What is Love?
Picking Yuuji up from school was not a rare occurrence. On the other hand, picking Yuuji up from school while accompanied by Sukuna was a rare occurrence.
Kids are flocking to you like birds, asking if you were Yuuji's mom, and who that creepy man next to you was — this all reminded said creepy man about why this was a rare occurrence, and how it should stay one.
The final straw for Sukuna snaps when a little boy, probably around Yuuji's age, approaches you with his hands behind his back. "Hi, you are very pretty. Can I be your boyfriend?"
You looked a bit taken aback, before remembering this was a kid talking to you, and kids could be quite . . . odd. "Um, thank you! You are very sweet, but, I already have a boyfriend."
Sukuna smirks to himself, a smug expression painted on his face.
"That's okay. I have two girlfriends; you can have two boyfriends," the kid giggled. "He doesn't have to know."
At this, Sukuna glares at the little boy, fully prepared and ready to beat him up, but he halted, as you placed a coaxing hand on his arm.
"Umm—"
"Here!" The boy shoved a daffodil into your hands, it was covered in dirt and had a few missing pedals.
"Oh! This is—"
"I picked it up from over there," he pointed a little finger across the school. "It's pretty. And you're pretty. So it's for you! Hehe, pretty flower for pretty lady."
Just then, Yuuji came running out of the school's doors — backpack aggressively shaking and threatening to fall off of his little arms — and into your arms, well . . . legs actually. But he demanded to be in your arms.
"Up! Up!"
"Okay, Yuuji." You hoisted him up and he immediately went to bury his face into your neck, calming down from his hyper-ness when he breathed in your perfume.
"How was school, baby?"
"It was so fun! I missed you though." You felt Yuuji frown in your neck.
"Aww, well I'm here now. Let's go home, kay? Then we can make up for the time you missed me, how about that?" You rubbed Yuuji's back.
"Okay!"
Unfortunately for the other boy that was still staring up at you — and now Yuuji, too — he was long forgotten by you. Your full attention now on Yuuji.
When the pink-haired kid is finally in the car, after wrestling to not be strapped down by the seatbelt, he immediately goes to working on an assignment. Strange, you thought, looking back at him through the rear-view mirror. Yuuji hates homework.
This continues when you three get back to the apartment. Yuuji immediately slips off his shoes and takes off to his bedroom, assignment and pencil pouch in hand.
You turn to looked at Sukuna, "I thought he wanted to play first?"
Sukuna shrugged, not knowing what his brother was up to, "He's a weirdo, you know that."
You frowned, "I'm bored."
"I know a way to pass the time."
An hour later, you exit your shared bedroom — planning to start on dinner — just to find notes and drawings all over the apartment. On the floor, in the potted plants, on the coffee table, shoved in crevices on the couch, everywhere.
Picking up a few piece of paper, you find yourself reading:
"Deer Y/N,
You are so nise to me.
You are very good at macking food.
I love you!"
"You are so amazing!"
"I love you so mutch!"
"Y/N is good and nise and prety."
Some drawings even depicted you and Yuuji holding hands.
While eating dinner, you decided to question a very smiley and giggling Yuuji, to find out that he had an assignment to show his appreciation to someone he loved.
Most of the notes were only directed to you, but some of the drawings had Sukuna too. The rest of the evening, Yuuji spent telling you and Sukuna how much he loved you guys. Quietly, and going unnoticed by Yuuji and you, Sukuna reciprocated his brother's affection.
A/N: loosely based on this ask — this was supposed to be wayyyy shorter, but i got a bit carried away

( OO3 ) ★ cat versus cat , choso kamo
featuring. choso kamo x reader
warnings. cursing, mentions of blood from a cat scratch, choso being such a baby bcs he wants attention, baby talking to an animal // wc: 1.9k
ENTRY ( OO3 ) OF THE "INTO THE IPINVERSE" MILESTONE
"okay, listen — you're pretty, and i'm cute..." "don't even start with me." "we'd be pretty cute together."
tags: @sad-darksoul, @sweeneyblue1, @idkuluka, @colorful-happy-shit
choso has never felt so much hatred towards a living thing — until a cat came into the picture, destroying that bubble.
in all honesty, he didn't mind cats or any other animals at all. but this cat, which he heard you nicknamed as "cashew", a large ginger tabby. who's obviously stealing the spotlight. choso couldn't believe he was actually getting his spotlight stolen away by some stray cat that you decided to take in one day.
"the cat distribution system," whatsoever as you told him.
well — he doesn't like the cat. cashew. and it probably doesn't like him back, judging from all the constant hisses, and scratches from the said feline.
"cashew, come here, baby." you cooed — and choso found himself standing by the kitchen, watching as the said animal slowly walks over to your, rubbing it's head onto your calves affectionately.
he remembered when he was your baby.
the male narrowed his eyes briefly, eyeing the cat who then hopped onto your lap. making itself comfortable before plopping down, belly exposed — pleading to be scratched, and choso scowled. he couldn't believe how you were pampering the cat who had been living under the same roof for less than a month.
choso stomps over, sitting on the vacant space next to you. and the cat was immediately on alert, it's yellow eyes following choso's every movement before breaking a loud hiss. a warning. to not get close to you.
the feline only stopped when you caressed your finger behind it's ear, and it purrs out loudly in content. tousling over on your lap like it belongs there — and after a few minutes, it looks over to choso. and looks up to you, as if saying that it's fully got your attention.
how badly choso wanted to toss the animal off your lap and laid there instead.
"who's the cutest baby, hm? yes, you are." you murmured in a high pitched voice, scratching the cat's belly lovingly. resulting in choso's bubbling up frustration, "look, cho, it's so adorable."
choso clicks his tongue, his eyes traveling from the cat to you. he didn't have the heart to tell you about it when you looked so pristine playing with the damn cat. he knew how much you love cats. from the constant showing of cat related videos from social media, or to cat motives stuffs, even cat shaped food.
you drew out your phone, snapping pictures of the cat from every different angle possible. choso damn well knew how you had a private album for the said cat, and he had seen the album before under your permission. only to conclude that he wasn't happy at how many cat pictures decorated your gallery — so sometimes, when you aren't looking, the male finds himself taking his pictures with your phone so he could put it into his folder in your gallery.
"baby," he calls out to you.
blatantly ignored. and it hurts his feelings the slightest bit; he tries to call out to you again, and you responded this time. with a soft hum, yet your beautiful e/c eyes were focused on the cat that laid still on your lap, it's paws reaching up to touch your hand.
"can you pay attention to me too?" he questioned, almost whines out at the fact that the cat— cashew —has your full attention, and the boyfriend here was choso.
"in a bit, love," you reply, leaning down onto the feline's tummy to nuzzle it lovingly, "aww, you're so cute, cashew."
the soft purr emitting from the feline for some reason, irked the male, "i need attention," he mumbles out, reaching towards you — and the cat was immediately alarmed by him, sitting straight up on your lap, eyes intently looking over to choso's hovering hand, "what're y'looking at?" he asks the cat.
the ginger tabby hisses once, making a warning to the male. and as choso hovers his hand closer, the cat swung it's paws onto his hand, scratching it — letting out one last hiss. in reflex you pulled the tabby away, looking at choso, who in this predicament, was the victim of assault to that cat.
the action offended choso greatly and he pulled his hand away, wiping the blood with his finger, "does it have any problem with me?" he mutters out angrily, looking at you.
"are you okay, cho?" you scooted closer to the male, who huffs out loudly.
"no." he murmurs, a little delighted that he's finally got your full attention now and the cat was by your other side. delicately licking it's paw, "i'm hurt."
it was a small scratch. but he can't help it, he wanted your attention. and now that he has it, he'd do whatever it takes so you could pamper him — usually, scratches don't bother him. choso would shrug it off, quoting how it was just a flesh wound.
you found yourself chuckling softly at the male's act, "usually you'd brush that off, when did you become such a big baby, cho?" choso almost. almost. pouts, but he didn't — he just leaned himself onto your body, wrapping his arms delicately around your hips.
"ever since we have a third being in this relationship." he muffled out into your stomach.
"but it's so cute, baby . . . look at it," you eyed the cat, which is now looking at you, letting out a soft meow, "aww, my baby."
choso whines softly, pulling you closer to him, not wanting to let you go back to pampering the cat, "i'm cute too." he said, looking up at you — his chin plastered to your stomach gently, "okay, listen — you're pretty, and i'm cute . . ."
rolling your eyes with a vexing smile, you replied, "don't even start with me."
"we'd be pretty cute together." choso ended.
threading your fingers against his dark hair, you tugged on it lightly, "cho, you're my boyfriend — and cashew is just, a cat. 'm not gonna replace you, baby. i promise."
the male sighs out exasperatedly, knowing he's definitely losing this battle against the feline. nodding mutely, he then said, "can't you pay attention to me too? feel like 'm not even there sometimes," he leaned his cheek onto your thigh, almost purring out as your fingers traced over his scalp gently.
"i will, baby. 'm sorry i made you feel like that," you leaned down and kissed his cheek, feeling the guilt finally washing over you as choso's eyelids slowly shut tight and he finally reigned over your lap, leaning into your touch.
"can we cuddle, please?" he asks, voice very hushed that you almost missed it.
"mhm, course we can."
do we have the attention in the room?
choso sat criss-cross applesauce in front of you and the cat, brows furrowed. fists balled on top of his thighs, watching in annoyance as you peppered the cat's face with kisses.
the male was already annoyed when he woke up from the longed cuddle only to find void by his side — you weren't there with him. you were in the living room with the cat, "'m sorry baby, cashew was crying loudly, i had to go check if something happened."
frankly, he could care less about this "cashew". but he knew, the cat was somehow doing that so you could pamper it.
the cat meows out loudly, looking at choso. it was an innocent look, anyone would swoon over that look from a cat — however, all choso felt was pure anger. as if the cat was looking at him in a mocking way, clicking his tongue, he stood up and walked away without another word. leaving you sitting on the couch as he goes back into the room.
you called out to the male in worry and looked down onto the cat, who was returning the look back at you, "'m sorry cashew, as much as i love you, choso needs me. so be a good boy and don't cry again, okay?" you mumble down, grazing it's small, plump cheek before gently moving it away from your lap.
wasting no time, you trudged over to the room. opening the door softly, peering over the door to take a look at what the male was doing — choso was planted face down on the bed, one of his bulky arm draped over a pillow, and his soft breaths were the only sound you could hear inside the room.
"cho?"
no answer.
you approached the bed cautiously, sliding onto the space beside him, "cho, i know you're not asleep."
choso shifted his head to face you, "what?"
"'m sorry, baby." you brushed his cheek with a small smile, "i can give you attention now — i promise i won't go back out there to cashew," choso hesitantly sat up, narrowing his eyes at you, "don't look at me like that, makes me feel bad."
he latches his finger onto your calves, tugging on your legs lightly before going in between them, laying his head down on your chest, "if you leave me, 'm not gonna talk to you for a week," he mumbles out softly, lips puckered out. he won't last that long.
you giggled, kissing the crown of his head with a soft hum, "okay, baby. noted," he buries his head into your chest, sighing out in content.
choso has never been the one to initiate stuff most of the time. you do. he was kind of . . . like a cat himself, so when you — the initiator, was no longer initiating things. choso grew somehow, desperate. he yearned for you, yet your attention was always on the ginger tabby.
"missed you," he whispered, looking up to meet your eyes lovingly, "missed you so much."
you raised a brow, "we live together baby," he rolled his eyes at your nonchalant reply, holding you tighter as if he's afraid that if he had let go of you right now — you'd stand up and walk back to the cat, who god knows what it's doing alone now.
"yeah, but i never got your attention." he mutters.
"my baby," you cooed down. your high pitched voice made choso's heart flutter, he was enlighted, "'m sorry you felt like that, y'have my attention now."
choso smiles softly, he didn't need anything. just you.
meow.
choso was visibly alarmed, raising his head up, he saw the ginger feline peeking it's small head over your bed. it's paw tapping the surface of your bed a couple of times before it hops up with ease, trotting over to the both of you.
you eyed the cat with a small smile, and it grazes it's head onto your upper arm. looking at choso, it walks over to the male who cringes back lightly as the cat comes closer into his view, "what does it want from me?"
choso squinted it's eyes, ready for another scratch. but to his surprise, the feline sniffed his fingers for a few seconds, with no signs of hostility before bumping it's head onto his digits. the male looks at you, "is it . . . it is cursed?"
as if the feline could understand, it hisses at choso. trotting over to the male and hopping on his back, you smiled at the scene playing in front of you, "get off of me, you . . . stupid cat."
the said cat was unbothered, yawning with a small mewl before circling around choso's back and stopped on the hollow of his back. slowly loafing on it, purring softly, "i think he's grown to like you now," you whispered, taking a picture of both choso and the cat.
choso sighs out loudly, "it's an act, 'm telling you."
"cho, give cashew a chance."
the male grumbled but let the cat lay there on his back, "okay, since you told me to."
"i love you," you laugh, kissing the tip of his nose and choso shuts his eyes again, leaning his head onto your chest.

Gojo stands outside of the business building, casually chatting up his most recent hookup before class. The woman wraps her well manicured fingers in her hair, toying with it, obviously flirting with a pristine grin. Which Satoru absolutely acknowledges (more so because half of her titties are out), but nonetheless pretends to be interested in anything she has to say.
Meanwhile, Shoko and Suguru show you around campus, being that you transferred in two months late from Kyoto.
"So this way is towards the business building, usually that's where at the dick-for-brains frat boys hang around-" Shoko is rudely interrupted by Suguru loudly yelling overtop of her.
"Speak of dick-for-brains frat boys: Gojo!" Suguru smiles and breaks into a steady jog, eventually meeting up with the snow haired man and clapping him on the back. "Who might this lovely specimen be?" He remarks playfully, eyeing up Gojo's newest arm candy.
His blue eyes roll instinctively, smile still plastered on his face. "This is Ayaka, the smokin' hot girl I told you I was seeing."
Shoko groans from a distance. "Looks like Gojo has another toy to play with." She spins around to face you, making your expression contort into confusion. Gently, she grabs the sides of your arms, "Whatever you do, do not fuck Gojo. He has a new girl like twice a month, and as the newbie to this city, he would feel no shame in taking advantage of your ignorance."
A frown replaces the look of confusion, your brows furrowing together. "Shoko, respectfully, I'm not really one for hookups anyways..."
She nods in response, sighing in relief. "Thank god, I cannot handle graduating being the only girl he hasn't slept with."
You laugh at her deadpan nature. "Yeah, sounds like that should be it's own personal award."
Suguru turns in you and Shoko's direction, "Come here you guys! Y/n you have to meet Gojo!"
Another groan is elicited from Shoko before she reluctantly leads the way towards the two men, Ayaka having given him a kiss and left for her class. Gojo glances at you up and down and quirks an eyebrow, something bordering on curious. He steps to meet you two, much to his own surprise and extends a hand.
"I'm Gojo Satoru, you can just call me Satoru." He says, eyes hidden behind a pair of round sunglasses, his bright smile plastered over his face.
Your hand timidly meets his and shakes, "I'm y/n, I just transferred here literally this morning." You shift your weight to one foot, already feeling too open from the way he's staring at you, but you smile back at him anyways.
The tension is thick, Shoko awkwardly shuffling beside you. Suguru is thankfully unaware of this and continues to ramble about whatever else they had managed to come up with in conversation.
Thankfully, Shoko speaks up between the two men for you, refusing to stand here and watch Gojo semi-ogle you while trying to hold a conversation. "Anyways, I'm going to finish showing y/n to the science and art departments, you two dorks can kiss or whatever it is you do."
Your wrist is enveloped by her hand as she drags you around the men and down the sidewalk, the both of you opting to ignore the protests of the duo behind you.
For some reason you can't put your finger on, you glance back towards Satoru, only to find his eyes already on you.
Satoru's eyes follow you, watching Shoko drag you to the north side of campus where the rest of the buildings were. He doesn't realize he's been tuning Suguru out the entire time, well, up until he interrupts the long haired man mid sentence.
"So does she have a phone number or....?" Satoru drags the question out, turning slightly to once again face Suguru, who's expression is one of mild annoyance.
"Yes she does, why are you asking?" He crosses his arms and cocks an eyebrow, almost in an interrogating way, causing Satoru's arms to shoot up in defense.
"I just figured if she's going to be friends with both of my best friends, I might as well be her friend too. Think it'd be pretty awkward if I wasn't her friend, actually."
Suguru sighs, but can't really fight the logic. Tapping away at his phone, he sends your number to Gojo.
"Don't fuck up man, she's new."
Later that night, after finally settling into your dorm and becoming acquainted with your roommate, your phone pings.

Megumi Fushiguro x Reader

Writing in between messages!!
🪡Chapter Nine: Asleep
You and Yuta walk into the theater, Maki leading the way to the seats in the last row. The room is more filled than what you expected it to be, but that’s not really a problem. You see familiar faces among the row, watching maki take a seat in between two empty seats. Now this was your decision, on one side of her was Inumaki, the other Megumi. However before sitting down Inumaki held out a small bag and a soda, “Yuta I got your things.”
With that you decided to take a seat next to Megumi. It’d be easier considering it seemed Inumaki had taken the initiative to set up Yuta’s snacks next to him already. Next to Megumi you could recognize Yuji, and another guy with black hair but through the dim lighting and the hair covering his face it was hard to distinguish him. You recognized Choso, Yuji’s brother, and the last one in the row, his name was Todo wasn’t it? Something like that.
Seeing Nobara so far from you and Maki was a bit odd, but nothing you gave a second thought to considering she seemed content between Panda and Inumaki.
“Hey Megumi, didn’t know you’d be here,” you greeted. “Hey y/n, nice to see you,” he gave you a smile. “You like these movies?” He asked. “Personally I think they’re just okay quality wise, but they can be pretty entertaining.” “Fair enough.”
From the other side of you Maki tapped your shoulder, handing you the snacks Panda had ordered for you. Megumi felt a shove of his shoulder coming from Yuji, him ‘subtly’ nodding his head towards the large popcorn tub he had shoved in his lap minutes before you had arrived. Megumk knew what he was hinting at, and so as the previews began to play he turned towards you, holding out the popcorn. “Do you want any popcorn?” In the back of your head you thought about what you had texted earlier, wondering if someone had told Megumi to share with you, but if he was offering he didn’t mind right? “Sure, I was gonna bother someone to pass me some anyway.”
A little over halfway through the movie, the plot was finally reaching it’s climax. At first you were entertained with the stuff about the doctors and whatever, but now you’re pretty sure you’ve lost the storyline. You pulled out your phone, going to unlock it, until you felt a sudden weight on your shoulder. From the corner of your eye you could see a mop of black hair, and turning your head slightly to see better, you saw that Megumi had fallen asleep. He also just so happened to have done it while leaning on your shoulder.
To distracted with the weight currently on your shoulder (literally) you missed Yuji signaling towards Choso to take a photo. Clueless to what was going on beside you a bright flash caught yours and the rest of the row’s attention. “Sorry, Choso just wanted a picture for his ummm… photography project.” That was a lie, one to take the blame off him and find a sort of reasonable excuse to take a picture of Megumi that Yuji would definitely tease him with later.
Author’s Note: Megumi wasn’t lying about being about to fall asleep, Yuji wanted an excuse to take the photo might as well just blame Choso ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
but anyways hope you guys enjoyed!

“you wanna…hang out? like, right now?” you heard choso say hesitantly over the phone. it was around ten at night and you weren’t busy. you didn’t have anything better to do. plus, you wanted to go out a bit more since you were a bit of a homebody.
“yeah, why not?” you beamed over the phone. “it’ll be fun and i don’t have nothing else to do. plus, we need to hang out more before it gets too cold…winter is around the corner.”
“oh..um, yeah sure. you’re right.” choso answered. though, he was in the clear for the evening since yuji would be spending the night with his friends for a sleepover, the male was still skeptical about somethings.
what if there’s an emergency? what if something happened to his little brother? anything could’ve happened while he was away, not supervising.
you grin excitedly, starting to list multiple places you could go. it took some quick process of elimination just to choose the park. it was simple and it seemed like choso really wanted to go for some reason, so you agreed.
once you got off the phone, you navigate to your messages app and send him a text, ‘oh i forgot to say that if you wanna bring food or something you can.’
now you had to play the waiting game. it was always you waiting longer than five minutes or less than a minute for choso to text back.
well this time you didn’t have to wait. your phone makes a sound shortly after you sent that message. you take a glance down to see that choso loved your message.
‘helping my brother pack. i might be a little late.’
you smiled at the text and urged him to take his time. you thought it was sweet how heavily choso cared for yuji. nothing never went unnoticed around him. he was like a big brother and a mother in one.
you began to put on your clothes and grab whatever you needed before you would finally leave out of the house and make your way towards the park.
the night sky was so clear and perfect. you could see all the stars just from where you were standing. that’s when you started to wonder if choso liked stargazing. how would he feel about that?
you were quickly reminded that choso may not have time for stuff like that since he seemed like a busy man. you could also tell he was the type that wasn’t very exposed to current day activities trending amongst other people.
it’s like he’s trapped in his own bubble.
“hold your hand out,” choso said before lifting yuji’s hand to clip his nails. “now, i’ll be going out somewhere tonight, so i won’t be at home while you’re with your friends…but if you need me, please call me, okay?”
“i know, big brother,” yuji smiled up at his elder brother. choso’s cheeks turned a rosy color before smiling back. “but where are you going? you never leave the house this late unless you picked up work.”
“you’re right but tonight is different…i’m gonna meet our brothers, spend some time outside the house…i shouldn’t be rotting in here all the time anyway.”
choso put the boy down once he finished clipping yuji’s nails and ruffled his hair. he would fold some clothes and place them down into the bag neatly.
“don’t let anybody touch your stuff and break it, okay? you’re allowed to share but make sure they’re being careful. you know money is hard around here and i can barely afford some of this stuff for you.” choso mumbled. his soft expression seemed to turn into a slight frown.
yuji nodded but he couldn’t help but notice his brother’s expression. “are you mad, big brother?”
the dark haired male blinked quickly and shook his head. “no, no. i’m not mad…life is just really hard and i need to probably find a second job.”
working as a bartender is okay for him, he didn’t mind it. but when it came to needing more money to upkeep the house and to satisfy both their wants and needs, he would need a second job.
“then we won’t be able to hang out together,” yuji frowned. it was already hard for choso to make time for his little brother but now it would be even harder.
“i know, itadori…i know. but i’ll make it up to you as best as i can. i promise i’ll never forget about it, okay?” choso held his pinky finger out to yuji. “you trust me?”
“i trust you,” yuji grinned.
“good.” choso smiled as he retracted his hand away from the boy. “now hurry and go grab your coat and your shoes. let’s go, we don’t wanna be late.”
yuji nodded and grabbed his coat from the closet by the front door and put on his favorite red boots before hurrying out of the door, waiting for choso to follow behind him.
after choso drove yuji to the other side of town, choso would make a stop at the corner store and bought another pack of cigarettes and some snacks that you both would like.
it took a little bit of time to make up his mind because he was a bit picky about what he ate but he’d eventually figure it out before heading to the park, finally meeting up with you.
“hey,” choso called her name breathlessly as he jogged over to the spot where you were sitting at. the park was empty, perfect for just the two of you to relax and talk and do whatever came to mind. “i’m so sorry i took so long. i drove thirty minutes from my place, to the other side of town for yuji then back, i’m sorry.”
you noticed his apologetic tone and you nod your head no, smiling at him. “don’t worry about it. like i told you, you didn’t have to rush to get here. i wasn’t going anywhere.”
the two of you finally get comfortable on the grass, eating the snacks you both brought and the drinks. choso noticed you opening a can of beer from the six pack brought with you. the male lifted an eyebrow.
“i thought you didn’t drink..” he said softly. you nod, taking a sip of your beer before sucking your teeth.
“i don’t but it’s nice for the occasion, you know?” you reach down and hand one to choso, offering it to him. the male was about to say no but he considered your next words.
“come on, just one can won’t hurt you. you gotta loosen up a little bit. you’re a busy guy that barely gives himself a break. tonight’s your night, cho.”
the male would light a cigarette and put it between his lips before humming. you were definitely right. choso never gave himself a break. he was always moving. hesitantly, he’d take the can from you and open it, listening to the sound as it hissed open.
you giggled when you saw choso’s face contort to an expression of disgust the second he took a sip of the beer.
“you like this?” he asked.
“i don’t like it either but after a while it’ll taste better.” you reassured. there’s a silence between the two of you as you both sat there, taking in your environment.
trees blowing gently in the quiet wind of the night. lampposts casting dim lights and weak shadows, and the occasional chirping of crickets hiding in the soil somewhere.
choso wasn’t a man of many words so the silence was tolerable but then a thought came to your head. while choso smoked his cigarette and you ate your snacks, you turned to him.
“why’d you wanna come to the park so bad?” you asked.
“it’s from a recurring dream i have. every time i have that dream, i see my brothers here. i just wanted to….i don’t even know. i just wanted to know that this place wasn’t just a figment of my imagination, i guess.”
“do you know what happens in the dream?”
“it all goes by so fast…it’s not that i don’t remember what happens, i just hate talking about it sometimes. i’m sorry.”
“it’s fine, you don’t have to apologize,” you scooted a bit closer to him. “hey, let’s talk about something else. to lighten the mood, y’know?”
“oh..yeah, good idea.” choso nodded slowly, taking a drag from his cigarette. you had an idea already on what to talk about and you were obviously eager. anyone could just tell by the look on your face.
“have you ever stargazed before?” you began.
“uh…no. i mean- i look at stars but…i don’t do it like that. it’s- i don’t know.” he trails off, looking embarrassed and shy when he realized that he’s stumbled over his words a bunch.
“here, lay down.” you would lie down and choso just looked at you as if what you were doing was the oddest thing on earth. you waved your hand, gesturing him to do the same.
finally, choso would lay down, his eyes lighting up at the blanket of stars covering the sky. the stars were beautiful and bright that night. he could see some of them lining up, creating shapes—constellations.
“i love stars. they’re just so pretty.” you comment, “they look so close but they’re just so far…too bad some of them are dead.”
“these stars have been dead for a long time, they’re just now reflecting back to us.” choso chimed in lowly. you sighed.
“don’t you wish you could just be a star in the sky? not having to worry about anything or anyone in the universe, just yourself?”
“i’m not sure if i wanna turn into a star just yet,” choso said. “it sounds like death to me…but if i could run away and live somewhere secluded from society, i’d do it. me and yuji.”
“do you think anybody would miss you?” you frown a little, your expression a bit serious. choso shrugged.
“i have no friends...and if i did, they all died or they’re just people i don’t speak to anymore. i’m that lonely.” he sighed. “i don’t need other people anyway. it doesn’t bother me.”
choso looked at you and automatically felt embarrassed again. he ran his fingers through his medium length hair and shook his head.
“sorry. i overshare a lot.”
“you apologize a lot…it’s not really anything wrong with it, i just noticed that.” you say. “is that just…how you are? if you don’t mind me asking..”
“it’s just how i am, so—never mind. my dad was just so hard on me, i was always apologizing for something and he just kinda turned me into a sorry mess.”
the sudden mention of his father made him frown and he sighed. “i’m glad i don’t live with him…but i would probably stay there just for some money. he’s the typical salaryman with a son that’s broke…or at least, almost broke.”
“does the job you work at not pay enough?” you shifted your body so you were facing choso instead of the sky.
“it helps me get me and my brother some food that would last us a while and probably a shirt. not any of that luxury stuff. the only time i get that kind of stuff is when it’s given to me.”
“okay, that, i think is an exaggeration…every time i see you two, you’re dressed nicely and when we facetime, your house looks nice and clean,” you say. your hand slowly moved towards his but you hesitate to keep going.
“yeah, i guess it is. my job pays pretty well…i guess i’m just paranoid about it not being enough.” choso took a drag of his cigarette. when he felt your hand on his, he’d look down at it then back at you. instead of leaving your hand where it was, he’d take your hand into his.
the two of you were feeling a buzz from the beers you were drinking and the world seemed to be moving in slow motion. choso saw the soft smile on your face as you looked into his soft, tired eyes. you saw how his dark hair covered a lot of his face as he laid on the ground beside you.
“you know, i think you’re a really nice guy,” you blurt out. you weren’t even aware of what you were saying yourself. “i really like you.”
“i….” choso’s breath hitched, “uh…i like you too. i’ve liked you for a long time—since we met.” the male could feel his ears getting hot and the tip of his nose was a pinkish color from the cold, mixed with his blushing.
there was a tingly feeling on his face as his cheeks began to warm with excitement and embarrassment. the cut underneath his bandage was starting to bleed again.
“take this off,” you whispered, slowly removing the bloody bandage, revealing the red cut across his nose that’s usually black. you would take a napkin from your bag and once again, clean the blood from his face.
choso was obviously embarrassed. this was the second time you saw his cut but he didn’t really like others seeing it. the male used his hoodie to cover his nose.
“uh…thank you..for uh—for cleaning it.” he mumbled. you smiled at him and pulled the collar of his hoodie down from over his face before kissing him. your lips locked with each others and you both seemed to be in a deep state of excitement and euphoria.
choso never kissed a girl before. he wasn’t sure what was happening or what he was supposed to do but he tried his best to follow your lead anyway.
when you pulled away, you could see the surprise on choso’s face. his face was flushed from being so inebriated just as you were.
you both fell silent. the only noise that existed was your own breathing and the nature around you. choso was sure he wouldn’t remember much of this tomorrow and neither would you…but deep down, he found it hard to believe.
lowkey this took so long to write,, i’m tired 😭 i’m glad you guys like this. i made something happen so…now its time to get ready to wrap it up. also sorry if there’s any mistakes lol

tho as an aside:
yeah ive no doubt theres some ppl out there who refuse to play any other kind of farming sim that isnt sdv. there's a lot of sdv fans that are like.... just very fucking weird and act like CA invented that kind of game. see: literally the current 'discourse' around fields of mistria being a 'copy' of sdv.
which is stupid btw that'd be like hating rougelikes for being a similar format to yknow. rogue. and soulslikes for being similar to darksouls.

A Special Kind of Hypocrisy (Stayed Gone)
If you have been following my blog for a while, the fact that I take issue with the rules of writing will probably not be a surprise. I think that there are generally accepted guidelines, but these are tools and the best stories use them in unexpected ways.
“Put your readers in the action,” Darksouls is phenomenal and most of the stuff in that story has already happened. “Make your writing flow,” Turtles All The Way Down goes out of its way to feel jagged in order to portray the discomfort of its protagonist’s mind, and that is a book that shattered me for a solid week and a half.
“Show don’t tell”. That one is tricky. If an audience sees something, they are more likely to believe it, so it isn’t a tool for good writing, it’s a tool for making writing feel real. If it’s played straight, it can evoke a feeling of safety and trust, or can evoke emotions in a reader that are difficult to achieve otherwise. If subverted, this idea can present unease, deceit, or even hypocrisy.
Let me explain.
CONTENT WARNING: Not much in this one, but a standard warning because of the show I’m analysing. Gore, foul language, etc. Read at your own peril.
SPOILERS AHEAD: (Hazbin Hotel, The Family Plan)
I feel like clarifying everything I am about to say with the fact that tropes aren’t bad, and that subverting everything doesn’t make for good writing. Stories are about using what you have to build something, and if that something is just a box you can put things in, it doesn’t need to be complicated.
For example, The Family Plan is a perfectly fun movie that I really enjoyed, and it doesn’t push any boundaries at all. It’s just got Mark Wahlberg playing a cooler version of himself and some road trip shenanigans crossed with a spy thriller. It doesn’t invent at all, but its tightly written, well shot, and genuinely quite funny.
I think we look at art these days from an overly critical fashion, evaluating how it contradicts tradition or makes a point that will be remembered for generations, and some stories are aiming for that, but some just want to be a fun ride, and that’s ok.
Some stories, however, want to be controversial, and want to ask questions. Most notably in this context, Hazbin Hotel.
Hazbin Hotel’s selling point is that it dissects morality on an intrinsic level, and part of this is done by the character of Alastor, whom is objectively a villainous character, but who serves as a protagonist for the majority of the season.
Alastor has a song in the pilot, but because I’m not covering that for my own reasons, let’s talk about his musical introduction to the actual series, Stayed Gone.
This song introduces Alastor as a villain, but not an especially powerful one, and I feel like that’s kind of the point. Alastor certainly has an ego, but he’s a parasite. He works by twisting people’s intentions into benefiting him. He’s a schemer, a talker, a forger of Faustian bargains. This song sets up what kind of evil Alastor works with, and it isn’t brute force.
This is exemplified by the music choice, in that Alastor doesn’t add anything at all to it. This is Vox’s song; Alastor just changes the direction a little.
From that perspective, this song depicts Vox more than Alastor, and explores how he causes his own downfall with the barest of inputs from his ex. Remember what I said in the start about show don’t tell? Let’s observe it in action.
Starting with the runup, because this feels heavy, right? It feels like someone is marching with that Mortal Combat style of walk that lets you know they mean to mess someone up. This sound is implicitly threatening.
Part of that is that it is so calm. There is nothing going on here, no fancy movements or anything of the sorts. The base line is the same two notes played an octave apart on repeat. It’s an A then an E played twice, then a few lower notes that rise higher before resolving back to that E. It's like the creature is taking a breath as it moves. A big, lumbering breath for a massive creature. It feels steady and adds variation.
Meanwhile, the higher chords are exactly the same as each other. A Major repeated four times, then the bottom two notes shift down by a semitone each, to throw the listener off balance.
But its more than that, right? These notes make you feel unsafe, there is intrinsic malice to the steadiness. I sent a friend of mine who knows music better than I do a message to try and work this out, and they mentioned that the higher notes give add suspense, which I think serves to make the bass part feel even heavier by comparison. They give you a moment to weight for that strike, like pulling back a bow string, and they give you something higher to contrast that low tone.
Then we get Vox’s singing voice. He’s been talking and vaguely rhyming up to this point, but now we get a song.
Also, there's a drum now. You would think this creates cohesion, but its offset, adding to that feeling of unease. It matches the second note of each bar to further accent the force of that first step by giving it some backwards force, then the same drum plays twice, once off the beat, once back on. Again, we’re lurching.
But notice how Vox’s sentences interact with the bars. Vox is the only thing that messes with the standard rhythm established by the backing music. Where everything is the same beat repeated each bar, Vox talks quickly for a bar then regains composure.
This is enjambment, linking ideas between thoughts and giving vox momentum. Now that weight has direction behind it, and judging by his word choice, that being the repeated use of the pronoun “you”, that direction is towards you.
Skipping ahead for a moment, I’ve found a ton of disagreement in the online sheet music for this song as to whether there is a tempo change for when the TV goes live.
If there is, you could analyse it and point out how it portrays the superficiality of Vox as a person and how he presents as someone less in control of himself when on camera. Maybe there is a question of which the real Vox is, the composed version or the manic newscaster. Maybe.
On the other hand, maybe there is nothing there, and I am going to wield executive privileges gained from this being my blog and go with my favourite one, this one. (I also used this one, for the record, I just prefer the first)
The score I followed gets so much more complicated once the television starts going, and so do the visuals, honestly. Everything about Vox gets so much more complicated, every joke is earning your attention like a TikTok, terrified you’ll look away. This is how advertising works on YouTube by the way, at least the adds that have to contend with the skip button. They compress everything into five second chunks because they need your full focus.
There are a few jokes in here of note. I would be foolish to not mention the venison pun, but none of them are of particular importance, which paradoxically makes them extremely important.
Notice here, he presents two versions of himself. The purpose of a conversation is to have two different perspectives come together, even if they are similar. But this is the same guy pretending to be varied.
Nothing that Vox says means anything at all. It is all one liners and insults, there is nothing going on behind those eyes, and that is exactly the point. He is all talk, no show.
Vox says he’s powerful, he says he will mess up Alastor’s day, his music makes you feel scared, and yet he is empty.
There is a disconnect between what he tells you and he shows you, which is made even more obvious by his obsession with Alastor. Everything he is saying is “Alastor doesn’t matter, he’s insignificant, meaningless, that’s why I wrote this song to tell him as such.” It’s like an ex who is insisting the breakup hasn’t affected him.
Which, side note, sets Vox up as the type of villain who doesn’t respect boundaries. He’s a stalker obsessed with someone who will not reciprocate his affection.
Vox is the personification of those “I can fix him” twitter incels that view sexuality as a challenge to be overcome. He’s one of a triumvirate of chronically online villains, and trust me, there are people out there in real life who are worse than him.
In his watch through and analysis of Hazbin Hotel, @ohnoitstbskyen posited the idea that, since Alastor doesn’t sing his own song at any point in the actual series, we don’t get any moments of interiority. I would like to politely disagree.
Alastor’s entire deal, as presented in this show, is being a Machiavellian schemer. Like I said earlier, he’s a parasite. What we learn about his interiority here is that he doesn’t ever bother to create, he just steals and repurposes.
It’s that thing about Alastor where the show doesn’t tell you what he wants, it just shows you how he works as a person and how he moves towards his goals.
Case and point, here Alastor just takes Vox’s song and makes it his own, offering questions about Vox’s strengths and pointing out the hypocrisy. Although it's interesting what Alastor choses to highlight, because that does shed some interiority.
“Is Vox as strong as he proports? Or is it based off his support? He’d be powerless without the other Vees”
In other words: look at this guy, he has friends that he relies on.
Now, the Vees are awful human beings, Valentino especially but Vox isn’t too great either. But by far their least bad trait is the fact that they support each other. Again, they are cruel, vile entities, but they are cruel vile entities together.
To my knowledge, Vox doesn’t ever deny that he is working with others, or even obfuscate that knowledge.
It would seem that Alastor, in his attempt to criticize his opponent, has revealed something about himself. That sounds a bit hypocritical to me.
Speaking of which, Alastor is entirely hypocrisy. He spends the entirety of the series talking a big game about how strong and powerful he is, but he never actually demonstrates that. He turns off the electricity in the city, but that’s not strength, that’s flicking a switch. He makes threats, and yet doesn’t back any of them up.
“You still pissed he almost beat you that time?”
“Almost” is a key word in that question, it would seem Alastor has a bit of an ego problem.
Which leads me back to the concept of tell don’t show, because if you don’t show your audience something, they don’t trust it. Alastor and Vox are paired up because they both keep talking and proclaiming their intimidation factor, and yet neither of them actually demonstrate any power beyond that which is normal.
Yes, they mow down mooks, but so do Angel Dust, and Husk, and Sir Pentious.
Before I finish up, I want to talk a bit about how performance can affect personality, and with that I want to contrast a cover with the original.
This is a cover by Annapantsu, Cami-cat, and Chloe Breez. I highly recommend checking it out.
But I want to note how different the acting choices are to the original. I’m not saying one is better, I’m saying they are different.
First, Anna’s version of Vox is so much wilder than the original. Like, the version in the actual series rockets between emotions like a greyhound on skates, but when he is in control, he usually has that malevolent smile that tells you he enjoys messing with your perceptions. I don’t think Anna’s version of the character would ever smile except in that forced, news presenter way. This character seems permanently unbalanced and making only the barest effort to present as otherwise.
She also seems like a more active character than the original, who can only react to Alastor’s advances. This version of the character might make an appearance in a later episode beyond the gratuitous dad-watching-the-big-game commentary of the final fight. Maybe she rocks up to the hotel while Charlie, Vaggie and Alastor are on their quests for allegiances in order to just menace the characters in a way they are completely unprepared for.
Meanwhile, all that posturing has been put onto Alastor. Who has one main difference in performance, but one that shakes up the rest of the song. This version of Alastor is put together, just like the show. She’s casual and almost disinterested, just like the show. She’s detached and hands off, just like the show. Until that final verse.
Then she growls, and that little break in character implies that this version is concealing a much more physical menace. The best way I can put the difference is this: For the original version, it seems like transforming is an effort and something that he becomes. For this version, I think the transformation is Alastor’s natural state, and it is taking every fibre of her being to hold together the façade of civility.
Final Thoughts
I despise the concept of genre, and this is actually a good example of why, because… what is this song? Is it pop? Is it rock? Is it jazz? You could argue it is anything, but I would argue it doesn’t matter.
This song is fun, that’s all that matters. It sets up two villains, one of whom I think could have used more screen time in the series, but ho hum, and the other who got so much screen time and yet remains so mysterious.
Next week, I’ll be covering It Starts With Sorry, and I am genuinely shocked by how many people don’t like that number. I think it’s great. Stick around if seeing me argue that point interests you.

Nendo: Hahaha! You've forgotten how to play table hockey, huh, little man?
Kaido: Grrrr, shut up!! I'm just off my game today because keeping my Darksoul Hellbeam power suppressed is using up all of my strength!
Akechi: Hehehe, unless you decide to finally unleash your supposed hidden powers, Kaido, your reaction time is simply too lengthy to compete with Nendo's incredible speed. Your, ahem, "strategies" also leave something to be desired, particularly in considerations of "ethics" and "rules". As comical as it may be to witness your crushing defeat the first dozen times, this gag is becoming quite stale. I would suggest collaborating with Kuboyasu, should you wish to challenge Nendo again. It would certainly make for a much more even matchup!
Kuboyasu: Hell yeah, that sounds like fun!
Nendo: Oh, they're a team now? But I'm already bored.
Kuboyasu: Damn, that sucks! What if we... I dunno, switch the hockey puck with something else?
Kaido: Yeah, I saw that in a manga once! Let's do it!
Kuboyasu: Okay! But what should we use...?
Hii: Oh, I always have some stuff in my purse, let me see if I have something the right size... Ummm, how about this?
Kaido: That looks perfect! Thanks Hii-san!
Akechi: What is that? What did she give you?
Kuboyasu: No clue, some kinda bottle or something?
Akechi: There are clear warning labels on that bottle that indicate—
Nendo: Whatever, let's play!
Akechi: NO, you are NOT playing nitroglycerin ice hockey!!! This isn't that kind of series!!
Kaido: N-nitroglycerin?!
Kuboyasu: Oh shit, isn't that explosive or something⁉️

Moonstruck
a/n: im going to try a new format for one-shots bc i dont like how my old one looked
Taglist: @starlets-things @sad-darksoul
"He's staring at you!" Your friend, Zoe, whisper-shouted in a singsong tone.
"He's such a moron," you grumbled, focused on finishing your assignment.
"Y/N, c'mon," Zoe turned to you with a serious look on her face. "You should totally just give him a chance. He's got the hots for you, hundred and twenty percent," your friend patted herself on the back.
You sighed, "That's ridiculous," before turning over to look at Sukuna for yourself.
And as your friend has said, he was already staring at you. He rested his head on his fist, and delivered a sultry look your way.
You cocked your head to the side, as if to say, what?
Sukuna mouthed back, you know what, before he lifted his head from his fist, and flipped you off.
Speechless, you gawked at the pink-haired man.
"He is so into you, girl."
"He is so not," you muttered, turning back to face your friend.
"But Y/N," she whined, "you guys are literally so cute together. Combining both of your genes will literally make the best babies."
"He's such an oaf, the most annoying man-child I've ever met," you rolled your eyes, before shaking your head.
At this point, Zoe just gave up on her matchmaking abilities, and rested her head on the desk beside yours.
All the while — across the classroom — Sukuna's twin brother, Yuuji, was no different from Zoe.
Yuuji wiggled his eyebrows at his older brother, "I see the way you look at her. Ooooh, does my cold-hearted brother have a crush?"
Sukuna glared down at Yuuji, who was making kissy faces and noises, "I should've eaten you in the womb."
Yuuji immediately dropped his act, "How dare you."
The rest of the class went by quickly; your friend said she had something to do so you just packed up your stuff.
Minutes after you left the room and entered the hallway, you were roughly pulled into what you assumed was a janitor's closet.
You heard the door lock behind you.
Even in the dark, you could still cleary make out two crimson eyes staring back at you.
"Sukuna. Why are we here?"
"Don't play dumb," he walked towards you as you kept on backing away, until your back met the wall. "God, you're so fucking annoying."
Your eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, and you saw Sukuna lean down towards you, your noses barely apart. Your breathing quickened.
"I can't stop thinking about you. You've been in my head all day," Sukuna narrowed his eyes at you.
"And just, what are you going to do that?"
Something snapped in Sukuna, he didn't even bother holding back.
You felt one of his hands roughly grip your waist, while the other tangled itself in your hair. He breathed in your scent; it was intoxicating for him.
He forced his lips onto you like an animal, before biting your bottom lip, drawing blood. You gasped, and he took the opportunity to shove his tongue inside.
This wasn't new to either of you, you've been in this little arrangement of yours for quite some time now. Albeit your friends know nothing of it; which is probably best.
"Sukuna," you giggled against his lips.
"Mm, you're so beautiful. Just can't get enough of you."
Your noses brushed against each other.
"Hah—" You found it hard to breathe.
Sukuna pulled your hair, emitting a squeal from you.
"Sukuna, please, I can't—" You felt tears sting your eyes, your mascara smeared over your cheeks.
He pressed his lips against yours, "Just for a little more. You can take that, right?"
You fervently nodded, although you felt a little dazed, and out of your mind.
The seconds passed by slowly, and the minutes passed by even slower, until Sukuna finally decided he was satisified.
He pulled away, and smirked to himself, looking at your half-lidded eyes, your mascara stained face, your lips stuck out in a pout. And as cocky as he was, Sukuna couldn't deny he was also out of breath.
Panting, you said, "You're such a jerk."
"Sure, sweetheart." Sukuna wiped your lipgloss off of his now shining lips.
"Serious, 'Kuna. You need to learn to let me breathe."
Sukuna rolled his eyes, "Pfft — as if you weren't the one provoking me."
You scoffed, and fixed your hair — or, well, attempted to, at least.
Sukuna adjusted his pants, and ruffled his unruly hair, before moving his hand to unlock the closet. You stood behind him in anticipation.
A beat passed.
"Well? What's taking you so long? Don't know how to unlock a door?" You teased, but when Sukuna didn't retaliate, you soon realized the direness of the situation at hand.
"It's not unlocking," Sukuna turned to face you, confusion mixed in his tone.
"I see that, dumbass," you muttered, sliding down the wall into a sitting position.
You were going to be here for a while.
What could you do to pass time?

Ayo its artifact grist dude again
Managed to get a copy of halo running on the xbox 360 (hilariously when i artifacted it it turned into a xcube 420)
So far its been the only game ive managed to get running without crashing instantly
Funny as fuck though, its like playing a bitcrushed version
At one point it replaced one of the levels with fucking anor londo from darksouls
Also had a level where inexplicably master chief complained about the lack of creativity in the game and was promptly struck by lightning and turned into a lego figure
Pretty funny! Gonna keep experimenting
The "360" in does usually turn into 420, but every blue moon, they say that it turns into a 369. This only applies to the 360 though, every other model turns into an Xbone. It kind of even looks like a femur, though that could just be the fact that Artifact items are painful to look at. Some "you cannot grasp the true form of" stuff.
But do keep on having fun! I can only imagine what it was like loading into Anor Londo from a first person perspective.

I think I kinda understand Darksouls/Bloodborne/Elden Ring/etc and their seemingly crazy fans. And I think I understand why I don't get into it like they do. To play a super hard and frustrating game, you need some sense of... ownership. Or at least I do. Feeling like this is your THING and if anyone is gonna do it, it's you. The only reason I achievement hunt in any game like WolfQuest or Empires of the Undergrowth, or I try completing every single thing in any Spyro game, is because those games are a part of my identity. I'm not really sure by what process this happens? The only commonality I've found between any game I've Become Gud at is that they're all somewhat unknown games and not many people even play them to true completion. I spent an entire 24 hours in WolfQuest just so I could be the first person to get that super hard trekking achievement on Steam (ended up being second... dammit lmao). Maybe I just don't like following the crowd. Maybe I just don't like my games to be super duper hard and I'm a little baby.
Idk I'd like some fans of these games to tell me about their experiences lmao.

game tier list twenty twenty two
2022 was the year of every video game being five or more video games at the same time. games were deckbuilding AND basebuilding AND roguelite AND fishing AND farmingsims. i don't think this worked out TOO well but i can see the appeal and i hope we can make a good one sometime!
game of the year 2022:
celeste!! the best and only video game. video, space, game. this is the peak of the genre, which is understandable because it is also the only game that exists.
it's just so FUN. like, first i play celeste as a vocation AND THEN when i'm exhausted i turn off celeste, sit for a sec, and think, "ah, time for some light fun. let's play a bit of celeste."
S tier (video games of all time)
mm rando ("Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask Randomizer, allsanity settings") this shit is so fun?? it's so fun. i will play this every year
inscryption ohhhhh man did someone have fun making this game and it SHOWS. some guy that i bet really likes and appreciates magic the gathering made a video game about: what if you played magic the gathering and it mattered SO MUCH. what if everything in your world was to enable you having a good and terrible time playing (original and realllly well-designed?) trading card games. and he was RIGHT and i had a good and terrible time
dwarf fortress!!! i first played dorf fort in 2012. i learned to play it alongside a guy i'd just met on study abroad because we were bored nerds. he is now my best friend. i have loved this game for TEN YEARS!! i once met derek yu (spelunky etcetera) at a very nice party and extremely embarrassingly trapped him in a conversation so i could talk about how good dwarf fortress is. he was very gracious and understandably uncomfortable. i like this game a LOT a lot. but, for every year i've loved dorf fort, i haven't really been able to recommend it to anyone. "hey, do you want to play a game that is so fucking hard and annoying to learn?" the answer is not usually "oh yeah for sure"
everything about the new UI-remake is good. they took the "impossible to learn" out of the sentence that i have so many times said, "this game is brilliant and enchanting and also impossible to learn." (the game is now fully "and also.") they did a good one.
A tier (delightful games)
elden ring my computer was too sad to keep playing this, and i am sad about that. it was GREAT, everything about it was as delightful as the darksoul and more. i can't wait to finish it (and probably give it s-tier) when computer good
fortnite they finally made a good battle royale and it is fortnite. good job i like my friends and this game is what i did with them a lot.
super mario sunshine perfect nintendo-y game. filled with little guys of all kinds. i will play this every year
the barnacle goose experiment horror abiogenesis autoclicker!!
sayonara wild hearts GOOOOD soundtrack good game
B tier (really fun games)
vampire survivors this is the most video game ever. i've heard it described as "the best video game of 2003." i've also heard the developer used to program gambling-machine animations. i would have played this on the school bus on the way to highschool. it rules
neon white really fun, zøooomy. i don't have the patience to find microoptimizations in levels to beat my friends, but DANG is playing each level for the first time fun. the writing was cringe AND free, it made me smile
C tier (games i liked)
citizen sleeper to paraphrase shannon: a dnd-videogame except for friends at the table enjoyers. i really liked that every choice felt limited but intentional, rather than disco's fuck-you kinda dice rolls. but, the sell was: "things… are happening. hmmmm what could they be?" which was not strong enough to keep me deeply invested. i'll keep going back and playing little by little
helltaker it's like eight minutes long and it's full of newgrounds drawings of demongirls. it's not a good game. i liked it a lot
D tier (games i did not like)
loop hero. backpack hero. slice and dice. dicey dungeons these are all the same game and they are all different variations of boring
cult of the lamb ANOTHER five-games-in-one that added up to… one-half of a good game? the fighting is like worse hades, the farming sim is like worse dontstarve. the minigames are ok. it was fine
subnautica LOVE a shark! but the game was brought down by the "you have to find a tiny item in a huge ocean and if you do not you cannot progress or you will miss major parts of the story" and also "find that tiny item on a short clock with constant danger." i ended up using the wiki, and shortly after ended up reading the plot because that was more fun than playing the lategame
however, many good moments of "oh wow yikes that's a fuckoff big shark huh" which i DID enjoy
death's door not a bad time but not for me. i think i'd rather play tunic (i haven't played tunic)
F tier (i hate it)
deathloop THEY BIOSHOCK-POISONED THIS GAME SO BAD
the concept of a majora's-mask-plus-dishonored-problem-solving-shooter? quite good. this game? really sucks. this game is the sum of every boring-but-sells lesson internalized by marketing departments on the success of "the genius of environmental storytelling," but instead of genuinely funny bits (like left4dead2's graffiti!), they went for an utterly bland "THIS UTOPIA? DIDN'T WORK OUT HUH"
also the core mechanic just wasn't very fun, was it, it just didn't work. they made it a pretty good fps and also a ~nothing else~
the upside was the art direction which: was good enough to do environmental storytelling with! it makes me mad that some goooood art got wasted on this game
hon. mentions
madness in square garden, for having a good name watching someone else play outer wilds
