PATINA MILLER AS “RAQUEL THOMAS” FROM RAISING KANAN x BLACK!FEM!OC
SUMMARY: in which Simone & Raquel were toxic to each other and ended on bad terms because of this, but when Raq hears about her having someone else, she decides to pay Simone a visit. ✨ | partially inspired by this tiktok 🤣
𝗦𝗜𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗘 stood in the dressing room of "Chocolate City" — the strip club she worked at — as she adjusted her outfit, taking her time to analyze her appearance while she fiddled with her skirt.
it wasn't time for her to go on stage yet, but she still wanted to look her best for the time being.
the woman flipped her ass-length black box braids out of her face as the door to the dressing room opened, revealing one of her coworkers and friends Destiny — who was known as "Rubi" on stage due to her signature red color that was displayed in her outfits.
"you know you not due on stage for anotha' 30 minutes, right?" Destiny asked, raising a brow, as Simone nodded her head and let out a soft chuckle.
"Divine always gotta' stay ready, boo. you know that." Simone smirked, referencing her stage name, as she playfully smacked her own ass and Destiny laughed at her before shaking her head.
"stayin' ready fa' Raquel, huh?" Destiny joked, smirking widely, as Simone smacked her lips and her posture stiffened, her face scrunching up at the sound of that woman's name while Destiny guffawed at the change in her demeanor.
to keep it brief: Raquel and Simone used to be a thing, and their fling was as toxic as ever. there would be lots of arguing, lots of breaking up, and lots of making up — until one day, the making up stopped and the two never reconciled again.
Simone had no problem with the business Raquel ran and honestly tried her best not to be involved in it, despite often being questioned by Detective Burke and other officers about her involvement with Raq. but once they stopped speaking, Simone deaded everything between them. she stopped speaking to her, stopped returning her calls, and just started avoiding her as much as she could whenever she was out, which included ignoring her brothers, but she still spoke to her son and her niece whenever she saw them.
Simone could no longer stay in that toxic environment anymore, and with the police constantly spying on her and trying to "catch" her doing something illegal, that just made it worse. so she did what she thought was best and left the environment for good.
but knowing Raq, Simone knew there was only a matter of time before she tried to weasel her way back into her life, and she'd be gullible enough to fall for it.
"i ain't mean to kill ya high, girl, c'mon! come get a drink wit' me!" Destiny giggled as she grabbed Simone's hand and led her to the door while Simone secretly mugged the girl behind her back.
"yeah, you owe me one after bringin' that shit up."
"...then that bitch had the nerve to push me, girl, i was 'bout to bash her muh'fuckin' head in, she clearly ain't know who she was fuckin' wit'!" Destiny scoffed, recounting an interaction with one of their coworkers that happened when Simone was off, as she shook her head and Simone chuckled while taking a sip of her drink.
"i'm tellin' you, Des', bitches around here always fuck with bitches who they know can beat they ass just for a lil' bit of street cred'. they don't fool me wit' that shit, i'on play that fuck shit," Simone chuckled, pushing a few of her braids behind her shoulder, as "I'm Still Waiting" by Jodeci began to play in the club and Simone raised a brow, shaking her head before scoffing, "outta' all the songs, why the DJ play this shit? c'mon now, man."
"must be a sign, babygirl." Destiny winked, making Simone mug her, as Destiny laughed and Simone chugged her drink, slamming the glass down like a shot glass while she cleared her throat.
❝ IT'S BEEN SO LONG SINCE I TOUCHED A LADY, AND I'M STILL WAITING FOR YOU TO COME BACK TO ME, BABY. ❞
"i'm 'bout to get pissed off," Simone mumbled, making Destiny burst out laughing, as Simone turned to Eleanor — the bartender — and gently pushed her glass toward her, "refill, please, Ellie."
"before you get that refill, lemme' holla' at you real quick, Simone." a familiar voice called out as Destiny nearly caught whiplash turning around and her eyes locked on Raquel, making her laughter intensify while she nudged Simone with her elbow.
"Raq', i ain't got shit to say to you—"
"well, i got a lot to say to you. so, bring ya ass on." Raquel interrupted the woman as Simone raised a brow and looked back at her, looking her up and down before scoffing.
"i'll be back, y'all." Simone mumbled, making Destiny smirk, as Simone side-eyed Destiny and mugged her before hopping off the stool, adjusting her skirt on her ass before walking behind Raquel.
as soon as the two walked out of the door, Raquel grabbed Simone by the arm and pushed her up against her white truck, making Simone's eyebrows furrow while she looked between Raquel's firm grip and dark eyes.
"Raq', if you don't get—"
"stop callin' me that, Simone, you know i hate that shit," Raquel demanded, her voice as firm as her grip on Simone's arm, "the streets been talkin' lately. and they been tellin' me you fuckin' with somebody else. that true?"
"as if that's any of your business." Simone mumbled, rolling her eyes, as Raquel chuckled and let go of her arm, gripping her neck instead and resting her thumb on her chin to lift her head.
"it is my fuckin' business, the fuck you talkin' 'bout? you foreva' gon' be my girl, Simone, get that shit through yo' thick ass skull," Raquel growled, leaning in closer to the girl, as Simone folded her lips together and looked into the woman's eyes, seeing nothing but anger and slight lust, "but since you got muh'fuckin' amnesia all of a sudden, i'll happily remind you of who the fuck you belong to."
"R-Raquel!" Simone cried, her thighs beginning to burn while she rode the strap, as Raquel wrapped her hand around Simone's neck and yanked her head up before it could fall back.
"uh-uh. look at me, Simone,"  Raquel demanded, lightly slapping the girl's face, as Simone whimpered and her low eyes locked with Raquel's fiery ones, "you think you can just go around givin' my shit away? huh? you thought i wasn't gon' hear about that shit? you must take me for a dumb muh'fucka', don't you?"
to tell the truth, Simone did start talking to someone new not too long ago. did they have sex yet? unfortunately, yes — and i say "unfortunately" because they were ultimately not good enough in bed — definitely not as good as Raq — and didn't fully satisfy Simone's needs, which led her to regret opening up her legs in the first place.
did Simone know Raq would find out? of course, she did — solely because Raquel finds out everything.
"you belong to me. your body belongs to me. and you better believe that pussy belongs to me too, Simone. so, don't fuckin' play mind games wit' me and think i won't find out about the shit you do," Raquel growled as she began to thrust up into Simone from underneath her, "you think my guys still don't keep tabs on you? on where you been? on where you at? on who you been wit' and where y'all been? huh?"
"R-Raquel—"
"shut the fuck up when i'm talkin'," Raquel grumbled, roughly slapping her ass and leaving her handprint behind, as Simone bit down on her bottom lip to keep her eyes from rolling back, "matta' fact, tell me who you gave my pussy to since you wanna talk when i'm talkin'. use that pretty lil' mouth, Simone."
Simone went quiet, her teeth digging deeply into her bottom lip and almost drawing blood from it, as Raquel glared at her and began thrusting at a quicker and rougher rate, her eyes narrowing in slight irritation while she stared at the brown-skinned girl on her lap.
"i-it was a g-girl from th-the Bulletproof R-Records sh-showcase!" Simone yelped, feeling the tip of the strap roughly jab into her g-spot several times, as Raquel raised a brow at her and chuckled darkly, shaking her head while she tightened the grip on her neck.
"Lou's showcase? and you thought i wasn't gon' find out, Simone? i look fuckin' stupid to you or somethin'?" Raquel growled, furrowing her brows, as she harshly slapped the girl's other asscheek and left another handprint, "all my peoples was in that bitch that night and you thought nobody was gon' tell me 'bout the wack ass bitch tryna' make moves on my girl?"
"n-nooooooo!" Simone sobbed, stray tears beginning to roll down her rosy brown cheeks, as Raquel smirked sadistically watching the tears roll down her face, knowing she was starting to get to the girl, "i-i'm about to—"
"you're about to hold that shit, that's what you gon' do," Raquel chuckled bitterly as she abruptly stopped her thrusts and lightly tilted her head at her, "you out here fuckin' otha' bitches and think i'ma let you cum? you must really be fuckin' crazy, Simone."
"no, no, no — please! i'm sorry, Raquel, i won't give yo' pussy away no more, just don't leave me like this," Simone begged, looking at the woman with teary eyes, as Raquel looked at her with a blank stare, that same smirk still written on her face, "...please, baby?"
"that "baby" shit not 'bout to work on me right now, Simone. you want that nut? you betta' work for it," Raquel chuckled, raising a brow, as she caressed her hip with her fingertips, "betta' put these hips to good use, mama."
Simone gently bit down on her bottom lip as she gripped Raquel's shoulders, her acrylics crazing the woman's bra straps while she began to bounce at a steady pace. Raquel continued to grip Simone's neck as she held her head up, refusing to let her look away from her eyes — and to be honest, Simone was afraid to because Raquel was unpredictable. Simone bounced and rolled her hips on the strap as her eyebrows lightly furrowed and her eyes slightly fluttered, her lips sitting ajar while Raquel licked her lips at her.
"there you go, pretty mama. work for that nut like a good girl." Raquel praised, that same smirk still on her face, as she rubbed Simone's sore, red asscheeks and Simone whimpered at the contact, her walls contracting around the strap while her orgasm snuck up on her for a second time — and Raquel could sense that it pending because Simone started riding faster and rougher than before.
"you gon' cum, baby? hm? you gettin' your reward for ya work?" Raquel cooed as Simone rapidly nodded her head and her jaw sat open while involuntary moans and cries fell from her mouth, "promise me somethin' and i'll let you cum, Simone."
"a-anything!" Simone didn't realize the potential risk of the answer to Raquel's statement, and honestly, she didn't care. she couldn't focus on anything else but getting her orgasm, and if she had to promise something to Raquel, she'd do it, no questions asked.
Raquel chuckled tauntingly and her smirk widened as she leaned in closer to Simone and rested her forehead on hers, watching her struggle to hold eye contact with a smug look in her eyes.
"Don't give my shit to nobody else."

Captain Rex x F!Reader Pt. 1 Rex tells the story of his first love, his first heartbreak, his one last regret. Word Count: 1,166 Warnings: None (from what I can tell) A/N: This is meant to be a multiple-part story, the second chapter will be out soon!
Tumblr media
"Rex? How come you're so good with kids?" Hera's soft voice rung out in the almost empty cockpit of the Ghost. It was an early afternoon when Kanan, Ezra, Zeb and Sabine left, leaving the two captains behind. And Chopper.
They had been sent on another stealth mission, something about retrieving data on the Empires latest star fighters. Now it was the early hours of the evening, and they still weren't back.
"Huh?" He hummed as he turned around, his swivel chair squeaking in protest at the sudden movement. "What do you mean?"
He had an inkling of an idea of what she meant, though he wasn't too happy to pursue this topic. Play stupid, yes, play stupid, Rex thought as he nervously made eye contact. Maybe she'll drop it.
"Oh come on Rex, you know exactly what I mean. You're practically a second father to our youngest ones!" She exclaimed, elbowing him in the ribcage as she leaned over, egging him on.
"Beep boop!" Chopper added, his tiny, robotic arms raising into the air.
Rex left out a soft grunt at the sudden dig, recoiling into the soft cushion of his chair. He rummaged through his thoughts, trying to form the most believable lie in the next five seconds, before the two managed to catch on.
The cogs in his brain turned, working overtime as Rex dragged on the silence, scratching at his beard in thought.
After a few moments, he let out a sigh, his shoulders drooping.
"I-I'm not sure this is appropriate, Hera." His voice was soft and yet firm, he used it often on his brothers back in the day when they wanted to disobey command, he agreed, and yet followed orders like a good soldier.
In response he received a confused 'huh' before a sudden pain erupted in his shin. That goddamn clanker!
A grunt left his lips as Rex attempted to smack the top of Chopper's metallic head, a slight burning pain erupting in his palm as the robot mechanically cackled, enjoying Rex's demise.
Though to Hera and Chopper this was a sweet, lighthearted moment, to Rex it was a sticky situation. He hadn't yet told the others of this part of his past, and he wasn't sure he wanted to dip his fingertips in deeply drowned memories.
"Oh come on, you know we won't judge." Hera continued, wiggling her eyebrows at the older man. "And plus, this is great for team bonding." She wiggled her eyebrows at him, trying her best to look as convincing as possible.
The two got on well, being somewhat close in age even with Rex looking like a grandpa. He still had the refreshing energy and spirit of a young man, but he also had the knowledge and experience of an experienced veteran. How fitting.
Rex would do anything but talk about this. The room felt a little too hot for his liking, his heart beating harshly against his rib cage.
"It's a bit hot in here, isn't it?" He asked, getting up and moving over to the temperature control panel.
Though as his gaze moved from the control panel to his fellow captain, Rex couldn't help but sigh out loud, his head hanging down. "Fine. You got me."
Before she could even proclaim her victory, Hera was quickly hushed by Rex.
"Just know this doesn't have a happy ending." He warned, crossing his arms over his chest. All of a sudden, the cool steel grey of the cabin seemed more inviting to look at than his fellow crew members.
Leaning back against the wall, Rex thought over how to tell her. These.. Memories, these events, he had hidden them away deep within his subconscious, like sacred mementos in a time pod.
Only a few people were allowed to dig them back up, if they hadn't been by his side as he lived through them.
I guess it's their time now too.
A heavy sigh and a shake of his head later, Rex was feeling ready enough. As ready as he could be.
"Long ago-"
"You sound old."
"Be quiet," Rex hissed out, his words whistling out like bullets from a gun.
He could tell Hera meant it as a joke, but this wasn't something he could bring himself to joke about.
"Long ago, when I was just a shiny, I met this.. Girl."
"Ooo."
"It was during one of my first missions," He paused, observing the scratched out pattern on the floor, "She was caught in the crossfire, and I saved her." He felt his chest twist as more words spilled from his lips. Even though so many years had passed, the memories still felt as fresh as the day they were formed.
He couldn't stop now. He wouldn't.
"As we made our escape, a plasma bolt grazed her hand, and she fainted and then we defeated the bad guys and my brother Kix had gone off to tend her wound, he was a medic clone, y'know." His shoulders shook as he scoffed, remembering how well Kix had handled the situation.
"She was so.. So weird. She insisted on walking herself home, but then proceeded to get lost on our ship. So I had to find her and escort her, like a gentleman," He paused, his gaze locked onto a scratch of the ships floor, "I think that was the first time I ever felt like a human, like a man."
"From there on, we became closer. She was moved t Coruscant and so I was able to see her during every shore leave. We wrote letters to each other, we went out together, we slept together. Waking up to her by my side was like a dream come true. Until it wasn't."
At that, Hera's posture straightened out a little. She wasn't sure where this was going, and she could feel Chopper shielding himself with her leg.
"My duty to the Galactic Republic outweighed my duty.. My loyalty to her. I left her when she needed me most." He paused again, this time his shoulders shaking, tears tiptoeing at the edge of his waterline. "She wasn't my priority. And neither was Tala."
"Rex-"
"I spent so many months, weeks, days yearning for her. She was there when I closed my eyes, reaching out to me, she was as beautiful as a morning sunshine, her eyes held so much love for me. And I abandoned her." He paused, hiding his face in one hand, seemingly pushing the tears back with his thumb and forefinger. "Tala was three when I left, and I hadn't seen them since."
Silence fell over the trio. Rex didn't want to continue, and Hera was at a complete loss for words. Even Chopper, the usually chippy chirpy robot, had nothing to beep out at this.
Simply put, nobody knew that side to Rex.
"R-Rex I- I don't know what to say.."
"It's fine. I've made my peace with it." He waved her off, the tears having evaporated from his eyes in mere seconds.
"Are they.. alive?"
He felt his breath get caught in his throat, encircling and squeezing at his wind pipe like a tight fist.
"I.. I don't know."

"Sabine, darling?" Ezra groaned under the weight of the couch. "Hm?" In the weeks since the second bring-someone-back-home-from-Peridea, Sabine and Ezra had decided to move into the old E-272 LothalNet Comm Tower Ezra once called home back before he encountered Zeb, Kanan, Hera, Chopper, and Sabine. And today was to be day one of the remodeling process, dedicated to taking all the crates, and the furniture fallen into disrepair. The first order of business was anything that wasn't bolted to the wall.
"Maybe- maybe we should have used The Force for this.." Sabine snorted hysterically and shook her head. "Come on, Ezra Bridger, are you telling me you don't wanna work those tendons?" It became apparent that Sabine did not realize the opening she had given Ezra. "Maybe I'd like to work your tendons." "Okay there, mister. That's enough of that.." She'd broken out into hysterics almost hard enough to make her drop the couch, but Ezra was fast on his feet to prop it back up again, to which Sabine grabbed the couch's legs again and hoisted it level. Seeing Sabine laugh like that was a contagious virus for the likes of Ezra Bridger. Soon he found himself chortling as seeing her turn vivid red over his comment reminded him of the sheer magnitude of the fact that she was his Sabine Wren, and he was her Ezra Bridger. Neither of them liked making highly detailed plans, but they both reminded themselves to at least keep one vague schedule in the back of their heads amidst frequent matters and threats to respond to. A schedule that allowed them to finally be young again and take their time with the other. Remodeling, then settling down, then marriage. In the years after his stranding, Lothal had become something of an elysium. Shimmering skyscrapers and endless bright green grass with rolling hills denoted a world having changed for the better after the overthrowing of Imperial rule. Ezra swore he could never get tired of seeing Lothal like this, so much beauty and wonder in his general vicinity, something so revitalizing all around him every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year. And yet, after setting the couch into the speeder, looking out into the vast swathes of color around them, neither Sabine nor Ezra ever considered anything other than each other the most beautiful, no, gorgeous thing in their lives. He was her Ezra Bridger, and she was his Sabine Wren.

Physical Touch
For all his skittish avoidance of them, Sabine observed, there was a part of Ezra that seemed to crave touch.
She saw it in the way he gradually stopped flinching at Zeb's shoulder thumps, once he realized the gesture was affectionate, once he realized he wasn't being hit. She saw it more readily in the way he lit up whenever Kanan or Hera put a hand on his arm or shoulder, how light would practically beam out of him.
She even saw it in how he would pat Chopper's dome at odd moments—ostensibly to annoy the droid, who would slap him off and screech in binary and chase him around with his shock prod as Ezra ran away laughing, but aside from her and Hera no one else had dared to touch the cranky C1 unit with any kind of affection, and Sabine could only conclude that Ezra must, on some level, enjoy it. No matter how badly Chopper bullied him on the regular.
Sabine herself? Was not a particularly "huggy" person. She kept people at arm's length, both literally and figuratively, but understood the paradox of not wanting to let her walls and guard down and yet longing for intimacy and affection. She related to Ezra in that fashion. Sympathized with him.
She was looking for him now, actually. He was doing that thing where he would pretend he wanted to be alone to mope but he really wanted someone to keep him company and seek him out to comfort him—another painful similarity between them she understood. Today's Jedi lesson had not apparently gone well. There'd been some yelling. Kanan had walked into the living room where she'd been painting, radiating frustration.
Sabine had quietly put down her paints and gone out to check on Ezra.
She found him sitting curled up on a little hillock, staring out towards the waving grasses. His shoulders were hitched, and his bangs were falling into his face.
Sabine plastered on a smile and came to sit next to him.
"Rough day, I'm guessing?" she quipped lightly, as she plopped down.
He gave a noncommittal sound and a shrug, curling up tighter.
Heart panging, Sabine lifted a hand, then hesitated. She remembered a bit of holovideo from the disk she'd cleaned up for Ezra—just a fragment really, too corrupted to be any good-of Mira gently stroking Ezra's hair.
The blue-black strands shifted with the breeze now, fluttering around Ezra's head. It looked soft and fluffy and she found her hand drawing towards it.
Carefully, she let her fingers slide into his hair, tenderly combing up through the strands.
Ezra gasped softly, eyes widening, stiffening with a bit of shock.
Smiling more genuinely this time, Sabine used the hand in his hair to tug his head gently into her shoulder, again, like she'd seen Mira do in the brief holo clip.
Ezra melted, leaning into the touch with a kind of shuddering sigh.
Sabine let her fingers keep brushing through Ezra's hair, almost hugging him to her side as she played with the ends.
"Thanks," she heard him whisper, so quietly she almost missed it.
***
Gift Giving
After seeing how Sabine's eyes had popped with delight when he showed her the TIE fighter, Ezra had tried very hard to recreate that reaction.
And it turned out Sabine liked getting things.
It took a bit of experimentation to figure out what things, specifically, Sabine liked getting the most. Despite all that he'd managed to learn about girls from trashy holofilms and the drunken advice of his fellow homeless vagrants, Sabine wasn't particularly into flowers or jewelry. Sweets were slightly better, but Sabine had an allergic reaction once to a bit of kopa nut Ezra hadn't realized was in the chocolates he'd bought her and he'd avoided repeating that mistake since.
Art supplies were an obvious choice, but being in the Rebellion meant he was only slightly less broke than he'd been on the streets, so getting Sabine anything of actual quality, that suited her standards, took a bit of saving and scrimping.
It was so worth it, though, when he presented her with the fancy pastels kit she'd been eying in that Garel shop window for forever.
She gasped, almost snatching the box from him in her eagerness. Ezra watched her read and re-read the brand name across the front several times.
"Ezra..." she breathed, and Force how he loved when she said his name like that. Her eyes lifted, joy tugging at every corner and wrinkle of her face. "Is this—?" She couldn't even finish.
Ezra ducked his head, bashful, hiding a grin. He tried to play it cool, rubbing a hand behind his head. "I know you've been wanting them for a while and I had a little extra so..." he trailed.
Sabine flung arms around him, almost bowling him over. Her teal and blue hair was tickling in his face and Ezra forgot how to breathe for a moment as he tried not to freak out about the fact that Sabine was hugging him—hugging him—and ruin things by making it all weird.
She had finally gotten used to him, she let him in her room without turning him away at the door with a mumbled comment about wanting to be alone, she joked with him on missions now and even sometimes laughed at his bad jokes, he didn't want to spoil things by making this about his lingering crush on her.
He was just being nice to a friend. That was all.
He still liked how good she smelled as she pulled back out of the hug, though.
Sabine was grinning from ear to ear, mischievous twinkle in her amber eyes. "You realize I'm going to have to test these out right away?" she quipped, tone implying something conspiratorial.
"Guess I should make a point to steal another TIE fighter for you," he joked back.
She was shaking her head. "Pastels wouldn't stick to the titanium alloy, would be a wasted effort."
"Then it's a good thing I also swiped this," he said, producing a clean white Bike Trooper helmet and presenting it with a 'ta da!' gesture.
"Oh ho, you do know how to treat a girl," she laughed, reaching for the helmet and balancing it atop her box of pastels. "Well c'mon, who knows how long we've got before Zeb and Kanan get back." She tilted her head towards the hanger doors, through which the mostly-empty Ghost could be seen parked, and Ezra followed her eagerly, heart warming at the praise.
The two of them tramped up the ramp like quick shadows.
***
Words of Affirmation
"Sabine said I should wear the Scout Trooper armor more often, makes me look mature and grown-up," she heard Ezra bragging to Zeb from the hallway.
Her door was cracked open just a bit—for both ventilation and privacy—and Sabine heard his preening, and chuckled a bit at how annoyed Zeb sounded when he countered back, "Don't let it go to yer head, kid."
Ezra just laughed in response. Sabine knew he'd be riding the high from her compliment for days.
In fact, she should probably go fluff his ego a bit more, keep his spirits up. He was still bummed out about not getting Hera's kalikori back. Hera had dismissed the loss with relative ease but Ezra was taking it like some kind of personal failure.
He took everything so personally, now...
Shaking off that somber thought, Sabine picked up her cloth and wiped her paintbrush off, setting it down on her easel.
Pretending she hadn't just been eavesdropping she stood up from her stool and walked to the door, cracking it open a bit more and leaning on both edges of the frame.
"What are you giving him grief about this time, Zeb?" she said, teasing, grinning wide.
Zeb rolled his eyes, but Ezra turned towards her.
"I was just telling Zeb about how much you loved the Scout Trooper uniform," he said.
She shrugged. "Well, they say clothing makes the man, but I think it was the other way around this time. That armor definitely wouldn't have looked as good without you in it."
She might have struck him speechless with that one. Was he blushing? He looked dumbfounded and Sabine swore she saw his cheeks reddening.
He was adorable.
With a small cough she cleared her throat. "Hey, glad you made it out okay," she said, changing the subject. "I was really worried when I heard that you and Hera were captured."
He glanced away, eyes lowering. "Wasn't anything to worry about," he dismissed. "Just the usual kind of danger we get into."
"Still would have kicked myself if anything had happened to you," she argued, reaching across to grab a pinch of his sleeve, draw his eyes and attention back. "You mean a lot to me, all right? I care about you." Her eyes squeezed earnestly as she tried to make him understand. "I just don't want you to get hurt."
Their gaze held a long moment, blue looking wonderingly into amber, as Ezra took her words in, something in the depths of his irises seeming to glow brighter.
"Err... should I give you two a moment?"
Both teens broke eye contact immediately at Zeb's awkward comment. Sabine brushed her bangs back, hiding her face, her own cheeks flushing now.
Ezra coughed heavily into his fist, very deliberately looking forward and not at her. "I'll uh, see you tomorrow then?" he said.
"Right," Sabine blurted, fleeing at once back into her room and sliding the door all the way closed.
She could still hear Zeb's voice, muffled behind the door, making teasing comments that Ezra replied to with inaudible muttering.

Acts of Service
Mandalorian history was full of heroes who performed great deeds. Feats of strength, of valor, of honor. Fulfilled oaths. Last stands.
They weren't all that different from Jedi, honestly. A life of service to others was a Jedi's calling and goal, requiring much of them, demanding the fullness of their dedication even to the point of ultimate sacrifice.
So this, his last great act, his wild ploy to upend the chessboard and sweep away the Seventh Fleet, leaving her his lightsaber as a token, might as well have been a blaring love letter to Sabine's Mandalorian sensibilities.
I love you, I love you, repeated sadly in his head, as her last words—begging him to get off the ship—echoed in his ears. I'm sorry. I have to do this.
She was going to be so angry at him. When she found him she would probably kick and scream and cry.
But he knew she'd understand. After all, she was a warrior herself. She would know the kind of personal sacrifice he was making, giving up everything he'd ever known and loved for the chance that she and everyone else could live free.
It was the kind of noble, larger-than-life task that defined so many Mandalorian epics.
Ezra steeled his jaw and held his head high, diving deeper into the Force as purrgil song filled his ears and hyperspace began stretching out white through the atmosphere. Thrawn cursed and spat but nothing could stop the young Jedi now.
He would do the task that only he could. Ezra Bridger, son of Lothal, Jedi apprentice...
...The boy who loved Sabine Wren.
***
Quality Time
She needed to be next to him like she needed to breathe.
Sabine still couldn't believe it, that she finally had her lost Jedi back, that he was alive and real and whole and he wouldn't leave her side.
They had barely spent a moment apart since she and Ahsoka had rescued him from Peridea.
The journey home had been full of drinks and laughter, so many drinks and laughing so hard her sides hurt. The ship lights spun and twinkled in their eyes and when they finally retired for the night she just latched onto his wrist and pulled him onto the blankets on the floor.
They were out almost immediately, tangled up in each other, but woke up sometime in the wee early hours and just whispered more stories to each other, getting caught up, telling each other everything that had happened in the gap between then and now.
Sabine curled a hand around his, marveling at the strength in the rough brown fingers. Stars how she'd missed this! Just sitting and talking, being in each other's company. It made her think of movie nights and sleepovers in the living room on the Ghost, talking long walks around the perimeter of Chopper Base, sparring in the cargo bay, that one night they'd stayed up watching a meteor shower on a blanket just like this.
"What is it?" he asked her, noticing she'd gone quiet.
She sighed happily, bringing his hand up to kiss the back softly.
"Just happy we're together again," she told him. The empty space left unoccupied, where he should have been all these years, was full again. "I missed this," she said aloud.
"Missed you," he whispered, leaning in for a stolen kiss against her cheek, beard tickling her skin.
She giggled, happy tears threatening at her eyes. "Stay with me a little longer?" she begged.
"Of course," he assured her.
It was a long trip home, but she got to spend it with the man she loved.
Nothing else could have made her more content.

Ok, here's the post I promised detailing why I take issue with Ahsoka's decision to send Kanan to find Rex in Rebels.
Disclaimer: This is not me "hating" on Ahsoka, this is just me being critical of a couple of her decisions.
To start off: Ahsoka knows that Kanan is a Republic Era Jedi, and common sense tells us that if someone was a Jedi during that time, they were almost 100% certain to have faced the clones during Order 66. Ahsoka may make stupid decisions sometimes, but she is not stupid. It was not lost on her that Kanan, only old enough to have been a padawan at the time (if she didn't recognize him from around the Temple), probably saw his master get brutally murdered.
Now, she might not know the details like we do, but it's made very clear that Kanan has definitely not healed from Order 66. Grand Inquisitor literally spells it out for us by taunting Kanan about his master's death and talking about Kanan having nightmares because of it, with Kanan being near tears and clearly blaming himself when he says that her last words to him were "run."
It is still very much an open wound for him and Ahsoka knows this, even if she isn't clear on the details.
"How does Ahsoka know this?" You might ask.
"You must trust him." - Ahsoka repeats this phrase over and over to Kanan in the beginning of the episode. She offers no other explanation or information except "hey this droid can track my friend" and "trust my friend." Nothing else.
Why would she say that, unless she knew that Kanan was going to react badly?
Now, even if Kanan was absolutely the only person possible who could've done this mission (which he wasn't), my main issue is that Ahsoka didn't give Kanan the informed choice of whether he wanted to go on the mission or not. She withheld information from Kanan so that he would go on the mission without a fuss, knowing that he would probably change his mind if he knew that her "friends" were clones.
"How would she know that?" - You don't withhold information like that for no good reason. If she didn't think Kanan would put up a fuss, or if she actually cared about giving him a choice on whether or not to face the men that helped murder his family, then she would have given him the full story and not just some vague message of "trust him."
("But Jedi-Enthusiast, the clones didn't want to kill the Jedi, they were forced to!" - Yes, we--as the audience--know that and so does Ahsoka, but Kanan clearly doesn't. It's shown in the episode that he obviously thinks the inhibitor chips were an excuse, but not the actual reason.)
Ahsoka's decision to withhold this information is not just shitty, but it's also really stupid.
What if Kanan's PTSD manifested like Wolffe's did?
Wolffe's first instinct upon seeing a Jedi was to kill first, ask questions later, until Rex managed to ground him.
What if Kanan's first instinct upon seeing clones was the same? Or, better yet, what if he wanted revenge for his master's death and decided to just kill them anyway?
She was lucky that Kanan's first response to seeing clones was shock, fear, anger, defensive position and not shock, fear, anger, violent response to seeing his family's murderers.
Overall, I just think she should've given him all of the information and allowed him to make an informed choice about whether or not to go instead of just letting him blindly walk into a situation that would remind him of his trauma.

Sabine Wren & Ezra Bridger
Lovely Little Stars
Tumblr media
Story Summary: Takes place between Trials of the Darksaber and Legacy of Mandalore. To celebrate Life Day, the rebels at Chopper Base on Atollon are given the day off to relax and enjoy themselves amidst the growing conflict with the Empire. However, Kanan Jarrus has one more lesson in mind for Sabine, who is still coming to grips with the Darksaber.
For @sabezra-life-day-celebration
Sabine trudged over the last sandy dune and finally arrived at the practice area set up for her training with the Darksaber. Kanan was already there, sitting cross-legged, apparently deep in meditation; a steaming cup of fresh caf was held in his hand, the wisps of heat rising tantalizingly in the early morning chill. Despite the arid dunes and barren wastes of Atollon, the planet did seem to have a winter season and a frigid one at that.
Sabine shivered, despite the thick cloak she wore over her Mandalorian armor. She squinted at the caf in the older Jedi's hand and said, "That better be for me, Kanan."
Kanan turned his head towards Sabine, a small smile appearing on his lips. "Ah, Sabine. Was wondering if you were going to show up."
"I haven't decided yet," Sabine replied bluntly. "Depends on if that caf is for me."
Kanan offered it to her. She sipped at it, feeling the warmth and caffeine hit her sleep-deprived system like a blaster bolt.
"Feeling better?" he asked.
Sabine eyed him and said, "This caf is saving your life right now."
Kanan grinned and said, "Thank Ezra for that. I actually forgot to bring it while I was setting up."
"Ezra?" Sabine blinked and looked around the practice area -
A familiar figure was laying on the practice ground, snoring softly.
Sabine snorted. "You brought Ezra here, too?"
Kanan nodded. "He'll be your partner for this lesson."
She groaned. "Kanan. It's Life Day! We have the day off."
"You'll still have your day off, Sabine. That's why I called you and Ezra in so early." He stood up and stretched.
"Ezra!" he shouted.
The young Jedi awoke with a start. "I'm awake! I wasn't sleeping, I was meditating, I promise!"
Sabine laughed. Kanan shook his head, partly exasperated, partly amused. "Ezra, get your lightsaber out. Sabine, you brought the Darksaber?"
Sabine finished the last of her caf and unclipped the ancient weapon from her belt. "Are we practicing forms again?" she asked.
"No. Just a simple sparring session. There's something I need to verify."
Sabine shrugged. "Whatever gets us done quicker." She was very much looking forward to resting in her bunk on the Ghost.
Ezra shook the sleep from his eyes and approached Sabine with a bright smile. "Ready?"
Sabine felt a smile of her own coming on, breaking through the earlier gloom; as always, Ezra's presence here made things more bearable. "I was about to ask you the same thing, goober."
Ezra arched an eyebrow at her. An emerald blade blazed into existence, snapping into a defensive movement.
An obsidian blade hissed from the Darksaber's hilt in response. Sabine held it single-handed, the blade's point aiming at Ezra.
The two friends gazed at each other, waiting.
And then, from Kanan: "Begin!"
Obsidan met emerald in a clash of sparks.
Some time later, Kanan called a halt to the sparring session.
Ezra collapsed onto his butt, panting from the exertion. Sabine squatted down on her haunches to catch her breath.
"Well?" she huffed. "Did you get your verification of whatever it was you're looking for?"
"I did," said Kanan. "You're too direct with your attacks, Sabine. Too predictable."
Sabine rolled her eyes. "I'm Mandalorian. Direct attack is our whole philosophy."
"Yes," said Kanan patiently. "But you need to be more flexible in your movements. You need to wield the Darksaber like it's an extension of yourself."
Sabine frowned. "What do you suggest? More training?"
Kanan grinned and Sabine suddenly had a bad feeling. "Of a sort, yeah."
Zeb suddenly appeared over the hill, bringing a hover-cart with him; on it were two large speakers and Chopper.
Kanan turned to him and said, "Zeb. Right on time."
Zeb nodded at Sabine and Ezra before asking, "Where do you want 'em, Kanan?"
"Just place them down there in the pit, if you please." Kanan pointed out the specific locations and Zeb complied.
Sabine narrowed her eyes at the speakers. "What is this, Kanan?"
"Your lesson," replied Kanan cheerfully. "I need you to loosen up, Sabine."
Ezra appeared next to Sabine, a curious expression on his face. "And how is she going to do that, Kanan?"
"With a dance lesson, of course. No better way to learn grace and fluidity."
Zeb snickered, leaning against one of the speakers. "Oh, this is gonna be good to watch."
Chopper, next to him, whooped in agreement.
Sabine wanted to sink into the ground at that very moment. "Kanan. Please tell me you're joking."
Grinning, Kanan replied, "Nope! I'm gonna have Chop here turn on some winter music appropriate for the Life Day festivities and then you and Ezra are going to dance."
Sabine whirled on Ezra, feeling a blush heating her cheeks in the frigid air. "Did you know about this?" she demanded.
Ezra scratched the back of his head and gave her an innocent look. "Absolutely not."
She jabbed at him with a finger to the sternum. "I do not believe you, Ezra Bridger."
He held up his hands in a placating gesture. "Look, the sooner we do this, the quicker we can get to relaxing, right? I'm right here with you, Sabine."
Ezra gently took her hands in his own and gave an affectionate squeeze. Sabine felt her heart rate begin to settle.
"Fine," she sighed. "Let's give Kanan his show and then be done with it."
Ezra smiled and gave Kanan a thumbs-up.
"Hit it, Chop!"
The speakers came to life and a song began to play.
"This is my winter song to you.
The storm is coming soon,
It rolls in from the sea."
Ezra led Sabine by the hand to the center of the practice area and began to lead her in a slow dance. Sabine felt like her legs had turned to rubber; everything seemed so stiff and ungainly about her all of a sudden.
She turned her head away from Ezra, hoping to hide her embarrassment.
It didn't work.
"Wow," Ezra remarked softly. "This is one of the few times I've actually seen you be bad at something."
She reached up and tugged at his ear, feeling her cheeks blaze at the statement. "Shut up, Ezra."
Wincing, Ezra said, "Ow. Okay, right. Sorry."
"My voice, a beacon in the night
My words will be your light,
To carry you to me."
"This is so stupid," Sabine whispered. "I don't see how any of this has to do with the Darksaber."
Ezra shrugged. They continued to shuffle in an awkward dance around the practice area, trying to sway in tune with the music. Zeb was doubled over in silent laughter.
"Don't worry about the Darksaber. How's your painting coming along?"
The sudden question caught Sabine off-guard. "What?" she asked.
"Painting? I haven't seen you paint in a while. Or draw."
Sabine considered it. He was right; she couldn't recall the last time she had even sketched in her notebook.
"I haven't," she said quietly. "Everything's been happening so quickly and . . I don't know, I guess I forgot."
Ezra turned his head to gaze at her, worried. "You forgot to paint or draw? Doesn't sound like the Sabine I know."
Sabine met his eyes. "I don't know who she is anymore, either."
"Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love"
"Sabine . . ."
She shook her head. "All this stuff with the Darksaber and now I have to see my family again soon, Ezra. It's all so much."
"It's a responsibility," he replied. "I understand."
"It's a burden," she countered. "I didn't want any of this. I don't know if I'm capable enough to handle any of it."
She swallowed. "You're all depending on me. You said that you'll follow me. How can you follow me if I don't even know what the next step is? I can barely wield the Darksaber but now I'm expected to rule over my people? How? How can I do that?"
Ezra stopped moving and suddenly enveloped Sabine into a tight hug.
Kanan said softly, "Chop. Stop the music."
The speakers went silent.
Sabine closed her eyes and leaned into Ezra's embrace. All the worry, turmoil, and anxiety seemed to melt away.
"I can't fix it for you, Sabine. This is your burden, as you said. But I promise that I'll be next to you the whole time."
He released her and looked straight into her eyes; piercing blue to her own warm hazel.
"I'll bear it with you. We'll figure out the next step together, okay?"
Sabine blinked away sudden tears. In a watery voice, she asked, "Are you talking about the dance?"
Ezra laughed. "Of course." Her friend turned back to Kanan and said, "Hey, what happened to the music? It was just getting good."
Chopper twittered in reply and the speakers blared to life again.
"They say that things just cannot grow
Beneath the winter snow
Or so I have been told."
Ezra held out his hand in a formal gesture. "May I have this dance, my Lady Wren?"
Sabine smiled through the tears. "You may," she replied, reaching out in return.
They took a turn -
Ezra tripped and fell flat on his face.
Sabine gazed at him for a long second, eyebrows raised.
Grimacing, Ezra sat back up and muttered, "Go ahead. It's fine."
She collapsed in laughter. Ezra grinned sheepishly at her. When she was finished, Sabine reached out her hand to her friend.
"Feeling better?" he asked with a smile.
"Yes." And it was true; she was. Whatever this silly lesson was, Sabine didn't really care.
In this moment, she didn't need to worry about the Darksaber or her impending family reunion or being the future ruler of Mandalore. She didn't want any of those things.
Right here, right now, Sabine wanted only one thing: to dance with Ezra. That was all that mattered. Those other worries, they belonged to someone else for the time being.
Ezra clasped her hand and rose back up. Locking hands, they listened for the tune, and began to dance together in rhythm.
"They say we're buried far,
Just like a distant star
I simply cannot hold."
Hera came to check up on them later.
"There you are," she said to Kanan. He was observing the practice area below, watching the two teenagers dance. "They'll be having a feast down in the main hangar soon - what's going on here?"
"Dance lesson," Kanan replied. "Part of Sabine's training."
Hera arched an eyebrow. "Dancing? What's that supposed to teach her?"
"How to loosen up, mainly. She's been through a lot. I wanted to give her a chance to blow off some steam."
Hera turned her eyes to Sabine and Ezra below; Ezra twirled Sabine around with surprising finesse. The young woman let out a delighted laugh in response.
In the corner, next to a speaker, Zeb was doing a weird shuffle dance with Chopper. Hera giggled at the sight.
"Seems to be working," Hera remarked. "Is this a Jedi thing?"
Kanan scratched his beard idly. "Sort of. We had classes. Learned different dances from various cultures; it was to help us become tuned to the Force and learn how to flow within it."
"This is my winter song.
Life Day never felt so wrong,
'Cause you're not where you belong -
Inside my arms."
"Dancing, huh." Hera watched the two young people dance with envious eyes. "I remember such a thing."
Kanan sighed. "It's easy to forget how young they are, sometimes. There's so much weighing on Sabine. I wanted to give her a chance to just . . . forget about it. For one day."
Hera smiled fondly at Kanan. "You're a good man, Kanan Jarrus."
Kanan flashed her a quick smile. "Actually, it was Ezra's idea."
Hera's eyes widened in surprise. "Ezra? Our Ezra?"
He barked out a laugh. "Yeah, it surprised me, too. He noticed that Sabine was being more reclusive than usual. She also wasn't drawing or painting as much anymore."
"Dancing, though? Sabine's out of her element for that."
"So is Ezra," Kanan pointed out. "He wanted them on even footing for her to open up. They both get embarrassed. She's been having such a hard time with the Darksaber, especially with Ezra actually being better than her at something for once. He didn't want that for this."
Hera shook her head in amazement. "He really does pay attention to her."
"She's special to him," Kanan replied. He was thoughtful for a moment and then added quietly, "And he's special to her."
She cocked her head at Kanan. "What do you mean? Ezra's special to Sabine?"
Kanan didn't answer. Instead, he just said, "Let them dance some more, Hera."
"I still believe in summer days.
The seasons always change,
And life will find a way."
Hera sighed and sat down next to Kanan. "Don't understand why you Jedi always have to be so cryptic."
Kanan grinned. "Perks of the job," he replied.
Through the Force, he watched Sabine and Ezra dance and dance.
Their presences were radiant; their auras glowed so brightly together in the Force, like twin beacons in the night.
Like lovely, little stars.
He smiled, feeling content. Whatever came next, Sabine and Ezra would be together to face it.
Author's Note: Still on my Hadestown kick. The song lyrics are from their cover of Winter Song, originally by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson. I don't know if this story turned out well; I just wanted an excuse to write a story that features Sabine and Ezra dancing together. Hope you like it.

Invisible String
Synopsis:
While in bed with Ezra, you tell him how you think you two were always destined to find your way to each other.
(it's also my apology for the angst fic and this Taylor Swift song hits in ways you don't know)
Genre: Fluff just tooth rotting fluff.
--------------------------------------------
It has already been about six months since you and Ezra have been reunited and three months since you two started dating and living together. It wasn't a difficult transition from being friends to lovers, not when you and him had so much history. It felt almost too natural, like you two were meant to end up here.
You and Ezra both grew up with the other members of the ghost crew, you more than him. You were younger than him by three years, but you were part of the crew way before him. When he disappeared, you and Sabine took it so hard, but Sabine at least had an outlet for a while when she was training with Ahsoka, while you stayed behind to help out the resistance in any way that you could.
All those years apart and gaining experiences, though different made you think about the what ifs in life.
"What are you thinking about?" Ezra asked softly as his fingers carded through your hair.
"Just...what if you stayed here. Like you didn't get to sacrifice yourself. Would we have arrived at this point in our lives still?" You asked truthfully.
"I think we would, maybe a lot faster than we did. I also think that it would have been less complicated too. I think I would have confessed to you in a nice field somewhere in either Lothal or we could go to Naboo." Ezra said looking at the ceiling.
"I think I would've liked that, but am I biased if I like the one I did get?" You teased.
"What? The one I said while I had the flu? You're weird." He laughed.
"Only for you." You joked.
You lay your head on his bare chest drawing patterns on it and some of the blaster scars he must've gotten in his time in Peridea. Ezra looked down on you, feeling content and happy, when he asked you a question as well.
Imagine how different life would've been if I declined Kanan's offer to teach me the ways of a Jedi." He said softly.
"I wouldn't have met you, gotten close to you and all of our little adventures with Sabine would be non existent. I don't think Lothal would be free without you." You said softly.
"I wouldn't know how happy I could've been." You added as you looked up at him through your lashes.
"Aw geez, you really know how to fluster a guy." Ezra said as a blush creeped up his face.
"You know I did try though, date other people while you were gone but they didn't work out." You whispered.
"I know, Sabine told me and that's totally fine. Like I told her, as much as I love you and wish to be with you, I don't want you waiting around for someone who might not come back." Ezra added kindly.
"No, Ezra. They didn't work out because I was looking for you in all of them. I was trying to see glimpses of you in them but, then again there's only one you."
It was silent for a while as Ezra let those words sink in. He felt so much unbridled happiness at the thought. He just felt so much happiness.
"I read a book somewhere how some people are connected by the force, or for some a red string, but with how life was with us. The way we keep finding each other. I'm starting to think ours is no measley red string. I think ours is a golden thread." Ezra said.
"Well aren't you a romantic." You teased as you poked his chest.
"Only for you." He returned your earlier words to you.
"Since we're not as busy in the resistance as of yet, wanna come with me to Yavin-4. I want to show you somewhere I used to go before I joined the ghost." You asked.
"Honestly I'd go anywhere with you. I don't think I can handle being away from you for too long now." He said as he kissed your temple.
"You're such a sap. Jacen tells me you talk his ear off during training and you just tell him how we met, albeit very different from how we actually met." You teased.
Ezra looks at you with a teasing grin as he shifts himself to hover over you and moves his hands to where you're ticklish. Letting the sound of both your laughter echo in your little haven. Although Ezra finds it funny to tickle you and finds it even funnier that now that you're both older, you're struggling to get him off of you, but he was much more focused on the sound of your laughter. A sound he truly did miss while in exile.
"Stop, stop, I admit defeat to the great Jabba the Hut!" You exclaimed a bit breathless.
"What? The great Jabba can't hear you clearly?" He said grinning.
"Oh great Jabba, love of my life, sunshine boy, I surrender." You said catching your breath as Ezra slowed his ministrations to a stop.
"Yay! You are now the captive of Jabba!" He said as he dropped his entire bodyweight on you.
"Ezra, no, you're heavier now and you're huge. You're as heavy as a loth wolf or something." You whined playfully.
"This Loth wolf wants to cuddle his darling girl, awooo" Ezra said hiding his face in the crook of your neck.
You card your fingers through his locks and he looks at you. Eyes full of affection, one you're sure you're reciprocating. At that moment, Ezra immediately knew that there was no time more perfect than this. No crowds, no fancy preparation, just you two in your happiest moment in your comfortable pajamas, with the light of the moon being the only light source in the room.
"Marry me?" Ezra asked shyly.
"Huh?" You asked, wanting to be sure.
Ezra moved away from you, allowing you to sit up as he opened a compartment in his bedside drawer, pulling out a small box. He then situated himself in front of you once more as he opened the box and got down on one knee.
"Will you marry me, your goofy and very much smitten boyfriend and make me the happiest guy in the universe, (Y/N) (Y/L/N)?" Ezra asked, his voice shaky as the nerves were settling in.
Your eyes pricked with tears, as you hugged Ezra tightly, nodding your head.
"Yes Ezra. Always yes." You answered as you pulled away.
"Thank the force, I thought I was getting a 'not yet Ezra', I mean I wouldn't mind it but that would definitely destroy my confidence." Ezra said as his own tears of joy rolled down his face.
He grabbed your hand and placed a beautiful ring on your hand. It wasn't too in your face or intricate but it was the perfect ring. You then noticed a certain detail engraved inside the ring.
"Ezra, did you ask the ring maker to engrave this?" You asked, a soft smile on your face.
Ezra looked at you as you handed him the ring so he could see it and he grinned as he read the words.
One single thread of gold tied me to you.
"Yeah, I did. I feel like it sums us up perfectly." Ezra said as he placed the ring back on your finger.
"I love you, I'll always find my way back to you." You said softly.
"I'd wait forever for you too. Now, let's sleep my future Mrs. Bridger." Ezra said with the brightest smile.
"Alright, only because I'd wake up seeing your handsome face." You said as you snuggled closer to Ezra.
The future was truly bright for you two. You won't know what would happen next but as long as you two are together. That would be enough.

Explanation: Elaré's different abilities are tested by a great and powerful Jedi Master.
Tumblr media
Elaré was in quite the hurry as she ran through the halls of the Jedi Temple. She had to get where she needed to be and fast.
"I can't believe I did it again!" she thought to herself as she went.
Her feet carried her swiftly through the temple until she was just around the corner from her destination. However, as she turned the corner, she saw a group of younglings coming out of the room.
She was too late. Again.
Right then, she was going to backtrack behind the wall and out of view, but a couple of the other Padawans spotted her anyway.
"Oh, look who decided to not show up to lightsaber training again," cried out one of the boys named Mag, causing Elaré to halt.
"Seriously? When are you ever going to be responsible and actually come to class?" a girl called Sani then chided her.
Elaré just looked away, embarrassed and ashamed as the rest of the Padawans goaded her while they walked away. This was definitely not the first time she'd been irresponsible and either been late or missed this class entirely. Despite the fact she already had a Master, it was deemed that Elaré was still a little too young to be brought into battles, so whenever Master Gallia was away on a mission, she was still to attend lessons with fellow Padawans who hadn't been assigned to Masters yet. However, she had a bad habit of missing said lessons, even more so in the few days that had passed since Caleb had left on a mission.
Once the others were gone, she quietly walked into the large room where a single Jedi Master stood in the middle of the room, his back to the door as he looked out of the large window in the room at the horizon of Coruscant.
She got down respectfully onto her knees, bowed her head and spoke up timidly, "Forgive me for intruding, Master."
The Jedi Master replied without turning around, "Late again, you were, young Padawan. Lost in your meditations, were you?"
She sighed with defeat. "Yes," she answered, lifting her head back up. "I know, it isn't an excuse, but I have no other reason for my tardiness. I know I should be more responsible with my time and actually come to class on time."
It was then he turned around to face her and the kind, wise face of Master Yoda; the greatest Jedi in all the Order appeared, looking at her.
"Hear such things, where did you?" he inquired.
"From my classmates," she told him.
He leaned forward slightly on his cane. "Ever hear such reprimands from me, have you?"
She blinked a couple times, puzzled. "Uh...no, Master," she said.
The small Master chuckled good-heartedly, which the Padawan wasn't expecting. "Believe they are the teacher, your peers do, which is why they think they can chastise you. Wrong, they are, to behave in such a way. Nothing to be ashamed of, you have."
Elaré's jaw slackened. "I don't?"
Yoda shook his head. "Trouble me, it does not, when you arrive late to training due to meditating and losing track of time. To learn proper meditation, also a good Jedi skill, it is."
"The rest of the Padawans my age don't seem to think so. They tease me for it," she said.
"Value their opinions over mine, do you?" he questioned her.
She panicked for a brief moment, blurting out, "No! Of course not, Master Yoda."
He took a couple steps closer, the tapping of his cane echoing in the empty room. "Important, it is, to learn to wield a lightsaber and fight in battle. To meditate and connect deeply to the Force, an even greater lesson. Without the Force as our ally, rendered useless, our lightsaber training is." Then he grinned proudly. "Already well ahead of the other Padwanas in that regard, you are, Elaré. Learn something from you, they could."
Elaré couldn't believe what she was hearing. Instead of being reprimanded for missing the lesson, she was being praised and by Master Yoda, of all people. For a moment, she was speechless.
Noticing this and still with a grin on his face, Yoda asked, "Nothing to say, have you?"
When she found the ability to speak again, she said to him, "Sorry, Master. I just was startled by your words, but they do mean a lot to me."
"Tell me, young Padawan. The Force...what do you think it is?" Yoda then asked her.
She responded, "The Force is an energy that binds everything and everyone together. It's created and sustained by all life in the universe. It's a part of all of us, but the Jedi have a stronger connection to it."
All of a sudden, she was poked in the shoulder by the end of the Master's cane and she yelped in both surprise and slight pain.
"Textbook definition, that is," he stated. "Think not with your mind...but with your feelings. Reach deep, you must, and find your own answer. Now, rephrase my question, I will. What is the Force to you?"
That was a different question than she was anticipating. Her gaze lowered in contemplation as she took a moment to think of the best way to answer. What was the Force to her? How could she accurately describe it? There were so many things she could say, but nothing seemed right.
Then finally, she settled on an answer. Her head lifted and she said to the wise Jedi, "To me, the Force...is a guardian. It's there no matter where I go or what I do. It's where I find peace, knowledge and protection. I know I won't ever truly be alone because the Force is my constant ally, shielding me from the dangers and influences of the Dark Side. It's what I call upon to guide my saber in a fight and my feet on the paths I take in life. It's there for me when no one else is; it's my constant companion watching over me."
Yoda looked impressed at her answer. "Wise beyond your years, you are, Elaré," he praised her. "Most other students your age, unsure how to answer, they would be. Exceptional, your explanation was."
Once again, Elaré couldn't believe that the Master Yoda was speaking so highly of her. "Thank you, Master," she replied, unable to hold back a wide smile.
"Another small test for you, I have," he then said. "Stand up...and your lightsaber, activate it."
The young lady did as she was told. She got up to her feet, withdrew her lightsaber and activated her golden blade. As she did so, she saw one of the large, half-dome shaped helmets the students usually wore during training floating in the air towards her. She realized Yoda was using the Force to send it her way.
"The helmet, put it on," he told her.
Even though she was a little perplexed at what he was asking of her, she did as she was told and placed the helmet on her head, the front of it tilted just a bit forward so it covered her eyes. Then she heard the beeping and whirring of a training remote Droid being activated.
"Raised, the difficulty programming in the remote has been. Better to test your combat level," Yoda explained.
She gave a nod of her head and then took a defensive stance, raising her lightsaber. She tapped into her connection with the Force, willing it to help her sense the remote and block its attacks. Right away, she sensed it a few feet away, readying its first attack.
Then she inhaled deeply, letting the Force flow through her as she whispered the ancient Jedi words, "I am one with the Force and the Force is with me."
The remote fired and she knew where to block, her blade absorbing the shot. A few seconds later, it fired again and she sensed it coming from her right side. She parried again, swinging her lightsaber out. Then she sensed a rapid-fire wave of shots coming at her as the remote seemingly moved to the left. Quickly, she swung her blade back and forth to block each shot.
Just then, there was a secondary presence behind her, which surprised her. A second remote. Since it caught her by surprise, it managed to land a hit on the back of her shoulder, making her yelp. The laser bolt stung a little. Master Yoda was really testing her now. She spun around and blocked the next shot, but she could still sense the first remote that was now behind her. If she kept flipping back and forth, it would make her disoriented. Instead, she leapt back a couple feet so now both remotes were on either side in front of her. The Force continued to serve her well as she went on to block more shots. A couple of them came rapidly and she took a hit to her thigh and her arm, but luckily, these laser bolts weren't all that powerful. If anything, they just stung, but didn't do much damage. Her blade almost seemed to move on its own, even though her mind was conscious of her actions. This was the Force at work, guiding her every move and helping her see what couldn't be seen. It felt incredible! If this was what it felt like using the Force now, she wondered what it would be like when she was older and had more training.
Then there was one more twist to her test Elaré hadn't anticipated at all. There was movement behind her, a lightsaber igniting, and when she whirled around, she sensed Master Yoda's blade clashing with hers.
"Good. Very good," Yoda commented before stepping back and using the Force to pull the helmet off of her head, sending it clattering to the floor. "Hinder you now, the helmet will," he said, "but keep your eyes closed, you must. Face me through the Force."
Elaré trusted in his instructions and closed her eyes, readying her weapon for his next move. Despite his old age, he was quick and agile. He senses told her he was moving to the side, jumping through the air before going in for another strike. She parried his attack and then did so a second time before being bold and lunging in for hit herself, seeing him in front of her in her mind. Yoda effortlessly fought off her attacks or leapt in the air from side to side to dodge them. At one point, she thought she'd give the old-timer a taste of his own medicine and flipped over his head to his other side when he came at her again. However, she only heard him laugh in amusement and he started hopping around again when she thought she had him. Then finally, he landed and she sensed he was going to use the Force on her, so she threw up a hand at the same time he did to try and counter it. However, he was immensely stronger with the Force than she was and her resistance only lasted a couple seconds before she was launched backwards, rolling across the hard, marble floor. She supposed she should've seen that coming. She was going up against the great Master Yoda, after all.
As she sat up, Elaré could hear his weapon deactivating before he told her, "Performed well, you did." When she looked up, he was holding out her lightsaber hilt to her, which had gone flying from her hands a moment before. She took it from him and got up to her feet.
Resting both three-fingered hands atop his cane in front of him, Yoda gave his judgement: "Needs more discipline, your form does...but your bond with the Force, put you ahead of your classmates, it has. Need to attend this class anymore, I feel you do not."
A half-grunt, half-gasp escaped Elaré's throat. Master Yoda really deemed her that skilled that he didn't think she'd need to be a part of the class of peers her own age?
He continued, "Impressed, I am, with your skills, young Elaré. Two learning alternatives, I have for you. Attend a class with older Padawans, you may, or...have private training sessions with me, you can."
Hearing those options made her legs shaky and nearly give way. "Master Yoda...I don't know what to say!" she cried.
He grinned, seeing how shocked she was. "Need to make your choice right away, you do not. Take time to ponder your answer. Let the Force guide you. Strong, you are, with the Force. Lead you down the right path, it will...and offended, I will not be, if you choose the other class." Then the small Jedi gave a hearty chuckle.
As he turned to walk away, Elaré asked him a question that was on her mind since this whole situation had started: "Master Yoda...of all the Padawans you could choose to gauge their talents...why me?"
The wise Master stopped and turned once again to face the Padawan. "Prefer to study the Force and its teachings; its secrets not through text or lessons, but through personal meditation, you do, yes?" Yoda inquired of her.
She nodded. "That's true, yes," she said.
"Then know the reason behind your kyber crystal, do you?" he then asked.
"Um...actually no, I don't," she admitted.
He hummed again. "A golden yellow crystal, you have. Very rare, that particular crystal is. Signifies strong warriors and associated with knowledge, it is. By Jedi who deeply study the workings of the Force, they are often used, and represent deep understanding and commitment to using the Force for good. Symbolize loyalty and creativity, they also can. Extraordinary, it is, to see a young Padawan your age worthy of such traits."
Elaré looked down reverently at the sleek, black lightsaber hilt in her hand. She'd never known any of that about her gold crystal. Admittedly, she hadn't seen any other gold sabers around the temple, save for the temple guards, but she hadn't fully realized how special that made hers...and her by extent.
Master Yoda took a couple steps closer to her, gazing up at her proudly. "Great potential, I could sense in you, the day you were brought to the temple. Then when you found a gold kyber crystal, knew you were a unique child, I did," he told her. "Over the past twelve years, have you lived up to the potential I sensed in you. Learned, you have, to harness the Force in ways many do not until they are older. Continue in this way and even powerful enough to see the future one day, you could be."
"See the future?" she repeated in awe.
He bowed his head in affirmation.
"You're able to see the future, aren't you, Master?" she then asked.
Once more, he bowed his head, humming low to himself as he sometimes did. "It took me many years to master such an ability. Much training, patience and discipline, it requires," he answered, "but always in motion is the future. Seen so easily, not all things can be."
"I see," she said, her voice lowering.
"Disappointed in that, are you?" he asked.
She shrugged. "Maybe a little," she confessed. "I just thought, if I could learn to see the future, then I could see the end of the Clone War and how things are going to go. I could see what could happen and know how we could potentially save more lives, even save more Jedi."
Yoda hummed again in understanding. "While good, your intentions are...dangerous, it can be, to try and change the future, young Padawan. Do such things, even I cannot."
"I understand, Master," said Elaré.
Then, with a tap of his cane on the floor, Yoda declared, "Now finished, this lesson is. Go now, youngling, and enjoy yourself. Return to your meditations, if you'd like, or perhaps enjoy some quiet in the library. Earned it, you have."
With a grateful smile, Elaré bowed to him and replied, "You honor me, Master Yoda, with your teachings and your words of wisdom. I'll let you know what I decide on your offer hopefully soon."
"Await your answer eagerly, I will," he said.
She flashed him a happy smile and then walked out of the room, her mind reeling from everything that had just happened. She had expected a scolding, not a test and then a recommendation for higher learning. That had all caught her quite by surprise. Master Yoda had even told her she could maybe one day see the future through her use of the Force. Knowing that, she really wanted to make it happen. Even though the Master had said it would be difficult and take a lot of time, she was determined to make it a reality.
"If I can learn to see the future, I can help a lot of people," she said to herself. "I'm sure I can figure out when this war will be over. I'll help save lives. Master Yoda said it can be dangerous to change the future, but I know I can do it! I'll show him that I can. I'll make a difference in this war, even if I can't fight in it. I'll show him...I'll show everyone."
Tumblr media
A couple days later, Elaré was back in her usual place, sitting in front of the Great Tree, resuming her meditations. In the calm recesses of her mind, she continued chanting the mantra she'd used before.
"I am one with the Force and the Force is with me."
In times of stress or when she wanted to meditate deeper than usual, those words helped her a lot. They seemed to bring her comfort and made her feel calm.
Or, at least, she was calm until she heard an angry voice yell at her from across the grounds. She groaned with irritation. It was a voice she knew all too well and didn't care to hear right now.
When her eyes opened, there they were, standing before her and scowling down at her. It was the two bullies of her class that had scolded her before; not only that, but had been unkind to her for some time, Mag Amaj and Sani Oten. Mag was a human boy with dark skin, short black hair with a Padawan braid on his left side and red eyes. Sani was a Mirialan girl with light green skin, a shaggy pixie cut of dark brown hair with her Padawan braid hanging down her right side, emerald green eyes and a tattoo in a "V" formation made of several diamond shapes going across her face.
"Mag. Sani," Elaré flatly greeted them, annoyed at their interruption.
"What's your deal, Drenda?" Mag angrily demanded, addressing her by her last name.
Elaré raised her eyebrows. "You wanna be more specific?"
Displeased at her supposed innocence, Mag blurted out, "Master Yoda told the rest of us you weren't gonna be in class anymore because you're moving up to a higher level. What, do you suddenly think you're better than us now? How did you even swing that anyway?"
She rolled her eyes. The nerve of this boy. "I fail to see how you think you're entitled to that information after how you've treated me," she fired back.
As Mag grimaced at her, Sani spoke up in a nasally, bratty voice to him, almost as if Elaré wasn't even there, "I think she must've used a Jedi mind trick on Master Yoda to try and get out of coming to class."
Elaré gawked at her in disbelief before asking her, "How stupid are you, Sani?"
The Mirialan girl gasped in offense.
Then Elaré went on to say, emphasizing certain words so maybe what she said would get through their thick heads, "I'm not dumb enough to even think of using a mind trick on any Jedi Master, let alone Master Yoda, the head of the Jedi Council, of all people."
Both Mag and Sani just glared at her, unamused.
She propped her elbow up on her knee and leaned into her palm, seemingly bored with the whole conversation. "Besides, mind tricks only work on the weak-minded, so it would never work on a Master...but I'm certain it would work on you two."
That statement didn't sit well with the other two. Mag took a step forward, questioning, "Are you calling us weak?"
Elaré shrugged and stood up, figuring she wasn't going to get back to her meditating anytime soon. "I didn't say that at all...but if the shoe fits...," she replied with a sly grin.
Right then, Sani snapped and shoved Elaré hard, pushing against her shoulders and making her stagger back.
"Don't touch me again," Elaré warned her.
"Fine, then," Sani replied snidely. "I don't have to touch you to get back at you." Then she held out her open hand and used the Force to summon Elaré's lightsaber to her hand, snatching it midair.
"Hey! Give that back!" Elaré shouted. "You have no right to touch that!"
Sani just smirked connivingly, waving the lightsaber between her fingertips at Elaré. "What are you gonna do, Drenda?" she taunted.
Her anger taking over, Elaré moved to tackle Sani to the ground, but Mag was quicker. He grabbed her arm and twisted it behind her back, eliciting a cry of pain from her.
"Good luck getting away," he said in her ear, tightening his grip on her arm.
Sani snickered in amusement. "Who's the better one now?"
"Well, it's definitely not either of you bullies."
Elaré's lightsaber was suddenly whisked away from Sani's hand and they all watched as it flew to someone else's hand; the same someone who had just spoken.
"If I were you, I'd get out of here before things get ugly. Leave Elli alone or else."
Then Elaré's face broke out into a smile as she recognized the newcomer.
Caleb had returned.

So I finally got around to watching both seasons of Visions a couple weeks ago (it's really awesome and Village Bride is probably my favorite!), and something that struck me about Screecher's Reach the more I thought about it was how it perfectly demonstrates the contrasts between Jedi and Sith training. Now, the whole "Force-sensitive student confronts something in a mysterious cave" thing has been around for decades at this point, but Screecher's Reach does something with the concept that shows just what the Sith are like.
Let's look at the two Ur-examples most of us are probably familiar with; Luke in Empire Strikes Back and Ezra in Season 1 of Rebels. Both of these instances feature the young student being sent into the cave to confront their fears, which manifests as a vision of Vader and the Grand Inquisitor respectively. While Ezra's is more drawn out and arguably more frightening what with the Inquisitor killing everyone as opposed to Luke simply fighting Vader, the general feel is still there. At the same time, it's also abundantly clear that these are merely Force visions and Luke and Ezra aren't in any real danger. It's a test of spirit and mind that, while challenging, is also in a fairly controlled setting. Even if something did go wrong, Yoda and Kanan were waiting just outside to come in and help out if needed. Jedi training is about preparing their students for the dangers of the universe, but they do so in a way that is still safe and controlled. The goal here is instruction, and if the student fails as Luke did, they can pick themselves up and try again.
Contrast that with Screecher's Reach. Daal is sent into this cave to confront the Sith Ghost, also as a test of her spirit and fortitude. However, the ghost is not just a phantom of the Force, it's a living being that actively attacks her. Aside from the psychological rigors here, there's also a very real physical danger to this test. If Daal screwed up in any way, she could have gotten seriously hurt or (more likely) killed. And the Sith Mother? She's not even on the planet when this goes down, only showing up when Daal has completed the task. It really goes to show the manipulative nature of the Sith in that their students are almost literally forced to sink or swim. "If you fail this test, you are not worthy of my knowledge or even your life". There are no second chances. Either you do things the Sith way, up to and including taking other lives, or you fall by the wayside.
Also, let's look at ulterior motives. Luke and Ezra were sent into their caves for one purpose and one purpose only, and Yoda and Kanan were pretty clear on what would be expected of them. It's just a test to see how well you're coming along. With Daal and the ghost, however, the fact that the ghost is another Sith opens the door to a ton of scary possibilities. This is just my headcanon, but I believe the ghost was either the Sith Mother's previous failed apprentice or, even more twistedly, her own former master gone mad. Either way, this could have very easily been a way for the Sith Mother to tie up a loose end/threat to her own power. But why deal with that yourself when you can sic this easily-manipulated girl on them instead. Contrast that with Kanan, who made a habit of stepping in to deal with stuff Ezra clearly wasn't ready to handle on his own yet.
With the Jedi, you're training to learn and grow into your own person. With the Sith, you're training to be a tool for your master.

thank u for the tag!! i'm very curious to hear more about the grand looser and sunset in winter lol
oh man you couldn't have asked for more opposite wips pfbfbfb
so sunset in winter was supposed to be a print for a brony convention I went to - didn't finish in time and kinda forgot about it till now!
Tumblr media
now the grand looser is probably my most recent Rebels fanfic draft, the premise is basically, what if the Grand Inquisitor didn't commit die at the end of season 1
most of it is incoherent, but the prologue hopefully is less so (major character!death);
"There are things far more frightening than death." the Inquisitor said.
It was a moment's warning as Kanan realized what the man was about to do. In his head suddenly, as though voice murmured to him, "Not yet."
The Inquisitor let go and at the same time Kanan felt his hand lashing out.
The pau'an yelped in surprise as his fall got interrupted, leaving him comically float mid air. "What are you doing?!"
What was he doing?
Kanan closed his fist and yanked back and the Inquisitor flew up on the bridge.
The Grand Inquisitor raised his head slowly, to look at the jedi towering over him. There were several mixed emotions fighting for dominance on that pale face. But mostly, Kanan realized, there was fear written in the yellow depths of the dark sider's eyes.
"For what you did," Kanan said slowly. "You don't get an out."
The Inquisitor stared at him for full two seconds before he burst out laughing. He slowly got on his knees. "You're a fool," the Inquisitor sneered, standing up fully, looking down on Kanan. He could still sense the fear, but one could no longer tell from just looking. "You have no idea what's coming."
Kanan frowned and made a quick motion with his hand. That alone seemed to remind his body that there was a limit to everything. The sabers were suddenly so heavy now. He gave the smaller one a pitiful look. He pointed it at his tormentor. "Start walking."
The Inquisitor complied.
The whole ship was shaking. Kanan felt tired. Sweaty, like he was burning, like the flames around them already got him.
May as well.
For what he failed to protect.
The jedi felt a lump form in his throat. Ezra... he should've never let himself be talked into training him. Maybe he would still be-
Kanan almost walked into the Inquisitor who stopped for some reason. He frowned and opened his mouth to tell him to move. But the the pau'an wasn't looking at him.
He had his eyes closed, frowning, sensing something Kanan didn't. And then a grin spread on his face.
"What's so funny?" Kanan snarled, moving the blue blades closer to the dark sider. The Grand Inquisitor looked down on Kanan and just bared his teeth more.
They didn't have time for whatever this was. "Walk!" Kanan barked.
The Inquisitor shrugged. Something changed, and Kanan didn't know what. Something good happened, his confidence was leaking back.
The Sovereign shook angrily and Kanan staggered, his vision blurring.
He needed to... get Hera. Get to the others. They're here, Kanan remembered.

updates from the land of the ahsoka show tv spot nonsense (aka i have got to stop fucking watching these bc i’m just going into these little rage spirals)
(sorry in advance, this got kinda long.)
from the master & apprentice tv spot:
first we had this from kathleen kennedy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and while i get she was probably going for the ‘rosario is a good actress and we don’t think any other actor could play ahsoka in live action’ sentiment, it just comes off as SO dismissive of ashley eckstein’s work as ahsoka.
ashley isn’t featured in this video at all, and there’s really only one mention of her doing “great work” as ahsoka in the clone wars. much more emphasis was put on filoni and his work bringing the character to life, and his journey with the character. (as a writer he should get credit for his work writing the character, but none of that writing would’ve been brought to life without ashley).
this just feels like such an insult to ashley, who recently just talked about how much backlash she got when ahsoka first came on screen. she had to deal with so much hate, and it just feels a little ick that they’re still hardly talking about her in these behind the scenes videos. (and the additional ick about rosario’s ahsoka getting so much attention and praise, and how that ties into live action being valued over animation, but that’s a separate rant).
AND THEN, there’s this nonsense from filoni:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i just. where do I even begin with how much i hate the integration of sabine into this lineage?
i’ve talked a bit about it previously, but i just don’t understand the angle of making sabine (who is a mandalorian and very proud of it!!!) into a jedi apprentice!!! and i hate this angle! i don’t see how this will help sabine grow and develop—she’s already a incredibly well-trained warrior, including lightsaber training! because KANAN TAUGHT HER!!!! will she ever be as good as anakin or ahsoka or other jedi? no. But she doesn’t need to be.
and wielding the darksaber in the first place wasn't even really about learning how to use a lightsaber for the sake of using a lightsaber, or because sabine secretly wanted to be a jedi. kanan taught her how to use it because he and fenn rau knew she would be challenged once other mandalorians saw her with it. and they were hoping that she could help unite mandalorians, but other mandalorians weren't going to respect her if she couldn't hold her own with the lightsaber.
and if this is some weird way of trying to have sabine carry on the legacy of kanan and ezra, this is a dumb way to do it. there are plenty of other ways she can honor them (the huge beautiful mural she painted on lothal, for one! protecting lothal in general! And uhhh finding ezra?? instead of filoni saying she stuck around lothal the entire war???). and also, by tying her "jedi training" to ahsoka, that's not really honoring kanan and ezra, because they were part of mace windu's jedi legacy, NOT anakin's! (well, yoda's, but you know. for the sake of that quote from filoni, anakin's).
not everything has to be about anakin's lineage! but filoni is making it that way. this jedi training isn't about sabine, it's about ahsoka. and if he's trying to say something about ahsoka suddenly being a teacher, or what her being a teacher says about her past with anakin, i highly doubt he will do it in a way that's interesting or true to the character, because for filoni, ahsoka always has to be perfect and can do no wrong. and yet, even though she refused to teach grogu because of his attachments to din, she's suddenly super okay with teaching sabine, who has way more attachments than grogu??
like if filoni REALLY wanted ahsoka to be a master so badly, jacen syndulla, an actual force sensitive child, is right there. (though, he absolutely should be taught by ezra bc shatterpoint lineage rights).
and if filoni tries pulling some bullshit about how sabine was force sensitive the entire time, that's an insult to sabine's character, and it's a HUGE insult to kanan, who absolutely would have noticed that she was force sensitive.
it just feels like a back-handed way to say that sabine being just a mandalorian isn't good enough (and god forbid we have more than one major mandalorian character in the star wars franchise who isn't din djarin), and that kanan and ezra aren't good enough, it has to be ahsoka that teaches sabine. i already don't have faith that sabine's mandalorian family will get mentioned a whole lot, if at all. and now with her training to be a jedi, it just feels like they're trying to abandon her entire culture. not everyone needs to be a jedi, and not everyone needs to be force sensitive, and not everything needs to be about ahsoka.
and again, i absolutely have nothing against ahsoka as a character. (i don't like rosario's portrayal of her, and don't even like rosario.)
but dave filoni is starting to beat the dead horse by constantly having ahsoka in new star wars media (probably unpopular opinion, but i think ahsoka should've died on malachor like she was supposed to and should never have been brought back by ezra in the WBW. but that's a separate essay).
so now, in what should have been an (animated) rebels sequel, ahsoka is the star. and the rebels characters are going to get the short end of the stick, as usual.

Rebels Rewatch: "Legacy of Mandalore"
A Mandalorian family reunion!
Live reaction version from 2017.
I do find it hilarious that the kids are in the front seats, driving and co-piloting, while the adults are hanging out in the back.
Ezra's little, "Wait a minute." moment lol.
Nice to hear this bit of spoken Mando'a.
Chopper banging on the outside of the Phantom II with his manipulators lol.
Tumblr media
Remember what I said last rewatch about how the two of them develop into co-protagonists? Part of that seems to be that they start spending more time in the cockpit together. :)
Tumblr media
~Under cloud, beneath the stars... over snoooooooow one winter's morn.~
*ahem* Pardon me there, visiting Krownest always puts those lyrics in my head.
Subtle animation appreciation moment: The snow clumps being shaken off the tops of the trees as they're passing.
Tumblr media
"Don't worry, I'll play nice."
Ah yes, one of the parts of the episode that almost seems like it's playing Ezra off as Sabine's "problem boyfriend" that she's bringing home to meet mom and dad. <3
So it was definitely the Supercommando armor that set Ezra off.
I do not know what it is but Disney has been pulling some really weird shit regarding age order of siblings lately, Tristan does not look like he's the younger sibling at all.
Also Isabella and Luisa should be totally switched around, c'mon.
Subtle animation appreciation moment: How their feet actually sink into the snow with realistic weight and powder compression.
Tumblr media
Love the design of the Wren stronghold. Very Modern Architecture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love him. <3
Takes Sabine promising that the lightsabers will be safe before Ezra decides to give his up. (And yet later in the climax he doesn't even hesitate to throw it to her, aaaaaah!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don't mind me, just appreciating the design of this place.
Ursa sounds an awful lot like Fenn "I made a deal with the Empire to survive" Rau here. I doubt the parallels aren't deliberate.
So I guess the takeaway lesson is don't make deals with the evil empire because it will always screw you over.
Tumblr media
*whispers* If no supposed to ship why have Ezra being adorkable towards Sabine's brother just like Kanan was adorkable at Hera's father?
Tumblr media
Really can't get over the scenery in this episode it's so soft and pretty.
Ursa was so ready to be impressed that her babygirl kicked Maul's ass and so disappointed when that wasn't the case lol.
Does seem like Sabine had a difficult childhood even before the whole Dutchess fiasco. Maybe that was why she decided to go to the Imperial Academy in the first place? Who knows.
My genre-savvy called a lot of the beats this episode, which made it just a smidge predictable for me the first time around.
Not gonna lie, Rau sneaking through the complex is actually kind of hilarious.
Tumblr media
I'll bet Alrich painted that for her. :)
Ngl, the dialogue in this scene is just a bit weirdly written, I dunno what it is but it bugs me.
Ezra's so proud that Sabine kicked Gar Saxon's ass lol.
Tumblr media
Underappreciated Papa Wolf Kanan moment: Shielding Ezra from the guardsman's blasters.
You know I don't wonder why Sabine latched onto the Ghost crew as her new family, high-ranking Mandalorian clans seem overly obsessed with prestige.
Tristan is a blabbermouth lol, still can't get over that.
Tumblr media
Oh man this expression. She must feel like she's relieving her family's disowning all over again.
*chanting* Don't make deals with the devil, don't make deals with the devil.
Saxon is a master at finding loopholes isn't he?
I don't think this brief fakeout from Tristan was necessary, I think he should have just immediately turned guns on Saxon from the beginning.
Nice to hear Sabine's theme in the score tho.
LOLOL IT STILL CRACKS ME UP HOW FENN RAU JUST BURSTS THROUGH THE GLASS WINDOW ALL, "SURPRISE, BITCHES!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
<333333
This moment made the episode for me.
Zero hesitation, complete trust and faith. He loves her so much omg.
Oooooh a nice rendition of the Force Theme here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Told y'all it became a running gag.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Problem boyfriend so worried. <3
Sabine's theme is in french horns now, it sounds like. This iteration of the theme is less mournful and more action-oriented, with flute trills and timpani percussion.
The cracking ice is mostly symbolic I think. I did worry at the time of airing if someone was going to wind up falling in.
Sabine using basic lightsaber positions like Kanan and Ezra taught her. <3
...Was it implied that Sabine hacked off Saxon's arm there or...? Camera angle makes it difficult to discern.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Saxon winds up in a position like Dooku's or the Grand Inquisitor's in the Season One finale, lightsaber blades held crossed at their throats.
But Sabine, having been heavily influenced by the Jedi in her life, chooses mercy over revenge. The moment is even punctuated by a snippet of the Force Theme. Aaaaaaaah I love it, I love that Sabine has let Kanan's influence soak into her so much, has become so much more Jedi than Mandalorian and been made better for it.
Oh, his arm's intact, okay then.
I have... Thoughts™ about the entire Mandalorian mindset of needing chaos to become strong and refusing outside help to fight its battles and how the whole Proud Warrior Race thing so often works against them rather than for them but I'll leave them unsaid for now.
Tumblr media
<33333
This status quo change was honestly completely unexpected, and frankly, the episode is eons better for it.
Sabine's theme is in a triumphant key now, as she watches the Phantom II leave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
:((((
So! This episode is not nearly as good as the previous one, and it's bit predictable, as I said. It's not bad, though, and it's obviously a necessary one for Sabine's growth and character arc, and the overall Mandalorian arc. I was weirdly a little bored this time? Aside from the cute Sabezra bits and the fact that they were bold enough to change up the status quo by having Sabine stay on Krownest, I really feel like this could have been so much stronger as an episode.
Maybe if we axed one of the fillers and made this a two-parter? Idk.
The episode is still decently entertaining enough and has lots of lovely quality Sabine content for those in fandom whose primary investment is her. She gets to really shine here, and show off how far she's come as a character. Which is great.
I think at the time there was a genuine worry that Sabine was being written out of the show. I know I needed a little bit of time to process the thought of her being absent the next couple episodes. But again, they made a narrative choice and stuck with it and I admire that. So I really can't hate this episode. :)
Of course next time we're at my favorite episode of the season and the whole inspiration for an accidentally giant-ass AU that I wrote. See y'all then!

#48 with Ronon/Jennifer for the ask game!!
okay i am loving writing ronon/jennifer they're so cute omg
48- Out Of Habit
It was as good of a morning as you could expect for Pegasus. Ronon was having breakfast with his team, laughing at whatever story was being told. It was nice to have this again, this sense of community, of family.
It wasn't the only thing he found again in Atlantis.
He happened to glance up, his eyes catching Jennifer's from where she stood in the food line. They smiled at each other, a light blush rising on her cheeks. Ronon looked down, smirking to himself. They had been seeing each other for a few months now, but she still blushed every time he smiled at her.
"What's got you looking so happy?" John asked, smirking at him from across the table. Ronon glared at him without any real heat.
"Nothing," Ronon shrugged, a smile tugging at his lips as he glanced up and met Jennifer's eyes again. She was walking towards them now. Teyla looked behind her, following Ronon's gaze.
"Jennifer, good morning. Would you care to join us?"
"Oh, I have a lot to do in the infirmary, I'm taking my food there this morning, but thank you! Ronon, I'll see you later tonight," she said casually, kissing him on the cheek. She took two steps before she froze, turning around to stare at the table with wide eyes.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry, that was a force of habit!" She squeaked out, her face turning bright red.
Ronon hadn't wanted to tell his team yet, he didn't want anyone to know yet, but suddenly all he wanted to do was grab her and kiss her until the nervous look on her face disappeared. Instead he stood up, pulling her into a hug, resting his cheek on her head.
"S'okay. Now they know. Doesn't change anything, does it?"
Jennifer shook her head against his chest.
"Oh god, does this mean I'm going to have to watch another couple make out on team movie night? Teyla and Kanan are bad enough!" Rodney complained loudly, and Ronon didn't even need to turn and look to know the two simultaneous thumps were from John and Teyla hitting him, and the loud protest from Rodney was more habit than anything.
Ronon smiled. Yeah, it was a pretty good morning.

Ahsoka Episode 3 Spoilers/Thoughts
So I never actually got around to listing out my reactions to Episode 3. I laid out some of my thoughts on Sabine using the Force here, in two parts because I'm surprised it's taken me this long to transcend Tumblr's image limit on a post.
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!
My love for Huyang continues to know no bounds...obviously
Still annoyed that Sabine's injury is basically non existent at this point even if she does fiddle with her waistband like it still hurts. Girl you are moving fine, why are we pretending it wasn't a completely unnecessary plot point.
"You told her that??" "It's true." (Still loving the Tech/Huyang comparisons, which I laid out here.)
Oooh the training mask looks like the temple guard mask Kanan put on when he was blinded.
Those wooden training sticks are really beautiful. The props department did not forsake the details in this show.
"Anger and frustration are quick to give power, but they also unbalance you." I honestly really like Ahsoka's version of this more than Yoda's "they lead to the dark side." They can be helpful and sometimes useful tools, and they are innately human emotions. But letting them run rampart will leave you unbalanced and out of focus.
Mon my beloved! I realllly want to know more of why her leadership in the New Republic wasn't able to thwart the First Order (or I guess Thrawn coming back?) She's so capable and intelligent all through her efforts to fight the Empire and advocate for her people. I wonder if she kept her powers too minimal as an overcorrection from Palpatine that she was unable to influence senators like Xiono to do the right thing. Like give me a Dr. Pershing Mando season 3 level episode here on what's going on in the Senate, I beg you.
All of that said, in a vacuum I definitely understand the Senators' efforts to want to put resources toward their people and building up the new Republic, not further military operations. That's not a bad desire at all. Unfortunately it's just too early to let up on security yet (even though that is the same tactic Palpatine used to start squashing dissenters of the Empire in TBB).
Sometimes the dialogue in this show feels like it's not connected to the Rebels characters we know. Hera assuming that Thrawn had died in the first episode, now here she's saying he killed friends that were like family to her? Idk if these are Dave's attempts to give some context to new viewers, but they end up feeling like the characters don't remember what we know about them.
MEW is definitely nailing Hera's strength and emotion though.
Jacen!! And his hair is still green! I wonder what the Lego fakeout was for then. He's so Kanan's son. And Hera's face here!!
The whole conversation about the Force between Ahsoka and Sabine ahhhhhh
Lol the cup is so obviously on a track in the groove in the table
The entire conversation about Sabine between Ahsoka and Huyang AHHHHHHHH
DISASTER LINEAGE :D :D :D
Is it just me or if Hera and Sabine are going to be wearing heavy makeup, Ahsoka should have her darker purple lip color?
Sabine is everyone their first time playing a video game.
"I have several thoughts on everything else going on" LOL
I LOVE Ahsoka's ship. Homey and agile.
I was very worried that Huyang would get wiped with that power surge, but I guess after 25,000 years he's learned to have a backup databank or two.
Ahsoka in a space suit heck yeah. That's Anakin's padawan and Plo's adopted daughter right there. And I love that it's a continuous shot showing her getting back onto the wing/into the ship.
Marrok talking and flying a ship is so funny to me. Especially given ep 4.
Ahsoka and Sabine's dynamic feels much more dialed in now.
THE SPACE WHALES HAVE ARRIVED AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL
Huyang completely unphased at them almost dying multiple times. He knows what Jedi shenanigans are like.
Seatos is absolutely stunning. I can't get enough of the gray fog and the red trees
The visuals and the banter in this episode are 10/10
Intergalactic hyperspace lanes followed by the path of the Purgill!!!!
Man I need Baylon's backstory NOW.

So I don't know if you've gotten more asks about them BUT if you don't mind a second ask, could I hear about the bodyguard au? But no pressure to answer if you don't want to!
I absolutely do not mind a second ask! I would love to talk about this one I have wrote down like zero things for this au but I have lots of thoughts floating around so this is going to be super rambley.
In short: It's a sabezra medieval/fantasy AU where Ezra is some sort of royalty and Sabine is his bodyguard, they do not like each other at ALL
In not short: Ezra is the (adopted, but the people don't know that) son of Kanan and Hera who are rulers over a small country (or part of a country i don't know yet if i want them to be like a duke and duchess or like king and queen, it's still in the air). Said country is under the rule of a cruel and corrupt empire (original, i know). When Ezra is close to coming of age, there is an attempt on his life, so Kanan and Hera make the decision to assign him a personal bodyguard, in comes Sabine.
Sabine is the daughter of two very important figureheads of the ongoing rebellion (which is being funded under the table by Kanan and Hera), and because her parents are off fighting most of the time she was basically raised at the palace by Kanan and Hera. As someone who was brought up spending most of her time around the royal guard she is very proficient in battle which is why she is assigned to Ezra, as a way to give her a Real and Important job without her running off to join the rebellion (Kanan and Hera won't admit it, but they care too much and would worry if she wasn't right there with them)
Problem is, they can't really stand each other. Sabine sees Ezra as a bratty full-of-it rich kid who's gotten everything he's ever wanted and knows it. Ezra sees Sabine as a jerk who doesn't actually care about anyone but herself.
What Sabine doesn't know, is that Ezra and Kanan are actually magic-users/wizards (will possibly think of a cooler name, but maybe not). Magic users have been marked as dangerous criminals by the Empire, and most of them have been killed, so they are forced to keep their abilities a secret. The only magic use that is allowed is by the emperor's own elite force that have been deemed 'cured' from their evil ways, and their purpose is to hunt down the remaining wizards.
Zeb is the Captain of the Guard, so he was the one that taught Sabine everything she knows, and he still gets the annoying little brother treatment for Ezra, he would give his life for either of the kids.
Wow, this is getting long, um Chopper is either some kind of unruly mythical creature (think small dragon or potentially a griffin) or just like a freakishly large cat. The Ghost is Hera's massive white shire (horse, or maybe unicorn, haven't decided)
This AU seems like it would be a lot of fun if I could ever sit down and write it, this post is the most words I have ever written about it.
