putting this under the cut bc y’all don’t need to see this but I need to say it *somewhere*
just watched rm’s wild flower mv, fresh off the back of watching jhope’s MAMA performance and award acceptance speeches this morning and analysis brain goes brrrrrr
do I know I’m reading too deeply into the music of a couple of kpop stars I don’t know? yeah. does that stop my brain? no
the main thing that struck me about jhope at the MAMA awards was a certain kind of sadness. jhope was there as himself, but he was also there in the *absence* of bts. he was what was left when the others either couldn’t (or didn’t want to) attend, and no where was that more obvious than when he stepped up to accept the awards.
the first thing he said when he went up was ‘I’m not rm. this isn’t my strong suit’. he straight up said he doesn’t think bts achieved anything amazing this year, and then had to backtrack by thanking fans for their support. the second time was even worse. he phoned jin live of stage.
it was a savvy move, in some ways, because jhope knows what their fans want to see, who they want to hear from, and to a degree in bts, it’s never been him. he’s not rm, he’s not jin, but he can get jin on the line to appease some of the perceived disappointment and it *did* work
meanwhile, with solo works starting to come out, contrasting jhope’s more and arson, the two single tracks, with rm’s new wild flower, it feels like you can see how years of working in their roles has stressed them and pushed them towards these changes.
namjoon and hobi already spoke about how they felt about their work during the farewell dinner as well as in various interviews; rm is burnt. out. in charge of too much, working too hard, non stop, til he had nothing left to give. wild flower is about wanting to return to a place of obscurity and creative freedom without expectations; about the danger of blindly following ambition without thinking about where it will take you
jhope’s arson is the opposite. it’s a song about hunger, about being unfulfilled by what he’s done so far. it’s about accepting that his work has consumed his life, and he can either stop and let it all turn to ash, or keep pushing and see how much brighter he can burn. more is so clear it almost prevents any kind of analysis; he wants more
I’m not dedicated enough to find lyric translations for all their songs, so idk what the rest of their albums have to say in more depth, and tbh artists making entire albums about their own psyches always strikes me as rather immature conceptually, but it’s always been clear that rm and jhope are two of the most dedicated members to ensuring bts runs smoothly and it’s good to see that they’re both finally getting time for themselves and their work
here’s hoping namjoon gets the rest and creative rejuvenation that he needs, and that hobi continues to decisively grow his career
#look the contrasting themes in kpop idols' solo works got to me okay#I never planned to be a bts fan but here we are

They filmed at Dumont Dunes, a desert in California (src).
Both the truck and the bus have YET2COME plates.
The MV has the boys wandering in a desert and revisiting past eras of their discography. The place is nod to the sea and desert metaphor they used several times in older songs (see this post for more information).
Here’s a list of some nods to past music videos:
“No More Dream” MV
상남자 (Boy In Luv)” MV
V’s outfit also reminds of all the school uniforms they wore during the SKOOL LUV AFFAIR era.
”하루만 (Just one day)” MV
“I NEED U” MV, 花樣年華 on stage: Prologue (cr.) and Euphoria : Theme of LOVE YOURSELF 起 Wonder
“I NEED U” MV, RUN” MV, Euphoria : Theme of LOVE YOURSELF 起 Wonder, WINGS Short Film #5 REFLECTION, “FAKE LOVE” MV
You can spot gas pumps near the container. They’re nods to the gas station RM has been associated with since “I NEED U“. It’s heavily BU related and can also be seen in “Blood Sweat & Tears” Japanese version MV, in Euphoria : Theme of LOVE YOURSELF 起 Wonder. The same is true for the blue container, since it’s where Namjoon lives in the BU.
This post has more information about both the gas station and the container.
Concerning Euphoria, @_cottoncandy_JK has another parallel with Jin.
花樣年華 on stage: Prologue
“Epilogue: Young Forever” MV and Euphoria : Theme of LOVE YOURSELF 起 Wonder (cr.)
BTS has been running in most of their MV. From the finale sprint in the Japanese version of “No More Dream” to “Yet to Come” by the way of “RUN” obviously. But considering the angle of the camera and the fact Jimin turns back, Young Forever and Euphoria are two strong candidates as the inspiration for this scene.
LIVE TRILOGY Episode III: The Wings Tour trailer
SUGA is standing on a player piano (src)
It has also been noted that the piano is not broken, contrary to all the other times (cr.). For more information about SUGA and pianos, you can check this post.
“피땀눈물 (Blood Sweat & Tears)” MV
Jin and V traded places during the blinding scene.
“DNA” MV
Jin’s outfit reminds the one he wears in “DNA”.
“봄날” (Spring Day) MV
The last scene is a reproduction of the train scene in “Spring Day”, they have the same pose. But considering they’re in a bus, we can also consider it a nod to the beginning of “No More Dream”.

I think taehyung has the deepest voice and rm might be a close second but I don't know yoongi's raspy voice just does it for me even if it's not the deepest
for our indulgement: time to crank out the vocal analysis discourse for the three baritones. let’s see: who has bts’ deepest voice? and: why exactly yoongi sounds so raspy.
SUPPORTED RANGE
RM and yoongi span down to A2: in songs. so far, tae did C3 so that’s actually slightly higher! even if he has bts’ widest vocal range (!) and is more trained, the rappers go down further more comfortably. which makes sense: otherwise tae wouldn’t be in the vocal line singing with the tenors if his comfort zone wasn’t settled a bit more above. but still, that’s very interesting.
UNSUPPORTED RANGE
when comparing strained low notes outside of songs, yoongi and tae went down to Eb2. the difference was: yoongi’s had projection and fans on site pointed out they actually heard it. there was less strain as well. ironically, suga ranks last in vocal technique for obvious reasons but he still has resonance like that: tells us something. it’s not trained or pushed, it’s naturally (!) there. yoongi is the ‘properly’ deepest, tae the very close runner-up, and RM in third place; tae confirmed he doesn’t go as low.
that yoongi is the only member who hardly sings and has a lot of trouble tackling it — tenor-heavy kpop music is manageable for lyric baritones at best — is a glaring sign he has the lowest voice AND range settled the deepest as well. the deeper the range, the more of a rapper you end up in a group, and the more autotune you need to keep up with the higher keys. full singing pieces written for him would be extremely outside the genre. guess why yoongi was the most averse to becoming an idol rather than a PD. he knows his range is least suitable for bts’ keys. hell, recently... dynamite even has a key change upward. and his lines are decreasing — guess why, he’s the deepest baritone.
which means for the comfortable range again, yoongi can probably support further down if bts ever made a song including those notes (99% unlikely). if you ask me, with training he’d probably make a good ‘almost’ lyric bass-baritone. he’s not extremely heavy-sounding, but at the brink. that he’s entirely untrained makes it hard to gauge. if he can match someone who does singing as challenging as taehyung, it’s still a sign though. with training yoongi would discover his unsupported range is quite immense. he could train himself to go even lower than taehyung since where taehyung’s unsupported lower range ends, yoongi still resonates. yes, he can go even deeper. so... that’s an exciting thought.
SPEAKING VOICE
the daily life convos (although not perfectly indicative) already show it: when you look where their voice ‘sits’. you can clearly hear that tae is a lyric baritone. it’s all softer, very audible. namjoon can amp up the high pitch as well. meanwhile, yoongi’s voice cracks immediately and becomes fragile that way. joon’s sometimes does as well, but not as easily. yes, it connects to technique and being warmed up, but it also shows where yoongi’s limits are. which in turn tells us he rather excels and extends in the other direction.
people usually become silent when he’s conversing, he talks in a different range. you always need to turn up the video volume because the frequency (!) is so much lower! #1 sign his voice is the deepest, with joon and tae you hardly need to listen twice. sure, he slurs the speech more, but it’s clear he is less at home up there. yoongi’s voice is pretty big in the chest, mind you. tae has that as well, his resonance is very powerful, but yoongi becomes extremely booming the louder he becomes, and the tone resonates even lower in the torso. the more he relaxes, the deeper it becomes.
tae and RM speak a lot more in mixed register in the meantime, often from the head. yoongi never does that. they can get upbeat and high-pitched without sounding too odd. they can shout and raise the tone with good pressure. they have to deliberately lower their tone to be as booming while yoongi doesn’t have to: he only has to speak more confidently/freely. big difference. yoongi already speaks in that range. if he deliberately lowers his voice, crazy shit happens! and you need to crank up the volume even more. you heard it, yoongi is too deep for the human ear.
taehyung’s depth comes from the upper chest, the front of the throat. similar to namjoon. his depth is in the throat, front of the chest, sounding more growling. he needs the diaphragm to become as low, only then he’s booming, but it doesn’t sound pronounced like him in his comfortable speaking. yoongi’s voice is already at the back of the esophagus and wayy down the chest, and he knows it lmao! his voice resonates closest to the heart if you will, guess why he is so full of love. anyway.
that’s why it’s raspy: vocal fry — speaking from the upper throat to match the other members is already way too high for him and he tenses up. if he doesn’t use vocal fry, the intonation would not be clear enough to understand if your headphones are set to hobi’s pitch. i think the developed the rasp to keep up and be understood. that bts is so loud and even has a tenor as high-climbing as jimin is sort of his blessing and curse. but: it shows what his voice’s strong suit is by comparison.
what i also noticed is that it’s too deep to come out/be translated by the mouth. yoongi is very taciturn so his vocal cords are not used to it. i dunno why but i notice that deep voices become hoarse and squeaky more easily, you have to strain a high voice hard to get there. when yoongi is just humming, you hear the pitch as it is. again, this all happens if he adapts to the other members and the tone doesn’t come out clear since he’s not built to speak high.
god forbid he does anything head voice, it’s meme torment 😆 his vocal cords are just... different. he speaks consistently way deeper than the other baritones and the voice drops even more at the end of the sentence. i guess that’s why he’s so easily compared to a cat because purrs are also very very low. 🐱💜
TL;DR:
yoongi — deepest
taehyung — second deepest
namjoon — third deepest

BTS - Most likely to date an ‘Idol’ (Most to Least)
Our opinions only. You can find out about the professions/careers of our headcanon OC girlfriends here (only Jimin’s girlfriend is an Idol).
Our full masterlist can be found here for many more scenarios, original art, quizzes, preferences and much more!
Please like and subscribe if you enjoy our content! Reblogs are much appreciated.
Content below the cut
1. Jimin
We see Jimin as being someone who would want to date someone with similar interests to him, and not have specialist knowledge that was too far out of his comfort zone. With an Idol, he would be able to relate to her on a more personal level; being able to sympathise with her experiences and lean on her for support. He would love being able to join her in dance practice and in singing duets together, even if they were just at home together. A part of him would also get a kick out of fans ‘shipping’ them together, finding the fanart made about them both super cute. If he was with someone who had debuted more recently (such as within our headcanon fics - where his girlfriend Ara becomes an Idol part-way through their relationship), he would find great comfort in being able to offer her advice, such as how to relax her muscles after a long day of dancing, or how to sooth her throat to improve her vocals. He also would not mind the fame aspect of being with someone famous, though he may get occasionally jealous of the attention she is getting from other men. He would feel comfortable showing her off at events such as red carpet premieres and confirming their relationship through their agencies.
2. Jungkook
As someone who has mostly grown up among other groups, we think it would be natural for Jungkook for fall for another Idol. He is incredibly passionate about singing, and the thought of being able to collaborate with his girlfriend (either formally, or just in the shower at home) would give him serious butterflies. We also think being with another Idol would give him more confidence to work on solo projects, such as writing more lyrics and producing his own songs. He’d love the support and feedback that she gave throughout the process and also want to help her with her own music. Although the hectic schedule they both had would mean he missed her so much when they were both busy, he’d love being able to steal little moments backstage together during award shows and events. His pride when she won an award would be next to nothing; he would be unable to contain his happiness.
3. RM
Namjoon is someone who is known to have quite a good knowledge of the members of girl groups. While we do not think he would seek out a relationship with another Idol particularly, if he met someone who he liked who happened to be an Idol, he would not let that get in the way of his happiness. He would understand and be prepared for the challenges which would come with dating someone famous; especially how little time they would get to have together. However, he would take a mature approach in their relationship and would find the time to make sure they still got to spend quality time with each other, either in person or far apart, using technology to help them keep in touch. As the leader of his group, he would have a good insight into the pressures of the industry, and would want to support his girlfriend with any struggles she might face. Although he would be likely to keep the relationship private at first, as it became more serious, he would enjoy being able to sit with her at events. To the outside world, they would seem like a very stable and classy couple.
4. V
While we do not think Taehyung is someone who follows girl groups or Idols incredibly closely, usually feeling more drawn to actresses, we think he would find dating an Idol more convenient in a way, though our instincts tell us he would be more likely to go for someone in a less famous group, who does not have as much media attention. He would love the cutesy aesthetic of typical Kpop, and is also someone who would absolutely love singing duets in private, often in the shower or just around the house. Dating someone who is almost as busy as him would relieve some of the pressure of being a ‘good boyfriend’, as he would know she would understand that he cannot be with her all the time. Likewise, he would get a thrill out of initially keeping the relationship a secret and hiding from the press when going on dates.
5. Suga
Although we think Yoongi is someone who would crave a more normal relationship and would be quite unlikely in the long run to date someone famous, we realised that if it suddenly came out he was secretly dating an Idol, we would not be surprised. He would definitely not ‘look for’ someone famous to date, but if he met someone who was just as passionate about music as he was, especially if they wrote and produced their own songs, either publicly or privately, he would not let the fact she was an Idol stop him from being with her. He would enjoy seeing her during events such as award shows, even if they did not sit together or get to spend a lot of time together; just seeing her from across the room would be enough to give him butterflies. Likewise, he would be quietly proud of her achievements, probably not showing his emotions on camera, but waiting until they were in private to show the extent of his love for her. He is someone who values a woman’s personality above all else and we see him as loving someone with a similar sense of humour to him. If an Idol had these things, he would fall for her regardless of her profession, though we do see him as suited to someone less famous or a music producer more than an Idol.
6. J-Hope
We don’t really think Hoseok would have strong opinions either way about dating an Idol, but it would not occur to him to pursue someone with the same career as him. Instead, we think he would be naturally drawn towards girls who have slightly different interests to him who he could learn from. He’d also enjoy dating someone with a more ‘stable’ career, so he always knows she will be there for him when he returns home. However, if he did date an Idol he would love dancing with her; teaching her new moves and enjoying the adrenaline rush which would come with the vigorous exercise. It would be something he’d love doing as a couple, and he’d find it hard not to join in if she wanted to show off her choreography.
7. Jin
Although he would not be against dating an Idol if he met someone he really liked, we feel Jin would prefer a more traditional relationship where he can rely on his girlfriend to be there for him when he comes home. The pressure of dating someone famous might be too much for him, with it being harder to find quality time together to go on dates or do things together such as cooking and creating a home. He is someone we feel craves a family of his own, and we think he would find this difficult to do if the other person had a hectic career. Once he has a family, we feel he would settle down and semi-retire from music. This would be more stressful if he also had to ask his girlfriend to give up her dreams to be with him.

bts as one direction songs
jin
steal my girl
everybody wanna steal my girl
everybody wanna take her heart away
couple billion in the whole wide world
a hit! even if you don’t know one direction, chances are you’ve heard steal my girl... same goes for mr. worldwide handsome; people who know absolutely nothing about bts know jin. they may not know his name, but they surely know his face as he’s so unforgettable, just like this song.
suga
strong
i'm sorry if I say, "i need you"
but i don't care, i'm not scared of love
'cause when i'm not with you i'm weaker
there’s a certain vulnerability about strong that really suits yoongi. they way said vulnerability builds up only to shatter in the chorus really makes me think of him, maybe i’m just a little attached to this image of him... regardless, i think it’s fitting.
j-hope
live while we’re young
let's go crazy, crazy, crazy 'til we see the sun
i know we only met but let's pretend it's love
and never, never, never stop for anyone
the chaos in this song and video really scream “hoseok”! they just do! it’s a happy song as well, which pairs perfectly with his personality. it’s loud, memorable, fun, and joyous, all of which are adjectives that describe him to a tee.
rm
fireproof
and nobody loves you, baby, the way i do,
it's been so long, it's been so long, maybe we're fireproof
'cause nobody saves me, baby, the way you do
i chose fireproof because it’s so underrated. it’s arguably one direction’s best song, yet it’s slept on because it isn’t as flashy as their singles. this made namjoon come to mind. he’s such a talented boy, but he’s often ignored by everyone (even fans) because he isn’t as “good looking” as the other members.
jimin
little things
i won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
but if i do, it's you, oh it's you, they add up to
i’m in love with you and all these little things
such a cheesy, cute song is perfect for jimin. the lovey dovey lyrics remind me of him, especially the verses. for some reason, the lyrics sound like something he might say himself, as they’re all about loving every part of your partner, especially their greatest insecurities.
v
diana
diana, let me be the one to
light a fire inside those eyes
you've been lonely, you don't even know me
i chose diana solely because it has a certain fire about it, a kind of passion i can’t really explain. though i can’t explain it, it makes me think of taehyung sometimes. i can honestly see him fitting perfectly into an au based upon this song; maybe due to the desire to help that’s communicated through the lyrics or maybe due to the feeling of determination they give off.
jungkook
what makes you beautiful
baby you light up my world like nobody else
the way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed
but when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell
this is that song! wmyb is a song that literally everyone knows... everyone. everyone knows the name, everyone knows the lyrics, similar to everyone knowing jungkook. not only that, but i chose this song for him because it’s really cheesy (cringey almost), but you have to love it anyway.

*each squiggly divider represents a flashback, straight divider represents current time*
Yoongi preferred the heat set to exactly eighty degrees Fahrenheit, which was utterly ridiculous. It caused you to toss and turn in a pool of unattractive, and possibly foul-smelling, sweat all throughout the night. Even more so, he trapped you with his own limbs, protecting you like that stupid dog from Tom and Jerry protected that awfully large and awfully raw steak. You’ve fallen in and out of consciousness because of it, surely waking up every thirty minutes while the man slept like a log.
But it was wonderful.
You open your eyes for the umpteenth time, assuring he’s still attached to the hip and planting a kiss on his forehead sleepily. What a dream it would be to stay like this forever, you think, tossing the idea away as quickly as it came. It was punishing as is and you dare not tie the noose around your own neck.
You scan the room, curtains drawn closed and tv silently flicking through commercials, casting a dim width of light onto the bed. It must still be pretty early in the morning, you assume, a bittersweet realization.
Enjoy the moment, you correct yourself, be happy that you were able to have this. So you peer down at him through foggy vision, his eyes closed and mean, twitching a bit enough that you suppose he’s dreaming of something himself. Nudging your face into his hair, which smelled faintly of smoke and peaches, you force yourself back into slumber.
For the first time tonight, you sleep deeply.
Wondering how the hell anyone was permitted admission after the venue breached occupancy threefold, you rub at the aching spot of your ribs that your neighbor unintentionally keeps jabbing. You attempt to peer over the sea of heads anyway, looking for that goddamned girl that dragged you here in the first place. Where was she? Why was she so short? Why did you wear heels to a concert?
Never did you suspect you would be pushed against barricade at 11PM on a Thursday, waiting for an artist you have never heard. The sweat that accumulates, quite frankly, everywhere was probably starting to stain your clothes at this point. The beauty of public outings.
“Y/N! Y/N! Right here!” screams the woman of your nightmares, waving maniacally more towards the middle of the crowd than you but nevertheless farther than you would like to travel in this density. You make your trek, apologizing profusely as full-grown adults glare at you for moving, oh help them all.
“I will have your head for this,” you yell into her ear, gripping the divider to ease the stinging pain stemming from your toes.
“Lighten up, you’re at a concert that you got into for free, for heaven’s sake,” Chungha pouts, bopping her head happily to whatever DJ was opening for her beloved. “I think you’ll like these guys, anyway. Really good rappers, up-and-coming and all that good stuff.”
“Yeah, if they even show up. This poor dude has been playing for over an hour. Do you suppose his fingers hurt from pressing all those buttons?” She rolls her eyes in a way that says, please stop already. You really just want to know.
If this DJ had any influence of what the main act would be, you would rather just leave, plain and simple. This wasn’t really your thing in the first place, Overwatch and Red Dead Redemption (not one, but TWO!) sounding much more appealing than listening to EDM’s Worst Hits. But Chungha was a sweetheart who you’d marry in an instant, and when she asked you to come and claimed she already got you a ticket because she knew you couldn’t possibly say no to her, well, you couldn’t possibly say no to her.
You even dressed up for the occasion, a mix of Instagram baddie and Tumblr aesthetic (a sum of words you’d never like to use again) smooshed into one oddly cute outfit, if you did say so yourself.
It wasn’t worth your time.
But then the music starts changing pace, lights changing colors and dimming and smoke machines going ham and you suppose it’s finally starting. Three men walk out, one with orange hair and a long but pretty nose, heart mouth showcasing the straightest teeth you’ve ever seen on a human being, the second slightly shorter, bleached hair styled messily and the hand holding his mic covered in rings, the final with a smirking dimple, leading them out and hyping up the crowd with a few welcoming words that you don’t quite make out.
“There’s three,” you state dumbly.
“Great job counting! Remind me to give you a cookie later,” Chungha retorts halfheartedly, much more intrigued by seeing these men in person, “The guy in front is RM, he’s their leader. Blonde is Suga. J-Hope is the sexy one—HOSEOK OPPA!” She screams as if she’s been struck with a spatula, eyes wide and focusing.
You like their style, you’ll give them that. RM starts the song strong, lyrics so quick and diction so clear that it sounds as if he’s rapping directly to you. They all bounce around the stage, people at barricade, including your friend, reaching out and bobbing along in synchronization. J-Hope follows suit, stage presence oddly intimidating and seductive concurrently, his body more fluid and powerful than any dancer you’ve seen before. You can see why he would be the ladies’ man, lying to yourself if you said your eyes haven’t focused on his hips more often than not.
And without warning, Suga bursts into his own lines, atmosphere changing almost immediately when he brings the mic to his mouth. It’s hypnotic, his words continuously stringing out without break, without a single beat missed. You watch in fear. As the crowd around you screams and attempts to chime in, Suga steps closer and closer to them, squatting down right in front of where you stand and finishing his part with a deep, breathy note. He sits there as both men and women (and Chunga) paw at him and for the smallest of moments, do you think, his eyes lock on you.
It sets you on fire.
Yoongi always made it a point to study the faces of his fans out of appreciation. It would be foolish to say he’d be able to recognize each and every person he’s ever encountered, but he knows you were one to sketch into the archives of his mind. It doesn’t help that you are the only one, mouth slightly agape and teeth biting the inside of your cheek, completely still and studying. For the first time in a while, he feels intimidated; self-conscious even. More than a listener amongst the energetic mob, you look more like a critic.
It makes him shiver.
I would be his groupie in a heartbeat, you think, no doubt that he too is infamous around women wherever he goes. Whatever the matter, seeing this enigma of a man was worth your whole night’s experience.
I love, I love, I love myself! The audience screams, bass intensifying as the other two reach for water bottles propped on the stage. I love, I love, I love myself!
J-Hope throws in some ad-libs, sipping from his water before chucking the lid entirely, Namjoon putting a hand to his ear to egg everyone on and holding his own water above. You still stand in place, astonished how ethereal someone can look on stage and you instantaneously understand why people barricade. Suga catches you again, still squatted in the same position, possibly too lazy to get a water for himself but lets his brothers do what they must, and grins subtly.
You must look absolutely moronic gaping at this man, tongue-in-cheek impressed and hands barely gripped around the bars while everyone else around strains to be closer to the stars of the night.
I love, I love, I love myself! Y’all player hater, you should love yourself!
And that’s when you get—at least, half of a water bottle’s worth of water thrown at your direction. Right in front of the newfound man of your dreams. Everyone else screams madly, acting like these gods have blessed their parched souls with water after days on end, while you now look a little like a wet dog dressed in a hoochie skirt. You shrug, wiping at whatever was worth attempting to dry and thanking the gods that your makeup wasn’t running.
“Oh my god, your shirt is soaked!” Chungha lately notices, head whipping back and forth from the boys to you, back to the boys just in case she was missing something important.
“I would sell myself for that man,” you deadpan, not even blinking towards her.
“Suga? I bet he would accept if you managed to offer it to him.”
“I would easily give him all of the money in my savings right now.”
“You don’t have a savings. Pay attention.”
So you did.
You relished in every part Suga had, finally gathering up enough brain cells to at least rock with everyone else. Every song was like a lucid dream, the concert high really resonating with you. Either that, or you were literally high off of how much smoke there was. Gotta love rap concerts.
Perhaps it was the luck of the opening song, but Suga didn’t make eye contact with you again, a beaten disappointment gurgling in your stomach. But instead of behaving as a kicked puppy and moping about losing every possible chance that the blonde devil would bring you atop the stage and dedicate his serenade of sorts strictly to your face in front of hundreds of people--well, the chances were nearly zero. We're not all winners.
Suga continues on, trying not to focus on the girl with the sharp eyes that makes him clammy to the point where his throat threatens to constrict on him, which isn't optimal. He finishes song after song with his brothers, taking long enough breaks in between to catch his breath and focus on the bigger picture: that there was an entire crowd to please and not just you. Besides, there would always be a pretty or handsome face no matter where he went, he was Suga, goddammit, he wasn't a high school horndog ready to pounce on every intriguing entity he just casually glanced at. That role was a style more befitting for his brothers.
Upon your cognizance that this group was downright brilliant, the concert ends much sooner than you would have liked it. And just like that, the three send their love and are ushered behind the stage. It takes a while for the swarm to dissipate, interlacing your fingers with Chungha's to insure you don't lose her again.
"So, I take it you liked them," she giggles, forehead sheen with sweat because holy shit it's so fucking hot in here.
"They are really... talented. I award proper recognition when it's truly deserved." Tired of waiting, you practically shove your way past the bodies, dragging your poor friend behind you and bee-lining for the entrance.
"Wait! Do you want to get merch?" You twitch your nose, not entirely opposing the idea.
"Are you sure you don't want to just hop in? I'll pay for you!" Chungha cries, halfway into her Uber.
"Sis, I live down the street, I promise I'll be fine. I'll call you when I get home."
"That's so far!"
"I'm walking away now. Go home."
She harrumphs once for effect before waving goodbye, Prius soundlessly whooshing away while your best friend sticks her tongue out at you in the back window. You laugh at her foolishness before spinning on your heel and making your way.
It was just the right amount of chilly, breeze cooling you down a notch. You bet your ass you would remember this night forever, writing a mental note to check out the group on every social platform there was when you got home.
You skirt down a corner of the building, aiming for the route of your apartment--or, at least, where you think it is? "Sense of direction" surely wasn't the best trait on your resume. Walking down the dim street, you notice a few trickling souls walking in and out of the building, probably help from the venue closing up. It's when you see Suga, attempting to light his cigarette and leaning against a black van that you stop like a deer in headlights.
"Suga!" you point and exclaim like a child.
"... Wanna say that any louder, toots?" He chuckles, though, seemingly pleased rather than offended. He scoffs at his empty lighter, tucking the thing in his pocket and leaving his cigarette unlit on his lips.
"S-Sorry. My bad. Do you, uh, need a light?" you offer apologetically, digging through your purse to grab your lucky lighter, an embarrassing bright pink thing with Betty Boop floating in the middle.
"Thanks," he smiles, grabbing the lighter from your hand and flicking it to life as he takes a drag. "Do you smoke?"
"Not cigarettes. Honestly, I already regret offering that to you. That's a bad habit to kick," you sigh, taking it back when he hands it to you.
"Don't I know it." He glances up at your face when he returns your lighter, showing a regretful smirk but studying your face in the process. Well, hell, if it wasn't for the barricade critic.
"I recognize you," he continues, "you were up front, right?"
"Oh, god, I can't believe you remember that."
His heart skips at the match, blowing smoke out the corner of his mouth and pushing himself off the van. "You, uh, looked unimpressed. Got me worried that I lost my game for a bit."
"No! I wasn't unimpressed at all. I'm just a new fan, I guess. My friend brought me. I think I was just in awe, if anything. I even got this hood--"
You quite literally bite your tongue, wishing you could slap your face at the outburst, realization running over you like a train.
"You got what?" he presses, a sly curiousness brimming.
"N-Nothing. You were good. That's all."
"'That's all'? Geez, you're really putting me down over here, toots." He throws the butt and stomps it out, "Those eyes of yours really made me nervous."
Your eyes? How smooth of him. "Oh, I doubt that. You seemed just fine to me."
He hesitates to respond; what exactly are you trying to get at here? Sweet and sour, he supposes. It's interesting to him compared to the countless amount of substance-less gals that suck up to him to simply suck him. New fans certainly were feisty, he supposes.
"Do you live around here?" he asks.
"Are you going to stalk me? Yes."
"Well, if I was, you probably shouldn't have said yes before I answered. But luckily, no." He sticks out his hand, clad with rings of, you're sure of, soaring prices beyond what you can imagine for jewelry, "I'm Min Yoongi. But I guess everyone kinda just calls me Suga now. You can call me Yoongi, if you'd like. Can I ask for your name?"
You take his hand softly, hoping he doesn't notice the way you shrink in it because heavens that near-zero chance of meeting Suga certainly did skyrocket. "It's Y/N."
"Mm, pretty," he comments surely. "Well, Y/N. We're actually going to be here for a while, just finished a few shows here and there and decided to take a break until we can figure out bigger plans," he's talking too much, "Anyway, would you want to hang out sometime?"
You shiver in astonishment, what was happening here? What kind of lucky star flew over your head for this? Your goosebumps had goosebumps.
"That... Yeah, that would be great! Do you... Do you want my number?"
"Would love it," he declares, taking his phone out and setting up your contact without delay.
"Do you do this much? Snag a girl's number after a show?" you joke as you type in your number. Yoongi snorts.
"Girls don't necessarily talk to me in a well-respected manner, let alone offer me a light."
"Well, don't expect that last bit anymore. Smoking really is a pet-peeve of mine," you warn. Who were you to warn him of something you didn't like? Idiot!
"Yes, ma'am. I'll shoot you a text sometime. Was nice meeting you," he says, watching you nod and smile and wave goodbye as you continue on home, Suga's name printed enormously on the back of the new sweatshirt you bought from the merch stand. He bites back a snicker, picking at the hair on his neck before walking back inside.

Love Yourself (Bangtan and EXO fanfiction/SehunxOC)

Chapter 8
The day had finally come for the award show. I was seated in the changing room, having put on the dress Ji-woo had made for me. It was a black skater dress with half sleeves, a white collar embroidered with red flowers and leather belt, paired with black heels. My stylist had flat ironed my hair and proceeded to do my makeup. In the mirror, I spotted the boys also dressed in outfits similar to the color scheme of my dress.
Namjoon was in a white and black jacket with an immaculate shirt, and red pants, while Jin wore an open red flannel button down with a t-shirt and black cargo pants. Yoongi was in a beanie, a red hoodie and shorts and Hoseok wore a black jacket with white stripes along the collar over a black button-down with small white and red print, and dark ripped skinny jeans. Jimin was in a blazer with a red button down and slacks, and Taehyung's outfit was similar to Yoongi's but he wore a black cap with the tongue backward and black pants. Jungkook wore a red flannel jacket with many zippers and a white t-shirt with ripped dark skinny jeans.
"Looks like we're ready," I said after thanking the stylist and leaving my chair, facing the boys, who took in my appearance. They all sucked in a breath, eyes wide before the broke into beaming grins.
"You look cute, Ha-Neul," Jimin said sweetly. "This is the first time I've seen you in a dress. You should wear them more often."
"Do you think the audience will be alright with a girl in your group?" I smiled uneasily. "I'm still a little worried..."
"Our manager did the right thing with putting you with us," Jungkook spoke. "And we aren't going to let out little sister be sad. Today is her debut and we're going to show them just how talented she is."
"You're up!" We heard someone call out from the open door and the distant cheers of the audience came from outside.
"Looks like we gotta go," Namjoon smirked before pumping a fight. "Remember: Fighting!"
"Fighting!" We all shouted before leaving the changing room and walking into the hallway.
The hall was already bursting with heat, and the audience was holding lights in their hands. We walked onto the stage, the intro music in our ears as we met the gazes of the audience. So this was what it felt like to be on stage in front of so many people. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach and up front were where other idols were seated. I spotted Red Velvet, NCT, TWICE, BLACKPINK, and even EXO. Each male was dressed in expensive suits, some just wearing vests with no shirts. As I looked each member over, my eyes landed on Sehun, who wore an all black suit with a shirt of the same color underneath. His hair was shocked back with several strands framing his face, and he too couldn't look away from my gaze.
I couldn't deny how sexy he looked. Whoever his stylist is, they did such a great job making a sweet and sincere man resonate with sex appeal. However, now wasn't the time to stare. I had to focus, listening as the crowd screamed as they welcomed me into the industry. We all got on line and introduced ourselves as the intro music continued.
"Kim Namjoon," he blew a kiss.
"Kim Seokjin!" He made finger guns.
"Min Yoongi," he posed.
"Jeon Hoseok!" He sang, warmth in his smile.
"Park Jimin," he raises his hands.
"Kim Taehyung," he winked before making a cute expression.
"Jeon Jungkook," he crosses his arms, making an okay sign.
"Cho Ha-Neul," I introduced myself before we began the opening choreography for Fake Love.
[Intro: Ha-Neul, V, Jungkook] For you, I could pretend like I was happy when I was sad For you, I could pretend like I was strong when I was hurt I wish love was perfect as love itself I wish all my weaknesses could be hidden I grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true
[Hook: Jimin, Jin] I'm so sick of this fake love, fake love, fake love I'm so sorry but it's fake love, fake love, fake love
[Verse 1: RM, RM & Jungkook, J-Hope] I wanna be a good man, just for you I gave the world, just for you I changed everything, just for you But I dunno me, Who are you? The forest just for us, you weren't there The route I took, I forgot I even became quite unsure of who I was Try babbling into the mirror, who the heck are you?
[Pre-Chorus: Jimin, Jin] For you, I could pretend like I was happy when I was sad For you, I could pretend like I was strong when I was hurt I wish love was perfect as love itself I wish all my weaknesses could be hidden I grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true
[Chorus: Ha-Neul, Jungkook, V] Love you so bad, love you so bad Mold a pretty lie for you Love it's so mad, love it's so mad Try to erase myself and make me your doll Love you so bad, love you so bad Mold a pretty lie for you Love it's so mad, love it's so mad Try to erase myself and make me your doll
[Hook: Jimin, Jin] I'm so sick of this fake love, fake love, fake love I'm so sorry but it's fake love, fake love, fake love
[Verse 2: RM, Suga] Why you sad? I don't know. I don't know Smile, say 'I love you' Look at me, even I gave up on myself Even you can't understand me You say I'm unfamiliar, changed into the one you used to like You say I'm not myself which you knew well No? What do you mean no? I'm blind Love? What the heck is love? It's all fake love
[Bridge: Jimin, Jin] Woo, I dunno, I dunno, I dunno why Woo, even I, even I don't know myself Woo, I just know, I just know, I just know why Cuz it's all fake love, fake love, fake love
[Chorus: Jungkook, Jimin] Love you so bad, love you so bad Mold a pretty lie for you Love it's so mad, love it's so mad Try to erase myself and make me your doll Love you so bad, love you so bad Mold a pretty lie for you Love it's so mad, love it's so mad Try to erase myself and make me your doll
[Hook: Ha-Neul, Jin] I'm so sick of this fake love, fake love, fake love I'm so sorry but it's fake love, fake love, fake love
[Outro: Jimin/V, Jungkook/Jin/Ha-Neul] For you, I could pretend like I was happy when I was sad For you, I could pretend like I was strong when I was hurt I wish love was perfect as love itself I wish all my weaknesses could be hidden I grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true
From covering our ears, mouths, and eyes, from Hoseok and Jungkook's mirror to my and Jin interlocking our arms, reaching out up above, I felt my heart beat synchronize with the audience, and from the corner of my eyes, I found Sehun hadn't averted his intense gaze from me—not once. The choreography had come naturally to me as if I had been a part of this group for a much longer time. It seemed people accepted me as a member of Bangtan while the confetti fell onto the stage. I smiled with content, turning to look at the maknae of EXO, my raised hand becoming a finger heart, the crowd yelling at the top of their lungs due to my gesture. Little did they know that it was meant for him.
******
Sehun was immersed in the performance, the debut of Bangtan's newest member imprinted into his memory. He had seen the choreography of Fake Love many times before but with Ha-Neul dancing with them, it breathed new life into the group, the audience and himself. Nor did he look away from her. He studied the way she moved so gracefully, heavy emotions in her gaze as she conveyed the lyrics into her choreography. From what it looked like, much like him, she focused on the emotion of the dance and song as he did.
He licked his lips, eyes drifting along her face and hair, taking in her petite frame and creamy slender legs, only to find she met his gaze once again, and she gave him a finger heart. He wasn't sure how to feel. His face flared and his pulse throbbed in his neck. The screaming crowd accepted their newest member and adored her gesture, but that gesture was meant only for him.
"Why are you so beautiful?" He muttered to himself as he watched Bangtan leave the stage.
"She's really good," Chen hummed in amazement.
"She has a beautiful voice too," Kyungsoo added.
"Looks like they've got another talented member in their group," Kai spoke proudly before standing. "Come on. We're going next." He looked toward BLACKPINK, and have Jennie some finger hearts and she laughed, returning the gesture as they made their way to the stage, the intro music playing while Bangtan took their seats in the audience.
Sehun exhaled softly, and he made sure to keep a composed expression for this show, and he wasn't going to look away from Ha-Neul. He wanted her to see what he was like on stage. He stood back to back with Kai, his piercing eyes resting on Bangtan's only female member, and he noticed the way she froze, her eyes focused solely on him.
Look at me. Only at me, jagi, Sehun thought to himself as the song began.
[Verse 1: Baekhyun] Aiming at each other so coldly In that voice with a sharp edge It is only full of suffocating things Oh oh oh oh oh Aye ye
[Refrain: Chen] With eyes covered, like that Hearts of each other that are shut tight It struggles to look away
[Pre-Chorus: Kai, Xiumin] Ah, burning deep inside As if it will split I am getting breathless I am thirsty Pouring this one glass full As if it will overflow This dangerous night, I
[Chorus: Chen, All, Kai] It's the love shot Na nanana nananana Na nanana nanana Na nanana nananana Oh oh oh oh oh It's the love shot Na nanana nananana Na nanana nanana Na nanana nananana Oh oh oh oh oh It's the love shot
[Verse 2: Suho] Twisted love and hate Those beautiful memories It is dyed in white Little by little it yellows away
[Refrain: D.O] Everyday it gets deeper, calm down Hurtful words and A darkly burned heart, where is love? Yeah yeah yeah yeah
[Pre-Chorus: Chanyeol, Sehun, Both] Covering my eyes and ears Though I forcefully wander, in the end the answer is love I make my empty stomach full with too much ego The compassion of one empty glass Now fill it again, lift it up, everyone
[Chorus: Suho, All, Xiumin] It's the love shot Na nanana nananana Na nanana nanana Na nanana nananana Oh oh oh oh oh It's the love shot Na nanana nananana Na nanana nanana Na nanana nananana Oh oh oh oh oh It's the love shot
[Bridge 1: D.O, Suho] People come and people go Frozen in this world, you and I The blunt emotions We are slowly getting used to it
[Bridge 2: Baekhyun/Sehun, Chanyeol/Sehun] My heart burns Parched, in that splitting trust I douse myself with you, filling the gaps You light fire to my flickering heart Yeah
[Chorus: Chen, All, Kai] It's the love shot Na nanana nananana Na nanana nanana Na nanana nananana Oh oh oh oh oh It's the love shot Na nanana nananana Na nanana nanana Na nanana nananana Oh oh oh oh oh It's the love shot
Finger guns, the roll of their shoulders and bodies, the seduction in their voices and emotions, Sehun wasn't letting her look anywhere else. While the boys in Bangtan conversed about their performance with grins of interest, even when Jimin tried asking Ha-Neul about her thoughts on their performance, she was speechless.
That was what Sehun wanted. He wanted her to forget everything and make it seem like it was only the two of them in the concert hall. When his hyungs crouched during the pre-chorus, he stood in the middle, pointing his fingers toward Ha-Neul, as if the song was about him and her.
His heart was burning and his mouth was dry, and as the outro played, he fired another finger gun like the choreography made clear, aiming at Ha-Neul and firing. He was falling... falling for her, and he hoped she would catch him.

A great time was had by all. Is that enough to say about our BTS concert at the Staples Center? No? Somehow I didn’t think so. Let’s get this started!
I’ve now had the opportunity to see BTS perform a few times, their first outing at KCon LA in 2014:
The NY KCon in 2016:
The KCon in LA that same year:
The Wings Tour at the Prudential Center:
I’m so happy to say, they have never in any of those times, disappointed. The Thursday show at the Staples Center for the Love Yourself tour was no exception.
Coming into this concert, I had been a little concerned. The first two CD’s of the set made me concerned that they were moving away from the sound I came to love and expected and worried that they were bending to suit an American audience. This wasn’t what I wanted for them. But with the release of the third and final CD of the Love Yourself trilogy, the videos, and performances, it made you realize the spark of what I loved was still there. That they didn’t really care what we thought. They were going to do what they wanted, what made them happy. Which in turn, made me happy. That’s what I want for them. I love this group so much, I don’t care if this particular story arc wasn’t for me, if this is what they wanted to do? Then I’m all for it. I needed to see that sass of the final album, it’s what finally let me let go, let me breathe a sigh of relief and, in turn, allowed me to sit back and enjoy what they were sitting in front of me.
So, beforehand, it was a rollercoaster of emotions, but by the time the concert was there, I was on board, I was excited, I couldn’t wait for it to begin. We started out the day with a trip to the BT21 store (you can find the post on that here), we waved Alix and Liz C off to their soundcheck adventure (we weren’t jealous at all, no, we were happy for them….) and headed off to the Staples Center for our own adventures. Once we got there it was so cool to see the Staples Center bedazzled in BTS gear. They even got into the BTS spirit and bedecked all of their bronze sculptures with BTS jerseys.
What the rest of the crew didn’t know was that LizC and I had whipped up some KCrafts before and trucked that stuff all the way from Colorado to LA. If you remember our KCON headbands, this time we pushed it a little further. I think it started out with a “Hey, let’s make flower headbands!” which quickly morphed into BTS headdresses which would put Busby Burkly to shame…
(Yes, everyone was great sports about wearing them. We love our herd!)
From there we split up into our seat pairs, Cherry and Mystical Being of Unicorns, Molly and LizC, and Alix and I. Luckily, thanks to the super luck of LizC and Alix, our pairs had great P1 seats. Cherry and the MBoU had great luck for the Wednesday night show and this was an auxiliary night for them. We quickly found our seats, squeeed over the view, took our headbands off (as we’re not view blocking monsters) and waited for the show to start.
Just like any Kpop show, they were playing music videos and the place was crazy singing along, just screaming in excitement when a popular song showed up. Everyone was also trying out the newfangled lightsticks. These 3.0 versions not only lit up, but, after being programmed to your seats, changed colors, flashed, and changed in time to patterns programmed into the night. Throughout the concert, it was crazy to see not just the usual sea of lights but a sea that was completely interactive with the program. 3.0 indeed.
I was a little bummed that Kpop is really hammering down the no camera policies. Before it was just no professional cameras but now, the last few concerts I’ve been to, it’s been a ban on all cameras in general. So these photos came with my phone. Hrm.
The band came on to screams from the crowd. It was amazing. They started out with Idol. Actually, this was one of the first concerts I’ve gone into where I’ve cheated and went in knowing what the setlist would be. This time I needed to know, wanted to be prepared for what I would and would not hear, however, I didn’t cheat so far as to watch any of the performances — I just like to go in fresh to those.
Like the Wings tour, the group not only did songs all together as a group but also did their own, solo songs. For some reason, Yoongi’s song Seesaw, all could hear in the lyrics was “I like cheesecake because cheesecake is yum.” sound funny? Listen to it again, and you’ll hear it for yourself. Luckily after the concert Cherry Cordial dug out the actual lyrics and explained he wasn’t actually singing about cheesecake but instead a really sad breakup song….I’m not entirely certain he’s not still talking about cheesecake. Who hasn’t eaten their feelings after a bad breakup?
My favorite solo performance would have to be Tae’s. The song is not only so pretty, but he really has the drama to fill out that performance. his facial expressions, his movements, you can tell that he has that acting ability in him. I also loved the backup dancers he had, completely in black, dancing with the faces behind him? So added to the performance. Not sure if he needed the backup dancers who just danced with him after that though.
Actually. If I were to say one thing about the performances, there were a lot of backup dancers who weren’t really needed, not only during the solo songs but during the group performances as well. BTS are such strong performers, I’m not really certain they were needed at all!
One of my other favorite performances was Truth Untold, sung by the vocal line. The more I hear this song, the more addictive it is. It’s just so freaking pretty! This set of CD’s it really seemed as though this was BTS saying “Your turn, guys.” and in this song, they knocked it out of the park.
I was really excited we got a rapline song. I do miss my Cyphers and I hope to see them back in the next album. But for now? I’m covered.
youtube
Also a little bit mind-blowing? Seeing Mike Drop in person. Love this song and happy to say Hoseok KILLED it.
youtube
While I told you about the sea of 3.0 lightsticks, the other set design I could tell you about was the giant screens. yes, they are the norm for concerts this size, so everyone has a chance to see the members close up, and they had the great videos, during breaks, profiling the members, moving from one screen to the other, working together so it’ wasn’t just like a video playback, but the screens were also used to enhance the performances themselves.
Outside the large screens, they had smaller panels which moved around the stage, creating action and depth. it wasn’t just your standard static monitor, it became part of the act.
I did send LizC a Message after seeing Jin’s jacket. Looks like their costume department shopped for florals at Dollar Tree too! Our headbands were just that much more on point.
There was one song that, turns out, I’d never seen the choreo for. Airplane Pt 2 had members standing on chairs, carrying and dragging mikes around the stage. I’m not sure why I found it to be so fun…but I did! It was just so cheeky.
The costumes were….interesting. There are several times when you sit there looking at an outfit and go…huh. There didn’t quite seem to be an overarching theme in it. My favorite was Yoongi’s red solo top (which unfortunately I could not get a photo of). This actually gave the Herd quite the mystery to solve. We’d seen his solo outfit in pics from the Seoul concerts which had him in the red top and red almost sparkly pleather pants. Our concert? Same red top but plain black dress pants. After the concert, Cherry told us at her Wednesday show, he was wearing the red pants. So what happened? Did something happen to the pants? Did Yoongi put his foot down and say NO I’m not wearing sparkly red pleather pants? Did they accidentally get trashed backstage? Sometimes they change costumes for the US shows, but so far it was just these red pants that had a quick change. (Well, that and Jungkook’s cape shirt, but it’s entirely possible RM was wearing it.) Our friend Alexis came into town for the Saturday show and we begged her…tell us what color his pants are. Message sent? Black pants. All other US shows? Black pants. Our guess thanks to Cherry Cordial? During one part of the performance, he has to slide down this bench and in our concert, he makes it down to the bottom no problem, in hers? He slid to a point stopped, and hopped off. Her hypothesis? The pleather pants just couldn’t make the move and were swapped out.
I still vote for Yoongi “accidentally” tearing them.
Unfortunately, the show did, eventually, come to an end. The guys came back out for the encore, bedecked in the show merch and performed their last songs like Anpanaman
And said goodbye.
We were sad to see them go. Especially since they’re just getting started on this world tour so it’s going to be a while before they come back. But they leave us with these great memories. They gave me back my BTS mojo. Thanks guys, see you next time.
You can see my whole collection of pics here!
The BTS Experience: Love Yourself Tour A great time was had by all. Is that enough to say about our BTS concert at the Staples Center?

Hey, I saw your post about Namjoon being an ISFP and I was pretty surprised. Some time ago you said that he's an INFP (if I'm wrong, then sorry, but I believe you had a discussion on BTS's functions with someone who also tried to type them) and you mentioned he tells us about his sensory experiences. Don't you think he could be just overusing his Si, be stuck in a loop or something? I'm just curious, because I can't see him as an ISFP.
Hi! I’m assuming you’re referring to the time I had a debate with someone whether Yoongi is an INTP or INTJ. I just looked back at it, and I said that Namjoon is an Fi-dom. I’ve been on the fence about it for a long time now, it’s finally now that I was asked that I really sit down to think about it and narrow it down.
Ok, since I only analyzed Ni-tert rather than the possibility of an Si-tert, lemme do that really quickly. Healthy Si-tert is that when the Ne-aux is too busy popping out ideas and possibilities, some of the ideas might be too far out for it to actually work. So the Si is the introspection of what has been done before. Is this idea practical? Is it realistic? Is it valid? Can it actually work? Not everything has to be innovative, because sometimes some of the solutions are actually really simple, easy and is a tried and true way.
If the Ne is stretched super far out to the point that Fi isn’t able to keep up, Si snaps Ne away like a rubberband and Fi and Si loop around the Ne. Si tells the person, “I hate myself because I know I’m right, but everything I try isn’t even working. Everyone’s right, it’s unrealistic. I’ll just go back to sticking to what I know, what’s comfortable, and stop trying to explore my possibilities in making a difference.”
Given that, I’ve never seen his thought process to be “this is a practical, tried and true method that I can use.”
But what if the Se-Ni that I see is actually his Si? If that’s the case, where’s the Ne?
I have a sneaking suspicion that people will point out his music making is his Ne-Si working; it’s his creativity to come up with so many musical things, Si is telling him that music making is a tried and true method of his to share his ideas with the world. But we need to remember, these two are perceiving functions, they gather data for his Fi. As an INFP, he would judge a certain value within himself (Fi), gather the possibilities of where and what kind of ways can this value integrate into society (Ne), and then double check whether this can work (Si). Music is the result of of his decisions, not the process of his decisions. Also, I wouldn’t contribute his music to his Ne. I contribute his music to simply his passion, his job. Also, it’s his hard work (Te) that’s sharing his values and feelings (Fi)
Sensory example: this post. He told us a story with such detail, he remembered every moment. I’m not saying that detailed-storytelling is a for-sure way to recognize a high Se-user, but as my description of an Se-aux, this is how I would consider “gathering data on how the world works, what is happening with the world, and real-life experiences.”
Let’s look into another fancafe post for a looping example. “From the moment I pay attention to myself and others…I feel like I’m wandering with no direction/aims.” This is where I see his Se starting to stretch too far (by paying attention to everyone and himself for so long, to experience and indulge in all the emotions around). When he feels like he’s wandering with no direction/aims, that is Fi-Ni looping, there’s no meaningful direction. Tbh, in the rest of this post, he bounces from “wearing clothes that suits me, so I like it”, people’s loneliness, reaching “perfect understanding”, “can’t make up my mind about the weather”, etc. All of these things, tbh, I’m sorry Namjoon, I’m not following. He bounces around and even I don’t understand what he’s really trying to say (unless I’m stupid, we can go with that if you’d like).
In his mixtape, RM, as well as his random song he popped out (i don’t rmbr why), Always, I see his Fi super strong in all his lyrics, as well as his Ni in regards to finding the meaning of things.
That’s why I think he’s Ni-tert.

Bts voice analysis anon here! I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to respond ❤ it made complete sense why yoongi is the deepest I kinda feel bad for him everytime he wants to sounds cheerful or speak in a way so people can hear him he strains his voice
lot to talk about, i’d like to expand on this. especially what his voice being the deepest means for bts’ songs. plus, where his undiscovered vocal talents are, and in what manner his voice will not strain.
that he’s very introverted contributes to what you say, but yoongi is certainly the odd one out voice-wise, such low baritones hardly sound upbeat. similar to how taehyung being the odd one out in the vocal line whose head voices are literal superpowers. i really respect him for singing with jin and jimin who can climb one octave higher than him, up to C#5! and with jk who has the best technique and breaks into the 6th octave if he goes on like that.
it’s very much like yoongi who probably has to mix their tracks back and forth to fit his parts with hobi (who is a tenor as a rapper! — very uncommon) and namjoon who raps in several modes. very low, very high, very impactfully. he’s the most full-bodied baritone in the group even if he’s only the third-deepest. the tone is just so rich. both hoseok and RM are extreme vocal chameleons on top of that. in speaking and in their music you can hear the difference to yoongi all the time. they don’t suddenly drop in pitch and they’re vocal acrobats.
hobi in particular, this guy can do anything. the sheer agility my god, he connects his registers. he can go up and down, impersonate and do a million effects, adlibs, you know the drill. it’s him who actually owns the “cheerful/loud and clear” brand you mention. which is good if not fantastic for yoongi’s production endeavours, the group mood, and how bts cannot be ignored — but tough for yoongi’s voice and comparison thinking, and when he tries to make a point in interviews. maybe it’s not bad that bts have to slow down sometimes to let yoongi speak, but his tone is drowned out (not intentionally of course) in other occasions and he wakes up hoarse often as we saw. which might sound hot, but it’s not good for him as you say.
to be clear. i wouldn’t chalk down his more monotonous and silent tone as a weakness, it’s just outside of bts’ other vocal variety. he makes up for it with speed and good lungs anyway. we just have to listen more closely to him in talks/episodes/conferences but i think he shouldn’t worry about it either or try to sound more enthusiastic, the fans love his soothing speech for its pure sake. he does change it regardless to be more poignant and blend in. it has pros and cons but it wears him out.
yoongi’s voice is under that strain not just in conversation but also in the studio if he wants to bring connection to the rap line parts instead of having 3 songs in 1. which usually ends up happening anyway. that’s also why the cyphers (!) switch genres mid-song so often: their voices are all strong in different registers! yoongi the lowest, joon midrange, and hoseok up high.
that’s why cypher pt2 is a HUGE stunt and production masterpiece: hoseok’s part is tuned differently, then other instrumentals start with namjoon. and you can literally hear, okay alright a deep voice is coming! from there it just gets deeper and deeper until yoongi is just rapping over a bass guitar (every baritone’s best friend lmao!). god, please give yoongi a big bassline for his every part. “ugh” is the exact opposite: yoongi has to start too high and namjoon also has problems with the key, only hoseok can fully take off after 1:50 with perfect vocal stability. guess which song is autotuned: it’s not cypher pt2! a 3 in 1 song fuels the rapline in a way where they are most comfortable. it’s crazy how far apart they are among each other vocally and it has to be considered.
it’s a dilemma but also why bts’ rap line can tackle any song with at least one member suiting it. they complement each other, every register (except the rare whistle register, aka what mariah/ariana do) is covered. i think that contributed to bts’ fame, it’s so important. however usually, the song caters to hoseok since tenors are preferred in kpop music, or it caters to RM as he’s the central songwriting entity even if mind you, he always thinks about all the members and works closely with yoongi.
but even with joon’s support, it doesn’t work if yoongi is caught in his wish to be a tenor. we’ve seen how much the guy talks about wanting his range to become wider and how he even tried singing quite high for his standards on d-2. he goes as far as collabing only with sopranos to help him achieve that pitch. yoongi is invested to pretty much change his entire vocal type 🙁because the environment simps for high notes so bad (which is fair, falsetto is related to releasing certain happy hormones and highlights parts in songs, but still).
... he actually can’t, unless he wants to damage his throat. that’s the last thing we want. a listener can get the serotonin from a very deep voice equally if they got good taste.
thing is. you cannot morph yourself into a different vocal type and shift your range to the opposite of your comfort zone unless you’re whitney houston. even one in a million tenors like baekhyun can’t make themselves a baritone. his lowest notes are less clear no matter how hard he practices, even if his chest voice is almost operatic and his technique excels. meanwhile, chanyeol (who’s a lyric baritone and exo’s deepest voice) effortlessly hits them without (!!) that kind of decade-long training. have baekhyun or jimin been called bad singers for not being able to cover the other end of the spectrum? nope. so: why would yoongi be a bad vocalist who needs autotune. with lessons, oh man, he could do a lot and many things he dreams of. he has a very unique timbre and enough musical knowledge to do so.
so, we see the magic of your natural supported range. it’s simply given to you. imagine that: if you know you’re not a tenor, you could sort of outsing jungkook — obviously not by technique, but projection— as long as the song is tailored to you and the notes are low enough. yep, jk’s lower register is not extremely forward. each note is perfectly sung because he’s jk, but his power vocals are settled much higher. joon/tae/yoongi would sound much fuller with huge oomph in those lines. that’s where yoongi would be much more clear-sounding to us. a lot of baritone rappers in kpop would be damn good singers.
that’s why it’s good how a lot of rappers produce solos on their own so they can try it out.
you just have to respect that your range usually (not always) goes in one direction. once yoongi rightfully decides to abandon his high note fantasy and goes lower just for fun, we are not safe anymore lmao! exception for range: female singers have an advantage there. trained mezzo-sopranos have great access to the head voice and lower registers since they’re in the perfect middle of the scale. but the guys, forget it, even the baritenors. yoongi’s fullest voice will always be coming from a chesty depth and we love him for it. guy just needs to realize.
that’s why his real challenge is rather somehow tweaking the rap parts so his voice finds good resonance like in “혼술” or even “ddaeng”. where his voice is strong, relaxed, and full and flowing. ddaeng — “boy with luv”, too— is ironically in a very high pitch and again caters to hobi’s tone the most, but: yoongi just scales down to his own octave and it still fits, so — great key choice and musicality! and adaptation. it’s not easy to do. you can tell he plays piano.
he either becomes less easy on the ear or has to autotune himself entirely if he works against his voice. or: goes on a track way outside his supported range (dynamite, WOW). it’s a shame. “daechwita” and “agust d” are such a case: both go into the head voice where your resonance should show the most aka the chorus. there are aggressive belts/snarls/shouts that make more sense for higher, trained voices. yoongi is most famous for raps that are literally designed to fuck up his vocal cords 😷that he’s so skilled as a rapper prevents him from that to a degree, but it’s still not healthy. he adapts a lot to bts’ overall delivery but he doesn’t have to, in fact: he could go in the other direction and it would work even better.
the reason for the title track issue: they are the most energetic. in k-pop, energetic means amping up the pitch. and that’s probably a logical choice and a natural human association. if you make a baritone kpop track with a lot of energy, it probably becomes pretty creepy, uneasy, film noir. but i think that’s exactly yoongi’s thing: to unsettle and critique and rage. i think it could work out. lil nas x is a baritone pulling it off. he achieves energetic title tracks, he honors his vocal type well imo. his live singing is cool af, i need this so hard in the rap landscape. so, it’s not impossible to do.
the trick is probably setting everything to minor key. surprise... yoongi’s challenging title tracks are all in major key. boy with luv: minor key, interesting. the former are extremely difficult for him to do so hats off. “shadow” is more suitable for his baritone as is “burn it”. it needs a very heavy, dark track. which is why it’s good that yoongi has that kind of public image. a baritone’s best genre is not super light and whimsical. that’s why all of our baritone faves are not main vocalists but main rappers. kai, taehyung, jaehyun: low voices in vocal lines are soldiers.
---
now a note on yoongi’s best method of singing since it reflects his voice type and brings out the fullness of it. as in, how does it crack and strain less? guess why “사람” is yoongi’s favorite d-2 song to sing. it’s ALL his comfortable range and the singing — very beautifully done — is in mixed register (= head + chest)! which imo might be his secret weapon. it allows him to do what he longs to do successfuly without going extremely high. bingo.
because: even with baritones, the golden middle is still important. they’re not as deep as a bass, after all. that’s why their voices are so honey-laced in the mixed range and it sounds amazing. heaven, their timbre sounds so seductive. so, it’s wonderful when they find their middle and dare to sing.
i wish yoongi gets/makes more tracks aimed at just that. in “outro tear” he has to go both too low and too high so it takes a lot of production effort to patch it together. the rapline is doing god’s work to make all their voices sound cohesive without being trained singers. it’s always a trade-off and risk, an immense balance act. “paldogangsan” is hard on yoongi’s voice but works as a whole plus it caters to namjoon to carry the song’s message. the cyphers are chopped up and not chart-friendly but each member is in their comfort zone.
PS: i said bts’ rap line covers all registers except one. i think that jin is the one to complete bts’ entire spectrum coming from the vocal line. i’m no whistle note expert but dionysus went pretty high up there, i think he might be able to do it. it’s very impressive, even jungkook and jimin probably don’t have access to that register. so, another point for bts being a very ‘complete’ group.
