I truly, 100% believe that Karezi was supposed to be an endgame ship and that something happened towards the end of Homestuck that made Andrew Hussie switch directions. I think he was burnt out of writing the story by the end and just kind of did whatever. There is just no other explanation for the way things went down. Why else would he make Davekat one of the only canon endgame ships?? You cannot tell me that this was something that had been planned.

Hey this post is a rambling about how Terezi’s self esteem and depression have effected her romantic relationships so if you aren’t really down for that keep moving my friend. Anyways I was reading Terezi’s message to Vriska before (s) REMEM8ER and not to dig up old news but this kind of distraction she talks about really makes sense in the context of her relationships. When she was given the opportunity to tell her past self anything it was “you don’t need him” and because if it she doesn’t end up with Karkat, Dave, or Gamzee. Thinking about Terezis character now all her relationships were distractions. They were all the most distracting characters available to her. Karkat was loud and had an obvious crush on her that would definitely take her mind off of her self issues. He flattered and entertained her and it would have made her feel better. I remember something that drove Karezi shippers crazy was the mystery of what exactly happened to their relationship. Most of us assumed that Terezi simply became irritated with his pushy jealous nature, or that she developed a crush on Dave ending her potential feelings for Karkat. But what exactly did happen? I’m not Andrew Hussie so I can’t say for sure but Id be willing to bet money that it has everything to do with Terezi’s self esteem. Karkat was entertaining, but the reality of a relationship was never going to happen without Terezi having to actually open up. Karkat wanted a domestic relationship with communicating and comforting each other (which he presumably has now with Dave (and maybe jade??)) and Terezi can’t do that. Karkat wants to put her on a pedestal and make her happy, and she just wants to escape the crushing reality of her own mind. Then Dave comes along. He is just as distracting, they share the same odd humor, and he is completely emotionally fucked off. In a fucked up way they were perfect for each other. Daverezi fell head over heels with all the seriousness of a relationship but they hung on to their own baggage. However when Dave is taken from the toxic environment of his Bro he begins to get better. Most of their relationship is off screen, and it’s hard to say exactly what happened. My best guess is as Dave begun to unpack his bags and Terezi got apprehensive, for the same reasons as before. She needs the distraction from herself and the thing with romantic relationships is you eventually have to unpack or move on. She can’t unpack, Daverezi falls apart, and she’s left with the worst distraction in the form of Gamzee. We all know what happens here, and there are a multitude of reasons Terezi had so much trouble leaving. The distraction from herself, her own half whole feeling, is the driver. In a way it would be her most effective distraction yet, as her hatred for Gamzee would nearly completely cancel out her hatred of herself. Gamzee was like a substance abuse to her, and she had so much trouble getting away. But Gamzee spirals her destructive tendencies until she has to face them, and then she’s left at her lowest point. By the time she decides its time to face it the events of (s) game over unfold, and near everyone is dead. By helping John she is able to realize that she is not helpless and meeting up with a changed Vriska in death she is ready to start fresh. Alive Terezi however never reaches that bottom, and she is left in a platonic relationship with Vriska as a distraction. While helpful to Terezi’s depression, Vriska would never force her to face the reality of her self esteem issues like a romantic relationships would. She would boost her confidence, tell her to shut up and accept that she’s fucking great, and i’m sure she would come up with something hilarious to get Terezi’s mind off of it. It also helps that this Terezi doesn’t live with the guilt of killing her sister. This Terezi is aware of her feelings, aware of her tendency to attach herself to a distraction, but the fact that she’s still out searching for Vriska says that she isnt doing anything to help herself yet.

What Your Homestuck Ship says about you

Rosemary: You did it. The only solid 100% no ambiguity about it ship to make it to endgame. A wedding, a happily ever after, a decent amount of screen time and development; other ships wish they had what you had.

DirkJake: One of the few "big kisses" in the comic. You breath a sigh of relief that it never officially sunk and you hope they work through their problems.

DaveKat: You enjoy friends to lovers plots and that satisfaction that you ended strongly.

DaveJade: You had almost given up hope only for a small bone to be thrown at you at the comic’s end.

GamKar: There is a duality to you like Gamzee’s faces :o( and :o). You’re either happy for the touching moments or frustrated with how it was handled. Much like the enigmatic clown himself.

GamTav: The term cinnamon role is perhaps overused... but not to you. No matter what relationship dynamic you like, Tavros will always be one.

SolKat: One’s grouchy, and the other’s... also grouchy! Winning sitcom formula! Frustratingly little Post Act 5 interaction!

AraSol: You are hopeful. For all that’s happened in this hell comic, you are hopeful.
