There seems to be a general malaise on most of Tumblr about TikTok getting banned in the United States.

I understand the problems, "brain rot", whatever but- A government banning a social media app that opened the world for many people is legitimately scary and upsetting. Say what you want but, there are MANY global and local issues that would not have gotten the same traction, recognition, and outreach without TikTok.

And then add to this that Meta/Facebook was one the largest lobbyists working to get TikTok banned... Like- I think folks should be more concerned about the implications of what this means, especially since the ban goes into effect the day before inauguration.

One of the craziest things I’ve seen come out of these discussions was that period of time where transandrophobes were insistent that the only comprehensible interpretation of Steven Universe was that Steven is a transfem egg and you’re a transmisogynist for saying otherwise. Like. I’m not even going to say obviously that you’re not allowed to have that headcanon but. Steven Universe. You know, the show where the male main character gets deadnamed (literally, Rose is dead), misgendered, forcefully feminized by family and has to say over and over again that he is not the person they want him to be. That people are crazy for interpreting this as a transmasculine allegory. Okay.

Lilo & Stitch is, and probably will remain for the foreseeable future, the Disney animated film that is more antithetical to everything about Disney as a company than any other Disney animated film. Unfortunately it is also owned by Disney which effectively commodified every subsequent use of the characters back into conformity with every other Disney property. Which leaves the original film itself kind of an orphan - isolated from its creator by its own nature, its various sequels and merchandise and etc belonging to Disney with no bearing on the film, and innately difficult to engage with on its own terms by the nature of the larger population of the Disney fandom also aligning more with Disney as a corporation and not that specific film.

It's almost like some kind of secret experimental creation which normally would have been destroyed by all the acceptable corporate governance under Disney, but it managed to escape and find the weirdos and exiles of the world who could appreciate it or something
