It kind of. saddens me that Taki is always left out whenever the 4 boys (Natsume/Nishimura/Kitamoto/Tanuma) are hanging out.

Especially in the manga - the anime actually seems to try to include her more, and because in the manga Sasada isn't here it really feels like Taki's the only one excluded because.... idk, she's The One Girl of Natsume's friends lol.

Which is amusing because in the fandom she's pretty regularly included with the boys, even when it follows the manga without Sasada; when in reality in canon she's... never really been shown to be friends with Kitamoto & Nishimura. And it's like, okay on the one hand I sort of get it because I know from experience some teenage groups can sometimes have a clear boys/girls gender divide... but Taki still frequently hang out with Natsume and Tanuma and her being the only girl here doesn't seem to matter, so I don't see why it would be an issue for her to also hang out with Nishimura and Kitamoto?

It'd be fine to me if it were only some chapters/arcs where it's just the 4 boys together, but I can't recall a single one where it's the 4 boys AND Taki. Chapters where Taki are included are always only with Natsume & Taki or Natsume & Taki & Tanuma. That's especially weird given, rereading the culture festival chapter (chapter 27), the ending implies Taki was invited with Natsume and Tanuma to go fishing with Nishimura and Kitamoto. In the eastern forest arc (chapters 34-36), we know she went to the summer festival with them too (even if, again, on the last page there's only the 4 boys and Taki is nowhere to be seen. for some reason.)

So technically she should be at least kind of friends with Nishimura & Kitamoto by now already, but it's never shown on panel...? Again there's a few times where I think it's fine if Taki's not here, like the Tanuma arc where they go to his aunt's inn (chapters 66-67); it was a Tanuma arc and so it had to be focused on him, especially given the arc right before it was a Taki arc where Tanuma doesn't appears (chapters 64-65). (Though arguably she still could have come, given the mirror yokai arc was also a Tanuma arc and she still played a minor role here without overshadowing Tanuma.)

But then, why wasn't she invited during the childhood home arc when the boys went to look for a soda spring in the forest (chapters 44-46)? Or at the special 20 where they go see Natori's movie together? What about chapter 111 which was all about Natsume spending time and chilling with his friends at the beach? How come during the Man Upstairs painting/Tenjou-san arc (chapter 90-91) Taki wasn't the FIRST choice they go to to seek information!! They're investigating a legend about an an old painting - you KNOW that Taki, who lived her whole life in that town and especially who had a grandpa who spent his life collecting legends and is very knowledgeable on the topic, would have been the best person to know the most about it!! She would've had so much fun too!! But apparently that didn't even cross their mind to go ask her? (Though I guess you could argue she would've solved the mystery in 2 minutes then lol, but still. I don't see why she couldn't have investigated with the boys orz) There's not even a mention of "yeah I asked Taki but she said she couldn't" like?

It's just that every time I see the 4 boys together without Taki I feel like shaking Natsume and Tanuma by the shoulders and be like hey!! Taki's your bestie too!!! why are you not inviting her!!!

It just feel really sad to me too given we know Taki literally doesn't have any other friends besides Natsume and Tanuma. Ever since she got cursed she got very isolated from others at school, and it's not until CHAPTER 96 that she starts talking again to her classmates. So like, when she's not with Natsume & Tanuma, she's just... all alone. That's why this exclusion is just weird to me cause it feels like the boys don't notice this or just. always leave her all alone, when they could very easily invite her to join their group. Even if Chapter 96 implies she now has at least 1 friend it's still fairly recent and it's not been developed since then.

This is kind of funny to me sometimes too because Midorikawa always write in her afterwords how much she loves girls and wish she could draw them more but like. She still seems stuck in the All Boys Gang and never let Taki in. Midorikawa I love you but you can't complains about not drawing girls if you always refuses to include your second most important female character lmao (Taki always gets left out of official merch stuff too orz)

At least the anime tries to include her a bit more here and there and to show she has this friendship with Sasada so she seems a bit less isolated and left out; like they actually added her at the end of the Eastern forest arc, of the childhood home arc and even in the school trip episode (she wasn't here in chapter 79). (Though the problem with the anime is that this added inclusion often doesn't feel organic, especially with Sasada.)

Anyway. Can we PLEASE let Taki be friends with Nishimura & Kitamoto and tries to at least have ONE chapter where she hang out with the 4 boys T_T

any/all fandoms, whichever you feel like talking about!

oh man I feel like I'm such a chicken though in that when I find characters really difficult to write I just end up avoiding writing them. because I was just thinking about it though (and keep running into it, for obvious reasons) I'm going to say that I have a really hard time writing Porsche and I feel weird about it, because I feel like it shouldn't be as hard for me as it is and yet I do not feel like I can get a satisfying handle on his character that makes me feel confident in how I'm writing him.

also Wei Wuxian, actually. it's weird because he was definitely the first character I latched onto in that canon, and yet I don't think I've ever felt confident in my ability to write him, particularly from his own perspective. and it's not an unreliable narrator thing! I really don't know what it is, I just have a hard time feeling like I've got a solid grip on his voice. I feel like I can write him from outside fine enough but trying to dig into his actual head is weirdly difficult.

maybe I have a protagonist problem, is what this sort of starts to look like.

other characters I have struggled to write in the past...mostly comes back to "characters I have avoided writing because the prospect of trying is daunting to me", which is a category that includes, among others, Lan Xichen.

oh!! a character I do write a fair amount who is actually somewhat difficult for me to access is Xiao Xingchen, who is easily the one of the Yi City quadrant who I feel least comfortable in terms of writing from his perspective.

which I think is more often where I struggle with writing characters - less writing them in general, more when I am writing from their perspective, because my third person limited tends to get pretty deep into the head of whoever my point of view character is, which requires me to feel fairly comfortable in my sense of "how does this character think, how do they see the world, how do they perceive the people around them" and for some characters that is much harder than others. it isn't necessarily a function of how much I like them, either - there are a number of characters who I don't necessarily like but who I find fairly easy to write, Tony Stark being a notable one. maybe it has to do with proximity to me and my own mental processes? probably that's at least part of it.

which, if that is the case, doesn't necessarily say anything good about me when it comes to the characters whose perspectives I find very easy to access, orz.

Man, it's been raining so much lately. On the one hand it's nice but oof, I do not like driving in rainy weather. Way too stressful.

So, I've been in a reflective mood lately. Sure it comes with the time of year. Creatively speaking, I feel like 2022 was pretty good for me. Im feeling more confident about things I create or ideas I get than I have in the past. I'm kinda happy about that.

Definitely focused more on writing than drawing. While I didn't publish much, I did feel great about the things I did managed to complete. Started taking more notes and being ok with wips. I feel like that's helped a lot. Head feels a little less cluttered and I'm relieved to know that I have a place where I can revisit my ideas when the time is right.

Didn't sketch or draw as much as I wanted to. It's hard because I have so many pencils and pens now (my brother even got me a set of pastels I'm excited about using). I'm not one for resolutions but I'd like to make some time to practice drawing more things. More practice in colored pencil for sure and trying to get through all my pens. At some point, I would like to venture into painting with inkwashes. Watercolors seem super intimidating to me. I've only painted with acrylics a few times and I don't really have the space for it. Maybe someday.

But yeah, this year, I want to try and work on my sense of organization when it comes to my creative projects. Art wise, I tend to be scatter brained ;w; I don't know what that will look like yet, but basically I want to balance time for writing and art projects.

Art wise, I still have that thing I was mentioning last year that I want to finish. I'm about a little over a quarter of the way there, I think? Just need to practice sketching some pieces out more before I draw the final versions. After that, I have a similar project I kind of want to do as well as a short series of portraits feat. one of my blorbos. At first, I wanted it to just be one drawing but I like all the ideas too much to choose just one orz. I also am undecided on which medium(s) to use. I'll see.

Writing wise...lol, I have so many wips now! Which is good. I do feel like I'll return to the Akira manga au series at some point. I've got more scenes from that AU (and I figured out how to end it)! There's also some one shots and a shorter series I hope to finish, but I'm very particular about the order in which I publish fics so idk when that'll be. Right now, though, the bnha fics are what I'm drawn to the most so I'll likely be focusing on those. Want to finish the first part of the series I posted, continue with the Villain AU, and maybe (maybe?) get the first chapter of the other series posted??? Gonna shoot for February for that one, but no guarantees there. There's also that highly ambitious AU fic that I want to write and publish this year, but there's still kinks for me to iron out with that one.

I think this is the longest time I've focused on fanart more than anything original, which is new for me. There are some projects related to my OCs that I have kicking around. Maybe I'll get to those later in the year. I've been debating whether to post original fics to AO3. I went on a deep dive the other night looking for fics tagged as QPR because I was curious and found way more original works than I expected. I know AO3 isn't technically for that, but I generally prefer to have one dedicated place to share stuff. I do have a RoyalRoad account though, so maybe I could use that instead.

Amidst the growing class inequality, civil war (and war with an allied superpower) became imminent, but Jean helped turned the tide with rigorous negotiations and unusual cunning.

Through it all he remained vigilant and grounded, with a healthy dose of idealism, even at a point in his career where others would have grown disillusioned and succumbed to corruption. But Jean stayed true to himself and his platform.

To be sure, one of the reasons his political rise was so meteoric was due to what others saw as naivete. Powerful players hidden in the wings viewed Jean's popularity with the people as a tool to exploit for their own means. They knew he was a man of principle and could scarcely be swayed to do their bidding, but it was hardly necessary for a pawn to see the playing board.

And so Jean, spotless and without controversy, was installed at the head of his government in what he believed to be a fair vote among his peers.

If only they'd known how intimately acquainted Jean already was with the under-workings of vampire society and the horrific secret that kept it running. Perhaps all the horror that was to come could have been avoided.

- Apathetic to an extreme.

- Keeps his distance from both people and Pokemon.

- Has only ever shown to express his anger out of growing frustration and even he hates the feeling which only adds to his loathing.

- Cyrus is a slowburn character, it takes LOTS of time and effort to get him to even start to crack.

- He is definitely heavily involved in his own little mind, thinks a lot and isn’t much for conversation when it is of absolutely no interest to him (which is 99% of the time).

- He is fascinated by technology, as seen with the Rotom Dex in Alola, he did not care for the player and he did not care for everything else that was happening around him, but he did stop to take intrigue in the Rotom Dex, intense intrigue which was.. a bit cute to see from Cyrus.

- Deadpan and serious. Very serious and he is definitely not good with kids at all. It’s hard to read his face and know what he is thinking or feeling. He is a closed book and his little actions and hints are just that, little. Very subtle. He is more likely to express subconsciously via his body language. Tensing up, a subtle quirk of a brow or twitch of the lip, a feint squint or hint of his eyes widening. Subtlety in how he expresses.

Things to avoid that I have seen often from the fandom:

- Having him express emotions or enjoyment. as stated before, the only emotion he’s ever shown was frustrated anger. You will have a far better chance of getting him to be angry than to make him smile genuinely or even laugh for that matter. He is.. not that outward of a guy. He is a man of few words when it comes to 99.9% of all things.

- Making him sℯxual in ANY way at all. Yes he is a villain, yes he is apathetic, yes he is still just human, but PLEASE, for the love of ALL that is holy PLEASE.. Please I beg of you not to do this to him. It’s the most uncomfortable and awful thing to experience while reading fanfics of Cyrus. Seriously.. I can not tell you how many fics I’ve had to instantly stop reading as soon as I got to something like that that wasn’t tagged or warned, or has such things tagged and warned. (This is not to say that he won’t ever take part in the act, but it would never happen without like a 500 chapter slowburn build up for him to be willing enough to even consider the thought of it as I stated in one of the posts I linked above^^^)

- If you are writing a post-events redeemed Cyrus trying to get used to life like everyone else.. Do keep in mind that he would definitely still be against emotions. He would only try to tolerate it. Treat him like a slow melting iceberg. Because that’s pretty much what he is. an introvert shoved into a frat party of all extroverts. he doesn’t want to be here, he would rather be at home, but there is no running away from a trainer battle! :)

Anyways, I hope these help you with writing him! You can go through his bulbapedia page as well, and play the games too and listen to what all the npc’s have to say as some of them do share some insight and other little details that may imply or hint to Cyrus in some way!

Also, I focus primarily on Game Canon Cyrus rather than any other series. The games came first and therefore are the source material on which the other versions are derived from. I’ve sort of been mentioning him and where he appears over and over in my blog for the last couple of days… (I do that when I get excited about something) my followers might have gotten tired of me crying over him by now orz but not everyone reaches my posts, I understand!

He appears in the fourth book you can read from the Dimensional Library/The Grand Athenaeum, a theme dungeon you can go after you reach level 100! This is yet updated in the Global version of this game but when it does I hope you go and give this a try. If you’ve played through the first book and enjoyed it, you’ll surely enjoy this one too. No spoilers w plot but he’s the one that gave her that coat to wear when she was shivering in the cold and when he first sees her he thinks she’s a cute girl… he’s the only one who took Alicia seriously from the beginning when she tells him she’s a transcendental being while everybody else thought she was crazy.  He also treats her like human being even after that and helps her out uhh he’s a very sweet man indeed

and I can’t get over his voice it’s so tender too we still don’t know who voiced him but it suits his job as a bard v nicely!! I wonder if they’ll hire someone good in the GMS version for his narrations.. I hope he gets a good voice overseas

What an hard question anon, oh my god haha as far as I’m concerned dgm has always been and always will be Good™ (it is my favorite manga, after all), but I’ll give you that the anime can get boring fast - it’s slow and more filler than actual story as far as the first season goes, and for my tastes poorly adapted and too heavy for the second. If you try out the manga, though, stuff really does happen fast and arcs follow each other mostly without a break, you can’t really call it slow at all lol

Since I’ve watched the first season about a decade ago I can’t really remember at which point I decided I’d sell my soul to it, probably when Lavi first appeared lbr, but if I had to give an objective answer to when it gets properly into the story I’d say when the Noahs are introduced for the first time (with Road and the Rewinding Town arc, which is... volume 3) ((it also happens to be around when Lavi makes his first appearance a+ coincidence you might nearly say he’s the heart of the story *wiggle eyebrows* get it? nah you probably don’t ignore me))

As far as talking about Allen and Lavi goes, I have no clue where to start and I don’t know how long it’d take for me to get through it all, oh man! They’re two of the most amazing characters I’ve ever read about, deep and complex and heavily layered - the type of characters that you can easily fit into a stereotype the first time you see them, but the more you learn about them the more you realize it’s not that simple at all. Because that simple and easy facade they show is part of them, but they’re at the same time its exact opposite as well, and they have sad pasts and sad presents and probably sad futures too, but you still see them standing tall and forcing a smile and joking and laughing and being so so so so strong it makes my heart clench just thinking about it - it’s hard to talk about them when I don’t know how much you know and how much it’s spoiler, but they’re... they’re kind of everything to me. How do you even explain someone that all-encompassing in just a few words?

Omg nonny :’D First, I’m completely with you on this one - this is such an adorable banter omg. It has everything, Dorian being concerned, Cole being adorable - this is beautiful. (and i feel you on the friendly fire stuff, just.. let’s limite damage ahah)

I don’t have a fave banter, mostly because i’m still discovering some banters i didn’t have before, and a  l o t of them are gold. 

Then, I generally love Cole’s banters. He’s always sweet and adorable and always with the most amazing replies, it makes me so happy. 

then man there’s so much banters i love. I love Varric/Dorian always betting about stuff, Varric/Vivienne was an extreme amount of fun.Bull has a lot of dialogue I really like (especially with Sera and Vivienne, I love how strategic he gets with them to different extreme, and well, always soft spot for his dialogues with Dorian) but I really, really love his dynamic with Cole (he calls him “my squirrelly kid” i’m gonna cry). There’s something in Cole/Cassandra dynamic that i find really sweet too bc it starts very badly but they end up pretty close? it’s adorable.

…. so ye I’d say Cole’s banters are always a win.

edit: i ended up making a list of some of my fav and I actually love too much banters to just narrow them down i love those dorks
