Ranma 1/2 episode 3. I can't be the only person who somehow, despite not thinking about this series seriously in a long time, still hears "YAPPAPPA YAPPAPPA II SHAN TEN hashagu koi wa ike no koi" in their head when starting up the reboot series.
Where did you come from? I thought I forgot you.
By contrast, the new OP hasn't grown on me as much. Can't imagine why. It couldn't be that I've heard the new one twice but heard the old one eight billion times over the course of three decades, such that any new music in its place is going to inherently sound like an imposter.
Nah, it's probably just that the song isn't good. That's a reasonable thing to conclude.
(In seriousness, new OP is fun.)
Uhhhhh, part 1 because I had a lot to say about Nabiki, my fave from back in the day who gets to be in the spotlight for the first time this episode.
Speaking of the OP, this is my favorite shot.
I don't know what it is exactly but every time I see this, there is a haunted look in Ranma's eyes. I don't think that's on purpose. I think he's just supposed to look like he's happily jogging.
But I see a thousand-yard stare on this boy. The look of a person who has seen things that can never be unseen.
Which.
Is fair.
For Ranma.
Rejected so hard. This is a misunderstanding but it's still hilarious how quickly Nabiki nopes the fuck out of this shit.
To be fair, she's seen the way Kuno treats the women he's interested in. If I were her, I would want no part of that.
Ironically enough, Nabiki/Kuno is IIRC the most popular ship for both of these characters. Though, given that being physically strong enough to beat the shit out of him at martial arts is such an important quality to Kuno, I'm not sure he and Nabiki are really compatible.
Makes perfect sense from Nabiki's perspective but honestly I'm pretty sure she's more likely to Black Widow him for his wealth than fall in love with him sincerely.
So begins Nabiki's career of being the absolute worst person in Ranma's life, in a cast that includes multiple people attempting to murder him. Nabiki is something far worse than a shonen rival. Worse than a romantic rival. Worse than a shonen rival who wants to surpass you at romancing your love interest.
She's a capitalist. And she has found a saleable product.
(My characters are always the absolute worst. Goddammit, Nabiki.)
There's something really interesting in Nabiki's reaction to that remark. Like. She gets back into gear pretty quickly after this moment.
But.
Just for a moment.
She had a visceral, kneejerk reaction of shock and disgust at the realization that Kuno was planning on pursuing Ranma and Akane at the same time.
Just for a moment, she had an emotional reaction strong enough to break her poker face.
I mean, she's still going to profit off it. She is a capitalist after all.
But it happened. That brief glimpse into the humanity underneath the cash register was there.
For those unaware of yen to dollar exchange rates, she's charging about $20 for Ranma's photos. Akane's are about $27. So we can actually quantify her feelings for Akane. She loves her sister exactly $7 more than a stranger she met a few days ago.
Don't take it personally. It's just business.
(I felt really gross saying that. Probably because it was really gross. In seriousness, Nabiki is an active participant in Akane's harassment, without Akane's knowledge.)
That said, she does still try to help this situation once she's done cashing in on violations of Ranma and Akane's privacy.
It doesn't take because Kuno aggressively refuses to learn the truth about the Pig-Tailed Girl throughout the series lest it compromise his delusions. But she does try. There seems like there's basically no reason for her to do this except to burst Kuno's bubble.
...except then she also does this when she realizes Kuno didn't get it.
She tried to burst Kuno's bubble and it didn't work so now she's making it worse instead. At this point, it's clear that Nabiki's just starting shit for funsies. She is the show's trickster. Her allegiances are to money and entertainment.
She was expecting a hilarious blowout the one way and when she didn't get it, she went a different route. Goddammit, Nabiki.
Of course, her troll antics eventually blow up in her face when they out her capitalist antics.
But she never really has to face any sort of consequences for it. Right when it seems like things are about to turn against her...
Ranma, rather than presenting a united front against their mutual abuser, decides to open his fucking mouth and insult Akane instead.
This is how capitalists win. They skate home with all the money and no comeuppance while their victims pick each apart.

Total Drama Island Reboot Season Two: Episodes 2, 3 and 4
Okay wow, was not expecting three new episodes at once. Again I am baffled by both the local and international release schedules. But I'm continuing to watch and enjoy this reboot, here are my rough impressions of all the characters in all three episodes. Spoilers below the cut, obviously.
Chase is out second. Pretty obvious boot with how he behaved in the challenge, but that's just how TDI is sometimes. Glad he went early if I'm being honest since his whole subplot with Emma had run its course and there wasn't much more to get out of Chase. Speaking of which though...
Emma was out fourth, which kind of surprised me. I thought she might get an arc of finally forgetting about Chase and moving on, but then she goes and gets eliminated. Maybe they're saving an Emma arc for if gen 4 gets a third season? Who knows. A little disappointing but not a huge loss.
And between them, Millie is out third. Not surprising if I'm being honest; Millie had a chance to train up to be a stronger player with Priya's help, but neglected to actually study for it. And then in episode 2 when she tries to think creatively to help her team win, her lack of social skills is what did her in when she failed to consider how pissed her team would be for tricking Damien down the most dangerous slide. Her elimination feels like a natural consequence of her own actions and shortcomings instead of the contrived coincidences that Total Drama was guilty of many times in past seasons.
Then there's Damien himself. So far he still hasn't done a whole lot, but he's definitely shown to have become more self-confident with the way he called out Millie and how he was willing to brave that rickety bridge in episode 3. Time will tell if he makes it far.
Zee continues to be hilarious. Not really having much of an impact in terms of plotlines with other characters, but he always gets a laugh out of me. "Not thinking is my specialty!"
Gotta say, I thought Priya would have at least shown a little more of a reaction to her bestie being voted off. Still her plotline with Caleb is interesting. I can picture this leading to drama down the road where she realizes Caleb has just been trying to build an alliance rather than flirt with her. Or who knows, maybe Caleb will develop genuine feelings for her and it becomes a ship. Could go either way.
Speaking of Caleb, he represents the biggest difference between the writing of the reboot and previous seasons. Not once does the show portray him as antagonistic in trying to manipulate Priya into an alliance; he's just trying to form a strong partnership to make it farther in the game. Helps immensely that Caleb isn't actively cruel like Heather and Alejandro; he's genuinely chill despite his determination. Him literally carrying most of his team in episode 3 was awesome, not gonna lie.
Nichelle continues to dominate and be awesome in challenges. However I can't help but notice she's not really trying to get close to anyone, like Caleb is with Priya for example. I have a feeling that could come back to bite her if people vote her off for being a potential threat ala Caleb in season one.
I'm loving Axel so far. She's much better about being a team player but also hasn't lost her edge. I also like how we're getting depth to her, like her love of poetry. And then there's her romance with Ripper which I did not see coming. More on that later.
Holy shit, I was hoping for more of the MK/Julia alliance, but I wasn't expecting this much! I'm loving MK's unorthodox strategy of disguising as an intern to get inside information, it's very unique.
Oh and MKulia might become a thing. "Oh stop it, you'll make me blush!" "If MK's brain drove a cool car, I would totally date it." Watching these episodes I was like Wait are they gonna go there? Oh my god they might actually go there! And if they do, I am here for it!
Wayne and Raj continue to be very wholesome and hilarious! I love the dynamic they bring to Team Skunk Butt, wanting to play fair while Julia and MK cheat. And stuck in the middle...
is Bowie. I'm loving the drama of his character arc: he's still willing to pull the same underhanded tactics he used in season one and is all in on MK's strategy, but now has Wayne and especially Raj are acting as his morality pets. Some are predicting this could lead to a Rajbow break up, but I honestly don't think they'd do that. What I think will happen is Team Skunk Butt loses a challenge despite MKulia cheating again with Bowie's knowledge, Bowie feels terrible, and to make it up he offers to eliminate himself if one of the Hocky Bros is about to be voted off.
Last but not least, Ripper. Gonna be honest, he was my least favorite of gen 4 in season one; I didn't care for his focus on gross-out humor and he survived eliminations over characters I liked more. I didn't expect much from him going into season two so I was blindsided here. Not only is his gross out humor significantly toned down (but still present) but he proved to be quite endearing with his insecurity over his crush on Axel. I was especially stunned in episode four when he actually tried to connect with Axel's interest in poetry and actually wrote a poem for her, something I could never see season 1 Ripper doing. And Axel reciprocating with a kiss despite not seeming interested in him earlier? My haw hit the floor. Before I was hoping he'd be an early boot, but now I find myself actually wanting to see Ripper stick around and see where things go with him as a character and his potential relationship with Axel. I... actually like Ripper now, which is a sentence I never thought I'd say.
A few minor issues aside, I am loving this new season so far. I haven't genuinely enjoyed Total Drama since the original TDI 15 years ago.

The only way I'll accept this whole soft reboot of the DC Universe by James Gunn is if it's handled with absolute care. The biggest advantage James Gunn had with The GOTG is that they're very self-contained & don't need to deal with anything Earth related until Infinity War (which was amazing & hilarious. We needed more of Iron Man & Star Lord together)
My biggest worry for this new DCU is that it dies without getting a real chance to shine, just like The DCEU (2013 - 2023)
A universe-displaced Wonder Woman that wants to return to her man Bruce from The Snyderverse & longs to see her home again, NOT the Themyscira of the DCU would be very interesting.
It's a shame we'll never get Zack Snyder's take on The Batfamily. Given what we saw of Bruce & Alfred's relationship throughout The Snyderverse. I could definitely see Batgirl in this universe. What if she never got shot by The Joker in this universe or what if she did & stayed Oracle passing the mantle to Cassandra Cain & Stephanie Brown?
There's still so much potential in The Snyderverse, which really really really sucks to see wasted.
James Gunn's universe hasn't even started yet & people are rightfully skeptical & maybe at best hopefully optimistic.
The most interesting thing I can think of doing with Diana is that she realizes she's not in her universe when she meets The DCU's Superman & Batman. Mainly because it would be very cool to see Diana eventually going back to The Snyderverse after passing the mantle of Wonder Woman to Donna Troy or Cassie Sandsmark.
You could make Gal's Wonder Woman pass the mantle on multiple times spanning TWO different universes.
In The DCU, she passes it on to Donna Troy.
In The Snyderverse, she passes it on to Artemis of Bana-Mighdall (who's part of The Dark Trinity in this universe & dating a recently resurrected Jason Todd)
WonderBat is canon in The Snyderverse & Jaytemis would definitely be canon in The Snyderverse. Could you imagine the stories we'd get?
I'd love to see a Trinity & Dark Trinity movie to give a finale to the universe. You'd have The Batfamily with Wonder Woman's family growing to with Artemis, Donna & Cassie.
And while I'm rambling on about all this stuff, GIVE ME A TEEN TITANS & TITANS MOVIE!
#the dcu#james gunn's dcu#the snyderverse#the dceu#wondergal is perfect as wonder woman#wonderbat is canon in every universe#wonderbat

i'll address the questions before getting into the 5 best/worst/weirdest episodes.
the 'arcs' question is a bit of a weird one just due to how connected events in the series are overall, but without going too deep into it i think i tend to think of the 'arcs' as one big episode with the actual individual episodes that make it up being more like... chapters in a book i can point to or guide me to the specifics i'm looking for, if that makes sense?
as for the later seasons, s5-s7, i personally stop considering everything after season 4 'canon'. i have a small handful of things i like from s5, but i won't be acknowledging it because as a whole it's always felt very empty to me. seasons 6 and 7 don't even feel like the same show anymore; the shift in art-direction was bad enough but the tonal whiplash is kind of unforgivable, and i just... it's a different show. maybe if it'd been more of a fresh reboot with no ties to the first 4 seasons i could be more kind but talk about a glow-down.
i honestly don't have any strong opinions on turtles forever, it just kind of exists. i might be more inclined to watch it again if it maintained the art-direction of the first 4 seasons, but i just. *vague gesturing* i don't like looking at it, so i don't want to spend time on it.
alright, now for the best/worst/weirdest. and i will try to practice restraint and keep these answers condensed because i know i'm long-winded. episodes are listed by category, then chronologically.
best
the shredder strikes back 1&2 (s1ep17-18)
i feel like these two episodes are great for a number of reasons. like. we got a taste--a TASTE--of just how dangerous the shredder is as an enemy in the shredder strikes; the boys had a helluva wake up call, there. but--to put it bluntly--in these two episodes, we watch shredder play with his food. and, quite literally, the only reason leo's still alive for the rest of the show is because shredder allowed it. like, i can't emphasize that enough: leo's only still here because shredder decided he wanted to, as pennywise might say, "salt the meat". he didn't just want victory, he wanted it panicked and painful. this episode is just a slow build of dread as leo's hunted across the city and then writhing around in your chair as his family fights to keep him and themselves alive. april calls them 'family' for the first time, casey solidifies himself as a ride-or-die, and it's all just going to make shredder's "defeat" at the end of the season all the more cathartic (even if he pulls an uno reverse five minutes later). i could keep going but, again, trying to be condensed.
tales of leo (s1ep19)
this is just like. the perfect follow-up to the last two episodes. it's the introduction to the farmhouse, we get to see the turtle-tots for the first time, and, of course, we see how scared and shaken up the family is. the previous episode hasn't just effected them, either: april's lost her home and her livelihood. i love that casey doesn't hesitate to open up an extension of HIS home to them after all of that. i love don and mikey's stories, i love raph's struggle with expressing how scared and vulnerable he feels, and how his story reflects how he respects leo. it does kind of make me wish we'd gotten similar stories for everyone, but that's a nice "what fanfiction is for" moment i guess. i also like that shredder is still smart enough to want some kind of proof that the turtles died in the fire rather than just assume victory and moonwalk away. his hubris ultimately gets the better of him and he believes stockman without question, which is never not going to be hilarious to me. i dunno. i just think it's a great follow up to one of the series' best episodes, as we slow down to allow the family to recover and focus on the heart.
the big brawl (s2ep23-26)
there's so much going on in this four-episode extravaganza that i almost don't know where to start. we get an answer as to who ultimate ninja is connected to, we get to learn the turtles have a family 'winning streak' in a universal tournament, we introduce usagi and gennosuke, we get reunited with traximus--there is a LOT going on, and it's just. FUN. i love that leo and usagi start with a mutual respect for each other that will expand in future episodes, i love splinter bowing out to give mikey the chance to win and mikey resting his nunchaku on his shoulder as 'the final blow', i love that raph and traximus team up in the most chaotic way to get splinter out of jail, i love don being protective of leo around usagi but warming up to him as they defend the daimyo together, i just. these episodes are so satisfying. there's pay-off for past things and set-up for future things.
exodus (s3ep25-26)
it's the final showdown with the shredder, and it's about to set in motion the vibes for the whole first half of s4. the whole squad's here in the first half and it's a balls to the wall struggle the second half. i love that not only do casey and april help with the infiltration of the foot tower, but i also love that leatherhead's here (god do i wish hun had gotten more consequences for brawling with him; bite down on his leg and deathroll) and honeycutt's on speed-dial. there's a sense of urgency through the whole thing--from stopping him from even getting on the ship to the fight in the ship itself--and the turtles are left with a horrible choice that... after everything ch'rell's survived may not even fully guarantee his defeat. it's a gamble THEY won't win, but for the sake of the universe? they take it anyway. and after everything that's happened throughout the series, when we get to the end trial and ch'rell's crimes are read off, there's so much weight in the question "is it over?". you just gotta lie facedown on the floor for a few hours and marinate.
the ancient one (s4ep14)
i'm going to put aside the fact that i don't enjoy the ancient one as a character (the fart humor really grinds my gears i'm sorry) and just look at this episode for what it is: catharsis. we've spent the last thirteen episodes watching leo spiral, the effects it's having on his family, and now he's being forced to face it head on. i like the parallel to raph's outburst at the start of the series. i like the lessons leo's taught during his journey to find the ancient one. and that final fight with the stone golem is just... *chef's kiss*. seeing how leo's mindset has altered his memory of exodus's events (his brothers and splinter never begged to him), michael's voice acting, and that final "why are you still punishing yourself" is just something so fucking good. and when the ancient one isn't exercising his trait that gives me a migraine, i really enjoy him as a teacher.
honorable mentions (there are reasons i can't say they're 'the best' but i still really like and enjoy watching them): "notes from the underground", "return to new york", "lone raph and cub", "touch and go", "return to the underground", "H.A.T.E.", "grudge match", "samurai tourist"
worst
reflections (s2ep9)
this is in 'worst', but it's an inoffensive worst. it's mostly 'worst' because it's a recap episode that you could either fast-forward through all the recaps and only watch the 'new' commentary from the characters as they recap, or you could skip it all together. i think it's fine overall, but i definitely remember being a little disappointed as a kid that i'd waited for a new episode and gotten a recap of what all had happened, leading up to a conclusion i'd already come to by the end of secret origins. i get that the characters needed to have that revelation, i just think it could have been done differently than having the series thusfar recapped to the audience. this isn't an episode you'd recommend to folks, it just... is kind of there. it's not great, good, okay OR even 'bad'. just inoffensive but unnecessary.
the entity below (s3ep16)
this episode goes here because it not only just sits really wrong with me, but i also just don't like knowing where the green man came from nor the merpeople nor avians--the latter of which will be an irritation later on. i don't like the whole "the stars are aligned" thing, and i thought the concept of the y'lyntians was a lot stronger when we initially thought it was just one dude going mad with loneliness and isolation underground rather than a whole race of people ready and hibernating to enslave the earth. the underground episodes were so good, but i feel like this one overstepped the concept in a major way and wound up tainting what was otherwise a really cool and mysterious skeleton lurking beneath new york's streets. i elect to ignore it.
the people's choice (s4ep2)
this is such a nothing episode for me, and it's made even more irritating by the fact that it very much feels like it's invasive in the post-exodus healing. i feel like one of the three farmhouse episodes could have, nay should have, been similar to reflections but rather than a series of flashbacks/recaps it be more the boys attempting to process everything leading up to exodus as they sat around the campfire. it would have been interesting to watch leo struggle to open up to his brothers (he kind of talks to april the next episode, but i imagine there would be more shame involved with them). also... we, the fans, all know about the elephant in the room. which is don's trauma. i feel like this would have been the perfect episode to point a light in that direction and acknowledge it, since exodus leaves him the last turtle standing in a way that would have paralleled sainw. but instead, we get caught up in a completely random and unrelated space fight. maybe if this episode had taken place somewhere else in the series, i'd be more willing to have fun with it as a one-off, expanding of the world kind of episode. but since it's right smack in the middle of the three exodus aftermath episodes it reeeeaaallly grinds my gears and i can never watch it without thinking about the opportunity they missed.
a wing and a prayer (s4ep7)
season 4 has a couple of these episodes where i feel like they either could have done something ELSE or done something better. like... i dunno; something about this adventure just feels weird and kind of off to me, and i'm deeply uninterested in mephos and raptarr as characters. i even got them confused while writing this. again, the aftermath of the entity below is kind of frustrating to me. i'm less irritated with the merpeople being touched on in sons of the silent age because they weren't allies, and they weren't there for most of the episode. i'll kind of touch on this in my 'weirdest' episodes, but this just feels like they chose the wrong previous episode to expand on when, given the theme of this half of the season, they had a far better option. in my humble opinion.
ninja tribunal (s4ep26)
you can probably guess why this is here given how i started this response. this was kind of the beginning of the end for me, ergo i'm embittered to it. i don't like the idea that the shredder is back at it again at krispe kreme, just now in his final form; i don't particularly care for any of the acolytes, from what i remember they just feel like watered down reflections of the boys themselves (at best); i just. do not like that this season ends on a set up for the next season. i know s1 did that--and i generally don't think show seasons should end on weighted cliffhangers; there are exceptions to this 'rule' but this was not one of them. i do appreciate that they spent some time acknowledging don's recovery at the start, though. that was nice.
dishonorable mentions: "nano", "return of the justice force"
weirdest
the king (s1ep16)
i'm putting this here because it's kind of an 'out of place' episode in an otherwise very tight season. it's a tribute episode; i think it's a very nice one and i really enjoy it for what it's meant to be. i almost feel like it'd be even more out of place in the future seasons, so if they were gonna put it anywhere, s1 is a good enough place. especially with don's "crystals... it had to be crystals" comment coming right off the underground episodes lmao. well played.
the golden puck (s2ep18)
we have to get a fucking hockey trophy back from some cowboy cosplayers because casey said so. that's it, that's the episode. it's hilarious and i love it. we also get to see the boys without their masks, and leo's so relaxed he's letting casey face down loaded guns and shrugging about it (revenge for broken furniture).
april's artifact (s2ep21)
we find this odd little puzzle box in april's storage, we twist it like three times and immediately get teleported to hellish wasp dimension with stank mud rivers. it's a fun one-off, and i have never related to raphael ninja turtle more in my life. but i am going to make him warm up to fireflies and jumping spiders if it kills me. it's going to kill one of us, that's for sure.
hunted (s3ep9)
ngl, this one is primarily here because i can't get through leatherhead's nightmare without suffering from what i can only describe as secondhand embarrassment. this series has gone wild with designs and concepts already, so to see nightmare!bishop look like a goblin with a gun and the turtles with pointy teeth and snake tongues and idk it's just a very "what the hell is going on" moment in an otherwise good episode. bro is flabbergasted (it's me, i'm the bro).
the darkness within (s3ep14)
this one goes under 'weird' both for concept and that we just shrugged and walked away afterward. i am straight up baffled that there is still an eldritch horror lurking around somewhere in new york and we just never addressed that again. i feel like it would have been SUPER interesting to return to this in s4, after the horrors of exodus and sainw and bad day, see what other dark rocks we can turn over, and defeat the creature for real this time. the horror lover in me looks at the concept of getting a phone call on a payphone and suddenly being thrust into a silent hill-esque version of new york to face your fears, and i just writhe with glee. yeah. i think the fact this episode ended with the monster still being alive and able to influence people makes me even more frustrated with episodes like people's choice and wing and a prayer.
----
alright. i think that's all i've got for now. i talk for 84 years, and yet i still didn't cover all the ground i wanted in this discussion. if you (general 'you', not necessarily OP) wanna continue the conversation, i'd prefer you just send me an ask so we don't pollute OP's reblogs. thanks for reading if you got this far, here's a snack and drink for your troubles.
I’m Curious
I had a thought just now and felt I needed to ask it. So here’s what I want to know from the 2k3 fanbase;
What are the 5 best, worst, weirdest episodes of this show?
I have a general idea what a few of the best episodes are, but I want to see what the general opinion is for the worst or oddest episodes.
Does the fan base consider arcs as a whole episode, or would a stand out episode of said arc fit better. What about the latter season compared to the first four? How do most people think of Turtles Forever, good, bad, could have been better?
I’m genuinely curious
Respond to this post if you’d like. I’d love to see everyone’s favs and least favs.

haaaiii i really-really love pingxie, everything its really make my day ^^
and you really take such a small detail about pingxie at tltr or un, while I even didnt notice that, so for thats thankyou very much
and i want to ask you, ive read at some website for the novel and i was read part where wuxie and xiaoge was searching for i forgot what it was it about a tomb of zhang or smthg wait i think i have a pic of it
that one, i was gonna ask you which part of that story is, at that time that was the updated one but now its not, i lost the link in my lost cellphone. i thought that was from sidestory or something i cant remenber which of it, so maybe you do know about this?? i really-really want to finish that story
by the way, please keep posting about pingxie, its really make my day, i always gone to find some new post about pingxie from you
Hello! :) Awwwws thank you so much! Thats my pleasure lol I myself each time I rewatch esp with notes I still feel like I have Xiaoge's memory bc I'm like "oh damn I forgot it was there" lmao so I'll just gif as I go I guess for all of us nutjobs xD
Ahahaha I was just there!!!!!! I literally was just rereading Restart p2 and recently was on p3. It's from the Mongolia arc "Restart 3: Looking for the Dead in the Sea of Lights" chapter 24. Here you go :) As usual we're treated like a prince and Pangzi has to "run left!" on his own two legs to the forest from a bunch of horses lmao. And Xiaoge "hold on to me baby, we'll lead them away" hgfdsdfjghkf since when we're in a fucking romance novel? Ah yeah right, since forever xDD
Istg Xiaoge and his fucking "I can be your hero baby.mp3" episodes are one of my fav lol. Like Wu Xie isn't impressed enough and hasn't completely lost his mind for him already, he still always does this thing where he tries to look as hot as possible. Sometimes I'm really not sure if he's not waiting for a dramatic entrance like with the snake pit or clams or that time in warehouse xD
And like ok at the beginning he was trying to impress his crush with his stupid smug face:
and up to book 8 with his backwards broken arm and "I just pulled my wrist" I can get those, but the fact that he to this day is like this is just hilarious af
like I get he likes when Wu Xie makes this face:
but seeing a 100 year old turning into a 5 year old trying to impress his husband still gets me rolling on the floor. seriously tf is this lmao:
No, for real he jumped on a horse, leaped over fire (lol???) and lifted him with one hand on his horse? I'm…. lmfao okkk
Or or like that time he "cut the drapes" in UN!!! ROLF PLS
He's legit since book 5 is like that bird of paradise from BBC who is trying to impress his mate lmao. We've been crazy in love for a while now and he's still at it.
P.S. We gotta survive till the next doze next year and then next year until the next one and then after that lol
P.P.S. Oh the unrealistic dream of Reboot part 2 with our bbs pls don't die lmfao
#answered#marriedtomyotp#pingxie#daomu biji#dmbj#xiaoge wants to be wu xie's prince charming lmao#who else while reading restart forgot that they're like 40 and 100? lmao#I just remember how I was like really happy that they despite everything managed to keep that part of themselves alive tbh#thats why its my fav part#I just love this whole dynamic of 'I'm so strong on my own but sometimes I want someone to protect me too' from both sides#like usually its really one sided mostly but these two are like so equal about that#and they like to peacock as much as they like to be taken care of and thats sweet really#idiots in love indeed#zhang qiling#wu xie#I want all the restart 2-4 scenes with ZYL and HJJ hahaha#bc that reminded me how he lifted ZYL with one hand lmao

lloyd, zane, and nya, during a supply run that involves breaking in to a Borg warehouse @ some point during Rebooted, the plan goes wrong and a last-second hail mary with our favorite 400-pound robot is their last chance. spawned from my hc on why strategist Zane works well w/ leader Lloyd and another hc list with drabbles on Zane being very heavy
P.S. sorry this is posting 12 hours later than usual! it turned out longer than i planned
Gen. Implied Glacier and referenced Jaya; So much team dynamics and team fluff
the others are there during planning @ the monastery, so if you came here for not Zane, Nya, or Lloyd, everyone else is actually in this fic i promise
also on Ao3

Pale yellow candles in ceiling lamps flood the meeting room in a soft light. The floors are a lighter wood that matches the wall panels with paper screens. A large kneeling table made of oak is in the center, surrounded by thick square brown pillows. Three are occupied. Lloyd and Zane are examining dark blue and white documents, as well as fuzzy photos. The other person, Jay, is reading in a position that his older self will curse him for.
Zane is sitting at the head of the table and Lloyd is situated on the long side, as close to Zane as he can be. Lloyd's running his hands through his hair, which falls in his face if he doesn't, "Well, I just think the elevator shaft is-"
One of the wood panels slides open. Nya walks across the room and sits to Jay's right. Lloyd doesn't take his eyes off her and raises his eyebrows when she pulls out a piece of paper, "That the parts list?"
"Yup," she leans over and places it as close to Lloyd as she can manage, "Get all of these and we can have everything up and running by..." she glances at Jay, who looks up from his book, "Wednesday?"
"Give or take thirteen hours." He returns to reading.
"Yeah."
"Great, okay, right-" Lloyd turns back to Zane and starts pointing at a page of blueprints that show a top-down view of a sprawling storage complex. When he speaks, it's clear he's continuing after having been interrupted, "The shaft leads straight up to storage room 87c, which would save us a ton of time and resources. It'd be safer. We wouldn't have to use the stairways, which are surrounded by walls made of glass."
Nya sits back and watches the two. Lloyd has only been adult for a little over a year now, so he hasn't grown into this position entirely. Hilariously, though, he still doesn't seem to be above using his whiney tone. If it was anyone else, they probably wouldn't notice, but she'd been stuck babysitting him for hours on end, so, yeah, she notices.
Lloyd shifts and looks up at Zane, "Plus we're less likely to get caught."
Zane breaks eye contact with him, looking at the papers instead, and seems to be contemplating this idea. Nya realizes that he must be running programs. In his head, that is. Since they'd been teaching at the Academy, she kept forgetting that he's an android. It was probably the sweaters. What kind of robot has a favorite sweater? Zane, apparently. Even seeing him now, in his pajamas, it's still a little jarring to think that she'd, just that morning, opened up a panel on his chest and fixed some shot wiring. They're all in pajamas now, though, since it's so late. It would have been weirder to see him walking around in full armor, so she can't fault him for changing out of his gi even though he doesn't always need to sleep.
Zane looks back at Lloyd, "You make some good points," he's choosing each word out like one might if they're stepping around hot pebbles, "but your plan depends entirely on the elevator being at the top or bottom of the facility and staying there for the duration of our visit."
"Zane, it's two AM, who would be in there at two AM?"
"I'm just pointing out that there's a possibility of the elevator being in service," he moves around the papers, pulling out one that, from what she could tell upside-down, shows a vertical slice of the building. He traces his finger over the paper, emphasizing each point, "If it was going to let off at the top or bottom floor, we would need to enter it or leave the elevator shaft in order to avoid getting injured."
Lloyd crosses his arms and shifts in his seat, "What's the chance of that, though?" It's late and he's clearly just being obstinate because he's tired.
Zane doesn't seem to catch it, though, and looks through more documents, including one with a rather extensive spreadsheet. He taps his left fingers on the table before replying, "I don't know really anything about the most frequent travel paths in the building, but I can guess it's approximately a 10% chance that it'll be moving to a top or bottom floor during the total amount of time we'll be in the shaft-"
Next to her, Jay giggles.
"Elevator shaft, Jay," Coles at the door, and sighs, leaning back to rest on the doorframe.
She must've been really distracted or exhausted if she hadn't seen him standing there. Probably both.
He turns to the two planners at the table and smiles when Zane meets his gaze, "So you guys have a plan, then?"
He looks at the scattered papers, and says "Not entirely..." at the same time that Lloyd replies, "Yes."
They turn towards each other and hold eye contact until Zane relents. He's clearly hesitant, but not entirely against the idea, "If we're going to go along with it, then we at least need a backup measure if we do, in fact, need to retreat into the building."
At that, Cole cocks his head to the side.
"To avoid getting crushed," Zane explains, without missing a beat. If anything, Cole looks even more confused now.
Lloyd continues, oblivious, "Okay, we'll go into this door here," he taps the blueprints that show a top-down view, "It's a safe vent since the area around it is being renovated right now. The only things that work are the lights and those wouldn't even be one because the construction crews get there at five."
Kai breezes in, unaware of the context, and helpfully adds, "Five in the morning? Glad I'm a ninja then." He sits across from Nya and a seat away from Lloyd, "We just stay up late, don't we?"
At that, Cole sits on Jay's left, whose book is forgotten now that he's explaining to Kai how "Morning People" that get nine hours of sleep are mostly unfortunate products of their genes. Cole's looking at Zane, though, whose talk in low tones with Lloyd fades into the background as Nya thinks about the night ahead of them.
Several minutes later, the door slides open again and Senseis Wu and Garmadon walk through. Garmadon clears his throat, rendering the room silent, "Hate to interrupt your riveting conversation," he looks around, slightly side-eyeing Jay, "But you are beholden to my students' curfew, as well. I expect all of you in bed within the hour."
A ruckus of complaints fill her ears, but none of them ask the question. Nya raises her voice above the others, "Sensei Garmadon," he looks over at her, "None of your students are here."
"There's you six, isn't there?"
"Dad," Lloyd turns around, stretching the word out slightly, "We're planning a sting on a storage facility. Tonight. Well, tomorrow morning."
Garmadon looks at Wu, who just looks resigned, and sighs, "Well, if you must, then," he walks over and sits between Kai and Lloyd. His perfect posture, tall stature, and large build make him look like a proper mentor of the martial arts. He raises an eyebrow at the scattered plans, "When are you leaving?"
Lloyd runs his hand through his hair, probably so he can see properly, "In three hours. At two AM, we should be at the facility."
"Okay," He squints pointedly at one sheet of paper, "That's seventeen miles away. Who are you taking with you and how are you going to get there?"
"It's me, Nya, and Zane. We were going to use my dragon-"
"You rely too much on that thing."
"-because all of our vehicles are shot."
At that, Garmadon pauses, then lifts his chin slightly, "Very well," he smiles a little and cocks an eyebrow, "You came up with all this?" he motions towards the plans and spreadsheets. He looks rather impressed with his son's work, if the slightest bit misbelieving. That's only because he's still technically about 12.
"No," Lloyd waves a hand to his right, "Zane and I did."
Sensei shifts his gaze to Zane and locks eyes with him, "Good, then," he springs up all of a sudden, spinning so that his back faces them. It's a bit too graceful for someone at least two hundred years old who nearly died a year ago, "Then the rest of you can head off to bed now." He joins Wu at the door, who looks amused, "Jay, Kai, Cole; I don't tolerate rule breakers," he walks out into the hallway, "You're not part of the operation, so go to sleep."
Wu looks between Lloyd and Zane, "You've been working together to make a plan," he trails off, walking off just as his brother did, "I see ninja sharpens ninja."
The six of them look at each other. Most of them are exasperated, or that's just Nya projecting. Cole stands up first, patting Zane on the shoulder and ruffling Lloyd's hair as he passes by. Jay picks up his book and stands, his unruly curls bounce with every step he takes. It's very cute. "Come on, Kai," he drags her brother's name out, "We don't want face Garmadon's wrath."
Kai allows himself to be dragged from his seat, and his evening complaints and dark eye shadows fade as the three of them walk further down the hallway. He really isn't the night person he claims to be, but they always got their best business when the moon was high, so he's kept up the ruse since they were kids.
"We'll need an another exit point that's dark, high up, and close to the forest; if they surround the place, then we can escape with a lot less fanfare and evidence," And Lloyd's back to planning. He turns towards Nya, which makes some of his hair slip out from where it's tucked behind his ear, and slides the blueprints of 'Floor 4' towards her, "Anything else you want to get a look at? Most of this," he points at her parts list, which she realizes looks pretty smudged and hasty compared to the crisp blue and bleached-white sheets covering half the table, "Is in 87c, which is pretty much in the middle of the complex, so we can stop on our way back to the elevator so long as..." he raises his tone and side eyes Zane.
"If any lock takes more than one and a half minutes to open, then we'll need to seek cover from passing guards, which drastically increases our chances of getting caught." Zane doesn't even look up, still staring-not-staring at the wood grain. Probably running through the full simulation of the plan as many times as he can before they leave.
Lloyd directs his gaze back at her. His eyebrows dip down at the ends, "He says that, but a 50% increase isn't that bad when it goes from 1.5 to 2.25 percent. I promise. If we need anything else from those rooms, then we will get it." He holds her gaze for a moment.
"Well," Nya smiles a little sheepishly, "There's this one processor that would really improve mech motion," she glances over at Zane, who looks back at her a second after, "I think it's in 85a."
He nods after a moment.
"Other than that," she looks back at Lloyd, "Just get me access to a system panel, and I'm your ninja for the job."
"Door 12a." Zane raises his head, directing his gaze towards them.
Lloyd straightens back up in his seat and furrows his brow, looking down at the sheets trying to put together what's going on.
"The one you were looking for, the covert exit in case our cover is blown," Zane's tone is slightly clipped, probably because his processors are busy running simulation, that or he's a little annoyed that the question was forgotten so soon, "It's to the southeast of the building and leads directly into 20 square kilometers of forest."
"Oh, right, yeah. Thanks Zane," Lloyd picks up the floor layout, "If we leave that way, then Nya shouldn't take out all the lights and the whole security system. We'll already be discovered, anyways."
Zane nods, then stands up just a second later, "It is time to suit up," he looks at the two of them, his expression apologetic, "You didn't get to rest, yet..."
Lloyd jumps up, patting Zane on the back, "It's okay, we'll be alright."
Nya wobbles a little when she's upright - one of her legs is asleep. She does a little jig in order to get it working again, drawing amused faces out of her friends. "Okay," she walks towards the door, "Let's go."
~*~
It's always a little strange to ride on the golden dragon, with it being see-through and all. Zane appears to feel the same way, widening his eyes and pointedly looking down when he glances back at her. As precious mechanical cargo, he's sandwiched between Lloyd in front, the actual dragon-rider, and Nya at the back, who's just become very good at not falling off these things since she doesn't have one of her own.
The warehouse is in their sights within ten minutes or so. Their only light is the moon, which is only a sliver of a crescent slicing through the dark sky. It's a bit humid out and the back of Nya's neck already coated with a layer of sweat. She couldn't wait to take a shower when they get back.
The air rushes in her ears as they descend, accelerating and allowing the ground to pull them close until they get about fifty feet from the rooftop, then they decelerate and the dragon disappears, letting them drop the remaining ten or so feet to land on the slanted metal. Their landing makes no sound. The trio silently runs over to the AC access point, which protrudes from the roof, kind of resembling a periscope.
Nya reaches it first, pulls out the magnetic screwdriver, and begins to systematically remove the Philip's heads. The other two keep watch until the last screw is stored in her gi pocket. Nya goes in first, then Zane, and Lloyd takes up the back. The vents here accommodate all of them well since the AC system has to compensate for some ridiculously powerful, and therefore hot, computers.
There's an odd lack of dead bugs in these vents, which is more disturbing than it should be. In fact, when she drops out of the vent, there's only a very light layer of dust to brush off. Lloyd seems to notice it, too, and shoots her a look that says, "We'll talk about this when we get back because I, too, think it's weird." They use it a lot more than you'd think.
Zane didn't seem to notice; he's busy opening the next vent. This one is glued, so he cools the metal until it falls into his hands.
The next vent crawl is shorter and leads into the elevator shaft. Nya wedges the grappling hook into a crevice and slides down the rope a story to the fourth floor entrance door. There, she finds the electronics access panel and gets her way into the system using a handheld computer she stored in her pocket. The door opens, stopping at about two feet wide, and Lloyd slips through, with Nya right behind him after she reattaches the panel cover. Zane follows less than a minute later; he's abnormally heavy, so, instead of using the rope, he slid down using the elevator cable after taking their grapple and reattaching the vent cover. She overrides the safety sensors, the closing indicator light, and disables mainframe records, letting the gap in the doors close completely.
The hallway is painted a light gray and the waxed floor reflects the moon that shines through the tall exterior windows. Nya takes a moment to catch up to Lloyd and Zane, keeping close to the floor to avoid being seen from the outside. When she gets there, both of them nod: the guards are on schedule. It's expected, of course, since their programming doesn't allow for anything different.
She crouches down, examining the lock. Part of it they already knew: it's connected to the mainframe and can be opened electronically. However, it also has a mechanical component that they couldn't find any way to get around. Lacking any blueprints or patents, she just has to wing it. Jay isn't great at improvisation under pressure and Zane literally contains magnets, so she's the one crouched in front of the slender, rectangular black screen situated right where a door handle might be on the pristine white door.
Earlier, at the monastery, she'd wagered that whoever needed to access it would probably want something discrete to use, not a traditional key or anything clunky. Similar to Borg Tower Clearance Cards, she'd said. From what she can see now, it looks magnetic. Nya's smiling under her gi as she removes a metal card from her toolkit. Using a sheet of magnetic viewing film, she arranges magnets at specific strengths at precise locations. For a second pair of eyes, she taps the door once, pauses, then again. Zane turns around. She points at a tile and motions for him to walk over, then lifts up her card, points at the lock, and crooks her head to the right.
His eyes glow light blue for just a second, and he squints. Nya groans internally, putting the card in her back pocket and walks over.
Zane leans down so his head is right adjacent to her ear, "Third from top on the far right. Swap it for the next strongest. The rest are perfect." He straightens and gives her an encouraging thumbs up before heading back to his watching post.
Nya does as he says and returns her toolkit to the folds of her gi, careful to secure it noiselessly. She takes a deep breath, checks the time, and waits. Behind her, she can't even hear fabric rustling; it's only the shadows that clue her in to where the other two are.
At the thirty second mark, she quickly overrides the electrical component, and at thirty-two seconds she's holding up her card to the lock. The blood's rushing in her ears and the red light at the top of the lock glares at her for several beats. The beep it makes is deafening, but the guards won't hear it and the blinking green light is worth it.
The door swings open, presenting to her a room with wire black shelves on both side walls and an assortment of silvery components glinting even in the low light. It's not a big room and the shelves are deep. The floor is a dull, unsealed concrete devoid of shoe scuffs and full of scrapes. Metal shoes aren't exactly popular, so it's probably nindroid feet. Zane taps her on the shoulder and they begin the search. Back at the monastery, they'd agreed that every time they find a piece, one of them taps twice on the metal bars and lifts the bounty above their head.
Although they're there for a mission, she can't help but to enjoy looking at each piece. It's a treasure trove to her calibrated eye; 0.5 nanometer processors, integrated ARM-based chips, and external 1 terabyte storage that's the size of 15 megabyte USB flash drives. Pulling her attention back to the mission, she refocuses on the parts she needs. They spend about forty more seconds in complete silence. Then two metallic taps ring in the air and, with that, they've found all the parts. As she's closing the door, Nya looks at the floor. Zane didn't leave any of those marks. In fact, stealth training left his footfalls almost undetectable.
The door shuts with a click and Lloyd walks over. They redistribute components within their gis, securing them to their bodies and occasionally moving around a little to test the noisiness.
In less than a minute, they're heading towards the next room. Twenty feet away from the door, Zane puts his hands to another vent. Metallic steps echo from around the corner; Lloyd bounces his right foot and Nya's chewing on her lip. The vent falls into Zane's hands and they crawl in. Nya is the last to get in, so she gets a front row seat to see the shadow of the guard pass by. She holds her breath until he rounds the corner.
It's about thirty seconds before Zane taps the OK signal. Nya climbs out and promptly runs over to the target door. She aligns another set of magnets, and her second attempt is deemed perfect by their resident android in a much faster time. The handheld computer informs her that she's within the window to make noise. Wasting no time, she deactivates the lock's electrical component and holds up the card. The beep isn't as bad this time, and the light is a bit more expected. She heads in on her own, clothed fingers running along the edge of the wire shelves until she finds a thin metal box inscribed with a Borg logo.
The door closes behind her and she hands it to Lloyd. He's the only one who can't open vents, so he'd volunteered to hold onto it until they reach the roof.
Running low again, on their way over the the elevator door, she notices a pattern of scrapes on the floor. She mustn't've caught it before because it was obscured by shadows. Less than two feet away from the tile, though, it's obvious. They only seem to walk on the left side of the hallway, which makes sense since the guards never pass by one another. If the warehouse was staffed by humans, though, she would expect to see scuffs all across the width of the halls, dust in the vents, and bugs in the walls. Save for the three of them, nothing in this building can think for itself.
It takes a bit longer to reach the elevator doors. As they approach, Nya's hands fly cross the computer screen. The adrenaline rush has almost worn off by the time they've closed the doors, are in the shaft, and hear a polite female AI inform them of the elevator's destination, "Fifth floor." Lloyd and Nya are standing on the slight ledge behind the doors and Zane jumps off the cable to the side of the shaft as the elevator rises from the ground floor. His feet make a clanging noise as they hit the side and the metal groans beneath his hands. He's the one with the grappling hook, but there isn't enough time to escape into a vent. Nya's stomach twists into a knot as she realizes they have no way to escape since there is no sixth floor and their climbing would be too slow to allow for any time to remove a vent cover. Zane's eyes are glowing a little, illuminating the cable in front of them that's rising much too quickly.
Lloyd straightens all of a sudden, eyes tinting green, "Zane," his voice is just slightly quieter than the winch, but loud enough for Zane to redirect his focus, looking him in the eye, "Stand on the elevator, so it reaches max capacity-" Lloyd cuts himself off and looks down. It's is just ten feet below them now.
Zane doesn't appear to consider an alternative. He tightens his grip and brings his feet closer to his hips. He pushes off the wall, simultaneously throwing the grapple to Nya, which she catches. He lands on the roof of the elevator car with some noise, but the capacity alerts, which are nearly deafening, cover for him.
She wastes no time, throwing the grapple near the escape vent. With this much commotion, their cover is surely blown. They scramble up the rope as quick as humanly possible; Lloyd's unwrapped his hood to use as a sack for holding the box, so he takes a bit longer. Only after she removes the vent cover does she hear the capacity alarms stop. Looking down, she sees Zane climbing up the cable and realizes that there are voices inside the elevator car. Both are robotic, though, thank goodness, and seem to be just as alarmed when the elevator starts moving again.
She crawls into the vent first. Lloyd passes her his hood-sack and gets in after her. They start towards the roof, keeping an ear out for Zane, who gets in a few seconds later, not bothering to replace the vent. As they crawl and push their way up, lights turn on in the area below. Nya runs through her mental checklist again: motion sensors, microphones, and heat cameras. They're all patched - on a continuous loop of false information - so that they can't detect their movement, and she lets herself relax a little.
Zane fully catches up to them as she's working to remove the final vent cover. Lloyd scoots right next to him, asking him if he's okay in a low, careful tone. He responds in the affirmative just as the cover falls into Nya's hands.
They step onto the roof, crouching low, and Zane motions for her to just leave the vent cover as they move towards the roof's edge.
Looking out at the southeast end of the property, it's awash in bright yellow lights that illuminate the sides of the building. The forest's entrance seems to swallow the search lights. Only the first line of trees are properly visible. They're all hardwoods, but the northwestern wind holds the scent of pine. She can't hear the leaves rustling, though, because synchronized metallic footsteps and orders in robotic voices echo far into the night.
Zane taps his teammates on the shoulder and speaks just loud enough that the wind doesn't swallow his words, "We need to alter the plan." He points towards another side of the roof, "Lloyd, you should summon your dragon on the North end and distract them as Nya and I escape into the forest."
Lloyd nods, and goes to hand Nya the box, but Zane pushes it back into his hands.
"No, you should put your hood back on and hold the box so it's completely visible," he shifts his feet, "Your distraction isn't just the dragon."
Curly blond hair disappears once more and Lloyd holds the box to his hip. He runs across the roof and becomes a green smudge standing on roof's North end. He shouts something, and all the nindroids go quiet for a moment before the commanders are yelling, telling the others to fire.
Zane taps Nya on the elbow, getting her attention, "I'll say when."
She sees the golden glow out of her periphery, and hears angry shouts from below mixed with a delighted cackle. She blocks out the noise after that, focusing on finding a branch to land on.
"Go."
At Zane's cue they leap from the rooftop, soaring into the air with their eyes locked on their landing places. Zane happens to land on the same tree as her; he's holding on to the trunk and she's perched on a branch. Not for long, though - they only take a moment to rest - because they're off again, jumping through the trees so quickly the wind whistles in her ears. She's not sure if they noticed them and, at this point, if they did they wouldn't be able to catch up.
The rendezvous point is a large oak about one and a half kilometers from the warehouse. It's stout, but thick, and stands out from the others in the middle of the forest. However, you wouldn't be able to pick it out if you didn't know what you were looking for.
They slide down the trunk and more or less collapse at the foot of the tree, resting on large, gnarled roots.
It's about five minutes before Zane walks over to her, "Lloyd should only be a few minutes. He's probably going to lead them on a chase, then ascend above the clouds and double back," he sits down on the root next to her, hunching over.
"Great, how long will that be?"
"Approximately ten minutes total, so three minutes from now."
Nya lets the silence surround them. The air down here creeps into her gi, cooling the sweat that coats her whole body. There's no real wind near the forest floor, but the atmosphere down here is a lot nicer than the one they flew through earlier. She lets her mind wander to her bed and her boyfriend. She'll have quite a story to tell when they get back. Two minutes into ruminating, a question pops into her head. "Hey, Zane?"
He looks up, and she realizes he's taken his hood off. The small bit of moonlight they get beneath the trees lets her see the contrast between his white hair, dark complexion, and glowing blue eyes that slowly return to brown after she calls his attention.
"Yes? If it's Lloyd, he's likely to arrive in under a minute."
She smiles. Although she's famously impatient, he's wrong on this occasion.
"It's not," she shifts so it's easier to look at him, "Did they, the nindroids, see us?"
His head drops and he laughs, his right hand going to hold the left side of his chest. It takes a few moments before he raises his head again and looks at her directly, "They were much too occupied by our resident green ninja to notice us."
"Good, because they gave me one hell of a chase." Lloyd slides down the tree trunk, a golden quickly dissipating in the sky above him/ He's cradling the box to his side, and lands on a root behind Zane, "Ready to go?" he looks between the two of them.
"Yup," Nya stands, brushing her gi off. Zane rewraps his hood.
Lloyd calls on his golden energy and summons his dragon, which scares some squirrels, chipmunks, a racoon, and makes a few birds let out noises she's sure indicate annoyance. Though animals of the avian sort always act like their neighbor left their porch light on and they're trying to go to sleep. It's like they're permanently unimpressed.
Zane hops on first, then Nya, and they ascend through the forest canopy into the night sky. Another end to an eventful night. She tightens her arms around Zane's middle and her shoulders begin to shake to accompany her giggling when she finishes processing what exactly happened.
He makes an inquiring noise and taps one of her hands to get her attention.
She rests her head on his back and lets the wind caress her hair as she waits a moment in the humid silence before she answers. "Never lose weight."

Miranda Cosgrove received the best birthday gift on Friday — the news that the iCarly revival series will premiere June 17 on Paramount+.
The actress' iCarly castmates Jerry Trainor, Nathan Kress, Laci Mosley, and Jaidyn Triplett were on set to celebrate Cosgrove turning 28 with a cake, which then revealed the announcement.
Along with this news, Cosgrove chatted with EW about what viewers can expect from the upcoming series, and gave us details about some exclusive set reveal photos. And make sure to check out the video of Cosgrove and Trainor giving a tour of the set, which should look very familiar to fans of the original series.
The 13-episode season will pick up nearly 10 years after the Nickelodeon series, which ran from 2007 to 2012. The core cast are all reprising their roles, with Cosgrove once again embodying Carly, while Trainor and Kress are returning as Carly's brother Spencer and her friend Freddie Benson, respectively.
And because it's been a while since we've seen the cast, "Carly has gone through a lot over the last 10 years — all the characters have," Cosgrove tells EW.

With the Freddie character, he's gone through a couple divorces," the actress reveals. "Spencer has become very wealthy, so there's a lot of different dynamics and different things going on."
As for Carly, she went to college and is pretty successful, Cosgrove continues, but she's "kinda in between" where Freddie and Spencer are at.
Spencer, who's "the most successful of all" the characters, still resides in the original loft he and Carly lived in, though he's remodeled it a bit. Cosgrove says she and Trainor worked with the set designer to keep some of the flair from the old series in the new set.
For instance, you can see below the bottle bot, a sculpture Spencer made that was a fixture on iCarly. Though they couldn't track down the original, the team asked the artist who made it to build one as identical as possible to be in Spencer's living room. Similarly, the designers had the same couch from the original reupholstered and updated.
"They tried to do a lot of cute, little things for the fans from the original that stayed the same," Cosgrove says.

You can also see that the loft's upstairs, which Carly used as a studio to film "iCarly," has been updated but looks pretty similar to the original.

The new show will catch up with Carly, who's now in her 20s and hasn't kept up with her "iCarly" web show that she hosted with her friends Freddie and Sam (Jennette McCurdy) as teens.
"She hasn't done 'iCarly' in a long time, and she decides to start it up again in the pilot," Cosgrove says. "So we're exploring what her new show is. And even though it's 'iCarly,' it's not the same as it was before. So we've been exploring a lot of different things with that, just like what a 26-year-old would really be doing if they had a YouTube channel nowadays."
Cosgrove, who's also an executive producer on the show, says she's excited to see how Carly will navigate YouTube and Instagram given how much the internet has grown since iCarly went off the air.
Not revealed yet is Carly's apartment, which is also at Bushwell Plaza, the same building in Seattle that Spencer's apartment is in. In the upcoming project, she lives with her roommate and best friend Harper (Mosley). And it wouldn't be iCarly without Freddie nearby, though this time around it may not be great news for the character.
"He's gone through a divorce and he's moved back in with his mother," Cosgrove says. "So Mary [Scheer], who played his mom on the show is back and we all are living in the same apartment building together."
Another new addition to the show is Triplett, who plays Millicent, Freddie's snarky and social media-savvy stepdaughter whom he adopted.
"It's funny because it's a lot of the old because we do have like the little studio we used to film in and we have Spencer's apartment, but then we have a lot of new sets and new characters, so it's like half and half," Cosgrove notes.
The revival will explain everyone's backstory in the pilot, and she says it was exciting to think about what all the characters would have been doing over the last decade. Cosgrove doesn't answer whether the show will address Sam's absence on the show, but she does promise the return of some fan-favorite recurring characters. Nevel Papperman (Reed Alexander), Carly's pretentious nemesis is slated to return, and they recently did an episode featuring Nora Dershlit (Danielle Morrow), the stalker "iCarly" fan who appeared in the original.
Currently halfway through filming, Cosgrove says she doesn't know how the last four or five episodes will play out yet. She has her own curiosities she wants the show to address, like what happened with Spencer and Carly's mom. And she says Trainor is dying for Spencer's unseen friend Socko to finally appear.
What Cosgrove is clear on, however, is what kind of show she wants iCarly to be, especially since it took the team "a really long time to figure out."
"We really tried to make this show, along with the showrunner Ali [Schouten], as much for the fans of the original as possible, because it's not really a kid show anymore," Cosgrove says. "It's mainly made for the people who watched when they were little, they're now more in their 20s."
"We're getting to explore different things with [what] the characters go through that we would never have been able to do before, that's a lot more like stuff that's happened in our real lives and things that people in their 20s and 30s go through," she adds. "It's just been a fun reunion getting to see everybody, and I'm really excited for people to see it."
Last thoughts 😑:
I have mixed feelings about this so I skip it no thanks. I hope it last for one season. Good luck to others who are going to watch this.

My Idea for a Scooby-Doo! Reboot
So a while back, after noticing that Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated was on Spectrum On Demand, I decided, "Hey, I'm gonna rewatch this show." I don't know why I did it, because I rarely ever rewatch shows. I'll watch reruns, but never have I actually decided to rewatch a television series. But, I did it for Scooby-Doo.
And frankly, I had forgotten how good the show was. It's honestly really dark, while also being absolutely hilarious; and in its humor, the show actually does really unique things with the Scooby-Doo gang, with the biggest example being this show's version of Fred Jones. It's wild. But in my opinion, the thing that really makes this show what it is...
...is its story. I feel like the story and characters are fuel for this show in a way that feels different from other shows, somehow. I don't really get it, but that's the way I see it.
So, seeing as there's all these serialized cartoon series nowadays, and Scooby-Doo is always getting rebooted in one way or another, I figured... what if I rebooted Scooby? If I had the opportunity to reboot Scooby-Doo and the only Warner Bros requirement was "just make it," what would I do with it?
Without further ado, this is To the Future, Scooby-Doo!
First up: The Premise
To kick things off, I'll discuss how the show is set up. This version of Scooby-Doo is set in the future. Technology has become more holographic and stuff like in the movies, but fashion hasn't evolved to be nothing but latex bodysuits yet. Flying cars are real but not very widely used, and clothes can tell the time.
On the biological side of things, prosthetics are holographic as well, and incredibly easy to attach. It's almost like having your original limb. Food is healthier while also being more environmentally friendly, and animals have been genetically modified for a very long time. They have been allowed to mate, which has eventually lead to many domesticated animals being able to speak!
The main setting is a large port town known as Port Intrigue, where all sorts of goods are traded, and many people lead peaceful lives. It's a nice place, and a lot of the economy is structured around it. There are other important trade cities like it, but Port Intrigue may be the most powerful.
It's also probably the weirdest, because in true Scooby-Doo fashion, no one can just "be a criminal." Heck no! Where's the fun in that?? If you're gonna try and get money through illegal fear tactics, you've gotta do it in style!!
And for some reason or another, the police get a little help with solving a lot of the more, uh... colorful mysteries. Help from a group of kids attending Intrigue High...
Next up: The Scooby Gang!
So here's the big part! All of my redesigns of the classic gang! Let's kick it off with:
FRED JONES
So this version of Fred is definitely toned back from various recent versions of Scooby-Doo, particularly the DVD movies and Mystery Incorporated. He's a lot more laid back, and has a sort of "cool guy" persona.
One day a long time ago, his parents, 2 great scientists, didn't pick him up from school, and apparently they mysteriously disappeared. So since then he's been living with Shaggy. At Intrigue High, he is in the theater program as a Tech, so he's good with pulleys and ropes and other various behind-the-scenes theater things, which makes him really good at making weird Rube Goldbergs - and traps, whenever the need arises. But when would Fred ever need to build a trap?
NORVILLE "SHAGGY" ROGERS
...Y'all can excuse the scribbles in the lower corner, right?
Anyway, this version of Shaggy is just as uptight as he always is, but instead of that only being attributed to mystery solving and creepy ghoulies, it's evolved into some much, much greater!!!
He's the mom friend now.
Y'know, telling everyone to watch their eating habits and be careful of opening soda cans because so help me if you scratch yourself...!
Long time ago he lost his arm so now he has one of those cool prosthetics. The trauma of losing it though has made him extra cautious, and a bit of a scaredy cat. Of course, he's willing to do whatever it takes for his friends, just like the Shaggy we all know!
He still likes to eat and is a bit of an amateur chef, participating in the culinary club at Intrigue High.
VELMA DINKLEY
This is my rendition of Velma Dinkley. She's still the smartest one of the group, and good at technology, but is also a boxer! She's not just strong, but also strong willed!
The Dinkley's have a long, long history of scientific endeavors, and Velma's father is a great scientist as well! Though really, it's more of a hobby for him.
Velma lives with her younger sister Madelyn (who some of you might remember from Abracadabra-Doo) and her father, Victor.
This Velma is snarky, yet quirky. She's got a real go-getter mentality, which everyone can't help but to respect.
DAPHNE BLAKE
Daphne Blake is a bit of a softie. She was never very forward with making friends, but developed a clique of her own with Fred, Shaggy, Scooby and Velma.
Her house used to be the gang's main hang out spot, but after the kids moved on to high school, they haven't been over to her house at all.
Daphne likes to draw, and really wants to be a fashion designer. In fact, she's a part of Intrigue High's costume design team for the theater program!
SCOOBY-DOO
Scooby-Doo has been part of the Rogers family ever since he was a puppy, and Shaggy was a little kid. The two have been basically inseparable their whole lives, with Scooby even attending school with everyone else.
He likes belly rubs, scratches behind the ear, and food. So in other words, he's the same Scooby we all know and love! Still fearful, but dedicated to his friends, including...
MEASLES
Shaggy and Scooby may have been buds since they were little kids, but before Shaggy, Scooby had Measles.
Since they're both GMO animals, they both have the ability to speak human language, which they would use to try and get food. Eventually, Measles was able to get Scooby into a good home with the Rogers family. Unfortunately, Mr and Mrs Rogers couldn't afford to take care of Shaggy, Fred, a dog, and a cat, but Measles promised to visit Scooby whenever she could, or that they'd at least see each other around. And she's kept that promise! Even to this day, the gang will sometimes find her in random locations, like... the Theater Program's costume box?
Measles has a lackadaisical, yet somewhat snarky personality, but definitely cares for her friends. It just may take a while to show it.
Last up: Everything Else
Uh, hm. I guess this is the generalization of the show.
Well, it's a giant celebration of Scooby-Doo. The gang wears different outfits, rarely wearing the same one in consecutive episodes. And each outfit would be pulled from a previous Scooby series (yes, including *shivers*... Get a Clue).
Also, other characters from previous series and Scooby media are not only in the show, but play decently sized rolls. For example, I already mentioned Madelyn Dinkley, but there's also Red Herring from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, or Mayor Nettles and Sherriff Bronson Stone from Mystery Incorporated (they're married from the start this time!). Even the dreaded Scrappy Doo makes his return at (what I imagine to be) the start of Season 2, hopefully to redeem himself and not be relegated to a tired joke about "lol Scrappee sux XD"
Flim-Flam is back too, but is rebranded as Frida McScam, the fast talking troublemaking free spirited girl who takes everybody's crap and spins it in her favor (and also might be psychic).
Scooby's family tree is mentioned, and his parents even have a major role in Season 1.
Just a whole lot of Scooby-Doo trivia and stuff. Stuff that I imagine the people working on the show would be way, way better at remembering and putting to use than I am!
As for the overarching plot?
Well, what futuristic setting would be complete without aliens? I imagine the aliens would be a race of owl creatures known as the Willawaw (another Scooby reference because I hope this show is FULL OF THEM). Basically, these aliens are the bad guys, both in the show proper, and in a lot of the show's backstory. They're like myth villains, or greater scope villains, or something.
I was even thinking like, when the gang ends up running, rather than using a recyclable run cycle from a side view, everyone could have brand new running animations, like to distinguish them all as unique. Although I guess that's what the running cycles were... but the chase scenes are a lot like Mystery Inc, where they were a lot more action packed. It could be great! And of course, everyone would use the classic running style at some point throughout the show, because that seems to be tradition for Scooby-Doo.
This was a really big post! But if you read all of it, thanks a million! I hope you liked the small amount of art within, or just the idea in general! Maybe I'll even draw my reimagined takes on the other characters some day. But for now, I'll leave at this.

Hey, I gotta question: what's the difference between Klantis and the Evangelical Right?
Answer: one group are more than willing to sell out their so called values if they have a chance at pushing their values on people who disagree with them because they never gave a shit about those morality to begin with...and the other is the Evangelical Right!
But seriously? This has been without a doubt the weirdest season for ship discourse. And to say Voltron literally invented antis and made age discourse a thing, that's a hell of a feat to accomplish. It's adorable that Klantis now want to pitch in and be kind to "literal pedophiles" "abuse apologists" and "nasty ass adults" in a last ditch effort to prop their failed headcanon.
To make a short summary of the other shit I've seen over the last week, in case anyone else is lost:
Klantis and some Sheithers tying themselves in knots over Axca's apperance
Some Kallura fans shitting over Sheith fans for the sin of wanting their ship to be endgame
Since no one gives a rat's ass about any age discourse involving Shaladin ships anymore, a few have taken to having a go at Plance which is hilarious when theirs is the smallest age age of any Piladin ship
Far too many asinine comments about Allurance coming out of nowhere because Lance and Allura weren't joined at the fucking season this season
Those assuming the Zezor thing is another example of "lol gay villians" with zero understanding of the history that this is a far cry from the Disney Model (it, Le Fou, Ursela, Scar to name a few) rather than two women villians who happen to be gay for each other
Every Sub-Zero cold as fuck take on Shiro being bad rep because he's not paired off, as though this badass motherfucker hasn't survived death, didn't have Black save his soul because she wanted no other Paladin and he isn't thriving now that he's back at the Garrison doing what he been wanting to do since literally the first second of this show and his only value is being with literally anyone to open the path to a ship that already got sank by Allurance or maybe even Plance, who the fuck knows....a girl can dream
Everyone talking over Asian fans who have explained why they still see this as a win and are thrilled with Shiro existing
The dismissal of Allurance as good rep on the fact that it's het and ignoring that it's two characters of color who both defy stereotypes, and yes I see you non-Klantis doing this too and I'mma 'bout to start snatching weaves
This shit right here, proving any one is capable of taking stupid pills
And the funny thing is? I've had that whole list above sitting in drafts for the last two days before:
this new shit with the racist reboot
Leakira
the Kible being canceled
the author behind Dirty Laundry deleting the story off AO3 for her own sanity
Oh, and I guess Pidge bashing on Twitter is a thing now too, I mean the staff never said boo about Plance having a chance but go off I guess
Some people being salty over Jeith being a thing because James is an "abuser" or whatever
And yet I'm sure when I wake up tomorrow, there's gonna be something else new that we're hating. What'll it be? Will I hear about beef between Team Punk and Heith fans? Will a fanfic about Sam Holt's illicit affair with Veronica take off on AO3?* Will Hachiko become the furry rep no one asked for in the reboot?
Tune in tomorrow for another installment of As the Fandom Turns!
*cue corny organ theme*
*I'm so sorry for making anyone imagine this because Sam Holt is The Best and not only would he never do this, Colleen would cut a bitch for stepping to her man
Funny how Klant/s are saying "They queerbaited us with K/ance and Sh@dam and now they are trying to queerbait those disgusting sheith shippers!" Lol, sorry but unlike you guys who queerbaited yourselves, we Sheithers tend to have our hopes and expectations very low
LMAO, like they could actually literally queerbait Sheith, and shippers would be like “nah, i’ts not queerbaiting, we’re just getting our hopes up and have our shipper goggles on too tight.”
Idk why but I feel almost flattered that antis think the staff is trying to queerbait us Sheith shippers, awww their fake concern is so cute lol
#fandom wank#this aint even discourse no more#its just fucking comedy#i can't even be mad at this cuz im too busy laughing#congrats fandom#vld season 7#insane#long post is long#fandom history#tagging it now cuz this is one for the archives#forvreal i haven't lol'd this hard at fandom outrage since enterprise's series finale#101/10 👍
