Ggrrr I wish disenchantment was better. I binged it all because I'm sick somebody talk to me about this.
#the groening show on netflix#it had so much potential#and i did enjoy it!!! plenty of the characters were awesome#but it tried to be too big. wanted to incorporate too much. i didn't like beans magic. it got really repetitive#it felt like a lot of the movement between “lands” was super unnecessary. and took up a lot of time that could have been used in narrative#development#and you know the most fucked up part is that there was a Canon wlw couple that was end game AND I DIDNT EVEN LIKE THEM TOGETHERRR#and the last seasons egregious hyperfocus on love specifically romantic love like#it was cringe im sorry!!! not great writing#im glad beans relationship w her dad got better but i didnt like how instantanious it felt#also obv. i hate the whole thing with prince derek and his pixie gf. ew. really weird#but there was so much good and it couldve been great#i still enjoyed it but it fell short in so many ways#HOW DO YOU HAVE A QUEER GIRL COUPLE THAT I DONT LIKE!!! ME!!! QUEER GIRL NUMBER 1!!!!!!#i like EVERY WLW SHIP#and mora x bean had potential but like#it seemed a lot of the time liek they didnt even really like eachother. they aggravated tf out of eachother and not in like a hehe gay ppl#who bicker type of way. it was very much lesbian couple written by straight man feeling. idk if thats true but its the vibe i got#to the end im sad elfo never really actionably got over his weird thing about bean. he just said he did#and him and miri/mop girl. ehhhhh#i like her but she should have had a more gradual introduction into the main cast because she really feels like an after thought#glad zog moved to the woods that seemed like the right move#bean kinda handing the kingdom off to the elves kinda felt like a cop out after thought#like she got all weird about this is their kingdom we stole it from them and then only rwally gave it up after she got something that she#wanted more#please let me remake this show!!!!!!!!#also steam land!!! i like the concept but the execution and the travellimg back and forth between the two#the biggest issue this show suffered with though was repetition.#animation was fun. i enjoyed the use of 3d especially in later seasons#a lot of the jokes were funny but a lot just fell short.

My (embarrassingly okay-ish) 9-1-1 Sims
so I do not claim to be good at remaking real people in the sims... I want to go ahead and get that out of the way first and foremost
however I don't think I did *terrible* on these sims (some are definitely better than others) but with that said, here are my 9-1-1 sims
(please don't judge me too hard)
Evan "Buck" Buckley
the tattoo cc I made for buck is definitely way out-of-date, but alas i am too lazy to go back and make a new tattoo to add all of his current 6,000 tattoos (love your tats oliver but no thanks <3) Including that last shirtless pic to show them off a little better.
Eddie Diaz
I know that Eddie doesn't have Ryan's map&compass tattoo in the show but I love that tattoo on Ryan so I included it on Eddie. I chose this hair for him bc I wanted to like blend the length it's at now with his s6 style a little bit- very floofy yet tidy, but also not a schoolboy or slicked back to the gods.
Maddie Han
I think I spent hours trying to get JLH's face as perfect as I could in-game and honestly I don't hate the outcome? like it's definitely NOT perfect by any means, but I think Maddie is one of my favorite sims in terms of how she turned out.
Chimney Han
Chimney is where things started to go a little downhill for me... I don't know why, but after HOURS of working, I just cold not get him right so I eventually had to sit back, take a deep breath, and say 'this is as good as it's gonna get.' I'd like to issue my formal apology to Kenneth Choi for this <3 (pls don't judge too harshly I swear I tried)
Karen Wilson
Karen, like Chimney, was a sim I spent HOURS on trying to get right, but for some reason I just could not for the life of me perfectly replicate Tracie's face... and unfortunately when I first made these sims (a LONG time ago) there wasn't a hair that fit Karen perfectly until (imo) THIS one came with the Lovestruck Expansion pack... I did make the executive decision to give her light brown hair rather than the blonde/brown she actually has, because the blonde in-game looked weird on her. I know these aren't her classic dreads, but I feel like they evoke the general vibe of hers better than some of the options we have in-game.
Hen Wilson
so Hen turned out being one of my favorites. I really love the outfits I picked out for her (bc lets be honest Hen loves wearing some of the WILDEST fits on the show) but unfortunately, this game hates to give female sims just plain slacks that are higher-waisted, so I was stuck with a cc pair that don't quite match but what can I do
Bobby Nash
yet another sim who I feel like I missed the mark on- Peter Krause's face was just IMPOSSIBLE to replicate, so I did my best. I also made the executive decision to not go full-grey for Bobby bc then he looked ancient rather than just late-50s.
Athena Grant
All I have to say about Athena is ANGELA BASSETT DID THE THING (also the cop outfit does NOT do her justice in this- I promise I worked hard to make sure Athena was giving just as much mommy vibes as she does on the show in her other outfits) (she's also ripped as fuck in my game bc I said so)
May Grant
I have a love-hate relationship with this sim because I spent so much time trying to perfectly replicate Corrinne's face, but no matter what I did there was always something that was always just the tiniest bit off... she's definitely not the worst of these sims though
Ravi Panikkar
all I have to say about Ravi is that if they want to give him a boyfriend in s8 i am available, and willing to travel to shoot in Los Angeles-
Also, I DID make a Josh sim, but I accidentally deleted him bc my mouse battery was dying and it was glitching out and i misclicked the "yes delete" button rather than the "don't delete" on the "are you sure?" tab and I didn't feel like going back and finding him again in the depths of my library so I will have to remake him :/
Oh and I made Chris too but every child sim looks exactly the same so he doesn't look anything like Gavin, but that was out of my hands I fear 💀
But anyway, these are my 9-1-1 sims... I made these forever ago and went through last night and updated their hair/outfits, but I haven't touched their physical attributes since I first made them. I'm excited to start playing with them again 😭😭

So there's a fresh wave of Benford hatred in the Resident Evil fandom again, and I wonder how much of it is purity culture nonsense, how much of it is based on Krauser's changed and updated motivations in the RE4 Remake, and how much of it is not understanding how Leon's story arc differs from the Redfields'.
A quick recap: Adam Benford was the one who forced Leon to become a government agent at the end of RE2. Leon was given a nasty choice: become an agent or Sherry Birkin, the child under his care, dies. Not much of a choice. From that point on, Leon was an agent for the same government who blew up Raccoon City and everyone hated Adam Benford. The problem came up in RE6, when it became clear that Leon and Adam were friends. People were damned unhappy about that and there have been comments that when the inevitable RE6 remake comes out, they wanted that portion wiped out.
By doing that, though, a significant portion of Leon's plot also gets wiped out.
A major theme in the RE series is that the BOWs weren't the real monsters: corporations were. Leon's arc makes it clear how entrenched the US government is, too, in this mess. Chris's arcs tend to be simpler, as he focuses on clear-cut enemies. RE1 makes that pretty clear. The incident at the mansion was a planned incident, orchestrated by the clearly evil Albert Wesker. Raccoon City was far messier: a deal gone bad, a corporation trying to hide its mess, and the US government not only wiping out a threat but also destroying evidence of their hand making that mess. The destruction of Raccoon City was because of an evil corporation and the US government: both of their mistakes, both of their deals going badly, both of them hiding evidence.
We aren't given too many details in Benford's portion of things. I think people see him as the one handing Leon the ultimatum and treat him like they treat Piers in RE6: acting like this individual is the one with the ultimate power to make decisions. Just like Piers Nivans didn't have the independent ability to order Chris Redfield back into the field in RE6, Adam Benford wouldn't have had the ability to independently offer Leon that ultimatum. He was the mouthpiece. We don't know his view of things. It isn't given. What we are given is that over a decade later, he is in a position to make independent decisions, he has become friends with Leon, and he has decided to go public about what happened in Raccoon City. That's a pretty big deal.
The anger at Benford's and Leon's friendship makes sense given what we see at the end of RE2, but it also misses the point of Leon's arc. Leon's arc rarely focuses on cackling villains. Leon's story is messy. He is enmeshed since the beginning in corrupt entities, and he fights alongside good people (and morally gray people) within those corrupt entities while he's trying to fight for justice.
RE2: Raccoon City Police Department was corrupt. There were some good people in it, absolutely, but it's an amazing example of police and local government corruption. Leon becomes a cop and wants to help people, and he learns while trying to save Raccoon City just how corrupt everything is. Maybe things would have been different if he was aware of the ACAB thing, but all he knew was he wanted to help people and instead, he became an asset for the people who destroyed Raccoon City.
Darkside Chronicles: Krauser's portion of it reveals quite clearly the corruption of the government and military. He's being used and he knows it. He knows he is nothing but an asset, only important for what he can offer, and he knows his own powerlessness. I think changing his motivation from "I want power, I want to be strong" to "my team was killed" weakens his point and his character. Krauser wasn't viewed as a person: he was viewed as a weapon, and he knew at the end of the game he was going to be discarded because of his arm. When he encounters BOWs, he is introduced to a new form of power, one he can possibly control, and sees a way to become powerful, too. Definitely not a Good and Pure reason but it's a damned understandable one, especially from his POV. He didn't get Leon's intro to BOWs. He had a completely different perspective which meant he came up with a completely different solution, and much of that was fueled by the corrupt and heartless US military and government.
RE4: Yes, you have the obvious threat of Los Illuminados, but Krauser and Ada make it clear that there's more to it. It's not a clear-cut situation. It isn't just save the girl from the bad guys. It is dealing with everything Ada represents: someone who is clearly a liar, someone who is clearly a threat, someone who is clearly working for the bad guys, and someone who helps Leon, anyway. Krauser's introduction is a reminder of how the government and military can't be trusted, how when Leon goes home, he is going back to another threat. The lien between friend and foe is blurred.
Leon's movies repeatedly feature the government and its people as a major threat. While he's fighting against BOWs, he is being betrayed and used by his government. He's being used and set up and he knows it. The people who should clearly be his enemies aren't, and he ends up fighting alongside and saving them. Things remain blurry. He's being used. He's being lied to. The government knows Leon and they know how to use him. For all of Leon's good intentions, he is absolutely a government weapon with limited power of his own.
So we come to RE6. Over a decade has passed since RE2. Leon's come a long way. He's still a government agent, but he's definitely gained more power. For the first time, it's introduced that he and Benford are friends.
This is introduced while Leon is killing him.
In the decade since Benford was last seen, it's clear some things have changed for him. He went from using Leon as an asset to being friends with him, enough to discuss his rather controversial, dangerous plan with him. Benford was a part of the RC mess, and now he wants to bring it to light, a decision which ends with his death. He's one of those questionable people Leon put his faith in, and it paid off. Over a decade later, the truth about Raccoon City is going to come to light.
Benford dies for this, with Leon being forced to pull the trigger. Benford tried to bring about some justice. His own portion of things would inevitably be brought to light, too. To silence him, an entire city was wiped out, showing once again how dangerous Leon's enemy was. Leon faces an enemy with a thousand heads mixed in among a million more, an enemy with the power to assassinate a president, an enemy who has wiped out two American cities.
Leon isn't facing an individual like Wesker: he's facing the American government, with his enemies tied deeply within it, and many of his foes don't even realize they're foes or what they're doing. They are cogs in the machine, not realizing what's going on until it's too late.
RE6 and Benford shows that redemption is possible, shows the possible price of redemption, and shows how dangerous Leon's is. Leon ends the game by cutting off one head, and it's clear that there are many, many other heads which need cutting off. On the surface, going public about Raccoon City was definitely the Good and Right thing to do, and it ended with Leon needing to shoot his friend in the head and an entire city getting sacrificed.
Leon's arc is messy. His enemy isn't clear cut. It focuses on justice, it focuses on extending a hand to people, it focuses on how just because a BOW is easy to shoot the manufacturing of those BOWs is damned hard to stop. Many of the characters in Leon's games and movies aren't bad people: they're people who are trapped or think they're doing the right thing or people who weigh their options and think this is the best one for them. His stories are filled with people who try to kill him one minute and try to save him the next or are involved with BOWs but have limited options, too much desperation, or too little knowledge until it's too late how the BOW situation is going to end.
Leon's ultimate enemies can't be killed by a single bullet. Leon's problems can't be solved in one dramatic climatic scene. The people surrounding Leon aren't 100% good or 100% evil. As such, he extends his hand to people who aren't morally pure, to killers and traitors. He continues to work for the government even after he can possibly use enough of his political power to escape. Leon's story is messy and he remains stubbornly, painfully optimistic, anyway.
It's discouraging how many people see characters like Benford and go "Nope. You sinned and you are a sinner for life. There is no redemption. You made this awful mistake, and you are damned forever." Not only does that lessen the impact of RE6, but it also indicates that half of Leon's mission is pointless. There's no point in him offering his hand, there's no point in him offering mercy, and there's no point in them accepting if this viewpoint is right. Once a filthy sinner, always a filthy sinner, and that viewpoint sounds more horrifying than most of the RE content.

💕🎥💎!!
ok ok while my work computer is tied up crunching away at bird data:
💕 tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them!
Oh my god you've given me permission to just go off endlessly on Johnnie, you're a gem.
For the folks reading this who don't already know him, Johnnie Redmayne is an absolute joy. Kid brother to the two current (well, 1967 current) leaders of the World Enders gang, Johnnie is a thrillseeker, a hedonist, the type to leap before he looks, to live with zero regrets, and most of all, he just wants to have fun. There are a lot of implied but not explicit-in-text reasons for this that have to do with the World Enders being centered primarily in East LA, primarily nonwhite and/or of lower economic class, mostly young rebels during an era of counterculture but instead of the white hippie flower child route they're out there causing violence and mayhem and just loving every minute of it.
Anyway, Johnnie is also dead, murdered essentially in a drug dispute, though that's kind of underselling it but I won't rewrite the whole premise of Vide Noir here. But because this is the time and space and cosmic horror fuckery fantasy drug made from the ashes of dying stars and the void between time and space and reality or whatever, he's presumably confronted with some REALLY HORRIFIC things as his mind is slingshotted out into the void where the dead don't so much float as drown as they're fully overwhelmed with whatever goes on out there. And Johnnie? Well - who the heck does this. He's like "uhhh, no thanks! Nope, I hate this, and I'm not going peacefully, death sucks and is boring at best and really really fucked up at worst, so I'mma take a rain check and go back to where all the fun is. Seeya." And now he's a ghost, out making fun of Buck Vernon on midnight desert highways and probably causing a lot of problems for other people because that's way more fun than the alternative.
He's a character who has the potential to be saddled with so much darkness and misery, so much trauma, and I'm sure it's all in there but instead he's not going to dwell on it or make it his personality because that sucks man. He's taken the World Ender ethos to a new level - live your life how you want, die if it kills you who cares, and skipped past the dying normally part right back to the existing for the sake of finding joy in the chaos and destruction and the booze and the ladies and the not being crushed under the heel of cops and an oppressive society but instead sticking it right back to them.
Anyway this kid is hilarious and wonderful and I sure hope he surfaces in the next album and also Eddie Sandstrom is an absolute delight and he better come back to reprise his role even if he doesn't really look 18 anymore I don't really care.
I'm going to stop and move on now even though I really could keep going. Have a pic.
🎥 do you have any favorite scenes from your hyperfixation?
Buddy, it's the Dead Man's Hand scene in the movie, how could it not be. Hey Ben feel free to remake this all you like forever, you're doing great.
Also Until the Night Turns if that counts as a scene, because it does in the movie that plays in my head. Massively underrated song by the fandom, this does so much heavy lifting with the characterization and setting and people need to pay it more attention.
💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?
More! fun! facts! yes let's see. Oh, I think a fun one that's easy to miss is that we actually have an image of Buck Vernon's driver's license and the contents of his wallet. So now you can all know his birth date, height, eye color, etc plus the fact that he keeps SO MANY PHOTOS OF LEE with him. I love this kind of stuff. It's a movie prop that doesn't actually surface in the movie in a viewable form other than I think one of the photos, which is why this isn't on the wiki as not being in the movie itself makes it sort of borderline canon, but it's on the prop designer's website as an example of her work.

“Ada shouldn’t have treated Leon that way! I hate her!”
Listen. I love Leon so so so so so so much, but I think Ada was in her right to be mean and manipulative because he was a fucking cop! Doesn’t matter how nice and sweet and naive people think he is in RE2. Leon chose to become a cop. The structural system of law enforcement is corrupt in it’s function. If there was no outbreak in RC, Leon still managed to join one of the most corrupt police departments by accident. Even if he didn’t directly participate in the messed up shit happening with or without Umbrella, he’d either become complicit in the bullshit his cop friends were doing and let it happen, or he’d quit. Because there are no good cops! All of the good cops you hear stories of quit since they realized the system they were trying to challenge and make better wasn’t a task they could take on alone, and they were very much alone in their attempts while employed as cops.
Brad Vickers is the best example that the corruption in RPD was way to deep to handle considering he had to keep his head down and look away in order to even keep his job. Everyone else? Barry went into hiding. Chris left the country under the guise of a vacation to do further investigation. Jill got fucking suspended! There would be no amount of fixing Leon could feasibly do without immediate consequence and danger to his person, so he’d either quit, or become another shitty cop.
“But-, but- what about in RE4 when Ada’s not nice to him? :( He didn’t want to join US STRATCOM.”
I think Ada was absolutely within her full rights to be mean and manipulative to Leon, because he was a part of a very illegal secret government task force.
Also, I don’t know where this desire to baby Leon comes from post-raccoon city. I don’t mean emotionally, but I mean with his capabilities. Leon was trained to deal with this shit. Ada trusts him and his capabilities to remain mostly hands off. Leon trusts Ada and her capabilities to not go after her. He doesn’t even report her presence to Hunnigan, because he’s a big boy who knows the government will shift or split his priorities from saving Ashley to detaining/apprehending Ada even if that’s not what the president wants.
I don’t give a shit how much you dislike Ada, but stop saying you dislike her for Leon’s sake since that’s so disrespectful to him. He’s not an idiot. He’s not a baby. He may not always know what he’s getting into with Ada, but he does trust her to an extent. She trusts him to that same extent. It’s a strong mutual respect built on that trust even when they don’t see eye to eye on things. That’s why their dynamic is so interesting to explore in the first place. To be honest, I’m just happy the remakes seem to be putting Ada in the hands of more competent writers who aren’t flip flopping about how she should function in the narrative.
Like, honestly, the blandest hate takes on Ada in this tag always have me saying “god forbid women do anything!”

"You're crazy, Hammond. You're gonna get us all killed!"
I was watching TheRadBrad's playthrough of the Dead Space cashgrab Remake, and as it approached the end, I think the biggest problem I had with it by far was how they handled Zach Hammond.
The big draw of the game is the fact that Isaac has a voice in the remake. Gunner Wright does an okay job. It's pretty much on par with his other two performances in DS2 and DS3. I'm so accustomed to Silent Isaac, though, that a lot of the dialog for him (in the beginning) feels like "self-insert" dialog. It gets better towards the end (like there's a genuine sense that they were finding Isaac's voice as they figured out how to make him a proactive character).
But, regarding Hammond: I don't quite know how to put it into words, but Remake Hammond's characterization lacks any charisma. He's bland as hell. Anthony Alabi's performance isn't bad, but the direction and writing doesn't hide his 'okay-ness' as an actor. The story really makes Remake Hammond feel like an inexperienced commanding officer. There's no sense of wisdom or situational control.
The caustic the dynamic between him and Kendra Daniels is erased entirely, and I hate that. It played a big part in how Hammond and Kendra were characterized.
In the absence of it, it makes Kendra cop-jacketing Hammond more suspicious than in the original, because it's lacking that conflict (and the implication that these two people don't like each other before being stuck on a ship full of undead monsters).
Even with as little you got to see him in the 2008 original outside of transmission cinematics, it was how Peter Mensah characterized him that seemed to make him extremely present in the story. How he talks about helping Isaac find Nicole, how he tries to keep his cool when dealing with Kendra and the Necromorphs. There's also that sense of arrogance that comes with a position like his, that you see in his clash with Kendra (who also has an arrogance about her).
You don't really get that dynamic with either Kendra or Isaac in the remake. DSR minimizes Hammond's role in the game, by, I guess 'mid-point', when Isaac has to deal with hydroponics and the USM Valor. This appears largely in favor of the Elizabeth Cross and Jacob Temple subplot, and more back-and-forth dialog between Isaac and Kendra.
One thing I actually liked about OG Hammond was how little the Marker appeared to influence him. If anything poised a risk to Hammond's life, it was the deadly environment of the ship and the Necromorphs. The latter literally rips him apart, but he's of sound mind when it's happening. It hurts to watch him die so violently, even with Silent Isaac's exaggerated grief (or non-reaction IIRC).
The remake tries to insert this relationship with red shirts named Chen and Johnston to flesh Hammond out as a character. This is a change I would've appreciated if Chen and Johnston survived beyond the opening gambit to actually earn the ending they give Hammond. But they don't.
Hammond basically speed runs Marker Madness toward the end of the game, and gets a silly sacrificial death scene that leans hard on a relationship type that was better established in Dead Space: Extraction with Nathan McNeil and Gabe Weller.
I think Peter Mensah did a lot with the little he was afforded. As one of the two primary speakers in the game outside of Tonantzin Carmelo (OG Kendra's actor), he communicated the tension created by the no-win scenario that was the USG Ishimura outbreak.
And about Kendra Daniels, I personally loved how abrasive she was in the original, but this iteration of Kendra isn't bad (Brigitte Kali Canales is definitely the strongest performer in the game). I actually enjoyed the dimensionality they gave her (particularly in her dynamic with Isaac), even if they made her the "Evil Lesbian". I just wish they hadn't removed the beef between herself and Hammond.
(As far as remakes go, DSR isn't bad. It's a different take on the Visceral Games franchise. Some of its ideas land better than others. It just has the shitty luck of being a EA property still.)

One of the reasons i believe TV shows being released today is not working as good as it did in the 2000's, especially when we're talking about remakes/spin-off's/ sequels, is that we are not allowed to have horrible people an part of the main characters group anymore.
Think about the big hits of the 200's-2010's tv show. Gossip Girl: Blair had beef with a 13 years old, cheated on Nate with Chuck, Serena slept with her best friends boyfriend, was part of the reason a teenager die, Dan was Literally a stalker, Chuck ... is Chuck Bass.
The New version kinda of had a shot with season 1, especially with Max, he was involved in 2 cheatings, was sleeping with his tracher and only tried to expose him after he felt personally wronged ( and even than he went to Gossip Girl instead of the cops). Max was the type of messy that tv Shows need.
Pretty Little Liars: The whole show is about the girls being blackmailed by A because of the things they did with Alison.
The O.C: The main character starts the show being arrested.
One Tree Hill: How many cheating storylines can you give your protagonist before people start liking his brother more?
The Vampires diaries: Damon raped Caroline. And pretty much all the main characters kill at least 2 people.
Shows being made in the last couple of years don't allow their main character or their friends to be imperfect people wich makes the series boring. Nathan Scott is one of the most loved character in one tree hill and he starts as a complet jerk.
Part of watching this shows is about seeing the characters become better, but this doesn’t happen if they start perfect.
Just like when people complain that disney doesn’t make villains anymore, how every "villain" ends being some misunderstood person. Every once in a while could make a good story but not movie for the last 4-5 years.
Sotrie need villains, a person for you to hate, for you to love to hate or hate to love.

What would you say are good criticisms the way Leon and Ada are written?
*stretches fingers*
criticism of leon's writing
this is more of an overarching reason but a lot of the resident evil stories/games are extremely poorly written (take a look at the movies. they're all the same kind of story, nothing is really achieved and nothing is of stake. everything is the same before and after the thing that happened. they're just things that are told in a chronical order. they don't necessarily affect anything and don't change anything) if you remove one of them, nothing changes in the overall story.
the lack of consistency of leon written between all iterations. we already have several "retellings" of re2, the og timeline, the remake timeline, and the cgi films are somehow all supposed to be connected but also not?
one of the main criticisms i had actually was leon's characterization in re4r. they went with a much gritty version of leon, which MAKES SENSE, but it makes it harder for this version of leon to fit with the other versions of leon. the jump between vendetta -> death island leon, which is SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAME LEON, has such a jump in characterization.
SURE leon is depressed in vendetta, but we rarely get to see the transitional changes between these instances. so we rarely get to see HOW he heals. (it's ada's pussy curing his alcoholism also aeon child cause DI leon is 100% a father)
the change from re2 leon to re4 leon is probably the change that makes the most sense. it's explained, and there's REASONS to why his characterization has changed from bright eyed rookie cop to trained agent.
BUT with the re4r characterization, i have even MORE problems with it since re4 leon already had a vast change between then and then damnation -> re6 leon
but now we have no idea how re4r leon would change to ID Leon, which is also SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAME LEON. HOW IS HE DIFFERENT AGAIN.
and furthermore, because of the various voice actors and lack of consistency, we have even more versions of leon that don't make it seem like it's the same person.
he's either fucking depressed or TOTALLY FINE, and it's JARRING AF to be slapped between the two.
i wish there was more consistency between the leon versions, and also just more thoughtful writing. at least with the games we have more of his "cringe one liners," but also exposition that can show how he's feeling. with the movies it seems like it's just "ZERO, YOU WANTED TO KNOW HOW MANY THERE WERE" "GONNA ADD TOUR GUIDE TO MY RESUME" AND THERE'S NO SUBSTANCE.
in writing (fanon)
leon's either written as a dom (which makes me cringe) or abusive (which makes me mad) or that he hates ada (which is just canonically untrue.) men who also just hate ada, i see as a red flag.
men who would rather ship leon with claire (a girl who DOES NOT LIKE LEON THAT WAY) as opposed to Ada who canonically cares/would do anything for leon, but is flawed, shows me that you just want the idea of a woman.
this is actually why i stopped reading leon x reader fics after re4r releasing. because leon's characterization in fics were always kind of poor, but after re4r released, his writing was just not even leon anymore. it was just a way to write your fantasies for your self inserts. (WHICH IS FINE, it's just not for me anymore)
i'd rather read leon x ada fics as they tend to have more substance than just porn
criticism of ada's writing
because of the lack of upbringing/backstory for ada, it's hard to tell where she lays morally.
the extreme changes between damnation ada -> re6 ada is pretty vast. the ending scene of her "adding more criminal charges to her name" to saving sherry's, jakes, helena's, Leon's and random civilians lives makes it weird. and then wanting to clear her name because of carla makes it odd
like YES it makes sense, but we STILL don't really know what/why ada does what she does.
i've always preferred re6 ada because we can actually play more of her campaign and have it outside of just being about leon as opposed to separate ways which is just "ada saving leon," campaign (i usually prefer game ada as opposed to movie ada but that's also because of the limitations of film as opposed to game)
re6 ada we see more of her feelings, thoughts, motivations, and it just seems to explore more of her. i just wish we had more of that.
in damnation we have a very flirty, snarky, double crossing ada, which ALSO MAKES SENSE, but i wish we had more clear motivations for her. (does she fuck over another person because she just wants to?)
ada has always been seen as morally grey, leaning towards more good towards the later of the series for her.
capcom please bring back mother, we haven't seen her since 2012. fuck you capcom, i'm in your walls
again, maybe i just prefer aeon specifically with more substance.
the people who shit on lily gao for wanting to break the stereotypes of what ada wong was written to be really shows that you never cared about ada other than the fact that she was a sexy woman.
ngl it's DISGUSTING to me that people thought that lily wanting to characterize ada as MORE THAN JUST A SEX SYMBOL SHOWS ME WHAT YOU ONLY WANTED FROM ADA.
we KNOW that ada can be kind, gentle AND STRONG. she's always been more than just sexy and devious. she's more than a stereotype.
and since re6 ada had always been a bit more of the soft side to me, i'd love to see lily take on the role of re6r ada if they do make it.
the fact that ada is supposed to be mysterious is old, and i want to know more about her already
in writing (fanon)
i've been very vocal about the character assassination and blatant mischaracterization of ada in fanfic.
if you wanna write leon x reader self inserts, DO IT. just LEAVE ADA OUT OF IT. the fact that you need to project your insecurities/flaws onto ada is just sad and pathetic.
it's lazy writing to just have reader be a perfect girl and then have ada as the foil to it all.
i don't mind leon x readers that write ada canonically. especially with leon still having feelings for ada. THOSE ARE FINE IMO
also the whole madonna whore complex is STRONG with how yall think/write about ada.
ada has ALWAYS cared about leon, she's also just more willing to hurt his feelings than letting him get physically hurt. she'd do anything to keep him safe, even if she can't keep herself safe in his heart.
the people who write that ada ALWAYS uses/manipulates Leon and then gets him killed, just don't know how to write imo. it's LAZY writing.
anyways. i hate how people write ada in leon x readers, and that's the main reason why i stopped reading them
tl;dr the writing of resident evil has always been kind of poor/repetitive and also inconsistent. the writing of leon and ada (in fics) are mischaracterized so much, i stopped reading a lot of them (not including au's. au's can be goofy af, that's fine.)

I'm so sorry if you've talked about this before, but if not, i wanted to ask you what's your opinion on 4make Leon? Do you think he's still a bit like that 21 yr old rookie he was in Racoon City?
:)
Eeeeeee thank you for the ask!! I talked about the ways Leon changes between 2 and 4 a bit in this post (and specifically the second part in the reblog), but more in a general sense. To get more specific, I think re4r Leon still has the same core values he did when he was a baby boy rookie - he's kind, he's selfless, he wants to help people so badly - but Raccoon City made an open wound out of him, and the intervening years between then and when we meet him again in 4 have scabbed the wound over and then mangled him with emotional scar tissue.
Let's start with some good: re2r Leon had kind of a naive trust in authority figures that led him to do some shitty stuff. I'm thinking specifically not letting the reporter out of the holding cell, insisting he has to talk to Irons first, because there must be a reason he's in there, right? Even in the face of a zombie apocalypse, Rookie Leon was like, "The carceral system makes sense, actually." And I'm sure him helping Ada, and being so difficult to dissuade from doing so in the end, had to do not just with his crush on her, but also with her telling him she was FBI. The one time his easy trust of authority figures pays off is with Marvin, but let's not talk about that 🥺
Re4r, on the other hand, opens with Leon basically monologuing about how much he hates the government and then having an uneasy car ride with two cops. You get the distinct impression that he's trying to be civil but he finds the implication that they don't want to be there or help him kinda distasteful. He sees them for what they are: lazy country cops who don't take their duties seriously, and that ticks him off. So right off the bat we see a Leon who's kinda withdrawn (he spends most of the cutscene staring out the car window) and who hasn't retained that blind adoration of a police uniform.
Him meeting Luis and immediately clocking him as 'fishy' is another great character beat. In the OG he just takes Luis at his word about being a cop, but in the remake he asks Hunnigan to look into him, which not only shows us he's not as naive anymore, but actually helps advance their story and relationship in a way the OG never did. They get to have that confrontation later about Luis working for Umbrella, and then Leon has to work his way towards trusting Luis enough to rely on him for the medicine and for help getting to Ashley.
So he's less naive, which is the good, but the bad.... Oh man, the bad... Along with his naivete in 2, he was also kind of an optimist. That's been almost thoroughly beaten out of him by 4 - he's withdrawn, quiet, depressed, and traumatized. We see it so clearly because it stands in such stark contrast to his central motivation in the game: that this time it can be different. He hasn't fully given up on optimism; there's a tiny spark of it in his heart still, and all throughout 4 he's desperate to keep it alive by trying to save Ashley, to connect with Ada, to trust Luis, even in trying to talk Krauser down while they fight.
It feels like in 4 he's mourning the rookie he used to be. He's not as trusting or earnest or open. Instead, he's closed off and brooding, and he uses humour as a crutch, as a way to distance himself from the horror of the situation he's in. So he's clearly developed some unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with his trauma.
I know you didn't ask about 6, but I think what they do with a 6 remake could be really interesting in how things go for Leon from here! 6, as it is now, and the way it segues into Vendetta, follows a through line of a Leon whose little flame of optimism pretty much gets extinguished. In re4 OG we don't get the ending cutscene of him and Ashley looking hopefully at the sunrise, and I think that could be the crux of things going differently for him. The 'things could be different' premise gets resolved in the remake - things ARE different this time! I really hope they carry that over to the rest of the remakes and don't take Leon down the same road of depression and alcoholism... That's a lot to hope for, since it seems like they intend for Vendetta to remain canon, but that's what I want to see, personally.
I want Leon to reclaim the positive aspects of the rookie he used to be, now that he's shed the negatives, and to fan that little flame of hope in his heart until he fucking burns with it!! Resi in general could use some hope, I think!! I'm just not a fan of where they left Leon at the end of Death Island, as this flippant, resigned guy who, ok, is not an alcoholic anymore, but now he's just a toy soldier. Same with Chris in 8, kinda, but that's a whole other can of worms!
Thank u for the ask again - I hope my Leon rambling answered your question 😅

TW FOR BLOOD AND A EATING DISORDER (For video)
Lore update for Ethan and Logan, The teddy bear and Dinner is not over video isn't canon anymore and will be remade probably.
(Compy and pasted from discord)
LORE UPDATE!
(Long text)
Tw for depression, eating disorder and manipulation (from a internet standpoint)
So Ethan had always felt depressed and insecure about himself and one day when watching videos he found a website which he thought was helpful but in reality it was a scam website, giving false important and "diets" to make you look better and be healthier which lead to self doubt to Ethan and trapped in rabbit hole of this fake website. Later he ended up gaining a eating disorder, not eating much and not enjoying the things he loved anymore. After finally getting medical help he was recommended a therapist (Hmm I wonder-) and was given help, until his good one disappeared/went missing which made him be sent to Logan.
I'm changing Logan a bit with his relationship with Ethan.
Logan is jealous about Ethan as he reminds of his past self with his strict mother and the trauma he faced which made him react negatively to him and said rude things that he felt he would say to himself(Something that he would regret later)
Logan never hated Ethan but disliked him A LOT (before the "incident")
"The incident"
I changed it to were Logan didn't kill Ethan like in the teddy bear video(probably will remake)
This time After a argument between the two, Ethan ran away and went to his home before a break in happened and he was murdered by someone unknown, Logan realizing he hasn't been coming back made him a bit worried and went to his apartment to see if he was okay before finding his body. The Neighbors heard his reaction before finding him over his body and called the cops, After hours of research, no fingerprints were found on Ethan and the weapon wasn't found but Logan took the blame as he was the last person Ethan saw and the coworkers at the Theriapst heard the argument so Logan was taken to jail on false claims before he suddenly was "killed" in the jail as they had no idea how he died.
I just didn't think it fit for Logan to kill Ethan, over a teddy bear- LOL
He still treats Ethan like trash after wards as Trollges and had tried killing him a few times out of anger or his Trollge tendencies taking a hold on him but is slowly starting to view him differently and probably will finally apologize and change but rn he's a chaotic neutral
So they eventually before "friends" or more like "I don't like you but I tolerate you enough to let you chill with me" lol
Also to add to Ethan,Ethan is in a constant flight or fright survival instinct cause Aurora Woods,Screaming tree and other Trollges that use territory as there main point have threatened him before(Especially Aurora woods/Note he can talk in my au and isn't like a animal like in Friday night incident)
So yeah he only has his wings and teddy bear for comfort, the wings to fly away and Teddy bear to comfort him.

I love your writing!! :3 may I request the Seduce Me boys with an actor S/O? ^^
Thank you so much!! I love this idea!!
Warnings: none, just fluff
Navigation!! / Masterlist!!!
James:
he's very understanding that your schedule is all over the place
he also knows that you want the relationship to be private, you tell him you don't want him to be a victim of the media and he agrees
though he knows press and publicity wouldn't bother him, he knows it clearly bothers you
You two spend time together when you aren't filming, and sometimes if you're on set and nearby, he'll visit you with food, which forces you to take a break
He really likes watching you on screen, he feels like you become a different person, he likes seeing the people you could be
really helpful when it comes to practicing your lines
he's surprisingly really good at acting, sometimes you joke he could be an actor too
Erick:
He was probably a fan before you two started dating
When he met you he tried really hard to keep his cool, and for the most part her did, pretty calm
but he did ask you out on the spot
thank the heavens he has good looks because you said yes
and now you two are happily dating :)
he likes helping you decide what rolls you do and don't take
he's also a drama queen, so he helps you practice your lines and go through scenes
helps a lot in hair and makeup, his critiques are always appreciated
your relationship is known to the public, but you both keep it as private as possible
he doesn't mind the publicity, as long as they don't cross boundaries and make you uncomfortable he's okay
you also model for his boutique ;)
Sam:
this man did not have a clue that you were famous
when you told him he thought you were pranking him
until he saw you on TV and was like oh shit she was serious
watches your movies over and over
he'll ask you to act out scenes in front of him
is just here for moral support
hates the paparazzi, he thinks they're annoying and rude
since he's a cop he tells them they'll get sued for trespassing on private property which usually works
he'll go with you to movie premiers and release parties, he thinks they're entertaining
Matthew:
you guys probably make tiktoks together
he's your biggest fan
dm'd you one day and didn't think you'd actually answer, but you did and now you two are together
he'll act out scenes with you, on and off set
he also watches your movies so much he'll quote your character regularly
heaven forbid you're in a movie that's a remake of a book he's read
he will be OVER THE MOON about it
overall just super supportive and really loves you
he's always there if you get too stressed and need a break
feels like the paparazzi is a bit annoying, but he knows they're only doing their jobs so he tries not to argue too much
he'll usually stop if you stop, sometimes you guys pose, sometimes you ask for space, depends on the day
Damien:
such a sweetheart
you were shooting outside for a movie, and a coffee truck was there, damien thought it was open to the public but when you asked if he was an extra he just said ' no, i'm human...'
cue you laughing your ass off, you thought it was the funniest thing in the world
it was also nice he didn't know who you were exactly
until he saw you put a wig on and was like 'oh you're that actress'
he tries not to make a big deal out of things
watches you act on set during his free time
he loves how immersed you get in your character and how well you can pull it off
feels like the paparazzi need to find new jobs :/, they make him anxious, he hates them
he'll bring little snacks and coffee to your trailer and help clean it up when filming is done for the day

hi almandine ! i hope ur having a wonderful day ; are u taking breaks and eating well ? idk if the semesters are as long as they are for me bc i know we live in different places, but i wish u so much good luck for ur studies as the end of the academic year approaches 🫶 i wanted to ask, what kind of person is leon? what does he do, whats the world he lives in like, and how do u see him thru ur eyes? my only exposure to him is through .. online mods and gifs ive seen of him go viral, u probably know the ones LOL, but i wanted to learn abt him from u if thats okay 🫶 (@dmclr)
Our semester has pretty much come to its conclusion — my first final is in…. 18 days? Just a little over two weeks, which is a terrifying thought. I’ve been trying to see to my needs and give myself a break and here though! <3 I just hope you’ve been taking care of yourself the same way? Please don’t let yourself drown in academic or other stressors, and know that with as strong as you are, you can overcome anything.
The online mods…. Yeah, I’ve. seen a couple. They’re, something certainly. (My reaction to that information v)
What does he do? Well, he was a cop— just started his job, actually (like one day? literally one day? It was the first day?), but then pretty much got hired by The President and got employment as a government agent for the United States. Fun.
The Resident Evil world is… interesting? Kind of like if, “fuck around and find out” and, “instead of asking if you can, ask if you should” combined. There’s biological weapons running rampant, including dogs, literal zombies (but we don’t call them zombies, no), and uh…. Huge grey men?
Say hi to him. He will not die. You cannot kill him. You cannot kill anything in this stupid universe actually. My favourite Resident Evil game, Resident Evil 7 (which… ironically doesn’t have Leon in it) literally features this one stupid fucking Southern family (whom I love so sweetly) and the father, Jack Baker, just will. Not. Die. You know how in games you get to experience different boss battles? Yes, well, I don’t remember how many boss battles are in RE7, but I will tell you this: 3 of them belong to Mr. Baker ENTIRELY. He just mutates worse and worse and you keep thinking he is dead but he is NOT. You kill his wife and she dies but no, he just won’t fucking die. And then you buy the DLC and you play as the big, strong, veteran uncle who just PUNCHES THINGS INSTEAD OF USING WEAPONS AND IT SOMEHOW FUCKING WORKS and guess who the big bad is! You’ll never guess! You’ll never figure it out! That’s right! It’s Jack Fucking Baker for the fourth god damn time and now he looks even more disgusting and corrupted. Although the game did not include Leon (it held Ethan Winters, a darling father), it’s still set in the same universe so I feel like you can get a pretty good… idea from all of that, yes? Remember ! Nothing. Dies. If you think it’s dead, it is not, it is simply now More aware of your existence.
Now, onto the actual man himself.
First of all? Not related to my view on him but he’s was… kind of misogyny-coded in the original Resident Evil 4 and that makes me giggle a little but I still somehow prefer that RE4 to the 2023 Remake. I know I reblog gifs of the remake a lot and that is simply because, I mean, who doesn’t enjoy experiencing their silly guy with better graphic quality, right? But I don’t like the alterations they did to certain scenes and dialogues. Also he looked like this in the original re4 which scares me more than the undying mutated abominations so, I. Well.
(^ NOT RELATED TO THE MISOGYNY HE WAS SUFFERING FROM DISEASE HE WAS ILL)
Okay, okay, anyway…. I HATE how the fandom views him, it stresses me out. They view him as this demanding, super serious, violent, brooding man who just wants a stupid, ditzy, useless girlfriend he can dominate, control and be a creep towards but that’s… not him? Like, how do you mess up so bad. This isn’t a particular part of the fandom as much almost the majority of it, sadly.
I feel like he’d, if anything, be a “wife guy”; he has a stressful job, he is traumatised beyond belief, he looks death in the eyes on a regular basis, he lost his parents when he was young, he has went through a-lot. And yet he’s so gentle, he still believes in saving everyone. He still believes in humanity and has this hope in him. He is still… soft. I don’t think he’d be a controlling or aggressive partner; I think he just wants something comforting to come back to, and he’d be SO grateful to have a partner who sticks by him through thick or thin, he’d be so genuinely giddy while taking about them. He lost his parents for fuck’s sake and got stuck in this godforsaken infected world when he was just 21… he wants home, I think more than anything he wants to come back to a place where he doesn’t have to think, where things can be handled for him and all he has to do is let himself be loved. Praised and acknowledged for once in his (somewhat miserable, let’s be honest) life. I mentioned, while answering Lucy’s ask, that I view him as a guard dog, and I think that’s perfect for him. He exists to protect — he has dedicated himself to that protection, to offering that canopy. His aggression is never on the offence, it has never been; not once, but it is done as a protective measure. If the years have reduced Ajax to a sword then they have reduced Leon to a shield. He just wants his efforts acknowledged — he just wants praise and warmth and comfort — and yet are they ever? At-least, to the degree they deserve? He falls into a depressive state in Resident Evil: Vendetta and it stings. He is such a simple man and I genuinely believe domesticity could fix him. He has never known what it’s like to feel safe — why would anyone want to force him to be a protector even in his partnership, even in intimacy? Let him relax for fuck’s sake. Let him. know what it’s like to be on the other end for once in his life. Comfortable clothes, hand holding on a warm cup of tea rather than a gun or a knife. No news channels and no social media or nothing. Phone on DND. I do not care if the USA burns to the ground, I want him to rest his head on my shoulder and finally get the sleep he hasn’t had in years. Civilian lives can wait a few hours to be saved.

Okay, so apologies! I am a new fan in a way, I have been playing all the games of Resident Evil or trying at least. I have played through Resident Evil 1 Remake, and currently, I'm in Resident Evil 5. I don't understand why people are so forced to believe the things are the same. Like Ada in the original obviously sells plagas despite Ada Remake obviously has a bit of guilt. And I understand the frustration of Resident Evil 6, especially when the movies are suppose to clarify their story. (Like Damnation is suppose to explain they have met around and why Resident Evil 6 is its sequel for Aeon)
This timeline is stupidly messy. Especially with its useless moments. This world needed a remake, but people are just blinded, still believing everything is the same. Like, people don't care about these characters or their stories. They do realize their characters look like dicks if they continued their old ways. And I don't get why Resident Evil 4 was Leon's, I'm guessing because he was the pretty boy.
It's just pathetic that we don't see Wesker until 5 and we have to play Veronica and revelations to see Wesker. And he fucking dies in 5.
Anyways, I love Chris and Sheva. I'm excited to play 6 to see that mess and see why fans either love or hate this game.
so i'm not sure what you mean by this:
They do realize their characters look like dicks if they continued their old ways. And I don't get why Resident Evil 4 was Leon's, I'm guessing because he was the pretty boy.
and wesker was in 4, so i'm also not sure what you mean by saying "we don't see Wesker until 5."
but as far as the first part is concerned...
me and @godtier had a really long conversation about this a few days ago. on top of the checklist mentality that old fans went into the remakes with, RE2 remake in particular was written how fans remembered the game, and not how the game actually was.
what i mean is.
in OG RE2, leon is kind of a fucking dick. he's an asshole cop with an ego who tries to throw his weight around and then whines when no one follows his authority. but that's not how the fandom remembers him in that game. fandom remembers him as being a naive optimistic Good Boy uwu who gets screwed over big time and doesn't deserve it. so that's how the remake was written.
in OG RE2, ada's actually kind of soft and well-mannered, and the affection that she shows for leon is genuine. but that's not how fandom remembers her in that game. fandom remembers her as being That Spy Bitch Who Manipulated Leon. so that's how the remake was written.
in OG RE2, claire is a nice girl with an exceptional amount of patience who tries to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. but that's not how fandom remembers her in that game. fandom remembers her as A Redfield(TM) with a short temper who doesn't take any shit. so that's how the remake was written.
so when you have the game being written in a way that matches up with people's (false) memories in addition to the checklist mentality that fans went into the game with, yeah, you get people going "this is exactly how it was in OG."
what blows my mind is that new fans buy into this, too, when they're the ones who should be listening to the bullshit old fans are saying and going "but that's not true."

movie buff questions: any number with a 6 in it. <3
6. Favorite movie from the 90’s? Literally the first one I thought of was Hocus Pocus. So I'm going with that. It's goddamn incredible anyway.
16. Ever watched a movie just because you heard the effects were awesome? YES! Dawn of the Planet of The Apes. saw it in theaters like 10 times throughout the summer after graduating high school bc the theater was right down the block. shit is insane.
26. Best experience going to the movies Honestly the most recent was Everything Everywhere All At Once. My first viewing was on opening week and that was a PHENOMENAL audience to be a part of- especially recently. Also I will never forget the energy that was in the theater after The Grand Budapest Hotel. shit was awesome.
36. Movie quote you live by? lmao it's not from a movie but for years I had this quote up on my facebook page from Westworld "You can't play God without being aquainted with the Devil". Facts man. Thanks A-Hop.
46. Favorite cop film? Gonna go with Fargo on this one I think. Feels right.
56. Movie you completely nerd-out over every time it’s mentioned? Lord of the Rings. You will always get me with Lord of the Rings. No question. No doubt. I have so many lotr related facts and anecdotes and prop replicas.
60. Most visually stunning movie you’ve seen? God I can't choose. I really can't. so many movies are too beautiful I cannot pick just one. help me god.... OK 1917. that bitch has so much going for it.
61. A movie your parents introduced you to? lmao so many. kudos to them tho for taking me to Spirited Away at the ripe old age of baby.
62. Favorite genre? Gothic (clearly- and it's not the same as horror writ. large- there's a difference, even though many horror films overlap with gothic films as well and the whole horror genre literally owes everything to Gothic fiction but I digress)- also because there's lots of elements that go into gothic from other genres like romance and comedy that people tend to forget about- and I'll always take a good genre mix any day over just... one plain old thing? I like a Genre Ensemble if you will and Gothic covers that the best I think.
63. Least favorite genre? Hallmark Rom-coms. sitcoms in general. or reality tv shit or documentaries (lotta people say they're "unbiased" but the nature of perspective and subjectivity in film is bias. never as fully informative of facts as they purport to be and I can't stand the fuckin things. boring as sin).
64. Comedy movie that you didn’t find funny? First one I thought of was Bridesmaids. Deadass. I don't think a lot of mainstream comedies do humor very well anyway. Also fucking anything written by James Gunn that man literally only knows how to write one movie and it was guardians of the galaxy vol. 1 and literally everything he's done since has been copy-pasted from that script (and especially suicide squad. hate that move so much forever and always what a piece of shit).
65. Horror movie that didn’t scare you? Most don't??? not that bad anyway. Fucking M3gan was literally the most unscary shit I've ever seen recently tho. but then again I grew up on Child's Play like I'm immune to freaky doll shit.
66. Favorite remake of an old movie? ok but dicks out for the planet of the apes remakes. I'm so serious. Andy Serkis put his whole pussy into that monkey.
67. A movie that started a passion for you? um... this is kindof a hard question to answer because movies/shows made me want to persue writing/directing as a career. There have been a lot of them, and the more I see the more I want to do it, so the list is ongoing, but LOTR and Joker 2019 are the two biggest contributors that I can think of off the top of my head. LOTR bonus features are what I lived for and got me passionate about the actual filmmaking process and special effects and stuff, Joker is the one that solidified for me the career choice.
68. A movie that sparked an interesting conversation? in my household The Godfather will never not be the film that sparks interesting conversations- bc my dad worked with a guy that was up for the part of sollazzo, and he was on the books and getting payed and everything when Marlon Brando requested that a guy he knew play the part instead, so he got the boot. BUT!! since he was on the books there was a term in his contract that he get residuals anyway- and so he still does. he was at my parent's wedding and everything. crazy shit.
69. The main movie you remember from your childhood? my childhood was filled with them. Can't be specific about this one I'm afraid. Just trust me. Many.

ohhicas replied to your ask post: James had to ask Hartley directly in the comics why the hell he gave a shit what happened to the others after how they treated him so like 💀 Remake killed a lot of the nuances of "oh they absolutely cared he was gay. Very specific ones did not care, and removing that difference killed a lot of the uniqueness of the group's relationships with each other"
This I agree with, though in the modern era I still think the guys may be due for an overhaul. They can have differing opinions on Hartley's reform and political views, and some might not care but others might have big problems with it. Another source of potential conflict is Hartley dating a cop, which the Rogues undoubtedly have feelings about. I think there's room for real tension between him and them that doesn't involve them being hateful.
belphegor1982 replied to your ask post: And that's why my relationship to DC comics canon (whatever the hell that may be) is basically the kind you have to a somewhat distant relative you used to see fairly regularly once upon a time but now you just kinda check in on sometimes in a "so what are they up to these days" way. The version of the Rogues that lives in my head is both very specific and incredibly vague for that very purpose.
That's fair. For me, the good thing about fiction is that nobody actually got hurt and so it isn't a huge deal when a fictional character does something terrible (I don't necessarily like it and it might make me uncomfortable, but a real person/animal wasn't hurt). But not everyone sees things that way, and that's understandable. Plus, everyone draws the line somewhere at the types of media they immerse themselves into, so for example I generally avoid gore and horror. Comic book supervillains doing their thing might be too much for others.
belphegor1982 replied to your ask post: One “the Rogues are all straight except for Piper” headcanon I do have though is that any and all of them could have fallen under the queer umbrella if 1) they’d grown up/lived in different circumstances and 2) if they’d let themselves be queer. The hyper masculinity they show could be interpreted as performative for fear of being perceived as even more Other than they already were. belphegor1982 replied to your ask post: That doesn’t stop me as seeing James as pan, Mick as ace (or somewhere on the ace spectrum anyway), Len also possibly grey ace and maybe bi (again, if he’d give himself permission), Mark as gender fluid, etc. That’s the beauty of headcanons - it’s all a big sandbox and open to interpretation!
Indeed, well said :)
demonbirdsforever replied to your ask post: I didn’t realize that stuff had happened. I understand you have your view now. We all just have to remember that comic characters change by whose hands they end up in. So I think the homophobia you mentioned is more a writer problem than a character problem. It’s like Trigon, everyone says he’s a demon but he’s not really. He’s is EVIL or as he put it, Celestial Blasphemy. That’s why I’m okay with other opinions on characters, to degree…
Oh for sure, there's no reason any given continuity will stick around forever -- which is both the beauty and the bane of comics. That's why I'm hopeful that DC will update them at some point, but hopefully it won't take ages to happen.
I will say though that this might be a hazard of being a fan of villains: it's pretty unlikely that they'll be unproblematic like, say, Superman might be. That doesn't mean they're all going to be hateful bigots or that we should like it if they are, but a lot of them might do or say things at times that the audience doesn't like. That's something we have to come to terms with, because even the nicest Rogues have done horrible things at some point…you have to take the bad with the good.
it-is-i-zim replied to your text post: Confession: I didn't really read most of Identity Crisis. Most of what I read was issue 5 out of context. And now I feel kinda stupid but in my heart I know him randomly murdering some guy is out of character. And that's what counts it-is-i-zim replied to your text post: Out of context it just looked like he was breaking and entering. And then got shot for breaking and entering.
No, he was hired to kill Jack Drake…it was a whole thing, the story just gets worse the more you hear about it. You're better off not reading it.
