trying to put some thoughts together before new chapter (its just what I can get of the top of my head, but most stuff is always in my comments)

finally caught up with glass after summer, it took me quite a while bc im bad at reading emotional stuff, I read a bit, get overwhelmed with emotions, close it, go back, unintentionally skim read forward, get overwhelmed again, go back and try and read it properly, repeat many times lmao

it was so fun to read tho

with them actually having a plan now its easier to realise that the end is getting near, but it still feels like yesterday when glass started

overthrowing schlatt sounds exciting I the more I think about it the more and more scared I get

first off theres obviously the vision, which seems to be happening in the palace and to me is implying that wilbur was supposed to be with tommy and lost him in the chaos

which gets even worse when you factor in tommys curse

and they are very dependent on eret whose character has a reputation with traitors (im betting on them being "afraid" of visions and the fact it wont really gain then anything I can think of, but its always a possibility)

and than we got techno looking at the deathlings and taking that as a reassurment that they wont be kissing any royal asses is making me think if thats true

now in glass most of the deathlings are pretty anarchistic in nature or at least wont settle for not being outlawed anymore

but if you just took a group of outlaws who are trying to survive and had someone make them not illegal anymore there are definitely some that would just take the ability to live normally and not try to fight for anarchy anymore

also not being outlawed doesnt mean people wont discriminate anymore

and ofc as techno is saying theyre fighting government with another government, who knows what position theyll end up in

BUT, all of that doesnt feel like its actually still part of this story, bc this is still wilburs story, not the deathlings'

(not really affecting anything, but what if new people will want to join, thats a possibility, tho I have no idea how that would work)

now im not saying I think they shouldnt do anything (dont think thats even a possibility with the collapse the country is experiencing), closed in the temple and having to steal to survive, always hunted, thats barely living, but it just feels more safe, more familiar, easier (in reality thats me living in denial bc wilbur is safe from being forced into a role in there)

yeah this whole invasion plan has a lot of things that can go wrong. the vision, the curse, eret, the deathlings being anarchists- what's it gonna be? something's gotta give lol

the deathlings would be in a very strange spot if the coup goes according to plan and death worship is legalized once again. what will they even be classified as then? because they're not just a religious group, they are an organized political activist (and terrorist) group at the same time and that's not exactly something they're just going to brush aside. but like you pointed out, thats the deathling's story, not wilbur's.

okay humanstuck thoughts under the cut

i owe a lot of this to @/rhythmic-idealist's kankri/vantasposting bc holy shit theyve got such a big brain (ill link to their individual posts when im on desktop since im using this to keep all my thoughts straight and i agree with most of what they say wholeheartedly)

general status quo stuff:

signless works in an extremely demanding career involving helping others (i'm leaning towards an attorney who works with organizations and does pro bono work), and is also extensively involved in social justice work outside of his job... he is very rarely home

he loves and cares for his children deeply and tries to express it whenever they're face to face, but the couch in his cramped and messy office has seen far too much use over the years for him to have been able to say it enough

his habits of working himself to the point of exhaustion are handily passed down to his kids btw

the kids had to grow up quickly because signless was out of the house so often and so consistently—kankri, who was already pretty high-strung, has to learn to take care of himself and karkat

they grow up near ms firuzeh maryam, who's their pseudoaunt/grandma (she took in a nine year old kavana vantas when she was about twenty), but they just call her ms rosa

they spent a lot of time in the maryam house growing up, with miss rosa's two nieces. porrim is a year older than kankri, while kanaya and karkat are the same age

kankri grows kinda sensitive to people trying to mother him since it rubs against the notion that he's the "adult of the house" and that he can take care of himself and karkat just fine

(and it also kinda underlines the fact that kankri has no idea what he's doing at the best of times)

and ironically enough, kankri becomes overbearing and naggy towards karkat in his own right, which forestalls them becoming close in any brotherly sort of way

they grow up really just... unable to communicate with one another clearly

karkat develops his ornery exterior in response to kankri's constant stream of opinions and frantic attempts at making up for the presence of a guardian in the house

i think there would actually be some really interesting parallels with rose in this au.. maybe i'm drawing from my own experiences as well but i think he'd begin to assume that every time his brother opens his mouth, he's going to criticize karkat

but instead of reacting like rose with the "making yourself more of a puzzle"/passive aggressive stuff, he gets a more defensive/hackles raised/"argue with you before you can argue with me" approach

and the thing is that they do love each other and would take a bullet for the other etc etc etc.. but they don't know how to express it because they've fallen into these shitty patterns

and it really doesn't help that kankri has grown somewhat resentful of signless over the years... that mix of resentment and fear and love gets more extreme and more polar every time signless gets injured during a political demonstration

i think kankri and signless would also be slightly closer than karkat and signless, as signless' job really only started to ramp up when karkat was less than years old and kankri was in his early double digits

kankri autistic btw its word of god (i am god)

karkat has a pet crab. its name is also karkat. he vents his frustrations to it.

i feel like the vantases exemplify both the best and worst parts of their aspects with one another as well... the strength of their bonds keeps them together and grounded, but TOO grounded. [insert Blood rant here]

the Blood rant:

i define Blood as bonds, responsibility, and the "core". if Life is the fertile soil and everything living on a planet's surface, then Blood is the gravitational core of the planet keeping everything together

i also think Blood, Heart, & Mind work in tandem to define a person just as blood serves to connect the pieces of the human body... Heart is the soul and the self, Mind is the application of one's self through active choices (agency), while Blood defines both the self and the choices one makes in greater detail [and, as an aside, Life provides the physical spark of life needed to keep the heart pumping blood]

OKAY wow that got tangential anyways

SO BASICALLY! too much Blood makes you stagnate, so for example:

kankri is split between staying home with karkat or going to college across the country and being truly unbound for the first time in years

another crisis of Blood: signless is caught between his empathy and responsibility to the whole world and his responsibility to his own children

okay so here's more status quo stuff:

the maryam and vantas kids grow up together and its hilarious because you'll see them all together and its just like (girlboss) (girlboss) (physical manlet) (emotional manlet)

the maryam girls are actually miss rosa's nieces but she took them in when they were both pretty young

the pyropes know the vantases well enough considering pyrope senior and sign have known one another from their respective legal practices for years, but they live on the other side of town

the leijons lived in town when kankri and meulin were very young, but they moved and travelled for a long time before coming back and reestablishing their roots

the captors (psii being one of sign's oldest and closest friends) move into town with the peixes family pretty early on though

the condesce is.. a horrible spouse and guardian, to put it plainly. she's very emotionally manipulative and isn't averse to smacking people around, including her own family. she moves herself and her perfect little family into town so she can properly oversee a new business venture close by

feferi is one of the best young swimmers in the country and has a pretty good shot of getting onto the olympic team.. a lot of this drive to be perfect and to be better results from the condesce's unrelenting pressure and thinly veiled resentment throughout her whole life

so yeah psii, )(ic, feferi, and sollux all live together and it's really not great for anyone involved. (meenah ran away years ago, and crashed on aranea's couch for a pretty long while—mituna moved out with latula for college before psii and the condesce got married)

it gets bad to the point of sollux staying with the maryams for two months while the adults try to sort out that absolute clusterfuck and get the divorce proceedings going (meenah finally convinces feferi to get out and come stay with her and aranea for the duration as well)

in terms of relationships i think latula and porrim were really really close in high school, and probably had some kind of unacknowledged thing going on for a while that never actually turned into anything because latula and mituna were going steady

kankri has had a crush on latula for years but never acted on it for similar reasons

meenah still carries a lot of that give no fucks attitude (it's developed moreso as a defense mechanism here) and can't understand why feferi refuses to leave the condesce with her

okay back to VANTAS MANPAIN i also think that karkat feels the weight of a lot of expectations on his shoulders as well

he feels responsible to live up to the example his dad and his brother set, even if it's to his own detriment—and kankri's oblivious rambling about his grades and his teachers and all his clubs certainly aren't helping the matter

kankri is one of those overinvolved kids taking a million AP's while simultaneously shitting on the collegeboard at every single step

hes this super overachiever anal retentive perfectionist type dude and (just as karkat preemptively criticizes others to forestall their criticisms of him only to harshly criticize himself) kankri subconsciously holds the people around him to the same expectations he holds for himself

so karkat also develops this sense of lacking which, in combination with everything else, culminates in self loathing and thinking he has to solve everyone else's problems and getting horribly mad at himself for every little mistake

GOD i have a lot more but lemme post this before i accidentally close out of the app and lose it all

more little details:

vriska's mom and terezi's mom HATE each other like HATE HATE HATE one another it's so bad

karkat wrote a ten page review of my immortal in middle school

jade is one of nepeta's best online friends

sollux can't raise one eyebrow at a time.. karkat gives him so much grief about it

the vantases eat a lot of shitty renditions of persian dishes until karkat learns to cook because literally the only person in the world with a CHANCE of getting KANKRI VANTAS to make an EDIBLE DISH is miss rosa

kanaya is really good at persian dance too but is VERY VERY embarassed to perform in front of people.. however porrim definitely is not

karkat has insomnia while kankri just stays up stupidly late for assignments that really shouldnt be taken that seriously.. but they both have the same rumination/sleep anxiety thing where your brain goes insane with horrible and depressing scenarios as you try to sleep

and more ideas that i thought were interesting but idk how to fit in the context of this au:

signless and disciple getting married pretty late in life after having been in love for years, the vantases move in with the leijons and karkat suddenly has two sisters

nepeta and karkat are both juniors at this point, meulin is probably in her third year at a local college nearby while kankri is about to start his second year at a university pretty far away

the kids in general honestly but ill figure it out

more random hcs this time with kids:

kanaya and rose get into a flame war online that gradually settles into elaborate courtship rituals

also nepeta + jade online besties

also bec can inexplicably still teleport

the first sbahj movie comes out and the next six months of dave strider junior's high school career are absolute hell

actually hc that dave senior goes by d strider professionally. the d stands for a lot of things

aradia and dave frequent a lot of the same forums but never end up really interacting

meanwhile karkat and john frequent a lot of the same forums and DEFINITELY end up interacting. this turns into grudging (at least on karkat's part) friendship after they find themselves fighting for their lives defending an objectively shitty movie together on the same thread

i have some feelings about how people treat age (i am thirty for complete transparency) and its ~nuanced~ but not really as nuanced as people think it is? these are my perspectives as a 30 year old survivor and educator. this is kind of rambly and doesnt have a conclusion, i just wanted to get it out of my head.

lets talk maturity like adults, especially those over the age of 21, have enough experience to know that their feelings and mindsets are vastly different than that of someone who is 15, 16, or even 17 or 18. i still remember what it felt like to be 12, i still remember what it felt like to be 15, and i still remember what it felt like to be 17, 20, 25...and honestly i wouldnt go back lmao. im MUCH more mature today than i was then.

the older you are the more life experience you have to know what is and isnt right. you learn how to deal with people simply because youve had more time to do so. in that sense, the older an adult is, the more of an ‘edge’ theyre going to have over a minor. so you can never have an equal relationship because you just know too much. 

on the other hand, i think theres this stigma against older people that goes beyond looking out for childrens well beings and goes right into ageism. i have this theory that most people have no idea what a 30 year old is supposed to look like. most people assume im in my early 20s for a bunch of reasons...either its my looks or my interests or whatever but i think there is this narrative that someone over the age of 30 must be married, popping out children, buying a house, working on their career, and definitely not doing silly things on the internet. 30 year olds are ‘serious.’ ‘mature.’ something that simply does not apply to me as a personality trait, but because time has passed i have to BECOME another person....i dont get that.

in my professional life i have a lot of contact with teenagers. i talk to my teenage students like theyre adults because i dont think theyre idiots. i feel like a lot of my colleagues tend to treat teens like zoo animals rather than taking their jobs seriously. educators are part of a childs education process. we help form who you are, whether we like it or not, so giving you age appropriate responsibilities (within reason, i also hate assigning lots of busywork homework) is part of our job. teens say dumb things because theyre teens but also i remember that once i had a fucking meltdown in english class when i was 14 because i got a B+ on a quiz and said i was going to work at burger king forever and my teacher actually reassured me in her own comedic way. so yeah, i remember being overdramatic and annoying too so i cant be critical of my students for that.

while i think the age dynamic between a teenager and an adult is something to take more seriously than some people online would like to, i also see a lot of full grown adults in their early 20s pretending that anyone over 30 is a corpse. it goes back to what i said about that narrative....30 is not the end of your life. in fact, i felt my life was just beginning once i turned 30. i spent most of my 20s in and out of mental hospitals and in treatment, learning how to function, and towards my late 20s i finally became a teacher and found that it was a fundamentally vital part of my recovery. but the ‘best years of my life’ aka my teen years and early 20s were all spent trapped in abusive relationships and processing trauma. now that im older, i feel i can finally start living.

maybe its because of my experiences but i really resent being told that im old just because im 30. im only five years older than some of these people who are like ‘dni if youre 30+!’.... like you are 25 years old there is no significant age gap or power differential between us??? do you think that once you turn 30 you stop liking anime and become some kind of sexually predatory liability towards....people in their mid to late 20s? 

the reason we talk about age is because adults, all adults, need to respect children and teens at their particular stage of development. i know teenagers hate being told theyre not fully mature yet but you arent fully mature yet. you arent adults. even if you were, you simply dont have that much life experience. its fine not to know everything. and there are people who know more than you who will try to use what they know against you. thats why discussion age dynamics is so important. because childhood developmental stages are a thing really even up until youre in your early 20s (but at that point it doesnt matter AS MUCH because once youre legally an adult you have more legal rights than you do as a child, as sad as that is).

i think a lot of this antagonism against people over 30 is that society generally values youth, which is pretty silly because society also gives children and teens little to no legal recourse. so there is this distinct antagonism there. youth is valuable perhaps BECAUSE of its capacity for exploitation. once youre older, you know better, and thus you cannot be so easily fooled. and thus, as a result, we all believe turning 30 means youre a dried up useless husk, because your buying power isnt as useful. your beauty (if you are a woman) is worthless because only barely legal teens are acceptable in a society that highly values youth....and we should maybe unpack that because thats highly uncomfortable isnt it? your reproductive capacity is worthless because biased scientists have told us that if you have a child over 40 you are GUARANTEED to produce DEFECTIVE CHILDREN!!!! its backed up by SCIENCE!!!! science says older women are useless and shouldnt have children!! even though we live in a world where genetic counseling exists and we can easily navigate those risks...but no, science says.

i kind of liked this scene because it shows us the hong ye-shao fei sibling rivalry dynamic - challenging, but healthy challenging rather than heated, harsh barbs aimed to murder each other

okay at this point: we can CONFIRM more or less that the person on the photo isn’t glasses guy Dao Yi, because right after hong ye and shao fei leaves, tang yi is very friendly and warm towards dao yi: “if you won’t promise her, you can’t blame her for treating you like this”

it ends there - so GUYS we know we have the shooting tmr and hong ye’s shady scene, i really don’t think hong ye is evil at this point, but she could be doing something she thinks is in tang yi’s and the organization’s best interests, but is doing more harm than good - during the earlier scene in the ep w her and dao yi, dao yi mentions that she shouldnt be so concerned with how other ppl will view Xing Tian Meng and whether they would wanna do business with them because their company and the organization is all legal and clean now, so there’s no matter - but then hong ye replies: “that’s only when we’re FULLY legal and clean, not now” - it’s strange that she would make such a distinction, so i guess she is doing something shady but not totally evil, and my take is that when shao fei gets hurt for it, she feels guilty

A simple gal’s thoughts on pregnancy..abortions.. the whole shebang.

Some backstory: I grew up in an Asian household. My parents aren’t like crazy conservative or anything but still...if I were to wound up pregnant they’d kick me out. I’d like to think of myself as an intersectional feminist. I’ve taken multiple gender studies classes throughout the years and I’m planning on getting into women’s rights law. So... here’s my take on pregnancy, abortions and the whole shebang. I wrote this after a few months of hell which includes me stressing out about the possibility of being pregnant.. see my period has always been irregular but after having been sexually active, I can’t help but think that I'd fucked up somehow. (Also, my apologies for any grammar mistakes, etc cos this was written on the iPhone note app). 

Thought process:

I feel like I shouldnt have to stay up all night stressing about a possible pregnancy or literally skip meals and spend hella money on tests to calm my nerves..or hide the fact that im purchasing contraceptives and shit from my parents. I feel like this society that I live in (particularly my household) breeds an illogical fear of sex and its consequence: pregnancy. It’s so unfair because as girls we are obviously by nature already inferior to the male species. For example, we get paid less and we get slut-shamed/objectified/restricted by gender stereotypes every single fucking day and now we have to stress about SOMETHING THAT IS A NORMAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE AND SAFE SEX!! Having SAFE sex doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. And it’s not bad for your body either. GETTING AN ABORTION DOESNT MEAN U R A BAD PERSON. 

Its already unfair that I, as a woman, have to face the consequences of sex.. in which a man does not. I should still be allowed to get an abortion if I’ve exhausted all my resources into making sure that i am engaging in safe sex. I shouldnt have to sit here worrying about what society, what my parents or what people would think of me of i were pregnant because what? Because someway somehow the condom on the penis that isnt attached to my fucking body broke? Like its so stupid that if something were to go wrong when im engaging in safe sex, the man would be able to walk away unscathed while i will have to deal with the consequences. It would be fine if society has evolved to the point where people would help women with those consequences.. but sadly we arent there yet. So it’s so unfair that if i were to get pregnant, i’d literally have to get an abortion in secret and my parents would most definitely disown me. Even though I engaged in safe sex. Sex at any age (granted once ure legal) IS FINE AS LONG AS IT IS SAFE AND IT IS RESPONSIBLE. BUt mistakes can happen. People make mistakes all the time...that is WHY WE ARE HUMANS. And people should be able to have second chances. And no matter what that means (whether it means GETTING an abortion or NOT getting one) it is a woman’s own choice to decide because IT IS HER FUCKING BODY. I hate how this society has literally made me so stressed about this and it upsets me because I know if I were to end up pregnant, the ones that I love the most would not be there for me. My parents would not be there for me. And thats what scares me the most.

2. i have no idea what this woman is talking about in regards to code types, perhaps insurance codes for treatment standards? a reference code for finding articles related to hpd? a legal think idk about? couldnt say but i can say that she doesnt know either. Most of the other statements from this are generalizations beyond the scope of the diagnosis and shouldnt be attributed to hpd but instead an individual. Or they are miss attributed to hpd. This person doesnt known whats going on so they are inaccurately regurgitating what they hear from the tv.

3. CAPS -5 is designed to be used to, diagnose, track or similarly "measure" ptsd. It is intended to be used by mental health clinicians but can be used by paraprofessionals and those without mental health specalties, but some knowledge and experience of mental health disorders is necessary to give an accurate score. A score can only indicate the likley hood of a person having PTSD, which is true of all such questionnaires. A person can have a score indicating sever ptsd, and not have ptsd or can have a low score with ptsd as mental health disorders have a varied and broad range of expressions and different cultures and individuals might express the dame disorders differently. It is necessary for evaluation by somone who knows wtf they are talking about in order to determine the legitimcy of the results. this sort of questionnaire is good to determine relative progress within a disorder and could be used to evidence a diagnosis in court but its still pretty ignorant and stupid to claim it as irrefutable when its so arguable

I thought about this ask for a few days trying to come up with something interesting to say, but I’m not sure I have much to contribute. You make two very good and distinct points here, and this is my attempt at finding an answer for you.

1) Is it legit to kill monsters at all? In a way, I’d have to say no, it isn’t. In the very beginning, there was almost this vibe - hunting was presented like hunting animals, you know? So not murder, but putting down pests. Except that, of course, Dean is not very appreciative of ‘normal’ hunters, and we soon learn that monsters may not be human, but they’re still complex creatures with feelings, free will and an individual agenda. Also, not all of them are necessarily bad. Under those circumstances, what you say is true. If we’re talking ‘world is actually full of monsters’ approach, I much prefer what True Blood did with it - the premise, right, was the vampires wouldn’t hurt people because of the discovery of artificial blood, which allowed the whole thing to become about racism and prejudice rather than revolve around the ‘heroic quest’ trope. Supernatural, of course, is telling a different story. The starting point here is the very popular ‘lonesome hero is forced to act outside the law to bring justice to the land’ model which has been around since forever (you could even argue that the story of Promotheus fits this mould) and which is particularly appreciated and utilized in the United States for obvious (Wild West-related) reasons. Personally, I’m always a bit wary if this trope, but it’s hard to avoid it because it’s still everywhere, and I do appreciate some modern reworkings of it - for instance, I’m still seeing beautiful Civil War metas crossing my dash every other week, and I think it’s good we can discuss this kind of things. Now, you could argue Sam and Dean should do more to escape the trope - it’s not inconceivable, even in their world, to bring the supernatural out in the open, and it does bother me that the idea never came up again - especially after we learned that monsters themselves are way more organized and efficient and secretive than we assumed. Like, good job on bringing down that creepy-ass ebay site, but how many more like that are out there? Is it really possible that Victor Henriksen was the only FBI agent who noticed anything amiss, and the only one who cared enough to investigate? But, well, it’s very likely that Supernatural’s basic format is never going to change (although, I was intrigued by that conversation at the end of A Most Holy Man - I often speculated that the only way to end this show would be to get rid of all the monsters, so Sam and Dean could get out of the life without feeling guilty - the fact they’re going there, or at least wondering if it’s even possible, is really satisfying), which means that the only way to even begin to watch the show is to accept its premise: that this is a lawless world, and Sam and Dean have some sort of right to administer justice. This is why I’m not opposed to them taking hard decisions and killing monsters instead of, say, arresting them (how would they even had a trial?). The (un)spoken rule, however, is that you don’t kill for personal gain - you kill killers. You kill dangerous things who prey on humans. That’s the job. So when they use their skill and knowledge to do something else - that’s problematic, and it should, in my opinion, be framed as such. Donatello’s death is a prime example of this (Cas even said, a bit shiftily, that there wouldn’t be a new prophet until the current one died, and even if Sam and Dean got all frowny, in the end that’s exactly what happened - they got rid of a person who was useless to them and now, as a bonus, they’ll probably get another prophet who’ll be all new and shiny and soulful and uncorrupted), but there are others. For instance, half of Tombstone was exceedingly creepy and yet framed as okay. What we saw there was a world where policemen use a different standard depending on who was murdered, and openly act against the rule of law when it suits them - and, crucially, Dean went along with all of this. Compare and contrast with Folsom Prison Blues, which aggressively questioned whether men who’d been sentenced to prison time were less ‘worthy’ to be saved than other people (if memory serves, Sam initially thought they shouldn’t bother protecting inmates, while Dean, our moral compass and POV characters, vehemently disagreed). You see the shift in perspective there? That’s what I’m objecting to. In earlier seasons, we had way more problematic plot points, but they were acknowledged as such and widely debated. Now, not so much.

2) As for Cas’ role in all this - I agree with you, but I can’t understand why, exactly, this is happening. I think that on one hand, Cas is definitely regressing to his angelic self - in earlier seasons, there was a lot of effort devoted to showing him learning what being human was about, but it’s been a while since the show’s been interested in that. Instead, we’re now getting someone who’s more similar to the old Cas - someone who acts alone, doesn’t consult Sam and Dean, makes decisions ‘for the greater good’ (even if, at this point, that has shifted to ‘keeping the Winchesters alive’), doesn’t understand humans all that well and doesn’t even bother trying to because he sees himself as a distinct creature. All of this is - legit, narratively speaking, but also sounds a bit or a lot hollow because it sort of comes out of nowhere. Cas has been asked for years and years whether he’s a human or an angel or what, and apparently he’s now come to a conclusion and we missed the significant moment when that happened? My opinion, as you may know already because I’m old and salty and I repeat myself a lot, is that this reversion back to angelhood has little to do with Cas himself and more to do with getting out of the Destiel mess and giving more narrative focus to Sam and Dean. So the fact that any decision he makes is automatically dodgy or weird (or presented as such), well - that’s part of it. Another part, which, if it’s possible, annoy me even more, is that there’s been a ‘wholesomisation’ of Sam and Dean which I find uninteresting and badly executed. Because if you think about it - of course, these are our heroes, but we used to see the worst of them quite openly. And that worst wasn’t explained away or ignored - it was examined in painful detail. Now, however, it’s like they can do no wrong, not even when they’re objectively doing something wrong (I’m still not over Dean threatening Kaia, for instance, or Mary’s unexplicable choice to work with the BMoL after they’d literally kidnapped and tortured her son). Sure, we do get a line here and there about how ‘I’m not perfect but that’s okay’, but to me, that’s not nearly enough. Like, I don’t give a shit if you’re double-crossing a mafia boss to get Saint Ignatius’ blood, Dean - the real problem is you wanting to open a rift between worlds in the first place without even bothering to think of the consequences. See how dishonest the narrative is? They give us a hero who’s clearly doing a Pretty Good and Definitely Forgivable thing and they have him justifying it so we’ll coo and tell him that of course we don’t care he’s not perfect - he’s perfect to us. By highlighting something that’s not a problem at all, they make us forget all those other things that actually are problematic. So the fact Cas is the one messing up and making morally questionable choices is almost a necessity and definitely fits in with this new idea that Sam and Dean can do no wrong, because if all of our heroes were paragons of virtue all the time, there would be no story. Or, well - there would be a boring one.
