you pulled them out with a pop.
He leaned in and kissed you softly, no more lust behind it. It was something else now. Rafe helped you fix your dress and pull your underwear back on after he pulled his pants back up.
âIâm kind of sorry I didnât take you out first but I also donât regret it because Iâve been wanting to get my hands on you for months,â Rafe said as you fixed your ruffled hair.
You smiled at him, âIâm not at all. You can still take me out and we can do that all over again.â
A loud banging on the door made you jump and rafe whip his head around.
âYou guys done yet? I need a nap,â one of the other guys yelled through the door.
Your face paled at the realization that you might now have been very quiet. Rafe just laughed, âOne minute!â
âOh god. I need to quit my job and move towns now,â You put your hands on your face in embarrassment.
Rafe laughed and kissed the back of your hands that covered your face, âNuh uh. Not running from me now.â

As someone who had Chronic Pain for the first like 25ish years of my life... Abled people literally do not understand the concept of a pain that never goes away.
They literally can't.
It's impossible. It even felt impossible for me because my pain was so early and so consistent that my brain literally just ignored it until one day I was doing physical therapy for a different injury... and it was just gone.
I felt it's absence and I felt the best I've felt in 20+ years.
I hadn't had a particularly good meal that day. Still had my stomach issues. Slept badly. My back hurt. Probably dehydrated. Definitely had tooth pain. But that was literally the best I can in memory, had ever felt.
The closest experience I can describe to it, is when you've got an abscessed tooth and they relieve the pressure and the pain is just gone and it's wonderful.
If there is no absence of pain... there is no relief. You can't just sleep in and feel better. You can't just drink water and feel better or get a new pillow etc. That's just your new default.
Now as someone who had previously considered myself abled who now has had an official disabled tag on me and all that... (I for the most part lucked out with a temporary disability. But know that plenty disabilities are chronic, permanent or get worse the longer you go.) I felt I was educated that I was an advocate but absolutely nothing prepared me for my body failing me so consistently. I listened to disabled folks and tried to amplify their voices.
I 100% was the person to go to bat for people who were in pain on my team. The problem is that for many people, pain is temporary. With rest, it goes away. With healing it gets better.
Most of those folks are sadly not educated. And conceptually it's a hard concept to work on despite all the empathy in the word.
The bigger the chain, the less likely that the person making the schedule can just hire another person and of course we all know companies have been understaffing on purpose for decades. This is definitely a Worker Rights issues. We've got a toxic working environment almost everywhere and the majority of the Working Class that's still working literally does not remember it being any better. You absolutely deserved better. And You definitely could use the support of an Advocate. I got in multiple fights on the behalf of co-workers all the time for these kind of issues. And when I was temporarily injured on the job, I had co-workers who fought for me too. The problem is people don't understand that we must stand together for this. For the abled folks, this is a temporary problem... just like their managers have been telling them understaffing is a temporary problem.
Look at your disabled co-workers folks and realize... one day that's going to be you. We literally all will at some point most likely be classed as disabled in some way. Sometimes permanently and sometimes not.
What you stand for TODAY is what might be left for you when it's your turn. Your managers/middle manager answer to a higher power then you and that is the greed of a very rich guy who literally sees you all as EXPENSES not VALUE.
DO NOT sacrifice YOURSELF on the Alter to Someone else's greed.
I understand the job market is tough and there are crappy work places that reveal themselves as crappy slowly. But YOU help create the CULTURE at WORK. ANYTIME I overheard management complain about such and such an employees issue with scheduling or with their ability. I ALWAYS spoke up.
I mentioned what a hard worker they were. How we'd been short on people for a long time. How we all deserved to be staffed enough that every one of us should be able to leave for 2 weeks and not have the store fall apart. I made people team lift. Reminded them that Corporate could not give them a new spine.
I trained most folks to speak up. And the more I did it, the more of use who would speak up.
And United We Bargain Divided We Beg.
The primary thing a manager is supposed to do is keep us compliant enough to work. Disgruntled rumblings are powerful when echoed.
Speak Up. Speak Up about TEMPORARY PAIN caused by WORK. TEMPORARY PAIN becomes PERMANENT PAIN if allowed to CONTINUE. PAIN is your body's FIRST attempt to get YOU to STOP doing something THAT IS HARMING YOU.
They decided that our anti-fatigue mats were a hazard. (It was actually the fact that our Stockroom was too small for the Stock they sent us and our Staff couldn't clear it with no space to work.) And tried to remove them. Every one of us had our shoes wear sooner and we all had greater back pain. I made sure to voice how weird it is that I hurt more now that we didn't have those mats. Sometimes I'd even sit down when we were unloading the truck to give my back a rest. I'd tell my other co-workers to do as well.
If a manager had the power to bring them back came in when I was sitting... I'd interrupt their telling me off for sitting that I literally hurt and what the cause was. That I'd probably be going to the doctor soon.
(Be sure to document your work pain by texting (not work but also work) other people about it. About how you hurt because blah blah at work. You might need it to prove that they should be paying to fix you if you ever need doctoring or disability pay.)
We got the mats back.
I would like to see more people talk about how jobs treat disabled employees.
I used to prep, wash dishes, and cook at mellow mushroom. I had chronic pain that wasn't NEARLY as bad as it is today, but it was still very debilitating. I told my employer "i cannot stand more than 4 to 6 hours. I CANNOT do shifts longer than this due to my illness." And even though i made my boundaries VERY clear, everyday i worked it was 8 hours at the least and 10 or 12 at the most. I would go up to my manager and say "look i really need to leave, my shift is over, my chronic pain is killing me." And he'd say "we really need to here, you HAVE to push through." And so i did, and after one, ONE month of that job my crps got incredibly worse to the point where i could no longer walk my dog around the block which was .5 miles. I quit, and that was FOUR years ago, and ever since that day I HAVE BEEN BEDRIDDEN AND HAVE TO USE A WHEELCHAIR. It is my biggest regret in life.
My best friend who has seen my whole journey has recently developed undiagnosed chronic pain, and she is in the EXACT same scenario i was 4 years ago. Busting her ass at a pizza place with extreme pain that hurts her so much she tells me "im in so much pain i don't even feel like a person." She doesn't feel LUCID. And her manager and coworkers are saying the same thing "if you don't help us you will let us down, we'll be in the shit."
That job thats hurting you isn't fucking worth it. I promise you no money is worth losing all your physical abilities and never getting them back. Your coworkers and boss do not give a shit about you, so don't you dare suffer for them. They will never understand your struggle and they will never try. They truly think being understaffed is worse than whatever pain you experience. They would rather you permanently damage yourself than inconvenience them. FUCK THEM. DON'T FUCKING DO IT!

MDNI. luke castellan x fem!reader (halloween) đ
you prepare lukeâs make-up for halloween night
warnings: just pure sexual tension đŤŚ
âËâšâĄ
"You´ll be taking care of me, little Red Hood?" Luke asked, sitting down on the wooden chair placed in the middle of the room at cabin eleven.
Your silk red skirt brushed the back of your thighs as you turned around, cleaning the last bit of face paint from a thin brush. "I will, Mr. Castellan" you joked.
The cabin is packed, like most of the time, but today was for a different reason. A bunch of Hermes´ boys were getting their make up done by you and your sisters, the reason? Halloween night. It was kind of a tradition for the Aphrodite cabin to help out with the costumes for the big party. And as much as a pain it is to help all the campers, you couldn´t deny that it was fun to pick out what your friends should be dressing out as for tonight and then doing their makeup to match the costume, and right now, it was time to help the worst breed; the boys.
They were men, therefore, they were basic, they´ve all decided to dress up as skeletons.
Soft pop music was playing inside the cabin as you felt a faint smell of cherries and hot chocolate. It was a comforting yet fun place to be at right now, like a beauty salon, but chill and without the white lights and burning chemical smells. More of your sisters were currently taking care of some other boys´ make up, painting their faces in black and white scary features that would barely make them look human at night, and now, it was Luke´s turn.
Luke´s face was already quite chiseled, like those marble Greek statues. You stepped back a second to take a good look at his face; sharp features, big nose, small eyes, plushy lips. Good, this would be fun.
"Alright" you state, "Just stay still and let me do all the work"
You leaned in slightly, starting to draw the outline of Luke´s face with a white make-up pencil. You and Luke stood silent, unlike the rest of the campers who kept on chatting and screaming at each other due to failed skeleton features. You planned on doing the simple; a white or pale base with black features like eyes, nose, cheekbones and mouth, maybe even some shadows, just like you did with Connor and Travis, who specifically asked for you to prepare them.
"I didn´t know you were so good at this" Luke finally spoke, anticipating to break the ice a little.
"What can I say?" you smiled, "I have many hidden talents"
You continued on, working in the lines, making the transition between the white and his perfectetly tanned skin. He was such a lovely canvas, his skin was clean, and smooth. You were actually a little scared to end up making him look bad. "Your jawline´s perfect" you muttered as you dragged the pencil there, more to yourself than to him.
Luke chuckled, "Is it now?"
You only dart your eyes away from your work to look into his eyes for a second, then back to your progress. Your teeth barely show as you smile a little, glossy red lips only shining brighter. "Okay, don´t get all cocky now" you tease.
Luke was used to flirting with everyone he met, and of course, people flirting back. But seeing you so focused on his face, the pen working on his face with you so close to him, gave him a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach.
You felt so close. Luke could smell a faint scent of cherries coming from you, and the hairspray of your hair. He could almost feel the warmth of your body too, standing so close to him, your body leaning down towards his face, making him look upwards to take a look at your face. You hissed then, taking a soft grip of your lower back, "Shit" you whisper. You were uncomfortable, being hunched over for so long.
"You okay?" Luke asked.
"Yeah" you reply, "Just-, my back´s killing me. I´ve been like this for an hour" you explain, you´ve been in the same position for the past other two boys you prepared.
Luke looked concerned for a second. So he shifted on his seat then, opening his thighs, basically welcoming you.
You stood speechless, pencil in hand as you chuckled softly, unable to react, or move.
"Come on" he urged you softly, his eyes locking on yours as he patted his thigh. You knew he wasn´t inviting you to sit there, âeven though he wouldn´t complain if you didâ, rather than in between them. "I don´t bite"
You scoff then, shaking your pencil in between your fingers. Your boots step into the tiny space then, back straightened as you only have to look down to Luke´s face, "Sure you don´t" you reply.
He lets out a short chuckle, tilting his face up to maintain eye contact. The air feels weirdly tense. Your fingers take a soft hold of his chin as you tilt his head a little more up, dragging the pencil over the lines once again; just in case. Luke´s eyes remain open, taking a look at your costume.
A deep scarlet skirt almost too short paired with tall, heeled backboots and a white button-up that hugged your figure just perfectly, and the black corset over it did just the rest of the magic, along with, of course, the red silk cape and hood.
"You look great" he muttered out, trying to get a reaction out of you.
You stop your movements for a second, looking at him dead in the eye again, but with a serious face, only to go back to your job as if he said nothing. "Great doesn´t cover it" you reply, tilting your head slightly.
He chuckled at that. You had no idea how right you were. You were gorgeous in that outfit and he could swear you looked like a damn goddess, a vision come to life just to taunt him.
"Cocky-" he muttered with a playful smile.
"Don´t move" you interrupt, leaning down a little bit more just for a second, the thin pencil brushing past the outline of his lips.
Your face was closer to his now, the scent of his cologne made you feel lightheaded.
Luke had that type of aura; the one that was always surrounded by a nice scent. The type that made you want to lean in closer, the type that was warm and comforting, yet he was no sweet pea, but a little more rough. Manly, with his legs spread open like that for you to stand in between, or for you to sit whenever you liked.
And with his face so close to you, you made and observation; Luke was handsome.
Very.
Just when you finished tracing the outlines of his eyes, lips, and cheekbones, you turned around to dip a pencil into some black face paint. Luke remained politely silent, lips closed and hands over his thighs as he followed your every movement. He was watching you intently as you worked. You looked so focused and careful, like it was an important and serious job, and for gods sake, it was Halloween makeup. He wondered if you were just doing it so perfectly to impress him, which was working, and Luke had to admit it was cute to see you so fixated on his face.
He could feel his heart pound in his chest. Sitting there, having you so close, all he could think of was touching you. How could he not when you were wearing such clothes that he loved?
Of course he wouldn´t. He was patient, and he was very much enjoying the game so far. But you were so close , it was so tempting. And he did have a very bad self-control.
You took your sweet time blending the black paint over Luke´s face with a small brush. He was being an obedient boy, sitting still, with no smart remarks coming from his mouth. How rare.
He enjoyed just watching you, watching your expression change slightly as you applied more and more paint on, watching the tip of your tongue dart out of your mouth every once in a while. It was so hard to keep his hands tucked into balled-up fists on his thighs.
But he wouldn´t stop staring at you, your face.
But you stepped back, pencil on your hand and a small smile growing on your glossy lips, but your brows furrow. You were slightly confused. Luke stared back, not a single expression on his face. His face was sharp looking, focused, stone. And the black paint was doing nothing but only making him look more-, attractive.
"Don´t look at me like that" you smile barely, more confused than actually chilled about what was happening.
"Like what?" He asked, the black paint only remarking the scary and sharp features on his now painted face.
You looked a bit flushed, your makeup and hair perfect. But he wanted to mess it up , ruin it a little. He kept staring at you, not bating an eye. "Like-," you cut yourself off, turning slightly to the side to grab a different pencil before dipping it in more black face paint, "Like you´re undressing me with your eyes or something" you say, too shy to say the words loudly, stepping in between the space of his thighs again, too afraid that somebody else would hear you.
Oh, but Luke heard you just right.
He hums quietly, a smirk pulling at his lips at your embarrassed expression.
You´re standing there, in between his thighs again, and he has to force himself to keep his hands in place. He looked up at you, eyes focused on you as you applied the paint on him. And you were so concetrated on the task in front of you, on his face, you didn´t realise how badly he wanted you.
He was hungry, and it took every bit of his self-control to keep from touching you.
"Maybe I am" he responds quietly.
His voice is low, and the tone he uses makes you freeze. His eyes burn into your skin, like he´s daring you to respond, to say something, anything, back. And for the first time, you have nothing to say, no witty response. You just look back into his eyes.
And there is something in them, something that makes your heart beat faster.
He stares back, not moving, not speaking, and the tension is almost palpable. You swallow hard, your throat suddenly dry, and you try to ignore the way your body is reacting. Luke has never had this effect on you before.
âPerv" is the only thing you manage to reply, not even a full sentence, not even speaking fully, just whispering into his face as you go back to your task, you only wanted this to be over now.
You can tell by the way his shoulders are tense that he´s struggling not to move. But he doesn´t, and his silence makes your stomach twist and turn. You know he´s enjoying this, and the fact that he knows what he´s doing to you is almost enough to make you snap.
Luke saw the way he made you blush and trip into your own thoughts, and that was enough for him.
You remained awfully silent for the rest of the time, with Luke´s eyes still piercing through your soul until you´re done. "There" you say as you finish touching up the last bits of shadows onto his lips, "All done" you say softly, walking back to the small table to start cleaning brushes again.
Luke stood up, turning around to face you. His face was completely covered in white and black, his skin was unrecognizable.
He walked over to you slowly, and the way he was moving was almost predatory, like he was stalking his prey. You felt a shiver run down your spine, and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The rest of your sisters and his brothers didn´t seem to notice a thing or even try to look to your direction, too busy invested into their own conversations.
You grab a towel, and you feel it-, oh you feel it. Like when someone´s standing behind you, the cold feeling that drips down your spine, ready to attack. Luke places his hand on each side of the table, his chest so close to be pressing to your back, trapping you against the table; and you couldn´t even see him properly.
"Just a question-," he says, clearing his throat briefly, "How effective is the make-up remover?"
Your breathing hitches for a moment. His voice was ridiculously low and whispery against you. You swallow, and the room suddenly feels too hot.
âUm-" you reply, trying to focus on cleaning the brushes instead of the man standing right behind you. "Very. It´ll clean right away, don´t worry" you reply poorly.
"Oh-. no, I wasn´t asking because of me", he replies, and he leans in a little closer, his lips brushing against the shell of your ear. You can feel the heat of his breath and it sends a jolt of electricity through your body, "I was asking for you. I don´t wanna leave any mark on your face after you´ve worked so hard on yourself"
Well, who would´ve though this guy was a poet? Hiding meanings behind words?
"That´s very considerate of you" you reply, trying not to sound too eager, but the way your voice cracks tells him all he needs to know.
Luke nods once, a smirk on his lips, and you can practically hear it in his voice. He leans down, his lips grazing the skin of your neck and his nose ghosting over the shell of your ear.
"I´ll make sure you find me", he whispers.
And with that, he steps back, his presence gone as fast as it arrived to the scene. Your hands tremble slightly as you finish putting the last brushes away, and your face burns hot. He had suddenly left you wanting, a feeling you didn´t even have when you first started working on him.
But you had to head back to your cabin now, and fuck-, were you mad you couldn´t get what you wanted now.
Luke surely knew he had started some type of game, your pretty little self caught in between his webs⌠but the night was only starting, and soon enough, you would be the one trapping him.

November 6, 2024 | Rafe Cameron
masterlist found here
pairing - Rafe x reader word count - 1,827 warnings - political talk, anti-T*ump rhetoric A/N - Who would've thought the shit show state of our world would inspire me to write again. I know for a lot of us everything feels really broken right now, and I know it may seem silly to some, but for me, writing feels like healing, even if it's just something like this. So here you all are. Rafe probably votes red, but here's a world where he doesn't. Also, if you're a T*umper, go ahead and unfollow me. I can't have any of that in my life. I'm so serious.
summary - The results of the 2024 election hit you pretty hard, and you end up taking your rage out on Rafe. Turns out, Rafe's hopes for the future looked a lot like yours.
You and Rafe didnât talk about politics. You knew better than to broach the topic with him, because you werenât naive. One glance at him and anyone could guess how he voted.
But that didnât mean you had to like it.
The two of you had been dating for about six months, and for the most part, it was smooth sailing. It was gossip fuel for most people on the island for a few weeks -you being a pogue and Rafe being ⌠who he was- but like most drama in Kildaire, it didnât stay at the forefront of peopleâs minds for long before another thing came and stole back everyoneâs attention.
And the thing on everyoneâs mind right now was the election. The election that had you donned in blue on your way to the polls, a huge smile on your face as you filled in the bubble that would make history. Hope filled you in a way you were sure it never had before.
Until the next day.
Waking up and opening social media to see the results had already come in was enough to break your spirit completely. How could this have happened? How could the country have failed so many people?
Then again, how had you been so naive to believe in the possibility of any other outcome?
You shut yourself off from the world for most of the day. You went to work and gave polite smiles and nods to your coworkers as needed, but you did your best to spend the majority of your time locked in your office, alone. You didnât dare to open social media, knowing every MAGA post from the bigots of the Figure 8 would bring tears to your eyes.
It wasnât until you were at home on your couch that you decided to brave Instagram. Before scrolling through your feed, you added a black screen with a simple blue heart to your story and wrote the words, When we fight, we win.
You thought it was harmless. A simple story that showed your feelings without being overly dramatic. The last thing you wanted to do was act irrational by doing something crazy like storming the capitol. Because that would just be insane.
Unfortunately, the people who followed you saw it as anything but harmless. They saw it as an opening to send you the most heinous, revolting messages you had ever read. Your notifications blew up within minutes, and some of them were so borderline terrifying that you locked your phone and threw it across the room, once again leaving you in a puddle of tears.
You heard your front door open, and you cursed to yourself. In all the chaos of the news, it escaped your mind that it was Wednesday, and Rafe always brought pizza to your apartment on Wednesdays. You had once mentioned in passing that you liked a pick-me-up halfway through a week, and Rafe took it upon himself to provide you with that. Normally, it was one of your favorite parts of the week. Today, Rafe was one of the last people you wanted to see.
âBabe!â he called out upon his entrance. âI got your favorite!â
You met him in the kitchen, and by one look at your face, Rafeâs own expression dropped. âWhatâs going on?â
You swallowed back the lump in your throat. âI think you should go.â
âWhat?â he said, dropping the pizza on the counter and walking over to you. With each step he took toward you, you took one step back. He stopped quickly, a frown painted on his face. âWhatâs wrong, baby?â
The words made something snap inside you, and your fists clenched at your sides. âWhatâs wrong?â you repeated. âWhatâs wrong? How about fucking everything, Rafe! Everythingâs wrong, and you not seeing that is part of the problem! You are part of the problem!â
Rafe was, in a word, flabbergasted. He ran through the past 24 hours, trying to think of something he had done wrong, but he was coming up short. âOkay, Iâm-â He let out an exasperated laugh. âIâm trying to understand, but youâve got to give me something more here. What did I do?â
âYou-â You let out a huff of a breath and ended up speaking through gritted teeth. âYou and your stupid fucking MAGA Kook friends voted for a convicted felon to run our country! You voted for a man who wants to throw away my rights. You voted for a man who has raped a multitude of women and brags about it!â
Rafeâs eyes were wide as he held his hands up and shook his head. âHang on-â
âNo, Rafe!â you shouted, pushing him back as he tried to get closer to you again. âFor the entire time weâve dated, Iâve danced around the talk of politics, because I knew better. I knew a rich ass white guy from the south would vote for another rich ass white guy to run our country, but I guess I naively thought it wouldnât matter. That the poor guys would get a win for fucking once this time. For once I thought the good guys would win and that a white man would have to face the consequences of his actions. But you-â You laughed bitterly. âYou of all people know that privileged ass white men never ever have to face the consequences of their actions.â
You were hitting him where it hurt, and you knew it, but you were hurt. You and every woman like you had been holding in years of pain and hurt, and for you and many others, today was the day it was all going to come out.
âBaby, if you just let me-â
âLet you?â you laughed incredulously. âYou and your fellow MAGA guys have clearly shown me I donât have to let you do anything anymore.â
âWhat does that mean?â he asked.
You fished your phone out of your pocket, unlocked it, and shoved it in his face to show him all of the nasty messages you were receiving. Things like, âYour body, my choice,â âwhomp whomp go make me a sandwich,â and âGuess what? Men win againâ had flooded your DMs, and while you didnât know it, Rafe was clocking every username and making a very specific list in his head.
âSo maybe you can understand why Iâm angry, Rafe,â you said, taking the phone back out of his hand and putting it in your pocket again. âI thought I could cancel out your vote, but I guess I forgot that meant you could cancel mine.â
âBa-â
âI want you to leave, Rafe.â
âBut I didnât-â
âFucking, go, Rafe!â you shouted. âLet me be angry and let me be alone!â
With a clenched jaw, Rafe gave a short nod. âOkay,â he whispered. âFine.â It looked like he wanted to say more, but he refrained, instead turning around and heading out the door, leaving you in a mess of tears.
The next day, you called off from work. Maybe it was dramatic, but you didnât care. You knew if one person even looked at you in a way you didnât like, youâd lose any composure you had, and you couldnât afford to lose your job for yelling at your boss.
You had the full intention to stay in bed all day, but the relentless knock at your door around 10AM proved that to be impossible. You felt some sense of relief, knowing it at least wouldnât be another political petitioner.
Instead, perhaps just as unfortunately, it was Rafe.
You let out a heavy sigh. âWhat do you want, Rafe?â
He held out his hand which had a coffee cup in it from your favorite shop. âI went to your work, but your boss said you were sick,â he said. âI bought you coffee.â You took it, but didnât say anything -just looked at him with raised eyebrows, as if to say, Anything else? âCan we please talk?â he said.
âI donât know what there is to say, Rafe,â you sighed. Still, you stepped aside and let him in, not wanting your neighbors to bear witness to whatever argument was about to ensue. âI know weâre different -Iâve always known that- but I donât think I can handle being this kind of different anymore.â You plopped yourself onto the sofa, expecting Rafe to sit next to you. Instead, he crouched in front of you so he was just slightly looking up at you.
âBaby, I didnât vote for him.â
Your lips parted slightly in shock, and you felt tears instantly pool in your eyes.
âWhat?â you whispered.
âYeah, of course I didnât vote for him,â he said. He reached up to turn around the hat he was wearing backwards to reveal a Harris-Walz cap, and you let out a noise that was a mix of a gasp and a little laugh. âI know Iâve fucked up before baby,â he said. âAnd in other elections, yeah, I usually vote red. But this-â He shook his head and squeezed your knees. âThis is different. And I know that. And Iâd be an absolute moron to think that tax cuts for me are more important than basic rights for you.â
You moved to kneel on the floor next to him and held his face in your hands before leaning forward to place a soft kiss to his lips. When you pulled back, you kept your forehead against his. âI was so mean to you yesterday,â you whispered. âI didnât-â
âIt wasnât anything I didnât deserve,â he said. âI know that I am living in a world that was pretty much tailor made for me. And I know I should be in fucking prison for all the shit Iâve done, and so should he. And I know that none of what Iâm saying right now changes the bullshit Iâve done, but I figured I should at least use all this fucking privilege I have and try to help people who donât have it. Because you-â He paused to press a kiss to your lips. â-have taught me so much about being a good person. And Iâm not going to vote against that.â
âI wasnât a good person yesterday,â you mumbled.
âYou were reacting to an unfortunately historic event,â he said. âYou had every right to lose it. And you can keep losing it, and I will be by your side for every minute of it, okay?â
You nodded and gave him a soft smile. âOkay.â
He smiled back and nodded. âOkay.â
You and Rafe decided to spend the rest of the day together, sometimes talking, sometimes just sitting in the quiet. When you suggested putting on a movie, Rafe agreed. He let you choose, no complaints, and watched as you searched for the Barbie movie. You cried at all the usual parts, sometimes a bit harder than normal, but Rafe understood.
It is literally impossible to be a woman.

no nut november | masterlist | guestlist
The sun had now began to rise, casting a golden color across the sky as I sat nervously in the passenger seat of Chrisâs car, my hand clutching the hospital bag like it was a lifeline. Today was the day we had waited for, the day our lives would change forever. After months of preparing ourselves, endless conversations and debates about baby names and painting the nursery a soft shade of orange we were about to meet our little one. Chris was driving with a focused gaze I hadnât seen before, his knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel.
Every so often he would spare glances at me, his blue eyes shining with excitement. âAre you ready for this?â he asked, his voice being a mix of joy and disbelief at whats going to happen today. I turned to him, my heart racing as I speak. âI think so. Iâve never been more ready for anything in my life,â I replied, feeling butterflies fluttering in my stomach. The thought of actually becoming a parent was almost hard to believe . When we finally arrived at the hospital, the adrenaline kicked in.
We rushed through the automatic doors, our hearts pounding all together. The bright lights and the familiar smell of sanitary welcomed us as we checked in and were hushed towards the maternity section. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation but not just ours but from families around us, each with their own maternity story. After what felt like forever, it was time for me to be called in. Chris held my hand tightly as we walked together into the delivery room. My heart raced as I settled onto the hospital bed and feeling the cool sheets under me.
Nurses huddled around while preparing equipment for the delivery while Chris stood by my side, whispering soft words of motivation. Hours passed with the soft rhythm of contractions guiding us through the whole experience. Chris was never far from me and his presence felt like a warm blanket of comfort. He kept running his hands through my hair, his calming voice reminding me that we were in this together. âYouâre doing amazing,â he softly whispered, his faith in me growing by the second. Finally, after what felt like an ongoing battle of will and strength, the moment arrived.
I could feel the overwhelming urge to push, and with each contraction, I used every ounce of strength I had left. In those intense moments, Chrisâs eyes became my own. âYouâve got this, ma,â he reassured me, and I leaned into that support. With one final push and an intense surge of energy I didnât know I had, we heard the most beautiful sound-our babyâs first ever cry. It was like music to our ears.
Suddenly, everything else faded away around us, the pain, the noise, the world outside. In that instant, all that mattered was the life that had just entered into our world. The doctor gently handed our baby to me, and my heart twisted with joy. I looked down and there they were, our little bundle of happiness in soft white blankets. Chrisâs breath caught in his throat as he came closer with his eyes wide, filled with emotion all kinds of emotions. âCan I hold them?â he asked, his voice trembling with excitement. âOf course,â I smiled, shifting so he could take our baby.
Chris cradled our little one against his chest, and I watched as he radiated with pure love. He kissed their tiny forehead, an expression of shock shadowing his face. âYou did it. You brought us this miracle,â he whispered, his voice thick with emotion coming straight from the heart. Chris looked down at our baby as if they were the most precious treasure in the world. âI want to do skin-to-skin,â he said and I could see the excitement radiating from him. The nurses smiled approvingly and helped him gently remove his shirt, placing our baby against his bare chest.
The warmth of the moment hugged us as Chrisâs skin touched our childâs delicate body. He looked at me, letting the little one into his now vulnerable heart. âCan you believe this?â he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. Our little one squirmed, their little hand reaching for where Chrisâs heartbeat lies. I could see a connection forming, a bond that would last a lifetime. Tears filled my eyes as I watched the two of the most important people in my life together.
It was a moment of pure beauty, one I will cherish forever. Chris looked at me and grinned, as his face radiated with joy. âWeâre parents,â he said, still star struck, âand this is just the beginning.â In that room surrounded by the warmth of new beginnings, we held each other close, both over the moon and overwhelmed by all of it. Our family was here, and we were ready for the wonderful adventure ahead.

So... as a Psychologist, I'd like to weigh in on these...
"Love Languages".... hmm... yeah... I only ever hear this said in terms of pop psychology (which is like the difference between Astrology and Astronomy to me), so skipping. If you care about relationship advice, I recommend looking up work from The Gottman Institute, decades of research into relationships out of those people, and while the initially studies were focused on male-female married couples, more modern works from them have been more generalized. They provide "free" information about their research on their website and other places.
MBTI... ah yes... the "four letter words" of things... amusing, but otherwise pointless. My partner (non-psychologist) has taken enough of those over the years for employment he can get any result he wants from it.
BMI... This falls outside my area of expertise, but as someone whose fat, and having worked extensively with one of the founders of "Health At Every Size"... BMI is janky as all heck. It's coming close to being MBTI levels of scam at this point.
Brain development ends at 25... I agree, it doesn't. Your brain is constantly developing and changing. It's called "learning". However, there are certain core aspects of your brain that develop to a specific point and then stop. For instance, your occipital lobes basically "stops development" in early childhood (it's major structures stop changing, but linkages between neurons continue and shift throughout your life). That said, most of the major structures do "stop developing" around 25-30 years of age, but in sort of the same way your skeletal structure stops developing around then... in that you're a living creature so you are ALWAYS changing.
Okay... and now for the bit I really wanted to weigh in on... the IQ stuff. A few things of note. IQ was initially developed to determine what sort of educational class a child should be placed into, as the French public school system wanted to properly place young children in classes for their age. As it was French initially, this is why 100 is an important number, as 100 was to be considered "the correct amount of academic intelligence for someone of this case", and they didn't look "above" that, as it wasn't considered important, and so it was seen as "percentage of correct grade level". Fast forward through a rascist at Stanford (skipping as the previous poster actually explained the reasons for it being shit pretty well) and we move on to more modern IQ testing. Today's IQ testing is primarily used in two main places, education placement (wooo! Full circle!), and to assist with diagnosing some of the more difficult to diagnose conditions. I cannot discuss much of what is used to determine an IQ score (each of the five main tests I am trained in use different aspects and testing methodology so no two tests are equivalent) as knowledge of what is in the test and how they work affects the test results (I'm not allowed to be IQ tested anymore, for instance, as I know how they generate the outcomes... sort of like how my partner can get any MBTI, I can mess with IQ score results). However, I can tell you that the primary test I use, tests mathematical skills, memory, problem solving, and spatial awareness. There are ways to adjust the test if someone has physical disabilities that would impair their ability to do the tests as well. That said, I wouldn't even consider doing IQ testing on someone unless it was part of a more wide-spread diagnostic screening. I'd be using the test to determine things like potential learning disorders, ADHD, ASD, and more. However, for most I wouldn't even do IQ testing for those, it'd only if it was needed for some reason, or the results from other tests suggested I should see what the outcomes are for certain specific portions of the IQ testing methodology.
So... IQ testing... not useful for figuring out "how intelligent" someone is, but very useful for determining "this person's ability to do <x> combined with all these other things the person does shows they most likely have disorder <y>".
I can't keep having the same conversations about love languages, mbti, iq, bmi, "brain fully formed at 25" and shit over and over again...

Finleyâs first birthday
word count: 4.2k
the very last chapter in Finleyâs last year! I do have other bits written for the williamsonâs for when heâs older with siblings but Iâm not sure if Iâll post them <33
find the masterlist here!
March 29th 2025 | 1 year old.
You stirred as the sun peeked through the curtains and shined on your face, instinctively turning toward Leah beside you. The peaceful rise and fall of her chest was a sight you had always cherished, but today, on her 28th birthday, it felt even more special.
March 29th had always been a favourite day for you because it was a day dedicated to the woman you loved the most. It was a whole day where you got to celebrate her and she couldnât say a word.
Last year the day got even more special. You gave birth to your baby boy and now you get to celebrate your two favourite people in one day.
A smile tugged at your lips as you lay there for a moment, simply watching her, memorising the way her blonde hair fanned out across the pillow, the gentle curve of her lips, and the way she looked so peaceful as she slept.
It was a rare luxury to have these quiet moments in the morning before Finley woke up, and you werenât about to waste it. You leaned in close, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, your lips lingering there for a second before moving to her temple, then to the bridge of her nose. Leah stirred slightly, her brow furrowing in that adorable way she did when she was waking up.
You continued your gentle assault of kisses, letting your lips brush over her closed eyelids, her cheeks, the corner of her mouth and finally her lips. Leahâs eyes fluttered open, and a sleepy smile graced her face as she blinked up at you.
âGood morning, birthday girl,â you whispered as you sat up in bed, âHappy 28th.â
âMmm, morning,â Leah murmured, her voice laced with sleep. She reached up, wrapping her arms around your waist and pulling you closer, her eyes still heavy with sleep. âThatâs a nice way to wake up.â
You chuckled softly as she rolled onto her back. You straddled her hips. âI thought you deserved a special wake-up today. Itâs not every day my beautiful wife turns 28.â
Leahâs smile widened, her hands rubbing at your hips. âThank you, love. And itâs not every day our little boy turns one either.â
The year had flown by, filled with so many firsts, and you couldnât help but feel a little emotional as you thought about how much had changed since Finley had come into your lives.
âPlease donât remind me,â you sighed, tipping your head back dramatically, âI canât believe our baby boy is one. Where has it gone?â
Leah nodded, âI know, heâs gotten so big. Heâs a proper little human now!â Leahâs fingers gently traced patterns on your hips as she looked up at you, her expression softening. âHow did I get so lucky?â
You leaned down to kiss her once more, this time it was a slow, lingering kiss, one that spoke of all the love and gratitude you felt for her. When you finally pulled back, you smiled down at her, your fingers brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face.
âIâm the lucky one,â you whispered. âA perfect wife and a perfect baby boy.â
You laid down on Leahâs chest, resting your head on her shoulder as she rubbed patterns on your back underneath your (her) shirt.
The peace didnât last long. Just as you were beginning to lose yourself in Leahâs touch, you heard soft, familiar babbles coming from the baby monitor on the nightstand. Finleyâs little babbles, sleepy and full of curiosity, drifted through the speaker, signalling that your little boy was awake and ready to start his day.
Leah chuckled, âLooks like the birthday boy is up.â
âIâll go get him,â you offered, but Leah shook her head, already swinging her legs over the side of the bed as you rolled off of her.
âNo, letâs get him together,â she said with a smile. âI want to see his little face.â
You smiled and nodded as Leah slipped on a hoodie. You followed her, pulling one of Leahâs old hoodies over your head as the two of you made your way to Finleyâs nursery.
As you reached the nursery door, Leah paused, turning back to you with a soft smile before quietly pushing it open. Inside, Finley was standing in his crib, gripping the bars with his tiny hands, his wide blue eyes blinking up at you both. His blonde curls were slightly crazy from sleep, and his cheeks were rosy with the warmth of the room.
The moment he saw the two of you, his face broke into a wide, toothy grin, and he let out an excited squeal, bouncing on his little legs. Leah couldnât help but laugh, the sound filling the small room as she leaned over to scoop him up into her arms.
"Happy birthday, Bubba," she cooed, pressing a kiss to his forehead as she held him close. You stood beside her, reaching out to run your fingers gently through his curls.
âLook at you,â you whispered, your voice thick with emotion. âOne-year-old today. How did we get here so fast?â you cooed as you placed a kiss on his cheek.
Finley giggled in response, his tiny hands reaching out to grab and pat Leahâs cheeks before turning his attention to you, his little fingers stretching towards your nose before grabbing it. You leaned in, pressing another kiss to his chubby cheek before taking him from Leahâs arms and cradling him against your chest.
Leah stood beside you, her arm wrapping around your waist as the three of you swayed gently, a little family moment that felt perfect in its simplicity. You breathed in the familiar scent of your baby, feeling his warmth against you as Leah pressed a kiss to your temple.
âWhat do you think, birthday boy?â Leah asked softly. âReady for some cake later?â
Finley babbled in response, clearly unaware of the significance of the day but happy to be wrapped in the love of his two moms like usual. His little hands patted your chest, and you couldnât help but laugh softly, the sound catching in your throat as emotion welled up inside you.
âI canât wait to celebrate him and you,â you smiled.
âItâs going to be fun,â Leah smiled, âShall we head back to our bed and get our presents, Bubba?â Leah cooed, tickling Finleyâs stomach.
Finley let out a delighted squeal at Leahâs tickling, his tiny legs kicking excitedly as you both laughed at his joy. His laughter was infectious.
"Let's go, birthday boy," you said, bouncing him gently in your arms as the three of you made your way back to your bedroom.
As you stepped back into the bedroom, you placed Finley down in the middle of the bed, watching as he wobbled slightly on his legs before plopping down on his bum with a giggle. His wide blue eyes darted around the room with curiosity, his hands grabbing at the soft duvet as he babbled happily.
Leah climbed onto the bed beside him, pulling out two bags full of gifts for Finley. "Look what weâve got for you, Bubba," she said in a sing-song voice, holding a small gift just out of his reach, playfully teasing him. His eyes locked onto the colourful package, his tiny hands immediately reaching for it with excitement.
You sat down beside them, watching as Leah handed the present over to him. His chubby fingers fumbled with the wrapping paper, tearing at it slowly, completely absorbed in the process. You and Leah exchanged amused glances, laughing softly as you watched him try to figure it out.
âNeed some help, buddy?â Leah asked, leaning in to give him a hand. Together, you helped him pull the paper away, revealing a small, plush toy in the shape of a baby elephant. Finley's face lit up, and he immediately grabbed the toy, squealing.
"Looks like itâs a hit," you grinned, watching him chew the elephantâs ear.
Leah reached over to brush her fingers through his messy curls. "I think he likes it," she said softly, her voice full of affection.
You leaned against Leahâs shoulder, watching your son play with his new toy. Leah quickly pulled away as he tried to crawl toward the edge of the bed. She quickly scooped him up before he could make it too far.
âNot so fast, buddy!â Leah smiled, setting him back down on the bed, âYouâve still got a few more presents.â
Finley sat back down on the bed, his little legs bouncing with excitement as Leah handed him another brightly wrapped gift. His tiny hands eagerly grabbed at the paper, babbling to himself as he tore at the edges with a bit more help from Leah. You watched as she ripped the wrapping away to reveal a wooden stacking toy, the colourful rings immediately catching his attention.
âOh, look at that, Finley,â you said, your voice filled with excitement to match his, âYou can stack all the rings!â
Leah laughed softly, as you both watched Finley pick up one of the rings and attempt to fit it onto the post. His concentration was fierce, his brow furrowed in the same adorable way Leahâs did when she was focused. It made you smile even more, seeing these little traits of hers in him.
âI think we might have a little genius on our hands,â Leah teased, pressing a kiss to your temple.
âHe gets that from me, obviously,â you joked, nudging her playfully as you rolled your eyes.
Finley managed to get one of the rings on the post, letting out a delighted squeal that made both you and Leah cheer softly for him. His grin was infectious, his wide eyes looking back and forth between the two of you as if he knew he had accomplished something big.
You handed him the next ring, and he clumsily placed it on the post, Leah clapped for him, her face lighting up with pride. âGood job, Finley! Youâre doing so great.â
After opening the rest of Finleyâs presents you got up off the bed and grabbed Leahâs out of the bottom of your wardrobe. You gasped as Finleyâs face lit up, âShall we give Mumma her presents, bubs?â
You placed the presents on the bed beside Leah, who had now settled comfortably with Finley on her lap. âAre you ready for your presents, love?â you asked Leah.
âYeah, I am!â Leah replied, her voice filled with enthusiasm.
You handed Leah the bag of gifts, she picked out a box and carefully tore away the wrapping paper with Finleyâs tiny hands gripping at the edges, helping to reveal the gift inside. It was a delicate silver necklace with a small heart-shaped locketâa piece you knew Leah had admired for a while.
âOh, this is beautiful,â Leah breathed, her eyes misting with tears as she opened the locket to reveal tiny photos of Finley and you inside. She looked up at you, her voice catching. âThank you so much. Itâs perfect.â
You smiled, reaching out to wipe away a tear from her cheek. âIâm glad you love it. You deserve something special.â
Leah gave you a warm smile, her heart full as she leaned in to give you a heartfelt kiss. Finley, sensing the affection, wiggled excitedly in Leahâs lap, reaching out to touch the necklace with curious fingers.
âLetâs see what else is in the bag,â Leah said, gently pulling out another gift.
The next gift was a beautiful photo book filled with pictures of the past year. Each page was a snapshot of your familyâs milestones and everyday moments, capturing the joy and love that had filled the past year.
Leahâs eyes widened as she flipped through the pages, a smile spreading across her face. âOh my god, this is amazing,â she said softly. âI canât believe you put this together.â
âI wanted to make sure we had a special keepsake of all our memories,â you explained, leaning closer.
Leah looked at you with deep affection, her voice barely above a whisper. âThank you. This means more to me than you know.â
Finley, now reaching for the book, babbled happily, clearly intrigued by the colourful photos. Leah let him explore, his little fingers touching the pages as he giggled.
You spent a little while longer in bed, opening Leahâs presents, before making your way into the kitchen. You set Finley down in his highchair and gave him one of his tether toys to keep him entertained.
Leahâs hand slipped under your shirt as you cut up some fruit for Finley, she placed soft kisses on your shoulder before following you around the kitchen as you made some pancakes.
The smell of pancakes soon filled the kitchen. As you flipped the pancakes, Leah busied herself setting the table and preparing a few toppingsâfresh fruit, maple syrup, and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. Finley watched intently from his highchair, his curious eyes tracking every movement you made.
Leah glanced over at you, her expression one of contentment. âThese look amazing,â she said, placing a small bowl of berries in front of Finley.
Once the pancakes were ready, you served a stack onto each plate, setting them down at the table. Leah moved Finley and his highchair over to the table while you cut his pancakes into small, manageable pieces. He eagerly grabbed at the food, his tiny fingers smeared with syrup and fruit.
As the morning continued, the three of you enjoyed your breakfast together, the conversation flowing easily between bites of food and laughter. Finleyâs giggles and cheerful squeals added to the mix.
After breakfast and a bit of playtime, it was time for Finley's first nap of the day. You and Leah carefully cleaned up, making sure the kitchen was tidy before heading to the nursery. His little eyes were already drooping as you balanced him on your hip.
You sat down in the rocking chair, Leah crouched beside you as she read him a book, and before you knew it he was fast asleep in your arms.
You gently placed him into his crib, Leah adjusting his blanket as you turned his sound machine on. Finleyâs soft breaths soon filled the room, you and Leah quietly stood by, watching him drift off to sleep.
With Finley asleep and the morning behind you, you and Leah had some time to yourselves. You worked together to set up the final decorations and get the cake ready for Finley and Leahâs party. Once everything was prepared and ready you and Leah started to get dressed for the day.
It wasnât long before you were both ready for the day and Leahâs family soon arrived. You opened the door to see Amanda with her arms already outstretched, ready to greet you both. David, Leahâs dad, followed closely behind with a warm smile, and Jacob was carrying all the presents.
âHappy birthday, sweetheart!â Amanda beamed, immediately pulling Leah into a hug. âHow are you both?â
âThanks, Mum,â Leah smiled as she took her bag of presents from her Mum. âJust canât believe heâs one already.â
âWeâre both emotional but weâre good,â you smiled. âCome in! Weâve got everything set up.â
âWhereâs Finley?â Jacob asked, glancing around as he set the presents down.
âOh well hello to you too Jacob, thank you, Jacob,â Leah sarcastically said.
You laughed at the sibling banter, shaking your head, âHeâs napping, he should be awake soon though.â
Just as you finished your sentence tiny babbles came through the baby monitor, âThatâs him awake, Iâll go get him.â You told Leah.
âGood timing,â Amanda grinned, âThe birthday boy knows heâs going to get spoilt like usual!â
You slipped away to grab Finley from his crib, leaving Leah to chat with her parents. Moments later, you reappeared, holding a sleepy but smiling Finley, his blonde curls slightly flattened from his nap. The second he spotted Amanda and David, his face lit up in recognition, his little arms waving excitedly.
âOh, thereâs our birthday boy!â Amanda cooed, stepping forward to take him into her arms. Finley giggled, his tiny hands grabbing at her necklace. âYouâve gotten so big, havenât you?â
David leaned over to give Finleyâs hand a soft squeeze. âLook at this guy, already a year old. Time flies,â he said.
Amanda set Finley down on the floor who immediately crawled over to the stack of presents and sat on the floor beside Jacob.
Jacob chuckled as Finley grabbed at the brightly wrapped gifts, his chubby hands tugging at the paper with enthusiasm. "Looks like someone knows what's coming," Jacob said, giving Leah a wink.
Leah sat beside Jacob on the floor who was helping Finley tear into the paper as he sat on his lap. He squealed when he finally unwrapped the giftâa soft, plush lion with a crinkly mane and ears. Finley immediately grabbed it, squeezing it in his tiny hands as it made a satisfying crinkle sound, another squeal leaving his body.
âHe loves it!â you laughed, watching the way Finley stared at his new toy.
With Finley happily occupied with his new toy, the rest of the presents were quickly unwrapped by Leah and Jacob. There were clothes, books, and toys, each one met with a tiny bit of interest before Finley went back to his lion. Once Finley had opened his present, Leah opened her before the chaos of the party began.
Just as you were clearing up the wrapping paper with Amanda, the doorbell rang. âIâll get it!â Leah shouted from the hallway before opening the door.
A few moments later, Leah walked into the living room with Beth, Viv, Kim and Vic following close behind her. Each of them held a tiny bag that contained their gift.
âHappy birthday, Le.â Beth smiled as she hugged Leah, âI canât believe Finnâs already one!â
Leah grinned as she hugged Beth back. "I know, right? It feels like just yesterday he was a newborn."
Beth, Viv, Kim, and Vic greeted you and Finley, who was now happily playing on the floor with his new lion. Each of them knelt down, taking turns cooing over the birthday boy. Finleyâs eyes lit up with excitement, his tiny fingers tugging at the clothes and toys they brought.
âHappy birthday to the little man,â Kim said with a warm smile, handing over her gift. âAnd happy birthday to you too, Leah.â
Leah laughed as she accepted the gift bags. âThank you! Iâm feeling the love today.â
As the party began to pick up, Leahâs teammates mingled with her family, all of them taking turns playing with Finley and catching up with you both. The garden was decorated with bunting, balloons, and a special banner that read, âHappy 1st Birthday, Finley!â The sun was shining, and it felt like the perfect spring day.
Leahâs dad and Jacob were busy setting up the barbecue while Amanda helped you arrange the food on a long picnic table. As you placed down platters of snacks, Leah came up behind you, wrapping her arms around your waist and pressing a kiss to the back of your neck.
âEverything looks amazing,â she whispered.
You turned to face her, a soft smile on your lips. âOnly the best for my two favourite people.
Leah kissed you gently before Beth came over, holding Finley, who was now wearing a tiny party hat. "Look at this little guy!" Beth laughed, holding him up for Leah to see.
Leah grinned and reached out to take Finley, balancing him on her hip. "Heâs ready for his party, arenât you, Bubba?"
Finley babbled in response, grabbing at Leahâs hat, and making everyone laugh.
The afternoon was filled with laughter, food, and playful banter. Leah's teammates took turns kicking a ball around the garden, playfully showing off for Finley, who watched them with wide eyes. Leahâs family chatted with everyone, creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy that made the day feel extra special.
As the sun began to lower in the sky, it was time for the cake. You brought out a small cake just for Finleyâa simple vanilla sponge with a tiny candle. The main cake for Leah and the guests was a larger, elaborate one, decorated in her favourite colours with a hint of Arsenalâs red and white.
Leah sat down with Finley in her lap as everyone gathered around, singing âHappy Birthdayâ to the two of them. Finleyâs wide eyes locked onto the flickering candle as everyone finished singing, and with Leahâs help, he blew it out, earning a round of applause.
âHappy birthday, my loves,â you said softly, smiling at the sight of Leah and Finley together.
Leah kissed Finleyâs cheek, then looked up at you with a loving smile. âI couldnât ask for a better birthday.â
Finley giggled as Leah helped him stick his fingers into his cake, his chubby hands quickly covered in frosting as everyone laughed and cheered him on. The day was filled with love, and as the party continued into the evening, you couldnât help but feel grateful for the beautiful family and life you had built together.
Leah grinned, shaking her head in disbelief as she hugged Beth back. âI know, itâs crazy! Feels like just yesterday he was born and you were visiting us in the hospital while Y/N was in labour.â
Kim stepped forward next, giving Leah a gentle hug and handing her a small gift bag. âHappy birthday! Canât wait to spoil the little man today too.â
âThanks, Kimmy,â Leah smiled, taking the gift and placing it on the side table with the others.
Viv and Vic joined in the hugs, each of them cooing over Finley, who was still thoroughly engrossed in his new lion toy. Viv leaned down, gently ruffling his blonde curls, âHappy birthday, little man. Look at you, so big now!â
âHeâs definitely growing up fast,â you chimed in, walking over to join them. âWe barely blinked, and here we are, celebrating his first birthday.â
Leahâs other teammatesâSteph, Lia, Lotte, Kyra, Katie, and Caitlinâarrived shortly after, all bringing smiles, laughter, and gifts with them. Each of them greeted Leah with a hug and fussed over Finley. It wasnât long before the living room was buzzing with energy, Leahâs cousins Holly and Jordan arrived with Henry and Leahâs grandma, Berny.
Leah wrapped her arms around you from behind as you set up the sandwiches with Amanda, âThis is perfect, Iâm so proud of you for setting this all up.â
You turned your head to place a kiss on her cheek, âAnything for my favourite people.â
As the party moved into the garden, where the sun was shining brightly, the decorations you and Leah had set up earlier shimmered in the light. A large banner that read âHappy Birthday, Leah and Finley!" hung proudly across the patio, with balloons, and a beautifully decorated cake sitting on the table.
âSorry Iâm late, blame London traffic.â Keira said as she entered the garden, âBut I come bearing gifts!â
Leah laughed, âYouâre always late, but Iâll forgive you since you brought presents.â
Keira shook her head as she rolled her eyes playfully, walking over to set the gifts down on the table. âHappy birthday to the best boy,â she cooed, tickling Finleyâs stomach who was now resting on Amandaâs hip. âAnd happy birthday to my best mate too, I guess.â
With everyone settled in the garden, drinks were poured, snacks were passed around, and the laughter flowed freely. As the day rolled on, the time for cake finally arrived.
âAlright time for the cake, gather round!â Leah announced to everyone as you set Finley down in his highchair.
Once everyone was gathered around Finley and Leah, Amanda came out carrying a cake with the candles lit. Finleyâs eyes widened at the sight of the flickering candle, his hands reaching out toward it which Leah quickly pulled back.
Happy Birthday rang out around the garden, everyone smiling as Finley looked around in confusion. He looked at you and Leah with a confused look before looking back at the cake.
âBlow the candles out, Finn!â You encouraged him as everyone finished singing.
Leah gently blew the candles out, smiling as she clapped her hands. âHappy birthday, Bubba,â Leah whispered, pressing a kiss to his cheek as the room erupted into applause. âNo one else Iâd rather share the day withâ
You cut Finley a small piece of cake, watching as his tiny fingers grabbed at it hesitantly before shoving it into his mouth. The room was filled with laughter as he smeared frosting across his face, clearly enjoying his first taste of birthday cake.
As the evening drew to a close, the guests slowly started to leave, offering their goodbyes and final birthday wishes to Leah and Finley. The house became quiet once more, and you and Leah, both tired but happy, tucked Finley into bed. You stood by the crib, watching as his little chest rose and fell with each peaceful breath, your heart full.
Back in the bedroom, Leah pulled you into a hug, holding you close. "Thank you for today," she whispered. "It was perfect."
You smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. "It's all for you, birthday girl. I love you."
"I love you more," Leah murmured against your lips, her hands resting on your hips. âMore than youâll ever know, pretty girl.â

Going to port and will return when i have chilled for a bit on stable ground. The audiobook project now feels too much like a stunt to me, which I know is unfair to say and N owes us nothing. It just feels like a game if she is truly with JD knowing that she has kept the ship engaged for 6 months. Grateful for everyone who can keep a clear head on days like today without spiraling!
She's kept the ship engaged for months because she's not dating Jake.
Nicola isn't messing with people or playing games. She's not using this as a leg up in her career and she's certainly not performing stunts to keep people guessing.
Now that's not to say that she hasn't played in to certain things but if that's the case, it's only been for the benefit of keeping an actual relationship private, which is what she deserves as a fellow human.
No one is paying attention to what she says or does. They're too busy waiting for the next Jake or Antonia bomb to drop because most people have become obsessed with them.
And it's hurt both Nic and Luke in the process.

The morning of the world
England, 1649: the king has been executed, the monarchy has ended at last, but it's been replaced with a dictatorship. Yet suddenly we're back in the morning of the world.
It's a mindset. In the evening of the world, life will always go on as it's gone on before. If it changes, it can only get worse. In the morning of the world, everything seems possible.
Into this churn of chaos, worry, and excitement steps a 40-year-old man named Gerard Winstanley. He has a story and a plan.
You always need both, you see. If you don't have a plan, nobody can hope. And if you don't have a story, nobody will believe the plan: they've been given too many lies before to believe the truth.
Winstanley's plan was, literally, radical. He was going to build a community which planted crops on common land. They would live together, work together, eat together.
Today, we might call it anarchism or communism. But then, people called them the Diggers.
You see, common land was a contentious topic. For centuries, ordinary people had had the right to grow food to eat.
But in the last fifty years, the lords of manors had obtained legal permission to take these rights away: to "enclose" common land.
(Modern privatisation is similar.)
So the ordinary people lost their right to plant crops on the land they and their forebears had used for centuries. You might have heard the rhyme:
The law condemns the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
But lets the larger villain loose
Who steals the common off the goose
This was the first part of Winstanley's story.
The second part looked back a few centuries, to when the Norman aristocrats took over England by forceâ as they soon did to Wales and Ireland, too.
Winstanley said that Cromwell had had a chance to undo the damage the Normans had done to England. But instead, he had set up his own dictatorship. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
But the third part went back to the beginning: the literal morning of the world.
You know the story of Adam and Eve, and how taking the apple was the original sin. But what *was* the sin? Aquinas thought it was pride. Many people have suggested it was lust.
But Winstanley said the tree was for everyone and they wanted it for themselves; so their sin was covetousnessâ greed, if you like.
He punned that Adam was "a dam": he wanted to take things and hold them himself.
And the lords and the landlords were still living in Adam's sin.
That was the story: what was the plan? Occupy the land they'd lost once more, and build the new world piece by piece.
Communities of the Diggers sprang up around the country, most famously in St George's Hill in Surrey. They lived together, ate together, worked together.
They were peaceful, but the landlords saw their very existence as a threat. So they had them arrested, and destroyed their fields and their houses.
I mention all this because a Marxist-Leninist asked me "What is the anarchists' plan to change the world?"
When I said, "hope", he didn't take it for a serious answer. But it was.
What do you need, to live in the morning of the world? What story, and what plan?

All of this is very fair, and good to read about. Though I do think Op has a point about the black and white of how people treat Epic's Odysseus verses anyone who gets in his way, and how hypocritical the treatment of Calypso specifically is if you look at how like. Any man in greek myths is treated. I believe Odysseus took women as slaves on his ship in The Illiad. Sometimes its someone else but he is one of the people who said they must kill the son of Hector, he dropped this baby off of a wall. Sure you can argue "it was willed by Zues," but I dont think that makes it any better morally. When he gets home he commands that an unfaithful servant be strung up and tortured untill death, as well as killing every female servant who was unfaithful to him. We dont neccesarily know to what degree, or even if engagement with the suitors was consensual. But all of this is to say that there really is no true good or evil character. I say all of these things as someone who really enjoys the Odyssey and Odysseus. We can recognize that acting in the ways he did would not be okay or acceptable in our society today, but we still tell his story and praise him for his loyalty and endurance.
Epic is a work of fiction inspired by The Odyssey. It is not meant to follow it exactly, nor portray an accurate example of how the story plays out in the book, and we must keep this in mind. In greek myth there are many versions of each story, many differing translations and interpretations, and long before they were written down they were passed on through oral tradition. I approach this with the mind that with each new retelling we learn about the time it was written, and what biases a translator or story teller may have let leak into it. Not that they are neccesarily false, just different, and products of different people.
A persons first introduction to Calypso will certainly influence their opinions on her as she is present in many different pieces of media. And what i think is most important is that we remember she is fictional. She's a goddess, a nymph, someone that exists only in the stories we tell. And the same with Odysseus. Its very likely writers took inspirations from real heroes and their experiences, but the Odysseus we know today is not a real person. Neither him nor Calypso are personally affected by the things we say about them. You can't conflate theorizing about the different possibilities of how an ancient story went with say, denying the story of a modern victim of rape. These are very different things in very different contexts. I thought fans of greek myth would be on the same page about this, what with the plentiful rape, incest, murder, slavery, and beastiality described in myths. But apparantly it needs to be said that enjoying stories that contain violence and crimes like these does not mean you condone or support these actions taking place in our modern society.
People are free to talk about Zues and enjoy his character without constantly giving disclaimers that we can never forgive him and he has done bad things. Because we know that, its established, its clear. People dont accuse you of being a rape sympathizer or being into fucking cows just because you mention Zues. Hes low hanging fruit though. Hera, Aphrodite, Artemis and Apollo, theyve all done horrific shit. But we dont immediately critisize anyone who talks of them fondly. Achilles did it with a corpse cause he thought she was just that beautiful. Obviously thats gross and bad. Liking his stories doesnt automatically mean you agree with that.
I'm not on tiktok (thank god) but ive seen a couple videos and posts that are very black and white. Calypso is an evil abusor and if you like her than you support abuse and rape. It's annoying as hell. I've been abused, ive been in coercive sexual relationships, I know first hand that thats bad. Duh. And if you find comfort in relating to Odysseus because of your own experiences, and that leads you to hate Calypso, thats okay. If people talking about Calypso is upsetting or triggering to you, don't engage with it by all means. Take care of yourself. Block, hit not interested, scroll away.
But what you should not do is tell random people on the internet that they are as bad as rapist abusors because they were talking about the one sided love of a nymph goddess and a mortal man in a musical inspired by anime and video games.
People are able to sepparate fiction from reality with so many other characters, why is it that Calypso is such a controversial one. Her character, and her backstory, have so much to explore and think about, and we can do that without believing that she is without any flaws or faults.
Think of her what you want, say about her what you want. Just stop projecting whatever beliefs you have about what it means to enjoy a fictional character onto everyone who disagrees with you. If you are do passionate about justice for victims, go outside, engage with local communities, see a friend, see a therapist. Speak out about the real, alive abusors and rapists who hold positions of power in our world right now. That will bring much more good to the world than starting discourse on tiktok, I promise you. (not directed at op or reblogger, but for people in general.)
Something I'm starting to notice about this fandom; y'all can like Epic's version of Odysseus without trying to paint Calypso as a rapist.
Odysseus in the original tale did cheat on his wife. Several times. And there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that. But trying to paint him as blameless and all the other women as rapists for seducing him is not the winning move y'all think it is.
Like Tiktok is becoming the worst when it comes to the topic of Calypso.

Mrs. Sherlock Holmes (6)
Summary:Â Your marriage starts rocky.
Pairing:Â Sherlock Holmes x Wife!Reader
Warnings: shy reader, fluff, protective/possessive Sherlock, smut, unprotected sex, angst, Mrs. Demeter being the worst as always
A/N:Â A collection of drabbles on how you became Mrs. Sherlock Holmes.
Mrs. Sherlock Holmes (5)
Mrs. Sherlock Holmes masterlist
Both of you couldnât get enough of each other. After he plugged your flower, Sherlock didnât hold back. Wherever and whenever he got his hands on you, he made you scream, beg, and even cry in pleasure.
âLouder, wife,â he growled with every deep thrust. âI want them all to hear how good your husband makes you feel.â
Most of your days, you spent like this, filled with your husbandâs thick cock. Sherlock is a man possessed when it comes to you. The moment he steps into your home, heâs all over you.
âSherlock,â you whimpered his name. It was the second time today that he had you underneath him, pinned to the mattress by his large, and heavy body. âHusband.â
He nodded against your neck before his teeth left another mark. A sign that he claimed not only your hand in marriage but your body too. âI know, my love. Let go. Scream my name.â
âYears spent with worry and work only for him to chase me away like a thief. I didnât get the chance to pack my things before she hit me with a broom. I bet; Master Holmes wouldâve never let me go if only he knew the truth about the succubus he calls his wife.â
You pressed one hand to your mouth, choking out a sob. Not only did Mrs. Demeter make your life a living hell while she was still around, but she also feds lies to the people in town.
How dare her? You have been nothing but kind to her. She was the one lying to your husband and acting out.
âIâll set her straight,â Enola grunted. She wanted to storm toward Mrs. Demeter and the other women, but you held her back and shook your head. âY/N, let me go! She lied! We know that she lied!â
âStill, these women wonât believe me. Sheâs a vicious person and only lies come out of your mouth. We both know better than to step into her trap. She saw us at the bakery. Mrs. Demeter wants us to act out. We are ladies and will behave in public.â
âWe canât let her get away with this,â Enola wiggled in your hold. âPlease let me explain things to the women.â
âNo,â you sternly said. âI will tell my husband about it. Sherlock will not tolerate such behavior from a former peasant. I know you mean well, but sometimes even you must hold back. Sherlock doesnât need the wrong kind of attention while solving a case. Please, for once, listen to someone else.â
Enola stared Mrs. Demeter down. She curled her upper lip but didnât do anything drawing attention toward you. âFine, Iâll do it for you. If I ever hear a lie about you again, I wonât make any promises.â
âWhat is it, my love?â Sherlock worriedly watched you lie on the bed, curled into a ball. You sniffled and hid your face in the palms of your hands. âY/N, wife. I need you to tell me what happened. I cannot help you if you keep me in the dark.â
âSheâand then,â you cried, still shaken from what happened in town and when you came back home. âShe wonât leave me alone.â
âWho?â Your husband stepped toward the bed to sit next to you. Sherlock ran his hand over your shoulder, gently touching you. âMy love, please talk to me. Who made you cry? This morning, you smiled, and now, youâre crying your eyes out.â
âMrs. Demeter,â you choked on your tears. âI saw her in town. She spread lies about me. Mrs. Demeter said that I lied to you and that I was the reason.â
âY/N, my love,â he murmured your name and kissed your temple. âI want you to tell me everything. I need to hear every detail. Please donât hide from me again.â
You gathered all your strength and slowly sat up to hand Sherlock the letter you found on the doorsteps of your home and another piece of paper.
Enola insisted on writing down every word and handed it to you. She even noted the names of the women Mrs. Demeter was talking to.
While he stared at the pieces of paper in his hands, you told him everything that Mrs. Demeter said to the other women.
Sherlock hastily read the lines, his features darkening with every word.
âMy love,â he softly spoke to you. âThis woman will never bother you again. Iâll make sure of it.â Your husband sighed deeply and shook his head. âI was too lenient with her. Even after she lied to me, I made sure that sheâd get a new position.â
Eyes filled with fresh tears you looked at Sherlock. âWhy canât she leave me alone? I did nothing wrong. All I wanted was to love you.â
âI love you too, my love.â He cupped your face to kiss you softly. âEnola will stay another night and keep you company today. Iâll make sure Mrs. Demeter knows her place.â
âLord Taddleton, itâs time for your teaââ Mrs. Demeter blanched watching Sherlock talk to her new master. Both men watched her step inside the room, a tray in her hands. She whimpered and dropped the tray the moment Lord Taddleton dismissively flicked his wrist.
âMrs. Demeter,â Lord Taddleton sternly said. âI heard from Mr. Holmes that you are spreading rumors about his lovely wife. Not only did you lie about her, but you also threatened her most viciously. You are dismissed, and I will make sure youâll not find a new employer in this town.â
âLord Taddleton, itâs all a misunderstanding,â she begged and pleaded. Mrs. Demeter believed she could get revenge on you and not pay for her lies. âPlease believe me!â
âYou think Iâll believe a peasant over Sherlock Holmes?â Lord Taddleton sneered. He was a strict master, not soft and understanding like Sherlock. He treated Mrs. Demeter like a peasant from the beginning. âYou will leave my house within the next hour.â
Watching your husband walk inside the library, you held your breath. You didnât know where he went, but you assumed it had something to do with Mrs. Demeter.
âShe will never bother you again, Y/N,â he said, and sat down next to you on the chaise lounge. âPlease donât pull away from me. I had nothing to do with the rumors she spread. The letter, it was all lies. Iâd never betray you like this, my love.â
You sniffled and threw yourself at Sherlock to hide your face in his chest. âIâd never think so low about you, husband. She wanted to hurt meâŚI know this now.â
Sherlock closed his eyes and tried to forget what he read some hours ago. Mrs. Demeter dared to accuse him of being unfaithful when all he did was love and adore you from afar.
THE END

Of Whiskey and Venom
A/n: cowboy Jason Todd x Reader, f!reader, there will be multiple parts to this because I canât help myself.
Owing debts to outlaws means playing dangerous games. You know that, well and true. When Carmine Falcone finds out that you donât have the money to pay him back, he offers you one final method of payment. Your debt would be forgiven in its entirety, so long as you walk yourself to the notorious Red Hoodâs camp and surrender yourself with the claim that youâre part of the Falconeâs.
In Gotham, big of a town as it is, word gets around to people fast. Whether it was through gossip or the newspaper boys hard at work, most things never stayed secret.
Usually, it was annoying. Last year, some nosy neighbor had discovered that youâd managed to get your hands on some quality eggs, courtesy of a friend of yours down South. Within the week, almost half of your neighbors had collected at your door at some point or another to ask for some. Would be a shame not to share, theyâd said.
Usually, the knowledge of any of your personal business getting out would set you on edge. Itâs never been any good to you, only ever causing trouble.
Today, you find cause to be grateful for the quickly spread word. If not for Gothamâs tendency to whisper in each otherâs ears, your neighbor would never have come to knock on your front door that morning, all out of breath with urgency all over her.
âYouâve gotta get out of here,â sheâd panted. âRun. Run and donât come back!â
Youâd quickly invited her inside, checking outside left and right before shutting the door.
âMary, the hellâs gotten into you?â
But all sheâd done is deliver a soft smack across your shoulder.
âTake this seriously! Darlin, itâs Falcone.â You still remember the ice that had trailed its way down your spine. âMy husband, Rupert, told me that heâd overheard some of his boys talking about it. Heâs lookin for you.â
You forced yourself to shake your head, pushing back the instinct to freeze up entirely.
âMary, it just ainât possible. Falcone and I, we- all of my business with him has been settled.â
âYes, well, he doesnât seem to agree. Now, go on! Pack your things. Iâve taken a horse from the stable for you. Sheâs a fast girl, just old. Wonât nobody come looking for either of you.â
In the end, youâd had enough sense to listen to her, but there was no packing your bags fast enough to escape Falcone. Midway through packing food for your trip, long after Mary had left, youâd heard a different kind of knock at your door. Demanding. Angry.
That whole interaction felt like ages ago to you now, including the conversation youâd had with the man. Heâd explained it to you simply, tone so light youâd hardly believe the weight of the words he cracked into your skin, like a cane to a horse.
Apparently, all that time ago when youâd paid back your debt to the man whoâd come to collect it from you, there had been a breach in loyalty within Falconeâs gang. Your debt collector had taken the liberty of deciding his own pay, stealing nearly half of the money youâd paid for himself rather than handing over the full amount.
Despite it being an error within his own system, Falcone refused to hear your bargaining. Youâd even gone so far as to promise him that money again, all youâd need was a month.
Heâd shut you down quicker than you could finish making the offer.
Instead, Falcone offered you a counter proposal.
Itâs that counter proposal that has you currently making the solo hike to the Red Hood camp, handcuffs digging uncomfortably into your wrists set in front of you.
What Falcone offered to you went as such: After one of Falconeâs newer men went out and shot a man from the Red Hoods, Hood demanded to be delivered one of Falconeâs own as a leveling of justice and show of goodwill. A gesture to calm the waters between them, since the last thing anybody in town wanted was for the two most dangerous gangs to have it out for each other.
Your job is to be that token of goodwill, to march your way into that camp and declare yourself as a surrender member of the Falconeâs to fulfill their demands.
Do so, and heâd make the kind decision not to take the life of the neighbors that tried to aid in your attempted escape.
The camp is far into the woods, well outside Gotham itself, causing your dress to catch in every grown out bush and twig. Your feet ache from walking so long in the wrong shoes, while your hands havenât stopped shaking since you were forced to leave home.
There is no getting out of this, you know that. If you run away now, if Falcone finds out that you didnât settle this debt for him, there would be no corner of the earth far enough for you to hide. Itâs either he kills you, or you take your chances with a gang so successfully underground, not even law enforcement knows the real name of its leader. Doesnât mean theyâre any less brutal, though.
Youâre going to die, all because Falconeâs men canât do their jobs, whether that be collecting debts or not shooting the wrong damn people.
Thereâs a point where the path you walk narrows out, becomes thin and difficult to follow. At some point, you can hardly tell which direction youâre supposed to head, saved only by the spots of recent horseshoe markings in the dirt.
It feels like any second, youâll be surrounded by people with rifles pointed right at your head. With each step, your breathing further shallows into something unintentionally quieter. A bush rustles to your right, and you feel like an idiot for flinching back when a rabbit runs right out and past you.
After so long walking, youâre starting to think that Falcone couldâve been wrong about the location of the camp. After all, this part of the woods look completely wild, utterly untouched if not for the occasional broken twig or trail marking.
âWhoâs there?â A voice shouts out.
Then thereâs a gun being pointed to the side of your head. Well, at least you know that if thereâs ever an award for jinxing yourself, youâd win it. Or maybe not, considering youâre very likely to be killed within the next few minutes.
âCarmine Falconeâs debt,â you say simply, proud that youâd managed to keep the waiver out of your voice.
Thereâs a pause in the air, before you can see the manâs mouth pull into a grimace out of the corner of your eye. âThat so?â He mutters. âRight. Well, youâre going the wrong way. Come on.â
The redhead, whoever he is, takes great care not to spook you. His rifle, attached to a belt over his shoulder, is exchanged for a single handgun, one just within reach tucked into a holster. The hold he has on your forearm is surprisingly careful, less there to keep you from running and more to guide you through the confusing twists and turns of the woods.
âWatch your step,â he warns. âHood is gonna be pissed.â
âWhy?â You risk asking.
So long as the debt is settled, it seems to you that Hood would be getting everything he specified in his deal. Youâre the one being screwed over here.
âCause, it looks to me like Falcone sent over somebody he doesnât mind losing instead of an honorable trade.â
You raise a brow. âWho says I ainât a high value exchange?â
The redhead snorts. âAre you kiddin? You donât got a single gun-wielding callus on you. We lost one of our best that day, and Falcone sent us you.â
A pause.
âNo offense.â
âNone taken,â you grumble, bitter for reasons you donât even know yourself. Maybe itâs because youâre being completely screwed over here, but whoâs to say?
Itâs not long before the overgrown woods level out into a large clearing, the man weaving you past hitched horses to reveal a large camp. Itâs nothing like what youâd expected, hearing what you have about the Red Hoods. Vile, vicious, and mean.
Come to find out their camp looks like an isolated meadow, sun shining down on their colorful tents. From where youâre standing, you can see a young child playing with an even younger puppy. Just past that, thereâs a table of people gathered around two women who look to be playing five finger fillet.
The redhead calls out to an older woman to your left who you hadnât even noticed, sitting quietly as she polished a hunting knife on her pants. What youâd do to be wearing pants instead of a dress right now.
âMa Gunn,â he greets. âGot a moment?â
âDepends, Roy. More of your trouble?â She says pointedly, but Roy only laughs.
âNot this time. Just got some business to discuss with Hood. Mind keeping the young lady here some company?â
Ma Gunn waves Roy off with a free hand, sheathing the knife and standing.
âGo.â
And then youâre alone with her. Ma Gunnâs eyes are fixed on the metal binding your hands together.
âIn some trouble with the law, dear?â She raises a brow. Youâre not quite sure what to say to deny it, but some part of your face must look panicked because she breaks out into a quiet laugh. âRelax. Weâre hardly the kind of people to judge you for having lawmen after you, not that weâd have any right to.â
Right. Outlaws.
âBesides, you donât seem like the gunslinging type.â
âRoy said the same,â you tell her.
She snorts. âCourse he did. Howâd you end up here anyway? Tell me youâre not thinking of joining in. Iâm telling you, it might seem nice at first, but itâs nothin worth putting up with Bizarroâs cooking.â
âNo, not joining in. Iâve got a debt to settle between Mr. Falcone and Hood.â
Itâs within an instant that the womanâs face changes, much more grim than just a moment ago. She looks at you like youâve already been damned, no shot at survival left to you.
Royâs back already, tipping his hat in thanks towards Ma Gunn, whose eyes still havenât left your cuffed wrists.
âHood wants to see you. Come on, Iâll take you over.â Roy doesnât touch you this time, just hovers his hand over his lower back like he can force you to move telepathically. You do.
Together, youâre approaching one of the biggest tents in the camp, far in the back. Entirely red, though what else did you expect?
You stop in front of the fabric curtains.
âI think itâs best if you head in alone. Good luck.â
Right. With a final deep breath, you duck into the tent. It feels like stepping into your own casket.
You find that the inside looks bigger than the outside, complete with a large cot, a table surrounded by chairs, and a small bookshelf. At the table sits a man you can only assume is Hood himself, feet resting on the wood as he leans back in his seat. Heâs got his arms crossed over his chest, gambler hat set on the edge of the table just by his boots.
Heâs surprisingly handsome, sharply contrasting all the stories people tend to spread about him. When heâs not wearing a bandana, heâs said to be grotesquely scarred, some even say to the point of deformity. The man is front of you is very much not that, all sharp features with the only visible scars on his face being one over his lower lip and the other down across his brow.
You step forward into the tent, and the wood beneath your feet creaks. Quick as gunfire, narrowed green eyes level with yours. Thereâs a hint of disbelief in them, like he canât quite believe his eyes.
âBy Gotham, that fool was telling the truth.â You hear him say, gruff and mumbled.
It takes more effort than youâd ever admit to speak without breaking down right there. Youâre practically speaking to your executioner right now.
âHood, right? Carmine Falcone sent me to-â
âYeah, yeah, I know why he sent you.â Hood drags a hand down his face. âWell, isnât this just a mess.â
With a tired sigh, Hood calls you forward with a beck of his fingers. Once youâre at the other end of the table, he motions for you to take a seat. You do, albeit on unstable legs. Itâs a miracle your knees donât just buckle when you move to sit.
âSo, tell me. This Carmineâs idea of a joke?â
âNo, I-â
âHe think itâs funny to send me a girl he picked up from who knows where? Send her to her death just to get off clean?â
âIf youâd just-â
âCome on, doll. I wanna know. Why the hell is Falcone sending me you instead of what I asked for?â
Hoodâs eyes are cold as steel, but youâve got the strange feeling that his anger isnât entirely directed at you. Still, better not to assume.
âI am what you asked for. You werenât cheated.â
Hood snorts, entirely humorless. âYou? Now, forgive me for my doubts, but Iâm having a hard time-â
This time, youâre cutting him off. âI am,â you insist.
Hood pauses to look at you. Really look at you. Thereâs an amusement settling in his posture that you donât like, one that promises nothing good for you.
âRight. Well, who am I to tell you what you are or arenât? Far be it from me.â
Heâs reaching for his hip, unholstering the revolver strapped there and setting it down on the table. You watch the motion as he does it, staring down the weapon between the two of you like it could shoot you without its handler ever touching it.
âThis gun here? This is one of my most prized possessions. If this whole tent were to catch fire right now, everything I hold dear tucked inside, this gun would be the only thing Iâd bother savin.â
Heâs watching your reactions carefully, so you're just as careful to keep your expression back. Youâre not sure what heâs looking for, so better he not find anything at all.
âNow, I personally believe actions speak much louder than words. I wonât sit here and call you a liar for telling me youâre a gunslinging outlaw straight from Falconeâs best, but I will tell you to prove it to me.â
Hood nudges the gun closer to where youâre sitting. âSo go on and prove it. Take my own gun and shoot me. Eliminate any threat I pose to you within seconds, selfish and brutal.â
You can do nothing but sit there in stunned silence, hands tightly gripping the fabric over your lap. âHood, I donât-â
âI insist.â
Your hands shake when you bring them up with a sheepish grin. âCanât exactly do that with cuffed hands, mister.â
Hood waves you off. âIâve done worse things than shoot a man with my hands cuffed. Come on, Miss, prove it to me. Unless you canât.â He tilts his head at the end.
To kill a man, to take a life. You canât just do that. As is sensing your inner turmoil, Hood offers you a sarcastic pout.
âWeighing on your conscience, is it? Well, if it helps you any, it wouldnât be a good man youâre killing. Iâve committed too many crimes to be clean of anything. All youâve gotta do is put a bullet between the eyes of a man who might just kill you unless you do. Not so much of a choice, is there. I sure know what Iâd do, if I was you.â
Hood is egging you on, pushing you to prove him wrong. He wants you to do this, wants you to pick up that gun and send a bullet straight through him. He wants you to because he knows you wonât.
The worst part is that heâs right.
You turn your head away from the gun, away from him. Itâs answer enough.
You see Hood nod slowly out of the corner of your eye, reaching for his gun to holster it with a rustle and a click. He sets his feet back down to the ground, crossing his arms over the table to lean forward.
âAlright. So tell me again now. Why did Falcone send you?â
The change in tone has you thrown for a loop. Within seconds, the pressing intimidation from before is gone, now much softer in comparison.
So you tell him everything. From your neighbor at your door, from your debt to Falcone, the threats heâd made, all the way to the present moment. This time, Hood doesnât interrupt you once. He listens carefully, nodding at all of the right places to each relevant point. When you finish, he simply asks you if thereâs anything else worth mentioning. At the shake of your head, Hood stands.
âIâll have someone let Falcone know that his exchange has been well received. So long as he thinks youâre with us now, no one you know will be bothered. As for you, youâll be free to do whatever you want with your days, just as long as youâre here during the nights. Howâs that work for you?â
For a moment, all you can do is stare. Then, ever so cautiously, you dare to ask, âyouâre not gonna kill me?â
Hood shrugs. âI have no reason to. This way, youâll be safe and I won't be bothered by Falcone trying to buy back my truce.â
âBut what about your wholeâŚyou know.â
Hood raises a brow at you, urging you to continue.
âYou know. The whole âeye for an eye, tooth for a toothâ thing.â
Hood grins, toothy and predatory. âTrust me, doll, Iâll still be getting something back from Falcone. I tend not to forgive easy. Hands out for me.â
Quicker than you can process his intentions past putting out your hands, Jason is drawing out his revolver and shooting the chain between your cuffs quicker than you can flinch. He ignores your stunned expression, clipping his weapon back to himself.
âIâll ask the girls to get you some decent clothes and set you up a tent. Pleasure meeting you.â
Without another word, heâs exiting the tent and leaving you to stare at the chain that used to link your wrists, now scattered into tiny pieces of metal across wood.

Jay Kuo for Think Big Picture:
Weâre all still grieving the electoral loss and feeling queasy about the prospect of Trump returning to the White House in January. But in response to the giddy pronouncements from the GOP and the Trump campaign, some have already begun to think about an effective political resistance to Trump and Trumpism.Â
Democrats need to make these plans knowing full well that Trump will be backed by a sycophantic GOP Congress and blank check-writing SCOTUS. And this time around, there wonât be any adults in the room, including White House counsel who during his first term would quietly shelve Trumpâs most outrageous requests, or chiefs of staff like John Kelly who would struggle to moderate, educate and soften his most extreme positions. No, this time around Trump will be surrounded by people even further to the right of him. They will seek to implement the most dangerous and destructive of policies, many drawn from the Project 2025 blueprint. And they will encourage Trump to issue Executive Orders that could reshape American democracy, insert our armed forces deeply into civil affairs, hurtle our economy into an abyss, and upend the lives of millions of minorities.
This is a thought piece, an early stab (and work in progress) about how Democrats (and the lawyers who are aligned with them) can ready themselves to resist Trump. Weâre in very new territory here, but the ideas are based on what weâve learned about Trump from both his first term and the four years heâs been more or less idle when he wasnât sitting in courtrooms or stumping on the campaign trail. They play into both his ego and the worst aspects of his character and leadership style. I hope you find this early exploration a good starting point for how the next four years could go if Democrats play their cards smartly, even if the strategy seems highly unorthodox. Note that I wonât be discussing what average citizens might consider doing. This, for now, is the beginning of a political and legal strategy. Others involved in grassroots organizing may have ideas for direct resistance by citizens, but that is for another discussion.
[...]
Hit âem with lawfare
One of the most effective weapons against Trumpâs policies during his first term was the slew of lawsuits that his executive orders met when they were first announced. Remember the Muslim ban? That bounced up and down the courts for years before it could finally go into effect in a watered-down form.Â
Lawyers from every non-profit walk of life should be readying civil complaints today, just as people like Russ Vought are already preparing horrific executive orders for Trump to sign. The minute Trump announces his Day One policy to deport millions of undocumented migrants, for example, lawyers everywhere should file suit. It shouldnât just be one suit; it should be several. Tie up the White House lawyers and the Trump Justice Department with as many cognizable claims as they can think of. More than the sheer number, they should file these cases before judges in jurisdictions where the appellate courts will be more friendly, such as in the Ninth Circuit. This is the inverse of what MAGA and Christian Nationalist legal counsel have been doing now for years by picking a single court near Amarillo, Texas to ensure their cases are heard before radical judge Matthew Kacsmaryk.
Once those cases are filed, judges (and their clerks) should slow-walk them. Act like the nun in The Sound Of Music, opening the gate as slowly as she can so the Nazis are delayed. Then, after issuing temporary restraining orders, set the hearings out as far as possible. Have the lawyers demand extensions. File motions that could receive interlocutory appeals, to further gum things up. In short, drag things out as long as possible to prevent his policies from going into effect. Governors in blue border states could also get involved. California and Arizona both have Democratic governors, after all. And they also have Democratic state attorneys general. These states could move to intervene in suits or file them on their own, just as the red states have done to block Bidenâs policies like student debt relief. Sure, this will eventually get up to the Supreme Court and get overturned, but the point is delay. Run out the clock, run out the clock, run out the clock. Trump only gets four years, two before the midterms. [...]
These are but a few broad-stroke ideas, but itâs time everyone who will be part of the resistance start thinking about how they can play a vital part in pushing back. Some of these tactics are admittedly unorthodox, others quite petty. Still others are variations on what has worked well before. Together, they could bog down or distract Trump and the White House just long enough for the midterms to give Democrats a chance to regain control of one or both chambers and really turn up the heat.
It may make many quite uncomfortable to consider deploying these kinds of strategies. They make Democrats into obstructionists, even political saboteurs, much as the GOP has been for the few cycles when Democrats have been in charge. But here there is a difference, though itâs one MAGA Republicans will never acknowledge: When actual fascists have taken control of the government and are trying to destroy democracy, patriotic opponents must use every peaceful means at their disposal to prevent them. Indeed, it is a moral imperative, because millions of lives are on the line. We cannot act as if the world has not changed, and Democrats must grow far more accustomed to acting outside the box and getting creative in their approaches.
Itâs time for Democrats to play rough by delaying and gumming up Donald Trumpâs tyrannical proposals to run the clock down.

âI AM AWARE OF that now, but at the time, it seemed plausible. I didnât know you very well either, only going by rumors and what information I was given.â Which wasnât much. Jiyan had been new to his role, and so there wasnât really any dirt to gather. Everything about him seemed âfineâ on the surface; however, Calcharo had figured there had to be far more behind that smile and handsome visage. As time passed, he thought whatever mask the other wore would eventually begin to crumble and their real face would be exposed. Three years was an awfully long time to wear one, though, and so he had discarded his original thoughts. âThe me from three years ago, really did think that you and your people were from another planet with how bizarre your behaviors were to me. I was not overexaggerating when I said that there are not many places like Huanglong. You all being so welcoming is not the norm elsewhere, believe it or not.â
   Especially towards mercenaries.
They were often met with suspicion or anxious glances â understandable and expected. He had assumed that would be the same back then as well, yet was taken aback when his assumptions fell by the wayside. âIt doesnât matter. That was a long time ago. Things change quickly.â There was a quiet that fell over them as they walked; a comfortable silence now that most had returned home or their rooms at the inn for the evening. The hustle and bustle of earlier was nonexistent, the only other sounds to greet them being the sound of the wind in their ears and their shoes against the ground. âIt was good to see you so at ease today,â Calcharo finally spoke, turning his gaze down to Jiyan. âI notice youâve been relaxing a little more lately â at least when we speak. I canât say much for how things are back at Norfall Barrens. I expected youâd want to spend the majority of your time doing work.â The dinner had been unexpected, certainly. He had fully intended on eating something quick back in their room alone and leaving it at that. âI even caught you joking and laughing. Who would have thought such a serious general was capable of that?â
Though, could he really talk when he had been no different? He didnât come here to enjoy himself. He came here primarily due to work and to find out the secret of the Sagaci Springâs healing properties out of a curious whim. Everything else had merelyâŚhappened. âYou lookedâŚâ he paused, brushing aside the thought that had come to him â a thought that nearly slipped from his lips, âlike you were really enjoying yourself.â
Of course he laughed. It was a ridiculous thought. But, not because he didn't think it was possible to convince or intimidate an entire city into doing one's will, but for a far simpler and more obvious reason. âIt's not surprising, I'm aware of the methods of gangs. But it wouldnât have been a smart move to try and trick a group known for its severe retribution against those who betray them." And, even if a mercenary group would never stand a chance against an entire territory's army, it made no sense to risk the lives of rangers, especially when they were already lacking in manpower. "And, more importantly, I donât gamble with the safety of Jinzhou.â And that's what those types of 'plans' were: a gamble. One only needed to threaten someone who looked nervous or frightened enough, and the scheme would crumble. Too much to risk, too little to gain.
"Calcharo, sometimes you talk as if the people of Jinzhou hail from another planet. But I assure you that we do not. The reason why the citizens weren't afraid was simply because they had no reason to be afraid in the first place. The Midnight Rangers, the Ministry of Development, and the Madam Magistrate work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the city, so that no threat makes it past its walls. You weren't an unknown threat to them, but an esteemed guest." Of course, where there's light, there's also shadow and the dangers that lurk in it. But the people trust and know the main pillars of the city will never turn their back on them. There's no reason to fear or be suspicious of others when they're esteemed guests. But he could see why such was a difficult concept to grasp for those who hailed from a land with no law nor organizations to ensure the safety of the people.
"Don't worry, it won't happen again," he reassured the other man, and made a mental note to keep his... less professional thoughts to himself. It's easy to relax and be more open than usual when he has the company of the mercenary leader but, now that he stops to think about it, he needs to control that. Which, he admits, partially goes against their conversation about 'taking what he wants'. But, for the time being, he'll take advantage of the technicalities, as taking and saying aren't the same thing. "It's different, I'll admit that." In reality, it was harder than he thought, but saying such could ruin the mood, so he kept quiet. That aside, perhaps it was due to the hour and how empty the streets were in comparison to a few hours ago, but he no longer sensed curious and amused gazes looking in their direction. When he grabbed Calcharo's arm, he was prepared for... for what exactly? It didn't- shouldn't matter. What mattered was that he felt warm despite the cool breeze of the night, and this was nice. Tonight had been nice. If he had done as usual and focused solely on work, he wouldn't have been able to have dinner with Calcharo nor go the sagaci springs.
Ah, perhaps, this is what taking what he wants really means. And, while a part of him couldn't shake off the feeling that he was overlooking something important, it was a start. Well, it had to be.

fuck it, a look into "the beast of busan" with jungkook, apart of my valentine's day masterlist
youâre the only reporter who wasn't scared of documenting the valentine's day crimes of jeon jungkook - a notorious serial killer known as the beast of busan.
âOn Valentineâs Day, Busan has endured one of the most heinous crimes imaginable on a day that is supposed to be about love. It was dubbed âThe Valentineâs Day Murderâsâ by some for how gruesome the crimes were of the couples slain that night. However,â there was a pause as your eyes flicker to Jungkook. His eyes meet yours and he smiles proudly. âthe murders had not stopped on the Holiday and instead, there was a serial killer tormenting the people of Busan.â
Jungkook chuckles quietly and you feel disgusted. Itâs as if you werenât speaking about him - as if you and he werenât in the same all white cafeteria in the prison he resided where he was deemed a psychopath for his lack of empathy. You are positive he was reveling in the fact that you were here - in the same sundress he told you to wear - and interviewing him.
It makes your skin crawl.
âFor the following months, the serial killer continued tormenting the people of Busan, killing any and everyone who he deemed fit that caused a panic throughout the city. No one knew if they were next - me included.â
Jungkook tilts his head, lips pursing a bit at your last comment.
âThe serial killer was given the nameâŚthe Beast of Busan. And today, Iâm interviewing him to get a deeper, more introspective outlook on why. Starting from the very beginning.â
Jungkook is excited, never having been interviewed like this before - at least not one with someone so beautiful such as yourself.
âJeon JungkookâŚâ you gulp after saying his name. â...please introduce yourself.â
âMy name is Jeon Jungkook. People of Busan know me as the Beast of Busan.â Jungkook chuckles, completely unfazed and lacks any empathy of why he got the name. âI was born and raised here. Itâs my home. I love Busan.â
It was Jungkookâs idea to have cameraâs set up facing him as he speaks into the microphone. He said whoever supports him would want to see footage of him - a vain statement.Â
âYou cannot love it that much, surely. You caused a panic.â
Jungkook licks his lips. âThat I have.â he nods in agreement.Â
--
Jungkookâs eyes trails over the sundress, admiring the way it sits against your body. âYou look very pretty today.â
âIâll have to edit that out.â you sigh, but your body reacts for you, heat radiating throughout.Â
âSorry.â Jungkook flashes a smile that would cause your heart to beat faster if he wasnât a serial killer who lacked empathy. âWould it be sad to sayâŚthat I didnât have a reason?â
Jungkookâs skin appears to glow in the camera, your eyes flickering to the way he leans a bit closer, his jaw appears chiseled and you understood why he had a bit of fangirls. Maybe it was easier to be attracted to a killer when he was behind bars - still, he was just that. A killer.Â
âMaybe I was bored?â Jungkook says with a careless shrug. âMaybe what people were saying was correct. Maybe I was lonely and took it out on couples.â
You remain silent as Jungkook speaks.
âOr maybe I just did it, just because. To see how far Iâd be able to go.â
Jungkookâs tone gets deeper and deeper as he speaks, his eyes more cloudy. That familiar switch turns off and itâs as if the Beast is emerging.Â
âMaybeâŚI wanted your attention.â
You can feel the hair begin to rise on your skin. âExcuse me?â you murmur. âI didnât know you prior to-â
âI knew you, Y/N.â
Your eyes begin to widen slowly.Â
âMaybe you were the reason why I killed them.â
âStop.â
âI wanted to get your attention any way I could. Any attention from you is good attention in my eyes.â
âStop.â your teeth grit, heart pounding so loudly.
